  1. Part 2.

well….by the time we’re through with it, it won’t be rare at all!

  2. Interesting conversation you’ve got going there. But it’s already the ninth, and we’re only on Part 2. That’s a scary thought. On the other hand, I quite like ranbow Kokopelli. He looks quite the dashing gentleman. A little colour to his features quite becomes him.

  3. This is late for us, I think. What’s today? The 9th? Last month we had one by around the 5th, I think.

I just saw Supersize Me. The sad thing is, after watching all that stuff about McDonald’s, I have a horrible craving for a Big Mac. And haven’t wanted one of those since I was 6. Somehow, I don’t think that was the effect the movie was supposed to have on me.

  4. (319, Der Wachtelschlag Fliegender)… I always thought you were a grade/grades above me. Then again, when it comes to general knowledge of the world, it seems you are (I have to use Wiki for quite a few of the things you mention.. *hides face in shame* ). No, I wouldn’t say that post was polluting the thread. Quite a masterpiece, in fact, because it was both funny and angering (in that I was angered by the events of the story you told, not by you).

Ugh. 7th grade. 7th grade was awful. :( Much sympathy, though it doesn’t help much, does it.

  5. I wasn’t fond of 7th grade. It was completely useless. 8th grade rocked though.

  6. 5-Gentleman? Kokopelli? Only in the same way as Algernon Moncrieff…

7-Sorry. I’m not very good at getting other people to have any clue what I’m talking about. I even don’t, sometimes. No worries.

8-Good for you. I hated it. But I graduated from it, so there you have it.

I just drank an entire pint of Ting soda. It’s really good-all Jamaican and grapefruity at the same time. I have read Have Spacesuit, Will Travel, and I can honestly say I want to be Kip when I grow up.

  7. I just got a haircut. 2 and a half inches shorter!!! it’s okay, but my mom is still fawning over it. Ugh. Expect a whole barrage of newcomers today, because I’m having a party.

  8. I didn’t like 7th grade. But I would like to mention that I got 2 first posts yesterday. *rejoices*

And there’s no more school until the ende of August.

And I’m working on a painting in oils. Which I left outside overnight. I expect that I shall be spending the rest of the morning pulling out random fuzzy outdoor items from the paint with neele-nosed pliers. Aargh.

  12. *sigh* I’m going into seventh grade come August. You people sure do know how to make a girl feel optimistic. Last year was a lot of fun for me.

At two o’ clock today, I’m auditioning for my school’s musical. They’re calling it a “Seussical”. You can guess what it’s all about. Anyway, I’m predicting this is a pretty big deal if they’re having auditions in the summer . If it’s not, then gosh, why am I auditioning in the middle of my summer? I’m NOT going to wear a tacky costume and use a bunch of props pulled together at the last minute by our drama department AGAIN.

  15. Break a metatarsal bone, Gwen! And don’t worry about 7th grade. It depends on the skool. Some people say it’s their best year, some say it’s the worst. I’m sure you’ll manage to get through.

All these books! Everyone’s always talking about these books to read! I can’t handle it! I’m a slow reader. I like to read every sentance comletely and if I don’t think I understand it completely, I read the whole paragraph again. I can read moderately fast if I want to, but I don’t like to. But it means I can never keep up with the list of books to read!
(excepting easy reads like young adult comedy and fantasy, I can eat those up as fast as my speed reading friends)

  17. 20- search google for musical theatre international or MTI get to their main site then find Seussical. then click on characters. that should describe all the characters for you. Or this link if the GAPA doesn’t zap it: http://www.mtishows.com/show_casting.asp?ID=000229 My JCC is doing Little Shop of Horrors for the senior high show and, you guessed it, Seussical for the junior high show this coming school year.

  20. i think people go through a lot of psychological changes in 7th grade – thats probably why so many ppl hate/hated being that age.

#12: schweet. wish i could paint.
#19: hey, that might be my skools musical this year too! good luck!

mrahr. i hurt. from being on my feet lifting fudge boxes for 8 hours today.
…ha…ok, so my boss found out that i was vegetarian today, and he literally spent the entire morning needling me about it (“hey, ive got a craving for a carrot right now – why dont you run out + get me one?”…”hey, i bet emogrl goes through the drive-through @ bk + asks for an onion!”…). well, his sister was working this morning too, and she decided to go to bk + get all of us gardenburgers…+ she made him eat one…ah yes, the revenge was sweet.

3 more 1/2 days and then freedom! w00t! the ap lang exam yesterday was…just relly sad. we had to do an in depth self-defining project, and i swear the whole class sobbed through the entire 3 hours. i mean, people were saying things that they definitely wouldnt normally tell other people. and a few people that seemed to have absolutely perfect lives (+ i kind of despised them for that) – well, it turns out that i was way wrong about that. i feel bad now, for thinking that they did.
i did a poem – it basically focuses on all of the questions ive accumulated over almost 17 yrs – and ok, i still think its the sappiest thing ive ever written – after i had read it, i was expecting a few “well, at least she didnt start cutting herself while she was up there reading,” and maybe several crickets chirping – but ppl actually liked it! but i sincerely hope no one cried over it… here it is. enjoy the cliche-ness.

    Seventeen Years of Questions

    (6) Why does the World control
    (4) The way one acts,
    (9) Confining us here, blocking all roads out?
    (6) Why are we so afraid
    (4) To disobey
    (9) Its demands for “order” and “routine?”
    (6) Why have I now begun
    (4) To slowly drift
    (9) Away from Its rulings and beliefs?

    (11) Why am I fading out of the life I’ve known?
    (11) Why am I at such a loss on how to act?
    (11) Why am I falling apart, under pressure?
    (11) Why am I seeing new roads ahead of me?

    (12) Will I be allowed to venture down this way, or
    (5) Will I be held back?
    (12) Will I be the only one straying away from
    (5) The well-traveled path?

    Why does the World control
    The way one acts,
Confining us here, blocking all roads out?
    Why are we so afraid
    To disobey
Its demands for “order” and “routine?”
    Why have I decided
    To not listen
When It tries to tell me how to be?

Why have I started asserting my beliefs?
Why does no one understand what I say now?
Why do I feel miles away from my best friends?
Why don’t I forfeit and go back to Routine?

Will I be ran over on this road as well?
    Or will I go far?
Will I ever find what I’m looking for here –
    Far from the World’s rules?
    Why does the World control
    The way one acts,
Confining us here, blocking all roads out?
    Why are we so afraid
    To disobey
Its demands for “order” and “routine?”
    Why do I remember,
    Almost with shame,
That It used to have control over me?

Why did I let the World choose my path for me?
Why did I not have any true dreams or ambitions?
    Why couldn’t I distinguish what I wanted?
Why did I let myself get lost in the crowd?

Will I remember the dreams I have now, or
    Will they soon be gone?
Will I be able to finish my dreaming soon,
    And know what to do?

    Why does the World control
    The way one acts,
Confining us here, blocking all roads out?
    Why are we so afraid
    To disobey
Its demands for “order” and “routine?”
    Why have I just realized
    We live but once,
And we each choose which path we will take?

I’m treating each day as if it were my last
    I’m making a dif’rence wherever I can
I’m thanking the friends who have been there for me
I’m choosing a path that I will not regret

I’ll remember to follow my intuition,
    Instead of “the crowd”
And soon I’ll find the freedom I’ve been looking for –
    For seventeen years…

    …Knowing we each decide
    How we will act
But we’re influenced by others’ thoughts
    We can either: decide
    To let these thoughts
Determine where our lives will lead us,
    Or we can attempt, since
    We only live once,
To follow our dreams down our own paths

  21. While on the subject of books, having just finished yet another wodehouse (Bachelors Anonymous), i rushed myself over to the library before they closed (And am happy to report i made the entire trip in 20 min, there, back, and finding books, for which i thank my dear bike-a happy accomplishment indeed, seeing as how i left half an hour before they close) and…and…and…*the suspense builds* found, mine GAPA, Have Space Suit-Will Travel by our dear friend heinlein. I got that, and another of his whose name escapes me (I got it cuz it had The Smell. You know how it is when you find a book with The Smell), as well as two more wodehouse. Although i forgot their names too. In my hurry i just grabbed the nearest two i hadn’t read. One was about Blandings, i remember that much. Sunshine on Blandings or something like that.

So now i’m gonna go hole myself up in my lovely hobbit-hole and read.

Tomorrow’s graduation. Band’s playing. Yes, pomp and circumstance *sigh* What else? Anyway, the freshies are joining us and it’s all going to be very happy, if by happy you mean long, boring, soporific, and painful. Except for seeing the few seniors i know, that is. But having just moved last year, that’s pretty much just the band seniors.

And schneids issued a specific warning against trumpet fanfares when friends’ names were called. We were all like “awwww” Somebody did that last year though. I wasn’t there, i didn’t see it. Sad day, for me anyway.

World Cup’s started too. Dad’s been watching nonstop-i usually just come in for the last half, or sometimes the last 15 minutes. Did anybody see the Sweden/T&T game though? That was pretty amazing.

  23. Ah, thank you Musers who wished me luck and to break my leg bones. The people who judged the auditions were super surprised. I was the smart, quiet, little kid for most of the year, so they were shocked to hear me sing the way I did. Hopefully, they were impressed. They weren’t as surprised to hear my cold reading, though. My core is drama (I go to an arts school, in case you didn’t already know). Found out who Lazy Mayzie is! She was one of the characters I had to cold read. All I had to do was read an excerpt from the Horton the Elephant book. Relatively easy.

Well, enough of my yammering. Anyone got anything to talk about, preferrably involving muffins?

    (36) We had a silly school band concert last week. I don’t know why our music teacher even tries. He gets absolutely no respect from any kid older than nine. When he tells us to be quiet, it takes a full minute for us to quiet down. The guys all have insulting names for him. Even my mother says that he’s kind of whiny.

it was an okay concert. The best part was at the end, when some guys from eighth grade who are a band (named Mello Jello) played a couple of songs. They were infinitely better than the 6th, 7th and 8th grade bands. I loved it. We eighth graders who are their friends were crowding really close to the makeshift stage and clapping and shrieking like they were [insert name of popular band here]. It was like, Those are our people. They’re .

I organized my bbok shelf today. Quite exciting. Even alphabatized it, from Adams to Wyndam. Speaking of which, who here like Wyndam? I’m reading The Kraken Wakes. Well, I was, but then I got distracted by Mostly Harmless, and then Emma, and then a few other things, but I should be back on track at some point.

  49. I am about two miles away from the library. I am training my shoulder blades to withstand extreme stress such as that caused by hanging 30 pounds of ink and paper off them.

My bookshelf used to be in no particular order, but my mom decided to do something about that one day. Now all my books have little tapes on them that say the first two letters of the author’s last name on them, and they are alphbetized by that.

I have most of the Redwall series and those are organized by color. Sometimes, I put books together if their stories kind of transition to each other. And I don’t put books that I really like next to books that I don’t especially like. I’d NEVER put “The Golden Compass” next to “Freaky Friday”. It just seems…wrong. Yeah, I’m a psycho order person.

I have piles of books that I’ve recently read on the floor. A few years ago, we bought new bookshelves to hold all the books we have. I have 2.5 big magazine holders full of Muse. I’ve been getting my beloved Muse since ’99.

  53. So you know, I have a mild case of synthesia, and whenever I am reading or doing something and listening to a song over and over, the song becomes connected to the thing. Like, Catherine Russell’s “Memories” reminds me of Molly Moon Stops The World, and Ashlee Simpson’s “Boyfriend” reminds me of House of the Scorpion. So now, Aqua’s “Happy Boys and Girls” reaminds me of Museblog.

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  54. And that happens even if the song has nothing whatsoever to do with what I’m doing. You envy me, right?

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  56. Actually, I don’t envy you, funnily enough. I get songs stuck in my head WAY to easily. But I like thinking of uses for songs. For example, the song “I’ll be missing you” (which I LOVE!!!) is great for when you go on trips and fall in love wityh hot foriegn boys and then have to leave. (Not thatr this has ever happened to me…)

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  57. Kiki- Really? That’s synesthesia? Well, in that case, I have it too. I always thought that was normal, to have songs and events linked in your mind. Although for me, the connections don’t have to be something I was doing at the time; they can be random things that were going through my head. Like…”When I Grow Up” by Garbage reminds me of smoke machines, bubble machines, and tables. Only wood ones, though, not the nasty plasticky plywood kind. And they’re square.

  58. (77),

That’s not synesthesia. Getting songs stuck in your head and associating them with particular memories or activities isn’t unusual at all. We’d all love to be synesthetes, but very few people actually are.

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  59. 71- But if you know where all of your stuff is, it’s all goode and you don’t have to be neat.

I hate getting annoying songs in my head. Like one day, I went around singing Manson’s “Personal Jesus” for hours because it was driving me mad. The other day I was singing “I Feel Love,” by Blue Man Group featuring Venus Hum for hours on ende, too. But at least I wasn’t quoting random books or TV shows at people. I do that a lot. And talk about fictional characters as if I know them. Which I do.

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  60. I’d hate being a synesthete. I really, really, would. And Otzi (76) it does suck. Trust me on this, it happens both directions to me.

I’m flying to Belgium in a week to catch up with my friend Robin. He’s started a Holistic Detective Agency, and he wants me to come and decorate his office. I’m only too glad. I like Belgium, I like Robin, and I like the idea of extra time away from my parents and with my friends. Also, my favorite band Snix will be in town and Robin promised to take me to a concert. You see, Robin and I have nasty habits of finishing each other’s sentences, getting each other identical gifts (Tintin-print underwear, Wodehouse anthologies, etc.) and I help him with his English and he helps me with my abysmal German and my okay French. Both of which will get an extreme workout-his biz partner, a Plush Carpet, is unilingual in German. Also, my parents really like Robin as long as I send them lots of Euro cooking gear home. Plus, I can fit into his Doc Martens and his jeans (rolled up), and they’re reaaaaaallly cool. I bring this up only because I have no one else to tell it to-my friends would tease me unmercifully.

My CDs are alphabetical by artist, but oddly. The Clash are next to Cave-In, but the Rolling Stones are next to Steely Dan.

    Pie 0

  61. 59-Wodehouse’s books are light, English comedies on the upper class. They’re completely hilarious, witty, and filled with classical allusions (to Shakespeare, Shelley, 1930s film, the Bible, etc.) and glorious mishaps. In Laughing Gas, for example, the hero leans over to plant a delicate kiss on the neck of his betrothed, forgetting the fact he has a lighted cigar in his mouth. In Thank You, Jeeves, a character has to black his face with boot polish, and then finds he cannot remove it because someone has taken all the butter in the house to make a butter slide. They’re funny, light reads-I would reccomend a book with ‘Jeeves’ in the title for a start, and remember, except for all the weird Brit slang (“stewed to the gills, Basilton-Basilton poked him in the snoot”) they are easy reads that take me about half an hour tops.

Here’s what you do. Every two weeks or so, I’ll post a prompt for you to write from. You start writing whatever you feel like that relates to that prompt. When you’re done, post it with “Reply to Penty’s Writing Contest #[whichever number this happens to be. For example, the first entry would be #1, then #2, etc.] in the “Name” line. If you post your normal username, I’ll know who you are, and you will be disqualified. I’ll pick a winner and announce the winning number. Then, the person who wrote that entry will step up and claim their prize. (So it’s only virtual brownies and a shiny trophy. Sue me.) Please, this is a contest based on trust. Don’t say you wrote an entry that you didn’t write. I will be sad, the real author will be sad, and you will have a shiny trophy you don’t know what to do with.

i know i gave out my xanga here about a month ago...is someone here who lives in CA visiting it a lot? no, im not stalking ppl (for reals, ppls!); a few weeks ago the xanga admins installed trackers in all of the weblogs, but you can only track ppl who have signed in. and ive been averaging 3 hits per day from somewhere in CA.
    - and if it is one of you, ur welcome to look @ it anytime, but just tell me so i wont be freaked out anymore

and another thing: ive also been getting a mystery visitor from ohio almost every day, and i just want to know if that is also one of you guys...b/c theres a certain person i know who lives in ohio (+ shes friends w/ some of my friends who have xangas so she could easily track mine down) that i do not wish to associate with ever again in my entire life, and if it turns out shes snooping, i am going to make sure she regrets it...not kidding here.

  90. I went to a theme park today with my entire eighth grade. There were about 20 other school buses in the parking lot, and we were waiting to get in the park for at least half an hour. The people there were almost as interesting as the rides, but looked considerably scarier.

I got sunburned. As did the rest of the grade. Owch. At least I was wearing my baseball hat all day, with the brim properly facing forwards to shade my face with lack of any style whatsoever.

On the way back from the theme park, the boys were put on one bus and the girls on another. Boooring. But anyway, the girls were sitting in two groups: popular girls and me, at the front of the bus, and everyone else, at the back of the bus. There were several empty rows of seats in between. Team Everyone Else started shouting things at us, so we shouted things back, like lines from a Black Eyed Peas song, phrases like “Your mom” (I hate that expression), and other random things like, “Blahblahblahblah!” I think we won. After a while, the bus driver told us that we were directly entertaining the boys’ bus, and indicated that his intercom speaker had been on.

It hadn’t been; I asked a boy later. I was disappointed. I think the boys should know what they’re in for.

I live at 7200 feet, on the outskirts of a rinky-dink little town on the west-south-west section of wyoming. I think a town like Jackson Hole Wyoming or Rock Springs is huge. All I’ve seen of the East Coast is an airport terminal transfering to a flight to Europe, four times. I ride six hours aday in summer, nine hours a day of skiing on weekends and holidays in the winter, and spend the rest of my time on the comp or sitting in a desk at skool and I read till two in the morning on skool nights, till I fall asleep on weekend nights, or, if I’m tired, I sleep from six pm to ten am, I lie awake at night devising pranks or I travel to the land of the most recent book or play or some interwoven mesh of everything. I terrorize the little sixies at skool with big words like it’s inanimate instead of littler phrashes like it is imobile or even simpler it is unable to move. I am the shyest kid in skool but can sometimes talk about stupid issues like my favorite book at the moment for hours. I am constantly proving myself better educated about things like grammar, spelling, math, words, and reading than my best friend but still manage to avoid know it all status by adveraging Cs and low Bs.

in short, I lead an interesting life.

Lessee, well Montgomerygurl left, because she didn’t feel comfortable on the Museblog anymore, and the Pie Wars progressed (I believe you participated in the very early part of the first one and were on the Neutrals side). We eliminated individual birthday threads, because they were clogging the blog, and… yeah.

My dad just showed me something really cool! Recent research shows that after a certain age (around 30ish I think) people loose the ability to hear super high frequencies. Using this fact, companies have started to market devices that emit really high pitches that only young people can hear. Some upper-class yuppy stores use them to keep teenagers from loitering around there stores (because the high pitched noise is really unpleasant, but older customers won’t hear it)
and other companies sell it as a ringtone that kids can have so their teachers won’t know that their cell phone is goin off in class! Crazy eh?

To hear the ring tone, go to the NY times website, search “ring tones”. The name of the article is “A ringtone meant to fall on deaf ears”
There’s a link in the margin that will take you a player that will play the high pitched noise.
(this is the link to the player, not the news article, but I’m guessing it will be zapped- http://graphics.nytimes.com/packages/audio/nyregion/20060610_RINGTONE.mp3)

[Oh, what the heck. It’s the New York Times, and it’s interesting. –Robert.]

Ebeth is BACK! w00t! Dad and i went to GR. Got there mediumish late (around 8), went down to racheal’s house and watched pink panther. Next day, was at rach’s again, watched another pink panther (because the pink panther pwns. :D ) and wandered aimlessly around the neighborhood. Sam+Jen were both gone, but harriet was around (You oldies remember the Gospel of Spamabix? Anyone? This is harriet the author). So we went to the pool which is like dying btw. Mr. Scheer came up and he and dad talked for ages and ages about it (dad used to be on the board, mr. scheer still is) and i think they’re gonna just drop the membership price way down and hope they get some n00bs cuz everybody’s been dropping out. When we went there was hardly anybody. A few of the Scheers left just as we came, and then it was me, harriet, dad, some small child named eric, and his dad. We played some pool basketball (fouling legal of course) then they left and another small child named katie came with her dad. Following the tradition of small children at the pool throughout the ages, she accosted us like so…

    Katie: *swims up and STARES*

    Me: …Ello
    Katie: Hi. My name’s Katie.
    *silence*
    Katie: Who are you?
    Me: Elizabeth *****
    Katie: Hi
    Me: …Hi
Katie: *turns to harriet* Who are you?
    Harriet: Harriet *********
    …..
Katie: *gesturing behind* That’s my dad.
    Me: Ah.
Katie’s dad: *swims up* *beams* Hi!
    Harriet: Hi
Katie’s dad: Come on katie, let’s go catch some sharks!
*Harriet and i stare at each other, duck underwater, and CRACK UP!*

This was even more funny because this happens to us ALL THE TIME. We seem to be small child-magnets. Why, i ask myself, do they not go to those who actually like them, and are comfortable with them, and babysit them, and talk to them? Why us? But that’s how it goes.

  142. 200-More than you can possibly imagine. To be more specific, it’s by a lake, and camp is “rustic”, so we live in our cabins, which have no electricity or running water. We have 1 bathroom for the whole camp (but it has 20 toilets, so that’s OK), but this year should be lots of fun, because it’s the camp’s 100th Anniversary Celebration and not only does everyone get to eat more than is really reccomended, but we have special pins and things and this year, five of my best friends are counselors-in-training, and it means that we get to stay up late at nights, and hopefully some other perks as well. Last year we arranged the Initiation Ceremony, where flaming arrows are supposed to be shot over the tribe. We couldn’t get the arrows they gave us to light, so we ended up using tampons (my idea) and after the ceremony we did nothing but laugh for twenty minutes, because it was such a serious occasion and lighted sanitary napkins were being flung over the heads of the whole tribe. Oh, it was funny. That was probably more than you wanted to know.

202-Want some virtual pad thai? Did you have a bad day or something?

I’m going to paint my room octarine, with blue stripes.

    WARNING- MAJOR RANTAGE AHEAD

I am sick of being a toy. Thats what people like me are. We are G-ds little toys. He plays with our minds and our hearts, and so does the earthly humans. And they have FUN.

Today, I got this close |………….| to kissing an eight grader. However, some sort of force feild came between my lips and his cheek, and I didn’t. Now, keep in mind that this is the last day I’ll ever see him again. Divine Intervention.

Its devine intervetion that people like us exist. Me, him, the rest of my classmates. G-d plays with our minds like a little 3 year old plays with a toy truck. He takes pleasure in watching us suffer, watching us act like adults at 13, watching us just plain not fit in.

Now, I hope I don’t sound blasphumous, I know there are mormons on this board. However, its time to face the truth: People like us just plain shouldn’t exist.

If you don’t believe that god is thwarting you, you probably won’t feel that he is, if that makes sense. Be in charge, You can only go up, right? Here’s my advice: find something besides guys. Guys are fine, if they are nice, but seriously? You’ve got better stuff to be worrying about. Take up… tennis, and everytime you wack the ball, you can imagine it’s the planet. Or whatever. Just get out an do something that keeps your frusteration from taking over your life.

218-The two songs in that musical not written by Pete Townshend are the most inappropriate. Have fun!

230-Not really. Money is something you can get more of, and money over everything gives people some measure of control.

I am miserable. I missed the last day of school and a beach party that my best guy friend invited me to because I had to go to this stupid wedding that is seven hours away in a stifling hot state.

Every person there was over sixty years old, and every single one of them came up to us and said to my brother and I, “Do you remember me from the obscure occasion involving multitudes of unknown relatives that occurred at least five years ago? You’ve grown so much, you’re so pretty/handsome, nice to see you, etc, etc, etc.”

I mostly sat by the duck pond and sulked. I had one year in this school. I made friends. Now I’m going somewhere else for high school, and neither of my friends are going there. I wanted to be with everyone for just a little longer, and guess what? Of course I can’t.

Whenever I really want something that is actually quite simple, I can’t have it.

Sorry. I feel like complaining. My parents are tired of listening to me whine, so I ‘m just going to rant and rant where they can’t hear me. I’m furious when I’m not miserable.

  184. I have returned from England! It was awesome. I just finished hanging up the map of England I got from the British Museum. The British Museum (I am NOT going to abbreviate that) was one of the coolest things ever! They actually had a moai statue, which I can’t believe they took, but I got my picture taken with it. With a disposable camera, because the digital camera had accidentally been left at the hotel that day. So I can’t post the picture on here. Maybe if I scan it into the computer, but I don’t know how and my printer doesn’t do that. I could probably have someone do it at their house then email it to me! Let me check!

My friend says he can do it. Now I have to get the film developed.

Anyway, there’s been a small addition to my numismatic collection. In case y’all didn’t know, I’m a numismatist. One of the few things from England requested from me by my friends was a complete set of British coins for a certain Makhlook. (This after I told him I was NOT going to get him fifty pounds.) It’s okay though, I still have a reasonable amount of coins to keep.

I will get that film developed post-haste. Then I will use some sort of coding to get it on here. Groovy. See y’all on the flip side.

262- The British Museum? I am exceedingly jealous. You could always just take a picture of the picture with a digital camera and then upload it. I do that when I’m too lazy to get out my scanner. The quality isn’t as goode, though…

  187. 236-You can’t control your life. That’s like reincarnating the Ultimate Spinach and expecting them to work together with Every Mother’s Son and the Monkees.

255-At least you have family. I have two grandparents, one who understands and can speak English but only will talk in German, and my grandmother collects linen tea towels with maps on them. I also have an uncle, who has a bridge parlor, a dog, and a partner named Alan who goes around as a guy during the day and a woman at night. “Alanna,” or so you think. Oh, they also have a dog who is huge, enormous

256-Other way around. Most of my friends I see at camp, and then we talk by pictophone, IM, email, etc. the rest of the year.

262-More than one moai piece, actually. If you go to the very back rooms of that exhibit you’ll find them. They had a collection of pop-protest pins and such that I thought were interesting. The ‘no coat hangers’ one is actually pro-choice. And some of the Babylonian pieces are astounding. Did you go to the Attic? I call it the Attic, but it’s the Edward-Victoria museum that feels more like someone’s attic than a museum. It’s got one of those huge, colorful, hanging glass sculptures made by that artist in Seattle. I went to his studio for a dinner once. He does the ‘Wodehouse Wall’-hanging things up on a wall, moving them up as he works on them and then, when they’re at the top, pulling them off. I’d love to see the picture.

Would Peter, Paul and Mary have had a chance as Melvin, Seymour and Shirley? Why are they so manufactured? What made the Monkees come into fashion, and what stroke of fate made David Jones decide on the Bowie appellation to distinguish himself from the Monkee? I wish I had a time machine and could return to the sixties.

  198. (278),

It’s about a butterfly, not a dragonfly, but you might enjoy this poem by Robert Graves:

    FLYING CROOKED

    The butterfly, the cabbage white,
    (His honest idiocy of flight)
Will never now, it is too late,
Master the art of flying straight,
Yet has–who knows so well as I?–
A just sense of how not to fly:

  199. “We are the knights who say NEAT!! NEAT!! NEAT!!”

(Inspired by my mum and Willie McCool, who say “neat” all the time. I hate the word “neat”, thus I would be one of the villigers in the film who cower at the word. Though I had fun going around my gradnparents’ nursing home saying this at 22:30.)

  201. My artist friend Rebecca Lasley (creator of the hypnotic bunnies) is in town. Today we went to the Kennedy Center to see the Kirov Ballet perform “Giselle.” We had front-row seats. I’d never been so close to dancers and could see most of what the orchestra was up to, too. Fascinating. Fleur Delacour was not in evidence, however.

“Giselle”? Ballet? Cool. Never heard of Giselle, and I’ve never seen a ballet, but they both seem excellent.

  211. (287) Well, san is an all around term, and is not particularly emphatic; basically anyone could be san.If you meet someone on the street whose surname is Kobayashi and given name is Kensuke, you would address him as Kobayashi-san, not Kenuske. To the Japanese, it is a sign of closeness to address someone by their given name, and to do so without permission is seen as forward and disrespectful.

However, chan is generally used for young girls in an endearing way; if it is used for anyone else it is usually derogatory or meant to be funny. Example: if your brother Nobu of fourteen years is getting on your nerves, you would call him Nobu-chan.

Understand there is a plethora of Japanese honorifics used, not just san as most Americans seemt o believe. A few would be sama, kun, sensei, senpai, etc. My favorite is the lesser known “kohai” which describe a sort of “middle classmen” whereas senpai is “upper classmen”

I hope that made sense. Ask me to clarify if it didn’t. :3

  214. Robert Graves? GAPA, I leave you alone for one day so that I can work and already, already you are treating us to Robert Graves? What is this place? Do I need to get you a nanny or something? Better yet, shall I book a brain specialist and cut you off virtual chocolate?

I had to spend today assembling RSID kits and listening to Patti Smith. As if this weren’t bad enough, I have realized that I need to take extra toothbrushes to camp because I go through the things so fast and the camp can’t sell me the ones I need for my headgear. The bristles have to be shaped so that they aren’t cut into dust by my braces, wires, chapers, guards, and chains. That sounds like a torture chamber. I have been on the phone, and hold, all day with the ortho. company, trying to place an order.

If kissing a person who smokes is like licking an ashtray, is kissing a person who has braces like sticking your tongue in a wire fence? This does not sound good.

300-My fleet of computers is bedecked with eight cooling fans. They hum.

  215. I have braces. I kiss my girlfriend. I have heard nothing of the sort. Refrain from making comments about braces, because I hate them with the white-hot intensity of a thousand suns.

Speaking of bunnies, when I was at the airport the other day waiting for the flight to arrive, I happened to come across a small and amusing book in the bookstore, and its sequel. I read them both in about seven minutes. I highly recommend them. “The Book of Bunny Suicides” and “Return of the Bunny Suicides.” They’re little cartoons showing bunnies….well…..you get the idea. One of my favorites is the bunny pouring pepper on Sauron’s eye from LOTR.

I expect that entire paragraph to be deleted.

today has been very relaxing. i woke up like…4 hours ago? ha. summer is my season for hibernation. then i folded a bunch of laundry, wrote a new song on my wall, decided to fix a shirt i had decorated thats faded a bit, found out that we have no paint pens, got mad, and finally started on another shirt. this ones made out of a skirt i found in a storage closet – its going to be very…summer-y.

ok, so has anyone noticed how much we use the term random here? we do. a lot. in fact, it seems to me that its the most overused term in this blog. so…ive taken the liberty to look up a few synonyms for it.

accidental, adventitious, aimless, arbitrary, casual, chance, contingent, designless, desultory, driftless, fluky, fortuitous, hit-or-miss*, incidental, indiscriminate, irregular, objectless, odd, promiscuous, purposeless, slapdash*, spot, stray, unaimed, unconsidered, unplanned, unpremeditated

    unpremeditated?? ha. i like it.

I am now going to address everyone on the blog with Japanese honorifics at the ends of their names! (I already call myself Penty-chan, but that was A-C’s fault.)

301- Yes, it does sound like a torture chamber. all you need is some type of ortho treatment called “comfy chair” and it would be complete.
