Logomania Unleashed! Part 2

This madness most exquisitely lexical leads us dizzied and dazzled into Part 2 of the June Random Thread, where over and under the warp of being we weave the weft of words.

    • That’s not easy to say, Piggy. I’m guessing somewhere around 36 hours of actual graphics time, spread out over five days, not counting the time it took to compile the list of MBers who’d posted in June. But it could easily have been more, since I have no real sense of time when I’m working. For comparison, usually I can finish a single Random Thread graphic in a day or two, and I really wasn’t expecting this one to turn into quite the marathon it became. The biggest chunks of time were eaten by various weaving experiments, then preparing the individual names. Here’s what I had around 9:00 last night:

All that to get to the fun part. Maybe I’ll post some layers on the Visual Arts thread later.

I’m probably on there then but I’m a bit to tired to look just now.

But Relay for Life was awesome! Our group was a last-minute thrown together one Athena started a week ago, so we didn’t have any previous fundraising, but M made 45 bracelets to sell outside our tent and they were gone in the first like… 3.5 hours, so we just went and gave all the money to the people then. A had a HUGE tent-it supposedly fir 8-10 people it in but could probably hold more, plus we had an outside mosquito net structure even though there were only 6 of us. We didn’t keep someone on the track all night like you’re supposed to since there weren’t a lot of us, we just would go around it a few times in pairs or all of us every hour or so and then snack/lay down for a while. I don’t think any of us actually slept at all though, maybe A dozed a bit but not really, we were talking/listening to music a lot.
At one point around 2 AM it seemed like a good idea to bring my ipod speakers around the track with us and play DOn’t Stop Believing while we walked :D Hahaha.

Around 4:30 we went out to walk some more and go to the bathroom, and we snatched a good spot by the lake with a picnic table to watch the sun rise. It was very pretty that day, a lot of pink, but we couldn’t stay to see all of it (like the part where the actual sun came up –_–) because we had to go pack up around 5:30. I got home around 6:40 (and I found another hubcap on the way back! That makes 7 in my collection!) and went up to sleep… I tried to at least, but even though I wasn’t tired at all last night partly due to an energy drink but mostly because I’m nocturnal I couldn’t really fall asleep. I maybe got 2 hours worth of dozing while I was in bed but for the most part I just lay there till around noon.

Next year we’re going to make more stuff to sell and fundraise in advance more–I’m going to make rings out of seed beads with “HOPE” spelled out on them and a few other designs.

It was a ton of fun though, I recommend all of you to try to get a group of friends together to go to one near you. It’s fun and goes to a worthwhile cause!

Ohmygod, you do Relay for Life? What state do you live in? I did one this year too, and I raised a pitiful amount of money, but I walked most of the time.

Last year was better because a couple of my friends were there and we all just hung out and badgered people for money and made fun of drag queens without wigs (do you guys do that too? Or is that just us).

Haha. I live in IL, we have a few around, the one I go is between my town and one near me. This is the first year I’ve gone, a friend invited me the day of (well technically 2 weeks before but I completely forgot until she invited me again) so it was really random. We raised money there by selling things and plan to bring more next year. We couldn’t really badger the people there for money since they were fundraising as well… haha.

We didn’t dress in drag, haha, we didn’t have anything and there were only two guys.
Well. We got J to put on a dress at the last play I guess. But only under a lotlotlot of pressure and pleading. And then he was grumpy and took it off but not before I got a picture ;)

We plan to get more people for next year so we can actually, y’know, have someone walking the whole time like you’re supposed to.

We have this Miss Something or Other contest where a bunch of guys get in drag and walk around the high school track (that’s where ours is) and collect money. I give my money to the best queen, of course, not the useless solicitors without wigs.

I just badgered my family into donating, which dosn’t work very well.

I think I’ll get a bunch more people together next year, too.

My day was great………………untill K, J, and O, along w/my li’l sis, messed it up, that is. So my sis, M, had a a gig this morning at a church with C, who is a boy, and O, who is a girl and one year younger than me,. who are both also students of M’s violin teacher, Mr. TC. And so C lives like an hour away from the area, and Mr TC was having a studio recital for all of his students like two hours from then in the same area, so C’s parents and mine decided to go to this Mexican place together. So we go to lunch, and it’s great fun, with the parents on one table and us kids at another. (C is a shy person and hardly ever talks, but for some reason, he comes out of his shell for me……….wonder why?) C and I have a pun tournament, and we both end up gasping with laughter, we talk about books, etc. Then we leave for yet another church, where the recital was taking place. C and M go get out their violins, and I help J and K’s moms to set up the reception tables. After the recital, everyone grabs some food off the table, and I end up hanging out with J, K, and O, who are all girls. J is a month older than me, K I’m not sure about her age but she’s about the same age as J and I, and O, as I said before, is a year younger. (And M is two years younger, btw.) So we’re just chillin’ out, and then K whispers something to J, and I hear my name, so I’m like, “What’re you two whispering about?” and then–
K- ok, we’ll tell you, but please don’t be mad!
    Me-uh, ok?
    J-*whispering* K thinks C has a crush on you!
    Me-WHAT!?
K-because he keeps staring at you, look, he’s doing it again!
Me-*is looking* No, he’s talking to A’s granny!
    J-well, he was!
    O-ooh, do you like C?
    Me-no, I don’t have any crushes!
    M-didn’t you like __?
    Me-no.
O-ooh, look, she’s blushing! (referring to me)
Me-yeah, right. I told you, I don’t have any crushes! Wanna play tag?
    *runs off*
    Me- I’m it!
    *tags C*
    Me-hey, C, you’re it now!
    C-ok!
    *C tags K*
    *K chases C and tags C*
    *C tags me*
O-*giggles and whispers* Ooh, he tagged you!
Me-*groans* Well, this is TAG, and he’s IT, and I’m the slowest one……….!

I wasn’t clear whether or not you liked C, so I’ll give you two scenarios: If you like him, get to know him better, see where it goes from there. If you don’t like him, try to continue to be friends. K, J, O, and M seem to be blowing the situation up a bit though, speaking as someone who wasn’t present at the time of your dilemma. He might like you and doesn’t want to ruin a friendship by letting romantic feelings get in the way, so he’ll try to stay friends.

    • soccer starr says:

34-It seems to me like both of you have mixed feelings for each other. It’s obvious that you’re already friends, and he probably is a little confused about going any further in your relationship. I’m not sure if this is the same case for you or not, but it seemed like it. Anyway, as long as he hasn’t openly admitted a crush on you right to your face, don’t worry about it! Just try to keep things normal between you-after all, even if you don’t want to go any further in your relationship, you probably don’t want to be enemies, either. If you just act cool and don’t make it a big deal, no one else will either! But if he does admit to you his crush, I would decide how you feel about him if you:

Decide that you really like him and want to go further in your relationship-say yes!

You really don’t have a crush on him-You can politely refuse and still explain that you want to be friends! If you stay calm and explain to him your feelings clearly, he will understand. You can count on him being a little disappointed, but don’t feel guilty! You didn’t do anything wrong by not loving him. Just keep his feelings in mind.

Hope my advice helps!! Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

39.1- oh, I see it now. Thanks.
39.2- I have both. The cat slipped off my shoulder and onto the laptop, woke up, stretched, and is now asleep between myself and the arm of he chair.
39.2.1- My cat used to do that. I still have a scar on my face.
40- If he does like you, you’re in luck. He seems like a perfectly nice person. I would recommend first addressing K and J to see if they have any other evidence of his affections. I would say he does have a crush on you, since he comes out of his shell for you alone. So now, you’ll probably be all nervous and twitchy around him and scared to do anything wrong in case he decides he doesn’t like you. It depends on whether you wish to take your relationship further than this. I mean, it may be better either to dump him or to become his fully-fledged girlfriend, either of which will stop at least some of the rumors. However, I would recommend that you at least keep him as a friend.

yeah, he’s an awesome guy once you can get him to talk, and he’s got almost the same sense of humour as me (I quote my mother, “warped sense of humour”), and he is just spiffin’ with violin, I mean, he’s in Suzuki Violin Book Eight at age twelve, right?(random fact-my nickname for him is “Penguin” or “Penguino”) I used to avoid him (as I wasn’t sure what to do with someone who just sat there and listened to me carrying a one-sided conversation with myself….) but then I decided to talk to him anyway, and all of a sudden, when we went on the tour (again a violin thing, M, C, and O, along with some of my other friends where in it, and I was the assistant photographer) this spring, a four-day, six-city deal, the second day he started talking~I remember nearly falling over in surprise because I hadn’t expected him to start talking like that…..but again, I’m not sure as of yet about my feelings for him. Hello everyone.
I’m back. I had tons and tons of fun and I’m sorry that it’s over, but at least the salt is out of my hair. The first day I made a paddle, which is nice but not quite done yet, and the second day I tried to learn to roll, but I didn’t succeed and I’m still really, really sore because essentially all I did was brace–a lot–and try to avoid getting my face wet. But my boat is amazing and small and fits me just right and paddles beautifully and probably rolls beautifully too only I don’t roll.
And I stayed up incredibly late every night wandering the park or just sitting around talking and today I’m exhausted.

I’m not even touching the amazingness of it all and how much fun it was and how many theater kids and Doctor Who fans there were.

I just got back from work. We’re playing Wolverine and it’s summer now so people can see movies on Monday nights. These two things combined to make life incredibly hard for me, as the only one working. I think I got about three minutes rest between 6:30 and 7:20. The movie started at seven. I had two pizzas sitting on the counter for ten minutes before there was a spare moment to take them to their rightful owners.
And I got about 2.50 in tips, which is maybe a third to a quarter of what I get on nights that are only half as busy.

On a better note, I found a periodical from 1887 today. It has engravings and melodramatic short stories and fashion articles and embroidery patterns and music and silly Victorian poems.

Piggy- I think Fox may be blowing this a bit out of proportion. After all, Fox is an EXTREMELY Conservative news network, whereas ABC is pretty bipartisan, but a little left-wing. So it would be understandable for Fox (and Republicans) to flip out about this. But really, is it that big of a deal? It’s a debate. A DEBATE. And since it’s going to be bipartisan, people from BOTH PARTIES will be asking questions. The only reason that Fox is giving for the Liberal-ness (sorry, no better word came to mind) of the debate is “This event will become a glorified infomercial to promote the Democrat agenda.” That’s not true. The point is a debate. People in the audience will be asking questions. This isn’t the “Democrat agenda;” it’s the President’s agenda. If McCain were president and had come up with this plan, Democrats would probably say the same thing. That’s just how politics is.

Sorry, should really take this to Hot Topics.

No one said or thinks any of those things. Everyone’s entitled to their opinions, and part of what’s so great about MuseBlog is that you’ll always find people to discuss them with. Reading over the discussion, it looks as though people were more or less stating their own opinions, and suggesting that saying “America is dead” might be a somewhat of an exaggeration. But it’s your opinion, and if people did think you should be thrown in jail for having an opinion… well, in that case America really would be dead.

I got a library card today, and I got Desolation Island at LAST, and also the BBC adaption of Bleak House, which is *seven hours long*.

Then I came home and found that there are a ton of movies, including Captain Horatio Hornblower from the 50s. According to Wikipedia Forester adapted it himself, so it should be pretty good. Even if it isn’t true to the books, it might still be good–look at the BBC version–and since I haven’t read A Ship of the Line or Flying Colours yet, I’ll only be able to point out all the problems in the first third of the movie. I don’t fancy the notion of Hornblower nursing Lady Barbara back to health–kissing was quite bad enough– but there you have it.
My biggest problem with Hollywood movies of that era is that everyone looks alike, something that probably applies equally to Hollywood movies of this era, but I don’t watch anything but Dr. Who and BBC adaptions of classic novels, so I can’t tell. Their being in black and white makes it much worse, of course, and the hair and makeup is all the same, and I’ve never been great at distinguishing faces even in full color, so I just get confused.

Oh! And the guy who plays Bush was in Dr. Who. I feel like half the world has been in Dr. Who at some point. I look up random actors and lo and behold, they’ve been in Dr. Who!

Oh, maybe it’s A&E. I think it is, actually. And yes, it’s very good. I know they’ve already made eight movies and they’re probably heartily sick of the whole business, but I can’t help hoping they would just go on to do the whole series, now that they’ve got as far as Hotspur–that’s the first four books. They could finish the rest in another eight movies, I’m sure. At least do Atropos, I liked that one. Beat to Quarters is not so great, but I’m sure the screenwriters could make it great.

*stares* *blinks several times* *falls out of chair*

I have been playing piano since first grade, and started the clarinet two Januaries ago! A tip for clarinet, esp if you are teaching yourself: Essential Elements 2000 (Comprehensive Band Method) is a good starter. I am on Book Four of that series (which means I’ve finished each book in about six-eight months) but you needn’t expect yourself to progress that fast, especially without a teacher. My teacher says I am about the same level now as a student that has played six+ years, and I already know all the music theory and rhythm and what symbols mean what, etc. But now, back to the topic. I definitely think EE2000 would be a good starter.

Also, how much do you practice each day? I do piano one hour, and clarinet thirty min. I find that what I learn with one instrument, I can apply to the other. For instance, playing the clarinet has greatly improved my sight-reading, which was pretty bad at first, and because I had already been playing the piano, I didn’t have to learn all the symbols and how to read music.

Good luck! And remember that I’m always willing to help.

Thanks so much for the help guys!! I’ll definitely look into the Essential Elements 2000 program-I already have two books I’ve bought, and I’ve spent some time on the computer searching for online lessons and tips, but another book would definitely be a help. As of right now, I practice piano around thirty min. a day, and clarinet for about the same time period. Unfortunately, I’ve been pretty busy recently and haven’t always been consistent in practicing, but I’m really determined to learn how to play-ESPECIALLY clarinet. That’s because next year, I really want to be good enough to play in my school band-most of the kids have been playing for years, so hopefully I’ll be able to catch up after practicing daily for three months. Thanks again for the tips!!

Also, kind of off topic but there’s this guy in my class (an Asian guy, I should mention) who always says that almost all Asian people play the piano, violin, or clarinet. I hate to admit it, but he’s right. I’m half Chinese, and right now I fit that description pretty well. And a number of my friends at school who are Asian also play one or more of the three instruments. Seriously, though, I have no idea why that is. Fireandhelmlock1996: you’re Japanese, right? (I think you posted something about that in the Hare and Hedgepig, but I’m not positive…I might be thinking of the wrong person.) Anyway, you’d fit the description too!

I think Iceland would actually be the perfect place from which to take over the world. The population is low, it was ranked in 2007 as the most developed country by the UN, it’s full of fjords, which are obviously perfect for hiding secret bases, and it’s very geologically active, which means free geothermic power for our nefarious plans. It’s economy’s rather bad, but we could just use the yuan if we really needed money. It’s president holds little power, so we could just skirt around the beurocracy to do what we need to do. It’s political system is multiparty, so we could just start a party there to infiltrate the government; there aren’t two dominating parties as there are in America, or even the three in the UK. I think learning Icelandic would be the most difficult part. Iceland is definitely the place to start things.

Me: “Uh, can I have… French Guiana?”
                Them: “Where? Sure thing! Hahahaha…”

The horse was either a zombie or asleep because he would barely move without you kicking him every two seconds, and his steering wasn’t that great either. Not that every horse camp is like that, just the one I went to. The reason that I got the zombie horse was probably that I was the least experienced rider in the group. You’ll probably get a fully awake horse. Hopefully it won’t rain.

I never got any actual American Girl stuff because it’s all corporate and made in sweatshops and all that, and I grew out of dolls anyway. We had quite a collection, though–cloth dolls and plastic dolls and baby dolls and fashion dolls and handkerchief dolls and corn-husk dolls. And we had a dollhouse made out of milk cartons and carpeted with upholstery samples and beds made of pillows or shoeboxes or anything we could get our hands on, really. We called it…something German. I don’t know how to spell it and I don’t actually remember what it literally translates to. It basically meant dollhouse anyway.

The parents love you for taking the kids, you get to dress up and have an excuse, many of the people handing out candy will thank you for taking the littler kids and give you something too and I suppose if you played your cards right you could even get paid for babysitting. Yes, I’m shameless. That’s also when you dress up very carefully lest there’s a chance that you’ll be found out and you don’t wish it to be known where you spent Halloween evening. Little kids can be so useful!

That said, I think this year it would be fun to have a bonfire and party with apple bobbing and dressing up and trying to scare the bejeebies out of each other. For good friends who won’t think the entire thing is completely lame, of course. It would be great if we could sail on the same ship sometime. *plots* We’ll see how this summer goes as far as sailing and all, and then maybe…..hmm. Logistical issues, but they can, and will, be overcome. Someday. The sooner the better. As soon as I get myself back to the West coast, you’d better believe there’s going to be a Kokon. Unless you come East first. Or maybe we can meet in the middle.

America schools: *has never done a standardized test* I’ve heard about tests… That bad, huh? Here… well, put it this way: in two music classes on the same grade level in my school, one veered off into music history and did almost nothing practical while the other sang and played instruments all year. The same goes for art: it depends entirely which teacher you have. I won’t even talk about the differences between schools. But the “main” subjects (math, german, french, latin) usually end up doing basically the same thing, though not necessarily at the same time and not in the same intensity. It’s an insane mess Slightly chaotic.

Re: American Girl dolls: I gushed over them for one summer, but eventually had to return to Austria empty-handed. I forgot about them after a while and went back to pestering my father about showing me how to make the eiffel tower out of legos (I’d inherited some, bought some and had quite a lot).

We didn’t use to have so many standardized tests. In MA, we have them every grade. No Child Left Behind caused all these standardized tests. When I was in 3rd? 2nd? grade, we were told there’s only MCAS (The MA state test) in 4th, 7th, and 10th grades. Now we have it every year. If you’re smart (AKA: Most MuseBloggers and the “Nerds”) then these are incredibly easy, so you do them they way you weren’t taught, making it a little more interesting. If you aren’t, then it’s either hard or boring.

With the classes, everyone has to do the same thing. The teachers have to teach to the curriculum. In 7th grade (at my school) there are normally 2 math classes. Integrated math (higher) and Connected math (lower). Fortunately, through some fighting, my math teacher* got three math classes. Those 2, and then the “hotshots” who went more in depth. I got into the hotshots, and the math class has been helpful, if chaotic. Recently, we were talking about numbers like n! . Our math teacher used the example of 69! photos of one of the girls in our class in different locations in the room. It turned out that every person who lived could have a stack of photos one billion light years every way, we’d have a lot left over. But it’s not usually that way. In all the other classes, everything is the same. I WANT TO DO MUSIC HISTORY!!!! We do a combination, but we focus one composer, stead of a period of music.

*THE BEST MATH TEACHER EVER. EVER. He’s British, and has an awesome** accent, and he’s ultra smart.

Music history was rather boring, but still preferable to music theory. *shudders*

The whole standardize test part sounds …strange to me because the system here is built very, very differently. There is a curriculum, but it isn’t that strict. And after 4th grade, you can (basically) either go to a Gymnasium or a Hauptschule.

Gymnasium is for the smarter students (all the MBers would be in one, trust me); you have to have good to excellent grades to get in, depending on which school. Each gymnasium has a special focus: mine teaches extra languages, others have sports, fashion design, music, e.t.c, even though the “better” ones are considered those most academically challenging. Getting into a good one (and graduating from it) is very important, almost same way colleges matter in America.

Hauptschulen basically prepare you for working and don’t have the Matura, an exam that’s required to enter any University. They don’t have any extra requirements for entry and are generally looked down upon by most Gymansiasten for obvious reasons.

But even the Matura isn’t standardized; the teachers submit the test questions. The good thing is that private (high) schools are seldom better/as good as public schools, i.e. most of the best schools are free.

I’ve been taking standardized tests since the third grade. In third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth grade, students take three major standardized tests about three weeks before the end of the year. In third through seventh grade there are two math and one reading comprehension, and in eighth grade there is one science, one reading, and one math. They’re all incredibly boring and they give you hours more time than anyone could possibly need; you’re not even allowed to read until everyone in your classroom has finished.

Happily, I took my last EOG (end of grade test) the year before this past, at the end of eighth grade. Unhappily, for high-school-level courses there are even more standardized tests called EOCs (end of course tests). I had to take math EOCs in seventh and eighth grade, along with wonderfully nonstandardized finals written by the teachers and district-written French finals. This year, I had a teacher-written final in World History, a district-written final in French, and (groan) EOCs in Biology, English, and Math.

The difference between EOGs and EOCs is that EOCs actually require more than minimal brainpower. Biology and English were still fairly easy, but the math EOC took me almost the entire three hours given and made my brain hurt afterward.

The nice thing about such long exam periods is that you have quite a lot of free time once you’ve finished the test. This can be a bad thing, of course, but in English I did a nice drawing of a beach on my scrap paper (which was sadly confiscated at the end of the test). During Bio, I got bored and spent twenty minutes drawing a saxophone in the middle of the test, and once everyone had finish the teacher kindly allowed us to talk.

I hate standerdized tests. They’re the most boring thing ever, and they’re completely useless. We spend all year learning stuff we’d never use just because some test says we’re dumb and can’t pass if we don’t. The English test is dead easy. I could pass our eighth grade English test in third grade. Math is difficult but only because I never study, Science is easy, and Civics is easy. We had a question on the Civics test about CHARACTER TRAITS. Really? How is that Civics? And don’t kindergarteners have the eight “character traits” on their agendas? Honestly, its sad that even our character is standerdized. If you don’t go by these eight traits, you’re a complete failure.

The Wimbledon finals will be Andy Roddick vs. Andy Murray, and Serena Williams vs. Venus Williams. They will take place at the same time, on two identical courts in parallel universes. Andy Williams (some random guy) will be in two places at the same time and award the prizes. At that moment, the parallel universe will merge, and become one. The planets will align, and the Bunnyborg will descend. Weird, right?

Dinner afterward was grand, we had fun even though I was seated across from a total bore, Lisa was next to me, and she’s a saint and so much fun.
Lisa and Betty and I did a skit, “The Week in Review” which was a condensed and exaggerated parody on what we’d done in the workshop. It was absolutely great, Lisa and Betty had apparently been planning it, and they let me join in, which was awesome. The entire party was in stitches, and poor Alex (our wonderful teacher) a few times was laughing so hard his face was beet red. Everyone else was choking into their napkins, Betty did an amazing job, she’s so funny even though you might not guess it at first. Her “diaphragmatic breathing” was hilarious, I had to go off to the side because I was nearly dying with laughter (so was everyone else, of course).
For being totally ad lib and unpracticed it was a total hoot. Even the waiter was laughing a few times, even though he probably didn’t catch why exactly it was so funny. Walking into a room of about 20 people in hysterics does seem to do that though.

I’ve never trusted sparklers. There’s just something about holding a flaming piece or cardboard in your hand that never appealed to me. Larger, more potentially dangerous fireworks are fine, but not sparklers. I’m even wary about those popper things where you pull the string and bits of confetti come out, though I have no problem with lighting a string of Black Cats and tossing them into a metal bucket. Or a family tradition we have. What you do is this: take a normal-sized tin can of some sort. Drill a firecracker-sized hole in the bottom, so you can stick a Black Cat or similar firecracker in so it will stay. Place the can open-end down in a bucket filled with about an inch of water. Put the firecracker into the hole in the bottom of the can as far as you can without letting it drop all the way through–you want only the wick sticking out. Light the wick, and step back. If you’ve prepared correctly, the can should shoot into the air a good thirty feet–it’s usually a competition to see who can catch it as it falls back down.

I just saw the old Hornblower movie. It was actually pretty good, although I found the total lack of English accents rather conspicuous in a movie about the Royal Navy. Also, LIEUTENANTS DON’T WEAR EPAULETTES!!!!!!!!! -deep breath- And Lady Barbara’s dresses seemed less than accurate, for the most part. Oh, and one more trivial complaint before I go on to attempt deeper criticism: Bush’s leg changed. First his left leg was wounded, then his right one. -shakes head sadly over moviemaker’s folly-
One thing none of the movies seem able to capture is Hornblower’s depressed, insecure side. The newer ones do a good job in places, but they make him far too cheerful in more places. Now that I’ve read the books I know that everything he does is permeated with doubt, and he does amazing things and then refuses to take credit for them in order to punish himself for things that no one else knows about. I don’t know. Maybe this one was better at that, but it still didn’t seem that great. His character is more complex than any of the movies let on. I can’t blame them, though, because, really, how are they going to show Hornblower’s private insecurities on screen? It all goes on in his head.
I’m wavering. First I think the old movie gets his character better, then I change my mind, and think the new ones do. But in any case, now I think about it, they’re practically two different characters anyway. Beat to Quarters was written long before the books on which the new movies are based, and I observed only a few days ago on Books and Reading how much the Hornblower of Beat to Quarters differs from the Hornblower of Hotspur and Atropos.

Anyway, I should get to bed–I have to babysit tomorrow at eight AM. -wanders off rambling-

    2) Under that, write the letters of the alphabet, A-Z so that the letters are all lined up.
    3) Encode your message by writing the letter in the motto that is above the letter in the alphabet. For the letters that appear more than once, add their order of appearance as a subscript or exponent (Or parentheses AFTER it when typing). (For instance, “F” would be under the first “O” and encoded as just “O”, but “H”, being under the SECOND “O”, would be encoded as “O(2)”)

AP Source: Michael Jackson dies in LA hospital
By NEKESA MUMBI MOODY and DERRIK J. LANG – 43 minutes ago
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Michael Jackson, the moonwalking former child star who became known the world over as the “King of Pop” before his life and career deteriorated in a freakish series of scandals, died Thursday, a person with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press. He was 50.
The person said Jackson died in a Los Angeles hospital. The person was not authorized to speak publicly and requested anonymity.
The circumstances of his death were not immediately clear. Jackson was not breathing when Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to a call at his Los Angeles home about 12:30 p.m., Capt. Steve Ruda told the Los Angeles Times. The paramedics performed CPR and took him to UCLA Medical Center, Ruda told the newspaper.
Jackson’s death brought a tragic end to a long, bizarre, sometimes farcical decline from his peak in the 1980s, when he was popular music’s premier all-around performer, a uniter of black and white music who shattered the race barrier on MTV, dominated the charts and dazzled even more on stage.
He was perhaps the most exciting performer of his generation, known for his feverish, crotch-grabbing dance moves, his high-pitched voice punctuated with squeals and titters. His single sequined glove and tight, military-style jacket were trademarks second only to his ever-changing, surgically altered appearance. Over the years, his skin became lighter and his nose narrower.

I practiced holding my breath (for when I’m stuck underneath a kayak) and then when I came up for air after forty-five seconds underwater my right leg just sort of knotted up and I had to go sit down for a couple of minutes before it felt entirely normal again. I’m not sure if it had anything to do with oxygen deprivation (I’d been repeatedly holding my breath for about five minutes) or if it was just a freak of nature, but I don’t fancy doing that again. My leg still sort of hurts where the knot was.

Then I found the fins or flippers or whatever they’re called and that was great. Then we went out for fries and then we went to the comic book shop and I got a Doctor Who comic. It was not as exciting as the actual TV show.

Now I think I’ll have some caffeine and take a shower, because I smell of chlorine and I’m in danger of falling asleep right here and now.
