hopefully first post! nice pic.
First post?……maybe?
It did not snow today, but it was brutally cold. And I had to walk home. *goes to make hot chocolate*
okay, now for a real post. I adore the picture Lady B. Your creations seem extra wonderful as of late.
Luna(on last thread) I’m so glad school’s going well for you. Education after Highschool worries me. Your angel-deamon sounds wonderful.
I’m watching ‘america’s most wanted’ with my brother. It’s fascinating.
Haha! That’s a great pic. Lady B! You are truly amazing.
I’m showing MB to my friend Hannah. She think’s its random, but she likes the new graphic.
I drew two more pictures with the robot girl today. In one, she’s asleep in bed, holding a teddy bear and plugged into a machine with a screen that says “charging”. In the other one, she’s using jets in her feet to put a star on top of a Christmas tree while this mad scientist guy (her “dad”) hands her more ornaments.
I love the picture, Lady B!
6- Awsome… OH I wish I could see them.
I love the pic too.
SFTDP (4-6 weren’t up yet).
4–college really isn’t that bad. I mean, everybody says that it is so much harder, but overall, I’m doing no worse than in highschool. I wouldn’t worry too much about it!
Yeah, my angel-demon is wonderful. He’s very sweet, loves to cuddle (on his terms, of course), has a great personality, loves to tear around the house top speed, and likes to shred newspaper/cardboard/anything left on the floor if it is any form of paper (not so sweet, but funny!). As long as dad never learns about Gandalf’s couple of adventures where he a) licked/chewed all over the raw hamburger thawing for dinner once (mom still used it) and b) when he ate a whole bunch of a stick of butter that was on the table (mom trimmed that, so it didn’t look touched, and still used it, and not even just in cooked stuff…..) but yeah, he is a very sweet cat, and I love him very, very much. He’s grey, by the way (hence the name Gandalf) with medium length fur, and very, very fluffy, but not fat (although with his fur, he sometimes looks it). And he would eat constantly (and eat anything and everything) if given the option.
Are there wreaths from all of the Muses?
.4/9 – The difficulty of college totally depends on where you go to school. I mean, I’m sure you could find challenges anywhere, but I think challenging coursework would be easier to find at say, Yale, rather than UIndiana. College work is what you make of it. *shrug*
I’ve been so busy recently. High school teachers assign too much homework. Anyway, I have a band concert tonight (ouch). I hope we sound okay. And then next week we have reseating auditions, and I’m probably going to move down at least one chair, so I really have to practice.
I love the graphic…………….
Kewl wreath. There’s a dude in the town mills (they’ve been converted to art studios) who makes really cool stuff out of random things, and he used computer boards like that for lamps one time. He makes some awesome stuff. There’s this one scuplture where he coated barbies in plaster and put them in a box made out of old windowpanes, and they’re half buried in popcorn… so cool…
14- That’s where Barbies belong… I hope the sculpture is outside in extreme weather conditions…
Okay I have a question. Why is the evil emoticon a cat? Oh. They’re horns? They better be….
I’m feeling very hostile today.
6-I want to see those pictures… Send them to the GAPAs, and they can post them on the Drawing thread!
Cool graphic… Ohhh, those are circuitboards! I thought they were dollar bills, for some reason….
Nice picture. Are the iPod-looking things iPods?
.11 tru dat
lovely picture rebecca!
I love the wreath Lady B.
16-I thought they were dollar bills at first too.
6-I’d like to see the pictures too.
What a lovely mechanical wreath, Chad!
16- I second your motion!
17- Look at the back of your computer. Aye?
Eclectical wreath! Nice picture!
*sigh* 7 more days. I’m stuck here for seven more days. It feels like an eternity…..which is stupid, really. We have no more classes, except for finals. Tomorrow is “reading day”, so it’s an extra day for us to do nothing but study…….great fun.
I’m going to be spending most of the next three days studying my butt off for my calc final on Monday. It is my only cumulative/comprehensive exam (with the exception of the biolab final I had today), and it covers around 7 chapters of material. I’m really not looking forward to it, although I really needn’t worry, I can do really poorly and still pull an A, but…..I am a bit like Hermione, i worry even though I have no reason too. So, I will probably be spending the vast majority of my time Fri/Sat/Sun studying my butt of for calc.
And then Monday, I will probably take a break and study bio for the lecture exam, and of course take my calc final, and study bio some more, as the exam is first thing Tuesday morning.
Then Wednesday, I don’t have any finals, so I will spend the day (or part of it, anyway) studying for my geog final on Thursday…..of course, I will probably study for it Tuesday, after bio, too……
ugh. such an enjoyable, fun filled week I have ahead of me, no?
ah, well. hopefully it will pass quickly, and I will soon be home…..
Love the wreath!
12 – We had a band concert tonight too! I had a solo in Variations on Scarborough Fair, and I think I did okay, although half the band/me and half the band got a measure off for a few seconds at one point. The Percussion Ensemble were really good, and the Symphonic band were as well, although I didn’t like their pieces as much.
I think I’m becoming a hobbit. In addition to my comparatively short stature (I’m 5’8″, still) and sort of hairy feet, today I went outside and fetched the mail with no shoes on. There’s no snow on the ground, but it is pretty cold.
I realized today how irritating I find the phrase “the official unofficial _____.” It astounds me how anyone can be so arrogant to declare themselves the one and only official unofficial thing. For every “official unofficial” thing out there, there must be dozens of unofficial things that make such claims.
Ahhh, I remember the old days when we only got one random thread per month. We made it last, too, none of this filling it up in 10 days. And when we wanted to go to the thread, we had to walk 6 miles uphill in mud up to our eyeballs.
I need to write this down somewhere. I consider myself a deeply flawed human being and that I don’t really ever let anyone see my true self. I don’t think I even know what my true self is.
That is an awesome wreath! Thanks, Chad (Lady B.)!
Hello everyone. How are you all?
Red-tailed HAWK
(25) Grant — True self? As THF, the blog’s resident Buddhism expert, will tell you, Buddhists would say not to worry about it, because there is no such thing.
(21) You got it, Vendaval. I photographed the computer back and the phono plugs at Costco. Did some snipping and colorizing.
The circuit boards were trash from a computer repair shop, loaned to me with some hesitation by a guy who clearly couldn’t decide whether I was a harmless fruit loop or dangerous nutjob but decided to humor my request. Who could blame him? Not every day a strange woman comes in your shop and spends half an hour photographing circuit boards from every conceivable angle and in assorted groupings.
I used two or three of the group shots, and also chopped pieces out of some others, most notably for the bow.
The light used for the bow is the LED in my desktop mouse as seen from underneath. The rest was touching up color, adding shadows, and figuring out what to use for background.
27- That’s a thought that scares me. What if my entire personality is nothing but a series of elaborate pretenses and I don’t even exist?
29 – I’ve had that feeling too.
Not necessarily pretenses — maybe it’s a series of illusions. Or perhaps a personality is something that can be seen from the outside, by other people, but not from inside. If so, then worrying about not having one is like worrying about not having wings: It would be nice to have them, but it’s not worth losing sleep over. If the Buddhists are right, which they may very well not be.
Ah, the light from the LED in the computer mouse! I wasn’t sure what that was. Clever!
25- Cool! Hobbits seem to be pretty swell. I wish you luck on your attempt to discover (or entirely reject the idea of ) true self.
Holy wung, Lady B. You’ve really got to stop being so yellowed buckteeth.
I like the mouse-LED bow! They look like an extra-luscious clump of holly berries.
(33) Moi-hahahaha. Merely one of my many alter egos.
Cool ! Can the next thread have a kokopelli pie wreath ?
YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT’S A SNOW DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Awesome picture, by the way.
WE HAVE A SNOW DAY TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It’s supposed to be five inches.
Sweet wreath, Chad.
SNOW DAAAAAY!!!!! Yes!
Hey peary, you’re in Central New York too, right? It’s supposed to be 10 inches here!! Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! No schooooooooool!!
38) No fair ! We only get a snow day if it’s at least 3 feet (i.e. no until this planet hits the next ice age)… Buhu !
OMG! My grandparents just got here to see me perform! *is freaked* They live 12 hours away! And the other ones, who live in Chicago, are flying in. I pretty much had no idea.
28- The wreath looks very cool! Today I drew a “family portrait” of the robot girl, the mad scientist, Astro Boy and Maria from the movie Metropolis. Astro and Maria are her “parents”.
25- I wish I was 5’8″, but then again I’m not a guy.
I just took an exam. and I cannot say that I am cerain I passed. It was so hard. And I studied hard. I knew my stuff. But I couldn’t do it.
42–I’m very nearly 5’8″. 5′ 7 1/4″ to be exact.
I hate exams like that–where you study, and you know the material, and then the exam asks impossible questions, that no amount of studying oculd have prepared you for. evil teachers. What was the subject, if you don’t mind my asking?
@43 – Stop taunting me with your wonderful tallness!
I am 5’2″. If that. And not that much younger.
Actually, funny thing about me: I do not know what size clothes I wear, not my shoe size, nor my weight, nor [mostly] my height.
It’s kind of cool, but really inconvenient.
Also, snow day post number four.
/gradster(1)/ – Secretary of Bureaucracy of the ASAP
And OH, Rebecca – are you sure those are phono plugs? Looks like RCA jacks to me.
Or are they the same thing?
/gradster(1)/ – Secretary of Bureaucracy of the ASAP
Curse all of thee, with thy snow days. It snowed everywhere in the South yesterday- except here. Here it rained. Hard. We got the remnants this morning. We can only get out for Hurricane Days, and those are no fun.
Man, I leave for a couple months, and this blog looks like a totally different place! Well, guys, I’m not staying, so please don’t try to get me into any stories, or anything, but I’m now on break, so I’ve got a free month! Now all I have is Economics and Vocabulary at home…
I’ve applied to colleges: Hillsdale College, Grand Valley State University, Aquinas College, and University of Dayton…we’ll see how that goes.
I’ve been doing pretty good, otherwise…has anyone been in my area, lately? Are any of my generation even still here??
47 – Shadowkat! Hello! Long time no read!
Oh, and I’ll be 18 in March (*sob*)…I’m not sure why I’m not excited, but here it’s kind of a sad thing, because you can no longer be…someone else. It’s like you have to let go of your childhood…*shudder*…but, oh well. All good things must come to an end.
(49) Who says? I’ve never stopped being someone else. Sometimes many someone elses. As for letting go of one’s childhood, well, some of us have failed to do that, too.
Nice to see you, Shadowkat!
Hello Shadowkat! Good luck with your school search.
48-Haha! I know, it has been a long time…looks like since May…wow. Sorry, guys.
50-Well, I suppose…thank you for the encouragement…and it’s nice to see you, too! Are there any upcoming Kokonventions planned? Have I missed any entirely?
51-Thanks! Are you doing the same? Or are you too young (sorry, I can’t remember…)?
Hey S-Kitty! Yeah, it’s been a while… nice to see you around for a bit, anyway, even if you’re not staying.
49–here, as in MuseBlog? or here as in where you live?
I’ll be 19 this coming March *shudder* but I am still clinging resolutely to my childhood, despite being a college student. *even bigger shudder*
Good luck with all your college apps and all that “fun” getting ready to be a college kid stuff!
46 – Yeah, we had torrential downpours all day yesterday too. What I wouldn’t do for a blizzard…
56 – What I wouldn’t do for a torrential downpour.
(56) I kept thinking the same thing as I watched the deluge. A few years ago about this same time a similar downpour turned into an exciting ice storm. With yesterday’s temps close to 70, no hope of anything but wet this time. NCwintersbleh.
58 – 70??? I am so jealous of you guys. We have about 5 inches of snow out front on our patio chair. And it’s only early December: the true snow comes February-ish.
Speaking of torrential downpours, we had one. It was freezing.
My computor was being strange, so I just got on.
Interems today. I’m mostly Bs, but a sprinkling of As and one C. Which should rise very soonish…
It rained like heck here last night. My room is on the top floor, right under the roof, and it kept me up.
YAY! FRIDAY! Hello MB! Tis a loverly evening! and my sister’s come home for Christmas!
43- That’s hilariouse! I am exactly the same hight!
47- I missed you Shadowkat!!
*is watching Santa Clause is coming to Town* It is a charming movie. It has the voices of Fred Astair and Mickie Roonie. *has never seen it before*. I am feeling a bit under the weather. Ofcourse eating didn’t really help. Kagy’s tummy feels gross. *bleeeeagh* I have not felt like this since for ever ago.
*wipes away tears* That was a wonderful movie.
Shadowkat!
Britney Spears is coming here.
I’m so going.
Haha, watch all my friends come secretly and we bump into each other while moshing to “Piece of Me”.
And now Shadowkat…. This month is becoming an old-MBer reunion. I know you, Shadowkat, even if you don’t know me… I joined in August, and read a lot of old threads. *is getting rather sick of saying this*
Wait, why are you not staying? Stay, Shadowkat! We’re losing too many long-time MBers!
HI, Shadowkat. Glad that you’re alive and well.
I know what you mean about turning 18. I had the sort of feeling you describe a few years later – when I was graduating from college. On graduation day I just couldn’t stop thinking about how real life was beginning and that it was bound to be way more stressful than life so far. Farewell to happy childhood, etc., etc.
Luckily, things have gone much better than I expected.
I agree! Just because you’re 18 doesn’t mean you can’t still have fun! And MB is fun. I mean, one can always be a child at heart.
Hey Shadowkat! When I turned eighteen (that is a weird thing to say. I feel even older now. Fortunately I’m still eighteen until April.) someone mentioned that she felt ‘cleverly disguised as a responsible adult’ which seemed to make sense to me.
59- You wanna trade weather? It’s only snowed here once in history. Twice if you count the Ice Age.
Major Astronomical Announcement
If you have a clear sky at the moment, look to the night sky! The moon is very bright. It is full tonight, and is at its perigee, meaning it is closer to Earth than it has been all year.
It’s really cool. It is noticeably brighter out because the moon is closer and brighter!
It’s nice it came on a Friday, too!
Red-tailed HAWK
58 – Yes, I remember the ice storm. (North Carolinian as well.) That was… 2002, right? I was about eight, but I remember it pretty well… shiny everything, hearing trees blowing up, and no school for a week and a half.
.47 hello shadowcat
Tip: If you’re in the middle of finals or otherwise doing a lot of sitting and work put on a song you like and dance energetically to it. It helps a lot. I just danced to Chow Down from the Lion King Broadway soundtrack.
*dreamy sigh* Iove the iPod touch. *wants* Pity my current one works fine…
Anyway, I ♥ the picture.
If you stay up past 12 AM and wake up because of your alarm clock at 6:30, are you tired?
Yes. You are. Caffeine???
Re- Weather: It rained for about five minutes yesterday in fourth period. And I was all cooped up in Pre Algebra. Snow? Psh. FORGET IT.
63: I have this thing with my stomach were I’m hungry and I eat, and even after I eat it still feels hollow, like I need to burp or vomit. It happened and stopped a couple of months ago, but it came back yesterday, when I was at a gem fair in Costa Mesa. I bought a silver acorn ($4.50), a beaded rainbow-ish butterfly ($5.00- all profit goes to girls in Guatemala), four beaded cell phone charms- a turtle, a penguin, a squirrel, and a pig ($4.00 in all), and a peace sign necklace with a braclet ($6.00). So, I spent $19.50. I had a $20 budget, so I had .50 cents to give back to my mother.
HG&D is getting worse. It’s CO-ED. Yesterday they gave us a worksheet with girls’ parts on one side and boys’ parts on the other. (When we got to ‘penis’ the boys giggled like heck) Then they gave us a list-thingymabobber and made the class say which part, male, female, or both? IT WAS NOT FUN. IT WAS UNPLEASANT.
(77) Caffeine? What’s wrong with just going back to bed? Sleep all weekend if you need to. (I’m a big fan of sleep.)
77- You think that’s bad? Well, guess what everyone!!! The entire state of NH has no power (with the exception of half of a town near mine and some obscure town up north). And like half of Maine and a chunk of Vermont. Fortunately we have a fireplace and are able to keep warm and toast stuff (my mom even invented a mechanism to make tea over it ) but it is DARK at night. Like, pitch black save for a few little candles and mini flashlights we found in the basement. (I read the muse article about how dark it is at night and I was like… wow… they’re right…) but it REALLY sucks because there aren’t any gas stations that work because electricity is needed to work the pumps. Wal-Mart is open, and my parents are out getting survival supplies. The worst part? OUr town apparently isn’t a ‘priority’ town, so our power won’t be on until the middle of next week. My friend’s pipes exploded and her basemen’t flooded with freezing water, and the electricity guys haven’t even called back (It was actually pretty funny; her brother was paddling about in her kayaks in the basement, trying to patch up the pipe leak XD So funny). Our hot tub might explode (no joke here). I think I’m going to camp out at my friend’s house, because her apartment building is like the only building in a 30 mile radius with power. She’s been calling a bunch of people in our group of friends on our cell phones inviting us over… I was all “YES!!! SWEET INTERNET!!!!!!!!!” I stayed over last night, and I’m begging my parents to go over again after soccer. So… I might not be posting too too much (there’s only so much internet time with 5 caffienated girls trying to check their email at once!) but I just wanted to vent. Oh, and Syllabub won’t have power either, so don’t expect many posts from her.
I hate ice storms.
78: *appalled* I can’t sleep all weekend! I have two soccer games today, and another on Sunday! (we’re in the regionals!) And anyway, I wouldn’t get any time on here if I slept in, and I would disrupt my biological clock.
77 – I didn’t sleep at all last night, because I’m sick and my sore throat and stuffy nose kept me up all night. And I’m about to leave for an orthodontist appointment, where they will probably tell me I need braces.
I slept last night, but just barely. It was very comfortable in Liss’s room, but her cat kept waking me up. And I was kind of worried about my family… so that was on my mind…
I haven’t slept well the entire past week. I think it must be stress about all my finals or something that are keeping me awake, but dang, what I wouldn’t do for a solid night’s sleep. And ordinarily I would sleep in (as if I hadn’t slept in already, it beign eleven and all, but I was up til 1, and that’s not counting how long it was before I “slept”) a lot longer, like until 12 or 1, but……I must study for my finals.
79–aw, I love power outages! They’ve always been something I’ve greatly enjoyed, although admittedly, I’ve never been in one that lasted more than a day, max. Although plenty have been in winter (hide and seek my flashlight is so much fun when you are little!)……but, yeah, I can definitley see how that long of an outage, especially in winter, could get old and very unpleasant very fast. Hope it comes back on soon!
54-Well, I can’t stay…but I’ll drop in from time to time…I mean, it’s not like I could ever forget this place. Hey, guess what?
General MB Announcement: When I get my own license plate, I’m going to try to make it “SHDWKAT”, so if you see that plate, I’m behind the wheel…so, just pull up next to me and make a peace sign, and I’ll catch on, lol.
55-Um, has anyone been in MI, and is my generation still on MB? But I guess that question’s been answered.
63-Aw, thanks! I’ve really missed all of you…there’s always something to remind me.
65-TMFA! Haha…have you seen the PPP thread? Well, I’ll just go check.
67-Sorry, I really can’t; I just don’t have time. I’m taking 18 credits at OCC next semester…yeah.
68-Lol, yeah, me too (about the whole “alive and well” thing)…hm, are you still childish (in a good way)? I mean, you’re an Admin., here, I figure you have to have some amount of childishness…
72-Actually, it’s even better than that. The moon is closer to Earth now than it’s been since 1993…
84- what is your generation? Do I count? I’m gen 0 (I was e~a in case Oxlin doesn’t ring a bell)
Why is the december -phtes thread closed ? (sure, we scared away all potential MBers, but we had a great time…)
86- They got angery at us…somthing about phyte threads are for the phytes…. too bad.
*pouts* I guess we have to find another thread… Well, maybe we can try religions ?
88)wait there’s a religons thread? And are we on at the same timeish? Because if so!!!!!!!! Wow! what time is it there? it’s 2:30 here.
72)its always going to get closer and closer and closer and… you get it. Just really slowly. Apparently the sun will blow up before the moon hits the earth. *looks scared* Anyways it was really cloudy last night but there was this one point when the moon shone THROUGH the clouds and it was amazingly creepy and pretty.
89) I’m sure there is one somewhere…Â
It’s 8:41 here ( I messed up: Europe is six hours late, not early)
90) I’ve never really nderstood that. I mean if you’re early what does that mean? If your late? I need pictures but unfourtantly ou can’t draw a picture of somthing like that. can you?
77- just grin and bear it. I had to go through those classes too. We never really considered it that big a deal that it was co-ed. Actualy, depending on the teacher they can be almost fun. or at least funny.
79- except for the exploding pipes, it really doesn’t sound so bad….
80- go to bed early then. That’s what I do if I really need the sleep. Your body will thank you.
I always find it scary when the moon is orange. I generaly go to bed pretty early. 8:30-9:00. Except for on the weekends and when I am studying over the phone with people. Weekends I generaly go to bed somewhere between 10 and 12. which is stupid because I need more sleep than that. Often on school nights I will get 10-11 hours of sleep. because really, there is no need for me to be up really late. I’ve got nothing good to do.
91) It means that it’s 6 hours later here than in C.T. I have to go to bed now- g’night.
93) gnight
MY MUSE JUST CAME!!!~! YAY!!!
53 (Shadowkat)- I’m a Junior, so it’s really beginning now. It’s like every time I meet an adult, the ask me my name, age, and what schools I’ve applied to. Well, I haven’t applied to any yet. Any advice on the process?
25~ You’re my dad’s height, that’s not too bad. I’d consider it a very good height for males, in fact. It’s taller than me, but I don’t feel like a complete midget. It’s nice.
I dislike being around lots of very tall people (unless they’re really fun and nice, like Robert and Rebecca!) because looking up peoples’ noses gets old.
And get ahold of yourself, you are not a flawed person. I always, always love seeing you on the blog, and I’m incredibly glad that you’re back. It was a long wait from June (yes, I remember the last time you posted. I missed you.)
I think you’re one of the most interesting, creative, and fun people I know online.
It seems like you often are posting things along the lines of “I’m not good enough” “nobody likes me” and other such things. It’s entirely untrue.
As far as your “true self” people who know me from one place wouldn’t recognize me elsewhere. I go from painfully shy to very outgoing in less than a second.
I often wonder if there’s something severely wrong with me, and whether everyone else in the universe hates me and has been lying to me my entire life. Trust me, I’ve not just been there, I am there. I understand completely.
SHADOWKAT! It’s good to see you again! Urgh, I’ve been bad about keeping in touch. Good to see that you’re alive and well! I’ve not been in the midwest since the summer, when I talked to you last. However, we’re headed up that way again over Christmas for a quick visit. I dunno if I’m your generation or not. Probably not. I think I remember you pieing me when I posted on the ‘phyte’s thread as a ‘phyte.
I don’t even remember what generation I am, 5, I think. Maybe not. I don’t know. Anyway, good to see you again. It would be nice if you stayed on MB, but so be it. We’ll miss you.
Ack. My grandparents are driving me crazy. I’M GONNA DIEEEEEEEEEEE! *collapses* *headache* Trivial Pursuit is the most boring game ever. And we were playing it for TWO HOURS. And my bop-bop (grandpa- SOMEONE couldn’t pronounce “Pop-Pop”) is terrible at Slapjack. I AM SO BORED. Grrrrrrrrrrr.
Today, Mom ordered combat boots from Hot Topic.
And, it was really dark and I was hanging with Taylor, and her cell phone ring tone played which was the Michael Myers theme from Halloween. I was like “holy frick turn it off turn it off”
Hi, Shadowkat. The PPP is a mess.
Oh dear, I forgot in my last post to say something about the wonderful picture that Lady Bunniful made for the thread! It’s beautiful, although not as edible as the last one……
Rebecca, I love your story about going to the store and taking pictures of the various pieces of electrical equipment, harmless fruit loop to be sure! It’s such fun to see the looks on people’s faces when they’re firmly convinced you’re a loony, I’ve had ample time to study that sort of reaction, it’s so nice to read of other people’s adventures of the same type. What a nice feeling to know one is not a lone weirdo in a world of boring normal people. *hugs* Thanks!
Hey, they’ve gotten rid of the Welcome, Neophytes thread! Now it’s just a post saying you can start on any thread. Poor ‘phytes, without a welcoming thread to help them get oriented. MuseBlog will be rather bewildering to them without it.
By the way, why is the post called Welcome, Newcomers? rather than Welcome, Neophytes? Can’t we keep the word?
(99) Thanks, Midnight Fiddler! ‘Twas fun indeed.
I’d say MuseBlog is proof enough that none of us is a lone weirdo.
100–I imagined it was terminated due to us established MBers being unable to stay on topic in the absences (or, come to think of it, even in the presence of) ‘phytes. It seems like every Welcome Neophyte thread recently has gotten filled up with decidedly non-neophytic chatter.
As far as MB being rather bewildering without it, I disagree. The first time I ever visited a Welcome Neophyte thread was long, long after I began blogging (as in, over two years after my first post). when I was a ‘phyte (something I don’t ever really remember being, perhaps we didn’t place so much significance on it back then) I just jumped right in, posted anywhere that looked interesting, and basically just made myself at home without ever visiting a welcoming thread….and without ever reading the rules/HG2MB, either. although I visited those long before visiting a Welcome Neophyte thread.
So, yeah, I have every bit of confidence that today’s ‘phytes will prove just as capable!
SFTDP…..anyway, out of boredom (and to delay going back to studying calculus as long as possible) I just looked it up, and discovered that I lied…..I was, actually, on a Welcome Neophyte thread (by a different name, of course) within my first week of blogging, but….my post had nothing whatsoever to do with neophytism, as the thread had done just like those in recent memory, and gone way, way off track of welcoming neophytes. Basically, my post consisted of enquiring who the heck Chuck Norris was…..
Still, though, I never used a ‘phyte thread for its intended purpose (as a ‘phyte, that is, I think I’ve used it for its intended purpose to welcome ‘phytes during the past few months)!
103 – What was your first blogname?
102- I hate to admit it but I assume much of that little last paragraph was probably directed at me. Especcialy the spelling part because I have NEVER been able to spell that drasted word. It’s too bad becuase it was awful nice welcoming the Nephytes. *sigh*
WHAT??? You got rid of the Welcome Neophytes thread?
Farewell all, I’m off.
I’m reading Breaking Dawn. It’s not horrible, if you don’t mind junk food for the mind, but I’m finishing it as soon as possible so as to be done with it.
Then I can get back to Arcadia by Tom Stoppard……eep.
102-Yeah, but when you joined there were probably something like twenty MBers here and thirty threads open. Now there are… well, a lot more of each. I for one can’t imagine how I would have managed when I was a neophyte without the Welcome thread. If you’re an experienced websurfer it’s one thing, but I’m not and I’m sure that not all of you guys are either. And for the non-‘phytes, it’s nice to go on the thread and see who’s new so that when someone appears out of nowhere you don’t think they’re an alter ego or something (sorry, Cromwell )…. So is this going to be permanent, GAPAs, or is it just for this month? Because if it’s permanent, I think I’m going to…. do something.
I agree with Armanda. What if you just made s promice to NEVER again chat randomly on the Neyopyte thread and let this monstrocity serve as a warning? I personaly wouldn’t. I like the Neopyte thread, even if we can’t talk randomly on it. AND CAN SOMEONE TELL ME HOW TO SPELL THE STUPID WORD!?!
Neyophyte??
Nepyte?????
Neophyte???
Niophyte???
104–my first blogname was Michelle W. I was rather uncreative with the naming……
108–I”m not that ancient of a blogger! There were significantly more than 20 established bloggers, and I joined in the midst of a record huge number of ‘phytes (like 100 in the same month), although I think many of them disappeared as quickly as they appeared. I think the surge was do to the Muse contest, the “take an IAT test and blog about it on MB” contest. That’s when I visited and got hooked…..
And there were more than 30 thread, as well. There were probably as many open ones as there are now.
109–Your next to last spelling is correct. N-E-O-P-H-Y-T-E
Just like it sounds.
109-WHY IS IT THAT PEOPLE FOR SOME REASON HAVE THIS IRRESISTABLE URGE TO SPELL MY NAME ARMANDA?
But, yeah. Sure. I agree with that idea. It’s nice for the ‘phytes to feel they have somewhere specially for them to hang out and have people lavish attention on them, even if some of them might be able to deal with not having a place like that. *signs document promising nevereverever again to chat randomly on the Neophytes thread, even if other people do, which they won’t, having signed this document (hinthint)*
110-Yeah. Well. Sorry…. When did you join, anyway? I can probably look it up, but I’m lazy….
110- oh thanks… actualy if I were to spell it out I would spell it as so:Niopite. but I KNEW that one was wrong. English spellings really don’t work at all. Although that word is latin….
72- I looked at the moon last night with binoculars and it was very clear and bright. I got a very good look at the big craters in the Ocean of Storms region.
There’s been a lot more than thirty threads and twenty MBers for most of MB history.
111–let’s see….my first post was March 20, 2006 on the march 2006 contest thread (the IAT test thread). I believe I’m a gen 6er, having come one day late to be gen 5…..
111- Sorry, if you see the above, just about the only thing I get really lazy about is checking spelling.
113- Sounds interesting, if my neighbor was here we could have looked at it through his super cool telescope when it actulay did come out but he wasn’t and I had to go somewhere anyways.
I wasn’t too overwhelmed when I came to MuseBlog — There was a newcomers thread, but I didn’t post on it right away because it was called, if I’m remembering correctly, “Abandon All Hope, Hiya, Newbies!” I wasn’t quite sure what that was supposed to mean, so I just posted on other threads.
MuseBlog was smaller than it is today (I came on 10 March 2006, Gen. 5), but there were definitely more than 20 people.
Can anyone tell me how you tell what Generation you’re from? Thist would be a Neopyte question but we don’t have a neopyte thread anymore.
118–throughout the course of MB history, various MBers have compiled a list of MBers and there generations. I believe MontgomeryGurl was the first to do this, and later Alice compiled what I believe is the most recent one…..
*does quick search*
Last one was done in June ’07, and there were 13 (14 if you include gen 0, the gaboomba posters) generations at that time, according to Alice’s calculations.
perhaps one day, a blogger with lots of time (or a desperate need to procrastinate on something important) will compile a more up-to-date list……
119- Thank you Luna you truly are lovely. I hahve wanted to say that for SOOO Long thank you for creting the oppertunity
(119) > “desperate need to procrastinate on something important”
LOL. Sometimes I think that’s the only way anything gets done!
120–aw…. *blushes* Thanks, Yoda! You are most welcome, too!
SFTDP….
121 (Lady B)–yeah, that’s for sure. That’s when all my best creative work has been done, is when I’ve been procrastinating on school and scholarship/college apps. My HP fanfic(s), my Quibbler mag (accessory to my Luna costume), my HP trivia game, and all of my HP theories……
I must say… though I do love the wreath and everything YOu’ll be happy… doesn’t have the same effect on me. Maybe I’m just a mean person but I liked the You’ll be sorry… better. And Chad really must have spent alot of time and effort on his gift, I can’t imagine how he felt taking apart his computers just for us. Thank you Chad!
119- do count Gen 0! I like counting!
About 10 minutes ago, I revisited my Generations documents and am working on them right now! I have a big excel chart with every single blogger and what week they posted (I’m calculating weeks in chronological order from when MuseBlog started. So everything counts off from 1 August 2005. For example, this week right now is December 13-19 08.) I’m currently adding all of the new posters since the last time I worked on it. Then, I’ll make another graph and calculate out new generations.
This is a lot of fun. And I think it’s safe to say I’m not getting ANY sleep tonight.
126–am I still gen 6 on your list? or was I lucky enough to get bumped into gen 5?
cool, I do believe you’ve saved me from hours and hours of delaying on geog studying this Tues/Wed……unfortunately, I’ll probably just procrastinate some other way….
92: Fun? FUN?!
*sigh* I can’t believe tomorrow (ok, today, techinically, as it’s two in the morning) is sunday……This three day “weekend” is killing me. I think I’m going to go crazy with having another solid day with no classes/tests/anything, nothing to do except study (because it doesn’t feel right to not study for very long). for the first time since starting college, I wish it were Monday, because then I would be done studying calc, I could just go in, take the test, be done. And of course study biology all day, which will be a very pleasant change from calculus…..I’m going crazy here, I mean, really, really crazy. I’ve decided I absolutely despise the idea of a finals week, and I just want it over! I wanna go home! I want to sleep in my own bed, see my family, and have a REAL WINTER! None of this wacky crap they’ve got here (it was 50 degrees today! FIFTY, in DECEMBER). It’s wrong, and I don’t like it…….
gah, calculus for two days straight (and a third day tomorrow) is truly hell on earth. And consoling myself with the fact that at 5:30 pm Monday, I will be done with it forever really isn’t helping much, given that that seems ages and ages away……And I still have the most confusing calc concept (the one I never quite managed to get down very well, tha tis I understand it, I just don’t ever come uup with the right answer) to study tomorrow. Optimization. If you have taken calculus, you will know what I”m talking about, if you ahven’t…….you don’t wanna know. And I’m not even going to try to explain.
I’ve also gotta study the volumes of solids of revolution, with all the nice loverly complex integrations (these aren’t hard, really, just boring, cuz they’re long, and I’m sick of ’em).
Yeah, anyway, sorry about the long rant, I’m just going really crazy here. And five days seems so very, very long. Five whole more days until I go home. FIVE
gah. *headdesk*
Hahaha I loved SNL last night! HUGH LAURIE ALL THE WAY!
I decided to change the username…hope no one minds…
okay… this is probably jsut a bout the weirdest thing I think I ever said about TV: we just got cable back and I’m depressed. I don’t like TV and now… oh well. My sister will now be doing one of three things a) watching TV b) doing what ever she does on the computer or c) complaining becuase someones makeing her do somthing else.*sigh*
wooo gen 1
I think the only other people are ebeth and bookworm(?)
129) I hope all your exams go well!
131) hey I love tangerines! that is actually a really good username…argh it make me hungry though lol
maybe if you are a museblogger and also a junior/senior/in college you could peruse the College / Universtity / Higher Education thread. or anyone really.
130) I’ve watching ancient SNL episodes from the 70′- and they’re still funny (or I’m just insane). Chevey Chase & Garret Moris are so funny. (spellcheck can’t do names…)
131) well, I didn’t know you as tigerstar, so go ahead.
132) At least you have a TV.
*is bored*
*is still bored*
*goes away*
134) Yeah I guess… If it were up to me we wouldn’t even have that though. I mean I can’t get rid of the computer because I use it alot and do a lot of school work and typeing on it. But the TV is really stupid and useless. You can get the news from a newpaper or the internet. And now the TV is just used as somthing to do when you’re bored. People should read, or write, or go outside.
133–Thanks, Axa!
It’s snowing! YAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Where do you live? Here in Southern California, it’s not even cold enough to put on a jacket.
It’s above freezing: It’s RAINING! YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Currently: I am wearing broken X-Mas lights as a belt.
Is someone seriously doing another MB Generations? Cool. Can’t wait.
139–you’re crazy! How can you be happy that it’s raining in December. I’m sick of this above freezing crap the’ve got going on here at college…..I desperately, desperately want snow……..
138 – I’m jealous.
141 – Argh. I’m living in the wrong state (Minnesota). I hate winter. It’s so cold and dry, the snow is overwhelming, and school only gets canceled if there’s, like, three feet of it.
Another MB Generations thing? Yay!
137- I live in Oregon. It doesn’t snow a lot here, because we’re really close to the ocean, but there’s actually quite a bit today.
141- If you haven’t heard New England had a huge ice strom one of the biggest since 93 or somthing. Unfourtanatly CT is too far south so we got… rain. Lots and lots and lots of rain. I’ve got people telling me to count my blessings that I got rain but I like ice better and snow the most!
lol zallie, you’d go crazy if you lived here. if it even looks like it’s going to rain all the news stations go crazy with STORMWATCH 2008!!
will we get a whole inch or rain??!?! STAY TUNED FOR BREAKING DEVELOPMENTS
and then the next day it is maybe 65 degrees and we all complain about how cold it is.
fsakgagh I meant to say luna in the above post, this is why you shouldn’t reply to two things at once. sorry luna D:
145– an inch of rain require a stormwatch complete with breaking news? oh my gosh that’s crazy…… 65 is….slightly cool summer weather. 70s is preferable, but can feel even a bit hot when it’s nice and sunny.
It’s pretty ridiculous. I mean I complain as much as the next person but mostly I think YAY IT IS RAINING
maybe if has to do with the omnipresent droughts, I don’t know, but everyone is kind of crazy about weather.
147 – And you’d go crazy if you lived here too. The highest temperature I can remember in the summer is… hm… 104?
I hate rain. I really do. It’s not all fun here, it’s all freezing not quite sleet sting your face and make you want to go back inside.
.145 – Haha, you confused me there for a second.
92- My room was a grand total of 30 degrees last night.
152–cozy. I’ve got to imagine that was pretty miserable, no matter how many blankets you were bundled up in……Is it still supposed to be into next week before you all get your power back on? It would seem that with it being winter and all, and the weather being decidedly un-nice for power outages, they might be able to work a little quicker…..
NO SCHOOL TOMORROW!!!!!!!!!! I knew there wouldn’t be, just ’cause they’re wimps around here (and even if there was school, I wouldn’t go), only know it’s icy and there’s actually reason to cancel school. Which they have.
154- Your school was cancelled? Lucky!
The weather around here is about 50 degrees Farenheight at the coldest… during the afternoon…
Has it ever snowed where any of you live? I’ve only seen snow about 2 times in my life. P.S. Is snow fun if it actually snows in your community? If it does for any of you…
I keep putting those elipses (… things) everywhere! But I keep putting them!!!… there goes one…and another…and another…and another…and another…and another…and another…and another…and another…and another…and another…and another…and another…and another…
Whatever!
How many posts did December number one thread reach?
143- This is COMPLETLEY pointless but is Portland in Oregon? I watched a movie yesterday set in Portland. Saving Sarah Cain.
I watched High School Musical 3 today for our end of year outing. I love High School Musical!!!! Especially Ryan Evans!!!! but not in a “celeb crush” way. Then we posed with the cardboard cutouts of Troy, Ryan and Chad.
Does anyone here live in Hollywood/Beverly Hills? That is REALLY cool if you do i am going to live in 90210 when I’m adult!! And walk down the street bumping into famous people like Paris Hilton! Im in American fever after HSM3!!!
You guys really make me jealous, all your snow talk!!! so lucky!!!
It snows properly about once a year, and on a Saturday! but I get my snow fix in august when it’s ski camp!
one more day of school and then it is SUMMER HOLIDAYS!!
Good: I skipped school today
Bad: I have to do my homework
Evil: It isn’t snowing ! I want a white Ginger Bread Day !
SFTDP:
I hate time differences !!!
*needs an excuse not to do homework*
*somebody else be online, please !!!*
97- I enjoy trivial pursuit, although I can never get the questions about the american presidents. But I do think two hours is a bit much.
*should be studying for her exam tomorrow, but is watching Rudolf the Rednosed Raindeer*
I am a gen11 MBer. I have no idea what compelled me to visit MB. I never posted on the neophyte thread. I just snuck in. and no one noticed I was new.
Warning: the following is a protest-y rant describing the reasons that there is a need for being able to post on the neophytes thread.
1): When I first began lurking four months ago, I was overwhelmed. Then I saw the words “Welcome Neophytes!”. As I read the thread, I saw people being welcomed, advice given and questions answered. I almost instantly had a far better understanding of everything on the blog. If the “Welcome Neophytes” thread had not been there and been posted on, I can’t imagine how long it would have taken me to feel comfortable enough to post!
2): Having the neophytes start elsewhere means that everyone will pay much more attention to the conversations already taking place than to the neophytes. This means that they will not be welcomed properly and their questions will go unanswered. The neophytes will then feel ignored and unwelcome.
3): I am concerned that the disappearance of the neophytes thread and thus the decision of where to start may be overwhelming to some potential neophytes.
4): Picture all questions (What is this blog for ? What do you do here? What are Hot Pink Bunnies? Etc.) getting pushed to other threads. To me, the purpose of having a neophytes thread in the first place was so that those questions could be answered in a reasonable way.
5): The neophytes thread has often served as a place where people were gently advised not to use chat speak, not to post pointlessly at random and other things to help keep the blog reasonably under control. Without that, I imagine it will be much harder to moderate and to read threads, with pointless posts and supr anoyin cht spk popping up everywhere.
I understand that the main reason we can no longer post on a neophyte thread is the unrelated topics that pop up. To keep that under control, I suggest making a rule: all non-neophytes’ posts and parts of posts that have nothing to do with welcoming neophytes, answering a question, giving advice or replying to something a neophyte said (thus making them feel welcome) be subject to snipping.
Please consider my points and hopefully make it possible to post on the neophytes threads once more.
Thank you for reading this super-long post.
My name is Cerulean Pyros, and I have approved this
message.
*Steps down from ranting podium*
Well stated, CP. Does anyone else have good things to say about “Welcome, Neophytes!” threads?
156–Yes, there is a Portland in Oregon. And most likely, that was where the movie you watched was supposed to be set. However, there is also a Portland, Maine (and perhaps other Portlands I’ve not heard of).
Summer holidays….that sound so odd to hear in December. (Your from New Zealand, right? Not Australia? Or am I confused…..) I can’t imagine Christmas taking place in a summer, or July being a winter month…..It just seems so strange. but then,I’m sure the other way ’round seems strange to you, so….
161–I’ve nothing bad to say about it, except it does tend to go off topic quite fast…..
161) They give me an excuse to write annoyingly long informative ballads, poems and plays about topics I know nothing about, then form a philosophic and scientific conclusion leaving people none the wiser and a little confused. But hay, socrates did the same thing ( though he was better at it, which had poisonous consequences). Still, I think that why -phytes show up, it can be really informative. we could call it the waiting room though, where phytes wait to be informed and MBers wait to pie (or inform) them.
Here is the official campagne poster:
Save the -phtes thread !
If you want to join the movement, just paste the logo:
Save the -phytes thread
next to your name.
161) I am hereby founding the “Save the -phtes thread” movement. Here is the official poster:
SAVE THE
-PHYTES
THREAD !
Reason: The -phtes thread is not just a simple thread, but a sort of culture. Even though it was often cluttered up by posts, when -phytes came, they were welcomed and their questions answered as best as we could. Even though it’s notorious for going of topic, it did have a certain usefulness. It gave MBers an opportunity to express their welcoming skills- or their social defects. Join the movement by pasting the logo next to your username:
Save the -phytes thread !
SFTDP:
The poster came out wrong:
SAVE THE
-PHYTES
THREAD !
162- When I went to Australia, I went from short-sleeves in New York to heavy coats in Sydney.
165_I agree. However-there should be four rules.
1. No posting when there are no phytes.
2. Q&A only.
3. Make sure no one else answered the question already.
4. Don’t scare them away!!
So….that lab final I was so terrified of last week? I got an 89, so one question off an A. So needless to say, I’m very happy, as that score gives me an A in lab, which is worth 40% of the final grade. I only have to get a 70% on the lecture final tomorrow (that is, I can miss 15 questions) and get an A in the course. Obviously, not too worried about that, as my lowest grade ono his tests so far has been 84 (which got bumped to an 88, cuz everyone did so bad on it).
squee! *is happy*
I am completely indifferent to reviving the neophytes thread.
Thank you, everyone who has said nice things about the “Welcome Neophytes!” threads.
156-Ryan is my favorite, too! I haven’t seen the third movie yet, but I want to. Like Luna, I blinked when I read “summer holidays”. Then I remembered that you’re from the other side of the equator.
161-Thank you, Mr. Coontz! It took a lot of effort to get my ideas straight, but I think it was worth it.
167-Good ideas. However, “Q&A only” would make a simple welcome against the rules, would it not? Maybe it should be “Welcoming and Q&A only”.
I think a thread to help along newbies is an important thing to have but that it should be kept to its purpose.
We tried to keep the WN threads on track, but it appears to be humanly impossible.
166- I did the same thing, going from NY to Sydney, but I found Aus. to be very warm for winter, more like fall. The nights were cold, but I was surprised.
172 -This calls for a robot!
160 – Concur.
.Frankly, I always found the Hello Newbies threads irritating. Newbies never post in the thread, because they’re too intimidated by older MBers listing what not to do and pointlessly posting and pieing. I like what we have now: just a link to the Guide etc.
Regarding the comments about Welcome, Neophytes threads: many of the questions asked on those threads have been answered already in the H2GMB.
The December thread is still viewable; it’s page 1559. You can see for yourself how “effective” we were in corralling off-topic remarks. Not to single out this month or any MBer. The same problem has been recurrent during the history of the thread topic. What could we do differently to prevent the pattern repeating?
Allow me to point out, that the logistics of moderating are such that it takes considerably more time and effort to go back and look to see whether a comment is relevant or not. For example, is a comment an answer to a newcomer’s question or is it introducing a random conversation? That’s often impossible to tell from the moderation queue which funnels all posts from all threads onto one page. Also, unless something flags the content, we may not consciously notice where the comment was posted.
The only way we keep up with moderating without interfering unduly with the jobs that actually pay us is to keep the process running as smoothly as we can. We’d actually be happy if we never had to snip or zap, we’d much rather invest that extra time and effort into other things like posting MBer artwork and NaNo novels or helping out with parties.
172- I think we’re all humbled now. Losing th e’phyes thread makes me sad, and I absolutly PROMICE not to post on it randomly again. Or you could at least cahnge it back to Welcome Neopytes, just because the word rocks.
Come on people!!! The HG2MB is all very well about telling the rules, but we need the phytes thread to tell about the culture! Now phytes might just wander on, not know or care what the HG2MB is, then clutter up the blog with PoPoing and cheatspeak.
Save the phytes thread
Hi, guys!
I’m very sorry I haven’t been around this past week, but my grandmother is back in the hospital and is in dire condition, so we’re spending as much time as we can with her. It’s had to manage everything right now, holiday shopping and hospital visiting and finals coming up after beak. I just needed some time to sort myself out. I’m going through a very hard time right now, and I’m glad I have the blog to turn to for support.
Peace and Pies, Aggie
(179) I’m sorry to hear about your grandmother, Agrrrfishi. That’s even more difficult at holiday time. We’re all thinking of you and hoping for the best.
179- *hugs* *lots ‘o hugs*
178- YEs exactly. The first month I was here my biggest question was what are the numbers. I swear I got absolutly nothing out of them. At one point I tried to see if they were a code. Neopytes need the thread so that they can learn about stuff like this.
Hi!
I wore X-Mas lights to school today.
Nothing else to say…
*is too lazy to read other posts as supper is in about 3 minutes*
I tried to make gelatine free marshmallows. It didn’t work. I have an exam tomorrow and I have not studied enough. I have had a useless day.
.178 – Pointless post seem to come from older MBers just as much as phytes. Just sayin’
179 – I hope she recovers! I’m sorry this is happening; she must be so glad all of you are there for her.
170_No, no welcoming. And just answer their question. No other conversation or reminiscing (I did that too). Rename the thread, too. ‘Neophyte Q&(Short!)A
179 – I’m sorry. -hugs- I hope she’ll get better soon.
SAVE THE PHYTES THREAD
Wait, what’s going on?
.168 yay congratulations! man is that ever a weight off your shoulders or what. I’ve had somewhat situations, suuuuucch a relief.
.179 all my thoughts are with your grandmother and your family! *adds many more hugs to current quota*
179– *hugs, happy thoughts, and well wishes* I’m very sorry, Aggie. I hope she gets better (and quickly), but in the meantime, we’re here for you! *more hugs*
184–long-time bloggers are some of the worst PoPo offenders (although, we’re usually more guilty of leading threads off-topic then true PoPoing, I think). I think we will all agree to that.
188–thanks. And yup, it is a huge relief to have it done with. Just as relieving (or perhaps even more so) is I’m done with my calculus course! We took the two hour final today, and I think I did fairly well on it, and unless I’m very mistaken, plenty well enough to get an A in the course. But, regardless–I’m done with math. Not just this course, but all math courses ever. I don’t have to take another math course my entire life! squee! *is overjoyed*
190- Congratulations. I still have High School and I don’t even know what’s required for college. I don’t like math at all especialy since I don’t plan on useing it when I become a Social Studies/history teacher. All you have to do is averages.
191–I can’t say for sure, but you probably wouldn’t need any sort of advanced math in college for that. I know a lot of majors don’t require any math after highschool, while some require just basic college algebra (really not that bad), and others (like mine, unfortunately, at least at my college) require calculus……Bad luck, on my part.
Eep. that was weird….so I got this flyer in my mail box for some Christmas service at some rock church, and this sentence on the back caught my eye: “Since the beginning, God has had a love affair with people.” Erm, say what? ’twas a rather odd sounding sentence to read…..
Actually, I have no clue how helpful the neophytes thread is as I never had it. So I dunno.
179- I’m sorry. *hugs*
179-I’m sorry, Aggie…. *hugs and cookies*
SAVE
THE
NEOPHYTES
THREAD
!!!!!!
I think that the neophytes thread should be for welcoming ‘phytes and answering their questions only. Maybe for referring them to threads or giving them thread suggestions if they specifically ask for recommendations. Does anyone want to sign my document-petition-thingy:
I do solemnly swear never again to use the Welcome, Neophytes! thread for any purpose whatsoever other than welcoming neophytes and answering their direct [as in ‘can anybody suggest a good RPG?’, not directly like specifically to you] questions.
Armada
That’s all the signatures we have so far. Though I think I can safely assume that YodaShmoda and CP will sign it, I don’t want to do it for them. GAPAs, if we get 20 signatures and those people all agree to educate others about the proper use of the WN thread and fine anyone who posts off-topic on WN choklit, will you open the thread again? P*ease?
195 – Sure, I’ll sign.
195–yeah, sure, I’ll sign, whatever. I never used one, but all of you who were recently ‘phytes seem to think it was helpful, so…..why not?
So, “I solemnly swear that I am up to no good.” Sorry, that’s what your opening sentence (ok, opening four words) made me think of…..*is pottermaniac*
But if you want the GAPAs to listen, you need to ask them right. Don’t you know it’s not “P*ease”, but Pwease? Mwahahaha
(197) Thou art eeville.
198–Mwahahahaha. I know!
Yay! Three sigs already!
Armada, Tesseract, and Luna the Lovely. We only need seventeen more!
197-Ooh, you said the P-word! *dances around singing ‘Luna said the P-word! Luna said the P-word!’* I’m not uneducated, I am educated. And I’d like to keep this shirt free of pie stains.
200–what’s that you said? You wanted pie stains all over your shirt? Well, okay, if you insist….. *pies Armada with cherry pie*
195 – I’ll sign.
162-Actually, It seems a little bit more normal to be all snowy, because of all the movies and books and stuff!!! But thankfully there is fake snow…. (I live in New Zealand, if you want to make enemies fast, ask if a New Zealand person is from Australia!!!)
The Britney Spears documentary finished (now, I feel sorry for her!!!) and I’m going to watch Grey’s Anatomy. oh, and
195-Ill sign
Hi everyone!
Just wanted to add to the discussion about the Welcome, Neophytes thread.
I am positively delighted the GAPAs have decided to put their foot down here. The WN threads have been getting far off topic lately (they look nothing like those when I came here, and don’t seem very welcoming or easier to understand for newcomers than many other threads), and we’re all to blame (yes, me, too.) The influx of newcomers is simply too minute to require an entire thread. And, if we can’t resist using it as a second random thread, why not just eliminate the WN thread?
I think we’d be much better off staying on the random thread with our random discussions, and making the WN a non-commenting thread. We could create a brief summary of what the blog’s about, directing newcomers to the rules and HG2MB, and ask the GAPAs to post it every month. We would also direct newcomers directly to the random thread, where we could immediately bring them into the group and show them what blogging is all about. I think it would be more welcoming to let them freely post on the random thread right away, and if they are exposed directly to the influence of older MBers, then they might settle in faster, as well.
I think the random thread could be a great place to gather, with the newcomers. There’s no reason to segregate between Newcomer and Older MBer, and as we’ve seen, the dividing line is quite faint. We ought to welcome newcomers with open arms right onto the random thread. There shouldn’t be too many questions to answer after they’ve read the rules and HG2MB, and if there are, so be it. We’ll survive, and I think the random thread would be an even more appealing place to gather because of it.
So, I agree with the GAPAs in shutting down the WN thread to comments, and would suggest we start working on a longer “welcome” message with other info to post along with it.
Sincerely,
Red-tailed HAWK
179-I’m sorry. I hope things get better for you and your family soon. *Hugs*
187-Understandably, due to an overwhelming number of unrelated posts, the GAPAs have discontinued “Welcome, Neophytes!” threads that can be posted on. To see some reasons some feel we need to be able to post there, please see post 160 and several after it. Please give us your suggestions for keeping it on topic, if you have any. If you would like to help make it possible to post on the neophytes thread, please tell us that you would like to sign Armada’s petition.
195-I most certainly will sign! Thank you for not assuming I would -I appreciate it. Thank you for starting the petition. I think it will help the movement to be more organized.
So far we have six signers! Fourteen to go… *Crosses fingers*
I think HAWK has a very good point, and I like his non-commenting thread idea. On the other hand, when I was a ‘phyte, I completely ignored the Welcome, Neophytes! (then Welcome, Newcomers!) thread, so I know we can get along without one, and if we’re going to have a non-commenting thread, then aren’t we just repeating the HG2MB?
Two hour delay today! Which is lucky since my alarm didn’t go off.
195-Sure…Who likes my four rules?
SFTDP, but let’s just have a direct democracy vote. Since you can only vote pro or con, it’s a perfect system, right?
We had a short power-out today before the back-up generator kicked in. Thank goodness our school has one.
195–you know what, scratch it. I’ve decided I’m an indifferent party (neither for nor against reopening the ‘phyte thread), so would you please unsign me? My apologies, but……although those in favor of reopoening it have made some good arguments, so have those against, and, well, I don’t feel strongly enough on the matter to cast my vote either way. I shall remain a neutral party.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have soooo much catching up to do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So. Here’s the lowdown.
I lost power in an ice storm on Thursday night. After living in a 50 degree house for 2 days, the power came back on Saturday night. BUT. Out internet/cable/phone didn’t come back until half an hour ago. So I’ve missed sooooo much on the blog!!!!!!!!!!!!!
210- I’ll be neutral with you as I don’t know how much influence the thread has as when I was new it was during Gaboomba times and there was no blog or WN thread.
Thank you all so much for the hugs. It means a lot to me and my family. You guys are awesome, or shall I say, flamablamablous.
As for the WN thread, I tink I have to side with the HAWK on this one. Although it’s cool to have a thread for newbies,I think that it would be more secure and welcoming for them if they got to meet all of us who tend not to visit that thread so that they feel more a part of us and the entire MB community. That way they can more easily branch out into other threads without feeling like they’re doing something wrong. There was no such thing as a WN thread when a was a ‘phyte, and we did just fine. The community was a tight msh of friends back then. I also think it’s not exactly welcoming to segregate the ‘phytes from the oldbies with a thread, i might be considered as degrading.
208- But this is a benevolent oligarchic noocracy.
My opinion is that we’ll be fine without one. The earliest was in 2006, so it’s not an eternal tradition.
It snowed! Yay! I’ve got a school concert tonight, but it’s otherwise pretty quiet here.
213 – I’m sorry to say I can’t remember why we might want to hug you (sick family member, maybe?) but *hugs and choklit* anyway.
I agree with Agrrrfishi. When I joined, I felt like I fit in right away; no ‘welcoming’ part involved. If someone noticed I was new, then someone noticed I was new. You know? (doesn’t know if that makes sense* *is sleep-deprived*
Yay, snow! I like this kind of weather. As warm as possible for it to snow. Eeee!
No. No, no, no. It is snowing very hard. If we don’t have a snow day tomorrow… *strangles her pillow*
Here comes the snow (do do do do)
Here comes the snow
And I say
It’s freezing
Little darling
It’s been a lovely little summer
Little darling
It seems like years since it’s been warm
Here comes the snow
Here comes the snow
And I say
It’s freezing
Little darling
The smiles are fading from the faces
Little darling
It seems like years since it’s been warm
Here comes the snow (do do do do)
Here comes the snow
And I say
It’s freezing
Snow, snow, snow, here it comes (four times)
Little darling
I see the ice is coming back
Little darling
It seems like years since it’s been here
Here comes the snow (do do do do)
Here comes the snow
It’s freezing
Here comes the snow (do do do do)
Here comes the snow
That was all supposed to be italicized.
It’s freezing
It’s freezing
Hm, the ‘it’s freezing’ was supposed to come after the “That was all supposed to be italicized.”. Weird.
179- *hugs*
Finals start tomorrow… eeeep. APUSH, then English, then Calc.
APUSH is an in-class DBQ, not to much I can really study for… English I may reread a section of our book but other than that I’m not bothering, Calc I need to do some practice problems for, and finish my formula sheet.
I am depressed about calculus… I was doing so well all year. I held an A up to, in fact, yesterday. I had like a 94 until we got one super long test and I didn’t finish a bunch of problems (I work really slowly…), and then the same with a quiz last friday and that pushed me down to a B. So now I need to get a 91% on the final to pull it back up. And his finals are always really long and I don’t finish them… this time it’s not multiple choice though, maybe that’ll help…
But I haven’t gotten an A in math for like… years. I really really wanted to tis time. I actually get/like calculus, unlike Algebra, uhhg…
In other news, my playing test in band went monumentally bad. I messed up 3 of the scales substantially, and the sight reading… oy. I got perhaps 1 out of 3 notes right, and when I did the rhythms were completely off. At least I had the scales memorized, maybe that’ll hold me up enough to keep first chair…
First day of midterms down. English was really easy, and we had the best essay question: write another page of A Raisin in the Sun. World History was really easy too, but I screwed up pretty badly on one of the essay questions… Sparta, not Athens, won the Peloponnesian War. -sigh- Maybe I’ll get partial credit; I managed to only mention the victor in one sentence.
After we were done with the World History exam, we watched the first hour and a half of The Day After Tomorrow. The overcast skies outside my window have my nerves completely on edge right now…
193- that is weird, and cool, I can’t wait till college.
195- Yes, I do sign it. *sign*
It might snow, therefor closing school tomarrow. NOT TOMARROW! TOMARROW IS A GOOD DAY!
Please, please close on a B-Day!
I had an english exam. I think it went all right. *crosses fingers*. I walked to and from the exam. That’s 40 minutes either way. It was nice except that my back is kinda bothering me. My life is utterly boring but I like it that way.
We should just have one of those threads that doesn’t have room for posting (like the Muse on Ebay threads) that just say:
To newcomers: Welcome to Museblog. Please check out the HG2MB and feel free to direct any questions to some of our older members on the threads. Have Fun!
.219 ugh I work really slowly in math as well. good luck on your finals!
squee! me is happy. I got a 96 on my bio final, so I’m almost positive (as 99.9% certain) that I will have an A in bio! Now I just have to take geography on Thursday (need a 99 for a solid A, an 83 for an A-, which is not worth the same as an A when they calculate GPA) and then I will be done with school until January 20!!!!!!!!! A whole month without school, a whole month at home with my family and normal weather and my kitty and and and……
So, yeah, I’m very, very happy right now. Plus, I just listened to my favorite HP soundtrack (HP4) which also helped to put me in a good mood…..
224- They do.
226- That was the really hard one with the stations right? Nice job! here in middle school we get a week, and a half. Not much considering you get a month. Then again you have people who don’t go home in like ever, and that live far away so… maybe it is fair.
I did somthing horrible today and it just killed me when what I got back was kindness. So it’s a well known fact that I’m really smart in everything but Math, and even then people call me smart. It can get really annoying but that’s besides the point. I also can’t say no to people when they “need my help” so I sorta help “cheat” for the boy who sits next to me in History, I know, bad. But I got so used to a unattention paying teacher I told the kid next to me in Spanish the answer to one of the questions. Ms. S saw me and called the guy out first on it. Of course this kid is a world class liar and was able to brush it past. Ms. S- knowing that- then asked me. I CANNOT tell a teacher a lie, I swear I just froze up. So I sat there for a minute under the stare of everyone basicaly stuttering the words “Um” under my breath the entire time. Ms. S whent on to say “I’ll take that as a yes” (meaning yes I did tell him) So we both got Zeros which sucks for me because I KNEW all of the answers and would have gotten a 100. After the class I basicaly just said a whole bunch of mean things with my friends like it was all her fault. But then I get to math and am given the Chap. 4 test and that’s when I realize me joking about Ms. S wasn’t becuase she deserved it, it was so I didn’t have to think that it was my fault. And it was. So I couldn’t do the Cahp. 4 test because I couldn’t stop crying. Those weren’t my standards and I shouldn’t do stuff like that, it really hit me hard. I was crying in front of my entire math class, had a zero on the Spanish quiz, and now azero on the Chap. 3. I was bummed. And then my teachers make it worse because Ms. S said she would make me take it again. And my math teacher said I could take the math test at a later date. Sorry for the rant but that was nice to get off my back.
It’s snowing right now, which thrills me. Even if its just an inch so far.
228- I’m pretending it’s snowing right now. It’s not. And I’m not sure how it is in the rest of the world but it seems the entire school agree’s with me: this week is moving sooooo slow. Any comments from the states/counties?
227–actually, this was bio lecture final. The really hard one with the stations was bio lab final, but I still did well on it (89). The bio final today was the lecture one, all multiple choice, comparatively easy (at least, usually).
Also, *hugs*
Oh, SFTDP, but…..229–yeah, this week is moving very slowly. As in, it doesn’t seem like it will ever be over. I’m sure that’s just cuz it’s the first true finals week I’ve had my entire life (having been homeschooled, each individual course usually got finished at a different rate,s ot he finals never all came the same week), plus I will be going home for the first time since I started college in August.
Also, as far as Christmas breaks go, I think ours is unusually long, even for colleges. I think two is something of the norm (my sister gets two at her school), and two certainly seems more or less the norm with grade/middle/high school, too. I think.
228-I hope it snows here. It’s raining, and it’s around 30 degrees out, which is deadly. I hope it either turns to snow or stops before the ice gets any thicker, because the trees are already looking a little uneasy with their ice-coated branches.
Thanks for all of your support regarding the WN thread, everyone! Everyone from both sides. It’s a tough decision, but I feel something resembling what I outlined earlier would be better than continuing as we have been.
Maybe I’ll respond to 160:
1. The idea is not to have no WN thread, but to prevent posting upon it. What welcomes the newcomers and assures them that the blog is a friendly environment are the title of the thread and the vital content within it. If we can wrap the basic facts about the blog into a short passage that can be posted at the top of the thread, including links to the HG2MB, the rules, and the current random thread, then the newcomers will feel knowledgeable enough to proceed onto the random thread.
I don’t think the WN thread is an accurate portrayal of the blog, and to place newcomers in such an environment to “adjust” them to the blog is wrong. When the WN thread stays fairly on track, the higher concentration of inexperienced individuals leads to an environment that does not resemble a normal blog thread, and when it goes off track, then newcomers are just as out of place as they would be on the random thread. Perhaps more so, when intense discussions are occurring.
2. I personally doubt this would happen. Am I the only one who has noticed how ecstatic MBers become when someone with an unfamiliar name arrives, even if they turn out to be a MBer who hadn’t been on in a while? We become very excited when newcomers arrive, and the random thread is arguably the most popular and posted-upon thread on the blog. Newcomers couldn’t help but be swept right up into the blog, feeling right at home.
3. Again, the thread isn’t disappearing. There would be links directly to important threads, notably the random thread. I don’t think we should underestimate our newcomers by assuming they will be completely lost even when given a summary of the blog and a direct link to a helpful thread.
4. First, the summary would answer most of these questions. Second, given the few newcomers we receive here, we ought to be grateful to have a new friend to show around the blog. Third, as I said earlier, experience on a normal thread will be very useful.
5. Again, learning from good examples. If isolated on a thread that appears more welcoming (simply because it is occurring more often) to such things as pointless posts and cht spk, a newcomer is more likely to hang onto such habits. When on a thread full of people blogging as we do, the urge to follow the examples of older MBers and thus participate in the blog without completely annoying everyone else is quite high.
I think we should look at newcomers not as people who need to be quarantined but as people who can be seamlessly brought into the group with minimal delay.
Please consider my message. I hope to still have power and internet tomorrow, but if not, please don’t do anything drastic until I can get back, okay?
Red-tailed HAWK
Thought of the Day: The Hornblower books have very little character development.
Thought of the Past Two Years: The Hornblower movies blow Archie Kennedy’s role way out of proportion. Not that I mind. I quite like Kennedy. But in the books he had about two lines. I’m not exaggerating.
Current predicament: Opal is trying to steal the Internet, although she has had it for several hours and I have had it not at all.
Save the -phytes thread !
Arguments: Well, by posting, we are showing them the true chaotic nature of the MB ! Besides, I was born in HPB month, even on easter monday, so I can’t help the posting… But anyway the play was on topic- and responding to a -phytes question. Though I guess the posting was a bit (very) random.
I have an idea:
Why don’t we rename the thread “welcoming room” ?
It could be a bit like the hare and the hedgepig; MBer chat while waiting to welcome -phytes, who are welcome to pop in and ask questions. It wouldn’t solve the problem, but if the PTB won’t change for the -phyte thread, then the -phyte thread must change for the PTB*…
*phyte thread bloggers
234) SFTDP (but it’s hard to avoid when you’re in a different time zone):
Can we call it the: Muse Blog Philosophy Society ?
The bloggers would explore the MBs strange culture and rites, while welcoming any -phytes. Pieing -phytes would be forbidden though.
Save the -phytes thread
I am feeling very stressed out right now, one of the reasons being that overnight, it rained and all the snow went away.
Day one of finals over. I actually got an A on the APUSH in class essay yesterday, so if I got a B on the DBQ today, it might pull me up to a B in the class… ahg… I hope so…
English I didn’t even bother studying for. Though I almost forgot to write the essay, the last bit of our final XD I was just sitting looking back on the scantron but and then with 15 minutes left I was like “Oh, yeah, the free response. I should do that.” But it was only allowed to be on side of a sheet of paper, so I cranked it out in like ten minutes. XD
Calc was okay too. But physics tomorrow is supposed to be impossible… ahhhg…
232- 1,3-I’m aware it has not disappeared.
2- Yes, I have noticed this. However, when I first posted, it was on the random thread. On the random thread, I was welcomed kindly by Armada and Luna and then, due to discussions already taking place, I was overlooked. There was definitely no ecstatic welcoming committee like you describe. However, when I posted on “Welcome Neophytes!”, I was welcomed by a large group of people, who were very excited. Hence, what I said.
Please know that I would be outraged if the neophytes were “quarantined” as some people have put it. I just feel we need a Q&A place.
Therefore, I have a new suggestion: We keep the “Welcome, Newcomers!” announcement the GAPAs put up and continue without being able to post there. Then, we make a Q&A thread where anyone, regardless of how long they’ve been on the blog, can ask a question about the blog. That way, if you didn’t quite understand the explanation for whatever it is on Rules or HG2MB (or there isn’t one at all), you can ask. If someone knows, they can give a reply, if they choose. This way, there can be a place to ask questions in an organized way, open to everyone, that won’t become another random thread.
Is this idea acceptable to all parties?
195- I am so signing that thing!!!!!!!!! *signs as big as John Hancock did on the Declaration*
238- That could be a good compromise, but in my oponion, having the phyte thread back is the best option.
So…hoe old is college age in America? Is there many people here at college? It sounds really scary! Is college like university?
what time is it? TIME OF OUR LIVES! anticipation!
what time is it? SUMMERTIME! Its our vacation!
SCHOOLS OUT! SCREAM AND SHOUT!!!!
Official first day of 8 weeks school free has got me VERY happy! Although, I have to tidy my room but I’ll take Ness, my dog, for a walk around about three (It’s 10:25 am) to Baldwin St ( the steepest street in the world, apparently) because thats when the tourists come and they take pictures of my dog, which is quite fun
(240) Sam: In the United States, college = university.
(Americans: in Britain and British Commonwealth countries, a college can be either a sort of high school or a division of a university.)
*signs*
230/231- Nice job on the Bio Lab. An 89 is impressive, especialy taking in the fact that two minutes is just plain short. Thanks for the hug. I had to go to see Ms. S today during some of my free time, I was so embarrassed. And then my math teacher gave a speech on test taking skills and that made me feel even worse- the way she gave the speech it could have been directed at me. I ended up with a 80ish on the math test though. And you know it could be becuase it’s your first finals week but( and we need other responces to be sure of this) I think the week is just slow in general.
226- Yay! *applause*
Up here in the frozen north colledge is like university it’s just more hands on things. *hard to explain*
I had my last exams today. They were allright. My stage design exam was ridiculously easy. 90% of it was multiple choice.
240–yeah, as Robert said, what we in the US refer to as college is what the vast majority of the world (British, many, if not most, Europeans, Australians, and New Zealanders) refers to as university. So, in general, “college” (or university) age is typically around 18. The exact age varies slightly, depending on what time of year your birthday is, whether you skipped grades, etc., but most start college between 17 and 19. Assuming they didn’t take time off after finishing their last year of highschool (12th grade).
I think only a small handful of us ont he blog are college kids: groundhog22, oxlin, Grant O., myself, and probably a couple others I’ve forgotten (sorry!)
Taylor made me a shirt for Christmas. It’s hot pink.
It says in black letters: I Killed Edward Cullen…
And on the back: DEAL WITH IT.
♥♥♥
246- If I wore that my friend would be soo angery. She loves Twillight. I constantly tease her for it. I think I’ll call her and tell her ritght now.
Hey guys, here’s another of my friends, I have no idea whether she’s going to stay here or disappear after this, but hey, it’s worth a try….
Say something, Fudge Dude….
hi
You know, that’s exactly what Wyatt said….. Wanna go look at some other threads?
sure
OK.
[Sorry, Syllabub: there’s too much geographic information in this message. –Robert]
Awww, everybody ignored my fabulous rendition of “Here Comes the Sun”.
Hello, (again)……………………….
I like Emmet Cullen…….sigh……..in the movie and in the book.
OMG I am having TWO kissmassess!!!!!!
i dont even know though…..this is very odd.
~the Fudge
246– I love it! I would totally wear that, although the “deal with it” part would be lost due to the fact that my hair completely obscures the backs of my shirts. Yes, it’s long–I can very nearly sit on the ends.
246 – Nice! I want one.
249-Okay, sorry about that, Robert.
251–Hullo, Fudge Dude! *pies with a fudgy pie* Welcome to the blog.
251- Hello Fudge Dudge. Your names like mine cuz it rymes. I like Emmett too. Jasper is my favorite though. And I’m about to use you as an excuse to get the Neopyte page back on. SEEEEE??? Now where would Fudge be if he( is it he?) didn’t have a friend explaining MB to him? Are you currently confused Fudge? (say yes here) Seee??? WE NEED THE NEOPYTE THREAD!
Huzzah for the makeshift Neophytes thread!
Well, I have done some calculations, and have discovered that I could fail every single final I have and still have a 1 (or an A) in all of my classes. Huzzah for overachieving as well!
250- I saw it, but I couldn’t figure out what song it was from. I knew it was Beatles, but it was just on the tip of my tongue.
Hello, Fudge Drudge.
146-I would get beaten up if I wore that to school!
246- I want to make one that says “VAMPIRES SUCK” in big letters. Everybody at school will look at me funny, but it’s not like they don’t already.
246- SWEET!
Vampires are awesome. TWILIGHT SUCKS.
257–That’s great!
260- Wow. That would be really funny if I wore that to school. But I like uh… how do I write your name 261? well I like his(or her) version better, Twilight sucks but Vamps rule.
260- I agree with you- but warning- girls might treat you like black people treat Don Imus.
264–That all depends on the girl.
It’s Fudge Dude, guys. Not Fudge Dudge. Not Fudge Drudge. And she’s a girl. But anyway. Yeah. Welcome to the blog, Emma Fudgey. (Yeah, Fudge, that’s what ‘strike’ does)
*thinks for a minute* Whoa, I have a lot of (real-life) friends on this blog… Or at least a lot of them have posted. And electros showed BA:TNG to one of his (and of my) friends, so he might come on here at some point… If that happens, every Monday will be a kokon for me. That would be so cool…
Oh, I need to see how many signatures we have so far… *looks at all posts since I was on last*
Nine sigs! All right! But you do have a point, RtH. It wouldn’t be completely horrible not to have a ‘phytes thread, it would just be hard for some of the ‘phytes. Because as CP pointed out, there’s more to the WN thread than just saying hi to neophytes. It’s also a place for confused ‘phytes to get to know the people on the blog a bit, receive thread suggestions, and get the general feel of what the blog is all about. So, though I understand your point, I’m still fighting for the ‘phytes.
261-Total agreement. Twilight is– not exactly horrible, but just rather stupid (sorry, Fudgey and MissSwann and everyone else who thinks Twilight is awesome)–, vampires are awesomely cool.
263-You write it ZVX. The special characters are just decoration.
247-I have an army of girls planning my death this very second. They were supposedly talking about making a shirt that said “I Killed Beavo (lastname), Deal With It”.
I have a hate club! I feel so special. I hope they send me mail. I love hate mail.
260-Vampires are actually pretty cool. Just not ones that sparkle.
Peeps were like “oh, I love the pink… wait, does that say… OH MY GOD WHY WOULD YOU SAY THAT, YOU FREAK? EDWARD IS AMAZING AND I LOVE HIM AND HE WILL MARRY ME… WHY ARE YOU LAUGHING? IT’S NOT FUNNY! YOU’RE A DISCRACE TO EDWARD! OME! Don’t you walk away from me when I’m talking!”
260- i need that shirt. twilight was a decent way to kill time over the summer. unfortunately, one of my freinds is completely obsessed w/twilight. she and my ohter freind had a shouting match across the lunchroom about who loved edward more. it was quite embarrasing
250- where was it?
my freind is coming over for a few days so i probbably wont be posting much(if at all)
i got my phone today!!! but i accidentally called someone(wrong number) and they have called me twice.
266- Ah, ha. Sorry about the name confusion. I wonder how far that would’ve gone if it were not stopped.
267-
In Moulmein, in Lower Burma, I was hated by large numbers of people — the only time in my life that I have been important enough for this to happen to me….
George Orwell “Shooting an Elephant”
But… vampires *do* suck…
oh god I hate puns so much but I am the only one to ever notice them.
Hullo all.
I have a sore throat and headache. The latter comes from having my head repeatedly stepped on by my sister–I can’t remember why.
We went Christmas shopping today and I spent all the money that was meant for my Ashland deposit. I would have made more but didn’t end up babysitting tonight, so now I don’t have Ashland money…
With any luck, we won’t all school at all for the rest of the week, or at least I’ll be in the country and be able to plead that I was snowed in and maybe they’ll make an exception.
Hornblower-Related Thought of the Day: Maybe I’ll read past Lieutenant Hornblower after all.
267- Beavo you are the best. I love that you’re getting all excited about getting hate mail. and your stories about your locker from r+r. and that t-shirt.
I really want that shirt ! Soo cool !
Save the -phytes thread !
What’s going on ? Is there going to be a new one or not ? If not, can we at least have a funeral for it ?
(270) Jadestone: Not really.
I’m done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’ve taken my last final, and I think I did fairly well. I think I probably got an A- in the course, don’t think I got the 99 on the test necessary for a solid A, but……oh well. It was probably too much to hope I would end my first semester with a 4.0 GPA. Me being me, I will be disappointed, but…..right now I am just so glad to be done. No more school until January 20! w00t!
I read the Twilight books, I’m sorry to say.
Since when were vampires “hot?”
Are they not supposed to be mindless, undead, killing machines?
Overall a very dissapointing book, andan even more dissapointing movie.
Well, hello, Capricious! How has life been treating you?
276- Not mindless, per se. Zombies are the monsters that are traditionally mindless. Vampires are intelligent, yet completely immoral and vicious.
245- Sweet Melpomene I think?
246- awesome!
251- *pies Fudge Dude* welcome to the blog.
252- Bum you. I wish long hair didn’t make me look like a man. >:0
263- I think it’s ZVX….
267- *laughs* as usual you put a smile on my face.
270- I got that pun imediately. *loves puns as well* I have been known to create some seriouse groaners. *let’s have a secret pun club*
276- DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH I HAVE MISSED YOU???????????????????? well, vampires have always been sexy. It started in the victorian era because bighting on the neck was all sexy without being kissing and stuff. Or at least that’s what my english teacher said….
*is making cookies* Why does every recipe I want to make need refrigeration? I do not know. I think they are spiteing me.
276- Hey, Capricious!
My little brother broke his hand yesterday.
On a lighter note, no school today because there’s 2 feet of snow covering everything! And it’s still snowing! Yay!
280–two feet? lucky! here at school, we’ve got about a centimeter……hopefully we have more at home, where I’ll be TOMORROW NIGHT! squee!
How’d your brother break his hand? *cringes in empathy*
280- how did he do that?
281- we got absolutely dumped with snow yesterday! On tuesday there was no sign of snow and wednesday there was a ridiculouse amount.
274- Ahaha.
267- Hello! Nice to see you around.
WAAARG I AM FREE!!
Last day of finals is over (well technicalls I have 2 periods tomorrow, but 7th hour is just a study hall replacing gym so I don’t have to go in, and the other is Band, and we are just rehearsing). I would type more about them but you all really don’t care and I don’t either because now I am going to eat some soup and read an actual book. I haven’t been able to read in far, far too long. So I am spending the next few days devoted to books, then I probably have to start on the APUSH notes (like 5 chapters of them… supposed to do like 8 but god there is no way I’m getting that far, I’ll be lucky if I do 2). But for now, soup and reading.
Bye all
279- But vampire legends go back further than the Victorian Era. Bram Stokker’s Dracula made them POPULAR in that time, but people were telling stories about them in Romania for centuries before that.
Does anyone else here own a pocket watch? What brand is it? What is the serial number on the movement? I own two Elgin watches. The serial number of one is 9266697 and the other is hard to open but I’ve gotten it open before. The first one is from 1900 and the second from 1911.
hey, I’m related by marriage to Bram Stokker
287–coolness. I read Dracula when I was younger….like, maybe 9 or 10. As in, the real Dracula, hundreds of pages, not some babyfied version….. It was ok, but….I think it was a bit above my reading level. I got greatly confused in spots. ‘twould probably be much more enjoyable now.
Are you new? Or an oldbie come back again (if so, my apologies for not recognizing the name…..my brain is fried from finals).
Oh, speaking of finals, my official final grade in calculus is in. And the following smiley perfectly fits how I feel:
I got an A+
SFTDP–and to think, I spent so many nights freaking out and sobbing over the summer/fall before college, cuz I was convinced that I was going to get a C or worse in calc……
276- Welcome back!
286- No, but they sound interesting. Where does one find a pocket watch from 1900?
288- Nice job with the A+. I’m still trying to figure out how to break it to my parents that I got a C on my chap. 4 test in math. I have to tonight though becuase it must be signed by tomorrow.
It is supossed to snow tomorrow. There are crazy rumors that it will be 6″ to a foot. There are less crazy rumors that say 3″ to 5″. And sorta depressing rumors that it’s only rumors. I’m going to belive the slightly less crazy rumors. Snow is coolness (haha coolness-bad pun) But it does mean a crazy packed grocery store and my family desperatly needs food! Everyones freaking out over what’s happening up in NH- you’d think that as New Englanders they had more sence than that.
SFTTP–I emailed my TA in calc, asking her what my grade on the final itself was, as I was curious if I would do well enough that I would end with more than 700 points in the course. Technically there are ony 700, but there were a total of 80 (wow, that’s a lot) of extra credit points. 15 for each of the “midterms” and 20 for the final. And aparently, I got a perfect score on the final–220/200. I am really, really, really in total shock right now. I mean, 220/200!
so, I end the course with…..734/700 points. omg, I can hardly believe it. WOW. I am seriously in shock.
251 – Hi Fudge Dude! -pies-
288/292 – Wow, congrats! That’s kind of incredible.
We went ice skating for our gym “final” today. It was pretty awesome. All the little kids skating around doing pirouettes made me feel pretty clumsy, though.
293–Thanks, I know. That’s why I almost can’t believe it….. *is blissfully happy*
this time tomorrow, I will be winging my way home. yay!
288/292 – That’s awesome! Congratulations! -celebration pies-
276 (Cappy): CAPPY!!! Long time no see! (and write). How are you?
286 (oxlin): That’s awesome! I’ve never owned a pocket watch, but if I did, I’d definitely use it. Where did you get them?
Hello Capricious (that was probably spelled wrong)!
Today. I wore my boots and someone said I looked like I was in the army. I started laughing and said something about the “don’t ask don’t tell” policy being thrown out the window, given the rest of my wardrobe.
Yay! Random awesome tech nerd geek electronic fuse iPod stuff! In florescent green! Nothing better for a power-crazed megalomaniac geek like me!!
I wish I had something to post on here…
I need presents for my parents!
The stars tonight are beautiful where I live. It’s the first clear night in a while, and snow’s due for tomorrow, so it may be the last as well. But Orion is absolutely stunning.
I’m sure I will stop by in the morning before packing my computer, but if not…..
I leave tomorrow to go home! I am so happy, and excited, and it’ll be so nice to be home and not have to do any school and just be at home with family. I’m sure I’ll be on some during break (probably not near as often as I am now, just cuz I’ll have other things to do), but I’ll check in some. And given that my parents have discovered MB (apparently my dad was bored and googled my name……*shrugs* just as well) I will probably pop in more often than I would’ve prior….
Anyway, on the off-chance I don’t post again for a little while, Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, and Happy New Year (and any other holiday one might celebrate that I don’t list )!
Despite the slight earliness of the hour (9:10) I think I will head to bed–I’m feeling a bit tired, and hopefully I will actually sleep…..g’night, all, and happy holidays.
(301) Have a great holiday!
302–Thanks! You too!
269-‘s’okay. I’m curious as to why you thought someone would pick the name ‘Fudge Drudge’, though…
301-See you, Luna!
Yay! Fudgey’s coming back!
Well, not rightnow, but she said she liked the blog and wants to come back. I’m excited!
Hey Capricious!
I got the pocket watches at a store near my college. It is a whole house filled with antique type things as well as some new knicknacks and it is run by a church. It is only open one day a week (and the first saturday of the month) but it is splendid and well worth a visit.
301- Bye Luna! 9:00 isn’t early at all, it’s my bedtime here. Anyways Happy Holidays too!
Bye, all! Happy Holidays!
Oh. My. Gosh.
It’s snowing like crazy. No, scratch that, I think it’s blizzarding like crazy. We have six inches of snow, and we’re supposed to have more by four tonight. Anyway, school’s canceled and I’m not allowed to leave the house because of a ‘severe winter storm warning’, which is mean because I wanted to go see my friends, but I guess this is okay with me. *kicks back and relaxes*
Yayyyyy snow day! snoooow daaaaaaaaay! fun.
We’ve got a beautiful flurry going on right now, and we’re going to be sent home early! (I just hope my mom was informed.)
308 – Psh, that’s notthing! We’ve got about 30 inches of snow right now.
Well, I have a snow day today as well. More of an ice day, really. Just a mere 6-8 inches of snow. And it was supposed to be the last day of finals, too. Oh, well. One more day of Christmas break.
WINTER BREAK STARTED TODAY! NO SCHOOL FOR THREE WEEKS!
It seems so unfair that the few days out of the school year when my school doesn’t have school and everybody else does (parent/teacher conferences) are the days when everybody gets snow days.
314 – It’s okay. We never get snow days. (It’s Minnesota. They don’t close school here unless it’s below zero and there is at least a foot of snow.)
304- It rhymed.
305- That sounds really cool. If you are ever in NYC, Maxilla and Mandible is well worth a visit.
Winter Break. Yup.
Watched Elf in GT.
276 – WOAH! Cappy! Hi! *waves* Didn’t see that at first.
311- HOLY MEEP! that’s a lot. we have eight or something.
Hello. I’m back! Winter break started.
I live in Chicago, which I can tell you, I checked. CHICAGO PUBLIC SCHOOLS NEVER HAVE SNOW DAYS EVER!!!!! There wasn’t enough snow anyway. (sigh) There was like a foot of snow one day last year and the schools didn’t close. Weird, and annoying.
Last day of school until I am turned loose upon the unsuspecting world is over!!!!!!!!!!!!!( Monday/Tuesday I will be in Colorado visiting my grandparents, so I get to take them off from school.)
285- ok. so the victorian era made them sexy…..?
286- I wish… *stares off into distance wistfully*
301- enjoy alaska! I know you will. Have a great break.
308- it has been snowing non-stop up here to. I have been walking all over the city. I was painting set at my school and then went off to a birthday party. Which meant I was walking everywhere more or less, when the buses weren’t running.
Yeah. see my response to 308 for what happened to me today.
Hello everyone, after however long it’s been I’m back! We had a lapse in internet service, and I had no idea it was coming, thus the lack of warning for my absence.
A few days ago a very dear friend passed away. She was almost like a grandmother to me, closer even than most of my family. I’m so incredibly glad to have known her, she’s someone that I love so much, and one of the kinds of people that one can’t help but want to be like someday. She’s going to be greatly missed by so many people, I’m glad that I got to see her and have a good visit not too long ago.
Meanwhile, as horrible as it feels to be able to do something other than be miserable, I’ve been keeping busy with schoolwork, music and keeping connected with friends (I’m a little afraid of what my dear parents will say of the number of text messages I’ve sent and received, even though I’m the one paying).
I can’t believe how fast Christmas is coming, and with on Christmas eve we’re driving to Wisconsin, a car ride I’m not looking forward to, but I do hope for some snow and ice skating while there for a few days.
We did have a bit of snow here a few days ago (I can’t keep track of days lately, so I don’t even know when), but it all melted and we’ve been getting lots of rain. Everything is thoroughly damp and cold, perfectly beautiful miserable weather.
323 – I’m sorry, Midnight Fiddler. *choklit and hugs*
323- I am very sorry for you loss, Fiddler. I suppose it’s good to keep busy with other things as you are, but don’t drown all emotions in it as well *hugs* I’m sure you won’t anyway.
Have fun in Wisconsin! Do you know where you’ll be? (just in terms of, say, vague distance form the IL border…). We’re not to far from wisconsin, though we’ll probably be gone for most of break before you get here. Alas…
324~ Thank you. *returns hug gratefully and munches choklit*
325~ Thanks. I’ve been trying to celebrate her life and remember all the wonderful times I spent with her, I know she’d want people to be glad that she was with us for so long, not sorry that she’s gone.
I’m going to visit my grandparents in WI, they live in a relatively small town between Milwaukee and Madison. I’d rather not say the name of it, since it’s somewhere I go fairly regularly.
This trip is going to be very short, so there probably wouldn’t be much time for a Kokonvention (I assume that’s what you were referring to?), but we do go there fairly regularly and if we planned in advance something might work out……….
I’m sorry, Fiddler. She sounds like a wonderful person.
I get to see Green (my best friend, I’ve mentioned her here before) tomorrow!
(323) Maybe it will help to know that you enriched her life, too. It’s a great gift to give to anyone, and I know you made her time on the planet a better one.
323. Sorry Fiddler. I agree with Rebecca! Three cheers for Fiddler and lots of chocklit!
323-*big hug* I’m sorry.
Clarissa might be going to Japan in the summer.
JAPAN.
WHY?
323 – I’m sorry about your friend, Fiddler. -hugs and choklit-
323- I’m sorry, *hugs*
#1: the name is not fudge “drudge” or fudge “dudge”
Armada:
It happens, Fudgey. And I already yelled at Vendy and YS, you don’t have to. Though if you feel better by doing it, go ahead…..
Here’s how you do smileys: Bunny= Smiley= Grin= Shock thingy= ‘kay?
bonjour dijabouti
Armada: Oh-kayyy….. that’s nice. STOP DOUBLE POSTING!!! HTML is this: =italics bold =green(or red at the moment) Now, if you want to say something else, let’s do it on another thread, okay? Want me to show you BA?
IT IS SNOWING INSANELY.
Hullo, everyone! Extra hello to Cappy, IBCF, and Meow, who I haven’t seen in ages.
It’s really snowy here in the country. It only snows significantly about every three-five years, so we don’t have an actual sled. Usually we use garbage can lids, but this year my dad had the brilliant idea to use whitewater kayaks. So we got out a whitewater kayak and packed down the snow on our very long, very steep, very brush-coated driveway. Then I went down a couple of times. The first time I careened into a rhododendron bush and got covered in snow. The second time I once again failed to steer properly, and ended up in a ditch, with the bow of the kayak buried in snow, narrowly avoided a little alder tree. Then my dad went, and he actually managed to steer with his hands, but he plunged his hands into the snow-covered blackberry bushes…
It was great fun. We’re going to go sled in the pasture pretty soon, too, which should be even better.
I’m sorry, Fiddler… -chocolate-
323- Oh, I’m so sorry! That’s just terrible, I hope you’re all right. *hugs and choklit and more hugs*
Yesterday, the roads were so bad. My best friend M and I were heading over to my other best friend K’s house to go sledding and chat, but nobody had plowed the streets yet. So we got stuck at the end of my street! We had to PUSH ourselves out of the snowbank, and even then we had to slowly get in between he really, really fst traffic. THAT was an adventure.
Oooh, yay, more SNOW! I like snow, if you hadn’t noticed…
I’m going to a party, in this suburb like half an hour away. Well, half an hour away during the summer when it’s not snowing and there’s not a foot on the ground already and when it’s six o’clock and LIGHT OUT. AGHHH IT’S GOING TO TAKE FOREVER *dies*
Whatev.
323- Oh Fiddler. *hugs*
330- the food is deliciouse? That would be my reason for going.
I forgot to mention that I am surrounded by sick people. ok, my brother’s starting to get better but everyone else is awfully ill. I spent too much time outside. It is bitterly cold. I spent 70% of my day waiting for street cars that took over half an hour to arrive and that was what: five street cars. I’m tired of having cold fingers. *is glad to be warm and inside*
323-I’m sorry, MF. *more choklit and hugs*
337-Wait, how long have you been gone for? I remember you so well, I just can’t keep track of these things…..
So, I’m going to a sleepover at Frosting’s in a bit, and I have a bit more time for a few more posts.
So, if I can’t, bye!
The roads are simply awful. It’s been snowing all day and we still have a sever weather alert hanging over our heads. They predicted the storm would hit us, then pass, then COME BACK. The storm is mean. If there was school today, they would have canceled it. (At least I hope so.) And that’s saying something.
Rebecca, Alice, Beev, Agrrrfishi, Tesseract, Kagz, YodaSchmoda, Bubbles and everyone else~ Thanks for the hugs, choklit, love and sympathy, it means a lot. *returns virtual hugs*
She was a wonderful friend, when she was around everyone knew they were loved, she made sure of that. Of course, I’ll never be able to forget (even if I tried) her stories, jokes, love and never ending enthusiasm for life and “all the good things” as she put it. I’ll always feel guilty when I chew chocolate (“No! You never chew chocolate! It melts too fast when you do that!”) and, of course, I’ll try to always keep proper underwear on my dolls…….(one our shared delights was dolls, especially the American Girl dolls, and every time I’d bring some of “my girls” to visit “her girls” she make sure that I was taking proper care of them, and that meant-in part-making sure that they had on underwear.)
I also remember how pleased she was when I got a concertina, since she played accordion (I loved hearing her tell stories about her bands when she was younger, and about the students she taught). the first time I brought it to her house she was delighted that I had picked up a squeezebox, after looking at it and hearing it, she expressed her delight, and then looked straight at me, “but are you planning on ever getting a real accordion?” She did love hearing it though, and was always supportive of my musical adventures.
So, I know she’ll never really be gone for me, she’s one of those people who was (and somehow still is) so very much alive that no matter what I know she’ll always be with me.
She completely defied any sort of stereotyping; despite being in a wheelchair she was one of the freest people I’ve ever met, she never got old, and she lived more than most people ever get to.
337~ That sounds fun! sledding in a kayak….wow.
Hornblower related thought of the day: I set a picture of Robert Lindsay as Captain Pellew (looking properly stern and authoritative) as my cell phone’s screen saver.
It replaced the picture of a poster I have on my ceiling- a gaff topsail schooner. It worked well, but I’m partial to square riggers…….
I went in the ditch again! Worse this time. It was very fun. I was prevented from flipping over by a (different) alder tree.
345- Hee hee! Raeda in fossam it!
That’s an inside joke from my Latin textbook series. If anyone else uses Ecce Romani, they should get it.
Piggy, would you mind telling Fudge Dude why she can’t double/triple/quadruple/ect post? I don’t think she really gets the basic blog etiquette, she doesn’t do any blogging and is used to Chat…. And you seem like the best person to tell her, as you feel strongly about it, and you’ll hopefully be able to get through to her better than I did, I tried to tell her and she just didn’t get it….
346- Abite, molesti! Yes, I use Ecce Romani as well. Aurelia est semper irata.
330- Why not? Japan is my idol country (does that make sense?) I have a wall in my room devoted to it!!
I have a dilemma. In my Year 11 timetable music and chinese clash. this is VERY bad…I have to drop one of them, I think it will not go down to well if I suggest doing one of them instead of maths (I only got 56%!!!!) so in place of chinese/music I can do -history, physics, chem, geo and everything else I needed to do this year already…AAAHH!!! I’m thinking history…instead of music, what do you guys think…
Does anyone here play Croc:Legend of the Gobbos for PC…I’m battling through it becase there really is not much else to do in the evenings, except for MB. Oh, and does anyone do yachting? I do and we went for a regatta in Owaka, there were 3 races and here is how it went
Race 1: Ashlee (the annoying and lazy) and Me sailed a Topper together and she got cold so we had to forfeit the race,
Race 2: We didn’t do it
Race 3: She decided she had a headache and sunbathed on a Trailer Sailer while Mr G. screamed at me for deciding to be a crew on a sunburst while he had gone to the effort of bringing a boat down for me. I meekly responded with “Ill sail it then” and the race course was 12312123 and I made it to 12312 and then I just walked with Biffy, Cohen and Warwick because there was absolutley NO wind, but don’t worry-the wind picked up, capsizing my topper, aptly named Topple, and I ran aground…boy, what a weekend!
And finally (what a long post!) I got my hair cut!! waoh it is so short!!! and a little blonde!! crazy styles ensue! Night all.
Whew! Good morning MB! I am finally back! Tis Christmas break!
There are only 4 days untill christmas and I don’t have gifts for my dad and brother. okay, so that’s what I’m doing today. Once my brother comes back from snow shovelling we will go christmas shopping together.
349- I SAIL! Except we don’t call it yachting, because we aren’t a yacht club. I’ve heard of Toppers, but never sailed one. You can doublehand? They sound like our Lasers, or Sunfish, which are single person boats. The Sunburst looks like a 420. I would call that course a triangle windward-wait, no, that doesn’t make sense. Is 1 windward, 2 Jibe, and 3 leeward? Here we usually set up a port triangle (with the jibe mark on a line off the pin from the race committee boat), and then run either triangles (123), windward leeward (12), or combinations of those, like the Olympic (12312), or variations like the Harry Anderson, or downwind finishes.
This is exciting, as I’ve wondered how sailing differs in other countries. You say port & starboard, right?
Oh, and don’t feel bad for that day. I went to Conneticut once for a US coastguard championship, and ended up turtleing my FJ (like a 420 but no spinnaker) in the middle of a river submarines use.
Ew, winter. *hatehatehate*
333-Hey! Yeah, I was reading those posts like “dudes, get it right”.
Leaving on Tuesday, for Kansas and Auntie M’s house.
I wonder what they’ll think when I’m not a meat-eater/Abercrombie-wearing/rap-listening/science and history-loving/short-and-crazy-haired little kid anymore. M will probably love it. Grandma will probably be okay with it. Cuzzin will probably think I’m a freak, and Mom will hate it, as usual.
Today she said that Marilyn Manson was “mind-raping” little children.
313 grrrrrr. i stil have to go monday and tesday
it’s fun typing in mittens.
354 – Mittens? You mean your awesome mittens that turn into gloves? I have a pair of those now!
344- I don’t think memories ever go away. My mom told me this once: “forgive but never forget” I think she meant it for when you’re hurt by somone but I think it goes for this too in a way. Sorta like: “Don’t dwell but don’t forget”
354- I do too, I think. We’ve apparently got three snowstoms lined up in a row here, the first one gave us about sixish inches, the second is still going. The thierd I have no idea.
If anyone’s watching the Patriots they know what I mean. And sorry all Arizona fans but you guys are toast in this snow. My history teacher put it perfectly, “Anything souther than Maryland isn’t football.” He means the weather I think.
My dad is making cabbage; I think I’m going to puke, so I’m putting the laptop down. (Don’t wanna have to clean it :P)
Merry Christmas/ Channukah!!!
323–So sorry, Fiddler! *hugs*.
357–cabbage. yuck.
Gah, I’m so used to my laptop keyboard, the mac’s keyboard (one of the annoying kind, not like a PC keyboard, not like the newest keyboard where each key is a teeny flat square, but the one behind that……anyway) is so ard to type on (so, if there are lot’s of typos, that’s the issue!). And the internet is bugging me. I mean, we have DSL here, but even on the mac it seems so slow, cuz I guess my internet at home is just way faster, or something. I am getting very mpatient, and it’s not even taking that long. The windows, though. *shudder* I think it’s dying, everything take FOREVER. Seriously. I should hook my laptop up next time I come on, at least then, even if the internet is still “slow” I will be able to type and navigate better…..
Anyway, I’m home, obviously. (yay!) It’s been nice to sleep in my bed, see my family, and my kitty, too! We’ve got about 8 inches or so of snow on the ground, and it’s so nice compared to none at school…..unfortunataely, the ice n the lake is totally covered, so….no ice skaing til we get a windstorm to blow it all away. too bad, I kinda wanted to skate.
We got our christmas tree yesterday, and decorated it! twas fun, except for the traditional fighting and arguing amongst all of us…….
My grade on my geography final was posted! I got a 97 on the final, which gave me 92.7 in the course, which the prof rounded up to 93, the lowest score you can have and still have an A, not an A-. So, it looks like I got a solid A in geog! Which means I should end up with all As and a 4.0…..*is happy*
um, not much else going on……..off to other threads……
Happy 40th Anniversary of Apollo 8! (That’s the one that flew around the moon on Christmas Eve.)
344- She sounds like a splendid person to have known and to remember. We’re here for you.
Hey, GAPA’s! Could the christmas card be put on this page, so C++D and me know where it is? Thanks!
Announcer-Gim
Most Drawing-C++D(w/ some help from gim)
Script-Gim
(We sent it to you in an email) Sorry for double posting! Thanks! Cheers all!
*holiday pies everyone*
I also did the pickle eaters voice!! …gim only helped with animating the speech…
…i haven’t been on MB forever!!! wow… hmm.
*pies all*
337 – Hey Alice! I was wondering where you were, because I didn’t see you when I got back on the blog a few days ago. (Yes, I disappeared again. -ashamed- But what else is new?) That sounds like some serious fun. I wish we had kayaks, or I would totally try that.
352 – Ooh, my family has boats! We have 3 Capris 14s (which are a lot like Lasers, which we used to have when we lived in California) and 2 Sabots, which are even smaller boats. They’re awesome.
364- I haven’t been on a ton anymore. I feel sort of disconnected. A lot of the people I was close too have left, or don’t come on much anymore, and stuff, and my own life has been busier than it used to be.
We got our tree today.
361- I have not seen you i forever. *has missed you*
Gim/C++D- you need to get agagabagabag back on here.
I am in a peculiar mood. I do not know what to do. That is alright. I watched Fantasia. *love* Mostly. I like the one with the unicorns and flying horses. Except I totally hate the drunk man. He is kind of annoying. In all that short animation is ranked among my favorites.
365) I know. I haven’t been able to come on here a lot lately. But now that it’s Christmas break…………
366) That’s my favorite in that movie too!
Cheese pwn!
i will tell ag that everyone misses him. hmm..
Kagcomix misses him.
Yes! I miss him too!
359- Astronomy roxs!
365- I feel a bit that way too, has anyone seen NAPOI?
(Look, GAPAs, i don’t HAVE an email address.)
I’m a neophyte. And MF’s right: today’s phytes are capable. I just read a lot of posts on the random thread for a few weeks and I don’t even feel like a ‘phyte any more. I never looked at the ‘phyte’s thread, though I did read the rules and stuff. But what’s with the hot pink bunnies?
i like making flash animations.
343- it’s coming back?AWESOME!!!!!
we finally got our christmas tree today but we havent put it up yet. i heed to make christmas presents. i am too busy. i really really really dont want to go to school tomarrow.
Hannukah started tonight!
357~ I love cabbage. Yumyumyum.
365~ I’m still here! I know though, it does seem like many of my blog friends have been disappearing lately.
Grant came, stayed for a bit and is gone again, expletive. I was hoping he’d stay longer.
Astronomy: Anyone who’s interested should watch the course from the Teaching Company called “Understanding the Universe” by Alex Fillipenko. It’s flamablamablous course series on DVD…….very worthwhile if you can check it out (they’re expensive, but some libraries have them and a college library might also).
I read Gathering Blue by Lois Lowry today.
Found out that the new grocery store has a very cool corner with a cafe in it (you buy the food elsewhere and then take it in). It has free WiFi and is very cool. Purple (about the color of the comment box) and pale sage/lime green. One of my favorite color combinations……awesome light fixtures too.
Can anyone here teach me Elvish?
352- hmmm…well you completley lost me on that post! We saild together and all I know is that the buoys were named 1 2 and 3.
I’m worried for my dog the other day she puked up a rubber band and today we found a zipper in her poo…how did she eat that???
Today I saw Madagascar 2. Very funny, yet slighlty predictable. I am very excited for the release of Ice Age 3, mature, I know…but I am intrigued…the mammoth, the sloth and the tiger have survived a very long time, an ice age, a de-ice age and now dinosaurs? isn’t that millions of years? and also, in the 1st movie there were people..and now, later than that dinosaurs appear after humans? hmm…scandal!
376-talking about disappearances (not that I’m one to talk) what ever happened to Ebeth? She’s the only MBer I can remember from my first MB days, and LeMort and Red-Tailed Hawk
377~ The LOTR issue of Muse had an article about a certian David Salo (I think that was his name, anyway) who did the Elvish lines, etc. for the movies. Aren’t there appendixes in the back of the books too?
(Disclaimer: I am most emphatically not a LOTR fan. I’ve never managed to slog my way through the books and I was not incredibly impressed with what I did manage to get read. I enjoyed it, but it was not the best thing I’ve ever read in my life. Eventually I’ll take another whack at it, but it will be the third time I’ve tried to read those books. Mind you, this is coming from someone who loves to read long, wordy books* and just today sat down and read an entire novel. Granted, it wasn’t a very long novel or one of particular difficulty, but I wasn’t reading nonstop either, it took only a few hours and I wasn’t speeding.
*Tom Jones, anyone? Henry Fielding’s mini sermons every other chapter were a little taxing, I admit, but not unbearable.)
.377 – If I remember correctly from my LotR days, there are two kinds of elvish in LotR, Sindarin and Quenya, each used by a different kind of elf. One of the appendixes in RotK has some notes about the languages, and there are also some dictionaries you can find online. Google is your friend.
I seriously cannot believe I remember all of this. Of course, if you’re talking about elvish that is not in LotR, I can’t help you and you should ignore all of this.
There are many sites online that have elvish lessons I do believe. Good luck!
I just watched The Fellowship of the Ring while making a present for my brother.

381- We just watched the Fellowship too. Except that I missed most of the end because I got a call from E—, whom I haven’t seen since July. He’s coming to town for Xmas, and, being my ex-director and something of a theater-mentor for me, gave me a monologue to work and have ready by Saturday.
Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. As soon as I have access to the books I’ll study those, and in June I will beg the aid of the only other person I know who actually speaks Elvish.
