WOOT My first first post!
OK Starting off, what do you guys think of child molesters, especially priests? Already about 50 have been arrested for child molestation in Boston, and 3 in my town. They are creeps and should get life sentences or the deth penalty. Why? Think about this: Kids who are molested are bound to get emotional and psychological problems as they grow older. They may or molest someone else. So basically those perv wackos ruin kids lives and they should be killed for it.
have you guys heard about the Robert Picton trial? also recently as in yesterday i believe some girl was abducted by her parents. its all over our news. she still hasn’t been found!
2- In america we have the amber alert, what do you have up there?
1- i think it’s horrible because most of the time the kid’s don’t know who to turn to because they have the idea that grown ups are always right. when they grow up they can finaly cometo terms whith the fact that what happened was not their fault and stuff but i think it’s really terrible.
Robert Picton was found with bits of women (prostitues) around his farm. it was really big last year but i don’t reallly know the details. i think there needs to be more security for prostitutes as Robert Picton is said to have killed about 60 women prostitutes.
1-Death penalty for that right off is a bit extreme, I think. They should be seen by a psychiatrist, decided whether or not anything can be done about them, and either helped, or then killed.
4-Well, they are kind of knowingly risking their lives…but that’s, as should be apparent, their choice. Not that I approve of killing them, goodness, no!, but it’s not up to everyone else to protect them. Sorry…here we go again!
(You know, I kind of think that the HT thread is the least happy to see me back… )
The human race is naturally flawed. A lot of people have been angry enough at one time or another to want to kill someone, but still most of those people realize the repercussions of such an act and refrain from murder. The ones who follow through do not think about or do not care about the consequences. The question is, why would a person not care? Or in the case of a child molester, is the desire for whatever pleasure molesting brings them greater than fear of the consquences?
1- first off child molesting sometimes is like serial killing. The people can’t help it. (they still should be removed from society)
Killing is a bit extreme, though.
The rabbi my dad replaced was a child molester. So my synagogue has a bunch of rules about kids.
What do you think about generalizations about Islam? I really scares me because most muslims wouldn’t hurt a puppy, never mind blow themselves up.
I think the blanket statements lead to dehumanization and that leads to an excuse for genocide.
7-I think that Islamic people are really no different than Christians. I mean, Islam is a religion that promotes peace, not violence…
And yes, there are some extremist Islamics, but it’s not like there aren’t any extremist Christians. Holocaust, anybody?
3- uh… what’s the amber alert?
5- no we’re happy! (at least, i am. i always miss you when you’re aways)
is there still death penalty in the US? I personaly think the death penalty is wrong. my friend made a realy good speech about it, telling us all the different methods of killing and how it takes effect and stuff.
8- and crusades.
9- Amber Alert- its a report that goes out when a child is abducted. Its like an APB, well, all the police stations in the state get notified, so it helps to get the kid back safely. And yes, we do have the penalty in some states. But not in MA unfortunately. I am a supporter of it.
7- There are extremist EVERYONE. Theres extremist native american and extremist jews who blow up Muslim schools in jerusalem. Also there’s this town called Meah Shearim in Jerusalem, where if your driving on Saturday theyll throw rocks at your car. (kind of hypocritical since your not allowed to throw stuff, either). Extremism is wrong, no matter what race or religion. And for sure theres extremist christians, like the people who go to soldiers and gay peoples funerals with signs like God s Fags and God s America.
1-As I’ve said before, I’m against the death penalty. I know a great many people who have been molested and lots of them are very close friends and family members. Some have been molested by people who were very close to them, and this makes it hard to hate the person. They might be perverted and they might be horrible people, but they do not deserve to die. And some of them are neither anyway.
I know a guy (he’s in high school now, I think) who molested a six year old kid. The guy is actually a very good person. He’s generous, simpathetic, and has a whole bunch of self control. I certainly do not think he deserves to die, and neither does the six year old kid (who’s in my grade now).
Rape, on the other hand, is another topic I know less about, so I won’t say anything lest I confuse myself and offend others.
5-Many women go into prostitution because they need the money, not because they enjoy having casual sex.
1-I dont think death penalty should be legal. No offense, I just dont think it is right to take away the life of one of your equals, a human being.
12- BUT, who knows? The kid is 6 years old, and he probably doesn’t know the full truth about his sicko “friend”.
13- The penalty should be legal because if you deserve it, youve either taken another human’s life, which you describe as wrong, or youve messed up someone’s life by doing something to them that makes them go through emotional problems. 87% of all kids who are molested will have psychological problems, and 19% will . Also, i know some of you are atheist/agnostic, (i’m not), but it is clearly stated in the Bible (and Hammurabi’s Code, and various other law pieces that we use today) “An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth” (Exodus 21 vs. 23-36, and in the new testament Matthew 5:38). Furthermore, if you have destroyed one of the humans placed on this earth by the Supreme, you shall be destroyed. Sorry to be so religious, but it backs up my case.
14-No, the kid is twelve now. He’s a close friend of mine. He was molested by this kid when he was six (which makes the kid who molested him twelve at the time).
An eye for an eye, and soon the whole world is blind.
-Gandhi
16-That is so true.
I would be blind at least one hundred times over…
I like my eyes! Don’t take them away! Nooo!
16- Yeah. And toothless, so it’d starve to death. At least, we could drink very nutritional liquids. Wait, but we’d be blind.
13- I agree. Does paying for something like a death with a death equal a life? It doesn’t bring the person back. It just makes it a double negative. It should be balanced, you know? They should do community service and counseling, but never killed….
5-yep. death penalty is extreme. always is.
as for child molesters, i really think its very much overplayed by the media. personally, i think pedophilia is a problem, but not that big of one, and the extent that the media thinks it exists, i do not. i mean, the idea of it in such a huge way has started very recently, and these things do not develop like that. pedophilia has always existed, as has homosexuality, we simply did not consider it a problem. pedophilia, that is, life has gotten much better for homosexuals. in ancient rome, pedophilia was accepted, and thought of as good. homosexuality, however, was thought of as a terrible crime. its all very subjective.
7-blanket statements about islam… well, islam is a terrible and violent religion. this doesnt mean that all people who practice it are terrible and violent people, but it must affect them somehow. anyway, blanket statements are bad. islam is marginally worse than christianity, so my beliefs about religion really do not affect the way that people should treat muslims.
8-exaclty. christianity–bad, islam–a little worse.
9-yep! and we’re proud to be the only country in the western world to still resort to medieval ways of punishing our criminals(or non-criminals, as the case may be.)
16- i really like Gandhi.
17-you’ve poked out people’s eyes? lol i know you didnt meant that, but thats what you said.
I have muslim friends who have been stopped at the airport. Its really stupid how people think that muslims are teribble. The extremists like Al Qaeda say, It says in the Q’uran that you should kill people that aren’t muslim. Well my family has a copy at home (not muslim but my dad says its good literature) and i looked it up and there is no such reference.
Changing the subject, recently in my town, an anti-hate group called “The Anti-Defamation League” was kicked out of my town because the leader denied the Armenian Genocide. That’s really terrible but now, its like a witch hunt for non-acgnolegers. My friend C’s dad denied it, and now my armenian friends wont hang out with him.
Some other people are saying that we need an Anti-Defamation League because its main purpose is to protect jews and blacks. Why it was started here is that there is a semi-strong Ku Klux Klan Chapter in my town. A Jew with a menorah in her window got a brick through the window and a note with which i cant go in full detail because it would get zapped.
Bottom Line, the ADL in my view, no matter what they are here for, are racist idiots. How can you deny the of 1,500,000 people?
GFor those of you who are claiming that islam is worse than christianity:
look at the prophets.
The bible
the spanish inquisition
the crusades
thhe holocaust.
21-Yeah, my dad gets stopped sometimes because he looks slightly arab and often wears a muslim head covering as a yarmulke.
12-Yes, well, their still taking a risk…I never said anything about why.
12- You have to read “Killing Mr. Griffin” On the outside Mark was nice……
21- Can anyone see a connection betwenn Al Gore and Al Qeada? One blonde friend thought Al gore was a terrorist. Then again, she thought you could drive to Cuba. I don’t have anything against muslims and I’m a strict Catholic.
11- you’re a suporter of death penalty? why? (if you don’t mind my asking. i’d like to hear a good argument for it.)
12- it’s usualy people close to the child that molest them. sometimes people who are very mature in one way are very imature in another.
14- but by killing a killer you are sinking down to their level. do you really want to win the fight that way? taking a human’s life is wrong so how does taking the life of one that took another’s life make it right? it doesn’t. two wrongs such as that do not make a right. it’s a logic that can’t be worked around. so far your argument does not convice me. besides, you can make one suffer more by keeping them alive than if you were to kill them. now a question to you: if (only if) you were sentanced to the death penalty. and if (only if) you were guilty of taking anothers life, would you still think it just that you be killed because you took anothers life?
16- and then the triffids attack!
21- that doesn’t sound like the most accepting place to live.
24- your friend need some educatin’!
25 RE- post 11, see 14
Killing a killer is not sinking down to their level, it is removing them from society. Society doesn’t need someone who takes another’s life. I’m all for rehabilitation of inmates, but rehab will not fix the damage one has done by taking one’s life. If you kill and you have a mental disorder, I don’t believe in the penalty because the insanity killed that person, not the person themselves.
My town, I dont find it as racist as it sounds. Its not like i live in Birmingham in 1961. For us at my school, I have friends of various races, including Armenian, Lebanese, Palestinian (im jewish btw), Black, Asian (Korean, Chinese Japanese), Indian (from India), Swedish, Dominican, Haitian, Italian, and Jewish. All my friends get along with each other. Some of my friends are biased, like my armenian friends who Turkish people (which is kind of understandable, but then again I dont Germans and Anglos cause of the mass genocide they committed against my people) and i have some homophobic friends. I used to be kind of homophobic but I’m over that. The problems in our town happen because of the diverse sort of people we have here.
86.13% White, 10.90% Asian, 1.13% Black or African American, 0.08% Native American, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.34% from other races, and 1.41% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.41% of the population.
26- but you can remove them from socity with out killing them! give them live in prison.
26 – But there are other ways of removing a killer from society, such as a life-long jail sentence. In killing a killer, you definitely are sinking down to their level. When you kill someone, you are becoming a killer yourself.
26- oh, but it is sinking down to their level. and speller73 really sums up what i was going to say.
27/28- i agree with you
the death penalty is completely wrong, yes, the us still has it. we’re the only so-called first world nation that does. do you seriously want to kill anyone?
child molestation is wrong, certe, but so is killling people for it.
an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind, luvvies. ( i know someone already said that, but i heart gandhi, so i thought i’d repeat it)
racial profiling and our fox-news-abetted distorted view on Muslims are ridiculous. read Habibi, y’all. the majority of Muslims support peace, and the Arab world is reknowned for it’s generosity.
what do you guys think about legalizing prostituion?
24-I know both these people personally. Like, really, really good friends. I seriously doubt that either of them are bad at all. It turned out that the kid in high school now was molested as a child as well.
30-That depends on the area it is legalized in. Some places really don’t have that much of a problem with it, while others do. Legalizing prostitution in my city wouldn’t be very rational.
25- she can’t help being bleached blonde but she has absolutly no common sense…
30- I’m against it. I know jobs can be scarce but if prostitution is illegal than the government can step in and say “you aren’t allowed to do that’ and help them. if we legalize it, thats opening up the oppurtunity and no one can stop them.
28- I like the idea of puting criminals to work, it isn’t nice but it gets rid of anger and potentially dangerous people at the same time.
14-I dont believe that, sorry. I didnt say I dont think they should be punished, they should be severely punished, but the Constitution has an ammendment against cruel and unusual punishment, and I think death is too severe. Also, not everyone believes in the Bible. And if we keep using death penalty, think of all the other things that could happen pretty soon it would scary……
16-Love it!!!
19-Yup!!!
21-I know, it is so stupid, just because they are muslim or look middle eastern doesnt mean they are terrerists.
Help them? Not even those people on ABC who make reality shows about them help them. The government hasn’t done much in the way of helping.
32 – I agree about putting criminals to work. It is much better than the death penalty.
32- No, when it’s illegal the government would most likely arrest them. Maybe make it legal, but also offer help to whoever would turn to it.
That’s the problem, they don’t offer help. Until they do, drugs and prostitution should be illigal.
33- in the movie “the mist” it’s realy scary because religiouse fanatics get out of hand and start killing people.
37- exactly. instead of focusing on weather it’s legal or not people should focus on the fact that it’s happening and that it needs to be stopped. just illegalizing/legalizing it woun’t help because it will go on anyways. we need to focus on the fact that these people need help and passing general laws like that won’t help the prostitutes trapped in this buisness. they need help, perhaps it’s food, shelter medical care and anytthing else but we need to look at the needs and adress them that’s the realy problem. people generalize, i find, way too much. we need to remember that weather it’s legal or not it will still happen and we need to solve the problem.
Ok, peoples, I need to start a discussion on gun control, because I have a paper due on it in a week and a half.
For or Against, and Why?
(if you please)
Wheather is the stuff that rains on you and shines on you and generally regulates your morning mood.
Whether is the word you might want to use.
39- gun control is good. that’s my oppinion but i don’t know enough to have facts to back it up *wink*
40- you know what? kagy is exempt from spelling rules.
(40) What’s weather, then?
41-Clever, clever…*wink back*
42-Hahaha!
42-Rihgt, I msut laren to selpl smotieme.
Weather is when you have somebody who can actually spell in the house.
It is more important to know whether there will be weather than what the weather will be.
Sorry, had to be said.
And, not to make this post *utterly* pointless, I will now proceed to explain my new phrase for a certain type of politician.
The phrase is, gentlemen, drumroll please…
GOB from the GOP!
You like it? Good Old Boy from the Grand Old Party. I’m sure I don’t have to name names.
45-Oh, no, please do! I’m curious to hear what you have to say…and will you kindly state your opinion on gun control, and why it’s your opinion?
Replying to various posts that shall go unnamed:
Gob from the gop. I like it.
“Sex is not the enemy.”
-Garbage
I believe in strict gun control. If you really need a gun that much, you shouldn’t have much trouble proving it to in order to get a license. We can’t know all cases, but I believe that in almost all of them there is a solution other than pulling an AK47 out from under your coat and proceeding to perforate your robber.
If you need more specific views or evidence I shall be glad to oblige.
My wethers don’t care what the weather is whether or not you do.
Gun control: I am moderately for it. I think people should have the right to own guns for hunting and other recreational purposes if they wish but guns that are very powerful should be regulated. People should have to somehow prove (with a test or a class or something) that they understand that dangers and risks and safety procautions associated with owning guns.
I’m surprised there hasn’t been a presidential election debate yet here. I like Obama for a number of reasons. First of all Newsweek was talking about his weakness being that he wasn’t assertive and basically rude enough to win the presidency. If that’s his only weakness… well I don’t count that as a weakness, maybe a kinder and more charismatic person might be good to help America make more friends. Obama wants to gradually get troops out of Iraq and he aready has a plan. Though I’m a little fuzzy on his idea for healthcare, he sounds a little more moderate, not “pay for everyone everywhere” and not “let ’em take care of themselves”. He’s asking good questions like why healthcare, especially medications cost so much in the first place too.
so, OBAMA ’08!!!!!!!!!
48- I don’t know who to choose. I don’t really have an opinion on gun control, but I am against same mariage because of my religious beliefs. Im sure you guys will probably post bad things about me after I stated that, but it is my belief and I respect anyone who disagrees. I dont like hillary, and I think obamas ok. im an independent so i can choose whatever party.
Im choosing between
Richardson (D)
Obama (D)
and McCain (R).
45- gob means mouth *chuckles*
50- youre Kagy right? cause noone i know says gob for mouth?
It’s British (and evidently Canadian) slang. For example, in Britain “gobstoppers” are the candy that Americans call “jawbreakers.”
idk, the more i learn about edwards, it seems the more i like him. i don’t think he’s going to win, but there are some things i really like about him. i like obama too, but he seems more vague with his policy ideas. i am pretty definitely against hillary though. i really don’t think she’s the kind of political leader we need right now.
I was pretty well set against all the republicans at the youtube debate…i’m sorry, but illegal immigration is an issue i get really po’d about, and all the republican candidates seemed against it.
shut yer gob, cliffy! we say gob around here! canadia is cool! as are the brits. ♥
“Im sure you guys will probably post bad things about me after I stated that, but it is my belief and I respect anyone who disagrees.”
very respectful cliffz-man, assuming that anybody who disagrees will post bad things about you. Relax everybody! we’re all musers here, and the flame wars are over. if anybody tries that again, i’ll pie them. (i’ve been hanging around this thread a lot more often lately, so i figure i should declare myself as an official Poster on the HT Thread now)
also, nano’s over and i can’t hold it in any longer…*tries unsuccessfully to hold it in longer…* there’s an apostrophe in “I’m”
RE: prez: don’t know.
47-Well, if you don’t mind providing more specific examples for you argument, that would be really cool…thanks!
48-That’s a very moderate opinion. But the Constitution says, and I quote, “…the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” (the part I left out just talks about the Militia and state freedoms). So, really, the only thing you’d have to do (or could, really) is make a specific legal definition of who classifies under “people”…on the other hand, there are fake ID’s…hm…tricky, huh (sans sarcasm)?
49-Have you checked out Ron Paul? He’s definitely my pick (which I know doesn’t much matter to you, but as long as we’re stating opinions…)!
(55) I don’t know whether legal scholars have delved into this, but defining “arms” could also be a bit tricky. Should they include machine guns, flamethrowers, and rocket-propelled grenades? Or, at the other extreme, would a truly strict interpretation confine them to weapons available in the late 18th century? (That would be picturesque.)
37- You’re right, that is Garbage
51- I say it, i just don’t type it in case you thought im weird…
i’m not against guns, it is in the Constitution, but only for defence. If you have any sort of record, even drunk driving, you should not be able to own a gun. (they should amend it so it says, ” unless you are deemed unsuitable by the law you may own a gun”)
(55) Since the amendment is short, you might as well quote the whole thing, especially as many of the arguments for and against take their cue from the part you left out.
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
It says “Keep” and “bear,” but not actually “use.” Have any gun-control promoters tried to exploit that loophole?
Nor does it mention ammunition. Not a very well drafted law, I’d say. If the Framers had been more careful, they’d have saved people nowadays a lot of headaches.
60-Or maybe that was their plan. Hard to revolt when you have a headache. Besides, they needed to keep the world nice and peaceful until Mostly Harmless could come along
I am all for the 18th century weapons idea. I think i’ll carry a few around as a sign of protest
also, as my friend hewitt pointed out…
“it makes the whole “concealed arms” thing useless
u really cant “conceal” a 5 ft long muzzle loader”
51/52- not canadian slang. i only know it means mouth because i read blue monday (by chynna clugston major) and one of the characters is irish and she uses “gob” alot and eventualy defines it.
While we’re on the topic, if even peripherally:
Poutine=dish with french fries, gravy, bean curd
Duck=Canadair flying boat
Redcoat, Dudley, Dudder Reddier, Mountie=member of the RCMP
kablunak=whitey
‘Mo=short for Eskimo
Suther, Sudder, Triple=American, esp. one from the south
Scraper=a snowsport person of talent
Lasker=a person from Alaska
56-In that case, more specific definitions would need to be added.
58-Really? How? Please elaborate; I’m trying to get more argument stuff.
61-Actually, Thomas Jefferson suggested that a regular “revolution” be had every 20 years. Americans would restart the gov’t, make new laws, etc.
65 (S-kitty)- Yes, but I think he was being hyperbolic.
Hm, more specific arguments? Well, look at the Second Amendment. How out of date is it? Is a well-regulated militia still necessary to the security of a free state? I’m betting no. And even if it is, guns aren’t going to do a lot of good against many of the enemies we face nowadays.
The “If having a gun is a crime, then only criminals will have guns” argument doesn’t jive either. If gun ownership is criminalized, then you can haul someone into court for having one, it makes it a lot easier to punish people who are clearly skeezing around the law. Besides, there are ways besides guns to defend yourself.
We shouldn’t outlaw all gun ownership at once, though. Let’s start with that assault rifle ban the GOP didn’t renew and work our way up. Give me one situation where a normal American citizen has needed an assault rifle. Seriously now, I want to know.
I really like Obama, and Edwards, but I dont like Hillary. There is just something…….I dont know. That was random, but I read someones post while I was waiting for the page to load, and they said the same thing so I just wanted to point it out.
This morning I heard that Bush wants to turn this war into World War 3. I’m sorry but that just……ARG! I just think that is stupid, feel free to disagree, but we have been studying about the 2 world wars, and this war going on now does not seem like a big enough conflict to start another horribly gruesome war where millions of men and woman die. I realize that sometimes war is not really avoidable (I just wish there was worl peace *daydreams*) but I really dont think this is like that. World War 3? OMG! Sorry, once again, but this REALLY makes me upset.
64- what kind of slang is that? if it’s supposed to be canadian well, sorry to disapoint you but noone says any of those things except the mounty one and poutine. and eskimo is politicaly incorrect. they are the Inuit not eskimos. get it straight.
I agree with Penty, post #66. Nobody needs an assualt rifle when they’re sauntering down Manhattan. Nobody.
Those little things that you keep in your coat pocket don’t really bother me if they’re for defence. So if there’s any gun (or weapon, for that mattter) that isn’t really needed, you shouldn’t be carrying it around.
Plus, “concealed weapon?” if it’s un-concealed, chances are everyone’s gonna start running away from you when they see it. A gun sticking out of your belt isn’t the best way to say “Hello, what’s your name?”
68- Knowing many Eskimos/Alaska Natives, they actually prefer Eskimo. Contrary to popular belief Eskimo does not mean “Eater of Raw Meat” Its a wrong french pronunciation of some word in Inukittut.
I think that certain types of guns should be allowed for recreation and hunting. I agree that nobody has use for an automatic rifle or any high tech military weapons. Someone may need to defend themselves from an armed robber or something, but one shot with a rifle is the most they should need, if they do not know any other way of defending themself.
I think that there should be no war, and if everyone listened to what they were told in elementary school there wouldn’t be. Children are told to talk about their disagreements and try to work them out instead of fighting, why can’t that apply to countries too? I don’t think that any religion actually supports war. The way people interpret religious texts causes them to believe that the religion is telling them what they want to hear. If there is a higher power, it must be very disappointed in how misunderstood it has been.
the thing is, how do you talk something out between millions of people?
What are people’s opinions of the health care system? We’re doing an activism project in Sunday School where we’re trying to change the health care system. We’ll be arranging an 18-mile march around the Chicago area this spring.
our health care system is awful. we pay alot, have high infant and gnereal mortaliaty rates in comparison with other developed countries, and there are how many uninsured americans?
My friend Jay, for example, was walking home one night when he was jumped by two guys who broke his jaw. but he’s por and in college and uninsured and hasn’t got much family, and he couldn’t afford the doctor, and he walked around for a week with an untreated broken jaw before his friends were able to convince him to go to the emergency room.
additionally, the UNDHR guarantees everyone the right to health care, and I think that as part of the UN we should honor their declarations.
today was the day that 14 (i think) women were shot and killed at a colledge/university a while ago. i don’t remember the details. but i am so afraid that i will be shot. just so afraid that i’ll be killed at another person’s hand.
this is the only civil hot topics theard i’ve ever been on. the last one desoved at the last minute, the one before that having the hot topics theard was a hot topic, and so on.
67- I completely agree. I think that WWII could have been avoided. why would anyone want to create another? Even if it isn’t true that Bush wants that, I just think that the idea is really stupid. Why cause the death of thousands when it could be avoided?
World War Two could have been avoided? How?
PSA: It’s “thread.” We have enough of the things for you to learn to spell them correctly.
WWII, I think, was unavoidable, though its huge death toll perhaps was. Hitler was causing too much strife and death in the world to solve diplomatically, as he was kind of crazy. But turning a conflict with a despot into a war involving the entire world (except Africa and South America because they don’t count) wasn’t the best course of actions.
Wait, how does that sound familiar?
It could have been solved by KILLING HITLER right? I mean, he was the cause, wasn’t he?
I think the Russians, British, French, Americans, and a few Germans might have tried something along those lines.
80-Ah, no. You can’t just kill one person and avoid a whole world war. It dosn’t work that way. You’d have to kill a whole bunch more to avoid WWII, and it would be pretty much a bloodbath.
You would also have to kill George Bush II’s grandfather. Just a commment there.
78-i don’t know if it could have been completely avoided, but the effects could have been lessened if we had stopped hitler right away before he had the chance to start up the concentration camps and everything, and it might not have become a world war then. but then if we’d attacked germany before people knew what hitler was planning, germany’s allies might have gotten involved…it’s hard to say, really
82-now that’s just mean. Plus it would alter our whole passage through time! Great things like the…the…color television might never come into existence!
(80) No. Things would have been different, but killing Hitler wouldn’t have prevented war entirely.
Also, sometimes when you eliminate a tyrant, things don’t get any better. Look what happened to Iraq when we took out Saddam.
85- Good point about the Iraq/Saddam thing. When you eliminate the head of an opressive party, everything gets thrown into chaos. In Iraq, for example, when we got rid of Saddam, everybody in the general area started trying to get the US out of the picture. The principle being, if they can kill the guys who offed Saddam, then they’re the top dogs.
In the Hitler/Nazis thing, if we killed Hitler, there would be hell to pay from everyone supporting Hitler. Killing Hitler might have sparked an even bigger metaphorical explosion than WWII. The Germans would be way more motivated to come over here and kill us than they were, assuming they knew that we were the ones who killed him.
80- but hitler was an important german figure before the war. killing him would have been a disater in another sense. seeing as he was important, if someone were to kill him and that person was from another country it could open up a whole other war. so either way, no matter how you look at it i think that only bad news could have come from hitler. the only way disaster could have been avoided was if hitler hadn’t been elected.
82- just a note there about propper numerals/thingys afre names. there is no proper II after a persons name unless they’re royalty. it goes Kagy Awesome Sr., Kagy Awesome Jr., Kagy Awesome III, ect…… then if Kagy Sr.dies, Kagy Jr. becomes kagy Sr. and Kagy III becomes Kagy Jr.. so however the bushes did it. they did it WRONG! anyways…
what if hitlers father was killed?
If Hitler hadn’t been born, or if he had died in the First World War, then I think it’s likely that Nazi Germany, World War 2, and the Holocaust wouldn’t have unfolded the way they did. Speculating along those lines isn’t very useful, though, because it’s nothing that anyone alive at the time could have deliberately done anything about.
What they could have done differently was the way the Allies treated Germany after World War 1. I’m not a historian, but I think most experts agree that the terms of the Treaty of Versailles were bound to cause big problems one way or another. America’s decision to stay out of the League of Nations can’t have helped things, either.
88-That dosn’t work either. There were much more people than the Hitler family intent on killing millions of Jews. And Hitlar’s father wanted him to be an artist.
Think of how different the world would be if little Adolf had sticked to fingerpaintings?
Just let Hitler into art school! And, like Robert says, be nicer to Germany in general.
64- *cough* bean curd?
we were talking about yellow journalism in Social Studies the other day and our assignment was to blame a subway explosion on something. we blamed it on global warming (the AC overheated) but thats not the point. the point is that we can blame something on anything. journalists blamed the bombing of the USS Maine on the spanish. ironic, because it was during the new manifest destiny and we wanted Puerto Rico and Cuba for ourselves already.
Ironic because we wanted the oil Iraq could give us so we tack 9/11 on them. I know that we found hard evidence later but how could reporters know so early that it was terrorists? Yellow journalism caused the Spanish American War and Operation Desert Storm. see the trend?
90-you’re absolutely right. hitler and a bunch of other german bigshots were sick of being treated as a defeated little brother. their toes were being stepped on and so they wanted to do something about it. i think that germany should be given a lot of credit. after surviving two world wars, and after being thought of as an “evil” superpower, and after their entire economy basically collapsed, they recovered. it was seen as the “German Miracle”. they offered jobs to anyone and everyone in any line of work, and so in about ten years, Germany was back on its feet and today has one of the most stable economies ever. *applause*
gun control? who would argue about gun control?! why not go to the source of the problems-GUNS! y’know that millions of dollars are spent on designing weapons each year? y’know what these weapons are used for? WAR! why? why not use all our supreme intelligence and money and make good stuff? like new ways to cure diseases and all that junk. the largest drive to cure a disese in the US history was when they started the march of dimes to raise money for the cure of the dread disease polio. and they did it. we can do it again!
cliff eagle-you are from MA? so am i. wow, two MBers from the same state! shweet.
i am for the death penalty. i will explain later. i have got to have supper now. See y’all later.
still against the death penalty
Hi folks! Sorry, I am not responding to other posts right now, but I have to say I noticed a HT subject on the Romance thread.
A few things:
Do you realize it was not just a casual comment to the person who killed herself, but another girl and her mother creating a LIE, i. e. fake boy pretending to like her for a while and then saying terrible things to her, with the object to see what she would do when insulted, on the spare chance the girl who created the boy would want to be mean to her if she became friends. All of that effort, and most important ABSOLUTE LYING and a mean TRICK just in case you wanted to be mean to her later! What a complete lack of good sense and backbone, I mean, are you so stupid you couldn’t handle a social situation without having complete prior warning of what the person might do? Are you willing to lie and trick someone to do so? If the girl ever found out, what would you do in that situation?
It was a comletely lame story, its just some kids nowadays not being able to take a simple insult without getting upset. Everyone is the greatest, everyone on any sports team gets a trophy each year, and everyone must have ten zillion friends and be the most famous person on the planet. Or they go shooting you in the mall. The world shall now self destruct in five seconds.

Red-tailed HAWK
HAWK is right. According to the news stories I’ve read, it wasn’t just a little flaming; it was an elaborate hoax designed to humiliate the girl, and apparently an adult was involved (or at least complicit). Even if “something else was going on” to make the girl emotionally fragile beforehand, I don’t think that fact (if it is a fact) exonerates the people who pushed her over the edge.
93- YES! go sox.
I just wanted to let the GAPA’s know in advance, that I’ll be turning 18 as of January 16th. To other bloggers, please note that is almost certain that I won’t be present on my birthday, but I’ll come on as soon as I get a chance.
Cedar: 18 WHOA WHATS UP WITH THAT I HAD NO IDEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please do stay, please do, we have so many older teen bloggers, if they all disappear at 18 the blog will surely slow down.
96-It is really a terrible story all around.
 ¡|°\ø∂—†å¡∫ø∂ ∫–∫ Å \./\./ ∫
Never fear: the blog won’t shun you just because you’re turning old and wrinkly. In fact, we no longer require established MBers to give up their aliases (though newcomers over 17 must blog under their real names, first and last). All that changes is that the “Who’s Here” list adds a special symbol to mark your elderly status.
Of course, we don’t expect to hold on to everybody forever. The world is big, and time is limited. At some point, you’re going to want to stop talking about world domination and start dominating. But we hope you’ll still stop by from time to time. Once a Muser, always a Muser, as far as we’re concerned.
71- I totally agree about the war thing!!!!
95- do you remember the selfesteem issue of muse? the self esteem game! where everybody wins!!!!
95/96- what happened? please? i don’t get your news.
100- hehehe. yes, i spread the love weekly with my wearing of the “resistence is museless” shirts I own. *chuckles madly*
71, second paragraph- One of my beliefs is that you learn most things about getting along with other people in kindergarten:
Don’t push, don’t call names, be nice, be fair, be honest. And other stuff like that.
95- Wow, I should know a little more about the situation before I opened my mouth. I didn’t know it was like that.
98-I’m bad at birthdays and blogdays alike, so I’m gonna wish you a happy eighteenth right now before I forget and skip of to another thread! Happy eighteenth! *pies Cedar*
Robert’s right. There were two (or more) adults involved. It was pre-planned, they didn’t just get on because they felt like torturing a fourteen year old girl taking anti-depressants.
hem. uh.. does anyone want to tell me exactly what happened to the girl? i seriously dont get your news. i would like to know what happened.
104-Yeah, I heard about that. That was so sad! THey deserve to be punished!
Man, I haven’t been on MuseBlog in a while! How is everyone? Remember me, Donaldo the Supercoolio Awesome Nerd? Or Supergeek and the Deathly Hallows?
please see 105
105,107- I have not heard aout this intill that post. I don’t watch that much news, because I know that the “hot story” this week will begone the next like nothing ever happpened.
well, if anyone else would like to fill me in?
Hey, sorry for being away so long, guys (see December Random Thread for details), but thanks for all your 2nd Amendment help! Hey, good news, too…turns out that paper’s not due until the first week of January, w00t!!! Lol.
thanks for filling me in guys.
Kagy- The version of events I heard was that a girl and her mother created a fake Facebook account in order to see how another girl would react to her friends dumping her, so the daughter could see if she wanted to befriend the girl in real life or not. The boy they’d made up started out flirting with the girl and ended up insulting her and generally not being nice. And the girl killed herself.
and also other girls (not knowing about the plan) joined the attack.
I am afraid I shall have to keep my alias. It goes against my principles to reveal my real name on the Internet.
112- thankyou. that is a terrible shameful thing to do.
Corrections to post 112-
A girl who lived near Megan (the dead girl) wanted to see if Megan was saying bad stuff about her (I think it was a breakup, not sure) so her parents set up a MySpace featuring a kid named Josh who had the typical model looks (fake, of course) and he “befrended” her. He was nice for a while, and then he started insulting her all of a sudden and other peeps on MySpace joined in all the insulting. The last comment to her was “The world would be better w/out you” and she went and hung herself. And the peeps involved can’t be legally punished. But dang, I hope they rot in hell.
Does the government’s horrible budget cuts that steal much-needed money from the space program to pay for Certain Other Matters count as a hot topic?
Oh! This thread is dead!
Beavo, your correction doesn’t match what I had heard, but I haven’t heard anything in a while. But whatever exactly happened, it was terrible, and immature of the girl who insulted the other. I mean, if you are afraid of being insulted on a rare chance you want to leave the person you haven’t befriended yet, why is making something up and insulting the person themselves account for that? Are you the only one worth not ever being insulted? (that question wasn’t directed to anyone particular in the room )
Red-tailed HAWK
Let’s talk about the primaries!
119- sure!
i seriously don’t understand USA election systems. my math teacher was talking about them and he said “the US have a very strange confusing way of elections.” and then my mother said almost the same thing word for word at supper. it was weird.
Yes, the USA has a very weird election system…
I’m sort of rooting for Obama, but I’m not really sure anymore.
120-Lol…and if many of us here are right about the amount of corruption running through it…well, it’s about to get a lot more confusing.
121-Why are you wavering?
122-Because I’ve never been particularly sure from the start. I don’t really know any of the canidates’ positions on anything, I just like Obama.
123- He wants to cut funding for a mission to Mars. He better change that particular stance before November, or my parents will vote otherwise.
124-Definitely.
You know, maybe if we weren’t spending so much money on the war we’d BE on Mars by now. -.-
125.4~ Why do we need to go to Mars?
I think we should end the wars (duh), and instead of a space program, pledge 1 percent of the US budget toward ending world hunger and poverty. Maybe we can get to the Moon again & Mars once our own planet is fixed.
P.S.~ Do you mean people or robots? Both?
126-That’s a good point. Isn’t the budget something like 3 trillion dollars right now? That would be $30,000,000,000 or something like that towards ending world hunger, poverty, and stuff like that. And when you look at Hurricane Katrina victims, we don’t even do that much for people in our very own country.
And I meant people, but I was exaggerating quite a bit.
Going to Mars and starting back the whole Moon thing would be very important. We would have to invent new things to acomplish that, and the new things could be used in every day life. Velcro was invented for space travel, I think. And plus there would be a whole bunch of scientific discoveries.
Yes. I aggree with the whole stop-the-war bandwagon. This war is totally pointless not to mention harmful for, uh, like, EVERYBODY.
128~ No, velcro was invented by a Swiss inventor who went for a walk with his dog and found natural seed pods stick with the help of tiny hooks.
US government’s budget for 2008: $2,387 billion
MILITARY: 51% and $1,228 billion
NON-MILITARY: 49% and $1,159 billion
NASA’s budget: $16.5 billion
we spend over six times what another country does on our militatry
speaking of war related things. the canadian army is afganistan and there is this amazing radio show about it called afghanida (on CBC, it just ended) and i really want it on CD. if you ever have the chance to check it out do. it’s amazing.
anyone seen the movie In debt we trust good movie: watch it. it’s pretty important. go. watch it now!
124- Exactly.
126- Because in the long run, it is statistically inevitable that an asteroid the size of the one that killed the dinosaurs will hit Earth again. If we are still living only on Earth at that time, we will end up just as the dinosaurs did.
129- Thanks for those helpful figures. In case nobody did the Math, that shows that NASA’s budget is 1.34% of what the miltary’s is.
132-We should split our population. Send a third to Mars, a third to the moon, and keep a third on earth.
(Or just do what the people to in TerraFORMED)
133- That would be hard, but if we shipped the people out a little at a time, it could be done on the scale of decades.
134 – Well, first, of course, we would have to somehow make Mars suitable for human life. And I would venture to say that it might be better to spend billions of trillions of dollars on that after we fix most of the stuff on earth. Like, pollution, for example? It would be really bad to send a ton of humans up to Mars after not spending a ton of money fixing pollution and starvation and let them continue it on a whole nother planet.
135- Yes, I don’t think we will be teraforming or sending one third of the population to Mars anytime soon. I simply meant that it might be possible in the future. The establishment of a small lunar base in the 2020’s and a first landing in the 20’s or 30’s as is currently planned would cost much less than the Certain Other Matters the government spends money on.
We aren’t talking about Star Trek. This is completely doable at the given timescale. Of course, it is imperitive that the next president continue with these plans, which Obama is against doing.
For why off-world colonies are important, see post 132’s responce to Vendeval.
Did someone say terraforming?
*Ahem*
We will colonize Mars in 2043, after Earth is made uninhabitable by a terrible war. Diseases will take the lives of many, but we will survive nonetheless.
About the Myspace issue with the girl who committed suicide–there was an article (maybe in the New Yorker?) a week or or two ago that explained it pretty well, I thought, especially since the Hot Topics thread here (I’m such a lurker) was the first I’d heard of it. It’ such an awful thing…
I think that colonizing Mars would be a useful (and, frankly, “awesome”) thing to do, but that there are more pressing issues to deal with right now.
137 – That’s what I said.
Although, we’d better move fast, since the world is still ending in 2012.
139-Well, if we keep up with global warming, it might. Uh-oh.
139- Uh, no. Mayan time is cyclical, although the calendar may end, it starts again, similar to our cycles of centuries and millenia.
141 – Yeah, I know. The chances of the world ending in 2012 are about the same as it ending in any other year. But being a conspiracy theorist is fun.
I honestly think “life as we know it” is going to end one way or another in the next couple years/decades…I dunno.
142- exect, of course for year 4,000,000,000 years in the future.
Supposedly, “Global Warming”, or more appropriately named Climate Change “ends” in 2012, when Earth slowly starts turning towards the Ice Age. The halfway point, or something.
143 – We will likely be dead by then.
142- As long as you know the Conspiracy Theories are not real. I’ve debated some hard-core conspiracy types on other forums and it was scary. I think some of the might have been insane. One accused me of being a CIA agent. Can you believe that? I’m just a 14 year old girl in New York!
the solution to all earth problems: nuclear weapons!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (they will stop the population, the human pollution (not to mention the humans), and will drastically speed up global warming so noone has to argue about it!! see, north korea IS the way to go) by the way, i was kidding.
147 – Hmm, I don’t think that solution would be very popular. By the way, are you new? I don’t think I’ve seen you before.
Issac Newton predicted that the world would end in 2060 or something. I’ll check the exact date in a few minutes
147- Thank goodness you are joking.
148-He’s been around for like two years I think. Has anyone ever considered that someday we might actually run out off oil? It’s a scary thought.
151- we will never run out of oil. we just won’t be able to harvest it.
149 – 2060 or earlier. I had a friend who began a very amusing song parody about it after it became one of our class jokes in the history of science class I took at summer camp.
Jammin’s not new, Meow. She’s been here a while.
146-If I was a CIA agent, what would be a better cover than a fourteen year old girl living in NY?
147-Nuclear weapons, I don’t think so. Nuclear power, a definite maybe. Solution to Global Warming, and the “energy crisis”, at least.
By the time we “run out of oil” (that is, if we DO run out) we’ll hopefully have developed alternate energy sources that actually WORK. *coughnotlikeethanolcough*
154 – Ohhhh. Sorry Jammin.
152-It’s not like we have unlimited oil, and we’re not making our own. While it may take a very long time to do so, we could deplete our known sources. I vote for using hydrogen in cars…
156- I forget what it’s call, but after you get half way thru the source the rest of the oil is very tough to get out.
We don’t have unlimited oil, true. And plus, oil isn’t being made as fast as it should be. But it would take a very, very long time.
158 – Not at the rate we’re going. And besides, if it means drilling through national parks…
*hem, hem*
Guys? There’s a thread entirely devoted to GW…take it there, eh?
@_@
oil use is a part of GW…
161 – Yeah, and that’s currently what we’re talking about.
Besides, there aren’t many Hot Topics to talk about right now.
Besides politics.
And I get enough of that.
162- Is the Mars discussion dead or can we go back to that?
this is hilariouse. i was reading my post (131 i think) and i didn’t realize i had posted it and it was an OMG! I HAVE SOOO SEEN THAT MOVIE! moment.
lessseeeee hot topics to discuss…….. what do you guys think about gay marrige? should it be legal? (it isn’t down where you are is it?) it’s legal up here anyhow and i support it.
164- I will take that as a “Yes” to my last question.
164- Gay marriage is illegal, but civil union, or marriage for lesser folk as the repubeos prolly call it, is.
Obama for pres! The CA primary was 2nite, and he’s gonna win! l’ve sorta been campaigning for him, convinicing people to vote for him. CA’s a big state, and a win here could carry him to a win.
166- If he wasn’t so anti-space, I would vote for him.
i don’t know much about anything/one involving the US elections but to me Obama is more of a people person than hilary clinton because….. i don’t know i forgot what i was saying. anyways it doesn’t matter hugely to me who wins.
question what do you think about the war in iraq? do you support it? I don’t fully understand most of what is going on in the US of A which makes me feel very foolish. so that’s why i’m asking questions.
168- don’t worry! nobody does!
169 – Yup. Nobody exactly understands it, even those of us that live in the USA. It’s very confusing…
You don’t have to, really. The USA is just one country. It’s important to know a reasonable amount about all the important countries, but you don’t have to go into extreme depth about the situation of any specific one if you don’t want to.
146 what I don’t under stand is why the government should have any say in weather a gay can marry or not. Yes the people in power are homophobic but they (should be at least) a bit reasonable there arguments comes down to mummy I’m scared cause their deferent. Sound reasonable?l ?
not 146 it’s 164 *blush*(at least I dident say 461 ). Oh and HILARY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! is going to win *huuumf!*
Oooooh yay! Gay marriage! I mean, yay as a topic. I think it should totally be legal everywhere because nobody has any right to interfere with the personal and romantic affairs of other people. Well, maybe in some special cases where it could harm people, but how could gay marriage possibly harm anybody??? *rants at stupids*
And for politics. I want Obama to win. I think he would be a better leader than Clinton, because she’s too…political. And McCain is just…ugh. He wants to take tax money and not use it for us and use it for troops in Iraq. Why would we vote for somebody who doesn’t spend our money to help us?
172- could you not say ‘a gay’? it sounds sort of if you’re saying ‘a potato’. Sorry. I’m weird. Just ignore me. and yes, people are scared of the differences and the unknowns.
On marriage in general. Now tell me when marriage became something the state ran? Wasn’t there a separation of church and state? isn’t marriage something religious? shouldn’t all couples, gay or straight, receive civil unions from the state and marriages from their synagogue, church, temple, mosque etc?
175- Yeah, that’s been puzzling me too. Marriage is a ceremony that is usually, at least partly, religious or ideological. It doesn’t seem right that the law could forbid it under certain circumstances when the separation of church and state is one of the fundamental principles of American government.
I think we’re all in agreement, at least so far, that the government banning gay marriage makes no legal or any other kind of sense.
Take a look at this: It’s scary.

YUMA, Arizona (Reuters) – Most plans to gain control of the porous U.S.-Mexico border focus on some combination of fence. But this city in far west Arizona is looking to build a moat.
Faced with high-levels of crime and illegal immigration, authorities in Yuma are reaching back to a technique as old as a medieval castle to dig out a “security channel” on a crime-ridden stretch of the border and fill it with water.
“The moats that I’ve seen circled the castle and allowed you to protect yourself, and that’s kind of what we’re looking at here,” said Yuma County Sheriff Ralph Ogden, who is backing the project.
Curbing illegal immigration and securing the nearly 2,000 mile (3,200-kilometre) southwestern border are hot topics in this U.S. election year. Washington has pledged to complete 670 miles of new barriers by the close of 2008, despite resistance from landowners and environmentalists.
The proposal seeks to restore a stretch of the West’s greatest waterway, the Colorado River, which has been largely sucked dry by demand from farms and sprawling subdivisions springing up across the parched southwest and in neighboring California.
The plan to revive the river, which drains from the Rocky Mountains through the Grand Canyon and runs for 23 miles (37 kilometers) along the border near Yuma, seeks to create a broad water barrier while also restoring a fragile wetland environment that once thrived in the area.
“What you are building is a moat, but it’s bringing the life and the wildlife back,” said Ogden, an Old West lawman with a handlebar mustache, explaining how the project differs from other plans to fix the border.
“It’s innovative thinking. It doesn’t take much brainpower to build a 12-foot high fence around something, but this is unique.”
RECLAIMING NO-MAN’S-LAND
The project is starting with a desolate 450-acre patch of scrub and thickets known as Hunter’s Hole, a once-thriving wetland on the border a few miles southwest of Yuma that has become a haven for drug smugglers and illegal immigrants crossing from Mexico and a headache for local law enforcement.
“It’s in the United States, but it’s become a no-man’s-land, an area where bodies were dumped, where people and drugs were smuggled over the border,” said Ogden, whose deputies share much of the responsibility for tackling border-related crime with federal police.
Engineers plan to dig a “security channel” up to 10-feet (3 meters) deep and 60 feet wide through the problem area, which lies a short way inside the border. The dirt removed would be used to create a levee along the outside to give U.S. Border Patrol agents an elevated patrol road overlooking the line.
The area would also be replanted with native sedges and rushes to provide habitat for threatened local species such as the Yuma Clapper Rail, a secretive marsh bird. Backers say it would also provide a space for residents of Yuma, a farming town popular with winter visitors, to walk and fish.
The organization behind the project would like to extend it the entire course of the Colorado River, which marks the U.S.-Mexico border, in what it sees as an environmental recovery program that complements the Border Patrol’s task.
“It doesn’t replace the Border Patrol’s efforts, it supplements them. At the same time you are restoring habitat in a secure environment and creating a place to relax,” said Charles Flynn, the executive director of the Yuma Crossing National Heritage Area Corporation.
PROMOTING SECURITY AND FRIENDSHIP
Curbing illegal immigration and securing the border are issues that frequently confront both presumptive Republican Party nominee Sen. John McCain and Democratic rivals Senators Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, who are campaigning to be their party’s pick for the November election.
The U.S. government has sought remedies including boosting police numbers, adding surveillance technologies, and, controversially, constructing hundreds of miles of vehicle and pedestrian barriers along the international boundary, which has drawn fierce opposition from some quarters.
More than a hundred border landowners in south Texas have resisted a government bid for access to their lands to build new fencing, which they see as a meddlesome and unwelcome intrusion, while environmentalists say fences may sever key wildlife corridors for animals including the jaguar.
The planned revival of the Colorado River, where it carves through desert peppered with fertile farmland, is something of a standout.
It has won the backing of the federal Bureau of Land Management, which owns the land; the Bureau of Reclamation, which has provided a grant to drill wells and pump groundwater, and a letter of support from the Border Patrol. Also on board are Yuma City Council and local residents including the Cocopah Indian tribe, who have farmed the river’s flood plains for centuries.
Perhaps more surprisingly, it has also won support across the boundary in Mexico, where plans to build border fences are eyed with suspicion. Local environmentalists there have embraced the project and plan to work in tandem to restore the wetlands on the Mexican side.
“Instead of putting up walls and promoting division, we can promote security and friendship,” said Osvel Hinojosa, the director of Pro-Natura, an environmental group in northwest Mexico, of the proposal.
“Moreover, instead of damaging the environment, we can improve it.”

A while back makeup was discussed. Not many people understood my point of view, and it turned into a bit of a hot topic. So under the safety of this thread, I will happily listen to anyone’s point of view.
Red-tailed HAWK
179- Why? We don’t need to dig up this topic again. You’ve already seen our opinions of the topic. You already know how the discussion is going to go. You also know that your opinions annoy several people on the blog. The topic has been discussed, it is dead, and it should be forgotten. The hatchet has been buried and we don’t need to dig it up again.
179- Why is makeup even a point of contention? People who want to wear, wear it. People who don’t, don’t. People who don’t care, wear it when the feel like it. Simple. If one doesn’t like seeing other people wear it, then one must simply deal with that as best they can, because other people have a right to do as they wish with their own face.
P.S. By “one” I really didn’t mean anyone on the blog. I was just dealing with the only part of makeup that could be controversial.
179- By the way, we did understand your point of view. What happened was that since some people didn’t agree with you, you assumed that they were misinterpreting what you said. And it’s not the first or last time that that has happened…
179- I would wear make-up, but on the rare occasions that I do, kids at school keep saying stuff like, “Wow. Pretty.” Which annoys me. They make it sound like I’m a complete pile of mud when I don’t wear it. And then my stepfather feels that he needs to have a long, and I mean long, talk about my selfesteem and the feminist movement. Plus, I have cousins that are 5 and 3 years tounger than me, that is, ten and twelve, and they cannot understand why a fifteen year old can wear whatever makeup she wants, but a ten year old can’t! TEN! TEN! And then since the ten year old and twelve year olds’ parents scold them while making it clear that they don’t have a problem with me, it makes me feel uncomfortable.
Vixen-As I recall, you have expressed your strong opinions about women’s rights. I must personally say I agree and wish more people would.
La Mort, I believe there is a simple misunderstanding here that can be solved by a simple comment: I don’t mind if you want to do what you want to do, whatever. I’m just expressing my opinions and views. I never said you had to take them, did I? No, that would be arrogant of me. It seems to me you want to find a problem with me, and so you accuse me of forcing my opinions on you. I’m really not, I’m just strongly showing my beliefs. Other people do this too, but somehow people like to target me as someone doing something more. I’m doing nothing more than expressing my views, and I will continue to do so. You don’t have to change yourself because of what I think, and when you get upset at my views it almost seems like you want to share common views. Not that you mean to, but it seems that way, and I want you to know I’m not trying to make you do anything. I hope that made sense!
Alice, as I said above, I have no intentions of disrupting personal choices here. What I am doing gets people upset, though, because it is mostly unheard-of..
What I dislike about makeup is the word itself even. Makeup. Making up for problems in somebody. And because mostly only girls wear makeup… If you’re following this, well… It directly implies only girls have problems, see! Oh, no, there’s nothing wrong with how any boy in the world looks, no. But EVERY girl in the world is an ugly pig (or a pile of mud as Vixen says) and so must wear gallons of makeup to solve this “problem.” I am very offended by this, and I’m not even a girl!!!
This is not about your personal choice to wear makeup for whatever reason. This is about society’s way of forcing girls to wear this stuff when there is absolutely nothing wrong with them. Seriously. Why should girls have to “perfect” their faces while boys don’t? What makes boys better so they don’t have to “make up” for their physical “problems?” Do you actually believe girls have all of the physical problems while boys are angels? NO is my answer.
Also, what does this say about boys? Oh, it’s fine for girls to have to fall in love with boys who “look bad” because they don’t wear makeup, but boys? No, nonono, see they’re more important so they get to fall in love with girls who have coated themselves in this fake junk. This stuff that supposedly makes up for these “defects” that all girls are plagued with. Seriously, do you feel you have some problem and boys are angels?
And, are boys supposed to base their relationship choices upon which girls have made up for these “problems” with makeup? I don’t mean to go off on a different track here, but it’s still related. Do you want boys to be as superficial as to only look at looks? Not personality or common interests or true love or really caring about the person or having a true friendship? Looks?! LOOKS?!?!?!?
Seriously, this is bad!
And don’t take this wrong again, I never said you had to listen to what I had to say. I’m just saying it. It’s my opinion, I have a right to express it, just like you have your right to express your side of the issue. I just feel very strongly about this issue.
Are there any girls out there who also feel this way? Vixen, do you agree with me?? Are there any girls out there who appreciate that there is one caring boy who is actually aware of how unfortunate this thing is? Are there any boys who are understanding me or feeling this way? Because it seems awfully lonely out here *Shivers*
Red-tailed HAWK
*deep breath*
Okay, I understood most of what you were saying to me, except for the second-to-last sentence. Care to explain what that meant?
185- Oh, of course I’m a feminist, I just don’t need my step father telling me how a feminist should behave!!
Beavo, you don’t know how long I’ve waited for a boy to actually understand… and agree with… and …. yeah. You said it. I agree with you. Thanks.
La Mort-Well I’m glad I’m making some sense The second-to-last sentence is where I’m asking if any other boys agree with me and feel the same ways. In my long post I did not mean to say all boys are terrible, as it may have seemed. I was defending girls… And thank you for understanding, again…
Vixen, I’m not Beavo, I’m RtH But I’m glad you understand. And I didn’t mean to criticize you about the step father part, I meant that part of my post as a way of letting you know I feel the same way.
Red-tailed HAWK
188- Sorry. It’s been a really crappy day. And it just keeps going on. and on. and on. and on. I know you’re RtH. I was thinking of you as RtH, but I wrote Beavo. Sorry.
188- No, not the second-to-last sentence in your post, the second-to-last sentence in the part directed at me: “You don’t have to change yourself because of what I think, and when you get upset at my views it almost seems like you want to share common views.”
188- I’m not entirely sure, but I think La Mort might have meant the second-to-last sentence in the second paragraph.
I have one comment: It’s sort of fun to wear makeup (don’t kill me!). Not a lot, but to occasionally put on makeup and look at yourself in the mirror is kinda fun. It’s like a whole different person!
I really don’t understand why girls need makeup. It must be part of the whole thing. like buying Very expensive dresses, while a cheaper one is just as nice, to my eyes.
192- Haha. Well, I used to get clothes from the clothing bank (totally free, and a way to get rid of the clothes you don’t want anymore), so clearly I am not of that school of thought.
192- I think that they can be grouped together, but they can also be different. For example, I drool daily over valentino dresses, but I get the shirt that’s cheapest. Of course, cheap isn’t exactly the only priority, but…
Clothes are often more expensive than other simular looking clothes because they belong to a brand. Some girls like brand items because they think that it’s cool to show off their money, style, and their knowledge of brands. I, among some minority girls, love designers because designers are artists. Some designers are mnore concerned about making money *coughdolcecoughandgabanacough* and some are concerned about making art *coughvalentinocough*.
Makeup is a way of hiding any imperfections (which is stuppid) on your face, and that’s what some girls use it as. Others use it to express a style, a way of looking, or because they just like how it looks, but are comfortable in their own skin. They aren’t concerned about others not liking them because of their apearance.
Does that clear anything up, tMfA?
194- a bit. and why do you keep calling me tMfA? I’m TMFA!
good points, but some girls do buy designers to impress boys. why? Boys, as all girls should know, don’t know these things.
195- Sorry. “the” and “for” are not normally capitalized in titles.
*laughs out loud* That’s raelly encouraging. Well, let me tell you and any boys out there that Valentino is a great designer.
Well, it’s taught to the girls. One of the worst insults (ok, not one of the worst, but an insult) a girl can get is being told that she looks “cheap”. This fear of being rejected because of not living a materialistic society is scary. It’s terrifying. And it’s deeply engrained in our society.
185 – I do agree with you, and I am a girl. I only wear makeup in theatrical performances and do so reluctantly. I am probably the only girl in my grade who does not wear makeup. I feel that makeup is a way to hide minor flaws in the way you look, and that most of the time people look worse in makeup. I agree that the idea that girls should wear makeup is a huge insult!
Wow! I feel sorry for all of the girls who are afraid of that.
La Mort, I don’t quite understand this myself. All I’m trying to say is, I in no way mean to make anyone do anything. So when you respond seemingly angry that I have a view, it somehow, strangely, seems you are personally saddened that I have this view. It’s very odd; it truly is a confusing situation. But it does seem that no matter what the subject, my views on it always upset you like no one else’s do.
I don’t know why this is. Because I don’t try to make people change because of what I’m saying, I really don’t know why anyone would get upset in any way, but it is troubling. You could be a nice friend if it weren’t for our frequent arguments…
Vixen-No problem, I’d rather have you accidentally call me another blogger than somebody chop up my real name in some terrible fashion, which sometimes happens…
So does anybody else have another comment on my post? I hope it made sense.
TMFA- I agree, most boys aren’t paying attention and wouldn’t have a clue anyway about what somebody is wearing. I mean, I notice what somebody is wearing, but the brand… Whatever!
Red-tailed HAWK
(195) My theory has long been that the girls (and adult women) who “dress to impress” do so more to impress other girls. That goes for make-up, too.
200- Oooh. I understand. *big revelation*
199- It’s confusing for me, too. I used to think of you as a great person, but lately (last couple of months) I have started to find you very irritating. And, in case you hadn’t noticed, I tend to speak my mind when I’m annoyed at somebody or something.
Okay, question for everybody: Has R-tH changed dramatically in the past couple months, or is it me that’s changed?
202- I haven’t seen a huge change. He does speak his mind more, but that’s all I’ve noticed.
I usually just wear a T-shirt and long pants or shorts. No jeans. No makeup. No earrings. I’m a simplistic, kind of person.
I’m okay with makeup, really. Sometimes (don’t kill me!) make-up makes a girl look more pretty, or sophisticated. I’m not saying that you should make your decisions about love or self-esteem on makeup, but it does look good when used right. I know some people who have half their weight in makeup, and look fine, while others look like zombies. And some girls wear a little dab of foundation, and look great too. I don’t care whether you wear it or not, but I’m not going to be against it because it says that girls are “ugly pigs”. If you wa
oh, god, a clothing related discussion.
i live for these.
192- girls wear makeup for different reason. i wear it because i like colors and painting on my face for fun, and because i dislike my skin. many girls wear it to cover up things they find “gross” or “bad” about their skin, some wear it because they always have, some wear it because their mom wants them to (or friends, sister…), and some wear it because they just like how they look with it.
as for the dresses, buying things depends on what you can afford. if someone works very hard and makes a lot of money, i don’t see anything wrong in buying more expensive items so they are good quality and therefore last well and when you wear them it communicates to people on a first impression that you are a pulled together person. if someone doesnt do anything for the money they spend, that’s more wasteful. you buy what you can for your situation, financially and in life. and i have seen a lot of clothes, so you start to see the biggg differences in more expensive and cheaper clothing.
194- A FELLOW MUSER WHO LIKES FASHION???? *dies*
and i totally agree with everything you’re saying.
it’s not always the brands though to a point it is the workmanship, the brands are there for that extra 30% of the price they slap on there (or in more extravangant pieces its more like 80%)
195- those girls must have no brain.
most females do it to make themselves feel better by thinking that other women around them will think theyre richer or cooler because of their clothing.
Here’s something that I’m having trouble with:
Every Olympics, I try to watch something every day. But I don’t want to show support for China’s abuses of human rights. Should I not watch anything, or just the opening and closing ceremonies, or what?
Why has everyone been talking about makeup for a month? Is it because proms are approaching? I think we need a new thread with a topic on which more people have a strong viewpoint. As for the Olympics (207), I am planning on watching the closing ceremony and whichever daily things I feel like. Even if the US won’t boycott the opening ceremonies, I will.
I’m at school, reasearching the death penalty for a debate. Any ideas? We’re doing cons, of course.
I reaserched the previous posts (sorry for the double, BTW) and I couldn’t find the promised posts from Jammin J and somebody else who are supporters of the death penalty.
I personally think that the death penalty and the war in Iraq are minor issues compared to the topic we SHOULD be discussing on this thread: Which is better, Survivorman or Man Vs. Wild?
Personally, I think Man Vs. Wild is better, but my bro and dad disagree, especially my brother. Many say Survivorman is better because he doesn’t have cameramen, like Man Vs. Wild’s Bear Grilles does(is that how u spell his last name?). But I think that the reason Bear has cameramen is so he can focus on his job better and do a better job teaching us. In response, many Survivorman fans say to me that Bear just fakes everything and when the cameras r off, Bear sips tea like a girl with his camera crew If he does, then go ahead and sue him! I won’t argue with u. The thing is, there is no proof, so how can you prove it?
Okay, now that we’re done with the death penalty essay (THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP YOU GUYS ) we’re doing a counter arcgument saying that the government shouldn’t devote any more money to the environment. HELP!
I am requiring some help with homeschooling for debate. I think it is splendid.
Wait, are you FOR or AGAINST the government donating more money to the environment?
(212, 213) Do you mean “more money per year than it spends now” (as opposed to continuing or decreasing current levels) or “any more money, ever” (i.e., the government should zero out its environmental budget and get out of the environment business)?
214 – I’m not quite sure. It’s his topic.
215-Help with homeschooling for debate? Clarify, por favor…?
216 – Never mind. My debate is tomorrow.
217-Well, can I still help?
218 – Sure. I’m having trouble writing my bibliography. I put the authors’ names on my notecards, but I’m having trouble seeking out the original articles, as I misplaced every… single… one… of my “Citing Sources” sheet.
Also, do you know how to effectively prepare for a debate? After all, you never really know what to expect.
Politics:
Two eagles, silver and gold, fitght over a roosting cliff,
while they destroy each other, a third takes it.
The mighty shah shall be piqued,
and lead a mighty tower to its fall.
1. poor pedophiles, hated for their sexual preference, although perhaps they deserve it.
I wish people (not just in MB, but in the whole world) would stop generalizing about everything. For instance, many people think, “Pedophile=Priest.” They only hate priests because they hate Catholicism, and therefore spread any little thing bad about the Church. Also, people need to stop calling ministers of other Christian denominations “priests.” It, again, tries to make the Church look bad. Example: Reverend Wright. Why does the world hate the Church?
By the way, Intercessors of the Lamb=Charismatic Pentecostals/Evangelicals, not Catholic Priests.
I posted this on the other Blog, but this Blog came back soon after and everyone forgot about it.

I would normally post something like this on the hot topics thread, but as we have no hot topics thread on this blog, I’ll post it here:
RANDOM POLITICAL RANT
I noticed that the majority of the people on the blog seemed to be leaning towards Obama. I have three main reasons why I think we shouldn’t vote for him: 1) Like most democrats, he wants the government to help out all the poor people and tax all the rich people. If he does, then the rich people will not want to work as hard. Poor people tend to work for rich people, and the poor people will lose their jobs when the rich people slack off. 2) Also like most democrats, Obama wants cheap and affordable healthcare. Well, how will all the underpaid doctors feel about that? Yes, everyone will get healthcare, but it will be low-quality lousy healthcare. 3) Obama isn’t experienced in foreign negotiations. For example, he wants to sit and peacefully negotiate with the Al Quada (or however you spell that). These are people who want to kill all of us! They hate us! They’re fanatics! Peace talks won’t help! Jeez!
I don’t expect anyone to agree with anything I just said. I just needed to get that out of my system.
117. Alice | May 28, 2008 at 8:31 pm
116- But Hillary wants to make us ALL BUY HEALTH INSURANCE. I sincerely doubt we’ll be able to afford anything else after health insurance.
118. The Bookworm & Lurline (10 Wung Points and 2 B-Day Points! And Custodian of the Rooftop Garden!) | May 28, 2008 at 8:47 pm
117-She wants free health insurance!
116, 117- We don’t have to vote for Hillary or Obama. What about the other guy? McCain? Have you even considered him? I mean, nobody likes him, I don’t even like him, but he ‘s better then the other candidates. In my opinion, anyway.
I’m for Kokopelli. That’s all I have to say on the matter.
223-But he supports the war in Iraq. The Iraq war is pointless. All it has done is create more havoc in Iraq, kill American Troops, kill Iraqi civilians and troops, waste our money, and make other countries hate us. He would continue it for 3-8 more years. We need it over now! Also, Al-Queda have different beliefs than us, but aren’t maniacs any more than some Fundamentalist Christians or Orthodox Jews are. They have valid opinions. Also, we’ve killed as many innocent Iraqis as the amount of innocent Americans they killed. We’re as bad as Al-Queda!
225- We’re as bad as Al-Queda?!? Hey, they try to kill innocent people! We don’t mean to kill the innocent people in Iraq! Yes, I believe we shouldn’t have invaded Iraq, but we’re not as bad as they are. If we pulled away our troops, there would still be a lot of havoc in Iraq.
And another thing: you don’t see Fundamentalist Christians or Orthodox Jews hijacking planes and killing thousands of innocent people! They’re not as bad as some of the terrorists!
223 – I actually read a Time article about the candidate’s policies, and it only cemented my belief that Obama rocks.
226-But Congress put our money to Iraq, instead of helping homeless Americans, plenty of whom died! Is accidently killing people OK? Also, remember the Crusades. The Christians and Jews started the fights. They killed many innocent people! ((New Thread?))
(228) As I recall, Crusaders massacred European Jews on the way to the Holy Land and fought the local Jews once they got there. They certainly were not allies.
229-Sorry Robert! My point was that the Christians started the Crusades. I’m just very sleepy right now…
A few things I want to say:
Don’t talk about politics if you are just regurgitating things your parents say. Meaning do the research yourself, draw your own conclusions. I don’t think that’s a problem as much here since Musebloggers are a literate bunch with the ability for independent thought, but be careful.
222) It’s the things he was saying, not the fact that he was a religious man. I find it ridiculous that the topic is even being brought up in the campaign though.
Since we’re done in AP, we’ve been watching various short programs on more modern things. One was called the “Roots of 9/11” and there were interesting things said.
One was the concept of “poverty of dignity”. What was it the reporter quoted, that the youth “so look up to” the United States, want to study there and what not, but feel “so looked down upon”
They make mention of the fact that America is a 300 year old civilization while the majority of Middle Eastern societies have been around as long as any other. A point made (my view below) was that things like 9/11 happen in their countries everyday, and that the only difference is that America didn’t expect it to the degree they do.
The saddest of all things was the misinformation the papers and other media sources provide to the public. Things like, we knew about 9/11 and 4,000 Jews were called and told not to go to work? That actually it was the US who did this to themselves, and other misinformation and blatant lies. But there is no other source to refute it, and there is misinformation here as well, isn’t there? (Not as severe I imagine, but in any case)
It’s very naive I suppose, but there is…so little violence to me that can be justified. Saying “you did x so I’ll do y” is an outdated system of justice that accomplishes nothing. So no I don’t accept any kind of assertion about 9/11 other than it was a tragedy of humanity.
If we want to solve our problems though, we need to understand each other…the US is not innocent of all crimes, the Middle East is no innocent of all crimes, but if both sides believe so wholly they fight for a just and right cause then in the end we’ll just all kill each other completely. Something other than military strategy has to change. One thing my teacher mentioned was th the Middle East never had something like the Reformation in Europe…How can they solve internal problems while fighting externally as well?
sorry it’s so long…I have more to say but I suppose I’ll stop here.
Axa,
Just for clarification, when you say
The saddest of all things was the misinformation the papers and other media sources provide to the public.
you’re referring to Middle Eastern newspapers, radio, TV, etc., aren’t you?
228-
1. As I said before, I don’t agree with the invasion in Iraq, but I do believe we should have went into Afganistan. When 9-11 happened, what was the president supposed to do? Say, “I don’t want to put our money into fighting the terrorists that killed hundreds of innocent people because we need it to help out the homeless”? It was necessary to go into Afganistan. But yes, it is a waste to fight Iraq. Maybe we should just pull out and watch everyone in the middle east kill each other off.
2. Okay, what do Christians have to do with this anyway? It seems that everyone is always talking about how bad and violent the Christians were in the Crusades. The Crusades ended hundreds of years ago! Christians are better now!
3. Slightly irrelavent, but something I just wanted to say: The U.S., for all of it’s problems, is still the most healthy, wealthy, and helpful nation in the world. However, that is also it’s fault. Whenever some huge disaster strikes, the U.S. is literally obliged to help out, while other countries hardly lift a finger. Whenever it makes a mistake, everyone else makes a big deal out of it, while their own countries have problems ten times as worse. The U.S. is not that bad, compared to what other countries are like.
231- I have looked at this myself and I am not regurgitating things my parents say. What makes you think I’m doing that? The fact that I’m a Christian?
1. The U.S. makes mistakes, hides information, and lies. But we are not as bad as the Middle East, or most other countries in general.
2. The “Roots of 9/11″ may have given as much misinformation as the government. You can’t trust anything these days, politics always tangle the truth.
3. Religion is the problem. The terrorists hate our guts because they believe that is the honorable thing to do. Sending our troops back won’t change anything. They’ll always be fighting each other, fighting Israel, and fighting the U.S.
232) yeah I should clarify…it sounds like there’s a lot of stuff on the internet too that is misleading. I didn’t mean to sound like such a bigot, which is how that comes off once I read it again. Of course there are also reliable sources I’m sure, but that the misinformation that surface are so great is what is awful. That’s really what I meant.
234) ??? I didn’t say anything about you being Christian…I”m sorry if it seems like I was making an insinuation like that, cause that’s not what I meant. Really it’s more of a reaction by me to 90% of people at school who are that way, but like I said Musebloggers are generally very well informed.
Yes that’s definitely true (your second point), but I still think some of the things said are worth thinking about. It’s like, you need to know why something happened so you can divert it should it happen again. Certainly you never know the reliability of something but it’s the mindset of trying to understand how to prevent it that matters.
For your third point, do you mean pulling out won’t change anything? If so I agree there needs to be some kind of resolution before we leave. If I missed what you were saying please correct me.
(235, 232) I don’t think it’s bigoted to say that some countries have more reliable news media than others. In large parts of the world, “freedom of the press” doesn’t exist in any meaningful sense.
I’m not fully understanding this topic. *lurks*
I feel we really need to pull out now and cope with our losses. True, Iraq is in disarray. We can’t do much to stop that. More Iraqis and Americans die every day in Iraq, and it’s futile. Iraq is in a civil war. Having foreign troops in the middle of it doesn’t help. We need to withdraw our troops, admit that we lost, and leave Iraq to deal with itself. We can’t help this way. Also, we need to put our money in helping ourselves, the Americans. Why are we trying to help penniless Iraqis when there are penniless Americans here? We need to solve our inner problems before we can solve other people’s problems. We are in a economic resession, and that’s major! We need to stop problems here before we even attempt to solve other people’s problems! Iraq is not our responsibility, Iraq is the Iraqis responsibility! America is our responsibility! We need to first make sure every American has enough, before we try to help others! (P.S. This is all my ideas, not my parents. They think differently!)
238- Most certainly, we should pull our troops back. But something you should just think about–the people of Iraq are having it ten times worse than any Americans. Yes, we should just be taking care of ourselves, but just remember that we are still on the top on the economic ladder. Iraq is Iraq’s responsibility? The Iraq government couldn’t care any less about what happens to the people. No matter what happens to us Americans, believe me, the people of Iraq have it worse.
235- In my third point, I meant that if we pulled out our troops, there would be no less chaos (probably more, actually) in Iraq, and the terrorists would still hate us.
239-Exactly. I do agree. We are on top, economically. However, have we helped out at all in Iraq? No! If anything, things are worse. Have affairs here gotten better? No! We need to help ourselves before we help others, or we’re hypocrites! It’s like the top enviromentalists telling people to stop flying on airplanes and then flying to Mali!
240) Ah, I see, I agree with that as well anyway. It’s what makes it such a frustrating situation in my opinion.
I don’t believe in America being the world’s police and going all over democratizing (this is apparently a word? haha) various countries, but in any case one has a responsibility to finish in some manner what’s been started.
Several things annoy me about the US’ decision to intervene in Iraq:
Reliable intelligence categorically stating that there were no weapons of mass destruction was available to the Bush administration. It nonetheless tried to swindle suppourt for an essentially oil-based war by propaganda-izing around that (1) there were terrorists (of the sort who attacked the World Trade Center) in Iraq (2) That there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. Throughout history, there have been countless examples of equally ruthless dictators as Sadam Hussein. The US certaintly hasn’t sprung to the defense of any of the opressed as rapidly in the past (*coughBosniacough*), but, because of the oil in Iraq, the admin totally impetuously launched a war!
Besides, even if the admin. had no ulterior motive save helping the Kurds, is it worth launching a nation into turmoil in order to depose a dictator?
242-Why should one finish what one starts? If one promises someone else they will jump off a cliff, and they get a running start, and then decide to stop, should they “finish what they started”?
244) You’re missing my point. I’m not defending the war I’m saying it is a nation’s responsibility to own up to their actions as it were, and take the best course of action. If there come a time that staying is far far worse than leaving, then that is how you accomplish that. You may say the time is now, and honestly I’m not one to say because I’m not as well informed on the issue as others are.
By finish what they started, I don’t mean blindly fight and fight until we’re all dead. I mean…take a responsibility for what you do, stay until it is no longer beneficial to either party.
245-Sorry, Axa. I completely did miss your point. I, however, do think the time for us to pull out is now!
Could we please have a new thread?
The war, the war. Why is it that nobody can take their mind off the war? Yes, it was a mistake, but we should think about the things that will happen in our own country. We started arguing about who would make a better president, right? Well, Obama would end the war, and then what? How will his plans affect this country?
246- You should think about the consequences that will have, too.
247- Not enough posts.
The Consequences of Pulling Out:
American Soldiers Stop Dying
Iraqi Death Toll Lessens
We Regain International Trust and Prestige
We Have Money in our Treasury To Work Out Our Problems!
249-Shown that way, it seems like a good plan, and I agree generally that it is. However, my personal views aside, there is a pretty strong argument for at least a more gradual pulling-out in the political tumult we’ll be leaving the not-yet-too-well equipped Iraqi military and police force to contend with. We should never have gone in in the first place…and we should probably get out immediately now, its just….after we’ve created all this, it seems as though we have some responsibility to restore order (not that we have any idea how). Gar! I realize I’m ranting, but its a very multi-fold problem…
249, 250- I was thinking more about the effects Obama would have on our country besides the war.
The song “I kissed a girl” has become something of a controversy among people at my school.
Well, actually everyone loves it except for the parents. I think its so catchy and katy perry has a great voice. the song is pretty relevant to, not to mey life but to a lot of other high-school aged/college people.
252-People at my school just plain love it. It’s, like, everyone’s MySpace song.
Clarissa knew about it months before it came out, and she told me a few days before it hit the charts. So we would sing some of the lyrics and people would be like “You’re weird” and now everyone’s obsessed with it, and it’s gotten old. I hate when a good song gets popular.
252- What’s the song about?
personally, I think the US should give Iraq, Aphganistan, and pakistan a bunch of money, pull out, vote Obama, nationalize health care, becaome a socialist country, raise minimum wage, ban Wal-mart, make sure abortion will always be legalized, raise taxes for the rich, create better and more public housing, *goes on for the next hour*
Good idea, but please don’t give them money! We don’t have enough to do all that stuff if we give them money.
Sorry for the double post, but those Westboro people are awful! I didn’t think anybody that evil still existed.
-254 We could make that part of our MH plans, Vixen!
I think the U.S. needs to yes, give a bunch of money to all the countries we’re currently oppressing, and send Bush in to go help them get themselves back in order. Maybe he could be a non-payed servant…? :hopeful: and we need to get rid of this mindset that encourages not reacting until we’re running for our lives, in figurative speech. Here’s a great website for anyone interested: [Snip! Sorry. –Admin.] I promise that this link is not dangerous, or anything different than a site for peace activists, yogis (like me) and people who are screaming for a better nation.
oh, well, sorry GAPAs.
254- A girl gets drunk at a party and kisses another girl. Shes not a lesbian, its just about being young and experimenting. Of course though the usual bunch of ultra-ultra-ultra conservatives are in an uproar.
What? That’s not bad at all…
254–sounds good. Run for Pres. some day.
260–I don’t know, I think it’s a little odd. I mean, if that happened to me, I don’t think I’d want to flaunt it, you know?
254- socialist??? i don’t know about that, the rest sounds good though
Is it just me, or has this thread changed a lot, it used to be everyone argung and getting emotional and it seems like people agree more and discuss things more nicely now. I like it.
238/239- I agree that we need to take care of ourselves, we are no where near the top economically, we are trillions of dollars in debt, and facing a recession, inlation, and numerous natural disasters. The cost of everything is going up and it’s not going to come down any time soon, and people’s paychecks are staying the same, it’s like everyone taking a cut in their pay without being aware.
This is very serious! If we follow the generally accepted economic pattern, we have gone from a recession, to the depression, slowly back up to the top,(whatever that’s called) down to resession and we are now facing depression.
Remember those pictures of starving people?? It CAN happen again! Living in a farming community, I am seeing people getting rid of animals and not planting as many crops because all the inputs (fuel, fertilizer, seed, grain…) are doubling and in some cases even increasing tenfold or more. The flooding out west is ruining a large portion of this year’s grain crop. That grain goes on to feed people and animals. Without this grain from our own nation, it WILL HAVE TO BE IMPORTED, thus making the price increase next year, ALOT, and not only the price of grain, but also all animal products.
If you don’t eat much grain or animal products…your wierd, but furthermore, that leaves you with mostly fruits and vegetables. OK, they take more fuel and fertilizer to grow. AND, of course, more labor, and where does the labor come from? mexican migrants, the ones we’re trying to get rid of. If all the mexicans stopped working today, by next week there would be almost no fresh fruits/vegetables available in your area.
So, if anyone had the patience to read that whole thing, you’ll see that our country is in HUGE trouble, the best thing about the Iraq war right now is that it helps with population control, fewer mouths to feed. The world has so many problems now, I could go on and on, but I believe the most pressing issue is food, people cannot physically survive without food…
Any thoughts?
I agree with you about food! It’s a nesesaty (sp)!
262- “mexican migrants, the ones we’re trying to get rid of” *chokes on iced tea* You agree with that? If they want work, we should give them work. At a good wage.
264- I agree. It’s part of living in an overpopulated world, so we should get used to it.
264/265- no, I don’t agree with trying to get rid of the mexican migrants, we hire them on our farm occasionally, I was just saying how the gov’t (and I know some people that support it) are trying to send them away, and it’s terrible. There was an INS raid a while back close to where I live where a bunch of mexicans were taken away to the detention center and a 2 year oid was left un-attended in the house. I can get really fired up about the Mexicans and INS…
*vents quietly*
Anyone who is interested should see American Harvest, it’s a new documentary movie, I met the guy that made it, it’s really good, though a little long.
266- Oh okay. sorry. I’m a bit jumpy about imagrants and migrants, having to constantly yell at people for calling my friends and boyfriend ‘pærkers’!
My Random Ideas.
First of all, I think that makeup is unnecessary(sp) and just a way to make girls and women feel like dirt when they don’t wear it. Also, I can think of some girls in my class who would laugh at me if I told them I got my clothes at Target. I am serious. About the war, we would indeed be much better off if we pull out of it. There are better ways to control the population than killing everyone off.
268-I agree with you!
About what?
268 – I completely agree with you. Most of my classmates, however, consider me to be their geeky little sister (or something like that), so they don’t mind if I wear something from, say, Children’s Place (those things still fit me), or if my mom still buys my clothes (I couldn’t care less about fashion and what I wear. “Whatever’s on top” is my style). Makeup is overrated.
270-The makeup and the war!
Kokonilly, you’ve said it.
273 – Said what??? *looks around frantically*
Post number 271. At least it says you wrote that.
Oh yeah. Okay. And, yes, I did say that.
26:
Removing someone from society cold be sending them to jail for 35 years-life. Killing is making en have no chance of reforming, or feeling sorry for their actions.
The death penality not only doing this, but also inflicts pain, causes the Murdurers family endless amounts of grief, and accomplishes nothing. The killer may have been blackmail, or something horrible was done to them, and they just mad a decision that they would regret later, and felt horribly about it moments after.
or they could have been encited by others to do it, or they could have been crazy, temporalily, or long term. They could have thought that they had a good reason.
Anything could have been going through the murdurers mind when en murdured.
And you still might not know if you made the right decision of convicting en, en could have been innocent.
The family of the Killed one will most likely not just stop greiving, and it won’t bring en back to life.
Hundreds of years ago, executions were a form of cheap entertainment, and nowadays they are still used.
Essentially, you have views so outdated that they are hndreds of years old.
It is stooping down to their levels, Cliff Eagle Teh Pwnage.
If you suppourt the cause due to your parents suppourting it, I understand, two kids in my class ar Republicans due to thir parents, they were influenced.
And about all the “society doesn’t need” stuff, society doesn’t need a lot of things, but I dont see anyone sending Rupert Murdoch to the chair.
Next time, find good arguments when suppourting a bad cause.
277-I agree with you.
And for my nextstunning argument, I will pretend to be extremely Christian, though I am a Jewish Atheist.
Its more likely to go up than down, right?
So, If someone kills someone, the killed one will probably go up.
But… if the killer is killed, They will definately go down.
so, if you kill a killer, you are having en be tortured for eternity, when en just did the nice thing of Giving someone eternal bliss.
While I respect your right to an opinion, It’s a bad one.
You know, now that I think about it…
Sending Murdoch to the chair…
We could do without fox….
Maybe we could think about that?
277-I agree. Also, my mom is a psychiatrist in a jail, she sees so many crazy people there who have done nothing wrong but not knowing what they were doing. It’s sad.
Scanning in a handwritten apology note would be acceptable in this situation.
On a slightly new topic: justice.
A trial can still be unfair and unjust even if it reaches the correct verdict and accompanying sentence.
Responces?
You can be right for the wrong reasons.
thus, I agree.
-283 (that would have been “Responses?”) yes, a trial can be very unfair. If someone is accused of doing a crime, for instance, arson, but the fire did not spread, then undoubtedly the person deserves a short time in prison. But if the offended makes more of the case, then the non-innocent but undeserving offender may suffer a lifetime imprisonment or the death penalty, which should be banned, in my mind.
And what if the “arsonist” doesn’t get a trial? They just have to spend their time in prison, after questioning by a judge, but without a jury to vote. A judge may be biased, racist, or fair. But if that happens and the person is correctly accused, but not too criminal, then the court has imprisoned a person that doesn’t deserve such a heavy punishment.
Or, what if they didn’t intentionally commit the crime?
Or, what if, for example, a person GUILTY of Murdering three people, has lived on death row for twenty years, and has regretted what he has done, totally made up for his deeds by writing books for people about how it is important to make the right choices in life, and lots of people say that he is REDEEMED, should he still be ecxecuted?
Yes, I am of course refering to Tookie Williams. I cried myself to sleep when they killed him. *tear*
Say, for example, Tom Robinson of TKAM was guilty, the jury reached guilty, but not out of proof, but out of racism.
Thus, the jury would have given the right virdict, but for a horrible reason.
285- sorry for my horrible spelling
287- exactly. the verdict may be just, but the trial could have been completly unfair.
287-I never thought about that.
Summary of life: It sucks. Cope.
I’m not that pathetic, but some people’ve got it really bad and don’t deserve it, while others have a great life and deserve hell, while others deserve hell and get it but not for the right reasons, and still others get all the good stuff and deserve it, but unfairly.
And what if their intention was evil, but the result wasn’t that bad? Do they deserve a punishment for the intention or the result of the intention?
289.
huh???
1.
when you called them “wackos”, you essentially ruined your argument, because if they are wackos (crazy) than they are not responsible for their actions, making it illegal to execute them.
Wow, some one needs to give this thread the death penalty. I have the first post in this and I haven’t blogged since April 08. I declare this thread guilty and I sentence it to death. GAPAs, can you start a new hot topics thread?
No one seems to have any hot topics to discuss, but I suppose it could happen. I’ll create a new thread.
