Can we have a demigod RPG, where we all find out we’re demigods, and slay monsters and get prophecies and stuff?
Answer: Yes, you can, may, will, and now do have the requested thread.
Can we have a demigod RPG, where we all find out we’re demigods, and slay monsters and get prophecies and stuff?
Answer: Yes, you can, may, will, and now do have the requested thread.
This is my kind of RPG. I want to be a Archer. I think it should be like LOTR type world.
YES!!!!!!!!!!!
I’ll be a daughter of Athena.
Yes i think? Im not fully sure.
I want to be the moon godess daughter. I want to be 14,000 years old. I want to have a pony that is an Archer too.
Hi there! You must be new! A good place to stop is the Welcome Neophytes thread for welcomes and pies.
WH00t! Cool. I’d like to join. I had an interesting idea for a character: Vicky, (Victoria). She’s the daughter of Nike, and what she does is win. She always wins. Her problem/weakness is that she loses by winning -> for instance, say in a battle, she can’t stop fighting her opponent until she’s won, which sometimes takes a while. So her friend could be getting captured next to her but she wouldn’t be able to do anything. Or if someone says (for instance) “The person who loses this game of chess will get a bag of gold”, then she won’t get the bag. She can’t resist competing and playing games, but she often alienates people because she keeps beating them (and is arrogant at times). She lived with adoptive parents who didn’t know anything about the world of the gods, until suddenly monsters started dropping out of no-where and forced her to flee to camp. Another problem is that “winning” is relative; she could win and still get very badly hurt herself, and her winning doesn’t work on powerful monsters, gods and other very mighty figures. It usually works on other demigods, except in their “home fields”, i.e. she couldn’t beat a kid of Apollo in a singing competition.
I’m the son of Hercules that was away at war when he killed his family. My name is Mason(creative me). I am a skilled warrior with archery skills, and am strong like Hercules.
Hmm….
Name: Sudelan
Son of: Prometheus (God of Foresight. Well, Titan.)
Description: Light sandy hair, Black eyes. Short.
Personality: Usually depressed, because he knows which of his friends are going to die soonest.
Background: Adopted. He found out from Prometheus that he was Prometheus’s son, and made his way to the camp. He made friends with Vicky, as he didn’t get angry when she won. Is mainly a sociophobe, because he knows most people at camp are going to die a painful death.
I’ve got a description:
Name: Mason
Oldest son of Hercules
Brown hair, average height, muscular, kind to friends, overpowering and destructive to enimies.
Lives in ancient Greece.
Hercules is a demigod himself, so you’d be a demisemigod, right?
That, and he’s in ancient Greece, which is sort of not exactly where the rest of us are. At all.
On the Suggestion Box thread, some people wanted other mythologies (Norse, for example) to play a part, too. I think that’s a good idea. A pure Percy Jackson RPG wouldn’t be MuseBlog-like. We’ve rejected Harry Potter RPGs for that reason.
Perhaps we could use all kinds of different mythologies, and come together to fight the underworld or maybe even fight each other.
It could be that the underworld deities of the various mythologies have joined together because they don’t like ruling the dead and want to take control of the heavens and Earth.
Sounds good. Are we going with a roughly Percy Jackson-esque setting? As in, there’s a camp for all the demigods, all the mythological monsters around, etc? I wouldn’t mind that at all. In fact, I rather think it would be a pretty good setting.
I’d suggest staying away from Percy Jackson parallels as much as possible.
Don’t make fun of me, but who is Percy Jackson? I’ll probally remember after you tell me.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians is a series of books that just came out, about the modern-day children of the ancient greek gods. It’s a good series; I’d recommend it.
Percy Jackson is the protagonist of a series called Percy Jackson and the Olympians. The first book, The Lightning Thief, is coming out as a movie in February.
Which is a very good way to destroy a book.
True… But something like that is such a good idea for getting us all into a place where we can interact with each other… Maybe a school instead? Like a boarding school? Could work… I like that idea. Wait, of course I do.
Maybe make it a school and not a camp.
Hehe. So are you telepathically connected to me, or is this a case of ‘Great Minds think alike?’
Well, I’m an X-Men fan, so when I think of kids with powers, I think of them going to a boarding school.
Good idea. Just imagine that my post says school instead of camp.
A boarding school that demigods go to that are from different mythologies that is then attacked by demons and monsters that are trying to take over earth.
What?!?! But, but…I love Percy! No, it’s ok. I understand what you are saying.
Aw, why must Hades be evil? I’ve always wanted to write about him being simply misunderstood.
I don’t think the Greeks considered Hades evil. Gloomy, unpopular, unsociable, yes, but still an Olympian god with an unusually difficult job to do.
I want to play… but I’m on too many RPGs already… but I WANT to play…
So do I… But the Sci Fi RPG is dying (if not dead).
Or maybe that’s just an excuse to join…
Wait, there’s a such thing as too many RPGs? Since when?
Well, it can be a lot to keep straight and to keep posting on when many are active at once.
Because I totally have a character I would want to be, too.
Okay, I got my brother’s opinion. He says I should TRY being on this RPG. If it doesn’t work out, I’ll take myself out of one. So I’m going to do that.
I think that there should definitely be different mythologies involved. I’d like to join, but haven’t thought of a character yet.
6 – Why do Sudelan’s friends die at all? Does he tell them?
He can’t change the future. If he tells them, they die anyway.
((Okay, I badly want to do this. It’s going to kill my NaNo for a few days, but I’d be reading it anyway. I think I’m going to have two characters… Hm… Off to research mythologies other than Greek. Egyptian, namely.))
Name: Ikora
Age: 14
Child of: Loki (the Norse god of tricksters)
Description: Longish white-blonde hair, very straight… usually worn in a braid. Ice-blue eyes that are sometimes laughing and sometimes cold. Short, but gives off an aura of “tallness” so that most people think she’s tall.
Personality: Do I even need to say? Tricky. Very, very tricky. No one can tell what she’s thinking, and she’s really good at games of chance (although who knows, maybe she’s cheating). A lot of the other demigods hate her, depending on who their parents are–children of any goddess of love, for a start. Loki played lots of tricks on Freya.
Background will come later.
I want to make another character, too, who’s a child of a shinigami, just ’cause that would be awesome. I mean, i like Greek mythology as much as the next girl (kinda obsessed, actually) but Robert’s right, we should really mix it up a little.
(( Forget mythology – I’m being Pseudo and the demigod is my science teacher, Mr. Sharp! Henceforth on this thread I am Pseudo. But not in post name. ))
————————————————————————————————-
Since I do not have my favorite demigod for Science, I am forced to worship from afar. But it’s ok – I made a shrine, at home. I got my friend K to take a picture of him for me with her cell phone. Then I blew it up on my computer and stuck it on the mirror in my room. Bubblebabe got really annoyed because she couldn’t look in the mirror – what a jackanape. Anyway, who cares about her?
Monday in school I went to Mr. Sharp’s class first thing in the morning to look at Isaac, his pet tarantula – can demigods have familiars, like witches? Anyway. Anyone can come in his room and there were already several luckily-blessed Sharp-homeroomians sitting at the desks.
———————————————————————————————-
(( I’m bored. That’s all folks. ))
((I’m sorry, but could you possibly RP that somewhere else? It looks like your storyline is going to be very different from ours. If you would like to join this RPG, please create a character that is a child of a Greek, Roman, Norse, etc. deity and provide a description of them, including background. Then you can write parts of this story from their perspective.))
((I’ve noticed you doing this before, bubblebabe; posting something that has nothing to do with the story on a RPG thread. I don’t have a problem with you joining the RPGs, but please do not post things unconnected with the thread. It clogs things up, and annoys quite a few people. RPG threads are not solo writing projects; they’re a collaborative project in which we all write, sticking to the rules we’ve put down for ourselves. Please do this in the future.
))
On the good side, I notice you are using double parentheses. Thanks.
Can I be Thor’s genderless…ummm…progeny?
Yeah. You can hate me. XD Somehow, I always seem to have characters that are either extremely hated or extremely loved…..
I don’t think my character does hate yours …unless you want me to.
Name: Akari
Progeny of: Thor
Physical Description: Short, slight brunette; gray eyes and freckles
Personality: Humorous. Generally nice, but easily irritated and can be kind of short-tempered. Clever, but not well educated.
History: ??? This will probably be worked out later…
SFTDP
Okay, I think I’m male now. Also, can I have a Phillip’s head screwdriver instead of a hammer?
You are now one of my favourite people for suggesting that.
-A
((Right. My characters:
Alexandria
Daughter of Amon, god of the wind and hidden things
Description: Black hair, dark eyes, slightly tanned, lean and tall.
Powers: She can call winds, and both hide and find nearly anything.
Personality: Rather secretive and distant. She also gives a slight impression of lordliness. (Amon was sometimes considered King of Gods.) If you lose something while she’s around and you know you put it down right there, look up high. She’s not above playing practical jokes, and she loves hiding things in places that are hard to reach
Adonia
Daughter of Demeter, goddess of harvest
Description: Average hight, warm brown eyes, golden hair.
Powers: Can make plants grow wherever she wants, very quickly.
Personality: She’s fairly forgiving and kind, but her wrath is unleashed on anybody who uselessly harms plants. Admittedly, her wrath isn’t very frightening. She doesn’t believe in weeding; she believes in moving plants to a place where they can grow without disturbance.
History (of both):
They’re first cousins, but they generally consider themselves to be sisters. They were born at nearly the same time. Adonia’s father, upon discovery of the divine nature of his daughter, immediately turned her over to his sister, without telling her anything except the girl’s name, and ‘her mother can’t keep her’. Alexandria’s mother knew nothing until the girls were eight, at which point she nearly simultaneously witnessed Adonia growing something out in the garden, and Alexandria keeping a small parachute aloft with her winds. The poor woman screamed and fainted, and when she came to, asked the children what on earth they were doing, and how. They told her they’d always been able to do it, and they didn’t know why. She called her brother, and he told her everything. Since then, she’s been doing her best to both keep the knowledge from them and protect them. It hasn’t been easy, and she’s doing amazingly.
By the way, Alexandria and Adonia haven’t heard about the camp, (What are we calling it? Camp Half-Blood? I kinda think we should think of something else… But whatever.) They will soon, don’t worry.))
((I think there should be one for each mythology. They should be like colleges, with intense rivalries.
Norse: Thor’s Academy- colors: black and yellow
Greek: The Z and the H- colors: Gold and purple
Egyptian: R. A. Son college- colors: Red and navy blue.
More info on Sudelan:
-Goes off to try and find demigods, of all types.))
Name: Cleo (yes, short for Cleopatra)
Age: 13
Child of: Bastet (the Egyptian goddess of cats, among other things)
Description: Medium dark skin, long black hair, startlingly green eyes with extremely long lashes. Medium height, sort of skinny but more… lithe. She has cat ears, a tail and whiskers; if you push her hair back (which she never does) she doesn’t have any “normal” ears. She has three piercings in her left ear with two gold studs and a hoop, and the right ear has a larger gold stud in it.
Personality: Catlike. Kind of fickle, but makes friends easily. Happy most of the time, but when she’s mad, you do not want to cross her. When she’s happy, you’ll sometimes catch her purring; when she’s mad, she’ll growl, and she hisses at people who startle her. If she gets upset at someone, she’ll swat them or scratch them–her nails aren’t that long, but her claws come out when she’s angry. Certain people she’s gotten angry with have three scars on their right cheeks, as a warning. Sometimes the scars glow at night…
Background: (for her and Ikora) Cleo and Ikora have been best friends since they were three, when Cleo’s slightly crazy father sent her to preschool despite her…. abnormalities. Ikora was the only one who didn’t make fun of her, and she offered to get back at Cleo’s enemies–only to discover that Cleo could, er, handle things herself. Ikora’s mother remarried and never told her about her father–in fact, she didn’t seem to know herself–but Ikora and Cleo figured out some semblance of their past for themselves. Neither of them has met their divine parent.
And…. I have about three more. Jeez, I’m never going to be able to handle this RPG on top of everything else… but I like Kai’s idea about the underworld gods banding together and the rest of the demigods fighting them. My half-shinigami character (who’ll be male) could join the underworld side, since a shinigami is an underworld deity… I also want to have a character who’s a child of Selene (the Greek moon goddess) and one who’s a child of Gaia (Mother Earth).
((Ooooooh, this looks like fun!!))
Name: Ingrid (don’t ask, it just popped into my head)
Description: She has bright blue eyes, and wavy, sun-streaked brown hair. He skin is kind of a tan/gold color. She is petite.
Life: She is the daughter of the Greek sea nymph Ino (from the Odyssey), but is raised by her dad, who is a marine biologist. She is on the swim, dive, and synchronized swimming teams at school. She’s pretty flexible and once did gymnastics, which may help in future battles…? She’s sweet and optimistic, but she has trouble in school. Sports and things are no problem, but she isn’t so fond of dirt. She has trouble committing to projects and deadlines, but does good work when she actually focuses. This doesn’t mean that she won’t be committed to whatever cause she’s join. She is very passionate about saving the environment, especially the oceans.
Special abilities: She is a very fast swimmer and can hold her breath much longer than a normal person.
((I was thinking of maybe creating a character whose parent is an African god, since no one seems to made one yet. Hmm.))
Hey, guys? I have a ton of ideas for characters, so could I maybe put them up for grabs if anyone doesn’t feel like coming up with a character and wants to use mine?
The million dollar question- do the Old Muses count as gods?
I guess they could, but there really not gods they are more like demigods but not at the same time.
I’d say yes. They were the daughters of the Goddess of Memory, and I’m assuming their father was Zeus, partially because I think I read that somewhere, and partially because any deity where the father is unspecified is Zeus’s child, at least in greek. It’s kinda interesting. Anyway, I’m pretty sure they do.
((Okay, how many characters can we have? I’m new to roleplaying on MB.
Name: Annette
Parent: Hermes
Description: Short dark reddish-brown hair and brown eyes, short, slightly tan.
Personality: Short-tempered, sarcastic, harsh. She often has good intentions but comes off rather cruel. Bit of a thief.
Background: I’ll get to that later.))
We can have as many characters as MBers want to join.
Actually, you could have as many as you want, but it’s best to have one or two (so that it doesn’t get too confusing
).
Name: Anna Miller
Daughter of: Hestia, goddess of the hearth
Description: Thirteen years old. Short and thin, with long reddish-brown hair, large blue eyes, and pale skin. Wears normal-ish clothes, usually a T-shirt and jeans.
Personality: Quiet and calm, and generally unnoticed by her peers. Could be considered boring, but is actually an interesting person once you get to know her. She cares about others, and will anonymously help anyone who needs it. (Think Stargirl.) Like most demigods, she has ADHD and dyslexia, so school is a struggle for her. This, along with mishaps involving her powers (see below) has gotten her kicked out of two schools.
Powers: Can control fire and warmth. Occasionally this is useful (she can grill a sandwich just by touching it and concentrating hard), but usually it’s more of an inconvenience, because it’s hard to control and she can accidentally set things on fire when she’s angry.
Um… I have to nitpick and point out that Hestia vowed to remain a maiden forever and all that, so… I don’t know. We could overlook it I suppose… It would be bothering me, but I can deal with that.
((I originally wanted to be a daughter of Hestia but then I remembered that she’s a maiden also. I don’t think it matters too much on here, it wouldn’t really bother me although if we want to be mythologically correct…))
Eep. Well, Annabeth is a daughter of Athena and she’s a maiden … maybe children of Hestia rise from the ashes of the Olympus hearth or something? Or I could just get rid of this character and make up another one?
Child of Athena!!!
‘K, here goes:
Name: um, *thinks*- ah! Her name is Mia.
Tall, thin, red-brown hair. Silver-gray eyes, obviously. Tanned skin. Wears practical T-shirts (usually with witty slogans on them) and shorts. Or on formal occasions, jeans.
Extremely smart! Has memorized most of the encyclopaedia, good vocabulary, okay math, and Russian, Mandarin, French, Spanish, Hindi, and of course English.
Can turn partially invisible and hover. Is able to fly short distances, but becomes exhausted from this (short distances= up to 2k nonstop). Very good archer.
Owns a silvery-glowing bow (I know, I know- the Hunters of Artemis) and a regenerative quiver.
Honestly, I think the partially invisible and hovering is a bit over-the-top. You can be smart. But if you get special flashy powers just because you want to have them, then everyone else will want them too, or will think it’s unfair that you have them and they don’t.
Here, I’ll make a deal with you. I won’t bring up that really, it’s Apollo’s children who are archers if you give up those powers.
Yes, Apollo and Artemis are the archer twins.
Right. But Artemis doesn’t have children.
Hraff! ‘K, no hovering. But invisibility. Look it up- Athena can turn invisible.
Name: Maya
Parent: Pan
Age: 11
Description: Wild, sandy hair, average height, greenish-brownish eyes that turn more green in the summer and more brown in the winter.
Personality: Curious, shy, calm. Doesn’t get angry too often. She spends most of her time outside in the woods.
Powers: Maya can make stuff grow by concentrating on it. Once, she made a vine grow into a room through the window.
Maya’s mother is often away. She’s been going on business trips ever since Maya was 8, and her aunt is no longer able to care for them when her sister is away.
Maya’s stepfather died in a war. Her stepbrother’s in college, and her mother, needing a place for Maya to go, and not knowing the school was for demigods, agreed to enroll Maya.
Maya’s met one monster before, but someone came and stopped it. She never found out who. (Maybe it could be someone’s character…)
There seems to be too many Greek demigods, so..
I’ll have Maya be the daughter of Nótt, the Norse goddess of the night (off of bookgirl’s list). Her father goes away often, and her adopted brother is cared for by her aunt. Maya was enrolled in the demigod school because her father unknowingly agreed to let her go.
I’ve got an idea that will agree with most peoples. We should all go to boarding schools. We can all go to different schools based on the mythologies we are in. The story can be the underworld attacking, or it could even be more like Harry Potter. We should get the story down before we get all exited on our characters because the storys you guys are making may not go with the actual story and confuse everyone.
((25 – I agree. But making characters isn’t an awful thing, although getting everybody on the same page with the story line right now should be our main goal, then we can focus on characters.
RQ – I’m having an unusual case of writer’s block right now and can’t think of a character. If you have any extras you want to share, I’m open to ideas. I originally wanted to be a child of Athena, but now I’m thinking of going for something a little different. Preferably in Greek mythology.
Can’t wait to get this started. I like the idea of monsters invading a boarding school/s or us fighting in the underworld, although the underworld isn’t really a common enemy for everyone. In fact, I actually think the underworld is judged unfairly a lot of the time.))
It’s not that the underworld is bad by definition, it’s that the deities ruling it have decided that they’d rather rule the living than the dead.
25- Actually, I think most people are still brain-storming. After all, this is the start of this RPG. Speaking of confusing, could you try to work on your grammar? I know, I’m a bit rude at times, but it really annoys me. Don’t take it too seriously.
16.1- Yes! That would be great. Can this school not be in America? What about, say, Bermuda? We could RP everyone getting there. Maybe Victoria could have met Sudelan on the way to the school; they’d make a good team since while she may be good at winning, she’s only been competing/fighting against mortals and not monsters where she’s easily outgunned (which is a bit of a hard realization at first).
More about Victoria:
Basically, she grew up in an ideal world and learned to love competition, games and challenges since she was competing against mortals and always won. She managed to keep her grades up by betting with her classmates on who would get which mark. She also learned to love competing that way which enforced her natural fascination with fights, games and gambles (yes, she’s going to be in deep do-do when she meets Ilkora), to the point where she seems to gravitate towards such things. She grew up in a small suburb of Miami in a sheltered neighborhood. She started encountering “weird people” who seemed like monsters when she started 7th grade, but managed to dodge them until the summer before entering sophomore year at school (she skipped Kindergarten and went straight to first grade, so she’s 14 but acts older), when suddenly a monster showed up and she couldn’t fight it. Her arm got broken and she only escaped because the monster made a mistake and stepped out onto the road and was ran over by a car. If not for this bizarre stroke of luck, she’d have been dog food (it was a sort of hound). This traumatized her in a way; her first real encounter with a life-threatening situation, no-one else could see that it was a monster and she couldn’t defeat it. After hearing some howling a few months later, she ran away and met Sudelan at some point. Somehow, the two of them make it to the school (Enc?).
Sorry about my grammer, but I didn’t see anything that was wrong. I like your idea of the school(s) in the Bermuda Triangle.
You spelled “grammar” wrong.
Hmm…
Sudelan was searching for the school when he found Vicky. He told her about it and they decided to search together. Sudelan knows that the school is somewhere warm, since he knows not to pack heavy clothes. They try Bermuda, as it’s closest. Vicky and him manage to sneak into a casino. Vicky wins money because she always wins, and Sudelan usually wins, because he knows which are more likely than others. They get enough money for a plane trip to Bermuda, by visiting as many casinos as possible, and when they get there, they are attacked by a few monsters, who prowl around the school, searching for newcomers. Vicky is badly injured, but Sudelan drags her out, and they find the school.
mas0n: The stories we’re making are the backstories for our characters, not the actual plot. And, it’s Percy Jackson, not Harry Potter.
Must it be somewhere so… tropical??
What’s wrong with tropical?
Heat, humidity, bugs, leeches…
Ooh, yes, the heat’s terrible! So is the humidity…and the mosquitoes…but I don’t think we have leeches
Okay, so I notice a lot of people wanting different schools. I’d be okay with that, except that since most people have half-Greek characters, the rest of the schools would have about two people in them. What if it was one school, in Bermuda or wherever, with three different wings, with all sorts of people from all the different mythologies teaching the different sections? Sort of like houses in MA or Harry Potter, only different. Sorta. Anyway, you like it?
I think one school is probably the best idea.
I like the one school with different houses idea.
Yes, a school with different houses sounds good. Instead of house membership being based off of background, what if it’s on merits/traits/special abilities? Kind of like MA? There could be a test, or you pick your house.
SFTDP
Bermuda as a location would be excellent, at least for my character.
I like the one school with different houses. If the houses aren’t based on mythology, then what are going to be based on? I guess it could be by skill, but what could we call the houses?
Will the children of different gods/goddesses be in separate classes like at Camp Half-Blood?
Maybe classes are by their divine parent’s “aspect”, such as Love, War, Art, Intelligence, Nature, etc.
You’re right, more than one school would get to be very confusing. I like the idea of having different houses/wings for the different mythologies.
Anna’s background:
Hestia fell in love with a mortal man, and used her powers to create a child for them, shaped from the ashes of the Olympus fire. (Since Anna wasn’t born the normal way, Hestia wasn’t breaking her vow. Like Athena in the real series.) She gave the baby to its father to raise.
Thirteen years later, Anna’s father has a girlfriend, Suzy. He wants to marry her, and feels that Anna needs a mortal mother. Suzy is nice enough, but she doesn’t know that Greek gods are real. She was told that Anna is an adopted child and her parents are unknown, because Mr. Miller thought she wouldn’t like knowing about Hestia.
Mr. Miller can see through the Mist, and he suspects that Suzy can as well. For this reason, he fears that Suzy will discover the truth about Anna’s parentage, and refuse to marry him.
After Anna was kicked out of her second school because of a fire she accidentally started, Mr. Miller decided to send her to the demigod school. Suzy, like almost all mortals, believes that it is a prestigious school for gifted children.
((28- I agree too. It would probably be easiest to separate the demigods according to mythology, but I think that the teachers should come in equal amounts from all three mythologies and classes should be held together (groups of very few people can get very boring).
Here’s the list of characters so far (yes, I always feel the need to organize things):
Greek Mythology
Olympic gods:
Mas0n- son of Hercules- mas0n
Adonia- daughter of Demeter- Errata
Annette- daughter of Hermes- onomatopoeia
Anna- daughter of Hestia- Rainbow*Star
Mia- daughter of Athena – Kokopelli52
Other greeks:
Sudelan- son of Promotheus- Enceladus
Maya- daughter of Pan- SilverLeopard
Victoria- daughter of Nike- bookgirl_me
Ingrid – daughter of Ino – vanillabean3.141
Norse Mythology
Ilkora- daughter of Loki- Rosequartz
Akari- child of Thor- Pseudonym
Egyptian Mythology
Alexandria- daughter of Amon- Errata
Cleo (Cleopatra) – daughter of Bastet- RoseQuartz
I thought that perhaps we could split the greeks in two houses (to make it more even) and perhaps condense the Norse and Egyptian houses into one, if no-one else want to make characters from those mythologies; there are still lots of interesting gods up for grabs.
Oh, and here are some suggestions Enc made for colors (meant for seperate schools, but we need house colors too):
Norse colors: black and yellow
Greek colors: Gold and purple
Egyptian: colors: Red and navy blue.
The color thing is going to bother me, but oh well.
We could also RP characters from different gods. I was thinking Ingrid would have a friend who is the daughter of an African goddess, and that might bulk up the different houses a bit.
It was bothering me, too, but I wasn’t going to mention it, since I figured I was nitpicking. If it bothers two people…
I admit, I’m having a bit of trouble seeing how red or navy blue relate much to egyptian. And it kinda looks to me like Greek got the best colors.
And, as long as I’m nitpicking, I can point out that the Greeks actually wore very little purple, because it’s incredibly hard to make a purple dye. (Yes, I know this stuff. Don’t ask me how.)
Maya’s a daughter of Nótt, the Norse goddess of the night, now.
((Oh, I must not have seen that. Okay, just pretend she doesn’t have horns, then.))
There should be some kind of competition running between the houses, like the house points thingy in Harry Potter.
Maybe instead of points we could make up some kind of sport for houses to play against each other.
Yeah, that’s a good idea.
By the way, I’m going to have my character be a daughter of Iris, though I haven’t put her on here yet.
Yeah, like maybe some kind of battle arena, maybe against each other or against beasts? I’m not sure…but it would be quite an interesting sport!
((What about Capture the Flag?))
((We don’t want this to be just like PJ. We could make up a school sport…))
((Okay then, what’s some other physical sport that involves a lot of people and at least some kind of strategy?))
((Some kind of treasure/scavenger hunt racing to find things before the other team like that one test with the scrolls* in Naruto?
(*I don’t watch the show, my brothers do, they told me about it.)))
((I like that idea.))
I think that could work. Now, how would we choose teams?
Sorry to double post, I apologize for forgetting my double parentheses.
I’d like to make a Norse demigod.
Name: Dauði
Parents: Hel (Yes, I know she’s physically incapable of having children, just wait.) The half-dead death goddess. No biological father.
Description: Tall, pale, dark hair and gray eyes. Did not inherit her mother’s trait of being dead from the waist down, so she looks relatively normal.
Background: Hel wanted to have a minion to help her torture her victims in Niflheim, so she tore a sliver of dead flesh from her leg, and threw it on the ground. She got more than she bargained for though, when she miscalculated and accidentally made a living demigod instead of an undead minion. She decided to keep the girl and raise her as her daughter. When Dauði was eight, she had snuck out into the nearby graveyard yet again. She was sitting by a grave, contemplating the folly of putting out flowers for the dead who could not enjoy them, when upon picking up a rose to examine it, she pricked her finger on a thorn. a single drop of her blood fell onto the grave, where the corpse buried there suddenly came to life. Dauði brought him back to her mother, who was pleased that she had inherited this power. Together they honed her skills, and when she was old enough, Hel sent her to the demigod school.
Traits: Quick to anger, loner, powers of necromancy, black blood, mild necrophilia
This is a great idea. I’d love to be an Egyptian demigod, if I may!
Name: Omorose
Gender: Female
Parents: Isis (Egyptian goddess of nature and magic) and Abasi, an Egyptian warrior who perished in battle. Omorose is therefore the sister of Horus and has been alive since 3150 B.C.
Appearance: Medium height, light golden skin, braided black hair and pale brown eyes. She wears a white linen dress and sandals all of the time.
Background: Omorose was the secret child of Isis and a praised war leader, Abasi, who conquered many lands for ancient Egypt. Isis feel in love with Abasi after Osiris left Egypt to battle his evil and corrupt brother Set. She grew lonely and created a child with Abasi, a daughter, into whom she placed her one half of magical traits and personal spirit, making Isis herself weaker but not weak enough that Set and his minions could take over the Egyptian lands while Osiris was away. Their love was discovered and Abasi was murdered by the jealous Osiris shortly after Omorose was created, but Osiris went on not knowing that Isis had a daughter. The goddess hid her only daughter in a safe cavern beneath the Nile, which she created so that no non-magical being could ever find her there by any means. She planned to have Omorose rule over the earth alongside Horus when she came of age. However, on the fourteenth birthday of Omorose, Osiris was able to take advantage of Isis’ weakened half-power to draw from her the secret that she had another child, and one who retained the powerful healing magic of his wife. Osiris drew Omorose from her cavern in a rage and was about to destroy her completely, but upon seeing Isis’ grief and love for the child, he decided to seal her instead into a tomb for thousands of year until she awoke with no memory of her past life. However, he was not able to destroy her powers, and Omorose still retains them.
She was discovered wandering, entranced, in a sacred pyramid by a pair of archaeologists on a journey through the lost tombs of Giza. Thinking her to be a forgotten child, they took her under their wing and brought her to be their child in America. They didn’t have any idea of her real identity until they discovered that she could heal wounds in the blink of an eye when her father, Rick Hastings, broke his leg and she fixed it. Since then, she had shown many signs of magical ability such as levitating household objects, communicating with the unborn and with animals, and although she passed by more ad more birthdays she never grew any older. Finally, Anabel Hastings discovered that she was the lost daughter of Isis in a strange revelation from the Gods. Isis was forbidden to reunite with her daughter by Osiris, but she sent a secret message Omorose’s foster mother through a very realistic dream relaying to her the secrets of the past. Omorose still doesn’t know who she is, and doesn’t know what the camp her parents are sending her to is truly for.
Traits: She is kind to anyone she meets, especially animals, with whom she has a special connection. Her magical powers range from levitation to healing spells, although she is yet to discover more. She has an innate fighting skill inherited from her birth father, and, for some strange reason, has a personal connection with the dead (possibly because of Osiris). She is quiet and shy, but opens up once she is spoken to. She likes to help people, and says yes to almost anything.
When in battle, she grows the horns of a cow with the solar disc between them.
((Oops. I meant school, not camp. Sorry! *headdesk*))
Desperately need break from homework (which I’ve barely started) and would feel guilty if I NaNoed instead of writing up a Site Visit Observation Report. Somehow MuseBlog does not spawn the same sort of guilt. So I will wander the world map using the Internet and find a god I like so I can RP their progeny.
Name: Alex
Gender: Female
Parents: Coyote the trickster from Native American mythology and a human woman.
Appearance: Medium height. Appears of Native American blood, with dark hair in many braids with beads running through them. Dresses in modern clothing, often in a jean jacket with many pins on it, jeans, Converse, and a shirt with the anarchy symbol on it.
Background: Alex was raised with her human mother in San Francisco, but tends to take after her father. She learned about her godly heritage at the age of thirteen, and thoroughly misuses the powers she was born with in order to play tricks on people, often uncaring about whether she’s hurting people or not. Alex is not a nice person. (I get to RP a villain! *joy*) She is clever but lazy, greedy but filled with an urge to get out and make the world a more interesting place. She doesn’t know why she’s being sent to a new school, but she assumes it has to do with the “completely accidental” incident at her last one. She intends to make her new school as interesting as it can be.
((Holy cow, that’s a lot of posts.
My characters:
Daughter of Apollo and Archeologist (Archaeologist? What’s the difference?), Susan
Name: Lillian
Description: light brown, mousy hair, usually up in a tight ponytail. She has blue, grey eyes, but in battle, they glow gold. She usually wears jeans, a t-shirt with a punny saying, and her special bow, Archimedes, across her shoulder, in the form of a messenger bag. Archimedes can also change into a lire.
Background: Her mother was digging for artifacts in Greece, when Apollo came to her in museum director form. He was visiting there.
Lillian doesn’t know about this, until the day she turned 10 (September 3rd). Her mother promptly sent her to *insert name* school, where she was dropped into a world of monsters and magic. She reacted very well, and logically, to the situation, and made a strong bond with one of her peers – Stephan – who helped her through it. They’ve been good friends ever since.
Son of Athena and Lead Singer of unknown band, Jonathan.
Name: Stephen
Description: square framed glasses (grey), brown messy hair, and a crooked grin. Usually wears a rumpled polo and worn jeans. Always carrying different books around *insert school*.
I have to go now, so I’ll finish this later. We’re having a fondue – and Glee dinner!))
This is probably a good time to ask…what should the school be called? I cast my vote for Antediluvian Academy.
I like that name.
So do I. Besides, it doesn’t really give away anything, so it could be used for outside people as well. I can just imagine that…
“It’s a prestigious school. In Bermuda. It’s called the Antediluvian Academy. It… Specializes in history.”
Yeah! Also if the child doesn’t know where the parents are sending them…
“You’ll have a lot of fun there. It’s a boarding school, they teach ancient history and genealogy, which we know you will like. It’s called the Antedeluvian school…er, no, Academy, I think. There are kids just like you there, you’ll make great friends.”
I like that idea. My vote goes to that.
Ooh! I’d like to join!
My character’s background is based on an actual legend (I was about to write true legend, but that wouldn’t work XD) about the daughter of the Jade Emperor falling in love with a mortal cowherd. Look it up on Wikipedia: search Jade Emperor
The legend doesn’t say anything about them having a child, though, and that’s where my literary license comes in useful…
Name: Meilin (çŽ‰ç¾Žç³ – 玉 (Yu) is the last name, it means Jade. Usually a child would take the last name of ens father, but this was an exception as Meilin’s father was ONLY a mortal, so instead she took her mother’s last name, which is the same as the Jade Emperor’s. Hence the jade.)
Ancestry: Daughter of 織女 (who is the daughter of Jade Emperor) and a mortal cowherd named 牛郎, hence the demigod status. (I like saying hence)
History: the Jade Emperor is angry at his daughter for having a child with a lowly mortal cowherd and bans her from ever seeing her daughter. Meilin is raised by 牛郎’s family and has no idea she is only half-mortal until her 11th birthday when her grandfather the Jade Emperor allows her mother to send Meilin to *name of school* to have an education with other demi-gods.
Birthday: the seventh day of the seventh month of the lunar calendar. Her parents are separated all year by the river the Jade Emperor had created (the Milky Way) except for this one day, and the Jade Emperor arranged to allow them to be together for the birth of their child.
Appearance: jet-black long hair, large almond-shaped black eyes. Pretty. Chinese (duh)
If there’s nothing else I need to add….
37- The seperated lovers? I know that star myth! Her parents are symbolized by the stars Vega and Altair!
Yup. That’s the one
I have a thing with Vega, so I learned most of the legends associated with it.
In elementary school we sometimes learned about the legends and myths associated with any upcoming Chinese festivals. Something to do with learning more about Chinese culture in Chinese class, rather than just the language. So, I picked up a lot of legends there.
Can we start writing soon? I’m kinda psyched for this one.
Oooh, this RPG looks good. I’m pondering the Athena-child thingy, but if I went with what I really looked and acted like, you’d think I was copying Annabeth from Percy Jackson. Hmm, I must strive for originality. *hunts for D’Aulaires’*
((Yeah, same here. In fact, if I had done Athena which I was originally planning to, I probably would have done something along the lines of Annabeth…I guess that’s the one (and only) downside to reading PJO…you tend to think of Greek mythology only in Percy Jackson-ish terms, and that can get confusing, especially for me when I’m in school.
Ah well, still not enough to get me over it.))
Athena’s pretty artistic, she could probably make a child out of some inanimate material.
I suppose she could weave a child out of a tapestry. That might be interesting… *ponders*
(( Apologies, RoseQuartz! Since I caked up the thread I guess I will be a lowly owl messenger for whoever wants me. Name: Sarius. Brown. Brown-eyed. Not especially fast at flying. Lovable in a grows-on-you sort of way. ))

Wow. We have exactly 3 male demigods at this school out of 20 total characters. While typical of an RPG, this is also sort of weird. Do gods tend to have female children or something?
((I can become a guy…))
I’ve been considering making another character (son of Set) to be an antagonist, and a guy. I think I’ll do that tomorrow when I have time.
I could join, to add to the male member count. Of course, knowing my track record, I’m not going to promise he’ll be any good for romance.
Although seriously, we don’t just need guys for the romance factor. It just helps overall to spread everything out and give us a little more variety.
Oh, if you’re looking for “variety”, I should definitely join. My characters are about as variable [grammar? Oh, who cares?] as it gets.
((Okay, here comes a guy character! I didn’t want to have two characters, but we do need more guys and I like writing Egyptian myths. I’ve got a huge fascination with ancient Egyptian culture.))
Name: Adrian (Sebak)
Gender: Male
Parents: Set (Egyptian god of chaos and disaster), no biological mother
Appearance: He is tall, has tan skin and ebony eyes, and straight black hair. For lack of a better word, he is handsome as well, and although attractive to lots of girls he can be extremely frightening in his godlike form. He normally wear a black shirt and khaki pants, nothing to distract from the norm.
Background: Set, the younger brother of Osiris the god of the dead, became jealous of his brother’s wife Isis and their child, Horus. He plotted to overthrow Osiris, Isis, Ra and Horus to become the king of the pantheon and ruler of the living and the dead. However, he found that he was not strong enough to take on this task himself.
Set stole one of the Ushabti idols of Anubis from the tomb of the great Pharaoh Ramses, and, using his destructive magic in reverse, he was able to form a being out of the clay figure, meant to become his servant. However he unknowingly placed some of his own body into the idol, so it was not merely a servant but a living being much like a human. Set decided that this child was to be his heir, not only because he was faithful to the will of Set but also because he retained Set’s power. He called his son Sebak, meaning ‘companion of Set’. Since then, Sebak, known as Adrian in his human form, has wandered the earth recruiting beasts and monsters as well as magical humans for Set’s evil use.
Traits: Adrian as a human has virtually no powers except those of weak mind control and a few magical spells. However, when he takes the form of Sebak, Adrian is an extremely deadly magical being. Sebak is an 11-foot high black demon with the head of a jackal. He has the strength “of a thousand men” and can cause devastating natural disasters. He is virtually indestructible, buts ends up having a certain specific “Achilles’ Heel” (which will be introduced later in the story).
((I’m making my character.
Name: Felina Cailin Teris
Felina is derived from Latin felinus (meaning “cat-like”.)
Nicknames: Kai, Feli, Lina, Lin.
When adventuring, she uses the name The Obsidian Cat, or Ebony Mistress, or Feline Claw. Where she adventures…I really don’t know.
Gender: Female
Age: 12
Parents: Bast (Egyptian goddess of cats and all that stuff) and a normal guy (David Teris) who’s just really smart. She’s American, if you wondered.
Appearance: Felina has this long, black, wavy, silky hair (reaching to her waist) that she highlights with silver streaks. She has parted bangs that taper around her forehead that are platinum blond.
She has one chocolate brown eye and one vibrant blue eye, and both eyes have cat-like pupils that expand with the light. This does not affect her ability to see-she sees perfectly-but it just looks strange.
Her skin is freakishly pale.
She’s a bit short, with pointed ears, and tends to wear…what I wear…which is stretch pants in brown and black, tshirts with armwarmers, shirts with no back, and Converse hi-tops that she ties around her ankle.
Background: Why do you care?
Felina has never been normal, in any sense of the word. She has a hard time getting along with people, so she just stays at home…and does schoolwork from there. Her dad’s a bit protective, but she’s gone adventuring enough times to make it so he’ll get a note when she goes off to adventure.
Basically, she’s socially inept and far too independent.
Traits: Felina can shapeshift into a large black cat with silver streaks and platinum blond ears (think Serval-size). Her eyes stay the same.
Her hearing and sense of smell are better than normal.
When she gets stressed, her body parts begin to shift into a cat’s, starting with her hair, ears, tail, and nose. Then teeth, then fur, and after that her voice changes, and then finally her bone structure. ))
Just an informative note: RoseQuartz has already made a character with Bast as the matriarch, but maybe she will let you have that goddess, or you guys can work something out.
((So basically, we’re half-sisters….
))
((That’s freakin’ AWESOME.
My character just shapeshifts because Bast was portrayed with the head of a cat. And I couldn’t let that change go…))
You’re creeping me out. One of your character’s nicknames is actually my name.

I used to be obsessed with ancient Egypt, but then I discovered Greek mythology and it all fell out of my head.
((RQ…do you still have any characters that you could *please* share with me? If you’ve used them all, no problemo but I’m just wondering if you (Or anyone else for that matter.) has any extra character ideas I could use. I’m STILL stuck thinking of ideas…I’ve been so busy lately, it’s hard to find time to think out a profile. Sorry))
((Do you want a specific god/goddess/mythology? Or just random?))
((Greek mythology preferable…I was originally going to do Athena, but then I decided that I wanted to try to find something a little more unique.
Agrrrfishi – if you want to make me a character instead, that’s fine. I don’t really mind who makes it. RQ offered first, but I don’t know if she has any ideas off the top of her head.
KaiYves – that sounds interesting, but I think I’d prefer to be a student if you don’t mind. Thanks for the idea though. We should probably have a few teachers on here.))
((I could make you a character, if you want! I’m having a whole bunch of fun with this.))
I had an idea, but it was for an adult demigod who was a teacher rather than a student.
((Yeah, if anyone has any ideas for this you can just make me a charecter. I’m a bit busy, opening night in 2 weeks!))
((Any specific Mythology? This is just one I came up with))
Name-Erin Miscathe ((change the name if you want to, I don’t care))
Age-?? ((You can put in your age))
Parents- Horus, Egyptian god of the sky and Emily Miscathe, airplane pilot and travelar
Description- Erin is ((male? female?)) and well built. En has sharp eyes, brown hair, and a fast tongue. Erin has some very good friends, not a lot of in-between friends.
Backround-While traveling, Emily visited an ancient egyptian archaeology site. She met Horus there, because she was able to see through the glamor/Mist. Horus visits quite often, being the god of the sky ‘n all.
Traits- Erin is loyal and couragous, much like a hawk. He can talk to birds and also see through the glamor/Mist better than anyone.
((how’s that?))
Oooooh, can I steal his first name? I’m going to. Please?
((It’s lovely, LBK! Sudo, I don’t mind, I’ll just change the name.))
Name- Fatima Miscathe
Age- 13
Parents- Horus, Egyptian god of the sky and Emily Miscathe, airplane pilot and travelar
Description- Fatima is female and well built. She has sharp eyes, brown hair, and a fast tongue. Erin has some very good friends, not a lot of in-between friends.
Background- While traveling, Fatima visited an ancient egyptian archaeology site. She met Horus there, because she was able to see through the glamor/Mist. Horus visits quite often, being the god of the sky ‘n all.
Traits- Fatima is loyal and couragous, much like a hawk. She can talk to birds and also see through the glamor/Mist better than anyone.
((At this school, are we going to have some kind of headmaster/headmistress? Some of us have no idea that we’re demigods, so we may need explanations, and probably everyone will need some kind of guidance. Maybe everyone should RP this person, or someone could use them as their character.))
(( Yeah, that would be helpful. If no one else really wants to do it, I’ll try. Or everybody could RP a teacher…))
((I’m going to make a few characters that will be up for grabs. Then, if we don’t need them, they could just be discarded. I need something to write while I wait for people to be ready to start the story! And please don’t be hesitant to take a male role, heaven knows we need them!
))
Name: James Evynder
Age: 15
Parents: Baldyr (Norse god of light and beauty), and Fiona Evynder, a mortal female who studies ancient religion.
Appearance: James is skinny, tall and very beautiful. He has sea-green eyes and brown hair that is cut so that it falls in his face, most of the time making him seem withdrawn. He is very friendly once you get past his exterior. His skin seems to glow.
Background: Baldyr traveled to the mortal world to preside over the movements of the planets and the sun. There, he proceeded to have a child with whom he was certain was Nanna, his wife. It was really Fiona, disguised by Loki as a trick and in a trance-like state, believing herself to be the goddess. When Baldyr realized he had been tricked, he immediately left the earth and swore never to return, leaving Fiona with his mortal child.
Traits: James is generally withdrawn from normal society due to his self-blame for his mother’s abandonment, for he has known of his demi-god status since he was born. Baldyr left behind a lock of hair for Fiona as a gift of regret, which glows gold with light whenever evil is about. Fiona gave it to her son as something to remember his father by, and James keeps it in a necklace which he wears often. James, in turn, can emit and bend light and sound, and can manipulate human features, therefore able to make quick disguises for himself and his companions. He is also very skilled at building, especially ships.
((I’ll make more later!))
((This looks like fun. . . .))
Name: Tala Silverton
Age: 13
Parents: Anubis (Egyptian god of embalming and the dead) and Lisa Silverton, an environmental educator from England interested in Egyptology
Appearance: Slightly above average height, with long black hair (sometimes in a braid, sometimes loose), brown eyes, and tan skin. She generally wears a lot of jewelry. Her teeth are sharp and rather jackal-like.
Background: Anubis and Lisa met at an exhibit on Ancient Egyptian burial customs at a history museum. Lisa can see through ((can we use “glamour” instead of “Mist”?)), and therefore saw Anubis as he was, and not as the mortal he was disguised as. (Tala has known about this since she was three, particularly since Anubis visits once or twice a year.)
Traits: Tala is generally easygoing and polite. It can take time for her to make friends, but she is fiercely loyal to them once she feels comfortable with them. Tala’s powers are not very powerful; she can speak and understand the languages of canines, and she has a pet saluki (a kind of sighthound) named Hatshepsut or “Hattie” who is her constant companion.
((Ooh! This reminds me of the Percy Jackson Series! Cool!!!!))
Name-Halena Beauregaurd
Age-12
Parents-Hades, Greek god of the Underworld, and Milly Beauregaurd, scientist in search of a cure for AIDS.
Apperance- Taller than average, with long-ish raven-black hair, dark purple eyes, and pale skin. Sort of a recluse, and gothic, but only slightly.
Backround- Hades and Milly met when an AIDS patient she was working on died. When Hades came to take the patients soul away, he fell in love with her and had a child with her. Milly couldn’t see through the “glamor” ((I like Mist better)), so she thought her child was from her mean boyfriend, Farr. Halena grew up not knowing her heritage, until 6th grade, when Camp Half-Blood ((please, can we have CHB in here?? PLEASE???)) found her.
Traits-She doesn’t have many friends and prefers to walk in the forests of CHB. The monsters don’t bother her, but she is able to talk to them. She can also summon the dead to help fight, and she owns a hellhound called Dethaea.
((I always wanted a daughter of Hades. Nico got to much attention in the Percy Jackson books))
SFTDP ((I forgot to add she has two, 2 foot long obsedian hunting knives that can kill anything (kinda like Artemis). She also has two less dangerous celestial bronze knives for competitions and such. Still hurts, though.))
((Sorry, LKB, but no camp half-blood. This is an RPG, not a fanfiction.))
((Yeah, I knew that, but after I posted. Isn’t it going to be a boarding school or something? I’m kinda new to RPG.))
Wait – are we supposed to have magic powers? Or, should I say, can we? If so, are there any limits to what powers we have to have?
They shouldn’t be “magic powers”, per se. If your demigod’s god parent had any specific traits attributed to them (such as Hermes being the god of speed, then maybe the demi-god would be a fast runner), then those are okay to use. But steer clear of generic powers. Flying and invisibility are a general no-no.
((You can if you want to. Actually, you should since one of your parents is a god and all, but whatever))
SFTDP (( So, instead of CHB, we have a boarding school? Does it have a name? If it doesn’t, Delphi’s (as in the oracle) Gifted Boarding School would work.
((It actually does have a name, that being Antediluvian Academy. (Antediluvian pretty much means ancient history.)))
((Literally “before the flood,” i.e., Noah’s flood in the Bible.))
((That’s cool))
((Here are some interesting (but less well known) gods, for those who haven’t thought of characters yet…
Norse:
-Nótt : Goddess of the night
-Rán: Goddess of the sea and dying at sea
Egyptian:
Khonsu: (his name means wanderer) is a god of the moon and of healing. A good alternative for Artemis.
Kuk- a personification of darkness (looking for a villain?)
Menhit- goddess of war, is part lion (I think)
Shu- god of wind/air, basically.
Seriously, look these guys up. Wikipedia has a nice list of ’em.
I had a great idea for a character, but I need to find a goddess of dancing in some culture… Hmm…))
((There’s a muse of dance in Greek mythology. Her name is Terpsichore. Would that work?))
After much pondering, brain poking, and frantic searching through my collection of mythology stuff, I have finally decided on a character:
Name: Izzy Naude
Age: 12ish
Parents: Thalia, Greek muse of comedy, and Arthur Naude, obscure comic writer.
General appearance: Tallish, messy auburn hair, hazelly green eyes, freckles.
I can’t say I have any unusual powers, but I could be the overly enthusiastic optimist or something like that.
51- look at Greek muses, I get them all confused, but I think there’s one of song and dance or something along those lines.
((Izzy must be funny, no?))
((Maybe her power is to make the villans laugh so hard, they don’t notice the other people sneaking in.))
((That’s actually a very good power.))
((Does everyone have a character now? I want to start the story!!!))
((I still need to make one, (I’m hurrying, I’m hurrying) he’s going to be the son of Melpomene. (Yeah, I’m sort of asking for it this time, aren’t I?) You can start and I’ll find my way in.))
Tragedy?
Really, SR. You have a taste for the oddest, strangest things, but this guy’s gonna be good.
((I don’t have a character yet, but feel free to start, I guess I’ll jump in when I’ve got more time.))
((I’m starting soon even if everybody doesn’t. However, not right now, methinks.))
((I’m developing one more character! She shall also shapeshift, but it’s better this time! Because I have a reason!
Name: Sidra Kitsune Teris, sister of Felina Teris.
Age: 11
Parents: Inari, Japanese kami of fertility, rice, agriculture, foxes, industry and worldly success…and her father, David Teris, who’s a book writer. (Yes, David has affairs with many goddesses, what’s it to you?)
General appearance: Short, with a very curvy but thin body. Her hair is a straight mix between crimson and orange that reaches down to her ankles, with one large white bang over her left eye. Her skin is freakishly pale. Her eyes are a bloody crimson.
She normally wears black fishnet armwarmers, a white half-top (it’s half a tshirt. It bares her stomach and has no neck, and very little sleeves) with a red or black chibi fox on it, and black stretch pants.
She also wears crimson sneakers.
Powers: She can transform into a nine-tailed fox in much the same way that Felina transforms into a cat. They’re more similar then you know.)))
((Nine-tailed fox? Am I getting a Naruto vibe from this?
))
((Yes, you are. -addict and not afraid to say it-
But Inari’s an actual goddess, anyway, and nobody had a Japanese kami, so…))
Name: Irene
Parent: Iris, goddess of the rainbow *checks to make sure that’s not taken*
Appearance: Average height, blue eyes, curly blonde hair
Personality: Cheerful, nice
Background: Irene was sent to the school by her dad after monsters attack her at her latest school. She didn’t know about the gods yet, but she knew there was something he wasn’t telling her. So she goes to Bermuda and finds the school (do we have a name for it yet? *sees posts about “Antediluvian Academy”* Yes, we do.) She is ambushed by a smallish monster outside of the school’s protective boundaries, but a satyr who works at the camp rescues her, after Irene inadvertently uses her powers to repel the monster. She’s taken to the school, where the teachers begin explaining everything.
((Okay, I’m starting the story!))
Halena-
I looked up at my new home. It was not as bad as I thought. I remember when my mom first told me I wa going to Antediluvian Academy;
“WHAT?!”
“You heard me, Halena. It’s a school for the gifted.”
“Right. More like an ayslum.”
“Must you be so negative?”
I was supposed to go inside and tell some lady at the front that I was here. But there was something odd about this place. It gave me chills. Mustering my courage, I walked in, and told the lady I was here. She gave me a key and said, “You’re room 301, sweetie. Just down the hall and to the left.” Slowly, I trudged toward my room. Using my key, I let myself in.
“Oh, hello. You must be my roommate. I’m Tala. Tala Silverton.((Koppar, is that okay with you?))”
“Nice to meet you. I’m Halena Beauregarde. What is this place anyway?”
“I’m not sure”
Boy, was this girl cheery. And she had some odd teeth, too. I was about to ask what the heck was up with her teeth, when the loudspeaker crackled to life. “All students report to the back garden. All students, to the back garden.” I shrugged, tossed my bag onto the remaining bed, and followed Tala outside.
(NOTE. Sidra is 13 instead of 11.)
FELINA
I looked up at Antediluvian Academy (which I would now after call the Academy or Ante Academy) and sighed.
“Siiidra,” I moaned, “hurry up!’
“COMING!” the redhead in question shouted, her red hair flying around her.
With this, we finally managed to get into the door and into the waiting room. I began to pull Sidra’s hair into a ponytail as we waited, while muttering “How troublesome…” (which I don’t say a lot. Sidra just finds it funny, ok?!)
So we passed the time like this until the lady at the desk-a daughter of Odin or something-gave us at the key, looking bored, and said “Rooms 302 and 303. Down the hall. You with the black hair-Felina-you’re in 302 with another girl, she’s already there. Sidra, your roommate isn’t here yet, so feel free to set up your stuff.”
SIDRA
Well, ok, but you don’t have to be THAT cruel, lady.
I trudged to my room, unlocking the door, and emptying my stuff out on the bed.
Suddenly, the loudspeaker went off-“All students report to the back garden. All students, to the back garden.â€
I rolled my eyes and left the room, heading for the back garden. As I left, I noticed Felina talking to her roommate, and made a mental note to catch up with them later.
((RQ, is it ok if Felina rooms with your Bast-daughter character, and SR, is it ok if Sidra rooms with your character?
ALSO. Anyone can notice Sidra in the back garden. She’s very noticeable. Please?))
Me and Tala, whom I was beginning to like, made our way to the back garden. I noticed a couple of other girls gesturing to us. “Come on” said Tala. “Let’s go see who they are.” We went over. “Hi, I’m Sidra and this is Felina” said the redhead. “Whatever. What kind of a school is this?”
“Not sure, but maybe they’ll explain.”
Maybe I was hallucinating, but I was sure the black haired girl, Felina, had pointy ears. “Attention, may I have your attention please? Thank you.” boomed a voice from up front. Being on the tall side, I saw a man in a wheelchair on some sort of stage up front. He put a disc into a DVD player and hit “Play.” All of a sudden, the wall behind him lit up and a voice said, “Welcome to Antediluvian Acadamy for Demigods.” Wait, demigods? As in half-god? As I continued to watch the movie, thought whirled around in my head. Gods are real? I’m a demigod? What the heck was going on? When the movie ended, I looked over at Felina, Sidra, and Tala. They all looked kinda pale and sweaty. The man in the wheelchair wheeled up to the front and said, “Okay, that might’ve been a shock for some of you, but it’s all real. I’m Chiron, the activities director here. In a moment we will-we will…” The rest of his sentence was cut off, and I noticed that everyone was looking at me. “What? WHAT?” I asked. Then I looked up and screamed. Floating above me was a skull. After I calmed down, I asked, “Okay, what’s going on???”
“You have just been claimed, Halena. You are a daughter of Hades”
“Oh crap.” was all I could think of.
((My character is a male third year, but other than that, I don’t mind. It could be fun!))
((Oops. I just realized that saying “It could be fun” is like committing suicide. Especially when I say it.))
((Wait- Scratch that. My character is a bit older than that. I’m not sure how this will work… Wait till I post my character.))
Omorose had never understood why she had to be different. Then again, she had never known she was a demigod. And she still didn’t know.
She stood, like a solid gold statue, in front of the Antediluvian Academy somewhere in the Bermuda area. The building was large, daunting, and the front was no better. It consisted of many hundred of steps, almost like a monument, with white pillars at the top, surrounding a large set of brass doors. On a plaque above the top was inscribed the school motto:
“Scientia est a donum superne.”
Knowledge is a gift from above.
Omorose crossed around the large fountain obstructing her view on the front lawn, which was made of gold and had a centerpiece of a man and a woman. The man was glowing gold and the woman sterling silver, with water pouring from their entwined fingers. She hitched her rucksack up onto her thin shoulders, and tossed her black hair as she made the long trek up the stairs in her white dress and sandals.
In one hand she held a small lotus bloom. In the other she clutched a picture of her foster parents, the Hastings. The picture was of the two of them, smiling and waving, with Omorose standing between them. She looked no younger than she did at the present moment, for this was normal as Omorose never seemed to age a day from 15. They had been in Egypt at the time the picture was taken, right after she was adopted. It was a farewell gift to her so that their daughter would have something to remember them by over the next 9 months. She knew she would miss them awfully, something that had been scary to her as she considered this new chapter in her education.
“It’s a very prestigious school, quite ancient and very renowned,” her father, Rick, had tried to assure her. They were going to miss her too, she knew. Even though she was adopted, Omorose had always known that she had a close bond with her parents. She thought about them all the way up the steps, up to the doors, and into the school. Then, all else was wiped clean from her mind.
The lobby of the Academy was white and gleaming, with a river running through the middle. There was a small jade bridge over the center, which Omorose walked across, admiring the intricate artwork on the walls. The back half of the atrium was open to the ground below, and Omorose could see that they were over some sort of lake. The breeze rushed in through the open room, and she could also see that the hallway was a bridge over the lake to the dormitories. She walked to a small booth labeled ‘Reception’, where a pudgy old woman with glasses sat flipping through a few files.
“Hello there, dearie,” she smiled up at Omorose, noticing her at last.
“Hello,” Omorose said. “I’m a new student. I was wondering what room I’m in?”
“What is your name?” the woman asked, ready with her file folder.
“Omorose Hastings,” she replied, and waited as the small fingers of the old lady flipped quickly through the cabinet.
“Ah, yes,” she said finally, taking a small silver key from one of the folders. “Room 315. Here is your key!” She handed it off through the window glass.
“Thank you very much,” said Omorose.
“Enjoy your year, my dear,” the woman called after her as Omorose trekked across the open atrium. “Come see me if you ever need help…finding anything…”
Omorose nodded to herself, stepping out into the hallway-bridge. She began walking cautiously across the marble plinth, over the crystal lake, wide rushes and lovely landscape. It was a cool fall morning, and smelled delightful. She almost didn’t want to reach the other side.
She walked down across the bridge and reached a hall labeled ‘301-399’. She turned the corner and quickly found 315. Placing the key in the door, she walked in to find that she was the first one there. She stored her belongings on one of the beds. Then, she placed the lotus in a vase on her bedside table, and set up the picture ina frame beside it.
((Bookgirl_me, is it Ok if you’re PPed a little bit? If not, just ignore this. I’m also assuming we are already at the Academy, and have been there for a few years.))
Vicky and I ((Sudelan)) stood outside, watching a few of the First Years get claimed. One was claimed by Hades.
“That girl is certainly going to get a lot of hatred from a few of the other Greek demigods.” Vicky said.
“Yeah. I think we should stay away from her. She has pretty strong powers. The dead are most of her friends.” I said. “But then again, she might be a good friend. She won’t have a painful death.”
Vicky and I walked to our boarding rooms. I mulled over what had happened. I suddenly bumped into a new girl, in the front of the building. ((Anyone who wants can jump in here))
((The dead are not Halena’s friends! Just loyal warriors. Thay actually creep her out a little.))
((Sorry!))
((Meh, it’s fine. I see how you would think that, with Nico in Percy Jackson ‘n all…))
FELINA
“So you didn’t know?” I purred, looking at Halena.
Then, suddenly, OHGODPEOPLEAREGLARINGATMEOHNOOOO!
“S-stop…l-looking…” I trembled, falling to the ground. My ears and tail were almost instantly grown to match a cat’s, my hair growing long and silky.
Then Sidra stepped in.
“HEY!” she yelled. “Stop glaring at her. We both knew who our parents were, so she thought it was weird that Halena didn’t know!”
At this, the pressure ceased, and my ears went back to normal, my tail was no more, and my hair was…what passed for normal with me.
“Thanks, Sidra.”
“No problem, Felina.”
Annette stared up the Antediluvian Academy, slightly intimidated. She still had no idea why she was being sent here, except that her mother had informed her that “it’s the best place for you right now, sweetie.”
Nervously she pulled open the heavy door and saw a booth labeled ‘Reception’ in the lobby. An old lady was sitting behind it, engrossed in flipping through papers, and it took a while for her to notice Annette.
“I’m Annette Reynolds,” Annette said finally. “I’m supposed to get my room now, I think.”
“Right,” the woman said. “I’m sorry, we’re just so busy right now. You’re in room 311, and here’s your key. You’re over there,” she added, pointing vaguely. “To the left a bit.”
Annette nodded doubtfully, took the key, and headed down the long hallway to try to find her room.
((Can Lillian room with you? If not, forget this post.))
I walked along the hallway leading to the lobby at Antediluvian Academy after Stephen and I studied in the library. I was wondering when my new roommate was coming; her flight came in today. I turned around the corner and ran into a girl carrying lots of luggage.
“Oh! I’m so sorry!” I exclaimed. Archimedes fell off my shoulder, and her suitcases were strewn across the ugly, academy carpets. She went to pick him up.
“Don’t touch that.
Please. It’s important.”
((agrrrfishi, I hope its ok that Fatima rooms with Omorose?))
Fatima scanned the hallways for her room.
“315……315…” she muttered, running her fingers along the doors as she walked. She was curious about this school, Antediluvian Academy . It sounded exotic, royal. Nothing like she ever thought she was.
“315…..ah ha!” She turned the handle and walked inside, to find that someone had already gotten there before her. There was a lovely flower in a vase, a picture, and some stuff on the bed.
“Pleasant,” she thought. She peered around for the person connected to these items, but her roommate had apparently left to get something or explore.
“Well, I guess it’s about time I unpack,” Fatima thought. She lugged her trunk onto the bad, and pulled out a pair of wings that her mother had given her. Fatima tried to cram the metal wings into the drawers of her dorm.
“Fantastic,” she muttered as the drawers regected the wings.
((Perfectly fine! Perhaps we can meet up back at the garden!))
Omorose stood cautiously in the back garden, feeling quite alone. Everyone else seemed to be in groups. For some reason, people were panicky. There was a large stage overlooking the lake. Omorose felt she must have missed something, as she had just walked in. There was something on a screen on the stage but I couldn’t quite make it out.
Suddenly, one girl began to hiss and turn into a cat. Another had a skull floating above her head. It was all…for lack of a better word, weird. Maybe this is some kind of joke they play on freshmen Omorose hoped silently. Then, someone suddenly bumped into her, knocking her to the ground.
“Ouch!” she cried. She clutched her head and looked upwards at the person who she had knocked into.
“I’m sorry,” said the boy, who gave her a hand up. He had sandy hair and a sad face. With him was a girl not much older than Omorose, who looked…successful.
“That’s okay,” she said, half-smiling. She held out a hand. “I’m Omorose. Who are you two?”
((P.S. You do realize that because my mom is Isis and I’m Horus’ sister, this makes you my niece?
))
((…..! Ahaha, that’s amusing….auntie! ))
((56.1- I don’t mind if Halena and Tala are roommates.))
((Is it OK if Meilin rooms with Ingrid, vanillabean?))
I stood in the centre of the huge lobby, looking around in amazement. There were so many strange sights that I couldn’t be sure that my eyes were playing tricks on me. Clearing my throat nervously, I walked quickly to the desk that said ‘Reception’. Passing over the jade bridge, I reached out to touch it with two fingers and murmured my name. ‘玉美糒. Jade. It was hard to believe I was the granddaughter of the Jade Emperor.
I walked up to the reception desk and stood there, feeling a bit lost and unsure of what to do next. A few people passing by gave me curious stares. I turned to the lady sitting behind the desk, who was busily shuffling and re-shuffling various paper. A giant pile of keys sat on the desk next to her, and I wondered briefly just how many people were enrolled in the school. I couldn’t believe that there were this many demigods in the world, other people just like me.
Lost in thought, it was only when the lady with the fancy glasses coughed loudly that I looked up, startled and realized she was waiting.
‘Oh….sorry. Er, what am I supposed to do?’
The lady tisked impatiently. ‘Your name would help.’
‘Oh! Er, sorry. I’m Meilin. Meilin Yu.’
The receptionist glanced down at the long list of names in front of her and found my name. ‘Ah, Meilin. We’ve been expecting you. Room 317. First hallway to the left. Your roommate, her name’s Ingrid, hasn’t arrived yet. She’ll be here soon, I expect. Good luck.’
Lifting my luggage onto a cloud I had just summoned, I turned and the cloud followed behind me as I tried to find my room. 317 was around a hundred metres down the hall. I pushed the door open and entered my room for the next few years. The cloud drifted past and hovered over a suitable spot for the luggage for a while, before disappearing and dropping the luggage onto the carpeted floor with a thud.
The space was roomy, with two comfortable beds and plenty of modern appliances. Much, much better then the village I had lived in for the first 12 years of my life. ((I changed her age to be 13)) Thoroughly exhausted from the past 12 hours I had spent flying, I flopped onto the soft bed and sighed. It had been a long day.
“Omigod, omigod, omigod!” I thought as I followed Chiron down the hallway. “Hades? Seriously?” We passed some other students in the hallway. The stared as we passed. I repressed and urge to tell them off. Chiron stopped in front of a door and muttered something. The door sprung open and he wheeled in, followed by me. “Please, can you explain what’s going on? Why did I get claimed?”
“Because Hades is your father. Now, go to your room and get your things. You will be moving into the Greek wing.”
“Why?”
“Because Hades is a Greek god, now go!”
As he spoke, he stood up from his wheelchair. Is that the right word? Because, when he finished standing up, he was half horse. I gawked at him for a second, then ran to get my things. When I returned, Chiron was sorting through some CDs. “Ah,” he said “The Greek wing is rooms 501 to 599. Take your pick.” I left to go find my room. When I got to the wing, I picked room 504 ((4 in chinese sounds like death.)). No one was here yet. I sat down on the bed to try and absorb what had just happened. I was beginning to think I was crazy, when Chiron walked? cantered? by. “All students are allowed a pet. Seeing as you don’t have one, you might enjoy this one.” He took a furry black bundle from his back and gave it to me. I saw two ears, a tail, a snout. “A dog?” I asked.
“Actually, a hellhound. Are you going to name her?”
“Her name is…her name is…Dethaea”
“So be it.”
Dethaea yawned and curled up beside me. Maybe I was going crazy, ‘cus I was sure she said, “Goodnight.” in my mind. I was drowsy, too, and I lay down on my bed and closed my eyes.
“I’m Sudelan, she’s Vicky.” I said. “Where are you from?”
“My foster parents found me lost, in Egypt. They’re archaeologists.”
“There’s an assembly for Freshmen outside, over with the crowd. Out there.” Vicky said.
“With the skull floating above that girl’s head!? I don’t want any practical jokes played on me.”
“It’s not a joke.” I said. “You’ll be fine.” Omorose walked out toward the courtyard.
“Thank you,” I returned, smiling, and started walking towards the crowd of new freshmen. As I got closer, I could read what the large banner said.
Welcome to the Antediluvian Academy for Demigods!
“Demigod? What does that mean?” I asked the girl next to me, why had cat ears and a tail.
“Wake up! Wake up!”
“Mff. Just a little longer…”
“WAKE UP!!!!”
I opened my eyes. Dethaea was standing on my chest, panting. “Wake up!” the voice said again. It seemed to be in my mind. “Hello?” I called out? “Hiya!” the voice came again. “Dethaea?”
“Yeah?”
“Wait, you understand me?”
“Sure. All monsters do, Daughter of Hades.”
“Halena is fine. What is it?”
“I gotta go have some private time.”
“Oh, sure.”
I opened the door, and Dethaea rushed out. Somehow, I could talk to monsters. Freaky. While Dethaea did her business, I wandered around, trying to get my bearings. Suddenly, I bumped into someone. “Oops, sorry.” said the girl. “I’m Adonia. I just got claimed. Apparently, Demeter is my mom. Who’s your god parent?”
“Hades” I mumbled.
“Oh” Her face fell. “Well, we can still be friends, right?”
“I’ll think about it.” Dethaea came up and, thought to me, “Want her mauled?”
“No, but thanks.”
Adonia looked at me funny. “You don’t want to be friends?”
“I’m still thinking about it. Bye.” As I walked back to my dorm room,I tried speaking to Dethaea with my thoughts. “Dethaea?” I thought. “Yes?” came the reply. “Oh, nothing.” I thought back, grinning to myself. Suddenly, the loud speaker came on.”All students to the back garden. All students, to the back garden.” I sighed, then started to walk toward the garden. As I passed my room, the door flew open and a girl almost ran into me. “Oh, hi. Is this your room? I guess we’re roommates. I’m Maya. (( That okay with you, SilverLeopard? If not, I’ll change my roomate))” Was it just me, or did she have horns? I would have to ask about it later. We were cutting it close with the meeting.
((As mentioned below, I don’t think I’m here yet, nor have I roleplayed being claimed. Thanks for trying to include me, but I think I’d rather not be powerplayed like that.))
((Okay Eratta, I’ll bump into Sudalen if you don’t mind, Enceladus.))
SFTDP (( Halena slept through the rest of the meeting, that’s why the loudspeaker sounded again))
Adonia and Alexandria were throwing a ball back and forth. It was a rather more exciting game than normal, as they were using all sorts of techniques to catch the ball, even when they threw it wildly. Alexandria would send a wind in, to direct it back toward her. Adonia would use a vine to grab it and throw it toward her. It was quite fun. They were having a blast, when suddenly Alexandria’s mother called. “Girls!”
They looked at each other, Adonia shrank the vines back into the ground, and they came. “What is it, Mother?”
She was holding a letter. The hand holding it was shaking slightly.
“Girls, I have just received a- a letter. An offer of a scholarship for both of you to attend the Antediluvian Academy.”
“What?” Both girls were shocked. They had been homeschooled ever since that day when Mother had seen them using their powers, and they weren’t at all sure about going back to school. “We aren’t going though, are we?”
“I think it would be a good idea.” She hesitated. “The school specializes in ancient history, and using your natural talents to your best ability. I’m sure you’ll like it there. Also, it’s a boarding school. You’ll be able to come back for holidays though. It’ll be fun.”
“We’re not going to wherever this school is and leaving you here.”
Hannah Day ((Their mother. I named her, finally.)) sighed. She’d have to tell them everything.
She sat down, and motioned for them to do the same.
“Girls, do you know how you got your powers?”
“Of course not. We told you this. What does that have to do with anything?”
“Because I do know. And so does this school.”
“What?”
“I think I should start at the beginning. With your father, Alexandria, and your mother, Adonia.”
“What about them?”
“I know you don’t like to think about them, but like it or not, they gave you your powers.”
“Really?” Adonia asked, while Alexandria said, “What?”
“Yes, they did. They had something in common, just as your powers have something in common.” She breathed deeply, aware that their reactions to this would be rather loud. “They were gods.”
The reaction was, indeed, loud. She heard ‘what’ several times, and ‘you’re kidding, right?’ a few. Eventually, they settled down.
“How do you know this?”
“Well, your uncle, ‘Dria, and your father, ‘Nia, told me, after I first saw you. He didn’t know about ‘Dria’s powers, of course, or anything else, but he knew about ‘Nia’s. I can tell you quite a bit, ‘Nia. You are the child of the Greek Goddess Demeter, Goddess of Harvest. ‘Dria, you are half-Egyptian, but I have never actually discovered who your father is, as he did not tell me.” Her face looked sad.
“But what does this have to do with the Ante- The school?”
“The school is a school for those who, like you, have one godly parent. Demigods, to be exact. They can teach you everything you need to know. You must go. I cannot properly help you, train you in what you must know.” She paused, and when she spoke again, her voice trembled. “Not only the gods of the different myths are real. The monsters are too. They will come after you, if you stay. They will kill you. You must learn how to fight them. You will go, whether or not you want to.” She glanced at her calender, and back at the letter. “Unfortunately, this letter was delayed. Most people will arrive tomorrow. Only if we hurry will we be able to get you there on tim. But now, go and pack. We will get you there as soon as we can.”
((This is from the day before all of your posts. I’ll probably pop up slightly after everyone else, when I get bored of waiting.))
((59-No problem; you can PP her anytime
. I figure that Vicky sort of half-figured out who’s daughter she was on her own, and Sudelan could confirm it. She hasn’t even met her mother, so she’s a bit …irritated at times when people obsess about their Olympic parents. She still considers her parent to be the mortal couple (the Caelis) who raised her to be her parents. Oh, and she still has a cast on her arm for her tangle with monsters when she arrived at the school. I’m going to stick with just having one character after all; NaNo…Can people from different houses/teams/mythologies/whatever room together? If so, can Vicky be with Ilkora? It would be an interesting experience
If not, then she’s up for grabs. Or she could terrorize her roomie into pleading her to switch…))
Victoria:
“I should probably find my roomie now.” I muttered to Sudelan. He grinned. “All the joy of finally sharing that big, empty room that you were stuck in all this while will now be yours.” – “Yep, I can’t wait.” I replied sarcastically. With my current state of luck, I’d get some cheerful young demigoddess, all a-flutter about her new powers who was, like, so exited to be, like, almost a goddess, and whee! I’m practically a superhero. Except that the comic superheros always win. “At least I have Sudelan” she thought. Ah well, better get it over with.
“Good luck.” said Sudelan. He was almost grinning. “You know who my roommate is and you aren’t telling me.” I guessed. But he wasn’t telling. Fine, I have to do it myself. Why can’t I go back to the point in my life where I always won. “Don’t play to many games with your roomie.” he said. I swear he was smiling! He never smiled! Something was afoot.
I marched into the courtyard. “Okay, greek people, listen up. Who else is in room 307?”
((69- I think LBK established that until you are claimed, you room with whoever you’re assigned to, and only after you’re claimed do you move to the ‘greek wing’ and are only with greeks, or whatever.
I kinda like that, with a wing for ‘unclaimed’, and at least two others for claimed, from different mythologies, but we could modify it.
By the way, not that this matters much, when my characters are together, I’ll write in third person, but when they are apart, I’ll switch back to first.))
((Well, do you have any ideas on how to modify the school, Errata? I’m drawing a blank here.))
((No, not really. It’s a fairly good system, what’s been hinted at. I don’t think we need to modify it, unless people aren’t happy with what’s there.))
((Okay, then. I’m just waiting for some more people to post, since Halena slept through the rest of the meeting.))
((I might introduce a teacher character, but I’m not sure on the details at the moment…))
((You mean other than Chiron? It would be funny to have a mortal teacher who knew nothing about demigods.))
((No, a demigod teacher, some kind of scientist. Chiron can’t teach everything, he needs help.))
((Oh, yeah. He does need some sort of help. It would be cool if there was a god or muse of science. :)))
((Urania was the Muse of Astronomy. That’s a kind of science… sort of…))
((Good idea!
Name: Steve Korlin
Gender: Male
Parents: Urania, Muse of Astronomy and Aidan Korlin, photographer.
Appearance: Blond, curly hair, unusually dark blue eyes with pale streaks.
Background: Urania met Steve’s father while he was photographic a solar eclipse and fell in love with him. Guided by occasional visits from his mother, Steve excelled at science and attended Antediluvian Academy during his teenage years. After graduation, he became a planetary geologist and worked at JPL until a monster attack got him dismissed. He was offered a chance to come back to the Academy by Chiron as a science teacher and accepted.
Traits: The only outward sign of Steve’s heritage is the fact that his eyes look like the eclipse where his parents met. He has an ability to learn very quickly, especially languages, and can control gravity to a small degree to levitate nearby objects.
((I’ll just keep going. I’ve also decided that at some point sin the story, I’ll be continuing my own legend among the Egyptian gods in italics, so feel free to read. They will definitely relate to your stories, too.))
Omorose left the courtyard, still confused. A demigod? What was that? She hoped someone would explain things to her. They were simply getting stranger and stranger.
““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““`
Meanwhile, at the entrance of the courtyard, a tall, dark and handsome figure came striding past the fountain, walking determinedly towards the steps. Adrian, a fourth year student at the Academy, had tan skin and wavy dark hair, as well as piercing black eyes. Hauntingly handsome, he caught the gaze of a few freshmen as they watched him walk past.
Stupid mortals, he though to himself. They’ve got no idea who they’re looking at.
Set was the ancient Egyptian embodiment of chaos and disaster, and yet he still lived high among the Egyptian pantheon. Horus, Osiris and Isis had simply threatened him much too long. The demon god was furious with his lack of status. He frequently paced the skies in a rage, watching the trivial points of human life that his helpful brother, sister and nephew trod with their sickening superiority. It was then that Set realized he needed an heir. He needed help, and not in the psychiatric sense.
A Ushabti doll is a small, clay figure, placed in the tombs of deceased Pharoahs to serve them in the next life. This was perhaps the only piece of magic that the Egyptian people had successfully gotten through their tiny skulls, thought Set. Ushabti dolls were extremely powerful servants, but very slow minded and easy to destroy. Set would need a minion so strong, no worldly force could destroy him. He needed a demon. He needed a god.
That very night, when Ra flew his carriage over the sky, bringing with him the blanket of night, Set snuck from his place in the hall of Power and entered the temple of Anubis. He searched for many hours, scouring through the piles of clay Ushabti until he found a small clay doll exactly right to serve him. It had little black eyes, black braided hair and strong muscles. Using a powerful magic spell in reverse, Set swirled the dust, dirt and water of the Earth together, infusing them with a powerful potion of his own design. He then drank the potion, allowing him to transfer new energy and life into the doll. Slowly, the clay figure became flesh. it sprang from the ground, limbs forming, lungs pumping, a heart beating.
“Yes…” said Set. ” My minion lives! He shall be called Sebak, my servant.”
But Sebak was not so eager only to serve Set and nobody else. He wished to make Set happy, but there was something too mortal about him. Although he had the power to become a black demon of Set’s creation, he only wished to stay beside Set, not to destroy, not to gather minions. Set knew that he had created a monster…a child.
((More to come soon!))
((Would it be okay if Omorose askes me to explain thins to her? If not, forget this post. Also, I’m pretending this is before the speaker goes off.))
“Um, excuse me?”
I turned around. A very nice girl with wide, unknowing brown eyes. “Yes?” I said.
“Um, I’m Omorose and I don’t understand what a demigod is. Do you know?”
Poor girl. So trusting and carefree. Not stared at like me because my dad is Hades. But I felt sympathy for her. “A demigod is someone who is half human, half god.”
“How do I know who my god parent is?”
“You get claimed. Like me. I’m Hades’ child, so he sent a skull to hover over my head.”
“Thank you!” She walked away. I felt…good. I had done this girl, Omorose, some good. Maybe we could be friends. Dethaea padded up. “Hungry.” she thought at me.
“What do hellhounds eat?”
“People. Or wet dog food. One of the two.”
“Let’s go with wet dog food.” “Where can I get wet dog food here?” I wondered. “After all, I don’t even know where I am in the world! Maybe there’s a store in this school somewhere…” I wandered off to look for a store. “They should really give students a map.”
((Geez, I miss a day here and there are so many more posts than before! Ok, I’ve finally got enough time and creative juice in me to make a character…here it goes:
Name: Clee Harper
Age: 13 1/2
Gender: Female
Parent: the Greek goddess Aphrodite (For those of you who don’t know, she’s the goddess of love and beauty. Ok, ok. I’m still wavering on this one, but I think I’ll stick with it. I’ll see. Oh yeah, and she knows she’s a daughter of Aphrodite. I think I want her to have already been at the school for a year or so at the start.)
Appearance: Long, dark brown hair and a tall, slender figure. Always has the latest, most fashionable clothes and
Friends: I think she should be fairly popular among the other Aphrodite girls, but probably not so much around the other Greek demigods. She’s a little too confident of herself and sometimes can be a bit bossy. But underneath it all, she’s actually a true, fun loving girl.))
((Oops, I forgot about the most important part…
Powers: Of course, she’s good at charming boys into doing whatever she wants, which givers her a major lift when she needs something done and fast. I guess I’ll think of some more that are a little more fanciful, but for now that’s it.))
((61.1: sure.))
I froze in the middle of leaning down to pick up the messenger bag that had landed near my feet, and picked up my suitcase instead. “Oh, sorry. Um, why?”
“It’s – it’s personal. So, what room are you in? I can help you with your bags. I’m Lillian, a daughter of Apollo. Who are you?”
The girl gave me a funny look.
“Oh! You must be new to all of this. The freshmen assembly is going on now. You probably want to go. But first, let’s get your bags into your room,” I said with a nervous smile. I shouldn’t have assumed she knew that she was a demigod already.
Here’s my official desciption of my character.
Name: Mason
son of Zeus
Abilities: super strength, shoots lightning bolts, and can fly
Brown hair
green eyes
((can someone explain the houses and how what the classes are))
I walked up to the school, and I could smell the sea water in the air. The pounds and pounds of other students luggage with mine seemed like a feather.
Inside the school was huge. I saw the sign that said office, so I walked in still carrying everyones luggage(and a few people that walked by and gave me their’s).
((There’s an “unclaimed” wing and a wing for demigods of Greek, Egyptian, and Norse parentage. Until your god parent claimes you, you stay in the “unclaimed” wing which is rooms 301-399. The reception lady tells you what room you’re assigned to in the “unclaimed” wing. Then, once you’re claimed, you move into the wing of your god parent’s mythology. The Greek is rooms 501-599.))
No offense, but your character sounds a lot like a Mary Sue. Super Strength on it’s own made Heracles incredibly powerful. If you have it, it should be a solo power. Same for flying, and lightning bolts. I don’t know, maybe you have some plan, like he only gives static shocks that make people flinch and their hair stand on end, or he can only levitate two inches off the ground, or something like that, but he still sounds really unfair.
None taken. I’ll have super strength and electricity. Closer to a taser than a static, like a strong shock prank gum. Sorry, I did make him more powerful.
((Sorry, but that still seems like a bit much. If you look at the other people, lots of them have no powers at all, but you have two powers, one very powerful and one almost as good. If you dropped the super strength, he would probably be fine, but now he just seems more like a superhero than a kid.))
((bella the aviatrix–Sure, Ingrid and Meilin can be roomies! Sorry for being a bit late.))
After making it past the secretary’s desk, Ingrid went to look for her room. As she searched, she wondered what on earth she was doing here. Her dad had told her that it had a prestigious swimming reputation, and she was excited about that, but somehow the school didn’t seem to be what she expected. You’ve only been here five minutes, she reprimanded herself. Everyone here is probably perfectly normal and nice. You’ll make friends; don’t worry. She found room 317 and went inside. A Chinese girl smiled up at her from where she was sitting.
“Hi! I’m Meilin, granddaughter of the Jade Emperor.”
Slightly taken aback, Ingrid mustered up a smile anyway. “I’m Ingrid. Nice to meet you.” She looked out the window, and was delighted to see the beach right there. It would take her two seconds to get from her room to the water. She turned around, and Meilin was staring at her expectantly.
“Who is your parent?” Meilin asked.
“My dad…he’s a marine biologist.” This still didn’t seem to be the answer Meilin was looking for.
“Who is your other parent?” Meilin persisted. Ingrid could tell that Meilin wasn’t being rude, but she was nonplussed anyway.
“Am I missing something? I only ever knew my dad,” she said.
“Oh dear. Ingrid, do you know what this school is for?”
“Well, I came because it has a great swimming program.”
“It’s actually a school for demigods.”
“What?” Ingrid started to laugh. “No way. Is this a joke?”
“No, I’m serious. People from all over the world come here because they’re half gods. It isn’t restricted to just the Greeks, though. There’s a couple Egyptians, and I’m Chinese.” She cocked her head. “You look kind of Greek to me. Maybe you’re the daughter of a water nymph or something. I’m sorry if it’s a shock to you. Don’t worry, some people came without any idea of who they were. But everyone here is nice, and if they aren’t nice, then they’re at least interesting. Should we go meet some people?”
“Sure.”
((I hope I portrayed Meilin rather accurately, bella. To everyone else: Ingrid isn’t dim, she’s just a bit naive. That’s one of her character flaws!))
I walked along the corridor, next to my roommate, Ingrid. I couldn’t believe no one had told her this was a school for demigods. Even my mother – who I was usually forbidden to see – had been allowed to accompany me on the flight to Bermuda and explain everything. It was rather a shock having a roommate who was totally new to even the concept of demigods, but I was sure we would bond. After all, I had only just found out myself about demigods 12 hours ago.
We passed the lobby again and made our way to the garden. A crowd of other students that looked about our age were huddled in a corner underneath a large banner that said: Welcome to the Antediluvian Academy for Demigods.
Ingrid looked up at it, stunned. Stuttering a little, she finally got the words out. ‘So it’s true, then…’
‘Well, yes, it’s true,’ I offered helpfully. ‘There really are demigods in the world, and most of them go to this school.” Catching sight of the look on her face, I added, ‘Don’t worry too much about it. I only found out myself about the whole ‘demigod’ thing a few hours ago. On the way here, in fact. Imagine! I was whisked away from my village onto an airplane before I even knew what was happening!’
Ingrid raised one eyebrow.
‘Oh, sorry! I do tend to go off topic a bit.’ I said easily, though blushing a bit. ‘Anyway, the point is, I’m sure most of the people here only just found out too. If you’re still worried, I’m sure we could ask someone.’
Ingrid stared around the garden, looking for a suitable authoritative figure. Most of the people strolling around seemed to be students, and as confident as I was, I didn’t really feel up to pestering an older student for answers.
‘Why don’t we find a teacher or something?’ I suggested.
‘Oh! All right, then…’ Ingrid’s gaze trailed helplessly around the large arena, searching for an adult. ‘Er, I don’t see any teachers, Meilin.’
I laughed. ‘Me neither. How about we ask that lady with the weird glasses? You remember the one at the reception desk? The one that gave us the keys?’
Ingrid nodded.
‘All right, let’s go!’
I raced across the garden back into the lobby. Ingrid followed behind, panting heavily. I turned to wait and she threw me a furious glare.
‘Um, sorry…?’ I asked uselessly. I hoped I hadn’t antagonized my room mate already.
She burst into laughter at the look on my face and said, ‘I’m only kidding! I don’t mind if you want to run ahead,’
Reassured, though still a bit concerned, I asked, ‘Er, would you like me to summon a cloud for you?’
‘WHAT?’ She gave me an incredulous look. ‘Did you say “summon a cloud”?’
‘Well, yeah…’ I shifted uncomfortably. ‘I’m not very good at it, well, I only just learned that I had this power. And you might be too heavy…’ I finished thoughtfully. ‘No offence,’ I added hastily.
There was an interested look on her face. ‘That’s sounds fascinating, but we’re already at the reception desk.’ She pointed, and we were, indeed, standing right in front of the reception. ‘I wish I had powers though,’ she said quietly, a little jealous, I was guessing. ‘Everyone else seems to have them, but I don’t.’
‘Don’t worry,’ I said cheerfully. ‘Maybe you have powers, but you don’t realize. That’s like me, for the first 12 years of my life. I mean, when would I ever have ‘accidentally’ summoned a cloud?’ I laughed. ‘Didn’t you mention you were good at swimming?’
‘I’m all right, I suppose…’ she muttered, looking embarrassed.
I was so distracted by our conversation that I failed to notice the glasses lady clear her throat ostentatiously. As I turned around at the sound, she recognized my face and snorted contemptuously. ‘Do you ever pay attention?’
‘Er, yeah. Yeah, I do, actually.’
She sniffed. ‘Doesn’t seem like it. Anyway, what do you want now?’
‘Er, my friend…er, room mate, she has a question.’
The lady turned her attention to Ingrid, standing next to me.
‘Yes? What do you want?’
((Hey, can we all put our character’s names beside our names? That would really help.))
I had finally fond the school store, and whaddya know-they had specially mixed hellhound food. I bought three bags and was s-l-o-w-l-y dragging them to my room. “Need some help?” asked a friendly voice. ” I looked up. A boy, about my age, with cute brown hair was grinning at me. “Oh, no, I’m fine.” I said, blushing ((mas0n, is it okay i Halena likes Mason a little?)) “Besides, you’re already carrying so much…”
“No problem!” He hefted one of the bags on each shoulder and one in his teeth. He looked like the Abdomidable Multicolored Snowman. I giggled. “What?” he asked. “Never mind…” I decided if I was going to like this boy, I would have to know who he is. “What’s your name?”
“Mason. And you?”
“Halena. Do you know who your parent is?”
“Nope, not yet. What about you?”
“I got claimed yesterday. Hades is my dad.” I said quickly.
“Hades, huh. Pretty tough break, if you ask me.” Mason said, grinning again. “I’m at room 304, if you don’t mind.” I asked.
“Oh, sure.” He put down my stuff outside. “Well, be seeing you!” And he walked away to deliver the rest of the suitcases. Can a daughter of the Greek god of Death fall in love? I dragged the bags inside my room, along with the super-sized doggie bowl I had also bought. I filled the bowl and Dethaeadove in. it may have been my mind, but when she was finished, she looked bigger. A thought ran through my mind. “When are we going to get our weapons? I can’t just order Dethaea to attack enemies all the time.”
((So the post did go through. My Internet was not cooperating last night. Note to Ingrid’s character: She has a great affinity for scarves.))
“I-I don’t think I should be here. There has to be a mistake,” Ingrid said. “I don’t have any special powers and no goddess has ever visited me. Frankly, I have no idea what I’m supposed to be doing here.” The lady sighed. She heard this a lot at the beginning of each year.
“What are your talents, dear?” She asked.
“Swimmig and diving.”
“Anything unusual?”
“I can hold my breath a lot longer than any of my friends and I’m a faster swimmer thhan anyone I know. But that’s not really that special–Michael Phelps could probably do that.”
“Take her down to the water,” the lady told Meilin. As they were going down to the beach, Ingrid said,
“If you show me that cloud thing, I’ll teach you how to surf.”
Meilin’s face lit up. “That sounds great! Well, here’s the water.”
Half nervous, half feeling like this was the craziest thing that ever happened to her, Ingrid walked into the ocean to about mid-knee.
“Hello dear.”
Ingrid yelped and scrambled back onto the sand, and watched with Meilin as a sea nymph appeared, bobbing on the waves. She was beautiful and Ingrid looked a lot like her.
“I’m been waiting a long time to talk to you,” she said, smiling fondly at her daughter. “My name is Ino, but you can call me Mom.”
“Hi mom,” Ingrid said shakily. “This is real?”
“Oh yes,” Ino said. “I’m so sorry, darling, that I could never talk to you before, but I can’t leave the water and it would have been a tremendous shock. I’m glad you’re at this school, with other children like you.” She smiled and nodded at Meilin. “You can talk to me any time you’re touching water. If not…” A swell broke, washing a shell to Ingrid’s feet. “Use this. No sea creature will ever harm you, and you will never drown. I have to go now. Call me whenever you need me!” A huge wave broke, and she was gone.
“She seems kind,” Meilin said as they trudged back to the school.
“Yeah…” Ingrid’s mid was in a whirl.
“I think some food should help. Dinner is probably soon. Race ya!” The girls took off, laughing, back to school.
((Alright. In my post, it’s about a week later, and Halena is pretty familiar with most of the students. But she doesn’t really have friends. Omorose and Clee are trying, though.))
I was walking in the garden wih Dethaea, like I always did during free period before dinner. Suddenlt, out of nowhere, Ingrid and Meilin ran through the garden, nearly knocking me over. “Sorry!” Ingrid called over her shoulder. They went inside the school. “Must be almost dinner.” I thought. Then, to Dethaea, “Come on, I’ll feed you before dinner.” Dethaea had grown since I got her and was almst as tall as me now. She was black as night and rippled with strong muscles. I climed on to her and told her to go to my room. She ran into the doorway into the school, knocking down the door for the third time that week. “Oh, well” I thought. “We’re here anyway.” I clied down and filled Dethaea’s bowl. While she was busy eating, I slipped out. When I got to the dining hall, there were alread some people there. I took my place at the end of one of the Greek tables and waited for more people to come ((The food, if it’s okay, is a Percy Jackson-type thing, where you think about it and it appears)) before ordering my dinner. Clee (Is that okay, soccer starr?)) came in and sat down next to me, as usual. “Mason is cute, isn’t he?” she said.
“What? No!” I replyed, my cheeks reddening.
“Oh, come on! Everyone knows you like him!” And then she leaned in and whispered, “I think he likes you, too!”
“What? No way! A Hade’s kid like me?! Nu-uh!”
Clee looked smug. I mean, I knew she was a daughter of Aphrodite ‘n all, but there was no way Mason liked me more than a friend. We just weren’t compatible! Hades and Zeus have been “rivals for ages! And Zeus’ son likes me? I just don’t see that. Chiron blew a horn, jolting me from my morbid thoughts. “Time to eat!” he said. I willed a hamburger, done rare, fries, and Sprite. I dug in, trying to drown my love in eating. But first, I went over to the fire and put in the biggest fries and best part of the burger in. “To the gods.” I murmed.
((Yeah, it’s fine! Sorry I haven’t been on here in a little while…))
“Thank you,” Omorose remarked to the girl who had explained things to her. The girl and her black dog walked away. They must really take freshman jokes seriously here, she thought to herself as she walked back towards her room. Suddenly, she bumped headfirst into another girl, and came dangerously close to falling into the lobby river.
“Oops!” she cried, helping the other girl up. “I’m terribly sorry! I seem to be knocking into everyone today.”
“That’s okay,” the other girl said, smiling. “I was just going to dinner. What’s you name?” She extended a hand to Omorose. “I’m Fatima. What’s you name?”
“I’m Omorose, it’s very nice to meet you!” The two shook hands. “Want to walk down to the dining hall together?” Omorose offered. She needed a friend, after all.
((I hope you don’t mind that I PPed you a bit, peary! I just wanted our characters to meet.
))
((No problem. You can PP me anytime you feel like.
))
I guessed that I had to find out who my roommate was. The annoying thing was I could figure out what God they were a daughter/son of, but I had no idea about who they were.
((Mason, can I be rooming with you?))
((I wish there could be some action now! Some of us get a quest, maybe, to stop Sebak/Adrian?))
((RPG’s here move pretty slow. I don’t want people to find out that Sebak is evil for a long, long time. We’re barely even settled in. I think we ought to move this story slower.))
((Yeah, I know. But I’m bored! *pied for being whiney* I probably deserved that.))
I ran up the to the school door and slid inside. With Dad gone again on another business trip, it was only possible for me to come late, as always. A whole week late. After signing in, I raced up the steps, and made my way to my room. There was obviously someone’s stuff there, so I dropped my bags on the other bed and raced down to dinner.
((Can someone meet me in the hall? I’m a bit lost…))
((I changed it to 2 days, so it’s going at a slower pace. Just FYI.))
((Yeah, I got that.))
IKORA:
“307?” I stared at my schedule. “Oh, that’d be me. Are you my roomie, then?” I fixed the girl with a cold stare. I couldn’t believe I was in the Unclaimed wing–after all, Cleo and I both knew who my godly parent was. Who else but Loki, the god of tricksters?
But of course, Dad’s too busy to come and claim me. Maybe he will now that I’m here. It sure took a while to find this place, but we managed it, right? Not that Mom’ll care. She couldn’t wait to get rid of me. I was a disappointment to her and her….other… children, and her stupid little perfect friends.
Oh well, might as well go to 307 now. I wonder if I’ll like this other girl. I wonder if she likes to play cards. Maybe I can win some money tonight…..
CLEO:
“Hi! Are you my roommate?” I asked the other girl with cat ears, happy that there was finally someone else like me.
“Yup, I think so. I’m Felina.”
“Cleopatra,” I replied. “Most people call me Cleo… well, Ikora does anyway. My full name’s Cleopatra Alexandria Drake.”
Laughing, Felina replied, “Felina Cailin Teris.”
“I think I’ll call you Caili.”
“All right, Andri then. Who’s Ikora?”
“My best friend. She’s a demigod too.”
“You know then?”
“Yup. I know who my godly parent is, too, but I haven’t been claimed yet.”
“And that is….?”
“Bastet, or Bast. The–”
“Egyptian goddess of cats, and my mother? Yeah, I know.”
I stared at her. We were sisters?
“So that makes us half-sisters, then….” I said, trying to make this fit in my brain.
“Yes, I guess so….”
((Sorry, this is kind of not in the same timeline as everyone else’s….))
((Could we not skip a week? I don’t think everybody is settled in, and I really don’t want to arrive after everyone else is already here and settled in and everything. Usually, if we’re skipping time, it’s debated between people, and not just randomly added by one person who’s getting impatient. I understand that feeling, LBK, but really, now is not the time for action. We’ve just got settled in. Some of us haven’t gotten there yet, and most of us aren’t claimed. Please wait for us all to be here, at least.))
((Sorry. I’m a bit impatient sometimes.))
((Can anyone bring Stephen in? He’s really smart, loves computers, and sings horribly. Plus, he’s one of Lillian’s closest friends.))
I was still wondering about the messenger bag, trying to decide whether or not it would be worth it to try to touch it anyway, when the girl introduced herself and said something about Apollo.
“Oh,” I said, confused. “I’m Annette, and apparently I’m in 311. Thanks.” I dragged one of my suitcases over to the door with 311 engraved on it and fiddled with the key for a second before getting it open. “So, um, where is the freshman assembly and what does Apollo have to do with anything?”
((I guess once Annette gets claimed she’ll move in with Lillian in the Greek wing? She went through all that trouble getting her suitcases in her room for nothing… ^^))
((That’s what I thought!))
Lillian:
“Well, let’s get to your temporary room first,” I told Annette. We made small talk on the way there.
“I’ll get to explaining Apollo later. First, we need to get to that assembly!” I said enthusiastically, “Follow me. Your room is this way.”
I maneuvered my way around until we got there. She dropped her bags on the carpet and we went straight back out. Finally, we arrived at the assembly.
“Here it is! Don’t be nervous, everything will be fine,” I assured her as she looked up nervously at the large banner that read “Welcome to the Antediluvian Academy for Demigods!” I nudged her in and she slowly walked in, in a daze. I sighed. I’m horrible at this. I wished Stephen was here. He’s probably working on one of his projects. I rushed in to watch and see who Annette will be claimed by.
I stared around the room, and then tapped the shoulder of someone next to me. “Hi, can you explain this to me?”
The woman looked at me. “You’re at the Antediluvian Academy for Demigods. For children who have a godly parent. See, you’re being claimed now.” She pointed just above my head, calmly, like this happened every day. For all I knew, it did.
I looked up to see a small caduceus shining above my head. Slowly it faded. “Congratulations,” the woman continued, still in that calm, vague sort of way. “You’re a daughter of Hermes. Your new room is 537.” She handed me a key that was nearly identical to the one I had before.
I tried to remember everything I had learned in school about Hermes, thinking that if this was what they did at this school I ought to know as much about my “father” as possible. But I remembered how I never knew my father and my mom never talked about him. Maybe it was true.
Then I realized that I would have to move my bags again.
Annette came out of the assembly, a bit dazed, with a caduceus floating above her head. I clapped my hands together.
“A daughter of Hermes! Cool! Hey, what’s your new room?” I ask.
“537,” she tells me.
“No way! That’s my room!” I tell her. I finally got to meet my new roommate.
((I’m not going to play this character, just introduce him:
Name: No one is sure. Most students call him “The Old Guy” or “The Old Dude.” A few say they’ve heard faculty members refer to him as “Mr. Lao.”
Personality: Quiet, good-humored, unhurried.
Role: He works at the school. His precise job is unclear; he seems to be a combination gardener, janitor, and handyman. Some students think that he is simpleminded and has been given a job out of charity. Actually, he is a sort of demigod himself — a child of the Tao — and is the school’s real principal or headmaster, whatever the official staff roster might say. In the words of the Tao Te Ching:
A leader is best
When people barely know that he exists,
Not so good when people obey and acclaim him,
Worst when they despise him.
“Fail to honor people,
They fail to honor you”;
But of a good leader, who talks little,
When his work is done, his aim fulfilled,
They will all say, “We did this ourselves.”))
((If I may, then, I’ll play “The Old Guy” (whose real name is obvious to me, who has studied this set of philosophies). But I usually need yelling at, to some extent, to keep me going in RPGs. I tend to forget things. But then again, that could make me the most fitting person for this character.))
((Various posts- SLOW DOWN! Please. Most people on our list have hardly even asserted themselves yet. What happened to a Welcome-to-the-academy-speech ? The faster RPGs try to go, the more confusion it creates. You have to wait for at least 75% of the people to show up before skipping ahead. Lets stay on the first day, p*ese.
What happened to my post on this thread yesterday? I could have sworn that I posted something here. Never mind. My suggestion was that all the first years room together, regardless of mythology, until the first test are passed. Otherwise this is too confusing. Besides, crossovers are much more fun. They can all move to the right wings after they’ve passed their first test/exam/final and have been claimed.))
Victoria:
I stared back. “Yes, it seems I am. Of course, I’ve already been claimed so I don’t see the point of not rooming in the greek wing, but it seems that that’s where I’ve been assigned.”
((I think they’ll either end up hating or liking each other. How’s the mytology confrontation going to work out- should Ilkora win or do they accidentally blow up the deck of cards because they’re both trying so hard and using their powers?))
((Is the welcome speech going to be at the dinner that a few of us are currently rushing into?
And if there are different wings for different mythologies, who do I stay with? *feels left out*
JK. But still, who WOULD I room with? Do we have to have the different wings idea?
And as you said, crossovers are fun.
*is confused*))
((That would be good. Who’s your god parent? *looks* Maybe you get to choose which wing you want to stay in? It would be impractical to make a wing for Chinese/Native American demigods, seeing as how there’s only on of each. Does that sound good?))
((91- First years rooming together seems like a good idea. Koppar, is it okay if Tala is still my roommate? bookgirl_me, do you have an idea on what the test is? Maybe you have to show something with your powers, or something like that.))
“What?!” I exclaimed.
“I’m afraid so. We decided it during the counsel last night.” said Chiron.
I was fuming. It’s not fair that I have to move back to the “unclaimed” wing, even though I’ve been claimed! “But why?”I asked.
“We decided that newcomers should be tested on their abilities before they can move. You will be moving back into your original room tommorow.”
I had to admit, it wasn’t a bad idea. The chance to train and hone my fighting skills was great. But I was always humiliated on the battlefield. A sword just didn’t feel right in my hands. But maybe I just had to practice, I thought as I headed back to my room to collect my things. “Where are we going?” asked Dethaea. “Room 301. Meet you there. Don’t-” But Dethaea had already left. I sighed. I would have to train her to not knock down doors all the time. Old Guy was busy enough. When I got to room 301, the door was hanging by one of its hinges. “Hi, I’m Tala. Remember? We met on the first day of school. Your hellhound is cute!” “Yeah, she is, isn’t she.” I replyed as I tossed by bags on the other bed((Is it okay if there’s two beds in each room?)).
((I thought of it as a sort of final composed of two parts: one written exam about various monsters, gods, heros, mythologies, e.t.c…, (i.e. your basic need-to-know) and one practical part where you have to fight a random monster in an arena (you get to chose one weapon and use your powers).))
((Classwork plus physical experience. Sounds like scuba certification.))
((
It does, doesn’t it!))
((Ah, you were bound to notice…
))
((I think that’s agreat idea!! My only suggestion is that either the writing shouldn’t be worth as much as the actual fighting, or that you have to know different monsters, their powers, and their weaknesses.))
((Guys, y’know my post that I said was a week later? Would it be more reasonable if it was 2 days after I got claimed? I’m also not going to post until everyone is settled or if I need to, i.e. someone asks me to explain things to her/him.))
((Thanks. I’m sorry, but I need this a bit slower. I have two exams next week, I’ve got 25k more words to write for NaNo in nine more days (!!!) and really should start doing english homework before I flunk, and… let’s just say I’ve got a lot going on and it’s hard to keep up.))
((I’m not really sure where everyone is, but I guess I’ll assume that it’s right after Chiron made the speech that all first years will be rooming together until they pass the test…is that ok? Halena (LBK), I wanted to get another chance to talk to you but it seems like you’re already in the room so would it be confusing if I back up a little and talk to you when you’re still outside? If not, just ignore this post.))
I smirked as I watched Halena glance over at Mason shyly with a hopeful shining in her eyes. Even if she didn’t think Mason liked her back, I could definitely see potential with the pair. After all, who cares about stupid rivalries between parents? I sure didn’t…
“Hey!” I said as I smiled at Halena. “Kinda sucks you have to move back into your original room, right?” I asked. Halena just shrugged.
“I guess…it’s a little unfair, since I’ve already been…y’know, claimed.”
I’ll write more soon if this is ok!))
((Yeah, this is fine! Thanks for your “help!”
By the way, sorry if this is PoPo, but, why double parentheses? It’s just been bugging me, that’s all.))
((Double parentheses are for text that don’t have to do with the actual story. Planning, questions, so forth. The story itself isn’t written in double parentheses.))
((Well, yes, I now that much, but why not, I don’t now, # signs or somethig? Who started the (()) thing?))
((Because parentheses are for asides. Double parentheses show that it’s very aside the story line.))
LittleBasementKitten:
As far as I can tell, the first MuseBlogger to use double parentheses for embedded comments on the blog was Ebeth, in September 2005.
The first person to use them in a Round-Robin ‘Riting thread was Phoebe, a month later.
The first person to state “officially” how to use them was groundhog22, in January 2008.
((I think the general consensus coming from everyone is that we shouldn’t move the storyline more than a day for now. LBK, I know you’re feeling impatient, but when you’re making a story with other people you have to listen to what they want to do as well, and not just move by what you want to happen. I think everyone else needs a bit more time to develop their characters and interact with one another. It’s good to be creative, but please, please wait until everyone else agrees with you to change the storyline so drastically. Thanks.
))
((Ok, I’ll hold off so we can allow some more time for everyone to get a feel for this. Thanks.))
((I mean, there’s no need to stop writing, but maybe we could just stay on today/ tomorrow for now. A lot of characters still haven’t even been claimed yet.
))
((OK, sure. I get what you’re saying. If the pace is slower it will be easier to follow along anyway…
))
(( Yeah, I get what you’re saying. soccer starr, maybe I went for a walk to vent my anger and saw Mason.))
((That’s a good idea!!))
((I guess I could watch the testing with Chiron before actually having my first class.))

APPEARANCE: Tall, shoulder length hair. Everything about him is long. He has long legs, long arms, a long body, long fingers, long toes, a long face, a long nose, long ears, a long mouth. Long long long. (Has anyone seen Freaks and Geeks? He looks like a bit like Harris.)
BACKGROUND: Father was very unsuccessful at writing plays, and before long he was too poor to support Erin. Melpomene convinced the Academy to take Erin, although he was only four at the time. Erin grew up at the Academy, always getting along very well with the students there. In the summers, he would go live with his dad, but not for the holidays. When he grew old enough to attend the Academy as a school, he got a job working in the Academy library after school hours to pay for his tuition, and when he was 15, he got a night job working in the kitchen, and sent most of the money back to his dad. He is ashamed of how poor he is, and hides the fact from his friends.
TRAITS: Has mood swings a lot. Sometimes he’ll love hanging out with his friends, and the next second he just wanders off and sits on his own for a while. Knows as much about the school as some of the teachers, and enjoys helping the new students find their place, but sometimes is a bit depressing to them. (He has a talent for that. Depressing people is his strong point.) Most people see him as a pretty happy, helpful person, but those who know him better see that he’s pretty sad inside.))
((I’ll do some RPing later. I’m sorta confuzzled right now.))
((Freaks and Geeks is one of my favorite series, and Harris is a wonderful character.))
((I missed that one. I think by the time I was aware of its existence, it was already off the air.))
((Is that an old TV show? I’ll have to look for that on YouTube if it is. Sounds like my kind of show, seeing as how I’m a Pokemon geek ‘n all. :D))
((It’s not that old, but they took it off the air because it wasn’t getting it enough fans in time. I’m watching it from Netflix.))
((Ah. I wonder why it wasn’t that popular?))
((It was. It was getting a lot of fans, but just not quite fast enough for them to take the risk of continuing the show. Sort of like Firefly.
((Can Sidra room with Erin?))
((Do you mean Fatima? peary changed the name, if that’s who you’re talking about. Also, I’m gonna make a character for anyone who stumbles upon the thread, falls in love with it, but doesn’t have a character. I’ll make a boy and a girl, probably twins)):
Name-Cailin and Cadeo Hunter
Age-12 (can be interchanged)
Appearence-Except for the fact that Cadeo has short hair and Cailin has long hair, they look very much alike. They have green, almost scaley eyes that glint like they have a secret all the time, white-blond hair with slight green streaks, both on the short side with sharper-than-usual teeth. Can be tricky and hard to figure out, but if you befriend them, they won’t dump you.
Parentage-Sobek, god of protection from crocodiles and Alex Hunter, herpetologist who specializes in large reptiles (tortoises, crocodiles etc.)
Backround-One day, while working with a crocodile, Alex slipped and fell into the enclosure. Sobek saw and prevented the croc from mauling her. He fell in love and, since Alex could see through the Mist (please can it be Mist? Please????) they had twins. Sobek visits often to check up on Alex and told her about the Antedeluvian Acadamy. Cailin and Cadeo have known they were demigods for a long time. as soon as they turned 12, their mother sent them to the academy.
Powers-They can shift into crocodiles and talk to all reptiles with their minds. ((I hope that’s not over doing it with the powers.))
((Veil. Not Mist. Veil.))
((Sidra is one of AvalonGirl’s characters, and Erin is SudoRandom’s character (who’s a guy, by the way, Mira-chan).))
((When was “Veil” decided? Oh. I didn’t catch Erin and Sidra.))
((It wasn’t, but it’s my suggestion. It’s that or Glamour.))
((I like Veil better. Glamor just sounds too…girly!))
((…And
ISidra cares why?))((Rooming with RQ instead of SR.))
I groaned, slumped on the table. 15 minutes had already passed since we had come in the dining room, and almost no one else had come in yet.
‘Isn’t dinner time supposed to be at 7?’ I asked Ingrid, sitting next to me.
‘I thought so, but no one else is here yet.’
‘I guess we’ll just have to wait a little longer. Don’t people realize it’s dinner time? I’m hungry!’
Ingrid smiled. ‘How are you sure the food here’s even that good?’
‘I’m not sure. But I’m hungry.’
We both sighed, and resumed our positions, slumped in our seats and staring at the table.
((Can Anna be a first year?
Also, what if there are 4-7 students per dorm, like in Harry Potter?))
Anna came downstairs, exhausted from unpacking. She tended to be a neat freak, and had set up her side of the dorm so it was as cozy and tidy as possible. Her bed was closest to the fireplace, which was technically a fire hazard, but Anna wasn’t scared. Flames couldn’t hurt her unless she wanted them to.
She passed the Old Guy, who was fixing a wall socket, and reached the table. Spotting an empty chair, close to two other girls, she sat down.
((Ooh, that’s a good idea! Would it be bunk beds, or just really big rooms? Also, is it still yesterday’s dinnertime, or todays breakfast?))
((Yesterday, since no-one else has showed up.))
((My suggestion is that it’s still dinnertime.))
((I think it’s the first day’s dinnertime, since some of us are waiting for the welcome speech in the dining room. And waiting for others to join us at dinner.))
((Okay then my post about dinner happened after all your posts, I guess.))
((This is after everyone has shown up, so it’s okay if you rewind a bit to get your character in.))
“Attention! Everyone? Attention!” said Old Guy. “Chiron has an announcement!” The (room? pavilion?) quieted down as Chiron walked up to the microphone. “Thank you. I just want to say welcome! And to our older sudents, welcome back! Now, the food here works in a strange way. You think about the food, and it appears on our plate (Is that okay with everyone that it’s like in P.J.? If not, what should it be?). Now, let’s eat!” Suddenly, Clee’s plate was piled up with…veggie burgers?! “Gotta watch my weight, y’ know.” she said with a wink. ((Note; after this is my other post about dinner, which I can’t seem to find. It was just Halena getting a hamburger and sacrificing part of it in the fire. soccer starr, I hope I portrayed Clee okay, her being the daughter of Aphrodite.))
((Um, I don’t think the Old Guy would be giving announcements like that. Remember, he’s the unofficial Headmaster, there’s another one for things like that. This is the mysterious guy no-one knows about.))
ERIN
I see a girl fill her plate with vegetarian burgers, and explain that she is keeping herself thin.
“You know,” I say to her, “Dieting at your age isn’t healthy, unless you’re overweight or obese. In fact, it’s never healthy unless you’re one of those two. And by keeping your weight this low, you’re only succumbing to media telling you that you’re ugly otherwise. Do you really think that if you’re not able to see someone’s ribs, they’re hideous? I think that’s a bit unfair, don’t you? No more than 30 years ago, people liked their superstars a bit more filled out. They might even find you ugly for being so skinny. Real beauty comes when you feel the most comfortable in your body, not when you look most like the ladies in magazines. I assume you’re a daughter of Aphrodite?”
The girl nodded.
((Sorry, Soccer Starr, Erin does that all the time. If it starts to annoy anyone, let me know.))
((Oh, laugh now, but remember, Daughter of Hades, that Erin comes after all, and is impartial and very generous with his punishments. He may be coming after you soon. So laugh now, but remember that it may be the last laugh you have for a loooong time. *ominous music*
))
((Oh, you think I’m kidding? Because I’m not. Your end will come sooner than you think.))
((
))
((You’re more likely to see the Old Guy raking leaves or unclogging your toilet.))
((Oh no, it’s perfect. It fits your character wonderfully, and I can definitely see Clee eating veggie burgers like that…sorry you guys have been having to write me in most of the time, I’ll write some more now too!))
((I agree with SR. My character would never make such an announcement. He’s not even around at the moment. For both you and anyone else, I think it would be best if people didn’t PP The Old Guy.))
((Right. I’m just kinda new at RPG. So who makes the announcements then, for future notice?))
((Okay, I know I’m a bit late. I wasn’t sure how to start.))
I arrive in front of the academy very late, sighing as I drop the canvas bag holding my few belongings. I finger my screwdriver absentmindedly, shoulder the bag, and enter to find the lobby empty. ‘Everyone must be at dinner,’ I think. I wander self-consciously into what I think is the dining hall and gasp at the size. Wandering to the first empty seat I see, I mutter, “Is this seat taken?” A nearby boy shakes his head and I sit down, depositing my bag under the table. I’m just thinking about how some food would be nice when the plate in front of me fills with my favorite foods. My eyes widen in surprise. I shrug and begin to eat.
((Um? RQ? I just realized that Clee has been at the school for a year already, so Erin probably already knows her and that she’s a daughter of Aphrodite. Sorry, I only mentioned that before in my profile earlier so it’d be easy to miss. How about we just say that they don’t get along and are always pestering each other, especially since Erin is all about logic and spouting out facts and Clee just wants to make a good impression on the guys. (Perhaps Erin is the only guy who isn’t impressed by Clee?) If not, that’s ok, but just a suggestion.))
I rolled my eyes when I noticed Erin, resident nerd, walk over to the table. Before long he started lecturing me on the importance of eating healthy, blah, blah, blah. Why did I care? It was none of his business what I ate…
((Why are you talking to me? Erin is SR’s character.))
((Oh cake, sorry. I meant to write SR, not RQ. For some reason I often mix the two initials up. Sorry.))
((A proposition: any post that is an actual part of the story (dialog, narration, etc.) should be on the primary comment level. Nested comments should be limited to clarification, discussion, and other such things that are not directly moving the story along (i.e., double parentheses-type posts). Otherwise people are carrying on the storyline in eight different places in the thread, which will lead to great confusion.))
((I was about to say the same thing, but I probably couldn’t have worded it like you did. Muchos gracias.))
((Agreement. And also, while we’re on the topic, please ask someone before you drastically PP their character. One or two lines that make no amends to the character are okay, but if you’re going to have them fall in love with your character, become mortal enemies, take them to a movie, etc., it would be best to ask the person controlling them beforehand.
))
Just a general note of caution to those who are new to RPG.
Fatima and Omorose sat down at the long table, where their plates instantly filled with food. Omorose began to eat a piece of rye bread with jelly on top of it, and took a swig of cider. It was a strange meal, but that was what she was hungry for. Next to her sat a long, thin boy who was lecturing an overly prety girl on how keeping herself stick-thin wasn’t healthy.
“Agreed,” Omorose added, wolfing down a chicken finger.
“Then again, healthy food is well preferred to junk,” the boy said, giving her the eye.
“Yeah, I guess you’re…HEY!” Omorose looked up indignantly, then laughed a bit herself. After all, it was true.
Adonia and Alexandria rushed into the school. They were late, as promised, but not so late as they could have been. The hall was empty.
Adonia frowned. “I wonder where every one is?”
Alexandria shrugged. “Maybe dinner. I’m hungry.”
“Good idea. Let’s go see.”
They ran off, following the signs.
((I’m finally here. I’ll RP more later though.))
((Soccer Starr- Yeah, Erin is my character, and I imagine he would have distanced himself from most people in the school, and would not know (or care, for that matter) that she was a daughter of Aphrodite.)
Aggie- That made me laugh out loud. I think you may have captured Erin so perfectly right there, I can’t top it. If I weren’t in Firefox, I would take a picture of that right now.))
ERIN
“Anyway, I don’t see you eating anything at all”, said the Aphrodite girl. “Isn’t that less healthy than eating Veggie Burgers?”
“Oh, but I wouldn’t want to overeat.”
“Well, you can hardly overeat when you haven’t eaten anything!”
“I already ate, thank you very much.”
“Well, eating quickly causes cramps and hiccups. Aren’t those unhealthy?”
“Yes, which is why I took my time. I don’t often eat at the same time as everyone else, you know. I operate on a 28 hour day schedule. It’s far superior, and allows me to take full advantage of the night classes offered here. Besides, it leaves me time for… other things that I might like to be doing. You could probably use the extra time, judging from the amount of makeup caked onto your face.”
DR. KORLIN
I ate at the teachers’ table, looking out into the dining room to survey the new students. There seemed to be several loud conversations going on at a table near the door, where I could make out several girls, some Greek-looking, some who seemed Egyptian.
I looked forward to seeing them in class.
Two very similar-looking Greek girls rushed in through the doorway to the dining room and looked about wildly for a place to sit. I waved them over; there were two spots at our table. They both sat down, panting. Instantly their two empty plates filled up with food.
The shorter of the two looked up worriedly and asked, ‘We’re not too late, are we?’
I shook my head. ‘Dinner just started. You guys missed the announcement, but there wasn’t much stuff we needed to know that you didn’t hear.’
‘Are you guys sisters?’ Ingrid asked.
‘Well, we’re actually cousins, but it sometimes feels that way. Especially when Alexandria annoys me.’ She glanced over at Alexandria, laughing. Alexandria gave her an icy glare and turned back to her food.
‘Don’t worry, she can be like that sometimes. She’s all right, really. I’m Adonia, by the way.’
Ingrid laughed. ‘Nice to meet you, Adonia. I’m Ingrid, and this is Meilin.’
Adonia nodded. ‘Ah. Thought you were Chinese. Admittedly I haven’t heard of many Chinese gods, though. Who’s your parent?’
I smiled. ‘Well, my grandfather’s the Jade Emperor – the ruler of the heavens or something like that. What room are you in?’
((Is that ok with you Errata? If not just ignore this post.))
((107- Mostly, except that Alexandria isn’t greek, she’s Egyptian. Hence the name. And they previously didn’t annoy each other that often, but I suppose everybody would eventually, so it’s fair to assume they do.))
“Oh- We haven’t found out yet. The receptionist wasn’t there, so we thought we could come back later to find out. So I don’t know if we’re in the same room or not… Anyway, where do I get food? And how did Alexandria get it already?”
Alexandria looked up. “I thought about what I wanted to eat. It appeared. Try it.”
She did, and it appeared properly. “Wow,” she commented, before digging in.
((Sorry! I didn’t realize.))
((Can we p*wese be mostly first-years? Otherwise we won’t have a lot of classes together. It’s determined by year of arrival, not by age.))
Victoria:
Time for dinner. I headed downstairs and took a place at a table where some annoying kid had just finished lecturing everyone 28 hours workdays. I’d seen him around; he seemed to like to talk so that I could eat in peace. There were also more free seats, so that Sudelan and maybe Ilkora could join me ((I have no idea where she is. I’m assuming that she stayed in the room to pack)). The other big table was occupied by some chattering girls. I caught a snippet of their conversation in passing “Well, my grandfather’s the Jade Emperor …”. Just the type of table I wanted to avoid. My goddess mother had suddenly brought my world crashing down around me and hadn’t had the decency to leave me a message or even visit me.
I grabbed a seat with a brief hi! at the end of the Erin- or was it Eric? Something like that- table, pinching a veggie burger en passant. I then ordered a bunch of power bars, slid them into my bag and ate my burger with a root-beer float instead. The burger was big enough and I needed to restock my provisions. This school was …useful, but, like my adoptive dad always said, keep your eyes on the goal. When I was little, I made “What I want to achieve lists”. I’d stopped those a long time ago, but here was my new rendition:
1) Find Nike
2) Find the monster who broke my arm ((it’s still in a sling, but will be healed soon)) and make it pay, nice and slow
3) Have a life outside this school of freaks
I was not going to spend my future coped up here and have to give up all my ambitions. I would figure out how to deal with this, then I’d make myself a place in the outside world. So far, the mythology world had either ignored or tried to kill me. Not very appealing.
“You’re supposed to sacrifice the best bit of your meal!” someone at my table said. I ignored en; thinking of her had put me in a bad mood. Everyone else was preparing to do so. There was a poke. “I’ll give the gods food when they’ve earned it.” I said loudly.
((New character. Another one coming soon to be her love interest, as soon as I figure him out….))
((Name: Miyuki Ayazawa
Age: 14
Parents: Daisuke Ayazawa, a meteorologist, and a yuki-onna (Japanese snow goddess).
Description: White hair usually kept in a ponytail. She has side bangs that are a darker silver on the left side–in fact, all of her hair’s darker on the left. (Don’t worry, it’s dyed. No Mary Sueness here.) Pupilless grayish-silverish eyes. Very, very pale. Her body temperature is several degrees colder than normal humans’. She always wears snowflake earrings that were given to her by her mother–they’re real snowflakes, magically preserved to keep from melting.
Personality: Kinda emotionless, but when she has a crush she is obsessed. Love is pretty much the only strong emotion she can feel, except anger towards any guy who turns her down….
Background: Lived in Japan most of her life, except for the summers. Her mother takes her to a cold country every summer. She’s one of the lucky demigods–her mother lives with her and her father, under the pseudonym Yuki Ayazawa. Her father doesn’t know, and if he ever finds out Yuki’s true nature she will disappear (sound familiar to anybody? Yes? Good.). Miyuki has known about her mother’s true nature since she was three, when she and her mother were outside during the summer and Miyuki somehow figured out how to make herself a crown of ice. After this, Yuki was sure that Miyuki had inherited at least some of her powers, and was determined to keep it a secret from Daisuke. When Miyuki was old enough, Yuki decided to send her to the Academy, hoping it would be safer for her…
Powers: Can create almost anything from ice and snow.
Weaknesses: The small layer of ice around her heart, which makes her body temperature cold and her susceptible to heat. She counters this with her snowflake earrings and various shirts/shawls/scarves that she makes out of snow.
((Fine, Mira-chan, and a mint lollipop.))
((Hey, my body temperature is slightly lower than normal humans’! What could this mean? It means I have a very boring and useless fact to put on “getting to know you” cards!))
SIDRA
As I was looking for somebody who could compliment my flame powers, I noticed a angry-looking girl who was being harassed. I closed my eyes and sighed.
“Hey, I have no problems with not giving away your food-no matter who you are-so leave her alone! Otherwise…”
I opened my eyes, pushing a bit of power to them, so they appeared as for-like crimson. I also released a bit of killing intent to make people be quiet.
“I will find a tragedy person’s child, and I will make your life a living hell. I’ve heard you bother a person once about not representing their spectral side, make sure I don’t hear it again, or my killing intent will not be something you want to deal with.”
And with that, I simply turned around and walked away, my search for someone complimenting my powers-there! Someone who gave off cool air.
Totally a yuki-onna child.
Now, if I could just get over to the girl…
((Sorry, I haven’t been on for a while.))
As I was still eating, two younger girls rushed in. I noticed Meilin waving them over. One of them filled their plate, then explained how to do it to the other. I wished I could make friends that easily…I heard Victoria say she wouldn’t sacrifice any of her food. BOOM!!! A thunderclap shook the lunch tables and made the youngest kids dive under the table. I was sorely tempted to join them. We all glared at Victoria, who finally got up and put a bite of her burger in the fire. The storm stopped as quickly as it had come. I looked back over at the two new girls. I think I heard Meilin call the shorter one Adonia. “What a pretty name,” I thought.
((LBK, could you please read comment 102 and replies? Thank you.))
((Sorry. Old habit.
Won’t happen again.))
((Eh? What is this about a tragedy person’s child?))
((Since this is another RPG where I can’t keep everything straight, I’ll keep everyone’s information written down. If you need a reference, just ask.))
Ingrid glared at someone eating fish sticks nearby; the smell of dead/cooked marine life made her feel ill. She put a bit of her salad in the fire, and then turned back to the conversation. Adonia and Alexandria’s rooms were right across the hall from hers and Meilin’s.
“If we have some free time, do you want to learn how to surf?” She asked them.
MIYUKI
It’s a pity the school had to be somewhere so warm. It’s draining my powers to have to create snow shawls all the time.
I’m awfully late, I know–it must be dinnertime already. I hope no one notices my odd eating habits. It’s not that I care about being teased, I just care that a cute guy could notice me being teased and decide I wasn’t worthy of him. I hate when that happens. People end up getting hurt when that happens.
I slip into the dining hall as quietly as possible and stare at the golden plate someone sticks in front of me. A mint lollipop appears on it.
Oooookay. That works, I think, popping it into my mouth. Nearby, an argument breaks out when some girl refuses to sacrifice part of her food, or something. How the heck am I supposed to sacrifice part of a mint lollipop? You don’t care, right, Mom? The other kami shouldn’t care…. that’s just for Greeks. Right?
Thunder rolls.
Uh-oh…
Oh, false alarm. It’s just a cute guy making a dramatic entrance.
Really cute, actually.
Uh-oh.
IKORA
After I finished unpacking (my side of the room was totally messy…. and it kinda spilled over into Vicky’s side…. oops.), I wandered down to dinner, trying to find a familiar face. Unfortunately, the only person I’d “met” was my annoying roomie. Sighing, I wandered over to her table, where some geeky guy appeared to be lecturing a popular girl about her eating habits. I like him already. I could probably find a way to use him, too… if he does this to everyone, which I’m assuming he does. Oh, and the only open seat was next to Vicky. Joy.
CLEO
Caili and I walked up to our room in slightly awkward silence…. ((Avalon? D’you mind RPing us going to the dining hall?))
((Heehee. I sense a long-lasting
happyabusive relationship between Erin and Ikora.))((As do I.
I love Ikora already. She’s so… human…. XD))
Maya~
I sat down, next to two students that looked like they might be new like me. I visualized my food, and sighed wistfully as chicken, orange salad, and a few pieces of garlic bread appeared on my plate. Dad always made this the first night after he came back home from his business trips. It was a bit appropriate, I decided, this being my first evening at a place far away from home, where I would be for a long time.
I cut off a piece of chicken and tossed it in the fire. Hope you enjoy Dad’s chicken, Mom, I think, and walk back to my spot.
((I need a roommate. Is there anyone who doesn’t have one yet?))
((I don’t, but my character’s male, so could we still room together?))
((Hmm… I also need a male roomie. I could room with you, and that character that AG wanted to room with me but who was female could room with Maya!))
((That sounds good. Except aren’t we different mythologies? Are the dorms mixed between the mythologies?))
((Nope. And Avalon’s character Sidra is rooming with Miyuki.))
((Whatever. Erin probably sleeps in a coffin in the basement anyway.))
((115- I need two roommates. Goddess of Night… Probably better with Alexandria. That work? I still need a roommate for Adonia…))
Adonia scraped a portion of her food into the fire, following everyone else’s example. Alexandria did too, although she didn’t remember the Egyptian gods being a fan of that sort of thing. Never hurt to be too cautious though, did it?
((Sure.))
((Well, since it might be 4-7 people per room, she can room with me and Tala if it’s okay with you and Koppar.))
“So,” Fatima said as Omorose finished her bread, “who’s your god parent?”
“Hm?” said Omrose, looking up.
“Which god is your mother, or father?” Fatima wore a completely straight face. Omorose looked at her a moment, then laughed.
“You’re not still no about that freshman prank, are you?”
Everyone around them grew silent, and stared at her. Omorose’s face fell. “What are you staring at?”
“It’s not a joke,” Erin said, giving her an incredulous look. “You’re a demigod.”
“That’s completely ludicrous!” Omorose cried. “Magic isn’t real. There’s no such thing as ‘gods’.” A clap of thunder shook the hall as it rained down.
“Yes there are,” said many of the people standing around. “We have god parents.”
“If you don’t believe us, go look yourself up,” said someone. “You’re in the registry.”
“I…I have to go,” said Omorose, running out of the hall as fast as she could. She needed to find a phone. There was something very wrong. Her eyes were stinging and growing hot. Why would her parents keep secrets from her?
((Umm, LKB, Victoria’s mother is ignoring her, and she doesn’t do thunderclaps. Besides, Vicky… is quite stubborn. She wouldn’t have sacrificed. Try not to PP.))
Victoria:
I kept eating. Nothing happened. Not even a low growl. Fine. You can ignore me if you want, but someday, I’m going to make you listen. Count on it. And I refuse to grovel. Basta. Ilkora sat next to me. She didn’t look very pleased to see me. After a long look, I decided the feeling was mutual.
((ARRRRGGGGGHHHH! Okay, I’m officially no good at PPing. I won’t do it anymore.))
((Name: Kenji Itami
Age: 15 (second-year)
Parents: Miko Itami, a human woman, and a shinigami whose name I cannot come up with
Description: He has black hair, black eyes, pale, wears all black. Most people think he’s kinda creepy and stay away from him, but the goth-ish girls think he’s hot. He’s a major loner.
Powers: Er… you don’t want to know.))
((Yes, actually, I do want to know. Please tell me.))
((I do too.))
((Killing people. He may or may not have a Death Note, I don’t know yet… it would definitely be fun if he had one…. XD))
((Oh, and he needs a roomie….. he’s a second-year… anyone? Male second-year?))
((Sudelan. needs. a. roommate. Will someone please be it?))
((Adrian can be Sudelan’s roommate, if you don’t mind him bunking with a villain!))
((Ok. Should Sudelan figure out that he’s evil, but ignore it, since Adrian acts perfectly normally?))
((Sure. And normally for now…
))
((OK, I’m officially lost. Last I checked I was talking to Erin (SR’s character) at dinner but now I’m kinda confused…are we still talking? Maybe I missed a post or something. Also, I need some roomies! Any groups of people who are already together (I’m in my second year) or a person who would want to “take” me in? Or maybe I could just pretend to be rooming with a bunch of “anonymous” Aphrodite girls to avoid confusion…)
((I’m rather confused too…maybe someone could give a summary?))
((A summary would be great…preferably one that includes all the roommates. I would go back and try to write one if I had more time, but I’ll have to do that later or someone else can go ahead.))
((Erm, if it’s OK with bella the aviatrix, maybe Clee can room with Ingrid and Meilin if there can be three per room. Ingrid would be fine with that (she almost likes Clee in a pitying sort of way. She thinks Clee needs to relax and not be so boy-crazy.) but I don’t know about Meilin.))
((123 – it’s fine with me, but only as long as there’s not another character out there who also needs a roommate. But isn’t Clee a year above us? If that’s true would it still make sense for her to room with us first years?))
((I think it’s now after dinner, and everyone is finding a roommate so they can go back to their rooms I guess? Unless there’s something we have to do after dinner?))
((I suppose it would make sense to have free time after dinner.))
After chatting with Adonia and Alexandria, Ingrid bade them and her roommate goodnight. As she left the hall, she passed the Old Guy, who was pushing a janitor’s cart down the hallway. She wondered briefly how old he was, but then was distracted by the sight of the sunset on the ocean. The sun was a huge, red, burning ball, and the sky was gold and pink with the silhouettes of purple clouds against it. The view was breath-taking. She quickly made her way down to the beach and sat in the sand, her feet just touching the water. It had been one hectic, confusing, bizarre day.
“Hey there.”
For the second time, she yelped and scrambled back from the water. There was a boy in the water. He skin was very tan, like hers, and he had light brown hair and silvery blue eyes.
“Sorry. I didn’t mean to scare you. I’m Corrance.”
“I’m Ingrid. Do you go to Antideluvian Academy too?”
“Oh, so it’s a school! My friend Karlos thought it was a temple. No, I don’t go there.” He splashed the water with his tail. He was a merman. Ingrid had to laugh.
“I shouldn’t be surprised that merpeople exist, after today, but…”
“You’re taking it better than most people. When they see us, they scream, try to kill us, or beg us to take them to our underwater palaces. I just don’t get it. Anyway, what was wrong with your day?”
“I’ve just been sent to this school for demigods. Everyone there has a god for a parent, and I didn’t even know gods existed! Also, I just found out that Ino is my real mother.”
He looked at her with profound respect and a little fear. “Forgive me, daughter of Ino. I meant no offense.” He started to leave.
“No no! It’s OK. Really, I’m completely new to this mythological stuff. Can you explain it to me tomorrow? My friends will probably wonder where I went.”
“Yes, my lady.”
“Please don’t call me that. It’s Ingrid, OK?”
“Until tomorrow, then, Ingrid.”
((For this story, merpeople can’t come out of the water (so no hordes of warriors appearing when we need them in a totally deus ex machina move). There will be a sort of social class system, which will be explained later. If anyone has serious objections to having merpeople in the story, please voice them now.))
((Need people to PP Felina and Sidra.
Sidra’s basically an alluring, crazy, un-socially-inclined half-kitsune. She is also very much the trickster.
Felina, on the other hand, is a sarcastic, athletic, mysterious, quiet person.))
(( Eep! *is lost already*))
((Isn’t my roommate already Tala? If that’s still okay with you, Koppar.))
((Ingrid and Meilin – I’m fine rooming with you. The whole year thing is a little confusing, but for the sake of minimizing any conflicts, let’s just say I’m with you guys.))
((onomatopoeia, where are you?))
As I walked into our room, I noticed there were now three beds inside instead of the previous two, and the room seemed to be bigger as well. I backed up and checked the sign on the door again. 317. This had to be our room. Plus, my key could open it. Puzzled, I walked past the first two beds and sat down onto the furthest bed, where all my stuff had been moved to.
A few minutes later, Ingrid walked into the room, dripping water all over the carpet.
‘Huh?’
I laughed. ‘I was surprised too.’
Ingrid shrugged, and went into the bathroom to take a shower. I quickly changed into my pyjamas, and was just doing up the last button when I heard a knock on the door.
I opened it, and a tall girl with long, brown hair stood there. She must have noticed my surprised look, as she quickly said, ‘I’m Clee Harper. I was told this was my room at the reception.’
Still shocked, I opened the door wider to let her in, and that’s when Ingrid walked out of bathroom.
‘I don’t mean to be disrespectful, but who are you and what are you doing here?’
Clee looked slightly offended and said again, ‘I’m Clee Harper. I was told this was my room at the reception.’
I glanced at Ingrid, and we both shrugged. ‘I guess that explains the extra bed, then,’ I said, laughing.
‘If you don’t mind,’ Clee said haughtily, pushing her way between us, a large suitcase dragging behind her and making dents in the carpet.
I snapped my fingers and immediately the suitcase was lifted up a few feet in the air as a small cloud appeared right under it. Surprised at the sudden weightlessness, Clee stopped and the suitcase bumped into the back of her legs. Looking annoyed, she turned around and gasped when she saw the levitated luggage.
Ingrid and I were laughing too hard, but I managed an apologetic smile in Clee’s direction. ‘Sorry…about that…’ I gasped, ‘I thought…you might want…a little…help.’
I waited for the expected glare. But instead, Clee started laughing as well.
I was shocked, but laughed along with her and soon we managed to fit her suitcase in between her bed and the wall.
‘Thanks,’ Clee said, still wheezing a bit. ‘How do you do that?’
‘What, this?’ I asked innocently, at the same time snapping my fingers so another cloud appeared, this time directly under Clee, lifting her up suddenly and causing her to flop back onto the bed.
I snapped my fingers again and the cloud vanished.
I grinned. ‘Looks like we’re going to have some fun times together, eh?’
I smiled gratefully at Ingrid. For some reason Chiron had decided that a good way to get the newbies familiar with the school was to pair some of us up. ((OK, guys. I’m not saying that we all have to rearrange our rooms/room mates. This is just an explanation for why I’m rooming with two first year students.)) To tell you the truth, I had no interest in “helping out the newest members of our community” or whatever. I just wanted to see if the girls had a cute wardrobe. After discovering that Meilin, one of my new room mates, could levitate people, I was already set. Unusual powers around the school wasn’t unusual to me, I saw it all the time. But levitation was definitely one of the cooler powers around. But enough of the powers, I thought, as I eyed the girls up and down.
Meilin had glossy black hair and a pretty, fair face. Definitely a girl worthy of Aphrodite, I found myself musing. And Ingrid definitely wasn’t bad either…although pretty small, she had pretty sun streaked brunette hair which definitely earned her some bonus points. Overall, not a bad combo. I just couldn’t wait to start showing them all the hot guys at the school.
((Clee is too late. Ingrid already has Corrance.
))
((Meilin is still single though… :)))
((Who’s Corrance? Is he actually someone on here or an “imaginary” person you’re doing? Ha ha, at least I still have Meilin. *evil laugh* This is going to be fun. Clee looooves matchmaking.))
((Corrance is a merman (whom? who?) Ingrid met. See post 126.))
((“It’s whom when it’s the object of a sentence, then who when it’s the subject.”
“That sounds right.”
“Well, it sounds right, but is it?”
-The Office (I couldn’t resist )))
((Oh….no wonder the name sounded so familiar, I knew I had read it somewhere but I just couldn’t place it.))
((I’m assuming Tala is still my roommate. If not, the extra bed is up for grabs. Also, if anyone needs a roomie. I’m open.))
I walked back to my room with a full tummy and sleepy eyes. I went in and flopped down on my bed. Dethaea climed up next to me and the bed nearly broke. “Down girl, down.” I said. Dethaea whined and jumped down on the floor as Tala came in. “Whoa!” she said, narrowly avoiding tripping. Dethaea barked and licked Tala till she was covered in drool. Tala laughed, “I guess I’ll go take a shower, then.”
“Whatever,” I grunted. I was too sleepy to care.
((Can Adonia jump in with you and Tala? I need a room for her, and I think a daughter of Demeter would have an…. Interesting… time in with two death-ish demigods.))
((Sounds like fun….*evil laughter* She grows flowers and I kill them. Plus, there’s the whole, “my dad kidnapped your moms goddess daughter,” thing. *more evil laughter*))
I woke up suddenly and looked at my watch. I had slept for about 10 minutes. There was a knock at the door and Dethaea “said” “Yay! New chew toy!”
“No, down girl. Not a chew toy.”
“Not even a little?”
“No.” I said firmly. I opened the door. A pretty girl was standing in the doorway, looking confused. “Um, is this room 301?”
“Yeah,” I said. “Why?”
“I guess I’m rooming with you, then.”
“But I already have a roommate.”
“Well, there’s room for one more, I think.”
I turned around “No there isn-” There was another bed. How did I miss that? The girl swept past me and put her stuff down on the new bed. “By the way, I’m Adonia. Demeter is my mom.” Adonia looked me up and down. “Hades?” she said. This girl had a good eye. “Yep.” I said, knowing all too well the story of Persephone and Hades. Just then, Tala came out of the bathroom. She looked from the extra bed to Adonia and back to the bed. “I’m taking another shower,” she said and went back in the bathroom. “That was Tala.” I said. ” She’s a daughter of Anubis.” I kind of felt sorry for Adonia. Here was a daughter of the goddess of springtime, rooming with two daughters of gods of death. Then again, this might be fun.
SFTDP (( Arrgh!! I did it again. I did a replyed story post. I promise it won’t happen again. Really.))
Dinner finished, I walked back to my rooms, and found Chiron trotting beside me.
“You saw the new first-years, Steven?” He asked.
“Yes, a lot of variety. Very large Egyptian and Norse concentrations, and more Far Eastern children than I’d expected. It’ll be enlightening to see what sort of powers they have tomorrow.” I responded, walking on. Olympus did not stand alone, despite what some of the school’s Management seemed to think…
((LBK in 134- Exactly. All sorts of fun. Adonia will be thrilled… Mwhahaha.
By the way, I think Koppar described her character as ‘polite’, so I think she wouldn’t just walk out of the room rather then facing a new person. Thus my edited version of that scene.
Also, because I’m nitpicking, Demeter is the goddess of the harvest. Persephone is goddess of springtime, I think.))
After supper, Adonia and Alexandria set off for the front desk, to see what room they were in. They walked up to the front desk, and asked the lady at the front desk.
“What are your names?”
“Adonia and Alexandria Day.”
“Ah. Miss Adonia, you’re in room 301. Miss Alexandria, you’re in room 212.”
“We’re not together?”
“That’s what I said. Do I need to say it again? The answer is no. Move.”
They moved, somewhat mechanically.
“We aren’t together.” Adonia repeated, her eyes wide. They had always shared a room, before this. They were used to being able to stay up late, laughing and talking. They both shivered simultaneously. They were about to laugh at their shared reactions, but they shivered again instead. The unknown was scary.
“Well, we’ll see each other during the daytime.” Adonia pointed out.
“Yes. We better.” Alexandria agreed.
They parted ways when the hallway split, one way leading to the 200 wing, and the other to the 300s.
Adonia:
I found 301 pretty quickly. How hard could it be, anyway? Three-Oh-One. Not exactly rocket surgery. I knocked, and the door was answered.
“Um, is this room 301?†I asked the girl who had answered.
“Yeah. Why?”
“I guess I’m rooming with you, then.”
“But I already have a roommate.â€
“Well, there’s room for one more, I think.†My voice turned slightly frosty. It probably wasn’t obvious. My voice never got very frosty. The other girl started to deny it, turning around. She cut herself off midway, when she finished turning around. I swept past her and settled my bags on the third bed. “By the way, I’m Adonia. Demeter is my mom.â€
I turned around and looked at the astonishingly rude girl. “Hades?”
“Yep.”
I rolled my eyes. Figured. I didn’t know too much about mythology, besides what I’d read on the way here in the book Mom gave me, but I knew what Hades was the god of.
Another girl walked out of the bathroom, dripping, and in pajamas. She looked around, at me and my bed. “Um. Hello.”
“This is Tala. She’s a daughter of Anubis.”
“Hi. I’m Adonia. Daughter of Demeter.”
I wasn’t quite sure what Anubis was a god of, but I really didn’t want to know. Why couldn’t I have just roomed with Alexandria?
Alexandria:
I made my way to room 212. There wasn’t anybody in the room yet, so I selected a bed and dropped my things on it. I idly wondered who I would room with for a moment. Then I sat up, and scooped up my pajamas. Might as well change while I was waiting.
((Oh. I was going for, “surprised and needs to think some more.” Sorry, Koppar!))
((If anyone needs roommates, you can join Fatima and Omorose in Room 315. I’m not sure where Peary is, so i need someone to talk to!))
((Side note–Ingrid always wears a scarf of the light, loose, floaty type that one sees these days. This will come in handy if someone is in danger of drowning.))
))
((Why hasn’t anyone brought in vampires yet? I’m just a bit surprised.
((Because they wouldn’t fit all that well.))
((I’m surprised that there are no children of Kokopelli at the Antediluvian Academy so far.))
((Did we ever even decide that the Muses were gods? I think some people suggested that they were already sort of demigods, so it wouldn’t make sense. Plus, I can’t imagine Kokopelli as a “responsible parent”, can you? :D))
((Yeah, that makes sense. That they’re already sort of demigods, I mean.))
(())
((I think we decided the Old Muses were gods, hence Korlin being the son of Urania.))
((No, I’m fairly sure they were actual gods. The original ones, anyway. I know their mother was a goddess, but I can’t prove their father was a god. I seem to remember their father was Zeus, but I could easily be wrong about that. I wrote a post about this elsewhere… Post 20.2, actually.))
((Yah, I think their father was Zeus.))
((For the record, Kokopelli also existed at least hundreds and possibly thousands of years before Muse.))
((Oh, yeah, I remember reading about him. Would that still make him a go..go.. oh, I can’t even begin to think of Kokopelli as a ..mmf! That’s just too weird!!!!))
((Yes, but I cannot see Kokopelli as a father. I really cannot.))
((Yes. That would just be too weird.))
((Kokopelli had a reputation as a womanizer, to be fair.))
((If you look at mythology, there really aren’t many models of responsible parents by our standards — especially in the fatherhood department — so Kokopelli wouldn’t be any different in that respect.))
((AAAUGH! SO…MANY…POSTS…))
Fatima watched Omorose run away with horror. Did she do something wrong? She finished up with dinner, said goodbye, and headed back towards room 315. As she was about to open the door, she heard the clink of metal hit the floor. She scanned the hallways, eyes narrowed, but the source of the clink wasnt to be seen. She laughed to herself, and opened the door.
“Omorose? You in here?”
((Aggie, you can be in the room, or you don’t have to…your choice))
((Yay!))
Omrose had been searching the room for a phone, trying to call her parents. She desperately needed the truth, or for someone to tell her that it was all a dream. Suddenly, the door opened and Fatima peered in.
“Omorose? You in here?”
“Yeah,” she said, quickly getting up. “I’m s-sorry for running out like that…” She felt like she was going to cry and sat down on the bed. Fatima sat next to her.
“What’s wrong?” her friend asked. Omorose let everything out.
“This is just so strange to me…I always knew I wasn’t my parent’s real child, but I never thought, or even imagined…” She wiped her eyes on her arm. “I’m just so confused. I don’t even know who my real mother is, and not knowing that she was a god makes it so much harder. I don’t know what to believe anymore.”
“I know how you feel,” Fatima said, patting her shoulder. “I didn’t know who my dad was for a long time, either. It’s strange to know who they are at first, but you’ll embrace the idea soon.”
“Thanks, Fatima,” said Omorose, smiling a bit. “I feel a little better now.”
“Hey!” said Fatima getting to her feet. “I bet we can find out who your real parents are. I heard one of the third-years talking about a hall of records…”
((I hope this is okay with you peary! Sorry, I’m PP-ing again. >.<
))
((Want to bump into me in the hallway?))
((Sure thing! I’ll try to write it if I have more time, otherwise you can just go ahead.
))
((You can go first, I kind of like having something to “Play off of”.))
((Umm, I’m going to just jump in where I/Errata left off.))
I watched the new girl, Adonia, scan the room. Up until now, Dethaea had lain on my bed like a giant stuffed animal. She picked the wrong moment to suddenly spring to life. As Adonia was trying to see if Dethaea was stuffed or not, Dethaea leapt up, pinned Adonia to the floor, and gave her a big, slobbery bath. “Eek! Help!!” she cried. “Down! NOW!” I called to Dethaea. She reluctantly obeyed, looking from me to Adonia and saying, “But she’s smells funny…” Adonia got up and looked at me questionably. “That’s Dethaea, my hellhound. She still needs some training, though…”
“Oh, that’s okay. She’s kind of cute!”
“Why does everyone think that?!” I wondered, “Dethaea is a hellhound for crying out loud.” Adonia went into the bathroom to dry off. I changed into my pajamas while she was in there and got under the covers. Dethaea was learning quickly, and she obediently laid down on the floor. “Adonia seems nice,” Tala said. “She’s okay, I guess…” I answered.
“Oh, come on!” Tala said, propping herself up on her elbows. “Why are you like this? Why don’t you like making friends?”
I thanked God-no, the gods, the gods, that the bathroom door was soundproof and said, “I’m kind of afraid that, once people know who I am, they won’t like me anymore.” My lip was trembling and I turned toward the wall to hid my tears. Truth was, my mother had always critisized me and called me strange and worthless. I was so afraid of being different. But, I reminded myself, this school is for kids like me. That made me feel a little better, and I turned out my light. I was determined to sleep well tonight.
((Errata, I hope you don’t mind that I PPd Adonia a little. :)))
After I finished dinner, I walked back up to my room. There was a girl in pajamas sitting on her bed.
“Hi,” I said, “I’m Maya, and I guess I’m your roommate.” I looked away after that, feeling shy.
“I’m Alexandria,” the girl said, smiling.
((Do more people want to go back to their rooms first (after dinner), or can we move on to the next day (breakfast, maybe?) I don’t want to sound impatient, and it’s honestly fine if a few people want to stay on the current day for a while longer, but I was just wondering. Quite a few people have already written posts about going back to their rooms after dinner, so…))
Alexandria:
I was sitting on my bed reading the book Mom had given me about myths, when there was a soft knock on the door and it opened. I looked up. A girl had come in, and she looked around.
“Hi, I’m Maya and I guess I’m your roommate.” she said shyly.
“I’m Alexandria.” I smiled back. A short pause. I motioned to the bed on the other side of the room. “That’s yours. Is that all right? I don’t care much, I can move.”
((I’m going to hold off on posting until breakfast.))
“Yeah, that’s fine,” I said, nodding, and moved up my bag from the wall to my bed. I unloaded the stuff I needed, and went to change into my pajamas. When I got back, I picked up the Redwall book I was reading, and sat back to enjoy more of the story.
((I could room with Kenji, except I’m the wrong god. I think that maybe students should only have to room with just their mythology for the first year. In my opinion, the Antediluvian Academy encourages mixing, and would only make the first years do it because they’re just getting used to the idea. Anyone agree?))
((Yeah, that’s a good idea. Besides, I already brought up the idea that Chiron might have announced that some of the students who have already been at the school for a year or so might be mixing with the first years to get a better feel for the academy, and I’m not the same mythology as Meilin either and we’re rooming. I’m pretty lax about the room mates, but if there’s anybody who objects I’m all ears.))
((That sounds good.
Slightly unrelated- I’m wearing a maroon turtleneck today, which is what I always pictured Erin wearing, so at random points today I’ve been feeling like an annoying know-it-all, and then I realize it’s my turtleneck that’s doing it. :D))
((I know what you mean. I wore a white dress and braids today because we had a special out-of-uniform dress code…and I’ve been whistling the Tutenstein theme song for about seven hours. So yeah.
))
((Turtlenecks and intelligence kind of go together. Think of Carl Sagan and Velma Dinkley.))
((Oh, I’m wearing a turtleneck right now, as it happens.))
((As was I when I wrote that post.))
Hello, Chiron, Alexandria, Maya! Sarius here to do your bidding! I live in that cage on the weathervane, if you ever need to find me.
(( Am I doing this right? ))
((It’s okay if you don’t want to, but can we move on to breakfast? I know we should be going slow, but please can we move on to breakfast?? Please??))
((147- I dislike that idea. I think most people are settled in, possibly with a demigod of a different culture. Both of my characters are. I think it’d be much better if we just left it as is.
149- It’s okay with me if we move on.))
((I only added on that end part because it seemed like people wanted everyone to room with the same mythology. I personally have no problem with you rooming with a mix.))
((Okay, is it okay if I wake up before all of you? If not, feel free to rewrite this post. 147-I also dislike that idea, just because it would be more fun to mix with other parentages))
I stretched, yawned, looked at my watch. 5:45. “Wow,” I thought, “I guess I don’t need much sleep.” “Dethaea was still snoozing, so I crept out and silently closed the door behind me. I made my way to the mess hall and sat down. “Pancakes with syrup and Silk Nog.” I thought. As I dug in, there was a minor earthquake, very, very small, but enough to get my attention. I went over to the fire and scraped the syrupiest part of my pancakes in. The earthquake subsided. I was just sitting down to eat when I heard the door open.
((Any of you can jump in here!))
((Okay, I’ll go! It’s still night when i start and then becomes morning as it goes along.
))
Fatima and Omorose walked quickly among the hallways of the school, twisting and turning through the dark hallway. It didn’t take them long to figure out that they were lost.
“Oh, no,”Omorose said, panic making her voice shake. “How are we ever going to get there now?”
“I can help you,” a voice replied. A man stepped out of the dark shadows from the corridor. Both Fatima and Omorose screamed and jumped back. but he didn’t appear very scary.
The man was tall, with curly blond hair and bright eyes that sparkled like the midnight sky. He carried a flashlight in his hand.He smiled down at them kindly. “There’s no need to be scared,” he said, offering them a hand. “My name’s Mr. Korlin. I’m a teacher.”
“Whew,” said Fatima. “I was scared there for a minute.”
“So,” he said, leaning down and looking the girls in the eyes, “what are two first-years doing wandering around the corridors this late?”
“Please, sir, we’ve been wandering for a long time. We’re looking for the library, or a hall of records,” said Omorose.
“She’s trying to find out who her parents are,” Fatima said, smiling knowingly.
“Ah, yes,” the teacher said, looking at Omorose as though her face showed all of the answers, but he said nothing. “I’ve seen many students looking for the same thing. Follow me,” and he lit his flashlight again, beckoning for them to follow.
They did, and for a while it seemed like they were going a great distance and yet nowhere at all. Finally, they reached a set of large double doors that gleamed bright gold in the dazzling beam of light being shined on them. Mr. Korlin reached out a hand, and with the help of the two girls, they opened the doors.
Inside, there were shelves and shelves of books, books and scrolls and papers as far as the eye could see. The shelves were taller than the sky, or so it seemed, and the ceiling was painted like the midnight sky, glistening and sparkling with stars and constellations that Omorose had never dreamed she could see. The books themselves were magnificent. Omorose walked forward in wonder, the sound of her footsteps echoing ten times over across the starlit room. She plucked a book from the shelves. It was red leather, bearing the title Ancient Roman Tradition across the front in gold letters. The date inside was from long before Omorose was even thought of. It was a wondrous place.
Once she was done looking, the teacher and Fatima has already gone over to a long desk in the back, where a book larger than Omorose herself sat covered in dust. It was also thicker than her, and had more pages than she had ever seen. Mr. Korlin was flipping through pages. “What did you say your last name was?”
“I…I’m not sure of my real name, but my adopted parents are the Hastings,” she offered.
He flipped for a few more minutes, then sighed. “There’s nobody by the name of Hastings in here, and you look Egyptian, so what’s your first name?”
“Omorose,” she said.
“Omorose…Egyptian…” He turned pages rapidly, with an inhuman speed. “Ah. here we are. Only one by that name…deep in the Demigod History section under O. We’ll have to get it by hand.”
Omorose did not move, and for a second she wondered whether she really wanted to know.
“Well, come on!” said Fatima, smiling and motioning them onward. “We’ve got to work quickly.”
They did, for many hours of the night, searching through the books of O’s in the Egyptian section. for each letter was a book, and for each person a story. Finally, they pulled out a book labeled “Ancient Egyptian Legends”.
“Legends?” Omorose looked as confused as the others. She opened the book and looked into the glossary. ‘Omorose’ was on page 105.
She opened to that page. The tale was called The Last Daughter of Isis. Omorose gazed with wide eyes, and began to read.
Once, when Egypt was a young country and the Gods were thriving among the heavens and the earth, a man emerged from the masses of the Egyptian army by the name of Abasi. Abasi was a strong leader of the Egyptian army, gaining vast land for cultivation and farming. He was treated as royalty, a son to Pharaoh, and he found great favor with the Gods themselves. Isis was deemed his guardian.
Osiris was, in these days, fiercely battling the evil ways of Set the god of destruction and chaos. He was not close to Isis, who was at that time without spawn. She was lonely, and without her husband, the other Gods took scorn upon her and frequently ignored her altogether. It was for this reason that she visited Abasi, as a godlike human, coming down to him in dreams and, finally, in person. She fell in love with him, although still loving Isis. however, it was by Abasi that she conceived a baby girl, and with her magic she was brought to life. Legend has it that she was beautiful and barely aged, and that she withheld almost half of her mother’s power and godlike ability. The child’s name is unknown, but many stories call her Omorose, meaning “beautiful gift”.
Isis feared the wrath of Osiris, for if he knew that she had a daughter, he would destroy the child completely. So she hid Omorose in a chamber beneath the waters of the Nile where Osiris could not tread, and though he knew that she concealed a secret he could not discover what ti was. So, for fifteen years, he waited in secret for the day when she might slip and let loose where she headed each night when Ra flew his boat across the sky turning day to night. It was to be with her lover and her child, he discovered.
When he found out the secret, Osiris flew into a jealous rage. He took the soul of Abasi from his body and hid it so deep into the underworld that the Ba and Ka of the war hero were lost forever to the Underworld. He was quick to find the child too, and threatened to destroy her with his powers of the dead. Isis wept for forty days and nights while Osiris held Omorose captive. Her tears created the Red Sea, and storms washed away many banks of Egyptian soil until Osiris decided that it must come to an end. He bargained with his wife. He told her that he would not destroy the child. Instead, he would seal her for thousands of years in a tomb of his own design, deep within the Valley of Kings, until she awoke with no memory of her past. It is said that Isis kept watch on Omorose even after her son Horus was born, using his all-seeing eye to watch her slumber and ensure her safety for ages to come.
Below the story was a picture, old and weathered. It was of a portrait engraved in stone, of a girl with painted eyes, a heart-shaped face and black braids with the moon disc and horns on her head.
“Wow,” said Fatima. “That looks just like you.”
“Yeah,” said Omorose, her eyes welling up again. “It does.”
I’m sending in two pictures of Omorose now, and one of them is the one from the book. The other is of her and the lotus flower.
I drew them in about 15 minutes each, though, and they’re not one bit amazing.
Did you get them yet? *hopes*
agrrrfishi: We have your pictures but haven’t had a chance to post them yet.
Yay! Thanks!
“Well, now, that seems to fit. Feeling alright?” I asked, seeing Omorose’s eyes welling up.
((OK, Meilin and Ingrid is it ok if I wake up now too? Let’s just say we’ve already gotten settled into our beds. Clee wants to get up early so that she can get a head start on her makeup. :D))
I sat up slowly, shooting a quick glance at Meilin and Ingrid to make sure that they were still sleeping. I quickly scampered into the bathroom and began to put on makeup, masking the sleep and tiredness out of my eyes. After smearing on lip gloss, eyeliner, mascara, and three layers of foundation I found myself ready to go. I couldn’t risk Meilin and Ingrid seeing me in such a state without make up on, I thought with a sigh. Make up was a must. After getting dressed into the perfect combination of clothes I had especially picked out (Red skirt, fashionable white tee, and short black jacket with a pretty heart shaped necklace and matching earrings.) I decided to head out the door.
“Yeah, I guess,” said Omorose, wiping her eyes. “I guess I just didn’t want this to be real. I feel betrayed.” She looked down to the ground. “Why am I such a crybaby? I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay,” said Fatima. “Let’s go get changed.”
“I’ll lead you back, if you want,” Mr. Korlin offered.
“That would be nice. Thank you for all of your help,” Omorose said.
“It was no problem,” he replied. Omorose rather liked him a lot.
Just before she left, while the others weren’t looking, Omorose tore the story and the picture from the book and slid them into her pocket.
The three of them set back down the hallway and across the bridge over the lake, which gleamed a pale orange in the sunrise. It was a beautiful day. Fatima and Omorose quickly reached their room, and waved good-by to Mr. Korlin, who smiled and waved back once, then headed away down the hall. The two girls opened the door to their room.
“I can change in the bathroom,” offered Omorose. She threw on a simple white dress, and smudged a line of black eyeliner over her eyelids and made a small point at the corner of her eye. Then, she did up her braids and walked out again.
“I like your dress,” said Fatima.
“Thank you, replied Omorose happily. “I like your outfit.”
“Should we go down to the breakfast hall?” she asked.
“Sure,” replied Omorose. They walked out of the door, but just before she left, Omorose tucked the lotus flower behind her ear. She would need it for good luck, for she didn’t know what to expect on her second day here. What more surprises could there be?
(Can I get up now?)
A beam of sunlight filtered through a gap in the curtains and shined directly onto my face. I opened my eyes a crack and was immediately blinded by the glaring sunlight. Squinting heavily, I rolled out of bed and fell onto the floor. I dragged myself up from the carpet and walked, tripping, into the bathroom. I splashed cold water onto my face and felt more refreshed. While I was in the bathroom, I reached for my brush and brushed my hair, feeling the tangles disappear. I didn’t bother with any make-up – I didn’t care for the stuff much.
I walked back outside with my pyjamas still on and rummaged through the closet until I found my favourite outfit. I threw on a pair of white jeans, matching the white tank top I wore under a loose, slightly translucent dark blue plaid shirt with the sleeves rolled up a little, buttoned only at the bottom. The shirt matched the dark blue flats I decided to wear. Casting one last look at the sleeping Ingrid – Clee had already left – I threw open the door and stepped out into the corridor. Not many people were up this early, and I saw only a few students roaming the halls as I walked down to the breakfast hall.
((So, Omorose and Fatima come in? Alright.))
“Oh, hi,” Omorose and Fatima said. “Sorry we startled you.” Omorose looked like she’d been crying a little.
“I like your outfit, Omorose,” I said, ignoring her red eyes. “You too, Fatima. I just started eating. Want to sit together?”
“Sure,” they said and slid in next to me. I wanted to ask why Omorose had been crying, but I didn’t. I could hear Tala in my head, saying, “It wouldn’t be polite. It wouldn’t be polite. It wouldn’t be polite,” over and over again. (()) I turned back to my pancakes.
((Sorry, that’s all I can think of right now.))
Fatima sat down with Omorose and Halena at the table, and dug into her plate of pancakes. She peered over at Omorose and smiled.
“Isis, huh,” she said. “Funny, my parent is Horus!” Fatima chuckled into her milk.
Omorose laughed, a nice, pleasant sound. Fatima turned towards Halena and asked, “Hey, Halena, you know when classes are?”
((Hmm. when are classes?))
((Well, during the day, I suppose. But we should decide what they are.))
“Hmm. Now that you bring it up, no. I wonder when they’ll tell us.”
“Maybe we can ask Dr. Korlin?” Omorose said. “He helped me find out who my parents were.”
“That’s a good idea,” I said. “But let’s finish breakfast first.”
I had only had time to change my clothes before breakfast, but I didn’t feel tired, not yet. I always seemed to have more energy at night than in the day, probably because of my mother.
The girls from the previous night were eating at a student table, seemingly happy ask they spoke with their friends. Maybe I would see them in class later in the day.
(( Yes, classes! There should definitely be History of the Pantheons in there, perhaps Egyptian/Norse/Greek mythology, the class corresponding to the parent of the demigod. There should also be gym class of some sort. Would that be where we exercised our “godlike” strengths?))
Omorose ate her pancakes happily with Fatima and Halena. “So, if your dad is Horus, Isis’ son, then we would be half-siblings. And you would be my half- niece.” She laughed out loud. It was still strange to think about things this way. She figured, however, that if this were a dream, she would be able to fly or shoot fire out of her nostrils, or something. Things wouldn’t seem so normal if she were sleeping. She could not, however, get over the fact that might be 5,000 years old. It was too strange.
“So, who is your parent?” Fatima asked Halena, who looked down.
“Hades,” she replied glumly.
“Oh,” said Fatima. She got quiet.
“Well, I don’t mind,” said Omorose, smiling politely. The dead were none of her worries.
Suddenly, the dark-haired boy from the other day came walking into the hall. Adrian was as handsome as ever, walking swiftly, and glancing lazily around the room. Omorose couldn’t help staring, just a bit. She felt the urge to go talk to him. Somehow, she felt connected to him. He suddenly turned his head and gave her a piercing stare. His eyes were a strange amber, she noticed, and then flushed bright red. She had been staring.
He sat down at the far end of the table, and began picking at his food.
“Do you like him?” asked Fatima excitedly, poking her shoulder.
“I don’t even know him,” she replied.
((So wait, everyone’s supposed to have slept already? Okay… long post ahead. Oh, and SR, you can room with Kenji if you like. I don’t mind. In fact, I’ll assume you are, so all my characters can meet all my other ones…. XD))
IKORA
After dinner, Vicky and I went up to our room. There was a stony silence for about five minutes, then Vicky said, “I’m going to shower.”
“Fine, hog it for an hour, why don’t you,” I replied, secretly pleased: this’d give me an opportunity to set up an even more elaborate cheat on the pack of (already stacked) cards I’d brought.
Unfortunately, Vicky really did take an hour-long shower, so in the meantime, I went over to Cleo’s room to see how she was doing. On the way I bumped into that kid what’shisface–Eric? Aaron? Erin, that was it. The obnoxious one, not that that was a bad thing.
“Watch where you’re going!” he said at me. He was the kind of kid who never said anything to someone. “Do you know how many people break their limbs because of people bumping into them?”
Cutting him off quickly, I reply, “No, but I’m sure it’s not many. Have you seen Cleo?”
“Clee, yes. Cleo…. I don’t think so. She’s a first-year, right? Cat ears, daughter of Bastet?”
“Yeah, that’s her. Cleopatra Drake. I’m Ikora Sorensen, by the way. Daughter of Loki, not that he cares about me.”
“Yes, I know all that. I’m Erin Schneider. Son of Melpomene, who does seem to care about me ’cause she sent me here.”
“You do like to depress people, don’t you? That’s okay, I’m bored. Were you on your way to your room?”
“You do like to keep talking and never shut up, don’t you? That’s okay, I never shut up either. Yes, of course. Where else would I be going?”
“…someone else’s room?”
“Well, true.”
“I seem to have forgotten Cleo’s room number.” Not true, of course, but I want to keep this kid talking. I could totally use him for something, but what?
“You think I’m that much of a stalker? I–”
“Okay, okay!” I didn’t want to get him started on talking about stalkers. That could take all night. “I remember it now, it’s right here. 302. Bye!” I dashed into the room, only to find that Cleo…. wasn’t there? Huh, that was weird. Neither was her roommate, but it looked like they’d both unpacked… maybe they were outside? I found an elevator without too much trouble and went down to the bottom floor. As an afterthought, I stuck the other one between floors. If I was lucky, whoever was on it would be stuck with Erin. I grinned to myself. This was fun.
CLEO
Caili and I unpacked and went down to dinner, which seemed to be mostly over by the time we got there. I couldn’t find Ikora–the only people who still seemed to be there were two Japanese-looking girls deep in conversation.
“Sidra! Hi!” Caili said. “I didn’t know you were still out here! Andri, this is Sidra, my half-sister. Sidra, this is Cleo-whom I call Andri for no apparent reason-so who’s with you?”
“Hey, Felina, Cleo. This is Miyuki Ayazawa.”
“Yuki-onna?” Caili asked.
“Yeah,” Miyuki replied. “Hey, do you guys know who that guy over there was who just went in? Black hair, black eyes, tall, really hot?”
“Nope, no idea. Is he a shinigami kid? He had a suspicious-looking notebook on him,” Caili said.
“Maybe,” said Sidra. “Actually, more like a ‘probably.'”
“What’s a shinigami?” asked clueless me.
“Japanese death god,” Miyuki said. “I’m the daughter of a snow goddess, by the way.”
“Cool!” I said. “I’m a daughter of Bastet, the Egyptian goddess of cats. Can I call you Mimi, by the way? Sorry, I come up with cute nicknames for everyone. Except Ikora, ’cause there’s really nothing you can do with her name, and her parents forgot to give her a middle name.”
“PLEASE do not call me Si-si, or anything else weird,” Sidra said.
“Nope, you’re Sidra. Unless you tell me your middle name…”
“It’s Kitsune,” she sighed, rolling her eyes.
“Kit, then.” I grinned at her. This was the first time I’d made friends without having a hat on constantly.
“Oh, hey, look, Lin! You and Cleo both have Bastet’s symbol! She’s claiming you!” said Sidra.
“Claiming?” This from Mimi.
“Oh, right, you wouldn’t have had to be claimed-you live with both your parents. Lucky,” said Sidra. “It’s when a god or goddess officially claims someone as their child.”
“Oh. Well, I’m gonna go in–Sidra’s my roommate anyway,” said Mimi, yawning. “See you in the morning!”
“I want to go exploring,” I replied. “‘night, Mimi! ‘night, Kit! Caili, you coming?”
“Of course.”
MIYUKI
Sidra and I walk inside one of the buildings, still talking, and climb the stairs… and decide we’ve got no idea where we are, and would rather find a teacher to help us find our room. We find an elevator and get into it–it’s quicker than stairs, right?
As the door is about to close, another kid walks in. He looks older–a second-year, maybe? Or a third-year?
The first thing he says is “Do you know how many people have become trapped in elevators during fires? You’d better be careful with your powers.”
“I’ve got snow powers, not fire powers,” I say.
“I was talking to her,” he says back, pointing at Sidra.
“I–” Sidra starts to say, when the elevator grinds to a stop.
“See?”
I groan. It’s going to be a looooong night.
IKORA
I got out of the elevator and walked toward the sound of crashing that I could hear in the bushes. Sure enough, Cleo was stuck. Trust her to get into a mess within the first five minutes of anything…. at least she could fight her way out, right?
“Cleoooo!” I called. Two pairs of cat ears suddenly poked up from the bush–one belonging to an actual cat, albeit a large one with silver-streaked fur, one belonging to the half-cat that was Cleo.
“Hi!” She unstuck herself with an audible ripping noise. “Caili and I decided to go exploring. It backfired.”
“I can see that. Can we go in now? I want to kick Vicky’s butt at poker.”
“Okay. Caili, you might want to turn back now.”
“Yeah, yeah,” the cat replied, and morphed into a girl with very similar hair and, I could see now, two different-colored eyes. “I’m back, and I’ve had quite enough adventuring for one night. Let’s go to bed. I’m Felina Teris, by the way,” she said, inclining her head towards me.
“Ikora Sorensen, nicetomeetyoulet’sgo.” After all, if I left those people in the elevator with Erin for much longer, they’d probably go insane…. and I didn’t want that, now did I?
CLEO
Ikora hustled us into the darkened building. Luckily Caili and I had cat eyes, so we could find the elevator easily. When we got to the top floor, Mimi, Kit and another kid I didn’t know got out of the other one, arguing at the top of their voices.
“Oh, did the elevator get stuck?” asked Ikora innocently.
“You did something, didn’t you?” I hissed at her, snickering.
“Yup.” Then, louder, “Hi, Erin! Who’re they?”
“Oh, this is Mimi and Kit–whoops, I mean Miyuki and Sidra. We met before. So he’s Erin, then?”
“Yeah, he is.”
“They’re too busy arguing to answer themselves,” Caili remarks. “I wonder how long they were stuck fo–waaaaait, how did you know they were stuck, Ikora?”
“It’s a secret,” she says, and winks, heading off in the direction of her room. Mine’s really close to the elevators, so I head that way. Caili stays behind to get Kit’s attention.
MIYUKI
That kid drives me NUTS. He’s got to be THE most obnoxious person I’ve ever met–he never shuts up about all this horrible stuff that could happen, and–
“SIDRA TERIS!” It’s Felina.
“Huh? What?” Sidra replies.
“Your room’s right there.”
“Oh,” Sidra and I both say at the same time, and walk in without a second glance at Erin-the-obnoxious.
IKORA
The poker game went late into the night. It seemed like it was going to be a tie–Vicky’s obviously got strong powers.
Then the deck exploded.
I think we both fell asleep pretty soon after that.
The next thing I knew, I was being shaken awake by some teacher and dragged down to breakfast. I was late, of course, but that’s how I always am….
((WOAH, major fast moderation!))
((I think I’m going to introduce James now. He’s a second-year, for reference.
))
The light shone through James Evynder’s windows as the morning of the first day of classes dawned over campus. James woke up, stretching his gangly arms and blinking a pair of sea-green eyes. He hopped out of bed and pulled on some clothes. He brushed his brown hair and tried to ignore his glowing skin, as always. Then, he gathered up a knapsack and walked out the door.
“Hopefully, this will be a good year,” he muttered to himself.
People were starting to flock down to breakfast. Most of them were first years. A gaggle of girls nearly shoved him into the wall, two of them with cat ears and one who looked like she was made of snow. “Sorry!” yelled one of them.
“Don’t mention it,” he said quietly. As usual, nobody stuck around to talk to him. He was very much alone, more than the usual moper. Not even the really quiet kids bonded together at Antediluvian, so he had learned. Fiona, his mother, had enough on her hand as it was. The only thing Baldyr had ever done for the both of them was the necklace and the school. neither had proved its’ purpose yet.
James walked into the great hall, and sat alone at the end of the table. He didn’t notice that he was sitting across from Adrian until he looked up.
“Hello James,” the latter boy said coolly, not looking up.
“Hi,” returned James.
“Glad to see you’re back for another year. We misfits must stick together, after all,” Adrian grinned. It was not welcoming at all, the smile. It was haunting beyond all description. James suddenly wanted to move. But Adrian looked up as soon as he shifted uncomfortably.
“I’m not here because I want to be…a part of your tricks again,” said James bravely.
“And why, may I ask?” Adrian flipped the pages of his History of Egyptian Magic book without looking at it. His deep eyes pierced James’ own. “You seemed to have a good time teaching the first years last year.”
“I don’t want to…teach them.” James was firm this time.
“It’s not just first years this year, James,” Adrian whispered, leaning across the table. “You know my orders. Set wants more. You would do well to stick with me on this.”
James wavered for a moment, then sighed heavily. “Okay. I’ll do what you want. But I’m not going to cause the pain this year. It’s your turn.”
“Oh, don’t worry.” Adrian laughed in a low, slow breath. “I’ll take care of it.”
((Eep! Somebody help me; I’m already lost! Can someone help me re-introduce Lillian and/or Stephen?))
((We’re all in the great hall having breakfast. You could just walk in and join us, if you like.))
Ingrid woke up and noticed that her roommates were gone. Eep! She scrambled to get dressed and quickly brushed her hair. She put on a summery dress and sandals, and didn’t bother to do anything with her hair or put on makeup. She ran down the stairs, not bothering with the elevator, and sprinted into the mess hall, the doors banging behind her. Everyone turned to stare, except for two boys on the other side of the hall who were deep in conversation. She blushed, walked sedately in, and sat down with Meilin and Clee. Meiling smiled kindly at her, but Clee chuckled.
“You know, I think a little gold shimmer around your eyes would really make them stand out,” Clee said. “Or maybe we could go for a more beachy and natural look. I prefer to be glamorous myself.” Ingrid rolled her eyes. “There are BOYS here,” Clee said, her voice dropping to a whisper. “Are you not aware of that?”
Ingrid shrugged. “I really don’t care.” They’re all landlubbers, she added mentally. “Did they pass out course schedules yet?” Everyone around her shook their heads no.
((Has anyone seen Mas0n? My character is in love with his character, after all.))
ERIN
I look up from my work in the kitchen, and see the mess hall starting to fill. I quickly pull of my apron, and rush in quickly, hoping no-one saw me. As I start to walk through the hall, I get several dirty looks, which I return with much enthusiasm. That vain Aphrodite girl walks in, expecting everyone to look at her. I sit down quickly by the daughter of Hades and two Egyptians, a boy and a girl. The girl looks a bit upset, and it’s not my doing. Looking for clues, I notice some torn pages sticking out of her pockets. They look to be from the Hall of Records.
“Hey,” I say to her.
The Hades girl jumps in. “Leave her alone, you jerk. She’s already upset enough.”
It’s rather annoying, so I retaliate. “Not a good way to make friends, is that. Don’t you care?”
“Care about what?”
“Well, in my first year of this school, there was a daughter of Hades. She was a bit like you, obnoxious, full of it, and she didn’t manage to make friends. Now, daughters of death gods need friends. When this girl had gone for almost a month with nobody to talk to, she disappeared. A few days later, her roomie noticed a bad smell. She started to look around her dorm, and found the Hades girl dead in a closet. The girl had decided that life would be better in her father’s kingdom than on earth. Terrible waste of life, in my opinion, so I’m warning you now that if you don’t change your manners, the same may happen to you.”
The girl looked like she didn’t believe me. “You were eleven years old and a girl committed suicide? Gods, I can’t believe you were that annoying then too!”
This girl didn’t know what she was talking about. “I wasn’t eleven, and the death had nothing to do with me!” I had lost my temper.
“I thought you said it was your first year?”
“I never said that.”
“Whatever. I’m sure you did. Where did you come from, anyway? I can see the front doors perfectly and I didn’t see you come through them.”
“Keep your nose in your own business, and your tongue in your mouth.”
I turned back to the Egyptian.
“Your name’s Omorose?”
“Yes…” she said quietly, and a bit reluctantly.
“Just found out who your parents are?”
“How do you know?”
“It looks like it was a bad one. Do you want to talk about it?”
She gave me a funny look. “No thanks.”
I pointed at the papers in her pocket. “Are those from the Hall of Records?”
She shifted guiltily. “Are you going to get me in trouble?”
“No. You look like you’ve been through a lot.” Then I leaned over and whispered in her ear, “When I found out who mine were, I did the same thing.”
Then I stood up and went to my usual table in the corner. As I made my way, I looked over and saw the Aphrodite girl giggling at me, and my face burned. I pulled the neck of my turtleneck over it.
((LBK, do you think you could start figuring out Erin’s secret?))
((Sure. *laughs evily*))
((Sudelan doesn’t have anything to do. So he’s just going to bump into Erin. He’s also going to be rather sarcastic and annoyed.))
I woke up. Gah. I thought Already a bad start to the day. I wandered over to the mess hall for breakfast. Looking around for Vicky, I saw some guy in a maroon turtleneck. Not seeing Vicky or an empty table, or knowing that the guy in a maroon turtleneck was going to die a horrible and painful death, I decided another friend wouldn’t be a bad thing.
“Hi.” I said and sat down “Mind if I sit here?”
“Why wouldn’t I?” He said. “I’m sitting alone aren’t I? Do you really think I have a need for human companionship?”
“No. But then again, I try to make as few friends as possible here.”
“Why do you do that?”
“Because most of us end up dying horrible and painful deaths.”
“So why did you decide to sit with me?”
“You’re not going to die a horrible and painful death.”
“That’s good news.”
“I guess. I can’t tell what sort of death you’re going to have.”
Erin looked puzzled. “How can you tell what sort of death people might have?”
“I’m Prometheus’s son. My name’s Sudelan.”
“Oh.”
There was an awkward pause in the conversation.
“You do know that when someone tells you their name, you’re supposed to tell them yours.”
“I really don’t care. Anyway, I’m Melpomene’s son. Erin.”
“Now I see why you’re acting slightly depressed. Melopmene is the Muse of Tragedy.”
((What are we going to do about classes? Do we set up our own, like at MA, with some classes mandatory (such as defense/fighting/weapons training and general mythology)? Where would the classes be? Ingrid, Adonia, and other nature-oriented people might want to spend more time outdoors, but others might not.))
((Hmm. LBK, I think you’d better tell me what you think Erin’s secret is. You might be inferring something.))
((Vanillabean- I think that some classes should be mandatory, such as general mythology, but I think that this RPG is leaning slightly less towards fighty and more towards schooly. I think that the school should also offer night courses, (Erin is taking some) for those behind, or for those who learn better at night. (Children of night gods)))
This boy was being rather stupid. “Melpomene is the Muse of Tragedy” he said.
“Oh, that’s who it is?” I asked sarcastically. “Thanks for clearing that up, I thought Melpomene was the goddess of Thanksgiving Turkeys.”
(())
I fumed. Obviously, this kid had no idea what he was talking about. I had plenty of friends. Tala, for instance. Clee, Omorose, Fatima. But smething didn’t make sense. Wait…there was only one other way to the dining hall besides the front door. And that was the kitchen. And you needed a special pass to get in the kitchen. And only, for lack of a better word servants had that pass. Only one way to check. “Oops, I dropped my fork,” I said. When I bent down to get it, I looked in the kid’s pockets. Yup, there it was. I smiled, but remembered that revenge is a dish best served cold. “Does anyone know when they’re going to hand out course schedules?”
((SR-I think that’s a really good idea.))
((Remember, though, keep it a secret.))
((Keep what a secret?))
((His secret. I don’t want everyone knowing that Erin works at the school.
Well, everyone in the school. MBers already know, but maybe Halena could like, blackmail Erin? Unless that’s not the stuff she does. But it seems like she might.))
((That’s not really what she does. Though, she would probably humiliate him. She’s not really a “people” person, as you can probably tell.))
((Hm. Well, I don’t want his secret given away… Maybe Ikora (Rq’s character) could find out instead? She might be the blackmailing type…
Sorry!))
((It’s fine. Maybe I could tell her? Otherwise, how would she know?))
I smiled as I noticed Ingrid walking into the cafeteria, who was wearing a dull sundress and pale sandals. She didn’t look like she had anything on her face but a little gold would look pretty cute…
“You know, I think a little gold shimmer around your eyes would really make you stand out,” I advised. “Or maybe you could go for a more beachy and natural look. I prefer to be more glamorous myself,” I added quickly. Ingrid would probably stand out more with something a little less obvious, I decided. I would have to remember to give her a make up lesson later. Ingrid didn’t seem to like my advise much, however, and rolled her eyes heavily. “There are BOYS here!” I hissed at her. “Are you not aware of that?” But Ingrid didn’t seem to take anything I had just said to heart.
“I don’t care,” She said quickly, although I could have sworn her ears turned a brighter shade of red. “Did they pass out the course schedules yet?” She inquired. Meilin and I shook our heads. I turn and giggle as I see old Erin or whatever his name was moving across the cafeteria awkwardly. He was sooo weird.
“Like anyone’s ever going to marry Erin,” I whispered with a laugh to Meilin and Ingrid. “There’s something seriously wrong with that kid.” Meilin and Ingrid just seemed to shift awkwardly in their seats, obviously not happy with this conversation.
“Um…so what are classes like here?” Meilin asked.
“They’re pretty fun,” I began. “There are a few mandatory classes, like General Myths and stuff like that. But then there are a bunch of electives, and some of them are specifically designed to your parent, like Makeup Tips for Aphrodite girls! But you can still sign up if you want…” I said hopefully, smiling sweetly at the pair. If there was someone who could use some tips, it was them.
Drawings of Omorose from agrrrfishi, who says: “The first is the one from her Legends book, of her wearing the moon disc and horns of Hathor, and levitating an Ankh. The second is of her and her mother’s lotus flower.”
((Wow, great job!))
((
Those are really good!!!))
Thanks!
((GAPA’s, I may send in a picture of Regina as a water serpent. Do you think you could post it? Sorry, soccer starr!))
I looked up from eating my pancakes and saw Clee “advising” Ingrid and Meilin. Ingrid and Meilin both looked uncomfortable. It wouldn’t take an idiot to see they wanted to work out beauty and boys their own way. I couldn’t take it anymore. I got up, passed two older boys deep in conversation, and stood behind Clee. I gestured for Ingrid and Meilin to remain quiet and gently blew on the back of Clee’s neck. “EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” she screamed so loudly, everyone fell silent. Then, they burst into laughter!!!! Clee spun around and she looked furious. I was scared for a moment, but just laughed it off and went back to my table. Fatima looked like she didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Omorose was smiling again. And Ingrid and Meilin? Free from the torture of girl talk, for now.
SFTDP ((Regina is my Magic RPG character. That was supposed to be on the Magic RPG. Sorry for any confusion!!))
((Grr…how dare you. Just kidding, I don’t mind!))
Just as I had begun to launch into a full detailed description of Makeup Tips, (I had just gotten into how to create a good smoky eye effect without overdoing it!) all of a sudden I had felt something slow, like a cold, piercing wind on the back of my neck.
((Because Halena is a daughter of Hades, is it ok that when she blows air, it doesn’t feel like a normal blow would? Besides, I don’t think that Clee would react like that if her “blow” was normal.))
The feeling was almost like a sharp stab, and it surprised me so much that I immediately jumped and let out a thrilling scream.”EEEEEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKKKKKKK!” Still shaken up from the blow on my neck, I let out a gulp and began to pant heavily. What was going on? I thought, confused. For a brief second, I could feel every eye on me in the cafeteria. Including the hot guy I had gone out with on a date the week before. Oh gods no, I thought. Not this! And to add insult to the injury, it only took a second before everyone burst out into laughter. I couldn’t meet anyone’s gaze as I turned around slowly, to see…Halena. Inside my mind was racing, but outside, I just focused on giving her my best “don’t-you-dare-take-my-boy” look. Instead of the usual fearful reaction, however, she just casually laughed it off.
I couldn’t believe what had just happened, and immediately stood up and stormed off into the outdoors. I sat down on a vacant bench, and put my head into my hands. My make up was sure to be messed up already, so it wasn’t like I had to be careful anymore. The blow alone would have been so utterly humiliating enough, but the fact that she had been a FIRST year, out of anybody, and a pretty nice first year at that, made the whole thing twice as worse. And to think I had actually thought about HELPING her with her little love issues…no siree, stupid Halena wasn’t gonna get any help from me! I thought defiantly.
Now, I know that most people just brush off Aphrodite as a weak, helpless cabin that just sit on the sidelines and look pretty. And of course, looking pretty is very important, but if there’s one thing that’s really important, it’s getting revenge. Oh yes…I thought with a sly smile.
“Watch out, Halena…” I whispered. “Here comes Clee….and Aphrodite.”
((Blowing thing: Sure
“Watch out, Halena…†I whispered. “Here comes Clee….and Aphrodite.†…Eep.))
((Sorry, if you’re not ok with that that’s fine but I thought we could use some action on here, *wink wink*. And I promise that “revenge” doesn’t mean death. Ha ha.))
((It probably means ruining Halena’s lovelife, not that she cares.))
((Good gods, this RPG is just full of revenge! Funny, as I don’t remember anyone being the child of Nemesis…?))
((Again, eep.))
Halena had decided to rescue Ingrid and Meilin from the tortures of girl talk, and scared Clee right off her seat onto the floor. It was quite comical, and Omorose couldn’t help but smile and giggle a bit, although she was still quite sad. Clee got up with a huff, trying to ignore the pair of laughing boys who had previously been in a deep conversation about something Omorose couldn’t overhear. Erin, a table away, was in some sort of conniptions.
“All right, everyone,” said Chiron form the high table. “It’s time for classes. Could I ask every new student to come up to the front of the dining hall, please?”
The new students shuffled forward, past the eyes of the other staring students. Omorose noticed that the handsome boy, Adrian, and his friend, didn’t stand up. Neither did Erin, and many other familiar faces. They lined up at the front of the hall. There weren’t a great lot of them, but enough to span from one side of the hall to the other.
“Please state your origin and parent when i call your name, and we will determine your schedule,” said Mr. Korlin, standing up. He pointed to Omorose, standing next to Halena and Fatima on the end of the line. “Your name?”
“Omorose Hastings,” she said quietly.
“What?”
“ OMOROSE HASTINGS,” she shouted. Everyone giggled.
“Origin?”
“I come from Egypt, but I live right here in the United States,” she offered.
“And your parentage?”
“My stepparents?”
“No, your god parent,” sighed Mr. Korlin.
“I think…the goddess Isis,” she said uncertainly.
Almost instantly, something appeared above her head. A small crown shaped like a throne appeared from nowhere and hovered over her head.
“Good,” he said. “Your claim matches your story. You are indeed the daughter of Isis.” There was a flurry of talk throughout the room. Apparently, Omorose was not the only one who had heard the legend that they had read in the library, which now stuck haphazardly from her pocket. Omorose put her hand over it, cupping the papers down.
Mr. Korlin moved on down the line, asking names and parentage.
SIDRA
“Miyuki!” I called from the bathroom, brushing my unruly hair and trying to figure out why I couldn’t change my ears or teeth back today.
Well, I guess I might not be just part-kitsune… I thought to myself.
(Before you ask, I was fully clothed. I normally wear black leggings, a red cropped t-shirt, and black hi-tops with a chibi kitsune on them anyway.)
“What?” I heard a sleepy voice call from the main room.
“It’s time to go down to breakfast!”
I heard a rustling sound, then a squeak. “It’s 6:30 in the morning!”
I rolled my eyes. “Yes, and if this was 15 minutes later somebody would be dragging us down! Let’s go!” Not waiting for an answer, I wandered into the room, waited for Miyuki to get dressed, and then dragged her down.
“Hey,” she asked while we were in the elevator, “what’s going on with your ears? And your eyes? And your teeth?”
I rolled my eyes. “I’ve got no clue, but it seems like I can’t go back to my human form. And it’ll get worse over today. I only managed to go to full fox when I was two…I didn’t try again until I was eight, and now I turn into a busty anthro-fox when I get furious! So I’m gonna be slowly shapeshifting all of today, and I don’t want anyone to touch my skin, because I’m going to be hot.”
When that comment was finished, the doors opened, and we walked out to breakfast.
“OMOROSE HASTINGS,”
I giggled. I couldn’t help it, Omorose had just shouted it out. Suddenly, a small crown shaped like a throne appeared over her head. I guess that was the symbol of Isis, because, was it Mr. Korlin? He said something and marked it down on his paper. He moved on to me. “Name?
“Halena.”
“Origin?”
“NYC”
“Parentage?”
“Hades,” I mumbled. Whispers traveled down the line, and my cheeks reddened. “Good,” he said and moved to a blond girl next to me. Once he was gone, the girl leaned over and said, “Hades, huh? Tough luck. I’m Ilkora, daughter of Loki, Norse god of tricks.”
I rolled my eyes. “Yes, I’m aware that Loki is the god of tricks.” Ilkora’s eyes flashed. “Watch what you say, girl. I can make it so you can’t find anything. Now, you know a secret. What is it?” Ilkora had said it a little loudly and Mr. Korlin’s eyes darted toward us. “Shhh,” I said. “Not so loud. We’ll get caught! Yes, I know a secret. Why should I tell you.” Ilkora gave me a look. “Because it would be hilarious!” I pondered over my options. On one hand, it would be nice if Erin was humiliated, after the way he’d treated Omorose. On the other, if he did work in the kitchen, he must’ve been pretty poor. “Okay, I’ll tell you. But if you get caught, you didn’t hear it from me!”
“Fair enough.” Ilkora replied and faced front again. I felt sort of guilty. Afterwards, when everyone had been marked down, Mr. Korlin said, “We will sort you into your classes tonight. You may now finish eating breakfast.” How could I eat when my stomach was already full of guilt? Nevertheless, I trudged back to my seat, complained of a stomachache, and left to my room. “Oh, Dethaea,” I said, stroking her back. “Did I really do the right thing?”
After stating her name and that Ino was her mother (it felt odd to say that), Ingrid went back to her table and sat down. She had an idea. She stared at the water in her glass, and thought, ‘Up.’ What followed was a spectacular anticlimax: the water didn’t move. Slightly irritated, she focused more. The water rippled very, very gently.
“Whatcha doing?” Meilin asked, sitting down next to her.
“Trying to get the water to–never mind, it’s not working.” She sighed and pushed the cup away.
((She will be able to control water when she’s really focused and extremely angry, such as when her friends are captured or something. Then she could do some serious damage.
))
I watched Dr. Korlin move along the line of other new students spread out at the front of the dining hall. I was standing next to Ingrid, and after she had given her name and parentage, she walked back to the table. Dr. Korlin moved on to me.
‘Your name?’
‘Meilin Yu.’ He wrote something down on his clipboard. ‘And where are you from in China?’
‘Er…kind of near, well, not really…’ I mumbled, not sure how to describe my hometown.
‘Sorry, I didn’t catch that. Where?’ asked Dr. Korlin again, smiling.
I made a decision. ‘Shanghai, China.’
‘Heritage? One of the Heavenly Celestials, I presume?
I nodded. ‘織女. Daughter of the Jade Emperor.’
He laughed. ‘The Eastern Zeus, huh?’
I was confused. What was a Zeus? Nodding anyway, I smiled and walked back to the table where Ingrid had already sat down. She appeared to be staring very hard at her glass of water.
‘Whatcha doing?’ I asked, taking my place next to her.
‘Trying to get the water to–never mind, it’s not working.’ She sighed.
I turned to my other side to see Clee rubbing her neck, looking mutinous.
‘What happened to you?’
She looked up guiltily, and immediately took her hand off her neck. ‘Uh…nothing.’
I shrugged and turned back to my food. Then I remembered. ‘Hey…Clee, Ingrid. What is a Zeus?’
Clee and Ingrid took one look at each other and burst out laughing.
I was feeling quite annoyed. ‘What?’ They kept laughing, gasping and wheezing; I was amazed to see that they were practically crying.
‘Can someone tell me what’s so funny here?’ I was extremely annoyed.
‘Nothing…’ Ingrid said, wiping her eyes. ‘Just that – Zeus is the most powerful Greek god. Like, everyone’s heard of him, and not just here.’
‘Oh.’ I contemplated this new fact. ‘So if my grandfather’s the Eastern Zeus…Oh, I get it!’
‘Yes,’ Clee replied. ‘Finally.’
A few minutes later, I finished my breakfast, leaving a single dumpling on the plate. ‘Are you guys done?’
Ingrid and Clee both nodded. Clee, I saw, had left almost half of her food.
‘Lift up your plates.’ Looking puzzled, they did so anyway. I snapped my fingers, and a cloud hovered under each plate. Clee still held onto her plate cautiously, though.
‘You can let go now.’ She nodded, but didn’t look convinced. ‘It’s perfectly fine! Look!’ I snapped my fingers again and a cloud lifted up the plate I was holding a few inches. I let go and the plate stayed there, the cloud drifting lazily. Hesitant, Clee let go and no surprise, the exact same thing happened. That is, nothing. Her eyes grew big. ‘Woah!’
I laughed. ‘Yeah, I know. Pretty cool, huh?’
All three of us watched as the three plates drifted over the tables, causing heads to turn as they watched the clouds float over to the fire and tilt the plates slightly, sending the food sliding straight into the flames.
((Um, bella? Can you please read Post #175. Not only should Meilin be aware of what happened to Clee, but Clee has stormed out of the cafeteria already. I guess we can just say that she came back into the cafeteria now? And let’s just pretend that Meilin does know what happened to Clee.))
Dr. Korlin moved on to me then, right as I sat down, Miyuki right next to me. “Your name?”
“Sidra Kitsune Teris.”
“Where are you from?”
“NYC.”
“Heritage? Inari, I presume?”
“Yes. Weren’t the white fox ears a giveaway?”
“I suppose, but it was also the way you have two fox tails. Miss Teris, I think you need to control your powers a bit better, they’re getting the better of you.”
With this, he moved on to Miyuki, and I promptly realized that I now had two tails, fangs, hair reaching to the floor, claws, and rabbit-like white fox ears. “Eep!” I squeaked, and I promptly grew my third tail.
When Miyuki finished, she leaned over to me and whispered “That’s slow?”
I sighed, letting out a bit of steam. “It progresses faster when I’m around people and if I’m flustered. How I hate being the daughter of someone who shapeshifts on a hourly basis.”
Omorose trudged back to her seat, followed by Halena. They took their dishes oover to the fire and dumped the rest of the scraps, and then set them back on the table and waited for everyone else. Omorose saw a few girls using magical powers to lift plates and make water move. She instantly felt very left out. She didn’t have powers, and even if she had she wouldn’t use them.
Suddenly, Adrian, without looking up, raised a hand and flicked it. The plates that Meilin had been levitating crashed to the floor. The glass of water spilled all over the table and cracked down the middle. James, the boy with the glowing skin, got hurriedly to his feet, clutched his books and stalked away. As he went, he leaned down quickly to both girls and said in a serious tone, “Don’t do that stuff right now. You’ll earn more attention than you’re looking for, and none of it will be good.”
His fear grew immensely. Everyone with real power was going to be a real target. Soon, the new students would find out just how much their powers would cost them. It was only a matter of time.
After breakfast was over, all of the first years were ushered out of the hall and down a long corridor. Over the bridge they went, over the lake and the morning sun. Nobody had any idea where they were headed, except for the chaperone, who was a large man with burly muscles, a thick walrus mustache and wore a tunic made of some sort of white tablecloth material. A sprig of holly was latched into his hair.
“Where is this guy going?” whispered someone.
“No idea,” Omorose answered.
((Should we reunite the first years with their god parents? Or take them to the gym to test their power? Or something completely different?))
((I think testing, then reunion.))
((Same here. Testing, then reunion.))
((Agree with Kai and LBK.))
“That was really creepy,” Ingrid said, as softly as she could to Meilin as the first-years were ushered out of the hall.
“Do you think there could be some…you know, kind of people here?” Meilin said, just as softly.
“I don’t know. I don’t know about you, but my powers aren’t that awesome. I can’t do what you do.” This really bothered Ingrid. She hadn’t considered before that all her powers allowed her to do was escape. That was good, sure, but shouldn’t she be able to fight, too? What would happen in a battle, and her friends were in danger?
“So where are we going now?”
“We’re going to the gym, so they can see what kind of abilities we have.”
“Great,” Ingrid groaned. “This is going to be fantastic.”
She didn’t completely fail, though. She had a good mile time, and she came in a minute with ease under everyone in swimming races. She could barely lift a practice sword, though, and her aim in archery was terrible. The final trial, though, was when they were called to demonstrate their magical powers. A bowl of water was placed before her.
“Can you do anything with the water?” Mr. Korlin asked kindly. Ingrid concentrated. Nothing happened.
“Anything at all?” He asked again. Someone in the crowd tittered, saying “She can’t do anything.”
All of a sudden, she had a vision of a battle, and Meilin being captured. The enemy who held her laughed at Ingrid, saying, “Look at your friend! She can’t do anything to save you!” while Meilin screamed. With a roar, a huge swell of water erupted from the pool, dousing all those watching.
“Well then,” Mr. Korlin said, wiping his glasses. “You can go back in line.”
There was no one tittering now. As Ingrid walked back to her spot in line, she thought, ‘Wow. That was almost cool.’
((If you want to add anything to the testing, feel free. I tried to keep it vague.))
“Oh, great,” I thought. “I’m next. All I can do is talk to monsters. What good is that?” It was Ingrid’s turn, and I heard someone say, “She can’t do anything.” I must’ve been focusing at the right place at the right time, because, when Ingrid made that huge wall of water, I ducked. Fortunately, I hardly got wet. ((I’m thinking we’re all either lined up or in some sort of bleachers))But I hope that rude person got soaked. “Way to go, Ingrid,” I whispered as I climbed down the bleachers to/went to the middle of the gym.I had about an average mile time, horrid swimming time((corpse are dry+water is wet=she doesn’t like water)), okay sword fighting, and pretty good archery. Now it was time for the demonstration of my magic powers. Mr. Korlin placed a small, um, scorpion-lion and told me to tell it something. “Um, hi?” I thought to the thing. “…hi.” a small voice came back. It sounded a little scared. “Don’t be afraid,” I thought gently. “I’m a daughter of Hades.” I extended my hand. The scorpion-lion, uh, examined my hand for a minute and climbed on. It scramble up my shoulder and onto my head, where it dug it’s claws into my hair and refused to budge. Laughter came from the crowd, except it was friendly laughter. I coaxed the scorpion-lion down and back into it’s box((I think I’ll introduce her power of summoning the dead in battle)). “Well,” Mr. Korlin said. “That was very impressive, considering the fact that it was poisonous.”
I was in line behind Halena. The mile run was pretty easy for me, but the swimming was tiring. I’d never tried archery before, but managed to get most of my arrows at least to the edge of the target. The sword fighting was fun, too. I had felt a strange exhilaration and power when I picked up the sword, and managed to fight pretty well. I was more worried about the demonstration of magical powers, though. I mean, I knew I could control clouds and everything, but I wasn’t sure of the extent of my powers. Dr. Korlin’s voice cut through my thoughts.
‘Are you ready, Meilin?’
I looked up. He was resting his hand on a large, heavy-looking rock.
‘It weighs 60 kilograms, just to be sure that your powers are useful in battle. In case you need to levitate anyone to safety, this rock should weigh more than what most people here weigh.’
I nodded, and hoped my face wouldn’t betray how nervous I felt. The most I had levitated before was my luggage and Clee, and I dare say Clee weighed even less than my suitcases.
‘On three. Ready – one, two, three–‘
I concentrated hard and snapped my fingers. A few tendrils of wispy cirrus snaked underneath the rock, which was resting on the table, and lifted it up a few inches. I snapped my fingers again and a larger, more substantial cumulus cloud appeared in the small gap between the rock and the table, levitating it a couple feet into the air until it was level with Dr. Korlin’s head.
‘Now, I want you to keep it at that same height, but start moving it across the gym to the other side. OK?’
I nodded briefly, keeping my gaze on the rock. I snapped my fingers again and the cloud started drifting across the gym, lazily dodging heads. As soon as it had gone about 2/3 of the way I started to feel extremely tired. The cloud dipped a few inches and everyone watching moved back a bit. Finally, the cloud reached the other side and I snapped my fingers, which by now felt like lead. The cloud disappeared and the rock dropped five feet onto the gym floor, where luckily a gym mat was set up so it wouldn’t break the floor. Exhausted, I collapsed to the floor and lay there, staring up at the ceiling.
‘Are you all right?’ Dr. Korlin asked.
I whispered, ‘Yes.’
‘That was pretty impressive, anyway. You just levitated a 60-kilogram rock to a height of five or six feet and moved it 100 metres across the gym. Hopefully you won’t ever have to do it that extremely again.’
I nodded from where I was lying on the floor. Ingrid came over and dragged me up, pulling me over to the couches which were set up for people to watch the trials.
((Ok, are just the first years being tested, or should some of the kids who have already been at the school for awhile still being tested? I’m just going to say that the second years also are re-tested to be placed in classes, but they have a different test from the first years. What do you think?))
I stumbled back into the cafeteria to see the first years lined up, announcing their name and godly parent. Some of the kids were confident and happy with their parent, but others were embarrassed, confused, or just plain upset.
Once the line finally finished, the first years were sent off to be tested for their classes. I noticed a few of them pointing and whispering at me. Most likely I was going to be known as “The girl who screamed from someone blowing on the back of her neck” for awhile. Ugh.
((I agree. I think the first years should stay and watch for observation credits.
))
It was drawing nearer and nearer to Omorose’s turn, and she was extremely nervous. everyone else had awesome powers. How was she supposed to explain that she didn’t know if she had any or not?
To make matters worse, a crowd of second and third year students suddenly filed into the gym and the bleachers. Apparently, they were there to watch and then participate! Omorose’s palms began to sweat. She saw Adrian and James walk to to the top of the bleachers and begin muttering in low voices.
It turned out that the tests were not as hard as she had thought they would be. Omorose was on the track team at her school back home, so the mile was a breeze. Swimming wasn’t terrible, but she sank a bit near the deep part of the pool. Her sword fighting and archery were perfect within a hair of discontent, although she wasn’t sure why. Then, it was time for powers testing. She felt her stomach flip over about fifteen times as she walked up to the long table.
“Are you ready, Omorose?” Mr. Korlin said.
“I guess,” she said quietly.
“What can you do for us today?” he asked.
“I…I…” Her face was turning red.
“Omorose?” he asked. “What are your powers?”
“I don’t know,” she said defeatedly. Suddenly, there was a sharp, cracking pain in her arm. Someone had thrown something at her. “Boo!” shouted a third year girl, who had the face of a coyote and the brutish voice to match. The large rock had broken her humerus. A rain of booing showered down from the bleachers.
“She’s getting hurt!” James said to Adrian. He sounded worried.
“Relax, it’s just a freshman,” Adrian said nonchalantly. But something inside him contradicted what he had said.
Omorose felt more pain- in her chest, in her legs, in her neck. She felt sick inside. She wished, with all of her heart, that the pain would stop, to be better and somewhere safe.
‘ Please help me, Isis. If you are my mother, tell me what to do!‘ She prayed with all of her might, clenching her fists to avoid the pain of hate.
To her surprise, someone answered her, a voice echoing somewhere within her mind,
Concentrate, darling. Heal yourself so that you can heal others.
She thought about how it would feel to be healthy, well and with her friends, and for everything to be somewhat normal again. Suddenly, she opened her eyes wide and she lifted a few inches off of the ground. Her skin glowed for a moment, and then she was on the ground, feeling strangely…good.
“Did she just heal?” whispered Adrian.
“Do that again. Break my finger,” commanded Mr. Korlin. She did, ignoring the small crack.
“Now heal it,” he commanded.
She concentrated on his finger, thinking of how nice it would look if it were fixed and how much better he would feel. instantly, the bones beneath the skin moved visibly back into place.
“Very good,” said Mr. Korlin. “That was excellent. Please sit back down.” Omorose nodded and walked back, still stunned. There was a polite round of clapping from the bleachers. Even the brutish coyote girl was clapping a bit.
“She did nicely,” said James. “A healer. We could use one of those.”
“Yes…” said Adrian. But he couldn’t explain exactly why he was happy to see her all right and smiling again.
((Sudelan is going to be tested. He’s going to be in front Erin, even though both are being retested. Not fun.))
I was in front Erin in the line for having our powers retested. I got to the front of the line. Mr. Korlin asked “I’m thinking of a number. I-”
“7.” I said.
“Good. Next!” He called.
As I walked away, I ducked, letting the rock on a string attached to the ceiling swing past me.
“Good job. The first part was-” he said.
“Just to distract me.”
((One, Erin is a 3rd year, and two, he’s not being tested again after what happened the first time.))
((Humph. What happened the first time?
(Just imagine my post doesn’t have “in front of Erin”)))
((Time will tell, Youngling, Time will tell.))
((Sudelan is only a year younger than Erin, and I’m older than you.))
((But you’re a Youngling.))
((How?))
((A PoPo officer sidles up to the two of you and pokes you with her nightstick, muttering in a low voice to move it along, please.))
((The simple fact that you don’t understand how you are a youngling makes you a youngling.
Aggie- Fine… *pays fine*))
((But I do understand now. I’m not a youngling.))
*curious*
Adonia and Alexandria met that morning, and walked toward the dining hall, Adonia pouring out her woes to Alexandria.
“You would not believe who they put me with. Two demigods of death! Seriously! How on earth could they do this?”
“Well, maybe they didn’t know who you’re a daughter of.”
She sighed. “Probably. They aren’t terrible, I suppose. I just…” She trailed off as she noticed Alexandria staring at her. “What is it, ‘Dria?”
Alexandria pointed above her head. Adonia looked up. Some glowing wheat stalks floated above her head.
“You’ve been claimed!” Alexandria said, excitedly. The receptionist looked up, and then hurried forward. When she got to Adonia, she knelt for a moment, bowing her head. Alexandria followed her lead. The glittering, glowing, mark remained there, and the receptionist got up after a moment.
“Congratulations, my dear. You have been, as your friend said, claimed. Demeter has marked you as her own.” She smiled, almost, then gestured to the wheat stalks. “That will fade when a few more people have seen it. Again, congratulations.”
Adonia beamed, gazing up at it. “Wow.”
“No kidding.”
Just then, a large crowd began moving through. They didn’t appear to see either Adonia or Alexandria. As they both recognized their roommates, and a few other first years, the both immediately fell into line. Adonia noticed that the symbol over her head had faded, though she was not quite sure they had seen it.
They went to the gym, for a series of tests. Adonia was better at swimming, and Alexandria at running. They were both better at swordplay than archery, though Alexandria was marginally better at archery. Adonia suspected her of using winds to adjust her arrows slightly, but couldn’t prove it. Then came the testing for powers.
Adonia was in front. The tester stepped up to her, and frowned. “Hm. You aren’t on my list. Who are you, and who’s your godly parent?”
“I’m Adonia Day. My mother is Demeter.”
He nodded, writing that down. “Right. You sound certain. How do you know?”
“Well, first my Aunt told me, and second I was claimed just before I came in here.”
He raised his eyebrow a fraction, but didn’t comment. “Well then. I’ll come back to you when I’ve gotten supplies.” He looked at Alexandria. “You’re not on the list either. Name?”
“Alexandria Day. I don’t know who my parent is.”
“Ah. Any powers you know about?”
“Well, I can control wind.”
The man nodded, and wrote something down. “Very well. You will both be tested later.”
((Sorry for the length. That post’s been in progress for days, evolving as events have progressed.))
((So…what should we do after we’re tested?))
((I think we were planning on doing reunions with the gods who chose to show up and their children.))
((I don’t know… It seems to me that gods are not the sort of beings that would like to be told, ‘Right, if you want to show up, make sure it’s right then’. It seems to me that if they want to honor their children with their presence, they’d want to chose the time.))
And so maybe they chose after testing. I think there should be a god-child reunion pretty early so we can understand who’s with whom. It gives us something to do while we build up a plot.
((Okay, where would that be? Some sort of garden?))
Ingrid’s mother can’t come out of the ocean. But Ingrid could just be a special case.
((Her mother could send a message to the school and arrange to meet Ingrid at the beach.))
((That sounds fine.))
((Whoa! Slow down! Has everybody already gone through their test?))
((No. I wanted to know in advance. Sorry!))
((Sorry. Was in grumpy mood then. *grumblegrumble*))
SIDRA
I stepped up to the plate in testing, Felina after me.
“Why you both? I presume you have similar powers?” was asked.
“Yep,” I answered. “Except for my flame stuff which isn’t all that strong anyways.”
But I concentrated, and after about five seconds of closing my eyes, I began to shift. My bones changed shape, my other six tails grew out, and the changes I hadn’t done that morning completed.
I was a dalmatian-sized crimson-colored nine-tailed fox.
Felina had completed her transformation respectively, into a heterochromatic Serval-size black cat with silver streaks and platinum blond ears.
We shifted back after a few seconds, heading off to go find the rest of our roomates.
((I’m going to introduce the other characters I made. Here’s their bio;
Name-Cailin and Cadeo Hunter
Age-13
Appearence-Except for the fact that Cadeo has short hair and Cailin has long hair, they look very much alike. They have green, almost scaley eyes that glint like they have a secret all the time, white-blond hair with slight green streaks, average height with sharper-than-usual teeth.
He fell in love and, since Alex could see through the Mist they had twins. Sobek visits often to check up on Alex and told her about the Antedeluvian Acadamy. Cailin and Cadeo have known they were demigods for a long time. as soon as they turned 13, their mother sent them to the academy.
Powers-They can shift into crocodiles and talk to all reptiles with their minds.
I’ll usually write with them together, but under separate headings))
Cailin
Great. Just great. We were late to the academy, but for a good reason. Along to way, me and Cadeo had spotted a injured turtle and we just had to stop and help it. It took longer than I’d thought, and hindered us by about 2 days. We finally ran up the steps and, panting heavily, announced our names to the lady at the front. “Cailin,” I panted. “and Cadeo,” my brother said, still breathing heavily. “Mmm,” the lady said, “Oh, yes. You’re both in room 311,((Is that okay, onomatopoeia, if they room with Annette?)) just over there. Everyone is in the gym, getting tested, so just quickly put your stuff down.” She handed both of us a key. Me and Cadeo went toward where the lady had pointed. “311…311…Oh, here we go.” I opened the room, expecting really ugly carpeting and metal beds. But no, it was lush, red carpeting and real mattresses! I set my stuff down on the bed nearest to the door, and waited for Cadeo. “Come on!” I said. “We’re gonna be late!” Finally, he put his stuff down on the top bunk across from mine and we sped out the door, arriving at the gym just in time to see two girls shape shift. One became some sort of nine-tailed fox and the other became a cat. “Wow,” I whispered.
Cadeo
((Note: I am not that great at writing boy characters, so there may be some stereotypes in here. Sorry to all male MBers))
Me and Cailin got into line, and awaited our turn, I shuffled my my feet and looked around. There seemed to be many different mythologies here. Finally, it was me and Cailin’s turn. We did okay at running, excellent at swimming, and pretty bad at sword fighting and archery. Now, it was time to test their powers. Me and Cailin concentrated, and within 30 seconds, we were both crocodiles. After a few seconds, we shifted back, but there was always a little left over and it would stay for a few minutes. For me, it was a little bit of scaly skin. Cailin got unlucky and was stuck with a small tail.
SFTDP ((When I said Mist in the bio, I meant Veil. Sorry!))
Victoria:
I woke up late. Ilkora had already left, and the alarm clock at my bedside informed me that I’d missed breakfast. Fine. I ate a bit of my stock of food for the quest, then got out of bed and threw on some clothes. Running down the hall, I realized that I didn’t know where everyone had went. I gritted my teeth. “Life is a game.” I chanted under my breath, shutting my eyes and reaching out with my hands. “I bet myself a bar of chocolatw that I can find Sudelan.” I though hard, then opened my eyes again. I was headed towards the outside of the building. Fine.
After a few minutes I saw the others taking turns at being tested. I did well on the run, as I could keep my eyes on the competition, but the swim was awful. Somehow water … didn’t work so well for me. I proceeded through the tests, feeling excited and annoyed at the same time. The school was great, but my internal universe was still off-balance and I didn’t want to give it up just like that. Besides, goddess or no, mom owes me …something. An apology would be nice, but I could live without it. So I must think of this place as training and not as home. I would grow stronger, and someday I would make her notice me, one way or the other.
((Note; Vicky isn’t evil. She’ just mad, for now. She won’t go against the gods, but I think I might have her run away at some point.))
((Guys…. just a note: It’s IKORA, not Ilkora. Sorry, that’s getting kind of annoying…))
((Will post later, gotta do English.))
((Sorry, it’s just on RQ’s post of everyone’s characters, en accidentally said Ilkora instead of Ikora. Sorry again.))
((Wasn’t that my post??
RQ- Sorry, I’ll try to remember that next time.))
((One of you two.))
((I didn’t post any list of characters…))
((Sorry, I often get you confused. That sounds pathetic. *headdeskheaddeskheaddesk*))
I finished the last bits of testing, and saw Vicky.
