  1. Robert Coontz (Administrator) says:

I’ll start by posting the lyrics to “Have a Pie” for those who weren’t there to receive our welcome kit. It’s sung to the tune of “Let It Be.”

When I find myself in times of trouble
    Kokopelli happens by
Speaking words of comfort: Have a pie.
And if I’m tired and gloomy
He is sure to catch me on the sly,
Flinging pans of pastry: Have a pie.

CHORUS: Have a pie, have a pie, have a pie, have a pie.
Flinging pans of pastry, have a pie.

When I wake up in the morning
Something hits me in the eye:
Globs of lemon custard — Have a pie.
And every time I turn a corner
Crust and filling from the sky
Splatter on my shoulders — Have a pie.

CHORUS: Have a pie, have a pie, have a pie, have a pie.
Splatter on my shoulders, have a pie.

    Pumpkin, peach, banana, cherry,
Sweet enough to make you cry,
Dribble down my forehead — Have a pie.
    Chocolate cream and apple-rhubarb
    Warmer than a lullaby
Pie me into dreamland — Have a pie.

CHORUS: Have a pie, have a pie, have a pie, have a pie.
Pie me into dreamland, have a pie.

    (2) I wrote most of it during an afternoon last weekend, and then I refined a couple of the lines during the week. It came together quickly — almost as if not-quite-audible voices were dictating it to me. Funny how that happens…

4- Yeah, I love songs/poems lke those. That was how I wrote last years GAPA appreciation day song, this years took a little longer.

Post the songs, people, if you recorded them! I’d love to hear them!

11~ You call yourself ugly?! You’re not.

The kokonvention was SO MUCH FUN!!!!!! I can’t say that enough. Thanks so much to the wonderful GAPAs who pulled it off.
The muse-ical part was great, both Rebbeca and Robert have really nice voices for singing, and, of course, those were really good songs! I have had “Mamas Don’t let Your Babies Grow Up to be Muses” stuck in my head all day, save me!!!!

423(on previous thread)~ That sounds like fun! We left and went to the House of Musical Traditions afterwards. but it sounds cool, getting to hang out with the GAPAs and various MBloggers some more. everyone was so nice.

426 (also on prev. thread)~ Yes, I emailed everybody to make sure that I had the correct names and emails. so far I’ve heard back from Purple Panda, Glassboro and you. And yes, I’m sure all the Kokonvention deprived MBloggres are ready to kill us, and it won’t help to remind each other to check our emails. That being said, go check your email! *evil laugh*

I’m going to wave at the AAAS building every time I’m in DC now, or better yet, do the Koko sign! Yeah, that’s what I’ll do!

(16, 17) MF: I just hope you all had half as much fun as we did.

The House of Musical Traditions was one of my favorite hangouts when I lived in Takoma Park just after graduating from college. Did you see any concertinas there?

By the way, I’ve figured out what was going on with “Ashokan Farewell.” You had learned it as an air, while the pianist was playing it as a waltz. Both are perfectly valid ways of playing it, but airs are slower and more free-form and tend to work best as solos.

  21. Midnight Fiddler says:

19~ Bah, you’re cool. When did you check your email? I just sent you one about 15 minutes ago! geez, get with it. *kidding*

20~ It was fantastic! I really can’t say that enough, it’s such an understatement, not even flamablamuluos [sp?] can describe how great it was. Thanks for putting in so much time and effort into making the blog such a great place to be, and then having a Kokonvention for us. It really was amazing.
the House of Musical traditions was neat, I’ve been there before, but a long time ago. We went to look at concertinas, and I managed to figure out a C scale with a lot of hunting and pecking. Saving the allowance now…..a couple hundred dollars more!

Ashokan farewell went awry for a few reasons, not the least was my lack of practicing it, heh, heh, whoops. I got lost when the piano takes the melody and violin plays double stops, that was the hardest part when I was learning it too. I ended up a good bit ahead of the piano, so I think I skipped a few measures from nerves and small print on the music. That and it was dark where I was hiding in the corner! ;) In all though, the whole “Muse-ical” part went really well I think. But I STILL have tat song stuck in my head.

  23. Rebecca Lasley (Administrator) says:

To say I had a great time and enjoyed meeting MBers and their family members would be woefully inadequate. Unfortunately, at the moment my verbal abilities seem to have deserted me. Today all my thinking seems to take the form of singing or dancing or piano playing and none of it transliterates very well into typed words. (Ever have days like that?)

So, for the moment pardonez-moi if I merely nod my head “yes” to what others have said.

Once I can sit quietly for more than five minutes and concentrate with sufficient clarity to figure out what I’m doing, I’ll get to work on selecting some Kokonvention pictures to post.

  25. Midnight Fiddler says:

Usually when I have days like that my thoughts are converted into singing, violin/fiddle playing and jumping all over the place and usually knocking things over. I know exactly how it is.

  27. Midnight Fiddler says:

24~ Thanks, that’s going to be on the blog?! Did you get the back of it with the  on it? I think Rebecca got a pic.
As much as I’d love to brag, it was my Mom who really designed it. I just said, “I’m too lazy to carry around a psudopie, I’ll just make it a purse!” I pretty much said what I wanted it to look like and Mom figured out how to do it, then we split the sewing. Mom got the bigger half.

26- It’s closer to where I live than DC. I’d hopefully be able to come. :)

It would have been great to pop over from England, but I had to wander up and down the main street of Walsall, providing musical accompaniment for a nine foot tall monk. 59~ Okay, no offence, but I think that the emails should be used to communicate directly with people about things that can’t be said on the blog, such as getting together and such.
The GAPAs work really hard to make MuseBlog a fun and safe place to be, and I don’t think it’s fair to organize an email loop for several reasons. One, the health of the blog, two, it’s really exclusive to the people who have been lucky enough to go to a Kokonvention, and the others who didn’t make it get left in the dust. Three, I’d prefer to know, or meet in person the people that know my email adress. I’m not trying to be a spoil sport, but I think that this is an issue that needs to be discussed.

    Pie 0

  61. Red-tailed HAWK says:

I certainly agree we must stick with the blog, but I’m not too concerned about the other e-mails. I do not think I will tell people I haven’t met much about me, but other than that I don’t see a problem. I do, however, look forward to when the mail slows down a bit. Things are getting sent to everyone that might not even be needed by the person intended to read it. I’m not saying it’s wrong, but I do believe we have all been just a bit over-excited by meeting each other.

I also think the best way to make people who don’t have the e-mail addresses feel better is to just stop talking about this altogether, rather than rubbing in the fact that we have the addresses, even if by solving problems that arise due to having them. [/terrible long sentence of terror :) ]

But rereading it, it carries none of the anger and bitterness that I actually am projecting into it, so I’m submitting it. If it seems to you like I’m being a horrible immature brat, then I am sorry. You’ll be pleased to know I won’t be here for most of the week.

Can we have a Kokonvention in PA or somewhere near PA please please please pretty please??? I feel left out. Okay, not really. But I still can’t go to DC ’cause of marching band even though I live only like 3-4 hours away. Ah well.

74-Hermgrlerg. Depends where it is. Relatively easy driving distance, w/o needing to stay in a hotel would be about what I think my parents would consider. But not right now, we’re going to be busy soon. Hmmm…Sometime in September might work, but it would have to be a Saturday for most people I guess. It could work out, though! :)

73-Why??? *weeps* I like you, why should I be happy??

What’s nice about PA for a Kokonvention (especially Pittsburgh!) is that most people in PA could come, people in Ohio, Maryland, D.C., West Virginia, and many other places could come. And a lot of people live in those areas – it’s a really central location :D:D:D

I could come to PA, probably. Or New Jersey, probably. I mean, I came to Washington, and that’s pretty much the outer limit of driving distance from here. And I want to hold a NY one, only I don’t think we could hold it in my home town and I don’t know if parents would be willing to go somewhere else. Who thinks that meeting at a museum in NYC for a day would be a good thing? Nothing’s wrong with [snip!] but watch it get snipped from the comment.

Day Two of the Kokonvention is now in full swing. Ebeth, kt the gr8, the Qween of Green, and Red-tailed HAWK are touring National Public Radio even as I write. Soon they’ll be strolling by to scoop me up for lunch. (I mean that we’re going to lunch together, not — you know.) Then, off to visit Ivars Peterson in his mysterious domain.

I had a great time at the Wednesday Kokonvention yesterday, even if by some egregious cosmic glitch I wound up sitting at the “adult” end of the lunch table. It’s too bad that I had to work and couldn’t spend more time with the MBers, but I’m sure Ivars and Lady Bunniful and the fine folks at NPR kept everybody well occupied.

Thunderstorms today. Glad we’re not out in that.

  91. Ebeth The Titleless says:

omgz robert have you ever been in the math building? it’s sweet. it’s got all these amazing sculptures and stuff

actually what we did was really interesting. i was kind of thinking “oh god…math over the summer…” but it was cool math. meaning math that teachers never think of teaching because it doesn’t involve lots of complicated numbers.

NPR was great too. we had a good tour guide i think, he seemed to know a lot about what was going on.

oh wait, GAPA RC!!!! i have to yell at you, because you missed signing my kokopelli shirt, which i made everybody else do. except it’s more my fault, but i’m blaming you. bwahaha.

i got to meet green qween, kt the gr8, rtH, and green qween’s brother, along with GAPAs LB and RC. (the remote control GAPA wasn’t there for a lot of it though).

kt the gr8 and green qween both remind me of people i know, and both were pretty talkative after the initial “hi, i’ve talked to you online for ages but i don’t actually know you so wow this is you, this is rather awkward” moment. they were both cool :D kt the gr8 and rtH were both younger than i expected, especially kt. rtH was a bit quieter but nice, and he kind of initiated the “let’s get out of this awkward circle and talk to each other a bit” movement while we were waiting for robert at B&N.

LB was really talkative and insanely fun. she taught us how to make bunnies out of napkins (although not hot pink, alas).

it was impossible to frown around robert. he’s a giant kid in a suit, and he’s interested in everything. :D

thanks for the pies, the tours, and the laughs everybody!

The rest of our vacation in DC was fun too. we went to the library of congress (not particularly interesting actually, but amazing architecture), the national archives (my fav, they had some great exhibits, and they had the touch-screen things that let you look at the documents and zoom in and stuff. we didn’t see the constitution, declaration, or bill of rights because there was an insanely long line. we did see the magna carta though, which i didn’t know was in there. while we were waiting to get in, dad asked “which four documents are in the rotunda?” and we were like “four?!” so i guessed the mayflower compact, and dad said “no, the magna carta” and i was like “??? don’t the brits want it?” but apparently it was renewed by each king, so we have the one edward signed. but anyway), the folger shakespeare library (that was my second fav), the natural history museum (very cool), the american indian museum (amazing food, and AMAZING gift shop. expensive though), the air and space museum (i piloted on the simulator thing. lb wasn’t happy, i made him go upside down twice. after a while, he just started shooting randomly, because i definitely wasn’t leading him to any enemy planes (but wheeeeee! it was fun)), and of course NPR, the mathmatics association of america (we got a squishy icosahedron!), and the national press club (bunnies!!!)

91~ Sounds cool. The Folger is one of my faveorite places to be in Washington DC, their plays are fantastic. Except the last time they did the Tempest, it wasn’t so great that time.
Rebecca did the napkin bunnies at the Fri. one too, right in the midle of Robert’s announcement, as you may imagine, everyone’s attention was immediately drawn to the bunny. We threatened to slather it in katsup to make it pink, but decided that the Press Club people would be less than pleased….. heh, heh, heh.

Glad you all enjoyed it. (sorry Glassboro, if I’ve stolen what you were going to say again….)

91-I’ve been to the Folger! It was amazing–I got my copy of Romeo and Juliet from there, and a cool acid-free (?) bookmark. My dad was doing a project there, once, I think. And it was cold (For all the old books, I think?). But I was able to have a big tour, although I was slightly creeped out by the ghost stories… I’ve never seen a play there (Though I wanted to, and I saw the stage), but I saw one of the exhibit-thingys.
