*does weird GAPA first-post dance*
I’ll kick this off by revealing my favorite word: serendipity. Here’s what I like about it:
(1) I think it’s wonderful that we have a word that means “finding things that you’re not looking for.”
(2) We know exactly when it entered the language and who coined it (January 28, 1754, in a letter by the English writer Horace Walpole).
(3) It came from a fairy tale, “The Three Princes of Serendip,” about three brothers who overcome obstacles by accidentally discovering just what they need. (“Serendip” is an old word for what we now call Sri Lanka.)
Now over to you, MuseBloggers…
Omg im first i hope
miscombobulated is my word i made it up it means confused i think:???:
I HATE U Robert Coontz (adminiTRAITOR)
i wanted to be first DIE !
now i did the first pst dance 4 nothing:twisted:
A good dance is never wasted.
You did the 2nd post dance!
And i’ll do the 5th post dance!!!
Unless somebody comes along to spoil my dreams…*sniff*
Speaking of dancing, does anybody here play runescape? I spent about fifteen minutes making my character do a jig. Tis funny.
Words and Names! Ok! Erm…well of course, pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconisis. Odd nobody mentioned that yet, but then i suppose this is only the fifth post.
I used to LOVE the word onomatopoeia. It is a very cool word, no?
My name is so boring. (Elizabeth i mean. and my last name, which I shall not utter here lest it bring our foes, the SPAMMERS and STALKERS into our midst. Driven and guided by the very sound of the name, they come, circling around like vultures. They penetrate through the heart of us innocent souls, they spread darkness and despair wherever they go. Theirs are the feet of pestilence, of famine, of death. Where they walk, no crops shall grow, no birds shall sing, all is in the silence of imminent doom. They flit like ghosts, through the very air we breathe, fouling and upsetting it. They-*is pied*) Anyway, nice name and all, but pretty common. Oh vell. I like Ebeth, tis a very cool name. Yay go me!
Ebeth is a splendid name, but Elizabeth is darned good, too. For one thing, it has more nicknames than any other name I know.
That is true. But almost every time i’m introduced to somebody as Elizabeth they go “oh, that’s my middle name!” Not kidding. It is insane.
well atleast it’s not their first name. i know about 15 Emilys. its crazy.
Yah, emily’s a way crazy common name.
Ooh! I made up a language today in science. Well, jacob and i did. It’s called Drrbrrbrrbrr. It only has one word in it-Drrbrrbrrbrr. It’s what we shout at andy whenever he starts talking. So eventually we started having conversations in Drrbrrbrrbrr. Like this:
Andy: blahblah
Me: DRRBRRBRR!!!
Andy: Aaaah!
Jacob: Drrbrrbrr!
Me: Drrbrrbrrbrr?
Jacob: Drrbrrbrrbrr.
Me: Drrbrrbrrbrr!
Jacob: Drrbrrbrrbrr?
Me: Drrbrrbrrbrr.
Lizzy: You guys are so weird.
Andy: I am not a zombie!
Me and Jacob: DRRBRRBRRBRR!!!!!
Lizzy: *sigh*
nice language.
one time me + some friends were on a ski lift and we made up a language of jibberish and somebody asked what language we were speaking. it was funny.
I LOVE NAMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but i dont have a favorite…
post ten! i think a wonderful word is mycology! not that im into it or anything
Well, Douglas Adams and John Lloyd made up lots of fabulous, nice-sounding and necessary words like “shoeburyness”, when you sit in a seat and it is warm from someone else sitting on it before you do. There’s also “opalescent”, which has a fairly mundane meaning but rolls off the tongue very nicely and sounds hypnotic. “Supercalifragilisticexpealidocious” is always a fabulous word, but totally unsuited to regular context in life. What, for example, does it mean? I also like the word “stairwit”, which describes some part of repartee you think of after the moment has past. This is a translation from the French word, and the idea is that you are climbing the stairs to go to bed when you think of it. “Retrotort” is also a synonym. And how do you talk in l33t and pronounce “Cthulhu”? These are mysteries I think Musers should explore.
7-Like that part in the Producers where it’s “Not many people know this, but the Fuhrer was descended from a long line of Eeenglish queens. Ja.” and then Leopold Bloom and Max Bialystock go to meet the worst director and his middle name is “Elizabeth” too. My middle name is boring. Total somniabulism.
I like the word recapitulation . In musical terms, it is where the main theme comes back in a different key. I also like the word binary fission , which I don’t really feel like explaining right now, but it is basically where a bacteria’s DNA splits in two, and then it splits in two (how it reproduces)
wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
rendezvous. (ran de voo is the phonetic spelling)
sfz- music term actually i can’t spell it so i’ll post the abv.
schweet! favourite words!
not real words:
relly (really-i relly relly RELLY like to spell it this way!)
w00t! (esp when said in a voice akin to yoshis)
yays
mrahr! (i made this one up all on my own! mrahr to that! its used to indicate either excitement or frustration)
actual words i luv to use just to confuse ppl:
farrago
quondam
querulous
pleathera (dont know if i spelled this one right)
anticlimactic (its hard to believe that many ppl actually dont know what that means)
minute (as in small)
skulduggery (now that is a sweet word!)
chiasmus
synecdoche
litote
allude
irony
jovial
banter
circuituous
base (as in stupid)
cranium
erasure
non sequitur (+ all the other cool logical fallacy names)
i definitely invented “musik” too!
-|–#————-|————O]——————
-|—————-|—————|————–
-|—–2———|—————|—————-
-|-G–4——-O]—————|——————–
-|———————————————
this is my obnoxious musik. thats a good word too. oboxious, that is
I like my name pretty well, exept that every other person I know with the name Sally is about 50. Which isnt terrible, but it does make it seem old fashioned. (Cause 50 is just ancient alright)
I like the word tintinnabulation which refers to the jingling and ringing of bells and chimes. I thinks its perfect because the word itself sounds like a chiming.
My favorite word is “unbeknownst.”
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious means nonsense.
Also….
anatidaephobia: the fear that ducks are watching you.
anananany: the inability to stob spelling the word banana once you’ve started.
Archibutyrophobia: the fear of having peanut butter stick to the roof of your mouth.
My friend and I made up a word. Schmea. The cool thing about schmea is that its the only word in any language that has the deffinition of every other word in any language. Its a liguistic phenomenom. You no longer even need to learn other languages, or try and search for the right word. Schmea does it for you. Its better even than esperanto (and it ignores culture even more)!
You pronounce it shmay, adding embellishes and accents as you see fit.
my name is olivia. very boring. and people always aske me if i was named after olivianewtonjohn.
anyway, words!
defenestration!
the act of throwing something out of a window! almost usless but so fun!
perspicacious!
perceptive! yay!
preposterous!
“This outfit is preposterous” is probably the best artemis fowl quote ever!
fuliginous!
sooty! also virtually useless!
13- “cthulhu”s pronunciation was touched upon in one of lovecraft’s letters…i pronounce it cuh-thu-lu…but that’s not exactly what he said…look it up, because i really can’t expoain it.
and another cool word is “absinthe” liquor. the green faerie. but still a pretty cool word.
cool girl name = nephthys
cool boy names = xavier, galahad, isadore
#18- MY NAME IS SALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Is yours too?!?!?!?!?!?! and you aren’t 50!!!!!! (I’m not either^_^ of course.)
cool names: Kethren, Celia, Magnolia, Meredith all of which are girls names…
for boys I like Daniel, William, Nicholas
I love word parts and origins of words! I also love names and the meanings of names. If I try to write a book it takes me forever to properly name characters.
hmmm, favorite words, I’d have o say rehibilitate, phobia, non sequtor is nice, chortle and giggle I like, jigglyness is just plain jiggly, Hexakosioihexekontahexaphobia and friggatriskaidekaphobia are good o
16-Emogrl, don’t try to confuse me. I know all those words. Intimately. Are you reeling with shock yet? Why are you not filled with incredulous disbelief of my claim? I didn’t presume so. Sigh. Life. Don’t talk to me about life.
Comics is a funny word. Why isn’t it spelled Comix? Thats how I like to spell it.
Let’s see. Jess ie is a shortened version of my real name. I am female. You people are fairly smart. You can probably figure it out.
“Jessica” sounds Biblical, but I’ve heard that Shakespeare invented it–that it didn’t exist until he used it for one of his characters (Shylock’s daughter in The Merchant of Venice).
Jessamyn is another pretty Jessie-name.
That’s you! I hate that rule! You are , or TWISTED!!!
My name is Myeri Acasa. That is actually my anagram, like Mltnrpns Iouie (the Irplunian)’s anagram, Milton Rupines. Speaking of Irplunians, Pwt is an Irplunian. On Irplunia, there are no boys or girls, which shoud settle the Pwtargument. Aeiou is an Irplunian going by the last name.
Something TOTALLY random. You know Emma (from Attack of The Smart Pies)’s parents went to Kokokino Country on vacation? What if Emma isn’t a human
E~A!! YES MY NAME IS SALLY!!!!! HOORAY!!!! I’ve never met another Sally who was near my age (Im 14). Its kind of weird to think that we all know eachother but we don’t know eachother’s real names, so we had the same name and didn’t even know it (a bit redundant, but hey, who doesnt love a bit of healthy redundancy now and then). It’s funny, cause I can’t think of you as Sally, only as E~A.
Strange how that happens, huh.
Skipper Nancy: I am going to post on the history thread now..
Lemon Curry: NO BAD GIRL GO DO MATH HW!!!
eek. or, as emogrl would say, mrahr! *cringes in expectation of pie from emogrl for stealing her word*
i have a file on my computer for cool names. it comes in handy.
as for cool words, me and my freinds were reading harry potter in french and we came across : my friend became obssesd. i know that’s more like 9 words but oh well. i like serendipity to GAPA. also cool:
obstreperous
extemporaneous
nettle
cobbler, cobble, cobbled
goblet
i’m sure there are more but for now…
whoa, i did some thing wrong! i meant to say we came across Celui-Dont-On-Ne-Doit-Pas-Prononcer-Le-Nom my friend… sorry sorry.
A roleplay idiot name: Dark_Wolfsbane_Bloody_Sakura
ZENZIZENZIZENZIC!
if you dont know what that means, google it. if yur boycotting google,TOUGH! it is the only word in the english language that has 6 Zs. it is my favorite word so dont steal it.
also cool:
rhinotillexomania : obsession with nose-picking! Ha!
quadragenarious : being 40 years old ( or relating to it ) gapas, confirm?
galactophogus : something that eats only milk
Hm, no time to look any of these up right now, but I’m sure that “galactophogus” should be “galactophagous” (the –phagous suffix means “-eating”) and almost sure that “quadragenarious” should be “quadragenarian.” It would be cooler if “galactophagous” meant “galaxy-eating,” though.
What’s the difference between –phagous and –vorous (as in “carnivorous” and “herbivorous”)? Technically, “-phagous” should combine with Greek roots, “-vorous” with Latin ones.
MY favorite word is frazinazinahilllpillfacation
it means to bug and torment someone
I know someone named Sally…except she is 17.
My name is Clara….I’m 14. I haven’t met anyone my age with that name..the only other person named Clara that I’ve met is 3 years old.
13-yay i love that book! It’s very useful isn’t it? Plus, people never have any clue what you’re talking about when you use the words in there. Oh how I love confusing poor innocent souls…
Wow, these are some pretty sweet words.
I like words with b’s and sh’s. Like…bubble, bubbly, erm…blubber, flibbertigibbet, shampoo, sssshhhh…oh and ooo’s. Like blooooo and goo and moo.
And ZAP!
zapzapzap
it’s what the GAPA do
rapraprap
it’s what most bloggers eschew
and yet here i am
rapping away
rapraprapraprap
i say!
this is quite absurd
this isn’t quite right
it should be more authentic
we’ll throw in a fight
and a *bleep* and a *bleep*
and another *bleep* here
that should work better
everybody give a cheer!
It’s rap!
Excuse completely random little rapping type ish but not really poem thingy…
I hate my name. I just do. It sounds like a brand of soap.
parsimonious. it sounds soooo cool. miserly.
loquacious. talkative.
graupel. soft hail.
tellurian. a really fancy word for an inhabitant of the earth. or a device that shows how the earths position and movement cause day/night and the seasons. but i like the first definition better.
“Parsimonious” has another very useful meaning. When scientists say that something is “the most parsimonious explanation” for something they’ve observed, they mean that it’s the simplest one–the one that requires the fewest assumptions. Scientists prefer parsimonious explanations because they don’t like to make things any more complicated than necessary. (That may be hard to believe as you slog through your chemistry textbook, but it’s true.)
Whats the difference bewteen immoral, unmoral, nonmoral, and amoral?
Most of you are refulgent.(sp?)
“Refulgent” Means sunny and happy.
Aqualinderella, the name of a particular fungus that grows on fruit submerged in warm, stagnant waters. Such a pretty name. Aqualinderella.
It sounds like a beautiful young woman whose nasty step-sisters make her kneel in the corner and scrub fungus off their fruit.
And then she marries a mer-prince and they live happily ever after in their underwater kingdom.
…….. Srumpdilliyliciousness.
I enjoy proper leet, not the phan boy type I’ve been seeing all too often. Of course, by proper I mean properly-making-jests-at-leet-phanboy-leet. Mwa.
As far as words go, my favorite as of right now is axel, spelled like that, because you can spell it that way and mean tha same thing. So y’all know.
Other words? My favorite Japanese words are “omoide” which means memory, or remembrance; “haruka” which means far off, far away, or just plain far; and “dakara”, which means that’s why, or, for that reason.
Omoidaseba, haruka haruka
Love that song. :3 Utada owns you all.
#48: thats a schweet name!
#32: *readies a lemon/curry pie*
#27: alright, this is random. last week i was watching CSI, + it was about a 12 year old girl who was a genius, + she had killed this person by putting NaOH in their shower head before the person went to take a shower (ah…ok, they found out she didnt relly do it in the end; she had just led the entire court to believe that she had done it, which was even more amazing-but i wont get into that). after the show, i just thought for some reason “wow, why did that make me think of Queenie J?”
but then again a lot of ppl here seem like evil geniuses @ times
ok, the gapas just had a strange bout of wierdness…
my name is emmeline. emmeline is also a person who dies in hp, the queen in ‘the great good thing’, and blouse’s wife. the last one isn’t particularily exciting, but whilst i was reading that book i happened to glance at the next page, and it gave me quite a start, because it said “Dear Emmeline,” in fancy font, and i thought terry pratchet was writing me a letter.
Do the evil sisters get their eyes pecked out by sea gulls or does she forgive them?
Speckie, you have quite the imagination. Hoo boy.
46- Immoral: Against one’s morals.
Unmoral: Synonym for immoral.
Nonmoral: Not connected to moral standards or mores.
Amoral: Like amorous. Not to be confused with “a moral” as in “A moral one learns from Bluebeard is ‘Don’t marry a creep who butchers his spouses.'”
45-GAPA, darling, that’s Occam’s razor! “Shouldn’t needlessly complicate entities.”-Long Dark Teatime of the Soul.
I haven’t met any other people named Juliette except for Juliette Lowe, who founded the Girl Scouts, and I didn’t even meet her. And there’s Juliette Binoche, a fabulous actress. Actually, most people forget the ‘te’ at the end, call me Julie, or make dumb jokes. Oh well, festina lente.
47-that’s the one i always mix up with redolent on vocab tests. Don’t you think refulgent sounds more like a smell? Well i do anyway, which is why i am perpetually confuzzled as to the meanings.
48, 49, 50-AAAH! *runs away* No merprincesses. Please. SPARE ME!!!
I’ll bring my history book home tomorrow cuz it has an amazing, completely made-up, random bunch of letters that possibly could constitute a word if you were feeling very tolerant. Fun times.
Speaking of words and such, i have a latin vocab quiz tomorrow that i should probably go study for cuz i haven’t the faintest what the words actually are, much less what they mean. Toodles. (Yet another amazing word…)
Queenie J.
(46) OK, so it’s not the most creative ending to the story. But that’s just the way it is. I can’t help it if Princess Aqualinderella’s life is a sappy, soggy fairy tale!
No! Haven’t you peoples read Witches Abroad??? (Ok so i only just read it like yestiddy but nobody cares so shut up. The important factor being that i read it…) (if anybody was confused as to who was supposed to shut up, that’s just me talking to my conscience or one of my alter egos. Whoever’s shift it is right now. Whoever it is is being quite annoying. I really should get myself a copy of the work schedule so i can tell who’s who…)
45- my chem book has really long and complicated formulas, but the questions at the endes of the chapters aske you to use the empirical formulas in your answers…eville…
A bird-watching term: peebeegeebee = a pied-billed grebe.
i ♥ the great good thing! ive read it maybe 4 times…yeah. and @ some point i actually had 4 copies of it…how did that happen…
41- I know a Clara who is 14 and will turn 15 sometime this year. I am going to be 16 this month and 17 isn’t that old compared to 50.
2 of my favorite words: PIE WARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I like the word “it” simplicity is good. 8)
galahad
xaiver
how do you pronounce pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconisis?
*feels stupid and phoenetically incompetent*
I’m glad, though, that I don’t know any Clara’s my age. I llike being the only one. I know about a ZILLION Jessica’s, Anna’s, and Emily’s that are my age.
English vocab was all good. Redolent wasn’t even on there, so i got refulgent very easily.
Latin not so good. Couldn’t remember Quid agis. Ah vell, she gave tons of extra cred on that one so i probably made up.
And…*sigh* I forgot to bring my history book home so i can’t type up weird made-up totally nonexistant word. (yes, the history book had something interesting in it! Amazing, no?)
Right now in english we is doing romeo+juliet and having much fun insulting each other in elizabethan. XD
ebeth, what is your fathr’s nam? (ys, i am stalking you. dont say i didn’t warn you)
pneumonoultamicroscopic…whatever is pronounced: new-monoltra-microscopic-silico-volcano-canosis. At least i think…
my favorite word is whangee. its some kind of bamboo. And “chargogagogamaunchaugabaunchaugamogamog” is cool too.(i didnt spell that right)
oh yeah, and sallisylic acid
ebeth, because i am the awesmest person you have ever met, i looked up the site for you. it was in the math section of the exploding trousers issue, which is probably why you didn’t find it. here it is:
http://www.babynamewizard.com/namevoyager
i hope that does not get zapped, because it was in muse.
its such a cool site! for instance, you can see that robert had boring parents, because his name was the third most popular boy’s name when he was born. ebeth’s weren’t much better, heres was the 8th most popular. montgomerygurl’s name was ranked 6th when she was born, but now its like 67th. rosanne, on the other hand, was at 603 in the 1960s. we will say nothing of my name, because its not even on there. aaaannnnddd… i can’t remember peoples names. oh yeah, juliette. juliette’s popularity was rising when she was born. it was 968.
Hey! I was named after my father, who was named after his grandfather, who was born in 1864. You have to look it up under that year.
It’s true, though, that there are plenty of Roberts in my generation. I thought we were second, after Michael–another boy’s name you don’t see much nowadays.
lots of robert coontzs too. i was looking it up earlier.
you were second in 1940. when were you born, 1944? you don’t look that old. i thought you were born in 1956.
I’m named after…. my great uncle. And I’m a girl.As you can see, misfourtune curses through every part of me.
There’s another good baby-name tracker at the U.S. Social Security Administration’s website.
Yes, I guess I was third, after Michael and James.
Yeah, Elizabeth’s sort of a family name too.
Thankee for the link em! Yay!
My dad’s name is mark btw. *is stalked* lol
56 Wait, I though amoral had to do with doing wrong because you didnt know the difference between right and wrong.
“wooloomooloo” is a section of Sydney. It has eight o’s.
Copper, what’s your name? Im trying to think of one that could belong to both you and your great uncle. I’m failing.
My name isnt there! hannah is NOT HOW MY NAME IS SPELLED. so therefore it isnt me. hannah is derived from anne, which means grace and is old hebrew(according to my old dictionary, anyway) MY name is arabic and means happy! *grumps, so that im totally not acting like my name* and its spelled with only one H and one N.
will the gapas snip this?
#81 i mean. i think its better to unpopular names, because then you arent like …ummmm… any old somebody, i guess.
yeah, emmaline is on there, but not emmeline. i think emmeline is more of a british nam. my brother’s nam is theodore. it was vry popular in the 1900s, but not so much now. there is anothr good nam site, wwwdotbabynamesearchdotcom, but repalce the ‘dot’s with ‘.’s. you can look at nam origins and unusual names, and name meanings, and all that cool stuff.
now i know where ebeth lives. ho hum. that was too easy. i should have had to at least cross reference her skool district or something. hey, i think i know someone with your dad’s name. lives in illinois, or somthing.
i like the name Emma and Emmaline. my favorite letter is e.
my name isn’t very popular but all the same i don’t like it. by the way, GAPA, what happened to MY BIRTHDAY??!!?!? it dissapeared off the calendar…
everyone insists on pronouncing my name ’emmalEEne’ and splling it ’emmaline’. emiliana is actually not anything anyone calls me, but is the person who sings ‘gollum’s song’ in the credits of TTT.
Okay. My friend made up a bunch of words and I kind of helped a little. I remember one. It’s “ishwibble”. It means someone who makes up words. She made it up.
If someone has a lot of time on their hands, could they look up “Clara” on the search thing? It doesn’t work on my computer. (I was born in 1991)
I don’t have words that I made up(well actually I have a few) but here’s some names that I heard and thought were cool/goofy.
Mike and Molly Moony(It’s fun to say)
Jimmy Willy
Oi-yoy
Chico(dog name)
The Gynan sisters
Loopos(last name)
Aren’t those cool names? They feel like they belong in a story together.
When I was little me and my friend had a password thingy to make sure that it was really me and really her. (doesn’t every little kid do this?)
Fungusteajellybelly
ok, we kinda copied it off of Barney, but hey! Barney was our inspiration!
66- pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconisis
…..so, broken down, it looks like this:
nu-mono-ultra-micro-scopics-ili-covol-cano-con-is-is
…..and sounded out:
new-mahn-oh-ull-truh-mike-row-scaw-picks-ill-ee-coh-vole-can-oh-con-uh-sis
…..at least, that’s my guess
my name is ranked four this year. i’m so depressed. ranked 72 the year i was born. ugh.
cool word: juggernaut.
(To the tune of “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious”):
Pneu…
mono, ultra, micro, scopic, silicovolcanoconiosis,
Even though the sound of it is reallysomethingterriblyatrocious,
If you say it loud enough, they’ll forget your halitosis.
Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis!
I wrote that when I was 10. Imagine my disappointment on learning, just a few weeks ago, that a word columnist (in the 1930s, I think) invented pneumono-etc. to poke fun at long technical words. It’s in the dictionary now, but nobody has ever used it except as an example of an inordinately long word. Doctors just say “pneumoconiosis.”
My name is Greek and it means something I’m not. Well, not most of the time, anways. Lately I’ve been reading propechys and having desire.
Odd that I’d have a Greek name, since I’m jewish.
Actually, it is silico , not piks ilico
Angst is the ONLY word in the English language with a 4-consonant combination.
It is cool.
Also, noodle is fun to say.
Shadow049,
What about iNSTRument?
Length? Strength? Seamstress? Arthropod? Phthalate?
Besides, “angst” isn’t really an English word. It’s a German word we adopted.
wow. gapas, you are walking dictionaries. *stares in awe*
Pretty much all english words are adopted from some other culture and modified.
I can’t think of any specific example at the momment, though…. someone help me?
SM (98),
It seems that people are always staring at us for one reason or another.
Thats because your knowldge is Scrumpdillylicous!
MMMM…. Scrumpdillyliciousness.
Speaking of angst and names, there’s a psychiatrist named Dr. Angst who works at Stanford. A perfect name for a psychiatrist, right? But it’s perfect beyond perfect in this case because Dr. Angst is director of the Stanford Human Experimental Pain Lab! It’s a lab where he studies pain by subjecting study participants to various levels and asking them how they rate it on a scale of 1 to 10. I’m not kidding.
On top of that, the nurse he works with is named nurse Tingle.
Wow. That is perfect.
My dad is working to start up this institute for mixing research mathematicians with math educators. He was joking about calling it Arizona Center for Mathematics Education. ACME. Now, can you think of two animals native to AZ that fit perfectly with that acronym?
I’ll give you a hint: mee meep!
#102: ha!
Acme makes so many useful products. I’d love to have their catalog. Unfortunately, something always seems to go wrong with them at the last second…
“Tingle” is one of those dentist words. Like “pinch.” Whenever my dentist says “You’ll feel a slight pinch,” I always know what’s coming, and it’s not very pinchlike.
HAHAHA
That is so perfect…Dr. Angst…wow.
Tingle is how people describe feet falling asleep. It doesn’t feel all that tingly to me but then when my feet fall asleep they fall asleep. Interesting fact about me that i’m sure you all needed to know.
Me hyper…me had pumpkin+white choklit muffin!!! Yay!
That is funny!
I like the word
piffle
I think it means “silly thing” or “stupid thing” or something like that. In spanish, it’s “tonteria”
OK. My fault. Made way to obscure of a joke. Yes, indeed, Acme makes a lot of useful products including all the anvils, safes, weights and hammers used by Wile E. Coyote to try and catch Roadrunner in the cartoons.
So ACME is often associated with the Wile E. Coyote cartoons, and roadrunners and coyotes are native to AZ so if there was something called AZ Center for Math Education, or ACME, they could use Wile E Coyote and Roadrunner as their mascots. Now do you see?
Oh never mind….
Guy Noir, private eye, lives on the top floor of the Acme building. One man trying to find the answers to life’s persistent questions. Guy Noir, private eye.”
“Piffle” is a synonym for “drivel” and “nonsense.” My father loves that word. Maybe because he doesn’t stutter on it.
102-I’ve met Dr. Angst, but not Nurse Tingle. There was a book I read a while ago where the villain was Doctoral Candidate X.
My middle name is German and means “brilliant protectoress.” The weirdest name I’ve ever heard of was Nevaeh. Heaven backwards. Pronounced “Nevah.” There is At Random, though, if you want a truly accidental name, and I know a Pravatchai Wanalayan Boonlayangoor. Known fondly as Dr. Boon.
Kubelschreiber!!!!! (German for pen)
i have a short name
ZOE the awesome and great
se4e i even have my own title (the awesome and great) and its not boring like crown princess of blah blah blah…

Woa, I didn’t expect anyone on the MuseBlog to know Dr. Angst. Freaky.
empitzu kesuri – pencil sharpener in japanese….I wish I could actually post it in japanese!
It’s pronounced
ehm – pee – tzoo – kez – oo – ree
HI!! I had a cool word, but by the time I read all the other posts, I forgot it. Oh well.
111-(amazing number, no?) my best friend when i was little in the UP was named Zoe! Sadly though, she’s not a muser. At least i don’t think so.

I have a friend named Jessica who’s middle name is Zoe. Her initials are really cool. Not counting the Zoe, her initials are
JKL
Tegucigalpa is the capital of Honduras. i love that word….Tegucigalpa!
question that I’ve been meaning to ask. Where does “pwns” come from? How was it created?
Ok Malignant Mandolin.
Clara was most common in the 1880s when it was 9th.
It was least common in the 1980s when it was 553rd. In the 1990s it was 424th and as of 2004 it was 285.
Kewleo

who knows
i could be that zoe!
121- leet kids who type too fast and can’t spell “own” because they use regular keyboards and hit the “p” instead, thus producing “pwn” (pronounced “pawn”)
I always preonounced it Piwins
(V)
(O.o)
(UU)
Thanks, Skipper/Lemon Curry!
I pronounce it pawn, but I don’t know if that’s right. How do you pronounce “Pwt”???
I always pronounced it Pee – ooo – t (Pewt)
Kids at my school pronounce it pown. Pown and pawn are the two most common pronunciations, I believe.
For “Pwt,” a couple of other possibilities are mentioned in the Fan Page’s FAQ section.
My sister pronouces it like its an acronym. She says each letter, like P- W- T. I tould her it was wrong, but she insists on persisting to prounce it that way.
No one at my school will understand “pwns”. I’ll start using it to confuse them all. hehehehhehe.
The name “Harry Potter” is fun because your able to make fun of it in so many ways
Harrys Pottery
Hairy Potter
Hairy Otter
and so on.
127- …..i used to pronounce it like that…..
129- ….i used to do that too….
I only use it online…when i’m saying something like that i just say “own”
ahhhhh……….
In Attack of the Smart Pies, they said something about Pwt, and they said “HE”
Does that explain anything!!!!!??????!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
Personally, I think Pwt looks more like a girl, but that’s just me..
try this cool word:
pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis
and i also like pernicious
yo
yo
how does this work?
hgkjg
hi
hi
really, Robert Coontz?
Shakespeare invented the name ‘Jessica’?
that’s so cool!
ANNA!! (Oh, sorry, Taiwan Hippo Fan) just say everything in the same post instead of doing zillions of posts…well you can if you want, but it is weird…
If they said “He” than he must be homosexal. Remember that cartoon with feather in the memory issue…..
I say it Pwin. Like Win, but with a P. And I say Pwt like Pwit.
I spent today picking up the trash around my house and along the road. I got 2 full trashbags. Uck.
143. Thats how I say it too.
That’s a good idea.
For the Service committee at our school, we do trash pick-ups around a park nearby. There is SO much. One time, we filled 11 garbage bags!! We found some really weird things – a guitar case, a cast, etc.
yeah i pronunce pwn “pawn” + pwt “pewt”
Main Entry: pneu·mo·no·ul·tra·mi·cro·scop·ic·sil·i·co·vol·ca·no·co·ni·o·sis

: a pneumoconiosis caused by inhalation of very fine silicate or quartz dust
I say pwin and pwit
Spring- as a season, this is a weird name. Spring is something metal that goes “Boing”
that is why it’s called ‘spring’. All the flower and leaf buds ‘go boing’, similar to the metal things
“go boing” interesting phrase.
lactose is a cool word.
so is diethylether
That’s also why autumn is often called fall. Because the leaves FALL of the trees. Also, some people can’t spell autumn.
151: That looks like it sounds like “Die, thy lether!” Whatever a lether is.
Or like “Dye thy leather”.
how spiffy!
it’s die-eth-yll-eeth-er. some random organic compound. C4H10O. (i can’t do subscripts)
I was introduced to the word “sesquipedalian” (six foot long) in Durant’s Caesar and Christ earlier this school year and it’s become a favorite since then. I don’t know why, I guess it’s just fun to use. ^.^
Other personal favorite words of mine are idiosynchratic (I think I may have spelled that wrong), eccentric, incarnadine (I may have misspelled that one as well :p), and cogitations (because it sounds better to say “I like to cogitate in my spare time” than just to use plain old think).
As for names, nice to meet you, Malignant Mandolin! I’m a Clara too, although my name is spelled the German way, Klara. I’m fifteen, going to be sixteen in October this year. Yay! I’ve only met one or two other Claras in person. Apparently it comes from clarus, a, um, meaning clear, bright, or excellent in Latin. Cool, huh? I like it. Let’s see, famous Klaras or Claras. Well, the only ones I know of are Klara in the Nutcracker and Clara in Varney the Vampire, but I’m sure there are more.
Oh, and festina lente in post #56! Yay! Make haste slowly, right? If we’re in Latin, I like saepere audere (dare to know), and facite (supposedly “git-r-done” in Latin). Can’t say I’m much of a fan of git-r-done, though, but it’s gained a lot of popularity in my state lately. :p
Noli mortuous
Or something like that. I’m not gonna bother to look up grammar, spelling and all that good stuff, but that’s my motto for the day. Don’t die.
155- NICE TO MEET YOU! WELCOME! ♪♫ it’s idiosyncratic. (from idiosymcracy, i presume…) incarnadine is correct, though! yay!
i think it’s about time someone posted “Word Disassociation” by Lemon Demon. will be my next post. ☺

He he. I have now written pneumonoultrascopicsilicovolcanoconiosis
on my desk in Sharpie, so that everytime I sit down at my computer, I will see it, which will help me on my goal to being able to spell it from memory.
…I also have the words “life on mars” “pwt pwns”what are we doing again?” written on my desk, along with an rather extenisve and rapidly growing doodle.
hmm…obstreporous? is that how u sp it? its a neat word anyhow
OH! OH! Who topped the class in the NLE?? That’s right. That’d be me. Actually, i tied with josh (loser. lol jk. Actually he would be a loser and we would shun him if he wasn’t going out with rachel. But that’s beside the point, said point being that he’s a loser but not really because he tied with me for top score of the class on the NLE) We both got 32. NLE being National Latin Exam btw. Actually i knew this before because we graded it in class but A-Now it’s like all official and froody and B-i didn’t know that josh tied w/me cuz he wasn’t there that day (grr) Oh and C-apparantely we get hoopy little certificates for this.
Oh yes and my dad pointed out that it might be kind of hard to live up to my old motto (noli mortuus) so i made up a new one-Noli stas in via. Don’t stand in the road. Good advice, no?
I also looked up how to say “Take me to your leader” but i got lazy and figured ok screw the grammar, nobody cares. (Nobody being moi) Anyhoo. Duc me ad vespet dominus. Or something like that. I’m pretty sure i completely made up the fourth word or at least mangled it horribly and almost unrecognizably. But yeah whatev.
Had ridiculously easy vocab this week (on wed. cuz of passover/easter) Only 10-wd. Easy A. yay!
General happiness…
We have 100 math problems to do over the Easter/Passover break…grr….there are some really long ones, too, like word problems or, 7a……7b……7c……7d…..7e……all counts as 1 problem………bah
caitiff- jealous, cowardly person.
pneumonoultrascopicsilicovolcanoconiosis. still can’t spell.
latin is cool. very cool. i took the NLE in 7th grade and missed it in 8th grade due to the flu. don’t remember what i got.
What is the NLE?
I like fantabulous
it’s a mix between fabulous and fantastic, if you couldn’t tell.
flamablamabulous…
Lol I wish, but I definitely didn’t top the class for NLE. When did your school take it this year, Ebeth? Mine took it towards the end of March, supposedly early because of spring break being on a different schedule from most schools, in my state at least. I think I missed three questions, but I forget how many there were. A new record for me, since last year I missed eight and I think I missed twelve or something like that before. One girl in class got a perfect score! Wow! She must have studied a lot. Do you by any chance live in Kentucky? I know a Josh here who really, really likes Latin.
For Purple Panda and anyone who’s curious, the NLE is the National Latin Exam, basically just what it souns like, a bunch of questions about various things concerning Latin.
Personally, I’m not much of a grammar fan – I always seem to get some grammar point or another wrong. There’s too many to keep up with after awhile! We learned how to say fun things like “use the force” awhile ago, but I don’t remember them now. I have a book, “Latin Quips at your Fingertips”, that has a lot of fun things; I’ll post some when I find it again.
Hmm…back to words. Let’s see, how about flammable and inflammable? Two fun words. ^.^
Ooh, I took the NLE on March 7th. No idea what I got, though- there were about four-six questions I wasn’t sure about, and I know I missed at least one of those.
I wish I could take Latin…the only language we get at our school is Spanish. (We used to have Japanese, but the teacher got married and moved to Guam)
We took it on the ides of march. (oooh, aaah, latiny)
Eccentric! Me jealous! We never learned to say anything fun! We ramble on about how Sextus est molestus puer and suchlike. Not like i pay attention though *gasp* Duc me ad vester dominus, and i shall pie him in the face. (et ego…pie? face? meh?)
Cheese is a fun word. It’s the double e’s. CHEEEEEEEEESE! Squee!
I like the word strag (and if you don’t know where that’s from i shall strangle you, you strag. lol jk…OR AM I?) I call people strags all the time. Tis fun.
Spam is a fun word.

(173) I agree. I don’t remember much Japanese.
here are some words I didn’t remember until I got out my Japanese folder a minute ago:
shima=stripe (also island)
hachi=bowl and/or bee and/or 8
ringo=apple
sakana=fish
isu(ee-soo)=chair
hana=flower(also nose)
neko=cat
ohio=good morning
konnichiwa=hello and/or good afternoon
konbawa=good evening
oyasumi=good night
maru=oval
from wikipedia:
The word pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis is defined as “a lung disease caused by the inhalation of very fine silica dust, mostly found in volcanos”. However, the origin of the word has been found to be a hoax.
…
* pneumono = related to lungs (Latin)
* ultra = beyond (Latin, as in “ultraviolet”)
* microscopic = extremely small (Latin/Old English)
* silico = silica (Latin)
* volcano = volcano (Latin)
* coni = related to dust (Greek: konis, dust)
* osis = disease / condition (Greek)
Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwantysiliogogogoch is a city in Wales. It is pronounced:
Lan – vire – pool – gwin – gill – go – ger – oo – quern – drob – ool – antis – eel -ee – oh – go – go – goch
I love that word!!!

I don’t like spam, sam i am!!!

Ever notice how many slang words (of any era) are just different ways of saying “good” and “bad”? In Polly Shulman’s book Enthusiasm, the words are “crisp” and “igsome” (exclamatory form, “Ig!”). Polly made them up, but I think they’re crisp and intend to start using them.
new slang words! huzzah! crispy! definately not igsome!
did i use them correctly?
“Crisp,” not “crispy.” Other than that, perfect.
I’ve never heard of Crisp/y
oh, ok! crisp!
PP (182),
It’s from Polly Shulman’s book Enthusiasm.
By the way, Polly reminds me that the proper intensifying adverb to use with “crisp” is not “totally,” but “loudly.” Loudly crisp!
I didn’t make this up, but I like to say it. ploglot. polyglot. polyglot. and now, for the final fanaly……!!!!!!! and wasn’t that an igsome fanaly? (is that right?) oh, you didn’t hear it? It was—campabalation= and random idea that apears when you are camping!
Antidisestablishmentarianism! That’s really, really fun to say five times fast.
My English teacher claims that no one uses the word “enthused” anymore. Is that true?
Also, as to post 173 – we didn’t learn them from the teacher; someone brought in a list from the internet we used. Unfortunately, all we ever learn formally is how to translate things like “Caesar killed this Gaul. Caesar killed that Gaul. Caesar went to Britain. Caesar conquered Britain. The Britons were angry.” and so forth, lol. One teacher did tell us that “git-r-done” was “facite!” in Latin, but that’s about it.
polyglot is a cool word. loudly crisp! [i could really get used to this slang!!!!]
my friend and i made up a word in 6th grade. oomskiday. [oohm-skih-day]. it could mean, um, anything. but it’s really fun to say.
durst is a cool word, too. “durst you!”=”you dare!”
No, I’ve never heard of the word crisp used as slang..I know the original meaning, but nothing else.
I made up the following word:
Ruhduhduhduhduhsplee!!!!!!
(186)No, not at all! I like trying to use it, and my mom uses it all the time! (‘all the time’ meaning ‘as much as any synonym to ‘enthused’)
What is that book, Enthusiasm, about?
p.s. ‘crisp’, ‘igsome’, and ‘loudly’ are interesting words
I like the word, “Tangent” It’s cool
192- https://musefanpage.com/blog/?p=189
193- indeed!
449th for Sally on the list Robert gave
i heart that word! example: my friend + i were lackadaisical this morning in physics.
IIIIII like the word
Sumimasen
(SP?)
Which is Japanese
And means “Excuze me”
196-that word rocks
In 3rd grade in my journal I would make up a word everyday. It ranged from alien plants, so weird types of rocks.
Sounds fun, WizGirl! My journal is boring.
Here’s a word I’m curious about: snarky. I hear it a lot, but my dictionary doesn’t have a definition for it. What does it mean and where did it come from?
“Snarky” is a recent addition to the language, still semi-slangy. Only the very latest editions of printed dictionaries are likely to define it, but you might have better luck online.
I haven’t looked it up, but it sounds like a British import. People usually use it to mean snide, mean-spirited, catty, carping, cutting, sarcastic–usually in describing something spoken or written (“a snarky letter/review/remark”) rather than a person, though I suppose you could say “stop being so snarky.”
how is loudly interesting?
snarky is a cool word. i’ve read it online on quite a few sites, but never actually incorporated it into my speech…
There’s a character in Peter Pan named Starkey !!!
HAPPY EARTH DAY!!!
I have a question does the latin root terre have any relation to tri because Earth is the 3rd planet from the sun?
I guess the smart thing to do would be to google or wiki this.
Well, I typed it so I’l post it anyway.
This question might be hard to answer on the Web. But you might start by asking yourself when people figured out that Earth is a planet that orbits the sun.
Can you answer it?
Yes.
Yay, “snarky” makes a lot more sense to me now. Thanks!
(207). Good point. It’s just that I got confused. The other day somedody used the word “tertiary” to desribe the something that was third (like primary, secondary, tertiary)
but tertiary also to refers to something that is of the/related to the Earth. (doesnt it?) I was trying to figure out how they were related.
“Tertiary” does mean “third.” The word for something of or related to the Earth is “terrestrial.”
There’s a Tertiary Period in the geologic time scale. It refers to things that happened between about 2 million and 65 million years ago–after the dinosaur extinctions, but before the beginning of the most recent ice age. Geologists and paleontologists use “Tertiary” when talking about rocks that formed then, the fossils inside them, and the animals and plants that lived then. You may have heard the word in that context.
(Earlier versions of the time scale included Primary and Secondary periods, too, but they were scrapped in favor of more-precise time units as scientists learned more details about Earth’s history.)
Bonobo.
The very word is attractive.
I got these out of a magazine. (i’m i alowed to do that???)
videotato-someone always playing video games
flubabubba-bubblegum in the bubble postion
slushcube-figure it out!
hey- i wanna see someone define “irony”- any takers??
caucaphony (sp?), persimmon, fie, wrangling queen, Cleopatra, Antony, Petra, Skrae
215:life
irony. hmm. in my dictionary, it says:::::
i·ro·ny
n. pl. i·ro·nies
The use of words to express something different from and often opposite to their literal meaning.
An expression or utterance marked by a deliberate contrast between apparent and intended meaning.
A literary style employing such contrasts for humorous or rhetorical effect. See Synonyms at wit1.
Incongruity between what might be expected and what actually occurs: “Hyde noted the irony of Ireland’s copying the nation she most hated†(Richard Kain).
An occurrence, result, or circumstance notable for such incongruity. See Usage Note at ironic.
Dramatic irony.
Socratic irony.
irony
n 1: witty language used to convey insults or scorn; “he used sarcasm to upset his opponent”; “irony is wasted on the stupid”; “Satire is a sort of glass, wherein beholders do generally discover everybody’s face but their own”–Johathan Swift [syn: sarcasm, satire, caustic remark] 2: incongruity between what might be expected and what actually occurs; “the irony of Ireland’s copying the nation she most hated” 3: a trope that involves incongruity between what is expected and what occurs
Weird names appear to abound in the world of musicians from the ’70s and ’80s. Roger Taylor of Queen had 5 kids, their names being:
– Felix Luther
– Rufus Tiger
– Tigerlily
– Rory Eleanor
– Lola Daisy May
Lord knows where he came up with those.
But George Harrison’s son has an AWESOME name: DHANI!! I love it sooooooooo much and I don’t even know why! It’s awesome, it sounds Indian or Hindi.
Freddie Mercury (awesome name in itself!) was born with an odd name, too: “Farrokh Bulsara”. and Gene Simmon’s birth name was something strange, too.
And I LOVE Phil Medley’s last name, but it seems a tad cheesey for the guy who co-wrote “Twist and Shout”. Like “Alto Reed” – the guy who did the MUSIC for Escanaba In Da Moonlight.
But Frankly, Zappa has the strangest names for his kids:
– Moon Unit
– Dweezil
*Excuse the annoying word-play I stuck in there…*
My cousin’s baby’s name is Finian, because her husband’s Irish.
Then, of course, Finn’s cousin’s name is Anna.
I’ll simply excuse the names celebraties are coming up with now. Yes. their names are weird, but must the majority of America’s public make such a fuss about them? Yes, I make a fuss about my luvs’ kids names, but I’m not exactly the majority of America’s media.
My favourite names [for boys] are:
-Dhani
-Farrokh
-Ferris
For girls:
-Krishna (technically unisex)
-Stella
-Vera
But I also like Michelle, Cameron, Simone, Simon, Sloane, Mical, Elora, Danae, Mara (my name!), Felicity, Ruby, Adam, Paul, James, Winston, Wayne, Kalpana, Jean Pierre, Maya, John, Ambrosia, Penelope and Aphrodite (for some reason I like Greek names).
Since some of those are forgien, I’l provide pronounciation.
Farrokh: FAR-ock
Kalpana: KULP-na
Dhani (just how it looks): duh-HAN-ee
Jean Pierre is French, so that might help.
Though its not really forgien, everyone mis-pronounes my name, so its MAR-a, not MAIR-a.
Forgot….I also like the name Ani (AH-nee).
Agrajagg and Slartibartfast are also RAD names, along with Trillian and Ford Prefect:)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Words.
Words rock.
I believe I made that intelligent observation a little over a year ago.
My fav words are mostly, here, abbriged version:
– peradventure (thank Sir Paul for bringing that word back into use! I’m sure you’ve heard some Macca Maniac say that more often than not…)
– innuendo
– ecstasy
– rhapsody
– hort-gorble
– befuddled
– fatigued
– dear
– splendid
– love (pronounced ‘luv’)
– radical
– outrageous
– shalom
– contribute*
– insinuate
– psychedellic
– bothersome
Now for ones my friends and I have more or less came up with:
– boo-pop
– poosh
– gullumba
– squee
– cheez (of course, there are different levels of cheez, different kinds)
Words my friends and I use to decribe anything and everything:
– flaming
– special
– evil
– bothersome
– awesome (yes, we are 8th and 9th graders!!)
– creepy
– disturbing
There must be more, but these are the ones I can think of at the moment.
218- Um, Dhani sounds Indian because it was made from two notes of the Indian music scale, dha and ni. He’s fairly pretty also- he looks a lot like George. George is prettier, though..
If we’re talking about musician’s names, I personally like Thelonious Sphere Monk III.
Thelius Grenon is a cool musician’s name, too.
robert, i might have said this before but serendipity is also cottons favoirite word.
wat dose my name meen
OMG I HAVEN’T BEEN HERE IN AGES AND NO ONE ELSE HAS EITHER!!!!!!
I got here by way of a link from Robert on the Coy Woodnesse thread that no one goes on.
221 – Slartibartfast is the coolest name ever! Awesome!
219 – People actually misprobounce that name? Wow. Some people mispronounce my name a little. It’s Anna, but some people pronounce it like Ana or Aaana. “Aaaa” as in “Ahhhhhh, we’re being chased by the Loch Ness Monster that doesn’t exist!!!!!!!!!!”
I pronounce “Pwt” like “Put”, but with more of a w-sounding u. I pronounce “Pwn” similarly, with a “u” sound as in “put” (“put” that away) for the w, so it sounds like pun. But with a different u sound.
111 – I miss you, PSPoP/Y4HPB! I :&hearts: your name.
we should have another words thread. And what do people think of the name Autumn?
