The Feather cookies are making me hungry though…nomomomI have a question I hope someone here can answer. I have been thinking about taking up beading as a hobby, but I’m afraid it might get somewhat expensive. Does anyone bead and have some tips?

in November 17th, 2009 @ 21:27findings are the most expensive as you have to buy them new (findings being earwires, clasps, bead stringing wire (soft-flex is the best) etc.) I’d go to garage/estate sales and buy old jewelry to take apart to stock up on beads. Michael’s has big containers of lots of beads.

in November 17th, 2009 @ 21:47I just saw this post. What’s wrong with me? I bead somewhat obsessively in my very limited free time. (was that a bit of an oxymoron?) I’d like to add crimp beads, clasps, spacers, and these things I forgot the name of and I will find for you, (eventually) to the list. I wait for the coupons that come with the Sunday paper, save them up, and go nuts once in a while to get all the nice glass beads. Craft store coupons come in handy…

in November 27th, 2009 @ 14:54AH! I love beading! I haven’t had time though… All of my free time is spent cleaning my room, which looks like a war zone. I love working on bead looms. I made a lot of money selling cell phone charms last summer. A LOT.
It’s fun to do, Axa, and buying beads online is a lot cheaper. Do a google search of beads and click on the first link, that’s where I get a lot of my supplies.

1- I bead and although it could get expensive one can avoid spending too much money on beads. Some tips:
Only buy beads of one color in bulk if you’re sure that you’re going to be beading for a while. They’re awfully expensive.
Set aside at least $25 (USD) for a “starter set” which should include:
A black velvet beading tray with little spaces for beads.
Several basic colors of beads.
.2mm and .6mm clear plastic string in both elastic and non-elastic varieties.
A bunch of little bracelet/necklace fasteners and various other wire doodads including earring starts and pendant fasteners.
And lots of wire.
Then every month you can spend about $4 on beads, if you’re serious about it. I’m not.Also, in a lot of cities there are small art shops that sell beads by the scoop- there’s a wonderful one in San Gabriel, CA near the car servicing station on that street with all the fancy shops where the bakery opened in July… but anyway, scoops for under $2.00 of glass beads are good. I love those shops, when I find them I always end up buying ten scoops of pendants, glass, and wooden beads, and of course little wire thingies and those cute little glass and plastic shaped beads.

Apparently my two allnighters are still wreaking their havoc on my stomach–I’ve been starving to death the past two days, basically no matter how much I eat. Huh, sounds kinda like how the summer was.Off to eat something before class…..

in November 13th, 2009 @ 11:12Disneyland, I believe, is the one in California. Disneyworld is in Florida–I’ve been there twice, now. Once when I was so little all I really remember is falling asleep in a stroller during a parade, and then later watching the fireworks at the Magic Kingdom with Tinkerbell, and shoving my fingers in my ears because it was loud, and having my aunt pull my fingers out of my ears…..
And then, of course, we went when I was 15, as well, got a 7 day pass to go to all the different parks there, but the main highlight of that trip, for me, was actually getting HBP, and not so much the Disney……Although, still, Disney was tons of fun, too, despite the heat and arguing.

in November 13th, 2009 @ 11:16So, y’all know how I pulled two consecutive all-nighters (well, almost all-nighters) Tuesday and Wednesday night. Apparently my subconscious brain was so mad at me (and in wont of sleep), that it decided to reset my alarm this morning, to give me 4 extra hours of sleep.
Fortunately, I’ve been setting two alarms, since I started sleeping with earplugs (my roomie is noisy), as I’ve been worried I might not hear the first one.
So, last night I set my alarm for 7:30, about an hour before I needed to leave for class (an hour and ten, if I pushed leaving back to the absolute latest). My phone I set for 7:40. This morning, I”m awoken by my phone going off, I sit up, grab it, staring at it blankly thinking: What? Why didn’t my alarm go off?
Still half asleep, my brain began to tell me “Oh, crap, you set your phone for the wrong time, you don’t have to get up until 9:30 today [apparently my brain was under the impression it was Thursday].” I was halfway through resetting my phone, when my brain started to wake up more, and realized that, no, today was indeed a MWF, and I did indeed need to be up, at which point the question became: “WHy the heck didn’t my alarm clock go off?”
After all, last night, I only checked to make sure it was set (and set for 7:30), upwards of half a dozen times. So, I looked at my alarm. It was set for 11:30–definitely not what I set it for last night, as, like I said, I checked numerous times.
So, yeah, apparently while I was asleep, I reset my alarm….I guess when you subconscious controls your sleeping body to give you 4 more hours of sleep, that’s probably a pretty good indication that you need more sleep? (And shouldn’t’ve pulled two consecutive more-or-less all-nighters…….)
Like I said, good thing I had my phone set, too……Otherwise I would’ve missed chem and genetics. Of course, chem lecture gets posted online, and genetics it’s not like anybody gets much out of it, except for getting a copy of his power point, which I oculd’ve printed, but….still.

I really, really want to go back, but it would be too expensive, so I’m making do by reading travel guides, listening to fan podcasts, drawing up speculative trip itnereries and generally becoming more knowledgeable about Disney lore.

Zinc, I went to Disneyland ( Cali ) when I was in….fourth grade? Summer after fourth? Four summers ago, anyway. I rode that coaster, what was it, in, like, Adventureland or something? It had something to do with the gold rush, I think. Anyway, it was great, but since I always made my dad ride on the outside he nearly got whiplash.

Before LCROSS, it was “KaiYves- Let’s Kick Up Some Moon Dust!” to indicate my support for the mission, from the night of the impact (October 9th), to this afternoon, it was “KaiYves- Got Water?”, as a joke on the “Got Milk?” commercials and the central question of if there was water detected after the impact. Now we know, so it’s “KaiYves- Water? YES!”
And it will stay like that until I decide to change it for some other reason.

in November 13th, 2009 @ 16:43Happy Friday the Thirteenth, everyone! Nothing unlucky happened today. My friend has the swine flu, though: NOT fun for her. Going to a “Yahtzee party” tomorrow. Yahtzee is this really old tradition from when my mom was single and was in the ____ Chorus. She and all of her friends would get together and play Yahtzee. So now we still get together four times a year and play Yahtzee. It’s very fun.

Like there was a picture of ice cream, that was actually mashed potatoes. It was talking about the tricks of making food look good and like food on camera……That was a fun article.

I was browsing through old art work to put a portfolio together and remembered that Robert had mentioned something about preferring thicker chocolates. I was still a Photoshop neophyte, and that was as thick as I could get them with the technique I figured out at the time, but I’ve learned a few tricks since February 2007….

I don’t know who decides on the thread names, though I’d assume it’s something agreed on by all the GAPAs, and then Rebecca steps in to create an appropriate picture.
But yes, she’s very, very good. Her non-muse related works are equally amazing, if not more so.

Yesterday I didn’t get a chance to get on the blog much because my class went on a field trip which didn’t end until after school hours. We went to a local nature center. It was a decent trip although we did have to sit through a couple of lectures in the beginning…*yawn* At least the food was good. Other than that it was an interesting trip even though it was raining for a good part of it and everything was outside…

My dad and I went to the mall yesterday, and they already have the food court and parking lot decorated for Christmas (although it’s really just a bunch of lights on every other tree). And I think the Christmas specialty store there was open at least before Halloween.

Urg, the internet is sloooowwwwwww out here in my room. Probably because the poor computer isn’t getting much of a signal, but still. Grr.
I should really do something other than play on the computer all day. I should go, uh, read. Or write. Gods, I need to write a resume. >.< I don't wanna, I don't wanna…..my inner procrastinator is throwing a tantrum. But I do want to sail next summer, so I really must get myself in gear and just get started on the darned thing. Eew, eew, eeeeeeeeew.

in November 14th, 2009 @ 14:14Garage Band…….’tis wonderful for making ringtones for your cell phone. That is, if, like me, you parents aren’t paying for a plan that allows texting/downloading things/etc. So, to go and get a “free download” ringtone would still cost data charges.
But, you can bluetooth anything to or from the phone for free, so……Splice out a segment of a song in Garage Band, send it to iTunes, drag it to the desktop, and bluetooth it to your phone.
Yup, that’s how I got HP ringtones for my phone, although it took awhile to get the segments to a length short enough (small enough size) that I could use ’em for a ringtone…….

I wouldn’t mind having some fun music on my phone….I could get even STRANGER looks! xD

in November 14th, 2009 @ 19:57I don’t use the specific ringtone function. I just drag my desired song into GB, splice out a segment (approximately 15 seconds, or else my phone says it’s too big to use as a ringtone. Of course, other phones may have different ideas of what is too big…..), and then select “Send song to iTunes”. Somewhere along the way when you send it, I have to make sure that it’s checked that it exports as a .mp3, as that’s all my phone will accept for a ringtone (again, may vary based upon phone).
Let’s just say I spent way too much time doing so, and made myself 4 different HP ringtones (one for dad, one for mom, one for my sis, and one for the general calling public).

Yesterday my mom and I were shopping and I saw some knee socks with orange stickers on them that said “THAT’S SO BUNNY!” on them in hot-pink letters. Needless to say, this was extremely disturbing.One pair was hot-pink with peace signs on them, and some others had HPBs on them!

in November 15th, 2009 @ 19:51I have. It’s funny, but somewhat inappropriate for younger viewers. I’m not sure I would recommend it.
I keep running into that with MB-suggested things. XKCD had entirely too many swear words in it, too. I kept looking until I learned a new one, at which point I drew the line. I’ve nearly sworn off looking up the suggestions I run in to. Not quite, though.

1. I have bronchitis (whoopee!). I went to the doctor’s this morning, which means I got to miss gym
, but now I have to take antibiotics and all this other junk. *coughs* Don’t worry, it’s very mildly contagious.2. I should never, ever, EVER drink apple juice in the morning if it’s a school day. My mom and I stopped at Dunkin’ Donuts after the doctor’s, and I got a bottle of apple juice, which was A Big Mistake. I drank a lot of it, and all that sugar must’ve done something serious to my brain, because by the end of the day, I was talking so fast and moving around so much that people stopped trying to understand me. I kept screaming stuff at people in a British accent, and then started babbling on and on about how J.Lo, Jay Leno, and John Lennon must all be related because don’t their names sound EXACTLY THE SAME?! My friends got into it, too, and all heck broke out in the classroom. It’s a wonder we didn’t all get detention…I feel so sorry for the science teacher substitute.

Meh. All my friends cut gym today, so it was just me and the remains of two other cliques, both of which I’m not very fond of (the feeling was mutual, except by a few who hated me). I survived and even followed the rules of basketball at the same time (when the angry mob charges you because you have to ball, pass it to some unfortunate soul instead of running like hell with the ball. Why can’t I have a teacher who believes in fouls and fouls shots?! This is one of those unfair moments where being skinny and a year younger= road pizza if you don’t move fast enough).

Like I’ve found two drinks that make my muscles go all weird so I hunch over and start to roll my shoulders really fast and get energetic and talk really fast and feel generally weird: Coolatas, and Seltzer mixed with a lot of sugar.
Both delicious, though. I especially recommend the last one, though I’ve only had it once.

in November 17th, 2009 @ 09:22I’m not going to be on much for the foreseeable future, because my computer’s airport died, and it won’t be fixed. It’s good for my Nano, so I’m not messing with it much.
I will be on sometimes, on my mom’s computer. But I might abandon a few threads, purely because I don’t have them bookmarked. And I won’t be checking on 24/7, because I can’t do it so secretly anymore.
Anyway, I don’t know if anyone cares about the reasons behind my partial absence, but I’m telling you all about them anyway. Just in case somebody does.

When he was a kid, he lived in an old apartment building, with six floors. He lived on the sixth floor. On the third floor, this annoying old lady lived who always liked being nosy. Every time he passed her in the hall, she’d say “Where are you going, kid?” and ask him all kinds of questions.
So, by the time he got to college he was fed up with being bothered by the old lady. He signed up to go on this trip to see a solar eclipse in Siberia and packed all his suitcases. He got in the elevator with his luggage, and it stopped on the 3rd floor. The old lady got on.
“Hey, kid, where are you going with all that luggage?”
“I’m going to Siberia, geez!”
So the lady shut up and he got out on the ground floor.
The next day, the old lady called his mother and asked “Do you know how RUDE your son was to me yesterday?”

Sometimes I wonder if she entered a time warp from the nineteenth century.

It was above my level back then, but when I finally read it it creeped me out because of all the hidden references. It was the only book that I got from said relative that I hadn’t asked for, and…. There was a big fight. Now that I’ve read the book, I can see that there are certain parallels between the characters and some of said relatives. I asked my mother about it, and she wasn’t surprised in the least. I couldn’t stand people touching my long braid, and I’d kick or elbow anyone who tried. I can also find parallels for several other heirs and Sam Westing. Matching up the characters, I could see another side of en. I still don’t agree with en, but at least I understand en better. For me, the westing game is much more than just a good mystery.

I got a haircut, so I can see again, which is a distinct advantage over having bangs constantly in my face. Though I do feel slightly bald now.Aand, we went to Act II (it’s a used clothing store that always has nice stuff) and ran into some friends that we haven’t seen in years! I was poking around, noticed that there was a mother and daughter looking at the jeans rack behind me and then realized that I knew them! It was great, they were good friends who we used to do a lot of things with but then just fell out of touch. So it was good to see them, even for a few minutes.
I found a few lightweight jackets, which will be lovely. One is dark green and pretty simple, but nice. Lace trim and an almost denim-y fabric.
The other one is tan courderoy, double breasted, and cut in a way that can only have been inspired by Regency (or Federal) era clothing. It’s got that sort of a tailored cut, so the seams aren’t right over the shoulders, if that makes sense, and the back and front are made of several pieces each. And it has tails. Really. And those things that you’d hang epaulets off of, not sur eof the exact name. And a stand-up collar.
In short, it’s rather epic, handsome and hilarious all at once. Needless to say, I’m looking forward to wearing it.
I also got a pair of purple shoes. They’re those kind that look rather like a cross between a ballet flat and a converse sneaker, only they’ve got purple stripes. Yum.I’m now sitting in my room with my feet propped in front of the heater, rear end snuggled deep into the beanbag chair (which I have cleared off and resolved to use as a chair instead of a dumping grounds for anything that comes in the door) and a computer on my lap, writing a story for my homework. Working very hard, of course. *shifty eyes*

When I first got it cut this short though it had been halfway down my back, my neck actually hurt the next couple of days because I was holding my head differently without the weight.

I used to have a sort of cycle where I would grow my hair a bit past shoulder length, then get fed up with it (it’s somewhat curly and tangles easily, fluffs a bit in the humidity, and is very thick) and chop it back up to behind my ears. I used to have awful hair in kindergarten- my mom insisted that I was too young either to know what I wanted to do with my hair or too young to take care of it, but around first grade I put my foot down, after a year of “boy in the dress” taunts. Still, I used to suddenly realize after a haircut that I wasn’t having to make any conscious effort to hold my head up. Sometimes I would wake up and start trying to brush nonexistent hair. I’ve collected all my haircuts (or most of them) in a freezer bag, which has grown somewhat heavy.Sorry for rambling.
Class pictures yesterday. I wore eyeliner for the first time but scrubbed it off before the picture. If my parents found out they would kill me brutally.

So this is really different, having it short. It’s been about half a year now, and I actually really like it. Though I think I’ll have it long again eventually.

The Muse Academy travel mug worked marvelously this morning. Finally I can bring my own cappuccinos instead of having to buy the school’s.
A bunch of extempers on my forensics team have decided that we’re going to write ourselves an OID made up of the most depressing things we hear in DI finals. A fellow extemper and I, who didn’t break (there were nine sections of extemp O.O), began gathering material today. We already have two types of cancer, schizophrenia, mass suicide, OCD, and several other such things, all from a single finals round. As well as several overarching ideas, namely (lots and lots of) screaming (often while crying and stomping) and semi-objectophilia–it always seems there’s some single object the character obsesses on, be it lipstick or a “denim studded jacket”. Oh heavens, this will be amazing.
And now I realize no one here will understand any of that, for the most part.

It’s an original play that the drama teacher wrote about a book that writes itself and does magical stuff. I tried out for one of the main character’s mother who has a pretty big part (aka Mother Beale). I have an advantage, though, because I’m waaaay taller than all the girls who tried out for Mother Beale’s daughter, Harriet. The cast list will be up on Monday. I really hope I get either this part pr another main character.

I traced the Earth eclipse picture from the Kaguya probe last year and then pressed on the other side of the tracing paper to transfer the image to my sketchbook. (It’s reversed, which would mean the eclipse is ending rather than beginning, but oh, well.)

I stood in line for four hours after waking up at five in the morning to get my Swine Flu shot. By the time I left the building the line stretched around the school. They gave us T-Shirts! Unfortunately, they didn’t say “I Survived Swine ’09” like they should have.
We’re reading Ayn Rand in English. I already read Anthem, which is the book we’re reading now. It’s ridiculous, imho. Our English book actually isn’t that bad this year. Except for the part where it says “poetry is a way of condensing ideas”, because the Odyssey is in NO WAY condensed.
I was looking through files that I was transferring to my laptop from my old computer when I came upon multiple Muse and MuseBlog fanfictions. I think I had saved Alice’s, POSOC (he was just PC then), Robert’s and the collective one. Major nostalgia, right there. Hardly anyone in there is still on the blog!

It’s actually a pretty good movie, even if I’m not sure I buy some of the stuff they were depicting in it…….But I did enjoy it….Although finishing your entire soda an hour into the movie (it was probably over a liter), when the movie is almost three hours……Bad idea. I had to pee really bad for 2 hours of the movie. Which is probably “TMI”……So I’ll shut up.
But, really, it’s a good movie.

I just finished Good Omens. I really almost painfully want to read more (I haven’t finished reading a book in so long, I forgot about this aspect of it), but I can’t. Partly because there are no more Gaiman/Pratchett books, and even though I could read a book by just one of them and be happy, it would take over my Life and I wouldn’t want to do anything else until I’d finished.
Stories are frustrating. Grr.
But anyway, it’s a really brilliant book!Closing night tonight, and then strike and then cast dinner and then–it’s over. And I have blessed free time until auditions for Black Comedy in the second week of December.
And can you believe 2009 is almost over already? I can’t.

It’s difficult to describe without the context of the book, but basically (SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER), the book takes place in Nazi Germany and the main character’s family is hiding a Jew in their basement. He writes the main character, a girl named Liesel, a story about how Hitler grew ugly words. In the story, Word Shakers are the people who get the words down from the trees. There is one Word Shaker who plants a tear that she cried for her friend, and that tree grows beautiful words. Hitler tries to have it chopped down, but until the Word Shaker’s friend comes back and the two of them leave together, the tree cannot be chopped down.
92 – I haven’t seen it, but I imagine you’d be pretty freaked out for a while. Last year after my World History midterm we watched part of The Day After Tomorrow, and when I went outside to catch my bus home the weather was dark and stormy. I was on edge for the rest of the day.
I absolutely do not believe the world is going to end in 2012, but it would really suck if it did–that’s the year I graduate high school.

The French and Spanish classes are as a second language, but the Mandarin classes have two streams with differing levels in each stream – the Second Language stream and the Near Native stream (for Chinese people who know either Cantonese and/or speak Chinese home. I’m the exception – I’m the only half-Chinese in the Near Native stream (I think). And I’m in the second-highest (out of 6 Near Native levels) too. Which is pretty good considering the highest level is for all the people who come over from local schools here and have already learned all our curriculum.)
Anyway, in 6th grade we had to take a language, and you were only allowed one, so I took Chinese because I had to. I also learn French outside of school, though, and I wouldn’t want to take French at school because I’d already started learning a long time before the Beginner classes started in 6th grade.

Yesterday Muffy came over, and we goofed off in between cleaning (Mom was in a CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN, EXTERMINATE DUST! mood).
Then the concert in the evening went pretty well, I missed a few entrances, but I doubt anyone noticed except myself. But still….meh. Overall it was lovely.
Today I woke up with a throat that hurts more than it did yesterday and a stuffy nose and ickiness in general. NOT happy about this on the day of our second performance.
Ah well. Now I have to go put on my concert clothes (black, black, black and more black) and sing.
Scary thought: we’ve not sung in the church before. GAH!

I guess I’m curious to find out what the paleo threads are like, although it doesn’t sound like they’re very different from these anyway.School basketball has started. I was sore all last week with practices every day, but now I’m finally good and we only have two practices next week with Thanksgiving break.
The school play auditions are coming up soon too! The play is an original story that the teacher wrote, so I’m not going to write about it here for fear that it might be a little too specific. All I’m going to say is that it definitely pwns…

in November 22nd, 2009 @ 19:58Okay, I wanted to come on here and talk about how thrilled I was that astronaut Randy Bresnik’s a dad now and he had a special videoconference with his wife and new daughter Abigail, but my parents wanted me to watch The Day The Earth Stood Still (2008 version, not 1951.) with them for two hours as a bonding thing.
I know the critics have already pointed out a lot of flaws in the movie, but the one that stood out to me is that we go almost the whole movie without learning the name of Helen’s friend, the NASA official. She meets him and says “It’s nice to see you again, etc.”, but she doesn’t greet him by name, nor does anybody else. When he dies, almost at the end of the movie, she shouts “Micheal!”, so yeah, I guess his name’s Micheal.
According to Wikipedia, it’s Micheal Granier, but we NEVER heard that. The whole time I was referring to him as “The friend who doesn’t have a name.”

0000 – 0030: free time
0030 – 0100: nap
0100 – 0400: free time
0400 – 0700: core sleep
0700 – 1630: school
1630 – 1700: nap
1700 – 2030: free time
2030 – 2100: nap
2100 – 0000: free timeAnother possible schedule:

in November 23rd, 2009 @ 06:23I’m hoping that once I get used to this schedule I’ll whittle the half-hour naps down to twenty minutes, giving me four hours of sleep. People have tried various alternative sleep schedules (most of which have less than four hours of sleep), and many of them say they actually have more energy than when they had just slept for eight hours straight. Think of it like eating–would it be very effective to have one big feast at night and then fast for the rest of the 24 hour period? No, it’s better to have smaller meals spread throughout the day.
I actually figured out an even better schedule (similar to the second I posted up there) that accommodates for all the idiosyncrasies of my week, which I’ve decided to slowly adopt–waking up ten minutes earlier a day and taking the naps I’ll need once I get down to three hours of core sleep.

I am absolutely flamablamablous, despite the fairly large amount of homework I have to accomplish over Thanksgiving Break.
As the dorms at my school are closed for the week, I’m at my sister’s college for break–all week long. On Thursday, we are going to attempt to cook ourselves a turkey dinner. I’ll let you know how that turns out…….
Oddly enough, sleeping on a couch that is about a foot or so shorter than you are (meaning you can’t stretch out), is quite comfortable. For whatever reason, having four people moving about in the place (it’s an apartment style dorm, with a living room/kitchen area downstairs, and two rooms and a bathroom upstairs) getting ready for classes in the early morning doesn’t even disturb me a smidgen as much as having one roomie back at my college going about her business in the morning. And at my dorm I’m actually sleeping in a real bed, not crashing on a couch. Yeah……I dont’ quite understand how I’m sleeping so soundly and not hardly even noticing them up and a bout and presumably making themselves breakfast not 10 feet from my head in the kitchen. eh, whatever. Can’t complain about not getting woken up.
Only downside…..there is a spider hanging in the doorway of the pantry area, has been ever since I got here. Actually, my sis was showing me around when I got in around midnight on Friday, and she was showing me the pantry. She opened the door, and I started to lean in, and only half seriously, I commented, “There aren’t any spiders in here, are there?”
She goes: “Yeah, there probably are.”
I make some comment along the lines of “Oh, great.” And then, right above my head in the upper right corner of the door frame–yup, that’s right, a spider. With a muffled screech (that is to say, a screech that is voiced in a whisper, as people were sleeping), I jump back. My sis gives me a weird look, cuz she’d only said there “probably” were spiders, not that there actually were, so when I pointed to the spider she started laughing, because, well, it was somewhat amusing given the topic of conversation not five seconds earlier.
So, yeah, she refuses to kill it for me, and I don’t do spiders, so, um, yeah, pantry is kinda off limits for me, cuz I don’t want to walk through the doorway with a freakin’ spider hanging there. I mean, with my luck, it’ll choose that moment to leave it’s spot and come land on my head, or something……I do not like spiders. At all. *shudder*
Ummmmm, yeah, anyways. I talk too much. Especially when I’m hyper, which I get when I’m happy, which I (obviously) am right now…….

in November 23rd, 2009 @ 19:1187–Oh, I once had a dream that I hosted a Kokonvention at this weird park/forest thing. All of these people whom I knew were MuseBloggers (I can’t remember any specifics, but there was one Asian-looking girl with glasses) sitting around this wooden picnic table. It was dark and there was a big bonfire in front of the table. I stood up and said, “Why don’t we all go around the table and say our real names and our blognames. I’m Emi and I’m also Silver Lining.” So we went around the table, but I can’t remember a single person, and suddenly there was a huge explosion. The bonfire randomly blew up or something, I guess. Then we we all jumped up from the table and started running, screaming, through the forest. And for some reason everyone was laughing too, and I knew that it was a game of tag. It was very strange, but I woke up with a huge grin on my face (literally).

in November 23rd, 2009 @ 20:28Um, I’d say having a paper cut that bleeds for two hours is definitely unusual. My paper cuts almost never bleed, at all. If you often bleed for an extremely long time after getting a cut, it is technically possible that you’re hemophilic, but…..That is incredibly unlikely. That is to say, it’s very, very rare. Most likely, your paper cut was just in a location on your finger (or wherever) that gets moved/used a lot, thus dislodging any clots that started to form, making it take awhile to stop bleeding.

Right after Thanksgiving I’ll be going to WI to visit grandparents, then coming back home, then going to Boston, then coming home, then going to NC, then coming home and having a friend stay for a week. Whew, craziness. I’m glad though, it’ll be fun. I need to pack.
And I still need to write a resume. I really need to get on that if I want to sail next year. Anyone know anything about writing resumes? I really need to do it, and I have a few books, but urgh, just getting started is like AAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!! Oh well.Luna, sounds like fun, being with your sister at her dorm. Are you two not going home to your family for Thanksgiving? I hope your turkey dinner goes well. Hopefully you’re better in the kitchen than I am……

in November 23rd, 2009 @ 21:32Oh, it is lots of fun! But, no, unfortunately neither of us are going home for Thanksgiving. For my sis, it would really be feasible, as she only has TFSS off, and although I could have time-wise, it would have been about twice as expensive for my parents to have flown me home, as opposed to flying me to my sister’s college. So, basically what I was told before I even started college was I either get to come home for Thanksgiving or Spring Break, not both (and of course Christmas and summer I get to go home, too).
I think the dinner should go fairly well–my sis is a pretty decent cook, although she’s never cooked a turkey……But mom sent us lots of instructions on how to cook various parts of the meal, and I think my portions (the fruit salad and the pumpkin pie) shouldn’t go too horribly awry.
In general, though, I avoid cooking as much as possible. Not so much because I”m bad at it (I’ve not cooked enough to know if I”m bad), just more because I don’t enjoy it.As for resumes……I’ve done ’em a couple times, but I really don’t remember much of what you’re supposed to do. I might be able to find one of my old ones, see what dad told me to put on it.

in November 23rd, 2009 @ 22:05I mean it’s hard to fall asleep very quickly. If I’m going to adopt the sleep schedule I talked about, I’m going to have to learn to fall asleep within minutes. If what I’ve read is correct, my brain will eventually learn to go almost directly into REM sleep, making even a twenty minute nap be very beneficial.

You know, it’s not very nice when the best present you’ve ever gotten is the ability to spend two weeks in your house. AND there will be snow, and Christmas trees, and aunts, and cousins! And long-lost friends! Also, unlike in the summer, CA school will be open on the last few days of my visit, so I can see my beloved 5th grade teacher! Goodbye, Equator! WHEEEEEEEEEE! WHEEEEE! WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!Look, I’m sorry about all the capitals, exclamation points, etc. But I’m SOOOOOO happy! You have no idea how awful it is to spend a summer walking by your own house and hearing the shrieks of the renter from inside of it.

The WHOLE POINT of the treehouse was thast it didn’t damage the tree (I tied it on) and could only be accessed by climbing!!! Don’t you dare tell me it’s safer. I don’t care about safe. Now when I go back I have to spend ages carefully removing planks! AND I PADLOCKED it before I left. The door, I mean. And then guess what I got????????? A LETTER ASKING FOR THE COMBINATION NUMBER!!! Hello! The whole point of it was to keep them out! And then I told them that I wished the tree house to remain closed and you know what they did??? They caking pulled out the door!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My old house is also in Massachusetts. I’ve never gone back to it, but I’ve seen both of the houses my parents grew up in. Both times the people actually took us on a tour of the house. My mom’s hadn’t changed a speck but my dad’s was completely renovated, according to my grandparents, who came with us on the “tour” and also designed the house from the ground up.
Listening to “Fireflies” by Owl City *<3* and "Live and Let Die" over and over again.

I have lived in MI and CO and we have visited the MI house several times because we were good friends with the neigbors, but I don’t think we have been to CO. I don’t remember much about either house seeing as I was 9 months old when we moved from MI to CO and 2 years when we moved from CO to here (MN). I remember our yard from Denver. It had this tree and a bird feeder and a big wood fence around it and we used to tie our cats to the tree and let them roam about the yard. That bit about cats tied to trees would be very strange to hear out of context.

Hmm. I’ve lived in the same house for my entire life. It’s changed during the course of 17 years, for sure, and in that time I’ve actually moved out to my separate room and all, but it’s always been the same place. So if someone were to wander around our property they could still find remnants of all my forts, hiding places, “thinking spots”, playgrounds, pirate coves, castles, fairy woods, boot camp (don’t ask), tree/log bridge, brewery (again, don’t ask), “house” that I was going to run away to (but never did), treasure maps, theatre stages, ballfields and secret passages. As you can tell, I personalized our place a bit. But one must be able to think like a demented child to see these places, to boring (and possibly more sane than I) people, they just see rosebushes, old pieces of plywood and a pile of bricks.
Now everyone’s probably going to be annoyed at me because I’ve never moved….. *hides*
I absolutely hate shopping. Just an observation.

We almost moved to Washington when I was 10, but despite having put the house on market and having boxed up a bunch of stuff, in never panned out. Dad drove down to Seattle, but ended up he didn’t find anything he liked, or decided he didn’t want to live there afterall, or something, and we never ended up moving. Needless to say, my sister and I were overjoyed. My parents (and my sis, who was about 2 at the time) moved into the house we live in now when I was born, as the house they had before wasn’t big enough for the four of us. So, yup, I’ve lived the exact same house my entire life……It’s nice.

in November 25th, 2009 @ 08:16I’ve never moved either. Well, okay, so I left the place where I was born ten days after I was born, and I lived in an apartment for six months while the house I’ve lived in ever since was being built. Overall, though, I’ve never really moved. Not emotionally, anyway.
Changes have happened since we moved in. Rooms have been painted, become different things, furniture has been obtained… But overall, it’s the same house.
And the miniature forest around us… Well, we didn’t leave too many scars on it. A few different swings. A treehouse. We’ve named many features, sure, but they were mostly there already. We have a great fondness for naming things around our neighborhood. It is quite enjoyable. Though we have actually mostly done it recently.

I had the most bizarre dream a while ago. A whole bunch of my friends and I were crowded into the handicap stall in the girls’ bathroom at school and we were all wearing Hogwarts robes. We’re just sitting in there giggling, and all of the sudden, Dumbledore flings open the door (wasn’t it locked?) and starts yelling at us about missing our classes. He makes us follow him out of the bathroom, into the hall, and out the door that leads to the playground, only it’s not the playground, it’s this giant field with a bunch of students dressed like us walking around rather purposefully on some paths, and there’s a forest near the field. Dumbledore leads to one path near the forest, and there’s Snape! Dumbledore said something like, “Professor Snape will deal with you,” and left us alone with Snape. Then I woke up. Being left alone with Snape is enough to terrify any Pottermaniac into consciousness.

Just watched today’s (well, yesterday now, technically) episode of Criminal Minds……I think that was the hardest any TV show has ever made me cry. Now, mind you, I can think of one other show, that had the circumstances of my watching been different (as in, had there not been the potential for my roommate to walk in at any time), I would have been crying just as hard. I mean, I was crying just as hard, just without actually shedding any tears in that instance (odd sensation, sobbing without shedding tears), but…..Yeah, tonight’s CM was really depressing.
Off to watch a Doctor Who episode to cheer me up before heading to bed, as I will have a rather early morning tomorrow, when my sis turns the TV on to watch the parade at 9.

The magic system of Askan is impossible to quantify. Any attempt to describe it scientifically would be incorrect. It is ritual-based system, performed in a language that has no meaning. The best way to counteract the effect of this magic is logic. Logic will destroy the magic being used on it. Conversely, magic will destroy any logic being used on it, which is why the magic is impossible to quantify. The only reason magic works in Ashkan is because the universe is large enough that it doesn’t notice immediately when 1+1=3 in a small region of one tiny little planet in a dusty corner of the universe.
People regard magic as a necessity, but one that they don’t understand, and one that doesn’t make sense. Nobody understands magic in Ashkan, as any attempt to understand it would lead to either:
Insanity, or convincing yourself that 2+2 actually does equal 5. Either way, you can’t use any logical techniques on it.
Magic and technology are incompatible. Because machines are based on logic, they don’t work when magic is near. However, magical machines exist. There are 6 simple magical machines, which incorporate the magic into their workings. All of them are perpetual motion machines. The less energy you give them, the more they put out.

Of course, that’s thanks more to my sis, than to me, as she did most of hte cooking (turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes w/ marshmallows, homemade dinner rolls, gravy), I just made the fruit salad and the pumpkin pie–the latter of which we’ve not tried yet, but I think it’ll turn out fine.
Anyway, we’re just setting down to watch a movie, so…..I suppose it would be polite of me to finish typing and put away by computer.

Disconnect from the internet straight away, go into safe mode, and find another computer from which you can get software to remove the Trojan. I’ve been hacking at it for hours now, and still no luck. At least it’s on my sister’s laptop, not the main home computer. But I have no idea how much longer this full scan will take, as the progress bar has been full for quite some time now. Wait, it’s checking the recovery drive, which means it should be done soon. But no infected files found? What the cake?
And now I’ll try the fourth piece of software on my list of softwares that should get rid of this Trojan.

MOVING ON.
Thanksgiving was great. Not only the food, but I love to be surrounded by my family. It’s great to be with those people who you almost never get to see…
School has been amazing! I never thought that I’d love high school so much. I love how all of my classes are mixed in with other grades. I never thought that I would make more friends but look what’s happened! At least five more people. My grades are great except I got a 90 in English. My Global teacher is HYSTERICAL. She never teaches us anything, because she leaves the classroom for five minutes at a time to talk with old students or other teachers in the hallways. And then, we have to teach ourselves because we don’t learn anything. For an honors class, it’s pretty easy.
In English, (I should’ve put this up there with the sentence about my 90) we’re reading Great Expectations by Charles Dickens. The plot is pretty good, but since it’s written with all of the words and expressions from that time, it’s nearly impossible to make sense of. I hate to say it, but Spark Notes is saving me… I read the chapter, but nothing really makes sense until I read the Spark Notes. Darn.
I’m doing surprisingly well in math, even though proofs are really boring. All of the girls in my math class are swooning over my teacher because they all think he’s hot. He’s fifteen years older than them and married. Some people need a reality check…
After school, I’ve been going to model congress, and jr. art honor society. Model congress is simply amazing. No words can describe it. I can’t wait until my first foreign congress in another school.
In art, (I’m going to refer to jr. art honor society as “art”) we’ve been working on these murals for this girl who passed away. Our murals are a timeline of music, and her favorite song, You Can’t Stop the Beat, is in the background. Me and my friend were working on the panel for the 1940’s and it just looks spectacular! We put so much hard work into it, and I’m so happy it’s done.

Now, normally I wouldn’t really need one but as I go to a lot of soccer and basketball tournaments that are far from home alone and am often late at the theater where I do drama, I guess it was time that I needed one. (And, of course. Texting my friends is fun too! Although most of they texts are painfully boring…”Hey” “Hey what’s up?” “Nothing how about you.” You get the idea… I’m going to try really hard not to go overboard on that, because I seriously don’t need another way to procrastinate. Ha ha. And for those of you who didn’t get a phone until way past 7th grade…let me tell you, I swear I’m the last person to get a phone in my grade. Well, one of the last. Kinda crazy considering the fact that most of the kids don’t truly NEED NEED a phone. But I think I have good enough reasons for it, beyond just wanting it. Which I did.) Anyhow, so far I’m really happy with the phone and I haven’t lost it, not even once, which must be a first for me because I lose everything.
But let’s not jinx it.

in November 28th, 2009 @ 11:06Last night I went to see New Moon with my friends. Bad idea. Every two lines we were either cracking up because the lines were poorly delivered or cracking up at the lines… What a waste of ten dollars. At least we got a laugh!!!
My cousins girlfriend keeps on adding me as a friend on a certain social networking site (I don’t know if I can say its name) and I keep on ignoring her, because I only add people who I know pretty well as friends, and I don’t know her too well. Today, I logged on and she sent me a message. “Why won’t you add me as a friend?”
God, what am I supposed to do… This is going to be really awkward next time I see her.

I mean, there’s this one girl who’s on my basketball team but she isn’t in the same grade as me and we barely know each other. However, she’s gotten a hold of my number and she’s been texting me a lot. I don’t want to be rude and not text her or block her, but I barely know her and it feels kind of awkward. And is it rude to not reply to someone when they send you a text and you’ve got time? Sometimes I just don’t feel like responding because I don’t have an Unlimited plan, but then I feel kind of rude for not doing it…I guess I should feel ok though, because it’s not a crime to ignore someone just…I don’t know. I’ve never really thought about this stuff before because I didn’t have a phone.

in November 28th, 2009 @ 14:42You don’t have to feel rude for not texting someone back. Just tell her that you don’t have unlimited texting, and that you can’t waste your minutes. I do happen to have unlimited texting, and people I don’t really know were texting me all the time saying “hey”. I’d just text back “hey”, and the conversation was over. No unnecessary awkwardness, because there was nothing to talk about. People get the idea now that if they don’t have something in mind to talk about, they shouldn’t text me. My situation is a bit different though. I guess I’ll add her as a friend… :/
LBK- Have you ever heard a bunch of girls see a really cute baby animal or kitten or something? The high pitched noise that ensues is “squee” ing.
Ms. Lasley- I hope that never happens to Harry Potter… Although I guess Twilight fans hope that never happens to Twilight. It’s not that bad I guess… I just don’t like it how Bella is all annoying. I used to like the series, but it got annoying when every five seconds we get to read how perfect Edward is, or how Bella loves him so much, and how she can’t understand why he loves her. The werewolves are sorta cool though.

I’m at the library for the lone day that I’ll have computer access probably.It’s alright here, not too cold, which is good. I wish I would have packed more than one pair of shoes, but such is life.
The trip here was okay, my ears are still popping from the combination of flying and being sick. Eurgh. It really hurt when we landed, I hate the pressure in my ears changing. :L
Oh well, it was okay. Not as bad as the time I had to fly to Seattle with an ear infection…..So, now I’m in WI with nothing to do. I finished the book I was reading, so I’m going to need to ration the second one.
And take more walks…thank heavens we’re on the 2-mile walk arund town. But the library’ll probably be closed tomorrow. *sigh*

in November 28th, 2009 @ 22:50I am now working at McDonalds =) it is really scary though, because everyone is really loud and they only smile at customers, I guess they are really busy…but there is a cool touch screen thing and the drink machines automatically know when to stop so the cup doesn’t overflow, and the ice creams are really hard to pour (pour?) but it’s so fun =)
But yeah, everyone is busy and loud! (I’m not really a busy and loud person :/ )

•Future time traveler sent back in time on a tourism-type thing…keeps giving things away and being mortified
•Fugitive from a dystopian future…escaping with friends/family, but something went wrong and I can’t find them and I’m being followed
•Trying to save the world from an imminent disaster, building momentum throughout the day and peaking in the desperate and horrible realization that to stop it will result in the fabric of space-time being ripped apart
•Person from future or past who invented a time travel device and is wandering about being completely thrilled about everything but not really knowing how anything worksTrouble is, I can’t decide…

in November 29th, 2009 @ 17:33Sometimes, when my everyday surroundings (such as the streets of Washington, D.C.) start to seem dull and overfamiliar, I’ll pretend that I’m a time traveler from the future with only a short visit in which to glimpse this historical moment. I say to myself: “Look! Cars! With internal combustion engines, burning hydrocarbon fuel! And the clothes — is that coat made of wool? And all these people walking around, even though they’ve all been dead for hundreds and hundreds of years!” Sometimes it helps me to appreciate everything a little more, or at least stay awake. If I were an artist like Rebecca, I could probably achieve the same thing just by looking, without having to play imaginative tricks.
(It’s true enough, you know: We will exist in the future, we don’t have long to look around us, and things do change.)

Maybe I miss him having regular companions, maybe they just aren’t very well-written…or I expect more from a special and don’t get it. I dunno. Poor picture quality might have something to do with it too. Planet of the Dead and The Waters of Mars were both watched in less-than-optimal conditions. But anyway, I’m really looking forward to the Christmas special because it should be weird. Also, it’s the last episode with David Tennant (-sniff-), so they’ll probably make it big and dramatic and I love big and dramatic.

in November 29th, 2009 @ 23:19The specials typically have fallen rather short for me, but I actually thought Waters of Mars was an amazing episode, despite poor picture quality and bad buffering on one of the parts. It was very moving and tragic, having to watch the Doctor watch everyone and not be able to help.
I’m looking forward to the Christmas special, as well–the preview at the end of Waters of Mars made it out to look pretty good, if weird. Plus, I’m pretty sure Captain Jack Harkness is in it, I’m sure I read that somewhere, so…..That’s a plus right there…..And it’s sure to be sad, of course, if for no other reason than Tennant leaving. *sob*

He told the interviewer: “There is more history in the ocean that in all the museums of the world.”

in November 29th, 2009 @ 22:28Doesn’t everyone just LOVE staying up until 11:30 doing their homework? Because I certainly do. It’s just lovely to be reading Great Expectation with your eyes closing. And I just love the feeling of falling asleep in the middle of reading about hypotonic solutions for bio.
So much fun.
I’m never going to procrastinate again. Wait, that’s a lie. I know that’s not happening. I’m so mad though… I didn’t get to practice my flute, and I can’t exactly do it now, I’d wake up my whole family. Okay, goodnight for now.

in November 29th, 2009 @ 22:47Urgh, yes, I absolutely LOVE staying up to do homework. But you think 11:30’s bad? Try staying up until 2, or even 5 doing homework. Now that really sucks. Especially when you have to get up for classes the next morning…..I swore not to procrastinate again myself after that, but, um, yeah, that lasted all of five minutes.

When that happens I usually just get up early in the morning anyway (usually around 5, sometimes 4 if it’s serious) so it defeats the purpose of “getting more sleep”.
I’d much rather stay up later – I’m more awake then than at 4 in the morning. Trust me, I am NOT a morning person. Even on the weekends. I wake up at 10 and I’m tired. Seriously.
The one good thing about waking up early to do homework is that I finally get to be on at the same time as you people. Then again, it’s partly your fault that I have to get up so early anyway (<–fancy way of saying I procrastinate by going on MB). But I'm not complaining It's actually one of the more educational ways of procrastinating (does that make sense?)

I often pretend to be from the past, possibly because… Put it this way; you can use a street atlas in Vienna for over 20 years and still have it be mostly accurate. Most of the buildings in the city center are about 150 years old anyway; and knowing the viennese mind future people would just find better ways to conserve them than *gasp* actually build something new.
192- Don’t worry Piggy, I’ll be right there besides you, a few doors over in the loony ward (“I was not trying to blow the city up! I just wanted to bake some cookies!”).
193- *draws self up do full height* Procrastinate? How can you even think of such a thing? I would never stoop to such a level- I just don’t do it

Thankfully, if teachers think you’re a good student (do your homework for the first two months of every semester) you can stop doing homework eventually and have a sob story prepared if you get caught (after which you’ll have to do homework for about a month again). In the end, it´s smart not to do homework- at the right time, that is.Yes, I’m constantly playing the how-little-can-I-do-and-still-get-an-A-or-B game.

I was up until 2:30 last night. I was finished with my work at 10:30, but I had insomnia. Stupid insomnia. At least I have a break now…and why are people playing A Whole New World in my school’s equivalent of a student center? OK, I now have to research asteroids and the dinosaurs.

I have off school today as part of my Thanksgiving break! It’s actually an In Service Day, but because it’s positioned now I’m just thinking of it as part of the break. It’s nice to have off but today I will be cramming all the homework I didn’t do earlier in the break as well as studying because I have a test/quiz every stinkin day for the rest of the week, and three of those are in English. Ugh.
Piggy, I’m sorry to hear that you’re going to fail, but Robert’s right perhaps a job in a certain tea shop might be better suited…

in November 30th, 2009 @ 23:32At least you’re not taking the number 4950 and seeing if you can make it add up to 23 in any way, shape, or form. Oh, wait, nevermind….You all have no idea what I”m talking about, as my mentioned my haunting by the number 23 elsewhere.
My sis and I watched “Number 23” while I was at her school over break, and, well, starting shortly into the movie (this was Friday, I think) my brain has been taking every number it sees and trying to make it somehow add up to 23. My birthday, for instance: 3/29/90, adds up to 23. With great effort, I can get the zipcode of my college and my social to add up to 23 (in other words, lots of flippage and recombination of numbers). When I called my parents last night when I got back to my dorm it was 9:14, which, I realized this afternoon in spanish, adds up to 23. The address of a random building across the street while the bus was dropping someone else off yesteday: 1211, adds up to 23.
So, um, yeah……..Anybody who wants to rescue my brain from insanity is more than welcome to do so. I’d be very much appreciative.
