  2. To repeat from the old thread, have the almighty GAPAs recieved my drawing? The subject is “rosebud2’s visual arts picture” or something like that…

      1. Okay. I sent the email. Let me know if it didn’t work, because I’ve never really sent pictures by email and I don’t know if I did the right thing…

            1. Was it the six-word story? I think I liked Pseudo’s best out of all of ours…two-headed HPB, ha-ha. I wonder where she got the picture…*rambles* Anyway, I hope GAPAs post your Photoshop soon.

                1. Yeah. When I made the thing I made, it took a while to find a good picture of an HPB that wasn’t fuzzy slippers. I played around with it and know it looks like [self-snipped so I don’t give it away].

  3. Sorry if this is a DP, and you GAPAs might want to get out the Keiffer-Poison. DId you get my email? I think I did it right this time.

  4. Those are some pretty awesome pictures. (Sorry about bugging you though, I’m just a freakishly impatient person. As you’ve probably figured out.)

  5. I’m still working on my photography, though I haven’t taken nearly as much lately what with school and sports and winter. I’m better at taking pictures in spring/summer, I should really work on some fall/winter stuff…

For those of you who haven’t seen any of my stuff, there’s some on the last thread (closer to the end than the beginning but I don’t recall what comments exactly).

  6. I have quite a few new cartoons that I think I’ll send in now. Most of them are on deviantart, for those who are deviants and would like to comment. :]

P.S. I apologize now for the cruddy quality, I took pictures of my pictures with a camera and then uploaded them to my hard drive, because I don’t have a scanner and it would have taken me awhile to find one.

  7. Is it just my computer, or is everything anyone posts on this thread going above bubblebabe’s post on January ninth, 18:03? The last time I posted on here was January tenth, 9:50, and it’s a post higher than bubblebabe’s.

  8. Wow, nobody’s posted on here in a while. Considering the thread’s still on Recent Posts, anyway.
I tried to make a really cool (In my opinion, anyway) picture of a pie war at MA, but something happened to it and now it won’t open.
And I don’t think I have much else that both doesn’t give away my location and is fairly artistic. It would be a photo, if I did; I’m not that good with drawing, much as I wish I were.

    1. You should send it in if you find it. I’m just waiting for the GAPAs to post some kind of ‘visual art’ so I can look at it. *coughpleasecough*

      1. I can find the file, but every time I try to open it, it just displays some error message. *sigh*
I might redraw it, but it’d be really discouraging… I might also draw it on paper. Where it will remain, unless it’s thrown away, or something.
Or I could just stick with what I’m good at.

And KaiYves, I think it’s funny how you personify space stations. I like them a lot :D

      Pie 0
      Squid 0
      1. In my mind, they each have a “personality” which you can sort of see a little bit in their expressions.

Skylab is very earnest but somewhat quiet and self-doubting. (Having Apollo as your big brother gives you one heck of an inferiority complex, and being nicknamed “The Junkyard Mission” really doesn’t help.)

Mir is quirky and curious, and he talks to himself and other inanimate objects like the little dragonfly statue he’s holding in the picture. (The station was called “The Dragonfly” because some people thought it looked like one.)

Alpha is very happy and energetic. She makes friends very easily and is very diplomatic. (Being from 16 countries at once helps in that respect.) Mir taught her and sees Alpha as his “niece” because her Russian components were based on his. (He’s also envious that she’s gotten to be friends with the shuttles since the beginning, while he didn’t get to meet them until after the end of the Cold War.)

        Pie 0
        Squid 0
  24. Here they are, the Apollo Muses:

From left to right, we have:
Feather, cameraman for KCTV (Kokonino Country Television) filming Mimi and Koko.
Mimi, a television reporter interviewing the astronauts. She likes her ’60s bangles and high heels. Having her as a reporter just seemed like a good fit.
Kokopelli, astronaut. I didn’t assign positions, but he’s probably Commander just because he wouldn’t let anyone else get the glory. (How exactly he’s wearing a headset, I’m not sure.)
Urania, astronaut. (Duh) That’s supposed to be the Greek flag on her suit. (BTW, whoever thought Koko and Urania in a small capsule together for a week was a good idea need to be SACKED.)
Pwt, astronaut. En hopes to find some sort of aliens that en can chase around on the moon. The scan’s kind of bad, but I drew the Egyptian flag on en’s sleeve.
Chad is, obviously, an engineer who designed their rocket. (Probably all by himself.) He seems to like his slide rule, but he probably wants a calculator instead.
Aeiou is flight director, with a tasteful modification of Gene Kranz’s famous white vest.
Craw is the Capcom, (The guy in Mission Control who talks to the astronauts) because he’s already used to relaying what Aeiou thinks to the others. His speech bubble says: “FLIGHT DIRECTOR AEIOU SAYS FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION.”
Bo is another engineer working in Mission Control. I think she likes her glasses a lot.

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
    1. Sorry for the slight tangent, but I thought the Pwt gender issue had been resolved? In a recent comic I thought Pwt was referred to as “he” in Larry’s main comic.

  26. I have some art, but my scanner wants me to ink it and inking nearly always ruins my stuff. I’ll see if I can take a picture with a camera in better light and send that in. “This WAS going to be my avatar. But it didn’t work, so I figured I’d just send it here, instead.”

“This is a picture of my Piranha Plant (from the mario games) model. The pipe is made out of a T.P. tube, colored green with oil pastel. The rim around the top is made of green felt. The stem and leaf of the plant is made out of green paper. I made the head out of the foam “scoop” from one of those ice cream shooter-thingies; the spots and lips are white 3-D fabric paint. For the teeth, I just pressed bits of paper into the glue while it was still wet.”

“Japan2adjust is just Japan, from Axis Powers: Hetalia, eating ramen. I was so proud of the hair and all everyone would talk about were the noodles…”

“Japan10002 is when Hiroshima and Nagasaki got bombed in WWII. Nations feel political struggles as aches, and actual attacks as sharp pains.”

  53. Wow, all of these pictures look great. I am taking “Drawing B” at school right now, and am pulling a D, but only because the teacher has not graded my ink and wash woolly mammoth, and I lost quite a few points on my portrait (of my sister) for tardiness and the wrong size paper. I got a B on my picture of Luna Lovegood, which was surprising, seeing as I replaced her hand with a pirate hook (I re-drew it about 5 times, and it still looked diseased and mangled, so I gave her a hook).
I’m doing a Star Wars montage for my final, and I think it will contain an AT-AT, a snowspeeder, the death star, an ewok, and some other things. I’m pretty excited for it, because most of my other friends in drawing are Star Wars nerds (as am I).

  55. You know you have a weird drawing style when you draw hair on a (supposed-to-be-male) wireframe head, it looks feminine, and then you give it longer hair and it looks masculine….. o.O *sighs*

  56. Soooo I may have lost all my photos. Our computer crashed (while I was on it, but techguy says it can’t have been something I did since it crashed kind of oddly) There’s a few I have online at deviant art or photobucket, but few of those are original files and pretty much every picture I have ever taken was on the comp that crashed. And might not be there when they get it working again.

I am trying very, very, very, hard not to freak out.

    1. We have some of your pictures, too, don’t know if they’re full size or not.

I’m paranoid about losing photos, far more so than I am about documents or most anything else. I keep them on two computers, one external drive, and at least two sets of DVDs, one I keep at work and one I keep at home. A professional photographer does all that and more. He also keeps raw photos both in their proprietary format and in DNG in case any of the other formats become obsolete. Well, I did have them on two computers before the operating system on the museum computer committed suicide. Fortunately, I had just finished making back up copies.

One of the first Photoshop books I read said make a CD or DVD copy of your pictures as soon as you can get to a computer, before you’ve done any photoediting whatsover. DVDs aren’t the most trustworthy of media, but at least that’s something.

On the bright side — and I mean this quite seriously — better to have this happen early on. Your future pictures will be even better, you still have all the knowledge and skill you’ve learned from making these, and you’ll be highly motivated to make back-up copies. But I’ll cross my fingers for you and hope your pictures are retrievable. That’s a real kick in the gut to lose your work.

      1. It would also be good to have copies on an online storage site, in case something dramatically disastrous occurs and all of your physical backups are demolished. (I would recommend Dropbox because it’s fantastically simple to use–it just makes another folder somewhere on your hard drive that automatically syncs with Dropbox’s data center. Then, you can install Dropbox on any number of other computers (and even your phone or iPod Touch) and have all the files there as well, all automatically syncing between computers.)

        1. That’s something I keep meaning to do. Dropbox is a bit pricey though for my needs. It also takes a tediously long time to upload 60 or so gigs of unedited photos and who knows how many of graphics. It would take an equally hideous length of time to sort out what’s really worth keeping.

  57. Techguy can hopefully recover hard drive, but the problem as IN the hard drive somewhere so nothing’s for sure. The kicker is that I’m getting my laptop for college soon, so I was getting ready to move all my photos to an external hard drive but then this HAD to happen x_x

The thing with dropbox or drop.io and other sites is that they cost money or vanish after a while >.< I've been working on a different photosite (not DA or DAportfolio) that allows to have photos in "storage" that might be useful for this sort of thing in the future, but uploading is painfully slow >.<

At least I didn't have any photos I was using for somethign other than myself at the time–I already stored all my friend's prom pictures (I took pictures of her and her boyfriend before prom so they wouldn't have to spend $30 on them) on a USB, so there's that at least.

  58. 113.1.1.2- I have one already, so thankfully I had a lot of my favourites saved, but I still lost a lot.

Update on situation in general: Still waiting for recovery place to tell us if they could get stuff out or not. Bluh.

Also, does anyone know about the photoediting program Apature? It’s slightly less money that real Photoshop I think, but I’ve never talked to anyone who uses it. I’m thinking about getting better photoediting software sometime this year…

    1. I don’t know anything about Aperture, but I do know that many professional photographers now prefer Adobe Lightroom over Photoshop for their photo processing. Among other virtues it apparently has a better, more comprehensive cataloging system as well as less clutter, since it’s dedicated to photography needs. It’s therefore considerably less expensive than PS yet incorporates the same Camera Raw software (which can now also be used with JPG and TIFF files, by the way). Also, both Lightroom and Photoshop are available in student editions, at a much lower cost than retail. You’ll have to look up whether the software is the same or not; companies differ in their policies.

I suggest you experiment with the free trials — although 30 days isn’t much time for such complex software, so it helps to know the basics before you try.

Have you looked at Photoshop.com? It’s a free site for editing, storing, and sharing photos. I haven’t looked at it in a long time, so I don’t know how much editing capability it has.

(I’m not trying to push Adobe by any means, their products just happen to be what I’m most familiar with these days.)

    1. Cool. It’s great, not too plain, though could be fancified. My suggestions- add leather trim. Especially to the wire connecting the clockface. If you want to make it fantasy steampunk, you could add pieces of gears sticking out of the hat. If it’s not too heavy, tarnished brass will work well.

      1. Leather on the wire connecting the belt to the clock? I did think the naked wood and wire there didn’t look the best.

  59. Hmm, I am trying out Sumo Paint, a free drawing program which is similar to Photoshop but of course much more basic. Sadly, it seems ill suited to spriting, but it is quite fun.

          2. Spending time on it does not count as wasting time on the computer. Tell your parents this, and say it is practice for your future career as a graphic artist.
          3. Using this newfound time, read and watch as many tutorials as possible. This was probably what helped me most.
          4. Using your time and new skills, use them! PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE!

  60. Just popping in to let those wondering know- we got our hard drive back last week! And our photos were recovered. I spent a good portion of friday moving them to the computer.

They’re the original files (unedited), so I lost some stuff but that’s so not a problem. I’m just thrilled to have the originals back. Years of work, saved! Phew.

    :D

    1. Congratulations! I’m so glad. And I bet your parents were glad to have their stuff, too. Now make backups pronto!

It’s always better to have salvaged the originals. Other factors aside, your editing skills will likely have improved in the meantime, so you can do a better job starting from scratch.

  61. 120.1- I will! Everything from the old hard drive came on a new external hard drive so we’ll keep that, and I plan to move them to my laptop and my personal (HUGE) external hard drive as well (seriously, a TERABYTE of space SO EXCITING).

And photoediting is something I enjoy as well, so at least I won’t be hating the work ^^

Speaking of photos, I need to get the pictures form the kokon onto the computer and sent in!

  66. Hi, all. I’ve just been through the past few visual arts threads and have been dazzled by some superior artwork. I haven’t time to comment on all the work right now, but I thought I’d let you know how beyond-fabulous I consider everything. Kudos, my friends.
