SUGAR BUZZ FTW.
I’m staying up and starting at exactly 12:01. I hope to get at least 1k down before going to bed and then write as much as I can after I finish tomorrow’s homework.
I really wanna win this year. *_*
whee! Nano!
two of my school friends are doing it which is.. interesting. and actually I didn’t even ask them about it. they both decided to on their own…
I will most certainly be Wri a No.
My story is a bit cliche, but I will try to make it as original as possible- and when it’s done I will (probably) send it in.
Yay! I can’t wait. I now have the protagonist, and the antagonist…
But nothing else.
No plot might be a problem, actually… (oh yes, I’m so witty)
*note
I express interest.
4- Recipe for a plot:
1 protagonist
1 antagonist
1. Which character has a goal: Protagonist/Antagonist?
Protagonist: Go to 2. Antagonist: Go to 3.
2. How does the antagonist prevent the protagonist from reaching his or her goal?
3. How does the antagonist’s goal adversely affect the protagonist?
If that doesn’t immediately give you a plot, it will at least give you something to work with.
So who’s staying up???
7- My parents wouldn’t let me, but I’m going to get up real early and BEGIN!!!!!!
wats na no? explanation plz…. i want to try cause i think im could do well
YUSS!
I’m writing my zombie story. “Memoirs of a Teenage Zombie”. Does it sound good?
can some one give me plost ideas?
how many words a day?
yes, but how do i do na no?
6-Thank you! *plots*
10-I like it!
12- you write a 50,000 word novel in the month of november.
16,666 words a day?!?!
no, wait: 1,666 words a day, and 1,686 on one.
plot: a were wolf is an outcase, then finds a monster land, which is ruled by frankenstian’s monster. but soon the werewolf must rebel against the power, before they all turn into to…HUMANS! WHAHAHAHA!
10- It sounds a little cheesy at first glance, but if it’s either a) really original or b) a parody of cliche horror movies, it could be really really great.
15- It sounds like you’ve been a little influenced by Hallowe’en.
I’m NaNoing… I posted a summary here and everything, I’m signed up… I’m planning to stay up to start writing unless I fall asleep, I’ve been mentally tweaking the beginning sentences for a month.
Can someone please direct me to the NaNo instructions post?
19- I don’t believe there is one, but here’s a link to the website, where I believe you will find a lot of information.
www. nanowrimo. org
[De-linked. –Robert]
And just so everyone knows: November 1 is known as Triple Aces. November 30 (cutoff date) is Dark Thirty.
i really need to think of a plot. i got today off from school! and instead of working on my nano, i went to help my robotics team, raked and mowed my lawn, played tetris for a couple of hours and fiddled with my computer by taking out multiple hard drives and other such nonsense. and then i spent 10 minutes convincing my brother to let me on the computer so i could download a word counting program. alltogether, a full day.
okay, so plot:
hmmmmn…idk. my bff jill(sorry, inside joke there. you’ll get it if you see the commercial)
6 more hours…this should be fun.
16- Zombie-master (makes zombies) goes to school. Falls in love with girl. Makes girl into zombie. Chaos ensues.
Original?
22- Quite. Why does he make the girl into a zombie, though? Wouldn’t she have to be dead? Or is is because she dies and he, grief-stricken, tries to bring her back to life?
Purplefinch- Who are your pro- and an- tagonists? If you give me their profiles, I will probably be able to whip out a plot.
I have an idea for next year’s NaNo already. It involves an alternate universe in which Christopher Columbus discovered… well, I can’t tell you now, can I?
No, but thank you, I actually have more of a plan now (involving ninjas [hurrah])! But my protagonist has the name of (upon the request of the Museblogger) Voiletfire. And my antagonist is Robert Coontz…
Any other muserly names that you want me to include?
Antagonist? Moi? I mean, Mwahaha.
Or shouldn’t you say Moi-haha?
25- If you can put in some Link Gnomes, Oob and I would appreciate it.
(27) That’s what I did say. My French accent is terrible.
I will be posting regular progress reports looking somewhat like this.
Henges Destroyed: 0
Word Count: 0
Plot Summary So Far: Haven’t started yet.
In some NaNo groups everyone chooses something for everyone else to work into their novels somehow or another, a character name, an object, or whatnot.
31- We should do that!
On that note, I am officially declaring my novel OPEN to four objects and/or character names to be worked into the plot.
28-Certainly! They shall be Robert’s minions.
Moi-haha, yourself… er… myself… er… moi-hahahaha!
31-Yes! That sounds fun!
And curses, the dog got away on Halloween night, again…
33- Hope you find it.
I really need to start my HW so that I have free time tomorrow to work on NaNo. *procrastinates*
Yay! I cannot wait! *dorky happy dance*
I have no plot. *dorky no plot dance*
A couple of kids at my school are doing it, too, along with a friend from another school *dorky community dance*
*stops dancing*
36- No plot? You’ve procrastinated even more than me.
Ok, i wanna know how to ‘offically’ do it or not. Is this a muser organized organization, or what?
*dorky question dance*
(32, 33) Maybe anyone could mention an item, then others could choose however many they want to include.
*joins SM in dorky no plot dance*
My first NaNo novel was titled The Physics of Blue, so I’m thinking of calling this one The Eccentricities of Red. So far the only thing I know about it is that it begins with a woman named Sorrell Montague arranging azaleas cut from her garden. From there, who knows what happens…. In fact, I just picked the character’s name out of the air as I wrote this.
38- Go to www. nanowrimo. org. [De-linked. -Internet Safety Gnome] It will explain everything.
39- Great name and title. What genre are you leaning toward?
Sorry for double post, but I just thought of this. Rebecca, what was the Physics of Blue about?
I am doing it, officially. I haven’t the faintest idea what i’m going to write about though. My parents said that I couldn’t stay up, so I’m sneaking out of bed tonight. I’m listening to the podcast right now.
It took much candy, concentration, dancing and screwy faces but i finally have a plot!
btw i only have like, 4 hrs a day to type so im gonna hav to type like a maniac
Taiwan Hippo Fan’s doing it, and so is philosophical.bunny
I have a lot of characters planned out. (I’m using the MBers who said they wanted to be in the story as teachers at Muse Academy, but completely new people are the main characters and students at MA). I have no plot, though. Which is a problem. So much for No Plot, No Problem!
…I think I want to have something with Highlights School, but I guess I’ll just work that out as I get there. Which is so unlike me…usually I have EVERYTHING planned out. I guess I’ll write the introduction/ordinary life scene and then think of a crisis from there…
44-four hours a day is plenty! 50k words in thirty day mean 1667 words a day (about a page and a half).
I can barely control myself! I want to write!
Still no plot ideas, I gonna wing it every day for the whole month.
I’ll be writing it all, then dividing it into chapters on the last day. Probably I will do long and extravagant “In Which” chapter headings, in order to bump up my word count.
Taking a break from handing out Hallowe’en candy. So much for finishing all HOMEWORKZ before tomorrow.
Fortunately, our school gets Triple Aces off. No point in having it in session when everyone’s high on sugar.
(41) Well, the short answer is it was about life, love, painting, and craziness in the 1980s. The challenge was to make myself write unflinchingly about my characters, instead of playing coy and tentative in my typical fashion.
Here’s a longer explanation of whence came the title, which I knew long before I ever heard of NaNo.
While reading Philip Ball’s Bright Earth, a history of paint pigments, I found this listing in the index:: “Blue, physics of.” I fell in love with it as the idea for a title, especially after I looked up the reference: “no vertebrate animals contain blue pigments: their blue markings are produced by light scattering….”
His explanation set me to thinking of blue as something that exists only in time, in the random convergence of movement, light, angles of reflection, and the eye that perceives it. So that’s how I tried to show the events of my story, as things that exist only in the moment of their construction.
Well, it made sense at the time.
49- Beautiful. Any reference for “the eccentricities of red?”
(50) Thanks! Still working on it. Though “eccentric” covers a fascinating range of meanings. And red is kind of eccentric because if you add white, you don’t get “light red,” you get pink.
Long wavelengths, infrared… It’s not that I write about this kind of thing directly, but thinking along those lines alters the way I see.
The word came to me, by the way, because Red-tailed HAWK this morning mentioned another MBer — Eccentric the Afterthought.
In real life, many years ago, the chance combining together in one arrangement of what should have been clashing hues of red azaleas changed the whole way I looked at mixing colors on canvas. But I suspect they will have an altogether different significance for Ms. Montague.
So, I’ve been convinced to do this. When I’m already aware of the fact that I’ve got a pretty big project that I have 2-3 weeks for. Oh well, I’ll live somehow.
ideas for thing to include: there must be some refecance to muse, museblog, or kokopelli.
may be diffucault for the dreamhenge.
the werewolf’s name will be edger smit. he is the protagonist
the villian is Dr. Mub. he is a mad scientest.
what do you think?
2 hours 20 minutes and 20 secounds
Dear Rebecca,
I want to read The Physics of Blue.
Love, Penty
TWO HOURS AND FIFTEEN MINUTES, PEOPLE.
53- Not really. I’ll just include a hot pink rabbit in a cage in the caelum-drunk information-brokering Puuk’s cavern.
I think I’ll get up really early tomorrow. Not at 12:01, but still… early.
*joins in no plot dance*
49, 56-Ebeth would also like to read the physics of blue, and humbly requests postage by the dear GAPA LB
24 minutes!
So wait, the random thread will be national november?
I have no idea what I’m going to write.
“No plot, no problem!” Yeah, right.
I’m so staying up.
Drenilen RUSH!
Yay candy.
You can tell I’m tired because I’m writing with two spaces.
Scary, eh?
So, NaNo. Really, all the plot ideas I think of are corny and all the titles are cheesy. Yeah, I’m good a writing. But not under pressure! *is pressured*
It’s like, Deus X Machina. Ew. No likie.
First 1684 words done! I still have no plot! I’m not even sure what it’s about!
2281 words before breakfast! I am on FIRE! *victory dance*
2504 words!
Hee hee… Max has just met the Purple Men.
All right. Calm down. Here’s the progress report.
Henges Destroyed: 0
Word count: 2504
More later. Must work on HW.
Please excuse the quadruple post, I have a major sugar high to deal with.
Does anyone have anything else to be worked into my novel?
I, being extremely sick with a high fever, am not going to school today. Which leaves the entire day for me to sleep and NaNo!! Apart from feeling absolutely dreadful, but I try not to let that bother me. *hacks up a lung*
Prarilius Canix – Since you have school off today, and I’m not going to school today, we can be NaNo buddies on this thread!
I don’t have any ideas at the moment, but as soon as I have one I’ll let you know.
If anyone else has things they want me to put in my novel, feel free to say so. It’s set in Muse Academy, so anything you imagined being there will definitely go in!
67- Sounds great! We’ll be basically the only ones on until afternoon!
My word count currently is 2,916. I’m around a hundred words away from my goal for the day, which is 3030.
3179 words! I am rollin’. That’s 149 words over my goal for the day- and it’s not even noon.
My word count is 877. I slept most of the morning, and only started writing about an hour ago. I’m aiming for about 3,000 today, though. I hope I can make it!
I really like my prologue. It’s the Muses choosing people for Muse Academy. It’s rather dreadfully written, but I like the idea.
I am no longer the calm and rational person I once was due to high levels of SUGAR!!
Hopefully this will wear off soon. It’s not very fun. And it keeps me from finishing my homework. Helpful as anything on NaNo, tho.
70- It’s easy if you know where you’re going.
Sugar high has worn off completely after feeling sick and getting a giant amount of chamomile tea.
I’ll be back in a few minutes- WRITING!
Now I have 2,173 words! I’ll definitely make 3,000 today. Hopefully more!
How’s your noveling going, PraCan?
Well, I lost the ability to do word count. Dang.
73- I have over 3179 words, exceeding my goal for the day.
wow. i still don’t have a plot. i did stay up till 12 though. i don’t know why. off to brainstorm. and then to an orthodontist.*ick*
meh… 358.
PraCan – Congratulations! I have 3033, exceeding my goal for the day.
jammin j – never fear. I don’t have a plot yet, either. I’m hoping to get a good plot idea sometime in the next few days. Until then, I’m writing a lot of descriptions and such!
*is jealous of the homeskewlers* i’ve got the 382 that i wrote last night…and i’ve got the other 1285 words to write between now and 6-ish, plus hw. And the next few days will be crazy because we have a 5-day deadline for this month’s torch story, so i’ll be going crazy doing interviews and stuff for that too.
*should not be posting! should be nanoing!*
O no! I completely forgot! Will be starting ASAP
(79) Wow, Ebeth. Looks like you’ve hit the mother lode of procrastination opportunities.
I don’t think I’m going to get 50, 000 in the end though. I’m definately going to try to get 20 000, and I will be disapointed if I don’t, but 50, 000 is a lofty goal.
82- I’m confident about winning.
79- I’m not a homeskewler, I get Triple Aces off
79 (Ebeth) – I’m not homeschooled, either. I’m home sick.
I’m not confident about winning, though. My goal is 20,000 words.
I going for as much as posibley. 300 words. had to get off computer in morning.
winning: I mght get over 50,000. might. I am adding a lot of desiction to it.
Bahahaha! I dumped the first chapter that I had written on the Muse Fanfic thread and wrote another one. It’s considerably better.
Wrote 681 last night before going to bed and am now just starting up again. (705, if you must know.) Today’s goal is 2000.
First sentences, everyone! Post ’em here!
“The chill of the night was just giving way to the oppressive heat of the desert sun when the gunshots started.”
And yes, I know it sucks. I’m trying to be wordy. It’s kind of the point.
“heather was only fourty-nine, but you would not know it.”
heather is the werewolf that bite edger smit.
I dedicated mine to y’all again.
You guys are so awesome.
I’ve jumped on board at the last possible moment. We write about 1700 words a day?
90- just do your best
“To the untrained eye, 148 Randolph Avenue was a very common house. It had a small driveway, hedges out front, and a creamy-colored fence that was in serious need of paint.
The strange thing about 148 was its occupants. Or lack thereof, to be exact.”
And no, it’s not an abandoned house.
I know, it’s horrid. You don’t have to say so.
My first sentence: “Nine strangely-shaped creatures sat in a room, discussing something very important.”
Yeah. That needs a lot of work. ::sigh::
I have… 561 as of right now (soon to be more) and when I finish my pre-calc in the car I’ll work on it more. I WILL reach 1667 by today!! Hopefully more!! I am trying to be optomisitc against all my natures and it is not working!!
In other news, 5 hockey games this weekend (3 days including friday) and I’m missing L’s party (
) and I’ll have a ton of HW and an esay and project to do and a ton of crap. So you’ll not be seeing much of me.
1st sentence: “Max leaped off the bus, landing with a crunch in the gravel on the side of the road.”
(87, 93) Don’t sweat it and don’t edit. Rejoice that it is written and keep moving. Editing is for another day.
“The first law of exuberant imperfection is essentially this: The quickest, easiest way to produce something beautiful and lasting is to risk making something horribly crappy.”
– Chris Baty, founder of NaNoWriMo
By the way, here’s my incredibly boring first sentence:
“They shouldn’t go together but they do.”
“Grace walked down the sidewalk, kicking the leaves aside from the chalk drawings she’d made the night before.”
I’m kind of bad at the just keep writing thing. I think too much about it. Any tips on increasing words per day?
My God, I wrote 1000 words in the first two hours, and another 3000 or so at school today.
I’m definitely doing NaNoEdMo. It’s December, right?
Yeah. And the strangely-shaped creatures are the Muses. I really like the way I’ve described Muse Academy so far, but I just need a good plot. I can’t think of a good confluct yet. I’m leaning towards just having Grace (my main character) and her friends find interesting things out about MA and put them all together to discover some kind of cool secret or something. I’m not sure.
I’m in.
Can you type in Word and Paste it when your done?
98- Nice.
Don’t see why not. I’m doing mine in TextEdit.
97 – Wow, we’re using the same name. *great minds*
Perhaps I’ll spend my hour reading this WHOLE THREAD. Yeah, I’ll do that.
31- OOH! OOH! Yes! I’ll think of something while I finish reading the thread!
40- *thumbs up*
47- I love “In Which” chapter headings!
53- I’m working that into my ordinary school life very well (did I tell you I got B to read Muse the other day? Some of it, at least), but I don’t think it’ll work in West of West.
So…spur-of-the-moment first sentence.
A soft wind blew through the apple orchard, smelling faintly of rain and ruffling the curly hair of the baby sitting in the grass.
And continuing, because I can and because I need to when I can:
The child looked up from the daisy she held in her hand, and her blue eyes sparkled with delight. Standing on unsturdy legs, she dropped her daisy and toddled towards the rhododendron bush.
Her mother cast a glance in the baby’s direction, and turned back to her conversation and tea.
The girl took a few steps closer to the bush, hesitating as though she expected her mother to call her back. No one did. She touched a leaf.
There was a swirl of wind and raindrops began to fall, plopping heavily onto the now-dark grass. The child set up a wail, high and weird, and her mother dropped the teacup and ran to her daughter, who continued to cry.
“Shush, Olive,” her mother murmured. “‘Tis only a bit of rain.”
Olive put a hand into her mother’s, and it was cold as ice.
“Far above Lake Ligacus in the Windwater Mountains was a tower.”
Ulp, I fear my first sentance is entirely incomprehensible. I am going to need to edit this a lot come December…
104- I have another MC named Naomi though…
we must have great minds!
106- That’s perfectly comprehensible. There’s a tower far above Lake Ligacus, which is in the Windwater Mts, right?
My minor characters are a lot more developed than my main character. Sadly.
I’ll be able to loosen up my style once we reach Dreamtime, though. And I’ll make Max a lot more human.
My first chapter is going to be called something like “In Which We Learn Something of the Life and Dreams of Max Caraway, and Encounter the Purple Men.”
Right, but no one knows what landmass and body of water I’m talking about. Anyway, it goes on:
The tower itself was not so extraordinary; it was tall, round, and built of an unobtrusive grey stone. Windows spiraled up its sides in a regular pattern. The tower rose from an equally unobtrusive and un-extraordinary castle. It was, in fact, quite the sort of tower one would expect to find anywhere in Wrast, the northern continent of Excelsior. What made this tower special was its inhabitant.
The results of my brain at midnight. Sigh…
I love NaNo. I’ve written about 2500 words at the moment, but my novel is, um… not exactly high literature *coughcompletelycrapcough* Anyway, this is one big creative rush.
Aliens have taken over earth. Tom Young is bored and decides to lead a rebellion. What will happen next?
I’m going to try to get 3,000 words a day, to give time for unproductice ones. It’s probably not going to happen, though.
110- Ooh, cool. What precisely are the aliens like?
111 (Glassboro) – That’s what I’m going to try to do too! I’m planning on working over-time on the weekends so I don’t have to work as much during the week, when I have piles of homework.
I have an [underwhelming] 470 words.
I probably have nearly 4000 words by now.
Ha! 840! That’s still bad, but–
me too.
3854 words!
923!
Hi, MontgomeryGurl. Good to see you, and glad you’re doing NaNoWriMo. What are the aliens like?
4012!
*hem* and rising.
MG, what are the aliens like?
PC, you’re so close!
Eh, possible double post, sorry.
1032 words-ish. *feels blech*
“Robert. Robert Coontz,”
Is how I start my story… I’m feeling rather excited, actually, although my father keeps on telling me that NaNo is bad, and writing that way is a bad habit to get into…
So what is National Novel Writing Month? I’m betting it’s November… But specifics? Specifically…. Why the heck would you have a MONTH of writing? I would join in, but I’m no good unless I get all emotional – I write REALLY good poetry then (can I link?). I can edit for you guys I guess….? I’m pretty good at that!
/gradster(1)/
OMG! I am so excited about NaNo! But I am SO BUSY!!!!!
118, 121-Dang!! Good job, guys! That is fantastic!
I start my story like this:
Woozy. Woozy, and in a state of pain so intense that even a 4000-pound armored rhinoceros would wince. I looked around, trying to tell where I was. I tried to get up from whatever I was sitting on(it appeared to be a toilet), but found that my arms were tied to the seat.
GTGTB! See you!
/gradster(1)/
P.S. Did anyone celebrate Leopard? Please say yes!!! I went to this AWESOME gaming/nerd/Leopard party and staying up til 4:30!
The parental is yelling, bye now for real!
2598 and I’m stopping for tonight. I was planning on 2K a day, it looks like the 600-word lead from staying up late is still there.
My plan is going faster than I expected, but also much slower.
Beginning sentences:
Prologue: Experimental Film
This is where the story begins. What story? This story.
(the prologue is kind of meta and I’m not sure about it being part of the story, though, so I’ll add the beginning of chapter one…)
Chapter One: Don’t Let’s Start
This is where the story begins. Well, not really, but this is where I can start best. My memory isn’t perfect, and it’s easier to just start here.
Yes, those are the titles of TMBG songs. Yes, I am doing that the whole book.
The beginning sentences don’t tell you much about the book.
Does anyone know how to upload the scrambled document for word count? It’s probably obvious, it’s not described on the site… I don’t see it.
125- ooh, me likes. What’s it about? Or do you not know yet?
The aliens are not exactly party animals. The rest of the universe views earth as something of a frat house. No other species values beauty for its own sake, or has relationships the way we understand them. The aliens are taking over the whole universe, and earth is only one small stepping stone towards that goal.
As far as physical appearance, they figured out how to take on the characteristics of humans. Naturally they’re just a large glob of tissue and organs, but they’re very vulnerable in this state since their outer walls will burst if anything rough rubs up against them (texture is only on earth). They don’t see, they bounce telepathic rays off of their surroundings. Since they have no sight, they have no color. They’re not white or clear, they just have no color. They also don’t have language, but they picked that up from humans fairly quickly
Earth is going to be demolished as soon as the epic struggle for the universe is over, and that makes one of the aliens sad. His name is Orluno, and he likes humanity. I think he’s going to play a major part in this plot.
Anyway. Alien stories always end up as either a rip off of Adams, or a rip off of War of the Worlds, and I’m kind of combining the two. And I’m definitely having fun.
I’ve grown tired of Kay’s name and am thus changing it to Thursday.
I have 1734 words. My story is about the end of the world, Ragnorock style.
503!
My mother is very anti nano and “you should get things with deadlines done” this year. Blech.
500 words till the 5K mark. Whoop whoop!
129- Problem: Even if they can’t see, they still have color. That’s like hiding your eyes behind your hands and saying, “you can’t see me because l can’t see you!”
129-AM NOT GOING TO GET IN A FIGHT WITH THEM. *hides*
5004! Going to bed now.
129: MG,Will Orluno teach the humans telepathy? That would be cool. Though it could create problems too if other people could pick up what you were thinking.
1087!
-fails-
I have nooo frees tomorrow, really. -sighs-
But I don’t have sports, so I can NaNo then.
First paragraph: Spinning, spinning, spinning- in this world, what isn’t spinning? You, me, everyone you know and everything you see is constantly in a state of turmoil. Chances are, you’re not scared about this. We’re moving faster than the speed of light, and when you’re this fast everything stays the same. They say that’s impossible, you know, traveling faster than the speed of light. Here we are, already doing it and everyone’s convinced it’s impossible. Here, at this speed, nothing is impossible.
It’s hard to tell what my plot is from that, though. I’ve been reading Chuck Palahniuk nonstop as well as listening to H2G2 quite frequently, so I definitely notice them influencing me…Anyways, my actual plot, so far, is about a serial killer who plays Russian roulette with people, if they die-too bad…if they don’t, they get enlightened.
Apparently, as M informed me, this is frighteningly similar to Saw… I’ve yet to see any of them, but hopefully it’s not too much like it.
Sick again, wa-hoo. I don’t think I’ve ever had a cold this severe, ever.
But, it does give me the whole day to sleep and write NaNo. I’m hoping to get another 3,000 today, and I want to edit the beginning. Yes, I know, no editing. But I have the whole day (aside from the time I’m sleeping), and the beginning is really dreadful.
(139) Instead of fussing around with an edit, you could try simply rewriting it (or sections of it). That approach will add to your word count and keep your momentum going.
I did that yesterday when my first few paragraphs came to a standstill. Instead of starting over, I repeated some lines from the first paragraph then continued on, rewriting what had already happened but from a different angle.
Another advantage to this strategy is that if at some future date I decide to edit for real, I may decide parts of the first version are worth keeping or developing further. If they were edited out too early, I would no longer have them for reference.
It’s kind of like sketching without erasing.
140 (Rebecca) – Thanks for the idea! It’s really adding to my wordcount. I’m not keeping the really bad parts, though, because I don’t think I’ll ever use them. But maybe I will…I guess it won’t hurt. I’ll title the document “Disastrous NaNo 2007”
Here’s my new first sentence:
“If you peered into the window of that mysterious old building in the mists of Iceland, you would be quite confused indeed.”
134 – No, they don’t. I’ve always wondered what it would be like if something just didn’t have color or if sight didn’t exist – can things still be “seen” if there’s no one there to see them? But colorlessness doesn’t really figure into the plot, I just liked the idea.
137 – As of right now, Orluno thinks speech is superior to telepathy. In telepathy you have to completely open yourself up to the other person and let them see your thoughts. He’s started keeping secrets in his mind and closing those portions off to the aliens around him. Normal aliens don’t have secrets from each other, and they also don’t have much individuality. Orluno also thinks speech is pretty. I think this is going to become a major part of my plot.
I’ve written around 3000 words, but I did well the first few days last year as well, and I didn’t even finish. For me, it goes that the first week is extremely easy and I write a lot, but around week two I can’t figure out what’s going to happen next and my story sucks and I’m extremely unhappy with the whole thing. But we shall see.
142 (Monty) – I suppose that is what will happen with my story as well. I have 4132 words right now, but I think as the month goes by I’ll get bogged down with work and lose the motivation to write. We’ll see how it goes…
Ugh. 1400 aprox. Not doing so good. However, I am proud of myself, because I’m not good at dragging stories out to make them long. So far, in these 1400 words, one main character has some deep thoughts, and the other has breakfast. Interesting, huh?
My opening:
I walked down the garden path. Golden clouds, caressed by the setting sun, crawled across the sky.
I was researching Iceland, and on the Wikipedia page, there is a section about these elves and ghosts that “dwell in the rock formations.” I’m going to have a lot of fun incorporating that into my story
4526 words so far.
6024 words! I’ve met my goal for today!
*celebrates*
I hate not having MS Word. My word processor doesn’t have a word counter, so I have no idea how much I’ve written. Once Ebeth gets home from school I’ll send it to her and ask her to tell me how many words it is.
Opening paragraph: Tom Young sighed. It seemed to do no good, so he sighed again. No one was around to hear him, and there seemed to be no possible negative consequences, so he sighed a third time.
It actually gets a lot better after that, before taking a sharp downward turn once I start to get in to the actual plot.
You can probably paste it into the NaNoWriMo word counter and they’ll tell you how much it is, too.
the nano counter doesn’t open for a while, does it?
Yeah, I’m basically writing as I go along. My first sentance is amazingly non-hooking.
127- ooh! I really like the TMBG song chapter titles!
1,024! BWAHAHAHAAHA!
1405 words! and just taking a break. I fell behind last night, with just 651 words. this is fun!
TMFA’s ideas for how to artificial infalte your word count.
1. do not use contractions! this add 1 word per contraction
2. discribe everthing! even thing not importent to the plot!
Wrte 1687 yesterday, but just typed up the last of it. I have amazing ‘let’s just stop here because i hope that put me around 1667 words’ skills, aparently. Didn’t get as much written today, but there’s stil time!
2298
I like using contractions. I know it shortens your word count, but not by *that* much, and it seems to official when I never use contractions.
just whent over 1500
154-
3. Start each chapter with a quote. Or, better yet, a song chourus or even all the lyrics.
4102 words!
Max is becoming unable to function (his brain is shutting down from all the strange things he’s seen. It’s a common malady when Waketime people are exposed to Dreamtime objects and creatures) and in that state, he’s not going to be able to get to Windhenge. I’m thinking of introducing an ex-Dreamer who’s in league with the Somniad Merlinus- and then killing him off immediately as soon as they reach Dreamtime. I think I’ll call him Amadeus Greene. Any suggestions for his physical and mental characteristics? (He’s about fifty, but that’s all I’ve got.)
Actually, I’ll make the ex-Dreamer a woman. I’m open to names.
I still have 6024 words. I don’t think I’ll write much more today, my brain’s pretty much done.
I actually don’t think I’m going to have a huge crisis or anythign in my story. I’ve been thinking about it a lot, and, really, Muse Academy is too perfect to have an antagonist, etc. So I’m just going to have my characters have adventures around MA and such. You’ll see…
Ex-Inspirator. Sorry about that, and about the triple post.
4437 words!
1471! Speaking 1337 helps, you know.
I just downloaded this really cool “NaNo Report Card” thing. It calculates the rate you’re writing, how much more you need to do, etc. Here’s my information so far:
Words left to complete NaNo: 43,976
At this rate you’ll be done on: November 16th, 2007 (that’s going to happen. But you never know…)
Percent complete: 12%
Your NaNoWriMo Health: You’re doing great! At this rate you’ll finish ahead of schedule. (*cough*)
I’m still a-writing away.
I think I’ll call the ex-dreamer Maria Greene.
One thing that really helped me, story-quality wise and word-count wise, was going back to the beginning and adding a lot of description. It was really fun, too!
161- are we in your story (MBers that is)?
165- Where did you get it from?
167- I do better if I never look back. I’ve learned from experience that if I look back, I will scrap the whole story and begin again until it sounds better. And that’s not an option with NaNo. I just build up as much momentum as possible.
4660 words!
More tips for getting higher word counts:
Use a lot of metaphors.
Describe everything.
4027.
I’m unwilling to write. I think I’ll be more inspired when I come back from the marching band end-of-year thing. I hope so. I’m at where I want to be after two days, but there was a lot of reluctance to write today and if that happens sometime when I have homework, or when I don’t have a built up advance, it would mean bad things.
So far, interesting things in my story:
A completely derailed Italian dialogue, which is funny if you understand it. Babelfish had problems with the whole thing, doing stuff like translating “sei” as six when it was meant to be “you are”.
Character’s inner personalities talking to themselves. Not turning out the way I imagined, but not rewriting it.
The main character working on her nano, which is about me, and in which I the subcharacter make references to things in my nano, which is about her…
So far, I’ve only quoted some of the chorus of Someone Keeps Moving My Chair, but I’ve been mentioning many books from our reality.
Here’s an excerpt, describing the room in which Max recuperates from eputosis. My MB reference is hidden in there. See if you can find it.
Max’s vision cleared a bit more. He saw an ornately carved headboard with an overabundance of glittery pinecones, immaculate white sheets, and yellow walls. No windows, he thought. Weird.
Indeed, all of the light came from a porcelain lamp suspended from the ceiling. A nightstand stood by the bed, balanced on three elegant legs and one jagged stump held up by seven volumes of an encyclopedia. A machine that looked like a cross between a scanner and a sound system sat on it, along with a mug containing something like purple coffee. Max was surprised to see the Somniad Merlinus suspended in the machine. He supposed it must be some sort of device that made it easier to carry on a conversation with the book.
Beyond the nightstand stood a woman with silver-shot auburn hair. She might have been a model if she had been twenty years younger and a foot shorter than her towering 6’5″. She wore a large and voluminous bathrobe. Its teal terrycloth clashed violently with her bunny slippers. Despite the fact that her footwear were a bright and cheery shade of hot pink, Max thought there was something unnacountably sinister about them.
147- I feel your pain. But at least you *have* a word processor.
Wait, strike that. My word processor is called paper and pencil. And I’m not too happy about that, either. I cannot WAIT till I get my computer, whihc wqill happen later this month.
154- That could get a little annoying, you know… I’ve described almost nothing. I’l think I’ll give the West Tree a huge and impressive description. It’s over a thousand years old, you know.
Maybe the town Daisy’s staying in will be called West. This would fix my complete inability to post it anywhere because I wouldn’t be using the name of my won. Plus it would give the West Tree’s name a grain of practicality.
I have less time on the computer than usual. I’ll return if I still have time after reading the random thread and write my story. *sorry*
2171! w00t.
175- What’s happened so far?
I have 4871 words. Almost at today’s goal of 5000.
Oh my god! I can’t believe it! I just wrote a lot-and then I hit refresh before I posted it-I’ve never lost anything through refresh before-and it all DISAPPEARED!
173- good. not only do you have the HPBs there is olsyfact that you have the evil women warin them!
176- :(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(
I can’t wait to get the characters to Dreamtime.
179- Actually, she’s on Max’s side.
I think I’ll keep her alive. I don’t have enough female characters.
Oh well. What I write the second time is always better.
Almost always.
Sure, West was nice. The river was pretty and the whole place was impossibly green. Daisy would have been enjoying herself if this vacation hadn’t been so boring. The most exciting thing that had happened so far had been when she went to an island and fell out the rowboat.
Daisy yawned, counting the mileposts. The trees continued to flash by. One. Two. Three. One, two, three. One two three. Onetwothree.
There was a noise like a gunshot, and out of the trees appeared several men dressed in cowboy costumes. Daisy found she was no longer in the car, but standing in a old western town that looked more like a movie set than anything else. She peered around the side of a building to find that it was a movie set, and in fact all there was behind the front was a tree about three feet high. Instinctively she knew it was the West Tree.
Then she scene flashed and without remembering how she got there, Daisy was being held by one of the cowboys.
“Wait!” she cried. “Don’t shoot! I need to call Robbie! I promised I’d tell him if I saw a cowboy!”
“We’re here!” sang a familiar voice. Daisy opened her eyes and was in the car again.
Sorta boring and totally pointless, but at least it raises my word count.
I have over 6000 now. And still writing.
5150 words. *dorky happy dance*
168 (widdershins) – I’ll only put you in my story if you say you want to be in it. I think you said that on a previous thread, but I’m not sure. I’ll have to check my list. The MBers I include will be either teachers, or portraits on the walls.
178 (Alice) – Oh, how terrible! Did you try hitting the “back” button? *sends happy wishes*
…and I still have 6024 words. Now I’m almost positive I won’t have anything more tonight. But that’s okay, I’m ahead, so I’m happy.
Here’s the first paragraph of my story (part of the Prologue):
If you peered into the window of that mysterious old building in the mists of Iceland, you would be quite confused indeed. The walls, lined with worn bookcases and glass chandeliers, looked very elegant, though carried an aura of happiness and childhood. The ceiling was painted an off-white color. Eggshell, some might say. The walls were splattered with different colors, a rainbow of creativity. Dozens of woven throw-rugs were scattered around the floor, carpeting the cold marble. Nine strangely-shaped creatures sat on the rugs, discussing something. If you had the chance to peer into this window (though you wouldn’t, because the building is secret and it would be quite impossible for you to do so), you would hear quiet muttering and discussion.
3,218. Soooo close to the 3334 goal if you’re going for 1667 a day… hopefully I’l go over from writing in the car on the way to practice.
PP, if you want to put me in your story, I would be honored but don’t feel obligated to put me in.
185-Boogity boogity boo!
Does anyone have any prologue ideas for me? I think I’ll go back and put one in, but I can’t think of a good one.
186 (Jadestone) – I’ll definitely put you in! Would you like to be a teacher? What would you like to teach?
187 (Beavo) – What?
188 (PraCan) – I’m not sure. My story is in first person (I hardly ever write stories in first person, they’re always in third person, so I thought I’d branch out), and I put my prologue in third person. Maybe you could try something like that?
PP- I’ve mentioned this before, but I would love to be in your story. Preferably as a teacher… Though I wouldn’t object to being a portrait, either.
It would be cool to be in someone else’s story.
[]
I’m planning on using MB names as names too. Does anyone want to be in mine? [You have to have a one word name, like Beavo or Jadestone or Glassboro].
176- Zombie goes to school. Is confused. Girl falls in love w/ zombie. Zombie is planning to make all students zombies.
808 more words till quota!
189- Good suggestion, but my story is in third person. Perhaps I’ll make the tense present instead of past- Philip Reeve does that in Mortal Engines with a few of his chapters, and it makes it more suspenseful.
I think I’m going to try to work in as many MB names as I can, though not as characters, so not necessarily as names. That should be a challenge.
(40) My genre so far appears to be Southern pseudogothic, geometry optional. We’ll see as it progresses.
Word count is 3639.
7037 words!
195- I am somewhat envious.
There’s more posts here then on NaNovember!
Word Count: 1966!
My word count is somewhat over 5000. Maybe close to 6000. But I’m kind of stuck.
2016! Yay!
so I signed up for nano on october 31. current word count: maybe 400? but i haven’t really been writing… I’m going to try to get to 4000 tonight.
5473 words. The explanation of the Dreamtime is going well. It seems a bit cliche, but that can’t be helped.
I changed Maria Greene into Maura Dorcas Greene. More interesting, and bumps up my word count more.
2552!
I wish I could think of something meaningful to post. I’m feeling confident about my NaNo getting finished, but good… that’s another matter. It looks hurried, sloppy, meh in the worst sense of the grunt. But of course, if I want to finish it before the potatoes burn, I can’t edit it. Oh, well, there’s always December.
7089! And now I’m going to bed, since I have to get up at 5:00 tomorrow. I sadly probably won’t get to write anything.
Still 6024. I’ve probably said that about a dozen times. I’ll write more tomorrow–my goal is to get 9,000 done tomorrow. (3,000 a day on the weekends). I’ve gotten off to a really good start. A few days ago, I thought there was absolutely no way that I could make it, but now I’m starting to think that I might be able to… *hopes*
Basically for every story I’ve written since I came to MuseBlog has had MB names in it. Real names, though. I wonder what my fiction teacher would say if he saw a character named “oxlin widdershins” or something in one of my stories…
I’m becoming addicted to this thread.
Phew! I’ve got about 7500 words now… It’s been slow going because I composed a rather long rhyming curse for Thursday to say when she discovered that someone attempted to use some of the world barrier’s magic to attempt a war. It goes like this:
“Day above and Night below
Angels flee with devils in tow
Life will die and Death will flow…
Fire before and water behind
The silver king becomes entwined
The tangled winds are soon aligned…
By the blood of thousands dead…
By the tears of thousands left to mourn…
Towers rise and towers fall
The devil’s chalice swallows all
And the shadows, fire’s pall…
By ancient songs and endless wrongs…
By ageless foes and countless woes…
May the wrath of the sky open upon you
May the earth release it’s wrath upon you!
That you may cease to live,
And cease to die,
Water burns, fire soothes,
A life of naught but truths…
So soon a life of untruths…”
I’ve hit 8000 words…
205- you could always use oxlin as a street name…. I know I have a Penton Ln and a Montgomery Ave among others (there’s a real name street off a modification of SM’s first name) in my city. The one that everything is set in.
206- *that* is slow going? I’m only at 665….
208- Um, yeah. I usually write at a much faster rate than five hundred words an hour. Which is how long it took me to write the scene with the poem.
…727…
208 (widdershins) – That’s a fantastic idea! *plans to use MB names for every street and such*
I haven’t timed myself writing. Maybe I’ll look at the clock when I start and finish to see how long it takes me to write. My NaNo is much easier to write than I originally thought it would be. Probably because it’s so fun!
1252!
AHHHHH FIRST PERSON IIN DIARY FORMAT IS HAAARD
*adapting storyline*
no, wait, I could just add DIALOGUE and POOF! Words! hehe.
I HATE FIRST PERSON. But I’m at 3372!
I’m doing it in first person. It pwns.
6702 words! Still a long way away from today’s goal, though.
My first chapter is about 6500 words. I wonder if I should change that. *ponders*
213 (Kiki) – I’m writing in first person, too. It’s actually quite difficult for me because I never write in first person. I keep switching to third person accidentally.
I’m on this wagon, too. Count me in.
My novel may not turn out to be very good, but I seriously hope I get past 25000 this year. I hope so.
215- Yeah, I’m trying to avoid that. It’s happened.
3973! About 1000 more till quota… I really suck. *headdesk*
I’m sticking third-person chapters in here and there, to describe the Muse Meetings. It’s more like a narrator, though, because they add in funny comments every once in awhile
(such as, “No! I can’t tell you that! If I tell you that, I’ll lose my job!”)
7465 words!
219- Wait, you’re writing about Muses? Post an excerpt!
6072 words. Everyone’s leaving me behindz! But I hope to get to 8000 today. And we have a really long Thanksgiving vacation.
6566 words.
3147. I’m hoping to get to 5000 today, but I don’t know if I will. My strategy is to try and do 1667 on week days, and on weekends and free days do as many as I can, at least 1667, so if I miss a day it won’t matter too much.
I cleverly forgot about nano on triple aces, so I have to catch up. I’ve almost wrote the most I’ve ever written.
I’ve decided that at 5000 words I’ll let the main characters meet each other and the adventure begin. RIght now it’s mostly background.
I’m writing in first person, past tense. It’s hard!
7050 words.
I’m definitely keeping Maura Dorcas Greene alive.
I have no clue how many words I’ve been writing. I’m just writing until my brain dies every day and hoping I make count. Mine is in 1st person from a werewolf girl named Addisyn and she has to tell this girl named Zoey something but I don’t know what that’s going to be yet. I better go write now. Bye!
I’m 2007 words behind! isn’t that special…
but dad’s using word upstairs, and i haven’t told parentals that i’m doing this, for various reasons, so i can’t write any more for now…
i really like arden (the guy who snuck in, who wasn’t supposed to be there) Rowena, the girl who was supposed to be my MC, is so hard to write though…so i guess arden’s the MC now. *sigh* and i was specifically going to try a girl MC this year. oh well.
220 (Kiki) – I posted the first paragraph of my story (part of the prologue) in post 185
223 (Lady Cinnamon) – Mine’s in first person past tense too!
I’ve done so much description of the setting and background, but I have hardly developed the characters at all. Maybe I should get on that…
Still 7465 words. I’m about to start writing again.
8896 words. I’m hoping to hit 10,000+ today.
9114.
How many should we have by now?
I just reached 3003. Yay, palindromic.
I am so far off from my original idea now it’s crazy. Nothing’s turning out the way I thought it would and I’m lovin’ it!
9781 words.
TNÖ – Is your personal goal over 50,000? You’re doing really well, congratulations!!
I have 8191 words, and my goal for today is 9000.
232- Yes, actually, I want to get 100,000.
9855 words.
I am exactly 700 words away from Day 3 Quota. *writes*
233- You are a superhuman. 10,000 words in 3 days? Man, I wish I could get 2000 words in one day.
Almost 8000 words, and I’ve barely had any time to write today. My goal is to write 500 more words before I have to leave for a church thing, and 500 words after I get back.
10,035
4078
First person present tense. I always write fiction in first person present tense unless I make a specific effort. I think in first person present or future tense, and the novel’s about my thoughts, kind of.
Each chapter is, on average, a single spaced page long. I’m just making chapter divisions whenever there’s a time skip overnight, or when it feels like it’s been a while since the last chapter started.
Haven’t written anything yet today so still 4027. I slept the whole day. I wrote 600 marching band words that I could work into nano. My character’s nano is about the collapse of my life; I only ever have her write when I want to complain or feel bad. It really isn’t that bad.
I want 10K by the end of the weekend. 3000 words today, 3000 tomorrow. Or just write as much as possible.
2, 600 and some. I need about 2,400 words today to get to Quota. this is the most I have ever writen with my main charector not being pushed aside.
238- I think in third person, past tense.
i’ve done 331words! yippee! and i think i have a plot. maybe…not. whatever. i am so behind. well, off to catch up. and i’m doing mine in notepad. which sucks.
203- My problem exactly. Or one of them.
205- I actually wrote down all the real names of MBers that I could think of, and I’ve used a few of them. Daisy’s younger sister is Kathleen, though she goes by Kathy.
206- *awe*
208- Sadly, I don’t have a city to do that with. Maybe the library in West can be named after a MuseBlogger.
I estimate I have about 1700 words, maybe 2000 or maybe 1500. I think that not writing in bed might help a lot, because when I go to bed at eight, I only write for an hour before I fall asleep. The thing is, I’m scared stiff that if I stay up past nine I’m going to hear mysterious noises on the stairs and I, above all, do NOT want to encounter the maker of these noises. As long as I’m asleep, ghosts can go in and out of my room as they please, but I don’t want to be awake when they do. Not that it was my room they were in at all, but it’s still scary.
I am going to write up a list of novels. here are the museblogs doing NaNo:

if I made a mistake, please repost the list, and tell me.
also, will people I don’t have tell me the story?
ah, darn! I have less than I thought!
I am NaNoing as I MB.
I’m doing the Excelsior/Earth thing… no title yet.
247- did the GAPAs add that to post 243, or did I?
[Must have been the GnaGnoGnome. –Admin.]
GAPA, I’m assuming. Since it wasn’t there before, you know.
249-it was a Gnome, as from the look of it.
11,052 words.
it is rather creepy that this theard has more posts than the random theard. and that the random theard has only 86 post at 6 on the third day of existance. must be something about NaNo.
2,610 words!
w00t! Quota! More than quota! And I think I’ll write some more! But the NaNo site is slow…
sry for the 2post
The NaNo site is being RIDICULOUSLY SLOW. grrr. And I really need to update my word count.
7075 words. My goal today is 8000. I’ve got to get going.
206-wow…that is amazing
i am SO far behind. grr.
243-Mine actually isn’t a Muse Fanfiction. It’s a novel about a wizard named Josh, a witch named Rosetta, and a wizard (who dosn’t know it) named Drew.
Quota for tonight=5000 words.
I definitely just realized that the little numbers on the bottom of word, next to the book with the check mark, are the word count. is ebeth slow or what?
I need the permission of Ebeth and Jadestone to form a school in my NaNo called Jabeth.
Word count=2888
260-I don’t kno y Ebeth is writing in the third person but greekgurl…etc finds it highly amusing
7312 words. They’re almost at the airport.
I’d also like to use Kagcomix’s name for the deputy headmaster.
Here’s a quote I just wrote that I think you might like.
Max tuned out and tried to relax. It was hard to feel calm, he reflected, when you had recently been attacked by violet-skinned zombies, your parents had been spirited away to lord knows where by vanishing mercenaries who apparently used Eau de Fruto Rotteno as cologne, and you were taking orders from a talking book.
265- I would NOT like to be Max. *hides*
Word Count: 3040! Bwahahaha!
7799 words. I’ll catch up on the deficiency tomorrow. Or later tonight, since DST gives me an extra hour of sleep. Moi-hahahaha!
TNÖ, you’re amazing.
There was this guy on the NaNo forums who was talking about how he writes two 80,000 word novels every November. That’s 160,000 words! Over 5000 per day! *sigh*
Still at 8191. My goal for today is 9000, so I’d probably better start writing. But, actually, I’m not really in the mood to write. So, I’ll just write extra tomorrow. My goal is 12000 by the end of the weekend. I also don’t have Tuesday off for voting day, so I hope to get 4000 that day as well. We’ll see how it goes…
I’m actually starting to think I can make this. Yay!
260- Really? My book has an X with it (because spellcheck and I are not friends) has to the left of it what page I’m on and how far down the page, then what language (usually English(U.S.) but occasionally Italian (Italy) ). Right-click on a toolbar, and check Word Count, and that’s what I’m using.
4895, but I stopped to check the nano-sites in the middle of a paragraph.
I need another two thousand words tonight.
I did some boring stuff and added half the lyrics from With Love by Hilary Duff. Its supposedly the song on the answering maching of Drew’s girlfriend.
I now have 8015 words. Max has done something really stupid that endangers everyone.
4996 words. I’m staying up half the night to write because I slept half the day. This is not good for my sleep schedule, but it’s not like I would have done better on non-NaNo days sleep-wise.
Yes, this is a procrastinatory post.
In the novel: I’m describing all the marching band stretches in detail for word count purposes. I have no idea how typical (or not) our band’s stretches were.
This chapter’s TMBG song is S-E-X-X-Y. Because it’s marching band. Those who have been in a marching band will know what I mean.
4181! I’m getting a bit better at racking up a word count by describing things. And again, using 1337 helps too.
My NaNo absolutely stinx. But the mere act of writing it is pulling all sorts of half-formed ideas from the back of my mind and giving me the imaginative strength to finish them. Once I’m done, I’ll probably be ready to write about three much better novels. So it’s worth it.
(274) That’s the spirit! And very well put, I should add.
My daily totals read like a timeline: 1774, 1865, 1984. Too bad time travel wouldn’t be appropriate for my story, I could pick the years based on daily word count. Although, now that I think of it, there are other ways to jump around in history that might work.
Yeah band!
Also, I lost the game.
Last night at the Girlyman concert we clapped on offbeats. xD
My point? The fact that you’re writing about marching band is totally amazing. Because band > everything else.
275- Thank you very much. I’m already getting ideas for two books: The Kheperi Formula and an untitled alternate-history fantasy in which Columbus discovered an un-sunken Atlantis. These ideas are too good to use for NaNo next year, so I’ll begin writing one of them over Christmas vacation.
I’m going to write a prologue now. Toodle-oo.
4494. Over quota. Let’s go for 5000, shall we? I’m a bit behind on writing.
My last cue break was totally pointless. But I like this sentance. I love using the word “banished”.
“Again, Drew ignored his father and stormed over to his computer, and banished with a wave of the mouse the Lord of the Rings screensaver featuring Gollum hopping around. Furiously clicking, he popped open the internet browser. In the same time it took to call whomever it was he had AOL e-mail up. He whispered the instructions to the monitor as he preformed them with amazing speed.”
See it? See my awesome use of “banished”? Yes, it’s pwnsome.
I thought I was done for the night at 8629, but I’m currently involved in a deep conversation on AIM, so I won’t be getting of for a while anyway and I may as well write.
I jsut wrote the single worst line in any book, ever. “Free to be a slave for freedom.” Very tempted to delete it. But they are words.
276- I cannot even imagine people who exist without marching band. It isn’t a novel about marching band or anything. But in the novel, this is the time of day in which we would have practiced for marching band, so they are. All of them, because I have trouble thinking of names so I’m using as few characters possible. It’s hard to find a balance in names between it being too weird and it being someone real. I think on Monday I’m going to go ask everyone I know if they mind having me take their name for NaNo.
“National Novel Writing Month is currently undergoing maintenance, and will be back up in an hour or two.” *sad*
8595 words now! If I work hard tomorrow, I can get almost 10000 words done! I’ll be one fifth done with the work and only one tenth done with the month! *DHD (dorky happy dance)*
I’m going to introduce villains soon. Who shall have the honor of being a villian? A GAPA perhaps? Just to let you know, villains are always wearing capes *wiggles eyebrows at cape swishing lovers* and are majorly sarcastic and synical *wiggles eyebrows at synical lovers*. Coontz, Lasely, Spector, and Baker sound like very villainous names.
lol
251- O.O I am so envious. How on earth can you do that??? And PP and PC and MG too, and all you people way above me in word count.
260- Oh my god.
*is awed by the numbers and wishe’s she’d noticed them earlier*
261- FIne by me.
X/ Behiiiind. Had brainblock in the car on the way to the game, and only wrote about a page and a hlaf. Must type it now, and write more before bed.
3715
283- Canix is pretty villainous.
285-Yes, I belive it is. Permission to use? There are still more villains.
Sorry, I clicked submit too early. My apologies.
I need about eight villains more, if PC lets me use his name.
Word Count Quota Reached. 5016. I’m only a bit behind now! And at 5000 words, something interesting happens, Finally! The story can start now.
1105!
still ages behind everyone else though…. I never manage to get winning far. *sigh* my parents don’t let me stay on the comp long enough. and I get distracted easily. and I write fairly slowly. somebody tell me it isn’t all about wining?
289- It’s how you play the game? I don’t know. If you put enough into something it becomes about how you feel after, not the scores. If you’re okay with not finishing the novel, but you enjoy writing it, it’s a success.
5592 here. It’s late, I’m tired, I want at least another 500 words before sleep. That would make my goal of 2000 per day, but not the 3000 I wanted today. Oh well. 4000 tomorrow, hopefully. I still have to do all my homework.
Why is the site still offline?!?!?!?
Yes, you can use my name, Beavo.
I have 13 thousand words.
262- I actually talk in third person a lot. All my friends find it highly amusing, too.
My poor characters are just beginning their torturous second day in Ven’ziag. I’m thinking that they’ll be there about fourteen days; six to find the helpful old man (who’s name, incidentially, is Paolt Draycastle) and eight to get back to the teleporter.
Eh, the site needs to get back up again so I can update my wordcount. Right now it’s still back at like 8000…
I never imagined I would be doing this well…a few days ago I thought I would never, ever make 50,000 words. But it’s so much easier (and more fun) to write than last year. I guess it’s just the story. I also have more motivation, because of everyone else on MuseBlog doing it. It’s more fun when we’re all cheering each other on.
I made it to 9145 last night before passing out in my bed. My official strategy is to pretend every day that I’m below quota and write like a woman possessed. I’m unofficially trying to write twice as much as the quota every day, so I can miss some days or be uninspired during week 2 and still win. If I write 4191 words today, I’ll have written eight day’s worth in four days.
I’m always like 100 words above quota each day. Which, technically is a good thing, but not when you’re trying to win.I NEED TO GET INTO THIRD PERSON. What right now I’m doing is every time a new person is telling it from their point of view, I put their name in brackets then they start telling. E.g.:
[karen] OMG. You seriously wouldn’t believe the rumors going around. And it’s only the second day of school! I heard from Lizzy who heard from Sarah, who heard from Dan who got it from a source who prefers to remain anonymous that the new kid, Harry Ezra, is some sort of supernatural being!
I have 8788 words right now. I *want* to get 12000 today, but I’m not sure I can. I have a lot of other stuff to get done as well.
I’ve started doing a lot of character development. It’s hard, though, to remember all of the things I’ve said about the characters, so I’m making stickies (like little post-it-notes on your computer screen) with all their information on it.
I don’t think I’ve ever written in present tense. It always seems awkward when I try..
261-go ahead, i don’t care.
i’ve almost caught up for yesterday…hopefully i can get caught up before church which would leave me plenty of time to finish today’s quota and maybe even some hw (or to get ahead…decisions, decisions…)
(280) MontgomeryGurl — sounds to me like the kind of line you can come back to later and ask, “what was I thinking when I wrote that?” In a serious way, I mean. It could very well lead to something interesting. That’s one of the advantages of leaving the raw contents of your mind on the page instead of deleting them.
Most of my NaNovel thus far consists of such placeholder thoughts.
(289) oxlin widdershins — c+q is right. If anything is about how you play the game, it’s NaNo. In fact, its creator designed it that way: word count is completely on the honor system — the software has no idea whether you submit 50,000 actual words or page after page of lorem ipsum — so you are the only real judge of what you accomplish.
I’m like you in that the “keep on writing” approach doesn’t come naturally, so I use NaNo to cultivate it. At the moment, I’m dividing my writing time into two one-hour blocks, trying to stuff 834 words into each. Quite a challenge, when you consider I normally count it lucky to manage half that many words in twice the time.
What interests me is that no matter whether I race through 2000 words or stagger through 200, the number of solid, worthy sentences produced at the end comes out to be about the same. So, I figure, why not go for broke?
3601. grumble. 3067 words below today’s Quota. I have no Idea if I will win.
I have 9273 words. I’m really uninspired right now. I guess I’m probably worried about Model UN, which is tomorrow. I’m just hoping I’ll keep up this lead word-count wise, but I’m doubtful.
*sigh*
I need a name, and the random name generator thing does not work to well.
295-I kinda do that. I write furiously until I get my quota of 3000 words a day, and when I don’t get the EXACT number, I round to the next thousand and the next and the next until I conk out.
I did the unspeakable. I edited last night whilst I should have been writing. I know, its dispicable. I promise I won’t ever do it again.
6403
299- That’s very true. It’ll probably be something like the experience of reading my old diary entries from when I was ten. Perhaps I’ll discover a deep truth about myself while I”m editing this novel.
294 (Purple Panda)- I feel the same way. I like my story a lot better this year, and I kind of have a better idea of how to make the plot keep giong. I think mainly, though, I’m just a more mature writer. And I gave myself permission to write a story that I don’t think is high art. The community aspect definitely helps keep me going. I don’t want to fail in front of all my friends!
This morning before church I wrote a 400 word introduction (I’ve been doing those “in which” things under my chapters) to a chapter I decided not to write. I actually like the results. Not only did it boost my word count, but it could provide the inspiration for a whole style of writing. I could imagine myself writing a tongue in cheek story the way I wrote that portion of my novel.
Even if I reach 50,000 early, I’m going to write until I finish the novel. Then I’ll set it to the side and edit it sometime early next year.
Oh, sorry about this double post, but I need a name for my main character. I was calling him Tom Young, but that isn’t working out so well for me. I made a few references to Tom Cruise, another important character is named Tim, and the whole thing is going to get very confusing. I need a name that sounds very innocuous, some random person you may meet on the street. I’m already using Ron and Jim, and my girl characters are Regina, Jennifer, and Karen. Do you have any ideas for a name that doesn’t sound like any of those?
Being my first year doing NaNo, I don’t think I’ll win, but I still want to finish the novel.
5506. I have writer’s block now. CURSES!
306- Will? Adam? Luke? Ben?
I signed up for the young writers program. When I turn thirteen I’m leaving the program and going to the official page. I’m still going for 50,000 though.
308- But I need a last name, too.
6078!
I need last names for my minor characters, but I’m not sure I’m ever going to use them. Ahah! I can use last names of kids in my school!
Amy… Parker?
Bobby… Bearman?
Yeah, those’ll work.
309- Smith? Morris? Hughes?
(306, 309, 310) Phonebooks are always handy for finding names. As are genealogy sites. Googling “names” or “surnames” will bring up numerous places to look. You can also try kleimo.com/random/name.cfm for a random name generator based on old census lists.
Also Seventh Sanctum is good too for names. Just google it.
I think I’m going to write a prologue now…
8674 words so far. I’m having a little technical trouble. Once I reach the Dreamtime, that’ll be completely eliminated.
11163. My plot is going to get started soon. I have a vague idea what’s going to happen, but I like not knowing who’s going to end up with who, and how everyone is going to get betrayed. It rocks.
9066 words! I have only 934 until I’m one-fifth done with the entire novel!
6732!
4,043!
it keeps going away
still 1600 words to go for today *dies*
i’ve been writing sooo much. and there’s not enough pressure yet for me to just be quick and sucky. i’ve actually been trying to make it halfway decent. *sigh*
i’m going to go eat, mebbe i’ll have a brainwave during dinner
9528! I’m more than halfway through the last thousand before 10000, my goal for today.
I got 2400 words left!!!
AND I STILL HAVE WRITERS BLOCK.
323- in the 50,000 words, or in today?
4141.
324-Today.
9740.
4212. 30 more words to 4242.
5102. i’ve been focusing on music stuff, so the nano’s been going kind of slowly.
4242!
329- that’s not to bad. you are only 1566.
9937. Here’s another quote.
Half an hour later, they stood in the parking lot of Turn That Stupid Music Down! Rent-a-car, which Max assumed must have been named by someone with dictation software and a close teenage relative. It was much colder there than what Max was used to, and he was glad of the jacket that had seemed hot and stuffy a few hours before.
Maura chose a large and extravagant dark green sports car. She put it on one of her many credit cards.
“Are you going to be able to pay for that?” Max enquired as soon as they had driven out of the parking lot.
She snorted. “Probably not, but my credit card debt is not an issue when compared with our current situation.”
Max didn’t have an answer to that, so he kept quiet.
In about forty-five minutes they had driven out of the city limits and were accelerating down a lonely country road. Maura contradicted the name of the rental business emblazoned on the side of the car by finding “I Am the Walrus” by the Beatles on the radio and cranking up the volume so that the windows vibrated. Max could have sworn the Somniad Merlinus was cringing. They hit a bump in the road, and it flipped open. At least take me off the speakers, it pleaded. That infernal noise is shaking my binding loose.
“If I’m stuck in the middle of this freezing wasteland and risking death or worse at the hands of Crimson Men, I’m darn well going to have a good soundtrack while I do it,” Maura said, and slammed the book shut, preventing further argument.
words beheind 6668.
Only 942 words left until I’ve hit my personal quota for today. That makes me happy.
6069. About two thousand left. *deep breath*
332-That was completely confusing, but funny all the same…
if it is world wide, why does it say national? why is it not WroNoWriMo?
13382. I wrote a little over four thousand words today, and I don’t think I’m going to touch my novel for the rest of the night. I managed to end exactly at the end of the Chapter 6, and I went over my daily quota by about forty words. You don’t mess with a good thing.
10046 words, and that’s it for today, probably.
Do the words “Chapter One” count as words in the word count? Because I haven’t put in chapters yet.
(339) Yup. Every word counts.
I still have 9273 words. I didn’t get much done today, but I had a lot of other stuff to do. I’m planning on writing a lot on Monday night and Tuesday.
Wow… I’m almost done with chapter 6. I wonder how many chapters there are going to be… The first two or three chapters were very short, but the last couple chapters have been verrrrrry long.
340-Bwahahaha! That brings me up to 6120!
I’ll put in chapters on the very last day to cure any deficiencies in word count.
I only have three chapters, plus a prologue. I think my first chapter is over 6000 words long.
332- I like the name of the rent-a-car place.
8943 today (added my 600 marching band words as part of that, though…) and I’ve reached a point from which I won’t be blocked immediately again.
332- Oh my gosh, that is so good. Really. I hate you forever for being able to write that way. I would give you some critiques to be constructive, but it’s NaNo. You don’t edit, just write.
Yeah, Dad dosn’t get the idea of Editing=December. He thinks Editing=Now.
“Joshua Stone woke up, and established that there was a considerable amount of pain on his chest. He groaned. Someone giggled. Josh opened his eyes and looked down.
“Damnit, Bobby, if you don’t get off of me right now I’m going to get my wand and turn every single one of your rocks into little ants!â€
Bobby’s smile vanished, and he hopped down from Josh’s stomach. He stuck a jelly smeared tongue out at Josh, and toddled out of the room.”
I always put a variation of that in one of my stories.
347- Thank you for not critiquing it. If this wasn’t NaNoWriMo, I would have already edited it seven times.
It’s funny how admiration is often coupled with hatred during November on the blog.
Someone should make a cheesy song entitled “No-vem-ber on the Blog.“
336- NaNoWriMo has a better ring to it.
10146 words. I finished all my HW, and it’s still an hour and a half before I have to go to bed. Things are looking up.
It’s getting cold and the leaves look old and the Musers are agog,
Whether they’re in Balt- imore or in Galt, or sinking in a bog,
Who knows why or how? They’re going crazy now,
‘Cos without fail in spite of hail it’s November on the blog! HEY!
10002 exactly.
352- *hysterical laughter* it’s so- so TRUE! I’m somewhere around 15,000 words meself.
I actually might start working on NaNo for a little while.
I have a Model UN conference tomorrow, and I’m EXTREMELY nervous. It’s nine hours of horror. So, I can’t sleep.
But maybe I should try again…
*ponders*
I am going directly on my target. 7500. I might have already said this, but I made a handy little spreadsheet that has how many words I need to get to my target for the day, and how many words I have written. I’ll write some more once I’m done here.
Goal for today: 8000, 9000 if possible.
AAGH, I’m getting cliche. The zombie-master (MC #1) is saying how he’s not a pure-blood zombie master. GAH. gotta… get out of… fantasy rut…
Ugh, me too. I’m trying to make being able to preform magic not horribly un-realistic. I’ve stolen a whole bunch of stuff from Harry Potter like charms and the idea of a Portkey.
Eh, at the moment I truly hate my novel. I plan to be editing well into summer… Sigh. *is impatient to finish novel and begin editing out atrocities*
I am Happy!
! I am on my 5,146 word! and I have just had a plot twist!
I am going to make this a screen play in june for script frensy.
My school has election day off. So I will type a lot on tomorrow. My grammer and punctuation are horrible.
Hum. I can’t think of ANYTHING to write.
Wow, this filled up quickly. May I suggest a new thread?
urgh, I’m going to go cure my WB now. See y’all later!
Can a thread be created just to show snips of our novels?
This morning before I went to my classes I managed to write a bunch of dialogue. I am surprised by how much I like it. It actually sounds natural, something people might say. It may turn out to be an instance of a “darling” that needs to be killed, but for now I’m quite pleasantly surprised by what came off of my fingers this morning.
(366) We’ll get there, eventually. Meanwhile, feel free to post snippets on this thread if you like, as some others have already done.
10705 words. They’re almost at the Dreamtime.
I can’t wait to write tomorrow–tons of fun character descriptions and stuff.
Unfortunately, I only have about 5,000 some-odd words. I have introduced the link gnomes, though, and they = love. And Robert Coontz’s name has been mentioned numerous times.
I kind of hate my nano, to tell the truth, but some parts of it are fun. There are a couple sections, though, that make me want to defenestrate whoever came up with this whole NANO thing. Not seriously.
So why, then, am I procrastinating on MB?
I hope you like my parts, at least.
WB is gone.
11015 words. They have now officially left our world.
370- Awesome. What do the [link gnomes] look like?
My story is entitled, Basic Geometry.
“What is this for?†Stuart asked. But his question went unanswered, for just then another car came out of nowhere and smashed into the pileup, this time hitting the gas container. The explosion killed everything in the area, but left the glass untouched.
“What is this?†Stuart asked this time, and he got his answer.
“Have you taken the math course Geometry yet? Good, then you know all about planes lines and figures, and points right? Excellent. What Jamison just drew was a Slide On Temporary Figure. The figure used several condensed planes to protect us on all sides. The pencil didn’t really draw anything, it just woke the existing lines and points up. Teleportation can also be achieved with this. You see, in my time there are maps that show the entire universe, you just draw a point, and you have to be in that point to start with, and because you could be able to be anywhere within the point and still be in the point, you are still where you started out, in the point, although your position may change in the point. Let me show you.†Stewart took out a map, and his own pencil. He spread the map on the ground and said into it, “Milky Way, Sol System, Inner Planets, Earth, Northern Hemisphere, Western Hemisphere, United States of America, South, Southeast, North Carolina, Piedmont, *** county. Ah, here we are,†Stewart said, pointing to a miniscule spot on the map. “Enlarge at point.†he said, and the point where he pointed enlarged, showing the street where they were, and individual dots for each of them, with their names labeled. “So you see,†he continued, “I just have to expand my ‘dot’,†he said, using air parentheses, “and it moves to include both of you. Now all you have to do is think up a proof about how we were in the point, and yet because our position hadn’t been verified in the point, we could actually be over here,†he pointed to a point in the point, “but the universe didn’t know because it still is only thinking of us in the point. So in conclusion, I am here,†and he vanished, to appear in less then a second on the far edge of the dot, “and here at the same time. There is just one technicality, the wider the dot, the longer it takes for you to get to your destination, and the more dangerous it is. If I wanted to go to the other side of the universe, then I would probably get there inside out, or with my spleen and pancreas in different places. Fooling nature is very dangerous.
That is all I wrote today.
I got into quintuple digits!!! *is joyful and has completely stopped writing due to this*
10333
375- I nearly passed out when I passed the 10000 word mark. I think I’m going to make it past 15000 tonight, and I’m sure I’ll nearly die when I realize how much I’ve actually put in to this novel.
My friend M is doing NaNo (she’s in 7th grade and doing the YW program, but still) and aiming for 40,000 words.
Does anybody have tips on WB…?
371-Oh yes. They’re my favorite.
373-I’ll post the descriptions later… any specifics you think I should include?
Here’s a 95-word excerpt from my story. It’s in one of the Muse Meetings.
“Time to start the PIE WAR?!?!?!!?!?†Kokopelli asked.
“Don’t even ask, Kokopelli,†Bo said, while munching on some grass. “The kids haven’t even been here for one day yet. You know we save that for the spring.â€
“So? Who says we can’t shake things up every once and awhile? You know, be adventurous.†Kokopelli juggled some apple pies in his hands.
“Kokopelli, don’t push it,†Chad said.
“FINE.†Kokopelli sat down on a woven rug and set his pies down next to him, gently. He muttered something to himself, but the other Muses ignored him.
Since this seems to be the thread for it: *more dorky dancing*
In other words, another 5-digit crossing. 10,171.
*behind* Gotta get to 5 digits today… well, i have plenty of time.
NaNo seems flawed. lt urges people to crank out novels like machines. l’m not going to enter until next year. My word count so far is exactly 42.
*happy dance* I’m at 15278, which is twice what I wrote last year. I’m past the thirty percent mark!
(383) Here is the point of NaNo as described in the web site’s FAQ (interesting that it should mention pie…):
“Why are you doing this? What do you get out of it?
“NaNoWriMo is all about the magical power of deadlines. Give someone a goal and a goal-minded community and miracles are bound to happen. Pies will be eaten at amazing rates. Alfalfa will be harvested like never before. And novels will be written in a month.
“Part of the reason we organize NaNoWriMo is just to get a book written. We love the fringe benefits accrued to novelists. For one month out of the year, we can stew and storm, and make a huge mess of our apartments and drink lots of coffee at odd hours. And we can do all of these things loudly, in front of people. As satisfying as it is to reach deep within yourself and pull out an unexpectedly passable work of art, it is equally (if not more) satisfying to be able to dramatize the process at social gatherings.
“But that artsy drama window is woefully short. The other reason we do NaNoWriMo is because the glow from making big, messy art, and watching others make big, messy art, lasts for a long, long time. The act of sustained creation does bizarre, wonderful things to you. It changes the way you read. And changes, a little bit, your sense of self. We like that.”
10,053 words! I’ve passed the 10,000 mark!
*dorky happy dance*
6570. And i have no idea what’s happening any more…i just hope my MC will be able to explain it to me…
since so many people are in the 10,000, that is my new goal for the day.
10 thousand and something.
I was novelling along, not even caring, when I hit the week two wall with a crash. I can’t write anything now, I can’t figure out what to have my characters do, and the whole thing just seems really stupid.
16114. I wanted to make it to 20k today, but that is not going to happen with the way things have been going today.
I hit the two week wall yesterday. Now all I can do is describe what I had in mind, and then wait for an inspiratioin. *sits down and smiles patienctly*
Word Count: 7010
I hit the wall just now, but countered it with a plot devise, preventing my main character from having to answer the math question he wasn’t listning to. I got him sent to the principal’s office.
What two week wall? *prepares to be pied*
8.5k… grrr. 1500 more words!!!
12010 words. I can’t figure out why people think there’s a “two week wall.”
383-i know how you feel. iwrote 3000 words and then read my novel over again. it was horrible so i scrapped it and am now on my new one, which i flowing a lot better!
whats a two week wall? i am in the one week wall right now.
Hey, week one always goes very well, you like your story, you’re excited, all of that stuff. Sometime in week two you hate it all and want to give up. Maybe you people haven’t encountered this, but it is well documented on the NaNoWriMo website.
16831 words.
I haven’t been working on mine at all, mostly because I don’t want to write it on paper and my desperate need to edit is killing my brain. I think I’ll rewrite it tonight, describing a LOT. Tomorrow I don’t have any school, so that’s helpful, and when I get a computer there will be a huge spurt of creativity.
Not everyone hits the Second Week Wall, but it does seem to be an especially vulnerable time when a lot of people drop out.
For me, the first week is always the killer. My writing is tormentingly mediocre, my characters are lazy, and my plot is all but nonexistent.
This is good. I know that if I keep plugging along at the 1800 or so words per day I’ve been averaging, all the ideas that are tumbling about in every which direction will begin to array themselves in some sort of distinguishable pattern, even if right now I can’t even see what they have to do with my story.
But I’m happy enough, because I know the rush after breaking through a lumbering slog is like nothing else.
312- I like reading the phone book, weird as it seems.
397- I think I must have missed week one. I hit the two-week wall on Triple Aces. Isn’t that just sad?
Oh well. Home again, home again.
You know, no matter how I pretend to be a good sport, I’m going to be horribly depressed if I haven’t finished by the end. I should probably just quit now and spare myself the agony, but I can’t.
I need to make a note of this. Procyon, Chara, Saiph. I know this is completely incomprehensible, but I want to remember it.
12046 words.
The Halfway Point is midnight on the 15th, which will henceforward be known as ____________. (fill in the blank. Any ideas?). November 29th is Eleventh Hour. November 30th is Dark Thirty.
11050 or so
I haven’t hit the two week wall yet unless you count a brief period of writers block yesterday…
7244. I got NO WORK done today. A stinky few words. STINKY.
Thursday is becoming almost chronically depressed… sigh.
I’ve definitely hit the 2-week wall. 10053 words. I hope it goes away soon!
Is there a 3-week wall-falls-down?
So far, I haven’t hit any walls. I might during the last week.
406- Theoretically, around week three you get reinspired and your novel comes together and goes from completely crappy to not half bad.
I’m not sure if I’ve really hit the wall yet, aside from the writer’s block for half of today. I managed to crank out a little over 5000 words, though. Currently at 20014, which is ten words over my goal for today.
8825. Had to do homework all day. Same tomarrow likely. Also lost a hockey game in which we all played crappy then my bag broke comming up the stairs so now I’m just tired and stressed and unhappy. My poor character, whenever I don’t know what to write I pour myself into her. She’s going to be so depressed.
I am nearly one quarter done with the entire novel, and I haven’t even introduced all the characters yet. For lack of a better expression, “squee.”
11253. Will try and get 12000 tonight. i’m about 1000 above my target.
No walls yet.
i’m at 2,101 words. i feel special. i have barely even thought about the plot yet. all i know is it is late medieval age and there is ots of fighting and spying and cool stuff like that. and of course there are bad guys. i think i am going to kill most of my characters by the end. it’ll be fun. and i hit my wall on day one.
401-how ’bout the Battle of Midway? heehee. i don’t think world war two and Nano have anything jin common, but it sounds cool.
If you go to my user page on the NaNo site, you can see what I’ve written so far. It’s not much, but it’s something.
I have about 730 words. Woot woot. Not. Back to writing!
9153. *headdesk* If I continue this way, I might get to this year’s goal: 40k. Last year I only reached 20k. I like my story though. I’ve hit a wall with the romance thing. I need to get to climax #1: where MC#2 (hazven) discovers a way to make THE UNDEAD. duh-duh-duh.
12536. I am One Quarter Done. *dhd*
8828. i don’t know if i hate it or love it or what yet…i haven’t really had time to think about it, i’ve been trying so hard to catch up along with all the other things i’ve been doing (guy fawkes, jazz band’s starting, etc)
anyway, i’ll definitely be caught up by the weekend
also, i’ve found that somewhere between 2k and 3k is my maximum for a day without it being totally random and crappy. Which is partially why i’m still behind, because i’m actually trying to write a good story this year (can’t promise anything though)
My goal of 4,000 on Tuesday did not happen. Thanks to walls and homework, I only wrote 780 words. I’m still at 10,053, but I’m hoping to get some done later tonight.
417-For now, I’m worried about just getting the word count up without coming up with something completely ranting and crappy and ranting.
Yeah, that brings me up to 7879 words. Is that good for a first time NaNoer?
And NaNo’s affecting my every day life. We had to write a one paragraph summary of something in english, and I took out all my awesome hyphens and described the freckles on Nick’s face in amazing detail. It was a pretty good summary, to be sure, but it was a 34 sentance paragraph.
I’ve reached 12996 words.
419-from what i know of english teachers, they LOVE detail. when i was smaller i was very straightforward and didn’t really describe anything in detail, and all my english teachers were like DETAIL! DETAIL! So nano’s helped me a lot with my writing in general
also, like monty said (on here or not, i forget, but she’s been saying it), nano made me realize that writing is fun.
i’m reaching 10K tonight. definitely. for sure. (i’m at 9+k now, so it’ll work) and i’m definitely catching up this weekend. WOOHOO!
419- hmm. I have 7294 words, so not to bad!
ideas for the 15th:
25 day
royal flush (to go along with tripe aces.)
I’m doubtful about getting a lot done tonight. I’ll hope for a paragraph or so. I have a *lot* of catching up to do since I missed 3 days of school. And I’m on block scheduling so missing 3 days is the equivalent of missing 6 days in regular school. But I have a 3-day weekend, so that should boost my word-count.
*mind boggles* — this thread is really popular! 422 posts already!
Sigh… I’m going to be computerless for three days. Three!
Accomplishment! I’ve reached 8K ON THE DOT! *awkward dancing to Tambourine by Eve because that’s what I’m listining to gosh darnit*
I told y’all that eight was my lucky number! I doubt I’ll get any more writing in tonight, but the 2nd Week Wall has CLEARED! REJOYCE!
And there was much rejoycing. *rejoyces*
must wirte more!
422- I like Royal Flush!
10122! CHUSS. And my writer’s block is gone!
428- just a litle bit over a thouansd under quota!
10003! i’m happy. now i’ll meet quota for the next two days and get all caught up over the weekend (prolly saturday, because i may go see a movie friday)
I plan to write like a maniac over the two weeks of Thanksgiving Vacation and thus cure any deficiency in quota.
1,792!
By the time this rolls off the main page, it will probably have about 1000 comments!
10916 words! That’s all I’m going to get tonight. I hope I can catch up this weekend!
(433) I don’t think we have to wait that long. It seems appropriate to celebrate the beginning of Week Two with a new thread.
