According to the U.S. Naval Observatory, winter officially begins today (Thursday, December 21) at 6:22 p.m. MuseBlog time (U.S. Central time, the time at Muse headquarters in Chicago). That’s 4:22 p.m. Pacific time, 5:22 p.m. Mountain time, and 7:22 p.m. Eastern time. In Switzerland, it’s 1:22 a.m. on Friday, December 22. In New Zealand, it’s 1:22 on Friday afternoon.

Hooray! And yet, it still WON’T SNOW!!!!!!!!
Happy Winter is at 7:22 for me Day!
I’m positive it won’t be a white Christmas here in Pittsburgh. But then again, it’s not winter yet! I still have a few hours before I get worried. Tee hee.
Speedy moderation! *sends pies and choklit to GAPAs – no matter who was the moderator*
I must apologize for the (possibly) double post. I would like to ask if Ruby Jewell intentionally posted under his/her alias or if it was a mistake. I would probably guess that she was The Sage, although I just guessed that Esmé was Tibs. Ah well. Anyone who comes here can get possible help from me, although it might not be right anyway.
I shouldn’t probably say this, because she’s PPanda’s friend, not mine, but I’ll just say this: PPanda, please tell everyone about Jessica’s coat thingy that involves the first day of winter. Alright, now everyone can probably guess what the coat thingy is, but oh well.
she doesn’t wear a coat on the first day of winter?
she only starts wearing coats on the first day of winter?
she wears coats up to the first day of winter, then stops?
Happy Winter, everybody!
Yay!! Happy winter!! Oh, does anyone know what day the solstice is on? I was just wondering that.
It drizzled all day yesterday and the grass is squeaky now here. Some winter.
Ze solstice is today.
Oops. *smacks forehead* It’s in the thread description. Never mind. And I meant what time… sort of. Anyway, thank you.
Eastern Time. Not winter yet. -grumpf-
The weather has not even considered the possibility of thinking about maybe pondering the idea of SNOWING. So, no snow.
w000000000000000000000t!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT SNOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
First snow today. I can’t believe it didn’t snow earlier since I live in the Midwestern part of the country, I was afraid it wasn’t going to snow at all until after Christmas. That would’ve been terrible. The snow came down in HUGE chunks. My friend came over and we tried to catch them with our tongues. I got one in my eye. It was COLD! Brrrrrrr!!!!!!! Brbrbrbrbrbrrbrrrrr!!!!! When we got inside I lit some candles and we watched spongebob, and drank cocoa. Yes, today was very filling on my part. Until I watched that CREEPY muffin vidio on youtube. *shivers*
I’ve beeen lurking. My darn computer isn’t working very well. I t’s starting to get very cloudy here. I ♥ winter. It’s been about 50-60 degrees for the past week or so.
Um, this doesn’t really have anything to do with the Solstice per SAY — although I am asking this question upon that hallowed day… Which leads me to my question: Does anybody know why J.K.Rowling is saying “… Deathly HALLOWS” and not “HOLLOWS.” And for the life of me I can’t find Hallow as a noun anywhere — and I’M a LIBRARIAN.
So, I thought, THIS is something Musebloggers would know. Ideas?
oops. actually. er
I realized I didn’t check The Oxford English Dictionary… (dOH) — and there is such a thing as “hallows” — in plural, it’s “applied to the shrines or relics of saints; the gods of the heathen or their shrines.”
OR it’s the loud yip people make to get dogs excited about chasing … something
OR it’s the piece of bunny (wah!) given to the dog to make it chase or be glad it chased.
so. I guess I still don’t get it.
It’s not cold enough here yet. I forgot to bring my sweater to school today. I did remember my coat, but the teacher’s don’t let me wear it in class *grumps*. Also it’s so bulky I can’t write comfortably. So I wore my friend’s coat for the first half of band. Does my logic make any sense? I thought not. Warm fuzzy shearling! Is that pronounced shear ling or sher ling? I’m to lazy to look it up, despite my love of the dictionary. And then I would have to decipher the pronunciation guide. Bah!
To the topic: I’m in Eastern time so it’s not winter yet. I need to go practice my violin. I didn’t do enough yesterday, so I have to make up for it today. I’ll probably still be practicing when 7:22 rolls around and miss my oppurtunity to go outside and throw snowballs of non-existent snow.
I can’t believe that it’s only winter now. It’s felt like winter since November where I live!
i have no school 2-day
ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha !!!!!!!!
anyway it did snow a while ago (not today, in nov.) but now it is 59 degrees. it stinks
ah well heres a imaginary snow pie to y’all

Y’ALL!!!!!! My dad’s from texas so he knows all about that.
Happy solstice! there’s (finally!) snow here!
Happy solstice!
no more skool tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!
yes!!!
freedom!!
I celebrated the winter solstice this morning. I skipped around in circles on my driveway while waiting for the bus in 25 degree weather while singing ‘The wintersolstice is here, the winter solstice is here, the shortest day of the year is here.’
Yesterday was my brother’s birthday. He’s 7. I started a timer and screamed really loud at 6:22. We were in the car and my mom told me to shut up because I sounded like an idiot. I think thta might be natural for me. Hee hee.
It was my mom’s birthday yesterday!!! On the Winter Solstice…woot.
I made my family presents.
Picture frames for my dad and grandpa, and bracelets for my mom and grandma!
13 – PLEASEPLEASEPLEASE take the comment somewhere else. I tell you, some people are too lazy even to change threads. And you have been warned my PoPoPo #2. Just for the record.
23 – That rocks and a day. Cooleo.
We don’t get snow in England any more. Just fog. Lots of fog. Not thick, impenetrable Dickensian fog laden with coal-derived carcinogens and malice. It’s white, wispy, apologetic stuff that drifts aimlessly around, sighing. It’s quite romantic if you’re in the right mood, and it’s thick enough to close Heathrow for three days, which lots of Christmas travellers are really happy about. I think there must still be malign manifestations emanting from the Solstice. It’s either that or global warming, but the latter isn’t as creepy, somehow.
26 – That’s beautiful. And quite eerie. I’ve always loved the way fog worked. How you can see through it to a certain extent, depending on how thick it is, but when you look out, there’s nothing.
Well, Christmas is only a few days away, and on a normal year there would be about a foot of snow blanketing the front yard, but not now. The only white I’ve seen outside lately was fog so thick yesterday that I could barely see the tree in front of my window. I’m getting a little depressed here cuz I got this awesome snowboard last Christmas and haven’t been able to use it AT ALL!
Oh, and jumping back to an earlier post about Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, I was on MuggleNet awhile ago and someone looked it up. The entry had said something about the Veil betwen the Worlds beings at it’s thinnest on the Winter Solstice, and several people thought the next book would definently have something to do with the veul thingy Sirius fell through.
13- HALLOWS is a blessed land i think
yay it is officially winter whooooooooooooooooooooooot
no snow though awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
Not many have received much snow! It must be global warming. We haven’t gotten but a flake either.
AND YULE!!! YOOOOOOLE!!!
Happy Yule!!!!!!! I like to re-dig me old Pagan roots.
Gosh. It needs to snow. Bloody hell.
It has not snowed yet!!!! My sister and I are frantic- it must snow!!!! It has to! Please, please please!!!!
Sorry, but I really want it to snow. I was shocked at how many people don’t care if it snows or not. I love snow, in case you didn’t notice.
It’s been freakishly cold here. I laugh, because everyone loves to complain about how hot it is. Then we have a few days where it actually stays below 60 degrees all day long, which isn’t really even cold, and everyone’s like “What’s wrong with this place? It’s supposed to be warm!!”
*cries*
There was an article in the local newspaper today mentioning how close we are to breaking the record for longest time until snowfall. It was January 13, I think. I can’t wait that long!!! It’s always snowed by Christmas, as long as I can remember, even the year it snowed the 24th. I need it to at least drop below freezing in late December. Today, if I so chose, I could have walked around with no coat whatsoever in a tshirt with my arms exposed and not been cold. In New York. On December 23. This is a serious problem. It doesn’t sound much colder than TSN’s world, and that’s Arizona, or Texas, or someplace. I don’t know. Somewhere southwestish with cacti.
we had a loooooot of snow way back in Nov. … like 2 feet. Or 18 inches or somthing. We had to shovel our 500 foot driveway and the 40 foot one all by ourselveses… just me+VF+mom+dad. Our old plow guy moved and we didn’t get a new one in time. And now all the wundurfull white stuff is gone. Alllll of it. I have to content myself with the fuzzy channels on the TV instead (does anyone else just like sitting and watching those channels? Odd, I know, but hey, I mean, it’s museblog). *tragic sigh*
34- But it DID snow! Or at least at my house. Sometime in late November/early December we got half a millimeter on our deck
CHANCE OF SNOW AT MY HOUSE TONIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
yay
Lucky! Which state/country? I live in NY. No snow. Maybe rain tonight, though.
36-It doesn’t count unless you can touch the snow. I think I know when you mean, and at my house there was just enough to make a white veil over the driveway, but not enough that you could make an imprint into it. And there was no snow day.
I hate rain. When it’s warm and humid everything feels sticky. When it’s cold and humid, you can soak and freeze without the icy joy of snow. And rain after snow melts the snow.
Aww. I love rain. Well, I like the small fuzzy mist stuff and the big thunderstorms and heavy falls. Drizzle not so much.
Man, anyone remember that guy in HGttG who hated rain because he had never seen a sunny day in his life? Where ever he went it was raining, and he turned out to be a rain god that the clouds followed eveywhere? Oops, that was really off-topic. Sorry dear PoPoPoses. *sends Choklit*
40 – You always think that you’re more off-topic than you are. I must admit, it was a bit off topic… and I’ll take the choklit… *takes choklit* Ooh, look! It’s all dark! For that JS, I’ll send you some choklit. You sure know your way to a PoPoPo’s heart. *sends mini KitKat bar to Jadestone* Ooh, whoops….
hehe. Off topic. Sorry Kiki. And E~A. And FS, who seems to have forgotten his job. And Ebeth, who hasn’t. *Sends half of liffe-savings of choklit for fellow PoPoPos to share* JS, if that’s what rain made you think of, go ahead and say it. Just not too much stuff like that. Either that or twice as much choklit.
Hey, everyone! How about taking all the talk of snow to the Snow thread? Here, I’ll even give you a link:
https://musefanpage.com/blog/?p=561
*hopes that talk of snow will be carried to the truly appropriate thread*
I like snow. I’ve only seen snow stick once. It was a few years ago. I had made this awesome snowman and my brother had just gotten one of those fr00dy electric, kid-sized, John Deer tractor. And he *sob* *sniffle* RAN IT OVER! *gasp* Yep. Where I live, it rained ALL DAY yesterday and also on Christmas eve.
SM2K – where do you live?
It snows a TON here. I really like making Igloos and snowmen. It snowed even more when we lived in Boston. That was really fun.
Purple Panda- Texas. In a city full of Dr. Pepper and Jessica Simpson.
Still not snowing here. Rained on Christmas. Blaaaaaaah. *lies down and dies while waiting for snow to come*
Same here. Green Christmas for the fail. Looks like it’ll be a green New Year, too.
Same here. Not one lousy snowflake. How dissapointing.
that’s so sad! no snow?!?!? boo hoo hoo. We didn’t have a white Christmas either, but we usually do. I love snow! We went ice skating a few days ago. yay! sies! I love ice skating.
So do I, but I haven’t gone once this winter. Everyone’s so busy at this time of year, especially me, and nobody found time to take me. :(.
WHY CAN’T IT SNOW?!??!?!? Me likes da snow.
So do I . sniff.
29 – Sorry about that. I meant Winter Solstice not Hallows. Forgive me for my chronic stupidness.
49 – I’ve gone once, but my mom had gotten rid of my old skates and I had to rent out these really painful plastic ones. They were soooo uncomfy, and I still have scratches and scabs on my ankles where the plastic was poking through. Ouchie.
