(4, 7, 14) Thanks! I used CorelDraw, Illustrator CS2, Xara Xtreme, and Photoshop CS2. Fortunately, I’d already created vector drawings of the Muses for the Muse Academy logo, though I adjusted their poses to fit into the heart box.
Everything was created “from scratch” except the waffle pattern of the box liner. For that I photographed the inside of a candy box (after assiduously consuming the contents myself — such are the sacrifices one makes for art) and used a section of it as the basis of a pattern fill.
Add 2 gigs’ worth of trial and error, and there you have it.
Photoshoppers (Penty, others?): do you make your own brushes? They’re incredibly addictive — and useful, too. I’ve made a whole set of Muses and HPBs. That’s what I used to stamp the “tablecloth” in the background. The ripples in the fabric consist of spiraled HPBs dimmed into shadows. (Many of the other 3D effects were created using layer styles.)
And now I’ll shut up before anyone begins to suspect I’m as obsessed as I actually am.
I have (well, had) a 30-day trial of Photoshop (I probably only have about 10 days left now), and it is so confusing! All I managed to do was take pictures of the muses and make them smaller/larger, and put them in pictures with all the MBers I have pictures of. I made a really cool picture of all the MBers and the muses in the FMP. But other than that it was completely and totally confuzzling and it made my brain hurt. Maybe that’s why I’m a Literary Arts major at my school (an arts high school) and not a Visual Arts major….
But those of you who do know how to do that incredibly difficult stuff, Congratulations!

17 (Lady Bunniful)- I have been known to make the occasional brush, when the need presents itself, though I end up making a lot of presets. (Speaking of which, I really need to make that blending brush sometime so I don’t keep having to guess at what I used the last time.)
18 (PP)- Is there anything specific you’d like to do but are having trouble with? Lady Bunniful would probably be able to help, and I might be. Otherwise, Photoshop for Dummies is made of win and actually quite helpful.

hypermoocow and Dot Keet, digital art incorporates many different skills from traditional art, and new capabilities are being developed all the time. So never count yourselves out.
Some forms of it are easy to use, but others require a lot of effort to master. The result is that people may think they’re bad at it, when they really only need the time to learn. Good instruction can make a huge difference. Unfortunately, that’s not always easy to come by, and too many manuals hinder rather than help.
