Things to do in the snow?

That sounds nice. My school has giant hills of doom, which should be fun for sledding/dying, as soon as we get snow. Seriously. Yesterday, it was below 0*C, and we had rain. Not even freezing rain. Rain.

Sledding is quite awesome, so is body surfing. In snow.

  7. Raynpho says:

3- I think that could be asked on the Ask the GAPAs thread, if it hasn’t already. Which I think it has. Probably.

    5- I’m pretty sure there’s an already anime/manga thread somewhere around here…

What about… our holiday wishlists? I’ve been semi-working on mine, but as of now, it pretty much consists of:

    MUSE back issues
    COOKIES
    Beedle the Bard

Oh, and a brontosaurus, but I somehow doubt I’ll be getting that.

    – A Muse Academy sweatshirt
    – An “I Beg to Differ” t-shirt
    – Kindle
    Outliers by Malcom Gladwell

    Wish list!

    • A ‘Resistance is Museless’ t-shirt.
    • ‘Attack of the Smart Pies.’
    • The rest of the Percy Jackson books.
    • ‘Beedle the Bard.’
    • A tack-on-the-wall whiteboard that I can hang in my bedroom/locker. Preferably the latter.
    • New reeds.
    • The new Sara Bareilles CD, Careful Confessions.
    • One visit from Hei Young. (But that will never happen. *sigh*)

There’s prolly more, but I can’t think of it. My minfd keeps straying back to the math homework that I need to do. *sigh, again*

    Wish list is as follows.

Anything and everything Harry Potter. the end. (With the exception of Beedle the Bard, as I already have preordered the collector’s edition for myself, as said parents would never get me that, and plus I didn’t want to wait THREE WEEKS for it).

  13. Rainbowstar says:

    My wish list:

    • These cool playing cards with different cat breeds on them. My mom bought them a few months ago, but said she wouldn’t give them to me until Christmas.

    • A new violin. My current one has a crack in it and will probably become unplayable before the end of the school year.

    • A mouse, rat, or hamster. Sadly, I can’t have a dog or cat (we’re renting a house and our landlord’s daughter is allergic to both). But I have a betta fish named Jingle Bell, and I’ve been taking good care of him, so maybe my parents will think I’m responsible enough for a small rodent. (I’d like a ferret, but they’re illegal in California.)

    Pie 0

  14. Luna the Lovely (11.5 Potterpoints!) says:

13–Ferrets are illegal in CA? That’s too bad….Move to AK and you can buy yourself a cute (but perhaps vicious–one bit the vet I worked for, it was rather funny) white ferret and name it Draco.

oooh, a rat, and name him Scabbers! (Hmmm, anybody get the impression I am completely possessed by HP?)

  35. Midnight Fiddler (she of 2 spzdk, 500 PiePoints and 30 Muszey points) says:

I don’t really know what I am going to ask for for Christmas……I don’t really need anything, and the stuff I do want is rather expensive and I know I probably wouldn’t get.
However, here is what I’ve compiled:
*the complete set of Horatio Hornblower books
*A cute watch from Garnet Hill (I love their stuff, but it’s so expensive. *drools*)
*A Musery shirt with the newest batch of signatures
    *Various and sundry CDs
*The rest of the “History of the universe” set by Larry Gonick and his other set the “History of the Modern World”

That’s all I can think of. Honestly, I usually just get things as I need them, so instead of waiting and getting a cell phone for Christmas, I got it last week because it was time to. Instead of waiting to get clothes, I go get them when I need ’em. It’s a good system, but it can make the holidays a little hard when everyone wants a long list to choose something from.
It was so much easier when I could just ask for items for my dolls, because I could make specialized lists that catered to each persons spending budget and taste. (Wow, I sound manipulative.)

Whatever, I like Christmas for reasons other than lots of presents.

The dangers of cows on the enironment?

Everyone’s opinions on anything dealing with Santa Claus.

    Pie 0

  55. (54) Be not perturbed, kiwimuncher. The story about “ho ho ho” was an urban legend of sorts, developing from a misinterpretation of a Santa-training policy in Australia. The booming “ho ho ho” sometimes frightened small children, so Santas were urged to be sensitive to their audiences and tone down the exuberance as necessary.

Eyeliner…..it can be okay if used sparingly, but I’m going to agree with Zallie, if your parents say it doesn’t look very good, it might not be as pretty as you think. It’s easily overdone and personally I don’t think it’s that attractive.

You would understand if your school had uniforms, or at least ones that are as butt ugly as ours. Plus, I think it looks cool.

    I just realized something incredible…

When I sent my christmas list to my aunt and uncle, I had Etrian Odyssey on there as my vg. But after the day where they apparently shopped, I changed it to Mario Super Sluggers and gave it to my mom. SO I WILL GET TWO VIDEO GAMES THIS CHRISTMAS! WOOT!

In fact, I think I’ll get two of everything I asked for, because my mom (who does most of the christmas shopping for our family) apparently doesn’t know that my aunt and uncle went shopping with that same list.

I don’t wear any makeup, though I don’t have anything against it. Just don’t cake it on, avoid the wierdly unnatural shades of purple-glitter eyeshadow, and make sure you actually look good in it. *shivers at terrible recollections*

I’ve never had to wear a uniform, but personally I don’t see what’s so terrible. If they look good, that’s great. If they don’t, well, everybody is wearing them anyway, so no peer pressure! Everybody looks bad, problem solved! *insert sadistic cackle here*

79- There’s nothing wrong with looking good, or trying to, anyhow. People just go about it with different methods. Some work, some don’t. It’s a matter of opinion.

I wish I could state something other than the obvious sometimes. =/

64- Such optimism. You can never be sure! People are, in general, pretty stupid.

  101. (100) I explained the “grasshopper” references back in March 2007. Here’s the scoop:

It’s from an old 1960s- or 1970s-era TV show called “Kung Fu.” The hero keeps having flashbacks to his youth as a trainee in a Shaolin martial-arts monastery, where his old master used to call him Grasshopper. “Patience, Grasshopper. Can the sea hate the rock? Can the sky hate the cloud?” That sort of thing.

So whenever I say “Patience, Grasshopper” to a MBer who complains about slow moderation, that’s what I’m referring to.

Now, the rest of the story: The old kung fu master was blind. At their first meeting, the hero, Caine, blurted out that he couldn’t imagine a worse misfortune than not being able to see. The master replied something like, “You may have eyes, but you have failed to notice the grasshopper at your feet.” Caine looked down and, sure enough, saw an insect, chirping away. Hence the nickname “Grasshopper.” (Caine either didn’t notice or was too polite to point out that grasshoppers don’t chirp; crickets do.)

A couple of weeks ago, after a big snowfall, my friends and I went to this huge sledding hill. That was kind of a mistake on my part, seeing how I manage to hurt myself whenever possible. About a half-hour into sledding (sustaining minor bruises and such), I got onto a small red disc sled and went down. Everything beyond this is an account put together piecemeal from what my friends saw; I don’t remember. Apparently, everything was fine until I got to the bottom of the hill, and then I flipped and cracked my head on the ice. According to one of my friends, I just laid there, face down, on the ice for at least a minute and a half (the time it took for my friends to walk down to where I was). When they got there, I regained consciousness and walked back up the hill. The part where my memory kicked in was afterwards, when I was sitting at the top of the hill, sipping a cup of hot chocolate that we’d brought in a cooler.
