MuseBlog Generations, v. 2007

MontgomeryGurl determined there were six generations of MuseBloggers when she did the first list in March, 2006. Blog time moves quickly, and Alice has identified thirteen generations since the dawn.

Yes, I used MontgomeryGurl’s dates for the first five generations, since I wasn’t around in the beginning and therefore wouldn’t make a very good judge of where to place generations. After that I pretty much played it by ear. –Alice

Seems good to me. I wouldn’t really say I’m a gen 0er, because I only posted once pn GaBoomBa at the very begining, and there wern’t any conversations or anything back then, so I vanished. And when I came back MB was up! Yay!

*whistles* It’s long! But somehow Who’s Here seems much, much, longer. Yet everyone there is here. Weird.

I did it alphabetically, moving down through the Who’s Here page, so it doesn’t say how far along you are in your generation, but it’s not bad, if I do say so myself.

Pentatonkikk (#23) I organized all the MuseBloggers in order of when they first started posting, and then I graphed all the dates on a line graph. Like, if two new people came on one day, that date was graphed at two. So by looking at how the line went up and down, spiked, and things like that, I was able to see the distinct wave patterns in how people came. I divided up the waves into generations. Simple as that.

*feels really unprofessional*

But I guess that the Who’s Here page was smaller then, and she could graph it without dying.

46- I didn’t chart the waves. I just divided it up into times that seemed good. I think I may redo it the way MG did, but it might be too much work. For the one generation I was here for, it seemed about right. But I dunno.

Ha! I had an idea! It will take a little while, but I shall soon have The New And Improved Generations List, charted the way of the The First Generations List.
But I’ve lots of housework that takes priority, so you’ll have to wait a few days.

Thank god! I’ve been feeling decidedly unprofessional and spur-of-the-moment since seeing MG’s post, so this will be hugely better.

Sometimes I refer to people as variations as well as shortened names. ‘Skipperdoodles’ comes to mind, though that was a while ago and I was bored. I think I’ve refered to Purple Panda as Panda or PP.

HAWK is actually my code name for the kokonspiracy as well (I came up with something to match the letters). It stands for “Hiding Always Watching Ko-unit”, meaning I am sort of a spying/operations unit. I should really be over on the kokonspiracy thread more but a lot has been going on here on the blog!

Positively ancient! *feels rush of power and seniority* I can remember when there were so few people on the blog that the whole namelist fit in a bit more than one screen. And I miss MontgomeryGurl. I wish I had been on the MB in those good old days in the very beginning, and I also wish that once I came, I hadn’t been such a horrible poster. I was the queen of chatspeak (which I now despise) and lower-case letters and PoPosts and such. I’m a Gen6, so I’m really quite an oldie, but I wasn’t there in the real earlyness of the blog.
I was one of the youngest people who ever posted on the blog when I came. Imagine that.

141–I’m almost tempted to give it a whirl. Goodness knows I’m currently in the midst of procrastinating on the important task of studying for my calculus final (the last math test I will ever ahve to take!). However, given the time constraints, I am going to forgo the temptation, as I really can’t afford to blow off my studying. Perhaps later this week (tues/wed) when I have only one test left, and two days to study, I will feel that I have enough time that I can safely procrastinate…..We shall see.

141-I look at it as an advantage. There are a lot of old threads and RRRs and stuff to read, and you get to take a look at how people grew up…. The only thing I’m sorry about is that there were a bunch of people here in ’06 and ’07 that have left and that I’d have loved to talk to…. That’s why I was overjoyed when Grant and Shadowkat came back, even though they had no idea who I was and were probably kind of weirded out…

I’ve been working on my own generations, using Monty’s method. First, I’m putting all of the names into an excel chart. Then, I’ll make a graph and identify “waves,” and separate them out into generations. It’s incredibly time-consuming, though, because every time I go to work on it again, I have so many more bloggers to add in.

It’s really nice to see a thread that I thought was dead (yes, I’ve been on this thread before, didn’t post anything though) be resuscitated. I stuck on the Neophyte thread for way too long too. But it’s fun to read old threads, even if they’re closed and you can’t or don’t comment on them. I’ve learned a lot about people and life in general from just doing a random search of the threads.

174, 178- No, we’re probably something like Gen. 20. And don’t worry, nobody really judges you by how long you’ve been on the blog as long as you don’t behave like a total n00b. (No, not a neophyte. A neophyte behaves like Syllabub (when she was a phyte), who’s respectful and uses good grammar and spelling. A n00b is someone who doesn’t capitalize their name, uses chatspeak, and basically acts like an immature idiot. (I was like that in the very beginning.))

Pan: Maybe you could copy the list into a word processor, use global find-and-replace to change all the lefthand parentheses into tabs, use it again to get rid of righthand parentheses and other unwanted characters, and THEN copy it into Excel.

I’ve finished the excel charts (putting everyone into their respective weeks, etc.), and now I’m counting up the numbers, so I can graph them and divide out the generations.

While tallying, I came across a surprising statistic.
The biggest week in MuseBlog History was Week 32 (Mar 6-12 06). Guess how many people posted that week?
