9~ You don’t want to know what all I have crammed in my purse and backpack….

10~ My room is “decorated” with a chip-carved desk from Pakistan, a big denim beanbag chair, a purple shaggy rug made from old t-shirt material, a futon bed with a blue and green quilt and a redish brownish striped wool blanket (the pattern of which is made after a scrap found in a well at Colonial Williamsburg), a pastel colored music stand that is full of music books that fall off every now and then, two bookshelves that are stuffed to the breaking point with my favorite books and other items, a washing machine, and several shelves of foodstuffs. (My room doubles as a pantry.)
On the walls are posters of horses torn from Young Rider magazine, some drawings of buildings from colonial Williamsburg and some tall ships. I made up my own constellations on the ceiling with those glow-in-the-dark stick on stars, and fashioned some “curtains” out of sheer sparkly material.

    It’s rather crazy.

When you walk in the door, to your right is a wall with a Wooden Boats calendar and a few postcards with boats. There is a turquoise wastebasket in the corner. To your left is a NOSB calendar, and, above that, a pair of bright orange cardboard sunglasses with salmon on them (also from the NOSB).
My bed is simply a mattress on the floor, usually unmade, and covered in a crocheted afghan in spice colors. There are a few stuffed animals scattered about as well. On one wall there is a map of Mexico, and on another a large piece of interesting fabric that I tried to drape artistically (it didn’t work). Postcards are stuck up seemingly at random. Next to my closet door there is a bookshelf with a rather poor selection of books (all my favorite ones burned, and I’ve only managed to replace a few, most of those being downstairs), my Muses, an alarm clock, and a few other things. The shelf has open ends and there aren’t any bookends, so the books are precariously leaned against each other in a disgraceful manner.
My closet is full of clothes that are rarely folded, plus shoes, jewelry, socks, and bags.
I have two lamps and a heater in my room, plus my alarm clock, so the extension cord is stung across the room, but it’s mostly covered up my books and homemade Risk boards, so it doesn’t matter.

The thing that sticks out next to the door is a covered-up fireplace. It was like that when we moved here, and the only reason I know it was a fireplace is because it lines up with the fireplace in my parents’ room, and the one downstairs. Also, there is a crawlspace above my room and I helped my dad insulate it a few months ago, and we saw a chimney, right there! So, basically, it’s just a big thing that sticks out of the room, but it looks like a regular wall. The stars opposite from the “fireplace” are a radiator (which, unfortunately, doesn’t work).

My bed (twin) is in the upper-left corner, and I have a tall bookshelf in the upper right corner. It has a wide selection of books, alphabetized by author’s last name. All of my clothes are hung up inside the closet (which, strangely, doesn’t have a door. The closet also has a window that leads to a stairwell [my room is in the 3rd floor], which is very strange, because why would there be a window from a closet to a stairs?).

The lower wall, up to the door, has bookshelves. They, too, have books on them, but also have other things, such as stuffed animals, school supplies, origami, juggling balls, etc.

The wall my bed is on is filled with maps — currently, I have two up from National Geographic. One is a map of the world, but since it is a Mercator projection, the top and bottom are very distorted, so I have a map of Antarctica next to it. I used to have a map of Mars, but I took it down because the tape died. Perhaps I’ll put it back up this week.

The wall over the fireplace has a watercolor painting of a sailboat sailing in a sunset, and beneath that is the poster us Kokonventioneers received from the AAAS (called “Milestones of Science.” The wall near the door (which all the bookshelves are against) has several more watercolor paintings of sailboats and a big bulletin board over one of the bookshelves. It is covered in Muse and MuseBlog things. The MA bumper sticker, some pictures from the Kokonvention (including the infamous pie battle between Robert and Rosanne), a screenshot of Robert’s Lightbulb Joke, and some other random things.

My walls are covered in wood paneling, which can make it quite dark in the winter because it doesn’t reflect back any light. Since my room is on the top floor, the ceiling isn’t flat — it is angled and shaped like the roof. Hanging from my ceiling light is a Chinese Lantern, and my ceiling is covered in constellations made from glow-in-the-dark stars. My floor is made out of tile (dull pale green with black speckles).

My door has a picture of Bush with red eyes and a Voldemort-nose (intended to make him look like Voldemort) and a big “John Edwards” presidential sign. I should probably take that down, but I don’t have anything to put there instead, and then my door would look so empty. I also have a sign next to the Bush picture which says “Es muy agradable ser importante, pero es más importante ser agradable.” (It’s very nice to be important, but it is more important to be nice.)

That was probably all very boring, but oh well… *sigh*

nother double post. the compter messed up my map so just imagine a rectangular room with a messed up corner. my door and closet are in the north side(bottom of map) and my window is on the south side. it is square with a semicircle on top. it does not fit into the normal ciling so there is a 2 foot spade on the south side athat goes all the way up to the roof so it is pointed. the rest of my ciling is flat. i have chrismas lights hanging from the corner between of thw pointed part of the ceiling and the normal part. i want to paint my walls green. they are currently white. i have a lot of stuff tacked to the walls. it would take a very long time to describe the rest of my room so i will stop. my typing box shrank again. :(

My room is painted 3 colors, orange, green, and a lighter green. It has my guitar, a desk with a note pad and pencil/pen ready all the time, stacks of books covering the floor, the top of my dresser, and my white bookshelf is overflowing with them too. On the desk/nightstand behind my bed, the flowers I’m pressing at the moment sit with tons of text books, dictionaries, and other heavy books on top of them. Beatles posters cover the walls, and my Abbey Road painting is hung above my bed. My trophies, and medals sit atop my bookshelf in a small spot where there are no books. I have a Jack and Jill bathroom that connects my room and my sister’s room. My stack of Muse is on my bookshelf in a magazine holder, though not all of them fit so they are constantly falling and knocking over all the other books on that shelf.

  30. Eccentric the Afterthought (+200 pie points & 7 KAG points) says:

    2 – My summer plans exactly. ;)

    11 – Pantry + bedroom = sounds cozy!

My room is probably about the size of a dorm room, but the walls are at crazy angles because it’s on the top floor of the house. The ceiling is low, which is perfect for me, but there’s a light fixture in the middle of the ceiling that my tall friends always run into. We didn’t finish stripping the paint off the walls before we moved in, so now they’re mostly white, but there’s a big patch on the ceiling and part of the walls where you can see the layers of original wallpaper. I liked the rough spot, so we never repainted after all.

The furniture is pretty standard: shelf, two dressers, bed, nightstand, desk, and a random table that ended up in my room because there wasn’t space for it anywhere else. The shelf is metal, but everything else is wood. This house was rented before we bought it, so there are a bunch of names written on my closet door from random people who used to live here.

I like to think my room has a sort of “dreamy gothic pirate ship” theme, but in reality it’s pretty random. So far I have on my walls two full-sized pirate flags, Prague postcards, other odd postcards, ribbons from KJCL and NJCL, fliers from local shows, pictures from magazine ads, decorative plates, a chart of New Zealand sheep breeds, anime posters, pictures from various crazy activities with friends, quotes, maps of Prague and Paris, album covers, band logos, pictures of favorite authors (Lovecraft, Gaiman, Bulgakov, etc.), a poster of kittens on a bookshelf, horror movie posters, pictures of horror characters, a bunch of Lovecraft-related items (“vote for Cthulhu” bumper stickers and such), a purple plastic skeleton, comic strips (Pearls Before Swine, XKCD, Lio), etc. The door has three signs on it: “Aussie aussie aussie oi oi oi,” Kiwi crossing, and a “keep out” sign with the various ways of saying it in Australian slang.

Most of the decorations are on the walls, but I do have two lawn gnomes set up by the door and a sailor statuette and carved wooden platypus on my desk. Other than that, there are usually lots of books, notebooks, school papers, and clothes on the floor. I am not tidy.

Anyway, my room is pretty much a square with a closet on the far corner. There is also an open entryway into my sink and then the bathroom, in which my sister and I share. The most distinctive feature is my bed (takes up most of the space). The space around the pillow is entirely covered with stuffed animals. I collect them, you see. I have 2 dressors on either side of my bed and another window/ dresser thing. I don’t really know what it is, but I fill it with my art stuff. I have several posters on my wall. (my favorite is “Peas on Earth” its so cute!) However, I also have a lot of blank space on my walls because I have several prints that I want to put up but haven’t gotten around to it.

any additional space is taken by the large desk, the large bedside table and the large pillow that have fallen off my unmade bed. i do have a rather large walkin closet but the floor of that is covered with 4 stuffed laundry hampers, 2 walls have drawers for the clean laundry, 1 wall is covered in books and the last wall is of course the door.

  37. Midnight Fiddler (she of the 2 spdzk and 500 PiePoints) says:

Perhaps I should have explained my room better….
My room is not actually a room, it’s a small building separate from the house. I live in a 500 sq. foot one room house, so a few years ago I “moved out” into what we called the wash house. (because in a tiny house like ours there’s no where to put a washing machine.) We cleared out a lot of stuff from the wash house, and with a few transitions it’s become my room as I have it now.
The building is a rectangle, with large windows on either side. It has a porch on the front, with peeled tree trunks for support and two hammocks. (The outside is painted a dark brown, like the house)
There is a screen door, and then a wooden one that has turned all silvery in the weather. Entering through the door you see directly in front of you a large bookshelf (made of walnut) over the queen sized bed on the left hand side of the room. At the foot of the bed is a blue colonial style trunk, usually with a few straw hats and books piled on it. In the space between the wall and the trunk there is a wooden crate turned on it’s side to make a small book shelf/table, on that is an alarm clock, camera charger, lime green fan (in summer) and a handful of pencils.
Behind the door (when it’s open) is a small table pushed up against the walls with two violins cases and a concertina stacked on top of each other (and my shoebox of Muses underneath the table) and a mountain dulcimer case propped up next to it between the table and a denim beanbag chair fondly known as “The Butt Trap” when in service, but it’s commonly covered in clothing, books and heaven’s knows what.
On the right side of the room as soon as you enter the door is a large shelf for canned foods, (this is where the pantry part kicks in) it is covered in a pretty blue and green striped fabric. Just past that is a rubbermaid container for storage and a box of squashes in it. Then comes my desk, an elegantly carved walnut piece from Pakistan that I use mainly for storage of my papers, pencils, a few books, and other items that would otherwise be lost somewhere else. In front of that is a box in which I store my shoes, which are constantly overflowing and creating a tripping hazard. Moving toward the back of the room is the washing machine, above that is another shelf with more canned foods on it. Farther towards the wall are a few lard cans with dried/preserved foods ion them, and another bookshelf that is made out of bricks and recycled plastic boards that I keep my schoolbooks and overflow on.
The walls are, as I said before, covered mainly with horse posters, and a few Colonial Williamsburg buildings with one tall ship, and a few pictures that my Mom’s friends drew for me. (A beautiful one with the Chinese symbol for “to listen” and a horse) I also have some paintings, some were just there because there wasn’t anywhere else for them, and one is of HPBs. :)

One of the windows is covered with a bulletin board that has pictures and postcards from different pieces of my life; a picture of myself and another interpreter at Jamestown, some postcards of the ships there, pictures of the Zodiac, pictures of Circles, MuseBlog items designed by Lady B. and a picture of a ship that she sent one time and a few other bits and pieces from different things I like to do.

    oh, we’re doing intense descriptions?

my room is ginormous and very rectangular. My bed is on the end by one of the windows, running the long way. Next to it is a three-shelf bookshelf on one end and a random shelf that i use as a bookshelf on the other end. My amp is usually plugged in along there but at the moment it’s down in the basement. I also have my ipod and phone chargers in that general area. Moving along, there’s another window on the right side as you’re facing the bed, with a little kind of indentation or something ruining the rectangle shape slightly. In that little corner is my music stand (which is covered with music, hats, bags, scarves, pins, and anything else it can hold), a beanbag and a few pillows, and usually a bass guitar but that is in the basement along with the amp. Right next to that area is my desk, which is absolutely covered in old homework, random papers, cds, and pretty much anything else i want to throw on there. Same with my dresser, which is right across from it and usually has the drawers hanging out in a way that is guaranteed to vex my mother greatly. Somewhere in between those is a rolling chair (an extremely squeaky, small one without armrests, but what can you do?) which usually has a pile of clothes and maybe a few library books on it. Next to my desk i have yet another three-shelf bookshelf, and across from that is the door. On the end of the room is my actual bookshelf, the big one. Next to that bookshelf is another door that goes into a tiny room with two kind of shelves or steps or something that i use sometimes to sit on (when it’s not freakishly hot in there, which is most of the time) or more often to throw random things on. On the other end of that little closet-y room thing is another door leading to the attic.

Aaand, that’s my room. i think i got most of it, but i’m actually in the basement right now so i can’t really tell. Oh, and the whole room has sloping dorm ceilings (if you couldn’t tell already from the attic thing, it’s upstairs)

    35) The crowdedness of your closet reminds me greatly of my own. Not that the stuff is mine. When we moved into our house, my mother decided that my closet was the place to store all of my sister/step sisters clothes that they couldn’t wear anymore. So, my closet is filled with stuffed boxes that aren’t even mine. I barely have room for my own clothes. *thinks about a trunk full of boxes going to Goodwill*

My room is an odd sort of shape, with a high ceiling and beams across it. It’s all purple, with purple butterfly wallpaper. The bed is a queen, and it has a fluffy green blanket covered in kitty fuzz. There’s a tall green bookshelf with tons upon tons of books, and next to that is a green chair with a feathery pillow. Next to the chair is my radio. Then at the foot of the chair is an ottoman with musical notes all over it. There’s a bunch of shelves next to the closet, taking up the entire wall, and the shelves are covered in stuffed animals and pictures of my friends. The closet has 2 bulletin boards attached to the doors, and they are covered with interesting artifacts. Inside the closet, there is a back wall and it’s covered in posters of all shapes and sizes (Happy Bunny, Harry Potter, Jack Sparrow…) Then after the closet, you get to my door, then a shelf covered in magazines (Muse included :D)

And that’s pretty much my room.

My room is medium-small, with light pink walls and a white ceiling. I have plastic glow in the dark stars all over the ceiling, but sometimes they fall off and I have to sit on my bed to tape them back on. My bed is a loft with a blue starry comforter and a really messy desk underneath. I have three shelves dedicated completely to my collection of plastic dinosaurs. I have two windows with blue sparkley-ish curtains. During the school year, my backpack and homework are on the right side of my desk while my duffel bag for xc or track is on the left. And that’s it… no wait. I have an ancient dresser that pretty much takes up the whole south wall. I put dinosaur posters over most of the wall space, and NOW that’s it.

There are two bookshelves on the wall, full of random junk I missed putting in boxes, an overstuffed closet, a beanbag, a fan, a mattress on the floor, and a stool with all my current library books leaning against/stacked on it.

On the other hand, my sister is a terror. She never makes her bed, and worst of all, all of her clothes are on the floor. Her dirty clothes are dumped in her bathroom, while her clean clothes are dumped in my room, forming 2 huge “clothes mountains”. Sometimes, it gets to the point that the mountains are so big that you can’t see the floor. Half the time, my sister 2 dressers remain empty, all of their contents strewn elsewhere. Plus, she never cleans her sink. although, she is paid every month to clean all of the bathrooms in the house. I stopped trying to get her to clean my sink a long time ago and just did it myself. I think she’s finally cleaned by now, since she’s leaving for colledge now. In “Truly, Madly, Deeply” and “S&S” Rickman was still in his 40s — ancient to some, but believe me, a great decade in many respects, especially for male pulchritude. Females, too, for that matter. Old enough to have that “lived-in” look. When I was in my teens many of my favorite drool-overs were already dead before I was born or before I was old enough to drool for the right reasons…erm, *regains composure*

My room is dark green, has three windows, a closet, large ugly awesome antique desk, an old bed that belonged to my mother a LONG time ago, two bookshelves (one that has books/junk and the the other just has junk), a dresser, a Thing That Has Stuff In It, yeah, that’s about it. I have sound foam on my walls which I pin things to, mostly xkcds and things I find funny at the moment. There’s not much else at the extended moment. There is a mess on EVERY flat/horizontal surface. My parents call it the fire trap and refuse to go in there. I scare them by running in there at full speed and jumping onto the bed. That stunt will eventually ram the bed into the wall or I’ll mess up and run into the wall/pile of junk/map. *grin*

Hmmmmmmmm. My favorite store of all time is Ed McKays. This store is AWESOME! They are a used book/CD/movie/DVD/poster store. So, they sell tons of stuff that’s hardly been used at all and is EXTREMELY inexpensive! I mean, for example, I got 4 books the last time I went for 8 dollars, and one of them was a hardback! And they were all in perfect condition! Another thing I love about Ed McKays is that you never know what you’ll find. I mean, they have such good business that what they have one day is entirely different then what they will have the next day.

    177) Hmmmmmmmmm. Well, it depends on your interests. Of course, the periwinkle kind of throws everything off. It also depends on how much you are willing to put into this and how good at art you are, in which I have no idea.
An idea I would have would be some kind of landscape. Perhaps a city or a valley. Something like that. Actually, the first thing that popped into my head was Venice, but I don’t know why. But that would be very difficult.
The one bad thing about murals are that when you paint them on your wall, you’re stuck with it. You can’t just ball up the art and throw it in the trashcan if you don’t like it. That’s why I like paintings better. But that’s just me.

I went shopping today. Has anyone heard of the brand Sandwich_? It’s very good. i used two hundred and fifty (fifty dollars) in a Sandwich_ store, and then a thousand two hundred kroner (two hundred and forty dollars) in some other stores. I am happy. I really just love shopping for stuff, becaus ewhen i shop, it’s stuff that is too creative for other people. You guys should see me. i get into discussions with the cashiers about prices. ”Look at this dress. It’s spring collection. It’l be out dated next spring. the fall collection just came in. you should give it to me for half price as a favor for taking it off your hands.” It doesn’t always work, but it’s fun.

I love my new clothes. Two pairs of jeans with extremely high waists (they button up past your belly button) a tunic- sleavlessjacket mix, five shirts (one with black beetles on), etc…..

205~ I have jeans that I’ve been wearing for at least 2 years. My oldest (and favorite, ): ) pair of 4 years or so gave out a few months ago…..I’m considering patching them up and still wearing them, and yes, they still fit! (They were loose when I got them, now they fit perfectly! Or would if I fixed them.)

I usually can’t stand shopping. Actually, it’s a rare time when I actually like it, especially shopping for clothes. I hate finding clothes and then having big dramas over what I think I should be wearing and what my mom thinks I should be wearing. (Although I must say that’s she’s getting over the idea that I should dress just like her, I like her clothes on her, but I hate them on me.)
Usually when I get “new” clothes it’s from Goodwill, Act II, or a free box, or Musery loves company, now. My shirt collection is gradually weighing in favor of muse themes….although today I’m wearing an old rag that I got for free at a yard sale and have had for a bazzillion years. And the writing on it still makes no sense.

Bookstores are definitely the way to go when shopping.
