Random Dark Cloud suggested this topic: “My world history teacher seems to hate the internet and most other technology. Could we have a thread on the reliability of Wikipedia, Google and other search engines?”
Do those who live by Wikipedia die by Wikipedia? How do you look, what do you find, how do you judge? Where do you go from there? A hitchhiker’s guide on how not to be roadkill on the information superhighway. * (But say it without links, please.)
*a term which, of course, Wikipedia describes as “now obsolete”
Then there is also the whole facebook/myspace controversy. hmm… intersting topic!
I think that wikipedia is accurate because it gives you all these spoilers if something is inaccurate. you should always back it up with another source or two though.
LOL INTERNETS
I think Wikipedia is a great resource when you’re starting out a project. It gives a brief overview of a topic (sometimes more brief than others), so you get a general idea of what’s going on. Then you can look up the various components of your topic elsewhere, like on Google or in the library. I also like it because of the handy cross-links between pages. You can follow a trail of links and pick up a whole bunch of extra connections between ideas that you hadn’t even thought of before. (This is especially useful when you’re writing a long paper.)
Wikipedia is also useful when you’ve procrastinated and your unstarted 10-page research paper is due tomorrow.dammit, i didn’ get first post. anywys, here is a list of totally rocking sites:
Search Engines:
=Google
=Yahoo!
=MSN Search
=Dogpile (recommended)
=Ask.com
Info Sites
=Wikipedia (of course)
=Wiktionary (yep)
=Wikiquote (hmm…)
=Wikihow (enough with the wiki’s already!)
=Dictionary.com
=Thesaurus.com
=Encyclopedia.com
=Fact Monster
=(here’s a little something about Google. if u go to google, and type in ‘define:’ then the word you want to be defined, it’ll come up w/ all these definitions.)
Video/Computer Game Guides/Reviews
=ign.com
=gamespot.com
=onlinegamer.com
Just Plain Fr00dy Sites

=Addictinggames.com (viewer discretion advised)
=Miniclip Games
=toonamijetstream.com
=YouTube
=MySpace
=(what else?) MuseBlog
=StickDeath.com
=StickFight.com (this involves animated stick figures having fights)
squee! w00t!
but wiki is very reliable, yes. i find it especially helpful for catching up on the latest anime/manga, such as Naruto or Fullmetal Alchemist. there’s also tons of other wiki sites, too.
Wow, did the GAPAs have to check those sites (even though they aren’t links) to see if they’re okay? Poor GAPAs! Lots of work…
I don’t know much about the internet. The only reason I ever got here was that letter Kiki sent to Muse magazine. I had never even looked up anything about Muse.
Part of why I don’t know much about the internet is there’s only one computer in my house-and three people have to share it. Other than that, I guess I’m just too busy inventing make-believe stuff in make-believe worlds. Ah, well.
I like wikipedia. I especially like starting with any page I feel like and following interesting links. It can be quite time consuming and quite entertaining. Some wikis are better than others, though. This Might Be a Wiki (They Might Be Giants wikipedia, tmbw.net) is interesting and informative. I spend a lot of time there too. The West Wing Wiki (I only briefly encountered this, so I don’t have any more info or a URL)leaves something to be desired. I think Wikipedia’s generally true and very useful, and I use it to get a general background on topics I have to do projects on and I follow the external links to resources for projects.
I really like Wikipedia. Most of the information is very reliable, because there are moderators who check everything and make sure it’s true.
Google is definitely my favorite search engine, because I’ve learned many things about it that allows you to do many more things. It’s a calculator (for extremely difficult math problems, too!), dictionary, great search engine…the list goes on. It also has a lot of other cool programs.
The internet: serious business.
As far as WIkipedia goes, I think the accuracy of information varies from article to article: the more “studious” type articles I supose you could say ( history, math, science based, etc) are probabaly well researched. A good tip is to see if there are citations at the bottom. But for entries that are fandom based then you might get some people who are in it for the lulz and just edit stuff.
Everyone should switch to Firefox.
The reason a lot of teachers don’t like Wiki is that you can edit it yourself, and they think people go and put in wrong information for fun.
9- I agree. Firefox is the best.
My teachers never let us use Wikipedia, because they say that it’s unreliable.
9-w00t viva la revolution! Firefox and open source for all!
10-yes. i had fun doing that in science class. then the school’s ip got banned for vandalism. o vells. lol
4-lol. u sound just like me, four years ago. and sftd.com ? and stickpage? newgrounds? also, about the definition thing, it does that without typing in anything. a little box in the top right, by the ten biggillion results (0.0003574 seconds).
as for my favorite sites: well, only the not yet mentioned and probably unmentioned ones.
pirate bay!
dailymotion
serialz.to
stealthbot.net
keepvid
nationstates
peekvid
oops. WARNinG!!! ABOUT HALF OF THOSE SITeS ARE WAREZ SITeS.
1-Yeah…a lot of people think having a MySpace is practically asking to get abducted and murdered, but it all depends on how you use it.
My American government teacher thinks wikipedia is reliable and lets us use it as a source, but none of my other teachers seem to. I think wikipedia is reliable, but i do use other sources for papers and stuff. for personal research though, wikipedia is the only thing i ever use.
I think that Wikipedia is realiable because anything that isn’t sourced is taken down. It’s also great for finding information on uncommon subjects. I have an account on it and I edit occasionally, but usually only on articles that I’m interested. (Like LineRider)
Oh, yeah. Other sites I like:
-LineRider
-MuseBlog
-4kids TV
-Neopets
Before I heard about Museblog, I went on the computer for about fifteen minutes a day, max. Now, however…..
I think Wikipedia is a good and sometimes reliable source.
My technology teacher hates wikipedia, but he’s already decided that his two year old daughter will never be able to use any social website in his house. i don’t use wiki’s/internet sources for everything, but even the books i cite are online now. Isn’t something like 98.9% of everyting on wikipedia correct? Don’t ask where I got that number though.
Firefox! Ubuntu!
Like Penty said, Wikipedia is a good reference source to start out on. It often has links to other, more reliable, reference sites as well.
There are tons of other edit-yourself sites out there, like the BBC H2G2 site. It’s like wikipedia, a friend showed it to me the other day. Wiki’s usually reliable, but you have to take everything with a grain of salt, especially if it’s marked by one of those boxes saying “Some of the content may be biased, etc. ” On my links bar, I have Wikipedia, Google, Comcast, YouTube, Amazon, Edline, and the AIR website.
16- Neopets! I got hooked on Neopets, first time I discovered I had an addictive personality. In 4th grade. It was scary, I couldn’t sleep. Looking back, I laugh at what a dork I was. And am.
20-I mostly go there to chat nowadays, but I was pretty obsessed a few months ago. Now, though, my time is spent on MuseBlog and 4kids. xD
Oh, Neopets… I go on there occasionally to play a video game, but I haven’t been on in days.
My Global Studies teacher hates Wikipedia and won’t let us use it. My personal view: I like Wiki and find it immensly useful, but there’s a lot of things I wouldn’t suggest it for. It’s good for non-controversial, topics that are specific, for example, impressionist painting. No one is going to mess around with an article on impressionism jsut for fun, and the people who bother to write about it are going to be people who actually know about it.
It’s also good for colloquial kinds of things that haven’t yet reached the scholarly world. For example, the definition of “pwns”.
I generally wouldn’t use it for the biography of someone or the history of a countyr; there are other just as reachable sources that are more trustworthy.
An interesting thing to note is that a lot of the stuff on wikipedia is copied and pasted word for word from other websites.
My GS teacher did say one thing that I thought was really senseless. He won’t let us use any website that isn’t a .gov or .edu. What about .net? .org? and .com can be just fine, to, it’s not always for a commercial purpose, it’s just the domain name that some one purchased. Museblog, for example, is a .com but not a commercial website. And most scholarly organization’s websites are .orgs. He really irritates me because he just makes up mindless rules to follow and never thinks about anything.
(16) 4Kids……………………………..
……………………………..
(23) Actually, the “internet phenomenon” type things (read:meme) articles are kept intact just because it’s an epic fail to edit those. Like what is the point. But I understand what’s you’re saying in general, I agree with it.
Also, he’s probably just some nut who thinks that those sites are more secure. I suppose they could be, but to rule out other sites is ridonkulous. What a creep.
Web pages I like:
Pretty much all the pages of MuseFanPage (duh)
Google’s April Fools Web pages. Some of them are sort of dumb, but some are really funny!
That’s about it, considering my knowledge of the internet with current restrictions.
WAAHHHH!!! final fantasy ROX!! i just rented Crystal Chronicles, and it is teh most rocking game ever!! i have a question, though, and i thought you computer geeks (no offense) might know how to answer it. here goes: in the Mushroom Forest, you know htat huge viney monster? well, i can’t figure out how to beat it. i know i should use the Fire stone, and i’ve tried it, but it keeps killing me. BTW, how do u avoid it’s spellbinding circlish attack?

Try using the web forms of things that are actually published. Ex: the National Geographic website, CBC.CA website, etc. That usually helps.
Personally, I think that people exaggerate the unreliability of Wikipedia. Even if somebody does make something up, another person could edit that. Wilkipedia can also lock pages so only people with an account can edit, and only the most determined info-falsifiers would bother to make an account. Also, Wiki can block IP adresses. There. I think I said that pretty well. And a semi-random fact, on my last world history writing assignment, if anybody used Wiki, they would automatically get a 0.
24-What about 4kids?
25-Where’s the Google April Fools Day page? Can you get to it from Google?
26- Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm?
I just read an article in nature that says out of 42 articles, on for each Wikipedia and one for Encyclopedia Britannica, four mistakes were found in each. Wikipedia’s only flaw was horrible grammar and article structure.
i like using homework help secitons of websites because it is usually meant for kids and you dont have to go to dictionary.com every 5 words just to understand it
We were working on our environmental persuasive reports in computer lab, and the computer teacher came in and gave us a lecture on not using Wikipedia to get facts for your essay. I disagree. The Wiki-fiends will correct your mistake within an hour of you writing it. x)
32-much, much less. trust me. ive tried.
31-ummmm.
30- i read that too. twas in the new yorker.
wikis are teh pwn. all hail.
1-All my friends have myspaces but they are private, so no one can get on them. Except the administrators, that is. I dont know how reliable they are.
4-YOU FORGOT ALBINOBLACKSHEEP!!! ARGH!! *pies with albinoblacksheep pie*
9-I did switch but something happened and it got messed up and the fox got turned into a sundae and so now I cant use it. Or something like that.
16-OH YEA LINERIDER IS DA PWNAGE!!
My Views On Wiki: I love it. Some of the articles are uninformed, like the political ones, but mostly its great. I use it to get info on songs and artists and stuff like that. I used it for a report on Steven Spielberg once.
My Views On MySpace: Use with caution. Administrators can get on your site no matter how protected it is. JUST BE RESPONSIBLE. I dont go on MySpace when I dont have to. If you REALLY want your personal webpage ( ?? ) then go to Piczo or Xanga. Piczo is probably best.
My Views on YouTube: Dont get a username if you dont have to. You can see anything you want (cept stuff you really dont wanna see because thats blocked). You just cant download your own videos.
My Views on Google: Its okay. Most of the time. I use it as my homepage.
My Views on MuseBlog: DAH PWNAGE!!! (Just watch out for meanies like me lol)
29 – Click on “Press Office”. Then the press office will appear. Then, on the sidebar, which says “search this site”, type in “Google Tisp”. Then you should be able to get to the page from the results, and it has links to the previous April Fool’s pages buried somewhere in there.
Hope that helps!

I suggest (perhaps this should go on the Suggestions thread) the website projectcensored.org (I think that’s allowed seeing as its not a clickable link). It’s a really interesting alternate news source, and it certainly makes you question other stuff you read on the web. Seriously, go there and read some of the articles.
m-w.com- I think Merriam-Webster is a really goods dictionary, and I like eite slightly better than dictionary.com and thesaurus.com.
if any website says Wiki in front of it,it means that users can edit it. i think you all knew that but just checking! i love wikipedia! i am homeschooled so i don’t have arrogant teachers who tell you what sources you can/cannot use. i just have the next worse thing-parents.
I love Wikipedia. I have to say, when I want info on anything, I wiki it, not google it. I know anyone can edit it, but I trust it to be accurate because there’s so many thousands of people who generally care that it stays reliable.
I recently discovered Homestar Runner Wiki, and I have just one word: AMAZING.
hrwiki.org
(29) They mess up anime, that’s all.
(34) Piczo is inundated with ads. If someone wants their own site but doesn’t have a domain or sub-domain, I would say Freewebs is a much better alternative.
I will always plug radio.blog as an alternative to downloading music, since there’s a lot there to listen to.
new name! used 2 b Final Fantasy Fan.
37-I also use wordcentral.com because it’s specifically for kids and has most of the definitions too.
Oh yeah, and I also like Yahoo music.
THREAD RATING!!!!!!
This thread should usually be a B, but I guess it depends what sort of links the MAPs let through. At times it could be a C. :idea:40-Yea, I know. Freewebs is better than Piczo in terms of safety, but there’s not as much stuff you can do on it.
what is freewebs
45-Freewebs is a site where you can make your own site. Kind of like MySpace but alot safer. My friends freeweb is [Snip! –Robert.
(43) Spam.
(46) Actually, it’s not really that similar to MySpace. MySpace is a social networking site and has things set up for you already. If I remember correctly, Freewebs has a site helper thype thing, but you can switch to HTML mode and make your own website. I am bothered by people (not saying you did , but in general) thinking that having a MySpace is the same as having a website. There is nowhere near the same about of effort required, you don’t even need prior knowledge of HTML, CSS, or any other coding language to make one. I spend hours on my website, and let me tell you that it’s nothing like editing a profile. End rant.
47-I stand thoroughly corrected.
46-r O b e r t!!!
47-agreed. i’m far too lazy to learn actual html, but xanga, LJ, facebook, and especially myspace don’t count. (you people may have heard my myspace rant before…so i won’t bother…)
i love wiki, but if i’m using it for actual research, i usually fact-check it. Mostly because i’m one of those evil people that actually does write random articles about nonexistant things. *evil cackle*
we’re listing sites we like? ooh boy. well, RPGs of course, and the MB (duh, i’m here…), isketch (an online pictionary game with hilariously stupid people-ooh, digression. ok some guy was being an idiot and insulting everything around, going “that’s gay” (which URGDON’TUSEGAYASANINSULT first of all…) and so then other people started actually discussing gay rights and suchlike, and he comes out with HOMOSEXUALS ARE GAY!!! I was just like noo…really? it’s a huge joke now at skewl, because it was during one of the teamlatin games. anyhoo, ), webcomics (ctrl-alt-del, questionable content, xkcd, chasing the sunset, sheldon, sam and fuzzy, cyanide and happiness), some random boards (a neil gaiman board, this one, one for my skool, and sometimes i’ll make a comment on others and leave…), video places like abs and youtube (i’m not on youtube much though, rarely enough so i didn’t bother to make an account yet) and then my luvverly xanga and facebook. OH and KoL, can’t forget that.
I’m not a geek…*COUGHLIE*
Although actually i haven’t been to any of those places very often in the past…idk…ages. That creepy thing called a Life snuck up on me, especially the band geek part of it. Today was the first day this week i actually came home when school got out, and not like at 9, 9:30.
But yeah, double-triple-fourple check (woohoo chappelleisms) stuff on wiki. and yeah, they can block IPs…if they know it’s wrong…plus you could use a different comp (/network or whatevs if you’re at skewlios)
39-homestar runner wins at life
Right so just popped in to reassure everybody that i’m still alive and saw this thread. it brought out the inner geek. and all that good stuff. i’m off to bed to hopefully catch up on sleep, although i think i’d need about a year of constant slumber to make up for what i’ve lost…
toodlios!
(48) XDD Sorry Beavo! I just get all worked up about this, heh. ^^;;;
(50) Actually if you want to and with the proper materials, one can do quite a bit of html and the like on Livejournal. But I digress and akfjadkg I see your point, and it’s still not the same yeah.
I’m all over the place on the interwebz. Mostly though, Livejournal.
Yay Ebeth! It’s nice to see you around. I was wondering if you had possibly relapsed into Lurkosity.
Tha’ts really funny about the “homosexuals are gay” thing…
(people are such idiots sometimes)
Yay! i feel special. And no, i need to start lurking again a bit..i’m really far behind.
dad fixed the delete key on my keyboard now. before it was broken, so you could just lightly touch it and it would delete something. and of course as soon as i get used to that, he goes and fixes it. it’s like my spacebar, which is broken too-on other keyboards i’m always pounding on the spacebar wondering why it doesn’t work because i touched it and nothing happened.
If you want a good dictionary/encyclopedia site, you should go to thefreedictionary.com. It can search for a term in 5 types of dictionaries(regular, computing, medical, legal, and financial), a thesaurus, and 2 encyclopedias(Wiki(!) and Columbia. It also shows acronyms and idioms with that word or term.
me loves lurking but posting is fun too
my computer keyboard is just fine but thats cuz its fairly new cuz i spilled oj on it
51-Thats okay! *virtual pie exchange* Just wondering, I’ve been on since October of 06 and I STILL dont know what XD is! Please tellll meeee!
54-I’ll check it out!
55-Ohhh your parents are going to be pissed!!! lol I spilled Orange Juice on my keyboard once. I was grounded without mercy.
Final Fantasy still rox. *gets arrested*
Thank you for arresting yourself. you could just put your name as :Final Fantasy Rox:, and then post without putting it in the post. Then people would still see it but you would also post post normally.
I meant “Final Fantasy Rox, not :Final Fantasy Rox:
(56) -pies back- It’s a emoticon; if you look at it sideways it’s supposed to look like a laughing face. Like someone with their eyes scrunched up in laughter. Hahaha I overuse it.
39-wow! cool. strongbad is my hero. TROGDORRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!
56 nah. it was a few months ago but the keyboard is still new
>__
61-strongbad wins at life, but i have to say i really love homestar the most. *hugz homestar*
Ok so i have an online situation for you. Dan’s got this online friend that he met on gaia or someplace. So they exchanged phone #’s eventually, and they call each other all the time now. A lot of the time she’ll call when he’s hanging out with people, and he’ll put it on speaker so we can all talk. She’s also friended a lot of us on facebook So we’re all fairly good friends now, and she wants to meet us all at cedar point. (or dan does, i’m not sure who’s idea it was). What Would the Musebloggers Do? (i already pretty much know what i’m doing, but i’m interested to see who’d do what)
Could someone tell me where to start with Homestar Runner? I heard about it because they did a video for Experimental Film (and now here), but I don’t know where to go.
And if anyone can help with lvl15 of metariddle, I’d be greatly obliged.
Sites I visit:
MuseBlog
This Might Be a Wiki
MetaRiddle (since two days ago)
Wikipedia
other stuff I’m forgetting now
64-ahh!! i wouldnt go.
65-go to the site, look around.
60-Ohhh I knew that. I use : ) or : ( or : P or : D but I havent used XD… It kind of looks like someone screaming.
63-What the?
64-Go with an adult or learn karate. I would do both, but I’m already a Brown Belt. Spiffy.
My school’s librarians are on a crusade against Wikipedia. Why? Because another teacher found an article about some sports team that someone had posted all this random stuff on.
webcomix I like: xkcd, Irregular Webcomic, occasionally Otaku no Yen and Chasing the Sunset.
sites I like: MB (duh), Gaia, mental_floss, Mugglenet, Worth1000
feeds I subscribe to: Apple HotNews, Macworld
67-learn karate. LOL.
We aren’t allowed to use Wikipedia in research papers. We’re not allowed to use any other encyclopedias either, though.
71-Why not?
72- outdated/inaccurate information. I actually don’t think that wikipedia is a very good source in general, though – it’s great for getting overviews but it isn’t generally accepted as very reliable, and is often not specific enough. The same problem goes for print encyclopedias. Databases/individual websites/books on the specific subjects/abstracts are better sources.
Although the thing about only being able to use .gov websites is stupid, since I believe you can buy that domain ending, and it’s actually cheaper than .com.. I may be wrong, though.
and .gov wont be very helpful for some topics
64- If I went at all, I’d get an adult to come too. For safety or so,ething. But I’d probably ask everyone else on MB what they would do, and let that influence me.
50: When you say KOL do you mean AOL for kids?
(Maybe I’m dumb but that’s the only KOL I know)
65: First go to the site, and watch the animation “First time here?” It basically introduces the characters. I really like Strongbad Email (sbemail). Those can be watched in any order, but over the years Strongbad has had 3 computers, so the older ones look a little different.
[Information about another MBer snipped. –Robert]
My one tactic for not getting stalked is thus: No online dating. Period. Also no going on forums centered around that sort of thing.
I love wiki. I understand that there are articles that get deleted for inaccuracy, but I’ve never seen one. (no duh)
76-eww, no. (no offense to any AOL for kids lovers) i mean Kingdom of Loathing. It’s an RPG, and a freaking hilarious one at that.
78: Aha. I’ll have to check that out. I’m also a hater of Kid’s AOL, and from all the other sites you posted it didn’t seem like you would go on there.
Kingdom of Loathing’s awesome! Although, does this count as “questioning the net”?
I am sort-of happy right now. My best friend finally broke up with her boyfriend, who she met online, and who lived in Egypt. Did I mention that she never met him? Does this seem like a bad idea to anyone else?
9- Ugh. We have firefox, and I don’t like it, because of some weird techinical thing that stops us getting flash on it. My dad blames it on the people who haven’t gotten round to making a flash version that fits linux and firefox. Or something. He will never admit that there is a problem with having linux. I just dance around him chanting happily “Something’s wrong with linux, something’s wrong with linux, ha ha ha haha, somethings wrong with linux. And then he tells me to be quiet and and go to bed. Blah.
82-get wine, and run a windows firefox. then get all teh plugins.
lol i wish i had ur dad.
81-lol YES!
What the hack happened to my last post? It was very important! I’ll repost it later.
81-He’s probably a perv 50 year old man. My friend once thought she was talking to Jason Dolly. And killed me (well not really) for suggesting that it was NOT her obsession.
81- people these days. There is no proof he lived in Egypt, or that he was even reasonably close to her age. I agree, bad idea.
Wiki is love. They have an article on Pointy Hats.
82-there’s very little wrong with linux at least.
our school’s getting it! i’m so excited. we’re getting like 50 new comps in the library if nolan gets the grant
whats linux?
we have windows xp at school but i wish i had windows vista my friend has it and it is sooooooo cool
84-What the HACK? Do you mean heck?
89-linux-a os based on UNIX created by linus torvalds in 1991.It is issued under the gnu public liscis. It is free to use. becuse no one owns it distos give it a way.
umm. thats a veery limited description. linux is a free. open source operating system. there are huge quantities of versions, (or distributions. to name a few very popular, ubuntu, red hat, fedora.it can do awesome things, such as boot off a usb drive. to know more, wikipedia it. and if you want to try it, i would suggest ubuntu. using a bit of google, you can find out how to dual boot it. ubuntu is very easy. trust me.
92-yes ubuntu is neat
I think Wikipedia is somewhat reliable, but you shouldn’t bet your life on it’s facts.
Did I scare everybody away?
No, you didn’t. Weird how the PoPoPo are on a lot of the dead threads, isn’t it? It’ll stop you from cluttering up the recent comments, though.
Please someone post here!!!!
HAH!!! Today, I caught my world history teacher using Wiki. He says we can’t use it, and then he goes and uses it.
wow… is this thread dead? it seems like it would be an interesting topic. did you know that i have been able to blog from school for a couple of months and the filter still hasn’t blocked this site? talk about awesome…
99 – Yea, usually stuff like this is blocked for “chat”.
Me hates school filters.
Helloooo…*listens to echo*…Wow, this thread is dead…*echo*…I wish I had a laptop…*echo*…it would make my life a whole lot easier…*echo*…
This thread is still dead…meh…ftw
there’s a great site I found called lingo2word . com . It translates txt messaging phrases.
Even one with a broken screen. That’s what I’ve got, it’s 5 years old and the screen’s cracked. It’s annoying.
I’M NOT THE ONLY ONE TO POST HERE!!!! YAY!!! Anyways, any laptop is better than having to share a computer with my brother…the computer hogger during the school year…
PEOPLE!!! PLEASE COME BACK TO THIS THREAD!!!
Wikipedia is weird. I went to it’s article on Christianity a few days ago and it read “Christianity is a bunch of bulls**t and you are all going to hell lol wazzup elliot?”
Umm. if you type in religion into google, you get a bunch of creatoin theories. It’s entertainment.
Look up the Kokopelli article in Wiki! Or, don’t, at least not if you have a weak heart. *gross*
10 ~ My mom is a middle school librarian and one time some classes were in there researching Egypt or some other ancient civilization and she found that on the page for some ancient king someone had edited that he enjoyed playing a Nintendo Wii.
No one’s mentioned the now obsolete “miserable failure” Googlebomb where a search for “miserable failure” brought up a biography of the president. (This happened during the ’04 election – there were similar Googlebombs involving Kerry and waffles.)
Look at Google maps’ directions from New York to London. Read the ones in the twenties or so. I think twenty-three?
110- I read that….. wow.
110 – I know! That is so totally gross I can never look at Kokopelli the same way again!
HAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!????
Hi! *
again*
Hi.
11: All I got was, “We could not calculate driving directions between new york and london.”
oh its supposed to say swin across the atlantic ocean
Wow, this thread is DEAD!!
COME HERE! CLICK ON THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I must save it!
Hi. I’m here.
Threads don’t have to last forever, you know. Maybe this one has served its purpose.
Ooh! I’ll say something!
My Chemistry teacher lets us use Wikipedia as a source, because he says it’s more accurate than Brittanica. Which, I have no idea if it is, but he’s still awesome!!
And my World Cultures teacher lets us use it too. Yay!
Whoah. This thread is old. I got it when I searched for moi.
124- It’s old and dead, and has been dead for the past 30 comments! And half of those past 30 comments were me in various alter egos, saying how dead this thread is!
On the pointlessness scale, “dead thread” posts seem to me to rank right up (or down) there with “first post” posts. Am I missing something?
What else is there to say now? Should I even try to introduce a new topic(like the fact that my friend has another online boyfriend) on a thread that nobody goes on?
The “Dead Thread” posts are an attempt to get people on the recent comments sidebar to click on it and Un-Dead a thread.
(128) I see. I’m not sure they’re very effective, though. The best way would be to say something utterly fascinating, but that’s hard to do in the few words visible in “Recent Comments.”
Dude, my grandfather’s brother is on Wiki. If that tells you anything.
127-As in, a boyfriend she knew in realtime who is online, or an online boyfriend she doesn’t know in realtime?
Well, I came here…but not because of any “Dead Thread” posts.
So, what’re we talking about?
130- Online that she doesn’t know in real life. Who claims that he’s 19, and my friend is 14. This isn’t the first time she’s had an online boyfriend, though….
My English teacher said that Wiki had “nothing of value” on it, an exaggeration that annoyed me very much.
There is a Harry Potter Wiki, a Pirates o/t Caribbean wiki, an Artemis Fowl wiki, [afc wiki]…heck, i heart wikis
134-I found the Harry Potter wiki a while ago. I’ve used it so much I’m casting hexes in my sleep.
Last year, none of my teachers let us use Wikipedia, stating that it was “bad and evil.” But this year, both my Chemistry and my World Cultures teachers let us use it as a source!
we need a museblog wiki.
137- How do you create one?
I’m surprised Robert hasn’t jumped in here. He has deleted all sorts of pointless content Musers have posted about the blog, for the server kept destroying the post or something. I don’t do any wikipedia, but I can tell you if people put too much information in there after Robert kept cleaning it out, he will pie us into the ground if another is made
It really seems kind of pointless, I mean, who is going to bother to read about some strange thing called Muse Blog unless you put a color ad in the paper or something…
Red-tailed HAWK

Not at all. I could get some wiki software and start one on the Muse Fan Page, just as I did with the blog. It would be ideal for RRRs, “Who’s Here” lists, and universe building. I just haven’t gotten around to doing anything about it yet.
140-Oh, I wasn’t sure quite how you felt about people posting too much or something. But it’s understandable that you haven’t had any time to do anything about it yet!
Red-tailed HAWK

You must be thinking about the time an overzealous MBer posted too much information about the blog on Wikipedia, and I had to go there and edit it out. That was different: someone had tagged the article with a complaint, and I was afraid the whole thing would be deleted. That problem wouldn’t arise if we had a wiki of our own.
the only problum is that wiki software is huge. it would take up about a gigabite of space on the server, and then the GAPAs would have to pay more. but a least the software is free!
142-Ooohh…..my brain is working better today…so this would be our own thing on the blog that we could edit ourselves? Okay. I’m sorry, I just don’t know a lot when it comes to all of these internet tricks…
143-Urumhmmmm…..Yeah, how much space do the one thousand threads take up already, and then another thing.
And would it slow down general blog operation?
Would what we post on the editable page be moderated by a GAPA?
Red-tailed HAWK, Confused, not birdbrained

(144) Yes, any MuseWiki or MuseBlogWiki would be moderated. I’m not sure exactly how that works; posters might have to register. That adds another complication. We GAPAs are not fond of complications.
145- do any of the GAPAs have macs? I have wiki instroctions for a mac here somewere…
I’m ambicomputerous. I use a Mac at home and a Dell PC at the office. (I also operate my mouse left-handed at home and right-handed at the office, just for variety.)
147- O.k. i will try to find this…
I’m definitely not ambicomputerous. I can barely navigate my way around a PC – I can use the basic things, but it’s really confusing to me. I feel like an expert on a Mac, though. Especially in comparison to a PC.
I did get very good at using a mouse left-handed, though, since the USB ports are on the left-hand side of my computer, and the mouse cord doesn’t stretch far enough for it to reach all the way to the right side. I usually use the touch-pad mouse nowadays, though.
A MuseBlogWiki/MuseWiki sounds cool, though I don’t really know anything about Wikis. That is, I’m not completely sure what they are.
I want a Mac so bad.
So, so bad.
So bad it hurts.
I want a Mac!
*wants a Mac*
I have the instrations, but they are from a thing, so I will cheack the site and see if the thing is still up, after I museblog.
*wants a Mac, too*
*also wants a laptop*
Hey look. This thread is dead again. I don’t think it has any hopes of being revived at all.
I want a computor, in the first place.
Then maybe a laptop computor.
Then maybe a Mac laptop computor.
Then maybe a cell phoneI am in favor of a MuseWiki.
