Otzi wants to go to law school and then on to the White House, where she’ll kick back in the Red Room after a hard day of being president. She wonders what your plans are. (As does Planet of the APEricot’s villager.) So, the topic here is careers: Your goals, dreams and nightmares.
Continued in Version 2006.2.
Hey, I also suggested a careers blog!?! *sniff*
I want to be a Roman historian (or midieval, Read Timeline) or a biologist
timeline’s by the guy who wrote Jurrasic park. Great book
I want to study ants, if I’m a biologist. I think it’s amazing how they get around the struggles in life.
And then I want to study Roman warfare. NOt just a historin, but a historian/archeologist.
President would be cool because you get free M&M’s. I love M&M’s!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hey 1st post. *first post dance*
I want to grow up and become a virologist, and study bacteria and diseases and how people get sick. I will spend my days peering at microscope slides, appealing for grants, and using antibacterial soap. Either that unsavory fate or I will become a chemist.
Hey, Otzi I am running for president after going to Harvard.
Write for Muse. Astrophsics. Biology.
I would like a career in politics. But not being an actual politician, that would be incredibly boring, more like analyzing polls and trends, the flow of public opinion, how propoganda influences the masses, what techniques change people’s minds the most, things like that. I would like to work in the actual people side of it, not the mechanics. If that makes any sense.
Otzi, you already know what i want to be… but no one else does. i want to be a forensic Pathologist. I want to go to Harvard. My backup career is to go to Juilliard (yes it is spelled like that) and become a famous Cellist.
Otzi would be a very… ummm… interesting president *ahem*
we had to act as people from the Government in Social Studies today. I was Alberto gonzales (blech) And otzi was an Arab American…
My careers rock…
hmmm, my nightmare invloves working as a forensic pathologist for the NYPD and getting death threats… other than that, the NYPD rocks. Just to let you guys know, Otzi lost the school election even though her speech was just as good as the person who won… maybe i shouldv’e been a better campaign manager than i was… the posters were a little sloppy and we used our budget for little flowers made of fabric and plastic… our budget was 5 dollars. you should vote for her.
*clears throat*
Em’s 10 options for her life after high-skool:
1. inheriting a lot of money or winning to lottery.
2. Becoming a homeless artist in France.
3. Living in some huge wild city in a little apartment with too many cats, and writing books.
4. Living in some junglish country nobody has ever heard of in a little hut and writing books.
5. With too many cats.
6. And maybe some dogs.
7. And an iguana. I’ve always wanted an iguana, by my parents think this is silly.
8. Anyways.
9. Writing under a pen name. I have one in mind: Em.
10. Yes, I know, Em is too bloody short. Well your names are too bloody long, so ha!
that is all. maybe i will send such books to ebeth, if she becomes an editor.
There are many posiblites, but with the type of thing I have, i’d best be a journalist like my sister. Or,if my sister accuses me of following her path so I could be like her, a Forensic Entimoligist. They’re very rare: I thgink it requires a lot fo training, but the job is cool. You get to work with Maggots
If not a jounalist or Forensic Entimologist, I could be a professional author, and have all my income come form the books I write.
But, all of those are really though jobs to get. I could be a Meterologist: I like nature, but working with animals with the dissabilites I have may not work.
Another good job for me would be what Montgomerygurl wants to be. I like studying trends: And I espceically like making and reading charts and graphs.
By the way: Don’t work for CNN: Communist News Network
some of my friends and i have talked about starting a knitting club. then we had this vision of ourselves as lols sitting on thinarom’s porch and knitting. and she would have about 50 cats who would sit all over us, except for this one who hated everyone.
Em (10),
I don’t think your name is too short. It’s just one letter shorter than Avi, and he is doing fine.
EM: Is the word “Scrumpdillylicious” wasn’t in my name, it would be shorter.
For me, I’m either getting me a nice home in the moutains in either Mid to Northern California or Washington ( go Beaux Arts Village! ) and I will proceed to write books or poety. As a main job though, something in computer programming, though I assume technology will have gone beyond normal computers by then.
Maybe climantology. Though I never had a head for science.
Actually, a nice desk-ish job at a publishing company sounds alright. Something like Muse! ^-^
i think im going to study forensic chem, or forensic bio if i actually find a college that offers it. if you major in one of those, you could get jobs in lots of other places, such as toxicology, epidemiology, etc
Ptolemy: As long as you don’t run against me….GO FOR IT!!!!
I just don’t want to run against a fellow muser.
I think my nightmare would be being impeached, or maybe having a smear campaign done against me. That would suck.
I want to save the planet. I’m not sure how yet. I was thinking of starting with a humantitarian aid sort of thing. Like joining something like MSF. I wouldn’t do MSF, because I don’t think being a doctor is my thing, but another organiztion similar to that. I think it’s very important to get the first world countries better connected with third world ones. Like, just the average citizens of countries should start making major and frequent contributions to more unfortuante ones. The governments are a different and much more complicated story, but I think average people all making contributions could make a difference. So I was thinking on working on a kind of project liike that. But it’s not a job, and I don’t know how I would get started or make money; plus I would also like to do things for the environment, seeing as theres not much point in saving the human race if we’re just gonna destroy the planet.
That was ridiculously long. Sorry.
I agree with you, skipper nancy, and if elected…
sorry. getting ahead of myself.
No! You’re not getting ahead of yourself… I’ll totally vote for you! I’ll probably need to know your name, but that shouldnt be to hard to figure out. I’ll just look for that candidate who looks like an insane genius as opposed to a bland old man.
thanks GAPA
I think it would be cool to write books under the name of Em, because it’s so short. People would see the title, and then “Em” and think “What the heck is Em?”
I will write a book…”My life with the Ko-konspiracy”. hmmmmmm….
Iguanas arent silly!
Em (21),
And then, “Isn’t she that Kansas farm lady from ‘The Wizard of Oz’?”
17-
Hmm… Otzi I think that if I ran oppisite of u that I would tell the world about your obbsetion of Chuck Norris. Now if I only Knew your name…
20-
I guess I would know who Otzi was. Unless I was the Bland Old Man. Then I would get Cello Girl to tell me all of her deepest secrets. But I doubt you would win, because it is still a very
sexistgenderly biased world.Editor. w00t, go me! Send me your books, authors.
Writing for muse would be totally flamablamablous. Maybe i’ll try to get a job there too.
Having a muser president? *shudders* frightening. And yet, an incredibly good idea. Operation Mostly Harmless commencing!!!
XD
i dont particularly want to in public office. i want to be a marine biologist, but since i cant swim i might just be another sort of biologist and dig into the government for polluting the world and global warming. ( are u sure u want to be president? Dearpresident bush has essentialy ruined the US. his successors will have a hard time cleanig up.)
Careers…hmm:
1. I’ve wanted to be a ME for a very long time. And work at the Body Farm in Quantico.
2. Chemical Engineering looks like fun. Besides, chem is my best subject, and I really like it!
3. Or I would want to do something wih Clinical Psychology or work for the BAU. I could never be a psychiatrist. I’d probably yell at the people…
4. And I most definately want to write dystopian fantasy books. As a side career. Em, that pen name thing was a good idea. Maybe I’ll use my MB name, too…
as my side career, I want to write books, do art, and have fun!
I wouldn’t be president for all the money in the world. I would hate having that much responsibility, that many people counting on me, the fate of the free world hanging on every word I say (okay, slight exaggeration). I couldn’t stand having everyone pick apart everything I did, call me nasty names, sling my family in the mud. In my opinion, anyone who actually wants that post is either insane, an idiot, incredibly power hungry, or a true American hero.
I d like to write, but i have an aversion to writing. or typing. all my stories are in my head and partially written down on my desk top. yes its a mess
Bush wanted to be president because his father was president. End of story.
Bush Stinks
Deepest secrets? I have done nothing to constitute a plausable smear campagn against me. Sorry. As I said before, I do not want to run against ptolemy.
Bush is funny. I like to laugh at him.
Bush and his whole administration should be impeached.
36-I agree, at least Bush. My friends and I have my whole class conviced.
30–makes sense to me
I don’t know what I want to be.
It is not totally Bush’s falt and GAPA if you dont mind me saying that this is turning into more of a Politics thread.
well, I’m going to college, no matter what. IamIamIam!
Probably. definitely.
I think that Bush made some bad descisions, and those caused bad things to happen, but he isn’t as bad a president as some other ones.
MuseBlog threads usually drift off topic sooner or later, but political rants make me yawn (or maybe it’s just the time of day). Let’s steer back toward Life after High School, please.
well…I’m going to High School next year…it’s a special school for the arts, and I’m going for creative writing
30-What the zark do you mean by the free world? You’re blowing me up. What free world? I didn’t notice one.
“I had some dreams, they were clouds in my coffee, clouds in my coffee…”
I plan to get out of college, get a job or something like it, then, five years later, go tour the world and have lots of crazy adventures. You’re only young once. I also don’t want to be an English major or go into anything literary. Not for me, thank you very much. And one day, I want to speak seven languages and have made a complete tour of Africa.
I want to go to medical school…gastroenterology!!!
I definately want to get a MD. And a PhD. I’ll be in school forever, but that will be fun!
30- I agree.
Would you guys help me in my plan to save the world? As soon as I come up with one?
I also want to be good at lots of things. Drawing, music, languages, writing, mathematics, rhetoric, logic, technology and programming, inventing, poetry. Da Vinci is my role model.
48-Da Vinci was a certified DIRP. At least I think so.
Someday I want to be able to sit in a cafe in Moscow and talk with a Brazilian in Sindarin.
Didn’t Douglass Adams say at some point that anyone who wants to be a ruler is therefore not suitable for the position?
After high school: I don’t really know; I want to be a musician, I think, but I don’t know if I want to go to Juilliard/Curtis/NEC/one of those places where all you focus on is music.. I’d also kind of like to get an education, and I also don’t know if I’d burn out halfway through.. I love music, though, I’ve been playing for 10 years, I think I’m fairly good, although I could be a lot better than I am, so I guess I’m going to say that’s what I want to do right now.. I also don’t know if I’d want to be an orchestra musician, do chamber music, be a teacher I doubt I could make it as a soloist… I don’t know.
I want to be an anthropologist REALLY bad.
I was always a social studies nerd, I guess.
Writing for TIME or Muse would be really cool, too.
I love manga, but this is America, Tokyopop is in Japan, I’d never have a chance.
Writing… hmmm, my friends have always told me that I’m good at poetry and writing in general. I wanna release a fantasy novel before I’m fourteen. Yeah, I like the pen name idea.
I used to want to be a marine biologist, but I know that I couldn’t take that much time out of doors. Singing. I’m an okay singer, but I don’t wanna be one of those floozies who gets married and gets divorced that weekend. I despise celebrities. Except for HiHiPuffyAmiYumi, not the cartoon, the actual group.
Trombone. I’m a first chair trombone player at my school, but I wouldn’t want to make it my life.
If we were interested in politics, all of us could actually make some pretty major reforms to the world. That would be cool. We’d have a Musely Utopia.
Maybe Da Vinci was a DIRP, but he was really good at a lot of things.
(23) hah. actually, there was an Ogg was named Auntie Em. meaning one of Nanny Ogg’s realtives.
My dad went to college for 10 years – at first he wanted to be a conductor, so he went to college for 4 years for that. Then, he decided he wanted to be a lawyer, so he went for 4 more years. Then, he went to law school for 2 years.
I have no desire to be the president, but if a Muser were running I’d vote for him or her for sure! I’d be happy to help with any plans for world domination. As for my future, I want to go to college in England, Ireland, or Prague. After college I want to live in London for at least few years.
For my career I want to start out as a journalist for a newspaper or, preferably, an interesting magazine. It’d be a dream come true to write for Muse! I plan to earn my living as a journalist at first but also work on writing books, probably sci-fi, fantasy, or historical fiction. If I become successful I’ll make writing books my full-time job. I also dream of traveling the world. I’d like to have the opportunity to travel a lot and see all kinds of different places all over the world. Of course, all of this is just speculation at the moment, but one thing I know for sure is that I want to have a lot of adventures in my lifetime – my nightmare would be to stay in one place in a boring job my whole life and never do anything worth remembering.
In reply to posts 1 and 2: It’s good to know there are aspiring historians around! My Roman history teacher was concerned for the future of classicists, I’ll have to tell her she doesn’t need to worry now.
This is a bit off-topic, but I was wondering, does Muse offer internships? I’m too young for now if it does, but I’d still like to know.
i want to do a double degree in acting and stage management and technical production when i finish school (this year…) but its a bit uncertain and very annoying cause u have to audition and stuff so theres no guarantee i’ll get in. also, as everyone reminds me, the jobs in theatre are slightly smaller than the demand. however a friend of mine and i have plans to reform the australian theatre industry…we will see…
#48: the enviro club im in is going to campaign to make our skool more environmentally friendly. does that count as trying to save the world? a bit?
I want to be an Egyptologist, but, that field has few job offers…
Mutt declared she wants to be a multi-tasker. heh. probably because you can’t make much off of eventing. ^^
58: sure. anything you can do counts, I guess.
I just went to a fund raiser for bringing cash to small communities in Niger, which is one of the poorest and least developed countries in the world. It was really fun actually; they had AWESOME drumming. I danced a little, but I hardly know any African dancing so mainly I bobbed my head.
I’d vote for any muser just as long as she/he wasn’t republican (sorry)
Actually, I might vote for a republican…it just depends on what his/her views and ideas are
58-Yea, verily, and forsooth.
50-“Anyone who is capable of getting themselves a presidency should, under no circumstances, be allowed to keep the position.” Can I be the Blog’s Official Adams Expert?
Republican conservatives scare me a little bit. All that dogma!
I would vote for a Muser first thing. MUSE magazine advising the leaders of the world would be awesome. But by that time I would have achieved galactic domination! MWAHAHAHAHA!
I’d vote for a muser as long as I agreed with their views.
I plan on going to college (Carleton or Macalester or somewhere else) and then pursue a career in (there are many options):
~Theatre
~Teaching gifted and talented students at a Spanish Immersion school
~Teaching
~Chemical engineering
~Biochemistry
~Mathematics
~Astrophysics
~Writing for Muse
~Architecture
With a side career in:
~Acting in community shows
~Directing community shows
~Writing fantasy and other books (I’d send them to Ebeth!)
~Writing plays
I don’t want to go to college in the United States. And I don’t want to go to Oxford, I want to go to the Pasteur Institute and study virology in Paris while going to awesome concerts occasionally. And clubs the rest of the time.
I’ll probably get certification for teaching, just to have something to fall back on…
I know that I could never get into a college not in America. Heck, I don’t think I could even get anything out of state. However, I’m but a wee sixth grader. I got time to extend my potential. My mom says that I should be a fashion designer, but that would go against everything I stand for.
Hm, same here – I have no idea whether I’ll actually get out of the state or not. I really do hope to study abroad someday, though. I have three more years to find a way, so hopefully it’ll work out somehow!
I think it would be really cool to study abroad, or do semester at sea
I’ve already said this, but I want to go ton Uni in Australia (I’m an Aussie citizen and have got a lot of family there). Or I want to got to the local University, where I can get in for real cheap/free and then spend my money on traveling.
My sister is going to study at Sciences Politiques in Paris next year. I think that’s really cool, so maybe I’ll try something like that.
where do you live right now?
bush is UGLY
36- i tottaly agree
mi best friend and i did a really funnt skit about bush. did you know that bush was a CHEERLEADER in high skool. actually it was the same high skool mi mom went to
Skipper Nancy- ever been to NZ? alll mi dads family lives there, and im a NZ citizen
I doubt I’ll attend any social activities [other than lectures] during college. I’m really not a “people-person.”
75…same
I’ll take all the classes I can in college and high school, then decide.
i’m going to study orca communication.
my plans for after high skool are
1. pool the $ ive saved from working w/ my friend + her friends $$, and buy a house downtown near the local college.
2. study there for 2 yrs
3. hopefully hav more $ after 2 yrs so i can transfer to another college (where another friend will be) and probably study more science.
4. actually, i havent thought past ^^ yet
i am so inc confused – skool-wise that is. i love musik, and i love science. the local college has a good music program, but not much science-wise. the college i want to transfer to after 2 yrs here has a great science program, but almost nothing music-wise. im going to hav to choose very soon. itll probably hav to be science, b/c theres a better chance of getting a well paying job. but then ill miss music so much. wow. life sux
I’m going to go to Harvard, then maybe somewhere else for law, then practice and earn a reputation, then go for city council, then governersip or senate, then presidency. it takes time.
I want to work in theatre and work with math and science.
Eccentric the Afterthought,
56: I asked Samantha about Muse internships. She reports that Muse doesn’t have an official internship program but Carus Publications does take interns from time to time :). They are usually college students, 18 and older, living in the Chicago area. Unfortunately, the internship doesn’t pay :(.
80- I’m going to go to Harvard to!
My friends say that they will name a dorm after me: The ******** Girls Dorm.
But I am a guy.
the stars represent my last name.
My dad went to Harvard for Law school. He also got into Yale, but he chose to go to Harvard
Hah. They say “Reach for the stars” and I’m taking it literally. VT, MIT, RPI… so many choices, so little time. But my SAT scores already qualify me for honors at VT, JMU, and UNCG. And I’ve still got a few years to bring them even higher!
82 – I don’t live in the Chicago area and I’m not over 18 or in college right now, but it’s nice to know since eventually I will be, and then it’d be an interesting internship even if it doesn’t pay. Thanks for the info!
85- I was also looking into MIT and RPI. Cornell would be completely amazing, too. The campus there is wonderful.
i want to do so many things its kinda scary:(some of these could be achieved during high school)
work for the peace corps/msf/similar organization
travel around the world with nothing but a backpack
epidemoligist
teacher
astrophysicist
teacher
archaeologist/forensic anthropologist/historian
be an exchange student
go to prauge and dance around in a plaza while wearing a purple skirt
how would you mime a mime?
translator
be fluent in seven+ languages
there more but i’ll shut up now.
I want to be a veterinarian. I’ve wanted to since at least 1st grade…
My sister’s going into music ed. She goes off to college at the start of the 06/07 school year. She’s not much of a Muser, though. For whatever bizarre reason, she likes the AmericanGirl magazine we get better.
My favourite magazine is Muse, then Cricket (I haven’t upgraded to Cicada yet, and I think my mom thinks I’m too old for Cricket, but I like it. It’s just too short.), and then the AG mag we get (it ranks much much much much much below Cricket in level of interest).
Otzi, go for it! We need a woman president! (Even my dad has said that he thinks it might do this country some good if a woman was elected, or something like that. And I’m pretty sure he said that if a woman ran, he’d vote for her, unless it’s Hillary Clinton, he wouldn’t vote for her.)
I hope I’m not the first.
why? that would be really cool!
gee, I haven’t been here in a while
93: because I want there to have been a woman president before I am old enough to run.
play guitar and sing in a metal band, get loads of money with a lame sellout hit, spend it all on guitars and die poor but happy among my gibsons, ibanezs, jacksons and all the other ones.
This thread needs to be revived.
I will own a large bank in a neutral European country, have a personal chef who will make me fudge, brownies, and cakes, and grow both rich and morbidly obese.
Just kidding. But it sounds like fun, yes?
My mother wants me to go to art school. How weird is that? Seriously, whose parents actually want them to go to art school? Weirdness.
Nope. I am either going to med school or into some school of engineering. Possibly architecture. Either way, I will choose a specialized field such as nanotech or neurosurgery and become the ultimate best at whatever I do. And become rich. And then hire that personal chef…
besides what I said in post 65, I’d write poetry. I also decided one day that everything is too expesive and I’d build a hut and write poetry and live there with a cat named Fred. You could all visit me.
I agree, this should be revived.
