Shadow Play

If a groundhog sees Kokopelli instead of his own shadow, what does that mean for the next six weeks? Whatever the weather, the February Random Thread forges ahead.

First, though…

Oh, actually ON topic, when a groundhog sees Koko’s shadow it (I think,) means either:
    1. Koko is in the groundhog’s suit.
    2. Koko’s true personality is like that of a groundhog
    3. Extra pies for everyone!

Most of the drawing I did in Photoshop. Then I colored it with a digital crayon in a nifty little program called ArtRage. You can’t see the crayon effect as such, since I turned it into a wash. By the way, a limited edition of ArtRage (the company calls is a “starter” version) is available free. Anyone who wants something simple to learn yet much more exciting to use than the likes of MS Paint might want to take a look. (Google it. The full version costs only $25.)

32- Tomorrow we’re going to see our friend who also celebrates Imbolc. And today we had whipped cream.
If you had asked me at four how my day was going, the answer would have been “Wonderful!” But sometime between then and now, something went horribly wrong. That’d be several somethings.
First of all, I had to walk a very long way home from school, and I was making plans for when I got home the whole time. I was going to take a nice hot bath to get all the paint off me hands and arms, and work on my homework, and have a bite to eat while the bath was running, and then I was going to sit down in the living room or the dining room, both of which I stayed up late last night to clean, and since Mother was going to move all those boxes of fabric down to the basement, I would be able to think, and I was going to study. And then I would go on MuseBlog.
But of course. Instead my day had to become thoroughly rotten. When I got home, there was no more bread or miso soup left (forget the quick bite to eat while my bath was running), the living room was a pigsty, the bath was full of lukewarm water meaning that there wouldn’t be any hot water so I couldn’t take a bath, the boxes had not been moved, and, on top of this all, my book is missing.
I feel less than perfectly sane.

    Hi all…
So, we had a snow day today, which they didn’t announce until I’d already been awake five minutes or so. I *think* I had a lucid dream after that, though. It was very weird and I’m not sure. ***FOR THOSE OF YOU READING: I GO ON LONG WINDING TANGENT HERE*** So, it was a dream where there was this dictator who was evil, and by that I mean genuinely a bad person and not the funny kind of evil or even the deliberate kind. And I was in this big group of people (kind of, a long line of us, except I kind of knew them) and it felt like we were refugees or something or maybe we were dissenters or had just gotten in the way of something, but s/he was going to kill us. Well, that was the reason we were going to die, but I don’t think I ever saw them. maybe a few people leading us, guards. I was with my family presumably but we didn’t talk. I passed a big field, and a waterwheel or something that had very sharp blades on it as the parts of the waterwheel that the water catches on, and went down a path to a house that, as I knew, people entered but didn’t leave. And the line slowed to almost nothing and my fear that I had pushed into the background grew as I realized that it was really happening and I was going to die. I then asked myself, in my terror, is it really happening? This can’t be. It must be a dream (at this point a little of the back of my mind is thinking oh, cool, I can make this a lucid dream). So, still terrified and not really sure it was going to work, I took a step forward towards a forest across another field, at a right angle from the path I was on leading directly to the house’s front porch, and imagined opening a set of white feathery wings on my back, flapping them, and flying away. And I knew I was flying. It felt like falling from a whole bunch of different directions at once with wind currents, and I wasn’t afraid at all, but I was also aware that I was lying in bed with my eyes closed. Then I came back to the path, relieved and happy that it was a dream. But although my dream eyes were open I could feel my eyes also tightly shut. So I opened the other eyes and then I was awake with my eyes open, to my disappointment. ***TANGENT OVER*** Tomorrow I have to wake up early, though, so I won’t get a chance to dream. I could try going to bed now, I suppose, but why?

And there are no elements with a q in the abbreviation. The best I can do for my real name, with the help of a chart, is:
    (gold-uranium) neon neon iodine (europium-uranium)
Why aren’t any elements named just “A” or “E”?

((also, note to GAPAs: I want to see what happens when I try to login to my wordpress account from the login link on the bottom of the page. 75- i think it was said a while ago by the GAPAs that they are all old enough to be our parents. (late 40s, early 50s) let me give you some good comics to read. Scott Pilgrim by Bryan Lee O’Malley is one of the bast series ever. if you like video games you’ll probably like this, Zombies Calling by Faith Erin Hicks it’s her first book and not amazing but i like it. it’s funny., Thieves and Kings by Mark Oakley is actualy the most amazing series I have ever read. M’Oak is a master of art and story telling. this is probably really hard to find because the 5th book came out in 2005/2006 and he’s taking a hiatus. but if you can find it (or order it through the website, his prices have dropped seriously from when i bought the books. i think the first book is now around $15 whereas it was over $20 when i got it) you should deffinitely read it. because it is awesome.

90- You got to drive? I think I need to learn soon. I keep having dreams about driving…

I had the weirdest dream last night. I think that my family was sort of like a part of the underground railroad, except in modern times, and we had this big van. And the beginning, or at least as far as I remember it, was in this big house with warm orange light and shiny brown wood floors, and it was really comforting, and I was reading about this rabbit in France, that hibernated in the snow, and it was going to die soon, and that was sort of scary, and I went up the steps to where our van was parked to get my book or something, and there were people in the van, and this one boy started to drive it away, and I was begging him to go back, but he wouldn’t. And it had happened before, sort of, but then I had managed to convince the driver to turn back. And so we were driving along the highway for a long time, and I was thinking about what people would say when they saw I was gone, and we went to Disney World and we snuck in and…well, something must have happened besides me talking to the other people in the van, because I was in school, and people were talking about me being abducted, and I said, “Oh, but I wasn’t really, it was just a dream” but three days had passed so I decided that I had been in a coma. (And Brenda had a very weird headdress, but that’s another story.) And my mother worked at my school and she was cooking pizza and I was really happy to see her and really sad that I had missed three days of life, and everything had happened in those three days, including my previous dream, which was about ships and Muse Academy and was very sad for a reason that I cannot recall… And then I woke up, and I was very relieved that it wasn’t real.

ebeth feels bad! she hasn’t been on here in a while. :'( hello people.

i didn’t watch the superbowl. i was sick. i did watch the halftime show.

i stayed home from school today. mostly just slept. i still have a psychology paper to write that was supposed to be due today. today was a horrible day to miss, because i now have two tests to make up.

winter homecoming was saturday. i went with andy. it was a little awkward, but fun. we had it at the franklin conservatory, and it was freaking amazing. it was full of plants and little waterfalls and things. there were also the sweet chihuly sculptures and the glass floor. the music was horrible, as usual. we requested dr. worm and the time warp, but they wouldn’t play either song. :-(

actually when we first got there cheese found out that she’d forgotten her ticket, so she called her mom and had her drive it over. we waited outside with her for a while, and saw people running back to their cars going “forgot my ticket!”. it was pretty funny. then cheese’s mom came and we went inside and got breathalyzed, because our school is dumb and doesn’t trust us…prom is understandable, but homecoming?

what else has ebeth done lately…not much.

171-frisbee is pwnage. i love ultimate frisbee

i’m not a big fan of football…we used to play it in the backyard and stuff, but i liked soccer/frisbee/baseball/kickball/whatever else better. i go to all the football games (band) but i generally don’t pay much attention other than to say “yay! we’re winning!” or (more often) “aww, we’re losing”

165-ooh, nice :D according to just about everybody i’m supposed to start freaking out about colleges now but i’m still kind of like “eh…whatever”

143-that used to happen to me a lot (with the wrist, not the knee). mostly it was just sleeping on it oddly. i don’t have very good circulation, so things fall asleep easily. i’m pretty sure your knee shouldn’t hurt though…idk, mebbe it’s just stiff or something

i’ll read some of the rest of the thread but responding would take forever and i should really be doing my homework so i don’t die trying to make everything up tomorrow. peace and love

So, I’m just dropping by to tell the GAPAs how great they are… Jade and I were talking about the Museblog, and how it’s just not the same… If I was running the MB, I would’ve just given up by now…put up a thread saying that the Museblog just wasn’t worth keeping up now… But the GAPAs are still devoting their time to moderating, and there’s even the picture and caption at the top of the random thread… I probably shouldn’t be writing this when I’m supposed to be doing homework because I don’t want to cry or anything…Coldplay probably doesn’t help either… *rambles*
Anyway, I probably won’t be back unless the blog gets back to a more manageable size…So, bye everyone. I’ll be on RRR 2007.5 if it comes back to life, and I might post a few times, but I’m pretty much gone now. I’ll miss the bloggers who I like, and will probably miss the ones who irritate me as well. Anyway, I should leave…finish my homework…*cries*
I got on here first thing over the summer, as soon as I got up. I’d read anything that had happened on the random thread when I’d been asleep, and then spend all day waiting for people to come on or the GAPAs to moderate. I think that the blog’s more crowded than it was over the summer, not just that I have less time. I’m sure that I’ll regret having left, but I’ve decided. I just can’t handle reading threads, and I don’t want anyone to think that I might come back sometime. So my leaving’s official, or as official as it can be. I’ll probably read this thread for a bit, just to see what happens… Please, I want people to say what they really think about me. How much they hate me, how damn annoying I am, whatever. That I say damn too damn much (this is because of language restrictions, by the way. IRL my language is much more colourful). Didn’t I say that I was going to stop writing? I will now… Bye, everyone. (Here begins an account of Cinnamoon’s day. Feel free to skip.)
We had Citizenship first thing, where we had to watch a really boring video about vandalism… the guy on it tried to be funny, but he wasn’t. Then we had maths… Our maths teacher is getting annoyed, because we only have one lesson with him a fortnight, and we (me and S) almost always miss part of it ’cause of our singing lesson. So we got away and went to singing. We (Me, S and E) are doing our grade two soon, so we’re picking out songs for it. E is a great singer, S is pretty good, and me… Well, I’m just…

So I missed the first part of history because of singing. We finally got to watch the films we made. German was soooo boring… we did verbs the whole time.

At lunch we had magestrates court practice… I just sit there doing nothing the whole time because I’m going to be playing the usher… not the most demanding role. Then PE, which was boring, and English. (End of boring account.)

I came a few days after SM – 4, I believe – and wow, it really is only a month until I’ve been here two years!

I, also, haven’t been here as much. I still come on every day and read through some threads; skimming, usually. I think about a month ago, maybe a bit more, I realized my extreme computer addiction. I was on MuseBlog for several hours at a time, and when I wasn’t on, all I thought about was going on MB again. So one day, I decided I wasn’t going to go on the computer. And it really wasn’t difficult, at all. Instead of coming onto MuseBlog, I just read a book.

Ever since then, I realized that there are so many more things I could do than being on the computer all day, so I have started reading more, volunteering, studying ahead for next year, etc. And I have still been here, for about 30 minutes every day, probably. I really like the balance and it has really been working well.

However, it has become increasingly difficult for me to keep up with the blog. It just seems so crowded now, it takes me so long to catch up on the new posts. By the time I get on the computer and notice a new thread, there are already 100+ posts I have to read to catch up, and then when I finish reading them I don’t even have anything to say.

So I will only be posting on a few threads here and there, not necessarily keeping up on every single thread, as I used to. Fear not, though, fellow bloggers! I shall not be leaving, nor do I ever plan to. Yay MuseBlog!

Also, Muse came yesterday! I was really happy about that because I found out that the cancer had spread to my mom’s liver and she has to have half of it (one lobe) taken out in a few months. And that was really scary, and I was thinking about all the terrible things that could happen and such, and I’m really glad I had Muse to take my mind away from all of that.

You are depressed because you are a teenager (except you’re not TECHNICALLY a teenager).
You are confused because you are alternately depressed and happy, because you are a teenager.
    Yep. That’s life.

    Yo tengo mucho tarea.

I’m very confused myself. I sort of want to go to bed or something so I don’t have to think about everything. This is not good.

*sigh* When I look back a few posts at all the oldbies who are leaving/unhappy with the blog/etc., I remember last winter/spring, when everyone was complaining about pointless posts and everyone who wasn’t complaining was posting pointlessly, and the discussions that went on then. And I think, how can I change this? How can I make MuseBlog a friendly and enjoyable environment for all?
The answer, of course, is that I can’t, but the thing is, I want to try anyway. I’m trying to write longer posts, though that’s silly because if people can’t keep up because too many people are posting too much, then me putting all the many things I have to say into a few posts is going to be just the same only consolidated instead of spread out.

I want to read more. I want it to be summer. I want school to be OVER!!!!
On the 10th I can read something other than a textbook.

The entire second semester (two days) has been the weirdest school experience I’ve ever had. In the beginning of the year I just sort of fell into the routine, but now everything is different, and hardly anything is different. Different people, different classes, and a very bizarre sort of air to it all, like it’s just a weird dream that isn’t a dream at all. My entire life just changed with a little tweaking of my schedule. And yet nothing has changed. Life goes on, I even feel the same most of the time. It’s very rum.

All right, I’m going to post this now. It’ll be my last post of the night, so I’m prolonging it in case someone says something that I want to respond to.

He had never met a “real” emo before, and we all signed his forearm (to go with the whole “emo” mind-set). And then we were off, discussing why our life was so Dark Voidish.

If we can keep it that way then everyone can benefit, the ‘phyties will see how it’s done, the oldies will continue in their merry way and gain fresh insights byt the ‘phytie’s comments.

    252- I don’t mean this offensively, but you’re still a noob to me…

I don’t dislike newcomers. I just am annoyed by ones that don’t fit in with the blog. The problem is, there have been enough of them that they’ve changed the blog. A year ago, I came in, used the same punctuation, spelling, and grammar that I still do, and became a part of the blog. Now, it feels like this is getting rarer and rarer. I can understand why, but… my blog, you can’t change it! I don’t think I’ll leave the blog, although I could. I just don’t go here unless I have time to kill and I’m willing to ignore neophytes. I go other places when I’m in other moods.

off-topic: Things I Am Excited For:
-The Science Olympiad meet is this Saturday! I’m doing Fermi Questions and Cell Biology unless someone better at bio than me shows up.
-The school’s giving the AMC exam next Tuesday! The AMC 10 looks fun and pretty easy. (AMC= American Mathematics Competition) I’m really hoping I do well, although I haven’t prepared at all, so I really should do something about that…

my hair is straight. I’ve had it to about chin length, slightly layered when I’ve cut it for donation before but I want something possibly shorter and just dramatically different. Any ideas?

Grant- My uncle’s a professor at Wooster Polytechnic. Is that where you want to go? Good luck with the waiting list!

You know who Iago is, those of you who’ve watched the Disney Aladin. He’s that parrot that belongs to Jaffar. I think he’s the worst character (if he was a real person parrot) because not only is he an evil sidekick, he’s a nervous coward too, and switches sides to whoever has the most power.

    194) Fare thee well Glassboro~

    255) Hey, I don’t want to like lecture you or anything but cutting doesn’t make you “emo”, and I dislike that term because it seems to make cutting okay, or implies we don’t all have emotions, and really neither of those things are true. If any of your friends have harmed themselves that is a cry for attention, and i don’t mean the “omg I cut myself I’m so emo lololllll” kind of attention I mean they may just need a friend to be there for them. Teenage years are hard (take it from me oh god) and dismissing something like cutting as emo so it’s just part of life is no acceptable. Labels in general don’t do any good for anyone but I think the emo label is just destructive, people try to live up to it or are already in the sort of behavior the world wants to call “emo” such as god forbid showing emotion, so just…I don’t agree with it. All I’m saying is don’t dismiss it as a label, realize it could be something dangerous, and it can be worked out.

Me=very very very very madlike. Thomas (you don’t know him) went to the school counsoler and named all these people who cut themselves, and they got called into the office, and their parents might be notified. This is terrible, considering that three people got called today, and probably more tomarrow.
AIM was on FIRE, every single away message on my buddy list said something along the lines of “KILL THOMAS” or “don’t wear wristbands, wear jackets, they’re less obvious”. If he dosn’t come to school tomarrow because he’s dead/poisoned/beaten up, I won’t be surprised, and I won’t especially feel sorry for him either.
If he went to the counsoler to help us out, then maybe it would be okay, but he didn’t. He went and told because he knew that he would get us all in big trouble with the school and our parents. And you know what? He thinks it’s funny.
I’m clean, and so’s Elena, but everyone else has scars that show and are obvioulsy recent. Me and her can deny cutting, but the fifteen people I know who got named can’t.
If I wasn’t so worried about them, I wouldn’t be on MuseBlog, I’d be with the growing croud plotting and planning his fate.
So now everybody’s staying quiet and not telling anyone else that they or anyone they know have cut. The word “emo” and “cutting” haven’t been used in my school since second period. Or on IM either.

325-That’s awful of him. If people are telling to help it’s good, but he knew that it would be worse after.

327-It’s different for everyone. When I cut myself I found it relaxing, but I wouldn’t call it enjoyable. It can become a real addiction, as it was for me. The cutting releases adrenaline and endorphins into your body (the response to injury). I started because I didn’t know what else to do. Lots of people say it’s impossible to stop alone, and I think it is very hard. That doesn’t mean that you need counseling though, just someone who cares.
I went to counseling and I hated it. Quitting therapy was better than therapy for me.

When I cut, I’m not really thinking all that clearly, obviously.

336-What do you mean absent minded? I certainly wasn’t absent minded, I wasn’t like “Hmm. I wonder how all those random scars got there?” My friends (and I, a month or so ago) weren’t really trying to acomplish anything, it’s just really hard to explain. Unintended Pun does a better job than I do.

It’s so great that you were able to resist so quickly. It took me years to stop.
One of the things that worked for me was that every time I wanted to cut I would stare at my arms or legs and imagine it being my best friend’s until I felt like it would really be cutting my friend.
Never do the ice cube thing. You get frostbite so it’s really still self harming.

Really though, if you are afraid for your friends lives you have to get children’s services to help. Some of my friends have been helped by them, like my friend L. Her mom was abusive to her until she died of an OD, but now L and her brothers live with our friend M.

And then there was the ice-cream social. Because I am so incredibly shy, I spoke to no one but my schoolmates until the very end. Elijah and Alex showed me what an atoll was using ice-cream and ice-cream toppings. There were various little science experiments one could do, and every time someone got one right, the entire ******* team(s) cheered. No one else did, which made it all the more fun.

    On a lighter note-
Science Olympiad today was amazing and fun. I woke up at 4:45 and got to school at 5:45. We sang camp songs on the bus (almost all of the team are/were girl scouts) and talked and were excited. When we got there, there was a lot of waiting around. My first event was cell biology. It was mostly biochemistry, actually. We had to tell what to use iodine/Benedict’s solution/Biuret’s solution/silver nitrate to find, and then test four liquids, then the liquids with solution x added, then with heated solution x added, then analyze. There wasn’t nearly enough time for the tests, especially with cleaning out the test tubes after each test. We had to leave the last two rounds of testing undone. In the questions, we determined that x was an enzyme and answered questions on its properties. Right after cell bio I went to Fermi Questions. I had tried to study, but it didn’t help much. The questions were too varied and random to be able to study for. How many grams of cheese does New York produce in a year? I wish I were making it up, but I swear that was a question. Also, how many platelets are in a liter of blood and how many doctors and lawyers are in the US? Just the exponent. Those were my only two events, so I played games on my iPod and talked to people until two-ish, when we brought our things to the bus. We had a couple snowball fights too, because it had started snowing sometime during cell bio, 9:30-10:30. Then, we waited in the auditorium until the awards ceremony at four. Much to our surprise and joy, we placed third in cell bio. We also placed fourth in Write It/Do It and fifth in a couple events (SumoBots and…something else…) Then we went home on the bus, talking more.

Update: I went to see the Henry Darger exhibit at the Intuit museum downtown. If you don’t know who he is, you should, so google him! It’s amazing.

Um… I gave up on editing my Nano because I realized that half the plot was stolen from Twilight. Poopy. So next year I’ll write something COMPLETELY original. I hope.

384- We made a sign that said, “We are Beowulf” and put it on the boys’ door. They kept taking it down, so eventually we gave up.

389- Ooh! Oooh! I want one!

    391- Congratulations!

So… Long story made slightly shorter….

We stayed up really really late talking about everything under the sun, including genetic manipulation, 2012, and sleepwalking. I bowed out of the conversation at 1:30, fully aware that we need to be on the bus by 7:15, but Eva and Laura kept talking till two. That conversation was probably the high point of Friday. Then at six we totally disregarded our alarm clocks and only woke up at 6:41 when Mr. Cain knocked on our door and told us that we were the last teams up and he wasn’t sure how much longer there was going to be food in the breakfast room.

So wee actually arrived at the desired time, and sat around being nervous and eating oranges and bagels until the first round. Our team played ****-***-***’s team A, and we were crushed. They won by 94 points. Of course, this was understandable, since they are the very serious, competitive, tense team who probably didn’t have any fun whatsoever even though they won. Not like us.
Our second game was more fortuitous, because we won and also we had more fun. Our third game was okay, and our fourth game was unpleasant. We lost both.
Then we had our fifth round, which was scary because we had placed tenth out of sixteen teams, and we were playing number seven, who had beat us squarely the last time we’d played. Plus it was single elimination, so if we lost this, we were out. But once we actually got there we relaxed. It was a win-win situation; if we won, then we WON, and if we lost, then we got to go see our A team play, which had to be amusing.
And we won. It was amazing. It was totally exhilarating. Even though we lost round six, we didn’t really care. Team A lost too, so we went out and got smoothies and walked around trying to get lost and failing. Then we returned to watch the semifinals and finals and the awards ceremony. But by then the lack of sleep was taking its toll and Eva, Alex, and I were all falling asleep. The awards ceremony meant nothing to team B, but team A won the sportsmanship award.
Afterwards we got on the bus and went to Borders and I got The Eyre Affair. And we drove for a while and I fell asleep, and we got ice cream and I ate it and then fell asleep, and we stopped at a rest area where there was snow and there was in ice fight, and we got back in the bus and I fell asleep for the longest time yet, and then we got back to the school and everyone left immediately, except for Eva, Tyler, and Elijah, who were going to ride to the bus garage and walk the rest of the way home or something, and me, who was waiting for her ride. I could have ridden to the bus garage and walked home from there, but by then the point was moot, because my ride was coming. So we played a game of soccer with a water bottle and then my ride came and I went home and went to sleep. And woke up this morning at ten.

I know it’s not a rich people school because you aren’t allowed to bring your own horse. *would like people to know she is extremely jealous of people who own horses. EXTREMELY*

  415. purplefinch says:

414-Eek, that’s gigantic. Sounds kind of fun, though.

So… purplefinch has a problem. She has injured herself while reading. She didn’t think this was possible to do, but it happened last Monday. She was being stupid, and sitting on the back of the couch, dangling her feet over the warm heater (Her house always seems to be cold). On wall above said heater, there was a large print/painting thing with a wood/glass frame thing. Somehow, when moving to get off the back of the couch (where she is not supposed to sit, and where she often tells her siblings not to stand, the hypocrite), she manages to knock the aforementioned print/painting art framed thingy off its hook thing, onto her right foot, and then down, on top of the heater. Her foot hurts. Her mother goes off to fix the heater, which has fallen off the wall, and tells purplefinch to go ice her foot (purplefinch found this amusing, afterwards). For most of the next week, purplefinch is really smart, and dances on her foot, besides the fact that it was kinda black and blue, and a tad swollen, along with three small scrape-things. She ices her foot, usually with those lunch box cooler packs, and it seems to slowly get better. The swelling goes down, and it doesn’t hurt that much (though pointe isn’t much fun). Still, it’s not completely better yet, and its been a week, and she was just reading the fine print on one of the ice packs: “avoid prolonged direct contact with skin”. Therefore, she is now convinced that she will die shortly from mysterious chemicals that have seeped into her skin from the “freez pack”.

No, seriously, will anything bad happen because of the ice pack?

Will it be worth it, if they have to cut my foot off, that I can say that I lost my foot because I was reading? (Yes. Though I doubt my foot will be amputated any time soon)

414~ Wow, that is a lot. I’d crash and burn with the make-up, pathetic, aren’t I?

416~ Wrap it in a dishcloth or a piece of clothing and I can’t see how it coud hurt you. Of course, I know next to nothing about “freez packs” so if they do have to amputate, I certainly didn’t give you that advise….
