  1. I remember that. I didn’t realize for a while that we could suggest titles. If I named this thread, Flamablamablous February would definitely be the name I would call it. :D

I dunno what to say…. Happy February, everyone!

  2. Happy Feb!

At school, again. Whoooo? Will be in this room for 2 hours straight. Was yelling at my friend for mixing up Star Trek and Star Wars. Hah, we’re nerds here.

And I don’t have much to talk about.

    Still don’t.

Physics tonight. Ahh, boredom. The math is beyond easy.

    Anyways.

Didn’t do my hw/lab for it, so that’s what will be going on after school tonight. So yeah…

I can so get it done.

  5. Could you get someone else to write the songs? Between the songs, after all, a musical is just a play. Maybe Juliette could offer some advice.

  6. I have algebra homework. Then Hebrew School, a.k.a. Torture with a capital T, then I shall play my awesome new guitar which I got yesterday! I know like six chords already. I want to learn a song in time for the talent show in May. Speaking of talent shows, today in P.E. we did the parachute just for fun. We did that mushroom thing where you lift it up and go under and sit on it? Well, we did that and we had a mini-talent show underneath. I sang a bit and Deja and Brianna did the splits and Matt, Theo (not my bro, the other Theo), and Michael did the Worm, and a Worm race. Then I did hopping around like a frog, and then Michael, Theo, and Matt put their shirts over their knees and hopped around and pretty soon everyone including yours truly was hopping around with their shirts over their knees. ‘Twas the funniest thing I’ve seen and/or done in a while.

You must know I live in Chicago by now, and you must know that the Bears are going to the Super Bowl. Well, my WHOLE DANG SCHOOL is obsessed with that. There are Bears cheers every morning on the intercom, Bears posters on the hall walls, and orange and blue crepe paper strung about the cafeteria! Smart people like me, who absolutely abhor football, are also forced to take part in these pointless festivities. There’s even going to be a Bears assembly and pep rally tomorrow in the auditorium! And we have to wear orange and blue, and we have to make these stupid little shirts with numbers and our last names on them. Of course, I’m doing forty-two, but I mean, COME ON!

  7. Allegra (Kiki) – I know what you mean! The Steelers, from Pittsburgh, where I live, won the superbowl last year, and the city was so excited that we had a 2 HOUR DELAY the day after the super bowl. (I think it was because they didn’t think they would have any bus drivers who would show up for work, but…)

ducklover, how big is cricket in New Zealand?
Cause I always found it funny that in Australia (where I go every few years), 2 of the really big sports are cricket and rugby, one of which is the most long, slow, dry games imaginable, the other of which is so intense and violent it brings to mind the words “gladitorial games”.

Ughhhh. I have to go play at pep band tonight. So boring.

  23. (7) how could you not like music?! Eeeeeeeeeeeeek! You could write a musical about……hm……….3 kids trying to make it through a day of school. One of the kids is a cheerleader that is clueless about anything that goes on around her except, of coarse, her cheers. The other is a strange, random kid (kind of like me) who loves cheese, Muse, music, books, and random facts. The third kid is a new kid that knows nothing about the school and has no idea what they are getting into. Okay. Now you can write the plot.

  28. You think the movies are incredibly bad. Maybe you’d like to watch the play in London Daniel Radcliffe is starring in better. He will be playing the part of a young man with a religious erotic obsession with horses in the play Equus, and will be performing naked on stage. My mother has only been going on about this 24/7 recently. Saying ‘Harry Potter’s having sex with a horse, don’t you just want to go to England and watch it? i bet Abigail would want to watch it(a girl I know who is madly in love with DR)” And I”m like get a life already mom.

(In the Anchorage Daily News (no, this does not mean I live in Anchorage GAPA, so I’m not telling you where I live, most people in Alaska read the ADN, it’s pretty much a statewide paper.), it reads:

    Harry Potter–sans clothes

In images sure to disturb and/or severely titillate fantasy fans, D&D geeks and other fanatic fantasizers, the producers of a London production of “Equus” due to open Feb. 27, have unleashed some seriously sexy publicity shots of the play’s star, Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) himself. But this Harry, shown shirtless and even sans spectacles, is no longer a boy.

Peter Shaffer’s play, which is about a man who becomes sexually obsessed with horses, demands that the actor sheds all his vestments and (simulate) equine sex.

Producer David Pugh tells People he was “gobsmacked” to see 17-year-old Radcliffe “have a six-pack like that at his age.”

“He (has) turned into this swan.”)

According to my mother, she looked the play up on the internet, and DR’s character gets off on blinding horses (and blinds six of them) and also rides around on horses naked, getting turned on. (not my mother’s words, I made them a bit more suitable for possibly younger muse bloggers) She also said the play was written 30 years ago and was extremely controversial. (Gosh, I can’t imagine why. (that was sarcastic.))

  31. 36: Oh, just cuz I don’t like the hippest child’s books series right now I don’t have good taste in literature! And the HP books are like Jerry Bruckheimer movies, or supermodels. Appeal to the masses, but not very good. Harry Potter is -quite frankly- baaad. It’s amusing, but it’s filled with corruption of Norse, Roman and Greek mythology. It’s not high quality, it’s low, it get’s boring after a very short while, it’s annoying in its immaturity and debasing of Magic. Compare HP to Lovecraft, Tolkien, Sturluson, Ken Follett, Vonnegut, Asimov, Philip K. Dick, Giovanni Verga, Shakespeare, Fenoglio, et cetera, et cetera ad nauseum, and you’ll get a pretty good idea of what HP is

  33. (37),

That’s not an accurate description of what happens in Equus. It’s more like a mystery story, in which a psychiatrist tries to figure out what could have driven a boy to mutilate horses in such a horrible way. (Spoilers ahead.) He finds out that the boy didn’t blind them for fun. He went crazy after a girl taunted and humiliated him, and he blinded the horses because they were watching. It’s hard-hitting and disturbing, but not in a kinky, sensationalistic way. The play was made into a movie in 1977, with Richard Burton playing the psychiatrist.

  49. 4- Yeah, we’re nerds! I yelled at a friend the other day for thinking Monty Python was one person and for only listening to us quote Flying Circus in social studies and not seeing it.

Harry Potter I thought was good when I first read the first book, but now it seems childish and poorly written, no offense Luna!!! The later books are JKR trying to make them behave like actual teens, which she gets wrong and makes them way too emotional. Note that I want to get Book 7 the day it comes out, though. I don’t want to trash HP, just state my opinion.

Random popular music comment/rant: Why is White and Nerdy so popular? It’s becoming mainstream. Weird Al. Oh well. Celebrations will take over most of this weekend. Until 6pm Sunday, when I shall lurk in my room and hate football because my family will be ignoring me.
My birthday was once on SuperBowl Sunday. After we ate dinner, everyone rushed downstairs, drank beer and yelled like donkies. I was upstairs, flipping thorugh the books I had received but was not necessarily interested in, hating football. The one time a year I wan’t people to pay attention to me and it turns out a gorilla fight is more important than my birthday. I was so upset. It was a while ago, but I still am upsest about that.

This blizzard has been going since early this morning. I hope it won’t keep my friends from coming over…hasn’t stop the ever-intrepid mailman. Its beautiful, but I’m bored and people need to come over.

Personally, I think the later Harry Potter books are better. The characters aren’t as two-dimensional. He has all of those adolesent insecurities to accompany the evil he’s supposed to be battling. Haha.
I’m also getting tired of his heroism. That’s why I like Ron: he’s more of a coward/loser and so more realistic. Harry can get pretty annoying sometimes.
I’d like to read a Harry Potter story/book where he’s not victorious. It’d be like a sigh of relief. Although the Harry Potter series tells a pretty sweet story, the classic good-evil squabble is starting to bore me.

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  58. Pardon, I meant: the classic good-evil squabble where good wins every time. Its just evil strikes again and again and good just knocks them down each time. Evil is not dumb. Evil could take this fate-handling, pubescent boy easily. SO WHY DON’T THEY?! Then they could see if good could fight back again. Its just growing too predictable, like the James Bond movies: you KNOW he’ll succeed in his task AND still manage to have clean shirts despite gunshots in his chest, blow millions of dollars on luxery and pick up women for a quick one. Its BOND.
I know its defeating the point, but a classic good-evil squabble in these books would be a lot more interesting without Harry. How strong is good REALLY, when their dominence is dependent on one person?

i used to love the hp books but they are sort of boring now its like jk rowling has pressure on her to produce the books and is making them as fast as possible and therfore they are not so good, the 5th one for instance was awful…in my opinion but now i have to read the 7th just to find out what happens :I

But Luna…just because someone doesn’t take interest (or rather hates) the things you like, doesn’t me you immediately have to dislike them. Or hate the GAPAS for not posting your comment for that matter.

82- Kiss 106.1 ? Yeah, I don’t listen much to the radio these days. THey don’t have verily good songs.

  67. 36 – I definitely agree with 91 on this matter. That was utterly, completely un-muser-like. We are all musers here! Everyone should get to express their views without being attacked and hated. I, personally, like the Harry Potter books, but there is a lot of other good literature in the world and Harry Potter does not appeal to everyone. And hating the GAPAs for something they may potentially do isn’t nice either.

  68. No book drama, please! People have different tastes when it comes to a lot of things, and books are one of them. I happen to have been a Harry Potter fan for nearly a decade, but I still respect people who dislike it (except Laura Mallory). Likewise, I respect people who like things I don’t. There’s no point in battling it out. Maybe we need a Harry Potter thread, so Harry Potter can be discussed by fans and ignored by people who don’t like it? Just a thought.

    8 ~ Scary leet. @_@

10 ~ I play my dad’s guitar sometimes. It’s strung backwards, though, because he’s left handed.
Crazy football-mania. If that ever happens to me (it won’t, the New York teams suck, I think), I’ll wear a soccer jersey.
Glad to hear you’re wearing forty-two, though!

12 ~ Ohio State is the only football team I even sort of follow, since my dad’s from Ohio. I adore their marching band! I want to go to OSU just so I can play sousaphone in the band. I also like going to UMass hockey games (well, technically, I’ve been to one) because of the cheers and trash-talking.
    I love iSketch!

    19 ~ The commercials are great. :3

20 ~ My mom told me on Thursday. She’s the librarian at her school, and she always finds out this stuff (title, release date, etc.) and has it announced over the PA. My school is stupid and doesn’t do stuff like that.

37 ~ All I can say to that is Dx. I already knew about Equus and stuff but I hadn’t heard about the six-pack and everything.

57 ~ Wow, that won a Newberry? I loved that book.

69 ~ Have I mentioned how jealous I am that you got to take that test? I hate my school district. I’ll say more in the math geek thread.

    82 ~ I hate that station.

65 ~ Sarah and I were pretty shocked when we found out that our friends had never heard of Monty Python! My dad bought a boxed set of all the Flying Circus episodes. It rocks.

    86 ~ xD I like White and Nerdy. It’s like…my theme song.
We were going to see Dream Girls last week but my mom changed her mind at the last minute, unfortunately. :(

Whee. I’ve now learned that it’s not a good idea to not come online for a few days because it takes a long time to catch up…anyway, pizza time!

  74. I hath returned.

This week has been totally chaotic. I’ll try to sum it up.
    This week…

~ J and I broke up. Guess our personalities were really starting to clash (He’s an extreme introvert, I’m extremely hyperactive these days…You get the picture). We’re still friends…I think. At least he’s been acting like it. Which is good.

~ I might have actually scored higher than a C on my last bio test.

~ I’m doing this Italian song called Sebben Crudele for voice lessons. It’s such a pretty song.

~ J moved to another town. :( I don’t know if he misses me, but I’m starting to miss him a bit. For some reason.

~ Tabby and I went to the mall on Friday, and she taught me how to play DDR. I’m horrible at it right now, but it’s really fun, so I plan to get better at it. We met these weird guys at the mall, and Tabby obviously likes one of them. Tch…Oh well, they’re not really weird in a bad way.

~Then Tabby came over to my house to spend the night. We figured out that her friend Corey (Yet another Corey – I know several) lives in my neighborhood, so he came over. We played Super Smash Bros and Bad Fur Day until 12:30. Good times.

~ …And then I had to be at work at 9:30 in the morning. Bleh. Got in 7.5 hours today, though.

~ The weird guys from the mall decided to come + visit me at work. Obviously, they think I’m as interested in them as Tabby is…Augh…

~ I watched Employee of the Month. It was hi-larious!

140-I’m partial to Romeo and Juliet. I recommend the opera by Charles Gounod, Romeo et Juliette. You may like it better. No, seriously–you can tell what’s going on.

  107. (146, 147) Ah, the mysterious DAR. For one thing, members who have died qualify for nice little plaques on their grave sites which can then be replaced every few years when the lawnmowers grind them up sufficiently. No disrespect meant, as my mother, both grandmothers, and who knows how many acres of deceased relatives have been quietly bedeviling groundskeepers for decades.

Years ago I did some family-history research in the DAR archives in DC, which was great fun. They have books, documents, and records of all sorts, dealing both with genealogy and the era. In the membership archives I could look up the microfilms of my relatives’ actual applications. By then prospective members could no longer simply copy a relative’s papers from too far back, since not all the older claims could hold up to the scrutiny of modern research standards. (In order to join you have to be able to prove an ancestor took part in the Revolution.)

Other than that, I don’t know too much about it, and maybe some of its rules have changed. My mother didn’t get the bug to join until the last years of her life, so I never heard many details. A certain number of moms probably sign up in case their daughters later develop an interest. Anyway, if ever called upon to infiltrate the organization for any reason (in the interests of world domination or some such), my mother has paved the way.

My mother’s mother also belonged to a lesser known group called Colonial Dames. The name always gave me the giggles when I was a kid. I could picture the big Broadway dance number — South Pacific relocated to 17th-century Jamestown.

By the way, Queenie J, the Colonial Dames do have a Canadian chapter.

I don’t know if there is one where you live, but they’re scattered all over the country. It comes it different colours, too, but adapts to your hair colour (that’s why my hair wasn’t straight red– it shaded my natural hair colour). You mix it in with boiling water, wait for it to cool and apply it to your hair via a paintbrush or squeeze-bottle. Then leave it for about an hour or so (depending) with a plastic bag over your head. The stuff looks like an unappetizing mixture of pesto and…crap. Very weird, but pretty awesome.

  113. (148) Um, as the child of a teacher, I would have to say that teaching is possibly one of THE MOST demanding jobs. (Of course, I’m biased.) And you need to have a lot more schooling than what you’re teaching. You don’t necessarily have the same hours as the kids, depending on meetings and extra duties. Also, there’s always the matter of grading, and lesson plans, and etc etc. Plus kids are unpredictable (though apparently a joy to be around. Sometimes.) so you need to be on top of things; have control of the class, be able to handle situations etc.

    (160) What is henna?

Speaking of teachers, I feel really bad for one of mine! Every year since we’ve been in Middle School all of our A.I.G. English teachers have left for some reason or other. Everyone says that our grade is cursed. Well, our last one left after she had her baby (she did it extremely inconveniently but that’s another story) and we just got our new teacher yesterday. She is fresh from colledge. Need I say more? And here is an example of a kid in my class:

Math teacher: You guys are getting a new English teacher next week! She just came from colledge so……..
    Kid: Oooooooooooooooooooooooh! Is she HOT?!

Well, the very first class with her and I knew it was going to be a disastor! Her first speech is: “Good morning boys and girls! My name is _________. I think that literature, especially writing, is a wonderful way of expressing your feelings deep down inside! We’re going to have a wonderful rest of the year!”
Ouch! She has no idea what she is getting herself into! I even heard afew guys in the hall talking about the best way to run her off! Isn’t that awful?!

  118. NO SCHOOL!! For the SECOND DAY IN A ROW!!
    I CAN GET HOMEWORK DONE!
And I will laugh my pants off if school is closed again tomorrow. Or at least KPS.
Cos if that happens, we’ll only have a one-day school week! We get Friday off for development.
And I won’t have my English class that I usually spend all of Tuesday panicking about.
I was supposed to have a test tomorrow, but I doubt that’s going to happen cos we haven’t had time to review cos SCHOOL’S OUT!!

So I’m not completely breaking up this flow: my dad’s family has set in their minds that they’re related to Pocohantas. I actually wouldn’t be surprised, cos there was a man in our family named Pohatan and it was a family name. My mum set out to prove them wrong and she did. My aunt (by marriage) is related to George Washingon…
OH!! My favourite!! Our family has a direct bloodline to Jan Hus, founder of the Hussites of Bohemia (or “Heretics” of Bohemia, as Joan of Arc called them when she threatened to invade). My great-grandfather’s last name is Huss and he immigrated from Germany. We think his family was forced out of Bohemia at some point. Tell me that’s not pretty cool.
Ummm..other connections to interesting people…my friend’s cousin is Tea Leoni…both of my great-grandfathers worked for Henry Ford (though that’s interesting in itself, its not a very cheery subject. My grandma has never spoken about it to anyone)…Uh…apart from that, not much.

  119. 140- Shakespeare is love. You get more from it if you see the plays being preformed, though. If you’re reading them, its just not the same feel as watching it be preformed by people who already know what the characters are like, how their emotions influence their actions. Shakespeare was playwrite (spelling?), thus his works (sonnets excepted) are meant to be acted out. They weren’t intended as something you sit down to read, like a novel.

But you can get even more out of it if you’re preforming it…
As an actor, you have to study the script, find out what everything means and work with it. You have to put your own emotion into it and put yourself out there as the character.

You can tell I had loads of fun at Shakespeare camp over the summer. “MAAAAAAAAAAAACBETH!!” (I was Hecate and the First Murderer. Go long flowly black cloakes!)

  122. sorry to double post but okay, i just found actual ice INSIDE my bedroom window. IT IS SO COLD! (my room the attic of the old garage, meaning there is NO HEAT!) and im staying in my room because i cant stand the rest of my family right now. four days with the same two people stranded in the middle of nowhere (i live 20 minutes from the nearest town and civilization). AHHHHHHHH so im wearing a sweatshirt, winter vest, gloves, everything, inside my room. i hope we have school tomorrow so i dont freeze to death here. maybe ill go skiing now. bye!

  123. PurplishGlass – my room doesn’t have heat either! For the past few days I’ve been sleeping on a mattress in Anna (THF/P)’s room because it is too cold there. I have a space heater in there sometimes, but it doesn’t really work very well and it always blows circuits. So, mostly, when it’s so cold things freeze and frost, (basically, the entire winter), I sleep in Anna’s room.

  124. Hello, everyone. does anyone remember me? its probably a stupid question, but i have to ask it. its been nearly a year since i started museblogging and its been months since i last posted. i feel really guilty about not posting or even lurking, so i decided to come back for some randomized informative discussion of the sort that is always prevalent around here. We also had 4 snowdays this year, 2 this week and 2 in january. i could really get to like this kind of winter. And is anyone here planning on becoming a lawyer?

166 ~ Oh, I read that. Stephanie Meyer or something, unless that was another book…anyway, about the vampires, right?

Shakespeare is fun to act. I’ve never tried to read one of his plays though.

170–No, Twilight as in about vampires. Kinda strange, but in a good way. Im usually not into stuff like vampires at all, but all my friends love it and its new sequel, so im trying it. I’ve read the warriors one though i think (is it about cats?).
I love Shakespeare, though getting past the dialogue and understanding the plot is difficult, the stories are so cool. Not everyone dies though, in Twelfth Night and Midsummers Nights Dream no one dies (those are the only two ive been in though).

They did invent the blood eagle, but that’s better than crucifixion, which the Romans enjoyed a few centuries earlier. They were as brutal as most conquerors, really, but less efficient. They only half conquered Britain, so some of the history was written by the losers. That’s why the vikings got a particularly bad press.

Of course, she insisted that the prince was an arrogant, pompous jerk. First of all, we’ve only got one speech from him (We’re stiiiillllll on act 1) and nothing in what he says supports the charachter traits she picked out when looked at in context. When I pointed this out to her, she of course used a circular arguement that didn’t prove anything. Noting that I had cocked my head to the side and had given a sigh of exasperation, she found it necessary to point out to the class that I obviously did not agree with her. Such is my life.

  164. -deep breaths- Penty has has a very bad day and needs a jug.

…so she read Naruto badfic to cheer herself up because she is lame.

Penty hasn’t argued with a teacher lately, because she either likes them or is scared of them. But she has had three extrmeely stupid arguments in the last week, which she will proceed to tell you about because she can.

    1) In a terrorism seminar with a silly child who thought George Bush was a terrorist. Said silly child called her a Republican. OMGWTFBBQ. Anyone who has known Penty for any amount of time knows that she is not Republican. At all. Excuse her. Just because she doesn’t mindlessly bash Bush and slap any negative label onto him she can means she’s Republican? Apparently to be rational is now anti-anti-Administration. If this is the future of the Democratic Party, Penty will take her chances with being an independent.

    2) With the stupidest person in the world (not the above). Could be described as anti-Freudian, but that actually makes him sound like he gets his ideas from his head. He has decided that men ‘create’ because they cannot have children, and that for some reason they want to. Here follows the conversation, paraphrased:

PENTY: D00d, women create plenty of stuff besides babies.
D00D: But in history, men have always created more because they feel inadequate or something blah blah blah.
PENTY: -_-; No, men have created more because of nasty sexist attitudes and because there is only so much you can do with seventeen children. Besides, men have children too. That is why I have two parents.
D00D: But it is the actual act of childbirth…
PENTY: -_-;;;;;;; You want to have babies.
    D00D: Well, in a manner of speaking…
    PENTY: -dies-

I kid you not. Please tell me that rational males have some respect for women and do not think like this. Please.

  179. 222 & 233: Wow, this really has been a Frustrating Friday. I hope it gets better for you all this weekend!

My day was actually really weird…half of it was awesome, the other half sucked monkey butt.

    Good half (morning)…
(Yesterday, Dingo, Tabby and I made plans to play hide-and-seek in the auditorium during second and third hour today)
We went to the auditorium at the beginning of second hour. I found Crystal (Tabby’s little sister) and her BF, and Tabby, Corey, and this random kid came later. Dingo was supposed to show up, but he didn’t.
We turned off all the lights except for the red ones for awhile…then we turned off those and turned on the blue lights. Corey found this bouquet of fake flowers, and put them in the front of his pants.
Tabby and Me: “Let’s de-flower him!” XD
We never had a chance to start playing hide-and seek – After being in there for no more than half an hour, the drama teacher (who also leads the Thespian club…Now she must really hate me. :( ) told us to get out. We went outside, b/c there was nothing else to do. Then everyone went to third hour except for Tabby, Crystal, and me.
We ended up finding Dingo…who was high. He’s such a pansy when he’s high…it’s so funny. Last time he was high, we were walking by one of the abstract murals in F building, and he was like “Oh my gosh, it’s moving [pointing at wall]!” We walked by it again today. Me: “Hey Dingo, I think I just saw that red spot over there move.” Dingo: “Huh…It’s slightly pink…Aw, that’s not funny…” XD. I am so mean.

Bad half (afternoon): Last week, Mia and I had made plans to drive to HL (the town we used to live in) today. But her car got sick, so the plans fell through. But she thought she’d have her mom’s van today, so we just decided that we’d go to the mall instead…Well, her mom needed their van today. So, we thought we could just walk downtown after skool, wait until Matt got out of work, and then all three of us would take the bus to the mall. But alas, those plans fell through as well. So I went home and slept for four and a half hours. What a boring Friday.

  181. 220-My English teacher made me recite Jabberwocky to the class, forever showing to the world my status as a nerdy geek, and then made me identify the nouns, adjectives, verbs, and so on. Zarquon. Actually, I didn’t mind the prince so much. But I’m sure you know that I’m the best character. Ever. *jk*

229-Just know that when you’re an internationally known rock star, she’ll be kicking herself and you won’t be.

Ech. I’m a little sad. My teacher was mean at piano practice, my SS teacher basically called me a whore, I got in trouble for something I didn’t even do (miserable!), and last night I had to listen to my sister fighting with my parents and throwing a tantrum over not being allowed to go to an afterparty. Recently my mother’s brother died, and she got home late last night and was upset over that, understandably, and then my sister undid all my hard work in distracting her over two hours by throwing a hissy fit. “You’re ruining my life!” And I have been eating too much over the last few days because I’m depressed and upset, so now I’m fat, which makes it worse. In addition to this, Valentine’s Day is coming up, and this is exponentially depressing due to the fact that, to make a long story short, my two friends at school will be spending it with their respective boyfriends, yay for them, I’ll be left eating lunch. Alone.

I also found out that as a captain, non-Boat Captains are expected to call me ‘Sir,’ which is odd because I’m a girl. I kind of like it, though. I’m not a transvestite, but it’s cool to have people call me ‘Captain, sir,’ because it just is. Again, it makes me seem like a neuter, and that’s kind of bad.

  186. 227-A lot of my friends come to me for advice, especially on relationships, and the thing I end up telling them most often is: be honest. Not just with her, but with yourself. Whatever you do, don’t let your emotions get in the way of your thinking. Ask yourself, how much do you really like this girl? If you guys were to go out, how long would the relationship last? How long can you and her talk on the phone, without it being anything about your half-relationship, or anything like that (that’s important, as it says how strong your friendship is, rather than just how much you like each other)? And keep your feet on the ground when you’re asking these questions. Remember to be honest. Also, I know this because I’ve done it before, not gonna lie: there are some girls who like the idea of a guy liking them, even if they have a boyfriend. It still matters to them what other guys think. Now, that’s either a sign of insecurity or of how much she really likes her bf, but either way, it might not be a good relationship idea. The reason I say this is because she said you guys would be “friends for now”…that usually means that she’s not ready to make a decision. Yes, I know you’re thinking “well, duh!”, but one of the reasons she’s not ready to make a decision is because she likes the idea that you like her, but is not sure if she wants it to be “that serious”…in other words, she might just be stringing you along. Now, I don’t know her, or anything like that (and I also, for the record, have only strung someone along once, and am not proud of it), so take this how you will. But, you asked for advice, and I gave it, and I wish you luck, whatever you choose to do.

Sarah and I had two events together, Rocks and Minerals and Heredity, and we were completely unprepared, but we think we did pretty well anyway. Then one girl couldn’t come, so I got her events at the last minute – Oceanography and Science Crime Busters. Luckily, I learned a bunch of the oceanography stuff in earth science, but for the crime one, my partner and I were completely clueless. Teresa and I were like, “Okay, let’s put some hydrochloric acid and iodine on this and see what happens…hm, that’s interesting. I think it’s table salt.” xD

@FS’s relationship problems- I was actually in a similar situation at the beginning of the year, where I liked a guy with a girlfriend (a lot) and he liked me. What worked for me, at least, was sort of a ‘let’s just be friends’ attitude, but that sounds like it might not be the best option in your case. (By the way, this guy and I are still friends and it’s less awkward than you may think.) I agree with Shadowkat: be honest both with this girl and yourself about how you feel. Starting off as friends may work out better, because it means you’ll get to see her and talk to her more often and have a better chance of figuring something out, whatever that something may be. I do disagree with Shadowkat on one point: if she’s admitted she likes you, I don’t think she’s stringing you along. If she were, she’d probably dance around with the idea that possibly there’s some mutual attraction going on here, and/or use her boyfriend as a shield. From what you’ve told us, she’s doing neither.

Frankly, thoughts and fantasies of emails from friends and of my new less-than-a-week MB obsession got me through camp. I don’t think it’s worth it to go back this year. Anyway, off my tangent. Also, I can stop time for the MB so I get enough sleep and stay caught up on threads. And I have all my friends’ emails, and they check them, and the guy I kind of guess I like feels the same way (or at least I can get “best friends” after a year when all Geoffrey’s little sister has to do is be small and cute and walk up to him for that *bitterness*), and we all stand around in the hyper saturated colorful world talking. At school, I am getting above an 80 in tech at least, and I have a fun italian class, and I’m not missing one day a week in February for field trips, and I know what’s going on, and I’m basically omnipotent but without all that responsibility, and school is challenging but not hard and it’s interesting, and people actually recognize the music I listen to, like TMBG and Tom Lehrer, at school, and I can take electronics to school without worrying that they’ll be stolen and thus not bringing them. [aka, Capt. Obvious.]

Happy 42nd day of the year. So how’s life, all?

    Mine is strange indeed.

Tomorrow starts the PSSA testing. In writing. Piece of cake. If you don’t score proficient or advanced, you don’t graduate. I’m not worried. About the PSSAs, anyway. About the fact that they’re during my AP chem class…..*SHC*

I went bowling with a friend of mine yesterday…that guy I’ve been hanging out with. He killed me. Then again, I was expecting that. You don’t want to see me bowl. Then we got food, went to Wal-Mart [where we made fun of the movie selection] and then the mall [where we went in Waldenbooks and put the “Bibles” sign into the fiction section]. Then the weirdness begins.
    Okay, background:
We talk pretty much all the time online, but, like, almost never in person. Because we’re both very geeky and awkward. And we make jokes about how weird it would be if we were dating. We also have hung out one-on-one a few times. Which is always awkward and….awkward. He’s referring to such events as “go out and do something days/nights.” Mehhhhh.
So anyway, on the way home, he’s like “Semi-awkward question: would you mind if I tried for a hug when we get to your place?” To make a long story short, yeah, I hugged him. I’m not a very huggy person.
So then SM gets a really stupid idea. She already knows that she’ll be watching Labyrinth [BOWIE!] and was going to do so yesterday, because she’d be alone to do so and no one would have to put up with her Bowie-fangirl-ness. But she never got around to it. And was going to watch it yesterday, when, unfortunately, her entire family was home.
Back to the stupid idea part. She feels bad for this guy because its -53484 outside and is like “Uhh…do you want to come inside or something?” Unfortunately, he does. Then SM’s mom tells him to stay and watch the movie. So he does. And if you’ve ever seen it…
Bowie [♥ ♥ ♥] plus muppets, basically. Directed by Lucas, screenplay by Terry Jones. ‘Nuff said. SM has weird taste in movies.
And it was more awkward. Joy.
So the movie ended with me laughing hysterically and everyone else making the o_O face. And everyone starts talking. He stayed for another hour after the bloody thing ended.
My family is very weird. And likes telling embarrass-SM stories. Take it from that.
    *SHC times 9843836861*
Well, now that I’ve managed to permanently weird him out…

    Uhh. What else?

I made a pink duct tape wallet. NEON pink. Not sure if I’m really a neon pink person, but whatever. Actually, I made two, but the first was a prototype and it didn’t come out very well.
    Hence.
    I count it as one.

I got a 99 on my Eeengleesh writing assignment. Why? because I inadvertently wrote asses instead of assess. I thought it was funny. Actually, I didn’t know until the girl sitting behind me told me that that was what I had written. Then we laughed. Whoops. I can just see my teacher’s face when she was grading that….

And I visited my awesome Spanish teacher the other day this week! Yay fun! I miss that class.

SM also loooooooooooves art class. It’s so fun. Art, and the cool people in it. YAY. One of my table-friends is also a H2G2 fan. And a Bowie fan. So it kinda pwns. Hard. And SM loves art itself…so…

And she’s been going on an art spree lately. Still need to get out that scanner. Am painting a really cool design on a tote bag. Yay, fabric paints. I love mine to death.

I implore you, please don’t think to hard about the fact that SM is talking half in third and half in first person.

I also love David Bowie to death. xDxD

okay, so my very very best friend from kung-fu, Elizabeth, really likes this guy Alex, who also likes her but is too shy. and she made him a valentine for the 14th, and she’s going to ask him to their valentine’s day dance, but i thought it would be bad if she gave him a card and he didn’t give her one, because even though he likes her that’s not exactly the way guys think, you know? so i stole his phone number from her sister katie, and called him! gah! and i almost ruined it from the start because his mom picked up and asked “may i tell him who’s calling?” and i was like “um……. um……. tell him its elizabeth” so he was totally freaked out because i don’t know him or anything, i didn’t even tell him my name, just said “elizabeth’s friend from kung-fu who doesn’t go to your skool” and then i asked him if he liked her and he just said “well she’s my good friend” and all that but i kept pestering him and he finally said yes, so i told him to make her a valentine and ask her to the dance. and he was still totally freaked out and such. and then i finished by telling him “remember… we’re both black belts.” and then i called elizabeth becuase even though she didn’t know i’d called him before this i had to tell her what he said. and then she got all happy-giggly-squealy and i felt so nice, like you know, a modern day St. Valentine bringing people together… so anyway if things go well with them on monday then our other kung-fu friend Sydney will call him too and remind him to make her a valentine and such… this is so freaky! :D

I did that asses/assess thing on my DARE essay in fifth grade. Luckily my dad caught it before I handed it in. xD But every week in English class we have a spelling list and we have to write a story/paragraph with the words, and the teacher grades them, but they go in the grade book as 100 anyway. I’m a fairly good writer (the first to admit I’m not awesome, though) but not once have I actually gotten 100! There’s always at least one little thing, like an extra comma, or I put the words in the wrong order, so my grades range from 95-100 for the most part.

  206. 270: meditation…. hmm. i got into that for a while. in kung-fu we do it at the end of every class.
basically you start with your feet together and your hands down in front of you, with your dominant hand on top -left for me- and your palms facing up. then, breathe in and bring your arms up at your sides so they kind of make a circle, then touch your fingertips over your head. you rise up onto your toes when you go up. then come back down the same way, til your hands are in front again. when you go down, bend your knees. repeat. breathe in through your nose on the way up, and out coming down. when you are sufficently calm, you finish by bringing your hands up through your center, breathing in, until they get up about to your chest. then you turn them palm-down and push them down, stepping apart into a feet-shoulder-width stance as you breathe out forcefully. this concentrates your energy into your center, then lets it out into the ground.
    which is good.

homecoming dramaness, wewt. Sydney came back for it! that was kewl. MC Hewwit, peter the freshie, josh peters, bill, phil, hunter and i played go fish and crazy eights with the cards danny brought. josh peters had these sweet flashlight/laser pointer/magnet things. he’s selling them and i’m totally buying one. he said he was the random red dot at the assembly a few days ago. it’s great because you can be like “no, it’s a flashlight, look!” anyway, then we stood around and watched people inhale helium. josh started it, but he only did like 2. Peter the freshie went crazy with them. later he’s like “well, i think i’m finally off balloons. Namely because i can’t find any more.” i didn’t try it, but i did steal one of the little weight things. we unwrapped one but it was just concrete. the wrapping was really shiny though. I named it fred. I felt slightly bad for cheating on the wall (who was my lover for the first part of the dance) but then matt started stroking it and saying they were together now. So i screamed at the wall a bit (How could you do this to me?! I thought you loved me!) and then just danced with fred instead. You know you’re cool when you go into homecoming and come out with a bf who’s also a pet rock. monica is still determined to “girlify” me, and demanded a shorter skirt for next time. Tory was overdramatic, as usual, and apparently likes matt again. but mc likes lizzy anyway, and if he went out with tory again she’d just leave him for jacob again. Oh, dan’s friend lexii made a pic of jacob with hamsters for eyebrows. XD it was hilarious. well, there’s this kid named Justin. he goes to my church, youth group, and is in my ski lesson. he’s my age too. he’s really funny, we both have the same sense of humor and we like getting even with each other. (REVENGE!!!! lol) anyways, it was about the third ski lesson that i’d had and we were on the ski lift. so then our instructor, mike (who is a complete daredevil, I must say), says, “Justin, don’t you want to tell her (meaning me) what you told me last lesson?” he’s just like, “huh?” and then mike said, “you told me that you liked her!” and the whole time i’m just sitting there really quiet like. then, Justin said that he had a girlfriend already. and i’m just sitting there still all quiet like. then we got off the ski lift and continued on our way as if nothing had happened. we were still talking and such. but after that, whenever i saw him at youth group, he wouldn’t talk to me. and i got really sad because he was my friend *imagine that I said friend in the Tweety voice*… then, this weekend, we went to a youth retreat (AWESOMENESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!). again, wouldn’t talk that much. but then, i started talking to him and he warmed up to me (you know that’s an expression. an EXPRESSION) and started talking. so then, we were sledding (yesterday) and then we were standing there. he turned around to look at the boys that were playing football and i picked up snow (we were in the mountains) and put it down his shirt/jacket. then we had a snow war (throwing chunks of snow at each other and such. fun fun fun. then we shoved snow down our pastor’s back. hehe… not the smartest idea we’ve ever had… he chased us… okay so he chased Justin. i hid behind my friend rachel. anyways, then we were laughing and talking for the rest of the time that he stayed outside. then he went in and i went down to the frozen (yes frozen! YAY!!!) lake with Rachel. then we went in to check on my friend Marisa who was sleeping (how she was still sleeping at 1pm in the afternoon, i don’t know). then rachel took a nap and i tried ice skating in ice hockey skates. not fun. the ice was really really bumpy. neh. anyways, then it was around 4pm and Marisa, Rachel, and I went outside again to go snow tubing down the hill. however, we had to demolish the humongous jumps because like 5 people had gotten hurt earlier. anyways, Justin and some other kid go down to demolish the jumps. they’re almost done but they’re arguing and stuff so I go down there with Brittany (who i think is Justin’s sister) to “help”. basically i stood there for a few moments until Justin (who had a shovel) used the shovel to dump snow on me. Then I kicked him really hard in the leg and then (revenge part… we both like revenge… hehe…) he was like, “you’re gonna get it now!” and i laughed because he’s kinda short so… but then i was standing and he tried to tackle me (didn’t work) so he grabbed my ankles and i fell down being the coordinated person that I am. then we started wrestling on the ground until i threatened to bite him. then he got off. so then the jumps were demolished and we were going down on the tubes which was really really fun. then my friend rachel went down and hurt herself (how, i don’t know) so i went down and we helped her up the hill. then i raced back to get her gloves lying on the ground and walked up with Justin who was carrying an inner tube and the other kid whose name i can’t remember. then the other kid is like “i’m going to go down a last time even if i only have to go halfway.” and Justin said, “so am I.” then I say “okay, don’t die!” (me being the supportive person I am). then the other kid goes down and Justin’s like “sucker!” and runs up the hill with me. we dumped the inner tubes in front of the cabin that they were normally in and left them for the other kid to get. (nice people that we are) and we then raced up to rachel and gave her the gloves. soooo (yes i know, i can hear you guys complaining… get over it) later rachel steals Justin’s hat (no wait, i think this was before the tubing… yes, actually it was. oh well.) and they get a wrestling match on the ground. it was really funny. i was laughing really hard because rachel was trying to dump snow down Justin’s shirt at the same time. anyways to cut things short, i saw him today in church and he kept looking at me. like the short sneaky glances. and here’s my stupid problem. i think i like him now. but he said he had a girlfriend! and i like him. i’m an idiot. IDIOT. someone slap me… i need a hug… i’m really really stupid…
okay, i’m gonna go now. byes! i have to eat dinner… be back later!

  212. i just saw peter pan (the musical) and a lot of the actors when they flew they got messed up and thier feet got stuck in the strings (while flipping upsidedown) or they swung offstage aand in the wrong direction

also the fire alarm went off in the middle of it because of the smoke from the smoke machine.

    overall it was pretty good

  213. Why are we talking about relationships? ah well…. Don’t have a boyfriend don’t plan to for a year or so, but that’s proving harder than it sounds cuz’ I look 2-3 years older than I am. ( I’m barely 12 but People usually think I’m 14 or 15. freakyness).

I should be doing homework now…. *wanders off*

  214. (264) I don’t even know. They spelled it “Malace Mizer” three times in a row. I’m not even a FAN of theirs and I knew. Argh.

Darn you people and your social lives that you have!!!1 I’m actually not concerned at all about Valentine’s Day. I’ll probably just watch Pride and Prejudice and cry a little bit inside. Or Kagen no Tsuki. That sounds good. Hiroki=♥

Maybe a thread for our thrilling personal lives should be made in honor of Valentine’s. Or something.

  215. 283 – where did you see it (was it professional or done by a school). My school did the musical Peter Pan last year…I was Peter Pan! *smiles*

I definitely think we need a new Poems&Songs thread…or at least get people to go to the old one. Because it is dying.

  217. 264- Of course! I’m currently in the midst of a general celebration for the five victories I and various teams I am on have accumulated over the past two weeks. Any and all MBers are welcome. If they choose to enter my mind and risk loss of sanity. Just pretend you’re here and you will be. :)

285-Sure. I will now complain online to many instead of just to Potato Chip. I just really really for once hope that nobody else I know is on MB. Usually I wish they were so we could talk about it, but if they knew what I thought… *embarrassing*

  219. 285 ~ I don’t have much of a social life either. And the part of my social life involving boys is nonexistent. I’m sure I could find plenty to complain about (mostly involving the previous sentence) in a personal life thread and spare you the exasperation of having to filter through it here… xD

So yeah, I’ll probably enjoy Valentine’s day as a normal day and sulk inwardly a little.
Actually the spelling bee is that day.
I totally forgot about the spelling bee. o.o
I hope no one really good is in it so it won’t matter that I forgot to study…

  220. I have sort of a social life at school…with other geeks, etc. But they aren’t real geeks…they are just nice to me and stuff. So I consider them really good friends in school, but outside of school I don’t really have any friends..my social life is here :D

  221. i don’t have a social life, per se. just with geeks. my “relationship issues” consist of trying to convince everybody that andy and i don’t like each other (weckstein started that i think) In eighth grade, it was trying to convince everybody that alex and i didn’t like each other. what is it with me and people automatically wanting to pair me up?

anyway, my friends are dramatic enough for even the most inane of soap operas. i don’t feel the need to add by liking random guys because i’m bored. XD

Sooooo I’m 6000 days old on Feb.20? That makes life all happy and better.

Yesterday I went to Jim Thorpe with a friend. That place is far off but fun. We got Chinese food with place mats that had TYPOs. So we folded them up and took them. Because everyone wants a typo-ed Chinese zodiac place mats. Durrh. xD

    PSSAs today. Suckage.

On the brighter side, I brought my math average up by a point and got highest honours. w00t. And my best grade? 98 in Gov’t. I only went to that class about once a week.

Am trying to convince my mother to let me do this cool thing called LARPing. I want to so bad. In costume. Aaaaah, it would pwn hard. But it’s over a weekend in this woodsy park by us and she thinks I’m going to be like eaten by a bear or something… Only about 20-30 show, but smaller groups are better. I’d have funnnnnnn.

Not sure what race to be. I said I would try being…well, basically, a snake/human, but their species pretty much contradicts my personality, so it would be rather difficult. Meh. Because I was between that and the bird/people [hmm, feathers vs scales…] and this person I was talking to who did it a few times suggested that, because there aren’t any at the moment. So I was like okay, I guess? I dunno if I can deal with only three fingers…….gloves………ack.

    Anyways, math hw.

    Okay, I’ll pass.

    Mehhhh.

Yeah, can’t bring myself to do math, probably not a good idea. Wonder what I got on Friday’s test…

I’d better get out of the view of the window. Meh, class.

Mondyays at school are FUN. Not.

  226. 296 – Okay, I’m not in a situruation like that, but my freind is. There’s this guy she used to be freinds with and still is but he now likes her, and the entire school knows. She wants to stay “just freinds” with him, but that isn’t working out. At dances she never says no when he asks her to dance, and everbody thinks that they’re going out. She says that she doesn’t like him, but I’m not sure. As her BFF, we have talked about how to fix that. I said that I should give her a picture of this one guy I’ve met to hang up in her locker and pretends it’s her boyfreind. She doesn’t want to offend the guy who likes her, so I’m guessing that he’ll eventually try to ask her out (for like, the I-do’t-know-how-many-enth time) and he’s going to be heartbroken anyways. :( If she wasn’t originally freinds with this dude, things would be a whole lot simpler. And I didn’t want to get involved with this, but she’s my bestest buddy! :( So yeah, I feel bad. Oh well.
303 – Haha! I was sick today, so I didn’t have to go to school! Yay!
294 – Lucky. I’ll probably have some really annoying person give me somthing and ask me out and I’ll either say no and make them feel really bad or say yes and make them feel really bad later. Blah. :( Oh well, maybe somebody I actually like will do that this year, however unlikely it seems.
284 – Yeah. People either say I look seventeen because of my poise or ten because of my height. *pouts* But the first things kindof nice cuz older guys are asking me which highschool I go to, and I’m not in highschool yet. :)
295 – I consider pretty much everyone here on MB as a freind. I have friends from school, from extracirricular activities, and from the states I used to live in. Social life and nerdom life do not always mix, so I am having a hard time keeping up with all mi amigas and still being awesomely nerdy. Oh well, both of them are a ton of fun.

  229. I am at school. Inference test. Bleurgh. Well, at least I’m done. Someone has chicken pox in my grade. Dunno why the teachers “aren’t allowed to tell” us who has it. Rawther steupid in my opinion. What, if we know who has it we get it too? It’s like when we have lice tests, nobody’s allowed to know the results of other people’s tests. Paranoid education system. *sticks tongue out* Er… I’ve always wanted to have a REALLY REALLY long post, like SM or somthing. But I don’t have enough to say! I just finished The Haunting of Alaizabel Cray, by Chris Woodings, the same guy who wrote Storm Theif, which pwnz. I’ve also just discovered the wonderful talent of clear tape to turn any piece of paper into a dry-erase surface. Awesome, dude. Have play rehearsal today. EEEEEEEK. *goes over lines in head fanatically* Yeah. I don’t even know what we’re doing today…. RUN AWAY!!!!!! j/k. If I really ran away from a rehearsal, I would be kicked out of the play. I can’t even get sick, because I’d miss a rehearsal! I really really REALLY REALLY REALLY hope I don’t get chicken pox. Because that certainly would not be good.

I have new LUSH stuff. Yessss. The Chicago shops are fed by the Toronto factory, so I was afraid it wouldn’t be that good, but it turns out it’s a fully-loaded store. With no STROKES hair mask. 231. I have Friday and Monday off. Plesae Wednesday for snow too!!!

In band we had a sub. We did a worksheet on Asian music. There was a pentatonic scale and I kept feeling like I was spelling it wrong. I spent the remainder of the time drawing HPB-ish shapes on my black band binder with white-out, then coloring them with my pink highlighter. Brian said they looked like bloated clothespins. Mark said they looked either like bunnies or like a fat peace sign with the two fingers held up. Robert said they looked like bunnies. I didn’t see anyone else I knew between band and Italian. There’s a reason I took earth science instead of art. I’m thinking of printing some.

  233. Friday and monday for us. no idea why. oh and i think tomorow’s a late day but i’m not sure.

bill and i have decided to apply KoL/Charlie the Unicorn/random comic strip characters to all the teachers. For featherstone we couldn’t decide bugbear or liopleurodan (MAGICAL). I asked him, but he didn’t know what either of those were. then bill looked up the wiki articles and we decided on the magical liopluridan because they swim and he tried to swim across the amazon or something once. that was an interesting story. anyway. we sort of tenatively decided chappelle was a baby gravy fairy. that’s as far as we’ve gotten. we contemplated messerly, but don’t really have anything for her yet.

re-read muse again yestiddy. spiffylicious. XD
