Going to the field museum today! Helping chaperone my mom’s field trip.
I recently got the idea for a new story to write; A Shapeshifter’s Notion of Beauty. It’s not the kind of thing I normally write, but it’s sort of an inside look at the psychology that comes from being able to look like whatever you want (my perspective of what it would be, anyway). Specifically, a shapeshifter surrounded by other shapeshifters as well as normal humans. It would be from a first-person perspective, and comment on things like not trusting appearances, and yet being extremely concerned with them.
Does this sound like a potentially decent story or a total train wreck?
It sounds like it has the potential to be very interesting if written well, in my opinion.

Mission accomplished! I gave Terpsichore a slice of warm banana bread with chocolate chips and walnuts in it, a comforting note, and a picture of Jeremy Renner looking attractive (as Jeremy Renner tends to).
I’m also discussing options other than Journalism for class next year, since my Journalism grade has been so precarious and it’s such a stressful class for me. My mother’s of the opinion I should just “work through adversity” and take Journalism next year; I’m of the opinion I shouldn’t have monthly panic attacks whenever a deadline rolls around.
Discussing with a counselor was helpful! My options are likely to either take Law and Society for a semester next year, or a beginning Programming class. I’d like to TA for a writing class, but Mom says that’s not an option. Personally, I’d like to take Programming. It seems like one of the most useful classes I could ever take, as well as really fun. I mean, I love learning languages, and I love working with computers, and our beginning Programming class is essentially a mixture of both. (I just wish I had time to take AP Computer Science. High school, where did you go?)
I have this ever-increasing list of Classes I’d Love To Take in College. It includes: basically every anthropology class offered anywhere ever, Arabic, a more advanced Programming class, and something or other on feminist theory. God, I can’t wait to get to college.
Also, I babysat last night as the start of a regular sort of gig, and the parents are paying me $12 an hour. Can you believe that? My usual price is around $7.50! *rubs forehead* It’s not like I’m complaining, but wow. Wow. Yes. Good.

I’m at a pirate festival for the weekend, which is fun times.
We got here, set up the tent and suchlikes, got food, and now headed off to work on set lists and practice some.
I love playing music with these people. Actually, I just love these people. :3
And day before yesterday I managed to hurt my knee in some mysterious way that I don’t understand. So I’m limping a bit. *sigh* Oh well.
I saw the festival on a list of events and my first thought was to wonder if you would be there.

Pride of Baltimore II is here, and…..I have no words. She is so gorgeous. Square topsali schooner, raked back masts…such clean lines. Mmm. I’m fairly certain that if it’s possible to have a crush on a boat I have one on her. Yup. She’s one of my boat-crushes.
I was gazing longingly while the crew harbor furled, and my friend asked if I was checking out the crew or the boat.
Boat. I’ve my my priorities straight.
Before leaving yesterday I was talking to Mom about how one of my nebulous plans (which is actually less nebulous than other possibilities) is after I graduate spending a few years sailing around the world, like on Picton Castle or Europa. I kind of really want to do that. I’m torn as to whether I really want to make it a life-long career or not, because there are just SO MANY things to do. *sigh*
I’ve got time to figure it out.
Last day of school! I’m officially a sophomore. Life is good.
I love how I managed to get some horrible flu right as school ended. So instead of going to my friend’s pool party, I shall be celebrating the end of the year with instant noodles and old House episodes.
Not bad, eh? And tomorrow I’m off to visit my aunt in Sacramento, following which I get to go see Allosaur for a week. Life is good.

I am jealous of a) Jade’s pancakes (I am soooooooo hungry!) and b) Fiddler’s pirate festival.
Also, my ankles hurt a lot and I have decided it is from roller skating, which means of course that I should roller skate MORE, to build up a tolerance! Except I don’t want to, ’cause my ankles hurt.
Also, I can’t go to the SCA event this weekend and it makes me woeful, woeful indeed. Or it would if I were capable of feeling anything but desire for delicious food right now.
the SCA is another thing I have a lot of feelings about
back home, there’s next to no SCA presence, but a couple blocks from my college they have weekly fight practices that I am going to start regularly attending next year when I don’t have class at the same time
I am also trying to get a friend to drive with me for the 8+ hours necessary to go to Pennsic this year
so basically what I’m saying is that the SCA is awesome and you should definitely try to go to events (but of course don’t feel bad if life gets in the way, as it so often does)
I enjoy the SCA, not that I’ve actually done anything with them yet at all. But I’m going to! I want to go to an event in late September but I just realized that I will probably be performing Much Ado About Nothing and consequently will be unable to go.

Whose idea was it to put my last day of high school and my last band banquet on the same day?
A summary of the banquet:
Got the freshmen to sign my yearbook. They’re the sweetest class ever.
Won outstanding senior marcher (first time I’ve ever won anything at a band banquet!) AND the national marching band award which has a plaque in the band room with all our school’s past winners’ names on it in the band room. It felt really nice to be honored, because I feel like I’ve given so much of myself to band.
The slideshow of senior baby photos was beautifully done.
Willed down my hedgehog binder to Julie, who seemed to understand how big a deal that is. She promised to take good care of it for me. She’ll be a great section leader next year.
Willed Casey the oboe box. It had a lot of stuff in it, like a necklace I made from an acorn we hollowed out at a competition, and an air horn, and an oboe reed tube good luck charm for next year.There was also a note (more of a letter, I guess) explaining all of the things in the box, with a short sentimental bit at the bottom. She didn’t want to pull everything out of the box at the table, but she did read the note. Then she cried. I’m going to miss her so much.
And when I went to thank Dr. C for everything he’s done the past two years, he told me that he’d never forget me, and that it’s not often you meet someone like me.
It was a beautiful note to end on.

I had to read the email 5 times before I was convinced it really said what I thought it did, and even now I’m still kind of in disbelief. Because it’s insane. I never win anything. And now I did. And it’s gonna be totally awesome, and just wow. I….wow.

Meet and greet with the cast, group photo, one and one photo op with any of them during the meet and greet, and autographs
It was awesome. Unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to get a one on one photo with Dylan Saunders (dumbledore!), Brian Holden (although he was next to me in the group photo so I got to touch him at least), or Lauren Lopez. But that’s okay. The show was great, the cast is awesome, joe walker in the show with short shorts and a top unbuttonned almost to his bellybutton was positively delicious, if just a bit cruel that so little flesh was visible where the shirt was unbuttoned.
It was great. In addition to signatures on my program, after the show I managed to get my shirt signed by Jim povolo, Jamie Lynn Beatty, and Brian rosenthal. And on my program, Dylan graffittied all over Jim povolos pic and vice versa. And Meredith and Joey apparently have this tradition where they sign each others, and Joey scribbled “whooo” across the breasts of Meredith’s photo and signed his name below. Apparently that’s part of their tradition, cuz he did he same to Alan’s.
I had a blast. My videos/pics of the concert are total cake, but it was fantastic, and yeah
My original tickets had just been for autograph line in addition to the show, since I hadn’t been fortunate enough to snag the crystal skull before they sold out, despite having tried to order them the moment the link went live. So it was pretty great winning those tickets, after having resigned myself to my tickets, and especially since I didn’t allow myself to thi I even for a moment that I would actually win the upgrade

I have 9 poems currently submitted to various places — a personal record of number of submissions at once. I submitted three last night and wrote four more (first drafts anyways). Writing is going rather well as of late.

So, the town I’m in for the pirate festival had a tornado come through, RIGHT off the water (and, since it’s a pirate festival, we’re on the waterfront). Tents torn to pieces, boats damaged (apparently Pride II suffered some, Meka II seemed fine when I saw her. The fishing boat and building at the end of the pier got some pretty heavy damages, though.
We’ve spent all morning re-setting up the tent (complete with on-site repairs; it’s a good thing I had my sweing kit complete with sailor’s palm for sewing canvas) and accessing the damages. A fair amount of vendors simply left, but the event was delayed, so we start in about an hour, officially.
Never a lack of exciting times, eh?

I forgot to tell you all yesterday, but I’m done with middle school! I’m relieved. Eighth grade was alright, but I wouldn’t want it to go on forever. Summer will be nice–I’ll love all the free time–and then there’ll be high school, which sounds nice as well. I’ll learn more about it at preparatory summer camp in July. It’s really the 11th and 12th grades that’ll be awesome because I’ll get to take college electives, but the service opportunities in the 9th and 10th grade sound awesome as well.

Ugh, that’s horrible. It’s hard for different-minded people, especially when they are parents and kids, to get along.
The rest of my family is all in the next room watching Shoulder Arms while I pretend to be asleep over here in bed. Listening to them, as well as being a fascinating exercise in analyzing different types of laughter, is making me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
I should really start watching more silents again. I miss being completely obsessed with them.

The client won’t let you log in, or the server won’t let you connect?
If A, is minecraft.net down? Unless they’ve changed their configuration, logins are done through the minecraft.net servers. The site could be down.
The server software sometimes has issues allowing people to connect. If you’re running it off your machine, make sure your port is forwarded correctly and that the whitelist is working and everything.

Minecraft.net is down for all login servers. I’ve been searching the forums, and it’s all down. Not just the Technic pack (we’re in Tekkit), but the all of it.

Whenever I want to hide those sorts of things, I put them in my Library folder, which is hidden in Lion.

My dog caught a green anole. I didn’t think she’d ever done that before. The anole is alive and not bleeding, but my dog’s teeth have left marks beyond where her tail came off (I hope they’re not infected), and she’s really stressed. She’s mostly brown (They change color, and brown indicates stress for them), and she hardly even struggled when I picked her up to examine her. I picked up a healthy green anole once (I know now that that’s really selfish, and I’ll never do anything like it again), and she bit me. This one just let me pick her up, sometimes attempting to crawl to a place where she’d–what? Try to jump off? It’s hard to picture her jumping.
I’m assuming she’s female, but that might be wishful thinking. Normal, male green anoles expose a throat pouch when angry, and I assume being held would make any lizard angry. But it’s possible that a male lizard in the condition of this one wouldn’t be able to extend the throat pouch or would be too terrified to have room for anger.
I’m pretty sure she wouldn’t survive in the wild, and the local wildlife rehab place isn’t open–besides, I don’t know if it takes in lizards. I think so, but I’m not sure. I’m going to call them and ask for advice tomorrow morning. I asked my mom whether we could take her there if they say they do care for lizards; she isn’t sure.
In the meantime, I’m keeping her in an old tank in the shade lined with soil, bark, leaves, and moss (not as much as the Internet recommends, but as much as I could find). I can’t put a plant there any time soon, but I’ll spray it with water each day and give her food every other day until she’s healed, at the wildlife rehab place, or dead (whichever happens first). I’ve made ledges out of sticks for her to climb on, although she hasn’t. But the tank is scarcely more than half the recommended size for this species (fortunately, since green anoles are commonly kept as pets, there’s plenty of information online about how to care for them), and I don’t have the proper equipment to keep the tank at the proper temperatures and humidity. (I expect it’s humid enough, since it’s outside, but as for temperature, I don’t know. We’ve no thermometer, so we can’t pick the best place in the yard. You see, in the wild, green anoles can go to whatever temperature they need, and in captivity, we’re supposed to have a spot for them to bask. I can’t do that, because I don’t have the right equipment). I’m worried.
And do you know what happened as I was gathering the lining for her tank? I saw a dead green anole. We really need to keep a better eye on our dog when she’s outside.
She’s much less brown now, and she’s moving about more. A while ago, I even saw her catch an insect! (Some came in with the soil). That’s a good sign, at least. I hope she heals soon.
If she’s the right color and she’s eating, I’d say that’s a good sign.

that’s what my cat used to do… so my parents sold him *is sad now* *brightens* well my grandfather’s cat had kittens! so i can at least get another cat! i already named him fugitive!
She should be fine from what it sounds like!
If you’re only planning on keeping her a day or two to make sure she’s okay, I wouldn’t worry too much about the space of the tank and such. Generally smaller spaces are okay for short periods! If she’s eating that’s the best sign–she’s not focussed on being away from danger/etc, she’s focused on feeding herself. And it sounds like you’ve given her a lot of what she needs to recover–chiefly a safe space to do so! And if she doesn’t recover, it certainly won’t be through any fault of yours.
Also don’t beat yourself up about picking up a healthy one, honestly if I lived somewhere with lizards/anoles I would spend HOURS just catching them. Like I do with frogs here XD

Are green anoles a common lizard? I don’t think there are any near me. Hope that one gets better!
Well, unfortunately, she died overnight. She had gotten less brown than before, but it was still the predominant color on her body. I don’t know exactly how she was injured, except that it apparently didn’t prevent her from catching a meal; I didn’t want to pick her up again, and I don’t know much about injuries, anyway. Or maybe the bite was infected; I don’t know. Anyway, I also want to reply to some of you individually.
Jadestone: …You know, I have to admit that when there were many toads where I live*, I did pick them up quite often, even though I certainly could guess that they must not like it. I think it may have to do with the fact that they didn’t show their distress as much–male green anoles try to intimidate you when you get close, and if that doesn’t work, they flee, as do the females. And the one I picked up bit me. Toads didn’t do much, although I know that doesn’t actually mean they mind less.

Oxlin: They’re quite common in the southeastern United States and a few Caribbean islands, although I’ve read that their population in Florida is being threatened by invasive competitors. I don’t know where you live, but they aren’t everywhere.
*I hear them at night, but I never see them anymore–or their eggs or tadpoles. Unfortunately, I think many of them died in the huge drought we had last year.

I was at the National Zoo today, and in the gift shop, they had… Purple Pandas. Seriously, little stuffed pandas that were purple where real pandas are black. (I thought about buying one, but instead I bought a cute little cheetah and named him Duma, which means “cheetah” in Swahili.)

In other news, I just realized that my computer is literally too heavy for my mother to confiscate. She could probably lift it if she really really wanted to, but she wouldn’t. She has me carry air conditioners for her because she’s afraid she’ll drop them and hurt herself, and my computer weighs more than most of our air conditioners.
55 pounds. This computer weighs 55 pounds, not including the extra hard drive I installed.

Day 2 of “Piggy’s Parents Are Out of Town and So He Has the House to Himself” week. I slept outside in my new tent last night. I like it; it’s really light and easy to set up, and it’s comfortably spacious without being too big. I wish it would storm so I could see how the rain fly holds up, but the forecast looks dry.
I went to Mass early this morning and then visited my grandma again. She’s holding up fairly well, I think. She’s going back to work today, so that should help keep her mind off of things. Her neighbors have been cooking for her, which is really helpful.
Now I get to go grocery shopping! I’m going to buy everything that the rest of the family won’t eat. Tofu, bok choy, ginger beer–it’s going to be a delicious week. It’s also going to be a week full of yardwork and cleaning and reading. I’ve decided to give Walden a third go; I’ve tried reading it a few times but I always petered out after a bit. I’ve already beaten my record, so things look good.
After discussing it with my dad, I’ve decided to postpone my big vacation until I get a better car. I haven’t had any troubles with the engine, but mountain driving probably wouldn’t be good for the transmission. So I’m planning on spending two nights at a park in the middle of the state. It’s a national forest, actually, but 96 percent of the land doesn’t have any trees. Oh Nebraska. Anyway, it’s supposed to be very dark out there, and the moon’ll be a waning crescent, so the stargazing should be good.

I enjoyed my senior all nighter… I don’t know where yours is, but ours was at an indoor amusement park type thing, with swimming and laser tag and gambling and such. Plus, loads of free delicious food, and so many give aways that almost everyone won something.
In conclusion, laser tag is a good way to spend the last night you’ll ever see a lot of your friends.
I’m on summer break. 8th grade graduation was really sad.
I know. (My eighth grade graduation is coming up.) People tell you middle school is nothing compared to high school, that none of it means anything, but you still make friends. However young and immature we are, we still bond and we still cry when we say goodbye. However many of these people we’re going to see next year, it feels like the end, because in a way, it is. The next year will bring changes, but we know it will be different.
It may be just middle school, but it’s okay to be sad.

Tonight was the last concert our chorus will perform this year. It was bittersweet– we sounded good, but on the other hand, I will be sad to have half the people in the chorus (our best singers, also) leave, and I will be sad to see the chorus changing. I don’t even know if I will get chorus next year.
Also I don’t know if I mentioned this but guys. We sang a Les Miserables medley. It was flamablamablous. My inner fangirl is currently very squeeful.

I hope the pirate festival is going well! The one near me isn’t happening again this year, which makes me slightly sad, but also happy because it was, er, not historically accurate. In any case, it’s been replaced by a regatta! Special prizes for wooden and historical boats.
But I was reminded of you even more recently, during Fleet Week! New York Harbor is fantastic filled with ships. It got me wondering, have you given any more modern vessels a try? Something built from fiber and resin? Wooden boats are great, but not very fast. You should come visit some time!
A few of my sailor friends have gone on cruise for extended periods of time. It can be… rough.

My family has a small fiberglass tub of a sailboat, but I’m not particularly fond of it. I really prefer the traditional seamanship aspect of square riggers, more than the sleek racing boats. It’s a preference thing, I suppose. I do see the appeal of going super fast, I just don’t feel it.

Yeah, I get where you’re coming from. I don’t have any travel experience on tallships, so I can’t really comment on the seamanship aspect, but I think there’s a lot more of it in modern boats than most people suspect. It’s a shame, really, with the America’s Cup coming I’m afraid people will see carbon and wings and zoom, but miss the teamwork and athleticism and that moment when you make eye contact with the skipper across the line, spinning his boat bow to bow with yours.
I’m sure there’s just as much teamwork and cameraderie, but I was referring more to the skill set that comes with square riggers. All the knotwork, the endless seizings, the painting, sanding, scrubbing, varnishing…there’s something very special about looking at a ship and knowing that you painted that section, did most of the siezings on the headrig, tarred that section of shroud, and made the turk’s head on the tiller. Even though everything is in a constant state of maintenance and it’s all relatively temporary, it’s impossible not to feel deeply connected with the vessel itself.
I’m sure that exists in any kind of sailing, but I feel like it’s especially strong on the older style vessels. There’s also something about going aloft and working in the rig on a daily basis that makes square-riggers special. Being able to look out and see how big the water is, and how small your little wooden (or steel) world is is an incredibly humbling and empowering experience.
Also being out on the water for days on end is amazing. You stop feeling time’s movement and just feel the present, and the time with shipmates who you’re literally trapped with is amazing. It can be hard, especially when personalities clash, but most of the time it creates a really incredible bond unlike I’ve ever felt with anyone else.
Again though, I’m sure you find that in any kind of sailing.

In other news I’ve been watching Avatar with my friend Adam and we’re halfway through Book 2. It’s so good!
My mom came home from school today with fudge. Delicious, delicious, slabs of fudge, that had unfortunately been very badly attacked by siblings beforehand. But she gave everything that was left over to me. And it is so good. I really wish you could have some on the Eggernet.
Also I spent most of the morningmidday looking at the Appalachian Trail Conservancy website, and daydreaming about hiking it.
I doubt I could go on a thru-hike right now, but my college is located right by the southern end of the trail, and going on a spring break hike would definitely be possible. And it would be a good way of seeing if I wanted to do a bigger hike later on. Plans, plans.

For me, finals start tomorrow and go until next week. Functions & Trigonometry first…I calculated that to get an A- for the semester, I need at least a 92 on the exam. But to get a B+, I need at least a – get this – 77. Which is a C+. But I think I’ll be fine with a B+ in maths. I hope. So maybe I should step stressing out so much because maths doesn’t even really matter for any more. But I can’t, because I suspect it’s wired into my brain that I can’t slack off about anything; I really dislike doing badly. <- Not supposed to be a 'plaint or anything, just an observation.

it can’t be specifically more dangerous to look at the sun during an eclipse/etc. I can’t see how it’d be more so than when the sun is normal. I mean, nothing changes but theangles between it/other solar bodies/us. These warnings must just ONLY pop up around times when there’s interesting things going on around the sun.
I only bring this up because man everything is so filled with warnings they get to a “DON’T EVEN FACE TOWARDS THE SKY” level when normally no one cares if you glance up and happen to glimpse the sun. And it just seems like a weird hype to me, I mean yes I get that it’s bad and damaging but that level of danger is constant while our reaction to it fluctuates a LOT.
I mean just with your eyes, the warnings about telescopes/binoculars are different because that’s actually focussing the light, though that’s just as dangerous at anytime as well

I saw the transit after all! At the last minute a friend called and asked if iI wanted to go with her and her sister to a nearby college to see the transit. Their astronomy club had set up around 12 telescopes with various filters on them, and there was a pair of binoculars on a stand making a shadow of it and this other wooden/glass contraption making another shadow. It was very cool! We watched it as it just crossed onto the surface around 5:20 central time, and wandered between the telescopes till around 7:20. It got decently far Go venus go!
Aaaand I got a surprise call from Pan and KaiYves, who were also watching it! It was cloudy when they called but later they texted to say it’d cleared up

We saw it, but only for a second or two through holes in the clouds. But WE SAW IT! And we won’t again until- to paraphrase a newspaper article about the 1882 transit- the flowers are blooming in 2117.
I guess I’ll have to wait a while to see the next one. Total understatement.

WE SAW IT YEAH! KaiYves and I watched lots and lots of clouds, but then we saw it for a couple seconds! We saw it through our glasses, and we also got a glimpse through a telescope, too. SO COOL.
We also made a lot friends outside the museum while we were waiting for the clouds, with whom we shared our glasses (because the museum ran out). And we called Jade, who sent us some pictures to give us the strength to wait through to the end.

no it is not an optical illusion you are actually seeing groundhogs. it would be best to try to “Train Your Eyes” so that you can see better next time and not have to ask us for help. the way to do that is do do a lot of looking games like a “Find The Hidden Picture” game and some word games like scrab—SPLAT
Technically, they’re meerkats, but in fact, the “mid-level” silhouette did indeed remind me strongly of a groundhog when I was drawing it, so I’d say you’re entitled to interpret it as such.
So I have a question for all bloggers here in high school. Is it hard to fit things into your schedule? Do you often have trouble getting into courses because of scheduling or staffing? What kinds of courses are offered and are they available on different levels? Do you actually get to choose your courses, or are you asked to fill out a form with first, second, and third choices for electives and get your courses chosen for you based on your schedule?
I’m not sure if you are going to a private high school or public high school–heck, I’m not even sure if it’s that different between the two.
Just in case, I went to a public high school.
The form thing with first, second, and third is what I did. At my school, things were pretty well organized–there were classes at all levels throughout the day, so I could take AP Statistics freshman year without majorly messing anything up. In general, for me, you were well-taken-care of in all of the “core” subjects: math, science, history, and English. It was electives and second languages that caused trouble, simply because there were only one class offered per level (like, there would be only one German I class, as opposed to three freshman English classes). The top-level orchestra that I got into caused a lot of problems, mostly because it prevented me from taking health and PE freshman year. Also, my schedule would have been severely messed up if I had continued in Japanese or had taken French, so I switched to German (which ended up being pretty much the best decision I made in high school, so thanks, orchestra!).
In my experience, you were not allowed to take higher levels of science, English, or history, simply because there really wasn’t any opportunity to take really high-level science classes in middle school. Also, the more English and history essay-writing experience, the better. Math, language, and electives were really the only things I could have placed higher in, and I ended up taking advantage of that in two of those areas (all three if I had continued with Japanese).
So the form thing really did work. I ended up getting into all the classes I wanted. And when I didn’t get into a desired class at first, I just popped in and talked to the registrar person–she was really nice, and I think she was really positively biased towards people who had problems because they placed in higher-level classes.
Summing it up: English, history, and science classes were chosen for me–there were only two levels, regular and honors, and I took honors. Science branched out in junior year, but for English and history, it was always either honors or regular. Language, elective, and math had a lot of variation based on previous experience, and for the most part they fit nicely into my schedule.
TL;DR: If you don’t get what you want, don’t be afraid to ask for it.
That last sentence is really important. Even if the school can’t accommodate your request, you never know when you might plant the idea that they need to make some changes, such as offering more sections of a given subject or scheduling it at a different time of day, especially if you’re not the first to ask. But they’ll never know if students don’t speak up.
Oh, and STFP: I didn’t really elaborate on the different electives/languages offered:
My school had the most language options out of any school in the district: Spanish, French, German, ASL, Russian, and Japanese. Most schools offer at least Spanish and French.
Electives were very widely varied. There was music (band, orchestra, choir, theory), which I was in for all four years. Psychology was a popular elective, if only to get the IB diploma (me). There was also many tracks in business, theater, visual art, culinary art, and computer programming. And also a couple of physical science electives like animal behavior, anatomy, astronomy (added after I left ), and electronics.
I think that going to a public high school really widened the field in terms of electives. I don’t think private high schools offer as many because they’re a lot smaller. Sure, most of the electives were “regular” classes; the only four that had “honors” (IB) options were business, theater, psychology, and music theory, but I think if I had had the chance to take more of them I really would have been able to figure out more easily what I actually want to do with my life (although I wouldn’t have traded orchestra for the world).

Yeah, I knew there’s a bunch of different categories for stuff like this, but I didn’t want to try to think too hard about sorting them all, so I just picked two that sounded OK.
Thanks, that helps a lot. My school is really hard with scheduling and classes, because the ninth grade is on a separate campus than 10-12. I’m kind of frustrated at the moment, because there are very few options. I go to a public school, by the way.
I’m choosing classes now, and it’s difficult…there are not a lot of opportunities. Accelerated options for the “core” courses, but electives and such…
In my experience the higher the grade, the more opportunities for different classes. Once you finish the basic classes, prerequisites, etc, in Freshman and Sophomore years, especially in science courses and electives, more is offered to Juniors and Seniors.
Yep, that sucks. Until this year, junior year, we only got 2 electives at a time and a lot of compulsory classes. It does improve though.

I finally started watching Torchwood the other day. I must confess that I didn’t quite realize how much more intense it would be than Doctor Who. Countrycide was a twisted kind of awesome.

I’m pretty sure that all I can say without being carted off to a madhouse (or at least a psychiatrist) is that I have to admit that I thoroughly enjoyed that episode and it is officially my favorite of the ones I’ve seen.
I think what really got me about that episode was the “Because it made me happy” line. Admittedly, though, that was before I’d been thoughrougly desensitized to anything on television by years of Battlestar Galactica, Doctor Who, Fringe, The X-files, Bones, and Torchwood: Children of Earth. It takes a lot to really scar me now.
I think that was the whole purpose of the line. It certainly seemed to scar Gwen. Admittedly, for me, I honestly can’t remember a time when I would have found that scarring. but then again, I’m the kind of person who would (and has) read The Encyclopedia of Serial Killers for fun. So like I said, I’m really no comparison.

Hello Musebloggers. I always seem to come here when I need help. (good? bad? I should talk about other things…) But anyways here is my problem.
My school is really competitive and academic and annoying about everything being perfect and taking all these classes, and there are tons of APs offered. Just trying to keep up with expectations…
I don’t know if I want to continue taking French in my next year of high school. The French teacher at my school is really bad, basically the worst teacher I have had in my life (so far). But I already spent three years learning French (two at another school). I don’t know if I want to drop French and start taking Latin, which will be a whole lot more fun. I just feel like I have already learned a lot of French and stopping now would just waste everything. I don’t know if I want to start all over again with another language. I am already taking honors math and AP Euro, I don’t know if I want to deal with this teacher on top of all that. Latin One will probably be really easy, but then Latin Two (supposedly the hardest) will land Junior year when I might have another AP class. So what do you guys think? Is it better to have a solid AP language class (continuing French) out of the way by the time I graduate high school, or six years of language split between two languages? (the two years of French in another school might not count… Don’t know…) I’m going to talk with my counselor within the next few days, but I want a better grasp of what I actually want before I talk to her.
Reading through this, it doesn’t completely say everything, but suggestions/questions might help me decide…
Do you actually want to learn Latin or is it just the preferable option at the moment? I don’t know what you want to major in in college, if you’ve decided, but is it worth the work of doing either class, especially if you could learn either outside of school, compared to its impact on your grades and transcript?
I, personally, would be more impressed if you told me you took two years of two different languages (a lot of the colleges I’m looking at require two years).
I know what you mean about French, though. You’re right, losing your progress would be unfortunate, but if you’ve got a bad teacher and Latin is more fun, don’t stress yourself out over the choice. Purely for you and your happy? Go with Latin. For college? It might be better to have four years of French or it might be better to have two years of French in one school and two of Latin in another.
I think it’ll end up that both of those options are accepted. I think you should go with Latin, but listen to your counselor about college requirements because I am the last person you want to talk to about that with.

Sometimes I surprise myself.
I’m not much of a writer, at least not any more. But sometimes I get this idea and it won’t leave me alone and wonder of wonders, I open up a Word document and actually act upon the ideas the buzz through my head constantly. As it was today. I think I wrote a whole page. And while I realize that may not seem like a whole lot, I think that’s the most writing I’ve done outside of a school assignment in one sitting in a while.
Just one question remains. Why can’t I get brainwaves like this in November?
(If anyone wants to know what I wrote, it was.. well, I’m waiting to see what it develops into, if I ever take it that far. It’s set in a world where magic and technology coexist, and there’s been a big war going on for centuries between two factions. The piece of land where they’ve been fighting the entire time is basically a magical toxic waste sump, and both sides have been fighting remotely–like with drones, only they’re more likely to use resurrected zombie soldiers or something like that. So there isn’t even a sense of the human cost of war anymore, because nobody’s dying. At least not he soldiers. The people who live in the vicinity, on the other hand…
Also inspired by reading too many theories on exactly how magic is passed down in the Harry Potter universe, and taking an intro genetics course, and thinking it would be so much easier if the author just laid down a set of inheritance patterns and followed it, or at least said explicitly it was something spiritual. And then I started thinking about different modes of inheritance, and in particular how having an x-linekd recessive gene for magic would affect the culture of somewhere. When most men do have a scientifically more likely way of gaining power than women…also the inbreeding. And I’m kind of cramming every single fantastical idea I’ve ever had into this universe, just to make it all fit someplace.)

I made a clay squid today! I’m working at the museum again this summer and this current exhibit is about dirt soil, so all of the teen interpreters got to work with clay at today’s training! I don’t think I will fire it, not least because its skinny legs would probably break off in a kiln, but it is lovely.

Second day of finals today! I’m not sure how I did, still worried about my English final, which is tomorrow. Still.
I have discovered artistic liquid eyeliner. Which is to say, I’ve discovered you can draw on your face with liquid eyeliner. I currently have flowers blooming from the corners of my eyes.

It was a long time ago when she advised you to use capital letters. She wasn’t trying to criticize or be make you feel bad; she was just letting you know that some people (and she isn’t the only one) would prefer it if you did. When it was clear you were offended, she didn’t persist, because she could tell that being told to use capitals bothered your more than your not using them bothered her. That was fair. I know you were joking, but this happened months ago; I don’t think it’s really necessary to bring it up again.
I hope I don’t sound like I’m criticizing now, because I don’t mean to. I just thought maybe you should know that it’s a little bit unfair to Cinamoon to sarcastically get frightened when you “forget” to use capitals while talking to her. No worries, though! We’re not going to hold it against you, and I don’t want to make you feel bad.

We’re not very good at sarcasm here on MuseBlog. In fact, the whole Internet is a bad medium for sarcasm, just as a pure-oxygen atmosphere is a bad place to light matches. (Actually, it’s a good place in that you can get a big reaction without much effort, but bad in that the results are hard to control.) So we generally tend to say what we mean. That might take some getting used to, but it gets easier with practice.
Letting bygones be bygones is another unwritten policy we’ve found to work well in this combustible environment.

Oh no, no, you can definitely use sarcasm! It works, though, to take a look at what you’ve written, run it through your head, and see if there’s any possible way someone could interpret it as mean. Because we can’t hear your voice, we can’t tell a friendly, joking tone (which I’m sure is what you meant) from a harsh one. It’s easy to mistake someone for being mean here, although people almost never actually are.
So don’t “never use sarcasm again”! You seem like a funny person and sarcasm tends to be a big part of funniness. Just don’t direct your sarcasm at other people.

(the patterns are mostly too big to print out or anything as well! I’ve been using newspapers taped together for most of them)
Also: all the small tentacles and the two fins are sewn. Still need to do the longer arms. Then stuff the fins, sew them into the body/sew the body together, and stuff the tentacles.
Then I have to go buy more stuffing, heh.
I wish I’d mentioned this sooner — when I made my squid, I bought giant paper stuff from the fabric store, it comes on rolls the same way fabric does and was the right size for patterns and it’ll last longer than newspaper… usually when I make clothes I just use taped together newspaper for my preliminary design, though, so newspaper works fine if it’s a one-time thing.
I once made a 1/4 scale squid for a friend — that’s a 2′ instead of 8′ squid. I had trouble stuffing the tentacles though, and ended up hot gluing instead of hand sewing. It was kind of a last-minute thing. So I’d recommend full size if you have the space and resources for it.
Also, did I ever send pictures of me and my squid? because I have some on my external hard drive, she’s very photogenic

If you’ll permit me to ramble:
Last full day of living-alone-ness. I’m going to miss having the whole house to myself. I just got done pressing some tofu and now I have it marinating in some Soyaki from Trader Joe’s. I’m planning on doing something like pan-frying it. I might add some green onions too, but I’m not sure. This is my first time working with tofu, so I’m just kind of experimenting. We’ll see what happens.
Spending this time sans company (except for short daily visits to my grandma’s house to help her out and keep her company) hasn’t had quite the effect on me I expected. I thought I’d be pretty lazy and bored and nonproductive, but that hasn’t seem to have happened. Sure, I’ve spent a fair amount of time with video games, but I’ve gotten a lot of work done–cleaning, mowing lawns, watering flowers, studying, a bunch of stuff. Some odd motivation seems to have sprung up and made me want to be a better person. I was sorting through some old papers from high school yesterday, seeing if anything was worth saving, and I began to slightly regret not being more involved in clubs and social activities and that sort of thing. I had the strangest feeling of wanting to be involved with a group of people and working towards a goal. Both of those things have never been exactly my style. I feel less misanthropic and I’ve become determined to sort through some problems with myself.
I suppose that a break from the constant small annoyances other people cause has let me get a breath of fresh air and a clearer perspective on things. I’m not sure. I’ll try to create more extended breaks like this in the future–more than the couple of hours I normally try and snag here and there. If I can ever straighten out my transportation situation, I really do want to travel. Ah, that’s another shift–I want to travel and meet people, not just travel and look at stuff. I want to chat with strangers at a cafe, or help a hitchhiker get somewhere, or get to know a park ranger, or something. Of course, I do still have a realistic grasp on things: I know that I’ll never be outgoing, never not get exhausted from socialization, never feel entirely at ease with strangers. But there are things I can change, and I want to start doing that now.

The tofu turned out well–I somehow managed to cook it perfectly–though sautéing it in the marinade is something I will not do a second time. I once again underestimated how powerful that Soyaki is.

I think it looks like it’s going to be at least decent, even if I do question some of their casting choices.
My roommate, on the other hand, makes the most ridiculous squeaky noises of righteous anger whenever someone even mentions it. Because, you know, they’re totally making it JUST to spite her and everything. It’s hilarious.
Which casting choices do you question?
I ask because I’m not familiar with anyone who’s been cast, except for Sam Barks (who I really do like as ‘Ponine) and Colm Wilkinson, and so I’m quite curious to hear what you think of the rest of the cast.
Aaron Tveit is great. Hugh Jackman can sing and should be pretty good. I don’t like Amanda Seyfried very much, but she’s been in other movie musicals, so she should be okay, I guess.
Yes yes yes yes! I feel like it’s just going to make the fandom even more terrible than it already is, but against my better judgment I am really excited. I’m probably going to go on the opening night with Terpsichore. The preview looks great, and hey, anything would be better than the last Les Mis movie. (Marius as the leader of the Amis? What even?)

I’ll try to keep this quick and relatively trigger-free, but even before the blowups in August and December, the place wasn’t great. It basically ranged from people hating on Cosette because they identified with Eponine to people getting in raging, wild, horrible, friendship-ending fights about who the best Grantaire was.
I wasn’t there for whatever happened in August, so I have no idea what it was, but after it was done, two of the people I admire most in the world refused to speak to each other ever again. Then, in December, there was another big fandom blowup; people were accused of homophobia, people were purposefully misgendered, people with mental health problems were told to do terrible things to themselves, and one particular friend of mine was called something that I refuse to repeat, ever. I didn’t take sides in either of these, but because I refuse to stop being friends with anyone, the number of the people in the fandom I can actually talk to without being snapped at for being friends with other people has basically been narrowed down to six.
These days, the fandom is split into two. Each side never misses an opportunity to snap at the other, say the other side is bringing the entire fandom down, and try to tell new fans not to ever talk to the other side, ever. It’s gotten to the point where one of my friends is actively hoping that the new fans the movie brings in are really terrible so the fandom can unite in hatred against them, and I can’t say I blame en.
Glaaah. I mean, I think everyone can identify with Eponine, but I never hated on Cosette for it.
And friendship-ending fights? For Pete’s sake, people, it’s a musical/book/future movie. Fandoms are supposed to be people sharing a common interest coming together to discuss and celebrate that common interest.
That’s horrible.
today i am going to our carnival we have in our town (i figure the GAPAs would snip out the name). i am so happy because this will be the 2nd time my Dad’s band will play at a carnival. mom said she would give me some money to spend on cotton candy and prizes . my grandmother will be here in a few minutes to pick me up* ! i will give more updates later. bye!!!

well i didn’t get to have any funnel cake but i had some rootbeer and a smoothie (strawberry flavor) one onion ring and some Cotton Candy (ALWAYS gotta have those.) i played quite a few games but only won 4 prizes of the following nature: a big balloon sword (by the power of graysk- never mind ) a big stuffed toy cat (about 17 inches tall) and a little toy cat and a little toy pug dog. the band was great. i didn’t get to go on any rides but i had fun anyways. let’s get to the point, EVERYTHING about that carnival was awesome! even the porta-potties they had were awesome. it was THAT awesome. i would guess half the population in Wisconsin was there. i loved it

The final was today in AP US History! We debated immigration, alternative energy, abortion, affirmative action, and involvement in the Middle East; it was awesome. My history teacher apparently told my mother afterwards that she could see I was “feeling very sassy.” Um. Okay?
I also had a dream that I was bicycling around, and found a jar full of dirt that I interpreted artistically, and then while looking for something and following an arguing couple who knew where it was, I got lost and ended up on a beach by the Bay Bridge. I went out to the sea and when I turned back, my bike was gone, so I picked up an abandoned one and started to bicycle off, then started to sing “The Sun’ll Come Out Tomorrow” suddenly disappeared.
For some reason this won’t get out of my head. I made a Note on my iTouch that reads SUN BICYCLING, FINDERS OF LOST THINGS. Roads, threads and Hope a specialty, and I think there’s something about angels all mixed up with it in my head. I love having ideas very slowly.
I saw the Benedict Cumberbatch/Jonny Lee Miller Frankenstein filmed play last night. It was utterly fantastic. The actors were tremendously talented, the staging was beautiful, and I love the way they chose to adapt the novel to the stage. Parts of the book that would have dragged on a bit were cut, Elizabeth became an actual, strong character, and the theme was communicated perhaps even more powerfully. Wonderful. I saw Cumberbatch as Victor, but I would have liked to see the reverse casting as well.

I wish I had a superpower that let me rid the world of food allergies/intolerances. I’m not allergic to any kind of food, but I always feel sorry for people who are.
Just got back from an amazing long weekend in Styria. I’m completely rubbish at expressing it, but I’ve never realized how much my school friends and acquaintances mean to me. I never thought I could care that much about anyone I didn’t know from before things started getting unpleasant at home because I’m afraid of rejection and being hurt and deep down, I can’t help believing my mom when she says I have “social difficulties” or my dad when he tells me I’m not going to get into college and I keep doubting that my friends actually like me and I never wanted to let people get close enough to me to let me be so vulnerable with anyone else.
But I just sort of realized that they care about me too and won’t suddenly start insulting and belittling me and that I can make friends who like me, who have made me a better person and taught me so much about everything even though they don’t know half of what’s really going on with me. And that I can be honest and speak my mind with people without being kicked out. That I can feel safe and completely at home with my high school classmates (including some enemies) far from “home”. That people will help you when you’re down instead of trying to manipulate you when your defenses are low. Of course, we’re all spreading out over three or so continents now. But I can be myself and love and be loved and that’s exhilarating and terrifying. I sort of want to cry now and I don’t know why because I’m happy I think. And I love you guys too and I hope that someday I can be there for you the way you’ve been there for me through everything.* So yeah, I guess I just wanted to share that.
*Though if you have a perfect life of giddy happiness without any problems at any point whatsoever I won’t be offended. (*wink*)
I am done with school! And I finally saw The Avengers yesterday and it was beautiful and amazing. Along with Prometheus, which had me crying uncontrollably and feeling like I would throw up. (Warning: take Alien‘s yuck factor, amplify it by a factor of ten, and then do the same for the special effects.) I suppose it would have been good if I had a stronger stomach but as it stands I could barely get to sleep last night and I felt pukey for a couple of hours afterward.
Also I spent much of yesterday pretending to be Loki and believe there is something wrong with that.
The Zoo smells awful in the heat, but the Bird House is cool, relatively uncrowded, and full of pretty birds.
Also, the Visitor Center sells stuffed Komodo Dragons. I have NEVER seen stuffed Komodo Dragons for sale anywhere before! Where were these when I was six and nobody in my class believed me that they existed?
I know what you mean about the Komodo dragons. My former child selves are envious of the incredible diversity of stuffed-animal species available today.
This probably isn’t the best time to boast about my stuffed tardigrade, but I think I’m going to be insensitive and do it anyway.

That depends on how you define “big” and “small”. Without having it by me right now, I can roughly say that it’s bigger than my hand, although I do have relatively small hands.
That sounds fairly compact. If they come in two sizes, I’d say there’s a good chance that you have chosen the lesser of the two weevils.

Tesseract, would you happen to know if the high school all-district solos are different from their respective all-state audition solos? I know they are different on the middle school level, but I just don’t know about high school and I may have accidentally ordered the all-state audition book.
They are, because Central District is dumb sometimes. The list is usually up by this time of year but doesn’t seem to be yet. There has been discussion about moving to a format consistent with the rest of the state, so you may be okay, but likely you have the wrong piece.
I have to get my wisdom teeth out tomorrow. I’m really scared.

I was an usher at my high school’s graduation this afternoon. Watching all of the seniors graduate and knowing that I’ll never see most of them again…I hope that I will stay in touch with all of those I really care about, but you never know. Some of them are going to California or farther. The theme of the senior speeches (class president, ASB president, and four valedictorians) was Disney quotes, and some of them were really sweet. If I was tearing up now, next year (when I’ll probably have to talk!) will be way, way harder. And that’s only a year away, which I can’t believe.

Exams are finally over! I’ve been barely posting these past few days but I will catch up now. Last day ever at my school will be Wednesday. It’s an odd thought. It still hasn’t sunk in yet that I’ll be leaving end of August. I am very excited though!
SFTDP but I’m also very happy I beat my old mile time by 33 seconds, despite not having exercised properly in days and recovering blisters (huge ones) on my feet! (Long story, I was playing football barefoot on the field, which is turf, also it was a very hot day.)

Awkward question time: N lives in another state. I would like to stay in contact with her. Emails, while useful, are not that great . Communicating with her regularly was hard, and since neither of us reply quickly now, not much is said. I do not like the idea of losing a friendship I maintained when we saw each other in real life because she moved. Apparently friends(those who have phones and credit anyway!) tend to have long, non-awkward, phone calls. How exactly do I go about that? Is it a sign my frienships have issues that encounters do turn awkward so easily? Well, I know my friendships have issues, but that’s aother post. Advice?
It’s only awkward if you make it. just talk to en over the phone like you would in person. Video calls are also nice if you really want to see them while you’re talking. If this is a friendship you really want to keep up, I wouldn’t let awkwardness get in the way. Just act natural.
Awkwardness is overrated anyhow. It’s simply the small admission fee for being an active participant in life.

Hi, guys! I survived getting my wisdom teeth out, although it was very scary at the beginning. I’m back to conciousness now, although I keep throwing up bile, which is gross. My parents are being really awesome. Thank you all for the squids & sympathy on my last post. You guys are great.

I am in Band II and a rising freshman, because everyone in Wind Ensemble is really, really good and they have really killer musicians, including the best tenor saxophonist in the state (meep). So I’ll be in Band II on tenor sax unless there are not enough trombones, in which case I’ll be in Band II on trombone.
What do you play?
I managed to eat some food without throwing up. Now I’ll have to see if I can keep pain meds down.
Pain meds made me feel nauseous again, so I ended up taking only 3/4 of the minimum dose. However, it’s been hours since then & I only feel about the amount of pain you get from a routine visit to the orthodontist when you have braces–it hurts, but it isn’t excruciating. We do have children’s Tylenol for me to take instead of the other medication, though, since I can tolerate it better.

I have learned how to play Fiddler’s Green on the ukulele! Playing the uke is so much fun. I thought I would fall out of doing it after a while, but I haven’t let. It gets funner.
Also, apparently a friend-of-a-friend who also plays the ukulele has invented a game called ukulele soccer. This involves singing at the top of your lungs, playing a song (apparently I’m Yours, Jason Mraz, is a marvelous choice) and trying to score a goal. Intriguing…
Wisdom teeth come out tomorrow morning, erp. I’m actually not nervous at all (although perhaps I should be), although I’m certainly not looking forward to it. They’ve been aching recently, so in the long run it’ll be nice to have them out.
I’m working at Staples this summer, so that’s mostly what I did today. Be nice to cashiers, guys. It’s so much more pleasant when people chat a little or at least seem nice. I’m actually enjoying it so far, although it’s only been a few days. It’s not mind-numbing, but it’s simple enough that I can think about other things, and the level of human interaction is good for me.
Project Grad, the all-night (11pm-4am) substance-free party for seniors graduation night, was on Saturday. Most people go. There are a ton of prizes–I won a $25 gift card in the (free) casino playing my calc teacher in blackjack. My friend won a $500 scholarship. Each senior can bring one non-senior guest, so my (senior) friend Adam and I brought two junior band/SciOly friends. The theme was Cirque, which was pretty neat. There was an aerial show and a hypnotism show. The latter was unbelievable! Hysterical, for sure, but there has to be some placebo element to it. Anyway, I had a great time with my friends. The four of us hung out for part of the time with my friends Zack and Casey (a couple, although a quite recent one), which was also nice. Casey is one of my best friends and I hadn’t seen her in about a week, which felt incredibly long.
I’m a little concerned by how long it felt, actually. I miss her a lot. Many of my friends I’d seen in the week since school ended, or I didn’t see as consistently daily at school anyway. Casey and Christine I see every day (I sat next to Casey in band and had my afternoon classes all with Christine), so it’s been weird and lonely not seeing them. It’s a taste of what it’ll be like next year. Of course, I’ll make new friends and get caught up in college, but I really love my high school friends and want to maintain those friendships. With most of my friends, they’ll be going to college as well and we won’t be as immediately relevant in each others’ lives anymore. And Casey is a junior, so she’ll still be here, and I won’t be. I… don’t really know where I’m going with this, and I need to go to bed because my wisdom teeth surgery is really early, so I’ll stop now, I guess. Basically I am going to miss my friends a lot and am already starting to.

I’ve gotten two ounces of Pedialyte down this morning, and it’s staying down. That’s good because I’m very dehydrated due to how much I threw up yesterday (about 16 times). It’s weird how insignificant things become big accomplishments. I’m still not in much pain, probably due to the fact that I’m pretty young to get my wisdom teeth out, so while they were very impacted, they were small and hadn’t put down roots. My mom is being basically the best person ever.
Amazon is showing the same book three times in the “Customers Who Bought This Book Also Bought” section to me. So they all bought three copies or…

In other news, my cousins visited today! My sister’s grad party is on saturday so we’re going to have people around al the time x_x and parents are in SUPER-CLEAN UP MODE, so I have to run around doing things.
ALSO I might make another squid? A friend of mine really wants one and said he’d make something for me in return. So we’ll see. Looking for other projects to do first though, need something else to keep me occupied in the meantime. Any suggestions?

I biked from my house to the library today. This is something I’ve wanted to do since I was approximately 14, and now I’ve finally done it. I’ve got a little bit of independence from my parent’s car now! And I can feel green while doing it, too!.
I wasn’t even sure I’d make it, and I kind of went on a whim, but I actually remembered the route pretty well and didn’t die in traffic so I’m counting this as a win. I wasn’t even all that exhausted! It was a lot less tiring than I thought it would be. It takes about forty minutes to get there, and another forty minutes back, and I have to go on some major roads that don’t have sidewalks, which is part of the reason I took forever to make this trip. But for so long now this has been a life goal of mine. For my entire high school career my life was basically school-home-school-home. I never went anywhere or did anything. It’s only when I started living on my own that new opportunities for me to get out and about arrived. But this victory was done at my home, which was like a virtual prison for so many years, so it’s got special meaning. I was amazed when I actually got there. And I called my parents to let them know where i was, and my mother was surprisingly cool with it, given how badly she freaked this other item I went off on my own without telling her, but I guess I wasn’t in college then and she has now accepted the inevitability of me running off whenever i want to. And then I went back home–again, it was quicker than I thought–and ate watermelon.
And there is a drugstore nearby and I can buy stuff and next time I am definitely bringing my library card and a backpack for books and a bike lock, because I didn’t bring them today since I didn’t think I would make it. And now I’m busy floating on happy exercise endorphins.
Not throwing up (at all, all day) + two bowls of soup (after ~36 hours of no food) = happiness.

Went to the doctor today re: insomnia. Determined that it’s most likely a physiological/genetic problem, and drew like three vials of blood to make sure it isn’t a thyroid thing. The bruise from that last is phenomenally disappointing, barely the size of a dime and really faint.
On the whole, yay!

I'm thinking about getting tested for insomnia stuff. My parents (mostly dad but mom doesn't think it's really a problem) are adamant that it's my own fault when I can't sleep/blame it on the fact I stay up late but even when I get up early/don't get much sleep it still takes me over an hour to fall asleep (and I can't even remember the last time I was asleep before midnight, or even 1am, the earlier I try to go to bed the harder it is). I've had trouble sleeping since I was reeeaaally little though, when my parents would send me to bed at nine and I'd stay up till midnight listening to audiobooks, so I'm pretty sure it's not just my habits x_x
Depends. The doctor gave me some vitamin supplements that she said might help, but she wants to wait ’til the blood work comes back before doing anything super drastic.
I think you should definitely at least have it looked into—the doctor said that the fact that this has been happening for so long (almost nine years, for me) means that it’s a lot more likely to be a physiological problem rather than a behavioral one, and it sounds like you’re the same way.

The trouble is I have so many projects I keep distracting myself and being like OH WAIT I need to sew this too! and look at all this handsewing business I should probably do that before I continue! and this other project uses the same color thread so I need to do that too! and should I do my handwash now so it can dry even though I haven’t finished sewing it yet? and do I really need a pattern for that cute dress I want to make or can’t I just, like, wing it? (Correct answer: NO THAT IS A BAD IDEA) There are definitely worse problems in the world though and as annoying things go it is really pretty un-annoying.

you could make a pattern out of old newspaper for the cute dress and then if the newspaper fits make the dress based on that. that is what I do (because I don’t actually know how to read patterns and size based on them)

I could. That’s a good idea, actually, though I find that sort of fitting VERY difficult to do without an assistant. But I’ve made a vow–no new clothes-making until I’ve finished all my mending and alterations because CAKE they stack up. Already this evening I have
•made a work-skirt out of a stretchy pencil skirt and a t-shirt to replace my old green-and-purple work skirt which stretched itself to death. My new one is purple and baby blue and A-line and has four panels
•mended an old orange ruffly skirt that had rick-rack falling off it
•modified a pair of bike shorts to wear under skirts
I still have to re-seam two evening gowns and a slip (to varying degrees), hem a skirt, patch my patchy pants, darn a knit dress, subtly mend a lace dress, put a zipper and hem in a dress I was making three years ago, and at some point hack my t-shirts to pieces so when I do farm labor I can take advantage of the sun and maybe get slightly browner than paper. I also have another stretchy pencil skirt (in black) and I am debating whether I need any pencil skirts at all and mightn’t it be better to have two cute A-line paneled casual/workskirts.
When I am done with all this I am going to reward myself by buying a new pair of flares and the pattern to the cute dress (can I post a link GAPAs please it is so Mostly Harmless that it might be Entirely Harmless. http: //www. colettepatterns. com/shop/ chantilly. It is so pretty!) and a few yards of green fabric with tiny white dots.

I thought for a long time that I hated clothes when what I actually hated was how popular clothes didn’t work with my body. As I’ve aged, changed shape, gained sewing skill, and started to accept myself a little more, I can completely understand loving clothes. I don’t think it’s shallow! I love clothes in the same way that I love computers (i.e. I want to take them apart and figure out how they work and make them better), and just because one’s traditionally female-dominated and the other’s traditionally male-dominated doesn’t make one any more frivolous than the other.
I’ve always loved clothes but it’s changed I think as I’ve gotten older. Well, actually it hasn’t, I just like clothes more now and am way more articulate about why. I don’t just like looking good, though of course that’s part of it and sure it’s a big part. I like looking good and being confident in what I am wearing and I like being complimented. But clothes and costuming are very evocative. There is definitely a certain power there, and even if reality is not going to warp to fit my costume (ha, that would be terrible), it does affect my mindset. There’s a part of it that is creative, sort of like acting. I get dressed, and I become a Character, and that character is an aspect of Alice, it’s not like I’m someone else, but maybe I’m Circus Alice or Fairytale Alice instead of Bookish Alice. (OK, done thinking in third person, that’s unpleasant.) It’s like LARPing every day. And then there’s another part of it which is kind of… “be the change you wish to see in the world.” If I want to see crazy outfits and lots of cool characters walking down the street, then all I can do to make that happen is be a cool character in a crazy outfit.
OK, so maybe I haven’t become much more articulate over the years after all. Maybe I’m delusional, but at least I’m delusional in exciting outfits.
Last day of school at my current (old?) school. At the very end when they dismissed us I did actually end up crying a little, even though I thought I wouldn’t. I’m no longer a student there. I’m awfully excited for England, but it’s still so sad to think that I’ll be leaving a school I’ve attended for 12 years…
Spun poi for the first time in AGES. For maybe half an hour total. It felt really nice. I’ve remembered most of what I knew though I have lost some skill, and my planes are a MESS, especially with anything behind my back.
But yeah. I think I’m going to come up with a routine… have been playing around with the song “Isara” by Eluveitie. I think if I come up with something I like over the summer, I’ll maybe do it for the fall circus show. I know I won’t have time to come up with anything while I’m in classes x_x
POI! I’ve been spinning so much since I got my glow poi, especially after dark. I’ve mostly been working on improving my planes and putting the moves I know around different parts of my body. I’ve been practising dancing to music as well, and it’s so fun! I’ve sort of been trying to make some sort of routine, but I don’t have the patience. I hope yours goes well!

On Sunday my harpsichord arrived, and it is GORGEOUS! I have books for how to learn to play keyboard instruments in general and harpsichord in particular, so IT SHALL BEGIN. Terrifying.
Tomorrow evening I’ve got a gig in Gettysburg, which is nice. I like it when people pay me for dressing up in my favorite clothes and playing music at them, and I like it even more when they let me do that while sitting in a discreet corner adding atmosphere by doing something I’d enjoy anyway.
Half a day of school left! And that is mostly taken up by the talent show, so it doesn’t really count. (I’m performing in the talent show for hula hooping. It’s going to be awesome. :))

My family and Camilla are going on a five-day camping trip to Cape Cod starting tomorrow, and I’m going to have no internet for the whole time… so I’m just pulling a very late night watching as much of X-Men Evolution as possible on YouTube, starting from the very beginning. I have been spending many enjoyable hours trying to figure out how the cake Kurt’s hands even work.
I saw the musical version of “Mary Poppins” tonight. It was excellent, with great effects for a traveling show! I mean, you can’t have Mary without at least a few wires and a lot of flying, and it definitely didn’t disappoint -exceeding expectations, if anything.
I’m done being a high school sophomore. I’m done. I’m DONE.

I love The Animorphs. It’s the series that got me interested in that genre in the first place. I read the entire series in late elementary school, but I really ought to reread it.
Remember that time when I posted singing the maréchal Pétain song out of desperation because I was still working on my paper at 2 a.m. and my hand was cramping up? My teacher thinks that paper is excellent and I actually made less mistakes than on any of my french papers. And somehow everyone thinks I’m going to succeed at the Matura, whereas I know that I don’t know what I know I should know, which is what other people think I know even though they themselves don’t know what they think I know because they don’t know.
Why did no one tell me the world was going crazy like this? I haven’t even started studying yet and I’m supposed to be finished!
Ironically, I’m not even looking forwards to graduation- I’m going to miss high school so much! But that doesn’t mean I want to fail either.

I’ve noticed a few incidents of this on MB lately–is it time for another one of Robert’s “Envy versus Jealousy” lectures?
Robert still thinks the distinction is useful but is starting to consider it a lost cause. *shakes head sadly*
Still, for anyone interested, as an editor I use the words to refer to different states of mind. Envy is a feeling of covetous ill-will directed toward someone who has something you wish you had. Jealousy is possessiveness of something or someone you already have (or think you do) and are afraid you might lose.
Historically, writers haven’t always observed the distinction, but it is worth being aware of as a reader at least. For example, in the Bible, when God says “I the Lord thy God am a jealous god,” it doesn’t mean God envies you. It means God considers you His property and doesn’t want you worshipping Baal, Ashtaroth, trees, golden calves, etc.

Next year, I’m interning somewhere my college doesn’t have a program, so they can’t make me take classes while I’m interning.
Tomorrow morning I’m getting together for coffee with one of my friends from middle school. I saw him at a handful of forensics tournaments in high school, but it’s been a while since I’ve seen him, and five years since I’ve had a chance to have a real conversation with him. I’m really looking forward to that. I’m also trying to organize another man-date with my usual friend; I intend to take him to a great little Czech restaurant I like. The waitresses there (the older ones, at least) still wear traditional dresses, and I believe they still have a strolling accordionist sometimes.
Meanwhile, I’m taking care of the lawn and landscaping of some family friends while they’re in Germany and Latvia for a couple weeks. They’re pretty well off, so I’m worried they’ll compensate me more than I think the work will actually deserve. Oh well, I guess it’ll go in the New Car Fund, because I know I won’t be able to talk them down.

It felt like twenty minutes, but we were at the coffee place for four hours. I’m glad neither of us seem to have grown into a person that the other disliked. We had the same crazy sort of conversation we had in middle school, albeit more refined–we came up with a dozen solid ideas for movies and TV series (as long as I’ve known him he’s been writing movies). I think we’ll probably be getting together again this summer.
Four hours is a very long time to try to play fiddle constantly without repeating tunes too often.
Maybe someday I’ll remember that.
Oh well. I mean, I’m getting paid for it so I can’t complain. Much.
Today after school, I went to a drama kid end-of-school pool party, and I seemed to have MuseBlogger anecdotes about every subject:

Gay marriage? “My friends in North Carolina are really disappointed about that amendment…”
Not to mention talking earlier to my French teacher and the German exchange student about my Austrian friend who’s taking the matura.

On that same topic, I always have trouble trying to tell people about stuff my Internet friends do. In history the other day, we were talking about Obama supporting gay marriage, and I was like, “Yeah, the LGBT community is kind of worried that if he loses the election the gay marriage thing will be blamed”. Which I know is true from various microblogging websites, but everyone was just kind of staring at me like, “How do you know the LGBT community, is this one of those ‘I have a friend who’ things, clearly you are L or G or B or T or something” which is true, but not my point.
I also reference that story of how Chok came out to her aunt by standing in the doorway of an evangelical church and shouting, “I am a homosexual atheist!” like, constantly. It is just such a good story.
Wait, Chok, you did? I want more details on this story! How have I not heard this before?!

Well, I do have some other people need to come out to (say, my parents and so forth) and so I may end up doing that again. You should come along!
Yeah, I have that problem too. You’ll notice that almost all of mine are prefaced with locations, which make the “my friend who” stories sound more concrete.
Also, I sometimes worry that things I say about “my friends” might get pinned to my real-life friends who the listener does know. For example, in the aforementioned conversation about gay marriage, I said that I care about the issue because it affects many of my friends, and I only realized later that the listeners might think I was implying that many of my real-life friends are gay.

Today’s news:
1. Going to be helping my friend out with his games program again. Whee. Thankfully I’ll be doing all the siting games, since I am in no way capable of running after children who all have a billion times more energy, flexibility, and speed than I do.
2. I decided to go ahead and continue to be in the play I was in last semester, as it’s going to be changed and continued this next one (it’s a community based arts play). So I’ll be headed back to school early. I’m pretty sure I’m excited about that, though it does mean that some possible later-summer plans won’t be able to happen. Or they will be different, I don’t know. I’m not sure how much earlier it will be yet, it could be up to 2 weeks. So yay/bah.
I don’t know which is the better part of doing music semi professionally: being able to play amazing music with amazing people (seriously, those of you who don’t listen to classical are missing out bigtime) or getting to spend your summers in beautiful exotic locations for free.
Now if you excuse me, I’ll be at what is supposedly the best beach in the us. Looking forward to finding out what the hype is about.

I’ve been looking for a certain graphic novel for years now, and only today did I have the sense to look in a comics shop. They had it, of course (though they didn’t have another book I was looking for). They also had some cards at the counter about an upcoming anime con as well as an upcoming pony con here in town. I will definitely be keeping those dates open on my calendar.
I used what I decided to be the last of my birthday money on a Wacom Bamboo Capture, because there’s another site I use a lot where I spend a lot of time drawing, and I’m tired of using a mouse for that. It’ll hopefully arrive today.
Of course, what I really should be doing is practicing piano–my sister and I are playing our cousin’s wedding next Saturday. Eh, I’m sure I’ll get around to it this next week….

Bibliophile- You’re right, as always. Blog relations are a bit odd, especially when clones are involved. My reasoning is: a real clone is someone who is genetically identical to you without necessarily being born to the same parents. Since siblings are based on kids with the same parents, they can be related to one clone and not the other. Blogclones are presumably less close-knit than real ones, so there is even less reason to assume relation to one’s blogclone’s relatives.
LittleBasementKitten- You are my one and only blogsibling. I have no other blogsisters, and I have no blogbrothers. Technically, I could be considered to be quasi-blogsiblings with Cskia through you, as she is your blogsister too, but I pulled the “I have no parents” trick to say that we are in fact not related. Not that I don’t like Cskia, she’s awesome. But it would just be kind of strange, somehow. And as to what you did, it was both of the things Bibli said. You ARE special, and you ARE awesome.

One of my best friends, Lee, had a huge fight with her parents this evening and so is staying at my house tonight. She’s been in a bad place this past year (though is in therapy, mostly because of her mom). These kinds of things were common in her house growing up but I’m glad she’s avoiding them rather than enduring them : /
Thanks to exams next week, I can’t justify spending too much time online. Though I do have a urge to watch more Glee. And Freaks and Geeks, Daria, Enterprise, Big Bang Theory, Korra…Result: My things to do/look up list has about 12 items. I should have enough to do in the holidays.

As an aside, I just went to the store and bought fabric, deliberating between a couple choices – and when I got back and looked at the pictures again, I think the fabric I chose is exactly the same one Jadestone bought! I didn’t even realize that until I looked at the pictures again… Great minds think alike, I guess!

Yup. xD I promise I wasn’t intentionally copying you… I couldn’t even remember what color yours was when I was in the store. (I was trying to think of a good color for a space-squid, and was wondering what color yours was and couldn’t remember. :D) But unintentional imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, right? The insides of mine squid’s tentacles are different colors, so we’ll still be able to tell them apart.

I went to my friends’ graduation party today. I had been a bit concerned, since I’d not seen or heard much (if anything) from either of my friends that I know well for 8 months, and the rest who were there I don’t know very well, only through other bonfire parties. But it was good. There were some times when i was a bit left out, but that’s to be expected when I’m the only one who didn’t go to their school and know all their teachers and friends and all.
And now my hair smells like woodsmoke and it is glorious.
Also it is 1:20 and I’m tired but I’m also kind of too alive feeling to sleep right now. I just had a wonderful phone conversation with another friend. It started out with “so, if you were to be an animal, what would it be” and I answered a giant space squid. Then we started talking about experience and how you can’t really experience another person’s life, because if you did it would be your life. So even if you became a different person, there would be no way that you would know, because you would be them. I don’t know if that makes any sense, but it was fun. Then we discussed more philosophical things and about shipping companies using wind power for their ships, and laughed and it was just really great and made me all happy and cozy.
The blog is acting somewhat strangely, threads are loading but the tab (I’m using firefox) keeps having the animated swirly that says it’s not loaded yet. None of the other sites I’m on are doing that, only MB. Is anyone else having this? Comments have been going through and the page loads, it just doesn’t seem to think it has. Peculiar.

i know i reciently was named “BattleCatra” but i changed my name AGAIN. because i don’t want things to get boring. over in the cornor of my room my fat little gerbil is chewing a potato chip. on the other side of our driveway. is my cat Fugitive (i don’t own her yet but i will soon) and up in the sky the sun is sending out rays of heat on my head so it is 89 degrees.

I am making pizzas! The dough is rising at the moment. I need to have a bread making day soon. My mom and I used to cook a lot when I was younger but not anymore. I think my mom’s tired of cooking. Still, I shall go at it myself. And make yummy good bread. Om nom nom.
*Is jealous of everyone who can cook more than just pasta* I’ll have to learn to do this one day. My mom doesn’t cook much anymore as well but her soups were always so good…
It’s really simple! If you have an electric mixer/dough hook especially. Even if you don’t, though, the dough is pretty basic. Yeast, flour, salt, sugar, water. It takes about two hours total to make the dough and put together the pizzas. I can give you the recipe if you would like! It’s really easy and yummy.

This makes about two pizzas.
1 1/2 tbl yeast
1 7/8 c water
3 tsp sugar
4 1/2 c flour
2 1/4 tsp salt
1 1/2 tbl olive oil
Sesame seeds
If you’re using an electric mixer, put the dough hook on.
Dissolve the yeast in 1/2 cup warm water. You don’t want it to be boiling, but it has to be hot. The hottest tap water will go is usually plently hot enough. Add the sugar to this (sprinkle it on top) and let it sit for about ten minutes. This should be long enough for the yeast to activate, which means that it will get all bubbly and frothy.
While the yeast is activating, mix the flour and salt together. If you have an electric mixer, put it in there, but leave about a cup of flour out. If you don’t, it’s cool; just put it all in the bowl.
Add the yeast mixture to the rest of the warm water. Pour this onto the flour mixture. Mix together, on the lowest setting of the mixer if you’re using one, for a couple of minutes, until it’s sticky but vaguely smooth.
Next, add the rest of the flour and the oil. Mix together this until it sticks together, isn’t sticky, and is kind of elastic. All of the dough in the bowl will be together in one big clump. You don’t want to overbeat it, though, so just make sure it isn’t too sticky.
Knead this on a flour-sprinkled board until it’s elastic and feels right. If you find it’s sticking to your hands coat them in a little flour. You want to work the oil in pretty good.
Put the dough back in the bowl and cover with a cloth. Put somewhere warmish (an oven, for example, is too warm, but the fridge is too cold) and let it rise for an hour.
Fifteen minutes before the hour is up, preheat the oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit.
Once an hour has passed, punch down the bread dough. (It’s really, really fun.) Take the dough out, knead it a bit. You want to work on a flour covered surface. Finally, roll out the dough. This is hard if you haven’t done it before, but it will eventually get down. You can roll out two pizzas for the amount of dough here.
Coat two cookie sheets with olive oil. Sprinkle with sesame seeds. I like to put the crusts in the oven for a few minutes, but that’s optional. It does make them easier to spread sauce on, however.
Spread on the sauce and sprinkle on cheese. Cook until the cheese is bubbly and slightly browned.
Oh wow, I didn’t realize this was up here until now…I must have been in the mountains. Thank you for this! I will see if I can prepare it for dinner one day!

Hello Museblog. I am sorry I haven’t been posting a whole lot because I have been so busy with life. I probably won’t ever be as active as I was before, but I will still lurk occasionally. So this might be a half-way goodbye. Also I want to tell you guys something. I have never told anyone before. (And the one person I know in real life, if you read this, please don’t say anything). I would like to officially come out to Museblog as FtM transgender. That is all. So long Museblog, I don’t know when life will give me the chance to come back.
I didn’t know if I was actually going to post that, saying it online to people who don’t even know me in real life nearly gave me a heart attack. How am I ever going to do it in real life? Also above post felt way to heavy, I needed to lighten it up a bit.

In other news, I just got back from visiting my grandparents and cousins in Canada. Fun, but awkward when my girl cousin’s boyfriend was there (I didn’t know his name, but he seemed nice), and when people wanted to hug me.
I’m supposed to be planning what to do in Washington DC and New York. So far I have a list of commonly-visited landmarks and some Smithsonian Museums. Any other suggestions, anyone?
Also, I’d love to add Kokons to my agenda. I’ll be in DC August 23 to 25, New York the 26th to the 30th, then back in DC until September 1. Anyone, anything? *hopefulness*
The Spy Museum in DC is great! Another great thing to do there is visit Robert! In New York, I would suggest the Cloisters, the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Medieval Exhibits and gardens.
I second this. I went to the International Spy Museum the time I went to DC, and I had the time of my life. I was amazed at the stuff I learned. Oh, I also second visiting Robert.
I’ll be back in New York, maybe we can Kokonvene then! (I’d love to show you the American Museum of Natural History or the Intrepid, especially now that the Space Shuttle Enterprise is there.)
As for DC, I highly recommend the National Geographic Society headquarters, the US Botanic Gardens, the National Zoo, NASA Headquarters, and Arlington National Cemetary (technically, that’s in Virginia, not DC itself, but it’s incredibly close.)
At the Smithsonian in particular, I recommend the Castle gardens, the National Museum of Natural History (especially for you, because they have some real squids on display), and of course, the National Air and Space Museum.

1 WTC is good to see from a distance, I highly recommend the Staten Island Ferry. It’s free, and you can also see the Statue of Liberty (which is closed for renovations). To visit the 9/11 memorial you need to reserve visitor passes ahead of time, which is also free.

There’s this really tiny hole-in-the-wall inside Le Parker Meridien Hotel near Times Square that sells burgers called The Burger Joint. It’s honest-to-god impossible to find if you don’t know it’s there, and it’s incredible. There are celebrities who signed their names on the wall and the french fries are the best thing you’ll ever, ever taste. You have to go there.
Last week I started volunteering at the botanical gardens, in the native plant section. It was fun. I was the youngest person there, but I didn’t have any trouble talking to people. Everyone there is a really hardcore gardener, and I leave most of that stuff to my mother, so I felt like I was a lot less…I dunno. Knowledgeable, I guess. But that’s one of the things that volunteering here will be able to change. Also, people who work at the botanical gardens or volunteer there get to take home leftover plants. There’s an entire table by one of the greenhouses dedicated to freebies. I brought some home with me the very first day.
On Friday a whole bunch of friends from high school held this reunion/get-together at a restaurant. The food was good. Although I think I’d forgotten how loud everyone could talk, and with me just sitting on the edge trying to follow the conversation…It was enjoyable, though having to spend five hours waiting at the masjid because my dad wouldn’t leave was a bit of a drag. I really want transportational independence.
On Saturday I went to eh library. I’m reading the Dresden Files right now.
Sunday and Monday have been spent doing nothing of importance, and today looks to be like that too, with one major change. I finally got tired of my dad’s refusal to turn on the AC and moved down tot he basement. It’s where I’m typing this, right now.
Me: *sorting mail* “Now here’s a topic near and dear to my heart…”
My Boss: “Really? What topic?”
Me: “Civil War battlefield conservation. I wrote a paper about it for my Writing class back in April.” *goes on and on about archeology and protecting battlefields from development*
No points for guessing who he assigned writing the response to that letter to.
Ah, June…that time when cute teenage tourist boys flood my town.
And then they watch you struggle for five minutes with your bike lock and finally go into the store, completely disheveled, for about two minutes, then go out and fight with the bike lock for another ten.
Well. *ahem* That wasn’t embarrassing, at least.
On the plus side, I got chocolate chips at the store. Chocolate chip scones, I made. Chocolate chip scones, I ate. And flour didn’t even get all over the floor.
*hugs* The teenage boys thing stinks, but chocolate chip scones… can you send some to me over the Eggernet?
Yesterday was cold and I wore a sweater all day and today it is 20 degrees warmer and I am sweating. What.
In other news, I have kind of decided to try to learn more poi stuff because I can do very basic things and nothing more, and that is boring and not as cool as I want to be.
Ugh there are all these things that I want to learn but learning includes a lot of frustration and getting up the motivation to willingly put myself through that with no external discipline is hard. [/self-hating whine]

Really? I really, really want to go there now. Every time I got frustrated or annoyed about a misunderstanding with a person, I could just wander around for a few minutes until I found a sheep to distract me! I have no idea whether sheep are normally friendly, but they must be fun to watch, at least.
I’m on the fence about this due to my lingering, deep-seated guilt about anything sheep-related.

I went to NASA Day on the Hill, and I got all of this free stuff and I saw my friends from last year, and I saw astronaut Pat Forrester, who remembered me from last year… And the other interns in my office actually went to check it out because I was yammering about it so much.
My life:
-Drawing on the new tablet: ridiculously fun, and I’m catching on fairly quickly. Since I’m a student I got myself a free copy of Autodesk SketchBook Pro. I’m not terribly impressed with it (the free program Sumo Paint seems to work better for me), but I’ll keep at it.
-Drinking coffee: had some Kenya AA this morning; best I’ve had yet, I think, in the drip coffee realm.
-Reading: some Wodehouse, some Chesterton, some Thoreau, and I had a local store order me Sam Hamill’s translation of Basho’s Narrow Road to the Interior, so I’ll read that as soon as it arrives.
-Cleaning: I’ve thrown out four large trash bags of junk the past couple days, and I still have a long way to go. I’m donating quite a bit as well, but most of the stuff I have lying around isn’t even worth giving away. I’ve just decided that I’m tired of having stuff, and it’s not making my life any more enjoyable, so I’m getting rid of most of it. Living minimalistically, that sort of thing. I’d still like to get rid of my loft bed and just use a futon on the floor, but I doubt that’ll happen–when we do get rid of this bed, I think my parents will want to get a normal bed frame so my bedroom can be used as a guest bedroom in the future.
And assorted other activities.
