How was everyone’s Halloween? My family and I just got together and watched the “Nighmare Before Christmas”. It was nice.

I LOVE Brodway musicals! The music is so flamblamablous! Some of my favorite musicals are the Roger and Hammerstein ones! Especially “The Sound of Music” and “The King and I”.
My friends love singing really annoying showtunes from broadway and non broadway musicals. For example, nicole went through a 1776 phase for a while (her favorite was repeatedly, out of the blue, starting to sing the line “For gods sake, John, sit down!”) Both almond joys and mounds are horrible. Neither. Halloween was very fun. My friend and I went as IRS auditors (I think I stole that idea off someone on the old halloween thread, sorry) It was more fun getting ready than actually going out. I made very real looking ID cards and stuff and in the id photos we made funny faces. First halloween I wasn’t cold. Everyone thought we were airline stewardesses. We kept getting candy handed to us by little kids. It was really weird. And we didn’t get to do our “our records indicate that your social security number belongs to a man named Juan Rodriguez living in Ohio.” bit, partly because we chickened out, partly because everyone kept shoving candy at us before we got chance. Oh well. Still fun. Made me feel old, though. First time my house almost ran out of candy. Lot of little kids. I felt bad though, when a couple of little kids from down the street couldn’t have any candy because their allergic to like, everything, and all I could give them was quarters for some allergy research fund. Poor kids, they’re gonna miss out on all the fun of halloween for the rest of their lives.
24- Me and my friends break out into Monty Python songs/sketches and HG2G spontaneously and often. For example, if I say, “Trouble at the mill,” then Molly will automatically say, “Oh, no, what kind of trouble?” Or if Sara says, “The answer to life, the universe” then me and Molly will say, “And everything…. is….. 42.” It’s sort of like a reflex with us. Also, today in Science we performed the Detective sketch.

I also love showtunes. Today my class took a field trip to see Of Mice And Men live (it was suprisingly good!) and my friends and I decided to randomly sing “It’s the hard knock life” from Annie in the middle of the street. It was great.
Yesterday I worked almost straight from when I got home from school at 5:30 unil 9:30, when I got to bed (take out time to eat dinner and shower and you get your figure) so I only had about an hour of homework to do tonight. So now I have SOOOO much free time until bedtime. Yaaaay!

Oh yeah. And we did writing exercizes in the theater today. It was GREAT! First the dude made us write for five minutes without stopping, about whatever came to mind. Then we wrote a list of four objects we would save if our house burned down. Then we wrote a list of four things that we fear. Then we wrote a name, age, and occupation belonging to a charecter. Then we took a random sentance from our original project and used it to write a story, also using one item from each list and with our profile charecter as the main charecter. Here are mine (I’m warning you right now, they are REALLY strange, weird, and altogether messed up.)
The trees swayed in the wind, making music, music, green brown leaves crackling swaying singing quiet broken melodies. And n the hard bent brown body runs the lifeblood, it runs in shimmering silver and song. The empty crackling moaning thin whipping twigs of white and gray, they blow, they blow and the little people sing and dance. Splotches of mobing gray on the great brown, swinging and twisting time in dance to the song. Who knows the song of the diamond river of light? He knows it as it rustles through his arms and twisting body, torrential moonlit streams in the night-paths of heaven, hist-wist. Is there a song?

Happy November everyone! It’s getting cold here but hasn’t yet snowed, the cows are still on pasture.
Today I wore my hair out instead of in a ponytail or braid and everyone kept looking at me and mentioning it, I hate that.
We started the unit on Shakespeare today and the teacher wore a Shakespeare tie for the occasion, it was wierd, with Shakespeare’s head in the middle. Shakespeare was ugly.Has anyone here read Romeo and Juliette? What was it like? We are starting it and it looks boring.

I haven’t read Romeo and Juliet, but I’ve heard and read som monologues from it, and I want to read it. It’s good, and it sounds good, but if you don’t understand the type of writing, it can be really boring and hard to understand.

10~ err…hard to decide: The American Indians were much better adapted, well fed and more interesting anthropologically, at least to me; However, the pilgrims eventually gained the upper hand, largely by trickery and glass beads. (the American Indian currency system was largely based off of wampum, made from the lining of clamshells. Not rare, but hard to make. The glass beads were essentially counterfeit wampum. There is more about these cultural exchanges (actually, mostly about South America and the Spanish and Incas) in Guns, Germs and Steel by Jared Diamond. Read it.

60- we were studying The Jungle by Upton Sinclair in Soc. St. last year and one day the teacher started by giving us all a Reeses. We couldn’t eat them until he was done talking about how food used to be packaged and all that. He finally said we could eat them, and went on to say that even today the FDA (?) allows certain ammounts of rat excriment in candies like Reeses. It was so funny, a couple of people almost threw up. It’s really just 1-2 parts per million, but still…

73-We’re reading The Diary of Anne Frank later this year. I hope to be Anne Frank, because she’s the lead character and also I’m Annie. My favorite part I ever read in a play was the narrator from the twilight zone episode “The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street”. We read that in English last year. And I was Mrs. Stratton in the school production of Barnum, also last year. I only had two lines. I’m not anything like her character, though.
Broadway musicals: I’ve seen Fiddler on the Roof(it was part of a camp trip, the 1st musical I ever saw), Phantom of the Opera(on a school band trip), and Hairspray(for my birthday last year). I have the soundtracks to all of them and also to Wicked(borrowed from my sister who saw it while at camp). I want to see Wicked and Spamalot .
Today in math I proved logically that 6=-6. Then, walking to the bus, I proved logically that logic doesn’t exist. Now I’m confused.

So sorry your birthday’s not on the calendar. When is it?

this might be classified as a complaint, but it’s really just an opinion I had today. In aerobics, my teacher opened the outside door because it was getting stuffy, and some leaves blew in near the end of class. Some girl looked at them and said “ew, yuck. Why does she leave the door open so dirty leaves can get in here?” Her friend nodded. I wanted to yell “They’re natural and beautiful. We’re the dirty ones, the blight on nature. Here we are, doing unnatural exercises on synthetic mats and your saying that nature has no right to be here?” I was just so angry that these people can grow up so sheltered in their houses and malls and highways they forget it’s not our planet. If we don’t save it, we are going to die. Soon. It’s really sad. The other day, it was unnaturally warm, so instead of letting the sibs (boy and girl twins, age 12) sit in front of the television, I packed a picnic and dragged them to the park. Now, I know that they will remember that day whereas by next week they will not remember what shows they were watching while wasting their lives. So I urge you, go out and play while you can.

Okay….six threads times three hundred posts each divided by thirty days equals…sixty? That’s not too bad. I’d go with sixty-three per day, though, because new threads are hardly ever started when the post count on the old thread is at exactly 300. That would allow for 315 each, on average.
Actually, that’s wrong. That might allow for seven parts. I need to defrag my brain. Five threads times three hundred and fifteen posts each divided by thirty days would be around 53 posts per day. For thirty-one days, about 51. And then only a few more posts would be required for the six thread goal. I hope. If this is wrong, I implore you to correct it.

OK, so I wore my Heelys to skool today. Only b/c I haven’t done that in a while. So I got through most of the day with nobody noticing I had wheels on the bottom of my shoes. Then, half an hour before skool ended, my teacher was like, “Allegra!!!! What do you have in your shoes?!?” and I was sheepishly like, “Um..wheels,” and she was like “Take them off!” and so I did, and put them in my backpack. But then I said to her, “Well, Melissa’s wearing them too,” and she exploded like, “Melissa!!! I told you three times to take those things off!! Give them to me, they are now my property!!” and I felt pretty well-off.

I went to a girl scout digital photography workshop today. She was holding a thong in her hand, waving it and trying to get the attention of one of her friends by shouting, “Katie Katie Katie!” Just then, our band director walks by and says, “I’m going to pretend I don’t see you here.”
When she told me that story I almost malfunctioned laughing so hard. That is one of the funniest stories I’ve ever heard. In fact, I should tell that when I’m doing a stand-up routine.
Have any of you heard about the Davidson Academy in Reno, Nevada? It’s a school for profoundly gifted students, and it’s PUBLIC. You work with the teachers to develop your own curriculum, and you go at your own speed. It’s basically a school of musers. It just opened at the beginning of this school year. My mom says “No, we are not moving to Reno.”

Yesterday evening I was getting a pizza out of the oven with one of those paddle things, and with my other hand tried to get out a cutting board, but I lost my balance and the pizza landed on me, scalding my left hand and my knees. Good thing I was only wearing jeans with big holes in the knees. Needless to say, the pizza was not consumed by humans, as most of the toppings that didn’t land on me landed on the floor. I had one happy dog.
202- Ouch. My sister still makes fun of me for my burn story. I was trying to get those instant mash potato things out of the microwave, only they weren’t turning into mash potatos because I had added too much water, so I had put them in for another minute, and when I took them out I accidentally tipped the container spilling scalding mash potato water all over my hand. It really hurt, but my sister the sadist found it funny that I got burned by watery mashed potatos. Last time I ever ate instant mashed potatos, thats for sure.

they take little dried flake sof potato and then you had hot water and margerine/butter and viola- mushy mash patatoes.

I’m really nervous because this is the first year I’m old enough to be in the Middle School Play and this week is the audition for the dance chorus and next week are the auditions for the acting. I’m auditioning for both. Also, you have to audition for the chorus if you want a leading or supporting role, which I DEFINITELY want but have almost no hope of getting.

So I’m not really excited about election day. (I know that this really belongs on the hot topics thread, but here’s the truth GAPAs: nobody much visits it anymore. Until you give us a new one I will continue to post stuff which belongs there on this general thread). My prediction is that the democratics gain a pretty big majority and prove that they are not really that much better than the republicans at legislating, so when the presidential election comes around and there’s a race between McCain and either Clinton or pick a democrat, McCain will win. So a democratic victory would not really be a victory for the democrats. Although I will admit to kind of liking McCain (yeah, I’m pretty liberal) as politicians go, he would certainly give the republican party a lot of momentum which they would probably use to put someone I like a lot less in his office.

But yeah. It’s all pretty intense. the junk mail is unbelievable.

I wish we had choklit. a couple days ago we went to this little teeny italian place downtown and they undercooked the meat so we sent it back and they were like “we’re sorry, do you want free desserts?” so we were like “SVEET!” and got these little balls of choklit that were like solid dark choklit all the way through with choklit powder on them and lots of choklit syrup dripped all over the plate. My best friend was in the newspaper! it was about a band he’s in that is like touring nationally! I won’t be able to go near him for about a month because he’s gonna be so puffed up with pride. His girlfriend will probably be more puffed up than he is tho. Last year this band was playing in teir garage now they’ve got a gig almost every weekend. scary.

262- I’m writing a story about how in the 3000s scientists realized that trees and clouds were intelligent, but on different timescales. In the 4000s, due to pollution, global warming, etc, the trees and clouds are on the same timescale as the current dominant species (cats) and so the trees want revenge for the humans & cats killing so much of their fellows. It’s told in first person, and the protagonist is a Hunter, their job is to hunt down trees and clouds and either tranqulize them, hypnotize them, or release a gas into their olfactory center that returns them to their normal timescale. Remember, they’re all cats. The humans are like what pandas are to us. Cute, but rare and endangered. And very stupid, like the Eloi. There’s going to be this line in the beginning-
“The trees,” she said. “They’re too powerful.”
And I need a name for my protagonist. Ideas?

Okay, sorry. We just got our results from the playing test in band back today. I’m 3rd chair flute. Why arn’t I happy? Well, probably because all the seniors hate me now because a freshman beat them all. Chair 1&2 are juniors, and so is chair 4, then there’s a senior. And now I’m scared. I allready know that the flute behind me is going to challange me somtime soon, and part of the chalange is sight reading. Sight reading. Ooooooh… I am not good at sight reading. The only reason I did well in auditions was because I practiced the peice like 20 times. And I know that all the other seniors will be mad now, and want to move up sence freshmen arn’t supposed to be so high up. Ahh!! It’s not fair. In the last three years, there has only been one chalange and now it’s like everyone in my section is obsessed with moving up. Oh dear. *dies*
