guess this is a good place to start. I’ve never checked out any Muse-related stuff online before, and wowee, I should have looked sooner! I guess I always had this misguided idea that Muse was a pretty obscure mag for crazies, and those lucky enough to stumble on it could pretty much communicate with each other only thru the fan mail page. Anywho, I’m totally rambling, but now I’ve got a couple o’ questions:
(1) since these aren’t *technically* forums, you enter in your name and e-mail every time you post… right? I got that much, but is there like a way to, like, log in?
(2) is there a thread where people talk about past articles and which issue they were in? all the time, I talk to someone about something I remember from reading in a past article, and I want to show them the article and I CAN NEVER FIND IT BECAUSE I DON’T REMEMBER THE TITLE ARGH. Sorry, ranting. Anyway, if there isn’t a thread for that, then here’s a request for one, sort of a “do you remember when/if Muse talked about…†thread. Although magazines can’t talk. ah, well.
(3)On the who’s here page, why does it say there’s +’s by posters that are over 18, but then there aren’t +’s by anyone’s name. Not that important, just something I noticed… : P
(4)Is there a story behind all those shirts you can buy on the homepage with people’s names signed all over them?

Welcome! The blog isn’t a chatroom, so it’s unlikely that anyone will be around right now, whenever “right now” happens to be. Clicking the “HG2MB” tab at the top of the page will tell you more about what sort of place this is.
As for signatures: yes, there are stories about them and about everything else around here. I’m sure veteran MuseBloggers will be happy to tell you more than you want to know.

1) The blog is technically a distortion of sorts, I guess you could say: what the administrators here (aka GAPAs; Great and Powerful Administrators, I believe XD) do is post a basically blank blog entry, usually with a short line of text explaining what the topic is, and then we discuss away. Or spam away. It depends what “thread” you’re on. As such, you don’t log it, so yes, you would have to re-enter your information each time. XD Your computer will probably remember it eventually, if you have cookies and such enabled.

67 – If you think that was a long post, you clearly haven’t been on for long (which I know you haven’t). Some people ramble on for ages. And besides – most people read all of the posts anyway. Welcome aboard! *pies* As for your questions, here are the answers, as well as I can answer:
(1) There isn’t an official way to log in, but after a while of posting often, whenever you come to the blog, your name and address will already be on there.
(2) I”m too lazy to post links right now, but there are threads to discuss every issue as well as articles. You can search for them in the search box, and I’m sure that some Musers can help you remember what issue it was in.
(3) I think that currently, groundhog22 is the only MBer over 18. But the GAPAs may not have gotten to putting +s over anyone’s name yet, or something. I’m really not sure.
(4) Not really a story. Anyway, I’m sure that Robert and Lady Bunniful can explain it all better than I can, so you should ask them.

I was suspecting that everyone would throw virtual pies at me. And I guess I was right!
I noticed that comment #78 seems to have been posted about half an hour into the future (to me, anyway). I suspect that is because we are in different time zones. Do you use one universal time zone, and translate other times to that one, or does everybody have their own time zone that they live in to time themselves on?
By the way, I was going to say, “Oh wow i just made the most recent post” on my post, but then I realized that that is non sequitor and that #78 is even more “recent” that mine.

Today I actually found a past article I needed, searching the old-fashioned way (flipping thru my collection till I get distracted and forget what I was looking for). All those acrobats on YouTube who made home videos of themselves and eventually got jobs as stunt doubles MAJORLY reminded me of parkour, but I couldn’t remember what it was called… anyway in case you’re wondering, it’s in sept. 2006, p. 36. there’s some really cool stuff if you google video “parkour”.

Oh, I almost forgot, traditional Museblog welcome requires us to “pie” you, so *pie* Everyone here reads muse, so at the very least you can visit the discussion thread which is all about the mag. If you read muse, you’ll fit in.

Hi Aeiou4U! *pie* MuseBlog is a place where Muse Readers from all over the place talk with each other. I was confused too at first. (My very first post is on this thread! Number 68. I’ve only been here 4 days, yet I’ve gotten the hang of it.) Yes, you should read the rules and HG2MB, and I also recommend another thread from November ’06, “Too much chatter on the blog?” (In fact, I reccomend it to most everybody who came here after November.) You can get to it by clicking on “WHAT’S HERE” button, then scrolling down to November ’06, and clicking on “Too much chatter on the blog?” To get an idea of all the cool stuff Muse Readers can do here, go to RRR, version 2oo7.2 Science fiction (started Feb. 2 2007). It’s an awesome story written by MBers all around the US (and mayber even farther than that). And you can add to it… it’s probably not done yet.
I’d post links to these places, but I havn’t quite figured out how to do that. On the main page, go to “HTML practice and typographing tricks” for some hints on how to do basic stuff, like this or this (my bad if it doesn’t work)

Welcome, everyone! *pies* I’ll post my MuseBlog overview thing I wrote a while ago.
MuseBlog is, as the title suggests, a place where “musers mingle,” and talk about “stuff.” We talk about things in the magazine, and other random things. Every few days there will be a new thread where we can all discuss.
The awesome amazing GAPAs (Great and Powerful Administrators) (or OEADS) (or MAP), who moderate every post before it is shown here. They are: Rosanne Spector, Robert Coontz, Paul Baker, and Rebecca Lasley.
Musers can’t post pictures on the blog, but if you would like a picture to be shown on the blog, you can email it to the GAPAs and they can put it on for you (if they choose to). The January Jubilee thread, part 2 had a lot of pictures of muses that people carved out of soap, and all those pictures were sent to the GAPAs before they were put on the website.
The best way to find out what’s going on here, I think, is to just look around. Read other things on the fan page, read previous threads, etc.

CTTTTHMV (Common Thread Type Things That Have Many Versions):
–Random threads. Every month there is a new random thread. This month’s thread is called “January Jubilee.” It always shows up at the top of the page when you first come to MuseBlog, and it has a picture with it. The random thread usually has many versions (part 1, part 2, part 3, etc.) I actually made a graph of all the random threads, now that I think of it. Maybe I’ll send it to the GAPAs. Well, anyway, the random threads are random, because no muser could live without a random thread. (Well, we could. no, wait. maybe. Um, hmm. I think I’m just confuzzling myself).
-Discussion threads: Discussion threads were created last year, as an alternative to the random thread. Some musers were getting agitated about the random thread, and how nobody could keep a discussion. So we created discussion threads, (morphing chameleon threads), where we would talk about something, and you had to talk about that thing, not go off on some thing saying, “OMGFIRSTPOSTKEWLIHADAGOODDAYINSKOOLTODAY” Discussion threads sometimes have different versions, but usually there aren’t very many.
-Muse Roll Call/Discussion: Every month, there is a muse roll call and a discussion on that issue of muse. There aren’t (usually) different parts of that, but they occur every month.
-Pie Wars: The continuing pie war never ceases, and every once and awhile there is a new thread for it.
-RRRs: Round Robin ‘Riting is a thread where one person writes part of a story, then another person writes the next part, then another person writes the next part, etc. They’re really fun (although I can never get around to doing it because of stupid homework), and the finished products are really cool.
-Birthday Threads: Every month, there is a birthday thread were every wishes a happy birthday to all musers who have birthdays that month. On the day of each person’s birthday, there is also a thread telling everyone to go to the birthday thread to wish everyone a happy birthday. It’s a museblog tradition to wear the person’s favorite color on their birthday.
-Writing/Reading: There are always Writing, Reading, Poetry, Songs, etc. threads floating around the blog. Musers like literature.
-Money-related: Whenever there are muses for sale on Ebay or there is information about the muser-loves-company store, there is usually a thread about it.
That’s all I can think about at the moment…but I’m sure there’s more.

183-Threads don’t die; they are always up. If you go here, that is.
You’re correct, Red-tailed HAWK. All threads with comments are still hanging around, though some are closed to additions, usually because later versions have superseded them.
Be aware that the “What’s Here” thread takes a while to load. Once you’ve survived the wait, you can copy and paste the whole list into Word or any other document type that will preserve the links. Then you’ll be able to access the same information much more quickly, plus add notes or highlight the threads you want to find again.
You can also browse through “Categories” (below recent comments on the far right column of the main page).
185-Yes, it does take a while to load; I usually press the button at the top of explorer that says stop once the first month of threads loads, and it stops loading the rest.

Newcomer hints: for italics, just put “i” inbetween two pointers , and to stop the italics, do the same thing, just put a “/” right before the i. For bold, just do the same thing, except with a b instead of an i. For smileys

Etiquette:
Please say something in a post. Posts should not consist of “FIRST POST!!!1!!!111!!!!ELEVEN!!!!!1!!!” or your equivalent thereof. That includes posts that consist of “:) *pie*”. And ones that consist of “hello? is anyone there?” See General Information for details on that last one.
Try to stay on topic. On the Religion thread, “I like chocolate” will end very badly. On random threads, this is more allowed, but unless you have something new to say, the guideline is, don’t. For discussion/chameleon threads, try to post as if it were a thread on the topic currently being discussed.
General Information:
MUSEBLOG IS NOT A CHATROOM!!!! Posts are moderated by a GAPA before others can see them. You may have to wait.
If you put writing after a less than sign (<), it will disappear until you put a greater than sign (>). The one I made was safe because I used the code for them (& lt; but remove the space between the ampersand and the rest)
You should know everything else I’d put here, because before you posted, you read the HG2MB. Right? Go read it.

I think you’ll fit in fine. Just so you know, this is not a chatroom, so it takes while for your posts to be “moderated” by the GAPAs(great and powerful administrators. Robert Coontz, Rosanne Spector, Paul Baker, and Rebbeca Lasley) People won’t be able to see what you post right away, and will therefore take time to respond to what you post. And just as a sidenote, I’d wait a while before deciding to confining yourself to hell with Fridgy. (I’d read the latest religions/hot topics threads. Yes, I got upset on the Religions thread and posted an outburst here. But I don’t feel that way anymore. So, just ignore that post. (Unless you’re really really young. Then I’d still reccomend you stay off.)

285 – Why 18? Maybe pre-highschool, but 18 seems a little high. Almost everybody here is under 18.

I think that it should be PG-13 though…. just as a personal prejudist because I think that kids who date very young are weird… well not weird, but it’s just scary how I’m doing things the generation before me wouldn’t have done at this age, and little kids I know are doing things I wouldn’t have done at that age… well ya know?

If you ask me, the video game rating system in the US is very flawed. M for mature? No one playing video games is ever mature.

299-Maybe. People say you can’t go to R movies, but then what is X? And what’s the difference between PG and PG-13? One means Parental Guidence and the other means Parental Guidence for those under 13. What is the PG for if PG-13 is for under 13? Why have two meaning about the same thing?

Um… I think one implies “Now if you’re over (7 or something) you can watch this” and PG-13 specifys “if you’re over 13 it’s okay to watch this”?

At my movie theater, I never see any movies rated NC-17. And some R-Rated movies sound so nasty I don’t even want to think about what an NC-17 rated movie would be like. In my opinion, the movie industry is probably saying with that rating, “This movie is so bad 1/3 of the World Population is not allowed to watch this.”

306 – I started watching that movie last night…but I’m not going to watch the rest of it because my mom thought it was grossity gross and entirely inaccurate, as in they take the goriest interpretation of the Bible, hack it up a bit, and film it. I mean, by the time they get to the trial he’s already all beat up and bloody. Shouldn’t they be beating him up AFTER he gets convicted?
I didn’t particularly enjoy the first part of it either. I don’t want to watch the rest of it either.
