It starts on the 29th! My final HS year!
thank you gapas!
i’m really not worried about school….. i just don’t relish geting up before 10am everyday. or the amount of homework i’m sure my teachers will give me.
Eep, I am so not ready for it. Even though it starts september 4th… I havn’t bought any notebooks or anything. Band camp starts soon, though.
1- cool! are you sick of people asking you where you’re going to collage yet?
I start next Tuesday the 21st. *sigh* I am not ready to go back to P.E. or math, or Language arts, becuase those are all the classes I dread. I hate p.e. once again becuase I am NOT sporty, the only sport I can do is dance. I dont like math becuase my teacher last year was aweful, and scary, and the words ’embarassing a student to the highest extent’ are not in his vocabulary. Plus, someone said they would rather have him again than the math teacher I am getting. Ug. I dont like L.A. becuase my teacher was very moody, her bads moods were extremely frightening, and she wasnt very friendly, and she called on me when I didnt expect it, only for me to answer after about 5 minutes because she didnt word it in an understandible manner. *sigh again* Has anyone else had the worst luck with teachers lately? I dont really care about the homework if the teachers are nice, but now I am going to get twice the homework and more scary teachers.
Every time I see “back to school”…I remember the stupid Office Max jingle for their back to school sales. I still know all th words. Ugh.
Ê‘yviva, I think your workload beats mine, since you have two AP classes, as said on the random thread. Luck to you. x__x
1) Lucky! DX I can’t wait to get out of high school! Good luck with senior year and everything.
Hmm as for me…sophomore year looks positively dismal. ☆
Between classes and driving and Confirmation (don’t get me started on that…) I wonder when I’ll have time to sit and do nothing aka my current favorite pastime. Oh well. Gotta get ready for college.
I’m going to have to get up at or around 6AM everyday, get home at 3PM, do work for lord knows how long, fall asleep and then repeat. Such…such are the joys of youth.
4-I’m only going into 9th grade and I’m sick of people asking where I’m going to college. They all expect me to know exactly where I’m going with my life.
I have to get to school an hour earlier this year because I’m going to high school. The bus gets here at 6:50 so I’ll probably wake up at 6. I should also go to bed at a reasonable time. (not 3 AM) I think I’m going school shopping tomorrow.
workloads?
I’m going to be a senior. all of my classes are going to be IB (like AP or honors, an international program thingie) I have to write an EE (extended essay, long paper thingie for IB) I have to apply to colleges, I’d like to do the things I usually do (theatre, cross-country, writing, reading, etc.)
I think I’ve scared myself.
Though I don’t mind the school bit, it’s the work bit I do mind. It’s sort of interesting to see the people you haven’t seen in a while. And then, next May or June or so you’re sick of them. Such is life.
but… this year I’m GRADUATING!
…aaaahhhhh…..
High School (!) for me! Joy. Come December, and you haven’t seen me on the blog since school started, you’ll know that I’ve died. No. Not seriously. But still…
I detest gym, too. Oh, I have many gym stories, including this one, which I think is rather amusing in a horrible way:
I’m doing this speech-talk thing in front of about one third of the skool, and parents (As long as I don’t have to talk to them, I’m fine…), and I make jokes about P.E. class, making, in general, fun of myself. And then, afterwards, the gym teacher comes up to me and is like “You dissed me three times in that speech! And you were actually good at archery!”
I mentioned volleyball in the speech too, but she didn’t say anything about that…
5- i don’t know how good your imagination is, but you could try envisioing your teachers as a muse and you as a different one…. like your teacher being urania right after koko’s pied her, or something of that sort. or, take eveyr lesson and transform it into an amusing museblog story. or convincesomeone that you need to transfer out. but you also might get lucky and get goi=od teachers- i hope so!
6- i sort of refuse to think about collage at the moment. i’m taking the most rigouous course my hs lets me take, i have steady extra curriculars, and i have a great interest in sciences. ‘ll deal with the rigors of collage when i get there.
you could always sklip doing hw? in some of my classes its optional (well, not really, but….) and in some i MUST do it or my teacher essentially pounds me into the dirt. hope you get “optional” hw.
7- and hw the heck our us underclassman suppsed to know? isn;t high school about finding who you are and what you want to be or something like that? who the heck decided we should kow already?
8- good luck to you! though from the horror stories i’ve heard junior year is the worst so if you survived that….
9- i would start your eulogy, but i have great faith in mbers to keep you alive and (in)sane.
wow. kindly ignore the many many typos and mixed up homophones in my last post. mark it up to lack of sleep.
8 -congrats on senior-ness! I wish my school had an IB program..
so, what is everyone taking?
I think this is mine (not in correct order)
AP Chem
AP English III (lang?)
Latin III honors
Programming I honors
Pre-cal honors
orchestra (honors, but I might drop it for AP Stat, depending how fed up I get with the teacher)
study hall
I had been also taking spanish, but neither of teh ap teachers are very good, so I decided to drop
I’m going to be starting high school on September 5. I can’t wait to see my friends, but I’m not so excited about my AP classes, because last year they were really, really hard and I still have to finish my summer reading.(I have to write summaries on half the chapters of the most boring book ever.)
We don’t get our schedules until the 28th, but tomorrow we get to go pick up all the fun, fun paperwork to fill out. And cross country practice starts.
These are the classes I signed up for:
World History
Earth Science
Clay 1
Orchestra
AP Geometry
AP English
Gym (just get it out of the way in my freshman year!)
I start on August 20th.
My classes:
Piano/Guitar
American Literature
Trigonometry
AP World History
Testing English / Testing Math
French 3-4
Chemistry
The only ones I had a choice in were my elective, P/G, and taking AP World History instead of plain old World History.
I’ve decided to start using quadrille notebooks instead of normal ones – I’ve taken quite a liking to writing on graph paper for no apparent reason.
10-Good idea, and thanks!!!!
We dont get to choose what we get to take at our middle school, but here are my classes anyway:
honors algebra 1
honors language arts (those are the only honors)
science
social studies
P.E.
Reading
Shop
Art
Computers
Health
Music (YAY!)
Spanish
Once again, they make us take all those classes. Its very confusing.
I start high school tomorrow. *sigh*
I’m taking:
Geometry
Honors English 9
American History
Latin I
Honors Spanish I
Sports Skills and Fitness
Culinary Skills
Forensics
Biology
I think that’s it, but I’m not sure.
GAH! I go back in a week! Zark save me!
Neh. I am so not ready for school to start. Band camp starts tomorrow though so… At least I’ll know some people to help me around the high school ’cause otherwise I’m getting sooooo lost because I’m going into 9th grade and the high school is HUGE! Yes I know, run on sentence. Did you know that 3 hours after we got out of school in June, my friend said funner? ’twas funny. Shows how much we forget. My mom used to make me do workbooks during the summer but now I don’t have to do any ’cause our school’s pretty good about making us remember stuff… (then again, funner…)
Where is Robert’s make homework interesting post? Hold on…
Here’s a how-to that should come in handy:
How to Make Boring Classes and Assignments Interesting
Two words: imagination and theatricality.
Suppose you’re studying a language and have to memorize one of those uninspiring dialogues they love to inflict on you. Make up a story about it in which every sentence becomes laden with deep, poignant meaning. Pull out all the stops and really pile on the emotion.
For example: “Hi, Anita. Like to go to the concert on Saturday?” Bland, humdrum, boring–until you add the emotionally charged back story (ECBS): You know Anita won’t go to the concert with you, and it’s breaking your heart. You’re crazy about her, and for a little while you thought she felt the same way about you. But she really likes your best friend, Carlos, and you know they’re getting together on Saturday. They haven’t told you they’re seeing each other, because they know how much it will hurt you, but they think you might suspect. It’s all bound to come out soon, but meanwhile you get a perverse enjoyment out of leaving them in suspense. Inviting Anita to the concert is just your way of twisting the dagger. In fact, you think you’ll insist–even beg her to come, just to make her squirm. So: “Hi, Anita. Like to…go to the concert on Saturday?” (Being girls, most of you will probably want to reverse the genders; I’m just telling you what works for me.)
Another example: You’re a clerk in a department store, helping a customer pick out a presents for his wife. Typical language-textbook fare. But what the people who wrote the textbook didn’t know is that…
…This guy isn’t just any customer; he’s a notorious gangster. Years ago, he masterminded the killing of your aunt and uncle and a whole bunch of your cousins, then disappeared. He’s in disguise, but you’d know him anywhere. You spotted him the minute he walked into the store, and you called the police. Now you have to stall him until they arrive. You’re desperately afraid that he’ll escape, so you have to do everything possible to avoid raising his suspicions. Now start the dialogue: “Good morning, sir. Can I help you?”
Free-conversation exercises are more challenging but also potentially more fun. In them, the trick is to say the opposite of what the teacher expects–even if it’s so preposterous that nobody could possibly believe it. Justifying your ridiculous assertion will give you great language practice, trust me.
Example:
Teacher (to Student 1): “Is it not beautiful weather outside?”
Student 1: “Yes…it…is…beautiful…weather…outside.”
Teacher (to Student 2): “Is it not beautiful weather outside?”
Student 2: “Yes…it…is…beautiful…weather…outside.”
Teacher (to you): “Is it not beautiful weather outside?”
You: “Oh, I don’t know. Sunny days always make me sad, for some reason. They’re so…merciless. I prefer rain. Rain really speaks to the soul, you know what I mean?”
Teacher: “……..”
I put this principle to work some time ago in a night class in French conversation at the local Alliance Française. At one point, the teacher went around the room asking everybody, “Where do you work?” When my turn came, I said: “I don’t believe in work. It is against my philosophy. I am an anarchist, and a student of life.” She never knew what hit her.
(Most of that was sheer nonsense, by the way. I had a perfectly good job, and I’m not an anarchist. I suppose I am a student of life, though it seems pretentious to put it that way–less so in French, maybe.)
The point of all this is not to make other students consider you an obnoxious git (though they will). In my experience, this contrarian approach stretches your mind more than routine drilling ever would, and makes classes much more interesting–for you, anyway. And that’s what really matters, isn’t it?
Oh, and my schedule ( I don’t know what order my classes will be in, I’m just listing them):
– Honors Pre-Calc
– Honors Chemistry
– Honors English II
– Spanish II
– 1 semester of Pyscology, 1 of Sports Medicine
– 1 semester Health, the other would be PE but I waved for marching band
– 15 minutes of Study Hall and 20 of Lunch (Soph and Fesh in one cafeteria, Jun and Sen in another. Seriously, they’re just asking me to sneak into the other one)
– Band
I’m sure I’ve forgotton something.
My classes, not in this order:
Earth science (8th honors)
French 1B
Accelerated art
1 semester of gym, 1 semester of health
Social studies
English
Lunch
Bus to high school for math
Math 9 honors
No music classes because they don’t fit in my schedule and because music school more than makes up for it.
I’ve done back to school clothes shopping. It has made me
broke, and I still owe my parents money. Sigh.
My school doesn’t start until September 5th.
I’ll go practice violin now.
13- Whee, AP Chem is fun! And also, you’re quite lucky to have Latin….
Here’s my schedule, again:
First Semester:
1. German I
2/3. Honours Prob & Stats
4. Lunch
5/6. Honours Engineering I ♥♥♥
7. AP English
Second Semester:
1. Honours Economics
2/3. Honours German II
4. Lunch
5/6. Honours Engineering II ♥♥♥
7. AP English
Engineering has the same teacher as does AP Chem. He’s brilliant and entertaining. I can’t wait. And we take the AP Physics exam at the end of it!
School. Where has the summer gone?
I’m kinda ready for it to end though. No more being constantly bored. But I still have the fiftenth and two weeks after that in California, and I’ll be meeting a friend I haven’t seen in four years.
I don’t know what order my classes are in but…
PreAl
Honors English
Honors History
Family & Consumer Sciences (whatever that means)
Spanish II
Flute II
Spectrum (GT)
Gym
Health II
Sex-Ed II
Because of Spectrum, I get to skip study hall!!!
Thank GOD for GT.
hmm… i’ve no clue what my schedual is yet though it should be coming soon.
I signed up for a lot of various classes which I’ll post later.
24- But… but… study hall is an amazing life-saver!
Warning: High-decibel scream of agony follows.
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, I go back to school on Monday. How did you know?
26- I would like to hae been able to skip study hall and take Art instead, as I don’t have time to take it normally, but I can’t anymore. They combined SH and lunch into one hour and lengthed the class times.
Here we go again. I DON’T WANNA LEAVE SUMMER!!
But on the bright side, I get new clothes and supplies because after THREE YEARS all of my stuff grew out of me! (Or…)
Anyway, These are my classes:
P.E. (Yuck)
Math (Yuck)
American History (HECK YES!!!!)
Spanish (HECK YES!!!!)
Advanced Language arts (HECK YES!!!!)
Science (Depends on the teach, last year’s teach was an evil demon walrus.)
Lunch (HECK YES!!!!)
Choir (HECK YES!!!!)
Oh. My. Well then. I haven’t actually signed up yet. Eep. I don’t know what I’m doing.
11-Well, thank you anyway! (XD)
29-An Evil Demon Walrus? Oh my. (I will resist the temptation to say that that reminds me of one of my former teachers. Oh yes, I shall. Really. I CAN DO IT!!!)
I haven’t gotten my schedule yet. Hmph. I want my schedule!!! I wonder if anyone at band camp will know when they come… They’d better come today! Everyone’s been waiting for like a week for them to come. I thought they were supposed to come the first or second week of August, but that didn’t really happen. Ugh. I want my schedule!!! *fumes*
When do people start going back to school? I go back on September 4th, which kinda stinks ’cause I don’t want to get out on like June 20 or something ’cause that’s my birthday. Not fun.
32- we don’t get our schedule until first day of school, we just get health forms, dress code, and who our homeroom teacher is and what room it is. We get back to school on the 4th (i think)
My classes however are:
English 12 IB
History of Europe IB
Physics 1 IB
TOK (theory of knowledge required for IB program. Philosophy sort of)
Spanish 6 IB
Advanced acting IB/ illusion theatre/ begining photography (one class per trimester)
though I know TOK’s first hour
eeew my school starts on the 6th of september, but my 8th grade yaer is going to be REALLy short- im going to India in October, Utah in november/ December (i have to ski before i move), and then in January, im moving to new zealand, and i’ll just skip into 9th grade because their school year starts in February! so yeah…
*gulp* It’s so . . . so . . . soon! I keep thinking that I have until the end of the summer to be ready, but since the end of the summer is three weeks from now, it’s not nearly long enough.
I must try Robert’s method of making boring classes interesting.
Spanish (I’m in with the tenth graders because I already know some and I didn’t want to sit through another year of “Ho-lah. Coh-mow es-taaaaan?”. This should be amusing.)
Mandarin Chinese. (this is new…)
Algebra 1 (basically review. Shuttup, I wanted an easy math grade for once…
Chemistry (hehehe…BOOM)
Social Studies (woo, and/or hoo.)
some other things I cant remember because my schedule has apparently joined the witness protection program and dissappeared on me. One thing I do remember is that on one day of the week I appear to have no lunch break. That’s not good. Not good at all. I hear textbooks taste really nasty.
7- me too, going into grqde 9 that is, last year i chose a different highschool than almost everyone at my school and my mom and i got asked so many times: “Why isnt Kagy going to the highschool?”…. ummm…. because im not…… he he he…… i found a better highschool….
Hmmm….. normal Highschool sounds rather boring….I’m going to an arts school. I went to an arts school for grades 4-8. he he he. but this year i actually get to choose the arts i take. im doing visual art, dance and drama. im basically droping music (except for flute) because I only took up piano and bass because i was sort of FORCED to. >sigh
WHAT HAPPENED TO THE REST OF MY POST???????????????
anyways it said:
>sigh
Lets see, I skipped 9th grade and I go to high school on the 27th. ugh.
I believe my workload to be thus:
AP Human Geography
Pre-calculus
AP Chemistry
French II
CAD
Something else
I guess this will be good. I am totally clueless as to the details.
I have no idea what order this is in. Robert’s homework, um, exciter is awesome!
40- CAD? As in that Computer Assisted Drawing goodness?
35-When does the school year end?
40 – AP Human Geography, if it’s taught well, is a really fascinating course. You learn a whole lot and it’s really interesting stuff. And it completely ruined my ability to ride in cars and tune out the world – now it’s “Ooh look, dispersed rural settlement pattern” and “EDGE CITY!!!” and “skyscrapers! That must be the CBD!” all the way.
23 – I’m really looking forward to chem – I had the teacher for Chem 1 last year and it was amazing. She’s a really cool, good, entertaining teacher.
my parents decided that I should send thank you notes to the people who interviewed me at colleges. I just wrote some but I feel like it’s an odd thing to do.
and for some reason my school’s decided to have summer assignments for the first time this year.
43- yay! chem! I took chem two last year and though I had to transition from one teacher to another I still enjoyed it imensely
I guess I’ll share my schedule, since I have no clue what else to say. Really, I’m not a school enthusiast anymore. At all. Skimming this thread, it seems like most everyone else is. Did I used to be like that? Um, I forget. But now I’m actually dreading school.
alrighty…
*digs around in the monstrosity that used to be my end table*
Ah, here it is.
Dear AMELIA LASTNAME:
You are eligible to purchase a parking permit for the–
Wait, that’s not it. *rummages some more*
… this is so frustrating. I cannot find it to save my life. Crap. However, I did dig up a ratty scrap with my partial, then-yet-to-be-finalized class list on it. And I think it’s the same thing they ultimately mailed me. So here’s my first trimester: (Yeah, trimesters, keep snickering. We have trimesters instead of quarters or semesters. It’s weird, but we only have 5 classes a day so nanny-nanny-boo-boo.)
Honors English 11
AP Physics
Honors Precalculus
AP American Government
Drawing and Design
44- yeah, I read in one of the “get into college” books that that was a good idea – it helps them to remember who you are, what you’re interested in, etc. Where did you interview?
I’m going to be a freshman. Hopefully I won’t die, as my high school despises freshmen with a burning rage. Anyway, my classes, not in order:
Gym (freshman gym is the root of all evil, according to some older friends)
Latin I (woot woot!)
Honors Geometry (geometry is the best kind of math!)
Honors English
Honors History (i think this lets me skip the rest of American history, of go through it very quickly, YES!)
Honors Science (BOOM)
History of Theater (according to rumors, this involves lip-synching)
Business Technology (it’s now mandatory for freshmen which stinks)
Words of wisdom from some older friends:
Never ask a student for directions, they just point randomly.
Don’t buy an elevator key or a pool pass.
Where you sit at lunch the first day is probably where you’ll sit forever.
You’re allowed to be late the first day, so be late.
For Pete’s sake walk on the right side of the hallway!
MY POSTS KEEP GETTING EATEN !!!!!!!!! what it said was *sigh* im gonna miss that bass. im going to have to make new friends….urgh…people sort of scare me…..but it wonnt be that bad
if this gets eaten again i will be anoyed
42- what do you mean when does my school year end???
47 – eh, don’t trust everything your older friends tell you. From my own experience, things shift around a lot in the first few days as everyone tries to get everyone else sorted out and figure out who’s in their lunch period, etc.
49-If it starts in Febuary, it must go longer than here. Or not, you never can tell…
45- Which Physics exam do you take with that? B or C? I dunno, maybe we could discuss stuff; I’m taking C. Mechanics, and then E&M.
51- this is basically the New Zealand school year
Term I Thursday, 8th February–Thursday, 5th April
Term II Monday, 23rd April – Friday, 29th June
Term III Monday, 16th July – Friday, 21st September
Term IV Monday, 8th October – Friday, 14th December
its good for going on vacations
50- But YOU’RE an older friend! Should we trust you?
I’m going to blatantly ignore everything anyone older than me says. Then I shall muddle my way through freshman year WITHOUT being horribly confused.
Okay, I’m not. I’ll take what my older friends say with a grain of salt.
My school starts in two weeks. I’ll be in 8th grade, which means that I have to go through all the 8th grade graduation stuff this year. (My school thinks that graduating from 8th grade is the most important thing you’ll ever do or something like that.) I haven’t gotten my schedule yet, but I’ll be taking…
gym (SAVE ME!!!)
late American history
language arts
ATP (equivalent to honors) humanities
online Latin II
online biology
online math (probably a mix of logic, interesting-looking topics such as probability, AMC prep, and possibly trig)
independent study period that I’ll probably use for spelling/science bowl/robotics
I also have music one quarter instead of an online class and I’ll do the online class at home that quarter.
52: I have absolutely no idea. But it’s the only AP Physics my school offers. I’ll check the handy-dandy course guide…
Don’t know if the class description means anything to you, but here it is…
“Open To: 11, 12
The advanced placement course is designed to reflect a first year college physics course. Students will study classical mechanics (including rotational and vibration mechanics), energy, work, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, electricity and magnetism, wave motion, optics, relativity, quantum physics, nuclear physics, and radiation.”
Aaaaaand now I’m stressed out.
my school is horrible- here’s my 8th grade schedule
Accelerated math (aka genius math how did i get in that?)
lang. arts
french
Gifted and Talented (ha! this is a joke- they pull you out of class so you can watch movies and color. isn’t that what you do in Special Ed? i mean come on!)
Gym
Health
Cooking/ Art/Computers (you get a new one each trimester)
Science
Social studies
Band ( i want to quit this, but my mom made a huge fuss and said i would go on drugs if i quit??? )
at least we have almost no homework. ………….
do you have to do 40 volonteer hours in highschool in the USA?
54 – well, keep in mind that I go to a completely different school and so my experiences may well be completely different, but yes, you should trust me. And do everything I say. mwahahaha
But I am glad that you consider me a friend.
52 – have you taken the Physics B test? I’m considering taking it my senior year, although I won’t be taking the class – I’ll be taking pre-ap physics 1, which is basically Physic B without a few chapters. I think some of my friends did that (took preap and then took the AP test)… must check how they did on AP tests..
Has anyone taken the enviro sci AP test? I’m going to take it this year, but I’m not taking the class. I’ve heardr it’s really easy, though – apparently that, psych, and APHG are the easiest tests. And I’m also considering studying on my own and taking AP Music Theory – has anyone done that?
47- If you have to ask someone where to go, you could always try a teacher.
And as Lizzie said, things sift for the first week or so as people figure out who’s there and get schedules changed. But once you find a spot, it’s easier just to stay there because then you know where to meet your friends, and people won’t often take it and leave you stranded.
Or, if you go to my school, the teachers decide to rearange all the tables, and take away the table my friend and I sat at altogether. Not cool. I contemplated getting people to help me move the cheerleaders table to where ours used to be before lunch, but it never planned out.
I happened to love 8th grade. Not so much the begining of Freshman year, but I had a really bad first day (don’t want to remember it… it’s on last years school thread), which is unlikely to be as bad this year.
Also, we aparently have a tennis match on the first day of school. And a few before school starts. Hmm.
58-Somebody (not online) asked me that before. And I had to tell them that I didn’t know. And I still don’t know. I’m guessing not.
Sixth grade was my favorite year, I think. Or Kindergarten, or second grade. But I don’t think those count.
58 – it depends on the individual school.
62/63- thanks, well, you HAVE to do them up here or you dont graduate. I’m going to do mine at the library.
56- Sounds like fun.
59- Nope, and sadly, it’s offered at the same time as part one of Physics C. I’m sure you’d do well, though.
I’m taking one of the AP English exams this year. Don’t remember which, because I don’t care all that amazingly much about English. I just know it’s the one that only some colleges count. Meh. I’m also taking the Calc BC test and Physics C. Wheee.
*still counting down*
Oh god, my best friend starts tomarrow… man… I’d fogotten.
I’m taking IB tests this year. I took some last year too… And those absolutely thrilling (note the sarcasm) ACTs and SATs. This year I think I have to do the SAT IIs… whoo hoo.
66- yikkes!!!!!!!!!!
Wheee, SAT IIs. Three in one day, so I can make early application deadlines!
I’m pretty sure we do ACTs. I took it last year for prractice and did rather well, took the SAT in 6th grade though. Our class (advansed) got invited to take it at this school, only we all had different times and there were people actually taking it while we were there. I can only imagine what they’d thought when they walked in and saw little kids taking the test with them… man.
I think we do Ohio Achievment Test. They keep changing it though, so I’m not sure. Grr. I’m probably not going to be able to join drama club. It runs from 3-9 PM and after a few weeks it’s every day. Shockingly I have things that I have to do every day between 3 and 9. Those things are taekwondo and guitar. Maybe they’ll change the hours this year, as they seem to be changing everything else.
i’m going into 9th….homeschooled though. my mum might put us into public, but not unless something crops up. man, i probably should go to public. don’t want to be one of those protected “homeschoolers”….ick. but i’m not that pathetic. i’m kinda young to go into hs, because i don’t turn fourteen until september ninth. thats a few days after our schools start.
72- Don’t worry about that. I didn’t turn fourteen until 18 September when I was a freshman. Doesn’t make so much of a difference.
I feel youngish. I’m only going into 7th but I’m in the IB program so I get to do 8th and 9th grade course work.
Creative writing. YES!!
Drama. YES YES YES
Pre-Biology. Ick
English. Because of Winn Dixie for summer reading? My sister’s reading that and she’s going into second. I read Jane Eyre. Ick (english, not Jane Eyre. Jane Eyre is good,)
Algebra 1 Yay
German. Fun Fun Fun
Geography YES. I am a nerd
Choir ok, all girls.
heres what i get to do in 8th grade
geometry (YES) i’m a total math geek
spanish (everyone does this)
and everything else uninteresting
74-hey i read jane eyre last year. i also read some jane austen
jammin j- that is soooooo cool that you’re a homeschooler!!! i just went into public school last year. my parents decided to put me into 7th grade insted of 8th (i way could of been) because then i’m 19 when i go to college. the best thing is i (the total science and math geek) get to take advanced courses and thus give me time for dual enrolment.(go to college in high school for FREE)
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHG.
The 4 new tennis courts, which were supposed to be ready last week, won’t be done till October 15. Grr.
On an odd note, the cement/construction site alternatingly smells like manure and butterscotch/carmel iced coffe/cupcake frosting. Reason why has yet to be discovered.
This is my schedule. We’re on EVIL block, so I’ll lable everything under semesters…………………
1st semester: French 1, Geometry H. English H, World History H
2nd semester: Biology H, Chorus, Art, PE
Oh! Sorry to double post, but I’m SO nervous about Chorus! I’m in the Madrigals group! I’m the first freshman girl ever to make it in! :nervous:
my schedule, with informative notes on each subject…
1. AP Gov-getting it first thing in the morning isn’t too good, but i’ve heard it’s really easy. fingers crossed.
2. study hall (?!?!?)-They put latin 3 and torch at the SAME TIME so i can’t take latin!!!! nooo, i’m going to die without doc…his class was my study hall. but so this means i have another period to fill up, which i’ll most likely do with Brit lit and world religions (both are semester long classes) (I can’t take study hall again. it was somewhat of a disaster last year. of course, i’ll have more hw to do this year probably, but even so, nolan and almos probably already hate me enough )
3. Hon. chem-i’m sooo scared because the three other people i know are taking it aren’t in my class. i still don’t know about yeti, but so far it looks like i’m all alone with a bunch of sophomores, and apart from a few exceptions, i’m really not a fan of the sophomore class in general. why this is, i don’t know, but they all seem to be complete prats. any other class you ask will agree on this, even the freshmen. So. fingers crossed for that too. Also, i’m not too happy about having it in the morning.
4. Band! of course.
5. AP Lang/Comp-SO glad i got hemmelgarn. Lisa’s also in this class (and AP gov) so i’m glad i won’t be all alone. Dunno where hewitt is, but he might be in this one too. (i don’t really hang out with most of my fellow AP/honors peoples. i’m really not a fan of preps, and most of them are)
6. Precalc-i have mccreary for this, the one math teacher in our school who’s not a creepy old man (by way of being a woman) i find this extremely refreshing. who knows, maybe she even won’t be a pedo. i’ve never had her before, but andy and jacob have and they seemed to like her all right.
7-Torch (the newspaper)-difficult choice, but torch is something you have to apply to be on, and there are people who didn’t make it in, and if i gave it up for latin they’d probably kill me before the day was out. besides, i like horger and i like journalism.
78) That’s so cool though! Good luck!
Ok, so I was going to read the thread but then I noticed how long it was.
I started school last monday. It was ok. This is the first year school has really not excited much emotion in me at all.
My classes:
honors chemistry
honors algebra 2 trig.
wind ensemble (ie BAND!!!)
AP european history (amazing class. absolutely amazing)
spanish 4
lunch (by this time I’m nearly starving)
free period (it was going to be Challenge Ropes but I didn’t get in)
honors english
(5 Dancergirl13) Yes, I have had pretty bad luck with teachers. Mostly it’s because the my district school board is somewhat (by which I mean extremely) tyrannical and enslaved by rich parent donors, which leads them to do lots of aweful things that drive off all our good teachers and bring in second rate ones who can’t get jobs anywhere else.
Bleh.
(47 Unintended Pun) Yep, that’s all pretty much good advice.
To all you incoming freshman: have fun. What I can say about my experience was, while it wasn’t always fantastic, it sure beat Middle School
IM NOT READY!
school starts monday!
*panick*
i still have a book to read!
82- Are you new?
LotBC was on the blog a lot last October, starting here. Then she disappeared for a while. Now, like many others, she’s back. Welcome!
YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *pies LotBC* Welcome back!!!
Reasons I Shouldn’t Have Left My Dad To Fill Out My School Forms:
-Have missed adv. party and tour of campus (was at camp)
-Have no elective, and am missing a class
-Missed party at Senior Helper’s house (was at camp)
-Have NO idea what school supplies I need (will collect information on the 1st day)
On the other hand, he did buy me a Spider-Man 3 notebook to write what school supplies I need on, so that’s OK. Also he faxed in all the health forms, so that’s allright.
My classes, not in any order:
Symphonic Orchestra (cello)
French II
Spanish I
Math B Honors
Chemistry Honors
American History Honors
English Honors
Gym/chem. lab period.
Lunch (I tried to drop for art or ap pysch, but my guidance counselor mumbled something about a workload limit. To be quite frank, art is much more relaxing than lunch w/o friends. They’re all in ap psych )
And I’m forgetting something.
Geology 121 (Independent research class for college credit)
Hahaha. My friend, who started school on thursday, told me they had already had a dance. I kid you not, there was a ‘Welcome back to School’ dance on friday. I found that amusing.
i just got a green backpack and put all my uglydoll keychains on it and my sandra boynton pins and of course right in the middle a kokopelli for president pin!
got my schedule yesterday:
chem 2 ap – yay, I had this teacher last year and love her
study hall – yay, after chem so I can do chem homework/study for tests later in day
programming honors – my brother had this teacher and liked her
varsity orch (honors)- not my favorite class, but I’m concertmaster and can pretty much do whatever I like within reason
english III ap – this teacher is cool also
latin III honors – I love this teacher also and it’s really easy
precal preap – eh, none of the teachers are that good but it’s really easy.
I’ve got my schedual now!
Voila:
TOK IB (philosophy like class)
English IB
Physics IB
History of Europe IB
French 6 IB/Illusion Theatre/Advanced Acting
Spanish 6 IB
and that’s my schedual. the /s are to indicate different trimesters.
7 ~ Same here. It’s like, I’m fourteen. College is barely in the picture at this point. (Not to pretend I haven’t thought about it, but I’d be fooling myself if I’d decided already.
14 ~ Wait. Let me get this straight. You’re allowed to take APs in freshman year? And you took them last year, too? O_O
I kind of stopped reading through after that. We’re not getting our schedules until next week but I’m taking all the honors classes that they offer, which I think are English, History, Geometry, and Biology. I’m also taking Spanish II, gym (which I am not a huge fan of, especially because we’re going to have to do pool and I’m a horrible swimmer, and I’m just bad at sports in general), band, orchestra, and voice I. I’m sure I left something obvious out. Oh, and I won’t have a lunch period.
I don’t want to go to school. Especially because I don’t know how to say I’m an anarchist and a student of life in Spanish.
and 91 ~ Sounds like you’ve got some really interesting classes.
92- I could see if I can figure out something. Let’s see. “Soy una anarquista y una estudiante de la vida.
Someone should compile a list of interesting phrases to liven up language lessons.
“Where do you live?”
“I’m not alive. I’m one of the walking dead.” (A boy actually said that in one of my high school Spanish classes. Another boy, oddly enough.)
88- Haha, those are silly. I’ve gone to one, because I was literally dragged there by some friends. It was so boring.
94- Heehee. I officially get my schedule tomorrow, but I know my classes because I spent an entire morning on the phone with a guy at the school, fixing my schedule. I have German for the first time. I’ll probably be with almost all freshmen. It’ll be fun. I have a picture of Nietzsche’s face shopped onto Superman’s body with the caption “Ubermensch” [forgive the lack of umlaut] to tape onto my German notebook.
95- yeah, I only have my schedual because I walked in and asked for it. Most of the scheduals are being mailed tomorrow. I just asked for mine early.
Oh man oh man I got honors chemistry! How did that happen? I had a B- first semester and a B second semester in Biology, and it wasn’t honors Bio either. Whoaaaaaaa. Maybe it was a computer error! XD
So it’s PE, AP Euro, Chemistry Honors,Language Arts 2 Honors, Web Design, Japanese 2 Honors (akjdvnajbv so excited for this) and Algebra 2. *___* Oh I need luck and lots of hard work this year!
94) Haha, I love that idea XD I’m so using that to help myself with math, somehow.
94- I AM USING THAT. YESYESYES. A (A=person) won’t quit trying to find out where I live, mostly because I won’t tell her. That’s a phrase I havn’t used to evade the question yet.
I start on the 27th!!!!!!!! My first day of middle school! How is middle school? Is it awful? Fantastic? Please will someone explain p.e. uniforms?
72- i’m going into 9 and I don’t turn 14 untill october 16.
78- CONGRATS!!!!!!!!
I posted my schedule in the random thread but now I’ll post it here too.
Voice I
PE (ACE semester 1)/pool (ACE semester 2)/Bio H Lab (BDF)
Biology Honors
Geometry Honors
Spanish II
Global 9 Honors
Symphonic Band (ACE)/Orchestra (BDF) (or the other way around, Iunno)
English 9 Honors
I know the first and last two periods should be good, at least. And mixed chorus is ninth. So last three. That’s something!
99 ~ Gosh, I’m not really the right person to ask because now that I’m a ninth grader middle school is behind me and I hate seventh graders on principle. xD (Actually, the latter was true last year, also, although I didn’t mind seventh graders when I was one. Looking back I hate myself as a seventh grader, though…) Middle school is SO exciting when you’re a sixth grader! My sixth grade year was awesome. Don’t worry about getting lost or not being able to open your locker, because the teachers are always really accommodating and helpful about that sort of stuff and it works out really quickly. But by the time you’re an eighth grader, you’ll be so ready to move on! I didn’t cry at all when I left even though I’m going to miss some of the teachers a lot.
72 + 100 ~ It’s not young unless you don’t turn fourteen until, like, late November. Although it is fun to tease people who are still thirteen. Two of my best friends (twins) skipped a grade so they won’t be fourteen until next July! Hahaha… xD
♪♫Hi-ho, hi-ho, it’s off to school I go! ♪♫
I finished my work at 4am today. A mere two hours ago. I’m rather pleased with myself.
I got my schedule today – and I start school tomorrow. *Sigh.*
First Semester:
Block A: Algebra 2 CAS (Centers for Advanced Study – the Honors/Gifted program at my school)
Block B: Chemistry CAS
Block C: World Cultures CAS
Rest-of-the-day: Literary Arts (schedule yet to be received)
Second Semester:
Block A: Spanish 4 CAS
Block B: Gym/Health
Block C: English 2 CAS
Rest-of-the-day: Literary Arts (schedule yet to be received)
And that, ladies and gentleman, is my schedule.
I left my schedule at the other house and I can’t remember what exactly I had. I think it went something like this:
First Semester:
English 9 (I want to get in Honors English, but I have to start here)
P.E.
Pre-Algebra
Spanish 1
Playbuilding
Integrated Science
Freshman Transitions
Reading/Advisory
Second Semester:
English 9 (I think)
P.E.
Pre-Algebra
Integrated Science
Freshman Transitions
Spanish 1
[some elective, probably theater-related]
Reading/Advisory
And I have the stage as a homeroom, which is awesome, and a really confusing schedule, which is not so awesome.
I start school next wednesday. I’m about to be in high school and I’m going to get so lost. I had a dream last night involving the map of the school and a lady telling me that I need to pray. EEP! Interesting language things:
Where is the bathroom?
Go left and you’ll see the interstellar portal, enter it and the bathroom is right there.
Learn the following in any language in case you don’t understand the question: What’s that? I’m hard of hearing!
105- Yeah, that’s probably not too far off the mark. Interstellar portals, desperate prayers…
I have never been in school before. I am terrified, and excited, and my mind is sort of denying the fact that I’m going to get up on Wednesday, get dressed, eat something and get on the bus. Maybe by the time Tuesday rolls around and I have orientation it’ll sink in. But GOSH! I’m going to have to get up at SIX O’ CLOCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *faints dead away*
Yes, I’ve lived in the lap of luxury for 14 years, and I’m going to be thrust suddenly into the mouth of the gruesome creature known as School, a living sacrifice to the beast of Conformity.
Yes, I’ve changed my mind about metaphor. Obviously.
106: Part of me is jealous of you — that you get to go to public school for high school. I don’t. I’m not allowed. Half of me really wants to and half of me is glad to be homeschooled still.
Tell me what it is like! Best wishes!
My World Cultures textbook today didn’t have a number in it (you sign them out and the teacher writes down your number…), so I got to pick it! So now I have book #42!
School is ok for me right now, but it could get ugly when they actually get to know us. Ug. How is everyone elses? I didnt actually read the whole thread, sorry, I read the ones that caught my attention. I havnt been here in a whil.
I started school last monday. I’m going to an art school in Israel. And so far, it is fun!!!
So hey, i realized i haven’t updated since i got my schedule changed/since i actually have been to the classes. so here comes another long boring rant, for those of you who are more inclined to skip long boring rants. Actually, if you’re not fond of long boring rants it’s better to just not read my posts on general principle. that being said, here’s my long boring rant (i know i said i was going to read my muse, and it’s calling to me…absolutely faskinating-looking…but i’m going to do this post first so there. The man be stuck, yo)
1-AP gov-Mallory, as bill so aptly puts it, is messerly on speed. To which i usually add she is actually somewhat intelligent and aware of her surroundings. (if you haven’t heard me talk about messerly, i think you can still grasp my general opinion of her). Fun class, basically all we do is read boring stuff we learned in third grade and then debate politics.
2-Hon. chem-Flores is basically my life. Hard class, but incredibly fun, the first science class i’ve had in AGES where you actually have to think, and i believe the only science class i’ve ever had where you have to think hard. Flores doesn’t give us answers, he leads us to them, and if you’re not paying attention, you’re screwed. you can’t just read somebody’d notes, because half the time our “taking notes” doesn’t really involve writing much of anything down, just figuring out what we should write down (which takes longer, but you learn something along the way) In any normal year this would be my favorite class, but with this year it’s a tough decision.
3-Brit lit-hemmel is also my life (i have far to many lives for somebody who doesn’t have any at all). He’s really funny and he can understand our obscure teenage references (side story-funniest picture i’ve ever gotten from a story-brendle asks what cradle of filth is. bill shouts “a british death metal band!” brendle asks what death metal is. bill attempts to explain. i almost wish i were in that class, just so i could’ve been there. but not quite) and even make them (are my parentheses ever hard to read? do you guys ever forget what i was saying at the beginning of my sentence before i branched off into something completely different? (haha, monty python yay) Life would be a lot easier if my fingers moved as fast as my thoughts. Anyhoo. now that you’ve probably forgotten what i was saying before, you’d better go back up and find the beginning of the sentence again. Skip the parentheses this time. But then, you’re all reasonably intelligent, you’ve probably figured that out already. And now i’m stuck. i do believe i’ve forgotten the beginning of my sentence as well. i’d better go back and figure out what it is before i continue. And ending this side rant might be nice). More on hemmel at AP l/c since i spent way too much time ranting about parentheses
4-BAND! ’nuff said
5-AP lang/comp-hemmel again. basically like brit lit, except with some practice AP tests and all sorts of stuff, not just british stuff. less history too. So more about hemmelgarn, he does a quote of the day and useless fact every day, and if you read them to the class you get a piece of candy (and not just some little hard candy thing either…you get caramel hershey kisses!). He reads out loud from a book for three minutes before the beginning of class (except on four-minute fridays) and he has a bunch of books to read after tests and stuff that he lets you check out and take home if you want. And now we get to the climax-the bathroom pass. His bathroom pass is the coolest thing EVER. it’s this little thing that when you flip it over, it drips a different colors something-or-other down to the bottom. it’s like some weird gel stuff that bubbles up and forms little blobs, and the containers are full of liquid so even when they don’t have colored bubbly stuff in them they’re yellow, not clear. Other than that, it’s impossible to describe. Watching it drip is the most amusing thing ever.
6-Precalc. McCreary’s cool, the first cool math teacher i’ve had since denton (8th grade). i’ve only had those two cool math teachers. mccreary gives you extra points for homework based on how much you do, but doesn’t take away points for not doing it, and she has you check yourself and only ask her if you have a q that the book doesn’t answer. so if you’ve got loads of hw and no time to do it, you can just do it the next night instead, and still know what you need to know for the test, and all that happens is you miss out on some extra points. we work in groups a lot too.
7-Torch-horger. she’s basically amazing. i had her last year for journalism. she’s kind of like hemmel in that she can joke with us and understand our strange teenager references to strange teenager things. Torch is basically a study hall, except you have to write stories and then stay after school for a week putting stuff together. You can go interview people and take pictures during torch, or you can do that at other times and do hw then, or go talk to other teachers if you need help with something. It’s study hall without a study hall teacher being stupid and making you stay quiet and in your seat.
It’s not that I don’t like reading long boring rants, it’s just that I can’t follow what’s being said, what with the endless paragraphs and the motley assortment of capital and lowercase letters.
So. Yesterday was the last day of summer vacation. *cries* Now it’s just Labor Day weekend. God. School starts tuesday. I wish we were getting our schedules and lockers before school started. I’m not ready for this. Oh man…
111-
3. Those parenhisses were the most confusing you’re yet done, I think. Have some choklit. I did go back and find out what the sentence had been, but then got lost s you told me to go back and do so.
5. Oh, I love those gell-things. And a quote of the day is cool.
6. I’ve always wanted to know how that kind of homework system works out. You’ll have to tell later if it does.
7. What exactly is Torch?
112-haha, i hear you. i even confuse myself
I start on Tuesday.
And it will be insane.
My new school (moved districts) is five times the size of my old one.
I’m doing a bunch of theatre stuff. Yumm.
I got a red China star messenger bag. It’s pretty.
I got a new Sharpie.
I’m carpooling with my friends/neighbours.
…and I really, really think summer went way too fast for my liking, and it was amazing and memorable, but I wish I had more of it…and that I didn’t have to go to school, and a lot of other things.
*cries*
111- I shall read that eventually. You write a ton on your school classes… hehe…
I started school last Monday and got sick on Tuesday, so it was a bad way of starting off high school. Now I’m a few days behind. It’s rather discouraging since the school year just began. I’ll just work my tail off and catch up!
113-the newspaper, sorry
no, it is a class where we burn things that are flammable! wewt!
111- That is why I adore chemistry even though I got a four because I missed a MONTH of class… Still, the subject is awesome. Huzzah for actually applying concepts! How revolutionary!
You know what I hate? Annoying people who don’t meet the intelligence qualifications for the higher-level classes but are still somehow in them. Yes, this is indeed going to be a pompous, self-important SM rant; please ignore my temporarily-incredibly-huge ego.
Well, you already heard most of it on the random thread, thankfully. This is going to be my Honour-Roller versus Geek/Nerd rant. I forget where, exactly, I picked up the “Honour-Roller” stereotype [albinoblacksheep, I think] but it works for what I’m talking about. As Geeks/Nerds, you should all get what I’m saying.
Firstly, there are the Honour-Rollers [abbr.: HRs] who are of about average intelligence [near the middle of the curve, whatever] but mostly memorize and spit back things. Get irrationally high grades due to excessive [obsessive] amounts of studying. However, they’re not so great with practical applications and abstract theorizing. Very grade-obsessed but still into school.
On the other hand there are the Geeks/Nerds [abbr.: G/Ns] who do well in school, more out of natural smarts than studying, which they only do in the particular subject[s] they find fun. Definitely concerned with grades, but not so much that they’ll die over a 92 or something.
I’m complaining about the top category; G/Ns are chill with me. I’m going to do my complaints along with my schedule.
1-German I: basically no one cares about this class but caring isn’t a requirement so I’m not all worked up about it. It’s a very “whatever” class, and easy for absolutely anyone and everyone.
2-Honours Prob and Stats- Almost nobody seems to grasp the concept of graphing on a TI-84, no matter how many times the teacher explains a simple histogram. Then they whine for the rest of class while the 7 or so people who know what they’re doing either play games on their calculators or have fun with the drawing function on them [pretty good for stick figures!] This class is a joke and I expect everyone to get a 97-100 in it.
3- Honours Engineering- URGH. Okay, I love the teacher to death. He’s brilliant and funny. It’s rare a high-level science teacher can keep a class’s attention so well. However, there’s the class to contend with. My two major complaints are persons A and B. Person A is an HR who thinks that A’s [I’m not going to be gender-specific on either of them] the most brilliant person ever. He got a 4 on the AP Calc, so he can’t be bad. Then again, the Calc teachers prepared us so much that not getting a 4 or 5 was nearly impossible. Anyway, he was the kid asking about the SOHCAHTOA problem and also one of the annoying kids in my Prob/Stats class. Person B is the most pretentious attention-seeker I know. B nods and comments to B’s self after basically every other sentence the teacher says. B is one of the HRs who get all sugary but obviously resentful when anyone scores higher than them. I and two other kids in the class fall into this category. B annoys me and at least one of them [person C]. I don’t know what I’d do there without C, with whom I talk online after class about how annoying everything is. Heehee, we’re both so pompous. Back to B. B is also an obsessive grade-comparer and study-inquirer. Urgh. One of those people who are all “there is no way” or “that’s not fair” when someone does something like read a book the night before it’s due, or does ungodly well without studying like mad, or understands and finds easy some homework B spent forever on. *eyeroll*
4- AP English- Welcome to the home of the pseudo-intellectuals. You know, those “literary types” who go on and on about books using every cliché known to humankind and several known to apes as well. You know exactly what I’m talking about. They all speak in that same, self-important tone [yes, I’m aware I’m using it in this post, I’m sorry, okay? I’m just annoyed and this is what happens when I’m annoyed. I’m really quiet though sarcastic in person] and point out the blatantly obvious about the books as if they’ve brilliantly deduced something. Someone just like B is in that class and also comments on everything… There aren’t many people even in that class [10] so it’s even worse, because 6/10 people do that, & I and the other three just gave up on talking there.
Okay, end rant. Yeah, after only 3 days of school.
118- Let me join!
Oh god. School starts tomarrow. I’m not ready… I was really depressed when school ended, and now I’m sad summers almost gone too… urrrrgh.
I wish I had my schedule. I hope we get them really soon tomarrow. I only know of one other person in my meeting room (no schedules+lockers=they have to asign us a classrom to go to to get them), K, who I’m sort of friends with. But she dropped band, and so must be punished as there are now only 2 soph flutes, one of whom is thinking of dropping and the other would go with her. So I’d be the only flute in my grade. I’d die on senior night. Maybe he’d let me draft Casey (a cool feshman).Urg. Rant soon to come. Tomarrow afternoon to be precise.
Or not, atucally. I have a tennis meet the first 3 days of school and hockey practice tuesday and wednesday. See you all in November.
Ahh I start as a freshman on the 5th. I’m excited to take electives and all honors since the middle school only has honors math and english. I’m also excited to see my friends. I’m dreading everything else. Escpecially freshman death gym.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Orientation is tomorrow. I hoped that the above scream would relieve my panic somewhat, but it didn’t. Take a deep breath…and another…
Oh my god. I’m so scared. I think I’m going to start hyperventilating if this keeps up. I need to get off this thread.
122- don’t worry about it, would the school expect students to be able to do something that they can’t? but I guess I was just as nervous before going into middle school and the Academy, my little brother is going into middle school and he missed orientation…you’ll be fine.
(122, 123) I’m sure Alice will be more than fine. It will be interesting to hear about school from the point of view of someone who has never experienced it before. Alice will be like an anthropologist studying an exotic culture. I look forward to reading her reports.
Thanks, guys.
121 ~ My sentiments exactly! Except I’m not dreading quite everything else. I am going to get lost though. Luckily I got Sip to show me where my classes are again today, so I at least remember more or less where my homeroom is. After that I’m sure I can find someone to help me in the halls and stuff. I don’t know what to do seventh because I have both band and orchestra then. I’ll probably go to band first because I know the orchestra director pretty well and then Olivia (the other band/orchestra person), the band director, and I can figure it out from there. Yikes.
(126) Starting in junior high, I Rebecca always scouted out the school before opening day and memorized the locations of all my her classrooms and other important places. Good thing, too, because at first she was too clueless to realize that rooms beginning with “2” were on the second floor.
She did the same for graduate school, new jobs, and so on. The routine always made her feel more at ease that first day, not like the newbie she so often was. In fact, other newbies often mistook her for an old hand and asked her for directions.
127 ~ Margaret doubts that anyone will ask her for directions anywhere, being a clueless and somewhat short freshman (freshchick! haha), but hopefully she won’t have to ask too many people herself. The numbering systems at her new school are very confusing and complicated, owing in part to the fact that there are five buildings and she can’t seem to remember which building is which and which has what numbers and so on, but she does know where her homeroom is now, and more or less what direction she should go to find the other classes. Sort of.
She remembers an occasion in sixth grade when she went outside at lunch and came in through the door leading to the science wing, where she’d never been before. It was terrifying because her next teacher was likely to give her detention if she was late, but she miraculously made it past the towering eighth graders and back to HACS class before the bell. It’s very comical now because her middle school was so small!
(128) Rebecca sympathizes. She started junior high in Southern California, where the architects decided oh what fun it would be to divide classrooms into as many separate buildings as possible. The modules contained four rooms each and were sprinkled seemingly at random around the campus.
The rainy season was great fun.
128-man-gator wonders if the freshchick joke comes from foxtrot. It sounds familiar to him.
Alice’s schedule is murderous-looking. Mondays will be terrible, because she has seven classes.
Alice has retrieved her schedule and will now post it.

She also gets out an hour early on Thursday, even though 2:30 does not look so early against her sister’s 1:45 Thursday release.
Alice is dreading Mondays. She notes that she does not use so many contractions while speaking in third person.
On day 1 i have:
Canadian geog. (homeroom)
Math
Lunch
French
English
On day 2 I have:
Drama
Dance
Science
Art
So… first day of school. The first part of the morning was scary. The gr.9’s had to go to the auditorium to get their scheduals and stuff. my home room was 302 and I was pretty sure it was on the second floor, but I didn’t know how to find a staircase. I stood infront of the auditorium for 10ish minutes because I didn’t know where to go and asking people would be scary. I finaly asked this nice looking girl where to go and she told me. My homeroom teacher Mr. somethign is nice enough. Then we all went to our period one day2 class. mine was drama. we played a game where you learn stuff about people. then i went to dance. I don’t need ballet shoes for a while but I have two left shoes ballet shoes (GAH) because i lost one. and i can’t ask for new ones because i just got new ballet shoes at the end of the year….urgh…. after dance was science. my science teacher is SCARY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i’m not kidding. Then we went to art, it was basicaly attendence and stuff and then I went home because it was only half day.
yeah! in music we heard the llama song!
First day of freshman. It wasn’t nearly as disorienting as I thought it would be. I didn’t actually get lost, but I took the longest possibe way to some classes. My teachers are hilarious. My History of Theater teacher started talking to us in Spanish and tried to get everyone to think they were in the wrong class. My English teacher told us not to outside during a tornado because our limbs will graduate with the Cardinals. (the mascot of the neighboring town)
Also, in 121 gym wasn’t supposed to be slashed, but I’m a wimp at HTML.
[The HTML gnome was in a helpful mood and took care of it.]
Oh my. Well, my schedule has changed. *confused* Obviously more was messed up than Acting turning into Playbuilding.
all the people in my classes look 19, it’s realy scary. the guy who sits next to me in frnch (dynasty boy) looks realy old. i can’t believe he’s 14. but he seems nice.
I’m scared of people. This is a bit of a problem, and when asked to pick a partner I try to pick someone who looks just as new and confused as me.
137-wouldn’t you both just end up more confused, then? Shouldn’t you get more info from more experienced people?
138- Well, we’re all freshmen. The only real difference is that the “more experienced people” know each other. And they tend to swear more. I don’t mind people swearing normally, but it can be a little disturbing in school. I guess I’ll get over it eventually.
134- Oh! Is he like the refrigerator gnome? (Yay Good Eats!)
So. First day of school yesterday. Second today. Tennis match both days (lost both) and hockey on tuesday, so this is the first chance I’ve had to come on. I’ll post a review with all the classes and such later.
139- true, even me, even though I’ve already graduated, because I’m new in my school.
I like most of my classes, except for painting. It is so boring! I have been reassured that it will get better, but it is still annoying, especially when we are supposed to draw something and not finish it!
Alice-you are not alone. i just got put into public school. i also sat in the lap of luxury for 14 years. i also was just as confused as you. my school (yep, i’m already possesive) is a huge 70 million dollar bad boy. 3 stories, 1600+ kiddos. a veritable nightmare. 400 freshman alone at orientation. we started the last tuesday in august(don’t know the date). my schedule:
English Honors 9
Biology Honors 10
Algebra S1
French Honors
Phys-Ed S2 (2nd sem)
Electronics S1
MdnWldHsty Honors
Study-(1st sem?)
everyday i have 5 subjects and a study. the schedule is enourmously confusing. my teachers are all weird. talk about nervous making. strangely, i was not in the least scared on the first day of school, even though i had been told repeatedly i was going to get picked on. so long to the good old days of homeschooling. *sigh*
Wow. At least you got into Honors classes. How on EARTH? I couldn’t do it without a teacher recommendation, and since my parents were my teachers, I didn’t have one.
143-really? that’s a pretty stupid rule, imho. i was in two honors classes when i first moved without recommendations
137- people scare me too! does your school have a good library? that’s where I llurk during lunch.
dynasty boy is an artist too. at least we have stuff to talk about. for some reason we have france french not canadian french.
I don’t like the health class. It’s much too personal, like going to a psychiatrist. Isn’t it ironic that the class trying to teach physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, etc. health is actually scarring me for life, or at least to the point where picking up the textbook scares me?
143- there will be a time when you won’t want to be in Honors classes.
My schedule:
Music Theory(s1)/Songwriting(s2)
Honors Algebra 2
French 3
Lunch
Honors English 10
Honors Chemistry
Gym/1-day-a-week chem lab
AP US History 1(It’s a two year class)
This is the first weekend of the school year, and I had homework in 4 classes, including outlining two chapters in my History textbook. Honors classes are serious work, which will leave you very little social time. Or maybe I’m just stressed and being grouchy.
Aw, I’m sorry.
146- through the years i have been trained for health class, i’ve had it since gr6. but now its over HAHAHAHAHA. i am ever so pleased
147- If you think Honors is hard, try IB. I’ve already had two essays and an english journal as well as notes for two other classes. Yup. It’s not that bad though, once you’re used to it.
What’s IB?
1- Honors PreCalc, S***. Starting off the year with algebra, uhhhhg. Did homework for this weekend today, it was mostly functions and factoring. Got stuck on the first two, so I havn’t got them done yet, but I’ll ask my friend when she gets back from work.
There are probably about 4 sophs in the class, including me and my friend L, and the rest are mostly juniors and a few seniors. I don’t really like the way he’s reviwed stuff so far as I’ve had to go through the book and learn it, but maybe when we get to newer materil he’ll actually ‘teach.’ Not as cool as my math teacher last year, where I learned a lot. L had him last year for SH and you could basicly walk in or out of it whenever you pleased. J says he was like that in class last year too, so we shall see.
2. Honors Chem, H***. Teacher brags endlessly, and tries to be funny. Says he is strict and will work us hard. Can’t ever be late to his class, no passes, no gum or you get a detention. He doesn’t keep track of our grades and show them to us either, we have to keep track if we want to know what we’re getting. I don’t think I like him very much… so we shall see about that too.
JB and L are in this class with me, Heid even put us near each other in his seating chart. But we can’t talk, so it doesn’t do us much good, except for when we talk before cllass as if you’re not n your seat at the first ding of the bell you’re tardy.
Notes pretty much every day for homework, but he doesn’t look at them or collect untill the day of the test. Already did the ones ‘due’ tomarrow.
3. Sports Medicine, G***. I signed up for this class oringanally because I thought I might go into pysical therapy, and I have to take at least one year of practical arts classes. He prints our nots out for us in power-point form, which is nice. We spent wednesday practicing ripping tape into small peices.
Oh, and we have to do 10 hours of observation in the training room and go to at least one sporting event ≥.≤ Ugh. K is in this class at least, though I don’t know her as well as JB or L.
This one’s a semester-long class. I take Psych I next semester, L says the teacher is mad. Mad and brilliant. And funny. And likely has every disorder he teaches about. Spent a few minutes yelling at the bell for inturupting him last week. I wish I had it first semester with her instead, but oh well.
4. Lunch/Study Hall. About 20 minutes of lunch, 5 minutes to go to locker and get to SH, then another 20 minutes of SH. Except on fridays, where we have 40 min of lunch and no SH.
Lunch is okay, I bring mine so no waiting in lines. I sit with K(from Sports Med) and her friend I, and my freshman friend Feather, who is pottor-obsessed and still can’t go aywhere without book 7. E sometimes sits with us too, she helped me get Feather to eat on friday, which was good.
I have SH with Feather too, and 38 other people (even though there are only 30 desks). It’s litterally as far away from my locker as it could be though. They’re calling it ‘resource period’ which means we we get our ID’s next week and they set uo the scaning things we’ll be able to leave and go to other places. What these ‘other places’ are has yet to be determined, as the library is still inder construction and we can’t check out books and there’s no place to sit, and I don’t need to go to the math tutoring centor. Teacher does not allow ipods. *dies*
5. English, S***. Already my favorite class. Teacher seems good, goes off on random tangents sometimes, doesn’t give a lot of homework which means we can leave our 1 1/2 inch book at school thankfully (I measured). L is in it with me again. I can tell this class is going to be fun.
6. Spanish II, G***. Eh. It’s spanish. I again know no one in the class. It’ll be another quiet year.
7. P.E. But I really go to band, so we have 2 periods to practice marching.
8. Band! The two days we went outside to practice marchig it rainded on us. And we got wet. If it does rain again, Mr. C said he’d just cancel marching band and we’d all get to go hme two periods early, as we don’t have time to learn the drill as it is. We only vaugely know one song. Sigh.
After school: Tennis! Practice goes from 3:05 (we get out at 2:40 and run down to the park as Varsity gets to practice at the high school) to 5 or 5:15. We had a meet every day last week, except it got canceled on thursday and was rescheduled for friday because of rain, then it was cancled becaus eof rain again on friday. Me, Ros, Kathy, S, K, H, and a little later C (the manager, he showed up and was pissed because no one told him practice hd been canceled along witht he meet) practiced for a while. Eventually only me and Ros were left and we stayed till around 6 hitting. It was fun.
After tennis: On tuesdays and thursdays, I’ll go to hockey practice, plus games. Also on saturday and sunday (actually, I have ockey twice today. Game this morning and practice in an hour and a half).
Goodbye free time…
147-believe me, it’s better than reg. reg bio was the most ridiculous class ever, to the point where i didn’t even do the hw, i was so bored (i would fall into SM’s G/N category…i’m really not that concerned with grades, just knowledge)
although i’m also in reg math, and really glad i am because i hate math.
151-I’m not sure exactly but i think it’s some kind of accelerated program higher than honors…like AP, but idk if you get college credit or not
I guess I’ll go into detail with my schedule:
A Period: Music Theory(Semester 1), with Ms. B- This class seems cool so far, even though we’ve just been learning about names of notes, and a little about rhythm. Ms. B is the most energetic teacher that I’ve ever had first period, and we’re also near the band room, where Jazz Band is first period, so we have good background music.
B Period: Honors Algebra II, with Ms. S.- So far class has been boring since its just been review, but Ms. S. is a very funny teacher. The only thing I don’t like is that she has AC on very cold.
C Period: French III, with Mr. L.- Mon classe favorite. Mr. L. is the best teacher ever, even if he is the self-described “old, fat, crazy bald guy”. Smaller class than last year’s, so I’m more comfortable in there.
D Period: Lunch w/ Dan and Shelby.
to be continued…
my shcedule just got completely switched. so long bio…onto a new time period. my studies are completely random now. it seems that you guys combine lunch and study? for me study is a seperate period. everyday i have 6 classes and a 25 minute lunch. study is counted as a class. all my classses are on different parts of the building. luckily, i finally mastered the art of opening a comination lock!!!!! yipee! seriously, the school building is ginormous! what a headache to manuvuer.
155- You couldn’t open a combination lock either?! Thank god, I’m not alone! I’ve figured it out now, though I still like having the instructions. But for a while I felt like a complete idiot.
156-u go alice!! both of us idjidts together!
146- in science we have to watch a film of a birth.
we watched the FUNNIEST lab safety video. tthis guy breaks a glass stir stick and pushes it into his hand. and for bunsen burners: this limp hand is hung over a bunsen burner and catches on fire. it sounds stupid but it was the funniest thing in the world.
my english teacher, Mr. W (or something like that, not entirely sure of the spelling) is SO COOL. First day of class, we discussed Shakespeare, the Death Penalty, debating, allusions, implying, and a recently passed bill for the State of Wyoming that is making us give our school’s incredibly large amount of money from the oil+gas boom to the state, who will then *allegedly* give it to other schools across the state, but in fact, nowhere in the writing does it state that the money will go to the schools. Nowhere! Anyway, second day we discussed Global Warming, pollution, and the U.S.’s inability to make all our products solely within our borders. Third day we talked about sentence fluency and grammar. Fourth day we went to the library.
It was pretty sweet.
And he keeps quoting the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution and stuff.
:idea:TNÖ:idea:
159-sounds like a fun class!
i’m happy. i’m in improv club which is sooooooo much fun and i’m being trained to be in stage crew. i hope I can make the improv team this year. w00t my school is fun.
no one cares what you wear at my school. people dress like they’re from the thirties, people wear stuff i would never wear *coughdecencycough* and pearcing and colourful hair are the norm. I could paint my lips blue, wear red eyeshadow and green eyeliner and no one would look twice.
157- w00t!
161- There’s a girl that rides my bus who has sea-green hair, a lot of people die their hair black, and there’s at least one girl with cherry-red hair.
161-ick ick ick ick. the age old question-WHY! musings about it….rebellion? individuality? conformism? INSANITY? i met this one girl who was half goth and half punk. extremely strange. but nice….hmmm. oh wateva.
There’s this kid on the boy’s cross country team whose hair is shoulder length on one half of his head and really super short on the other side. It looks like it was once dyed bright blue. Also, his lip is pierced with what looks like a dumbbell. Other than his appearance, he is completely normal. It hurts my brain to try to figure out what he was thinking.
164- Wow. It makes the girls with white-blond-and-brilliant-blue hair sound normal. And the kids in math class with pierced lips and and died-black afros and spiky dog-collar jewelry sound only mildly odd.
165-that IS normal.
165- that’s the norm at my school.
I made a post earlier but I think it got zapped by the interneet.
my school is awesome though. no matter how scarry people dress, they are realy nice underneath. One of my friends sisters dresses like an elegent goth and is sooo nice.
167- Gothic Lolita! It’s actually really cool, IMHO.
I’m going to go look at Hel Looks. Much fun.
BTW, that’s Hel as in Helsinki.
geuss what! there was this huge fight at school between two girls and my brother said there was blood everywhere. pretty messed up. the girl who started it got her a** kicked. the only good thing about today was its FRIDAY!! this weekend is gonna go by so fast…*is sad*
168- I love gothic lolita too! but she doesn’t dress gothic lolita, just elegant goth.
shcool is going pretty good. I’ve made a lot of friends. there is this pair of identical twins, but I didn’t know they were twins I only thought there was one of the and I accidenaly said “HEY MARIA” to Grace. and now i feel bad.
The Goth halway is sadly not as populated this year. Even though I have not one chance to walk through it in my schedule. Probably cause there’s no more block days on Wed. and Thurs, so no 10 minute passing periods for them to stand there. And the school’s bigger cause of the additions and allt he construction, so they probably have to head for class. A lot of emo people were in there the other day, whcih was odly depressing. It was so much fun to walk through there, both in dark and bright colours.
The lights are still notably dimmer there, though.
And yes, many goths are really nice, I don’t know many but the two I sit between in band (Haha, our director put me there on purpose, even though if it were trurely alphabetical I’d be to the left of both of them. But they talk to each othr and me anyway) are such. And I don’t know any mean ones.
167-168-171- Oh, yes, it is! I have a couple appropriate dresses, but haven’t worn them since I chopped my hair up [they look better with dolly curls than with a pixie cut].
I have a sort-of gothic dress I doubt I’d wear, more because I don’t enjoy dresses that much and it’s a bit to big. My mom got it for $30 marked down from $112 or something though, along with 2 others really on sale, so we just kept all of them. I’ll just use it for one of the next dances I get dragged to or something ≥.≤ Looks pretty cool, though.
hey, I just relized that you speeled it school! come on GAPAs, it skool.
