Could we have a thread about cryptozoology?
1- Oooh!!!! A fellow cryptozoologist!
2- Yes, albiet a skeptical one.
cryptozoology? study of dead animals???
4- No, study of animals that may or may not be real. Like Bigfoot or the Loch Ness Monster.
Like playing ‘Identify that Roadkill’ on long car rides? Haha.
6- You…scare…me…
I play ‘Find the White Limo’ on long car rides, so there.
Can we have a thread about academic competitions?
8-I would find that rather depressing….
emmatheduck! ::pies:: I haven’t seen you in awhile — welcome back! ::pies again::
I’ve always wanted a thread like “The Anti Chatroom” thread, which was on MB before I got here. (https://musefanpage.com/blog/?p=86). I think it would be great, and I definitely think we should have another.
I thought the Anti-Chatroom was a good idea. It never quite worked the way it was supposed to, though, and nowadays the Incredible Morphing Chameleon Threads do pretty much the same thing. Still, GAPAs aim to please, and we’ll be happy to revive it if there’s a demand.
10,11- I’d be happy to give it a shot.
10- Sure!
6- Ahhh, a fellow Road Kill Identifier.
*evil grin*
A friend of mine says her family used to call roadkill animals “wuzzies” — as in fuzzy-wuzzy and “what was it?”
Has anyone here read John McPhee’s long article “Travels in Georgia”? It’s in at least two of his collections, available at most libraries, and should appeal to roadkill enthusiasts.
Yes let’s try an anti chatroom again.
uhhhhhh what about……….. UHHHHHHHHHHHHHH….. ummmmmmmmm….. I”VE GOT IT! EUREKA! WE SHOULD DO IT ON THE BEATLES! * at that moment listening to ‘breakfast with the beatles’ on the radio* OOOOOO LISTEN!
peace to the world and pies for everyone!
the weirdo in the polka dot top hat
wait i have another one!! What about puppies?? I’m going to get one soon, SO CUTE! then they have to grow up into awesome still sute dogs!
To be fair, it was actually my friends mother that came up wit Identify That Roadkill and it is seldom actually played.
My family has enough odd conversations on it’s own. Dinner’s last night got into the subject of Stephan King character action figures Torment your children!
10-*pies back* sorry, I’ve been somewhat busier this year, and I’m spending more of my internet time socializing with CTYers and sometimes spellers. (Yes, I do love MB, but those are people that I actually know but will in many cases never see again, or at least not for another 168 or 189 days.)
How about a Latin thread? I just started learning Latin a couple months ago, but I love it and I’m sure plenty of other MBers study it as well.
20 – A Latin thread sounds great! I’ve taken Latin since this summer and love it.
How about an alter ego thread for those who have alter egos/personalities?
22-You mean like bi-poler?
????????????? don’t know, anyway can u guess who i am?
PEACE AND PIES FOR EVERYONE
ThE weIRdO iN tHE PolKAdOt tOp hAT
we should have a thread about winter sports. or ja thread for any sports for that matter!
Good idea!
could we please change the topic of web design?? o the thread which name i can’t remember
27- HTML practice?
Oh, sorry for the double post, but I remembered what I would like a thread about.
We should have a thread about summer because it’s really miserably cold so I’ve just been sitting inside planning what I’m going to do once it’s over -12783 degrees outside.
I have a bunch of things I want to do this summer besides what we’ve planned with the family.
I might like a thread about human and robotic missions in space, but I don’t know if anybody else would.
I would like a thread about william Shakespeare. I am only fourteen, but I have read many of his works, and they are very good pieces of literature. It may not be popular with other fans, but it would be very cool.:D
why not?
39- YES!
Computers?
a pets tread?
A new “You know you’re addicted to MB when…” thread?
COMPUTERS!
How about a post about the people we most admire?
Edgar Allan Poe thread.
20-Aha! I didn’t even notice your post at first! good! you’re back!
37- *gasps* It cannot be coincidence! Our English class is studying Poe! We read “The Cask of Amantillado” today.
39-ooh. my core class read that a little while ago(’bout a month)
My English class performed “The Tell-Tale Heart” last year. I was the assistant director, also known as “you weren’t here the week we did everything except perform but we need to give you a title.”
39- So did we.
It’s because Saturday is Poe’s birthday.
Edgar A. Poe Posts-It’s amazing how a teacher can take something that you find completely interesting and make you hate it just by teaching about it.
Edgar A. Poe is my third favorite dead author (next to Douglas Adams and Lewis Carrol)
Poe’s stuff scares me to pieces, but I guess that’s a sign of how good a writer he was.
COMPUTERS!
PLEASE!
I just fond a set of cds with EAP’s poems and stories on them. That is defiantly going on my ipod
can we please have a computers thread?
48- That sounds like a good idea.
Can we GAPAs?
We should have a weird quirks thread. It could be for pet peeves, weird obsessions, or whatever else makes people a little weird.
Weird is a weird word. I before E except after C or said as AY as in neighbor and weigh, unless it’s weird or foreign.
51- Good idea. I have many weird quirks.
Can we have another “adventure” thread like the Scriblemaya one, only on topic?
53- Oh, that’s likely.
As was suggested on the Hot Soup thread, I would very much like a Star Wars thread!
STAR WARS!
[sighs wistfully] I suppose that suggesting a Max Ride thread is useless?
57- yes.
wait.
is it like Alex Rider?
Then We could have a combo thread…
57 – Well, you could ask for a Halloween thread, given the direction the last one took…
note to the GAPAs:
in 2006, a land called museica was founded on this blog. it has ended up with more lands over time. now Agagabagabag is slowly taking the plot, if you will, over.
I feel that this ruins the fun of the land, the mystery of not knowing what is coming up next.
maybe the rest of the Blog does not agree with me. but some might.
please GAPAs, give us a new land to call our own, a museblog only land, a land to be the made of the best ideas on the blog.
when you read this, a new pie war will have started.
that pie war is based on someone’s book about there museworld life.
if you would, let us start again, a clean slat.
please.
the future of the blog depends on it.
please.
the musewolrd is collapsing
please.

It is crazy for me to suggest a thread where people find what they think their username would look like and send in pictures? (Not real pictures of themselves, pictures/representations of their username) Like a kind of sort of “guess what MBers look like” thread except in pictural form and they send it in themselves “Random Awesome Avatar picture thread” or something…I’m drawing a blank for names.
61 – Kind of like the signature shirts.
-imagines a cat meowing- I’m done.
sorta…………..
61- That’s a good idea! Avatars are something from other forums that I miss when I’m here.
(61, 64) Do you mean something along the lines of “if MuseBlog had avatars, what would yours look like?”
65- Yes.
65- That would be cool!
I’ve always wanted the blog to switch to phpbb. Other people have said they like wordpress more, but my and parents have guests over and I’m bored so I just thought I’d mention it…
I want the smiley story (LOOOONG) back!!! It was fun!!!
Also, I think we should have a magic thread, discussing mythical creatures, gods and goddesses, witches, magicans, alchemists, faeries, and fairy tales.
Maybe even a thread for your land of paradise, where you can explain how it looks and about the people who live there.
A thread for blog histories? Rather than clogging up the random thread?
71 – Good idea.
I still would like a new “You know you’re addicted to MB when” thread.
How about another “You know you’re addicted to x when y” thread?
Good idea! Done.
Blog Histories? Please?
I suggested this on the random thread a while ago: A thread for point trading. Y’know, spdzk, pie, KAG, Julia is Better than You, and Brownie… if someone wants some they can go there, and peopel who need to get rid of their points head off there too.
Can Mozart’s birthday get a thread? He’s my favorite musician ever.
How about a “Things that we don’t like” thread?
We should have a thread that the GAPAs and MBers post on whenever they get online and then again when they get offline. That way we wouldn’t be stuck wondering if we were the only MBers in the universe that were online.
I dunno if it would work, but it’s a good idea.
How ’bout an ants vs. bees thred?
l’m fir bees, despite what Gary Havel says.
1. The fight might be a guerilla fight, where the bees quickly drop down, allow ants to crawl over them, fly to great heights, and then do tricks to drop them. Advantage: Bees.
2. Most bees live in social group, and therefore there could be an even fight.
3. As l said in 1, bees might not have to sting the ants. Even if they did, the reason that bees can only sting larger animals once is because their stingers get caught in the flesh. With ants, their mass wouldn’t give much resistance when they pulled out.
4. This one, Gary, only works if the bees lose, which they wouldn’t.
80- What the heck?
Oh. l usually recieve Muse after everyone else. Disregard it.
82- You mean before?
No. By the time l get Muse, l usually don’t have to worry about spoilers.
can we have a new factoid thread?
(85) Request granted.
How about a “Cool News” thread where we post whenever we hear a news story we think is cool and describe it?
I second the cool news
We should have a thread where everyone posts thier favorite jokes!
GAPAs, could we pleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleasePLEASE have a National Ocean Sciences Bowl thread? Even though I’m the only one who knows anything about it? People could all post Ocean Sciences facts and then I would be able to MuseBlog AND study! And it doesn’t have to be about the Bowl, it could just be Ocean Sciences.
Maybe a “If MuseBlog had sign-off lines, what would yours be?” thread.
Ooh! I have a good idea for a thread!
Okay, so everybody knows how we just had a very blah January, right? Everybody seemed to have some sort of problem they were working through.
Well, maybe we could have a “MuseBlog Advice” thread. Sort of like an advice column, where people could use alter egos so they wouldn’t be emberased about asking for help. And MBers could both ask for/give advice. I kind of imagine it like a R&R+Just Friends+Other Advice thread, except you have the option to be anonymous.
Anybody else like that idea?
can we have a script frenzy brainstorm thread? we had one for NaNo about this early. and scripts are tougher!
Okay. So forget it being about the bowl. May we please have an ocean sciences thread?
94- Seconded.
What if another forum, run by a MBer, not associated with the blog existed. If anyone wanted to do things that aren’t allowed on the blog (like posting links or sharing emails) they could do it there?
96-The reason the GAPAs don’t want you to have other MBers’ emails is they don’t want you contacting people who might not be trustworthy. How would we get to this new place where emails are allowed, when the GAPAs would know they were allowed and wouldn’t let you tell us where it is?
Also, I think the GAPAs are right to have strict rules in place…
We have had a thread every day this month. Let’s see if we can continue, having another (NOT POINTLESS, MIND YOU!) thread created every day this month! We need one tonight if we are to continue!
Red-tailed HAWK
Can we have a thread about How to make the RRR live?
Could we do something for Ernest Shackleton’s birthday on the 15th?
Oh, and could you mark it that there’s a lunar eclipse at 9 Eastern on the 20th?
98- I second that. Although maybe it would be more direct to just try to resurrect the RRRs ourselves, without putting our energy into another superfluous thread.
97 – Agreed. Also, I noticed that as well…I wonder if this is a record or something.
98, 100 – I think all of the writers need to figure out how to stop ALL the writing threads from dying. It feels like only 2 or 3 people are active on any of them, even though many come at the start, claim they’ll be active, since those people then disappear as soon as the thread is off the Most Recent Posts list.
101- That what I meant.
And why has no one Has looked at my Post on RRR 2007.4? Please post!
this has been a message from The Man For Aeiou.
102 – Sorry, I haven’t been involved in that RRR at all, except a little very early on.
102- I looked, but you had stopped in midsentence so I figured it wasn’t time to post.
Nobody seems to care about my Star Wars story in Books in Progress.
105-Star Wars is sexist. i have not read your story, so I’m not commenting on your story.
106- In my story, the protagonist is female, and the Leia character is way stronger. If you want to read the story, just search for “books in progress”.
[KaiYves’s story, “Conspiracy Wars,” begins here. –Admin.]
107- I just may do that.
104- I had to get off in half a second or no computer for a week.
108- Post your comments when you finish reading it.
Could we have a thread about Explorers?
105- I care, but it’s a lot to read and it’s way, way, too fast. And i don’t know what kind of advice to give to make it slower.
MuseBlog should switch from the Gregorian to the Museican calendar, detailed below.
August=Kokopelluary
September=Chaduary
October=Aeiourch
November=Bopril
December=Uraniay
January=Feathune
February=Crrawly
March=Pwtst
April=Mimember
May=Bunnober
June=Mos-harember
July=Piember
Year BB is Before Blog: AB is Anno Blogini. I was born on Mimember 4, year 0013 BB.
113- can’t we at least have the months sound the same?
113- Since Kokopelluary comes first, its chronological counterpart would be January. Thus, Kokopelluary.
Still, I must admit there’s a nice ring to Bovember. Discuss.
Can we mark it on the calendar that the space shuttle Endeavour is set to take off on 11 March?
106 – How so?
Then I was born on Aeiouurch 9, year 0012 BB…
scratch that! 0011BB…
wait no…scratch that post…arrgh! darn math!
How about a Knitting, Crocheting, and other various handicrafts thread? (I’m a knitter. *Goes off to knit some MORE stuff*)
Thanks, GAPAs.
113 &c.- That would mean I was born on Kokopelluary 21, 0012 BB (POSOC- since you’re thirteen now, how could you be born in the thirteenth year before the blog? It would have been year 0011 BB, I think).
121- I used to knit. I knit a lovely scarf once.
I was born in 1994. I guess I counted back from 2008 by mistake.
124-yeah, I got a little confused…
(13) I think it would be fun to have 13 months of 28 days each (13 times 28 equals 364), plus one special “intercalary” (non-week) day (or two, in a leap year). That way, every month would be exactly four weeks long. If you started on a Sunday, then every month would have a Friday the 13th. It would be harder to translate from that calendar to the normal one, though.
126- The intercalary day would be the founding of MuseBlog. Months would be counted from there.
That was August 1, 2005.
It would be a lot more convenient just to follow your original play: rename the months of the regular calendar, and keep the number of days the same.
could we have a thread about world domination ? *on my hands and nees* pleas oh grate Administrator I beg of thee pleas *sob sob* * saloming*
(128) But why settle for convenience when a more convoluted opportunity is so readily at hand?
129- We already do. It’s called The Kokonspiracy thread.
Because We have every thing.
Um, Piemeber 3, 009 (Is that right? I mean 1996) BB.
Lord of the Rings, anyone? Please? With lots of pie?
I’d seconded that!
134-Yes, a Lord of the Rings thread would be awesome!
A Star Wars thread would be really cool to have on here.
A Most Humble Suggestion Directed at Rebecca Lasley, Lady Bunniful, Mistress of the Thaumaturgico-Graphical Arts, Keeper of the Sacred Phlame.
A series of pictures based on the posters for the Alien movies, except with the following variations:
1. “Alien” replaced in all instances with “Bunny;”
2. Green color scheme replaced in all instances with pink;
3. Pictures of xenomorphs replaced in all instances with lagomorphs;
4. Other Muserly elements such as Kokopellis added (optional).
And, last but not least:
5. Change tagline to “On the blog, no-one can hear you scream.”
131 the kokonspiracy is one world domination thread ther are several googol more schemes *bwa ha ha ha ha* king badrang scheme being one of them…. shurly their are other people with self senterd plans like mine? Yes? Good we have a second any thirds out there?*claps hands in slow rabble rising tempo * clap_clap_clap
Not to nitpick, but since it’s named after Captain Cook’s ship, Endeavour should be spelled the British way.
(140) Not to worry, KaiYves. MuseBlog provides a haven for nitpickers: professional, amateur, and those in recovery. The calendar has been amended.
By the way, I’ll be thinking of you this weekend when I attend the annual astronomy festival at the local community college, which has a small observatory. I’m looking forward to being there in the daytime, too, so I can finally walk the entirety of the sidewalk solar system. On my last journey, I had to turn back when I reached Uranus, as the trek to Neptune seemed inadvisable for a lone individual that late at night.
Clear skies, Administrator Lasley.
I was thinking we could have a thread about dreams. Does anyone like that idea?
Sory to have to ask for this again but could you please put the Let’s get Physiognomical, 2008 edtion thred under the don’t forget these threds section?
Thanks!
How about a thread for talents, especially really unusual and unheard-of things? Something tells me Musers must have a lot of these…
Red-tailed HAWK
145- Good idea!
Script Frenzy?
146-Thanks!
We must be patient though, I’m sure the GAPAs are busy enough cleaning up the current mess… *Hands thank you pies*
Red-tailed HAWK
How about a… Twilight? Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease?
149- no. Don’t ask for another month.
March 25th is Greek Independance Day. We should throw spinach pies at Turks.
We should have a pet gallery thread. Like, we send pics of our pets and the GAPAs post them.
Could we write an aRRRticle? As in, everyone who wants to participate chooses a topic, researches it, and contributes. Or is that too serious?
I’m feeling very idea-ish today.
Could we have a thread for crazy expressions like “erk” and how we use them and what they mean.
And last but not least, my very wierd and dysfunctional idea:
Could we do something where we’re collectively writing the diary of some preson, but we don’t plan anything about the person. They could be a historical figure or an ordinary teenager or an adult or a cow or a hot pink bunny. We’d just write entry after entry without consulting at all and see how the story went, with each person adding elements to the character.
*feels exhausted from typing a lot and thinking*
I’d Like a Mystery RRR.
154- *gasp* Mind reader! I was thinking of asking for aa Mystery RRR.
Please?
We’ve been creating a lot of threads lately. I think it would be wise to slow down until at least, oh, say, April 2 or so.
157- do you know what? Can you put it on you calender for May 1st? Then Screnzy won’t kill it.
Could you bump that thread? it’s coming up.
What about more RPG threads? *Puppy dog pout*
158 – That sounds good.
And, ditto on a Screnzy thread.
GAPAs, Respond if it’s on your calendar. or what.
Yes, it’s there: “May 1, GAPAs to create RRR Mystery thread.”
162- thanks!
April 12th is the day back in 1961 that Yuri Gagarin became the first person in space. Can we put it on the calendar and celebrate Yuri’s Night on the blog that day?
GAPA’S, could you please start a new poetry thread as the old one is dead? Dead as a doornail. Mind! I don’t mean to say that I know, of my own knowledge, what there is particularly dead about a doornail. I might have been inclined, myself, to regard a coffin nail as the deadest piece of ironmongery in the trade. But the wisdom of our ancestors is in the simile; and my unhallowed hand’s shall not disturb it or the country’s done for. You will therefore permit me to repeat, emphatically, that the poetry thread is as dead as a doornail.
Thank yee kindly.
Thanks, GAPAs!
165- What was that from! What Was That From!
167- Christmas Carol. Dickens. You may now give me all your spdzk points.
168- I don’t have any, But You can have these TMFA points. *Gives 1,000 TMFA point*
168-You hit the nail on the head (aren’t I punny). Unfortunately, in my utter noobfullness or neophyte-ism (whichever you prefer, I think I prefer the latter), I haven’t got any points. Or where you talking to TMFA.
*decides to wait and see how everything plays out*
169- Never mind. I was joking.
We should have a school thread. I feel as though I need one.
I promise not to complain too much.
Seriously.
172 – Seconded.
Could we have a Complaints & Rants thread? I remember one from a while ago.
–CAT’S MEOW
Seconded.
174-Seconded. I need that right now.
Also, could we have “funny personages” thread. It would be for describing funny characters that we have met.
(174-6) The old Complaints and Rants thread is still open and underutilized.
Can we have another Dreams thread?
178-Oh that would be fantastic. I realize that I am destroying my credibility a little bit by loving every idea, but I really truly mean it for this one. Purlease. Or better yet, pwease.
Any one in Favor of a NEW SCRIPT FRENZY THREAD?
(180) *raises hand* My apologies; I meant to start a new one earlier.
How about *repeats idea and feels horribly redundant* a funny characters thread? Where we write short character sketch-like thing for people we see? Just eccentric and ludicrous personalities.
How about a thread where you can say what you’ve always wanted to do? Like, I’ve always wanted to go up the down elevator at the mall. So we could talk about how it would be, or if you tried it, how it was. If there were people who’ve done that already they cant tell you how it was, and all that.
or
Maybe a song writing thread? Where we can make up random songs……
Maybe not the 2nd one……….
there should be a thread on performing and watching theatrical performances!
My suggestion:
I just forgot. Dang. Maybe I’ll remember if I go back to what suggested it to me…
Oh yes, now I remember!
GAPAs: Is there anywhere one could quickly and easily access the various Muserly art projects that Lady Bunniful has been steadily adding to the blog for the past year or so?
185- some of them are on photobucket.
184-Hear! hear! But could it be for general performances (ie. concerts, dances, plays) that we have seen of participated in, instead of just theatre?
(185) Thanks for asking, POSOC. Most everything I could think of, I’ve added to my public Photobucket albums, listed below. If you can’t find something you’re looking for in particular, let me know.
Root album
Tea Room
Odds and ends
Random threads
Random thread subcategories:
December Deliquescence
Hare-athon
Some MBer art is also available, such as valentines, maps, and avatars. Everything is accessible from the root album, but I’ve listed the others for convenience.
What’s the e-mail to send stuff into. I forgot it. I want to make a map of the Pieceful Pie Planet. I’m surprised no one has made one yet. Can we have another No, This is Pie War, or another Space thread? Or general Science???
189-I’d second the Science! The last one was great…
This is going to sound a bit odd, but I was wondering if we could have an alchemy RRR? It seems like such a Muserly subject, and I was shocked to see that there wasn’t already one. Anyway, I don’t have any specific plot ideas yet, but its an intriguing subject…
191-Wait. Mystery is coming up. I’d say june might be good?
191- Alchemy RRR? Count me in, chere ami. Did you know that the name for transforming base elements into gold is chrysopoeia?
192-Makes sense…
193-Squee! I am glad to see enthusiasm (and knowledge, which I lack in). Maybe if there is enough suppourt, we can get it before the mystery RRR! That would be flamabablous!
I literally just figured out that Aitapyh is Hypatia backwards. -is smart-
Both alchemy and mystery RRRs sound interesting. Sea Roc touches on alchemy a bit, but…
195- that seems hard. today, or tommorrow.
Alchemy RRR- Definininininitely. Of course I know next to nothing about alchemy, but who cares?
Gapas?
Yay! Can we get it *refrains from saying that-which-must-not-be-said* please?
Please clarify: do you want the alchemy RRR instead of the long-promised mystery RRR? It’s probably not a good idea to start them both at the same time.
Well, there does seem to be a groundswell of interest in an Alchemy RRR. So why not? But no time to play much on the blog right now, though. Stay tuned. It will eventually appear.
Oh, I didn’t see Robert’s comment before posting mine. He asks a very good question.
Hi, Rosanne! Nice to “see” you!
In my opinion we should stick with the mystery one right now, and either:
a) Incorperate alchemy into it. Alchemy + Mystery = Way Cool
b) Wait a month or so before getting an Alchemy RRR
205- A! A! A!
205- I say start the mystery RRR now, and wait until June to start the Alchemy RRR. In June, I’ll have a lot of free time on my hands, so you can expect many contributions.
I don’t care which one we do at all. I’d probably end up contributing slightly more to the Alchemy RRR then the Mystery RRR, but considering how much I’m contributing to current RRRs, anything’s an improvement.
Hi, Robert! Care for a cup of tea at the H&H?
Yes, indeed. How about a small table near the fireplace?
Will the mystery RRR be a mystery story? Or odes mystery refer to the fact that its topic is yet unknown?
Anyway, I think starting the Alchemy RRR in June sounds like a good idea.
I know that there have been Big Bang threads in the past, but I was wondering, could we have another thread about the origins of the universe? That way we could debate the merit of various theories purely scientifically, without flaming.
That would be nice.
Please (not that I refrained from substituting the l with a w)!
GAPAs? I think Rebecca’s out there…
Why not discuss the topic on the Chameleon thread as already suggested? Or the old Origins and Beginnings thread is still open. In any case, we’ve just set up a run of new threads, so let’s not rush into more quite yet.
216- put it with the alchemy RRR for June?
Could we have a new writing challenge thread?
Also, what do the people who were interested in doing an alchemy RRR think about centering it on John Dee, English alchemist, scientinst mathematician and occultist?
Woops, I just read 216. In retrospect, ignore the first part of the previous post… : )
218- That sounds good, although we might also incorporate Paracelsus and Tycho Brahe. Not Flamel, he’s been overused, but I’d like to see Basil Valentine also make an appearance.
220-Doing something about the weird corrolation between Paracelsus’ ideas and Valentine’s might be interesting. Tyco Brahe is the most scientific, I believe, which might be nice. It depends on what type of alchemy we want: occult or scientific…
221 – Why not both?
222- Both, definitely! Valentine’s got an entire recipe for the Philosopher’s stone, but it has a lot of occult symbolism in it, so it’s really open to interpretation.
222-The more the merrier! I agree. Although there are the constraints of people not having lived at the same time. But, we could think of some around that. After all, we’re all Musers!
Another question to consider is, are we going to make it fantasy (mystical, occult) or historical. Fact alone, or a combination of legend and fact…
Oh my. I don’t have access to a library, so I shall have to rely on Wikipedia. Or something.
225 – Well, as you said they don’t live at the same time. So it’s probably going to have at least a bit of legend/fact combonation.
I think it would be sweet to have the different approaches to alchemy racing to try to get the Philosopher’s Stone before the people on the other side do. Or something like that.
227-That sounds excellent. Are we using Earth time? If we are, we could include the alchemists who didn’t fit in chronologically by incorporating visions of them…
227- There are several sides: say the “purists” who take a scientific approach and believe that science is the way forward; the “occultists” who think that science has no chance; and the “moderates” who hope to gain the Stone by using a combination of techniques. And of course they’re all using different recipes which are open to different interpretations.
228 – Or find some way to make them still alive in whatever the time period is. I mean, this is alchemy. Alchemy means you can tie in all kinds of secret societies and rituals and weird stuff.
I was just thinking. The stone gives its possessor eternal life. So…
229 – But there’s bound to be some serious rivalry between the purists and the occultists, with the moderates caught in between.
231 – Exactly what I was thinking.
John Dee is interesting, becuase he went from one end of the spectrum to the polar opposite. He sort of exemplifies the conflict.
232-
Isn’t there only one Philosopher’s Stone? Because if the alchemists are only alive because they have the stone, then only one of them from a different time period can be alive in whichever era we choose.
If that made any sense.
I’m a little clueless, and trying to become less so by doing research. It’s not working too well.
233 – Yeah, a lot of people would be really mad at him for what they would see as a desertion from their cause.
From the scanty research I have done so far, these are basically the qualification of the different alchemists we talked about.
Valentine-occultist
Paracelsus-occultist
John Dee-from scientist to occultist
Tyco Brahe-scientific
234 – Well, if they could make one, then they could hypothetically make another using the same recipe.
236- Hmm. Paracelsus seemed pretty much scientific to me.
237- So what’s their goal? They’ve made the stone. Now what?
LIBBY
Now what?
SASHA
What?
LIBBY
I said, now what? You have the
ruby, so what now?
238- The stone could be imperfect. Like in the Deptford Histories, fire and water could retain the power to kill. Not exactly like that, of course, but there would be some weaknesses in the Stone’s gift. So they’d try to perfect it.
The stone was intended to accomplish two things:
eternal life
turn metal to gold.
Their stone could accomplish only one…
“You say it gives metals eternal life and turns people into gold? No, no, no. You’ll have to go back and work on it some more.
I’m sure the metals appreciated it.
241- Not exactly what I was thinking, but that’s the general gist of the idea
Here’s a list of various alchemists:
Rhazes (Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Zakariya Razi)
Olympiodorus of Thebes
Zhang Guo the Elder
Khalid ibn Yazid
Jabir ibn Hyyan
Al-Farabi
Artephius
Albertus Magnus
Roger Bacon (he’d be a good founder of the “scientific” branch)
Ramon Llull (love the name! He’s mainly occultist, and he was a contemporary of Roger Bacon, though younger, so he could have founded the other branch)
Jean de Meung
Pseudo-Geber (huh?)
Gilles de Rais
Bernard of Treves
Johannes Trithemius
Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa
Paracelsus
Basil Valentine (look up his recipe for the Philosopher’s Stone: it’s ambiguous as an object, but it could be useful)
George Ripley
Jacob Boehme
Edward Kelley
Johann Georg Faust
Jan Baptist van Helmont
Tycho Brahe (we’ve just GOT to use him: he could have secretly performed an experiment on his false nose to allow him to smell again )
Francois Hotman
Michal Sedziwoj
Arthur Dee
Edward Dyer
Elias Ashmole (again, great name: the fellow was rather unscrupulous, so if we have him discover the Stone, we could make him the antagonist)
Henning Brand
Isaac Newton
Claude Duval
Alessandro Cagliostro
Count of St Germain
Ernest Rutherford
August Strindberg
Fulcanelli
238-Wikipedia gives him as an extreme occultist. I’ll go look at Britannica. *looks* It refuses to load. *growls ominously* *surfs web* I found another site which gives him as more of a scientist. Still, he did include astrology in his medicine. It almost seems as though his personal beliefs were more mystical and his proffessional practices were more scientific.
244-Fantastic! I take it we’re leaving out Flamel?
Historical context…are we setting it in the past? When? Will it be factual?
246- Yes, certainly. Ashmole, if we’re including him, could have faked his death in 1682 in order to escape a rival alchemist whose ideas he’d stolen.
I just looked more carefully over the wonderful list and I had one correction to add. Can we slip John Dee in there? He’s a fascinating character. Prospero, from The Tempest, is said to be loosely based on him.
Why are we setting it in the past?
Let’s add Bacon and Newton to the story if possible.
249- Certainly.
250- We don’t have to.
251- Excellent.
My only trouble with that is: if we don’t set it in the past, an awful lot of people will have to have drunk the elixir of life. I think we should set at a date that falls within the “real” lifetimes of the maximum number of alchemists and bring the others in with the stone or some other sort of potion. Besides, there’s something more dark and shady, and, therefore, at least in my mind, though I might be off mark here, better suited to alchemy about, say, the Middle Ages or some other bleak period…
253 – Well, what years did all those people live in? I agree that Middle Ages or Dark Ages or something dark/mystical/creepy would be great, but I have no idea when any of these guys actually lived.
Hmm…*realizes that it is probably time to go research* *backs hastily out of thread* I’ll try to find out if I have moment.
Research! I’m on it!
Later: It looks like the 1600’s would be a good period of time to set it.
As far as I can tell, alchemy was a very Renaissance-ish profession.
256-Thanks! You’re the most indefatigable (and skilled researcher) I know. The 1600’s sounds wonderful. We get some Renessaince, too, which can’t possible be anything but a plus!
Here’s a bit of info on John Dee.
“He left Manchester in 1605 to return to London. By that time, Elizabeth was dead, and James I, unsympathetic to anything related to the supernatural, provided no help. Dee spent his final years in poverty at Mortlake, forced to sell off various of his possessions to support himself and his daughter, Katherine, who cared for him until the end. He died in Mortlake late in 1608 or early 1609 aged 82 (there are no extant records of the exact date as both the parish registers and Dee’s gravestone are missing).”
This gave me an idea for an opening scene in which Dee, on his deathbed, tells his daughter an important secret.
interupting the reasech, I have a Suggestion!
a Meet OUR Muses Thread.
remember the feature from 2003ish in the mag? like that, only for muses of us artist, writiers, Etc. What’s POSOC’s Muse like? Who’s Alice’s? what about the rest of the MBers?
260- Good idea!
(260, 261) Let’s give it a run.
260-I love that idea!
Oh Great GAPA (a hint redundant there, eh?) who moderates this post, please oh please, mightn’t you, couldn’t you reopen the Oasis Store RPG thread?
Thank you……..
Alchemy RRR:
Let’s include some dark and dangerous plan that culminates in murder! Or something atleast a little more dark and shady.
265- Most certainly!
Could we have a thread about performing arts: participating in ’em and watching ’em?+movies. That way we could kill the theatre, dance, and film birds in one stone?
Alchemy RRR
Are we making the occultists and the scientists two rival sects? Hmmm, I wonder if any of these alchemists had a mysterious death. That would provide an interesting plot twist and give us the historical backdrop for a murder.
267- Rival, although it’s never come to outright war. (The villain might want to provoke an alchemical war for his personal gain, which would suit Elias Ashmole’s character, if we decide to use him.) The scientists see the occultists as backward, superstitious madmen; the occultists see the scientists as narrowminded, snobbish morons.
268-*tingles with excitement*
Can’t wait to start writing!
I just had an idea: in their quest for the Philosopher’s Stone, the alchemists could have made several “dead-end” discoveries, such as the steam engine, which weren’t “actually” discovered until years, or even centuries, later, due to the secrets being jealously guarded among several different alchemical societies.
And I had another idea. Have you heard of micronations?MuseBlog ought to start one.
270-Love the idea…
Re Micronations: I take it you mean the not-recognized type, not the very small type…And I love the idea! Though that is sort of what Museica is, right?
271- I meant one more like the Aerican Empire or the Republic of Molossia, one that has territory (albeit very little) in the real world- but maybe Museica can start establishing colonies in the real world, too.
Suppose we set this in the year 1660- that gives us an opportunity to include:
Elias Ashmole- currently 43 years old
George Starkey- currently 32
Henning Brand- currently 30
Isaac Newton- currently 18 (we could have him be a main character! Squee!)
Claude Duval- currently 17 (possibly also a character, but further research must be conducted)
And anyone who’s “dead”, but can’t possibly be left out, we can include via a version of the Philosopher’s Stone which lengthens life, transfigures it, or some other form of continued existence that is not true immortality (I assume that no perfect version has yet been discovered). How’s that?
273-Sounds great. It might be interesting to have Isaac Newton caught in the middle of the struggle or something, with both sides trying to recruit him. He leans toward the sciences and is vivcously pursued by the occultists who recognize his talents. Something along those lines?
272- Hey, the government of The Aerican Empire is like Zemtees!
Let’s lay some ground rules for the use of magic in the Alchemy RRR. This is how I envision it. Suggestions? Changes? Questions? Criticism? Howls of rage?
First: Some magic is necessary- there is no way one could transmute base metals into gold under accepted natural laws. Having said that…
Second: In my opinion, this should definitely NOT involve Harry Potter-style magic. Semi-steampunk/alchemy/Stuart England, yes, but no sorcerers tossing multicolored fireballs at each other.
Third: Magic should be an entirely tedious process- simple cantrips often take a half-hour’s preparation. As a result of this, there is virtually no large-scale magic used, because the preparations might take several centuries, even if you could find the necessary materials.
Fourth: Scientific alchemists shouldn’t use magic at all, while most occult alchemists should direct it towards gaining knowledge, such as creating homunculi (or trying to), prophesying, clairvoyancy, and necromancy (for the reckless, desperate, or completely insane.) Which, of course, is all directed towards finding the recipe for the ever-elusive Philosopher’s Stone.
276- Sounds good. Also, magic should come at some cost. It really annoys me when people can work magic with no ill effects.
277- Magic will usually require some sort of personal sacrifice, such as a drop of the magician’s blood for a minor working. More powerful magic requires things that could be either physical or mental; a lifelong dream, for instance.
278-I like that idea a lot. In a sense, the magic is just an extension of science.
279- Precisely! Thermodynamics still apply, as do other natural laws (although some can be temporarily bypassed).
280-Superb! That way we can keep some semblance of accuracy, aqquire a little mystical touch, and also avoid the cliched Harry Potter magic!
Yay for some semblance of accuracy!
*high-fives Hypatia* P’raps we can ride this wave of exuberance into an actual thread?
244- Yes, I would enjoy reading a story with Tycho the Psycho in it.
That reminds me: I’m going to have to list the alchemists we might include. Here we go:
The year is 1660, and the English Restoration under Charles II is just beginning.
Elias Ashmole- currently 43 years old. He resides in London and is married to Lady Mary Mainwaring, although it is rumored that he married her for her estate rather than for any attraction. He is engaged in a catalogue of the Bodleian Library’s Roman coins, avidly pursuing alchemy and botany on the side. (A little bad news- his works were avidly studied by Isaac Newton later in life, which wouldn’t have happened if Newton and Ashmole were bitter enemies. Therefore, we have to either give up Newton as a main character or give up Ashmole as villain. I suppose we can just make him an unpleasant ally of… *researches* Well, well, he was something of a moderate.)
George Starkey- currently 32. He is a citizen of the New World, born in Bermuda, but he left the Americas ten years ago and now lives in London. He is vehemently on the side of the scientific alchemists and despises the occultists.
Hennig Brandt- currently 30. He lives in Hamburg and is affiliated with the scientific side, but he is scorned by his fellows as an amateur. Little do they know that in less than a decade, he will discover phosphorous.
Isaac Newton- currently 18. He has just been sent back to the King’s School at Grantham, thoroughly happy with his lot, and glad to get away from the home of his twice-widowed mother (who was attempting to make a farmer of him) to finish his education. He is a quiet fellow, with few friends, and enjoys devising mechanical contrivances. Though unmarried, he is engaged to Katherine Storer, step-daughter of William Clark, the apothecary with whom he lodged in his earlier years at the School.
Claude Duval- currently 17. Not really an alchemist. Get rid of him.
It looks as though Starkey, Ashmole and Newton are going to play major parts.
*high-fives POSOC* Yes! Perchance the magnanimous GAPA who modifies this post will see it fit to bestow upon us a long longed-for thread. We have after all, used up almost 100 posts on expounding this topic. *pleads* *bribes with virtual choklit*
282-*cheers*
Please help with the Mystry RRR. it’s in ruins.
285-*itches with excitement* Flam… list! Thank you for compiling it!
287-I feel like it just didn’t… work…
(287) Yes, perhaps you should decide what to do about the Mystery RRR before starting anything new. Mysteries have more specialized requirements than some genres, and this one might benefit from starting again with the level of planning you’re doing for the Alchemy story. But I’d advise against rushing into a new RRR until some decision is made about the fate of the old one.
This is not to say the two can’t co-exist at some point. Right now the mystery has yet to catch momentum, however, and a starting a new RRR right now would put an end to it, I fear. At least that’s how it looks to me.
288- I assume you mean “Flamablamab-list?”
290- You’re quite right- perhaps we should wait until the Mystery RRR has a) totally lapsed into dormancy or b) gained enough momentum to sustain itself before starting another RRR.
291-Yep! I wasn’t referring to flan (good desert, by the by). I’m just orthographically indolent!
292-Seems valid. And we can continue using this thread to plot and plan the alchemy RRR until either a or b occur.
(And we can all go post on SMASS-TT and make Hypatia’s day if we feel truly magnanimous. *refrains from saying p******)
294- As soon as Cyprien and Marie stop floundering around and decide on a course of action, I’ll show up again.
295-I suppose you have a point. I just introduced a villainous waiter. He might have the letter…and *trails off*
Define dormint.
297- Has not been posted on for a considerable length of time and shows no signs of being posted on in the future. Terenika is a good example.
I gave Cyprien and Marie a little (and very badly written) kick in the right direction. Purlease!
298- Poor Terenika…
299- This weekend. I promise.
301-Huzzah! Thank you, kindly!
I am going to be honest here. The Mystery RRR is really not working. It doesn’t seem to have clicked properly with enough people to get really underway. I would help more, however, the only mystery stories I like are logical Sherlock Holmesian ones and this RRR seems to be gearing more towards the thriller end of the spectrum. Unless, we get a sudden upsurge in posts, I don’t think it can make it. If nothing happens within, say 5 days, I vote we turn it into the alchemy RRR. How does this sound to everyone?
Can we have a history thread? I know there was one in days past, but it doesn/t seem to be open anymore, and methinks lots of MBers might appreciate the oppurtunity to rant about histor (ical events, y homework, etc). Actually, it might be better to turn it into a general (need a better name) academics thread, where we could discuss math, science, history. Not school and projects, the actual subjects themselves. We could share quirky facts, good sources, elucidate ideas…
303- sound good.
303- w00t!
I think we should have JIAAT (jump in at any time) RPG. I only came in November, so I’m lost. And confused. And bewildered. And…Anyway, could we have another Round Robin Smiley thread? The old one is as dead as a COFFIN nail.
306-That might be nice, only it would be impossible to maintain any semblance of a story line if people could just jump in without having read the thread. Maybe a new RPG, like the original one where everyone imitated somebody, though?
Just for the general information of anyone visiting this thread: the Mystery RRR is becoming a Watergate RRR, probably? If you have objections, are interested, hate the idea with a fiery passion, or have something relevant to say about it, pay a visit to the Mystery RRR thread!
Danke
Could we have another Space, or General Science thread?
Space Shuttle Discovery takes off on the 31st.
GAPA’s, can we purlease have a history, math, science thread? Something like what I was describing in 303. Where am I to rant about the formation of NATO, otherwise?
Purlease! I am going to sit here and be a bad person and get popopoed a trillion times, but I will prevail. Like a sit-in, just for a-not-so-honourable-cause…
Can we please get a history thread? I have ssuuu much to talk about. Or could you re-open the old one? It wasn’t really dead when closed!
Sorry about being so buggersome, I’ll make it up on GAPA appreciation day!
I’m sorry, this is rather strange. Could we have a thread about the meaning of life? And how best to understand it? And perhaps some jokes about the meaning of life? That might be interesting…
Please, GAPA’S! If you grant us a math/science/history thread I promise not to ask at all for the next month. And thats pretty tough for me! P****!
Math, science, and history? Isn’t that a bit broad?
History first, please, because it would be a great help to me.
312-PURLEASE?????????????????????
314-History alone would be perfect! And you granted the request! Oh you GGGGGAPAs. *sobs emphatically out of joy*
I still have this vague hope that if I hang out with the kids who have some idea of history, it’ll rub off on me. I would study it myself, but to research without a purpose is always a doomed venture.
GAPAs, could we pleeeeeeeeeeaaassse have a thread where you can post your stories, or anything that you’ve written, and then other people come in and point out things they think could be changed, revised, or edited? plllleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaassse
319- We already have one. Search for Books in Progress.
-320 i KNOW about books in progress.
321- Then why do you want another thread that serves exactly the same purpose? Since the Writing thread died, BIP’s aegis has widened to include most other varieties.
OK.
What if, by some slim chance, you could create a “off the blog” thread but instead of sending in photos of yourself, you send in virtualites* of yourself? That way people have an idea of what you look like.
*=virtual dolls. you create them on the internet and you can save them on the site I go on.
You know what might be uber (double dots over the u)? A thread called something like, Book Life. It would be an RPPG-ish adventure through the pages of a book that most people had read (if we couldn’t settle on one, we could combine two). We’d take part in adventures, hold conversations with the characters… AND We’d minimize (or eliminate completely) spoilers.
That’s awesome! That would be great!
Can we have a movies thread? Or a cucumber thread? Or a PoPoPo thread?
327- Don’t you mean PoPo? Besides, some people make any thread one of those.
We should make a math thread. You know, a place for people to post hard homework problems or post nearly impossible problems to try and stump the rest of the MBers. The Space thread is trying to accommodate math as well, and it’s annoying. Also, is there a Quotes thread?
A thread about Titan, perhaps, but I find that almost no one actually cares about it…
316- A thread about the meaning of Life?! That would be PERFECT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You can post about Titan on the Space/Math/Science Thread!
Oh? I thought the Space thread was talking about the Phoenix and Mars…
How about a shrinklits/parodies thread?
331-Nope! Just about anything, these days! From math (courtesy of yours truly ) to science…
328-Sorry, guess I sort of started that trend. I agree that a math thread would be pwnereuse!
*sings “Double Posting and Proud of it”* La-Di-Da-Di-Da!
So……how about that “truculent lagamorph” hpb t-shirt?
Speaking of musery T-shirts, how about this:
Pwt staring at the viewer, at her most vindictive, with “We Regret To Inform You That You Are About To Be Pwned” written below.
Also, when’s the “I Beg to Differ” shirt coming out?
334-That’s quite funny…
And I second the inquiry about the Beg to Differ shirt, extending it to H&H…Speaking of which, I am wearing a pure evil Musery Loves Kompany tee-shirt as I type! Huzzah!
I think we’ll be a needing a new suggestion box thread…Soon!
“Beg to Differ” sound a bit like “Think different”
TMFA, Geek of the blog.
can we have a pointless post thread? You know, for the people who feel like saying something that does not fall under any of the threads up?
Or could we have a thread were you try to visualize life in a different perspective, or try and visualize life from another persons/things view? Example, you see a bunny chewing on your rosebushes and you scare it away. Life in the bunnies point of veiw (if it were intelligent):
The gardens of these giant bunny scarers are delicious. It’s just so hard to try and get at those succulent flowers. ! the coast is clear! Here is my chance to get dinner! *run and nibble on a rosebush* mmmm, the first time I had roses since 4 months ago! YUM! Oh no, here it comes. It has a big stick! Oh I have to run! No where to hide! Oh, help! *runs off as person yells at it adn throws stick at it* that was close! I think I twisted my ankle while dodging that stick.
I know, it’s not the best example. And don’t feel sorry for bunnies. I just made that up. Bunnies who look fat, don’t take mercy. Ones who are starving, leave carrots instead of letting them eat your plants!
But the best thing would be to make another Random Factoid thread!
Computers. We need a Computers thread.
338-We have a Computer and Video Games thread. Will that work?
339- no, due to the fact that it’s Computer games and Video Games.
340- Oh yes, I forgot. GAPAs, could you make it computers in general?
333- YES YES YES!
-333 YES, YES!
Can we have a no pain no gain thread? Because I have a lot of pain but I also have a lot of gain.
I have sunburn from a pool party, and bruises all over my arms from taekwondo, and I will probably have bug bites, cuts from plants, and more sunburn tomorrow.
If we can’t have that can we just have a summer fun thread?
Pie war thread! Pie war thread! Pie war–*is thrown out*
What’s “truculent lagamorph?”
346-Mean-spirited rabbit…said in the most prolix way…
How about a shrinklits and parodies thread?
347- We have one, don’t we?
348-Do we? Under what name…
“Muser Parodies”: https://musefanpage.com/blog/?p=887 ,
Including Juliette’s inimitable Romeo and Juliet in Text Talk.
Thanks! *runs off*
How about a “tinkering with special characters” thread?
Like doing
☺☻♥♦♣♠•◘○◙♂♀♪♫☼►◄1↕‼◄¶§▬↨↑↓→â†âˆŸâ†”▲▼
etc.
352- That’s what the HTML thread is for.
353 – But… are they the same thing? I just can’t find the HTML thread.
How about a new HG2MB thread?
355- what about a real HG2G?
(355) We have a fairly recent one, with only 98 comments. I put a link on DFTT.
We need a new Video Game thread. Oh, wait! I know this sounds nerdy, but that is what this place is for, so A Politics Thread to go with the video game thread! w00t!!
