thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouGAPAs!!!! squee!! w00t!!
Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z are the official ruling manga of this thread. bweeheehee.
heh. my firstpost celebration got deleted. go figure.
And Tintin rules the graphic novels.
4- Definitely. The Tintin series are the only graphic novels I’ve ever read, in fact.
whatever. DBZ is reigning manga.
and of course, naruto is reigning anime. cha!!
heh. name changes come in handy sometimes.
I’m strongly for Tintin being one of the foremost graphic novels. I used to be a ravenous fan of the chap.
However, I am a firm believer in Case Closed being the best manga. Although at times things can be irritating and implausible, it’s still the best I’ve read. Interesting, gripping, and with a minimum of smut. The violence is at neither extreme, at the level of fulfilling requirements without being overly gory.
i like tintin but ive never read case closed. is it good?
Well, I like it. It’s for older teens, or so the rating on the book says. Very interesting plots that I won’t spoil.
Grant O. has obviously never read DBZ. tis the best manga EVER!!!!! bwahahahaha!!!
I don’t read much manga. Pity me if you like.
(9) I should look into reading both of those. I know a bit about Cased Closed/Detective Conan, but I’ve only hard of Tintin. Next trip to the bookstore, I’ll see about both of them.
(12) ….lul. It’s over 9000.
N00berSaiyan will address the Chairman by his proper title or be pwned. I have no intention of reading that. Hey, Kiki, haven’t seen you in a while.
I recommend Bone, though I currently cannot remember the author’s name. It may not be manga, but it is delightfully funny and thrilling at the same time.
Okay, about five wooden crates stuffed with manga books recently grew out of the floor in the teen section of my library. I wandered over, keeping in mind how the manga fans I know are fairly insane, and started skimming them. The only thing I know about manga is that it’s Asian and the pages go backwards. SO, where’s the best place to start? It doesn’t have to be the ultimate best series, but more of an introduction to the whole genre. For example, Ender’s Game is often credited as sci-fi for people who don’t like sci-fi. Is there manga that’s like that, or is it mostly the case that people either love it or hate it? I just want to read something authentic, not Americanized.
17 – MegaTokyo is your basic introduction to manga. it reads backwards, is Japanese (no duh), and has complete randomness, just like every good manga.
USECGO didn’t even address himself by his proper name, the hypocrite. USECGO, you must (MUST) agree that DBZ is simply fr00dy, phantasmagorical, flamablamablous, and just awesome in general.
BTW, Bone = evil
The Chairman can address himself however he wants, being of equal rank. As you are a lowly n00b, I see no reason whatsoever that you may address me as you wish. I’ve never read Dragon Ball Z, nor do I have any intention of doing so. Here’s my process of elimination:
1. Does the title contain the name of a mythological animal or made-up name?
2. Does the title contain an isolated letter?
3. Does the artistry contain generic anime/manga people, complete with spiky hair and shiny eyes with a notch out of the pupil?
4. Are there people with larger-than-life muscles whom you never, ever see working out?
5. Are magic/special balls in the manga/anime anywhere?
6. Are there ridiculous plots that, like oh so many movies, involve an evil force attempting to sweep across the world like the Mongols across Asia Minor?
If more yes answers than no, return it to the shelf and move on to something worthwhile. If more no answers than yes, go ahead and read it.
I’d add more steps (or steppes, if you want to have a silly Mongolia-related pun) but frankly, I have better things to do. Now I must go get a snack.
first off, you have no right to call me a n00b. second off, those are all descriptions of DBZ in an extremely pessimistic light. as robert coontz said on the religions thread, you’re fighting against your version of DBZ. you can’t know if it sucks if you haven’t read it. reasons for all of your questions would be found if you would read it. i bet i could find plenty of reasons to not read this “Case Closed”, you n00b.
besides, you see them working out. more like intense training.
training in 50 times earth’s gravity.
First of all, I have every right to call you a n00b, but I’m not going to debate that point. Second of all, I have every right to believe what I want to believe about it. I’m not saying that it sucks, just that I don’t happen to feel like reading it and that I prefer Case Closed. If I find Tsubasa kind of cool but a smidge ridiculous, what makes you think I’d enjoy Dragon Ball Z? I have what I like, you have what you like. Everybody wins if you concede the point that there could be better mangas than yours for other people. Also, my public library hasn’t got any mangas, and I’m not going to sit in Borders reading it to see if I like it. Third of all, you might want to condense your posts, so you don’t make it jump from post 19 to post 22. Notice how I accomplish three times as much as you do.
Oh, and training in 50 times Earth’s gravity would kill a person. One may survive up to forty for extremely short periods of time, but if it were prolonged, one would be crushed by their own weight.
Oob does not like it when people act as though n00bs are inferior, partly because Oob is a demi-n00b (word I just coined which means someone who has been around long enough to know the ropes, but not as long as some). Pardon Oob if he sounds snippy, but Oob believes that all MBers are equal.
(17) Not all anime/manga fans are crazy. You’re probably only familiar with the Japanophiles or whatever that thing everything is “KAWAIIII!!!!~~~~~~” and such. Where to start depends on your tastes. II’d reccommend just browsing through until something catches your eye, really. Most art usually gets better as the story progresses, so don’t judge it too quickly.
(18) Actually, MegaTokyo was originally a fancomic, and is not Japanese made. Nor does it read in the Japanese style to my knowledge.
Let’s not debate DBZ, it’s the shonen archetype for a series. Yes it’s interesting but by no means the most complex of stories. Everyone likes different things.
Recently I’ve been reading Korean mahnwa (pardon the spelling if it’s wrong!) a lot. Other than that I keep up with Naruto on the internet.
Oh man, all anime is crazy! The best anime EVER is made by studio Ghibli, who are responsible for, among other things, Howl’s Moving Castle, Nausica of the Valley of the Wind, My Neighbors the Yamadas, Porco Rosso, Pom Pokko, and Princess Mononoke , the BEST MOVIE EVER!!!!!!! *squee*
Also, some pretty cool movies are on YouTube. Everyone check out these movies on YouTube that i like, keyword “Yu-gi-oh the abridged series”. I reccommend episodes 1,5,8,9,11,13,17,18,19, and the christmas special.
I agree with that about Studio Ghibli, but I’m thinking different movies.
Like Totoro. But- the best movie ever by Studio Ghibli is Spirited Away. It’s so good! I love it!
27-w00t. not… really.
24 (Oob)- According to some sort of consensus on lol teh internets, there is a difference between n00bs and newbs.
A newb might type something like this: “Hi. I’m new to this site but it looks cool so I joined. I’m fourteen and my favorite anime/manga is Nauto.”
A n00b might type something like this: “HIIIIII KAWAIIIIIIIIIIII~~~^_^_^_^_^ mai name is really mildred but u hav 2 call me ayame yume neko-chan-sama cuz im JAPANIS_SAN an if u dont mai flaing monkeis will get u~~~~~~!!!!11!! LOL!!!11!!!! I LUV NARUTO all the blood iz so KAWAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII~~~~~~~~~!!!!!111!!!!!!!!!!!11!!1 i luv garrakunsankun bc he haz a dark past just lyke me!”
Basically, a newb is not much different from other members of a forum, just newer. A n00b is annoying and should be shot by a dubbing squad.
I will leave it up to more offensive bloggers to determine which variety various bloggers are.
Saiyen-san, would you please give me a reason why bone is evil?
Studio Ghibli definitely makes some good anime. Spirited Away and Princess Monaroke (aack, horrible spelling) are my personal favorites.
I also reccomend Grave of the Fireflies to those who haven’t heard me reccomend it already.
DBZ is über long. Not that long series is a bad thing. Ruroni Kenshin is good, and it is long as well.
That’s not the only definition of a n00b. I’m referring to a definition that’s very hard for me to explain. It’s not necessarily a bad thing to be that kind of n00b.
Naruto and Shaman King!!
(29) SESSHOMARU-SAMA IS TEH KAWAIIIIIIII~~~~~♥♥♥ the anime movie to see, but alas.
MY COMMENT WAS EATEN. Oh well. Ignore the last bit. -tear-
ok, USECGO, can we please just agree to disagree?
30 – not exactly evil, but it’s not really that great, either. absurd storyline, bizarre characters, and almost no violence = not so great. to me, it seems that you’ve got to at least have a little violence for it to catch your eye.
34 (Axa)- Manga threads seem to do that, yes. :U
35 (He of the Many Names)- -hums- all you need is love…
I just finished writing a history paper on hippies. Blame them.
But seriously, what’s wrong with non-violent manga? Besides, in most manga someone hits someone at least once.
26- Since when do people know about Princess Mononoke? No-one that I knew before this year had heard of it. It’s a great movie, though.
Glassboro, Mononoke is awesome! A lot of people know about it. Go Miyazake! I plan to watch Howl’s moving Castle for the twentieth time soon!
I rather dislike Howl’s Moving Castle, personally. But I am always mad at movies made out of my favorite books. If I’d seen it without reading the book I might have liked it. However, they didn’t ev- Never mind.
39 (Alice)- Really? I’ve read the book and watched the movie Howl, and I love both to death. For one thing, Howl is hawt times fifty bajillion thousand. I normally don’t like movie adaptations as much as the books they’re based on, but in this case they’re more equivalent because the movie doesn’t seem like it’s trying to follow the original story and failing miserably.
36 – Bone isn’t actually manga. (doesn’t deserve it.)
41 – Is that going to be your new name, Mr. ridiculously-long-list-of-names-on-the-Who’s-Here-page?
That’s what I was going for, Saiyan. Peace.
Bone is truly the best. Go Bone!
38- I know that it’s the best. I’ve watched it, and own it. However, I wouldn’t actually say that it’s the absolute best. The Holy Grail’s better.
I lurvie Miyazaki! ‘Specially Spirited Away.
42 – apparently so. it’s the one name i’ve found that actually fits.
43 – ok. maybe i might try reading Case Closed.
44 – no, it’s not. is your name Dan?
DBZ ROX!!! SO DUZ NARUTO!!!
48-ummm. see comment 29. lol
45-umm. completely different thing?
i just read a really good graphic novel, called moonshadow. really good. look it up, NOW!!
bone isnt manga because it is a different style. its called graphic novel. but bone is very good.
arrgh! must./……stiop……..procrastinating…..
peh. (newword!!)
oob, oob, where have i heard that name before? oh yeah! you’re Boo’s reincarnation.
51- Who is this Boo person?
I am the boo person. i am michael jackson [language zapped-Your om is a monkey gayfor]
(35)-I guess thats the reason I like Bone. It has a wimsy, fairy tale like quality that I really enjoy. I don’t mind violence, but you can make a good graphic novel without any blood violence it it’s told well.
(41)-Your right, but for the wrong reason, if I say so myself. Bone is not in manga style, therefore it isn’t manga. And this thread is for Graphic Novels in general as well
4- tintin is not a graphic novel.
kagcomix clears throat- ahem. every one is getting a little bit confused about the actual deffinition of graphic novel, comic books and manga. graphic novels are comix of 100 or more pages of one story. comics BOOKS are shoter. traditional manga is japanese and read backwards. i hate flipped manga.there are also people such as chynna clugston who draw in manga style. i hate bone because it is a boring storyline and it is bound badly. the first page of mine fell out. i like watching anime with subtiles. i can patialy understand japanese so i like listning to the conversation and matching words. i read to many manga and what not to write it down. here is what i am reading: hunterxhunter, shaman king, dark horses, scott pilgrim.
Kag draws her own comix and stuff. i recently inked a page. it’s inked pretty badly but i am proud. i don’t do manga sryle because the eyes are hard to draw without them looking sleep deprived. i have my own style. Does any one else create?
55- Hooray for Shaman King!
Hey, does anyone here who’s read american born chinese know if it’s a manga? It’s hard to tell.
53-
Also 53- ??????????????????????????????????
(55) I draw a lot, but I’ve never done full scale comics. That’s awesome you do, though!
(56) It’s not. Manga comes from Japan. I liked that graphic novel though, from what I read of it. XD
Has anyone here ever read Death Note? I have never touched manga in my life, but i have friends who are really into Death Note, and i was wondering if it’s really as great as all that.
55 (Kag)- Penty tries. But…oh god, you do not want to see what she produces.
56 (ag)- It’s not manga, but it’s farking awesome anyway.
59 (ykm)- Ooh, haven’t seen you around the blog in a while. Yo! I haven’t read Death Note but I know a lot of people who obsess over it. From what I understand, its yaoi fandom is more rabid than Naruto’s, though, so I’m a little scared.
I love Avatar! It is cool, but I recently stopped watching AS OFTEN! My plan is to get the Season sets to watch the whole thing. Also, I saw this trailer for Season three: Fire.
[Oh, look: a link. Snip! –Robert]
This trailer soils the honour of Avatar! There are no scenes from Season three – I repeat, NO SCENES FROM SEASON THREE! And the person used Star Wars music! I mean, I like Star Wars as much as the next guy, but I draw the line at crossing it with something.
61- Uh, how old are you?
(59) Oh, it’s pretty good. It’s really in depth though. It took me two hours to read the first volume, if I remember right, and I’m a pretty fast reader. I haven’t read the more recent relseased volumes though.
(60)….. I don’t think a fandom exists that is more rabdily yaoi shipping than Naruto. But then again, I’m not too involved in the fandom there, so D:
(61) I’m sure you know, but Avatar isn’t anime. JUST CLEARING THAT UP, IN CASE. DDDX But it’s an entertaining show from what I’ve seen of it.
I’m re-reading MARS, which is one of the first shojo series I read. I think it was the third, actually. After Kodocha and Marmalade Boy. I don’t t remember if I read all of it though, actually. Maybe it was just the majority. ANYWAY. IT’S AWESOME, READ IT.
63: Sci-Fi weekly says:
“With its long story arc, Asian-influenced designs and themes, terrific animation and zippy leaps between comedy and drama, Avatar blurs the line between anime and domestic cartoons until it becomes irrelevant. A great show is great no matter its country of origin.”
Just playing devil’s advocate.
runnawayusw rock! anyone else read runnaways? I only read the first 2 big books so dont ruin anything for me…
Why did my link get deleted?!
62 – 11. Why?
63 – Well, it’s close!
63 (Axa)- I’m sure one exists. Like, I dunno, an actual yaoi series? (Speaking of which, my friend is going to tie me to a chair and force me to read FAKE.) Unless you meant fanon, in which case either nothing or Death Note.
I’ve watched segments of the Taiwanese drama version of MARS (which is also awesome) and read the first few volumes of the manga. It reminds me of Furuba but not funny.
I DO BELIEVE I MUST WATCH AVATAR.
66 (I-Man)- LOOK A NO-LINKS POLICY
OMG WHERE
Penty has decided that it is time for a MEME that she found randomly somewhere on teh internetz. Probably LiveJournal because that’s where she gets most of her random memes. Hennywai.
Pick a fandom and go. Penty shall do Inuyasha, for old time’s sake, and Naruto, for new time’s sake. She would also do Ranma but she has no idea what their fandom is like.
Inuyasha
1. The first character I fell in love with: Sango. She still remains totally awesome.
2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Kagura. At first I was rather indifferent to her. Then I realized how much she owned, character-wise.
3. The character everyone else loves that I don’t: Kagome. I don’t hate her, but I really wish someone else were the main character.
4. The character I love that everyone else hates: Kikyou. Like Kagome, but cool.
5. The character I used to love but don’t any longer: Kagome again. At first I thought she had character depth. Then I realized she didn’t.
6. The character I’d want to be like: Sango. She’s amazingly strong, physically and mentally, and humorously romantically inept.
7. The character I’d slap: Miroku. But only because everybody else does.
8. A pairing that I love: Sesshoumaru x Kagura. OT freaking P.
9. A pairing that I despise: Sesshoumaru x Rin. Mostly because it’s usually written terribly.
Naruto
1. The first character I fell in love with: Kakashi. And this was before I heard his voice in the anime.
2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Sakura. PRZ DO NOT KILL ME AXA -shields- No realli, I think she has actual defined goals now, and I like her mostly because of the way she’s grown. She’s still not my favorite character or anything, but I respect her now, which is more than I could say at the beginning of the series.
3. The character everyone else loves that I don’t: Gaara. Yeah, he’s creepily cool, but that’s about all he’s got. That and angst, anyway. I’m hoping that’ll be different the next time he appears.
4. The character I love that everyone else hates: Orochimaru. He’s creepily cool, like Gaara, and ugly, like Gaara, but unlike Gaara, he actually has motivations other than ‘Shukaku made me do it.’ And maybe those motivations are sick and twisted. Still.
5. The character I used to love but don’t any longer: Shikamaru. Though this is entirely Kishimoto’s fault and I still adore him in fanon.
6. The character I’d want to be like: OMGAI. CAPSLOCK FTW.
srsly, Temari. Because she’s um…awesome?
7. The character I’d slap: Neji.
8. A pairing that I love: Sasori x Deidara. And you should know this by now. LESS THAN THREE.
9. A pairing that I despise: Shikamaru x Ino. If this were even faintly canon, I’d have less of a problem with it. But it’s not, and it’s the most popular pairing for either of them in fanon. And I like both of them paired up with other people. (ShikaTema is my other OTP, and KankuIno is my totally non-canon OTP, and ChouIno is my fluff OTP.) And I don’t find any stories with this pairing as well-characterized. Just because Shikamaru says a girl is troublesome doesn’t mean he thinks she’s hot. If he did, he’d be worse than Jiraiya. There’s other stuff that’s totally there with his interaction with Temari that’s totally absent from his interaction with Ino. Yes, they care about each other. But caring =/= LET US GET MARRIED AND HAVE MANY CHILDREN.
I would elaborate but I’m probably boring you all to tears. I should write a huge pairing rant for Naruto sometime. I’m sure I would piss off half the fandom.
(67) LOL STEALS MEME INCONSPICUOUSLY 8D
But first! Kakashi’s Japanese voice is so akdjfnkajbnajdnva♥ I die every time i hear it. Coincidentally, I today found out that Inoue-sensei also voices…WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE. In some creppy adaptation of Romeo and Juliet that involves Neo Verona and flying horses and a tuxedo mask like Juliet but omfg they call him Willy. ilusm Japan. XD
I could write you a huge essay on why I dislike Sakura as a character (it actually has a lot to do with Kishi’s “LOL LETS REMAKING THE SANIN W/TEAM 7 WHO WILL SUSPECT IT thing) but that would make everyone v. sad so suffice to say that I don’t like her because her hair is pointy.
rofl Gaara. angst angst. AND UMMMM KANKURO X ANYTHING= WHHOOAAAAA he got rly hot suddenly what is this
And now meeee
1. The first character I fell in love with: lulz I actually kept reading the series just because I though Kakashi was awesome…I am a sad little person…
2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: MY LOVE FOR YONDAIME DEFIES SPACE, TIME, AND LOGIC. Oh Yondy.
3. The character everyone else loves that I don’t: Karin. She’s so annoying. Hot pants are not a good look.
4. The character I love that everyone else hates: Sai. Everyone hates Sai. But the truth is, it takes a strong man to wear a midriff top.
5. The character I used to love but don’t any longer: Sigh. I don’t know where i am with Suigetsu. The most recent chapter makes me think ugghhh second Zabuza stop doing this to me Kishi, but then he’ll be awesome and have a head made of water so I don’t know.
6. The character I’d want to be like: I wish I was made of whatever Gai is made of, because clearly he is a superior being.
7. The character I’d slap: I think I should slap Tobi around for Deidara.
8. A pairing that I love: I once read a crack HidanxKakuzu fic, and that was probably the best ten minutes of my life…but in reality I don’t actually read much Naruto fanfiction anymore, besides what I write. GenmaxShizune is rly cute though aljnakgd.
9. A pairing that I despise: Hyuugacest. Honestly. And KakSaku. Shudder.
Chapter 353 makes me so happy akjnvkjangdkjanvkajnfk Itachi.
I SAW NOTHING
I keep meaning to watch Romeo x Juliet because several people have plugged it to me now and I am a curious bunny. BUT IF INOUE IS IN IT THEN I THINK IT IS REQUIRED.
ILU KANKUROU. If he ever had any interesting interaction with any character, I would totally write that pairing. Lyje OMG. Actually, mostly if it’s with Ino because as I’ve already mentioned KankuIno is made of win.
Everybody loves Karin? Srsly? I thought the fangirls hated her because “omg shez steelzing sasugay frum sakrua/naurto/hinta/MARI SUE nuuuuu” or something.
I love Sai. He makes a hot uke. (LOL AT CHAPTER 347.) I’m also waiting for a big climactic Sai/Deidara fight even though it will probably end with Deidara dying. ;_;
Gai is an AWESOME-INIUM based life form. IT IS WRITTEN.
I used to hate Hyuugacest, but then I read Rosemary for Remembrance (forget who it’s by, but it’s in both the Pit and on LJ) and I now grudgingly accept it, at least in that story, even if I’m not fond of the pairing.
It’s the same thing with Sesshoumaru x Kagome in Inuyasha fandom. I mostly loathe the pairing, but Tales from the House of the Moon is like, the most famous/arguably best Inuyasha fanfic ever. And it is amazing, even if the pairing makes me want to go kill little puppies.
On a vaguely related note, I actually like Uchihacest. Actually, I don’t like it, but I think it makes sense in a very twisted and inappropriate way. This is sort of based on the normal “Sasuke has based his entire life around Itachi, so naturally they have to go and -censored censored censored-” Rrg. I read an Uchihacest manifesto somewhere on the internet that explained it better than I am able to.
Fugaku/Mikoto was probably the original Uchihacest. Then they passed on the recessive genetic diseases of Angst and General Mental Instability. And it was all downhill from there.
KakaSaku. My reaction to this is always WHY GOD WHY. For me, Kakashi can’t be shipped with anyone still alive because it doesn’t make sense with his character. “Everyone I care about is dead”=/= “Let me go and get married to my youthful student/Anko/Gai/Iruka.”
I discovered this otherwise excellent Pit C2, but its manager is a KakaSaku fangirl and I have to go sifting. She also has no yaoi. I’m not like a yaoi fangirl or anything, but Akatsukicest is hot.
And again with the random pairing tangents, another one that really bothers me is Akatsuki shipped with people outside of Akatsuki. Particularly Sakura. The other day I stumbled upon this excellent story that I thought was going to be SasoDei and ended up as DeiSaku and poor Penty was SCARRED FOR LIFE.
I am seriously going to shut up now because god I could go on about this stuff forever. askljfkd I have no life.
DEISAKU.
IS THERE NO GOD GAI.
Lolz what is that about? And Eventual Sai/Deidara Fight sounds deliciousssssssss unless it involves dying but even so mwahahaha.
There are definitely fics that make a pairing if not “good”, then tolerable, I think. It really depends on how the author handles the characters and whatever obstacles might come up between them. I mean even the popular pairings can still be messed up (the number of bad SasuNaru fics defies logic) so it’s all up to the author.
And as for Uchihacest, I agree with that, it’s something that could in theory be very easily blurred. And in a way that in my mind is poetic almost because he hates him so much but that wasn’t always how things were. Not saying that automatically= omg hawtttt actionz but still, it’d be very easy to write something with an undercurrent of Uchihacest and have it be believable.
She does always end up paired with Akatsuki, doesn’t she? I think it’s because so many people write her the same, as the kunoichi who’s hard on the outside because of her ~~bitter experiences with Sasuke~~ but she’s a real WUMMUN on the inside and ughh dies dies. No one ever points out the obsessive nature she has ,because it’s an ugly trait. I still can’t get over how when Naruto comes back after almost three years the first thing she asks him is if she looks hot. What.
KAKASHIXGAI IS SO WRONG, IT’S RIGHT. I personally can’t stand him paired with Iruka because Iruka always ends up being the weeping uke.
Chapter 347 = hearty chuckles on my part.
EVERYONE SHOULD JOIN IN ON THE HARDCORE NARUTO CONVERSATION. DOES SO, MORTALS!!1
53- please go get a life.
58- it’s not exactly amazing. it’s about five pages long and each page is the size of half a page. they’re actualy prety bad. but i love them none the less.
59- yup its cool. i hear the movie changed it too much though.
67- you were forced to read FAKE? that’s the one about gay police officers right? i flipped through one and it didn’t look too bad except for some graphic scenes. speaking of gay manga. gravitation is realy good. i suggest that you watch the anime though. the manga is relatively graphic especialy in volume two. i have seen and heard enough of two men having sex to last a lifetime. at least in the anime none of it is on screen. they totaly cut that part out. but the storyline in the manga is better. if anyone gets the wrong idea: no, i am not a perv/sexcrazed child, and there is nothing wrong with gay people. it doesn’t matter if it’s a man and a man or a man and a woman. love is love.
wow. that was long. bryan lee o’malley is my life. go to hiswebsite and check out his stuff at radiomaru.com
sorry wrong name but watev post 71 is me.
(71) Ah, I personally could never get into either series. Stylistically FAKE is not appealing to me, and I have a low opinion of Gravitation if just because it seems contrived, though I really have no basis to say so. I’ve read very little real shonen-ai mostly it’s in fanfiction and such for me. Th only exception is the mahwa “Let Dai” by Sooyeon Won. I can’t decide if I like it or not, but I can’t stop reading it, so.
To me, yaoi and shonen-ai are genres that in manga can so easily be either good or all too generic. The good ones are truly worthwhile, though.
kagy is working on a new comic! the intense battle of the Kathleen Gs Part three but i need a creative title. so far i’ve done.
the intense battle of the kathleen Gs
a battle in which mad skills are displayed
and now i’m working on………well, the third in the series.
some day i will get a scanner and scan my work onto the computer and make a website. someday as in in the next forty years.
Shaman King!
75- how far have you read? i’ve read vol1,2,4
i am reading shonen jump, and i enjoy them all. i like hoshin engi, shaman king, and naruto.
76- 1-4 C++darkmage reccomended it.
Urg. I can’t get the right shaman king episode on youtube. And besides, the storyline is different.
Sorry, I cant stand anime
Tintin rocks though
foo- i lke bleach ’tis a good comic(some might argue otherwise-some of the content is…questionable)
80- Shaddap.
i just put fullmetal alchemist on the netflix list. i started to read the manga online, but my eyes started hurting. agagabagabag might like it.the main character is an atheist.
arianhrod
wtf is wrong with my comment??? it only has the first word!!
ok, this is what the comment that only has the first word was supposed to say:
arianhrod
hold on . . . let me try something
arianhrod loves InuYasha and makes up really bad InuYasha fanfics which she never writes down
i just read the Wiki for Case Closed and i have decided that Grant nO.Ob’s favorite manga would be pwn’d if it ever came up against Dragon Ball Z. even GT is better than Case Closed, for Shenlong’s sake!
once again…
DBZ IS T3H PWN4GE!!!!
89- and that is what is mostly wrong with him. *walks over and makes sure Supersaiyajin’s eyes dont glaze over when “DBZ” is mentioned.*
buuut… i guess we all have thing like that. i’m sure muse blogging is one of them for most of you. i like dungeons and dragons and dungeons and dragons and dungeons and…ect it would be cool if there were a D&D manga… but, there is no set story line, at least when i play, (unless i choose to make one) so it would be pretty pointless… would be cool fight scenes, though.
81- tintin is the bane of my existence!
any one interested in post 74?? well i’m done the third one(of kathleen’s and clones) which was eight pages and now i’m working on a twelve pager! exiting but does anyone care? NOOOOOOOOOO!
i would care, but i have never read you manga.get a scanner.
I just started reading Fruits Basket.
I would start screaming “yay”, but I will save you the ear-splitting-ness.
Yes, I’m VERY very happy now. I’ve only read the first volume, though, so if you’d read it, no spoilers please.
Eee. I love Fruits Basket now. xD
Wow, this thread was dead for a while…
I just started reading Shonen Jump. Out of it, the only ones I really like are Naruto, Hikaru no Go, and the 2 kinds of Yugioh.
92- i; setting up a website at the end of the summer with a friend who has a scanner….. and she screamed to the scanner gods WHY DOES MINE NOT WORK?????????? fully knowing the answer
94- ya i know it took me half an hour to
92- i; setting up a website at the end of the summer with a friend who has a scanner….. and she screamed to the scanner gods WHY DOES MINE NOT WORK?????????? fully knowing the answer
94- ya i know it took me half an hour to find it
guess whos going to the toronto comics artists festival? ME ME ME ME ME! unfortunately none of my comic friends can come….. goes and cries in corner
oh come ON! why am i the only one posting here??????????
I pronounce Inuyasha officially ruling in both the anime and manga catorigories. Lord Sesshomaru is way fr00dy.
Except that reading the English write-overs of the actual Japanese manga is weird, because I am not at all used to reading from right to left. I must say the Dragonball and Dragonball Z are all about mindless violence with no actual plot. That’s my opinion.
hello piggy. thank you for posting. i was starting to feel rather lonely.
hmm…. i wish people would post here…. W00T! GOING TO THE TCOMICS ARTISTS FESIVAL THIS WEEKEND!!!!!!!!!!!
99 — InuYasha!!!!!
i watch naruto a lot, and i’ve never really gotten all the Japanese titles. like, why does Sakura address Sasuke as “Sasuke-kun”? will someone please explain this to me?
100 – *head explodes from the n00biness of it all*
WILL NO ONE ANSWER ME?!?!?!?!?
See the Wikipedia article on Japanese titles:
http:// en. wikipedia. org /wiki/Japanese_titles
ah. thanks.
Robert-kun!
Does anyone else read Megatokyo? or Penny and Aggie?
I like Nadesico and Pita-Ten.
104- -kun is what you add after a boys name
-chan is after a girls
-san is mr/mrs/ms/miss
-sempai (spelling?) is for people at your school who are olderthan you
-kohai is the same but for people younger than you
-sensei is teacher
and i can’t remeber anything else. but baka means stupid heh heh heh. i love that word.
DBZ ain’t so great.
47- No…
I posted this elswhere but I finished my comics series. yay. feel joy for me. yay.
I just read a perfect day for love letters by george asakura. it was good.
yay for Scott Pilgrim.
if people don’t start posting here i will scream in rage.
114- Heh. Asakura means leaf. It’s the last name of shaman king’s main character.
111 – ohhhhhh…Robert-san, then.
aw man, why did you guys post i wanted to make a really long post going EEEEEEYYYYAAAAAGGGGGGHHHHHH for 20 pages.
115- your right!
166- yeah, youre welcome. are you new? *pies anyway*
I adored Sandman: A Game of You which I finished recently. yup.
117 – must i explain this to everyone? *sigh*
maybe i could get the GAPAs to do some sort of notice for people who don’t know who i am…*shrugs* #1/\/7-#1/\/7
(119, 120) OR *Radical Idea* you could choose a name and stick with it. Presto! No more explaining to do.
You could always vary part of the name but leave enough for identification as some others have done.
119- DON”T be ANGRY with me. do what i do. I keep the Kagcomix and ad other stuff.
117- Yeah, I know. I can speak the smallest bit of Japanese
I have only one thing to say: all I need to know about Dragon Ball Z, I saw on Robot Chicken.
Pfft! Hahahaha! Like you’ll learn anything from that!
*sigh* but there’s no fun in that. well, okay, i guess i’ll stick with this unless something absolutely irrasistably flamablamablous comes up. yay!
124 – Grant, you n00b, i don’t think you’re in a position to debate about manga if you’re watching something called “Robot Chicken”.
But it’s such a funny show!
You’re still in no position to be calling me a n00b. Doubly so if you don’t know what Robot Chicken is.
Keh*. Robot chicken is Hi-larious**.
Shaman KIng 13 is out.
*Tokagero, Shaman King
**Mr Burns, The Simpsons
n00b.
mwahahahahaha.
Oh, l’m a n00b, am l?
Sorry, that was me.
i hope evry one here checked out my drawings.
Naruto = T3H 0WN4GE!!!!!!!!!!!
actually, not anymore. i have changed from a blasphemer (Naruto) to a massive fan of…TENGEN TOPPA GURREN LAGANN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yessss…….
GAPAs’ when can we have a new thread for this? if we had a new thread mabe more people would visit and i wouldn’t feel all alone.
POST HERE PLEASE!!!!!! THE THREAD IS DYING!*********************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************
that aught to do it for the recent coments rhing
I posted a bit ago (post 118) and no one responded. I am saddened.
manga. sigh. people still like this?
Go away!
I got shaman king 13!!!!!!!!
141- what’s wrong with you???? I don’t just read manga! honestly children these days, I read everything. especialy canadian autors when I can find them. Ever heard of Scott Pilgrim? no? go read it! ever heard of Thieves and Kings? no? it is a sin not to read that!
142- is it good? I’m not that far into the series but I like it. Shaman king and Life of Ueki are very similar.
143- nothing wrong with me! I don’t think that you do not read good lit ( witch canadian lit has a 1/1 change of being). I just find manga to be stupid.
144- (the square of twelve) have you read what i told you to read yet? no? *anoyed sigh* thanks about the canadian lit though.
I’m in the anime club at school. he he excuse my loserness.
There’s an anime club at my school… their slogan is “If you want ot be a loser with no life…join our club!”
Seriously.
146- thats funny! I enjoy watching movies durring lunch so it’s good for me. besides some anime is HILARIOSE!
146- Funny!
146- Funny!
144- WOOP WOOP WOOP!!!!!!!!! Generalizations detected!
141 – i have one thing to say to you. “(snip!!!!)”
150- gah! swearing and rudeness on the blog???? this we can’t have! *pies* lol. i hope you know i’m joking.
Someone at my school started an anime club last year, but the total-jerks-yet-somehow-popular kids were really rude to her. They’d tear down her signs and stuff. So I don’t think they have it this year. It’s a shame, because i’d definitely join if they had it.
152- awww… what mean bums…..
we should totaly get a new thread….
Has anyone read Case Closed? I’m too lazy to scroll through all 153 comments…….
99 (Piggy)- I like most of the characters except Inuyasha is a boring jerk and Kagome is a boring useless…person but the anime is too short and the manga is too long. Hm.
Anybody here??? (This is definitely a pointless post, but I’m hoping the thread’ll get some attention from the Recent Comments list. Feel free to zap this, GAPAs)
156-I’d post with something interesting but I don’t really read/whatever this, and barely understand it. Hopefully this post will get some attention, but yours did for me! And I can’t believe you’re hopeless…
Red-tailed HAWK
157- Yeah, I forgot to change my name. I was only planning to use the name for a post or two on the R&R thread. I’m back to just plain old Andrew, now.
yeah no one comes here any more.
Who likes elfquest?
ANYBODY WHO SEES THIS PLEASE POST!!!!
That was in case anybody ever checks this thread, but just doesn’t post often. Or, if someone sees this on the recent comments thread.
The only anime i watch is Bleach which is awesome. For some reason I can’t stand it in English and I have to track down the subtitled versions. I’m weird that way. Someone recomended the “Death Note” Manga to me. Is it any good?
162- Have you heard Happy People yet? (One of the ending songs…)
163-I’m not sure. What episodes does it play on?
Dunno. Search “Bleach Happy People” on YouTube.
there are so many mangas that are similar to bleach. manga has stopped being original.
oh! i jsut remebered. i’m almost finnished my short comic that ridicules anime! i did it because i wanted to draw pikachu eating epople and because i hate digimon. so the digimon kids are running away from that digimon (think first episode) and they come to the cliff and the clif breaks and they fall not into a sea but onto hard ground and die. then th Papillion Mask guy from Buso Renkin comes and turns them into homunculi and they go insearch of the alchemist wariors. unfortunately they stumble upon seto kaiba and yugi (yu-ghi-oh). the homunculi eat yugi and kaiba and then are fried by pikachu’s super deathly thunder attack. ash checks off assasinate those stupid digimon kids on his to do list but Josephine (the intense battle of the Kathleen G’s) slices his head off and Kathleen congradulates her. Tai (digimon) wakes up and realizes it was all a dream and is knifed in the back by pikachu. THE END
166-In today’s world its almost impossible to be original. I don’t really care if it isn’t because its the only anime/manga i watch/read
please tell me if you think post 167 sounds funny. at all. anyone?
169-Somewhere between lol funny and actually laughing out loud funny. I feel it would be funnier if i knew any of those names besides pikachu.
There was an article in Wired magazine about Manga recently. Did anyone read it?
170- oh good. about the funny. because i want to show it to these people but i’d hate to if the idea was crappy (idon’t kow them too well)
169- Wow. Okay, definitely agree about Digimon being a waste of space, and Pikachu knifing the kid with the weird hair? A very nice touch. All in all, an excellent story. I say show it to the people. But use your judgement. What sort of people are they? If they actually like Digimon, would it really PO them? But it really is funny.
167- l hate yu-gi-oh, pokemon, and digimon, but my favorite mangas have perfectly good animes.
172- the people i showed it to looked at me strangely and didn’t say anything *sniff* i wish i still had my manga obsessed friend with me! but thnx!
174- I’m sorry, Kagy*! They just don’t understand good art (which I am absolutely sure it is). *sends angry pies to art-haters*
*May I call you that?
175- ofcourse you may call me Kagy! and thanks. you are so nice!
Poor Kagz. At least you found a new friend in Andrew.
Weird. I just found this thread. Weirrrddd…
177- yeah. me is so glad for museblog! it lets me be myself without being juged. and btw: i like Kagz! tis humourosity, funy i have never heard it before!
Interesting. l’ve just always thought of you as Kagz, but that was the first time l posted with it. lt’s my mental nickname for you.
i have a mental knickname for lots of musers. you are Ag, GOTES is Gwen, MissSwann2233 or however you spell her name is MissySwann because I can’t keep track of her name. widdershins i still think of as e~a, uh…..lesse…..SuperSaiyajin42 is Sajin (pronounced say- gin[ as in the drink]). I totaly thought of you as agabaga for many months.
I do too. Kagy, Agabag, Miss Swan, Hawk (RtH), I still call “Raven of the Hawk” “Traggle”, oxlin widdershins is just Widdershins, FrigidSymphony is FS, etc…
182- i call her mentaly raven of tragle rock
Edd
From Ed Edd n Eddy.
Don’t kill me.
Please don’t reply to this here, peoples!
184- Ed, edd, and eddy? On museblog? Good FSM!
Oh my god. l just read what that was about. My god. My nonexistent (l’m an atheist) god.
Agagabagabag, cappy said not to respond. That’s a major hint not to respond. Jeez.
Oh. Sorry.
188- shame on you Ag! *shakes head*
So i got scott pilgrim 4 on wednesday and i must say that the art was cleaner but it didn’t have the same random vibe the other three had. it was a bit too manga what with the colour pages at the front.
Cool! Scott’s a cheese lover! Awesome! l wanna read it!
190- uh…. what? i don’t understand….
In a little exerpt l saw, he wants to spend $40 he got from playing in his band on cheese. Google images, scott pilgrim.
192- i should check it out…. anyways scottpilgrim dot com (i think) is the books website there are previews go check it out. now. go. NOW.
l already did. lt looks awesome.
194- it is awesome. i can’t wait till you read it! *squeel of delight* because i’ll finaly have some one to obsess with!
l may ask for it for christmas. How apropriate is it?
196- rather apropriate. they don’t swear much. except for “female dog”. (yeah me does not want my post zapped). there’s only one sexy scene in vol. one and it’s only kissing. but yeah it’s quite apropriate. if you have any questions just ask. bryan lee o’malley (the author) is signing in chapelhill NC on december first. i sooo wish i lived near there so i could go….. *longing*
Read what?
I live in NC.
I just read the first volume of Bleach and the second volume of FullMetal Alchemist. They’re gooood.
198- Scott Pilgrim by Bryan Lee O’Malley.
lalalalalalalalalalala DEAD THREAD DEAD THREAD!!!!!! URG! anyways could people pleeeeeaaaasssseeee poset here. i really don’t see the point of putting it on the list of things people still want to see if the people who request it *coughDoJcough* don’t post. well, anyways i guess i’ll post. i think i’m getting Zombies Calling for Xmas as i am forcing my brother to go buy it and get it signed at the beguiling (best store in the world…. if you’re ever in toronto) so yeah. i really hope i get it signed because then i can gloat and show it off to people who don’t own signed copies. ofcourse i wish i was going myself but that’s quite alright. i will survive i suppose.

Tintin is great. Herge was certainly on top of his game.
My friend got volumes nineteen to twenty-two of Naruto for Christmas, and I got to read them. *is happy* Sakura seems to have regressed. I think Sasuke is a bad influence on her. I’ve heard she gets cool later, though.
I reccomend The Arrival by Shaun Tan. It brings a whole new meaning to the word graphic novel, as well as having beautiful artwork.
The original Astro Boy is still amazing to read.
212- osamu tezuka is a master.
213- You can say that again.
214- osamu tezuka is a mast- oh wait- you didn’t mean that litteraly did you!
Omg people at least try to bring the thread back it’s the only one like it.
ok so manga rules i think i have maybe 100 mangas in my library =P
silly me i am obsessed thank you very much

save this thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
216- i haven’t actualy read drama con (some day i will, some day i will) but the author is Canadian.
The only manga I’ve ever read is Death Note, which is pretty good. Can anyone recommend anything else?
I have a friend that just started to read Death Note. I wanna read it…
Um. I reccomend FullMetal Alchemist HIGHLY and also Naruto is very good. Bleach is cool.
If you read shojo I looove Kamichama Karin and President Dad is very funny.
The most recent manga I have read are Backstage Prince (which I like a lot) and Mugen Spiral (which I also like).
I looked at FMA and it does look good. I used to watch bleach but I got bored because the plot wasn’t going anywhere. Thanks for the recommendations!
Mmm Bleach, never a fan of it but I suppose it has it’s merits. Mostly I’m on one epic unending shonen series at a time and that’s all. Naruto, I don’t read the Viz translations as I’ve said (thouh kudos for them for getting us up to speed with their massive release schedule). I’ve been missing the more recent chapters but it’s fallen into a kind of pattern. Apparently more is happening this year but who knows.
Death Note is good. After volume seven I kind of lost interest though. The ending is good.
Recommended…Is DOGS licensed by anyone? I downloaded the series but I never read much of it, a lot of people seem to like it though. +__+; I highly recommend NANA to those who don’t like the typical shojo story, and even those who do. Ai Yazawa is amazing.
Hmm Mars is good too..I’ve heard good things about Mushishi as well. And I’m part of the small small American fanbase for Kaze Hikaru it seems. It’s published so slowly though, I gave in and bought the most recent volume in Japanese with limited translating ability. f you like historical fiction type stories you might like it (it’s some what in the same time frame as Rurouni Kenshin and Peacemaker Kurogane, especially the latter though I didn’t enjoy PMK that much.)
well that was longer than intended. -_-
Death Note is good, even though I haven’t read much of it. I also like Hikaru no Go and especially Whistle. Has anybody read these?
I’ve read Hikaru No Go and Whistle, but I don’t like them very much. I’m not a big fan of sports and I didn’t see much of a plot, but eh..
I read the first volume of Full Metal Alchemist, after my friends convinced me to. It was really good.
224 – Of course it’s good. It’s AMAZING!
225 – You know, that’s about the same reaction my friends had when I told them I’d read it. I gotta go get the next volumes, now…
My friend reccomended Fushigi Yugi to me. Anyone read it?
It’s rated older teen, though, so I’m not sure if I can read it… *is 13*
227) Fushigi Yugi is an excellent series, but it does certainly have some mature themes throughout…I’m not sure what you’re comfortable with and what you aren’t so I can’t really say. You should know after a few volumes I guess.
I’m waiting for more volumes of Honey and Clover at the moment.
228 – Clover! I want to read that. I’ve never seen it in stores however.
I’m a Clamp fan… Tsubasa is my favorite..
I started reading FLCL.
*obsession*
I looooove it.
Fushigi Yugi is a wonderful book and if your not comfortable with some things close your eyes…. but I started when I was 12 and the librarian didn’t blink a eye and its artful….
no one really cares if you read books rated older teen. I started reading blue monday in grade 7 and it has swearing, some partial nudity and stuff my parents wouldn’t aprouve of but watever. it’s reeeeeaaaly good.
227 (Kari) Ahh FY I remember those days~ Coincidentally, I was about thirteen when I first read it. I think it really depends on your maturity level–there’s a fair bit of blood and innuendo, but nothing really serious. I don’t think it’s particularly objectionable, but then again, that’s up to you to decide. I’d say read it;it is indeed good. Just don’t watch the anime before you read the manga, as it’s an example of classic 90’s anime GONE WRONG.
I have been getting into Bleach of late, as I am rather drawn to fantastically long drawn-out shounen series (see: Naruto, Inuyasha) and it is quite good. (I will be fantarded about it if there is someone for me to fantard with, so post away. )There are also loads of wonderfully nice fic for it, if you’re into that sort of thing.
Mm, my take on current Naruto canon is that it should be good but isn’t. Also not good is everybody’s obsession with coming up with rather idiotic theories about ITACHI AND HIS MAGIC SPESHULNESS.
Series I really need to catch up on/finish one of these days: Nana, Furuba, Ouran, Inuyasha ;-.-
229) I actually just bought the first volume of it today at Borders! I think once it ends it’s run in Shojo Beat they’ll put out th volumes faster, as is usually the case.
233) I really wish I liked Bleach, there is no end to the merchandise and cosplayers around, and I was reading a bit about it in Anime Insider today. I like the cover art, maybe I’ll read some next time I go to Borders.
AND UM did you read chapter 239 of naruto if so can we talk about that a lot afjkgsdhgdhkgjb There’s this two page spread that made me want to BAWWWWWWWWL for the first time ever concerning that manga, it normally elicits so little of an emotional response for the most part that I was quite surprised. CONFUSED, even.
Nana is a manga I could write a college thesis on, it makes me want to rip out my hair. And yet I just bought volume nine, despite having read the most recent chapter online a few weeks ago. Ai Yazawa always succeeds with shojo though, if you even want to call it that. One of my favorite mangaka.
234 (Axa)- YES YES READ ITTTTTT There are some really nice spreads, and the character design is great–if Kubo started a fashion line I’d wear it.
AHH IS THAT FROM KAKASHI GAIDEN? Favorite bit of the manga, definitely. I think that Kishimoto ought to do more shorts, since he’s quite good at character creation but rubbish at development, imho. I think I know the spread you’re talking about–is it color or no?
-floats off to reread gaiden-
228- Oh, I was confused. I thought you meant 1 manga named Honey and a different manga named Clover.
Today I saw the second episode of the anime of Death Note.
FREAKING AWESOME.
I must persuade my mom to let me read OT-rated manga… Or some at least…
235) oh crap I think I meant 339 now that I think of it…well it’s one of the more recent chapters. I can’t keep track of things lolol at least I’m not in the Inuyasha fandom what with chapter 5000000 and all
….I forgot though, Kakashi Gaiden made me baaaaaw also so DDDD: I AM A LIAR
well the scene I mean is with itachi, and you’ll know when you see it.
236) Oh haha, I should have guess that, my mistake. I kind of regret not seeing CLAMP when they were at Anime Expo, but it was my first con ever so I was a little disoriented.
The Death Note manga is DEFINITELY worth reading. Most manga don’t take me very long to read, but I spent over two hours reading a volume of Death Note. what a nightmare translating that must be!
The site I get my Kaze Hikaru raws (i.e. untranslated scans) from hasn’t uploaded any new stuff since they redid the site :c
Hmmm I wonder if anyone else has been to a convention…?
236 (Kari)- I still want to read Death Note but haven’t yet got past the first volume. -adds to MAD LIST OF SERIES THAT I MUST FINISH EVENTUALLY- The fandom sort of scares me though. D:
I also want to read more CLAMP because some of their stuff (e.g. Clover) is just so pretty.
237 (Axa)- I probably have seen it but forgot. I have been reading most of the current arc at WARP SPEED because it’s actually rly boring, even with all the fun cracked-out Uchiha fan theories floating around. I want Orochimaru back. ;_;
Oh Inuyasha. I gave up on that series after Kikyou died. I will probably just read the spoilers after the whole affair finally finishes ten years from now. Takahashi better do something short after this. fr srs.
Never been to a con, but it’s only because there’s nothing good in the Midwest. And my parents wouldn’t drive me, most likely.
Someday Penty, we will go to a con together somehow and all will be right in the world. Go to college in California y/n
Fruits Basket is now absolutely one of my favorite manga.
Up to volume..twelve now, I think. But tomorrow is a Thursday, so that means I will probably go to the bookstore…and get manga…and books…
And now seventeen. xD Speeding through…
It’s a wonder Eitheal hasn’t come here yet…
And now nineteen. Twenty coming out on July 1… Ahh…
The next Kingdom Hearts graphic novel FI-NALLY came out. I haven’t read it yet.
I reread Bleach recently, the first…what, seven volumes? Because the movie is going to be playing in theaters for two nights next week! I want to go! Wednesday and Thursday.
I am also reading xxxHolic. Very good. So far, all volumes have creeped me out in some way. (Read the first three..)
243) Hav you read any of CLAMP’s other stuff? cause both xxxHolic and Tsubasa Resevoir Chronicle are interlinked with each other and most of their other stories. I liked what I read of it but it wasn’t really my thing, I guess.
244 – Yes, let’s see..I’ve read (some of) xxxHolic, Tsubasa, Cardcaptor Sakura and it’s sequel series, Magic Knight Rayearth, and Angelic Layer.
i’d say that death note definitely has a place here. v. v. intelligent, interesting, thought-provoking.
Archie comics Sabrina manga ROCKS!!!!!
Guess who’s totaly going to the Paradise Toronto Comicon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That’s right! I am!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! well, probably. If I don’t have other plans. It looks pretty good.
I don’t know if anyone reads Scott Pilgrim but they are making it into a movie! that is totaly exciting.
why I do believe this thread is working it’s way towards death!
I’ve only seen 3 minutes of Avatar Book 3: Fire, Chapter 17: the ember island players and I already hate it.
Yep, the ember island players is the worst episode in the history of the show. The only good part is that Aang kissed Katara (by accident, right after she said they were in the middle of the war and it wasn’t the right time).
I have now seen…the 2nd through 11th episodes of Death Note!
It is so awesome.
Anyone here read anything by Jhonen Vasquez?
I want to. Really badly. But I don’t think I can. xD For now I will be content watching Invader Zim on DVD.
O why does no one post here?
Read Serenity Rose by Aaron Alexovich.
The end.
My favorite manga right now is Whistle!. And no, I don’t just like it because it’s soccer, although I wouldn’t like it nearly as much if it was basketball or something.
I identify with Sho so much, though. We’re both really small for our ages (even though I’m still taller – HA!) and we even play soccer much the same way.
-wonders if any other MBers have read this manga-
Probably not.
254 – I have! But I didn’t really like it. And I don’t have it anymore. I don’t really like sports manga.
But it wasn’t bad. :/
254- Whistle is okay. if you like basketball read ‘rebound’. it’s funny. I’ve read up to volume 15.
I don’t really read manga anymore. i don’t have the patience for it. which is odd because that was my reason to stop reading novels. my brain confuses me often….
255 – It’s really the only sports manga I read. Actually, it’s really the only manga I read, because I’m too lazy to find volume 1 of FMA or any of the other mangas my brother wants me to read.
I got the new volume of Fruits Basket today and, looking at the fanart page, became inspired to draw a picture for it. I’ve pretty much finished it…it took me a while with careful pen strokes…and I’m pretty proud of it. But I smudged it. But, when I scan it into the computer, the smudge is harder to see. And, they said to send in a copy, which is probably what I will do. So. We’ll see what happens. Next volume in March.
I went to a nice comic book store yesterday – called Heroes Aren’t Hard To Find, I think? Something like that. It was pretty big. I got the Haunted Mansion comic collection I heard about…very happy..as well as the next two volumes of xxxHolic.
I sure am writing a lot, aren’t I?
I thought there used to be a thread about this. Why was it abandoned? Anyway, I decided to start reading Inuyasha again. I’m starting from the beginning. I remembered it when I found a new manga that Rumiko Takahashi just started about two months ago. It’s called, in America, Rin-ne. You can actually read it online for free off of the official site. New chapters come out Wednesdays, I believe.
Whee, dead thread.
I have become addicted to manga… especially Sailor Moon. And stupid OneManga only has up to chapter 12… I think it’s messed up…
Manga can do that.
I like InuYasha, Ranma 1/2, Fruits Basket, La Corda D’Oro, Nodame Cantabile, and Chibi Vampire. (all are manga series’)
I <3 Fruits Basket!
Grr. Apparently anime vs. manga is exactly the same as movie vs. book. They always mess stuff up… I mean, come on, Tuxedo Mask NEVER throws stupid roses in Sailor Moon manga, but he does in the anime. And the English version of the anime makes him sound really stupid… watch the first episode on YouTube and you’ll know what I mean.
Mangas I’ve read/am reading:
*****Death Note (wooow, amaazing, I got this adorable chibi Light keychain a few days ago)
*****Fruits Basket (actually, if you look online, it’s already finished translating from others. I’ve finished it)
****Wish (I like Ruri and Hari)
***Platinum Garden (Nanase is a more likable version of Ayame)
*****Translucent (my library only has 1 2 3. )
THe Furuba anime was sooo whacked. Momiji’s voice- all the voices, really- are MESSED UP. What happened at the ending was totally off the plot. Hellooo, what happened to [ending]?!
I’m not even going to bother with that anime…. I love Fruits Basket but since I’ve seen some of the Sailor Moon anime, I’ve figured that most anime just totally ruins the manga….
Has anybody seen Fate/Stay Night? I loved it so much that I watched all 24(maybe 26?) episodes in two days…
264- I LOVE Death Note. I haven’t gotten to finishing it yet, but I am on Volume 9. It’s the only manga that takes me a long time to read. I have to process Light’s plan… It’s really complicated, and it keeps you thinking. That’s what I love about it!
*****SPOILERS AND WORDS THAT MAY INFER ENDINGS!!!******
Death Note, my current obsession…
Unfortunately, two of my friends (Narutards, as they call themselves) have finished it and are talking about the ending right in front of me.
SO SAAAD!!! *weepweepweep*
Like, no one died in Furuba. I was totally yelling at Akito when she hit Momiji and I was sooo angry soince Momiji is my favorite character, closely followed by Haru. All the other characters (except Machi, Yuki, and Kyo) irritate me. Tohru a bit of a moron.
When I look back on Furuba, the drawing style annoys me. Guh.
My library doesn’t seem to have the rest of Platinum Garden, Translucent, and Witch Class. I must persuade my parents to let me go to a comic shop nearby… *siigh*
SFTDP…
AAAUUUGGGGHHHH!!!!!!
I heard they’re making a Death note movie. Live action. *twitchtwitch*
The worst part is who’s playing Light.
ZAC EFRON. Yeah, that Zac Efron. *whimper*
*whimperwhimperwhimper*
Disney is killing MANGA, too????
They already have a Japanese one… and two…
Where did you get Zac Efron from? Nobody would let him play the part; he wouldn’t know what he was saying! I looked on wikipedia (the encyclopedia of infinite knowledge) and it says that someone does own the rights to make a remake of the movie in English. I think, Warner Bros.
*sees the pterodactyl release Zinc* I just started reading Furuba on Saturday, but I finished volume eight last night. I came across it at a discount bookstore, so I’m lucky to be able to pay five dollars an issue instead of ten–I’ve saved sixty dollars already. I’m glad that it only goes to volume 23, though. Inuyasha, which I am still reading, is ridiculously long.
I’m in the middle of volume four. I’m reading it online, though, and it’s right to left, so that makes it rather hard to read…. I’m not sure how long I’ve been reading it for. Maybe a couple of weeks? Probably less than that.
Reading online is so slow (and confusing). I took the liberty of comparing a few online translations to the official one, and the online ones make much less sense. The books are right-to-left as well; I got used to it pretty quickly. I’m trying hard to limit myself to a volume a day now. But volume nine ended so… cliff-hanger-y? No. Must… resist… reading… volume… ten… until… tomorrow.
You might be able to find Fruits Basket (Furuba) books at your library. Mine had them. The hard part was finding them available to check out in the right order.
Due to my lack of common sense (proved by a somewhat faulty IQ test in fourth grade), I hadn’t even thought of that. To the library! until my female parental unit forgets that I spent sixty dollars on manga in two days; at which point I would like to own them.
I have really been reading too much manga–I feel I can’t express exactly what I want to say without the manga-esque facial expressions, etc.
Have fun at the library. Even if it doesn’t have any Fruits Basket books, you’re sure to find something good.
Does anyone know “The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya?”
Man, I haven’t read mainstream manga in for ages. It’s fun and all, but I find it much too much the same. I went through I pretty thoroughly obsessive XXXholic and Tsubasa phase (I own a lot of the anime). Tsubasa seems to light and insubstantial, when I look back on it. XXXholic is still pretty awesome. I think I have a soft spot for it because it was one of the first mangas I devoured, and definitely the first anime. I still read all the comics I can get my hands one, but I skip over the manga if it looks too generic.
Has anyone read Fables? I’ve read bits and pieces of it. I really enjoy it, probably because that was the sort of comic I wanted to make when I was little. The art is also pretty good.
Scott PIlgrim is another one of my favorites. I prefer the earlier volumes. I found the fifth a bit of a disapointment. What I found so endearing about Bryan Lee O’Malley’s style was that it was put together but still rough. Now it feels to polished. I will always be a fan of him and his work, but it’s his early work that I like best. I am dead excited for the movie that is being made right now, as we speak type.
I also read a large variety of webcomics. (Dr. McNinja, Sam and Fuzzy and xkcd are some examples)
I also write and draw my own comics in my spare time. Right now, I am going through a math phase. I complain incessantly about the process (I hate inking and colouring) but in the end it’s always worth it. Does anyone else draw their own comics?
It seems that a lot of us here read Furuba. Who’s your favorite character? I really like Momiji, but for some reason I also like Shigure. Tohru is…. well, ditzy, but she does have a very likeable character.
By the way, GAPAs, this thread is from ’07… would a new one be helpful, or should we wait until we’ve got more comments?
Wow, Death Note is AMAAAZING. Yay! Matt!
Favorite Fruits Basket characters: Momiji and Haru. They’re just awesome.
Psh, I read Furuba like popcorn.
Actually, I like onemanga for reading online. I got through one voloume of Death Note in one hour, because Death Note is… Death Note. And they’ve already translated the last volume of Fruits Basket!
I joined a graphic novel discussion group at my library. Danielle is in it too. One of the mangas we have to read for today’s ,eeting was Fullmetal Alchemist. It was AMAAZING. Edward’s funny.
I’m using onemanga for Furuba! Although I put volumes 5 and 6 on hold from the library.
I shall try Death Note as soon as I finish this chapter of Furuba. Then I’ll try some other suggestions.
I LOVE Fullmetal Alchemist. I just read #15, the one about Ishbal… The plot is complex, and I like the fact that I have to follow the story.
But again, anybody read The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya? It has a good plot, and it’s absolutely hilarious!
272- Favorite character? I like the Momiji/Tohru combination, but I identify with Yuki a lot.
I like Kyou better than Yuki, but I understand Yuki a lot more now that Akito and Ayame showed up. Rghh, I hate Akito…
*snickersnicker* Just finish the series and look at that comment.
Oh, all right, all right, so I don’t hate Akito anymore. T_T But… *spoilersaheadspoilerspoilerspoiler* Akito x Shigure? Really? How….. weird. I have to admit, though, it does explain a lot.
Awww, poor Momiji. Tohru x Kyo is a good match, but still, so sad…
Do you guys only read manga, or do you also read american, canadian and other works?
I read Persepolis. It was good. And something else… Oh yes. As the World Burns. Manga is one of those things that’s way too popular to excite my interest. Like Hollister.
I keep saying I’m going to read Persepolis and then never do.
I haven’t finished Persepolis yet, but I did enjoy what I read. I read some of the sequel (I know, odd way of doing things) and liked that a lot as well.
Well, Zinc, you’ve got me addicted to Death Note. I wouldn’t normally like that type of storyline, but for some reason it just works here. But Light really annoys me… I mean, come ON, utopia just doesn’t work!
I have to admit, though, I could see why they’d cast Zac Efron… *ducks pies* Not because of his acting! That’s nonexistent! But he does look kind of like Light…
Anyone read the old Casper the Friendly Ghost comics? They are pretty ridiculous. The general story line for the earliest ones is “Casper tries to make friends; no one wants to be his friend; Casper tries to kill himself, but he can’t die because he’s a ghost; As a result of his attempted suicide he makes a friend”. I love the two movies that were made, as well (one with Christina Ricci, and one with Hilary Duff). Hilary Duff as Wendy is the cutest thing ever!
Come back to this thread….
I’m still reading Furuba online. I’m in volume 13, chapter 72. I wish I could get more actual books, but our library system only has up to volume six.
I like:
Azumanga Daioh
Lucky Star
Hoshii No Kabii
Megaman NT Warrior and all of it’s sequels
Urgh. My dad got me two books on drawing manga from the library; I really want to learn, but it’s so complicated! And there are so many materials! I mean, where the heck am I supposed to get screen tone???? And white ink? I can barely even draw a manga style face at the moment….
SFTDP. <<< SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER >>>
Just finished chapter 98…. OH. MY. GOD. Are you SERIOUS??? Akito is a GIRL? That’s just…. creepy. Of course, I immediately got this weird song by Groove Coverage (“God is a Girl….”) stuck in my head. So I turn on Pandora QuickMix to get it out. Guess what plays? Yup.
But how the heck did Kureno break the curse?? Rghh. *goes back to obsessively reading*
*tries to revive thread* SFTTP….
Finished Furuba. That was, I admit, quite a satisfying ending. But *spoilerspoilerspoiler* I thought Tohru falling off a cliff was quite extreme… rather soap opera-ish, even.
I’ve requested all the Death Note volumes I have left to read from the library. Guess which one I’m second on the list for? The one that comes first. Of COURSE.
Ahh, I’m getting the last volume today! I’ve been rereading the ten or so preceding it so that I remember what was happening.
Haaaa, someone posted! Wait, are you talking about Furuba or Death Note? I love them both.
Oh, Furuba. If it were Deathnote I’d just reread all of them–it’s only twelve volumes. I read Deathnote too, but I’ve only got the first three and haven’t had a chance to read more than a couple online yet.
You could probably find them at the library, or on your library website. I just go on the [snip] library site and request books. (Don’t worry, GAPAs, it’s three counties.) I’ve read the first five of Death Note.
***SPOILER DEATHNOTE SPOILER DEATHNOTE SPOILER DEATHNOTE SPOILER***
DeathNote ROX!!! But my mum won’t let me near the mangas untill I’m 14. BUT I have watched the movie. When L dies, he’s eating chocolate!
THAT IS A HUGE SPOILER. IF I AM NOT ON THE 11TH VOLUME RIGHT NOW, I WOULD PROBABLY RIP MY HEAD OFF.
Already read the last volume of Furuba. Online. XD
Same here. I read most manga online.
YES, THAT IS A HUGE SPOILER. Meanie….
I’ll add a spoiler warning.
Thanks.
I have recently become addicted to the Candy Candy anime series. I am on ep. 63 I think.
I just read that VIZ Media has acquired the rights to the Inuyasha anime and will start a new series, Inuyasha: The Final Act which’ll pick up where the last series left off.
WIN.
Really? they’re going to continue Inuyasha? YAAAY!!! *parties all night*
When does it come out? do you know?
My personal favorites are Inuyasha, Full Metal Alchemist, and One Piece.
Is there anyone here who likes One Piece or Loveless(though i think the anime ending was a bit wierd)?
Can anyone tell me what the difference is between manga and graphic novels? *confuzeled* o_0
Manga is a Japanese style of graphic novel.
so graphic novels are american imitations of the japanese style manga?
thanks for the info.
Not exactly, but you’re welcome!
Welcome to MuseBlog!
Hey, welcome to MuseBlog!
Hi! You seem to be new here…why don’t you head on over to the Welcome, Neophytes thread by clicking on the link below. (It’s the thread where newcomers, or neophytes, are welcomed into MuseBlog by being pied and having any of their questions or concerns about the site answered for them.) Welcome and happy blogging!!
https://musefanpage.com/blog/?p=3346
Yes.. Yes… This is what we MBers do… We calmly invite them to welcome neophytes thread where we pie them relentlessly… Heh-heh, I love this blog.
Not necessarily. Japan created book-length sequential art (a technical term for comics) first, but the idea developed in the US independently around the 80s.
Welcome!
287.1- VIZ Media just acquired the rights to the show, so it probably won’t be for a while. I’ll post more about it when the information’s released. By the way, welcome to MuseBlog, Inu-kun. I am Piggy-senpai.
Wait, you speak jap? Cool!
Welcome, Inu-chan!
Does anybody here watch Avatar: The Last Airbender? That is an awesome anime, and I completely freaked when I heard they were making a live-action movie out of it.
i loved that anime! i just think it’s sad that they are doing the movie live action. i think it would be better if they kept it all anime.
290 — Not at all. Something is referred to as manga if it is a Japanese graphic novel. It differentiates between comic strips and story driven plots (you wouldn’t call Garfield a graphic novel would you?)
Welcome, Inu-chan/Wolfgirl!
The New MBer Alert thread granted me my first laugh this morning. Thank you, GAPAs.
Does anyone else like One Piece? I used to watch it, but now I’m in a long pause. Today, when I get home,I’m planning to resume my adventure in Skypeia.
It can still be manga even though it wasn’t made in Japan. That’s like saying pizza isn’t pizza if it isn’t made in Italy. (anyone else read Dramacon?)
*butts in* But manga is still based off the Japanese form of graphic novels. Correct?
Correct.
5 Main Death Note character ratings:
1: L
2: Mello
3: Misa
4: Light
5: Near
I found a song that really corrolates with Mello: Drag, by Placebo.
You like Mello? He drives me nuts. I much prefer Near. And woah, you like LIGHT? Eeeew. He’s horrible. And Misa annoys me.
I will not disagree with your top rating.
Misa is hilarious… Light is insane, and fun to watch. Mello, I personally do not like. I found him very uninteresting. Near would be Number 3 for me. Light would be number 2. Of course, L is everyone’s favorite!
Why did you have to die!?
283- (RoseQuartz) Drawing decent manga is really, really dificult. It takes an incredible amount of practice, plus: profetional manga artists generally have assistants. What I’d say is : take into acount what the books say but don’t be afraid to do your own thing. Don’t go and invest in expensive art materials, just work with what you’ve got around the house. I used to ink with a face painting brush. Please, please, please do your own thing. It’ll be better than anything else because it will be original and coming from you.
Manga is the only style I can draw in without my characters looking horrible, so I’ve decided to stick with it. I’m just using regular pens and pencils to draw with; I’ve created a few characters and a storyline, but haven’t started inking anything.
