Anyone know any sites about the Scopes Trial? I’m supposed to have been writing about that for social studies. I would’ve done it sooner if not for finding my sister’s stash of things I’d “lost” and getting angry. I’m leaving MuseBlog to work on it now anyway, so posting it won’t help, but I’ll try anyway. And the OMG-I-NEED-HELP-WITH-MY-HW threads haven’t been visited since September, if they were even open. I remember then. I was so naïve and young and new to MuseBlog. I can’t do my project later because later this week we’re at Washington. Unfortunately, I won’t get to visit Robert-gapa and Nature. And since I’ve just beeen there, I won’t be back for awhile. It’s great, Kiara! You’re right Robert. You can’t dwell on horrible things, though you shouldn’t just shrug them off either. Everytime the world seems like it’s going downhill fast, you should think of something good. Like the fact that Ben & Jerry’s is giving out free ice cream tomorrow (true!) or that you’re doing something to help the environment, etc. It’s a coping mechanism.

I found out about the shootings in bio today. It was really upsetting. Something like that happened at the university here two years ago, only it was just 2 people, not 32.

I have been researching tadpoles. Does anyone know if it’s possible to raise them in a closed ecosystem without interfering at all, for 5 weeks? I’m guessing all of mine will die. Poor little things.

Awwww. That’s sad. Both the shooting and the tadpoles. My sister did that with a caterpillar. She had her in a cage inside but the catrerpillar made a cacoon too early and hatched in the winter time. It was sad because we knew that she would die when we set her free.

Yeah, I found out about it at school yesterday. I don’t know anyone from that area (in person), but it’s such a scary scary thing to have happened.. We have lockdown drills occasionally at my school, but I was thinking about it, and really, they wouldn’t be effective if something actually did happen..
Also they found the body of my brother’s friend who disappeared in September.
There have been several pictures of the GAPAs posted on MB. PBJ has dozens of pictures of himself on his websites, and R&R have lots of pictures of themselves posted on various threads. But Rebecca is a mystery!

I really think there should be limits on who can buy a gun. I don’t exactly know what they would ask you if you wanted to buy one, but I don’t think it’s enough because we always hear about school shootings. Or, there should be laws about where to store your gun (out of kid’s reach, hidden, ect).

I would like to have a moment of silence to think about the soldiers in the middle east…but not just the American soldiers, but the opposition, as well…just because they come from what some consider a third-world country, doesn’t mean that their lives are worthless…just think about them, all of them…if you’re religious, pray to whatever deity you have…if you’re not, just hope and wish them well…and, if you’re feeling especially good (or even if you’re not)…think about everyone who’s died, including the people you don’t know…sometimes, you just need to remember.

128 ~ Yeah, for the honor society induction, one thing is a moment of silence for US troops in Iraq and Afghanistan or something like that, but what about the scores of civilians in Iraq who die every day? There’s so many things that deserve moments of silence. Axa (136) makes a good point too, though. This is just the kind of stuff the honor society should be doing, but the only things we’ve done all year were sponsor a dance (which I didn’t attend), elect officers (who did nothing – I’m the secretary and the only thing I did was attend like two extra meetings where we did almost nothing), raise money for muscular dystrophy, sponsor another dance (tonight; I’m not going), and plan the induction ceremony. And we’re going to a water park in June.
In all fairness, it’s the advisor’s first year. But it was incredibly pointless for the most part.

166- We go through this time after time after time; for most people on here, what counts is quality, not quantity. I think that many people may be referring to something similar to this when they invoke the sacred name of MG; however, the reason often that that name is invoked is because someone is doing something that annoys many of us on here. That can involve posting only for the sake of racking up a higher post count/thread count, etc. MuseBlog is not a competition, folks. This is not about getting to the __th thread each month, getting first post, being known for changing your name umpteen times. This is, however, about communicating with others who share similar interests to oneself.
And therein we come to my second point. Some randomness is okay. I remember (back in the day) when wandering-off-topic threads first became an issue that someone pointed out that MB, essentially, is one big conversation, and conversations change subjects occasionally. Going off on a (n interesting) tangent occasionally is okay. Changing the topic when noone seems interested in the current one is okay. However, interjecting random thoughts that often seem only to be posted for the purpose of breaking up the current discussion or for “being random, because that’s what we’re supposed to do here” is NOT okay. Trying to change the subject repeatedly when people are having an involved discussion about one thing is NOT okay, and neither is whining about it when no one fails to respond because, guess what, we’re talking about other things right now. Instead, wait a little while, and try again when there’s a lull in the conversation.
I guess what I’m trying to say is that randomness for a purpose is okay. Randomness just for the sake of being random is not okay. Also, being trigger-happy with invoking the all-powerful MG seems to be counterproductive and pointless. Basically if people are interested in something, that’s good. If they’re not, move on. Also, rather than automatically changing the subject try to think about the current one, and add to it. Everyone gets more out of the blog, that way.
Summary of the summary: Think of MB as a real-life conversation and react to things accordingly. And don’t post just to get to the nth thread. Only post when you actually have something to say.
Summary^3: Randomness for its own sake is not your friend.
(also, bad grammar, spelling, etc gets on my nerves, but that’s a topic for another rant. Yeah, maybe I should move this to the newbie thread, but oh well, it’s relevant here as well.

Robert, I applaud you for a flourishing finish to the Religions thread. It is impossible to argue with blind faith, so I am not that sad at the closing of the thread. Your summary was correct, although I would like to point out that even though I do not really believe in the Norse gods, it isn’t posturing, but merely a personal choice of mine to intertwine my spiritual fulfillment with the gods I prefer. And come on, the norse pantheon kicked some serious arse.
If it is permitted, I would just like to point out one more thing that in my opinion has escaped notice. Even though LaVey and his Church, as well as Crowley’s Abbey of Thelema, may seem kitsch and cult at times, there is a fundamental difference evidenced correctly in the Satanic Bible. Satanism gives people indications on how to live as many do already, pursuing their own interests and ambitions. What makes it a religion is the presence of atmosphere and dogma, ritual and fantasy, which, according to LaVey, man needs. I’m not sure I agree. Satanism differs from every other religion in this: It is the only one that ecourages man to indulge in what his instincts tell him, within limitations (hence the maxim “indulgence- NOT compulsion”).
That is all. My final response to clear up some points left unspoken, posted here out of lack of another thread. I don’t intend to spark a discussion, or make it my “own personal boxing ring”. What can I say, some subjects need heat and diversity. And I enjoy it.
My only regrets on the subject are these: Not seeming to have made much of a dent, and the fact that I will never be able to meet The Doctor.

Don’t ask. I haven’t slept in faaaaaaaaaaaaar too long. Even friday, when i slept in REALLY late and missed my first three periods because my alarm didn’t go off and my parents didn’t wake me up because they thought i was getting sick…even then i only got about 8 hours because i’d been up doing history notes until around 2. Did i mention that chappelle’s stopped doing any tests until after the AP test? (we’re still doing quizzes though) On one hand, it saves my grade, but on the other it means we’re doing a chapter every two days and that’s just insane. It means half a chapter of notes EVERY NIGHT and with pit and carmina and a new band director to choose and all that good stuffins, it’s pretty near impossible. This weekend i have to finish 33 (actually i’ve only got a couple q’s on that one), 34, and 35, and do all 41 yes, 41 questions of 36. And unless you’ve seen the question sheets, you don’t fully understand the implications of 41 questions, because each question is really two or three (or six or eight or ten)
But enough random whining. i should really go to sleep. that would spare you from the boring details of my life. XD

Wow, the pointlessness is annoying me.
I slept until 8:00 (EST) today and I put a CD of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1 and Symphony No. 6. onto my computer. Joy. I’m playing symphony no. 1 in orchestra.
I’m going to go start my violin practice. I’m trying not to procrastinate as much today.

It’s great, Kiara! You’re right Robert. You can’t dwell on horrible things, though you shouldn’t just shrug them off either. Both the shooting and the tadpoles. My sister did that with a caterpillar. She had her in a cage inside but the catrerpillar made a cacoon too early and hatched in the winter time. It was sad because we knew that she would die when we set her free.

I would like to have a moment of silence to think about the soldiers in the middle east…but not just the American soldiers, but the opposition, as well…just because they come from what some consider a third-world country, doesn’t mean that their lives are worthless…just think about them, all of them…if you’re religious, pray to whatever deity you have…if you’re not, just hope and wish them well…and, if you’re feeling especially good (or even if you’re not)…think about everyone who’s died, including the people you don’t know…sometimes, you just need to remember.

128 ~ Yeah, for the honor society induction, one thing is a moment of silence for US troops in Iraq and Afghanistan or something like that, but what about the scores of civilians in Iraq who die every day? There’s so many things that deserve moments of silence. Axa (136) makes a good point too, though. This is just the kind of stuff the honor society should be doing, but the only things we’ve done all year were sponsor a dance (which I didn’t attend), elect officers (who did nothing – I’m the secretary and the only thing I did was attend like two extra meetings where we did almost nothing), raise money for muscular dystrophy, sponsor another dance (tonight; I’m not going), and plan the induction ceremony. And we’re going to a water park in June.
In all fairness, it’s the advisor’s first year. But it was incredibly pointless for the most part.

166- We go through this time after time after time; for most people on here, what counts is quality, not quantity. I think that many people may be referring to something similar to this when they invoke the sacred name of MG; however, the reason often that that name is invoked is because someone is doing something that annoys many of us on here. That can involve posting only for the sake of racking up a higher post count/thread count, etc. MuseBlog is not a competition, folks. This is not about getting to the __th thread each month, getting first post, being known for changing your name umpteen times. This is, however, about communicating with others who share similar interests to oneself.
And therein we come to my second point. Some randomness is okay. I remember (back in the day) when wandering-off-topic threads first became an issue that someone pointed out that MB, essentially, is one big conversation, and conversations change subjects occasionally. Going off on a (n interesting) tangent occasionally is okay. Changing the topic when noone seems interested in the current one is okay. However, interjecting random thoughts that often seem only to be posted for the purpose of breaking up the current discussion or for “being random, because that’s what we’re supposed to do here” is NOT okay. Trying to change the subject repeatedly when people are having an involved discussion about one thing is NOT okay, and neither is whining about it when no one fails to respond because, guess what, we’re talking about other things right now. Instead, wait a little while, and try again when there’s a lull in the conversation.
I guess what I’m trying to say is that randomness for a purpose is okay. Randomness just for the sake of being random is not okay. Also, being trigger-happy with invoking the all-powerful MG seems to be counterproductive and pointless. Basically if people are interested in something, that’s good. If they’re not, move on. Also, rather than automatically changing the subject try to think about the current one, and add to it. Everyone gets more out of the blog, that way.
Summary of the summary: Think of MB as a real-life conversation and react to things accordingly. And don’t post just to get to the nth thread. Only post when you actually have something to say.
Summary^3: Randomness for its own sake is not your friend.

Robert, I applaud you for a flourishing finish to the Religions thread. It is impossible to argue with blind faith, so I am not that sad at the closing of the thread. Your summary was correct, although I would like to point out that even though I do not really believe in the Norse gods, it isn’t posturing, but merely a personal choice of mine to intertwine my spiritual fulfillment with the gods I prefer. And come on, the norse pantheon kicked some serious arse.
If it is permitted, I would just like to point out one more thing that in my opinion has escaped notice. Even though LaVey and his Church, as well as Crowley’s Abbey of Thelema, may seem kitsch and cult at times, there is a fundamental difference evidenced correctly in the Satanic Bible. Satanism gives people indications on how to live as many do already, pursuing their own interests and ambitions. What makes it a religion is the presence of atmosphere and dogma, ritual and fantasy, which, according to LaVey, man needs. I’m not sure I agree. Satanism differs from every other religion in this: It is the only one that ecourages man to indulge in what his instincts tell him, within limitations (hence the maxim “indulgence- NOT compulsion”).
That is all. My final response to clear up some points left unspoken, posted here out of lack of another thread. I don’t intend to spark a discussion, or make it my “own personal boxing ring”. What can I say, some subjects need heat and diversity. And I enjoy it.

Don’t ask. I haven’t slept in faaaaaaaaaaaaar too long. Even friday, when i slept in REALLY late and missed my first three periods because my alarm didn’t go off and my parents didn’t wake me up because they thought i was getting sick…even then i only got about 8 hours because i’d been up doing history notes until around 2. Did i mention that chappelle’s stopped doing any tests until after the AP test? (we’re still doing quizzes though) On one hand, it saves my grade, but on the other it means we’re doing a chapter every two days and that’s just insane. It means half a chapter of notes EVERY NIGHT and with pit and carmina and a new band director to choose and all that good stuffins, it’s pretty near impossible. This weekend i have to finish 33 (actually i’ve only got a couple q’s on that one), 34, and 35, and do all 41 yes, 41 questions of 36. And unless you’ve seen the question sheets, you don’t fully understand the implications of 41 questions, because each question is really two or three (or six or eight or ten)
But enough random whining. i should really go to sleep. that would spare you from the boring details of my life. XD

The race to Part 5 looked pretty hopeless until today, with a surge of 105 posts that are still rising in numbers. Now we are a mere 315 posts away from…A PART 5!!! And we have 8 1/2 days left too.
Too bad this isn’t March. Then we’d have 9 1/2 days left.
Hmm. Hot Topics has no posts yet. I don’t have anything to say there, though. Oh well.
Ahhhhg. I have to make a 15 minute movie for bio by monday… we’re at 9 minutes now. Gah,, I spent about 5 hours editing today… my eyes hurt…

Wow, the pointlessness is annoying me.
I slept until 8:00 (EST) today and I put a CD of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1 and Symphony No. 6. onto my computer. Joy. I’m playing symphony no. 1 in orchestra.
I’m going to go start my violin practice. I’m trying not to procrastinate as much today.
I dislike procrastinating ,but he Internet is a time eater. It makes you want to stay o nthere for a long time so you try and do something quick and end up on the computer for an hour.
On the what’s here page it says we’re already up to 300. You can continue on with the thread because of the junk posts, but if/when we get a new thread, and you don’t have anything else to put as the picture, you can use mine again.

A ceremony? This seems to be going too far. I thought you just had to declare yourself a PoPoPo. It’s wierd, cuz the main page just say 298 posts.
300-The what’s here page shows how many are there, even if still in moderation, while the main page shows how many you can see. That’s a handy way to know if people are on the blog-if there is a difference between the numbers, there are new posts coming.
You really can’t declare yourself a popopo. At least not a member of the real popopo that can collect fines.
The what’s here page takes so long to get to, though, that things can change by then.

Agreed. I thought about deleting the padding, but it would be too much work. Instead I’ll start Part 4 and hope that things will settle down there.
