Sumer Is Icumen In, Part 1

If the onset of summer makes you feel giddy or even a little crazy, the June Random Thread offers you a chance to join along in this fine old Middle English song:

Svmer is icumen in,
Lhude sing cuccu!
Groweþ sed and bloweþ med
And springþ þe wde nu,
Sing cuccu!

Cuccu, cuccu, wel singes þu, cuccu;
Ne swik þu nauer nu.
Sing cuccu nu. Sing cuccu.
Sing cuccu. Sing cuccu nu!

In modern English: “Summer has come in / Loudly sing, Cuckoo! / The seed grows and the meadow blooms / And the wood springs anew, / Sing, Cuckoo!

“Cuckoo, cuckoo, well you sing, cuckoo; / Don’t you ever stop now, / Sing cuckoo now. / Sing, Cuckoo. / Sing Cuckoo. Sing cuckoo now!”

    I love the picture!

We have a gregorian chant that looks kind of like that picture, and it almost has something like the Kokopellis! (Well, not really, but a little bit.) Apparently, when the scribes were spending hours and hours copying out the chants, they got a little bored. So, they made tiny little paintings in between the notes — they’re hardly noticeable unless you’re looking for them.

Perhaps I’ll scan it. *ponders how the paper will fit in the scanner*

Argh. I was playing with my ring, because I always fiddle with my rings when I wear them, and I was suddenly struck by the silver-and-amber against my dark blue shirt, and it reminded me of the cover of Juniper, by Monica Furlong (which everyone should read, by the way), and Juniper’s cloak, which had a yellow clasp I think, but whatever. I decided in that instant that I needed a cloak like that, so I got my red cape I wore for Halloween. It’s not as long or full as I would like, but one can’t have everything, so I started to darn the little hole in it, and of course I then realized the price of letting it drift around in various garages and basements frequented by cats of ill repute. And ’cause it’s wool it has to be hand washed and hung to dry, a rather long process. So now I have to wait.

For some reason EQAO is counting as part of our mark and we still have to have a math exam. do you get the logic in that? I sure don’t. well I do. it just anoys me. My dad bought the coolest jasmine tea. if you like cool things and are just skiming the posts read this: okay so the tea looks like a clump of dried up leaves (agggg…. text box is gone!) and then when you pore, sory I mean pour, water on them they start to expand and after a couple of minutes you find you have tis amazingly cool flowery thing in your cup. it’s tasty too. 52- Geocaching and Letterboxing are gallavanting across the wilderness looking for boxes. With geocaching, you have GPS coordinates and trade little trinkets in and out of the boxes. With letterboxing, you have clues that lead you to the box and your own stamp which you stamp in the box to show you were there. Here’s the website for Letterboxing North America:
www. letterboxing. org (I tried to delinkify it, I don’t know if it worked.)

Geohashing was invented by that guy over at xkcd. Then there’s the honor roll dance for two hours (PLEASE PLAY GOOD MUSIC, OH PLEASE!) and then we are free. Ugh. Not looking forward to that.

And then we’re reading Romeo and Juliet in English. GOD, it’s so hard to take Romeo seriously! He’s so fickle. Not to mention melodramatic. But seriously, Shakespeare seems to have quite a few rather inconstant characters. Take whats-his-name from Two Gentlemen

I have officially decided that death isn’t actually sad. This happened while I was reading Romeo and Juliet and listening to “The Death of General Wolfe” at the same time. The sad bit about death isn’t specific to death. Death isn’t sad, the sad bit is never ever seeing or hearing from a person again. Therefore, if I have a great friend who moves away to Mongolia and loses my address, phone number and email, then it’s as sad as death although both of us live to a ripe old age. It’s very similar to finishing a book, o at least how I feel after finishing a book. Therefore, finishing a book is like having friends (or at least acquaintances) die.

So a lot has happened since I last posted – heres a brief synopsis of some of the ones that come to the top of my mind

~ Nuns are looking to buy our house and turn it into a convent
~ I have turned into a groupie (na not really, just an over obsessed fan) for this band called Fun Time? – its a friends friends band and they’re so freaking cool!!! ahhhh
~ I have switched to Firefox so the shrinking comment box is gone and there is automatic spell check on this so all my posts should be neatly capitalized and correctly spelled. Well mostly. No certain promises there.
~ I have gotten a lead in Oliver – (idk if i told you this before I left)
~ Our stage challenge team got 4th place in the city of -snip-
~ I have done what I vowed never to do and I have now joined a soccer team – and I’m goalie
~ I got bangs (fringe for all you non-American MB-ers
~ I have perfected the art of “borrowing” the lollies I’m supposedly drawing in art class and eating them in class
~ I got my maths teacher in a HEAP of trouble by telling my mum how she told me to shut up and she almost got fired…….
~ I have successfully scared my friends boyfriend by threatening to bash him and now he refuses to go near me
~ I have become addicted to my iHome
~ I have figured about a million kick ass excuses for in class and at home that work
~ I have fallen down about 10 flights of stairs because I was laughing too hard without getting hurt
~ I got my dad to order me a pair of glasses that I plan on wearing to class so I look smarter

so thats only part of the list but i have to go write an essay on “My Journey Through a Food Web” as it was due yesterday and I need to turn it in.

Hello everybody. I just wanted to let you know I am alive. I survived it. It being possibly the biggest storm I have ever seen 8O 8O 8O

There was a GIGANTIC THUNDERSTORM here. It probably lasted about thirty minutes, or something like that. But_it_was_SCARY.

The rain was heavy. And the wind 8O It was terrible! Violent! It swirled around in great gusts, blowing the pouring rain in circles, pushing air under the doors and windows… And snapping trees. We lost a major tree limb, essentially the top of a very tall tree, and it blew thirty feet or more from the back yard to the front. In fact, it landed right next to a window, barely missing it. It nearly clipped our power line, but missed that. It almost crushed a small tree I planted, but instead landed exactly in between it and the window 8O

Another limb fell in the road, and I dragged it in. Many smaller pieces came down as well. Our power went off, but the break in the line came a ways down the line, as the whole neighborhood was out of power. A tree in another yard had one whole side snapped off, and a different power line sent sparks flying when a limb hit it.

The power’s back on now. It was off for four hours.

Just wanted to let you know. Got to go now! *pies*

Of course, teacher workdays are nothing like normal school days. The teacher are actually happy then. Those are the days of teachers running up and down the halls shouting “Hallelujah!”, having teacher lunches and parties, watching movies, and, or course, cleaning up for my Mom. Of course, the teacher’s days are also filled up with getting grades together and going to pointless meetings set up by our most loved super intendant, of whom I won’t elaborate on because he is my parents employer and it is against my best interests to talk of lovelyness.

So much is going on, and it’s all so exciting. My life isn’t static anymore! I want to broaden my horizons, to take risks, to do things! It’s a truly amazing feeling. These last few days I have been feeling very detached towards MuseBlog. So many of my old friends have gone or almost gone, and so many new people have come, and I have yet to really connect with them at all, I feel somehow like I’m no longer really a part of the whole, and I don’t really think I need MuseBlog anymore. I think I can understand where some people are coming from when they decide to leave.
Not that I’m going to leave, of course. The MuseBloggers are still far better friends than many of my school friends, and your company makes me happy. It’s just a wonderfully freeing feeling to know that I live without a computer for a few days.

The other day I participated in E’s movie for her video production class. I was Snake Bloodshed, the murderer, and I got to wear a trenchcoat and sunglasses and stab Opal with a large cardboard knife, resulting a great deal of ketchup getting on my jeans. It was lots of fun, and we walked home in the half-dark covered in ketchup with a huge knife saying “death to the meek”* on one side and “revenge” on the other.

*NOT a sentiment I agree with.

211 – Yeah, I’ve been feeling rather MuseBlog-detached lately too. Probably because there aren’t any RRRs/other threads that I’m really into lately. :|

Anyways, my school had our Battle of Gettysburg reenactment yesterday, which I don’t think I actually ever mentioned on MuseBlog. Basically, there are two history teachers for the entire school. One of them (K) teaches mostly 5th and 6th graders, with only a few 7th graders mixed in, and the other (J) teaches 7th and 8th graders. We’re studying the Civil War right now, so they decided to declare K’s students the Union, J’s students the Condeferates, and have a Battle of Gettysburg.

So, it ended up being really fun. I was a Confederate, being a 7th grader, and my 5th grade brother was fighting for the Union, so we were needling each other during the days leading up to the battle about who was going to win.

At about 1:00 we got our bags of ammo (also known as “water balloons”), and then the Confederates were supposed to go to the bottom of the big hill in the back of our school and the Union soldiers were supposed to go to the top, up by the school. On the signal, we were all supposed to start marching in lines at each other and stuff. That’s not exactly how it went, though. :P

See, the Confederates had much better generals then the Union did here, and so the one for my regiment (Each regiment was a class: we were the Tennesee 10th Artillery) decided to have us start off to the side of the school, run up the stairs that are alongside of the hill, and flank the Union from the right while the rest of the army marched up the front.

It worked BEAUTIFULLY. :D Companies B and C from my regiment (I was in C) did a hit and run attack on the right side of their army, then retreated, and then our general sent the rest of our regiment up that same side.

The Union didn’t really have a strategy to start with, beyond “See what they do and try to reeact”, and, as it turned out, one of their generals betrayed them and turned all of their plans over to our generals. Which was rather ironic. But, anyways, as soon as we flanked them they started disintigrating into a mass, so we could just pick them off with water balloons from the front and from the side.

We used their own water balloons too, since we captured a huge pile of their water balloons that they had been planning on giving to their artillery.

We fought for a while, and then we finally remembered that we were supposed to get the Union flag, if we wanted to win, and everyone started yelling “Get the flag! Get the flag!”. And then one 8th grade boy from my class hit the flag-holder in the chest with a water balloon and took the flag from him.

He was running back down the hill to give the flag to J, so we would win, and he got hit in the back with a water balloon. So he was “dead”. But then C picked it up, and we all ran down the hill with him, and then we won. It was all over in 10 minutes.

It was pretty awesome. J said that Tennesee 10th Artillery Companies B and C would get medals of honor for our amazing bravery and amazing flanking skillz, so I hope he follows through with that. :D

So I went to a REM concert with guests Modest Mouse and the National, but I was actually just going to see Modest Mouse, since I am basically in love with them. It. was. effing. AMAZING.

So my uncle works for this liquor company that owns part of a box at the United Center in Chicago (is that okay to say, since it’s rather far from my house and in a +million people city and I’m not there anymore? probably), so he asked for tickets and we got 6 free ones, which is good because they were like 65 dollars otherwise. But we got them so I got to bring along Lee, JB, D, and A, plus my mother who drove us and stuffins. And we got to the United Center, which is a hockey rink/basketball court (they melt the ice down) and doubles as a concert hall too. It’s huuuuge. We were in a high executive box pretty far from the stage, unfortunately, but we brought binoculars so we could still see them close-up XD
We actually missed The National even though we go there at like 7:30 and it started at 7, so they must have been really short. We wandered a bit and I bought a t-shirt and later a tote bag with the ballon/anchor logo from We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank and another cd, This Is A Long Drive For Someone With Nothing To Think About. JB Got The Moon and Antarctica, so I have to steal that from her as soon as possible.
And then we found this dessert cart with cakes and moose and all sorts of stuff on it, so we all got something different then signed my uncles name for it :D When we went back into the box I realized that MM had gotten on stage and was playing Invisible, so I screamed and started singing and dancing and so did Lee. The others danced and yelled and sang along with what they knew, but it’s me and her that are the bigbigbig fans. And they played Satin in a Coffin, which made my night.
These guys are amazing. All of you need to go get a cd of theirs, Isaac’s lyrics are like an epiphany that punches you in the face.

Also I was going to post this on the music thread where maybe it belongs, but it’s not linked to and I was about 5 pages into the search bar when I gave up and came here instead. It’s dying anyway :(

In other news I should really be studying for finals right now. But I don’t care. Which is really, really bad. Usually I go through this panic stage right before finals where I study a ton and get messed up but end up knowing everything pretty well int he end for being severely emotionally unstable, then go into a kind of apathetic stage right before I take the tests. But right now I seem to just be in the the apathetic bit, which is not good at all, because I’ve barly studied for anything. Even though I know its bad, I’m still on here and stuff instead. It’s kind of like, why bother anymore, I ill myself all the time for good grades and school and plainly it sucks. I don’t know what I want to do with my life or where I want to go to college so I kill myself on all these academics and sports and spend no time on myself and I’m really sick of it right now. I’m killing myself in high school to go to a good college even though I have no idea where/what, then I’ll kill myself through that being a good student and stuff, then I’ll be out of school and have to get a job and I won’t have done anything for me. Even summer’s not going to give me a break for a long time yet, besides the fact that we only have 2 months of it this year I’m taking Consumer Ed in summer school to get ahead in credits because I’m taking 4 years of all academics, band, and spanish so I can’t fit their other required classes in otherwise.
I feel like the only reason I try anymore is because I’m fricking terrified of failure.
This sucks. Music is the only thing keeping me sane right now.

I did get a bit of studying done. But I stared into space more. And hiked through the soggy woods (tornado warning wooo) to take another picture of the dead mushroom. Did I tell you all that story? I don’t think so. Odd. I’ve been getting more and more detached from MB. : / …

We’ll probably get along, considering that she’s on a team with 3 other boys, and you have to be pretty crazy/tough to attempt that. She likes surfing and reading, too, and I can’t imagine someone who likes surfing and reading and who did a science project on why people don’t wear life jackets being an awful roommate.

I can’t wait, despite the fact that 5 or 6 days with A and T will probably be pretty painful. It’s helped by the fact that C, who I like, is going too, but it will also just be plain fun. I think it’ll be more fun once we actually hit our deadline (June 11th), though, because then we have over a week to just relax. I’ve spent most of the past few days doing nothing but working on this project, and it’s boring me to death by now. 204 – Whoa! And here I always thought that the west had much nicer weather than the midwest-south (seriously, which one is Kentucky? No one here can agree!).

211 – I know what you mean; most of the people who were on here when I joined are long gone. I think that getting older does have something to do with that. The older I get, the more things I have to worry about. When I get that overwhelmed feeling, especially during the school year, I tend to stop checking the blog for awhile, and then when I come back there are so many posts that I just give up for long periods of time. It is worth staying, though; once I sit down and read through those posts, I always find something to remind me why I loved the MB and give me the motivation to post again.

230 – Tallship sailing??? That sounds amazing….sadly I, too, am broke and the closest thing I’ve seen around here to a tallship is a houseboat.

235 – Sweet! I just went to my first real concert here, Nightwish live. :D The new singer is actually really good in person. It was extremely hot and crowded, but people were fanning the band from the front row with Finnish flags and everybody was dancing around, so it was worth the heat. Live performances are so powerful; I definitely want to see more. *concert addiction forming*

240 – Awesome school and dye scheme! I don’t know anything about hair dyes. Is there any way to dye Brunette hair dark colors without having to bleach it first?

All right, so after we moved to Denmark a year ago, I was put into the eighth grade at a somewhat descent school. The teachers liked me, because I was bright and easy to teach, but soon began to detest me when they discovered that I already knew what they wanted to teach us, and I have a rebellious streak.
I did not fall easily into place with the class, getting into a fight with one boy which ended in his expulsion, bickering with the girls when I tired of their trivial talk, and ignoring the complete computer game nerds in our class.
And so it’s been getting worse and worse. I’ve reached the point where I’ve been sleeping directly after school in an attempt to pass the days quickly, reading the same old books again and again, and basically feeling miserable. My feeble attempts to make friends failed.
Until Vicki came. She was bright, wonderful, beautiful, depressed, and still in the dark after her father’s death two years previously. She was perfect. And, I hate to admit, a shining beacon which may indeed have woken me from my slumber. I loved her. Friendless and bored as I was, she offered everything I oh so desperately needed. And seeing that this girl was my life thread, I tried to pull myself out of the waters.
But she did not need, nor indeed want, me. She balked at my attempts to be even commonly friendly, writing a letter to the teacher that she thought I was ‘crossing her bounderies’. Apparently, her bounderies were crossed if someone came within a mile of her desk, which ironically was right next to mine. But I respected her wishes and backed off. Far enough that I could see that the chances of friendship, which had always been small were by now impossible. But how could it be wrong? Why was it that every time she spoke to me it felt as though I were saved, the lonliness beginning to wear off, a chance to escape the darkness. Somedays I was even happy- momentarily. In Egypt, we ate ice cream together for dinner one night. I was happy. And it seemed like she was as well. And then she did it again. I’ve received instructions from the teacher to ‘leave her alone’ and to ‘stay far away from her.’
But that’s not what makes me so hurt. Vicki doesn’t exactly come to school every day, but she is not a sickly childs. In that, she cuts class often. Apparently, when our teacher confronted her, she blamed it on me, saying that she was ‘scared’ to come to school in case she ‘flipped out’ on me.

But why? Why her? Why does she need top be so overly depressed, it’s not only her that has a difficult life. She has indeed lost her father, but she knew him, all I have to know my father by are resentful stories of steroids and suicide, and a distant half brother and half sister, whom I have not seen in nine years, and whose names I barely remember. AND VICKI COMPLAINS! She hasn’t been dragged out of house and home and forced to move to a different country, leaving pets, friends, and family, all of whom you will possibly never see again- TWICE!!!!!!!!!! I went eight years without seeing my great aunt, whom I used to be so close to. Six years without seeing my grandmother, six years watching across an ocean as my two cousins sprouted to eleven cousins, Odin bevares! I may be a resentlful girl, but I can never forgive my mother for doing it to me so she can marry a man (whom I hated and hate to this day) after four months of knowing him. And then who does she come crying to when he turns out to be violent? Apologizing to me, her daughter, and begging for my forgiveness?

So, my fellow musebloggers, convince me to wake up tomorrow, for now I am considering skipping the rest of my classes and giving completely up.

However, someone who is on again, off again, and who blames you for skipping class, cannot be trusted. I know it is painful when you want to be friends, and someone is resisting every step of the way. I would recommend trying to give her some more space, or try talking to her and tell her that you’d like to be her friend. If she says no, then respect that, and she will feel better for it. Although it’s hard, there’s really nothing you can do if someone is determined to avoid you. I know it hurts.

But since it’s summer, you’ll have lots of free time. Don’t hole yourself up in your room; you have to get out and do stuff if you want to meet people. Go for a walk in a park or down your street or join a group of some sort. Many museums offer art classes, and in the ones I’ve taken I’ve been able to meet some very nice people. Perhaps you play a musical instrument that you could teach to small children on your block? Teaching can be rewarding, especially teaching adorable small children ^_^

302- I was visiting my aunt in Michigan, north of detroit (rock city!) when that ‘blackout 2003’ occurred. IT WAS HOT.

Wait… I’ve been eating a lot of choklit, and dogs can’t tolerate chocolate. Can foxes? Or is it ok because it’s choklit and not chocolate?

    *eats choklit anyway*

309- Thanks, Beavo. *laughs* I like sun. It makes my hair lighter. And I haven’t lost my tan that I got in egypt, so I should be okay with sunburns.

I’m very HAPPY right now! It’s summer, and I’m busy working on playwriting! I just had my piano recital, also. As one of my pieces, I played “Four Minutes, Thirty-Three Seconds”. It’s a piece where you sit at a piano for 4 minutes 33 seconds, without playing. You’re supposed to listen to the silence. In my case, I listened to whispering younger siblings! It was a fun recital, though. Back to the plays… I wrote an Eight Page play about The Scopes Trial for school. I then picked a cast from my class, and we rehearsed. After a while, we preformed! I also had to write something retrospective for reflecting back on all 7 years of Elementary School. I wrote a Twenty Page Play! Finally, one of my friends and I are busy writing a farce featuring the Nine Old Muses! When that’s done, I’ll send it in. Does anyone want to see the Scopes Trial Script?

So i’m possibly going to king’s island tomorrow and chilling with USY (because i’m totally jewish whut) and a couple other friends. only problem is parents still aren’t sure about courtney driving. so i still don’t know if i’m going or not, which is bad because i need to tell people what’s going on, since we would be long gone this time tomorrow. only 23 hours to plan at this point…

    Oh, the pain…
Actually the pain hasn’t started yet, really, I’m just forecasting what will grow out of this current slight discomfort. Really, human feet just aren’t made for high heels. But I like this outfit, and I don’t want to try to dig up another professional outfit and waste all this precious MuseBlogging time.
The plus side of heels is that they make me closer to the size of my peers.

Today is a FINALS day. This is good for me because it means I have more time during lunch and break to finish my Trans homework.
Science- I get to watch other people perform their finals (I already did mine) and possibly get extra credit by asking questions.
Acting- I get to evaluate myself and the director. Whee, fun.
Trans- Job interviews! w00t! (Not really.)
    Spanish- Nada.

    316) This year, the gang at our school got all its girls together and they set all of the girls bathrooms on fire at the exact same time one day! It was terrible! Because of that, our school began a rule stating that students can no longer go to the bathroom during class unless they are bleeding to death or something. Also, they only put one roll of toilet paper per stall in the bathrooms for the rest of the year.

    342) Trust me. You don’t want to be over here. I would much rather have winter weather then summer weather. *over 90 degrees*

Ha ha! It was funny though! Because my parents finally decided that they should turn on the air conditioning when they found out the temperature was going to reach about 100 degrees that afternoon. But when they did, dust drifted up and set off our fire alarm. It was hilarious! The firemen came to our house and everything! Of course, a lot of them that came were my parent’s former students and the had a big laugh!

325 and 330~ No, you don’t want to be anywhere NEAR here right now. Not that i don’t want to see you, but today was refreshingly cool–only 80 something degrees in the shade and it actually felt cool to me. IT. IS. TOO. HOT HERE. FOR. HUMAN. HABITATION. PERIOD.
334~ As to getting goosebumps, the other day I got in the car and it was so hot that I actually felt cold….scary.

335~ YOU ARE?!?!?! Hmm, what are you doing there? Any chance of a Kokonvention? *schemes*

345~ Yup, of course I’ll be here, we love you! *hugs* Thanks for sharing the chocolate, too, would you like some of the truffles I got the other day? Here, try one, they’re quite tasty.

    Hi folks! :D

Yesterday we had ANOTHER bad thunderstorm. Hardly anything fell, since the first one knocked everything out already. Almost. A limb from one of our trees fell, but I think it had already broken in the last storm and just hadn’t fallen yet. This second storm was mainly rain, lots of BIG lightning, and HAIL, big hail. We lost power for close to five hours.

Two major storms and two power outages in one week seems a little odd…

TCF-I missed something. Welcome back, anyway! Why you would expect a whole thread is the part that confuses me.

Vixen-Sorry to hear about your friend troubles. If you’re looking for opportunities to be a part of blog activities, you would be most welcome on the Zemtee thread. There you have the very important position of Great Chief of Fire and other Hazards. Your presence on that thread would be much appreciated, and it likely would be fun! :)
