Miriam, Merle, and Rhoda are in the Otherworld, practicing their powers.
Lsyor, John Smithsonian, and Rubea are on the Moon, doing goodness-knows-what.
Tutankhbastet is also on the Moon, in a different place. With him are the Corrupt Empowered, and Luna, who is evil right now.
Hedge is in Egypt, having recently received a letter from his uncle, who is now dead.
Hanjjvar is no longer trapped, thank goodness. He also knows that he can make golems.
John Doe is somewhere-or-other, I don’t know where. (E2MB?)

I feel quite strong enough to switch Luna now. It would require going back to the Moon, but that can’t be too difficult–after all, Miriam has been in the Otherworld before. Also, I feel we should be reunited with our comrades. Lsyor, Mr. Smithsonian, and Rubea may still be on the Moon, and it is not safe there.

my uncle is dead. He was the one “taking care of me” although i barely ever saw him. He allways seemed quite mad. When i found him dead in the attic i found a penn in his hand. He had sent me the letter thsat i have enclosed. He was writing another letter to me. He is a reincarnation of some egyptian god and told me I was a reincarnation of Wepwawet. I wikipediad it and found he is a wolf god of war. I found many letters and crazsy items in his attic. Can you bring me to the moon or something? I feel an odd presence in me making me feel strong and ready for battle.

What have I done? Luna now believes that she will be rewarded if she destroys the Empowered. She does not seem to realize that if she cracks the Crystal, she, as well as Tutankhbastet and the others, will be destroyed. It is of the utmost importance that I switch her NOW. She has already partially cracked the Crystal, and, as I have written her a letter refusing to halt my communication with the other Empowered, it is only a matter of time before she cracks the Crystal for once and for all. We must go to the Moon.

I am coming to the Moon. I will not be able to stay there long, as I must switch Luna and go back to the Otherworld immediately. Once Luna has been switched, she will be able to find you. Luna plans to crack the Crystal. Miriam and I will travel to the Moon, where I will switch her, and will once again retreat to the Otherworld. That is the plan, though it isn’t a very good one. If you can sense her (perhaps that is part of your powers–we still don’t know what they are, or you Empowered name), then perhaps you could sense Miriam and I when we arrived, and could tell us where Luna is.

But she can be, if we like…she was, after all, found by the King of X, and no one knew from where she’d come.

That is fine. My plan is basic. When we arive on the moon, Lysor will meet us. When she is with you, you will try to switch Luna. I will go in search of Luna and John Smithsonian. I will write to John and tell him where to meet me, and the same with Lysor. Together John and I will find Luna and I will take the three of us back to the otherworld, while you can transport yourself and Lysor. We will meet in the otherworld.Unless of course you need to be with Luna to switch her. If that is so, then I can bring her back to you.
We must do this as soon as possible. We will leave tonight. After we return, it is probable that Tutankhbaset will know where we are, and send Madspin, the only corrupt empowered besides Luna who can walk on the winds between the worlds, to find us. I can destroy him if needed, but it may also destroy me. Tutankhbaset and the evil one are not aware of my presense yet, so we may be able to lure them into a trap.

Even if the Crystal is completely cracked, I shall not die, because the Evil One has given me a stronger soul – which cannot be destroyed by something as simple as the Crystal. I know you haven’t stopped communicating with the other Empowered, so I have taken the liberty of cracking the Crystal even more. I’m sorry, Rhoda, it’s time to stop now.
–LunaAlice – will you tell me when you switch me? Because it’s sometimes hard to tell through letters. Or maybe you can send me a letter to try and figure out whether your switching worked.
I had the Evil One strengthen my soul – that will make it harder for him to kill me in the end, but it also left some permanent evil in me. So maybe when I’m switched, I’ll be mostly good, but still have some temptations to be evil again. Sort of like Gollum in LOTR, or something. Except not that severe.

My master only trusted me with this mission because I didn’t care about the fate of anybody on Earth… but ever since my old friend Lsyor showed up, I’ve been assailed with doubt. I’m a lot less confident than my letters seem.

I sense your presence on the Moon, and am coming to take you to Luna and Tut. One moment, please.

Lsyor peered into her Mirror, searching carefully for the people for whom she was looking. There, she saw them. She activated the Mirror, and stepped in.
She emerged on the other side, with Rhoda and John S., took their hands, searched in her Mirror again, and, with them in tow, glided through the glassy portal. They were about 100ft. from Luna and Tut, hidden behind a rock. She looked at Rhoda, and asked her if she could switch Luna from here.~~~
43-Ok, we’ll have to find a way to make that really work, like, when Tut’s about to destroy someone or something, and Lsyor screams for him not to do it, and he falters, and the Evil One gets mad, and chaos begins to really reign. Sorry, I’m getting into it.
Idea for an ending: All the characters wake up in some other room, convinced that they’ve just had the strangest dream about saving the world, “or something”, but they can’t really remember the details, and just when they figure, well, there’s no way it could’ve been real, they find something that they only had in their dream…and we just leave it at that. Kinda corny, but I like the cliff-hanger.

in July 26th, 2007 @ 11:1949- Ooh, ooh, pick me! I’m a ghost, remember! That could be it! I mean, Luna was already a ghost, and so was Miriam, but I wasn’t when we started this.
Shadowkat- Anything not in letters doesn’t make it into the story. We even had to make all the role-playing stuff into a REALLY long letter from the POV of an NPC so that it fit into the story.
Dear Miriam,
I was standing on the Moon, in between the Otherworld and this one, when John Smithsonian found me. A moment later Lsyor appeared in front of us with her mirror, and took us to Tutankhbastet and Luna, who were cracking the Crystal. I switched Luna, and I’m sure it worked, because she broke her concentration and looked around her. QUICK, MIRIAM! Come to fetch us before Tutankhbastet realizes and does something horrible.

in July 27th, 2007 @ 16:0849 (Shadowkat) – I don’t think it should end that way. I think it’s just a “I couldn’t think of a better ending” way to end a story – and I totally lost a lot of respect for Frank Baum when he ended The Wizard of Oz with a dream. We had an ending before, didn’t we?
Here’s my idea for switching – I’m switched back over, but Tut’s so preoccupied in his other evilness that he can’t tell that I’m good. So I keep pretending to be bad, like I was originally, to give Rhoda some time to gather more strength before turning Tutankhbastet back to “good.” But, just before Rhoda has enough power, I make a mistake of some sort and Tutankhbastet figures out that Ive been switched. Then, he throws the moon at the Sun like he was going to, and those of us on the moon have to, well, figure out what to do – it may be something along the lines of us figuring out how to save the crystal and ourselves, or another way we could do it, would be for all of us to “die” but since we still have “unfinished business,” we turn into ghosts – then, we continue the battle in the Otherworld, or something like that. How does that sound? I like the second one better, personally. What does everyone else think?

Also, There are three other worlds to free from Corruption if you succeed on Earth.This story could go on for a very long time if we want it too. And nobody knows the true identity of the Evil One, and many of you have failed to provide very good backstories.
And even though I am new and unqualified to critique this thread, I have noticed something- the world is broken up into Pure and Corrupt, and the sides are pretty much homogenized into extremely similar personas. I want to know more about these characters. There is motivation for some, but others just seemed like they had nothing to do, and when they heard of the prophecy, dropped everything and left. Please don’t kill me for saying that. It just makes things… uninteresting. Pure people are self-sacrificing and kind, and Corrupt people are selfish and mean. And there is little input from NPCs and the general population, which is suffering the war’s events. I hope to change that with my character if she is accepted. I have developed a back story for her and some flaws, as well as a condition none of the others suffer. I hope it’s not too late in the game to join, and you can take a few days deciding, as I will be away for a bit. Here’s a basic profile, and a letter from her to a NPC.
Name: Umina Kadee
Age: 19
Occupation: Cashier at the children’s clothing store Taylor’s Closet, located in London.
Marital Status: No spouse, but she is about four months pregnant with a baby boy. The father is a man she met one night at a club on a trip to Australia, and is unknown due to the fact he did not give his name or any form of identification (perhaps we shall meet him later?). Umina will not go in for an abortion, but has every intent of giving the child up for adoption.
Living Quarters: An apartment in London with her mother (divorced from her father), where she has lived since her parents’ annulment five years ago. She is an only child, and her mother has a job as a lawyer’s secretary.
Mental State: Unhappiness- all her friends drifted away after she became severely depressed from her parents’ divorce. She has since recovered, but remains unsatisfied with life. Her mother houses her now only out of concern for the baby. She had been threatening to kick out Umina for quite awhile until the pregnancy was discovered. Umina’s only real friend is her cousin, Bertana, who lives in Australia. Bertana is Umina’s correspondent.
Ancestry: Australian Aboriginal. She doesn’t really care about that either way. Neither does her mother, who gave her a traditional name only on her (also Aboriginal) former husband’s wishes. Parents moved to England when she was a small child, hoping to find good jobs.
Proposed Power: The ability to hear the thoughts of small children (infancy-eight years old) coherently, and to see the dreams and nightmares of others- and make them realities, in some cases. She only knows of the kid-power, though. It aids her in her job, but she has told nobody but Bertana.
Appearance: Dark skin, shoulder-length black hair, tawny eyes, and an ordinary face on the whole. Slightly on the tall side, and of course rather big around the middle owing to the pregnancy.

On a bit of a more serious note, did you hear about what’s been going on in America? Of course you have. What a twitty question to ask. It’s awful, though. First an entire city gets wiped out by a neutron bomb, and then that inexplicable bit with New York? I mean, at first I was all like, ‘terrorists, really bold ones”, but that thing with NYC isn’t in the style that you see in most terrorist attacks today. And it seems physically impossible. I mean, what was up with that wall or weird fire? Then the entire city goes underground? I dunno. Crazy stuff out there. I hope they don’t come here to London. I’d have no job (as if that would be the most of my worries…). I really hope they don’t come to Sydney, though. Then you’d be dead, and I’d have nobody to talk to except for this baby.
Oh yes, did I mention that? It happened again. I’d swear I was going mad if I wasn’t already. This time I heard this little voice that said, “hungry…hungry…biscuits….”. So I popped open a tin of chocolate chip ones. I’m not even going to question it. Stuff like that happens all the time at work, and I didn’t start hearing the voices until I started working there. Wretched little high-pitched ones, you know… really annoying. It’s probably just stress. I don’t have money to see a shrink, anyway.
No luck on finding someone who wants to adopt, still. Weird. You sure you still don’t want it? Haha. jk.

I have never thought of Rhoda as either self-sacrificing or especially kind, more sort of helpless and swept along in it all, despite her huge power, (gosh… sound familiar, Alice? I think I need more originality in characters) but maybe you’re right. Indeed, I think that if we ever finish this story we’ll have to spend weeks smoothing it out, fixing flaws, etc., something that Pan and I have hardly touched, even though we’re the most official editors this story has.
Oh, and of course there’s the fact that everyone has heaps of money to pay for plane fare, and almost every letter finds its recipient even if they don’t have the right address, and ghosts book rooms in hotels regularly.There are a lot of characters that dropped out before the story even started, or a little ways into the story, but that’s okay ’cause we just ignore their letters.
NPCs don’t contribute much, do they? Must fix that. There is a letter I wrote though from a middle-aged woman living in New York, including the whole meeting on top of the Chrysler Building, and it helped some. Plus I was considering writing letters explaining the mysterious disappearance of Merle’s first letter, and the like.
85- It isn’t really inappropriate, even by my standards, so I don’t see why it would be snipped. And thy aren’t real emails, (I don’t think) they just fit the format so appear to be real emails.
I should maybe develop Rhoda a little more? Would it help?
BTW, I think you could stay, definitely, so if everyone else agrees you can.
P.S. E2MB isn’t going to come on for a looooooooooooooooooong time, sadly. What will we do with his (fairly essential) character?

Name: Rhoda Ann Gregory
Age: 14
Looks: Dark brown hair in two braids, heart-shaped face, pale skin that burns easily, freckles, and hazel eyes.
Everything else: She lives with her mother, father, and six younger siblings in a very small, cramped, old house on the very, very, outskirts of the suburbs of a medium-sized British town (goodness knows which one, though; I can’t even remember how I ended up in Britain). Because of the children, she has a very great sense of responsibility, and you could say she’s more adult than most fourteen-year-olds. (That, I know, is because when I created her she belonged in a different century. I couldn’t bear to abandon her so I plopped her into this one.) She also has a greater longing for privacy than most teenagers, and years of sitting on the roof has led to a love of high places, though she always prefers trees. She is rather unpopular at school, maybe because she’s too old-fashioned, maybe because she never has time to hang out with other kids after school or even on weekends, and she’s struggling to hard in school to hang out during school, or maybe simply because she’s a solitary person. But she does want company, and at age ten she found a pen-pal, a mysterious, poetic girl named Luna. Because she was only ten, and because she had been prevented from disbelieving magic for two years already, she was not especially surprised when Luna revealed herself to be a ghost.
Ah, about the magic. When she was eight years old, she overheard her parents discussing a n old family prophecy, and, being eight, she drank in every word and believed it. By the time she was of an age to doubt it, she had a correspondent who was a ghost, and magic was pretty ingrained in her. So she never did doubt it.She managed to be incredibly thick, however, when it came to letters addressed to someone named “Elderseventh.”
In the end she snapped, partly because of necessity and partly because of fourteen years of being the oldest and therefore responsible for the other children, and she ran away. It was not, as we are led to believe, completely related to the prophecy.
She is not willing to die for anyone, except, perhaps, her younger siblings, whatever it may seem like. She’s not willing to sacrifice herself for the fate Eight Worlds, either, and now she’s experienced her soul shattering, she’s even more likely to try to avoid circumstances where it could happen again.

in August 8th, 2007 @ 18:3686- This story has a ton of potential. I just feel like you’ve hit a few roadblocks and people are giving up on it too fast. This is a very traditional storyline. But even the most cliched of all plots are made new and shiny and good-smelling with lively characters. Just look at Shrek! And cliched isn’t necessarily bad, mind you. This is a blog project. As far as they go, this is superb. But in the real world, this would get scoffed at and burnt up. (And that was just the introduction… whoo, boy)
For character development, don’t beat yourself up. I can see where Rhoda’s motivation comes from. But that isn’t so for many characters. If I got a letter from a mystical cat spirit saying it needed my help to save the world, I would say, “What the crap?!” and ignore all the other letters. Rhoda’s motivation, from what I have deduced, is a) to help her family and b) escape from her hum-drum life. I don’t get why characters like John Doe and Rubea Hawk and Hanjivar would drop everything and go on this endeavor. Sure, they have a few unexplained quirks, but doesn’t everyone? I wouldn’t put that as a reason to go on a dangerous quest. I also see very little character interaction apart from the most basic of things. Couldn’t we have a romance or two? Maybe two people on the same side loathing each other but work together anyways, despite their constant flame wars? And not just on the Pure side. The Corrupt side, too. I never believed those dumb villains who had no real emotions. I mean, in All Quiet on the Western Front, didn’t Erich Maria Remarque show us that the enemy has feelings as well? And just so everyone knows, it’s okay to aggrandize a few traits. Strangely enough, larger-than-life makes some characters seem more lifelike. I also think we need more descriptions about powers. Like, what are the trees saying to Rhoda? How did her sould get put back together, exactly? THAT GOES FOR EVERYONE! Another thing. When did Luna get to be half-way decent, again? That’s just a little bit of confusion on my part. ‘Nother thing. They should establish some kind of permanent mail-carrying system (like maybe a whole group of hedgehogs? You’d have to describe how they all got to be able to fly, though) so it seems more plausible that everyone ALWAYS gets their letters fairly quickly. Wait, one more thing about PCs. How are they getting away from their regular lives, exactly? I’d like to hear more. Some people don’t elaborate much about that.
Plot-holes.
Maybe somebody could re-vamp their character so they are a banker, and do the whole fraud-and-embezzlement trip to pay for various expenses, but gets in trouble eventually? OrNo, Hanjivar! He’s a master thief, he could steal valuables and pawn them for the group! Yeah, that would work! As for the ghosts booking hotel rooms thing, that’s simple enough- have non-spirit characters do that. They’ll just have to share the room.NPCs. The Empowered aren’t the only important ones! All the poor non-magical people who care about The Empowered are probably snatching themselves bald over the fact that they don’t know where their beloved friend/family member is. There should be some sort of explanantion letter from everyone to all the people who cared aout them before the quest started. And just because somebody is Empowered, doesn’t mean they can’t play useful roles. I’m eventually hoping that Umina meets her child’s father again while on the quest, and there’ll be some sort of confrontation or suchly. This or other scenarios could apply for everyone who had a person who cared or was involved with them.
I have my own holes I’m working on already. Like, how does Umina here her unborn fetus’s thoughts in English instead of some baby language? Is it simply a language that she understands innately and then translates into English? Or is it that the child’s mind is developing rapidly due to its connection to her? I’m going to work in the logic behind that later. See? EVERYBODY can improve. If you tell us that you have nothing to work on, we might as well boot you from the story now, since you’re only going to make it dull. I propose that we all put down our characters in profiles similar to mine, do some tinkering, and then continue the story anew. What does everyone think?

Okay. So. Onward.
I can’t account for other people’s characters, so until du Pelle, Traggle, Merle, Pan, Stormwatcher, Hedge, Cinnamoon, Canix*, and Shadowkat come back, those characters will remain unexplained. E2MB isn’t going to come back, not for ages and ages, so it’s really up to us to deal with/fix John Doe.
Character interaction is hard because of the letter form. There isn’t a lot of it. Mostly the characters stay within their own tight little circles and don’t talk to each other much. Relationships outside Rhoda’s: I get the vague impression that Miriam and Merle have become good friends, ditto with Hedge and Hanjjvar. Lsyor and Tutankhbastet obviously have a history, since it’s a major part of the plot. But you’re right. Romance is on my list of things to avoid, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t have the characters be a little more interested in each other, even if all we do is make some enemies. I don’t know, it’s kind of hard to imagine my character making enemies, she’s so . . . withdrawn. Discreet, polite, call it what you will, she isn’t the type to show it even if she does dislike people. Rhoda has a lot of myself, of course, and that part is me. (Don’t worry, though, I’m not harboring a secret dislike for any of you.)
The Corrupt side isn’t really characterized at all. There’s Tut, who has plenty of character, but everyone else is just another name on the page.
Right. For developing powers: It’s pretty hard to develop anything in this form. It’s mostly “so-and-so say yes” rather than “‘Yes,’ said so-and-so.” If you know what I mean. It’s not natural for someone to sit down and write a letter describing the drawing-room in minute detail, and what everyone said at dinner. Would you? But once again, you’re right. It’s good to have the opinion of someone who hasn’t been involved since the very beginning.
The mail has troubled me for a VERY long time. In my Word document, I’ve put dates up to coordinate with the full moon, but the dates don’t always coordinate with each other… for example, it takes a long time to send a letter to someone who’s a whole ocean away, then get a reply. I like the hedgehog idea, though, when we start to know the other characters more.
The regular-lives thing was another one I worried about. I mean, we have far too many child characters to go with pulling a bunch of money out of the bank and hopping on the plane. Luna probably doesn’t need a plane, but Rubea, Hedge, Rhoda (yes, I admit it, it isn’t well thought-out), Edal, and possibly Merle would all have trouble. Waivers and such. I mean, maybe we could make one of them a brilliant forger, but not all.
The one problem with Hanjjvar pawning stuff- he doesn’t come in until later, so it would just create another plot hole. Hedge did say he had an inheritance, but there are holes in that too. A) if his ancestral home is in Britain, why is his inheritance in America, b) where did it come from, c) why does he have it already, because don’t they generally put huge inheritances into the hands of thirteen-year-olds. We could possibly bring his uncle into it, forcing Hedge to go to America and giving him plenty of money with which to do it, or something like that…?
NPCs- I did intend to write another letter from Rhoda to her family, but forgot, and also got hung up on what she would say. I mean, she couldn’t come right out with it and say, “I’m a ghost. Sorry!” because her family would have a mass-heart-attack (whatever that is). Yes, they need to play more of a role. We can kill two birds with one stone by using the NPC letters to wrap up loose ends.
In response to your last two sentences- I agree. Even though I already did.
89- Great minds think alike! And since you did a whole page of characterization, I suddenly felt Rhoda could do with some smoothing out. Oddly enough, she had very few character-holes.
I will critique Umina eventually… Right now, I just need to take a beak from endless typing.

Let’s see… After you left, we sat around editing and being bored, until Shadowkat came and took Rubea, Miriam, Merle, and John Smithsonian to the Moon, where Rubea and Miriam reconstructed my soul in a rather boring and undramatic way. John Doe made a lot more typos, and Hanjjvar finally broke free, by making a clay golem. Pan (Purple Panda–I think you missed my period of finding short names for everyone. By the way, it isn’t over. But you’re safe, because your name is short enough) finally returned. There was a lot of off-topic discussion…about vacations…editing…blahblahblah…aha! Back on topic. Okay, so Cinnamoon declared that she wanted Miriam to die at the end, and made an attempt to die immediately, but we insisted that she stay alive for a while longer. We discussed death…Hedge’s uncle died, revealing himself to be some sort of amazing person who knew all about the plan, and then was killed off by the Evil One, his parting words being that Hedge had a lot of power that he could use to kill the Evil One, but in doing so he would kill himself. (*sigh* So self-sacrificing. It gets a little annoying after a while, because it’s so unrealistic.) Canix returned from a longish absence… And then Tutankhbastet decided that to crack the Crystal he needed “Kanjal.” We still don’t know who Kanjal is, someone scary, invented by Kiki. We got a new thread, we exchanged plans, then Miriam and Rhoda headed to the Moon (they were in the Otherworld), where Rhoda switched Luna in the act of cracking the Crystal completely. And that’s it.

in August 8th, 2007 @ 21:13Well, maybe we could offer John Doe’s character to someone who wants to join but doesn’t have their own idea for a character. Or if that doesn’t work, we could do something else. Killing is the first option that comes to mind, but that seems too abrupt.
About the letter thing. I say we try to do a third person narration thing, but it should be very limited. Down to the description of power-usage and setting only. That doesn’t really create any unexpected plot twists like a regular RPG/RRR, but gives the reader something to visualize.
I think the romance thing should be a relatively low-key element. If anyone falls in love, it should be only after the two characters get to know each other incredibly well. I think it should come somewhat unexpectedly, but can’t be a story-stopper. Ergo, a admittance to enamorment would tie in best near the end.
I’d like to breathe a bit more life into the various evil people. If anyone would like to join me, go ahead. It doesn’t have to be a top priority, but we should get around to it eventually.
Enmity, like romance, should be relatively low-key, but more noticeable than the romance. Perhaps two characters who have had a slight dislike of each other but have lived with find their emotions magnified after an event, and their rivalry prevents the team from functioning as well as it could, so it must be remedied?
As for character interaction, I think that we should sit down and work out the basic interactions with each other. Characters who want to do more but would like to keep it a surprise to the rest of the characters may be able to do so on old, barely-functioning threads that we don’t really use anymore.
It’s a complicated system, but it could work.

94- Hm, well…. John Doe is the name they give to missing men, so there are thousands of John Does. Maybe it could turn out that he isn’t truly the John Doe/Nightwarrior of the prophecy. That when he knocked people out, he was tricking himself into believing it was magic, when really he was just using the skills that the Secret Service taught him. I mean, nobody but him has ever actually bore witness to his powers, I think. That might work. Maybe John Doe could be a missing man who has been so for awhile, and he has had such a hard life while missing that he quite for got his powers? Somehow? I dunno. We’ll have to work on that. Maybe somebody could take over two characters at once? They’d have to have some serious skillz and dedication to the story.
95- lol. No, I normally don’t like severely depressed characters. Because I have never been depressed and don’t know anyone who has (or at least not that badly), that would be rather difficult for me to depict accurately. Plus, they’re just not very fun to write about. Interesting, but not necessarily fun.

I could probably take another character on if I have to, just to prove that I am
crazyuh, dedicated (as if anyone had any doubt), but the best thing I can think of would be if a Corrupt Empowered wrote a letter to Tutankhbastet, saying that they had killed Nightwarrior. Abrupt, yes, but at least it wraps things up, and I’m not really sure what you were talking about… It seems like to do that, someone would need to take on another character anyway.Anyhow, we might as well work on developing him, because even if he ends up dying, it’ll still be good if he has a bit of character, and we can edit his letters accordingly.
Maybe I should try to post the whole edited story, dates and all, pretty soon. It’ll take about three posts, and I would lose all the special fonts I put up for them, but it might help with the editing since I don’t have Gwen’s email.

Plot and character holes: He’s a grown man! Why would he take the word of some cat spirit that he had never met that he was part of a prophecy and there was a plot to kill the president? I mean, there must be TONS of that stuff on the internet, and someone like John Doe probably wouldn’t give it a second glance. Also, once he has given it a second glance, it seems so very important that he basically drops everything that his life might involve, including his ultra-important job, to fulfill the prophecy. This has long been a puzzlement to me. That’s the biggest flaw he has. His personality seems defined well enough, to me at least.Input, Gwen? Pan? Anyone?
I’ll work on the third-person narration, which will pretty much be setting and time, and will help some with the plot holes.
Where is everyone in the beginning? That was never really specified.

Hedge Atwood = A forest in rural England. But I’ve heard that there no longer is such a thing as rural England, so perhaps he ought to move to somewhere else in Europe. How about Germany? Like, the Black Forest. (Bear with me, I know nothing of the Black Forest except that it sounds interestingly spooky and is in Germany.)
Miriam = The Otherworld.
Merle Linwood = Goodness knows.

Look, Stormwatcher, I’m trying to understand, but could you please explain a bit more thoroughly? You could mean that your character is in both worlds, and knows of both worlds, but wouldn’t that mean that everyone else did too?
It’s these kinds of plot holes we’re trying to fix.

I’ve been thinking about Miriam a bit, and I decided that I made her too perfect. I’ve tried to change her a little bit and give her some faults. I’m going to have to edit my letters a bit to fit in with her personality.She was a Jewish slave in Egypt, but was somehow transported to the otherworld and so became stuck in time. However, during the transition she was blinded. When she received Merle’s letters, she began to realise that she could do something, and tried to help. But however she tried to make herself feel important, she never felt useful at all, and began to slowly build up hate and resentment inside. She has so far managed to control it, but it may get the better of her soon. She has managed it so far with singing, her power, which can help her. This is how she healed Rhoda’s soul.

Soon before she disapeared, she caught a disease which left her alive, but blinded. Her brother stayed with her throughout her sickness, but after she recovered, he caught it as well. One night he was at death’s door, and she wandered off by herself, sure he was going to die. She walked into a cave, where there was strange bursts of light, but she couldn’t see them, so she was not careful. Suddenly there was a loud bang, and she found herself in the other world. Not accepting that her brother might be dead and would never recieve her letters anyway, she wrote to him. When Merle sent a talking bird to her, she gladly accepted the help to get out of her prison.

Name: Umina Kadee
Age: 19
Occupation: Cashier at the children’s clothing store Taylor’s Closet, located in London.
Marital Status: No spouse, but she is about four months pregnant with a baby boy. The father is a man she met one night at a club on a trip to Australia, and is unknown due to the fact he did not give his name or any form of identification (perhaps we shall meet him later?). Umina will not go in for an abortion, but has every intent of giving the child up for adoption. That’s fine to me, it might be a nice twist if the dad ended up being a Corrupt or Pure Empowered (I like the first one best, but I’m weird that way, so don’t mind me) or even the Evil One himself. This is just a random suggestion because I’m kind of bored, and also it would be interesting to see what the kid’ll turn out like. I’m not very nice sometimes.
Living Quarters: An apartment in London with her mother (divorced from her father), where she has lived since her parents’ annulment five years ago. She is an only child, and her mother has a job as a lawyer’s secretary.
Mental State: Unhappiness- all her friends drifted away after she became severely depressed from her parents’ divorce. She has since recovered, but remains unsatisfied with life. Her mother houses her now only out of concern for the baby. She had been threatening to kick out Umina for quite awhile until the pregnancy was discovered. Umina’s only real friend is her cousin, Bertana, who lives in Australia. Bertana is Umina’s correspondent.
Ancestry: Australian Aboriginal. She doesn’t really care about that either way. Neither does her mother, who gave her a traditional name only on her (also Aboriginal) former husband’s wishes. Parents moved to England when she was a small child, hoping to find good jobs.
Proposed Power: The ability to hear the thoughts of small children (infancy-eight years old) coherently, and to see the dreams and nightmares of others- and make them realities, in some cases. She only knows of the kid-power, though. It aids her in her job, but she has told nobody but Bertana. Is this a bit much, power-wise? I’ll have to think about the powers of other people, but it seems kind of a lot. I’ll address that more thoroughly later.
Appearance: Dark skin, shoulder-length black hair, tawny eyes, and an ordinary face on the whole. Slightly on the tall side, and of course rather big around the middle owing to the pregnancy.Powers: Are we too strong? Is it even more unrealistic than fantasy should be? I don’t know. We have these:
Tutankhbastet = Not an Empowered.
Lysor = We know she’s an Empowered, but we never decided her name or talent.
Luna = Moonchild = Sensing other Empowered and, with practice, using their own powers against them.
Merle Linwood = Windwalker = Speaking with birds, flying.
Hedge = Duskwolf = Can turn into a wolf at will. Has immense power, supposedly, that would kill him if he tried to use it.
John Doe = Nightwarrior = The ability to be invisible in darkness, to knock out or kill people with only a touch, and instinctive expertise with weapons. Okay, now that’s a lot of powers.
John Smithsonian = Oldseeker = Knowledge of buried and hidden things, heightened senses, and strange, unpredictable, yet always accurate visions. Okay, Umina does not have an unnecessary amount of powers.
Rubea Hawken = Jewelhawk = Affecting people with a touch.
Miriam = Soulsinger = Healing with a song, getting inside other people’s minds.
Hanjjvar = Stormwatcher (we need to change it. It has absolutely nothing to do with his powers. Maybe something like Earthspeaker?) = talking to animals, creating golems.
Rhoda = Elderseventh = Making something the opposite of what it is.
Umina Kadee = ? = The ability to hear the thoughts of small children (infancy-eight years old) coherently, and to see the dreams and nightmares of others- and make them realities, in some cases.
Okay. It works. But it still needs editing.

I agree, he should be evil, if not the Evil One. So cliched, but that could make the final encounter interesting.
Oh, yeah, forgot to mention. Umina’s parents split because her dad had an alcohol-abuse problem. A really serious one that he refused to do anything about. Umina herself had alcohol problems during her depression, but gave it up when she found out she was pregnant. She may not want the baby, but she doesn’t want to kill/handicap it.

I was sure that if I stayed in the house a moment longer I would go quite and utterly mad. So I am now sitting on the roof and hoping no one comes outside and wants to try it too, because if one of the kids gets up here I’ll get in trouble.
Peter and Molly are fighting as usual, and even though Jack is trying to keep them apart, they’ll probably wake Ellen up and I’ll have to go down and stop them.
I want to get away but I’m scared of what might happen if I do. I wish I was the youngest.
Do you believe in prophecy? I do. When I was eight I heard my mom and dad talking about prophecy. I’ve believed in it ever since. I wish I didn’t, because there is a prophecy about our family that says none of the children will succeed at anything until the seventh child has defeated the Evil One. Of course, the seventh child is Ellen and she’s far too young to defeat anything. I’m not supposed to have heard it though, so don’t tell. And please, please, don’t laugh at me. I’m serious!

My story is coming along well. Ellen is nearly to the vanquishing part, and then I will write about my normal life, which will be pure bliss. It’s odd. Most people might think that I have a normal life, but I feel like I am in a cage, because of the prophecy. But nothing bad has happened to me yet. I haven’t failed at anything except schoolwork.

I believe it’s Foxfire, but Drakesinger is also a possibility. Take all possible precautions. If it’s Drakesinger, you will probably be able to defeat him. If it’s Foxfire, you will not. Yes, often prophecies seem to cage you in. When prophecies are made, if the person in it knows about it, often they try to fulfill the prophecy, and therefore box-in that individual.
Why don’t you try going to the stream with Jack, or Molly? If you are with them when you go, you might feel safer. And that will also help you if you’d like to do a little experiment — go to the stream with one of them, and see if you hear the voices. If you do, then you know that it is not just you. But if you don’t, you know there is something strange going on with just you. Then, try taking Ellen with you, to see if it has something to do with the Empowered. But, of course, you can only do that when the noises come back. Perhaps wait until the next full moon…
An attack on the President, you say? And Elderseventh. Hmm. Could it be the Evil One?

The full moon has come and gone, and there have been no more noises whatsoever. Perhaps they are gone completely? I hope so. They scared me.
You know what’s strange? You are talking about the “Empowered”, just like in the mistaken letter from Mr. Tutankhbastet. I am sure I didn’t mention that part . . .
I have been thinking since I wrote my last letter. Could “Elderseventh” mean me? Could the seventh child be me? Could I be the one who is meant to vanquish the Evil One? I am not sure how I feel about that conclusion.
I managed to read the prophecy above the door. It isn’t a poem at all. It says:

Tutankhbastet is evil? Well, that would have come as quite a shock before, but now that I have been trapped in here for so long, I can definitely believe it. How many other Empowered has he trapped? I will try and contact them as soon as possible. But I do not want to try and leave this hotel yet, because I believe Tutahkhbastet still thinks he is in power. I will do as much as I can while still in this room. I think it also helps to have a spy, although I’m not sure how much I can do in here. I’ll have to do some exploring. Just beware, as soon as someone breaks out of their room, not only do they have Tutankhbastet to deal with, but they have also broken the veil, so they will also have to defend themselves against the Evil One.
Keep working on your powers, Rhoda. I know you can find a way, being one of the most powerful empowered. Why don’t you ask the trees for help? I’ve heard they are a great source of wisdom and power. And you seem to have quite a connection with them.

Since we are both trapped in the rooms, we are probably close by. My room is not locked, however I am sure Tutankhbastet has put a spell or something on my room. I am a spirit, and yet I am trapped. He has some powerful magic surrounding me.
Codi saw the letter? But how? Well, nevermind that. I have used some of my powers (as much as I can use while still in this hotel room, and not enough to come out from under the veil of protection) to make Codi forget about it. It was just a letter, so it was simple to make him forget about it. The Veil is a shroud of mystic energy that conceals nascent Empowered from the sight of other, malignant Empowered.

Hanjjvar, in case you don’t know, Tutankhbastet is a cat-spirit, who was originally on our side, we think, but has now turned evil. Or he may have merely been possessed by the Evil One. I do not believe that Tut knows of me as when I first wrote to him when I did not know of his evil associations he had not replied. I have been trying to bring Tutankhbastet back over to our side, but because I don’t know exactly where he is, it is hard and an exhausting process. In doing so, I came out of the Veil, and now must move constantly to avoid being detected by the Evil One.

I have been talking with the trees, and they agree that we should move again. It is dangerous to stay in the same place for too long, especially for Rhoda, who has come out from the veil. They are making tree houses for us in various places all around the country, and are making all arrangements for our transportation. Every few days, we will move to a different place. They have also contacted the earthworms and the groundhogs, who are going to try and make underground houses for us as well. Underground houses will be much safer, because the Evil One and everyone possessed by him cannot go underground. Also, we will have the trees’ roots for safety. Our next location is Muse, Pennsylvania. Be sure to be at the Tree House at 6:00 p.m. sharp today, and you will be transported automatically.

Do not fear Tutankhbastet’s threats. Any evil, or anything whatsoever that is against the Empowered cannot travel underground, or linger there or anything, so the groundhogs and earthworms have created homes and tunnels underground. Everyone in the Tree Home, (or anywhere, for that matter) can travel underground and be safe from all evil. It is a universal veil, for everything.
But we do have the problem that he threatened everyone in New York. However, Tutankhbastet set no time frame for when we should meet him, so everyone who wishes to join in on this next “adventure” should meet in the new underground “Tree House” in New York. Just go to the original tree house and you will be automatically transported there. We need as many people as we can to plan what we’ll do about this problem.

Dear Maisie,
I am most shaken up. You would not believe what has happened today! I will tell you. I was on the Chrysler Building today, when a kitten came in. He was small and black, with a gold streak running down his back to the tip of his tail. There was no one with him.
Now I thought that this was odd, and I didn’t want anyone thinking it was my kitten. So I made myself scarce, or at least, I hid. Pretty soon, a bunch of other people came in. There were a couple of girls, and a boy, and none of them were older than seventeen.
Now they all stood in front of the cat, like they were having a meeting, and guess what happened then! The cat TALKED! He said to the boy, and I quote, “Ah, Hedge. How’s your friend doing? On the verge of death, I presume. Or would be, had Jewelhawk not intervened. How does it make you feel to know that below that facade of civilization, you’re a bloodthirsty freak?”
And I was pretty shocked, I can tell you, but it kept on talking. Only this time, he wasn’t talking to a person. He was talking to air! He said, “And Luna. You won’t be around much longer. The Crystal has already cracked. Once it splits in half, the Empowered’s disembodied souls will be sucked across to the Otherlife.”
I can remember every word he said, and what happened afterward, though it didn’t really mean anything. Next, he turned to the younger of the two girls–the two girls that I could see, that is. And he said to her: “Elderseventh, if you try any of your switching tricks on me, I’ll signal Foxfire, and he’ll create such a massive tremor that the warren of tunnels beneath New York will collapse.” She looked pretty darn scared when she heard that, and the other two didn’t look a whole lot better.
It only got stranger from there. He didn’t speak to the other girl, but he said, “Now, let’s get down to business. Are you willing to join me?”
The boy spit at the cat, and said, “You’re more bloodthirsty than I am. You want control so badly that you will destroy NYC just to get us.”
The cat wiped off the spit with his paw and looked real mad. “That was a mistake, Duskwolf,” he said. “I’ll take that as a no. What about the rest of you?”
The younger girl said, “No, I won’t!” and the boy said, “I can’t believe a highly respected Egyptian god could get so corrupted. I can’t believe I thought of you as an idol when you were planning to kill us. But I still thank you for doing your part in the prophecy and gathering us together. I enjoy being with the other Empowered and if it is needed I will enjoy killing you.”
Now this was a surprise, and not a pleasant one, believe you me! The cat was an Egyptian god! I wouldn’t normally have believed this, but, there it was, a talking cat in front of me.
The cat said to the boy, “It is mutual. I will certainly enjoy killing you.” I was beginning to worry that they’d kill each other right there, in front of me!
And then a girl appeared from thin air! I nearly had a heart attack! She said, “I’m sorry, Tut. You cannot suck our souls anywhere. We have protection underground, with dirt, and there is nothing you can do to break that protection. We are safe from all evil. And we’re not underground, you say? Well, that does not stop us from coming prepared.” She pulled a bag of dirt from nowhere and gave a bit to all of the other children. When she had done, she turned back to the cat. “But anyway, Tutankhbastet,” she said, “what did you want to talk about?”
This was getting weirder by the minute, and I wasn’t ashamed to admit it. But none of those kids, or the cat, seemed to think there was anything amiss. It was most puzzling.
The cat, Tutankhbastet, replied, “I already talked about it. Join me or everyone in New York dies. Including the people in the tunnels. Just because we can’t effect anything underground doesn’t mean we can’t collapse the tunnels from above ground. And speaking of which, Luna, the Crystal is the very essence of earth. If it breaks, ground loses it’s ultimate protection, and the Empowered will no longer linger on earth as ghosts, but be pulled to the Otherlife like the rest of humanity. I’ll give you one last chance. Will you join me?”
The other girl, who hadn’t spoken yet, was looking pretty horrified. When the cat said these words, she finally spoke. “Tut,” she said, “how could you? I came to visit my friend, not my enemy. And that’s what you’ve become…my enemy.” And then she broke down and started to cry.
The ghost–because she couldn’t really be anything else–laughed. “Oh please, Tutankhbastet. You underestimate the power of the Empowered. Evil has its powers, and so does good. All of nature has taken our side, and they are much stronger than you think. You cannot collapse the tunnels: magic protects them, and it is stronger than you could ever imagine. Now, almost the entire city of New York is in these tunnels, and they are being trained to fight evil. All you are doing is breeding a larger army – for your opponents. And you alone do not have the power to destroy the crystal. We have the lightning bugs currently working on repairs, but why would you want the Crystal destroyed? You would die as well. What is going on here?” And at that precise moment, the younger girl said, “Tutankhbastet–I–yes, I’ll join you.”
The girl that was crying stopped, and turned on the other girl. “Rhoda, how could you?” she wailed. “I trusted you!” Rhoda looked like crying herself, and she said, “Lsyor, I couldn’t do anything else! He’ll destroy us all anyway!”
The cat hesitated. He didn’t look very happy, and I found myself hoping he would speak to the oldest girl–Lsyor. But he didn’t. Instead, he said, “It is you who underestimate us, Moonchild.” I didn’t know who Moonchild was, but then again, there were of things I didn’t know. And there were more names than there were people, unless there were a lot of other ghosts that I couldn’t see, which there might have been. Or maybe these people had several names each. I’ll never be sure. He continued. “I may not have the power to destroy the Crystal alone, but I’m not alone. Three of the Eight Worlds have fallen under the sway of the corrupt Empowered, and a fourth is heavily embattled. I lead only the advance force for the conquest of Earth. If we conquer four, we will be equal to the so-called Pure Empowered. But that point is moot, since Elderseventh is now on my side.” He stopped as a large black man came into the room, asking, “Am I too late? What did I miss?” The cat smiled, almost, as well as a cat can smile. It sent shivers down my spine, believe me! “Yes, Nightwarrior, you are late indeed. One of the most powerful in your ranks has come to see my point of view. Elderseventh! Repeat after me: I swear by the Hand of Set and Loki’s Flame that I will faithfully serve Tutankhbastet and the Evil One until my soul is extinguished.”
Then Rhoda/Elderseventh looked mighty uncomfortable, and it served her right, too, the traitor. She said, “Swear? I have to swear?” in a small frightened voice, and you could almost feel sorry for her. But I didn’t let myself. And the girl said, “I–fine.” The boy cried, “Rhoda, don’t do it!” Rhoda looked at him, and then looked away. And then she said, all in a rush, “I swear by the Hand of Set and Loki’s Flame that I will faithfully serve Tutankhbastet until my soul is extinguished.” No one even noticed that she had left a bit out. A tattoo of a black hand holding a golden flame appeared on her forehead, but she didn’t even notice. I know I would have noticed, Maisie, if it had been me. But maybe there wasn’t any time to notice, because there was a bang and a smell like burning, and everyone jumped but the boy, who looked pretty well pleased with himself.
Lystor had been staring around her, and she finally said, “Well, I will not join you, Tutankhbastet, but I will not hurt you either. Leave me out of this… I’m going home, where my friends are still me friends–I HOPE!” And she stepped through a hand-mirror and disappeared entirely. I tell you, Maisie, I’ve seen nothing like it in 56 years, and I’ll probably never see anything like it again! I certainly hope not. It’s enough to give you nightmares.
There was a moment of silence, and then the ghost-girl said, “Okay, Tutankhbastet, I will join your side. Now please extinguish the flames around New York.”
Tutankhbastet smiled that creepy cat-smile, and said, “Excellent. Elderseventh, would you mind switching ground and sky inside–” But he looked out the window and said a word I’d never heard before, but it can’t have been a good one. “What used to be inside Foxfire’s wall, before Foxfire died, as he has appeared to do?” He was so cold he scared me, I swear. If someone had died, I might at least be a little sorry. The cat continued, “It’s more difficult than what you have done previously, but you have more than enough power.” Rhoda looked slightly concerned, and asked, “Will that destroy the city?” I must say I was warming to her a bit–just a bit.
“No,” said Tutankhbastet, “the city will be fine. Though Nightwarrior and Duskwolf may want to get people out of the deeper tunnels.” The boy and the man nodded and fled the building.
Rhoda looked like she was concentrating on something, and in front of my very eyes, the view outside the window gave a little shake and the whole building turned upside down! The view was of nothing but dirt and rocks. Rhoda sat down heavily on the ceiling.
Tutankhbastet said, “Excellent, Elderseventh. There is now a massive dome of earth and rock encasing the buildings of New York City, and a huge cave below it, containing everything that used to be underground. Gravity has switched in both those places. If the Empowered can get out of that, I’ll begin to respect them. Come, Moonchild, Elderseventh. We are heading to the Sahara Desert. When we arrive, I will tell you my plan…” Then the ghost, the girl, and the cat were catapulted up through the floor, and disappeared.
The worst thing about this, Maisie, is that now the city is underground. No, I’m not going mad, it’s true. Ask anyone else in New York City, and they will confirm it.

I agree with you. I’m not sure how we can help though. I still think that we should stay here, and try and find the Evil One. I sensed some presence of evil when I was walking past a small tourist shop. I went inside, and found a very creepy atmosphere. No one was there at all, and no one outside the building seemed to see it. I think that the evil one might be here.

He filled me in on everything that had happened that I missed, including his own conversion to good, and what happened at the meeting in the Chrysler Building. Fighting Tut will not work. He has too much power, and many of the good Empowered are too inexperienced to survive. They, along with you, must be trained before any fighting can be done. And still, that is the last resort. We must use our powers of thought and logic to defeat them, not violence. We will not let him destroy the Crystal. I have been working on mending it during the past few days, and he has not even noticed. Since I am a ghost I can slip away occasionally unnoticed, and I have already mended a significant part of the crack in the Crystal. I have a strong connection with it, so that helps me fix it, and will give me strong powers when he tries to destroy it. Do not go to Ireland. Stay safe, in the underground tunnels in America. If you must, have the worms and other underground animals make you some caves and tunnels in Ireland, but do not go anywhere above ground. You will weaken the veil and be in much greater danger.

Tutankhbastet has just asked me to begin speaking to the moon. I have been speaking to it a lot lately – and it has seemed to be quite responsive. If all has gone as I have asked, the crack in the crystal is almost completely healed. There is no way Tutankhbastet can get to the crystal without me, and only me, opening up the moon for him. If I do not “succeed” in revealing the crystal, there is absolutely no way he can get it. He can’t blow it up or use any destructive force, because if the crystal is not revealed, there is nothing that can break the moon’s protective barrier. It will also be extremely difficult for him to destroy the crystal if there is no crack. Perhaps I will reveal the crystal when the crack is completely closed, then it will be almost impossible to destroy it. Then we can bring up the other Empowered, and destroy Tutankhbastet – or at least threaten to, because he would be one against at least 10 or so.

Tutankhbastet caught me healing the crystal, but I was in luck. I completely healed the crystal, and put a special charm on it so it is nearly impossible to break. Somehow, up here on the Moon, I have not tried to switch Tutankhbastet. Perhaps it is because he is well-protected, or perhaps there is some other reason, but whatever the reason, I have not yet tried. Dear Empowered,
You cannot imagine how painful it is when your soul shatters. Such a deep pain! And it does not stop when your soul has shattered. It lingers on, though all consciousness has vanished. Do not swear an oath to Tutankhbastet! Speaking of the oath, I am unsure as to whether or not I am truly free of my dreadful binding promise. When I swore, I said that I would serve Tutankhbastet until my soul was extinguished. It was not extinguished; it was shattered. My present state does not show in mirrors, so I do not know whether the mark of my oath is still on my forehead.
But I cannot die again, and that in itself means a certain immunity to the oath. I do not think that I shall be controlled by Tutankhbastet anymore.
Where is everyone? What has been happening while I was dead? I have missed all the letters sent in my absence.

Rhoda,
After much experimentation, I have discovered how to use my powers to their full. I always knew that I could get inside people’s minds and heal them a little with just the power of my mind, but I have found a more potent power. If I sing the right song, I can fully enter a being’s mind and do whatever I please with it. I can heal and sooth, but I also have powers that could be to our advantage. I can confuse minds, send beings to sleep, and even take full control of their bodies, and mark them permently with me essence, which controls their mind, even when I am not in them. This last takes much effort though, and I will only use it if it is truly needed. I am not alive physically any more, but I fear that it would kill my soul. I would not be able to return to any form of life, except a wind, or breeze. I will sing this song, however, if it is to defeat the evil one, or one of his minions, if destroying this evil while help the empowered and the world.

The Crystal has cracked, with the aid of Moonchild. Now its eldritch outer shield has been permeated, we can destroy it through more conventional means. May I suggest flinging it into a small star?
The bad news: The Empowered seem to be figuring out their abilities, even the ones I concealed from them. Stormwatcher has realized his ability to create golems. They seem to be rallying for a final assault. My Empowered will probably be able to defeat them, but we must take all precautions. I strongly recommend sending me Kanjal.

I feel quite strong enough to switch Luna now. It would require going back to the Moon, but that can’t be too difficult–after all, Miriam has been in the Otherworld before. Also, I feel we should be reunited with our comrades. Lsyor, Mr. Smithsonian, and Rubea may still be on the Moon, and it is not safe there.

My uncle is dead. He was the one “taking care of me” although i barely ever saw him. He always seemed quite mad. When I found him dead in the attic I found a pen in his hand. He had sent me the letter that I have enclosed. He was writing another letter to me. He is a reincarnation of some Egyptian god and told me I was a reincarnation of Wepwawet. I wikipedia-ed it and found he is a wolf god of war. I found many letters and crazy items in his attic. Can you bring me to the moon or something? I feel an odd presence in me making me feel strong and ready for battle.

What have I done? Luna now believes that she will be rewarded if she destroys the Empowered. She does not seem to realize that if she cracks the Crystal, she, as well as Tutankhbastet and the others, will be destroyed. It is of the utmost importance that I switch her NOW. She has already partially cracked the Crystal, and, as I have written her a letter refusing to halt my communication with the other Empowered, it is only a matter of time before she cracks the Crystal for once and for all. If you can sense her (perhaps that is part of your powers–we still don’t know what they are, or you Empowered name), then perhaps you could sense Miriam and I when we arrived, and could tell us where Luna is.

That is fine. My plan is basic. When we arrive on the moon, Lysor will meet us. When she is with you, you will try to switch Luna. I will go in search of Luna and John Smithsonian. I will write to John and tell him where to meet me, and the same with Lysor. Together John and I will find Luna and I will take the three of us back to the otherworld, while you can transport yourself and Lysor. We will meet in the otherworld.Unless of course you need to be with Luna to switch her. If that is so, then I can bring her back to you.
We must do this as soon as possible. We will leave tonight. After we return, it is probable that Tutankhbastet will know where we are, and send Madspin, the only corrupt empowered besides Luna who can walk on the winds between the worlds, to find us. I can destroy him if needed, but it may also destroy me. Tutankhbastet and the evil one are not aware of my presence yet, so we may be able to lure them into a trap.

On a bit of a more serious note, did you hear about what’s been going on in America? Of course you have. What a twitty question to ask. It’s awful, though. First an entire city gets wiped out by a neutron bomb, and then that inexplicable bit with New York? I mean, at first I was all like, ‘terrorists, really bold ones”, but that thing with NYC isn’t in the style that you see in most terrorist attacks today. And it seems physically impossible. I mean, what was up with that wall or weird fire? Then the entire city goes underground? I dunno. Crazy stuff out there. I hope they don’t come here to London. I’d have no job (as if that would be the most of my worries…). I really hope they don’t come to Sydney, though. Then you’d be dead, and I’d have nobody to talk to except for this baby.
Oh yes, did I mention that? It happened again. I’d swear I was going mad if I wasn’t already. This time I heard this little voice that said, “hungry…hungry…biscuits….”. So I popped open a tin of chocolate chip ones. I’m not even going to question it. Stuff like that happens all the time at work, and I didn’t start hearing the voices until I started working there. Wretched little high-pitched ones, you know… really annoying. It’s probably just stress. I don’t have money to see a shrink, anyway.
No luck on finding someone who wants to adopt, still. Weird. You sure you still don’t want it? Haha. jk.

Name: Lsyor (last name unknown)
Age: 17
Power: Ability to read others’ moods by viewing their auras. Possesses a Mirror through which she can travel to any place she’s seen, even if only in a picture.
Empowered Name (feel free to critique): VisiauraAppearance: Human, except for the fact that her eyes are large, dark, and purple with silver flecks, and her hair is made of some kind of metal fiber, thin, but durable. It, too, is silver. Her nails follow suit. Also, her ears are slightly pointed. In other words, she somewhat resembles a pixie. As I said, though, she’s basically human. Fair skin, about 5’5″, slim, but athletic, build.
Bio: Lsyor was found, apparently abandoned in the woods, by the King of Planet X, the 13th planet in our solar system (Yes, I changed that part a bit, but it’s cooler that way.). She was raised as the First Maid to the Princess of X, and became almost like another daughter to the King and Queen. At one point in her childhood, when she was 5 years old, she met a young man named Tutankbastet, who, so he said, was from the 3rd planet, Earth. Tut, as he came to be called, was a traveling bard/raconteur, and he switched planets each month, bringing with him new tales to tell and new songs to sing. Lsyor became infatuated with this young man, and she looked on him as something almost like a cousin. At one point, though, Lsyor received a letter from Tut, stating that he would not see her that month, nor, possibly, the one after that. He was sorry, but something had come up. (PC fills in here.) She wrote back saying that she forgave him, and hoped to see him soon (by this time, she was 9). 7 months passed, and she still had not heard from him, so she sent him a letter, asking him where she was. He replied in a letter that she has kept ever since she got it, in a bag on a silver chain that she wears around her neck (it is a gift from him that he gave her when she was 7). The letter said, simply: “Lsyor, I am sorry, but I do not think I will see you for quite some time. Possibly never again. I truly am sorry. Ever Your Humble Servant, Tut”. Why she has cherished this letter, Lsyor has never been sure, but, even so, she does. For the 8 years after she had received that letter, Lsyor has had a fairly uneventful existence…until now. She became involved with this battle because, after having a dream in which she was trying to save Tut from a terrible prison, she decided to go to Earth and find Tut, as if nothing had happened. And you know the rest. More later.

The letters are probably what bothers me the most, too. On my computer (in my word document of this story) I have taken all the emails out, because they seem very inconsistent. Like, people were sending emails to Luna and Rhoda, and I know Luna doesn’t have a computer, and I doubt Rhoda does. I think they should ALL be actual letters, written in pen-and-paper. Because any other way it would make it too confusing and implausible…I think.
As for the transportation of the letters – it can’t be anything *too* crazy, but maybe we can create some sort of mailing system where the letters would be transported really fast. Some of the letters include time restraints on them, (“if you don’t come by tomorrow, NY will die,” etc.), and if the letter took 3 or more days to send, it wouldn’t make any sense. I’m thinking of the owls in HP, then madly tossing that out of my mind because I don’t want it to be anything like HP. But maybe there could be some sort of strange mailing system. Yes, this is present-day Earth, but we could add some cool things. Maybe the letters are “smart” like “smart pies” or something, and can find who they’re looking for. But it can’t be *too* magical, because it’s just going to be the regular mail system on Earth.
Gah. Pfft. *thinks hard*Anyway, here’s a brief character description of Luna – I’ll be continuously working on it, but I’d like suggestions.
Name: Luna (I don’t think I gave her a last name – suggestions welcome)
Age: 14 (I originally had her as 12, but she seems much older than 12 as I write her. I think 14’s a good age, but it’s also the same age as Rhoda. Is that okay?)
Looks: Thin, especially bony arms, legs, and hands. (This is so hard! I imagined Luna almost exactly the same as Alice described Rhoda, so I have to think of something different. Hmm…) Long dark-brown hair, which is very straight and always perfectly brushed and such, even though she never brushes it. She has bright blue eyes, almost piercing crystal, and very pale skin. She has a strange aura around her – when you get close to her, you almost feel like you’ve walked into a cool mist. She is always wearing a long-sleeved black shirt and an ankle-length red cotton skirt.
Luna’s Past: Luna is a ghost. She grew up on a small dairy farm with her mother, father, twin brother. They lived a “happy life,” with everything they ever wanted and needed right there on their farm. They were very old-fashioned, (or, maybe they were just right for their time period – Luna died long before 2007), and they had a very organized family life. Her father and brother took care of the farm, and she and her mother worked inside – cooking, sewing, etc. Luna always wanted to help her father and brother, though, because she loved all the animals. She often got bored of sewing, and her mother always scolded her when she got hardly anything done in several hours. Luna was very close with her brother, Dal. (“Luna” means Moon in Latin, Italian, Spanish, Romanian, Russian, and Bulgarian. “Dal” means Moon in Korean. Maybe Luna’s parents knew something about their powers with the moon? Maybe Luna will find Dal someday, and he’ll join the “Quest”). One day, Luna and Dal were playing by a big river near their house. It had a very strong current, and a waterfall at the end (but they didn’t know about the waterfall). They dipped their feet in, and were contemplating going swimming. They were going to go in at the count of 3, but neither of them did. So Luna pushed Dal into the river, for fun. The current immediately took Dal into the center of the river, and was forcing him under. Luna realized what she had done, and jumped in (foolishly) to go save him. The current took them both, hand-in-hand, down the river. When they approached the waterfall, they started to panic. They were holding hands tightly, and Dal managed to grab onto a big rock in the river. He had a pretty strong grip on the rock, and was holding Luna against the current as well. He couldn’t hold her for long, though – he started losing his grip on both Luna and the rock. Luna knew that if he kept holding onto her, they would both die, so she let go, letting herself go over the waterfall, and Dal safely at the rock. So, yeah, she died to save him… (That might be too dramatic, but I couldn’t really think of another way for her to die, logically. But their connection might help Luna later in the “battle,” and it also gave a reason for Luna to become a ghost).
So, Luna died, and was in some in-between zone for a long time (who knows how long), until she finally became a ghost. (This process took a long time). She went back to her house to find her family, but the house was empty and looking very run-down. She looked all over for signs of her family, but she couldn’t find them. So she became a very dreary ghost for a long time, and just sort of floated in and out of life and death for decades, until she received some strange letter from a cat….and you know the story from there.
Luna decided to join this quest partly because she didn’t have anything else to do, and wanted to help, instead of being a miserable ghost, and also, because Tutankhbastet called her “Moonchild.” The only reason she became a ghost is because of her brother – she was so connected to him for some reason, and came back to life to make sure he was okay, etc. She knew his name meant “Moon” just like hers, so maybe if she joined in on this journey she would find him along the way. When they have found each other again, they’ll both die or something. But I’m not sure.Do I need anything else? I’d love suggestions.

Luna sounds like she’s sort of a Victorian west-coaster, if you ask me. But that’s just me imposing my knowledge of the place where I live onto everything else. And those people weren’t naming their kids Luna and Dal, that’s for sure…
Anyway. I think this brother/sister relationship is becoming a theme. But there’s nothing wrong with that, and even I have a brother or several that I want to save.
Also, I would like to know how Luna and Rhoda got to be penpals. That’s up to me as well as Pan, though, so we should work on that.
Maybe . . . ugh. I can’t think. How have I got penpals in the past? Through penpal agency-type things, and by corresponding with friends/relations. That won’t work. Ugh. HELP! I keep thinking of Write Me If You Dare. Good god, make it stop.
Not that Write Me If You Dare was such a bad book, but it had a very typical solution.Anyhow, I really don’t know. Sorry.
Letter transportation– Ergh. I’m drawing a blank. Well, not technically, but I keep thinking of teleportation, which is as good as a blank.
Here’s something I’ve wondered for a while. When they’re all together, like in a tree home, they shouldn’t write to each other. Maybe we should always have someone who can’t make it, and explain the plan to them, rather than “All Empowered [even those who are sitting right next to me].” And the tree homes need more description, too.

Eventually, she could meet her parents once she finds out about Hedge and her being related, and they could be sorry, and she could forgive them, and that adds to a “happy ending” type thing!

During the battle Rancarl sent Hanjjvar around behind Warp, who Used a spell meant to destroy both Hanjjvar an d Rancarl. The spell malfunctioned and Sent Hanjjvar to our world, but not before the spell killed Rancarl. Hanjjvar believes Tutankhbastet killed his mentor, and will do all he can for revenge (Don’t worry. Warp was killed by Rancarl’s Dyv-najj knife (“Daemon’s Bane”))
