30 days till the best holiday ever. AWESOME.
w00ty w00t! Yay october!
my hair is brown and shortish (although longer than it used to be). Why are we discussing hair again?
#192 in the last thread: That’s a good idea.
179 other thread: That is the lowest. How can people be so stupid? I mean, wth? That’s horrible… stupid americans…
thirty days? i dont think so. im jewish so i have a holiday from sat. to friday of next week. we get to do stuff wy better than walk around at midnight and get cavities afterward
mmm!! ITS MAH B-day!!! yay!!! Also, I WUV halloween!!
I just got a pet rock…
what happened to the PPP? I really miss it. *Sobs heartbrokenly*
gah, the musefanpage hasn’t been letting me on it all morning..
12- Same here.
I called Penty today.. I actually heard her voice!
Yeaahh, the server is acting up- can’t get onto busy threads.
I really like the first amendment to the Constitution.
(12, 13, 15) Yes, the day has been quite an on-again, off-again exercise. We’ve been hanging in pretty well over the past hour, but I get nervous every time the word “loading” loiters on the tab for more than a few seconds.
(11) Korrorra, be of good cheer, the PPP is safe and sound. Scroll down to the bottom of the home page and click on “previous posts.” Or go to the October version of “Visit these Threads!” where Robert has posted a link. (I’d post one here, except I’ve tried three times already and each time the blog bogged down on me, and rational, nonsuperstitious person that I am, I’m just not going to do that again.)
What ho! A new Administrator! I must not have been paying attention.
I love October! And I just found out that my band practice on Halloween has been changed to 4-6:30 so I’ll get to go trick or treatin after all. Cheer!
Meh. I have an english essay to finish.
OK, shmokes, poll question:
What is your favorite type of cookie?
18-Wow…no…
19-CHOKLIT!!!!!!!
Does anyone know how to get songs unstuck from in your head?
listen to a better song
the worst songs get stuck in my head
12, 13, 15
ditto, i thought it was my crappy computer
No one’s here….
GAPA’s? I’m bored…
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWN…..
somebody say something
i hate rainy days
hi!
My hair is dark brown and 7 feet long. I wish.
ACK!! I don’t pay attention! New Thread! NEW THREAD!
*dances* *nutcracker music plays*
I’m feeling random.
I’m really sorry. I won’t post this randomly again for a long time. I hope.
*dances away*
Why would you want hair longer than you were tall? Wouldn’t you trip on it? And it’d be killer to wash and brush. As for putting it up, you’d fall flat on your face as soon as you tried! Besides, long hair is annoying in general. Well to me it is. It gets in the way.
I love rainy days!
Once, I got caught in a flash flood.
Not really.
Or maybe yes really.
Maybe I did, maybe I didn’t.
I’m not going to tell you.
*cackles*
*ignores menymeny rolled eyes*
#19: Ooo Have fun!
…I like white choc macadamia nut cookies.
#21: Haha No, but I do know how to get a song stuck IN your head – I’ve been listening to this CD practically all day, and all of the songs on it are probably going to get stuck in my brain, but I don’t even care…LOL, I love this CD…
#29: OK. I don’t believe you. Or maybe I do…Why would I tell you, anyway…
IT'S OKTOBER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oktober röcks w/ an umlaut!
9: hey, I don’t get cavities!!! I have never had a cavitie, and I went around twice 3 years in a row!!! *sniffs* You shouldn’t post things without much data *sniffs* *blows nose*
Rainy day in BCS alert! Rainy day in BCS alert! But it’s hot and sticky, and I have a cold and couldn’t even have a sick day from school — which I never/barely ever, minus sick days, miss — so, um, um… Gaaaaa!!! Raaaaaaaaaaaaaaandommmmmmm! And I got to post on the first day! 30th post! one of my lucky numbers! Yaaaaay! *dances*
Humph!!! I don’t even get to be # 3o…*gets ideas* lets just say, 33 is luckier? Muahahaha!
Aw, no fair! I put a comment and it got taken out! if it is the GAPAs fault… *big booming voice says:* I SHALL NEVER FORGIVE YOU… *goes back to normal* really, I won’t… *pies GAPAs*
179 last thread-What?! That is sooo stupid! I can’t belive anyone would do that…have you considered letting her stay with you for a while?
8-Hey! We’re not all like that.
My hair is golden brown, just past my shoulders, and layered. And my eyes are green-hazel.Happy October!!!!
Phooey. My HTML didn’t work.
Hair is just a little past my shoulders, layered, and vvv curly. Light brown/blond. I just got it cut like 6 months ago. It used to be 2 1/2 ft long. October! Yay! That means we’re that much closer to the end of the school year! woot!
18- Have you been under a rock or something?
I have mucho mucho tarea so I’m not supposed to be on MuseBlog, so HIbye…
My hair used to be at least 2 and a half feet, probably a little more, but i just cut it about a month ago. now it’s just chin length, razor cut. it sticks out everywhere and it’s really cute. i gave all my cut off hair to locks of love, that cancer wig organization.
do you guys still go trick or treating? what are you going as this year? im thinking zombie.
I posted somethinf earlier but then it wasnt loading so I just stopped trying.
Tee-hee! This is fun. I am listening to New Slang. but that’s not what’s fun (well it is but…gah never, getting to the point).
I was drawing a really generic boring drawing of someone in a dress but I was feeling crafty so I cut up this paper towel that I had been using to dab paint on and glued it all over the drawing and now it looks cool. Now I’m going to try it on the picture of a face I did a little while ago. Or I’m going to bed. Haha. Either way.
(8 Frigid Symphony) Please don’t generalize. I don’t see what someone’s nationality has to do with their intelligence. Plus, I knew a Scottish family living in France who kicked their kid out of the house. So it’s more like “stupid humans”.
(179 emogrl) That’s awful! I would suggest giving her a place to stay if she needs it, but don’t get involved in the family problems. She has to those out for herself.
I am happy right now. Sleeeep. *yawns*
39 (on 8)-Yeah, generalization is sloppy, but she’s right. One of my friends, who’s Anglo-German, was speaking to me on the phone and said that his girlfriend’s nieces were so rude, they were like ‘American children.’ I didn’t think he realized what he said to whom until I coughed. You’re up late, by the way. Oh, wait. Different time zones. Nevermind.
I keep wondering what would have happened to modernism if Ezra Pound and Marcel Duchamp were lovers. I really want to know. Maybe that seems like a weird topic to post about at 8:30 on a Monday morning, but that could be just me.
Has anyone read The Science of the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Michael Hanlon? It’s a short little book, and very scientifically sound, as far as I can see, but it uses H2G2 as a sort of vehicle. Hanlon also makes a really big deal of the Fermi paradox, which is odd. Oh yes, he really likes Star Trek. Not that I don’t, it’s just like, this is the SCIENCE OF H2G2. I don’t want to hear about Mr. Spock.
That’s a good Nerf Herders song, by the way.
Why are we talking about hair, by the way? I could solve the oil crisis with mine-we don’t need Iraq, we got Queenie!
Everybody knows my name-but it’s just a crazy game…
Like a paper cup, I fly around…
to anyone mad at me for generalizing: here’s a secret: I WAS BEING SARCASTIC!!!!!
oh and 40: In case you didn’t know… I’m a dude.
HAIR!!!!! good vibes all around, everyone, say something good about someone you hate. or love.
musebloggers are delightfully random. i heart museblog
heehee, this is random,, but it’s YOM KIPPUR!!! okay, i’m only half jewish, so i don’t do it, but my dad does. call me religous but i have to make a note of that. its why we have a day off school today.
38-I’m not sure if I’m even going trick-or-treating this year…I might just stay home and pass out the candy.
42,43-Sorry. I didn’t know you were being sarcastic. I guess I was generalizing, too, thinking that you seemed like the kind of person who might generalize. Or maybe that’s just being prejudiced. In any case, I’m sorry. And please don’t take what I said about you being “that kind of person” personally, f you know what I mean. Please. I didn’t mean it in a bad way, I was just being honest. And, about you being a “dude”, I knew, or, at least, was pretty sure.
44-A school near me is off today, too. [snip! –Admin.] My friends from there say that even the kids who aren’t jewish would pretend to be, just to get out of school. I think that’s pretty lame, personally…at least you’re actually jewish, even if it’s only half.
(41) Lonely at the top, is it, Your Majesty?
38- HECK YES I DO! Yeah, I’m sixteen now, and it’s kind-of sad, but hey, FREE CANDY. It doesn’t get much cooler than that. Despite what my HS peers think.
My Ren. Faire poster is simply ghastly. Everyone says it looks nice, but they are obviously missing THE HUGE TEAR IN THE TOP LAYER OF THE PAPER. I got water on it and almost died. And it is supposed to rain on Wednesday. Oh, well. Umbrellatime!
And I’ll have to warn the people I’m meandering with about my singing habits. Hello, what better place is there than a Ren. Faire to sing the Knights of the Round Table song? I hope I can find at least one other person who knows it…
I’m so excited, though. And the math quiz is moved to tomorrow, so I won’t have to make that up! *sings*
Has anyone heard Weird Al’s “White and Nerdy” song? I sang that all weekend…I want to bowl with / The gangstas… It’s great fun. Mocking the Ridin’ Dirty song and all. The only reason I knew the original song was from a bus trip when I didn’t have my iPod and some kid played that at max volume the whole time.
*squee* Next Fri. The LAST EVER [ish] Unfortunate Events book comes out. My copy is reserved. And I won’t even be staying at my house that weekend…*gasp* Okayokay I can totally get a ride, though. *sighofrelief*
I should probably stop stuffing this thread with this long and aimless post…..
14- REALLY? Did you people meet or what?
And what’s going on with the pumpkin drop?
47-Oops. Sorry.
47, on 41-I don’t get it. I feel dumb…again.
48-What’s a “pumkin drop”?
*pumpkin
48: That song is hilarious. The video is even better. And what makes it priceless is the fact that many people actually think the original song is good.
Hi guys! im just going to sit here and eat mindless amuts of sugar and read mindless amounts of internet manga (if i can find such things) and maybe i will come back here before i explode!
To anyone who doesnt know this: Black walnut is a very good dye. last year i went and dyed a few pieces of cloth brown using it. I also ended up dying my hands dark brown-greenishy as well. I did the same thing this year and had a lot of fun showing up at skool with my weird hands. Everyone probably thinks crazy, since my excuse was that i squeezed a ripe walnut…
On a different topic- has anyone read Amelia Atwater-Rhodes’s books? I think theyre pretty good.
Gaaah!!! i just spend like an hour slogging through bad crescent moon fanfiction and considerably better but still terrible OMG fanfiction and then some REALLY REALLY pathetic crescent moon fansites!
October foliage?
We’re talking about the color change of the leaves?
I don’t get it.
I have Jazz tommorow morning, so I am posting today. It’s the first day. I’m really no good at jazz piano, but I’m really the only person in my grade who wants to do it.
This is ENTIRELY random, and a really odd and un-useful question, and I can’t belive I don’t know this, but do you just tell the GAPAs your birthday? Or do they already know? I’m sorry. That was the most idiotic question ever. But I really didn’t know. And I have been wondering ever since I started posting.
I nearly fell down/up the stairs today. Twice. That is NOT a good sign.
Apparently the Canadian Thanksgiving is coming up. What’s the story behind that holiday? I mean, everyone knows the totally historically innacurate story behind the american thanksgiving, but what are the celebrating in canada?
53-good idea. I’ve been sitting around eating sugar, listening to The Who, reading dave barry, and avoiding mounds of hw that i should be doing as i speak. Don’t you just love the day before the end of the weekend? (Usually it’s a Sunday of course…but whatev)
Can we have another RRR thread? I feel like ill die if i have to do another reflective eassy. PLEASE. I really mean it. I’ll post until someone else does. Anything. I just need to write.
54- I didn’t know that when I was little and once my brother and I had a black walnut throwing contest/ fight/ try to smash them in the road, see if people run over them, etc. and we got our hands all stained
48- ha. there is an amusing music video out there for that song. Parmandiriel gave me the link. (not here of course)
GAPAs
post 60?
can i please have a thread. Pretty please? I’ll be extra good!
Do you mean a brand-new RRR, or a continuation of an old one?
A new one, oh mighty but gracious GAPA.
Sorry I wasn’ ton for a bit 2day, it’s Yom Kippur. And I do want a brand-new RRR, because I wasn’t keeping up with the old one.
(65),
SILENCE!!! The Great and Powerful GAPA has every intention of granting your request!
Sorry–just having a little Wizard of Oz moment there. The RRR is up and ready to go.
E~A (62),
How is Her Inimitable Parmitude doing nowadays?
Ill post this here so i dont muck up the NEW RRR thread.
THANK YOU!THANK YOU!THANK YOU!THANK YOU!THANK YOU!THANK YOU!THANK YOU!THANK YOU!THANK YOU!THANK YOU!THANK YOU!THANK YOU!THANK YOU!THANK YOU!THANK YOU!THANK YOU!THANK YOU!THANK YOU!THANK YOU!THANK YOU!THANK YOU!THANK YOU!THANK YOU!THANK YOU!THANK YOU!THANK YOU!THANK YOU!THANK YOU!THANK YOU!THANK YOU!THANK YOU!THANK YOU!THANK YOU!THANK YOU!THANK YOU!THANK YOU!THANK YOU!THANK YOU!THANK YOU!THANK YOU
ummmmm…
w00t!
sheep!
^ ^
= -_- =
okay, can anyone besides me and the creator of that recognize that as a cat?
oh wait, it messed up, the ears are off…
if the ears were in the right place, maybe. as it is, no.
but the face was cute.
Hey gapa-
Just noticing, isn’t say the Great and Powerful GAPA a little repetitive? I mean, doesn’t GAPA stand for Great and Powerful Administrator?
(42) sorry it’s just hard to sense those sarcasm vibes when you can’t hear it dripping from a person’s voice.
but hey no worries I really wasn’t angry…
(48) Heck yes! And I love the video too. The original of that song is ALWAYS playing in the courtyard at skool and it’s so ridiculously bready I want to scream.
(57) No worries, my Ruffled friend. Yes, you just tell the GAPAs your birthday. Then they, with their awesome magic skills, make it appear in the event’s column when it gets close. No need to feel stupid. We’re all musers here.
I was reading my muse while walking my dog and I brushed a cholla cactus. Intelligent, Skipper. Realy Einsteinic. So now I get to go spend the next hour pulling invisible fishooks out of my shoulder. weee! *does the my life is really awesome jig* neeeerthb.
sheepy sheep sheeep
8888o
* *
I think that’s a sheep..
(74) HAha! You’re right! *redudancy pie for Robert*
AND YOU, Tin Man! You dare complain to me about redundancy, do you? You clinking, clattering collection of caliginous JUNK!
Actually, you’re right. I should have said “The beneficent GAPA has every intention of granting your request.” That’s what Oz really told Dorothy and her friends, after all. At least I didn’t make you fetch any broomsticks…
Holy sheep, its hailing like he– over here…
(I’m not sure if h-e-l-l is a swear over here)
78- This dude at my theater camp had that line once.. He has a sort of raspy voice which makes it hilarious..
79-Aren’t you only 11 years old, anyway? You shouldn’t even be saying that…sorry, older sibling instincts, here. I have a brother about your age, and I hate when he swears…he doesn’t even know how to do it.
#38: That’s the type of hair cut I have too – but my hair wasn’t that long before…I only managed to donate about ten inches.
#48: LOL, W+N is hilarious! My LB’s friend is obsessed w/ listening to Weird Al, and he gave us a few songs from the new CD. My favourit is the polka party one…I think it parodizes (Is that even a word?) a song by Franz Ferdinand and yet another song by SoaD.
#54: The psych classes were doing some experiment today that involved green dye…and I guess they got in a dye fight or something…b/c I saw a lot of green-ish ppl walking around skool. Hehe.
#70: Hey that’s cool.
I actually might have recruited another Muser today!! I was carrying the new issue to Spanish class, and I ran into my friend in the hall. She said something like “Hey, what magazine is that?” and I just said something like “It’s called Muse – It’s actually a Sci / Art / History mag.” But hey, she was actually interested, so we walked down the hall, and she read a bit of it (I actually haven’t had time to read it yet…It looks relly interesting. Gr…). She said she wanted to subscribe, so I gave her one of the subscription cards in it. Yay! We shall take the world by storm!
70-rofl- tthought that was a sheep-ya know, the reference to sheep beore it….
lol
81-yeah, me too, brother age of 9.
2-wow!im lucky!
that was 2 mins earlier. lol
I WIN!!!!!!!
Bonjour all! I have just discovered the magic that is the muse blog, though I’ve been getting muse for…um…six years now? Wel…something like that. Anyway, I’m still trying to find my way around, but I just wanted to say hello.
i believe the first time you voiced the setiment that you would like to use that phrase, it was great and powerful administrator.
Hi guys! Mr. Administrator GAPA dude sir, don’t forget that my birthday is October 23. Muchas gracias.
For an exciting and interesting story, tune in to RRR. I will be interviewing Mr. Green on this blog thread.
————–AN–INTERVIEW–WITH–MR.–GREEN,–CONCERNING–THE–EXPLOSION–THAT–HAPPENED–IN–TOWN–DURING–MY–LUNCH BREAK————————
K #13: That was quite a story.
Yup. I barely made it out alive.
K #13: Did you catch the squirrel?
No…We took a break. The people I was running with turned out to be good friends of mine.
K #13: I sent my reporter, Shotgun #11, out to catch the hubbub of the MuseBlog. Did you see him? He recorded the whole story!
Dude! I caught the squirrel.
*squirrel gets out of costume. S #11 pops out, wielding a shotgun. (duh)*
K #13: So, who, exactly, lighted the stick of dynamite?
S #11: Wasn’t me…
, , , & Us neither.
K #13: Hmm…
K #13: FURTHER INFORMATION CONCERNING THE EXPLOSION WILL BE POSTED LATER.
Mr. GAPA, can I have an interviewer’s thread? I would like to investigate some of the weird happenings going on around Muse Blog. My reporter and I will travel deep into the depths of MuseBlog in search of interesting stories. So please please please? It would really mean alot to me. Pwease? please? pleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleaseplease??????? I’ll write very funny stories on it. I’m currently investigating the new “Stupid Senseless Smiley Stories, v. 2006.2” thread.
After finding nothing there, I left a first post comment and left. S #11 and I went to Robert’s journey to the heart of Musery”. I typed up a story, but I need a place to put it. (pleasepleasepleasepleaseplease) I’ve also investigated the “October ‘Happy Birthday’ Thread”, and I wrote a story on it, too. (pleasemakeanewthread) I’m currently investigating the “RRR, v.2006.5” thread. Until later…
SILENCE, WHIPPERSNAPPERS!
Best part of the whole Ozzing movie!
84- HELLO! *pies*
You: Are you….THE BRAIN SPECIALIST?
Me: HELLO!
You: ARE! YOU! THE! BRAAAAIN SPECIALIST?
Me: NO! NO, I am NOT the BRAIN SPECIALIST! No, no, I am not…..YES! YES, I AM!
Sorry, MP moment there.
89- We used to have a Mews Nuse thread, and I ask for a new one every so often….but….still no news thread…GAPAs? *puppy dog eyes*
By the way, Happy Birthday, E~A!
I only know three people, including myself, who are dressing up for the Ren. Faire! Surely they jest! It’s no fun if you aren’t in costume!
TOMORROW!
Faretheewell, comrades!
It’s my Museblog anniversary! Pie me, everybody!
Yes, do visit the RRR, but actually advance the story. Wouldn’t that be nice?
Welcome, uni0000! I just started posting a few weeks ago, and I’ve been getting muse for 7 years. Don’t worry, you’ll catch on pretty quikly. *Welcoming Pie sails towards uni0000*
Ive never had any problems with tellinga link from green text. the link turns blue when i move my mouse over it.
What if someone posted a huge page of links gotten from the mag? the gapas wouldnt be able to zap them, since theyre from muse. or what if some one made a green text post and one teeny tiny little letter was a link?
Yes, this is a weird post. So what? this is the random thread.
hey OEAD, can you make some screenshots on what the MB looks like from a GAPA’s point of view??
92- *pies*
my anniversary was…. yesterday.
10 months!
Hi!
I’m new.
And didn’t get many pies on the Newcomer’s thread.
I didn’t want to keep you from your priveleges, so I’m presenting a target to you.
Cheers!
48-“White and Nerdy” is cool. My mom got the new Weird Al CD for her birthday this weekend, so I have it on my iPod now.
randomly bored
82- I lend my copies out to teachers who’ll give them back. They like them and order them for their kids. Bwahaha! Mostly Harmless is coming into effect!
Heeey is anyone doing the NaNoWriMo thing? I just registered. I hope I can write the thing in time. @_@ I reccomend all asiping authors do it, it looks fun…
99- New Weird Al CD?!?!? Awesomeness, I shall have to *ahem* acquire it.
Welcome all new people!
0.03% of Canadian road accidents involve a moose
7% of Americans actually believe that Elvis is alive
More people prefer paper towels than hand dryers, but the actual numbers are not yet known.
#98: Do you like cherry pie? ‘Course you do – *Pies*
Velcome!
98-WooT!!!
*pies Dae Huan with Banana Cream Pie*
You’ll soon learn (very soon, considering I’m telling you) that Banana Cream Pie is my favorite kind of pie, and that’s what I use to pie poeple with…unless I’m really mad at them, in which case they get pied with rock pies.
Yay for moderators!!!
Er…GAPA’s…yeah…*sigh*….how many times am I going to have to post this face?
Is it or :greenman: I think it is but am not sure.
OOOOH YEAHHH!!! It IS ! Joy!
102-
Did you know that sharks never pee?
How about that slugs have 5 noses?
Or that lethologica is the name for when you can’t remember the word you want to use?
TNT stands for Trinitrotoluene?
Honey never goes bad?
Los Angeles ‘s full name is El Pueblo de Nuestra Senora la Reina de los Angeles de Porciuncula? ……………………….
*keeps rambling completly random facts to herself*
I just realized something. since you don’t need passwords or anything to do MB, doesn’t that mean that someone could easily pretend to be someone else?
i’ll try it let’s see who should I impersonate…….
ok this is Emmatheduck let’s see how it comes out…..
yes it worked! i am now Julieb! (sorry Julieb i just chose you because you were the last person who posted here) and now i can’t even see the comments i had posted as emmatheduck that hven’t been moderated yet!
i can’t blieve no one ever thought of that before. or maybe they did but not that i know of.
oh good it really worked. i was afraid the GAPAs might not moderate it or something. now who else shall i be……
i would pretend to be a GAPA but i dont know how to do green or italic. does anyone know?
Changing your name is an old trick, ETD. I think most MuseBloggers would tell you that the novelty wore off a long time ago. Why don’t you ask them?
oh i didnt know that. i’ve only been on MB a little over a month. i knew people change their names, i just didnt know that people change their names to other people’s names (if that makes any sense) i still think it would be cool to impersonate a GAPA though. in fact, for all you guys know, that last post of robert’s was actually mine! MUAHAHAHA!!!!
101- I was just about to ask that myself. hee hee… I did it last year, didn’t finish and this year I’m doing it again. I still don’t think I’ll finish though. School makes me too busy.
*pies Dae Huan with pumpkin pie*
yes post 110 is right. now am i really emmatheduck or not????
the gapas can tell by my e-mail address…
118: You don’t know how to put the false link on Robert’s name…
so long and thanks for all the fish, so sad that it should come to this, we tried to warn you but oh dear…
sorry. I often burst into song spontaneiously.
cool…just don’t explode…
i now go to download the new Wierd Al cd.
122- Despite your nets and tuna fleets, we thought that most of you were sweet…
Hated the movie, did absolutely no justice to the book, but the song is fabulous.
(by the way, this is really Julieb, not emmatheduck. Though I guess I could have multiple personality syndrome and not know I was emmatheduck… Oh no, I can’t remember what I was doing at 8:47 pm yesterday! Oh, yeah, doing online crosswords and trying to avoid my homework.. )
Shotgunn #11 is on the computer. I’m at a college with him. He’s my brother, in case you people didn’t know…
Wow. New thread, and already over 120(130 now?) posts. My. Umm… oh yeah, is there a link to the lumberjack song anywhere? My friends never heard it, and she wants to.
I really like jumping in leaf piles and walking in dried leaves because they make a totally awesome crackly noise
I’m Shadowkat’s little brother. Any ideas for a name for me? That’s all I can think of, for now.
*pies everyone on the thread with apple pie*
126-college? isn’t he named shotgun #11 because he’s 12? Or something?
127-*gasp* I was in that sad state myself a while ago too though so i guess i can’t gasp too much. Idk, i just rented it, it’s on the third (?) dvd of the complete set. I think the show is Full Frontal Nudity…or mebbe that’s the parrot…i don’t remember…
That was my brother, as he told you. He plays soccer, loves the Edge Chronicles, and plays guitar. Just thought that might help anyone who actually wants to come up with a name for him.
Hint: Make it something pretty dark/evil, but not, like, seriously dark, if you know what I mean.
128- Me too!!!!!!!!!
131- Dire Wolf. That’s an awesome name.
It struck me yesterday how racist Lord of the Rings could be interpreted as. Picture all of the heroes to yourself for a minute.
Do it. I’m not kidding.
Have you done it? I’m not going on until you have.
Seriously. You’re wasting my time.
Ok, now that you’ve done that, think about the humans in the service of Sauron. They’re suspiciously Arab-like and even Central-to-Southern-African-like. Oh no, Tolkien couldn’t have most of them be controlled by Sauron but then one or a couple help the good people. Instead they’re all evil! EVIL! What do the men riding the Oliphaunts look like? They look like Bedouin! F’real! The elephants, for that is what they are with a fancy spelling, positively reek of representing Carthaginians and Northern Africans. It’s shameful.
The same goes for C.S. Lewis and his Chronicles of Narnia. The North, comprised of Narnia and Archenland, are all good, while the Calormenes to the south are, except for a small percentage, wicked and twisted. Their god is portrayed as all that is evil and corrupt. At least Lewis was good enough to have some of them be good, but they’re portrayed as exceptions.
And where, exactly, are all these bad, dark-skinned men from? The South and East! Are all of these examples coincidence?
Something that really aggravated me today was the sheer number of people who don’t know what an archipelago is. Excepting me, my entire business management class, including the awesome teacher, whom I’m not slighting in the least, did not know what an archipelago is. This so amazed me that when I arrived in band, I began to ask random people if they knew what it is. Out of the people I asked, only two people knew. They’re cool, one of them is in limbo for membership of the Shadow Sector.
127- Just search it on YouTube. Easy as π.
Oh, I forgot to tell you. I did the “Hug Bob” test on 1 of my friends. She hugged him, than asked me to hug Joe.
133-i agree. and how about the belgariad? which i love btw, but you have to admit it has racial issues. entire races of bad guys vs. entire races of good guys.
i know what an archipelago is, go me.
I have band tonight, and am in process of getting ride home. *sigh* today was so confuzzling. Omg, and i talked to two people on the phone at once. Ok, so mom called my cell thinking i was at crew, but i was home b/c crew didn’t start until 5:30. So she was talking, blahdeblah, and she said something about “if james calls, tell me”. So RIGHT THEN the phone rang and i was like “wait! i bet that’s james” so i picked it up, while holding the cell phone still, and it wasn’t james, it was michelle asking for a ride to crew. So i said “h/o, my mom’s on the cell phone right now, i’ll ask her” so i put both phones up to my ear and started talking to 2 ppl at once. Very confuzzling. Eventually crew was canceled though, b/c we just had a huge killer thunderstorm, and because monica is one of the two people in our grade with class spirit (she’s the only one that went over to megan’s house to work on the float. I find that amusing, in a sad sort of way) So my head, my head. It was so confusing. Anyway. Oh and the stupid phone’s been ringing all day. I’m the only one home. I HATE talking on the phone. And there it goes again. Bye.
133- that often happens in stories, the over simplification of things. i have never read a single book where each nation’s populance is contains all sorts of people except maybe Asimov
Hmph. As if i haven’t spent enough of the day on the phone, now there’s a stupid TORNADO and everybody’ll be calling to “check on me” Gah.
133- Lewis and Tolken were good friends and helped each other write their books. (you might have known that alredy) I didn’t think about the evil from the South and East, though I really like the Narnia books.
129- how about “shadowkat’s little brother”?
I am calling myself this for the time being. If you truly know your LOTR lore, then you know who Stormcrow is, and you know his first initial. If you can figure this out, you are clever indeed. I have decided to use his mark as mine own.
121-i never figured out how to do that!
does any1 know how? if so, telegram me on nationstates, because robert’ll zap it. lol j/k idont think ur an authoritarian anti-free press dude. allthough,….when you think about the name….
135-i dont remember there being any connection to real life with those racial problems. i mean, all of the poeple follow torak, and there all evil, exept for their slaves. are their slaves the same race as them? i cant remember. but anyway, in the book, supposedly, that race is evil, and if they dont compare to real-life people, it doesnt matter.
oh yeah, has any1 read by someone whom i cannot remeber the name of?
great book, and adresses rasicm in a cool way. (by that i mean interesting, new)
(137) Tornado? Wow. Crazy
(133) Yes, I had noticed that about both the books, only it always seemed more obvious in the CoN books to me, because all the bad guys wear turbans and seem such. The bad guys get a lot more descrpition in general in the CoN books. But ya know, a lot of literature is that way. I doubt either of them were intentionally trying to imply anything.
It’s that old implicit bias creeping up on us again….
Toodles, I’m off to stop being a procrastinator.
Hail, G. S.! (Did anyone other than Théoden call him that? GrÃma, maybe?)
TEACH ME HOW TO MAKE SMILEY FACES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I ONLY KNOW HOW TO DO ONE STUPID SMILEYFACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don’t know. Recently I recalled how excellent the books were and began to re-read them, as I do. I will read the parts I like and jump around like mad. It’s great that I have a box set of all three plus the Hobbit. Being as intelligent and omnipotent as you are, Robert, I bet you know who this is.
It’s autumn!
*Dances*
Half the trees in my neighborhood are already bright bright red/orange/yellow. It makes me happy…
Guess what? For Spirit Week (next week), my skool has not only a Pirate Day, but also a Greek History Day! My friends and I already have some sweet costume ideas for GH Day. Kels, who has relly long hair, wants to be Medusa. T, who is tall w/ spiky-ish hair, is planning on being Hades (I think she’s going to dye her hair blue or something). I couldn’t think of anything to be, so I just told T I’d be one of her minions. But then she suggested that I be Panic (one of the funny little demon guys from the Disney version of Hercules), so I just might do that.
LOL…We’re singing this relly neat gospel song in chorale, but we still sound very “white,” according to the teacher. She was trying to think of an exercise that would help us loosen up a bit, when someone suggested that we go outside – She thought that was a good idea, so we (Like 70 ppl) went out into the parking lot and sang the song. Yay. It was funny to watch ppl going out to their cars…A few gave us these weird looks. ^_^
Geth wut? I dun took the DRP test today, ‘cuz I dun failed it the latht three years! :S
We had a camera war at lunch today. See, Kels and A always bring their cameras to lunch, and they always manage to get a bunch of pictures of me w/o me even noticing (AKA absorbed in drinking my coffee). So by now, I figure that, in order to get even, I’d have to paparazzi them about 25 times. Well…I finally found my (disposable; I’m old-fashioned…) camera, which had about 25 pics left on it, so I took it to lunch today. Everyone was, of course, taking pix of me, b/c they thought I wasn’t looking…but then I pulled out my amazing-six dollar-kodak-disposable-camera and took a ton of pix of them. So it did kind of turn into a war…Hehe. Then I got a picture of the exit sign (I was trying to use up film, OK?) in the back of the first floor in C building, w/ T pointing at it / giving it a very…confused look.
We watched a film about some ppl w/ synesthesia the other day in bio. There was a lady who could see different colors for each letter of the alphabet, another lady who could feel musik (She felt different types of musik in different places / manners), a guy who could see musik, and a guy who could taste words…Wow, I feel sorry for anyone who’s synesthetic…It doesn’t exactly sound like a bunch of fun…
I finally had a chance to mail my letter to Muse today…I hope they decide to print it.
133- Hay Jackal I’ll go with your idea for now, but im thinking about Mad Man Wolf :???:?
145,146-Hey! Are you new?
rofl
Erm…Question. Does what I post here seem especially snark-ish to anyone? Sometimes, I read over my post after I hit the submit button, and then I just think “Oh gosh, I relly shouldn’t have said that.” I’d relly like for someone to tell me.
I like the name stormcrow. I have yet to know who it is.
151) Not really, but I am not the bestest of judges.
*Welcoming Pie sails towards uni0000*
—————–
he-he, I should have known. This is muse, after all! You are all very random (like me), post alot, and know each other, so trying to catch up is quite difficult. But since mainly intelligent people read muse (besides for those girls who sent that horrible hate letter a couple of months ago), I figure that I’ll like this blog if I can get used to it and won’t meet too many idiots.
ok, I’m still catching up so I’m responding to posts as I read them, but are you talking about monty python? You mentioned full-frontal nudity and the dead parrot, so I’m guessing you are, and if anyone wants to know episode numbers, I own every single monty python’s flying circus episode in this neat little dvd case.
hmm…I don’t think tokien was meaning to be racist, but you never know. And yeah, the whole evil people from the south deserty area thing did strike me as kinda racist in narnia. But since the whole narnia chronicles are one big allegory to the bible, lewis could’ve been trying to have the isrealites that believed in different gods and were sinful in there. Who knows. And I haven’t read the books in a while, so I could be totally wrong here.
oh, what amuses me greatly is the fact that tolkien told lewis the narnia books sucked and would never make it. I don’t know why, I just find that really funny, since they became almost as famous as lotr. (Now, mind you, people don’t go talking in aslanian and dress up as beavers or anything, but lotr readers tend to be a bit more…enthusiastic. I don’t want to say obssesed or anything, but, well, when I saw the first lotr movie with my dad, in the middle of a battle he started hissing, “The castle’s on the wrong side of the river!” Yes, that’s right, he actually remembered. But that’s my dad.)
*cracks up* you said you only knew how to do two smiley faces, and you know how to do two! *laughs some more* Oh god, this really isn’t that funny, but for some reason I find it halarious!
I’m so weird.
emogrl, I’m sure you’ll be happy to know that setember 19th is national talk like a pirate day. My friends and I talked like pirates all day, including in school, and it was the most fun I’ve had in ages. Yes, you’ve missed it, but mark you calender for next year!
saying “arr” is SO. MUCH. FUN.
Oooh, and fall’s my favorite season! I love the colors of everything and the weather and the rain and just EVERYTHING!
Um…I don’t exactly know what synesthetic is, but I can feel lines under my shoes, even if they’re not elevated off the ground at all. Then again, that may just be a weird part of my OCD, but it’s extremley annoying when walking across a basketball court.
Woah. When I talk I really ramble, don’t I? You’re probably all thinking I’m insane right now, and slowly backing away from your computers. Well if I can scare Muse people, then I truly have skills.
Toodles till tomorrow people!
(Once I was talking to someone online and I said toodles and they emailed me simply because they said that they found that people who say toodles tend to be awesome. Then again, it depends on your definition of awesome. Like if you find serial killers awesome, I’m…*shifty eyes* not awesome. But if you find people that talk WAY TOO MUCH awesome, then go ahead. Worship my mightiness. Which reminds me…I need to stop talking NOW.)
Welcome uni0000 *pies with strawberry rhubarb*!
We have a thing about chain posting on the blog. It’s not like some iron law that is punishible by death to break, but if at all possible keep it to a minimum. If you have lots to say or are responding to posts as you read, then just keep adding stuff to the comment box and post it all in one big long comment, to avoid clogging.
I own the complete Flying Circus too! It’s pretty special. I like you already just for owning it.
Haha! My dad totally did the same type of thing when we were wathching the LOTR movies! It’s weird your like my virtual twin or something…*is a stalker* just kidding.
Yes, actually we had quite a celebration for Talk Like A Pirate day here on the blog. We had a 2 special threads for it and everything. Look at them here and here.
anyway, welcome!
Skipper would also like to annouce that she is very good and virtuous for practing a) clarinet b) piano c) spanish.
She has not studied geometry, bio or global studies, nor has she edited her essay or worked on her sketchbook but we shall ignore that now, shan’t we?
*hums happily to self*
(162) Anyone know where “toodles” comes from? (Hint: it’s French.)
uni0000-Like The Skipper Nancy said, we try not to do too much double posting, as it’s called…you’re allowed to ramble, just don’t make it seperate posts. If you wnt to talk to more than one person, just put either their name or # of post (Example: I’m responding to post 161 right now.), and most people put a space in between different responses, if that makes any sense. And don’t feel bad, I ramble, too.
*pies uni0000 with banana cream pie*
164-I sorta cheated and looked it up, but it comes from the French phrase “a tout a l’heure”. Which is interesting.
94- That would be cool to do that for a links page, eh? Did Muse always publish links….or was that recent….I’ll browse through mine when I get home.
130- They’re on the same disc.
133- Shocking. And sad. The majority of my Honours Spanish III didn’t know the meaning of the word, “empathy.”
145- *welcome-pies* Um, there’s a list somewhere, probably the HG2MB.//
147- Hercules. Best movie ever. Okay, not really, but up there for animations with singing.
151- Not really…
155- So do I! *pies of joy*
We have the most…BS-y assignment ever in Gov’t class. I am sad. It’s a chart of what kinds of political info sources pass on. Sources, as in, family, school, media, past events, leading opinions, and another one I am fortunate to have forgotten. Those sorts of generalizations are very annoying. Yeah.
And I am still waiting for another announcement for the school newspaper.
And the bell just rang.
(94, 166),
I used to post links from the magazine on the Fan Page, but it’s too much work now with a blog to run. If anyone else wants to do it, though, I’d be happy to see them.
157+163- my brother is like that, in Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone he noticed that the stool they sit on for the sorting was 3 legged in the book and 4 legged in the movie.
Today’s the Day of Flamablamablous Celebration! Celebrate, fools!
You keep those pies, welcome or otherwise, away from me. Unless of course you’re meaning for me to eat them, in which case give them here. Now.
Ok, I know this will probably start a hate club and I will be proffesionally assasinated with in a year, but…
Does anyone else on this blog not like LOTR?
*Please don’t kill me!*
I mean, I my dad bought me a box set b/c he likes them and he knows most people who like sci fiction and fantasy like LOTR, but I couldn’t get past the first 2 chapters. I mean, it’s not that there was anything wrong with it, but it was just like the anne of green gables books my mother bought for me when I was 9, I just wasn’t interested. I am someone who reads a lot, like, a book a day, and has read almost everything, but couldn’t read LOTR. *hangs head ashamedly* I feel like such a dissapointment. And will probably be shunned by crazed LOTR fans forever. But it’s just been hanging over my head a long time, and I might as well say it directly, I, Julieb, do not like LOTR. There. Whoo.
FLAMABLAMABLOUS!! YESSSSSSS!!
So the past week has been hugely stressful. I had a five-page paper due (that I didn’t start until the night before), I had to copy down 10 freaking pages back into the correct journals, I had to answer all these millions of questions, I had to write 2+ pages of junk, I had to practise for Honour’s Band auditions, I had to finish this huge book…God, Its been horrible. For the first time in my life, I was stressed about school.
Anyway, so its been overwhelming.
I DO LOVE ATYP, though. Its fabulous. More about that later…
I did get to see one of my friends today (I don’t see him that often), so that was great. I have no school tomorrow. *happy dance* I think I’ll see that John Lennon movie this weekend…But right now I’m relaxing, listening to “Friends Will Be Friends” and breathing once again.
MmmmmmmmmmmmmI’mtired. I think I’ll have a lie down.
171- i couldn’t get through LOTR either!!!!!!!!!!!!!
as such, my only knowledge of it comes from 1)what i’ve heard peopl say, 2) the LOTR muse issue and 3) the one ring to rule them all flashplayer animations.
133-Yeah. Ever read Enid Blyton? If you haven’t don’t. I know what an archipelago is-I read Gerald Durrell.
157-Well, it was.
Emma the Duck/Julieb: ‘a’ in . Easy.
My nose hurts. Somebody punched it in gym class. Ow. I hate Ultimate Frisbee. And B., the person who did it. Ow. Ow. Ow.
yesterday i got nailed in the head with a football. and today tis idiout tried to steal my chopstick. evil.
174-ouch, sorry about your nose. But i ♥ ultimate frisbee! we used to play it on fridays in swim team (no, not in the pool-we didn’t swim on fridays, i don’t know why. It was just a Thing)
171-I can actually see that…i LOVE Lotr and curse all who don’t and yet i have to admit the style gets a bit boring. But i ♥ it anyway! *pies all Lotr-haters* lol
We had to go march in band today because we don’t know any of the marching and we have a game tomorrow. But it was all drizzly and wet and FREEZING cold. My mouthpiece was sooooooooo cold when we first got out there but then i was pretty much blowing on it constantly, whether playing or not, because otherwise it would freeze. Gah. And my glasses got all foggy when i went back inside. And they were wet. And i can’t play Sing Sing Sing (chips ahoy! w00t!) or Children of Sanchez. I can play Birdland though (w00t, go jazz band!) and Let’s Get It Started (obviously, it’s one of the stand songs. Plus we played it last year. Plus i already know the dance so i won’t screw up! w00t!) but AAAAAAAH we are going to suck. Nobody knows the marching. Bleh.
Oh and i forgot to get a ticket to the dance. MUST REMEMBER! If you get it at the door it’s an extra $5. I have no idea why, they’re just cruel like that. Oh, and sarah keeps threatening to get me a dress. *flees in terror*
[various expletives deleted] [by the ever-so-conscious-and-amazingly-wonderful Ebeth, not the ever-so-conscious-and-amazingly-wonderful GAPA] I just realized i have a half a chapter of history to do. SCREWED! ME! Ach!
If some gapa deleted my earlier post just because i posted some links, those links were from muse. so they were legal.
171-yeah lol. i couldent read any of em wither, xcept 4 the obbit, and that was kinda boring. i know about lotr form the movies! (those pwnd)
dinnertime right now, moms frying some doughnuts. Yum! (i still like pies better)
I had to run the mile today. I died. Kikis were not meant to run.
w00t! mom sed she’d buy me the flash program! and we get to se wicked IN NINE DAYS!!!!!!!!! and AGAIN IN JUNE!!!!!!!!!!! sqeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee ahahahahahahahaaha!
#159: Oh yeah, I definitely celebrated NTLAPD this year! And last year. Oh BTW, here’s your pie! *Pies you w/ cherry pie*
#s 153 + 156: Okay I guess that’s good! :S
#174: Tch. I’m sorry. Some ppl can be so stupid…
#175: Are you OK?? Yeah, I know how it feels to get hit in the head w/ one of those! It hurts…
#179: Mmm…I wish my family still believed in junk food…We haven’t had anything resembling…anything dessert-ish…in at least a month.
The White-Out Dance was canceled. I’m sad. My friend and I were going to go as white goths…white cargos w/ chains, white stud belts, white fishnet sleeves…I’m sad.
In band we are playing this super fun song that we will maybe play at the winter concert. It is a Hannukah song that sounds like a Jewish version of the POTC (pirates of the carribean) theme, so everyone kept saying “ahoy, gimme my bagel” lol
BTW, I would like to thank everyone who gave me tips for memorizing music
I was invited to a B-day party today via email, but am not able to go. Partly because my friend is 3 years older than me, partly because I have another activity that day. Now, to find e-cards of birthdayness!
@SM – By the way, how was that Ren Faire you were talking about? There’s a Ren Faire where I live once a year, I think…Maybe I should go check it out next year…
Today, this guy I know brought in a book titled The Book of Useless Information. I want a copy! I didn’t read any other posts; I’m tired.
Does anyone watch Braniac? It’s awesome.
183- tips for memorizing music? due share. also, what song?
188- It was 5 (short) songs actually:
Bruin Fanfare, Sons of Westwood (I already had those 2 memorized), We Are the Mighty Bruins, A Whole New World, A Friend Like Me
The last two are from Aladdin. If you haven’t guessed by all the Bruin songs, we played at halftime at a UCLA game (at the Rose Bowl) with a bunch of other middle and high school bands. It was tons of fun, even though we didn’t know where to go because we missed almost the whole practice (the bus didn’t come, we had to call parents with big cars, and we were late) and we looked really dumb in our concert band uniforms. And we have a tuba. And a bassoon. And no sousaphones (sp?). And our drum equipment fell apart while we were there and our band director tried to tape it together.
Those of you in band (especially if you’ve marched) will appreciate how funny all of that was.
(171) It’s ok, Julieb, we love you anyway. And you know what, I completely sympathize. The bane of Lord of the Rings is the first few chapters of the Fellowship, because unless you’re really into it, they’re not very interersting, and its really hard to get through to the good bits. I was lucky because my dad read them to me and made it interesting. But sometime, I suggest trying them again. The whole series gets way more action-packed and intense as you move on. But even if you don’t it’s ok. We won’t maul you. (with anything other than pies that is…. justkiddinjustkidding)
(162) a toute a l’heure! and I knew that before I read post 165.
171-Yeah, I tried to read LOTR and The Hobbit, but I just couldn’t get into it. They seemed sort of slow for me… Sorry, J.R.R. Tolkein fans, but…
i have noticed, hat in general, mbers seem to share very similer opinions. it is od that there seems to be a split over LOTR, especially since, as oneof the best known fantasy books ever writen, it seems the sort of thing we would all have at least read- and that instead of having at least thee of us who couldn’t get into it, we would be more likely to have a split some where along the lines of best/worst book ever written.
Wow, it’s been a looooooong time. So how are things in the land of the muse? Is Pheonix till here?
Does anyone even remember lil’ old me?
Btw, Pheonix get me a subscription to Muse AGES ago, and I never got it. Any ideas what I could do?
Whew. I was just reading all the dear old posteys from before. Actuall, I cheted and only started reading around post 100, this thread having not been here the other time I was able to come on for a while. And now I don’t really have anything to say at the moment. Hum.
192- I couldn’t get through lotr either. It’s somthing I should like, knowing my tastes, but I don’t know… I have read the hobbit several times tho, and must confess I enjoy it better than the others(welll, what I’ve read of them. Which is 1 1/2 books.) I don’t know, but I just have trouble keeping going whenever I get to the middle of the second book. *sigh* I’m due for another try soon, though.
Wait. I missed a Pie War? Noooooooooo!
For those of you who don’t know, I was instrumental in the first Pie War. I stood in the middle of the battlefield and ate all the pies.
191- Me too.
I’m going to Michigan today.
Wow, tis been a loooooooong time. How goes it in the land of the muse? New GAPA, I see.
Is Pheonix still here?
Btw, Pheonix got me a subscription to Muse for my birthday an age ago, and it never came. Any ideas what I should do?
Wait. I missed a pie war? Nooooooooo!
For those of yopu who don’t know, I was instrumental in the first Pie War. I stood in the middle of the battlefield and ate all the pies.
theres a new pie war on the New GAPA thread. we have two new GAPAs actually. its all on the thread.
come help us rebild Museica! visit https://musefanpage.com/blog/?p=473#comments .
Your question about your subscription has just prompted me to add a new Q&A to the Hitchhiker’s Guide to MuseBlog page:
Q. My issue of Muse is extremely late (or never arrived at all). What should I do?
A. Phone the publisher’s customer service department at 1-800-821-0115. The call is free, and the people there are friendly and helpful.
Ooops, sorry bout the double post.
Yay, I prompted a faq thing.
Good idea. I shall do that.
meep. I just got Eric the half a Bee song on my iTunes.
Why do I have the feeling that the blog is getting a bit boring? Where is everyone? It doesn’t seem that exiting anymore… Maybe it’s the fact that Rosanne’s gone…. If she comes back and it’s still like this, I’ll think about quitting…… *ponders*
poeple have stopped embrassing chaos! let it flow through you, et it take over your brain
*pies everyone*
*turns mouse into future issue of muse*
*stops posting to read*
202: It’s not boring! KA-BOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! See what I mean?
I will smash your face into a car windshield, then take your mother Dorothy Mantooth out for a nice seafood dinner, and never call her again!
That’s my absolute favorite line from Anchor Man. Even though most of the movie is pretty stupid, it has its merits, such as the news team fight.
I got the X-men trilogy of movies for my birthday (even though it hasn’t happened yet).
205: Does it have explosions?
KA-BOOM???????????
202, 204: I killed all the fun and the simplicity with my arrogant pro-european anti-american views. SUCKAAHS!!!
i think chocolate is okay
FS- remember, we’re all musers here.
I love frisbee and Lord of the Ring.
That was random. And yes, I have a subconscious need to double post. I can’t help it. I was trying to add some spontaneity to the random thread. Kokopelli made me!
Anyway, we had to watch Mean Girls in health this week. It angered me because, being myself a mathlete, I felt that their portrayal(spelling?) of math team was stereotypical and completely wrong. Then my band teacher forced all the math+band people to play in the 9th period band because we didn’t have high school math because of a high school pep rally. Goodbye, sweet study hall. We did no work and wrote long dialogues on our graphing calculators. That time the high scool had open house was fun. Oh. It also angered me that some feigning-sickness, lying people got out of band and got BOLTS passes because they helped the study hall teacher, while we loyal (or unwilling to face the reprecussions of missing band) students got nothing. And I had lessons today and missed Italian, where we apparently played Jeopardy, which I love doing(It’s so easy!), and the lesson was when we were told to come to band in the first place. So I played trombone for an hour more than usually, and I don’t even get credit for practicing, which we are graded on.
110- this is the man for aeiou
this is the man for aeiou
I have very, very long brown hair. Sometime soon, I’m gonna chop it all off and donate it.
101 (Axa)- NaNoooooooooooo! Yes, I’m doing it. Which brings me to the point of this post. Line break time.
So, I, like, had this idea, right, and then talked like a stereotypical teenager for no particular reason. (I do in real life, but that’s a part of my inarticulateness I’m trying to really. The word ‘like’ tastes really awful; I’m not synesthetic. I shall stop incoherent-parenthetical-rambling now yay.) Line break again.
So anyway, I got an idea for my NaNo story. It’s about a bunch of teenagers who know each other through a blog-forum-thing. One of them lives in a city occupied and bombed by an as-yet-unnamed enemy. Her internet will sometimes shut off for no apparent reason, which her friends investigate. Their search takes them deep into blog archives, where she let slip where she lived during happier times. They find this out and are, understandably, shocked. (They’ve known about the occupation, but they never imagined this was where their friend lived.)
Being fairly loyal net-buddies who have known each other for a while (think year or two), they decide they want to help get their friend out of the mess she’s stuck in. (She’s an only child and currently living mostly on her own; her father is in the army and her mother killed by a bomb.) Various problems ensue; I’m not really sure how the story will end. Please note that it’s set in a sort of Earth-that-never-was. The countries and cities are fairly different, but they are quite modern, slightly post-modern, and have internet.
Now, I’d plotted the thing out, began world-building, and started in on characters. This was when I realized how much my fictional forum sounded like Museblog, and I thought of how much I trust some of the MBers, and I thought ‘OMG I THINK THERE IS A LIGHTBULB TREE GROWING OUT OF MY HEAD LAWLZ’. And I wondered: ‘Could I base these people on real bloggers? Would they laugh at me? Would they accuse me of self-inserting? Would the OEADs admin-kick me into oblivion? Am I using too many hyphens? parentheses?’
The answer to all these questions was ‘possibly’. Good enough for me. I began to write a very long post, heavily hyphenated and parenthetical, in order to ask you trusted, honest MBers a very short question: ‘Want me to base a character on you?’
Before you scream ‘OMGYES I HAVE ALWAYS WANTED TO BE IN ONE OF PENTY’S MAGNIFICENT STORIES’ (nice as that would be), I have a warning for you: It will be you, or someone very similar (name changed, obviously, and a few personality details tweaked), who will be in the magnificent story. You will not be perfect. You will be flawed. The character based on you will be put through some pretty heavy torment, and will respond how I imagine they would respond, not how you necessarily would if in the same situation.
This story is going to be very different from my usual fantasy fare. The characters will not have speshul magic powers. They will not run around kicking butt with swords. It will be a fairly realistic yarn, with quite a bit of gore. If you want to be in it because you think ‘you’ will get to make things explode, stop here.
If it’s as all possible, I’d like interested bloggers to contact me some other way about the whole debacle. Gaia, Pheebs’s HP site, Aebvoraena, Pheebs’s X-men site, or NationStates PMs/telegrams are preferable, simply because we have the chance of longer communication without conversation between other bloggers swirling in our midst. Still, if you’re not on any of these sites with me, post here a description of your personality and character, flaws and all. I want real people, not cardboard cutouts that are full of only positive traits, or negative ones with spin. If you can’t freely admit your shortcomings, stop now.
Thank you for getting through this horribly long (and possibly pointless) post. This project means a lot to me. So long, and thanks for all the fish.
197 (Sphinx)- I haven’t seen Phoenix hereabouts for quite a while. Her presence on the RRR and Writing threads is felt and missed.
Yes, Grima does call him that. It means that he comes with ill tidings and bad news, a harbinger of trouble.
ooh ooh! Another thing I can be proud of: We invented the internet, and we can bloody well take it back! XD
oh, very sorry. Didn’t know that about chain posting. I’ll stop.
lol, sorry The Skipper Nancy, I already met my internet twin. But let me ask you this, what does your dad do for a living? Because my dad is the nerdiest of all doctors: a neurologist. And the sad thing is, neurologist work on brain problems, but they’re not surgeons. (stupid spelling!!!) They’re not even cool enough to do that. And I’ll just stick with strawberry pie, thanks. (I’m not a big rhubarb fan. But don’t be alarmed, I also hate coffee and mint, so I’m a little freak when it comes to food.)
Mmm…banana cream. You know what’s sad? I had no idea how to spell banana untill that stupid gwen stafani song came out. That is how bad of a speller I am. And toodles being french is very interesing.
Oh don’t worry Elizabeth, the rest of my family noticed the same exact thing in HP.
Julieb, trust me. You’re not alone. I never would have been able to get through those books if my dad hadn’t read them to me. Though the world tokien created is pretty amazing, the books are quite slow-paced.
Yay! There’s a (I don’t mean any offense by this) band geek on here! I adore band geeks! My best friend is one, and another one of my friends goes to a special music school, so she’s like extreme band geek. She’s got chekoftzsky or whoever on her ipod.
unis were not made to run either, kiki. My best time is a 8:53.
Oooh, lilbro…WICKED IS AWESOME!
yay! cherry pie, my favorite! thanks emogrl!
Brave Sir Robin, 1) I love your name. And 2) I was in the musical Aladdin. So I’m not exactly sure what music you’re talking about, but if you need any help with the words, just ask. I was guard #2. It was a HUGE role.
frigidsymphony, I also have pro-eurpopean anti-american views. And I’m american!
*pats curious on the back* I’m very sorry. Sounds like a bad day.
aw kuai, people aren’t going to run around kicking butt with swords? Darnit. Well, since I’m extremley new on here and don’t know what Nano is, I think I’ll pass.
w00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000t!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just finished Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince last night!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Righteous, dude!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I feel bad for the guy with the giant spider. I hate Voldemort, like everyone in the cool but cruel world.
According to my friends, i’m anti-american because A-I don’t like french fries B-I don’t drink pop and C-I don’t watch TV. Ta daaaa
This was discovered at the band spread. Also discovered at the band spread was the sudden realization that the girls were all wearing suspenders and a bra, which cued much jumping around, squeeing, and singing the lumberjack song.
So last night was homecoming, and yes i’m going to rant about it. Mwahahahaha. Well first of all, i didn’t go home at all yestiddy, because i had crew right after skool until like 5. I was going to just walk to the spread too, cuz it was only a block away, but i needed my white shoes, so i called mom and she picked me up. Anyway, I was really tired, but it was still fun. The other band pwned us, except they used their music and their dance wasn’t NEARLY as good. They had capes though, which was pretty sweet, and they did one really cool move where they like walked around each other. And they thrusted, which is actually a key point of our band too. The parade wasn’t too bad, i kind of zoned out a bit actually. The lineup was kinda weird though because we had a line of four but then molly and carolynn left halfway through to join a line of two up ahead, which had been a line of three until somebody else had moved, and then stuart came so the line of three in front of us became a line of four, but then we had a line of two so then i asked supersneaky to move up into our line so of course when he did tony moved too and then everybody around us was like “TONY!!!! MOVE BACK!” so then we had two lines of three but then noah came and then supersneaky moved back again and noah moved up and it was rather confuzzling. Our band seems to have something against staying in their parade lines. Mostly because said lines are formed 2 secs before we march, in utter confusion. Anyhoo, we marched there, did pregame, waited for AGES while they announced the homecoming ppls. Schneids told us who Carlton Smith was (our field was the Carlton Smith field) so i found that out. twas good. Anyway, then we went back and i pretty much slept all through the first half. Not even kidding. Then we did halftime, and i ONLY MESSED UP ONCE!!! I was so happy. I messed up on the turn right before the dance and andy had to shove me forward but other than that i didn’t mess up! whee! And everybody marked time in the preset too, which was amazing. Anyhoo, then we went and got sugar, and sarah and i spent all of fourth quarter having an in depth talk about andy, who she likes, which was slightly awkward because he was sitting right there and we had to use an extensive amount of somewhat subtle hand gestures and lots of intense whispering. We spent most of the time going “what?” “huh?” “wait, what’d u say?” Then my mouthpiece got stuck again…i swear it’s cursed. It hates me. It gets stuck every week! whether from falling down, or just being put in too tight, or whatever. It’s always stuck.
So dance tonight, w00ty w00t! i’m going with Bob. XD Jacob’s going with Sarah’s pet rock, which he named Rocky. Other than that, everybody in our group’s human (I can’t really tell if Bob’s human, since i’ve never seen him. He probably is, but you can’t really assume anything) It’ll be lotsa fun and suchlike. wheeeee homecoming!
217- I know who you are now, Mithrandir. (or does that give it away?)
216- Certainly, you may. contact me through Nano if you want a longer conversation.
im back.
221- i dont watch tv
221: Anti-American? yeah, that sounds about right… YOU UNPATRIOTIC WUSS!!
(the above is a typical debate strategy used by Republicans. It’s their favourite, right after dogmatic bullshit and nonsensical sentences with loads of blinking)
Pass me the Stupid Hat. What’s NaNo?
I’m anti-American because gasp! I’m now Canadian?
Are you confused? Yeah, me too. That makes us even.
224-Fridgey, you forgot the thing about the weird moralization of irrational and evangelistic behavior! Dude, what were you thinking?
My SS teacher complimented me on my pronunciation of the word “chutzpah.” I love Yiddish English-the Tevye stories are the bomb.
Has anyone heard the new Al Yankovic song ‘White and Nerdy’? Describes us perfectly. Especially the parts about MontyP and the HG. Hey, that rhymes!
Haha. Next weekend I am going to a Halloween party as an Aztec sacrificial statue. Haha.
Anybody heard of Ok Go? It’s the BOMB!! Go look it up on YouTube.
I still haven’t decided if i’m going to do nano. I want to, but then i don’t. And i’ll probably fail anyway. But i might sign up just for the heck of it.
225-i havent heard it, but iwas under the impression that the person in that song wanted to “ride with the gangstas”
but idk.
197-whew. you havent been here for a looooooooong time. niether has pheonix. unless she changed her name to pheobe, whick is possible. in which cas e she hasnt been here in a much less long time.
221-yay! go anti-americans! ( i dont watch tv). and, what’s pop?
224-that reminds me, has anyone seen the movie dogma
very funny. but if ur religious, u probably shouldent see it, as you might be offended.
220-um….yay. good 4 u. your the 1053982578349754th person to finish the hp series.
186- me too!
I LOVE THE TREADMILL DANCE!!!! WUGAWUGAWUGAWUGA!!!!!!
sorry
230- the WHAT?!?
the WHAT?!?
(sorry if this turns out as a double post. we thought we submitted it but now we dont see it, so we’re doing it again)
i still dont see it. hmmm…. hope not technical problems again.
Juliette (225),
Nano = NaNoWriMo = National Novel Writing Month = November, when people all across the country (or even all around the world, for all I know) try to write 50,000-word novels. It has its own website. Very hard on one’s homework-completing capabilities, I hear.
219-Lol! I knew how to spell it, I just use it now to be sure.
I don’t feel like reading all the other posts, so I’ll just say something random…this is the random page, after all! So, what kind of pets does everyone have, if any? I have a dog, a cat, a bird, and a bunch of fish.
KZAP (216),
In your scenario, are the moderators of the online forum good, evil, both, neither, or nonexistent? Just curious.
(230) Wait, are you talking about that thing on UTube by OK Go? I love that!! It’s brilliant!!! Brilliant I say!
This is the random board, right? so I guess this is a random post.
Favorite page in october musemag: screamazon.eek.
Has anyone here read How to Survive a Robot Uprising ? the one they had an article on in Muse? I highly recommend it. (of course, if muse mentioned it, its bound to be good)
236 (OEAD)- I’m afraid I haven’t worked that out yet. Mostly harmless, I should say.
[Snipped information aimed at assisting extrablogular communication. We know some of you do it, but we do not encourage it and will not abet it. –Admin.]
I would like to say, for the record, that I am neither pro- nor anti- American. I simply am American. Yes, I would much rather live in Europe or Canada or Asia, but I’m here. What can I do about it? (Answers to rhetorical question: Protest. Demonstrate. Complain. Wait until I turn eighteen. Attempt to become an intelligent citizen.)
I’m a flaming liberal: more or less atheist, vegetarian, progressive, pro-science, anti-big-business, anti-war. Still, I’m able to recognize conservative campaign strategies as heavily moraltiy-based, appealing to the art of America that needs to be led by the hand to the poll booth and then have God move the puncher-thing. And guess what? They play on liberals as anti-American. Why? Because there are a few that are. I’m not saying that all of us are; if there’s anything I hate more than a generalization, it’s a generalization being used against someone, but they most definitely exist.
So when our share of gibbering idiots (plus the occasional enlightened businessperson or other rational Republican who’s not voting because of the propaganda) go to the polls, they think: “Oh, well liberals are anti-American. I can’t vote for one.” And they don’t. And the conservative candidate wins. And we’re stuck scratching our heads for another four years, wondering what we did wrong this time.
Hot Topics, anyone? *bows and exits*
Hey everyone, what are some songs that say Halloween to you? i’m trying to make some CD’s of halloween music. (don’t say stuff like monster mash, ghostbusters, etc etc. i have all the “staple” songs that everyone always thinks of. I’m more looking for obscure bands & lesser known but good songs.) holy crap, I’m so completely excited about halloween.
*pies the man for aeiou*
*hands pie politely to uni0000*
239-I want to read it but haven’t yet. There was an article on it in Wired too.
Museblog stopped working two days ago. I was reading a thread one minute, tried to post, it worked. Moved to another thread, tried to post, error. I didn’t have time yesterday.
YAAY for Ok Go!!! Mepepepepapapa!!! I like the treadmill dance and teh bckyard one equally.
240- okay, I thought I said this before but I can’t find my post now and so yeah: I’d like to be in the thingy. I’m not on any sites that you mentioned. So yeah.
237- lol, we watched a music video by them the other day in English. It was cool.
I’m being a Vulcan this Halloween. Only school picture day is Halloween, so I can’t dress up then. Maybe just the ears, during lunch. Pictures are before lunch for me.
Yeah, museblog’s been mostly off for me the past few days- I keep getting wordpress errors.
Our host company was having equipment problems again. I suspect sabotage by parents trying to force MBers to do their homework.
228- do it! it’s fun and I’m planning on not making it to 50,000 words either. Too much to do for that. but it’s worth it to do it anyways. plus you can always finish your novel in december or january. keep winter break in mind…
I’m going to do it, actually. It’s a good idea, and I need to kick my butt into writing a Team Emu novel, instead of just fourteen grillion silly short stories.
241-I’ll have to think about that one. Scary songs? Michael Jackson? I have a list of stalker songs…
43-I have no idea what you mean by that. Sorry, Fridgey. Could you explain it to me?
241: Immortal, Darkthrone, Dark Funeral, Funeral Mist, Lordi, Black Sabbath, Cradle of Filth, Children of Bodom, ecc…
and the only thing scary about michael jackson is how bad his singing is.
250: I mean i’m a guy. not a girl. you said ‘she’ when referring to me in an other post, so i decided to clear things up…
252- there doesn’t seem to be any easy way to tell if most MBers are male or female. there should be. it would make pronouns much easier.
(252),
Juliette may have been referring to The Skipper Nancy.
Ok, I haven’t been able to get on MB for a few days (Urg) so I finally managed to read the new(well, sort of) posts and here goes:
180- My sympathies. I am the most pathetic runner in the history of the world. Seriously, my best mile time was 11:45.
Thanks to everyone who supported me, and, sob, reassured my that I wasn’t alone. This is for you! (holds up invisible award while others eye her wearily, having seen much stranger things on MB)
216- OH! That sounds so cool! I would totally read it. I don’t know if I would want to be a character, but I would of course love it if I was, (continues in rambling praise, knowing that she has no idea what she’s talking about)
227- I love their song “Do What You Want.” It makes no sense, but it has a great beat or whatever music people call that rythymy thing.
252- We get it, your a guy. Sorry that a lot of people assume your a girl, but most MB’ers are. At least, I think they are.
hullo
I was going to visit for a little while, then I looked at some of the resent posts on this thread. I was reminded of why I left in the first place. Seriously. Can’t you guys keep your trashing of Republicans and evangelicals to your conversations with your buddies, or at the very least to Hot Topics? I know it doesn’t bother y’all to look through a thread and see numerous references to liberal politics, but it’s not something I really enjoy. Can’t you all be a little bit sensitive to the fact that liberals aren’t the only people on earth? This place is not the friendly internet hideout I discovered a year ago. I understand that the atmosphere is going to change with more people and more posts, but can’t y’all think before you post? Gosh.
Sorry this rant was so rant-ish. This stuff is just one of my pet peeves.
238-I love your name!
RAAAANDOOOOMNESSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
MY TOP JOBS
President of the United States
Volcanologist
Prosecuting attorney
Aerobatics Pilot
Astronaut
Scotland Yard Police Officer in a funny hat
257- Exactly. See post #202.
I’ll check up on this NaNo thing, I’m already writing a novel, so I might as well enter.
MG (257),
Welcome back, however briefly.
I’ve reread the thread and honestly don’t see much political content here at all. Out of almost 300 posts, only two or three even mention politics. There are two references to Republicans, one of which describes at least some of them as “rational,” and one reference to “evangelistic behavior” (which may or may not refer to evangelical Christianity). “Hot Topics” may be another story, but I’d say that the prevailing tone on the random thread is, well, randomness. And I know that no one on the blog is unfriendly to you personally. As far as I can tell (and I read almost everything that goes up here), you are universally liked, admired, and missed.
261-Only you, Robert.
261- this is starting to sound a bit like an obit…
Heck yes, we love you monty! ♥ Come baaaaaack…
I am most definitely saved. w00t! I thought i was so screwed…i left my backpack in the band room on friday and our chapt. 9 notes for history are due tomorrow. If you don’t do your history notes you A-fail the quiz B-get way behind and almost certainly don’t catch up in a hurry and C-do badly on the test because all your notes were done in a rush at the last minute. Fortunately, celia saved my oh-so-screwed grade by making me a copy. Then she put a Wonderful japanese sticker on it. It made me feel very special. I also have to dig up some graph paper for science, but other than that i think i’m ok. Whew!
Oh, i’m also officially banned from the comp for today so i’d better go. Just remembered that. Heh. Whoops.
Hey look it’s Kokopelli! Except he’s called “Maahu”. Go read the story of Maahu. Unless a GAPA deletes the link. (come on it’s an LA Times link)
http://www.latimes.com/features/kids/readingroom/
by the way start with part one at the bottom and go up to part 2, then part 3, etc.
sorry to double post
Okay, I’ve been really busy lately and you guys have posted so much while I was gone, it took me forever to read them all, but I did.
171- I didn’t like LOTR either, just the movies
174- I hate frisbees, my brother throws them hard and I can’t catch them, I can’t throw them either
180- I can’t run either, last time we did the mile run the teacher said we get full credit if we made it in under 15 minutes, so I walked the whole way and still made it. I find it ironic that you (kiki) hate to run and Kiki is my gym teacher’s name
221- I had homecoming the same night as you, I stayed after to help with a chicken BBQ and was there until 8:30, so I spent 13 hours in that school and didn’t ever leave it, not even for gym.
235- pets, Shadowkat- I guess it’s evident from my posts on the PPP thread that I have cows. I have 9 bred heifers, one steer, one bull, and I got the cutest little Jersey calf in he world yesterday at an auction. She’s 2 months old and I can walk her like a dog because she’s so cooperative. I love her!!!!!! I also have a rabbit, lots of cats (barn cats), 3 pigs, and over 100 chickens. I guess it’s obvious that I live on a farm, huh?
#241: Cloud Nine – Evanescence
Tetragrammaton, Viscera Eyes – The Mars Volta
To the End – My Chemical Romance
Bat Country – Avenged Sevenfold
Watching Things Die – Tool
(265) As it’s to the Los Angeles Times, I’ll permit the link.
269- Thank you GAPA!!!
read the stupid story about Maahu (Kokopelli). Now! Go!
241-Cradle of Filth totally. but i listen to it all the time. guess im just strange. espesially vampire. (the song.) might creep out a bit (or a lot). thats the idea tho, right?
AHH!!! It is me!! DAW! Anyway who’s new wait.. I can see that…Anything new in museica?
WHAT’CHA GONNA BE FOR HALLOWEEN!?!?!?!
Goes to read stupid story…
261- Yes Robert. You’re right. I’m sorry. I’ve been wondering about some changes in my life, trying to get a grasp on what direction I’m going. I took out my frustrations on y’all, and that was wrong. That said, I wish the randomness in the random thread would stay away from all politics and religion, but that’s just me. And I guess that I must’ve just happened upon the only political comments while scanning, because I sure thought that the percentage of them on here was a lot higher than what you said they were. But I am sorry. I also wish I could come back, but it’s not going to work right now. Y’all have the best of fun in MB land.
Thanks, MontgomeryGurl. We’ll do our best to have as much fun as possible. Meanwhile, you take care of yourself, y’hear? Calo anor na ven.
273-wow. very… dark.
not that big of a deal…..
lol
srry bout that. just seemed over the top for me.
also, inteligent people, (as we are) talk about politics, because it is important. thats life.
274- Ah, yes, live on MB. Maybe after my life settles down a little bit I’ll come back to the randomness.
275- It probably was over the top. I don’t know. I’m not good at evaluating myself right at this second. Sorry if it was melodramatic, I just like to do a thorough job of apologizing. It’s not that I mind the political talk, it’s just the fact that there’s a place on the blog for that, and I really don’t see why it has to be on the random thread. But I’m not really here, so I don’t guess I don’t exactly have a say.
267- I LOVE CHICKENS! I used to have twelve! You probably have not guessed that I live in an apartment!
This is my first post ever and I’m not sure if I’m doing this right or if this’ll work.
My birthday is in six days. I am turning 12. Like the number of chickens I had.
Welcome Isabella! *sends welcome pie to Isabell* I’m sure you’ll fit in just fine. BTW, you may be recieving an unsually large number of pies soon.
Oh, and great moderating GAPAs!
Hello Musebloggers! I’m stopping by to remind you all that November is National Novel Writing Month and thousands of participants from all around the world are going to spend the month of November writing novels. Yes, entire novels. Basically, it’s a rocking good time: you get to chat with really interesting people, learn a lot about writing and feel really really accomplished when you finish!
Interested? Go to NaNoWriMo’s webpage (google it, yo) and sign yourself up.
oooo. My keyboard has a little button on it labeled “internet” that takes me onto the internet when I press it. YAY!
*pies Isabella with pineapple pie* Welcome! I love the name Isabella.
(276) Of course you have a say, MG! It’s not like your withdrawal from the MB exiled you forever or something. And I agree with you. There enough politics and religion everywhere these days without it being dragged onto our happy little romps of randomness on the random thread. It’s nice to see you back! And no worries, everyone is entitled to being frusterated sometimes. *lots of happy toast vibes for MG*
On a lighter foot, I got a really cool bag at an organic co-op. It is loose weave and sherbet orange. Plus I finished my essay at like 3 today which gave me the rest of the day to laze about. And best of all….
IT RAINED!!
Hello all! I went to my cabin in Tahoe this weekend, and it was very nice taking hikes under all the pretty aspen. Anyway…
Ebeth the Stalker, I don’t like french fries either. They’re greasy and just plain potatoes are much better. I can’t imagine not watching tv, because I’m addicted to Grey’s Anatomy, Gilmore Girls, Criminial Minds, and CSI. Yes, I am sad. Huh. Our highschool doesn’t have a marching band or even a band, but it’s california and football is nowhere near as big of a deal as waterpolo. And I can’t imagine having a marching band at waterpolo. Actually, I can, and it’s a very amusing image. The band would get wet and slide and someone playing a tuba would fall in the pool. I don’t know why I said tuba, it’s just a funny word. Like poodle. And oi. And I better shut up now, because I’m about to use a gilmore reference. Oooh, I have a giant stuffed snake I got when I was three and I named it snakey. Your friend should join my creative namers united club.
Oh, frigid symphany, somehow your comment about republicans reminded me of the last time bush did a speech and the democrats had I think what you call a rebutle. The guy who did the rebutle did an ok speech I guess, but I wasn’t really paying attention because of his eyebrow. Yes, his eyebrow. See every time he would make an important point (which was often), he would raise his eyebrows. Problem was, the right one would go back down while the left one stayed up. It would just stay there, every so slowly inching down, and when it finally went back to normal he would make another important point, and up would shoot that eybrow. I was cracking up the entire speech, and my parents are both doctors, so they were trying to diagnose him, saying he might have had a stroke or something. We were having such a good time that my mom forgot to throw grapes and chaney’s bald head.
Omg Queenie, the song white and nerdy is HALARIOUS! It describes my friends perfectly. But not me of course. I’m too cool. I read Muse.
Oh, lol, I did the Nano without knowing it. My novel is…um…well it’s at least 50,000 words, but our computer got stolen with the novel on it, but luckily I had printed out a version, so I’m busy scanning it and won’t know how many words it is till we finish scanning. I don’t know why I wrote a novel, I just did, and I hoped to get it published, but we all know how high the chances of that are.
Shadowkat, I have two dogs. One is 14 years old and is part lab, part we don’t know what. She’s still plenty hyper for her age. The other is 1 year old and is part australian sheperd, part rotrieller. She’s the biggest spaz ever, but she’s SOO CUTE. They’re both pound puppies, because pound puppies rule.
aw, thanks curious. I’ve never got handed a pie politely before. Well, at least not on the internet.
omg elizabeth, my friend would die with jelousy. She adores cows.
Otzi, I want your keyboard! That’s SOO COOL! I love pressing random buttons and seeing what they do. It’s an impulse.
Ok, so two random things. One, has anybody here seen Wishbone? It was this show from the point of view of this cute little dog, and he always connected things in his life to famous novels. And he wore cute little outfits. I’m just bringing this up because at my cabin I found three tapes entirely of recorded wishbones, and I can’t help but wonder what happened to that brilliant show. And two, now that people are talking about novels I have the urge to rant about mine, but most people could probably care less. Someone mentioned the fact that you can talk to people privately on here, so if anyone wants to hear about my novel, do that to me. I’m not much of a computer person, if you haven’t figured that out.
Nice to have you back on the blog, MG. I’m sorry if any of my posts seemed like conservative-bashing to you; I’m afraid that half of what I say seems to have hidden connotations that I don’t notice. (Unless I’ve proofread it or something.)
282 (uni)- Ah, but did you write that novel in a month? Welcome, my friend, to NaNo.
By the way, it would be simply lovely if you’d let me rip your precious work to shreds hone my critiquing skills. Obviously, if you don’t want to that’s more than all right, and there is certainly no pressure to do so. Nevertheless, here’s the Writing thread. Discussion of NaNo could probably live there as well, in consideration of those among us who might rather not be regaled with tales of sleep-deprived nights and salivating at the sound of the word ‘November’.
NO SKOOL TODAY!! Or at least for me.
282-I remember Wishbone! When I was really little, (and when we had a tv that worked) I was obsessed! Except whenever things got scary (even a teensy-eensy bit) I would go hide. I was not brave then, and I am not brave now.
*is chicken*
282- I used to watch Wishbone, when I was really little, and we had a black and white TV, I don’t remember much but that I thought the name Wanda was funny.
Shhhh… I am at school at computer app!*pies Isabella with pie* I don’t know any kind. Obvusiously I am in school right now so not gonna respond to anything until I get home. I am gonna check tht NaNo thing about now.
WISHBONE *sticks tongue out* I have the halloween adventure book MWHAHAHA!!
More importantly who remembers the Anamaniacs?
or Gumbee?
My teacher last year was obsessed with gumbee.
I am not liking science sadly. It’s pyshics and I have a 4 inch binder for one subject… How crazy!!!
Well class is over in 4 minutes so I am signing off for now. Bye ya’all!
DAW
257-Monty!!! Nooooooooooooo!!! Come back! Please! We promise to be good, and we won’t trash anyone, and and we’ll barricade ourselves in the HT thread until we have no political prejudices left. Please come back? Please? I have no one to argue with now. All alone, friendless, and without companionship, I shall wander in the dark corners of the Blog until my lonely death in a cranny of the world, forgotten by humankind. Oh! oh! oh woe, woe, woe…
Well, fine. Be that way. Jeez. Gawd, Monty.
264-Good luck! We’ll see you soon…
I just uncovered my budgie. He’s making a racket. And I mean NOIZE. (Slade fans, stick it out!)
279- Done.
*pies Isabella* Ypu’re doing fune. Just post whatever comes to you’re mind here, or go to somewhere more specific to discuss in greater detail.
The main character in a book I just read was named Isabell. it was called twilight. Very good book. I didn’t like the sequil, new moon as much. But oh well.
Hey MG! Nice to see you around. I feel so old, with all the people who joined after me here and the scarcity(somewhat) of older peeps. Wow.
No school today. Which reminds me that I should see if the school computers block Museblog. Only if they don’t I won’t ever eat lunch because of my Museblog addiction and the computer lab. The first step is admitting you have a problem…
Random: Last night I put all these cool posters in my room. One was of a Calder sculpture(is that the right word?), another was of one of the Unicorn Tapestries, and the last was about photonics. I also had a dream that anyone who was in the musical last year was automatically given a part, which made me happy I had a part but sad because if they had done that last year, I woudn’t have been in the musical. But it was only a dream.
Do any of you guys ever check out rate my teachers .com? That’s the url. It’s so cool. You can rate your teachers and see other student’s ratings.
This week is supposed to be color war in my school. I can’t wait!
its a Calder mobile.
We have a musical in school this year and I REALLY WANT TO GET IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
*pies world*
*pies everyone who ducked the first time*
I feel welcome!
*pies herself*
She’s ba-aaaaack!
Woo hoo hoo, have I got a tale for you-all bloggers. To make a long story short, during one of the last weeks of school my dad came up to me at lunch, where I was eating with my friends (Zyviva, Lusifer Ink and Sphinx, for those who don’t know) and said, “Hi, Tree. We’re moving to Canada.”
SO, I suddenly found myself without internet connection for most of the summer, and by the time I was able to go online I was in my new Canadian school and had waaay too much work to post. Well, Sphinx emailed me last night and COMMANDED me to go back on, and I said, wow, haven’t been on in AGES. So I’m back.
I really hope you-all remember me. For those who don’t, I’m a First-Generation blogger who enjoys classic rock, vanilla ice cream, and the law. I speak English and Hebrew fluently, dabble in German and Arabic, and am now learning French. My favorite Muse is Chad, my favorite colors are red, black, blue, green, gray, and gold, and my black hair has grown since I last posted–it’s now past the middle of my back.
Anyway, I missed everyone–but here I am again!
294-Phoenix!!! *pies* Welcome back!
You moved to Canada? Wow. Sveet. You like it?
PHOENIX! HI! oooooh we missed you soooooooo much!!!!!!!!! *hugs phoenix*
Good song: Misirlou. I was watching Pulp Fiction yesterday, possibly one of the weirdest movies ever but still cool, and actually bothered to look up and download the sweet song in the opening credits.
Calder mobiles are cool Me likes them.
Gak. I just got back from the orthodontist and got bunches of stuffs done. And my sister, Anna (Taiwan Hippo Fan/I forget what her new name is…something to do with Athena or something) got braces today! Lucky her.
294- yay! Welcome back!
So, why isn’t mole day on the calendar?
I hearby declare this a day of joyous celebration as we welcome Phoenix back into our mists.
if any one has a good name for this amazing day, i would love to hear it.
thank goodness you’re back. i actually had to post “were all musers here” once because you weren’t there to do it.
294- YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I missed yo u a ton! You’re back!!!!! How’s Canda! *pies Pheonix with a welcome back pie then hugs her*
276- MG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don’t worry, you can have a say! of course you can! you’re still a MBer. Just remember that no matter what happens I support you and I think most people here do too.
and that’s the end of the exclamation points. tada. (see, no exclamation point)
*pies Isabella*
#294: Lucky lucky you. Canada rocks socks.
Welcome back!!
I haven’t written anything for fun in such a long time…I did write a sci-fi/fantasy two yrs ago though. It was okay…maybe 20,000 words. Maybe I could try submitting it to the NaNoWriMo thingie.
*pies elassë~adael*
*begins licking off the pie on her face*
does anyone have an interesting random fact? (All you Bo fans out there)
I just joined nano. Don’t know what i was thinking, but oh well. My screenname is fairly obvious, so i won’t bother trying to slip it past the ever-vigilant GAPA
303- How about, um, oh yeah. Elvis Presley wore three necklaces, a cross, a star of david, and a chai symbol, because he “didn’t want to not get into heaven on a technicality”
Or that not remembering the word you want to use is called “lethologica”
Or that right handed people tend to live longer than lefties?
I could go on and on…
OMG, it’s only the 9th and we’re already over 300 posts. Wow.
287-i think you arguing with her was the reason she left. just a hought,
not you specifically of course.
282- how exactly did your computer get stolen?
someone broke into your house? cool! or not….
300-day of pheonixian celebration.
nooooooooo
MUST… STOP….PROCRASTINATION…..
ahhhhhh!
*gets eaten by homework monster*.
Thanks for the link Kuai! And good point, I didn’t write my novel in a month. But it took two months alone to plan, and I think that if I had written it in a month, it wouldn’t have been nearly as good. Then again, it would have been super cool to say I wrote it in a month. You can of course critique my writing, and truly, you can’t rip it to shreds more than I have. But I have to finish scanning it onto the computer, and not being much of a technology person, that may take awhile.
Lol common loon, I was watching wishbone this afternoon and it was the one where they get stuck in the barn and it catches on fire. I was freaking out, and I’m 13. I was like, “Ahh! It’s on fire! GOO WISHBONE!!!!” Then my dog gave me this weird look, like, “Um…my name’s Ariel.” It was pretty intense.
Omg, GUMBEE!!! Wow, that show almost beats wishbone. If I had three tapes with hours of episodes, it probably would beat it. But alas, any gumbee tapes were probably over-taped with carmen sandiego, if any of you remember that show. And I have the wishbone odessey computer game. It’s quite hard.
Jadestone, isn’t twilight and new moon about vampires? If so, two of my friends are obsessed with those books.
ooooh, curious, I saw the unicorn tapestries. They’re very cool. So you do musicals? Me too! I’ll be in school house rock this year (I know, kinda lame) and then alice in wonderland the play in the spring.
Achoo, I am sooo checking that site out. And you should be on purple’s side, if that’s what a color war is. Purple pwns all.
Hello pheonix. I don’t know you, but bonjour anyway! And how do you like canada? Because I went last year, and I liked it alot more than america. Except when you got to parts where it stayed light super late. That was weird.
HAHAHAHAHA! Ok, dark lord of darkness, you make me laugh. Alot. It’s not that I’m mad at you or anything for thinking it’s cool that my house got broken into, it’s just really funny. We came back from a backpacking trip and 5 hour car ride to find the glass in our front door broken. They took jewlrey (not mine, they saw the harry potter board game and giant stuffed snake in my room and didn’t even bother), my dad’s palm piolet with credit card info, and our computer. We called the police and after like an hour, in the middle of them filling out a report, my dad goes, “Where’s the red car?” And we’re all like, “Oh. Huh. Crap.” It was sooo funny, in a really sad way. Like how the crucible is funny. (we’re watching/reading that in core) So anyway, that’s how it got stolen. But no biggie, at least, not anymore.
I must ask because all you people seem so intelligent…what do you think of Eragon and Eldest? I won’t post my opinion untill others post theirs, because I don’t want to imtimidate or anything.
Here goes the longest comment ever written.
282- Wishbone was the coolest thing ever. I used to watch that all the time, until they stopped showing it on PBS. Anytime I pick up a classic book, I try to remember the Wishbone synopsis so I can tell if it’s something I want to read or not (sad, I know). My mom will often wonder aloud what a book is about, and I’ll rattle off everything I know about it from Wishbone. It’s impressive.
294- Phoenix!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’ve missed you terribly. Canada? That sounds slightly random. How do you like it? My only knowledge of Canada is that they frequently send us cool air masses, so I’m forever grateful to them.
297- Pulp Fiction is definitely the strangest movie ever. I watched most of it the other day, and it was so incredibly bizarre, yet so amazing, I couldn’t stop watching it. It had some really hilariously off the wall scenes.
276- I have a say? Wow, I feel so special. No one gives me a say anywhere, especially not in internetland. It’s not that I don’t want politics to be on MB at all, it’s just that politics are something I care a lot about, so I know that if I start talking about them at all on here I’m soon going to be in a huge argument with someone. It’s not that I mind that, I just like to be able to control when I talk about politics with MBers, which is much easier when those type of posts are on Hot Topics.
283- Hey Pentatonikk! I haven’t talked to you in forever. I’ve missed your intelligent voice, even if it was usually in opposition to mine. I want to have a huge debate with you sometime when I have time to type out fifty drafts of an argument, each one seething with passion and rage and completely inappropriate for post on the blog, and then go outside and jump on the trampoline for half an hour before I can come in and censor the least offensive of the drafts to where it’s postable. That would be so awesome! (I’m being serious) Oh, can I be a character in your novel thing (216) or is it too late? If you need a character let me know, and I’ll post my complete personality profile.
287- Queenie J, you are so awesome. I’ve missed you, even if you did always have that annoying habit of being light years smarter than me. Sometime we can have a great big blowout argument of the same sort I’m going to have with Pentatonikk. Ah, those lovely days when we were constantly redefining the phrase “heated debate”. It was so wonderful. When I’m ready to have a huge argument with everyone, I’ll come back for an extended period of time. That’ll be fun.
289- There definitely seems to have been a shift in the prevailing generation since I was here. It’s kind of sad, actually.
301- Hey! Y’all are always so nice to me. It’s honestly completely beyond my comprehension. Maybe I’m nicer online than in my own head, because the MG I know is not someone I want to be around.
307- Oh no, it wasn’t the arguments I minded. It was the random comments, the things that offended me that had no basis. The debates where we lined out our positions and talked until we’d gone over every possible angle were so incredibly fun. It just killed me when things got to the point where no one was debating thoughtfully anymore. And the blog wasn’t as fun as it used to be.
wheee!
i get to post my anti-chris paolini essay!
actually, it was writtien for skool, but w/e
I do not like Christopher Paolini. Of course, I have my reasons; I do not just randomly dislike an author. When he wrote his books, (Eragon, and Eldest), he was extremely young, so he has gotten a lot of attention. Eragon was first published by the author’s parents’ publishing company, and only later discovered by one editor at Knopf and re-edited and repackaged and re-released under that imprint. This shows that, this book was not really fit to be published in the first place. Christopher Paolini, in his own words, describes his story thus: “Eragon is an archetypal hero story, filled with exciting action, dangerous villains, and fantastic locations. There are dragons and elves, sword fights and unexpected revelations, and of course, a beautiful maiden who’s more than capable of taking care of herself.” To me, this sounds like a modern adventure fantasy, placed in Tolkien’s world.
Some similarities between Eragon and Tolkien (Or, how Paolini got his setting and style from Tolkien).
Pretty, complex map on inside cover.
Flowery language.
Elves are fair, beautiful, long-lived people who speak a seperate language.
Dwarves are short, stocky, bearded people who wear chain mail and use axes.
Dragons breathe fire.
Creatures called Urgals are fairly uncomfortable with the sun and speak a guttural language, though there are the “elite” forms of these which don’t seem to mind the sun and have multiple times the strength and endurance.
All swords seem to have names.
All of these things are in Tolkien, but very cleverly, Paolini has decided to change the name of Ogres to Urgals, and combine them with orks, getting the “elite†form, which in Tolkien is an uruk-hai.
It seems like a combination of Tolkien and George Lucas’s Star Wars.
First there’s the whole Luke Skywalker(The hero of Star Wars) thing; Eragon (the main character of Eragon) comes to terms with his identity as a Dragon Rider and leaves his homeland in the company of a mysterious stranger who knows too much and can train him. (Obi-Wan-Kenobi in Star Wars, and Brom in Eragon). Of course, this Obi-Wan, has to die as well, very tragically. Because he is needed to help sort through some secret information, Eragon is taught how to read. In a week. Yeah. He learns the ancient magic language similarly easily, and though he was only taught it for the purpose of using magic, he is still somehow able to have a complex conversation with an elf using only that language. He understands her directions to an unfamiliar place. Is this really possible? Maybe if Eragon had extraordinary brain powers, he would be able to understand. However, he is not described as particularly intelligent.
Overall, I just think that this book was written as though it had a template or blueprint for “traditional fantasy novel” and the details and names were simply filled in. I think that in order to write something so traditional, a writer needs something special, a unique twist or slant, and Eragon just hasn’t got it.
One writer that has got it, is David Eddings. David Eddings, has written a real epic fantasy, The Belgariad, one that slowly and skillfully develops into a final battle between the main character and an evil god. (In other words, I’m not saying that writing an “archetypal fantasy epic” is bad; I’m saying that it needs to not be a rehashing of overused themes that were invented–not derived from mythology or legend, but invented–by classic writers and filmakers, such as Tolkien and George Lucas.)
Christopher Paolini needs to get some of his own ideas for the plot of his next book.
whee!
309-ok!
sorry for confuzzlement
Dark lord of darkness, you are truly awesome. You basicly spelt out everything I have to say, only in a neat little essay and not some huge ramble no one will read. If you haven’t already, I seriously suggest you go to anti-shurtgal.com. Or it’s something like that. Just type in anti Eragon into google and you should get it. It’s an entire website devoted to why paolini is a snob and why the inheritance series isn’t all it’s made out to be. Eragon is like some nerdy teenage boy’s fantasy come to life. The main character, as you pointed out, becomes wonderful at everything in a matter of months, he falls in love with a gorgeous girl in leather, and he gets a dragon. I mean COME ON. Could his life be more perfect? Then he gets a scar at the end of book one and is like, “Oh no! I’m not pretty anymore!,” but the scar turns out to be oober cool, so it’s all good. Ugh. But truly, Eragon just falls into a pattern most books fall into, which I call the legend of Xanth.
At my sister’s highschool three of her friends wrote, directed, and preformed in a thirty minute play. It was called the legend of Xanth, and made fun of fantasy books/movies, as well as people in my sister’s school. There was the basking young teenage hero who was attractive, an orphan, and of course set out to stop the evil guy. He also wore tights *ahem* leggings! *ahem* (sorry, joke from the show) and had an ambigulously gendered furry woodland creature who was forever faithful, always optimistic, and followed him around everywhere. Basicly, he had a sam from lotr, with a little more fur. Ok, then there was also an elven warrior princess, who taught the mc things about the forest and magic. (in the play she thought he was a girly idiot and was very sarcastic, but I’m just giving the basics) Now then there was Zorgan (muahahaha!), who was doing horrible things to the kingdom, though the script never specificly mentions what. He was your basic evil guy in black, and had an emo son who wrote poems about how he hated his father. (ok, he was just funny.) Zorgon also had an evil temptress working for him, and she was sent to tempt the mc and lead him into a trap. She was of course wearing a ridiculously tight dress and was a total flirt. (My lovely sister, who else?) She disguised herself as a milkmaid and the mc fell in love with her, abandoning his friends. He was lead into a trap, but right before the trap the evil temptress confessed that she had fallen in love with him and what she was doing. Basicly she got captured by Zorgon and the mc had to face him without the help of his friends. But *gasp*, Zorgon had invisible fire balls! Luckily, the elven warrior princess gave the mc berries to give him invisible fireball powers. Zorgon and him fought, and thanks to people escaping and things, the furry woodland creature sacrificed him/herself for the mc. It ended with them all (except Zorgon, who was dead, and his son, who he killed) trying to find a way to bring the creature back to life. Oh, and it was all narrated by a guy with an afro and a fuzzy pink bathrobe.
Now the reason I tell you all this is because every book is a legend of xanth in some way. Let’s face it, no book doesn’t have at least one of these characters or plot elements. Even books I love like…uh…ok, really bad example but my brain isn’t working, harry potter, have many plot elements. Heck, my book has almost all of these! It’s not that it’s a bad thing, it’s just that you need twists. Like the furry woodland creature character could betray the mc. Or the evil temptress could…uh…well, nvrm on that one. There’s only so much you can do with an evil temptress. But the evil guy could come around, or be insane, or the elven warrior princess could double as the evil guy *gasp!*, or of course you can have many characters that aren’t in here. The problem with eragon is the fact that it doesn’t branch off from this at all.
basking young hero – Eragon
furry woodland creature (faithful friend of mc) – Saphira
elven warrior princess – Brom
Zorgon – Galbitorax? Sorry, the names in this thing confuzzle me.
emo son – I forget his name, but the dude who was one of the evil guy’s dragon riders, and is the father of eragon’s friend.
evil temptress (or love interest) – that leather-wearing vegan elf
narrarator with afro and fuzzy pink bathrobe – Paolini (:D)
Basicly, my point is that Eragon is unnoriginal. Many books today are unnoriginal. And yes, I could have just let Dark lord of darkness tell you that, but I’m in a rambling mood. And come on, admit it, you enjoyed hearing about the Legend of Xanth.
err…umm…what’s going on?…can’t understand anything about the last two posts…must…light…match…KA-BOOM!!!!!!!!!!!
There! With all of that cleared up, I–hmm…What next?
More explosions??
308- I love every book I’ve ever read. It’s my policy to never not finish a book. But I could not get through Eldest. I LOVE the LOTR (that’s the abbreviation for lord of the rings, riight?) Somehow, as dark lord of darkness pointed out, they are incredibly similar. But the language in Paolini’s books is flat. Flat and boring. Eragon I barely scraped by, but Eldest was too much. I’m sort of jealous of the author, so I might be a little biased. I mean, getting published so young. Even though his parents where first to publish it.
NO SKOOL TODAY!!!!!!!!! Professional Development Day.
*pies Paolini with Porcupine Pie*
Okay. One: Yes, I like Canada (or Canadia, as it shall now be called) but it is FREEZING. The leaves first began to turn colors in AUGUST. Not making that up.
Uni0000: That play sounds soooooo funny…have any of you-all read the Evil Overlord’s Guide? I need to supply a link. If links are still allowed, that is.
And now. I HATE ERAGON!!!
Really old Bloggers will remember the mock trial I held proving beyond all doubt that Eragon was a TOTAL COPY of The Belgariad by David Eddings. Okay. And I have a new piece to offer.
In Eldest, does everyone remember the scene where the Gold dragon-rider peep is teaching Eragon how to use his magic? I don’t own the book, so I can’t quote word for word, but I CAN quote word for word from a corresponding scene in The Belgariad. Get out your copies of Eldest and hang onto your hats:
Garion has just been practicing the intentional use of his sorcery. He tried to lift a giant boulder and ended up pushing himself neck-deep into the soft ground. The sorcerer Belgarath, is now showing him how to put the rock back.
Belgarath looked narrowly at him. “You’ve got a strange sort of mind, boy. You understand the difficult things quite easily, but you can’t seem to get hold of the simple ones. There’s the rock.” He shook his head. “Put it back where it belongs, and try not to make so much noise this time. The racket you raised yesterday echoed all over the Vale.”
“What do I do?” Garion asked.
“Gather in the force,” Belgarath told him. “Take it from everything around.”
Garion tried that.
“Not from me!” the old man exclaimed sharply.
Garion excluded his grandfather from his field of reaching out and pulling in. After a moment or two, he felt as if he were tingling all over and that his hair was standing on end. “Now what?” he asked, clenching his teeth to hold it in.
“Push out behind you and push at the rock at the same time.”
“What do I push at behind me?”
“Everything–and the rock as well. It has to be simultaneous.”
“Won’t I get–sort of squeezed in between?”
“Tense yourself up.”
“We’d better hurry…” Garion said, “I feel like I’m going to fly apart.”
“Hold it in. Now put you Will on the rock, and say the Word.”
Garion put his hands out in front of him and straightened his arms. “Push,” he commanded. He felt a surge and the roaring.
With a resounding thud, the rock teetered and then rolled back smoothly to where it had been the morning before. Garion suddenly felt bruised all over, and sank to his knees in exhaustion…
Okay. Does everyone now see what a copy Eragon is? Paolini even ADMITTED in an interview a while ago that The Belgariad is his favorite book. So he rips it off. I also add this for your consideration:
Garion and Princess Ce’Nedra, a Dryad, are sitting by the banks of a river. She offers to tell his fortune, but is astounded at the WHITE MARK ON HIS PALM.
She turned his hand over and looked at it. The silvery mark on his palm was very plain now that the skin was clean. “Whatever is that?” she asked.
“I don’t know.”
“It’s not a disease, is it?”
“No,” he said, “…I think it has something to do with my family. Aunt Pol doesn’t like people to see it for some reason, so she tries to keep it hidden…”
Plus, we have the “stupid yound hero living with his aunt”. We have the “mysterious storyteller coming to him and taking him away from his home and becoming his mentor and turning out to be a legendary sorceror.” we have the “hero becoming a legendary protector of the peace whose return is prophesized.” We have the “intelligent loyal companion”. We have the “magic sword inherited from predecessor.” we have an immense preoccupation with the color blue. We have the beautiful, desirable princess with raven hair who is FIVE THOUSAND YEARS OLD. We have the guy who can talk to horses. We have the bad guy as a “black dragon lord”. All of these aspects, and many more, are ripped off by Eragon from The Belgariad. I rest my case.
Say it together now: WE’RE ALL MUSERS HERE!!! But he isn’t! So…*pies Christopher Paolini*
I’m going to pie the book-or-whatever because I can’t understand what’s going on! Ha! You’ve all managed to confuzzle me! So- *pies christopher paolini*
316- I remember the trial you had. Now every time someone recommends Eragon to me, I tell them it’s ripped off. I always feel incredibly special.
And again, I’m still confuzzled! *piepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepiepie*
*everything wiped out*
I received a gift subscription last November, so I received the November/December, February, March, April/May, June, July/August, September, and October issues. They stated that the October issue was the last, but I never received a January issue. I was just wondering whether or not I would be receiving another issue or not. Mr. GAPA, do you know why?
pwt pwns
How can you become a GAPA?
ð!!!!! (no idea what that means)…
I think it’s a chicken…
I have a question…who was the very first person to ever post on MuseBlog?
316- Me and my friends ahve this imaginary universe made up of components from many fantasy books, and we *pretend* that we are part of it and interact with the characters. Eragon is part of that universe, and I feel bad insulting it because my friends really like it. I’ve never read it, and don’t plan to.
Has anyone seen the Apple Mac/PC ads? They are so dang hilarious.
325-the chairman, wasn’t it?
I got bored in latin to day and drew over my hand. Twas good. Oh but big news of the day! Some idiot lit a roll of tp on fire and threw it in the trash in the boy’s bathroom during lunch, so we all had to go outside and mill around, confuzzled, while they got rid of it. I was in the science hallway talking to sarah and josh when it went off, so i just left my stuff and went out to the front. I think most people went around to the football fields, but there were a good number in the front. We found bill there and had an interesting discussion that got us many strange looks and is basically summarized as this…
Bill: The world is my whore
Me+Sarah: Totally.
Sarah: Dan should be emo for halloween
Me+Bill: He already is.
Bill: No, he should be my whore
Me: He already is.
Me: But we could dress him in drag again
Sarah: OMG we have to go thrifting!
*Featherstone wanders by w/coke can*
Me: Featherstone! What’s with the coke can?! My image of you is shattered! Where’s the coffee?
Featherstone: Oh, it’s ok, my coffee’s inside. This is just for lunch. You can see the evidence of the stains *looks around on shirt for stains*
Bill: I am totally getting you a sippy cup for christmas!
Featherstone: Thanks
*featherstone wanders off again*
*police drive up*
Sarah: I bet somebody pulled the alarm
Me: That’s stupid, why would somebody do that?
Bill: Well some people are stupid
*we wander back in*
Everybody: WHAT HAPPENED?
Modder (he was our sub and i despise him with a bitter passion but fortunately he didn’t talk much, we just went and watched a video about the Andros Island trip): I don’t know, you guys were outside where it happened, why don’t YOU know?
*five min later*
Ok stop the rumours, somebody lit tp on fire and threw it in the trash. Happy?
That’s why i hate him. Well, one reason. Turns out he was right, because quite honestly i didn’t believe him at first.
Everybody at our skool’s such a pyro. Like last year, when the kids set the football field on fire…oh man…
And then doc tells stories about fires. Wheee! Yay for latin.
feathers costume is an inspiration.
~agrrrl, Qudrant 5, Sector 4, blah blah bla-ah-ah-aaaaaaaaaaah
(I do not sign off all of my letters like dis.)
Hey, Phoenix. You don’t remember this name, but I assure you, I am not a n00b. I was forced to use this alias because some slime of the earth grassed me up about something I wrote on here.
322 (koko13)- You don’t become one. You simply are. Still, your speshul moderation powers may be revealed by a dramatic declaration of the older gods OEADs. Witness our new OEADs for an example.
In response to the many Eragon posts- I hate to admit it, but I like Eragon. I read it to boost my self-esteem about my own novels. (Hey, if this dude can get published, I can too!)
MG- Yes, we simply must have a heated debate sometime. Mosey on along to Hot Topics and I’ll see what I can do for ya.
And of course you can be in my story! I’m still taking characters until I have enough. (Around four at this point, I think it shall be.)
327 (kiki)- My supremely boring physics teacher showed us one, and then demonstrated his magneting power cord. I was not convinced. For one thing, my home machine is encased in a fairly supportive desk system, and for another, it would probably hurt what it fell on more than what it fell on would hurt it. Dinosaur.
Nano chant! Nano dance! Nano spirit! (Yes, I’m pumped.)
emogrl: Hi therrr…We just dyed our hair…But the dye didn’t relly work on my hair…and it just looks the same as before. Oh well.
Headcase: HI again…it’s certainly been a long time since I’ve been on here (a matter of months). Eragon was an all right book…just a really cheesy fantasy. Is it really necessary to make such a big deal over it? The Apple Mac/PC ads are some of the best on TV right now…definitely my favorites. Hopefully, the dye on emogrl’s hair will come to life, so to speak, after a few hours. I swear, it was not my dying technique.
309-Monty, baby! You’re back. Hallelujah-break out the Maudite! Drinks all round, Liquid Plumbr for me, thanks. I’d love to have a heated debate with you sometime. Sounds amazing. You pick the date (but I’m doing NaNoWriMo this year, so Nov. may not be the best choice), k? Twist it, sister!
316-Thank you, Phoenix-you are amazing. The difference between Paolini and a Muser is that Musers are smarter, don’t plagiarize, and Paolini’s parents own a publishing company. Want a Kiadorian knighthood? It’s unisex, and the title is Myr for both sexes.
327-Do I care about Apple? No, I do not.
I’ve just been thinking about the Frangarshion. All this talk about ripping off other people’s work has made me go all introspective. Here’s my cast of major characters:
Desdemona-domineering boss, unmarried woman, witchy. Has two daughters: Agaevon and Agaekon, who is crushing on
Nivram-big woodsy guy with animal skins, beard, etc. Has sensitive side, but dislikes
Vazyk-oily baron-dude, short, pudgy, politically savvy.
the Sultan of Hajjbat [small island country with cool navy], Pietri-a Nrikan (doesn’t sleep, eat, breathe, or die, unusually strong). Tall, scarred, angst-filled, ornery, insulting, hard-edged former street rat (illegitimate son of last king). His spy is
Shroti-an oilier, greasy rat (in his disguise) who is really Pietri’s Grand Vizier Taarken. He works in the palace of the head honcho,
Lord Basaayax-brother of Lord Phrita (Desdemona’s ex-lover) and a very powerful magician. He’s controlling
Astatine/Deeyriaq-an orphan Mothelrian former chemist who is the Godchild (daughter of Vishneela and Hajajorak), and her quasi-brother,
Simokon/Vaokeetun-another Mothelrian, a minor prince, who is the other Godchild (son of Kaqzadan and Veynchaala). He and Astatine are on a quest to locate and rescue the mysterious Jewel. This Jewel is a lump of glass that contains the most powerful sprite in the world and the magic of the most powerful magician in the world (but the characters don’t know that).
Did I accidentally rip? Tell me honestly.
251, 268: I’m not really looking for like, very hardcore, metal, or emo music though.. more like, lighter, more fun songs that a lot of people can enjoy together. or whatever. think Horrorpops, “werewolves of london”, etc.
Try In Bloom or On A Plain by Nirvana.
whoops ok maybe not Im Bloom. *turns down speakers*
331 (Penty)- I’ll definitely head over to Hot Topics sometime. Just as soon as I have the energy. See, for me, the Hot Topics thread didn’t just take up time, it took up my life. When I wasn’t formulating replies, I was trying to understand how there was this whole segment of society out there who didn’t believe a thing I did, and I had somehow not come in contact with until now. Man, that was the awesomest thing ever! I can’t wait until I have time to do that again.
Okay, the summarized version of me….
What you see: Tall (about 5′ 9″), not thin, short red hair, braces, green eyes, wears only T-shirts and blue jeans, can’t sing a note.
Personality: Sarcastic sense of humor, laughs a lot, is very analytical, and hopes she doesn’t fit into any preconcieved social norms
Character: Can be lazy, doesn’t do well with sticking with stuff for the long haul, and is passionate about things for about five minutes and then she kinds of forgets about it (this works with holding grudges, different activities she’s excited about, and disciplines she tries to impose on herself). She loves the people who get to be her friend passionately and would die for any of them, but she doesn’t make friends really easily, because she tends to not talk when she doesn’t know people well (and she analyzes people to death and has their every flaw on record in her mind… unfortunately). Tries to hard to balance being an encourager with being a realist, but she doesn’t usually succeed and normally swings too much one way or the other. Likes people, but needs time to herself. She often fibs to get out of a situation, and if she gets caught up in telling a story she’ll often embelish it to the point where you can’t recognize the original event that inspired the story (she doesn’t do this on purpose, she just sort of seperates herself from the actual event and she wants to tell a good story rather than recount the facts… a lot of times she’s halfway through saying something before she realizes she’s telling a bald faced lie) (she’s trying to stop this).
Likes: Books, people smarter than her, people who think before they talk, music (she has no talent, though), and making people laugh
Dislikes: Seeing someone hurting and not being able to help, people who are full of themselves, stupid people, people who try to encourage her but go overboard (she never believes anyone who says anything good about her), and being told what to do.
How’s that?
333 (Queenie J)- Hmm… maybe sometime early next year? Life is pretty busy through December. I’m doing NaNoWriMo, too. I have no ideas for a plot. I’m planning on just winging it like I usually do when I write a story. I’ll start with a random first sentence (something like “If Jen saw one more olive, she was going to kill somebody) and let the story spin out from that. Hopefully I can get 50,000 words of crap written eventually. I’ve never done it before, so I don’t know how hard it is. I probably won’t be able to do it, but at least I will have tried.
I’m a veggie too….
Darth Yoda, how old are you?
325- I was second!
*pies Paolini*
337- you are scarily like me. with opposite political views. ^_^ Penty, I’m a character, right? I asked you, right?
this is comment 340 gapa get part two!
You’re right. We’re picking up speed! I’ll start Part 2 right away.
