Current topic: Publishing
Snow
Recent hostage-taking at Clinton campaign office
Coming soon: [any ideas?]
I think the topic should be : publishing! NaNo and otherwise.
let’s talk about snow!!!! yes there is a
largeexcuse me, small amount ofsnow up here. because of where my city is placed concerning large bodies of water. we learned about it in geography!Could we talk, at least for a little bit, about the hostage situation at a Hilary Clinton campaign office yesterday? Or does that belong on the Hot Topics thread?
if there is a GAPA, please stop eatting breackfast and post #1!
3- I say hot topic.
2- lucky you. it was suposed to snow here…
4- show some manners! the GAPAs’ are alowed to eat brekfast! they can’t always cater to your whims!
Snow? We had a light sprinkle a week or so ago! It didn’t stick at all but it was good…
I don’t see why a hostage-taking needs to be a Hot Topic. If people want to discuss it, this thread is a good place. As it’s likely to have a shorter “shelf life” than the other topics, I think it’s a good one to start with. What think ye, O Musers?
RoTH- Oh yeah, you live in S NH, was that near you?
3/8- could you possibly fill me in on what happened please?
10- Yes. A guy with fake explosives took hostages in a Clinton Campaign office. He eventually let the hostages go, and the police got him. No one was hurt.
10-Yeah. I heard about it, but I didn’t read the article.
We also have snow at my house.
Raven of the Hawk wants to talk about the hostage-taking, so I’ll keep that topic on the notice-board at least until she returns. But I sense that the rest of you want to talk about snow. I think we can handle two topics for a little while, especially as the situation in New Hampshire is over now, and I’m not sure how much more there is to say about it.
Oh, I heard about that…how horrible.
We’ve got clumps of snow in Colorado. But not enough to have a decent snowball fight.
We have a fair amount of snow at my house. But it’s still pretty powdery, not that great for snowmen and the like. I hope that I can go skiing soon.
It is snowing here! it looks great!
It’s not snowing here, but I’m really excited for when it does, because I have a flamablous plan for a HPB/Kokopelli snowman thing. THF made a Kokopelli snowman last year, and I made and HPB. They came out really well, and then everything froze, so the HPB’s ears turned into ice and you could see through them! It was really cool.
I heard about that! Did u know that Hilary flew down to persona;;y thank the S.W.A.T. Team???
18- did you die the snow, or was it just the same shape?
18-We’re supposed to get 3-6 inches of snow tonight. Maybe I’ll try to make a HPB. ^_^ -runs off to go hoard red food coloring-
*cries* WE HAVENT GOTTEN ANY SNOW!!!! Its not that cold, but maybe it will get abnormally cold tonight so that it snows and we have snowdays!!!!
It NEVER snows here. And if it does, it doesn’t stick….:(
TMFA (20): I made a very small snow-HPB which I dyed (by putting red food coloring and water in an old Windex bottle) pink, but it would have taken way too long to do it with the big one.
Lillers (23): Where do you live?
I wish we had snow here. But, alas, not yet.
It snowed earlier. But it didn’t stick here, curse these sea-level towns. It stuck in Washington, oh yes, but here it just MELTED!!!!!
I’m moving back to the country.
I wish it would snow so I didn’t have to go to school. Speaking of whihc, i should probably be studying/making props, instead of just sitting here reading other people’s NaNos and complaining.
Snow? Yes, actually. I went to the Trans-Siberian Orchestra concert in Grand Rapids, and when we walked out, BAM! Instant snowstorm. We got our Christmas tree up this weekend too. Anyways, about the snow…we’ve only got, like, an inch, so it’ll probably melt…T_T
we got *runs outside to measure* ………… about 3 inches of snow overnight!!!!!!!!!!!! yay!
Hello, Nano ate up my life as well as highschool. But now I came home after a weekend in the Mountains and I realize that there is snow on the ground. Unfortunately the Christmas concert my choir was supposed to be participating in got cancled. Sigh, well I heard there is another system moving into my area. However having no school tommorow would not be probable. I still wish though…
I woke up around 10:15 this morning and outside the worldwas blanketed in snow. it was so calming and christmasy at the same time. and it ws white. very white. i wonder how long the snow will stay?
We had an ice storm yesterday. The trees were coated in a layer of ice and they were all sparkly and gorgeous. It was dark out, so they looked white, and with all the Christmas lights and the spray of the lake in the background the effect was quite magical.
Not so magical was the tree branch that fell and blocked our alley due to ice damage.
24- Northern California.
Happy Second Snow of the Year!
There is some snow on the ground now. The grass still sticks through and there is not enough to make anything out of. Nor is it the right kind of snow. There is supposed to be rain and frozen rain/sleet and similar nastiness moving through here tonight so -maybe- a two hour delay.
*is optimistic*
How many West Coast MBers do we have here? I know there’s Alice and I, but who else?
Srry, East Coat. I was in the West Coast over the summer!!! San Francisco area.
I’m West Coast, baby!
It snowed yesterday, but today it has all melted.
36-I’m Martian!
Wait, there wouldn’t be much snow there… Phooey.
Can we have a whole thread for snow? Everyone here seems so addicted (fine one I am to complain, mind you, I love snow the most of all!
)
We could all mope about there being no snow in June, and post excitedly in January when snow covers all in a three-foot-thick blanket.
Red-tailed HAWK

guess what? the snow i described earlier is actualy Canada’s big first snowstorm. or summat simmilar. anyways that’s what the news guy said! so my neighbourhood is preety hard to navigate in a car with the huuuuge heaps of snow. mabe i should make a snowman HPB…..
It’s supposed to snow a lot tonight here…
5 year old cousin staying at my house= no MB for most of yesterday and today. I’m guessing the topic is now snow, and not going back.
It is supposed to snow
. I hope it does.
It snowed this morning, only about one inch though… not enough to do anything with.
It’s quite pretty though
Just hope it doesn’t melt overnight, it’s supposed to rain
Here in some sucky part of California that doesn’t snow I pine away, pondering about white, light, snow. Actually, southren California isn’t too bad, since Disneyland is like an hour away and the beach is a half hour away! But that’s all there is. I’ve seen snow about… two times. CURSE YOU DANG CLIMATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And the worst part is that I read about snow ALL THE TIME. Does no one have respect for the poor kids who never get an inch of snow?!?!?!
so the huge piles of snow turned into ice and slush over night. the options are you can either walk in the middle of the road where there are no puddles of slush, but have to deal with LARGE patches of black ice. or you can walk by the side of the road and have extremely damp socks from the large abundance of slush. anyhooo twas an interesting walk to and from school.
42- If we had an inch of snow here, everyone would practically be dancing around singing! We had one good-ish snow (2-3 inches, maybe) about two years ago – I know some people who have lived in my town for over ten years, and that was the first snow that settled properly.
It snowed a bit. It melted by noon, though.
IT SNOWED HERE TODAY!!!!!
I just posted very exuberantly on the random thread about it.
I HAD A SNOW DAY! Wow, that was unexpected. It was only about seven inches of snow, and they cancelled school.
48-Lucky.
43- I wish I didn’t have to get snow. I live in Northeast Ohio. It’s freezing here and it’s snowy. I want a snow day but we aren’t likely to get one because our new superintendent is a jerk. Here is his opinion on snow days:
If I take my dog out in the morning and the wee freezes before it hits the ground, we can have a snow day.
We haven’t had any snow days for a while. We did have 2 days off for the ceiling collapsing in part of the old school building though. It happened a couple years ago. The bell rang and just as the last people left the room most of the ceiling in one room just fell. They were building a new school though and this is the first year they’re using it.
34- There are plenty of Californians. It’s just those of us in Washington area (or, in my case, mostly NE Oregon and occasionally SE Washington) that are rare.
I met a Muser once. Her name was Phaireby. She came on the blog a long time ago, she said.
It snows here occasionally (not in town). We had soem snow when I was nine, I believe, and then there was some last year. And of course some in between, I just don’t remember exactly.
It snowed at my house, but I wasn’t there to see it b/c I’m abroad in a place where it snows maybe once a year, and then only 1/2 an inch.
IT IS?
IT IS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
TIS SNOWIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LOL LOL lol lol LOL LOL lol lol
IM GONNA DO MY HAPPY DANCE!
*does periodic happy dance*
WOOOOOOO HOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
WE HAVE SNOW and it is about 5 inches deep! Not much has melted, and we had flurries here today!
They didn’t plow the street the right way for me to get a snow fort, but before they even bothered to plow I, armed with a snow shovel and sheer will, built a huge one by pushing snow off of the street and yard! It is big, considering only 5 inches of snow, it is as big as forts when there was close to a foot. With help from the plow! I don’t know how I did it, but it is great, and I can go around inside and duck down to keep from beng hit by most snowballs, while still being able to stand on the wall to throw my own snowballs!
But tonight, whew. FOUR kids from the neighborhood simultaneously attacked, and I had to defend the entire fort by myself in the dark–and my snowball reserves are gone, with me making new snowballs constantly from snow off of the yard! The street is covered in snow from so much being thrown around!
Red-tailed HAWK

54- *is jealous*
I hate teachers.
They don’t seem to realize that IT’S ALMOST FRICKIN BREAK SO PULL OFF PILING THE HOMEWORK.
*pant, pant*
55-I agree. My town hasn’t had snow since I wasn’t here…*sighs*
56-don’t they need to make up for lost time?
I like snow. I like to imagine it while I wait at my bus stop at 7:30 in the morning wearing a pencil skirt and tank top in december.
We don’t get snow any more. Used to. When I was a kid. We used to find a couple of mammoth ribs and use them as a frame for a really big snowman. Now, we just get rain. And grey. Grey and rain, rain and grey, grey rain, rainy grey. We spell it with an ‘e’ because an ‘a’ would be too positive and definite. British grey is soft, squidgy, slightly out of focus, and entirely devoid of meaning. We spend futile hours discussing the exact defintion of drizzle. How heavy does it have to be before it becomes rain, and how light before it’s mist? It all passes the time while we wait for spring. That and candlelight concerts.
Weather vocabulary also varies from region to region. Up in Scotland, for example, what most other people would call “drizzle,” they call “air.”
OMG IT SNOWED ON THE 5th AND WE GOT OFF EARLY!!!
sorry bout that ^^; anyways the good thing about getting off early is that it doesnt count as a snow day
RE: HOMEWORK: well, i should be studying for my geography exam on monday but sadly i am procrastinating (kagy is the worst studier in the world, don’t tell anyone though
)
RE: SNOW: HAH! w00t! cnada does have quite a bit of snow right now (especialy in the arctic) but yeah, my neighborhood is mostly ice and snow which makes my journey to the bus stop each morning periliouse.
RE:MUSERS: up here other musers are non existent!
60- Hi, PB&J!
It snowed at first, but then the temperature rose a little and we had a downpour. Nothing is left except some ice and the pitiful remains of snowmen. Maybe it’s global warming.
gotta love lake effect snow!!!! can u guess wat lake?
we don’t gets snow in here in Southern California. Which makes it annoying when the radio station plays the song “If it doesn’t snow this Christmas.”
But my family has a cabin in the mountains, which get snow. Hopefully.
59 – and exactly what type of climate do you live in???
67: A warm one, presumably.
I want snow!!!!!! It’s bloody Alaska, and there’s, like, maybe a mm of snow on the ground, the lake isn’t nearly frozen enough to walk on yet (and it wasn’t that many years ago when it had ice thick enough to walk on by thanksgiving). We’d had a little snow, back in October or so, maybe nov, a decent amount. Then it ALL WENT AND MELTED! I blame bloody global warming. *sniffle* Whatever the case, me wants my snow!
PB&J: Please tell me you all don’t really spend lots of time discussing what’s rain/drizzle/mist. That’s worse than psychotic. And brit spelling (of most everything) is much cooler than US spelling. Although, some is a little weird: manoeuvre–I mean, c’mon, gets a bit complicated there, but still, it does look cooler–and however you spell licorice–I forgot, and too lazy to go look in azkaban and see how it was spelled….least, i think it was azkaban that mentioned licorice wands, but could’ve been a different one. Any cosy, and defence, and practise, and realise, and sympathise, are all a bit weird. But definitely much more cool than US spelling…..I’m still very mad at scholastic form americanising the hp books…..and i’m really off topic now, so back to snow
I want snow!!!!!! Nice, fluffy, thick, white snow!!!!!!!!! Snow? I never get snowdays….it’s one of the downsides of homeschooling.
Snow, snow
High and low,
Wherever we go,
Let it blow,
To and fro,
Hi-de-ho,
Snow, snow, snow!
60- I spell grey that way. My spell check doesn’t. I like your reason and think I’ll adopt it because it is the same as mine, only better worded.
64 – Hail, unintelligible entity!
68 – You could always tell your wordprocessor to use the UK dictionary instead of the US one. Then all your spellings would be idiosyncratic and utterly illogical.
70 p you don’t actually need a reason for spelling grey with an ‘e’. Most spellings don’t have reasons. Trough. Plough. I rest my case.
hahahahaha we got out of school early today (NO SWIM PRACTICE!!!!!!) because we got too much snow!!!!
Snow.
It all melted.
I am sad.
what the heck? we have miles of snow snow and ice and do we ever get a snow day? noooooooooooo! gr… it’s everywhere rural that gets snow days.
Kagcomix (75): I think it depends on the area where you live, and how prepared/good they are at dealing with weather. My cousin apparently gets *rain* days, because her city can’t handle rain. My city, however, gets tons of rain and it’s unheard of to have a rain day.
75-my cousin in VA gets easy snow days for 1″ of snow because their plow systems are bad. We have about a foot but noooooooooooo….
wow. snow days. they are nonexistent where i am. we have a frickin 13 inches and NO SNOW DAY! only an hour and a half delay! sheesh. and i had to shovel out our driveway. tis not fair!
78- You live in MA. Probably Boston area. We got 13 inches of snow but we had a snow day! I was listening to Ramiro and Pebbles on JAMN 945 (jammin j probably knows them.) and they said L******** had a snow day today, and then I up “Up In Here” By Buster Rhymes, and start dancing like a white guy. Oh yeah, native americans cant dance either. But we can jump. Damn right we can jump. (if it wasn’t a snow day, i would put on “Apologize” by OneRepublic”
76 – Rain days? What the heck are those? Too much rain? (Well, I can understand if it’s flooding, but just rain?)
78 – 13 inches and no snow day? Well, I guess that’s possible. I live in MA too (assuming Cliff Eagle Teh Pwnage is correct), and may or may not have a snow day (then again, our driveway is half a mile long, speet uphill, so when it’s really icy, even if it’s not a snow day, it might end up becoming a snow day for me.)
80 – Hey, near where I live there are fog days, because it’s near the ocean, and sometimes there’s so much fog that it’s unsafe to drive, so no one can get to school.
It’s supposed to snow a lot, here, but I’m just hoping it doesn’t get in the way of the Christmas Bird Count… (But maybe a snow day or two would be nice…)
We have snow.
And it’s December.
This is weird.
It has been snowing SO MUCH for the past few days. It snowed all day today, and tonight we’re supposed to get a “slippery sandwich,” as the newspapers called it: a layer of snow, then a layer of ice, then another layer of snow. The roads are really bad right now…
IT SNOWED!!!!!!!! It snowed all night and we got almost eight inches! And it’s still snowing! w00t!
Seriously. We got a storm last night, and it snowed about eight inches. And it’s still snowing. Last year, we didn’t get snow until February (there was a blizzard on my birthday), and it stayed until mid-April.
But I am ill, so I don’t have to shovel
84-“slippery sandwich”. Tehehehe.
We’re supposed to get incredible amounts of snow, but so far we don’t have as much as I’d like. Still, it’s pretty windy.
Hmmmmmmmm… shoveling might be a good idea, actually…
lucky ducks…we maybe get one snowstorm a year in my town, and even that snowstorm is like 2 inches or something. The last time we had a snow day off from school was 2001
56) in my school you get the most homework right before breaks. It sucks
Snow is good. I never get snow where I live though, it kind of sucks. I live about 45 minutes north of San Francisco. I have to go to Tahoe to get snow.
I liked the snowflake article in Muse when it said how they form and what temperatures the different kinds form at.
w00t! We got 6 inches last night to add to the 2 already on the ground! I LURVE SNOW.
I think we need 7-10 inches for it to be a snow day. grr.
91-I’m really jealous. We had 3 or 4 inches this morning, but almost all of it melted.
91- Waaaah! I am uber jealous!
No snow here!
Snow = awesome. That’s all I have to say (and with over two feet, well!).
Hmph. It was too warm in my hometown for the snow, so all it did was rain.
My “homeroom” teacher, Mr. Judd, said that it ever in this crappy climate (he didn’t actually say crappy) he’d let us go out immediately because proboly( thata a a hard word, I got it wrong) none of us have seen snow in [Snipville]. Yay for Mr. Judd!
Why aren’t there any “Rain Days”?
There are! I’ve had them! What happened was that my elementary school was in a rural area (only place cheap enough for them to build on) and one day it rained a TON. Because of that, there were flash flood warnings, so school got cancelled. It happened again a couple of years later as well.
I do not enjoy this topic very muchly as there is no snow in New Zealand at this time of year, and not very much in winter either.
You know, all this time I’ve been thinking we’d build Muse Academy off the coast of Iceland. But New Zealand is very pleasant, too, isn’t it? And you have all those lovely Southern Hemisphere constellations at night. Maybe we should reconsider.
99 – Are you able to see the Crux this time of year?
I thought the article about snow in the March 2007 issue was stupendous. A perfect mix of science and humor. Snow sugar cookies? Priceless.
100- And Kiwi birds!
*sings* Kiwi bird, kiwi bird, kiwi bird, kiwi bird, kiwi bird, kiwi bird, kiwi bird, kiwi bird, kiwi bird, kiwi bird, kiwi bird, kiwi bi*is pied*
Not to mention all that Lord of the Rings scenery. It’s tempting.
103- yes, it is…
(100) Maybe we need to have a campus in each hemisphere, spend a semester in each.
105- or quadsphere.
106) or octosphere
107- no, quadsphere. northeastern, southeastern, northwestern, southwestern.
yep, i live in MA. go new england!(not). we get to spend our walk into school juping sowbanks, dodging cars, and risking our lives (not to mention freezing our tails off in the 15 degree weather), just to go through another 7 hours learning(ick). and then i spend another 2 and a half hours at track practice directly afterwards. fun fun fun…die. snow is good and all, but when you expect to spend many days having fun and sledding and all that, and then go fall and cut yourself on the rock hard surface of the snow, it kinda ruins the moment. i hate hard snow. it hurts my face.
SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW i loves it *drools*
110- as part of the PoPoPo, I fine you 20 piece of Vcholkit for a long post, and 30 more for it being on the nonorandom theard. pay up.
111 – Hey, it was on topic. Ok, it was too long, but you PoPoPoPe (the Pe stands for people) need to restrain your passions for fining people.
Enough on snow, Oxlin wants to talk about publishing allready!
Still no snow here, but this may be because I live in California nowhere near Tahoe.
112- pointless post poilce people?
113- maybe next month. this is a long discusion.
Okay…slightly confused here…Is it publishing or snow right now? On the homepage it says
Current: Publishing
and then
Coming Soon: Publishing
??????????
What upgrades did you make, GAPAs? https://musefanpage.com/blog/?p=1032
115 – yep.
I’ve had baaad experiences with publishers. Some of them are so nasty to you!
I’ve had some of my stuff published in newspapers and collections… I always ended up being embarressd because mor insists on giving copies of the newspaper or book as christmas gifts, and reading the stuff up or showing the painting at family gatherings….
119- hah. my parents are the opposite. I applied for a poetry scholarship contest thing and my mom didn’t buy one copy of it. I sort of want one as my friend from my writing class was a ‘regional winner’ too and therefor will have his poem in there. I could always order one I think…
oh! and I kind of want to be an editor. One who reads fantasy or YA fantasy. How does the publishing industry work anyways?
121- I want to be an editor too! Yay! *holds editor party*
121, 122 – I want to be an editor, too! *joins editor party*
Ooh, did someone say editor’s party?? I hope they made cupcakes, cause here I come! *joins party*
I have lots of stuff published in the newspaper, but I never feel very accomplished when that happens. I did get a poem published in the local section once, and they paid me $25.
My fiction teacher is a publisher, and at the end of our class, we had a book published with all of our short stories in it. It was just published locally, but I think he’s donating copies to the library.
*brings cupcakes to party*
so sorry I’ve been away from my computer. I can’t ad anything to the blog right now but I wanted to let everyone know that I didn’t abandon you!!!!!!
119-wait, didn’t your parents like force you to play a ton of instuments? or was that someone else. or they wanted you to be a virtuoso or something like that. i seem to remember something about parental problems with you.
119- my parents would make me do that if i had a talent!
128 – Better make sure you conceal your talents from them then. (unless you want to do that)
I am technically a published person because I designed over half of my highschool yearbook. Unfortunately this is where I had my bad experiences with publishers–my school’s yearbook company was so mean!
129- the point was that I have no talents (except boring fellow musers!)
I know that. I was just trying to make you stop beating up on yourself.
oh…….. thanks.
i’ve always wondered what the exact procedure of self publishing is….
127- We had a huge fall out about that. Don’t worry. Be confused. I’m confused. We are all confused.
I’m having another poem published in the newspaper tomorrow! They have one poem every Saturday, and apparently they don’t like to publish the same poet more than once a year, but according to the person who told me I would be published, “rules are for breaking, right?”
Hehe. If you’re that good, then that’s very true.
Current topic: Publishing
Coming soon: Publishing
Well that’s a problem. @_@
I have, like, nothing published. Nada. Zip. Zilch.
My parents, of course, are Google superstars. Even just their first and last names find something relating to them or their parents. Creepy.
138-If you search for my name (with the “s around the words to keep them together) you get 109 results, of which maybe one or two are actually me.
But I have nothing published either, except on MuseBlog and such.
I don’t know if this has been done already, but… Extra-curricular activities. An idea for the next topic.
138- I tried goog;ing myself once and i found my cousin from Colorado whom my father never cared to mention until i asked him about it. I did also try googling Azul Morgans, just to see how original I was and It came up with one entry: MuseBlog. Don’t know about you, but I thought that was pretty cool.
An idea for the next topic….. i want to suggest cats but it might anger the bunnies….. we’ve already had allergies…..
Well, all of you at the editor party can edit my stuff if you wish ^^ I am no good at it. Bah.
hello!
this is my first time on museblog.
Welcoming committee..?
143/144~ Oh, hello. Welcome! *pies* You can head to the Welcome Newcomers! thread and everyone else will pie you as well.
May I ask what the letters stand for?
145-The Welcoming Committee? RUN!
the letter are my initals
My innitials make the IM version of muffin: MFN.
Wheee! *pies HGKB* Welcome to MuseBlog!
Hello HGKB!! *pies*
My initials don’t spell anything.
*pies HGKB*
My initials spell ACW. If I combine my mom’s and dad’s last names (which I do in unofficial circumstances, because it’s super cool that way) they spell ACWM.
Mine are JDM. The first two, JD, sound like “Jade-y”, and the initials Jadestone is shortened to, JS, sound like Jess, my actual name.
Coincidentally, I noticed all this after I picked Jadestone as my online name.
mine are nt and dont really interest anyone…
*pies HGKB*
welcome!
Quack!
I once found a dog tag in goodwill with my initails on them. yes, i bought it
My mother is an editor, and I have no desire to join the family business. Strictly writing for me, although obviously I shall have a day job.
My initials, as per my birth certificate, spell TECATN. If my Chinese name were spelled using the modern system, I would be TEZATN. But if you separate out the English and Chinese, I am TEN CAT. Clearly, I have too many names.
