152&everyone who thinks disney is the greatest thing ever-
Disney’s goal is just to get people to
buy stuff and their shows are just ads
for the products they sell and for
publicity for the music of the artists
they contract with. Its all for selling
    stuff! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

Oh by the way, don’t think I have
    anything against Walt Disney himself,
I think he is an inspiring person, but I
think the Disney company has wandered
too far from Disney’s original goals to
    entertain. These days the Disney
company’s goal is just to make money
    and sell stuff! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

Wasn’t the previous topic specifically non-disney princesses? Kind of funny now that the blog has been disney-fied. Anywho, I suggest that the new topic be…hmmm…Aha! How about equinoxes/solstices/days halfway between an equinox and a solstice?

At one point when were were crowding around the microphone for another take, she beamed and said, “I’m so glad I was born into this family!”

Okay, I’m continuing the topic that I suggested above… Equinoxes, solstices and the days exactly in between an eqinox and a solstice (cross-quarter days) were all holidays at one point. Some still are. For example, Christmas is connected to the winter solstice, and Easter is connected to the spring equinox.

Groundhog’s Handy Chart Of Obsolete Holidays:
Spring equinox: Ostara, also known as Easter.
Spring/Summer cross-quarter: Beltane, also known as May Day or the night before as Walpurgis Night.
Summer solstice: Midsummer (I couldn’t find any equivalents for this one)
    Summer/Autumn cross-quarter: Lughnasadh, also known as Lammas. (Here’s a llama, there’s a llama…)
Autumnal equinox: Mabon (couldn’t find any equivalents for this one either)
Autumn/Winter cross-quarter: Samhain, also known as Halloween, All Saints Day, and All Souls Day.
Winter solstice: Yule, also known as Christmas.
Winter/Spring cross-quarter: Imbolc, also known as St. Brigids Day, Candlemas and Groundhog Day.

I don’t know a lot about philosophy though……… Hey! I did learn a tad about the Enlightenment in World History! My teacher was lazy and hardly ever lectured, but he did sometimes, and one of those lectures was on why it’s impossible for a dictatorship to be enlightened. IT was very interesting. In fact, several dictators tried it (though not all the way) and one tried to go all out with it. (the one that was totally ‘enlightened’ failed miserably)

I loved Candide. It was hilarious (and brutely cynical). Fantastic ending too.

Lets see:Plato. Well, I like his ideas although some of them are a little too metaphysical. I like the philosopher king political stuff, though its ridiculously optimistic. And I absolutely adore his writing. Particularly the Apology.

As for Rousseau. Well, who wouldn’t like a philosopher whose arguments include school (as an institution) corrupting the mind. Noble savage all the way.

The Empiricists are a pinch annoying but some of their stuff is interesting nonetheless. And as for Locke and his Tabula Rasa. No comment.

Once upon a time, a foolish child named Alice had a necklace. It was a large plastic heart, with numerous brightly-colored small glass hearts swimming around in a fluid inside it. Alice was only about five at the time, and she had two friends who were around her age. Now it so happened that at the radio station, they had just built a nice concrete ramp up to the door. The ramp had a handrail, which was built into a concrete wall, so that it looked like this:
    ___________
    |
    ||||||||||||||||||||||
    ||||||||||||||||||||||,

With the top stripe being the handrail, the stripe below being the wall, and the bold strip being the Very Hard Concrete Walkway. Alice and her friends were playing around on the Concrete Wall and accompanying Handrail, and Alice the utterly moronic idea to stand on the Concrete Wall and jump over the handrail to safely land on her feet on the Very Hard Concrete Walkway.
She landed on it, all right. But on her forehead, not her feet. And the necklace (remember the necklace?) somehow got sandwiched between her forehead and the Very Hard Concrete Walkway, and being only plastic, promptly smashed. Alice vaguely remembers seeing a great deal of blood and little glass hearts (although surely it can’t be as much blood as she remembers), before she was rushed off to the Hospital and got stitches, a Tetanus shot, and an extremely large bandage on her head that had to be changed every day with a great deal of pain.

She never got one of the little glass hearts.

I was climbing up it in an utterly moronic way I let go of the rope, I fell down RIGHT ON TOP OF MY ANKLE, and started limping to the swings. My uncle, who was visiting, asked me if I wanted to play Frisbee. Of course, I said no, limped over to our driveway (50 feet away), picked up a golf club, and used that as a makeshift crutch, limped another 10 feet, and told my mom. She was very calm, but my aunt panicked and rushed me to the emergency room. (For a sprained ankle.)

    64- I’ve never fainted. What’s it like?

62- Ow. That reminds me of something, though…

Once upon a different time, a good many years later but still a long time ago, the heroine of our previous story, having recovered from her Experience and knowing never to jump onto concrete if she could help it, went to a playground with some different friends of hers. She was on a tire swing, being pushed by one of those friends, when a large dog trotted up. Since both girls were rather frightened of the large dog, the girl pushing Alice pushed much harder and faster then she had been, and the rope that had suspended the tire swing from the rafters of that shelter snapped, sending Alice plummeting to the concrete (concrete again) along with the tire. She probably cried, but she was alright, despite a bandage on her nose, later a scab, and a slightly failed Presentation later that day, which had absolutely nothing to do with the fall.
Her nose remains intact, and she has no trace of a scar.

    *keeps thinking of new injuries*

    Let’s see….

Three years after Alice’s first Wound, and some time before her second, her father for some reason thought it fit to give her a Sharp Pocket Knife for her eighth birthday. First he pulled a band-aid out of his pocket, and then, when she stared blankly at it and asked “Why are you giving me a band-aid?” he fetched out a very beautiful pocket knife with Wood Inlay, and showed her how to open and close it, something she couldn’t do by herself for a long time, as the Catch that kept it from Snapping Down on her hand required more strength than her eight-year-old fingers held.
She cut herself very deeply with that pocket knife a while later, while trying to Whittle something out of a piece of wood. She moved the knife the Wrong Way and it sliced into her thumb. It was curiously not painful, so she went and got the band-aid her father had given her and attempted to wrap it around her Injury with only one hand. Later her mother put a different one on, as the previous band-aid was rather skewed.

    She still has the scar.
    And the knife.

(it was the first time my dad played baseball catch with me, oops)
-getting only half-stung by a bee
-getting hit in the face with a baseball again
(it was probably a little dark to be playing baseball catch)
-running into a tree (I was going out for a pass and looking

Hm. I had quite a big injury when we had just moved to Pittsburgh not too long before. It involves a door. I wrote something actually well-written for English class, but I’ll just write this from the top of my head.

My parents were going to take Pan and me on a woods walk, I believe (I don’t remember much – most of this story is from what people have told me). As we were getting ready to put our coats on, dad went outside. I think. He closed the door (almost). I had something to tell him, or wanted to go outside, or I was just ready to go. Anyway, I went to open the door. My small fingers were not easy to see in the dark and in only a small crack of the door. My father, seeing that the door was not fully closed, finished closing the door. It hurt. But my fingers were still partly blocking the thorough closing of the door. So my dad closed the door again, hard this time.
I was crying and screaming and apparently it hurt like nothing else because I was crying and screaming so loud that you could hear it all the way at the Muse Academy. My hand (the right sided one, if anyone wanted to know) was bleeding like crazy. Someone got me a cup filled with ice. By the time Clara/Pan got down, (she was about 5) the cup was filled with blood.
So we went to the hospital, and I got an x-ray done. The only thing I remember really from this whole injury experience was something that may not even have happened – I remember putting my hand on a very high table and there being a big white flash.
We call this the Bigga-Bigga-Band-Aid story because that’s what I called the bandage covering my whole hand.

One day in 5th grade I was climbing a tree, and the branch I was on broke. I fell 10 feet onto my back and the branch fell on top of me, and nothing happened. Later that day I was swinging on my neighbor’s swingset, and we were jumping off the swings. I was about to, but I didn’t make it. I tried to wait for it to go up again, but I fell off at the lowest point, which was about 1 foot off the ground, and broke my arm. I had to have a really large and uncomfortable splint from the ER for a long time because we couldn’t find anywhere with an open appointment to put a cast on it. The ER doesen’t do real casts, only splints.

Well, when I was 7, my friend Elias went on vacation, leaving my family and me to use his inground pool as we wish. He has this reeeeeeeeeally long and steep driveway, and a ton of little scooters, bikes, bigwheels, etc. So, one time after we had gone swimming, I decided to leap onto one of the scooters (in my bathing suit, no shoes, still soaking wet), and go careening down the driveway singing the Mission Impossible theme. I cracked one of my ribs. Ouch. I don’t reccomend it.

I have had a lot of bad injuries. A funny, but surprisingly not painful injury was when I was biking down a hill, my brakes broke, I couldn’t stop, I reached the end of the hill, where you had to go either left or right, and I was going FORWARD at an incredible speed, so I hit a wooden mailbox and flipped over. It actually really didn’t hurt (good thing I had a helmet!) My knees are now purple because of all the scars, bruises, and gashes have got there. My friend was playing football once, and his arm broke, and the bone went through his arm, and one of his arteries or veins (I forgot which) popped. He was outta school for 3 weeks!

My worst injury was in 7th grade when I fell off of my bike and broke my wrist. (Luckily, I’m ambidextrous.) My strangest injury was this year when I was in Printmaking class and was making a PVC cut self-portrait. The knife I was using slipped and sank into my left index finger. It was pretty deep, and left a scar. Which means that one of my fingerprints got altered, because the cut was so deep that the scar erased some of the lines.

Wow, this thread sounds very painful. I have read alot of these stories….*shiver*. I have never hurt myself that badly really, just minor injuries like twisting my ankle, and pullin muscles in dance, etc. I had a really bad shin splint recently from dance….uh….the stupidest injury (it might be called that) was when my parents and I went to Mexico last summer. I had shorts on over my swimming suit, and we took a golf cart across the island we were on to a place to snorkel. Well I put my sunscreen on the way there (with my shorts still on) and then took them off to go snorkeling. Well, since you are floating a lot of the time, by behind with no sunscreen (since I did it with shorts on) got the worst sunburn I have ever had. The next day, I layed in the hotel room for like, the whole day, until we had to go eat, and it hurt greatly to sit down for at least a week and a half. I have never broken anything either. I passed out recently, on a field trip in front of half of my huge team and hit my head. But that is it. All of your stories sound very painful! Is anyone else having issues with the window you type your message in shrinking and then going away completely? Just wondering…

They should be sliced very thinly, then made into sandwiches with best quality thin sliced white bread, which is difficult to obtain nowadays. It should be lightly buttered, with best butter, of course. The crusts should be removed, and the sandwiches cut into neat little squares, about an inch and a half across. However, I suppose that, if it was your own wedding, you would be pretty excited about it.

Was the wedding as awful as you feared? (Your “free at last” comment makes me think it was pretty bad.) But maybe there were at least some moments of enjoyment??

My dad took me, because he also didn’t really want to go) We went to the reception after that. Everybody made speeches and jokes, we had dinner, and dessert, but I went home when everyone started dancing because they was acting like they were drunk. So yeah, it was o.k. but I was in pain and agony. So boring to just sit there. Luckily, the next day, I got to go to a little kids 1ST BIRTHDAY *Sarcasm* YEAH! I don’t really understand where cute comes from. I understand that baby animals were designed with wide eyes and all making them “cute” and that’s what makes us (the adult animals) take care of them, but what part of our brain triggers that “Awww..?”
