Rainbows are awesome, except that you need rain for them to come out most of the time.

Once I was playing a soccer game, and it had been raining, but it was starting to stop. The score had been 0-0, and then the other team scored just as a rainbow was coming out. A few minutes later, one of the coaches on their team noticed that there was really two rainbows, one off to the side of the first a little. He yelled, “Two rainbows for two goals!”, meaning to inspire his team to score again. Well, he was right. There were two goals – except the second was for our team, and we ended up winning the game. :)

Soccer is good. I am a soccer NUT. I was captain of my intramurel team, and we won third place this year. last year we won second in the league. I play for a team that plays against my school team, and I originally wasn’t supposed to be on that team and all my school people were all “How dare you betray us et cetera!!!!!!!” But then we beat them in a tournament and I’m all “Because we’re better than you et cetera!!!!!!” It’s pretty awesome. And I’m known as Bigfoot in my school for my infamous ‘kick the ball across the entire field’ dropkick back in ’06.

  36. Cat's Meow says:

My team lost our soccer game today 3-1. :( It’s our first lost all season, and it comes from a team that we beat earlier in the year. But our highest-scoring forward (also the coach’s daughter) was playing in that game, and since then she broke her ankle. (I think I posted that story on the May-hem thread.)
I have another game at 2 later today, against the last place team. We beat them last weekend, and if we lose today I will scream.

    35 – a) There’s the Suggestion Box thread for that. :)
    b) Hmmm…well, I haven’t exactly been very many places. :( I’ve visited my grandparents in Florida and New York a few times, but nothing really spectacular. I also went to the Bahamas when I was 6 months old, but, for obvious reasons, I don’t exactly remember that. :(
    c) Um…soccer? :P And MuseBlog. ;)
    d) Probably better for the hot topics thread, just because a lot of people have really strong opinions about politics.
    e) I think I’d like to be a teacher. My dad’s a teacher, and I’ve had good experiences with teachers and school, so that probably factors into that. Plus, if/when I have kids I would be on pretty much the same schedule as them for weekends and summer, so I’d get to spend a lot of time with my family.
    f) I think we’ve got quite a few good topics floating around right now. Rainbows, soccer, cool places, hobbies, ambitions…lots and lots of good topics! :D

Okay, I’m just going to keep talking about soccer, because it’s kind of sort of the only thing on my mind right now.
First of all, remember the game I said that if we lost, I’d scream? Well, we lost. We had a horrible, horrible first half, and while we did well in the second half, we had a 5 minute span about halfway through where we just fell flat and they scored a goal.
    Final Score: 1-0
This stinks…we hasn’t lost a game all season, and then our best forward and our leading scorer – who, judging by the past few games, is the ONLY one who can score – broke her ankle, so she’s going to be out for the rest of the season, AND for the entire summer. What’s more, by the fall she’s going to be gone to another team for good, and two of our other best players are going to be gone as well.
Quite frankly, our team is going to stink…
Our coach doesn’t even care whether we have a good team or not. He is literally going to keep everyone who is currently on the team on the team for next season, and if there are other people at tryouts who are better then them – too bad. The current players will still get in, because our team has a good “community”.
Well, I don’t know about them, and communities are nice and all, but I play soccer to have fun. Losing is not fun, especially like today when we lose two in a row to teams we’ve beaten before in this season. Losing is not fun at all, and if we lose that many of our good players, we are going to be losing quite a bit more.

Soccer. Don’t mention soccer to me. I used to be so good at it… Maybe it’s just the fact that we’ve been playing indoors. Maybe it’s that my shoes don’t have treads anymore. Maybe it’s that everyone in my class is half again my size. Or maybe the PE environment sucks (OK, no maybe about it). Or maybe I just plain stink at it.

43 – The funny thing is, I love my team. I’ve made great friends on it, and I actually made the choice to stay with them instead of going to a higher level team this year. (Which, actually, ended up collapsing. The point is that I could have gone.) But it’s just that I have no idea how things are going to go after this year. A lot of the best people on our team are leaving to other places, and I’m stuck in the middle. I’m right on the edge of select and premier, and I’m choosing to stay while a lot of others are choosing to cross. I guess I’m bringing this all upon myself, but that doesn’t make it any easier to bear.

I had one today. I was FREEZING! my legs were red and I couldn’t bend them, and my hands hurt like crazy because I was mid- field for one part, than goalie for the rest. We won. We called that team the “Horn Team” because every year, every time they score a goal, somebody blows this load horn, I don’t know who.

  51. The Guy Your Parents Warned You About says:

42- Ow, that hurts. My team was doing awesome last season, but we lost our last game. We then found out that, if we had won it, we would have gotten the #1 seed for the playoffs instead of #3. Well, we put that behind us and promptly got creamed by the #7 seed. We later found out that they had cheated, but by the time we got our complaint in, the next game had been played and they had been eliminated. To make it worse, had we beaten them, we would have played our archrivals. Let’s just say, we were pretty mad after all this.
Oh and there’s more: during a mid-season tournament, we needed a win or a tie to advance out of the group stage. Well, we lost that freezing-cold game by one.
And in another tournament after the season was over, two things happened worth mentioning. First, we were tied against a team we should have been beating with minutes left. Then their goalie launched a huge punt and our midfielder went to snag the ball out of the air and missed. The ball bounced over him, right to a waiting attacker, who scored on us. Then, in a game we were already losing, (but we could tie it if we put one more in the net) our goalie came out and scooped up the ball. Then an attacker rams him with all his might, almost knocking him unconscious. That’s supposed to be a red, but he got off with yellow. Also, the time it took to get our goalie back on his feet and onto the sidelines was long enough for time to expire.
*Sigh* Oh well, it’s in the past.

  54. Cat's Meow says:

52 – Oh, that stinks. Don’t you just hate bad referees? Our team was playing another team from our club – they were premier, we were select – in a tournament a while ago and we got a ref that was just horrible. They didn’t particularly like us, because of an amazing late-game comeback we had pulled on them the last time we had played them, in a scrimmage, and they were an aggressive team anyways. Needless to say, the ref wouldn’t call anything at all, so they just kept pushing harder and harder. It was pretty bad. At one point I was near the sideline going for the ball and this girl came up and, somehow, I ended up on the ground 5 feet out of bounds. One of my legs was slightly longer then the other for weeks after that. :(

However, we got the last laugh. Literally the next practice after that game one of their players joined our team, because she didn’t like the coaching practices of their team’s coach. I mean, he made his players call him “Sir”! :? A few weeks later, another of their players joined their team. Currently they have 12 players left from their original 17, and the team is disbanding after this year.

    Karma?

63 – Yeah, exactly! When I’m at school sometimes people say things like “Eww, soccer is just kicking a ball around. What’s so hard about that?” And, yeah, you do kick a ball around, but you have to have just the perfect touch on the ball, and with different surfaces of your foot, and it’s such a mental game, too. You need to find the space on the field and time things perfectly with exactly the right amount of power. It’s a ton more complicated then just kicking a ball around on a field!

We saw the high school dance performance today. The theme was science. Each of the dances (choreographed by seniors, performed in by underclassmen) centered on a different theme. The first had an explosive energetic mood. The background had red hues. It was nuclear fission. Then there was one dance, which I liked a lot, about Newton’s laws of motion. Basically, the idea was that the dancers complied with the laws completely. To have their movement altered, an outside force had to interfere. It was an interesting idea. And it was pretty well executed. So I had a good time…

My solo went decently. I hated the way it was lit, becuase, hoping to give it a mysterious ambience, I guess, the light designer had left the stage practicaly pitch black. I thought there was a thread for Movies? Why isn’t all this on there?

Oh well. I like movies sometimes. If they’re good, and a lot of them aren’t. Books are unerringly better than their movie counterparts. Except in a few rare cases when the movie is almost as good as the book. Like the old version of Pride and Prejudice, I love that movie!! I love the book, too.

Movies that aren’t based on a book are only too often weak, without a very good plot. *sigh* Oh well.
Disney movies are okay, but I don’t really usually pay attention to who made the movie, if I like it, that’s great. If I hated it, too bad, I won’t watch it again.

However, when there is a good boo, and it is mangled into a movie, it isn’t that great. I might venture to say that the Princess Diaries series wasn’t that god to start with….it’s the good books that bother me when they’re mutilated.
For example, the most recent movie adaptation of Pride and Prejudice is hideous. Kira Knightly is a beautiful woman. Unfortunately, she is a beautiful woman, and not much else. I’m not really impressed by her acting. Nor was I impressed at the way the story was changed in some important ways–and not for the better. It was made cutesy and lost the real reason for the story. Ok, worst movie adaptation of a book ever? Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. Lena does NAWT like Kostos, her grandmother does. Any other sucky book/movies?

252- What? I thought the movie did a great service to the book. It got the plot and characters right, which is more than you can say for most modern movies based on books.

254-THEY CUT SO MUCH!!!!!! Most Importantly, though, hey pace of TKAM is meant to be slow, and like a Southern Town in the 1900s. There were scenes and characters that didn’t matter for the plot. The movie action-packed it, and speeded it up. I say they BUTCHERED it!

*sigh* Flatulus, you must remember that Bookworm is, indeed, a bookworm. He WANTS the movie to be exactly like the book (if the book was good to begin with).

255- Really????? I thought Narnia was great! HP, maybe not… (chello, winky, stupid directors?????) and LOTR was OK… not teh best, but OK…

Lemme tell you all something. They had BETTER make an AWESOME movie adaptation to Twilight. Otherwise, I might conSPLODE. I’ll donut the screen when it’s over if I hate it.
