Yay! Thanks, GAPAs!
Who here likes the Beatles? I ♥ them. I’m listening to ‘Because’ right now.
1~ I haven’t heard a whole lot of their stuff, but what I have heard I liked alright.
My musical tastes come and go, for the past two months I’ve been listening to almost constant Simon and Garfunkel, but the last week I’ve been listening to more traditional Irish folk music. And I’ve been thinking all the music that I was singing with my choir (lots of chants). Weird mix, I know.
I like stuff with an electronica beat, don’t ask me why. It just seems so…. happy.
Question: Who DOSN’T like the Beatles?
I just heard Bo Burnham’s introduction to YouTube Live. It was amazing.
1- Pretty much everyone. And if they don’t, we make them listen to it and they like them.
2- I was at Syllabub’s house once and we were listening to them on her iPod; we agreed that they sounded evil. Like they were going to kill us or something.
Doop de doop doo do dooooo…. so, I’ll continue the conversation from the last thread!
Favorite Albums: Riot! Fever you can’t sweat out, From Under the Cork Tree, Sgt. Pepper, The Black Parade, Twilight soundtrack, Across the Universe soundtrack, Juno soundtrack, Sweeney Todd soundtrack
Fav. Artists: Paramore, Mutemath, Muse, P!atD, MCR, Beatles.
Fav. Songs: Curse of the Curves (darn you, Beavo!), Dance Dance, all songs by Paramore, Supermassive Black Hole, I’m Not Okay, All we are saying is give peace a chance.
THE Beatles RULE
I have had “O Fortuna” stuck in my head practically all day.
Help. ME.
.What is everyone listening to currently? As in, right this second?
Me: At Night Trees Aren’t Sleeping, of Montreal
1- The Beatles are awesome.
Right this second?
“I Got Rhythm”, from Crazy for You, my school musical (tryouts TOMORROW! EEK!)
10 – I assume you’re trying out? Good luck, Aggie!
11- Yes, thank you so much! I’m freaking out. I’ve got to practice my song…
I recently found out about this amazing “New Age” pianist, Steven Cravis. He’s very skilled. And cool.
8- Curse of Curves, 2 minutes ago. Now I’m listening to Bella’s Lullaby, and I plan on A Little Priest when that’s over. (God love Youtube).
1 – Who DOESN’T? XD
8 – Nothing at the moment, but I have been listening to “Hello Goodbye” and a bunch of Ocarina of Time songs recently.
We didn’t start the fire
It was always burning since the world’s been turning
We didn’t start the fire
No, we didn’t light it but we tried to fight it
If you have not heard that song, go listen to it NOW.
8~ Hard times by Stephen Foster. From the CD Life’s Little Wedgies by the Seldom Serious.
5~ I’m assuming you’re referring to Simon and Garfunkel?
How do they sound “evil” to you? I think they’re good.
(16) *sings along*
“‘Tis the song, the sigh of the weary:
Hard times, hard times, come again no more.
Many days you have lingered around my cabin door.
Oh, hard times, come again no more!”
(16, 17) Yikes! I used to like that song, but I developed a serious aversion to it when we sang it for Community Chorus a few years ago. But maybe if I imagine Robert and Midnight Fiddler singing it…
Simon and Garfunkel, on the other hand. ♥
By the way, MF, what vocal part do you sing?
(18) When I sing “”Tis a sigh that is wafted across the troubled wave, / ‘Tis a wail that is heard upon the shore,” I sometimes make humpack-whale noises.
(19) Oh, gosh, I almost choked on my sandwich.
I think I can safely say I’ll never think of that song the same way again.
I love MuseBlog.
When I get to school and someone asks me what I’m listening to, they look at me like I’m insane when I say the Beatles.
Here, people think it’s perfectly normal to like the Beatles. In fact, most people here like them and people’s usernames are sometimes derived from the Beatles (see Beatlesrockr).
I love music. I’m in choir (Bass).
My mom plays to much carly Simon music.
Currernt favorite song: Down to earth, on the Wall-e sound track.
22 – WWWAALLE! I love it when he says it like that
8- “Hurt” cover sung by Johnny Cash (originally Nine Inch Nails).
It is better than the original, in my opinion (and I am the metalhead not the country fan), and is one of the saddest songs you may ever hear.
And now it’s Low Man’s Lyric by Metallica. Also kind of sad. This is a playlist for when I am in a sad-ish mood…
I love Simon and Garfunkel. I especially like Scarborough Fair/Canticle, Bridge Over Troubled Water, Sounds of Silence, and Homeward Bound.
21- ‘See Beatlesrockr’
I like The Beatles, though definitely not as others. But I like ’em.
ZOMG awesome the new MC LiteFoot album is coming out! I know nobody cares about rap but MC LiteFoot is one of the premier Indian rappers out there. I preordered my copy online- they don’t sell it on itunes unfortunatamente…. And Independent lens showed the Swinomish film about the oil refineries- I know one of those kids.
Did I ever tell anyone I was Lennon and Lucas in the Halloween Ball? Or perhaps someone figured me out. In any case, thought I’d mention it for this thread.
.8
what ha? someone else likes of montreal? I need more of their cds. I think I may have driven myself crazy this summer listening to “Gronlandic Edit” on repeat because I liked it so much. I can’t get away from that song lol. I love their lyrics.
.28 (Axa) – another fan! I have two of their CDs: Cherry Peel and The Sunlandic Twins, as well as a few random songs. Cherry Peel is by far my favourite, but that may be because it’s newer (to me). What other music do you like?
8 – Believe it or not, I am on the Orisinal game Fishball listening to the happy underwater-y music. No, I’m not playing the game, I just like listening to it when I work on my papers.
I’m probably going to go back to Steven Cravis soon though.
21 – Really? I go to a slightly geeky school, but a ton of my classmates love the Beatles, and/or other not-the-icky-sorts-of-pop-and-rock music.
Sara Bareilles has another album that has been out for some time!
Pandora’s very convienent. Anyone else use it?
SFTDP.
0- Continued from version 2008.2?
31- I like it, but it’s hard to use it on my slow internet. YouTube is even worse.
I was listening to Pre-Teen Violence by MSI a second ago, but now I’m listening to Matthew Lush talking about coming out, althought that dosn’t really count as music.
1- The Beatles are amazing. That’s also my favorite song by them…
8- Well, the last thing I listened to part of was Heart-Shaped Box by Nirvana. But then mom made me turn the radio off…
31- <3 Pandora
Oh, this is here…hmm..okay. Yay!
31-Oh, yeah, I love Pandora. I also like Careful Confessions’ music better than I like Little Voice, but I can’t find the songbook for it. Grr.
25-Simon and Garfunkel…we did a show for Paul Simon one year in marching band; I was wearing the show shirt today actually. Haha. You Can Call Me Al, Bridge Over Troubled Water, Fifty Ways to Leave Your Lover, Still Crazy After All These Years, Late In the Evening and The Sound of Silence.
We had loads of fun parody-ing the song titles.
Has anyone ever heard a Thanksgiving song? I mean, something modern-ish? Something they would play on the radio?
Not exactly, but the Chicago folksinger Bob Franke wrote a lovely song called “Thanksgiving Eve.”
“I got rhythm-m-m-m, I got music, I got my man, who could ask for anything more?
I got daisies, in green pastures, I got my guy, who could ask for anything more?”
Those auditions were nerve-racking, but by golly, I think I nailed it! *headdesk for the southern accent*
31 – No Pandora for me. I like Last.fm better.
38 – Hoorah!
My friend keeps singing Christmas carols. During gym. In November. It’s pretty funny, actually, especially because she sang the first three words of Jingle Bell Rock in the locker room last week and fifteen other people immediately joined in and finished the song. The locker room is pretty much karaoke-land anyway.
Note to all Simon and Garfunkel Fans- Paul Simon is better on his own. (he was on Colbert a couple weeks ago). Graceland=EPIC.
The best songs are- well- all of them. Homeless is pretty cool, as is I know what I know and You can call me al- check out Baxithei Kumalo’s bass solo. And so is Boy in the Bubble.
Everyone! Go listen to The Decemberists!
:]
42-I like them a lot.
iTunes Just For You is back on! :)))
28- Oh yes. Oh yes.
Has anyone heard Amanda Palmer’s new album? I rather love her.
35- is that a real blogname or an AE?
I’m listening to “Taxman.” I’m not sure what song is next because iTunes is on Party Shuffle… but some of it might be Christmas music.
40: When I start singing in our locker room, the other girls yell at me to shut up, except for Frosting, Alfalfa, Soo Jin, and Ling Jung.
Re- Christmas Songs in November?: I’m already humming Christmas songs in October. It’s impossible to escape the madness when you’re in band.
.29
aha! see, I have “Satanic Panic in the Attic” and “Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer?”
I need to see if best buy carries their stuff…lol I haven’t bought cds from an actual store in a long time.
As for other music, I like Radiohead, Wilco, Bright Eyes…other stuff I listen to sporadically (Bob Dylan, Arcade Fire, Flaming Lips, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Sufjan Stevens…)
also some japanese bands/artists. not too many anymore.
I love classical music (v. broad, I know), opera, etc etc
@46 – Everyone yells at me to shut up when I sing in the locker room. I have no supporters…
I also speak Spanish in there, mainly because it’s directly after mi clase de español y estoy emocionantisimo para gymnasio.
Ah, locker room habits.
/gradster(1)/ – Secretary of Bureaucracy of the ASAP
.47
Ahhh, we should do an Of Montreal swap.
I’ve met Wilco, actually. The son of Jeff Tweedy is friends with my little brother.
Sufjan Stevens is also very good. I like your music.
49- Oh my gosh, really? I LOVE Wilco! That’s so awesome!
I’m currently on an FOB jag right now. “Fame<Infamy” is stuck in my head
I’m so worried that I didn’t make it into the musical. I don’t think I’ll be able to sleep tonight.
The Automatic Automatic- Monster is a good song. You guys would probably like it- its really quirky and has a great beat. (Not Rap)- Check it out and tell me what you think.
18~ First alto. I can sing up to an E (the highest open string on a violin) with effort, I think if I tried to go much higher my head would explode.
19~ Okay, okay, stop picking on me! the iTunes was on shuffle!
20~ Same.
25~ you picked some of my all time favorites in that list! I also love A Poem on the Underground Wall, and Blessed.
47~ I have Cassadaga, by Bright Eyes…….I like some of it, I Must belong Somewhere, that’s my favorite of theirs I think.
RE: Singing in the locker room; I rarely find myself in a locker room, but then I usually don’t sing. However, if you find yourself in a deserted public bathroom (preferably a large on with lots of tile walls) the acoustics are often very good…..try it out sometime, although be forewarned that it may earn you some odd looks if someone walks in in the middle if your solo.
.49
whoa! that’s pretty cool…
oh yeah for sufjan stevens, I love his song titles…I have Illinois and Seven Swans. I feel so peaceful listening to his stuff. not good for when I’m up late doing homework though…haha
.52
heh, a lot of people seem to like that song. Cassadaga is my favorite album of theirs really… I would also recommend “I’m Wide Awake It’s Morning” which is a bit more mellow.
39- Last.fm is good too, but I haven’t used the radio on it much.
45- Uh, what’s an AE? Potato Chip has been my blogname since December ’06.
54: AE stands for Alter Ego. Zinc the sorceress has been my blogname since- March? April? *checks* No, May. Hm.
46- Same here! I tune my radio to Mix 102.5 the minute it switches to all Christmas, which is usually Nov. 1st but was the 5th this year because of the election. Actually, I keep a count of what songs it plays, how many times each one plays, and what themes are in each song. Jeez, I sound nerdy+geeky squared.
39- I like KISS FM and 93q. I’ve never heard of Last.fm.
LOL, Zinc, you’ll love this one. I’m listening to the John Denver and the Muppets Christmas CD. I ♥ that CD.
We’ve been singing songs in Honors Spanish III to get our accents better, and it’s rather fun. The song that we sang today, which has been playing in my head ever since, is “Con Todos Menos Conmigo”, by a band which I can’t recall. It is a really cheesy 80s boy-band song, but it’s strangely addicting. Anyone else listen to non-English music?
There was a sub. teacher named Mr. Sweeney, and Karla decided to sing “Worst Pies in London” just to annoy him.
57) oh I definitely agree that singing in a foreign language helps pronunciation. I’m doing that right now lol. I listen to loads of japanese music as you may or may not know and it really helps me. It’s good for building vocab, as well as learning slang…lol one of my favorite artists uses so much slang…he’ll also use a certain regional dialect from time to time…as well as puns that are hard to translate into English. It’s helpful because in class we learn very formal and proper japanese, which is of course really important but it’s good to know all the ways people listen and communicate, you know?
it’s actually interesting to see how different things are described in different languages. there’s a lot you can learn culturally from songs as well.
I’m interested in any foreign music anyone can suggest. if anyone is looking for japanese music I’m here, though I doubt anyone is :p
O.M.G. AHHHHHHH! On the Fuse.com music video awards, CHRIS BROWN is beating PARAMORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS CANNOT HAPPEN!!!!!! PLEASE VOTE FOR PARAMORE!!!!!! IT ONLY TAKES A SECOND!!!!!!! *spazzes* I’m sorry, I just think about how sad our society is when CHRIS BROWN (ug, chris brown) is beating PARAMORE…
OMG, teh Fireworks song in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is awesome!
59 & 57–I loooove the African-themed music I have. It’s all from Lion King-based albums (Rhythm of the Pridelands), it’s so beautiful…puts a smile on your face just to hear the happiness in the group.
Japanese songs rock, Axa. Do you like Gackt?
…And singing in your Spanish class, Piggy–we had to do that! Does your teacher have you listen to Enrique Inglesias?
62-All my friends are obsessed with Enrique Iglesias. He’s OK, I guess.
I like opera, but that’s not really foreign music…
7-Carmina Burana? Because it is <3…
I now have all of Mink Car, which makes me very happy…also a lot more Solas!
Has anybody every heard of Tarkan? Because if he sang in English I think I would hate him, but it’s fun when you don’t know what he’s saying.
62) hahaha yes I like gackt. mostly stuff from Mars, Crescent, Rebirth… he is probably the most ridiculous person on the face of the earth so I have to laugh lol. I actually had an opportunity to see him live (not with his normal back up band though, with this sort of supergroup type thing…do you know about S.K.I.N.?) and it was really amazing.
59-The Hot Latkas Klezmer Band really isn’t foreign, but it’s in Yiddish. It’s not on iTunes, though.
64-That’s like Elis. They’re German/American, and a third of their songs are sung in German, a third in English, and a third in a mix of the two. Their most popular song right now, Der Letzte Tag, is really beautiful, partly beacuse you have no idea what they’re saying.
64 – Ahh, Carmina Burana was the theme of last year’s marching band show at my school! (I didn’t go there yet, though… but I’ve seen the video on youtube and it’s pretty awesome.)
64- I’ve sung Carmina Burana with the ******** College Oratorio Society. It was awesomely fun, but… the translations came out sounding kinda dirty…
31- pandora is very cool. I like switchfoot, some John Mayer, um, skillet, thousand foot krutch, kutless, dragonforce, coldplay, linkin park, JulienK, nickelback, and the song “Move Along” by the all-american rejects.
38- my older sister & brother were in tht musical
I ♥ that song!
really sorry about all the posts, but I am in my own band, IcePointe, and we’ve written one complete song called Eye For Eye.
62- Thankfully not. I’ve listened to some of his stuff, and it’s horrible.
72- I agree. Anyone ever hear “Hero?” *retch cough*
65– I love “Mizerable” from his earlier days. You’re sooo lucky to have at least seen him live, with other Japanese…artists is a good word for it.
72 & 73–He’s okay if you’re in the right mood for it…not that I have been for a looong time now. Should probably delete that stuff.
Sooo…anybody listen to Atreyu?
Listening to: Blue by the Birthday Massacre.
Clarissa’s making me a Nightmare Revisited CD!
74- One of my friends likes them. I’m not a big fan.
Right now I’m listening to Relient K.
I have a new law of rock. If you try and trump an original beatles song, not only will you fail. Your song will suck. In a few cases, it will be ok, but for the most part… no.
Now here’s two examples:
-The Jonas Brothers’ version of “Hello Goodbye”: It’s okay, but putting a beatles song over the pirates theme song is just – dude, seriously?
-Oasis’s version of “I am the Walrus”: The reverb of all the guitars just screwed everything up and the guy singing butchered the lyrics.
75- Cool song. I love your music, btw.
77- If you do a good job, however, your name shall be renowned by the UNIVERSE, because you are amazing.
Addicted by Saving Abel: Good song, but it can get tedious after awhile. And I hate how they popularized it.
I’m listening to this awesome 60’ssong over and over again. It’s called ‘The End of the World’ by Skeeter Davis.
77- Hear, hear. You can’t improve on perfection.
77 & 80–Amen to that!
Covers aren’t always a good thing.
78–How’d they popularize it? I agree, though, it can get kinda boring… A friend of mine told me about it. *shrugs*
I’m still amazed at the light tone of the Music thread since Fridgey is gone. It used to be all emo rock and screamer. Now we’re making fun of Enrique Iglesias and talking about how awesome The Beatles are. Oh, wait, does anyone know who Fridgey is? *feels old and lonely*
82-Yes, we (almost) all know who Fridgey is.
And it’s screamO, not screamER. And it’s not bad, actually. Not exactly my style, but I listen to Blessthefall or The Devil Wears Prada every once in a while. Not totally hardcore screamo, but still.
Comment: Emo music sucks.
Another comment: I was on facebook, and one of my friends started a band, and they were trying to figure out names. Some were listed:
Suicide Hearts
Driving Depression
Love Note To Her
Deadening
I was like WOW that’s not trying to get attention at ALL.
I like Atreyu, whoever said that.
And Relient K is okay. Clarissa sang the whole of Deathbed for her audition to something, and people were crying by the end.
Not because it was bad, but because it was sad, for the people who don’t know that song.
Listening to: Word Up by KoRn.
77-Across the Universe wasn’t that bad. It was good, actually.
My ear-buds broke, like they always do. Only one bud is broken, and the other one is really loud.
This has happened like, twenty times.
Not really. Maybe five.
82- Fridgey was into metal, not emo rock and screamo.
so, anyone here like Placebo? my friend from camp told me about them, and I just got an album (Meds). they’re really good.
76. Relient K is good. Huh, I like a band called JulienK, too.
I’m listening to [snip!].
(you probably haven’t heard of [snip!] its my brother’s band.
I guess they’re your average rockband.)
82-eh. you can’t agree with each other all the time, it gets boring. yes, the beatles are awesome, but who’s going to dispute that? besides glassy, and he’s a nutcase anyway
i finally got some queensryche. it’s pretty amazing even my mom likes it
actually, i found out that my mom – my mom, who likes country and dislikes led zeppelin – actually likes dream theater. or at least i played her a couple songs, and she liked them. crazy. she might not be a lost cause. i might start trying to edge her away from the country
i got a ton of new stuff that i haven’t listened to yet, so expect me to be on here a lot in the next couple of weeks
I feel alone… it seems that nobody in my school has the same musical tastes as I. They all love (referring to the girls here, I have no idea what the guys like) either the Jonas Brothers or Taylor Swift.
87- Ughhhhhh. Jonas Brothers fever has gripped my school, too. I have 2 songs by them on my iPod, because I gave in to peer pressure, but they’re actually pretty good. All the guys like emo/screamo stuff. Meanwhile, I’m listening to the Beatles, the Eagles, etc., and they’re all looking at me like “uh who are the Eagles?”
87 – It’s time. Ready the “Next Gen. Beatles Mania” ray gun.
88-the eagles are underappreciated. every time they come on the radio, someone invariably goes “ooh, i love this song! who did this again?”
and it’s up to me to sigh, and roll my eyes, and say in my best “duh” tone, “the EAGLES”
88- The ‘JoBros’ are a no-go… Teee-hee… I made a rhyme!!!
Hey, what happened to my other post? Did I not send it or something?
82–YES! I was just listening to Meds the other day. Placebo’s great!
83-I grew up listening to the Beatles and other groups from the sixties and seventies (actually, I like Frank Sinatra’s era too, from the 50s, I think), but the last couple of years I’ve been into harder and darker rock.
I like emo music, depending on what you define as emo, but everybody has their own definition of that one. I’m thinking the Used and Hawthorne Heights.
Screamo’s good…Bullet For My Valentine comes to mind.
87-Please don’t get me started on Taylor Swift. Let’s just say it annoys me too.
90-Yeah, they are underappreciated. For some weird reason I don’t recognize Hotel California until halfway thru it, tho.
89: *bangbangbang* Well, the kids on my street are cured now.
88: Okay, I admit too: I do like ‘Love Bug.’ And ‘Love Story’ isn’t all that bad.
90: I snap every time ‘Heartbreak Tonight’ comes on. It’s a great song.
I don’t really like Chicago (don’t kill me!), but I do like one of their songs: ‘Saturday in the Park.’ (In a completely unrelated note, I just spelled Saturday wrong, and one of the suggestions was ‘saturate.’ ♫Saturate, in the park, I think it was the Fourth of July!♪ *snicker*)
I’M NOOOOT, OKAY! I’M NOT OKAYYYYYYYYYY… YOU WEAR ME OOOOOUUUUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
*ahem*
Great song. But it’s over, so now I’m listening to Hot ‘n Cold!
Anyway…
81- They play it on the radio a TON, and then all the JoBro fangirls are all “OMG, saving abel, so kewl, omg…” I’m sorry, but any song renowned by JoBro fangirls is kind of… stale on my list. Like, Mansen or MCR are fresh out of the box because the OMG girls haven’t gotten to them. But the JoBros are stale, stale, stale!
83- Not ALL emo music sucks. And on band names, my friends and I are making a band and we might call it Supernatural Mentals. We were watching a 60 Minutes speil on a boy with sever autism, but he was a complete musical genius, and V said he was like a supernatural mental patient. We thought it was frickin amazing, and we’re doodling band logos in our binders now.
89- Mine must be defective, because there is still JoBro mania.
93- OMG BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE IS AMAZELING. I love Tears Don’t Fall.
Re: Taylor Swift: Ok, this is what really bugs me. About 2 years ago, I was listening to country music with meh horsie, and this song came on the radio. The chorus was about a girl crying on her guitar. I thought she could really sing, and she was on my Sansa later on that day. But then, about a month later, Taylor Swift got extremely popular and she was Popstar-ified. I was very depressed because I felt like I was one of the people who ‘discovered’ her, and me and a few select people deserved to listen to her because we were smart enough to like her music. Then they made the remix of Teardrops on my Guitar, and it was all over with me and Taylor. I still vaguely like her, but I don’t listen to her too much. Love Story is a nice feel-good song. Same with Jason Mraz; Syllabub and I have been listening to him since he came out with his first album. Then he got all popularified. Thankfully Carrie Underwood and the Dixie Chicks remain untouched.
Oh, forgot to mention this, but GERARD WAY IS GOING TO BE A DADDY!!!!!!!!! *squee* He should name her Helena, or Nightshade if male. And the Sweeney Todd soundtrack is vair cool.
93-NOT EMO. Emo music is dead. There’s hardly any left, not like that’s a bad thing. But The Used is not emo, and although Hawthorne Hights is closer, it’s not either.
96-I KNOW! It’s going to be the most beautiful baby in the world! Lyn-Z is pretty, and Gerard is amazingly beautiful.
Meh, I don’t really like Bullet for My Valentine. I have “Waking the Demon”, and it’s good, but they’re really not my style. Or Avenged Sevenfold, or Metro Station (hate), or Slipknot, which are practically my friends’ favorite bands other than My Chemical Romance.
Has anyone heard of a singer named Patrice (male)? I don’t know what to call his style of music, but I recently fell in love with it. Sort of reggae-pop-rap with something else on the side. Oh, and the Kinks pwn.
Dangit, I killed another thread.
I like punk rock. I listen to “Move Along” by the all-american rejects
100-Again, wrong genre. That’s ALTENRATIVE, friends. Just because it has guitars dosn’t mean it’s punk. The Ramones are punk. All-American Rejects are not punk.
Listening to: Michael Jackson, Bad.
95–Cool, I’m Not Okay (I Promise)! Gotta love Gerard Way becoming a dad…that’s so sweet!
100, 101…haha. Well, Beavo, there’s a lotta mixed genre stuff. *shrugs* I can see where you’re coming from.
It irks me a little when people say Move Along is punk, too.
Michael Jackson ish good, too.
Anybody heard “Gives You Hell” (AAR) yet?
Does anyone listen to Underoath?
101- i guess. have you seen the Weird Al Yancovic spoff of Bad called “I’m Fat”?
97- Yeah… I can’t wait! I’ve never really cared about celebrity babies, but this is very exciting for me! I might just be following it on their website… the games on their site are very fun, btw.
101-i wouldn’t call all-american rejects alternative either. i’d probably go with wannabe punk. they are actually closer in style to punk i think. not that i’ve heard much beyond their two big songs
also, the ramones are sweet
105- All American Rejects are kind of weird… I used to like them, but now, meh…
Muse=great band.
103-Yes, I was actually listening to that yesterday.
105-Actually, you’re right. They’re not quite bubblegum alternative (ahemboyslikegirlsahem) that are closer to pop, and they’re definatly not really punk, NOT rock, and has most of the elements of Alternative which is basically rock but kind of messed up and more popish.
107- Real alternative rock is not AAR and Boys like girls and Fall out boy. Real alternative is the Automatic Automatic. Does anyone know them? They have a song called “Monster” that’s really good. Search it on itunes or youtube.
102- Gerard Way will make a hot dad *sigh*, but because Pete Wentz named he and Aslee’s baby boy ‘Bronx Mowgli Wentz’, I’m not so sure.
106- Muse is flamablamablous, and I’m talking about the band here even though the mag is also. ‘Starlight’ is my life anthem. I asolutely love them.
108- Well, you’re right about that: FOB is an Indie-Alt twist (if you’ve ever listened to the new Panic At The Disco, you’ll know what I’m talking about), and is not true Alternative. Yes, I’ve also heard of ‘Monster’. It’s on my most listened list on my iPod.
109- Such a hot dad…
108- I don’t know, I wouldn’t group Fallout Boy with Boys like Girls. Fallout Boy reminds me of Panic, like Aggie said.
I have A Little Priest stuck in my head. From Sweeney Todd. Look it up.
“Alternative which is basically rock but kind of messed up and more popish.”
ok
alt ≠pop
and, many times rock = pop
especially older/classic rock
alt is similar to rock, but not necessarily “more popish.” it can be, but it’s usually not. it’s rock with a twist, or not even rock, just all twist. that twist could be pop or punk or just plain weird.
alt is like flaming lips, franz ferdinand, TMBG, radiohead, arctic monkeys, etc
111–I’ve gotta say that it’s hard to categorize any music, ’cause everybody has their own definiton. *shrug* If you like the music, that’s enough, isn’t it?
Does anyone know why “The Little Drummer Boy” has the lyrics “the ox and lamb kept time?” How do an ox and a lamb keep time?
112- They are very skilled animals. And I agree with your music grouping sentiment.
Okay, so I was watching iCarly with my brother today (half watching, half talking to bffl elissa) and suddenly this guy named Nikko (wtf???) comes on and begins to DESTROY alternative music! He had an emo flip and HotTopic-esque clothes, and the music was sort of alt, but the LYRICS! It was TERRIBLE! It was like Cute Is What We Aim For skooshed by Disney! AHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!11
Has anyone here besides Beavo heard of weird Al Yancovic? He’s hilarious!
.114 – I like his Amish Paradise song and White n Nerdy. The videos are especially amusing.
111 – Radiohead is pretty mainstream. I don’t know if I would call it alternative. Although music that is actually ‘alternative’ seems to be referred to as ‘indie’ lately.
113~ What did you expect from iCarly? I wasn’t terribly impressed when I watched it last summer.
115-meh. i usually try to save the term indie for actual independent music. although radiohead qualifies. and alternative doesn’t mean it’s not mainstream, it just means it isn’t rock. pretty much everyone i know listens to alternative stuff
114-weird al is love. there are times when i have too much of him though…like right after white ‘n nerdy came out *shudder* the vid for that is hilarious though
tree lighting ceremony tomorrow…and we’re actually marching. through the snow. that’s a new thing this year. >.<
I was talking about mainstream alternative. Like the stuff you hear on the radio. The people who love Metro Station and Hannah Montana. Yes, I agree that “real” Alternative isn’t really popish.
108-I actually looked that up, but I forget what I thought about it now…
110-Clarissa said I should sing that for my audition but no. I love the Todd soundtrack though.
113- Creepy. Then again it is iCarly…
118- If Hannah Montana is Alternative, then I’m going to stop listening. *shuddershuddershudder*
Has anyone ever heard of Modest Mouse or Vampire Weekend? If you haven’t, go listen. They’re great bands, and with great music, although I admit that VW is a bit too Indie for my taste.
118- Hannah Montana… alternative? I’m pretty sure that’s pop.
119- Yes! Modest Mouse is amazing. I have one song by Vampire Weekend… I should probably get some more.
114–Yup, I’ve heard of Weird Al. He’s really popular around here. Ever heard “You’re Pitiful?” (spoofing You’re Beautiful)
117–Woah, you mean your marching band has to march in the snow? That can’t be fun…I hope you can put hand-warmers in your gloves!
I thought everyone was done for the season. Except for the whole “I’m still your section leader, even if we’re in concert band,” thing.
97- Metro Station SUCKS. Actually, so does Miley Cyrus. She used to be OK, but now… ugh. Did anyone see the AMAs? She sang “Fly on the Wall” and it was TERRIBLE. I was like what the frick, this song has no tune! She was forgetting her lyrics and stuff, too. Yikes.
95- I ♥ Hot N Cold. I also like Love Story, but it’s not the best song (what is UP with all these Romeo&Juliet songs?) I like Jason Mraz OK, but he’s not my favorite. “I’m Yours” is pretty good.
Sigh. Not AGAIN. Now there’s yet another mania at my school, and it’s Aaron Carter, of all people. His songs are sooooo annoying.
114- Yeas sir!
116- Yeah, but still…! My brother is obsessed with it, and I must say that Spencer is growing on me.
Miley Cyrus; She can’t sing. She can’t act. She sucks.
121- YES! But my all time favorite by him is “Lasagna”.
122- I so agree.
Metro Station: “Shake It” is the most annoying thing ever.
Miley: “Fly on the Wall” is a close second.
Hannah: “Best of Both Worlds” is definitely up there.
Miley/Hannah: Annoying and unnecessary. How she got famous: she has a famous dad. No talent necessary.
Weird Al: “The Saga Begins” is awesome.
125- (Weird Al) yes! American Pie is great, too.
119-hearts to both those bands
it was really funny, we were talking in music theory about how coldplay stole the solo in viva la vida from some other guy, and how vanilla ice stole music from queen’s under pressure and suddenly devin goes “yeah, like how vampire weekend totally stole that one part from be your own pet!” and everyone except me is like “…whu…?” and johnson starts laughing
121-i’m everyone’s section leader. bwahaha. except it means i have to play first for full orch, which is supposed to be a piccolo trumpet part and i have to play it on a regular Bb trumpet and if you are a trumpet player you should know how obnoxiously high that is and why it is so horrible. i am going to have such a headache after the concert…
127- That’s a good one. I must remember that.
the Matrix soundtrack is ultimately pwnful. I love those movies to death, but the soundtrack is equally as good or better.
When did I say Hannah Montana was Alternative? She dosn’t even deserve Pop. She’s like, crap. I meant the people that like them have their own definition of Alternative, and it’s more pop than rock.
Not mine, theirs.
119-Modest Mouse, :).
Metro Station: Kill them. Trace Cyrus is not hot. And he dosn’t look like me! The next person who says I should get Monroe’s just to look like him is going to get their tounge cut out.
Listening to: Talk ****, by the Millionaires. Weird, weird, weird. Sent to me by a friend. Half of it is comprised by the words “Back down ***** you’re ******* done.”
Really, guys?
Pertaining to Weird Al, has anyone heard Hardware Store? I think his original songs are better than his parodies.
130- I haven’t but I shall.
129- Strange song.
Grace Kelly, by Mika. Good, good song.
127 – Piccolo trumpet parts? Ouch. My accomplishment of the day: high D. Of course, I’m a third trumpet, which means the highest I have to play is high G (yes, there’s one that goes that high). Our first chair is really bad at soloing, but he has a solo in almost every song. Of course, none of the rest of us are good at soloing either…
132- I got a drum solo in Simple Gifts. It sounds like a revolutionary war battle drum type thing… really cool.
133–simple gifts? as in…..
♫tis the gift to be simple, tis the gift to be free, tis the gift to come down, where you ought to be, and when we find ourselves in the place just right, twill be in the valley of love and delight.
When true simplicity is gained, to bow and to bend, we shan’t be ashamed, to turn, turn will be our delight, till by turning, turning we come round right.♫
Or a different song by the same name?
A junior-age friend and I are performing a flute/cello duet in our concert: the Nutcracker Suites, Dance of the Reed Pipes and Sugar Plum Fairies. It’s fun, but I’m really scared. I’m also singing “O Holy Night”. Alone
Without anyone but a piano.
Ack.
*hides*
132-in or out of the staff?
I just made an icon that has this guy wearing a fishnet shirt under a shirt showing his midriff, earrings, skinnies, and arm warmers. The caption is “Yeah, I’m fruity for a guy, but your girlfriend likes it.”
136 – Out of. 3 D’s above middle C.
119- Ahh were you not around for my MM ravings the last 6-9 months?
I saw them play in June last summer. Best night of my life, I mean that literally. I brought my 4 friends, though we were in a high box and farish from the stage, but we got desserts and our own lougne room thing and foods. And access to the desert cart! And it was all free. Ohhh I still owe my uncle for that (his company owned the box) *love*
It was epic epic epic win.
And I have I think… 112 songs by them, plus Ugly Cassanove (Issac Brock plus some other people, it’s very interesting, esspecally ‘Things I Don’t Remember’). Thining about getting another cd as well.
Got the new Elvenking accoustic cd, woo!! Becuase since I haven’t posted in a while I must rave about them, mhm…
So I guess since Fridgy’s not here anymore, ebeth it looks like we need to introduce these people to metal.
If anyone is willing to listen to a few songs, I will post songs/artists in a variety of sub-generas. I garuntee there is going to be at least some every one of you will like. For those of you who’ve never listened to any metal, it is not what you think.
Listening to: RocketShipToTheMoon by Dot Dot Curve, the New Version
139-I’m open to suggestions. I don’t know a lot of metal that isn’t industrial or gothic.
Metal Bands that I Like (most not really metal):
Elvenking
Sotata Arctica
Elis
HIM
Falconer
Cradle of Filth
Theatre of Tragedy
Nightwish
KoRn
Marilyn Manson (not really metal, more Industrial)
Rob Zombie (again, not really metal)
Evenescence (not really metal since the mainstream thing)
Yeah, I’m pretty stupid about metal.
138-yeah. killer. i can play them, but not on effing sixteenth-note chromatic runs (i’m looking at you, Christmas in Sarajevo)
139-woo, metal! i just got some tyr and i LOVE it.
140-EK and SA are good, as is Nightwish. haven’t heard enough HIM to judge, but i don’t like Cradle of Filth or Evanescence. as for the others, dunno.
metal suggestions!
Amon Amarth-melodic death metal, what’s not to love? if you’re not a metal fan, don’t start with them but once you get in to some of it, defs check them out
Ayreon-really, really, really cool. has a storyline and everything. like a metal(ish, it’s not that metal) opera!
Dream Theater-progmetal. amazingly awesome. good place to start if you don’t normally listen to metal
Eluveitie-folk metal! good stuff
Helloween-power metal! again, a good place to start for those new to metal-more melodic, less growling
Iron Maiden-classic metal, could be a good place to start. i came from the other end (folk metal to the big stuff) but this is where a lot of people first hear metal
Korpiklaani-again, folk metal! lots of beer and such. good stuff
Masterplan-epic power metal, good place to start. listen to Masterplan and Aeronautics, those albums were made when they had the good singer (MK II is pretty bad, imho)
Metallica-see iron maiden, except from about Garage Inc. on they kind of sucked
Opeth-very interesting musically. good stuff
Queensryche-great place to start for metal. similar to hard rock, esp. in terms of singing
Sonata Arctica-what can i say, they’re awesome. power metal, fantastic guitar and great singing
Tuatha de Danann-Loooove. folk metal, kind of fantasy-based. has dwarves and fairies and suchlike, and is really cool
Tyr-Viking awesome. similar to Tuatha de Danann, at least from what i’ve heard so far
Van Canto-a cappella metal. way fun, and also potentially a good way to ease yourself in to metal
oh, totally forgot nightwish!
i’m guessing most of you know who they are though, and if not you can easily look them up
140- Well, Elvenking(wonder where you got that from, XD), SA, and Nightwish are all very good. I’m not really into gothic/black metal (some black, but not a lot…), I like more folk/progressive/power/thrash/death. So some from each of those categories…
(For people interested: read the categories, pick one you think you might like, then the same with bands/songs. You don’t have to listen to every single one, but if you’re interested in expanding your musical horizons, this could start you off.
Folk: Incorporates various folk-type instruments and themes, such as violins, flutes, ect.
Well, Elvenking is obviously my first recommendation to those who haven’t listened to any. Most of their cds (Heathenreel, Wyrd, TWW, Two Tragedy Poets) have clean mostly vocals (though some singing has a heavy Italian accent), very good melodies and
– Songs: Trow’s Kind, On the Morning Dew, Neverending Nights, Seasonspeach, Moonchariot, The Divided Heart, Dominhate. Show a mix of their different styles.
Eluveitie: Heavier than EK, harsher vocals, but still very good. Has a very different feel, and a lot of their singing is in another language (Dutch? I think maybe?). Lost of interesting instruments, bagpipes, pipes, the like.
– Songs: Lament (love this one), Adiu, Of Fire Wind and Wisdom (first folk metal, maybe even metal, song I ever heard!), The Dance of Victory, Slania’s Song
If you like them, also check out Korpiklaani.
Progressive: It’s… I don’t really know what to say about it. It’s very fast. Usually clean vocals. Very complex, intricate parts in it.
Ayreon are awesome, one of my favourite bands, especially their 01011001 cd. Like ebeth said, tells a story, and is kind of opera-esque. Very, very pretty, would recommend to everyone here. No… ‘scary’ parts I suppose.
– Songs: the 01011001 cd, Comatose, New Born Race, E=MC2(squared), Unnatural Selection
Dream Theater: Ebeth pretty much covered it. I like the cd ‘Octavarium’ best.
– Songs: These Walls, I Walk Beside You, The Root of All Evil, Octavarium(24 min)
Queensrÿche’s also good I think, haven’t heard much of them,
Power: Not quite as technical as prog but still very much so. Lots of fantasy/mythology fun stuffins.
Sonata Arctica: Are great! Fantasy, songs are addicting and good for people just starting out. Clean vocals.
– Songs: In Black and White, Tallulah, The Wind Beneath my Wings(cover I think, but awesome), Fly with the Black Swan
Helloween are awesome awesome awesome, Almost all clean vocals.
– Songs: Mr. Torture, Power, I Want Out, Eagle Fly Free, Forever and One, Hell Was Made in Heaven
No worries, I will continue this later when I am not being kicked off the computer. But start with these and ebeth’s, everyone! *stern look*
138-ps if you can play a high d why are you third? you must have a really awesome trumpet section…jared and i are pretty much the only trumpets that can play that high and we’re first and second chairs
also re soloing-yeah we split up the solos and i can tell mom’s gonna be all like “why are you giving your solos away mrahr mrahr” j came up to me in class and was like “so, why did you give jared your solo?” and jared was sitting right there and j was just ignoring him. and i was like “we split them up…like we always do…” and he just shrugged and walked away. but i basically hate solos.
144 – I’m having some issues with my playing because of my braces. We never actually go that high (except in some first trumpet parts in jazz band music). My band is better than your average freshman band, but we’re still a freshman band. Ah well, reauditions Tuesday. Maybe I can move up (hopefully not down).
145-ouch >.< i’m so glad i never had braces. and wow, you must be really good, i couldn’t hit a high d until last year, as a junior (high c, however, i hit in 7th grade and could hit almost every time i played it in 8th, so some of that could have been my own laziness, which is substantial :P)
Thanks for the suggestions, Ebeth and Jadestone.
Listening to: ALCOHOL, by the Millionaires. It’s meaningless crap, but it’s catchy.
146 – I didn’t hit a high B until this year. I’ve gotten so much better now that I’m in high school. Something about having a band director who actually cares if you sound good instead of decent… And practicing several days a week.
133–Ooh, Simple Gifts? By Aaron Copeland? That was our show last year in Marching Band! Congrats on the solo!
147–Have you tried Mudvayne or Sevendust? I think they’re called metal by some people.
Anyone into Coheed and Cambria? They’ve got an entire story woven between all their separate albums.
149- Aaron Copland? *throws up*
Ebeth and Jadestone’s recommendations are all very good (I’ve heard most of the bands listed). I would like to add that of those bands, Amon Amarth, Eluveitie, and Opeth are not good for starting, because they are growly. (I still don’t like Amon Amarth and Eluveitie too much, but I love Opeth.)
Two more bands: Symphony X (prog metal) and Stolen Babies (avant-garde metal, female vocalist).
If anyone’s interested, the first metal song I ever heard was Rouse Your Dream by Elvenking. I thought it was okay then… I started liking metal a little later with Rhapsody of Fire (Land of Immortals) (don’t listen to them much now) and Sonata Arctica (Full Moon). Then I listened to Rouse Your Dream again and absolutely loved it. I pretty much only listened to classical music and a little classic rock (mostly the Beatles) before that. (Dream Theater is also great if you’re coming from a classical background, because they’re very complex and have great keyboards.)
140- I love HIM…
149- My friend likes them (Coheed and Cambria)… haven’t heard any of their stuff. will check them out.
150- What!?
151-i was going to put stolen babies but i wasn’t sure that they were legit metal exactly. but i agree, they are awesome. and i’ve heard a few songs by symphony x and they were really good
150-copland rocks. come on, fanfare for the common man? great stuff
Fatmir Makolli is beast
152 – Fanfare for the Common Man? We played that in band last year. It was pretty terrible, because the whole piece revolved around the trumpet section.
In band today, we sightread a piece that I played last year. And I didn’t even realize that I had played it before until the end of the piece.
Reauditions tomorrow! *freaks out* *thinks better of it and goes to practice*
154-haha that’s why i like it
Ugh. Aaron Copland is like… melodramatic, caffeine-induced, temporary insanity, but without the fun.
Journey, anyone?
156- *Just a small town girl… Livin in a LONEly world*
*everyone is deaf as cliffy fails to hit that high note again*
154- I liked that song actualy. Huh.
Has anyone sang “Can you hear?” in choir? Thats my all time fav choir song.
Sung, YS. I sang; I have sung.
157- Have you seen the music video for “Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)”? It’s so amazingly cheesy and awesome.
159- Oh okay. thank you. My grammer and spelling is not the best in the world.
I am currenly listening to Idena Menzel, anyone a fan of her?
160- *looks up* Not as catchy as Don’t stop believing.
LOOK UP BAYAR SAHIN- CILVELI OY
nothing really to contribute right now. I’m not a great metal lover, but still, it’s awesome guitar.!!
Re- High notes: It takes me a few times to hit the high C on the Bb major concert scale, but other than that, clarinet’s pretty easy. (Our high notes are pretty shrill. Someone blasted one in my ear. Ouch. >.< ) And you know what’s really awesome? Get your mouthpiece and the bell together and just blow, moving the bell around. Sounds really awesome; I suspect some folly (?) artists use it.
161- Grammar. Grammer would be more of a pet name for a dear grandmother. Or Gram-gram.
Yes, I’m obsessive.
164 – I’m not quite sure how that would work on a trumpet. Our mouthpieces are much smaller than our bells.
We had a “study hall” during band today. People were playing songs on the student teacher’s iPod, and the rest of us were trying to play the piano loud enough to drown it out. Trust me, it is very difficult to improvise on “Autumn Leaves” while “I want it that way” it being played very loudly behind you.

123~ Yeah, he cracked me up too…….this summer included a good deal of time where I was pretty much left to my own devices. within easy walking distance of a library (with free WiFi for my compy) and at the house with access to a TV with a lot of stations…….there was some time burned watching iCarly and Drake and Josh……..and the Suite Life of Zack and Cody. More Drake and Josh……more iCarly…..more Drake and Josh. You get the pattern.
to bring it back to topic, speaking of TV singers, that same time I was watching Drake and Josh and I randomly wondered if he was actually really singing…..next day, internet searches, YouTube…..and I had “Make’s Me Happy” stuck in my head for the rest of the week. Agh, not my intention, but whatever. It wasn’t actually that bad. Anyway, I’m rambling. Ignore me.
*goes away and hides*
Do you know how I mentioned “KT West?” I learned it’s “Conyay West.” Does anyone know a singer who has a name that sounds like that??
Its kanye, and Kanye west Sucks.
170-Amen. Daft Punk lyric burglar.
3oh!3 obsession, currently.
Also, Eagle, I looked up Monster, which I plan to listen to when this song is done.
remember stolen babies? i’ve been obsessing over so close lately (the song)
172–I just looked them up…they’re pretty sweet.
I finallly got an electric guitar for my birthday, YAY!
Plus Fall Out Boy and All-American Rejects both came out with new albums….
…aaand I got to take one of our xylos home to practice All-District on over break…
Methinks it was a crazy, but also cool week for music in my life.
Steven just drafted me into his band as the drummer.
Him: You’re our drummer, btw.
Me: I can’t drum.
Him: We’ll fake it.
Me: I can bang on trash cans, but that’s it.
Him: Haven’t you heard of computor drumming?
Me: Yeah, it sounds lame and faked.
Him: That’s cause it is.
Me: … I have to go to art.
174~ Have fun, lol.
I’m listening to “My Bonnie Light Horseman” (also called “Broken Hearted I will wander”) and trying to learn it off the MIDI file on a website (I absolutely adore the said website)…however, mom’s practicing the cello in the same room makes it a little hard. Oh well.
I love Stolen Babies!
…I love the way that sentence sounded!
I need to listen to Stolen Babies.
If I said that out loud I think Mom would freak out. I think I will.
Me: I need to listen to Stolen Babies.
Mom: WHAT
Me: Nothing.
Mom: WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT
Me: laughlaughlaugh
176- Its better than Dead Babies.
178-Is that even a band?
That would be so cool if it was.
174–Oh, don’t worry if you have to bring trash cans, Beavo! There’s a school around here that has its percussion section beat on trash cans. Seriously.
179–This is what I got from a quick search:
“Dead Babies, a tribute to the original Alice Cooper band(…)”
Not surprising, considering Cooper…
So sorry that this is not related to the above convo (Stolen/Dead Babies? Sorta sad doncha think?) but this IS music related:
So we are singing this song in our schools selece choir. I have known this song since 6th greade (I’m currenly in 8th) It is my FAVORITE choir song. It is called: Can You Hear? There is a solo in the beginning. I GOT THE SOLO!!! It’s not for all the other concerts but it WAS for today and I performed it in front of my grade and even though no one knew it was me because no one ever thinks I do anything beside from read it was AMAZING! And wow. Sorry.
Anyways.
181-congrats! solos are hardcore.
181- Awesome! And congrats!
I love Weird Al. Especially “dare to be stupid,” “canadian idiot,” “trapped in the drive-thru,” and “white and nerdy.”
Search of “Dead Babies” on iTunes:
Alice Cooper song. Surprising? Nah.
Warped Tour Lineup is out! BrokenCYDE, Millionaires, The Devil Wears Prada, 3oh!3, Escape the Fate, I Set My Friends on Fire, JEFFREE STAR.
I AM SO GOING. SO SO SO GOING.
SFDP, but I forgot.
I just looked at iTunes tops, and there’s actually some catchy stuff on there. Not great, but catchy.
Heartless, by Kanye West (wow, when did he get good?)
Just Dance by Lady GaGa (never heard of her)
Oh, and Miss Britney Spears is coming to DC SO GOING. Yeah, I dream a lot.
SQUEE! I just came back from NY where I bought my first cifteli- I can already play two songs. I’m hoping I can send a video clip to the GAPAs.
134- The same.
*twitch* Right now I am unfortunately addicted to LaLa by Ashlee Simpson. *twitch* They do not have it on Amazon Mp3 downloads. *twitch*
187- That is the first time I have ever heard/seen a guy squee before.
188-Have you not seen my frequent newbie squees?
184- Have you only listened to “Straight Outta Lynwood”? (Or however you spell it)
(SFTDP)
Earlier today I went to Barnes & Noble and got the most awesome soundtrack in the world. It’s the complete LOTR 1 recordings. 3 CDs and a DVD of every bit of music played during the Fellowship of the Ring. A mite expensive, but well worth it, in my opinion.
Wouldn’t “The Wungs” be a good name for a band?
(192) Or “The Wung Buttons.”
(193) Or “Bunny Apocalypse.”
194-Bunny Apocalypse would be a good band name.
If anyone’s ever seen Godspell…please tell me if it’s healthy to be singing “Alas For You” at a uniform-required public school (that’s what mine is…)
I like Greenday’s music. “American Idiot” seems to symbolize the average American.
Re: Band names- Bunny Apocolypse would be beast. Sounds like a synth-scream type of thing.
195-Sing whatever the heck you want. It’s probably not healthy to go skipping down the hallways at my racist, homophobic, closed minded middle school but that dosn’t stop me.
Godspell was a good musical. Better onstage than the movie, though.
196-Hey, I’m only in 5th grade. I annoy mean teachers on purpose-
Last year, during FCAT (I live in Florida), my teacher got mad at my friend for walking weird because he fell. I got back by shaking my shoes (they have metal charms on them.)
Well, I’m learning that I think I like Madonna’s music. Natural?
I’m currently listening to ‘Bruises’ by Chairlift, otherwise known as that ‘handstands’ song from the iPod 4G commercial, and I have to say, it’s a really good song. I think I’m going to buy it. Until then, here are the lyrics:
“I tried to do handstands for you
I tried to do headstands for you
Everytime I fell on you, yeah, everytime I fell
I tried to do handstands for you
But everytime I fell for you
I’m permanently black and blue, permanently blue for you.
I tried to do handstands for you
I tried to do handstands for you
Everytime I fell on you, yeah, everytime I fell
I tried to do handstands but everytime I fell for you
I’m permanently black and blue, permanently blue for you-ooh-ooh-ooh
For you-ooh-ooh-ooh
So black and blue-ooh-ooh-ooh
For you-ooh-ooh-ooh.
I grabbed some frozen strawberries so I could ice your bruising knees
But frozen things they all unfreeze and now I taste like….
All those frozen strawberries I used to chill your bruising knees,
Hot July ain’t good to me
I’m pink and black and blue for you.
I got bruises on my knees for you
And grass stains on my knees for you
Got holes in my new jeans for you
Got pink and black and blue
Got bruises on my knees for you
And grass stains on my knees for you
Got holes in my new jeans for you
Got pink and black and blue for you-ooh-ooh-ooh
For you-ooh-ooh-ooh
So black and blue-ooh-ooh-ooh
For you-ooh-ooh-ooh…”
Oh, whoops. Accidental post.
Re: Band Names:
I like Bunny Apocalypse, obviously.
My friend and I are forming a band, and we’re stuck between two names: “Wardrobe Malfunction” or “Neverending Streetlamp”. I think we’re going with the first one, because I want the second to be the name of one of my songs.
Joy, I can finally use my new iPod,and I got the artwork for my CDs. Except that some of them got the wrong covers. “The Songs of Stephen Foster” showed up as a different CD by the same name but different than mine. Grrrrr. Some of my others did he same, and I’m very, very annoyed. Gaelic Storm’s first album (which had an awesome cover) showed up all weird, and I KNOW that it’s on iTunes with the right cover……very angry about that one.
but, the music is all there, so I guess it’s okay. Maybe I’ll be able to change it, I don’t know. Hope so.
I also got a gift card, so I’m trying ti think what to buy……ooh, so many choices! I want them all………*sigh* Pathetic. Really pathetic.
199-I vote the first. The second kind of sounds strange.
Go look up Looking Glass Wars! My friend’s cousin is the drummer… not bad either.
SFDP, but Cliff Eagle:
Have you seen the Monster music video? If not, GO WATCH IT.
Bigfoot dance
Whee! I just got a geeky CD that I’ve wanted for ages! I’m sucha freak…….*sigh*
Anyway, I still have $15 to spend in iTunes…….ohh, what do I want????
203- I have $15 in iTunes too. I don’t know, though… I might ignore the music side of it entirely and spend all my money on This American Life television episodes. I’ll definitely get the first one, just to see how it is, if it’s not too expensive.
199- I like Neverending Streetlights
203- We’re all freaks here. You’re among friends.
202- Saw it, man.
Listening to- Bayar Sahin: Cilveli Oy
Wooo $80 to iTunes all together! A good thing to, I was donw to $5.77. All good now, then. Have to think about what to get, now… maybe some Demons & Wizards or Kamelot…
208- Cool!
Apparently, Queen was voted as Britain’s favorite band of all time. I was a bit startled; the Beatles seemed like a shoo-in.
We need a 2009 thread.
I just bought “thats not my name” by the ting tings on itunes. Silly I know, but I saw them perform on new years and I liked the eergy they had, and the fact that she was a blonde rapper It was unique.
(210) Good idea!
204~ You’d get a kick out of the CD I got… Sea Shanties and Forcastle Songs from Mystic Seaport.
Hmm, now I’m down to $11 and something cents now….I got a few more last night….Simon and Garfunkel and Steeleye Span….my musical tastes are way out there. Not that everything I listen to is particularly weird, just that you might not expect them to be enjoyed by the same person.
For example, the Rolling Stones and Stan Hugill appeal to radically different types. Yet I have some songs that I adore from both.
212- -GASP- I ♥ Steeleye Span!
I am learning to enjoy the Beatles.
213~ I only have one song (One Misty Moisty Morning) but I really like it………and want MORE MORE MORE. *sigh* Maybe I’ll have to break down and spend more money. I hate spending money, because then I don’t have any left. *cringe* *sigh* *wants more music* *is in eternal conflict with self*
214- I don’t know that song… I have the whole “Below the Salt” album.
I got a guitar for christmas. I’m not sure how to play it. I’ve gotta pick up a learn to play guitar book. I got a tuner though, so that’s a start. Anyone know of a good learn to play guitar book.
Once I know how to play it I’m going to be golden. finally I can figure out the background to my five songs.
I got a new MCR CD that I didn’t know existed yesterday! It’s a really old one, from like 2002 or something… but it comes with a BONUS DISC 0.o… I also got new earbuds, they are purple and squishy!
Has anyone heard of a band called “Standard of Living”? I saw them, and Cute is What We Aim For, in concert the other day. I’ve always love CIWWAF but Standard of Living kind of blew me away.
186- Oh, is that who it’s by? I like that song (Just Dance). I have $25 on iTunes and I’m going to buy it.
Aaaand, I’m buying KT Tunstall’s CD Drastic Fantastic on Amazon, since I have a $20 gift card, aaaaand I’m buying Cascada’s CD Everytime We Touch and Natasha Bedingfield’s Unwritten on Barnes & Noble. I’m trying to decide whether to spend the $10 I’ll have left on B&N on a new book/CD, but a) I can’t find a CD that costs $10, and b) what if I really need a new book at some point? I’m buying one on my Amazon card and that will make it go over by $1. And we need $25 to get free shipping, so… Oh, darn, there are three books I want. And they all cost $6.99. Sigh… I’ll ask Mom. But there’s not much chance that I’ll actually get any iTunes stuff by Monday, because we have dial up internet that can barely handle MuseBlog, let alone the iTunes store. Drat.
So the music thread ate all my posts yesterday. Uhg. Can’t the WordPress Gnomes eat elsewhere?
Anyway, I spent a lot of yesterday afternoon/evening burning a lot of my music to cds to back it up (most of y music is on the computer only, from iTunes or friends). I got this cd-organizer thing for Christmas with space for 80 disks, so I thought I might as well. Then I found pretty colored disks, so spent more time than necessary matching up artists/albums with their specific colors Except there were no green cds, which was bothersome, as Elvenking/Skyclad/Elvarhøi/Tutha de Danann are very much green.
The iTunes store is so slow it’s painful. Really painful. It just doesn’t work on dial up, even when the said dial up connection is going relatively well for what it’s past offenses have been. *dies* Well, it’s more the crappy phone line here in Nowheresburg where I live (cable isn’t available here, at all). *sigh*
215~ The one I got is on Parcel of Rogues. I’m thinking that the first chance I get I’m going to buy some of their CDs, since I really like what I’ve heard and they’ve been recommended to me by several people.
Hmm, I’m really annoyed that one of the songs I got the other day wasn’t what I thought it was going to be. I wanted the whole song, not just the first verse and then part of another one! Grrr. Maybe I’ll try again to get the whole song again, since I really like it.
