Link gnomes:
A fanatical giggling sound came from the tail of the craft, and a chorus of other small voices, laughing, soon joined it. The sound made a dramatic crescendo of disharmonious individual speakers, and then abruptly exploded into a wail so deep that the roaring of the engines, even, disappeared entirely…
Little, brownie-like creatures about the size of a particularly large garden gnome with skin the color of the plastic leaves of the aforementioned airport plant were huddled together in a small swarm. Their teeth were a repulsive shade of purple, as was their matted and tangled hair that hung over their eyes in a bizarre parody of bangs. Most of them were clothed in jean overalls, spattered with dirt and dust and oil stains. They had no feet (their legs ending in neat stumps), but seemed to hover above in the space with no difficulties. Several sported tattoos, most an earring or two, and none any kind of evidence that they had enjoyed the experience of a bath in the past several months. Even so, they seemed to smell of anything, a rather remarkable thing, and a mysterious fact for the ninjas, who had noses so powerful that some dogs would envy.
Brava, purplefinch! Great opening for a new thread.
Let’s see, so far the MB NaNo calendar looks like this:
opening day = Triple Aces
November 15 = Royal Flush
November 29 = Eleventh Hour
closing day = Dark Thirty
Does Week Two need a name?
2- how about … I have nothing.
will we have on ever week?
(4) Not necessarily, but Part 1 had more than 430 comments, and this seemed like an opportune occasion for a new thread.
wow. I’d post an exert but I’m at school at the moment. Sigh…
I just got one of those spiffy pep talks. They’re really funny. It’s by a woman named Naomi Novik. Anyone else got that one?
Anyway, Hannah’s got 5000 words already.
2-I don’t get it… what’s all this?
(Please don’t hurt me) *ducks*
7- I got that one!
Post # 2 was about our code names for Nov. 1, Nov. 15, Nov. 29, and Nov. 30/Dec. 1, in that order.
Week two title: Wall.
I guess that’s not really original, though. So never mind…
I didn’t make quota yesterday…I only got 10916 words. I hope I can catch up this weekend!
YAY! I’m officially participating! My novel completely sucks so far (yes I know it’s ‘supposed’ to, don’t yell at me – I’m just more editor than writer) and I only have about 30 words but I actually feel kind of good. Of course I have no chance of winning but why not have a go at it!
/gradster(1)/
Haven’t gotten anything done today… I hate Thursdays. I don’t get home until 6:45! I still have 1 hour.
I amire you people…how do you do it? It’s just shoking. I was just tooling around on the nanowrimo website…
Of course, I probably couldn’t sign up in time to have any time at all to write, let alone actually do the writing. I know I won’t have time to write anything this month at this rate (but look at gradster!) but maybe I would try next month or sometime, even if it isn’t the actual month. Anyway, good luck to all of you!
Red-tailed HAWK

Look at me what?
/gradster(1)/
Bad homework. Can’t write much. Will make it up on Thanksgiving Break.
I have 11499 words, not even close to quota. Not even close to yesterday’s quota. But that’s okay, I have a 3-day weekend. And there’s always Thanksgiving.
Also, if people want to be teachers in my story, just let me know what you want to teach. I know Alice, TNÖ, Jadestone, Sweet Melpomene, Elassë~Adael, and Purplefinch said they wanted to be in it. If you want to teach a specific class, let me know!
CHUSSSS 11201! Not quota, but I’m exhausted and it’s good enough for me!
2-Thank you! *blushes*
11-Oh, yeah. I could never get the hang of Thursdays…
My eyes are slightly bloodshot, though I doubt that’s from nano, because I’ve written almost nothing today, and I only have about 6,500-ish on my word count. General lack of sleep, I suppose…
17- You and me both. Not to mention Arthur Dent.
I’d just like to say that monty’s idea is genius. it gave me an idea that i don’t have time to write up tonight, but will no doubt give me an easy 1500 or so words later on.
right now i have to go learn the vet day parade music and then SLEEP so i can get to school early to do my chem (i forgot my book again)
I like Thursdays, actually. Unlike Arthur Dent. They’re my second favorite week-day. Behind Friday, of course.
I just passed the halfway mark. 25055! And now I’m going to bed, because I’m exhausted.
21 (Monty) – *mind boggles*
You’re amazing. Now, you can basically take the entire week off! Not that you would, but if you felt like it you could
22 (Purple Panda) – My goal has been to write twice as much as the “official quota”. That way if something comes up or I can’t write one day, it won’t be a big deal. I spent the night Wednesday with a friend, so I didn’t get to write all of Wednesday and half of Thursday. I went nuts when I got home trying to make it up, but I only managed to make up 75% of it. I actually don’t know how I manage to write so much, I just type and it turns out to be a lot more than I thought it would be.
15- Could I be a Physics teacher?
I have definatly hit the two week wall. You’re sure it’s better by week three? I’m exhausted, and I can’t concentrate on school. If I didn’t think it would be better, I might give up.
15- I want to be an English or Literature teacher.
15- If you’re looking for names… I’d like to teach math, because I like math, or maybe history, because history teachers are usually crazy and fun.
I seem to be slumping. I’m just not interested in nano, life is getting interesting. I want to listen to TMBG songs instead of just checking titles in iTunes and going back to writing. I also want to sleep, but I’ve been to this level of sleep deprivation in school often before.
15058 words from yesterday. I wanted to be at 16K by the end of yesterday. And I have written nothing yet today. Nor do I feel inclined to do so. I will, later…
STILL 10K AAAAHHHH mustwritemustwrite
Just for future reference, my computer like, blocked NaNo (i know, *gasp*) right after i signed up so i am not participating this year
15-I’d love to be in a novel! I really don’t care what class I get, as long as it has nothing to do with science or math.
Over 13000 words and counting.
8204 and counting
slowly.Urgh. Writer’s Block AGAIN. I have a great idea for the next chapters, but I CAN”T GET THERE FAST ENOUGH! *dies*
(33) It’s perfectly fine to jump ahead and write the chapter you want to write. In fact, it’s often a productive way of getting past being blocked.
34-I know, I read that spiffy pep talk. But there’s two problems. It just feels weird, because I write like I read. I save the juicy bits for last, and if they aren’t last, well… it’s just weird.
And should I open another Word document? Or just press enter a bit?
35 (Beavo) – why don’t you just make a bunch of stars or something, enter a few times, then start writing the chapter you were thinking about. You can go back and merge them later.
13638. Not as far as I’d like.
zero, happy? technically im complaining about NaNo on the NaNo thread but no one cares right?
I have to much off a life. LOL.
8500 and some words.
and look at me trying to write a novel under 2,000 words for a contest. NaNo is ad infinitum
(35) Composing out of order often gives me better ideas for what happened before the bit I’m writing at a given moment. Even my emails (and blog posts) are written non-sequentially until I start cruising down through the last few edits. Before that, I skip all around and draft what comes to mind most easily at a given moment, or maybe block out summaries so I don’t forget what I was thinking.
I am so far behind now. 5618 words, to be exact. I had so much crap to do this week… For example, take yesterday:
A chem project to finish that took up 5 hours of time on wednesday and 4 more on thursday (1 1/2 of them after 10 when I got back from hockey), which included making an element ‘cube’ with info and was “pleasant to look at and exactly 6x6x6, and has to have all of this info or you’ll fail”, a paper summerizing the cube and all your information, a reference list with at least 2 book sources and 3 internet ones, and prepare a 5 minute presentation. Then I had hocky game on tuesday and thursday so that was 6 hours each day; a lot of math homework because we have a test on tuesday; a paper to start for english on Slaughterhouse Five; a hard sports med test to study for; 2 spanish quizes, and my 3 hardest classes with the most homework are all in the first 3 periods.
I am so stressed and tired right now. It’s like balencing on the edge of a knife with eyes closed and having it tilt back and forth randomly. I can feel myself on the edge of tears and maniacal laughter, I cracked up durring band and was tearing up at some random thing Ashly said. WHat’s the quote from xkcd? “We laugh to keep from crying” yeah…
36/41-Thank you, thank you. I belive I have thought of something, and shall continue onto the juicy part.
Bwahahaha! In any case, has anyone other than Ebeth sent in a NaNo? Or did that fill the NaNo quota?I will send in my NaNo.
43 (Beavo) – I didn’t send my novel in, but I finished. I’ll definitely send mine this year, though, because it’s about Muse Academy.
I want to also, I’m in serious need of commentary.
I wrote a few love scenes, and my dad DESTROYED them. It was horrid. Example. “As Drew took hold of her hand–Ew! It came off! The throbbing gelatinous mass seaped through his fingers onto the floor. “HEY! Said the janitor. “I object to having throbbing gelatinous mass’s on my floor!”
Ugh! He is too funny for his own good.
15000, should get 16000 by end of today.
I only have 13001 words.
*furiously writes*
I have hit the second-week slog. I only wrote like 400 words yesterday. I need to get to the action-adventure bits. Exotic Locales, here I come!
(the climax is in the sahara.)
And it’s physically impossible for me to do the non-sequential thing. Well, I got nothing at all to do today… so let’s write!
sry for the 2post but
I think I figured out my problem. My brother’s always watching TV when I’m trying to write! And it’s hard to watch the Simpsons and write an adventure/romance epic while watching the stupidest (but best) cartoon in the world.
And it’s 9 AM and my little bro’ll be sleeping till 11!
I have not been on the blog since the day before yesterday.
I haven’t signed up for the nanowrimo, but I’m going to try to get to the goal without signing up. Right now I have 1,253 words, a lot I think for my first few hours ever doing this!
Red-tailed HAWK the Busy!

(51) I added you to the list, RtH.
52-Cool! If you want to know, I titled it “Prairie Passings” and the main characters are horses. I know, it sounds weird, and it probably will be by the end!
Red-tailed HAWK

Here’s my word-count for each day:
Day 1: 3033
Day 2: 2991
Day 3: 2167
Day 4: 1082
Day 5: 0
Day 6: 780
Day 7: 863
Day 8: 583
Day 9: 592
Day 10: 1422
It’s quite depressing. I’m hoping to do better this week, though I’m still in the 2-week slog.
*waits for week 3*
15560. Expert:
“Sialena! It’s not safe. I didn’t tell you before because I didn’t want to worry you, but…”
“What?” There was tension in her voice.
“This area is prone to landslides! When we came Up, a pebble was dislodged and hundreds of Nomads were killed!”
“Thow me a rope, now.” She sounded worried. “We picked one up, right?”
“Yeh.” I threw the rope, thick and rough, watching it snake down into the crater. Then everything happened in slow motion. I stepped back, and the end of rope that I was holding writhed on the ground. It hit a pebble.
I have 11,329 words, which means I am 5,341 behind. I got a few pages typed yesterday, thankfully, and now I’ve caught up my typing with my writing. It’s depressing. But I take comfort in the fact that I’ve made it over what I did last year already, which was 10,283. Though I had about 300 or so words that I didn’t type up last year because I ran out of time, I should do that sometime. Oh well.
I may post a description I have of something to see if it makes sense. It does in my head, but it’s hard to know if I’ve included everything I meant to say. If I didn’t, it may have become confusing.
I should alos really sperate it into chapters, as I havn’t yet. Hmm.
Bah. I won’t be on too much today. But I got another Pep Talk.
Word Count: 9428!! How horrid.
I am the most miserable NaNo-er in the entire history of NaNo. If I had a computer, perhaps, I could at least get a decent wordcount by the end, but at this rate, I’ll have 10,000 words at the end. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Goodbye for now.
58- :sad::sad::sad::sad::sad:x∞ That’s horrible.
For me, the purpose of NaNoWriMo is to exercise my writing muscle. The plot may be cheesy, the writing stilted, the setting dumb, the characters jilted- but I am writing nonetheless, and that works my brain, pulling half-finished ideas that I gave up on long ago off the back burner and beginning to cook them again. As I write a crappy novel, I plan three fantastic ones.
58-*sends Muse of NaNoWriMo*
58- I only got to 10,000 last year, and that was with a computer. If you get that far without one, that’s still an achievement.
Okay, I really need it. I’m skipping ahead. Deep breath. *plunges* I-its c-c-c-cold!
10,016! I’m at 10,000! YAYAYAYAYAYAY!
63- 14342.
14,619 words!
*dorky happy dance*
I know that’s not quota, but I’ve written over 2500 words today, and I’m happy. I think I broke through the wall!!!!

*another dorky happy dance*
Mine is not so much a Wall as a Swamp. I have to struggle through it.
Fortunately, I’m about to introduce Procyon, Chara and Saiph. That ought to help.
58-That’s what I had last year, pretty much. Except I had a computer… and no excuses! *applauds your dedication*
By the way, in French, we were translating sentances, and there was a person named Alice! (Kind of random, but I was rather bored, and it made me think of MB)
And I really wish I knew more about Brazilian culture…
I have a question for everyone: How much time has passed in your story so far?
I have 14916, and not even a whole day has passed
10432, and about three days.
How many words should we have right now? About fifteen thousand, I think.
68- Almost 2 days.
68- Last year mine took up about 3 minutes of one night, a day, and the next night. At 10,000 worrds. Which explains why I’d only gotten into the rising action. Now I’ve done about 2 full days and one night (in the middle of them, obviously). Hopefully I’ll start on the next night tonight.
COnfusing sentince. Hmm.
Anyway, had hockey, then a hockey team dinner-party-thing I need to go to and actually talk to people at so I can get to know the team, as I only see them once or twice a week and havn’t met any before. So now I’m probably behind from all I got done yesterday even. X/
ANyway, gonna close the window now and WRITE. Bye all.
My novel has covered five years so far. Okay, I actually skipped and did the whole “five years later…” thing. The time in my novel has probably covered several weeks. It’s been mainly setting up the story so far. Things are happening, but we’re not even close to a battle scene.
i’m not really sure how much time mine has covered…about a night and most of a day i think. it jumps around between characters though, so they’re all at different times…
in case anyone’s interested Full Blooded Moon (my nonNaNo) is comin along well….
69- About 2 weeks.
64- 16771
Oh, and about a month. My story takes place over at least a year.
I got great filler! MC #2 is a zombie, so he’s muttering nonsense. heh.
I’m at the library right now, doing a write-in with two of my friends who are also doing NaNo. It’s fun, and I’m actually getting some stuff written! Right now I have 17,587 words.
78-Oh, I did something like that. Repetition of thoughts is great, too. (“No time, not now. No time. No time…”) Although that might belong in the tips and tricks.
But I think I have a title! In the Midnight of the Forest sounds kind of cheesy, but it’ll work until I find a better one.
1337 is an awesome filler. I use it so much.
By the way, Ebeth, I read your novel [for the umpeenth time] yesterday.
Repetition of sounds is good too. Instead of “many BOOMFS,” one would say “BOOMF. BOOMF. BOOMF.” etc.
wow and i thought i had random stuff coming out of my head….
Now, I have 19,366 words! So far today I have written 4,738 words!
*dorky happy dance*
Of course, I’ve been writing practically all day, but whatever…
84- Everyone’s leaving me behindz! I only have 15500!
20,010 words! I broke 20K! 40% done!!!
*major dorky happy dance*
86- WAAAH! *dorky envy dance*
I now have over 16000. Pathetic, isn’t it?
87 (PraCan) – You’ll catch up. Do you have tomorrow off of school?
88-Yes. Thank you.
I figure if I can get to 17000 today, I can write 2000 a day this week and reach 25000 by Royal Flush.
88- *pretends that question was directed at her* yes
Everyone I know has had either friday or has monday off. A few I know have both, and one even had thursday too. I am in school all week, thank you very much, and will be leaving for my fourth hocky practice of the weeked in a half hour. Stupid homework.
Grr… and I’ve only written 859 today. Must write in car to and from practice. I’m alreayd so far behind… 4537 from toays count. Though it’s a bit better than yesterday, I suppose… current count 14014. Made it to 14,000 finally…
I’ve got this entire week off.
I wrote about 6K today. *mind boggles*
PraCan–the ENTIRE WEEK!!??!?!? You’re so lucky!! Why?
Because my school has a weird schedule. Summer is two weeks shorter than normal, but Spring and Thanksgiving break are a week longer each.
grrrrrrrrr, y can’t we switch schools? i could take Latin online….
must work faster.
past 10,000! there is still time!
94 (PraCan) – That’s awesome! I think that’s a good idea, because the last few weeks of summer you get really bored, but during the middle of the year you really feel like you need a break.
::wants to transfer to Prarilius Canix’s school::
::well, if I’m transferring schools, I’ll go to MA!::
could we have a thread for posting excerpts?
98- Good idea.
I was sick Thursday. And Friday. And Saturday. And today I’ve been doing schoolwork. Hence, this weekend, since Thursday, I have written not a single word.
Word count: 12046.
And I was going to get to 20000, too, this weekend. Darn it.
* gives Lizzie a virtual hug* Do u feel better now? Don’t worry about NaNo you’ll catch up
I think I have a title… I’m thinking “Below Hielaund” which sounds kinda stupid. I’m waiting until I name the bottom two layers before coming up with a proper title.
*sigh* There’s a part in my story where the MC reads another story, and I don’t know what to write for that one. Actually, I do, it’s just a story I wrote a month ago that would fit in there perfectly. But would it be cheating to use it? I didn’t write it for my Nano, but I did write it earlier.
PraCan-Leaving you BEHIND? I’m still at 10,000!!
14125. I suck. But I have all next week off (except monday, which is stupid) so I’ll catch up then. But i seem to have a physical inability to write more than 2000 words a day. I need to check my story map, because my characters are kind of in stasis.
AGH.
Sorry, I’m at almost 11,000. I’ve got 10,800 summat.
My mom will be on the computer for about 2 hours starting in a few minutes, so I won’t make much progress- but then again, I could start up again at 4.
I hate my NaNoWriMo. But it’s fun.
I’ve noticed that my NaNo is beginning to take on an uncomfortable resemblance to Eoin Colfer’s The Supernaturalists.
44 pages now, and close to 18000 words. My goal for today is 19000.
Hahaha! Second straight day of not a single word nor thought of one on my story. At this rate, with only 1,200 words down, I will need to write nearly 3,000 words every day, with not a day without writing. I just don’t seem to have forged enough of a bond with the story to want to sit down and write, instead of mowing the lawn, or making (and then of course having to deal with [eat] the fudge) Phooey. I’m glad I didn’t sign up now!
This ends my sad tail…
Red-tailed HAWK

I’m actually falling back in love with my story now. The characters are quickly becoming more human (even the ones that aren’t, technically).
After a fantastic day of writing yesterday, I haven’t written much today. I’m hoping to write at least 1K more tonight. I’m stuck at 20437 words. *sigh*
I was aiming for 25K today, but that’s clearly not happening. My new goal is 25K by Royal Flush
112- A reasonable goal. It’s mine too.
15,000 YES
12,920 words!
18,131 words! I’ll try to reach 21,000 tomorrow.
21,830! I have new love for my story after describing Robert’s Chemistry classroom
117- Am I in your story? If not, please can I be? Pleeease?
20011. I should get over 21000 tonight, maybe more.
118 (Lady Cinnamon) – I haven’t written you into the story yet, but you’re scheduled to be a Physics teacher. Is that okay? So far the only teachers I’ve introduced are Ms. Purplefinch and Mr. Coontz. I’m getting thre, though
I’ve written 2,065 words so far. Cheer, cheer!
15736… grr. I had a stupid spanish project and and orthodontist appointment (my teeth are still hurting and I get braces in 2 weeks) so I barely got anything done.
120- Congratulations! Are you on a computer now?
108- Luuurrrve that book
My story is getting really realistic, which I hate but is easy to write. (you know, the whole write what you know thing.) I need to get back into the zombie action. Next chapter comes kissy-kissy, then comes adventure. Plus Amy (minorchar #1) is having troubles. Le omg!
Whoa! 42 pages!
My goal is 17.5k by Royal Flush. Veeeerrrry unrealistic, the way I’m proceeding.
121- 42 pgs? We must be using a different format, I’m over 18000 wds. and still at 24 pgs.
How many words, approximately, should there be per chapter? I need to start breaking this up…
Alice! More than me, and I have a computer (well, my mom’s computer, but she obviously shares for me to blog!)
Red-tailed HAWK

wow. my computer broke along with my 6,000 words. i’m sad. now i have to ransack my computer, pull out its hard drive, steal my sisters computer, plug the hard drive back into hers, and start again. i just hope the hard drive is still working. i was fiddling with the power cable to the cd drive with the computer still on(i know, bad idea) and i accidentally short curcuited the whole darn thing. oops. well, i could always start over *sigh* or i could just replace the motherboard…either way, the hard drive might still not work after a 15 volt power surge. *hits himself with shovel for stupidity* at least i didn’t kill myself. y’never know.
I stole MG’s venting idea. Here’s part of what I came up with. (Note: this is not how I write through the book, this style was just for the venting chapter). And yes, I referenced Muse in this.
In Which the Author Becomes Infuriated with Her Characters, Novel, and Life in General, and Goes on a Random Killing Spree
So, skipping ahead a few years, the aforementioned author skids to a halt at Alis’s graduation ceremony. Unfortunately for Alis, the Earth at that point was undergoing tremendous shakes, and the ceremony was taking place directly over a rather unstable fault line atop a magnetized, gigantic compass.
The reader probably thinks that he- or she – knows what comes next. They very likely think that the author will cause the fault line to open up and send Alis plunging to the fiery depth below, but this is not the case. Oh no, the author is bored needs to pad her word count and is thus going to do something vastly more interesting (and wordy).
As the author mentioned in the previous paragraphs, Alis is not going to be plunged into the depths of the Earth. Rather she is going to die quickly and relatively painlessly, since the author is not quite so mad at Alis as she is some of her other characters.
Just as Alis received her diploma, the unstable fault below caused a spark to ignite a pocket of gas, far, far below the celebrators on the surface.
Once again, the reader probably thinks that they know how Alis is going to die. They now think that the gas pocket blows up and that she dies in the subsequent conflagration, but they would only be half right.
The gas pocket blew up. This caused the Earth’s magnetic field to reverse suddenly and without warning.
Incidentally, the reader may be interested to know that this has happened several times before in the Earth’s history.
The compass the graduating class was standing on was thrown violently up against a wall, and everyone, except Percy, who jumped clear, was instantly squashed flatter than Kansas (which, it may interest the reader to know, has been scientifically proven to be flatter than a pancake. Slightly…).
Percy was, as the author mentioned before, the only one to survive. Later that day, however, he was suffocated when a large and very confused flock of birds let loose a huge pile of droppings directly on top of him, simultaneously.
Mind you, the rest is worse.
…I’m very fond of the word “thus”.
119- YesYesYes! Brilliant! Carry on writing!
(119) Am I evil in your story, too? Just curious.
123- Are you double spaced, though. I havn’t double spaced mine yet, but when I do it’ll double.
15,352.
Have 4 pages written I need to type now. Bye all.
130- No, I’m not double spaced. Should I be?
129 (Robert) – No, you’re practically worshipped! People love you in my story
It’s about Muse Academy, you know.
My story is 22,395 words and 40 pages. I think my margins are 1 inch, but I’m not sure. It’s Times New Roman, 12 pt. font
123- What font and size font are you using? And I have looootsss of page breaks. e.g.:
blaflsfhasfjdhs;afhs;ldfh;sldh;aslfh;asfldh;saldfkj;aslfj;asd

Like that, so there’s lots of spaces.
(132) Being worshipped and being evil aren’t mutually exclusive, of course.
%$*&@. I only have 20345 words and I’ve been working non-stop. I need 22000 today.
I need to write more.
135- basically the same for me, only I was gone all weekend – Dare to Share thing in Denver. ^_^
I’m on a roll! 17,252 and counting! chusssss.
plus I updated my plot sheet. I NEED ORDER, and the old sheet was not working out. plus it wasn’t detailed enough.
(134) I should hope not!
I could be like the evil dictator in the “Left Behind” books.
20,998.
140- If you’re writing, then you should change your name! It says you’re taking a break.
(141) Presumably, if he’s here, he’s taking a break, even if a short one.
Here’s something that really should go on Tips and Tricks, but since I plan to do it, I’ll put it here.
On the last day, in addition to the long chapter headings, I will put together a CAST OF CHARACTERS thing at the end, with detailed descriptions of every single major and minor character.
can we please have a theard for excerpts? please?
144- I second that! I want to read what other people are writing!
(144) You can post an excerpt here.
143- I am already working on doing that mid story. I am planing on not intorducing anyone except what I call “extras” since, in the movie, they would be played by extras.
146- True. Most excerpts aren’t too long and won’t affect the loading time.
I’ll probably send in my NaNo when it’s done.
O.K! prologue:
Heather was only forty-nine, but her puppy dog eyes had contacts, and her hair was gray. She might had used dye, but you could see right thought the rosy-red hair: it was dyed and her hair was gray. She looked at her $100,000,000 dollar watch, the worst money she ever spent. It had only 1000 functions and had trouble telling what moon it was. As the full golden moon rose in the blackened sky and the dog star was taken over in to the black abyss of space,Heather howled, her contacts popping out of her eyes, showing her bloodshot eyes. Her gray hair when all over her body. She growled into the red house with the green shutters. She crawled thru the living room with blue walls up the stairs with purple carpeting, up to the bedroom with the orange crib. She crept to it and then with a blast of energy she viciously bite the child in the crib. His parent came running in and beat the wolf to death. But it was to late. Heather had turned back into a human. She was dead. But the child, edger smit, was already infected. In the crib were he used to be was now a small wolf cub.
so? how do you like it?
This is an excerpt from the Prologue of my story. It’s about 500 words. Yes, I know, there are tense-switching issues and many other things, but whatever…
If you peered into the window of that mysterious old building in the mists of Iceland, you would be quite confused indeed. The walls, lined with worn bookcases and glass chandeliers, looked very elegant, though carried an aura of happiness and childhood. The ceiling was painted an off-white color. Eggshell, some might say. The walls were splattered with different colors, a rainbow of creativity. Dozens of woven throw-rugs were scattered around the floor, carpeting the cold marble. Nine strangely-shaped creatures sat on the rugs, discussing something. If you had the chance to peer into this window (though you wouldn’t, because the building is secret and it would be quite impossible for you to do so), you would hear quiet muttering and discussion.
These creatures were sitting in a small room in Muse Academy, in the Muse Tower. There were five towers total in Muse Academy: one in each corner, for the houses (Robert Coontz, Rosanne Spector, Rebecca Lasley, and Paul Baker), and one large one in the center where the Muses lived. These creatures, the Muses, were sitting in the very tippy top of the tower, in the highest room in the school. The view was most magnificent from there. To the north, were grand waterfalls. Gallons and gallons of water barreled down the cliffs each second, and stray water droplets created a beautiful mist around the area. To the East were rolling green fields. The sun was just beginning to rise, and the healthy, bright green grass was tinted yellow in the morning light. A small village sat to the West. The wooden houses perched under hills and trees, and the Muses thought it was one of the most joyful villages in the world. They were the only people in the world (other than the children who attended) who knew about Muse Academy, and they were very supportive of the Muses and their magical school. The warm season was coming to a close and the farmers were gathering the last of the summer crops. The fishermen were beginning to bring their boats back to the harbor, finishing up the boating season for the year. When the ocean froze over, they would begin ice-fishing. The village lived happily together, secluded from the outside world. While other places developed computers and advanced technology, this village (known as the Samhjálp village) stayed old-fashioned, content with their ways of living. The Icelandic sheep thrived in Samhjálp at this time of year, and the little children were bubbling with excitement for the new school year. Many of them would attend Muse Academy, because of their strong and open personalities and spirits.
To the south, lay the mists of the legendary huldufólk, the hidden folk: elves and ghosts that live in the rock formations. Whether there were really mystical spirits there, nobody was positive, but nobody expressed disbelief. Their dwellings have been a mystery for centuries. There is always a blue-green mist surrounding the area, and gray shadows turn and toil behind the wall of fog.
my (rather short) prologue
In a dark and dreary castle, out in the middle of nowhere of the middle of nowhere, in the middle of the night, she awoke. She lit a candle and went to the huge window, gazing bleakly out at the nothing of nowhere. It was the most decidedly boring landscape one could ever behold, but it was her home, and she loved it. All around her were wild mountains stretching off into the distance, a dark, forbidding forest out on the left of the castle. She was comfortable with the bare rocks around her.
In the middle of everything, in a bright, bustling city, in the middle of the night, which is just the start of the day for most people around there, another girl awoke. She flipped on the light and stared out the window at the lights around her, the cars and traffic and noise.
How these two could every have anything in common is a mystery. It’s a good thing that gods tend to favor being mysterious. Up in his celestial home, which was not so much a castle as a stretch of space completely incomprehensible to the human eye which occasionally manifested itself as a fluffy white cloud castle for the benefit of the few human observers who could see past their dull, dreary, ordinary lives, one of these mysterious, enigmatic gods chuckled quietly to himself. He was about to have some fun.
149- Note about critique following: I ONLY make suggestions that will bump up your word count. I’m not a sadist.
You could put a little more detail into the transformation, talk more about Heather’s feelings, elaborate a little more. This is how I would do it:
As the full, golden moon edged over the horizon, Heather felt a pang of dread. Please, she thought desperately, please don’t let me hurt anyone this time-
That thought was the last she was to have as a rational human being.
With a howl that shattered an expensive chandelier six blocks away… etc.
I’ll do PP’s later.
Ha! I finally got my characters off Ven’ziag. Finally being the operative word there.
150- Nicely worded and quite beautiful. Perhaps you could talk a bit more about the Muses and what they are. Since your target audience is Musers, you wouldn’t have to do too much… perhaps just a little background.
I’ll post my prologue in a little bit.
151- Nice. I like the little touch of humor and foreshadowing at the end.
My prologue:
The ocean’s violet waves slosh along the red sands of the beach, reflecting the green flicker of nightling in the sky. Its surreal glow illuminates the huge and improbable stone building constructed on, and partially out of, a spire of rock that towers out of the surf.
A big, rangy skartige lopes along the beach, its reptilian paws leaving fuzzy tracks in the sand that are quickly destroyed by the unpredictable tide. The old man on its back sits erect and confident. He betrays no trace of unease at the explosions rumbling over the horizon, and pays no attention to the synchronized tramp of Purple Men’s boots and the spoiled-fruit scent of Puuks’ exhalations detected by his sensitive ears and nose.
The skartige mewls uneasily, and the man rubs his hand along its feline cheek to calm it. “Wait here for me, Amadeus,” he whispers, and continues on foot up the stairs that lead to the building’s door.
The man passes through the entrance arch and strides down familiar tunnels, heading for the main hall.
When he reaches it, he is reassured by the sight of the others waiting for him. Comprised of two women and a man, the entire trio looks impatient and harried. “Why did you call us here, Merlinus?” says the other man, his dark eyes snapping with frustration. “We have no time to waste. The war continues unabated, and our victories are few and far between.”
“I?” Merlinus replies, a faint expression of surprise on his lined features. “I was under the impression that one of you had done so.”
Wordlessly, they shake their heads, one after the other.
A woman speaks up. “Then who… ?”
Merlinus is about to reply when all hell breaks loose. The solid stone wall smashes in like an origami sculpture. A tangerine fog pours in, resolving itself into the misty shapes of hundreds upon hundreds of Orange Men. A soft explosion, a bloom of black smoke, and fifty Puuks drop from the ceiling. The four are surrounded, momentarily frozen in their shock. Merlinus begins muttering under his breath.
A gap opens in the ranks of the Orange Men, and a cloaked and hooded figure strides into the room. All that is visible of him is one rough, callused hand, crackling with a nest of red and purple sparks.
Before the four in counsel can react, the intruder flings back his hood. Beneath it, his face is handsome and weather-browned, with a neat beard and salt-and-pepper hair. But his eyes gleam with the unmistakable light of madness.
Merlinus exclaims. “Gorlois!”
The figure exhales gently, and a whirling tornado surrounds all four. He reaches into his cloak and brings out a small, enameled jewelery box. Inside is a surface of soft velvet, with four small, scalloped indentations.
The figure gestures, and four brilliantly glowing orbs of light hurtle out of the tornado and into the places waiting in the jewelery box. He closes and latches the lid, then claps his worn hands. The box dissolves into a pall of red smoke. He crouches down and inhales sharply. The smoke flows into his mouth and nostrils. Then he gets up, turns on his heel, and vanishes from the room, the Orange Men dissolving into an orange mist and following him.
The tornado drops, and four lifeless bodies fall to the ground.
Outside, Amadeus raises his shaggy muzzle to the heavens and unleashes a full-throated roar of rage and sorrow. A comet streaks across the eternally twilight sky. Then all is still.
154 (Prarilius Canix) – Yep, that comes later on in the prologue. The whole thing is about 2,000 words long, so I didn’t post the whole thing. I’ll send the whole thing when I’m finished, though!
Ebeth – I like it–it really draws you in
only problem with it, is the two characters that it’s supposed to be describing are actually nothing like that at all. but hey, that’s nano. i’ll probably end up editing this one, because i kind of like it…even if it is crazy plot twists every other page because plot twists require lots of explanation (and words!)
should get 25000 tonight.
I wrote a thousand words in less than 1/2 hour. Schveet.

^ = venting
No, I’m not going to do a “venting” chapter. I’m a purist. What can I say?
(159) Fun, isn’t it? I’ve had very little free time this week, so most every day I’ve had to rally my focusing resources and knock out a 2000-word hour. The writing is dreadul, of course, but in terms of characters, substance, and plot leads, those forays into altered consciousness burrowed into some territory I probably wouldn’t have reached otherwise.
My wordcount is quite depressing: about 23K. If I want to make 25K quota today I have to do some serious writing, which I may or may not find the mental capacity to do. Right now, I’m incredibly sick and most likely not going to school tomorrow. (Almost half of my school is out with some sort of bad cold which I seem to have caught). So tomorrow, I can attempt to catch up on my wordcount. And there’s always the weekend.
162- That’s depressing?? I only have 22K! *grim resolve flares in heart*
I am so far behind. I hadn’t written for a while, due to a ban on the computor and feeling sick. Ugh.
Word Count: 12,000. I know, horrid.
I found a few people on NaNo.
Do you have to start in November?
Wordcount: 42. l’m gonna wait till next year, because of my poor momentum.
163 (Prarilius Canix) – It’s not *that* depressing, I was just really looking forward to hitting 25K on Royal Flush.
i dont think my writing is very good, but u tell me
There once was a gorgeous forest full of oak, cedar, ash, pine, and many other varieties of trees. Like any other forest, leaves were shed in the fall, snow fell in the winter, leaves budded in the spring, and in the summer everything was green. But there was also something different about this forest. Under the fallen leaves, the pure snow, the flower petals, and the healthy moss, subsided a great evil. None of the inhabitants knew of this malevolence, and lived life as it should be lived. No one knew of the darkness that was growing under the lovely forest.
this is just the intro and its connected 2 the next part i sstarted writing, but it wont make sense to anyone if i enter in more then this.
With 25k today, you’d be exactly on schedule.
Chapter 1
Faiodi slipped out of his stiff bed, and meandered toward his shabby dresser, grumbling incoherently. He tiredly stuck his slim, boney limbs into his plain clothes, and wandered down the earthy steps. Faiodi’s mother offered him some pancakes at the bottom of the spiraling incline. He merely waved her away, and headed for the door. Every day was the same for Faiodi. Whether he was walking to school and hiding from shadow guards, or attending a mandatory town meeting, nothing changed in the slightest. When Faiodi turned to say his petulant goodbyes, he saw that his mother was frowning. “Why are you so unhappy Fai?†his mother asked suspiciously. “I mean. It is Sunday,†she added casually. Faiodi seemed to perk up. It the one day when all guards were off duty, and he had been to caught up in thinking about how terrible his life was to realized that it was today. He immediately raced out the door to meet his friends in the Forbidden Field.
Faiodi raced down the clay steps in front of the pod like structure that was his home, nimbly sliding and hopping down the substance that made up the entire city that he knew so well. Creeping down Main Street, he slipped into a side alley to retrieve the dirt coated soccer ball that Faiodi and his friends would occupy themselves with. In the back of the alley he noticed an unusually menacing shadow in the back of the alley. Cursing under his breath, he backed out of the narrow side street. He then dashed up Main Street, stumbling as he went. He had to warn everyone that the shadow guards were on duty.
When Faiodi reached the fringed of the woods that surrounded the field, a feeling of security overcame him. The one and only thing he knew about shadow guards was that anything they didn’t make killed them. The woods and the Forbidden Field were the only things that were left of the pure world. If a plant were to somehow sprout in a crack in the hard clay the shadows had mixed so fondly, it would be immediately terminated.
see the connection slightly now?
the chapter isn’t done
i said back of the ally twice
(typo)
what is all this about 25k
thats alot of words…
im so pethetic that i only have 487
172- Actually, you’re supposed to write 50,000 words in November. November’s halfway done today, so you should have 25K today. Some (most) of us don’t. BUT I AIM TO CHANGE THAT!
*grim resolve and terrible purpose*
i will probably keep on entering the paper at random intervalls becuse im typing it rite now
accually i wont enter my story any more… got board
im still writing it tho
it seems as if iv made progress, but really I just typed it double spaced and font size 12
I did a venting chapter at school. Now I feel better.:D
63- I have 18k!!!
Over 23. And I have no other engagements tomorrow, so I’ll be able to catch up. Also, I’ve gotten to a non-WB point.
What’s a venting chapter–I’m not familiar with this term?
I think I’ve hit a block again. So I just skipped ahead and wrote a random scene–I have no idea where I’ll put it, but at least I wrote *something*
I finally figured out how to update my NaNo profile.
Me= waaaayyy behind. I should be writing. I can’t write. I can’t. I can’t. I can’t. *says this a lot* Mom, stop STARING!
Sorry.
I tried a venting chapter. It didn’t work. Although the deaths were quite gruesome. Imagine The Rack and burning at the stake put together.
Friends= like my story or think it’s random.
LA Teacher= wants to read story really badly.
A venting chapter is where you kill off all the characters who have been annoying you in interesting and wordy ways. Usually not connected to the plot. Shunned by purists (me).
25,009
20008
You kill everyone? I’ll shun it too.
1830
I’ve got 25003! YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! I’m sitting here eating m&m’s from my reward pack. Of course, I’m behind for today, but it’s only five. I’ll catch up by eight.
25,108 words!
Yes, I’m behind for today as well, but I hit 25K! I’m halfway done!
::runs off to write more::
*sigh* so i yesterday was a torch day (we have a funny torch week because of thanksgiving) so i sent my nano to myself at school and started working on it. i got caught up from the day before and wrote 1500 words for that day, but then i had to go usher, so i was still 500 words behind. Then today, i forgot to email it back to myself, AND i had to ask flores a q and it turned out to be really complicated so it took like twenty minutes so i had to walk home (i was supposed to get a ride today) now i don’t have my nano to work on (i’m weird, i can’t just write something out of place and then just shove it in. i can go back to things later, but i can’t write ahead. mostly because i don’t know what’ll happen i guess). By the time i get out of theater, dad’ll be home and i won’t have any excuse to stay up (it’s a friday, so hw won’t work). Then saturday i’ll be able to write, but sunday is mostly out because lb has a concert i have to go to, and then we’re seeing SPAMALOT YAY! But that means that i basically have to write 8500 words in a day and a half. Why does this sound so familiar?
I’m almost at 24K.
24701 exactly, 299 words to go before halfway done.
Me=Very mad.
Me=Just lost 2,000 words because of an unsaved document.
Me=Very mad.
Me=Having to type it all over again.
I just went and wrote 200 words back. I added myself into the story as a bad guy who’s about to be killed by two eight year old twins.
25009, Me=happy.
Congratulations, Prarilius Canix!
::pies::
191-i save like every two seconds, because most of the various comps i use are pretty unreliable.
i also email it to myself every time i finish for the day so i can work on it at school or home, depending. except for thursday, like i said in my lovely story above ^^
191-
Me= having just lost 1000 words because of an unsaved document
Me= Mad
Me= having to type it all again, plus todays work.
Me=Got 300 words back yesterday
I’m an obsessive document-saver, and save at least every minute, but usually every few seconds. I also put my NaNoWriMo on a jumpdrive every few days, and email it to myself every 2,000 words.
Ha! I just got to the first kiss!
I’m so awesome.
198- Would that I could obsess as you do. I nearly lost half my document, but didn’t, fortunately. I immediately saved it to Gmail and to disk.
I’ll be gone for a few days, but I’m bringing the laptop (we just won’t have any internet connection) and will hopefully return with a brand spankin’ new word count.
The Aw stands for awful because I’m stressed out and I’m doing awful. I have no clue what my wordcount is but it’s nowhere near 25K. I haven’t had much time due to school and other issues. I have to write 2 reports of at least 2 pages each, make a Latin Thanksgiving poster, create a 2 minute mime to music, do a load of geometry, and read a book by Moday or Tuesday.
Ok time to stop being all whiney. Congrats to everyone who’s making their wordcount! I can’t wait to see what some people come up with.
25056!
Well, good noos. I made 13K. *cheering and bands and confetti*
Yes, my good citizans, I am the best NaNoer this town has ever seen. And the only. But we don’t talk about that. *proud*
20152!
197- Me= got all 1000 words rewritten yesterday.
I’m really pleased with myself. Yesterday I rewrote the thousand words I lost, wrote that days wordcount, and todays as well! That’s like 4000 words. So, I’m a day ahead, and by tonight I should be two days ahead. I’m going to have a very short time on some of the coming days, so that’s why I’m trying to get ahead.
Wordcount = 32322
There. I’m just uploading it onto the family computer…
I save mine onto a floppy every two thousand words or so – then I’ll never lose so much i can’t make it up.
My laptop is a dinasour. It can’t write CDs, connect to the internet, and it doesn’t even have a USB port! I have to keep it connected to the cable all the time because the batteries don’t work, and about fifty other things. Oh well, mustn’t grumble. At least I have a laptop, and it has Word so I can write. Small blessings.
Then of course, if i didn’t have a laptop, I probably couldn’t do NaNo, because I’m not allowed much time on the main computer.
…There. Uploaded. The NaNo counters give me eight extra words – 31408. I’ll paste a section here.
They thought Sialena was a Nomad as well as I. I could understand the mistake. She had the Nomadic facial structure. Her chin, and nose, were defiantly Nomadic. And she was wandering around, with a Nomad, outside a Nomad camp. What else could she be? They didn’t bother to ask, obviously.
I knew, or at least thought I knew, who these people were. They were Returners. Returners were out of work men, usually in America, who one of the action groups against us paid to capture Nomads, and put them back “where they belongâ€. And they had picked up Sialena and me. Probably they were scouting out the Tyeiran camp, preparing for a raid. I wondered how long it would be before we saw the rest of them, probably in chains. Not long, I guessed.
That was just a random selection.
Hi everyone…
I haven’t been on MuseBlog recently because of nano- when I’m writing, I’m not blogging, and when I’m procrastinating, MuseBlog makes me feel guilty about it, so I go other places.
I have thirty thousand and three (30003 is such a cool looking number) words and a new title, and thus I am happy.
Today I wrote about 3500 words. Including a two page conversation between my main character and her main character, which happens to be me, only different.
My story started Sunday night, now it’s the next Saturday, midmorning.
207- Heh, same reason I’ve barely been here. Pwnsome job being on track!!!
27,929 and counting. That’s a few hundred more than I had last year at this time. I’m thrilled. Only a little over 2k behind. So I’m happy. Freakishly so. A 5+k day makes me really happy all the time.
My story is set up like a mythology. It’s fun. ^___^
You who have >30k are making me really jealous but I can’t be bothered to be so because I’m still thrilled.
I’m still way off base, but I wrote about one thousand six hundred today, which is good. Considering I wrote that one thousand six hundred in a very short period of time. It was all digressing, but still.
I’m catching up from where I skipped. Good.
Although I’m still way behind. Word Count: 14,611. Bad.
I’m REALLY behind. I keep getting these great ideas about how to tell the same story in a way more interesting and enjoyable way, because currently it’s just description after description after description, which makes it really boring and bad. But I can’t start over now, unless I want to write 31K today. And I don’t. So I guess I’ll just finish it the bad way, then completely re-write it next month, then edit it during NaNoEdMo.
::sigh::
25474 words.
(210) Just pick up with writing the new way and pretend you’ve already edited the first 25,000 words to match.
34000 and such. I’m a couple days ahead, but I haven’t even done my writing for today yet, so I’ll get onto that soon.
Bye!
211 (Rebecca) – I tried to do that, but it kind of changes so much that I’m not really sure I could just start up from here. I’m skipping the parts I don’t want to write and going to the parts I do want to write. It’s actually helping, and it’s way more fun to write.
I’m sick (again) and therefore not at school today, but I haven’t written much so far. About 1.5K so far.
Ima try to get a whole bunch today. Dare I try for four thousand? I dare not.
I dare.
I dare not.
I dare.
I dare not…
21.5k…
I really ssuuuuucccckkkk.
forgot to email it again…stopped writing at 1 in the morning after spamalot and forgot today was a torch day until 7 after i woke up and by then it was too late >.
SO FAR BEHIND OHYES. FInally made it to 20,000 typed today, currently at 20819 but I have about 2 and a hlaf thousand more written. Forgott the journel I’m writing it in at home today of all days, when we did basically _nothing._ SO that sucked, but now we have break so maybe MAYBE I can get caught up. Maybe. ((((((((((yeah right goes the voice in my head))))))))))
Oh, but I am going to introduce a character who will speak in binary. And I’ll spell it out. At eight numbers per letter, it should get me up a bit.
He’s just going to be someones little brother though, so I’m not completely cheating at all of it. Mybe I should introduce a character who speaks a different language, and everthing they say has to be translated.
Person1: Ahhblahblahblah
Person2: Wot’d he say??
Person3: He said ‘I’m hungry.’
Person1: Ahblahahgaobeldegook.
Person2: Wot???
Why y’all complainin? Yo, I’m at 16,025. And countin, but still yo. Dats way behinder den y’all are.
Don’t feel bad folks! Look at me, 2,256! Sad…I will work on it today, I will! But every day I don’t work, I calculate up how many words I will have to write every day for the rest of the month, and it’s probably close to 5,000 a day now, and then it isn’t appealing to start!
Red-tailed HAWK the SLOOOOOOWWW

35977. but alot is word repeatting.
22.2k! Plus my story is speeeeeding right along. And I read some of my older stories to inspire me to make this story better than those, which had horrible punctuation and no continuity.
I lost the bad punctuation, but I still have no continuity.
THANKSGIVING BREAAKKK. CHUSS. 3k a day, here I come!
Plus I’m referencing “To Serve Man”, which pwnzzzz.
aaaaaagh word crashed
But thank god for AutoSave.
And the thing about Word crashing is that when you rewrite the two or so paragraphs you lost they end up being better and more words. lol.
17,000! Yaya! Only about 11,000 behind! (Awww)…
And you would think that TXGVG break is “CHUSSS” but I’ll be in a hotel and have no computor.
SO NOT CHUSSS.
I’m driving to Philidelphia on Friday and returning on Sunday, so I’m counting on those 8 or so hours to get a huge wordcount. I will be in the car and won’t have internet or other things to distract me. Yay work time!
I am a hundred or two words ahead (31829 now). In the past weekend or so, including now, I’ve written 8642 words about the morning of Dome, which is basically waiting in the school cafeteria with some luggage, and then a long bus ride. We just got through lunch at a rest stop, it’s probably around 11am or noon and there are two more hours of bus ride left, and we haven’t even gotten to Syracuse yet. Better yet, I called the chapter, where we’ve done nothing yet, It’s Kickin’ In (well, stuff is about to happen, eventually…by then I’ll have written so much I have to chapter break). I amaze myself sometimes with the ability to write about trivialities for pages.
by the way, GAPAs, my book title=A Self Called Nowhere, and I think I like this one so it’ll stay for awhile, so if you’re not too swamped by your own wordcounts to change the post at the top of the thread…’twould be appreciated
244- we never go anywhere for tnxgvg break. It’s like a tradition. It’s spring and winter break when we do the big trips. Or, as in the case of this winter break, everyone comes here.
*totally off topic*
23k. *headdesk* gotta write.
I’m home sick again. So far today I’ve written three words (on my NaNo), gone to the doctor and diagnosed with a minor ear infection and viral cold of some sort, gotten a flu vaccine, come home, and now I’m here, MuseBlogging instead of writing. Oh well. I have about 26,615 words. Must Write!!
::skips off::
26K. Am writing. Blinking stinking vacation trip sans computer. Shall not post for much time. Am grammatically incorrect. Am MAD. Am going insane probably.
Am for some strange reason having much fun. Am also neglecting commas much.
Oh dear sweet awesomeness that is single-minded determination! I have reached 33352! Which means that I am now on schedule! Thank Ford! *makes sign of the T*
WAAAH!!!
(230) Well, it’s clear that you’re an Alpha.
27K now. 1K in less than half an hour. MUST CATCH UP!
I have 27,429 words. I’m depressing myself. I *can* write this, I just have to buckle down and write. And that’s not happening because I have buckets of make-up work to do, and I’m dying of congestion and such.
::self pity::
I’m *really* counting on those hours in the car to get word-count. If I can’t catch up then, I’m not going to make it.
36,128.
So, I kind of took a ten day long break. Not on purpose, I just couldn’t get around to writing for a week and a half. But now I went from about twice as many words as quota to over 3k behind. I have to say, being behind is a lot more fun than being ahead. I think all of those people who do NaNo in like two days aren’t really getting the full benefit. You’re not NaNoing until you’re freaking out about being behind.
236- I’m not freaking yet. I have all of tomorrow to write, and I plan to get AT LEAST 3000 words. That way, I can… *consults calendar*
*panics*
And I never USUALLY go anywere. It’s just this time they pick to go. Why do they do this to me?
232- Heehee, gotta love the grey. I’d say all the Alpha Pluses hang out here ^_^
235- Wow.
Writing and making literary references make me gleeful.
235- A lot of it is repeat. in december, I’ll edit.
My purist status is sort of hard to keep up.
36158.
(237) We’re sailing on the same ship (so to speak), PC. I was nearly two days ahead before I left town for the weekend. My trip was beyond words…unfortunately, words are precisely what NaNo requires, so here I am, with the sails still in irons.
But I have confidence we’ll both catch the wind soon and make up for lost time. I fell at least this far behind during my first NaNo, yet finished early.
37000. I’m ahead, but I might be behind soon. I just put Paul into my story, because one of the main characters is in a coma, and I put him in as a painting on a wall that she’s talking to.
I’m going to be caught up by the end of the day.
mm.
24k.
*writes*
246- I pity thee.
My Word Count is at a Small yet Satisfactorie Number, to wit, One Score and Nine Thousands, Five Hundreds and Sixteen. I hope that I shall increase it greatlie within the next few Hours, because on the morrow I shall be departing for the house of my Grandparents for to celebrate the Feaste of Giving Thanks. Furthermore, there I shall not have easie access to Quille and Parchmente, much less a working Computer; nor have the Time to put either to Use, did I have them.
Just wondering, how many words are we supposed to have by the end of the day? *waits for answer and dreads having to write lots of words*
I’m at 18,548 words. I’m so horrible, I know!
I don’t know what the official NaNo site says, but this is the 21st day of a 30-day month. So (21/30)*50,000 = 35,000 words.
Well, I’m not at the quota for today, but I’m writing far more words per day than the necessary 1667. So I’ll catch up.
Hmm. My last free day is the 25th. (25/30)*50,000= approx. 41,667 words. So I’ll need that many by Sunday. I’m writing about 4000 per free day. I have the 23-25th to get to 41, 667. Today, I’ll have over 30,000. Four (thousand) times 3 days= 12. 12,000 plus 30,000 equals 42,000- over quota. *deep breath* I CAN DO THIS!!! *dorky happy dance*
the nano site recommends 1667 words a day, so i think it’s a little over 35k. i like doing it that way because it puts you 30 words ahead if you stay on schedule. which i don’t anyway, so it doesn’t really matter *sigh*
27k, hoping to do another 1-2k tonight depending on how annoying parentals will be
Have it your way: 35,007 words.
I’m almost at 31K. Squee! *DHD*
25.1k!!!!!!!
AYAYAAY. I might write more today.
I’m at 30.9 k. I’m going to try to break 32 today.
31K. On second thought, I don’t know if I’m going to get much farther.
Yay, 27,429 words! In other words, I haven’t written a single word today. I just got home from school/tennis about an hour ago, ate dinner, and now I’m here. And I’m really not in a writing mood, but seeing as I’m approximately 8K behind, I NEED to write!!!
::trudges away::
I wrote 3500 words today. I AM THE PWN!
I’ve finished Part One. On to Part Two!
Now I have 28,191 words. That was about 800 words in 30 minutes. Not bad!
::writes more::
I am losing hope…
34,297
I definitely want to reach quota today, since it will be hard to write while hanging out with my extended family. I’m just going to try to have 40k by the end of the Thanksgiving holidays. I think I can write 10k in the three free days I’ll have after that.
*realizes that maybe, just maybe, she can actually do this*
NaNo is the coolest thing ever. By which I mean heartbreakingly wonderful.
252-well, i do occasionally like to be realistic-ish, and that’s another 7 words i’m behind.
28496 by the way. i want to get to at least 29k today, if not 30k.
also, my story is completely different now. it’s turned into some kind of war against all magical and mythical creatures. i haven’t figured out who’s waging the war yet, they’re just off to see one of my newest characters who will explain it to them. Anyway, the old plot is kind of dead.
I lost hope of making 50,000 a while ago and I’m now writing for the fun of it. If I’m lucky, I’ll get 30,000 words.
262- Interesting. I want to read it.
I’ll send my NaNo in to the GAPAs as long as everybody understands that compared to most of my writing, it’s a piece of crud.
I still have hope, thanks to today’s word count.
Mine’s a peice of crud too, and really strange and probably dosn’t count as a NaNo but I’ll send mine in too.
TWENTY THOUSAND WORDS BABY!
Uh huh, boo ya.
38020, and I still odn’t have a title
::insane jealousy for everyone::
28,550 words.
Why can’t I write this?
::dies::
AHH!! Twelve fourteen A.M on the 22 And I LOST 7,000 words in thirty minutes. STUPID COMPUTER! PROGRAM!!! I am not going to make it, I am iin tears, I am undone…..
25.3k…. I think I’ll write like 3k today.
I’m doing really well. 37000 words, which is ahead. I think I might be able to make it. At the beginning, i didn’t even have a hope of making 20000 words.
I’m pretty sure I’ll be able to make it.
I won’t have access to WordPad at my grandparents’, but I might be able to use their computer, which has internet, and therefore Gmail. And I gmailed my NaNo to myself. So I can write on it. If I have time. Which I probably won’t.
Oh wow. I’m somewhere between 25,500 and 26,300. I haven’t checked in a couple paragraphs. NaNo is more of a fungus than a project. It absorbs like CRAY-ZAY.
You know something? I think I might make it this year.
(273) If you have a Gmail account, you can create text files in Google docs — that’s what I’ve been doing. Everything is saved online and accessible from anywhere. Since I go back and forth between my computer at work and my laptop, it’s been very handy indeed.
275 (Rebecca) – Wow, that’s really cool! I’ll have to check that out. I’ll probably stick to my jumpdrive, though.
I have 29,313 words. ::sigh::
jeeshers, i don’t know if i’m going to make it this year. 29520, but my parents are on me all the time to get off the computer and my story’s just going really slowly and my characters just keep getting stuck doing nothing. i need to have something exciting happen to get the wc up, but i need to explain some stuff right now first…grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr just grrrr. i hope i get at least 45k…
i have to go meet with my bat mitzvah caterer today, so I’m not sure if I’m going to get anything done. and then after that we’re going to the animal shelter to check out the cats, b/c we’re getting one from there soon.
Me=Behind again. I didn’t write at all yesterday due to crazy turkey day preperations and grampa getting a gall bladder disorder. (What?)
STUPID. The shelter’s not open! We’re going on Sunday. But now I get to write!
I was originally supposed to go to Philidelphia today (and get 4 hours of writing in the car), but we stayed home because my mom has to get a CT scan and stuff. So, I only have 31080 words. ::sigh::
so how many words does it have to be?
50,000.
My word count: 21,741.
I’ve been working off and on ever since I hit my quota today (22,000). I’ve gotten 321 words since then! Really, I’m at a dead end. I’m forced to insert scary phone calls and conversations about refrigerators.
Help!
Sorry for the triple post, but
INSPIRATION!!!
I’m naming my novel “Magic: Handle With Care”. So y’all can add that to the list!

33,007. I’m going to have to write 4000 words each of the next 2 days… but I can do that.
38000 or so. I’m not hoping to write much today.
32K. I’m hoping to have some sort of makeshift Write-In today with THF (who has only written about 200 words for her NaNo), and my dad (who will be reading, not writing), because that’s the only time when I can really get a ton of work done. And I want at least 35K by the end of today.
33,429. And I just got up.
I want 37K by the end of the day.
34030. i’m aiming for 37k today too, because then it’s only 2k a day from there (and i know i can get at least 3k in tomorrow, so i’ll be kind of ahead for once)
my story’s so different now but whatever…
also, one of my characters is going to DIE this year dun dun duuuunnn…if i ever get around to it, that is.
I have a little over 3K. Pathetic, I know. But I don’t really care. I’m writing, that’s what counts. Even if I’m only writing a little bit a day and I can’t stay focused on one story and I don’t have more than a vague plotline and I want to rewrite the entire story but don’t know how to do it the way I want and so I’m not terribly happy with it right now, I’m writing. So everything’s alright.
But I really, REALLY want to finish a book.
I’ve written almost 3,000 today, which makes me really happy!
I have 34K so far…I’m hoping for another 1K today. But I’ll do that later. I just had a makeshift write-in with my family and got 2K written in 1 hour, which was awesome! I was the only person who was writing. My parents were reading, and my brother and sister were doing a puzzle. It worked, though!
I’ve written about 1K today and I’d like to write 3. Tha’d be nice.
Word Count: 23476.
42,426, yay. Except that was all written Thursday and Wednesday, and I haven’t written anything since due to an english paper that I still haven’t finished. Bad me.
Any suggestions for a title? It’s a fantasy story about a quest for the Mushroom of Reality (my nanowrimo, that is, not the English essay). About six or so main characters, fictional location in fictional world, and whenever I type things whether on here or IM I automatically go control-save because I’m too used to Nanoing and being paranoid about losing what I’ve written.
Oh, yay!
Word Count: 24, 171
294- how about “non-poisonous reality” ?
35,080. I’m taking a break. This is tough.
SCHOOL RETURNS ON THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW *dies*
ugh, i’m stopping at 35096 for the night *total fail* i have to do an even 3k a day now! *is scared* but i seriously can’t do any more tonight. mebbe if i get up in the middle of the night again i will…i emailed it to myself so i could use the upstairs comp w/o waking up parentals (i woke up at 4 this morning thinking “oh bleep, chem lab report!!!” and of course i haven’t done ANYTHING on it today. and i’ve barely started that essay…i’m only like a page in, and it’s supposed to be three pages and have five citations)
ugh, why do i FAIL AT LIFE so much
somebody needs to slap me in the face and be like “WRITE”
I have to write aproximately 4235 words a day if I’m gonna make it.
35,040 words! ::dorky happy dance::
Yes, I’m extremely happy! My hope is restored, and everything is good an happiness has entered the room and happy happy happy.
I wrote 4K today, and I think I can write 5K tomorrow to get to 40K, then I will only be a little bit behind! I also don’t have school on Monday (first day of Deer Hunting season–we don’t have school!), so I’ll aim for 3-4K that day, too.
I can do this! ::dhd::
300 – you don’t have school for deer hunting season? Lucky. I live in the middle of redneck country and we still have school!
of course, we haven’t had a day off since it started besides thanksgiving and one other.. stupid school board..
296 – hmm, that’s pretty good, maybe I’ll use that.
except it doesn’t really help with the word count that much. Long chapter titles are wonderful things.
25,716! Halfway point, baby!
Even if it’s way off quota.
*sinks into mud*
I’ve reduced the number of words a day to 4,047. Yay me. I’ve written quite a lot today.
Whoops, I wrote more and forgot to press submit. I’m now at 26,024. Yay!
300- where do you live?
301, 303 – It’s really weird, because I go to school in Downtown Pittsburgh, where you barely even see pigeons, let alone deer! I guess it’s for other kids and schools who live in more rural areas…though most people in my school district live in the city. Maybe for people who have to take buses or walk to the bus stop or something? I don’t know, but I’m not complaining!
30k total fail.
OMG SWEET I HAVE A PWNSOME PLOT TWISTTTT
the two minor characters (mc 1’s best friends) get turned into ZOMBIES!!!! hehe.
but still 30k total fail.
I’m getting a higher quota. It’s fun catching up (even if I’m still twenty thousand words behind)…
28,227. I’m now writing 4,000 a day, because I need to. If I stopped for today, I would have to write 4,344.6 words a day. I wanna get that down to at least just 4,000 (which is harder than it looks).
This dosn’t count as a double post, it was a lot later than my last one.
If I don’t get to thirty thousand tonight I’m gonna pound my head in with a brick. I’m at 29,892. A few words left!
I made it! Only about 11,000 words behind!

I’m about 7,000 words behind. But fortunately, Dark Thirty is a Friday, so I’ll be able to write straight from when I get home from school (approx. 2:30) to either when my parentals force me to go to bed or the NaNo deadline (former, approx. 11:30, latter, exactly 12:00). So I still have hope.
257- Yay tennis.
And I did finally catch up my typing with my writing. Yes I stayed up till midnight twice and have written till one, but that’s part of what this is about. And I’m less behind than I was, if I can get 1,000 wirds written in bed.
DOes anyone else have the same problem as me, being able to easily write a page or two in bed laaate at night? Like, midnight-one? I think I’m going to stay up to three sometime because that’s honestly when I feel most creative, then I have to stop and put the journal down and try to sleep, and lay there for a half hour before I can. Then in the morning all that creaticity is gone and I stare at blank pages all though school.
Maybe I’ll learn to like coffee. Hmm.
But, school now. So if I do it’s going to have to be a day when there’s not a test or summut.
And AHHH 5 DAYS LEFT *cries* *dies*
37,292 words.
I only have to write 4,000 words a day now. Which I did today.
40600. Or somewhere around there. I’m only a thousand behind, so I should catch up.
I have 37K. When I think about the fact that there are only FOUR DAYS LEFT I pretty much die, but then I think about how I have the rest of the day today to write. But I’ll probably still die.
::skips off to write::
How many words are you supposed to have by the end?
50,000 words. Gosh, this is horrible.
I’m giving up Karate class to write my four thousand words. Hopefully, I’ll make it!
Oops. Hit submit too early. Sorry about that y’all.
I have a scheme for next year. I’m gonna pick out a really good book (with aprox 50,000 words) and base the action in my book acording to what happens in that book. When the characters meet, when sub plots come and go, and the grand finish will be in the same place as the other book, but the plot and characters will be completely different.
I just wanna see how it turns out. It could be horrible, but it might work out. Just a little experiment. I can experiment, can’t I? Gosh.
I am changing my goal (I am unofical) to 40,000.
wow. i am facing failure. my computer was not operating correctly. (see comment 125) and my nano is trashed. only 7,000 words. luckily i was not very attached to my writing seeing as i haven’t worked on it for a week and a half. i’m just too busy. an i tried out for winter track! woot woot!
OH MAN PWNAGE! My wd. count is boppin’!
If only I can reach 40,000. Then I’ll have enough morale to make the extra 10,000 push.
Man, why can’t I just get started on my HW? It’s not that hard, and once I’m done, I can work on NaNo guilt free. I think I can put a substantial boost into my word count today. And tomorrow I’ll definitely pass 40,000. Then I can work late on Dark Thirty right up until the deadline.
39175 from yesterday night (I got a sudden burst of creativity from 10:45 onward but I had to stop at 11:30 because of school) and about a handwritten page from lunch today in school. Going off to write now. I think I can make this. Hopefully 41-42K by the end of today.
Like Canix, though, I haven’t started homework yet. Bad. And I don’t know why I even bother to get the trombone and bring t home if I don’t practice ever. Guilt? I still feel guilty.
My HW is now a fraction away from done, and my word count is the same distance from 38,000. Tomorrow I shall definitely have over 40,000.
In a strange, awful way, I’m looking forward to Dark Thirty, probably because I know I have 9 solid hours to work on my NaNo before the deadline.
We need an abbreviation for word count. WC means water closet, or bathroom, so that’s out. How about, in keeping with the theme of first-2-letters acronym, WoCo?
38,708 so far. I’ve written about 3K today, and hope to make at least 40K by tomorrow. Then, I’ll write like crazy on Wednesday and Eleventh Hour, and do my final push on Dark Thirty (probably staying up until midnight).
Let’s see…*thinks*….I get dismissed from school at 3:38 pm, I’ll get home by around 4:30. If I write straight from there, taking a break for dinner, that gives me about 7 hours to catch up then.
But wait…since NaNo time is in California, does it mean that I can wait until 3:00 AM to submit my wordcount?
Even if I could, I wouldn’t, though, because then I wouldn’t be writing my novel in one month, I’d be finishing it in one month and three hours. Which is cheating. So I wouldn’t do it.
(323) NaNo always begins and ends according to local time wherever your are.
Wow, good luck to everybody.
huh. 31.1k. i really suck…
Werd Cownt: 32,680.
I’ll have to really push it to get to 34,000 today. If I keep up this four thousand a day I have the chance of getting at least 48,000 by Dark Thirty. And then, who knows? I’ll write in 1337 for the whole rest of the story.
I’m aiming for 40k by the time i pretend to go to bed today (around 11-ish maybe?) and then i might get in a k or two after that, depending on how i feel about my chem skillz
324 (Rebecca) – Yeah, I figured. It would be cheating anyway, even if you *could* still submit your novel.
I’m going to try to get 39K today, which only involves writing about 300 words. Then, I’ll plan on writing at LEAST 1K tomorrow, then I’ll try for 3K on Wednesday, 3K on Thursday, then 4K on Dark Thirty. I’ll probably end up writing 1K each of those days though, and have to write 8K on Dark Thirty. That’s okay, though.
Little comic relief scene:
At that precise moment, a small, golden cat with a very flat face – Josh thought it was probably an American Shorthair, though it was difficult to be sure in such a strange magical land – trotted lightly into the cave. It paused, cocking its head to one side, than settled down. Its features blurred suddenly, and it grew rapidly upwards until it eventually took the form of a woman of average height, with shoulder-length blonde hair and brown eyes. The woman, like the cat she had previously been, had a very flat face, though she looked cheerful in human form, unlike her cat form in which she had looked very cross. Josh guessed from the fact that Elisanna immediately seemed to shrink that this was “Satine de Waffle, the Great and Terrible.”
The author would now like to say that yes, the “great and terrible” is a Wizard of Oz spoof. The reader is encouraged not to mention it in any fan letters (nudge, nudge, wink, wink).
“I am Satine de Waffle, the Great and Terrible!” cried Satine de Waffle, the Great and Terrible.
“Well, duh,” said the Magic Mirror.
“Shut up!” Satine de Waffle said. “Give me your cat!”
“Why should I?” asked Josh, raising his eyebrows in a gesture he had picked up from Thursday during the trek through Ven’ziag.
“Because…” said Satine de Waffle. “I am the Great and Terrible, remember?”
“‘Great’, huh?” asked Josh, showing off more of his smart-alecky-ness. “‘Great and Terrible’ is the Wizard of Oz’s title. Come up with something original, and I might pay more attention to your crazy demands.”
Satine de Waffle thought for a moment. “Ok… then I am Satine de Waffle, the Enemy of the Wizard of Oz, the Great and Terrible!”
Josh winced inwardly at the sudden un-originallity of villains – at least, supposed villains. “Not good enough.”
“Then I am Satine de Waffle, who is also known as the Great and Terrible, who is also also known as the Enemy of the Wizard of Oz, the Great and Terrible, who is also also also known as simply Satine de Waffle. That good enough?”
It wasn’t, of course, but for the sake of time Josh decided to agree. “Yes, it’s enough. But why do you want my cat?”
“Because…” Satine de Waffle paused for dramatic effect. “Your cat…” She paused again because she was a stickler for dramatic pauses. “Is…”
“Oh, stop with the dramatic pauses,” said Exacerbate crossly.
The sudden event of a previously mute kitty naturally caused quite a bit of confusion.
“You can talk!” cried Josh, in unison with Elisanna, who said, “Wah! It spoke! It spoke!” and felt her forehead to feel for possible fevers of one hundred and two degrees, which she figured was definitely high enough to cause hallucinations. Satine de Waffle looked taken aback, for she had been about to say “The one cat who will be able to command my army of nearly a googol of highly trained mice without to much training, seeing as how he’s telepathic.”
The Mirror let out a sigh and said, to no one in particular, “Oh, well, there’s another one to clutter up my thoughts. What a pity.”
Exacerbate said, with a very superior air, “I’m afraid this may come as a shock to all of you, but I’m tired of conforming to your stereotypical views of my species, Felis silvestris catus, by meowing and mewling and all that rot. I’m merely expressing my inner self. What’s wrong with that?”
“You can talk!” shouted Josh again, looking amazed. Elisanna considered dunking her head in a bucked of water to see if that would lower her fever to a more tolerable level.
Exacerbate sighed. “This is why the Felis silvestris catus convention of 1354 voted unanimously to keep the secret of our ability to speak almost any language perfectly, well, a secret. To much shock for the poor humans.” He shook his head, and sighed again.
“Um…” said Satine de Waffle, who was also known as the Great and Terrible, who was also also known as the Enemy of the Wizard of Oz, the Great and Terrible, who was also also also known as simply Satine de Waffle. “What Felis silvestris catus convention? There wasn’t a convention in 1354!”
“There was, but you weren’t invited. Sorry.” Exacerbate didn’t look sorry at all. “Anyway, I’d be delighted to accept your offer of a position as the general of your nearly a googol of highly trained mice, but I’d rather remain with my friends. And besides, Felis silvestris catus are never cooperative, at least when one needs them to be.”
Yes, I am panicking.
47023!
except I kind of ran out of plot. So these last 5000 words or so are mostly filler.
331- only 2,977 words for you!
TNÖ (330) – Did you meet your goal of 100K?
Lizzie (331) – ::wordcount jealousy:: Are you going to send your novel in (to MB) when you’re finished?
330- I like it!
However, I’ve learned something from this year. Serious fiction doesn’t work well with NaNo. Next time I’ll write a humorous sci-fi.
I’m panicking worse. I’ve used 1337, binary, latin, spanish, and IM lingo. And I plan to use Chaucer. Can anyone reccoment any Chaucer text conversion sites?
I made it, I’m at 34,025. I can get 50,000! It might be hard, but I can do it!
Even if I don’t keep up the four thousand a day scheme, I can easily write 5,000 to make up for it on Dark Thirty. So life is pretty much good.
Oh, and speaking of unorigionalitly, I used J.K. Rowlings spells and enchantments, but changed them around a bit. Example: Reparo=Wiro Riparius, Portus=Portimos, etc.
WoCo: 42032, according to the nano site. I have to write about 2000 words a day to finish on time. I wrote slightly over 2800 words today. I can do this.
i have a time zone dilemma too…i was on the wrong time zone, as i noticed when i went to change my wc and it said it was Nov. 27th, so i went to my profile and changed it to the right time (which is an hour behind that) which is morally fine because i started at 12:01 AM my time, not the time on the nano site, but now my little graph thingy doesn’t show the extra words from today. i’m hoping that’s just an issue with the graph, and not the words not being counted. idk.
43024, or thereabouts.
WoCo: 38155.
I just started writing again because mom was “fiddling” with the stupid computor. Grr.
30k STILL!
the problem with my action/fight scenes is they usually consist of people just standing there and talking and occasionaly flinging a projectile of some kind or another.
goshdammmit.
342- Post one. See if we can help.
*giggles uncontrollably*
My friend just sent an email telling me that listing to “Do It Well” by Jennifer Lopez was a good song to listen to while writing an action scene. Doubting, I downloaded it and listened whilst writing the majorist scene in the whole book.
Dang, it worked! How strangely weird.
344-Awesome@
WoCo: 38,779. If I can just break 40,000 tonight, I’ll have enough morale to struggle through the final 10,000.
If I ever finish and edit Fourhenge, it will be epic. They’re still nowhere near the climax!
Peoples!
I can’t think of anything else to write. My plot has been boring and uneventful since TWS. I need to write aproximately two thousand and five hundred more words tonight.
Help!
Here’s a tip. Introduce a lot of unlikeable minor characters. Make sure each one has a personal grudge against the main character(s) when he or she leaves the scene. That way, if you get stuck, you can just have one of them show up to make trouble for the MCs.
39019!!!
OKAY PEOPLE! I NEED THE NAMES AND DESCRIPTIONS OF THREE STRANGE, MADE-UP CREATURES AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!
Sorry. That was a little abrupt. And arrogant. But input would be appreciated. Please.
I got a NaNoWriMo shirt for my birthday, which has given me a little bit of motivation. I’m still 5K behind, though. My parents also donated to NaNo in my name, so I get a halo on my profile!
350 – I’m quite dreadful at coming up with names. Why don’t you try looking at internet name-generators or something?
(350) GAPAs are somewhat strange creatures. We make ourselves up as we go along. So there’s one, or four, depending on whether you count us as one species.
351-Yeah, I saw that little halo. Cute, eh? And those internet name-generators come up with the dumbest names you can think of… Nepolion Flemming for example…
Werd Cownt: 37,657. I can do this!
Word Count:44810 (As much of a surprise for me as it is for you. That’s about 800 more words than I dreamed of. It’s easy now, whether that’s because I’m at climax or something having to do with the end of nano I don’t know.)
Homework left to complete before bed: questions for a chapter of the history book, study for the map quiz Friday, maybe look at the reading on the Middle East I slept instead of doing yesterday and had to skim in lunch today (I’ll probably choose to sleep again), a page of math problems, a few questions on mitosis
Time until I have to wake up tomorrow: 6.25 hours (I wake at 5:45 and it’s 11:30 now)
My characters are starting to surprise me with their actions. It’s a weird feeling. I’m trying to figure out why it surprises me, and if the reason is because it’s something that actually happened and I didn’t think it was this close to reality but I’m too tired to pinpoint what, or if it’s that I’m just tired enough that anything is surprising, or if this is genuinely something new and good happening to me.
*gasp pant gasp pant* *drinks gallon of water*
I…made…38,000… *collapses on floor and falls asleep*
Sorry I didn’t get to post on a lot of other threads, y’all. 4,000 words to write!
351, 352- Thanks.
45000 and something. I haven’t done my writing for today yet, so I’m right on target. I’m doing really well – bit of a plot twist.
Plus, I finally have a title. Sunset in Niomahn
well, i got two hours of sleep last night, which brought the wc up to 42k. Unfortunately, that pushed me over the brink of sickness, not to mention the timing magically coincided with some of the worst cramps i’ve had in ages. So i came home before band today, because i was basically dying, but i spent the last four and a half hours alternately sleeping, eating, and reading. (and coughing, i guess). So i’ll have the same amount of time as usual tonight. Although i guess i’ll have more sleep and less hw, since i didn’t go to two of my classes (torch stories aren’t assigned yet)
so note to self-if you’re getting sick, don’t stay up until 5 in the morning (i overslept and woke up at 7, which was an absolute chaotic rush, which probably didn’t help)
and i know, you’re thinking “only 3k? in all that time?” that night happened to coincide with the most hw i’ve had in ages too. so i didn’t actually start writing until 1:30-ish. (which is still pathetically slow, but not as pathetically slow)
Life’s just not working with me these days…but i WILL get 50k!!!
40,031! Didn’t break the big Four Oh last night due to parents using computer until I had to go to sleep, but I got it today!!!! And I have practically zero homework, so this is perfect!!!
I’m nearly at 40,500. My morale has been given a serious boost. I hope to get a large amount of words today.
I have 10K to write in the next 3 days. Yay!
I got very little sleep last night, but I didn’t get much writing done. So now, I’m really really tired, and I found out I have an allergy to down blankets. Which explains why I’ve had extremely itchy eyes, nose, ears, and throat for a really long time. I had 4 down blankets on my bed!
50,548!!
I is a winner!
41,070!!!
of course, skimming back over the novel (MS word count gave me 50580, which doesn’t reassure me of the word count accuracy), most of it probalby makes no sense. And I probably won’t be showing it to anyone.
And now all I have to do is get out of this habit of typing control-save every few words. I do it in aim, I do it in facebook, I do it on museblog.. stupid word loss paranoia.
363- Congrats! You show admirable restraint in your celebration.
365-i know the feeling. after a couple hundred words of anything…”OMG I DIDN’T SAVE IT AAH”
so…i still have a lot to do tonight…
*is going to just WRITE like crazy for an hour and see how far she gets*
I’m nearing 42,000. Tomorrow’s Eleventh Hour. I hope I pass 45K by Dark Thirty.
Lizzie (363) – CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!! ::many pies::
I have 41,104 words. I hope to get at least another 1K today!!
::writes furiously::
I’m gonna try to get to 42,000 tonight. It’s quota, I guess.
I fell asleep when I got off the bus so I just started writing. Sad, yes.
I’m horrible at making chapter names. They sound like baby book titles. “Rosetta meets Drew, Vanessa, and Sean”
C’mon, Beavo.
I still need about ten thousand words. Between tonight and tomorrow, I WILL make it. I mean, I can write like one thousand words per hour (mas o menos) so that’s only ten hours… I can do it!
Add “In which” to all chapter headings. Twenty words can make a world of difference.
TNÖ (371) – ::mind boggles:: You have 90K? Congratulations!!
Prarilius Canix (372) – I added “In Which” chapter headings–they’re really fun!
3,784.. -_- -_- -_- And I haven’t worked on it in days. Starting eight days late the first time ever doing this really took the energy out of me, and so I really didn’t get excited about the characters. I spelled everything out as long as I could, and probably made the thing impossible to read by doing so, but it just wasn’t enough. Well, I tried, and there’s always next year.
* -_- x 10,000*
Red-tailed HAWK

372-See, the “in which” chapter headings don’t work with the style of the writing. It would sound too silly, but if I get desperate, I just might.
Congradulations to Lizzie!
Also another congradulations to TNO. *melts* Congradulations on…90K…*jelly time*
I’ll make it as well. A hair away from 42,000, and no curfew on Dark Thirty. I’ll make it.
I miss out on a lot of words by not doing chapters, but they just never work well for me. i switch between characters and settings too much, so i’d have a new chapter every couple pages or so. making titles for them all would just be obnoxious. i don’t even do numbers, just separators.
When I can’t think of anything to write I update my NaNo profile thingie. It dosn’t help at all, but it’s at least something to do.
Werd Cownt: 39,586.
If I want to win I have to write 43000 in 2 days. Not gonna happen. Therefore I resign myself to losing cheerfully.
42K! I’m turning in for the night, satisfied with ending the day with the amazing 42 number and such.
I’m really happy, because at the end of October I thought there was absolutely no way I could make it. I thought I wouldn’t ever have the time to do it, so I was going to attempt, but not expect to win. But I was sick the first 2 days of NaNo, so I had a big word-count boost and gained a lot of confidence and motivation. And now, I look at myself, a month later, and I’m about to win! So I’m really happy. I’ll probably write about 3K tomorrow, then I’ll have to write 5K on Dark Thirty, which shouldn’t be a problem since I can stay up until midnight and not do any homework.
Yay!
380- I feel like I’m looking into a mirror. Your situation is almost exactly like mine, right down to the word count.
373- Um, no, I decided to divide up my novel into two novels because 1. it was getting to unwieldy in my head to keep track of and therefore it would make -10% sense on paper, and 2. I hardly wrote anything for two weeks in the middle of November due to my sweet PROCRASTINATION skills, so no way was I gonna make 100k. I meant I had about 40k. Wish I had 90, that would have been sweet.
I actually wrote the ending… like, two days ago. I think. Something like that. In hopes of actually HAVING an ending, you know? to motivate me for next year.
:idea:TNÖ:idea:
I just watched some CSI, which gave me ideas. And I added the dumb “In Which”‘s to my chapter titles.
40,073. Two thousand left. *gasp pant gasp pant*
I…can…do…this…
Word Count: 47101 (yes! finally ahead of schedule like I haven’t been in a week! at this rate I’ll have to go over 50K to finish the book part. On second thought, however, I don’t really need to write another four or five hours of people on a bus like I did for apparently over 18000 words already. The plot works if I set things up there. It’ll be over 50K,but I did quote a lot of songs.)
Pages in Microsoft Word: 80, plus three lines on the next page
Homework left to do: some science questions(easy), some history questions (hard), study for map quiz and Italian quiz Friday
Time until I have to wake up again: 6.25 hours, about, maybe
My chapters at the beginning are short and at the end are long. I just divide them whenever I feel like it. There are 17 so far. Most recent title- Chapter Seventeen: Where Your Eyes Don’t Go. They practice in the parking lot and go to dinner so far in the chapter. 2550 words so far, but 250 of those are a scene I fit in from writing yesterday. Freak trombone accident. Fun to write.
I’ve decided that I’m not going to stop at 50,000. I’m gonna get there, and then keep writing because there is no way the plot will finish in the next ten thousand words. No way at all. Two of the MC’s haven’t even met!
l’m not doing it, but l will cheer you guys on!
Go!Go!Go! Write!Write!Write!
47063, which puts me at almost exactly what I wanted to accomplish for today. I’m beginning to really, really believe that I can do this. I mean, I could finish tomorrow. There’s no reason on earth why I can’t write 3k in the next few days. This is really possible.
I think I’m going to cry when I finish my novel. I’ll be glad to have my life back, because this has just been one extra stress, but I won’t know what to do without my lovely little piece of drivel to worry over.
Chapters have been major in my story. Basically, it takes me about an hour to figure out what I’m going to do in my next chapter, and then I can write it extremely quickly. Near the beginning of my book especially, I had a lot of structure. I would give the chapter a theme (like “Rebellion” or “A Dull Roar Growing”) and make that the title. Then I would make something happen in every subplot that went along with that theme. It’s the only way I made it this far. I’m terrible about moving the action along in a story. All of my characters tend to sit around and blather endlessly. This way I could figure out where I wanted to move them.
And I’ve been using “in which” things. They’re a lot of fun.
47666. I took a notebook to school today and wrote inmy spare time, and I got over a thousand words. Gotta go!
I wrote a thousand some words at school (My LA teacher is sympathetic to begging on knees) and then LOST IT ALL.
I now officially hate computors.
Well, except for iTunes. And MuseBlog. And e-mail.
Never mind, I like computors.
I’m almost at 43K. I will pass 45K today, hopefully 46K.
I only need… *counts* 844 words and I’ll have hit 50k. *cheers*
LoL, you should see my NaNo stats… I maybe wrote ten days this month. It’s like… up gradually for five days, flat for twenty days, and then shooting up exponentially (almost) for the last five. ^_^
Well, I have decided to continue with my novel, but keep writing until it is no longer fun. I will probably get more words that way, and I know I can’t get 46,000 in the next day
So if the GAPAs would please, leave this thread open even past the Nano deadline. Thanks!
Red-tailed HAWK

385-Shoot for 80k now.
I just passed 43K. Only 2K or more to go today, then 5K or less tomorrow.
391- Congrats! Less than a K to go!
I WON! I WON! *screams and then swiftly restrains the celebratory-ness*
My novel is as going to be well over 50,000 words as well. Two MC’s haven’t even met yet!
So I’m shooting for 45 or 46K if possible today. 45K at minimum. I’m almost at 43,000, only 40 words to go when I get there.
Oh, we still have tomarrow to work on it right? We don’t have to do it all today? Dark thirty’s TOMARROW, right?
The NaNo site dosn’t have a space on the Stats bar graph for Nov. 30th, that’s why I’m worried.
397- Yeah, Dark Thirty’s tomorrow. Today is Eleventh Hour.
I passed 44,000 by wreaking havoc in Paramaribo. Fun.
slight change of plans, i want to get at least 48k tonight, because i need sleep on dark thirty. i have a JSA convention and we’re meeting at 8 AM at robert’s the next day.
Only two NaNoWriMo threads in the entire month. One takes up the first week, the other takes up the other three. Funny.
I need advice. My MCs are stuck in Sydney with no money, no food, no idea where their destination is, and over 5000 words to go. What should they do?
TNÖ (395) – CONGRATULATIONS!!! ::pies::
It’s 9:30, and I haven’t written a single thing on my NaNo today. I was at the library late studying for a Chemistry test and doing work on my Memory Exercises for nonfiction class (which is amazingly flamablamablous, by the way), and I didn’t get home until late-ish. Then, I got home, had dinner, and finished up my homework. Then, I was about to start on my NaNo, and my mom told us she has Colon Cancer. And she’s going to be fine, but I’m still really shaky right now and don’t know if I’ll be able to write much today. I’ll just write all night on Dark Thirty, I guess.
(400) Meet an Aborigine who draws them into a hallucinatory experience of the Dreamtime.
blah
32k. fail. actually, no. TRIPLE FAIL. At least i got better than last year’s 12k. but i’m not gonna reach my goal of 40k! you guys are all gonna win and i’m not! man. I’M ONLY TWELVE AND YOU’RE ALL LIKE FOURTEEN…
oh the paiiin.
401- AAAAAAAAHHH!!!!
*reads rest of post*
Oh, phew. That must have been a horrible shock. At least you know she’s going to be all right….
402- I’m assuming you read my summary. If you didn’t, I’d say that Rosanne isn’t the only GAPA who’s psychic. Thank you for the advice- I’m sure I can fit it in with slight modifications.
403- I’m only 13.
401 – There’s no way I could’ve written after that. That must’ve been like the scariest thing in the world to hear.
I need 1800 words. I hope to get 1k more before going to bed tonight.
(404) PC,
No, I haven’t read your summary. Did I know something that I shouldn’t have been able to know? *thinks “Not again.”*
401-I hope your mom gets better! I hear stuff about my mom (she has to take like, a gazillion pills a day because of polio and “ageing”) and I’d be devestated if she had cancer, even if they could fix the problem.
403-If it’s any help, I’m only twelve. I’m turning thirteen in April (and don’t you forget it!). And plus we haven’t all published articles in Muse. And you have. So Nyuck Nyuck Nyuck!
So. 44,332 words, and I need to get to 46,000 tonight. I’m so not going to make it, but I tried. My parents are engrossed in the idea of me finishing something I started so Mom offered to let me stay home from school tomarrow to finish. There is NO WAY that is going to happen (but it was fun while it lasted).
407-lucky. if i told my mom she’d be supportive…as long as i finished all my homework and got to bed by 10. which doesn’t happen during nano, as you may have noticed…especially when i have jazz band and JSA and stuff going on. and she wouldn’t even think about letting me miss school unless i was actually sick. and i don’t get things done when i’m sick. at all. like yesterday? came home sick at like 12, wc for the night-1000. which is why i’ll be up all night again tonight and probably get myself sick again in time for all the big december papers.
406- Yes, you did. My story is mainly about the Dreamtime (though I added a spicing of Arthurian legend and a liberal helping of my own invention.) At this rate, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Rebecca and PB&J spouting prophecies. *thinks* Actually, PB&J’s already done that. *freaks out*
407- You can do it, Beevs! My word count is only 300 higher than yours, and I have high hopes of finishing!! And my parents would never let me stay home from school, even on Dark Thirty, if I wasn’t sick.
I’ve just gone back and read your NaNoWriMo and NaNoBraSto posts, and I don’t remember having seen any of them before. I really think Rebecca must have moderated them. Maybe I glimpsed the word “Dreamtime” in passing, and that gave me the idea.
As for Rosanne, I’d say she has a very reliable imagination.
410- Must have been it.
You and Rebecca seem to be the GAPAs who are on most often.
We’re certainly the ones who “talk” the most.
I think that Rosanne handles a lot of the late-night traffic, being in a favorable time zone. She’s always aware of what’s happening on the blog whenever I mention it to her.
Reliable imagination… may I use that in my NaNo if the opportunity comes up? I can just see it…
“Are you psychic?”
“No, my dear. I just have a reliable imagination. More tea?”
Go right ahead. I was thinking about working it into the MuseBlog fanfiction, but who knows whether I’ll get the chance?
412- That reminds me. When the GAPAs get together in public places, do you ever loudly talk about blogular affairs just to weird bystanders out?
Not really. We do have other things to talk about, and we’re not much concerned with making an impression. In fact, we’d rather appear Mostly Harmless. (Whether we succeed in doing so is another matter. And when we get together with Musers in public, all bets are off.)
395- *pies!* yeah! are you sendding it in?
416- In other words, you look and act like normal adults most of the time, but anyone who overhears a Kokonvention will probably make a quick call to the funny farm?
and remember, the GAPA ( for he was the only one) had a post way back in 2005, which sparked the museblog fanfic.
(418) Well, “normal,” now… I’m not sure I’d go that far. But we do try to be unobtrusive — which, as anyone who has been to one will tell you, Kokonventions certainly are not.
418- did you watch the video/ musecast 6? or was that rhetorical?
408-Mom hates it when I stay up, but this is “special”, so she’s right behind me doing her late night transcriptions. I type almost as fast as she does and she’s been editing and transcribing for twenty years.
Just goes to show what happens when Beavo puts his head (or fingers) to something.
409-Thanks for the support. I stay up late anyway, I’m just not allowed on the computor after 10 (usually). I have “sleeping problems” which is another reason Mom thinks I’m “emu”. Yes, I said emu.
I dunno, though. I do have a rather long neck. But I haven’t layed any over normal eggs recently.
But seriously, NaNoWriMo something Mom thinks is productive. And when I’m doing something Mom thinks is productive (which is unoften) she’s all for it. She probably wants me to finish my novel more than I do.
413/14-Something like that’s definatly going in my novel also. Except without the tea part.
The only two musers I’ve met (to my knowledge) are Hannah and Eliza. Eliza wasn’t to extatic about it and would rather talk about ponies, and Hannah’s subscription ran out. I kept bugging her to start on MuseBlog before it did but noooo…
So, think I should stop for tonight?
Werd Cownt: 45,066. I think that’s enough. Five thousand words to go peoples! *rock out hand signal in air*
I. Am. Never. Reading. This. Thread. Again.
I know that it was not to be, after the fire I gave up all faint hopes of winning, and sometimes I feel so cheerfully resigned and really don’t care, and then a slight mood change and my world shatters.
I dreamed that I met a fellow WriMo, an adult, and she told me that I could make it if I wrote fast enough. Twas funny,
3,239 words. Oh god.
Word Count:50144 (wow. just, wow.)
There’s still over a chapter, I’m just about to reach the climax. I can’t believe it. Maybe I can write enough to cover all the filler I want to edit away tomorrow night. (I’ll send it in to MuseBlog after I edit.)
Homework left: study for map quiz, English quiz and Italian quiz (glance at it now, study during lunch), finish math homework (I’ll do it during lunch), some quick biology questions I’ll do now that I need for the morning
Time until I have to wake up again: 5.75 hours
50049
I totally won NaNo! Exclamation points galore can not do my excitement justice.
I’m going to bed now. Now that I’ve won, I can sleep.
(415) What does seem to get noticed is the Muse Academy bumper sticker on my car. I’ve been asked where the school is, whether I went there, if I have kids there, and so on. If anyone can suggest a
cleversuitably mysteriousmostly harmless answer, I’d love to hear it.427- “I wish.”
What I wish is that I could win. But I’ve given up all hope and now my only goal is 35k by the end of the day.
404- I’M IN SIXTH GRADE AND HAVE TOO MUCH HOMEWORK SO THERE.
blah
I hate my braaaaces. They’re broken so I’m going back to the ortho’s place today to get them re-glued and I get to miss 1st period math YAY!
I don’t see any way that writing 35,000 words in one month could be considered a failure (except maybe by teachers who resented the competition).
429- Aw, thanks! You hath encouraged mee.
I did it! I did it! I did it! Does victory dance!
50028
Congratulations! Waiter — a round of pies for everyone, on the house.
OK. This might seem dumb, but what in the world is NaNo Write Month?
433- Its National Novel Writing Month. And I hope you dont want to do it unless you feel like writing 35000 words in a day and a half.
423-Alice, just the fact that you’re still writing after that experience makes you a total winner. my computer crashed after the first week of script frenzy, and i just gave up. and there are people on here *coughGLASSYcough* who just gave up because they didn’t think they could make it, but you’re still writing and i think that’s fantastic. Virtual choklit for you! *sends*
Who writes 35k words in a day and a half? If I could do that, I actually would win this year. Am I following this right? haven’t really been on lately…
435- No, I might’ve been able to make it. I just got bored/demotivated.
Oh my god so close. Been reading this thread instead of typing though. Grr.
48208
The NaNo site won’t let me submit the novel! Problem?
Nevermind. I got it all straightened out, I had submitted the wrong time zone.
So, today’s the final stretch, eh? We’re running as fast as we can, some of us came in early, some are almost there, some tried their best but just couldn’t make it.
Werd Cownt: 46,276. I better pick up my feet and run faster. Some choklit would be appriciated.
Crud. Everybody’s winning, and I’m barely at 46,000. I’m staying up till midnight, though.
441-Ooh, me too! Even if I do get 50,000 before that, I have to keep writing. I actuallly wanna finish my
novelepic.46733. I wrote almost 2000 words in 3 hours. I can do this!
45,527 words. I don’t want to spend much time posting right now, since I still need 4.5K to finish my novel. I have 5 hours, so I should be able to make it.
More later…
DONE!!!!
50025.
47012!!!
DONE! i’m going to stay up until midnight anyway though, just for s&g, and you all are hereby ORDERED to post your novels so i can read them!
i’m not done, story-wise, but i reached 50k
447- I hear and obey. Mine will arrive in the GAPAs’ inbox at around 12:30 AM by California time at the latest.
417- After I edit… extensively. Like, there’s this one scene where I referenced a scene that I had thought that I had already written only I hadn’t written it at all, so there’s this gaping hole right in the middle of my novel.
(443, 444, etc.) Go! Go! Go!
I just made a “Do Not Disturb: Writing” sign and taped it to the back of my shirt. You will not hear from me for some time.
Oh, one thing I forgot to mention: My book conclusively explains the origin of HPBs. (Actually, the correct name is aichpibin, singular aichpibi, but that’s another story which won’t be finished until tonight.)
I think I’m changing the name of my novel from Fourhenge to Flamehenge, because that’s the only Henge they’ve gotten to so far. Next year maybe I’ll write a sequel.
47K!!
Okay, that’s the last time you will hear from me until I’m finished.
::locks self in Microsoft Word, not to return until wordcount thing says 50K and it is submitted to NaNoWriMo::
I’ll be glad when this month is over and the various other writing threads are no longer empty, echoing and dusty.
447-I’ll post mine when it’s done. Which will be some time in January. And edited.
So, here we are at this moment, with four hours left.
Werd Cownt: 48,117. You will not hear from me until 50,00 appears in my post with five smiley faces.
I’ll be posting regular updates, actually, until I reach 49K. 48040 words.
200 to go.
100.
30.
Oh god.
50,000.
I need a few more from the site though, it subtracts about 30 from my total. And there’s still a bit more I can type.
Okay, entered and won with 50,042 acording to their counter. Squee!!!
And updating it now, I just finished the scene.
So I have… 50,352
Also, I successfully managed to to work in the phrase ‘and then the aliens landed’ as that one pep talk told me too. Although it’s only a sentence and a rather disappointing one at that.
I know I said I wouldn’t come back again until I finished, but I’m taking a short break, so I thought I’d post.
I have 49,012 words!! Only about 1K left to go, and I’m really excited.
::skips off to finish NaNoWriMo::
Sorry for the triple post, but I’ve thought of a temporary title to give it for now, because I don’t want it to be locked up without a title. I think I’m going to go with In Dreamings. Not the best it could be, but it’ll do for now.
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!
I WON I WON I WON I WON I WON I WON I WON I WON!
I WON!
*dances the Tarentella*
I…won….
I checked in at 50,013. The novel, as I perceved, is not finished. It will be about 80,000 words when it is.
Does it take the NaNo site a very long time to put “WINNER” on your profile and send you the certificate, or does it send it right away?
Congratulations everybody!
I really want to do it next year, now.
I finished!
50K wasn’t that hard, after all
Now I’m just waiting for Word to scramble my document so I can submit it. Squee!
Congratulations, Beavo! ::pies::
463-Scramble? What does that mean?
I was reading the winner letter thing, and they said that Script Frenzy is in April. That’s weird, I wonder why they changed it.
Cat’s Meow (464) – You scramble all the words and letters in your novel so that when you submit it for the robots to count, there is no chance that someone else can steal your novel.
465-Is Script Frenzy like NaNoWriMo but with plays or something?
That’s weird. How does it do that?
49252 words! I’m going to make it!!
49407!!!! Sorry about the double post, but I need somewhere to glorify my speedily increasing word count!
On the same note, here’s something fun I did.
I named my lack of words Rosencrantz, and my lack of time Guildenstern. So when I finish, I can have a logical excuse to yell “ROSENCRANTZ AND GUILDENSTERN ARE DEAD!!!” at the top of my lungs.
467-Let’s go PC, let’s go! ^_^
also to 40,000 words, my goal!
39,967!
40000!
yeah!
make it PC! make it! make it pc make it!
463-And congradulations to you to, Pan! *pies right back* Mmm, key lime, my favorite!
C’mon PC, you can do it!
Wooo! Go PC! *readies a pie to hurl when he finishes*
Good job, tmfa, you made your goal.
And congratulations to everyone that made it!! *pies&sparklingjuices*
This was amazing guys.
49662!
Go, MuseBlogNaNoWriMoers, GO!!!!!!
Hello, Rosanne! It’s exciting, isn’t it?
475- *is going*
476- Yes, indeed!
49810!
475- hi!
do eirther of you know if lady bunnyful is on? how is she doing in NaNo?
474- Thirty more minutes by my clock, go Go GO!
Yoo can doo eet!
Yay, everyone! Go go go!!! You can do it!!

This is actually very exciting. During the last 1K of my novel, I was basically shaking. Well, not shaking I guess, but I felt really excited and happy and such.
Because I still can’t believe I made it.
can at midnight, we get a new theard? NaNoAftMa? (NaNoaftermath?
Hi, TMFA. Congrats on your awesome NaNoWriMo accomplishment. As to Lady Bunniful, I can’t tell if she’s on either. I’m guessing not, though, or she’d have spoken up by now.
thanks, rosanne. I will expect a banana cream pie for it.
did you know that you were the GAPA that welocme pied me?
480-I was shaking too! I have a calculator that I stole from Dad and I was using it every five minutes to calculate exactly how many words I had left. On the last two thousand my hands started to shake and by the time I got to five hundred my heart was pounding and I was grinning uncontrollably.
I can’t believe I made it either. It’s my first year even KNOWING about NaNoWriMo.
So, who’s doing Script Frenzy?
final word count for the nano site: 52531
There’s still a little bit to write, a chapter or so? I’ll do it this weekend…
Congratulations, everyone! Whether you succeeded or not. Special kudos if you had trouble finishing it due to bad circumstances.
question about sending it in: my novel contains profanity and such that wouldn’t be accepted if it were in a post. How shall I edit it when I eventually send it in? Is asterisks okay? Should I do minor rewrites to the scenes and remove it entirely? To what level should I censor it, what’s the border of decency?
another question: real things are referenced. It takes place in New York State, it’s about marching band mostly, I used real bands as the competition, although the rest is fictional. I wasn’t allowed to mention the bands in my normal marching band summaries. Does anyone have a suggestion for a high school name for me to substitute, two words?
49966!!! And it’s only a quarter till nine o’clock!
(482) I think Lady B. has gone to bed. She mentioned something about having a busy day tomorrow.
Hi, Robert! Yes, it is exciting!! Maybe I’m going to have to try it one of these years
484- ME! and I think Pc might.
I have an Idea for feburay! MuBloGroWriMo
Muse
blog
group
write
month
sounds good? a month long RRR?
485-Ooh, I hadn’t thought about that. Mine contains a good amount of profanity that would not be let within ten feet of my language arts teacher. It also references my school, a whole bunch of people I know, and certain personal facts. Hmm…
I think I’m gonna C&P my novel into another document and title it “Magic: Handle with Care/The Censored Version” and edit it from there.
486- 34 more word! yeah! finsh, finsh, finsh!
Rosanne (488) – Why don’t you start with Script Frenzy? Apparently it’s going to be in April this year, (as opposed to June, like it was last year), and it’s only 20,000 words instead of 50,000 words. But then again, it’s also a screen/stage play, making it a bit more difficult sometimes. But you should do it!
I *think* I’ll do Script Frenzy, but I haven’t decided for sure yet. I’ll have to see when April comes around. But I probably will.
This year feels like I accomplished so much more, even though I finished both times. I guess because I really didn’t think I would win, and each day was a “wow, I made it this far, yay!” instead of last year when I thought, “oh no, I’m so behind gaahhhhh.” So it made it much more enjoyable. Plus, this year many more MBers are doing it, and a few of my friends from school did it too, so it made it more fun, I guess.
TMFA (483): Well, here’s another pie for you (banana cream) for old time’s sake — and because you finished NaNoWriMo. *Splat!*
Enjoy the chocolate/caramel-lined pastry crust!
WOW! 9 post (lower by moseration) and this will have to be the longest theard!
493- yummey! *lickes pie off face*
I WINNED!!!! I IS SO HAPPY I IS NOT BEING GRAMMATICAL!!!!!!
50297 WDS!!
Prarilius Canix – CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!
::massive pies::
496- YEAH! *PiePiePiePiePiePiePiePiePiePie*
that a pie for ever three days.
A great congratulatory pie to everyone who has won in NaNoWriMo. *pies*
in fact, for ever one who finsh, have ten pies!
Oh, man. My family has been really supportive of me (though I would never let them read it) and when I finished, we popped open a bottle of pear cider and celebrated.
490- Well, yeah, of course. My nano contains probably over a thousand words of my main character’s nano, which is basically me ranting about my personal life and which I don’t think I’m going to let anyone read ever. I’m planning on saving the finished original as A Self Called Nowhere (raw version), and having one edit with profanity and such but using proper formatting and all that’s the main version, for friends and people who don’t mind profanity, and another edit that’s MuseBlog safe and that I might actually show to my English teacher (actually, I talked to her, and I’m getting extra credit for reading an excerpt, like five minutes, in front of the class.) which I refer to as the clean edit.
Also, in my question, I would prefer a more specific and unambiguous answers. I kind of expect to be using my best judgment, but how strict are the restrictions? And would I have to edit whole sections of banter and innuendo, or would it just be removing certain words? (It sounds like my novel’s so dirty when I ask these questions. It only applies to certain sections… and it kind of is when you think about it, the two main focuses are the main character liking someone and marching band, both which lend themselves easily to that sort of thing.)
NaNoWriMo has ended for my time zone!
I don’t know about Script Frenzy. Last year it was June, and that with finals is just no. This year, I think the site said April… maybe, it depends what I’m doing then.
500th post! w00t!
and to make this worth while here is my tip of the month
do not give up! when you have writers block, blog about your writers block intill it is gone!
501- Pear Cider, eh? Maybe I should do NaNoWriMo next year.
My parents were really supportive, too. We didn’t really do anything when I finished, though. That’s okay, because my excitement was enough.
504- You should!
I’m Emailing my NaNoWriMo to the GAPAs pronto.
506- I can not wait to read it!
494- So this is the longest thread ever?
this year, there were 1266 post ( as I can see) on all theard related to nano: nanobrasto, the two this month, and the tips.
there were only 369 last year (with both theards and Ebeaths Nano.
I e-mailed it. The GAPAs should find it in their inbox.
510- Cool. Where will they put it on the Blog?
I’ll e-mail mine sometime tomorrow. I want to read it and fix any drastic typos and such. Then, I’ll send it and hide from all of the humiliation because it is probably the worst thing I’ve ever written. Ever.
511- Depends. If a lot of people send theirs in, the GAPAs will put them on a storage site and put links to them in one thread. If very few, or only one, send their NaNos in, the GAPAs might give each one its own thread.
512- Actually, I’m pretty satisfied with how mine turned out. Heck, it could use some editing, but what’s December for?
A note: the story is not finished. Do NOT feel disappointed because I ended it at a cliffhanger. I will continue it for my next NaNo. Maybe. *torments everyone*
Purple Panda (492): Script Frenzy does seem less daunting. Though still, 20,000 words divided by 30 (days in April) = 667 words I’d need to write per day. That probably seems like nothing to you NaNo winners!
Great BIG Pies to Prarilius Canix, Curious and Questioning, and Beavo. And to all other MuseBlogNaNoWriMos.
*SPLAT SPLAT SPLATTY SPLAT SPLAT*
Congratulations!
What an exciting finish! Pies for all!
So far we’ve received Prarilius Canix’s novel, which you can read here. PC, I’ve called it Flamehenge per your comment above. Should you wish to change it, let me know.
Other novels will be posted as they come in. See the MuseBlog NaNo Novels thread for more information.
514- I was writing more then twice that sometimes!
516- how did you do?
I think this is the longest a non-random theard has gone, post number.
