Purple Panda and Taiwan Hippo Fan’s latest effort has been on the Web for weeks, but we’ve just found time to upload it onto the blog. Here ’tis.
Also on the blog are MuseCast 1, MuseCast 2, and MuseCast 3.

Hey, cool! It’s the first MuseCast I heard, because I wasn’t around/involved when the other three came out.
They’re all on the blog, too. I’ve added links above.
*Listening* GAHA!!!!! I totally have to submit something to the next one!
I have a “Mostly Harmless” shirt!
My signature is so RAD!
I used colored pencils and normal pencils.
The squeaking at the end is hilarious!
Love the squeaking!
I can’t find it on iTunes.
I’m downloading it as we type.
Wow! Thanks, GAPAs! The last few months have been really busy. I probably could have found time to make a May one too, but I didn’t. #4 is from April, I managed to finish it on the last day! It used to be on iTunes, but as soon as our trial subscription ran out, we couldn’t do that anymore. So now we just keep making trial sucscriptions and putting them on a secret website, so just the GAPAs can get them. (I’m assuming that’s where you got it, right?).
Don’t fret, we’ll make more this summer.
I see who the sponsors are!!!
Oh the fr00dyness, if that is how ’tis spelleth!
I MUST know how to get into the next one!!!!!

I made my signature in Word.
I have the Koko for prez, big
, and mostly harmless buttons.
When is the next one coming? *Is impatient*
I know it’s a lot of work so not very soon probably.
Red-tailed HAWK

Just saw PP’s post. Forget part of my post then! *yay for musecasts*
Three cheers!
I shall listen very soon, but right now I don’t want to wake anyone up.
I have my own secret website that we can use to post them on.
Yay! A new one! I can’t listen to it at this time of night, but I will tomorrow!
Froody! I really need to get in one of those…any idea what the next one’s going to be about?
We haven’t really started planning, but whatever you want to put in will definitely go in…we “welcome ideas!”
Anyone who wants to send something in can record themselves, and email it to the GAPAs. Then, they can send it to us. I think you have to have parental permission to have your voice sent, but I’m not sure. GAPAs?
Emma – if you want to do something on the Spelling bee (experiences, etc.), that would be cool!
Okay so when I here one of you saying something in the background you just put that in? What about when you actually talked to people? How does that work? *Is completely clueless*
15 – No, we actually had an audio conference with that person. We have outside contact with many other MBers, *sorry GAPAs*, and we just recorded audio conversations between us. We’ve actually never had the GAPAs send us anything from someone else, but I’m sure that’s a possibility…
Podcast=joy. It wouldn’t download right, though. I had to have Potato Chip email it. Squeaking is also ♥.
I would love to be in a podcast, but what would I talk about? It’s been a few months since MathCounts and Margaret, and nobody cares about anything else in my life. I could talk *coughcoughrantcoughcough* about TMBG. My thoughts, initially at least, is that people don’t really want to hear about whatever stuff I would think of to talk about. You could give me a topic, though. Or something.
17- I wonder the same thing. What would I talk about in a podcast? My books? And how do I know that I wouldn’t sound idiotic and inarticulate?
Everbody sounds weird on a Musecast because you don’t have lines; you’re just saying things as they come to you, and (especially for me) you can’t think of much when you know you’re being recorded. It’s like your brain would rather be recorded saying nothing than making a mistake or something. But I’ve never been in one of these before.
So pp-you’re saying you can only put people in who you have their contact information? Phooey. Now I have to wait till the kokonvention.
Whoa. I didn’t know the hot-pink bunnies sounded like squeaky toys.
19 (RtH) – No, that’s just how I have done it in the past. But I’m sure you can send something you’ve pre-recorded to the GAPAs, and if you have parental consent, they’ll probably be able to send it to me.
20 (E2MB) – Neither did I. But it was the best sound we could get that, in our opinion, sounded like HPBs
Any suggestions/ideas, etc?
Downloading….ack, my computer is slow….can’t wait to hear it!
19-The GAPAs might not be happy about this, but…it’s nt that hard to find specific MBers sometimes, via google.
23-Yea. But I guess we could just look around and see if we see any adults suspiciously lurking in the corner!
Anyway, I’m going to have to figure out how to get the silly microphone in my computer to work!
23- I at least am hard to find on google!
My name brings up thousands of hits and the only ones that are me would be for my mom’s blog, her Flickr, and of course MuseBlog. But if you know my other screen name… Then it becomes ridiculously easy.
““`
Maybe. I’ve never tried to google my other screen name.
Well, I have now. A lot of them are me, but a lot of them aren’t me, too.
I love the squeaking!!!!!
I have contact with you, Purple Panda, but I have absolutely nothing interesting to say. (And I would be afraid of sounding stupid.)
I googled me. I’m not a Medicane woman, or a fashion desginer, or any of those that aren’t museblog.
I would talk on one of them, but I don’t like the way my voice sounds to people other than myself. And I would hate to shatter the carefully-asigned voice you all ‘read’ my posts with.
…or am I the only one that does that?
29-I have a very good idea of what your voice must sound like. But when I here these musecasts I see how very wrong I am…
So who are all of the people on this one again?
Red-tailed HAWK the Always Confused

Gotta love sqweeking HPB’s!! I looked up MuseCasts in iTunes and subscribed, but there’s an ‘error’.
I always thought of the HPBs with teeny-tiny little high-pitched voices, as that’s how they are portrayed in the magazine.
The stuff about William Shakespear was very interesting!
29 – There’s a little mental voice in my head that I use when I am reading everything. When I read your posts, the little mental voice speaks them all in the same way. But MuseCast gives an interesting portal into what MBers sound like.
I would be very happy to contribute something to the musecast (I just accidentally wrote muse cats.) What topic are you doing next time?
Okay, so I have me singing “Only Hope” from a movie I haven’t seen called “A walk to remember.” I like the song, but the real reason I used it was because I couldn’t find any other just instrumental soundtracks. If you guys want it, you can have it, but if you don’t or don’t care, I won’t even bother.
I don’t think podcasts really ever have music, but the radio ones do, so this should work just fine if you’ll take it.
Plus, (Phht fine, also ) if you want to listen to it first, be my guest.
THF and I actually haven’t even begun to think about topics for our next MuseCast. With finals and script frenzy and such, we have always spent our extra time on something else. We’d love suggestions!
You could ask people what they think about Muse being 8 pages smaller. Are they organizing rallies and protests right now or could they care less?
37- Rallies and protests. Or at least, I would be if I had contact with anyone who reads Muse outside of the blog. Actually, I do, but I mean not over the web. Like I said, we should all write in with complaints.
Oh yeah, and we could also promise to advertise Muse whenever possible.
MUSE IS 8 PAGES SMALLER??!?!?!??!???!
40-Didn’t you notice??? Everybody has been complaining here for a while!
Anyway, I must think of something to send in… MWEEHEEHEE!!!
I just now thought of something!
Okay, not that anyone posts/comes here anymore, but we’re making a new MuseCast now, and contributions are appreciated!! Just send in anything you want…
42- Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. I don’t have anything to send in, sadly, but I eagerly await the next MuseCast.
*sigh* I would love to be in a MuseCast, but again, I don’t have anything to say. Nor do I have a way to record it. Maybe eventually my mother will get podcast-making materials and I can send something in then. It depends on the theme, really.
Alice – Maybe you could talk about your Script Frenzy experiences. Or something like that. Really, anything you say will go in, and will be much appreciated. I actually just sent out an email to a bunch of MBers (you too, I think), begging for stuff. Because we really, really need it.
42-Arg! I didn’t see your post, and now it might be too late. *thinks fast* OK, if there is still time to put something in, please tell me!
45-To me? I don’t know how you would have my e-mail, though. I have an idea of what I want to say, but I can’t figure out how to record the sound with the built-in microphone. The help windows were not very helpful, so maybe a computer person like you could help. I have a mac, and I found a window for the speaker, but there was no button to push to record. I will look again, but if you have any advice that would be great.
RtH

I can’t record it. Unless my computer has magic powers I didn’t know about. Come to think of it, it might. I’ll have to ask my dad.
48-Most computers have an internal microphone. I don’t know how to use mine. Wait, you have a laptop, so maybe they don’t have microphones…
49- The other computer might, though. I’ve not seen any sign of a microphone on either computer, but that doesn’t mean they don’t exist. There two little speakers, and some plug-ins with weird symbols; one of those might be for a microphone.
I’ve heard that Macs have internal microphones, but I don’t have a Mac.
I’ve heard that you can plug headphones or a speaker into the microphone port and it’ll work, but not well. I have a microphone, though, so I haven’t tried it.
47 (Hawk) – Do you have any recording programs? We use GarageBand (on Mac) to make MuseCast. Maybe you could use that?
I have a mac laptop, and it has a built-in microphone, and I’m pretty sure all macs do. But I’m not sure.
52- Okay. I’ll ask my dad.
Where exactly is this built in microphone. I can’t find one.
I found the microphone (by downloading a manual) but I don’t know how to get it to record. Help!
54 (Alice) – Do you have a Mac? I have an iBook G4, and the microphone is a little hole in the right-hand side of the screen. My mom has a MacBook, and the microphone is too little holes at the top of the screen. Do you have either of those, and if so, did you find it?
56-Ooooh, there is a little hole on the bottom left hand part of my screen!
I never knew what that did, so now I know! But I just have to talk near it, right? I will go look for that program…
48- Well, we ended up having an old microphone/earphone headset that could plug into a USB port the records stuff. Maybe you’ve got something like that hidden somewhere.
Ours was ooold… couldn’t hear anythng out of the headphone part.
Oh, never mind, you found one.
Well, if you have a program like garage band or something there’s usually a button that lets you record stuff though it… I don’t know what program you would have, though.
I have a PowerBook G3, and the microphone is a tiny little hole at the top of the screen (left-hand). I just don’t know how to get it to record, that’s all.
59-I know! I have looked all over, and didn’t find “garageband” or anything! Do you need to download something first? Please don’t finish the musecast until I can get in! *hopes*
I have a powerbook G4 titanium with black keys (titanium color, not titanium).
I don’t know where the mic.I just found it! Yay!60- Unless you have a macbook or macbook pro you have to buy it. It’s a program, you know. Just like microsoft office. Yay! I just didn’t capitalize things that I should’ve. It’s so nice to do something different, isn’t it?
61-I know where it is, I just need to know what to click on/hit to record! I’m hoping there is some way to record sound without a special program…
My little sister will be taking part, if she doesn’t change her mind first. Is that okay? She has raised a clamor at the thought of being on a MuseCast. She’s reading over my shoulder and protesting at the thought.
(63) Someone told me about a free audiorecording program called Audacity. It’s easy to find through Google. I haven’t tried it myself yet, so I can’t tell you anything more about it.
65- I downloaded it. Wish me luck!
It didn’t work, maybe because you were supposed to go to such-and-such a place and buy such-and-such a thing, and there’s no way I’m doing that.
Ugh. My dad has garageband, but when we try to import it into my computer, which ought to have it but doesn’t, it claims that there is an invalid library.
There must be a way to just do basic recording with the built-in microphone. I found it once, but I can’t find it now… *goes off to look*
69- If you figure it out, tell me, please.
I remember once there was a small silver circle that had something to do with the microphone that I found…somehow. Now to find it again…
I see no small silver circles. But that’s okay, because I have a program that might actually work, provided StuffIt behaves.
Even though I get my friend who’s addicted to LOZ annoyed by trying to help him save time and space with shortcuts I don’t know how to help.
72-It was a circle-shaped window that appeared when I was looking around in the “sound” section, and it was about 2″ wide. I can’t get that window to come back, though.
Hahah, just as I said that, I found it. But it is only for asking the computer what time it is and stuff. Is there any way to record a basic thing without getting a special program???
Oh, the speech commands thing? It’s actually quite useful, if you remember to use it. You can switch applications and all sorts of neat stuff.
76-Yeah, I thought that might have something to do with recording, but now I see it doesn’t. Phooey.
My mother is buying me a microphone today, and from there it should be easy.
78-Oh, does it come with instructions? I found my microphone, but it seems it doesn’t have a record button.
79- I wouldn’t know yet, since I don’t get it till tomorrow.
Yay! This is awesome! When and if you record something, you can probably send it to the GAPAs and they’ll send it to me. Is that okay, GAPAs?
81-*races to try to figure this out* Is there a deadline for sending things in? I hope I don’t miss it!
82- If you do, I’m sure you could get in the next one.
83-I’m still hoping I can get into this one, but you’re right. I found something called iChat, but it seems to be for live conversations over the internet or something. *sigh* I’ll keep looking…
OK, I just found “Audacity”. Should I download it, or has anybody had troubles with it? I will of course need to check with my parents anyway, but I want to make sure it is an okay program at least for basic recording.
84- I found iChat too. It’s for Instant Messaging, but Pan and THF have recorded conversations in the past. I’m just not a very IM-y kind of person. Besides, I don’t know how to work it, and it refuses to quit when I have opened it, so I have to force quit and stuff…ugh.
85- I think what I was having trouble with was my microphone, because nothing else worked. I’ be interested in seeing whether Audacity worked for you.
Now my sister is addicted. She keeps bugging me to put on MuseCast, even though she’s heard them all. ARGH!
84/86 – Yes! iChat!! That’s how we got stuff from everyone else (Penty, Ebeth, Violetfire, Kiki, etc.) And yes, it’s for live conversations. It might come in very useful for what THF and I are planning to do for future MuseCasts – we’re desperately trying to cut down the cheese, (because it has been extremely cheesy), and are going to see if a longer, more laid-back podcast would be better. Sort of like MuggleCast, if you’ve heard that before. And we’re trying to get it hooked up to iTunes’ Podcasts again. *Sigh*
And don’t worry about deadlines or anything. This summer, as soon as we get our act together (probably tomorrow), we’ll start making them more often, and even if we don’t, you can always go on the next one. No rush
How do people not know what iChat is?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?
If I was going to record something what would it be on?
89- Oh. So I could hook up iChat and talk with you? If I fixed it so that I wasn’t
…snip…
anymore. *sigh* That was what the person who last owned this computer called it, and I don’t know how to change it.
90- Well, HAWK is quaker, and I’m Miss Raised-in-the-country-with-no-electronics-until-she-was-seven-and-has-never-been-exposed-to-pop-culture.
92 – I’m basically a mix between the two of you. I didn’t even know what a computer was until I was about 8, and I’m sort of Quaker, so yeah… I didn’t even know half of the stuff I’m talking about right now even existed until last year, and then when I found it, I found even more stuff, and on and on and stuff..
*Dances* AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH YAYAYAYAYAYAYAY!!!!!
I just downloaded audacity, and I recorded a test thing, and it worked!
w00t! I will record my part for the musecast as soon as I can!
Alice-It said it works best on computers with *a certain amount of space that I can’t remember but maybe yours doesn’t have that much room because it is a laptop* At least that is what I think the problem must be for you.
The very Happy HAWK

What are people recording, anyway?
Awesome, guys! Also, for anyone who can’t record just yet, you can always write something for us to read on the musecast.
So far, we’re planning to talk about: Harry Potter (the movie, upcoming book, and Kiki’s article), Script Frenzy, Cesspools, and emmatheduck’s spelling bee experiences.
I might be able to get on iChat, if I had anything to talk about. Of course, It’d probably be amazingly boring, so maybe it’s not a good idea. Oh well, worth a try. Maybe. Maybe not.
91- Oh, thanks. That’s not really me, so it never occurred to me you could track me. I’m too trusting, too.
Maybe I will get on iChat, but I don’t like to think about what my parents would say. *eep*
OK, I have my ideas all together, and I will be recording shortly. I will send it to the GAPAs in, hopefully, an hour or so…
What I’m talking about isn’t any of the current topics, so is it okay if I start a new one?
99 – Of course! We’d love anything you sent us, we always need new stuff. I think you might also need a parental consent letter (probably just an email saying it’s okay for your voice to be sent, etc), but I really have no idea, because the GAPAs haven’t said anything about this yet.
100-Great! I am in the process of recording, trying not to have my voice sound weird, and not making any mistakes. I will have my mom say something in the e-mail to the GAPAs, and will probably be sending that in a few minutes…
I have an idea! All of the Musers who speak in the next MuseCast should send in a picture of themselves so people will be able to picture the person as they are talking. Good?
89- Yes, like Mugglecast would be very good. Something not as scripted, more like a discussion between several people. Like just haveing a group chat and recording it.
My mom will bring the microphone tonight, but I won’t be able to record till tomorrow afternoon, because I’m going kayaking.
OK, what should I “export” the file as so PP and THP can read it?
104: I’m guessing an MP3 file — but we’ll have to wait for PP or THP to know for sure.
105-OK. That seems to be an option, so if it is what they want, I can send it in that format…
Should I just send it as that or wait till tomorrow?
Whatever file you want works fine, I think. MP3, MP4, AIFF, and a bunch of other files work. As long as it can work in iTunes, we can just put it in GarageBand from there.
It works on GarageBand, on my dad’s computer. My computer doesn’t have GarageBand yet, and there is something desperately wrong with its speakers. They emit a high-pitched whine when turned on, so right now I have them on Mute. I need to work on it, clearly. Oh bother.
108-OK…I am trying to export it as MP3, but it keeps saying it doesn’t know where something called “lamelib” is, and I wondered if you knew where it is. I don’t even know what it needs it for…
Oooo… It let me save it as “WAV”. Can you use that type of file?
I just sent my part to the GAPAs, and I think the format it is in will be easy to use. If not, I can try again.
Did my idea for pictures sound good? If so, I will have my mom take a picture of me with my Muse buttons on or something…
OK, now I ACTUALLY sent it!
I hope it works!
R-t H – Awesome! Just in time, too…we’re almost finished with #5. GAPAs – did you get it? Can you send it to us?
About the pictures – I don’t know if it’s really necessary…I mean, you can if you want, I don’t really care. But I’m also going to make a video segment of a future MuseCast (after the Kokonvention) which will have you in it, because you’re coming to the Kokonvention.
114-A video??? Great! I think you’re right about the pictures, though… people will (hopefully) see me in a couple of months in the magazine (I sent in a letter)
But a video of the kokonvention will be nice, especially for people who won’t be able to come.
R-t H

Red-tailed HAWK – we got your contribution, and it’s officially in the podcast! THF and I just have to record a bit more tomorrow, then we’ll send it to Robert. Thanks!!
No time to do this… Maybe I’ll work on it after the 19th. *falls asleep on her keyboard*
116-YAY!!!
That’s great! When I first heard a MuseCast, I wanted to be in one. Now I am! w00t!
Thank you for all of your work!
117-*Gives coke boosted with caffeine* Well, I hope you can get into the next one…
Alice – Don’t worry, THF and I are trying to get another one out next week as well!
Red-tailed HAWK – thanks for putting something in! You can be in as many as you want – just send stuff in!
This one is going to be a lot different than the other ones, though, guys!
119-I can’t wait to hear it! And another next week? Wow, you’re going to be busy! But I’m sure it is fun as well as a good way to learn more computer tricks (maybe you know them all already-but certainly more than I do!)
I must start thinking about what to send in next time…
I am sad. My computer’s speakers are still messed up. It will go up to a certain volume now, before it starts making a highly unpleasant noise, but I’m reluctant to try using it. Maybe…hang on. No, I’ll try later. I also want to get a program that I can maybe possibly use before trying this. In short, it’ll be a while. But I eagerly await the next installment!
122-Yes! I can’t wait to hear what I sound like! *trys to calm down*
I’ve been trying to send it to the GAPAs all day, but I’m in MI right now, and the only internet I have is the internet from the library, and it’s really unreliable, and slow. So it hasn’t lasted long enough for me to send it to them. I’ll get it in as soon as I can, though!
124-Okay! Yay!
btw-what are you doing in Michigan?
I havz mez am iydeeyaz!!!
*sob* I want to send something in…
Oooh how I have neglected this thread…..
Yay! My speakers aren’t permanently broken after all! I will send something in to the next one.
130-w00t!
130 – Awesome!
I still don’t have enough internet to send it…grr! I’m going to try to take my computer to my grandparents’ house sometime soon to use their internet.
I got GarageBand! YAYAYAYAYAYAYAY!
ARGH! NOT yay! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR It’s for computers with a DVD drive. Therefore it doesn’t show up on my computer.
Aaaaaaaaaaa!!!!! *hopes Alice can find a way*
134- Just how old is your computer?
135- My dad is going to ask his friend if he has iLife on CD.
136- Oh, ancient. From the ’90s, probably.
137-nope,sorry. garageband is for mac os x. also, garageband started on ilife ’06.
138- I HAVE an OS X! I have the most recent program my computer can run. Something like . . . something I can’t remember. But my dad has it too, on his fancy new computer.
o.k. the problem is just that a)the os x isn’t new enogh or b) ilife ’06 dosn’t come on cd.
140- It’s new enough, because my dad has the same version, and he has GarageBand. And it might come on CD, I don’t know.
141-Do you have enough space?
Alice- It might only have a CD drive, though, or something like that. It might not be the OS that’s the problem but the machine itself. In fact, that probably is the problem.
143- Oh, no doubt it is. I hope it comes on CD, but if it doesn’t, then I’ll have to find another way.
Oooh yesYES MuseCast!!!!!!!!
I’twill be fun having MuseCast right at the kokonvention! I hope I don’t forget my lines!
“Lines”? What “lines”? You don’t say lines, you say whatever the heck comes into your head!
146-All the more scary!

Sorry we still haven’t been able to send MuseCast 5 – we’re going back to Pittsburgh tomorrow, and when we get back, we’ll send it.
We’re going to record as much of the Kokonvention on my mom’s iPod as we can, as long as we have battery. Other than that, we’ll do everything else on our video camera. And that will work fine, too, because we’ll have video and audio, so whatever we don’t use in video we can just separate the audio from the video and put it in the MuseCast.
Robert/any GAPA – I sent the MuseCast!
YES! At last! I can’t wait! And I may be able to get into one eventually. If we don’t get the software soon, I might just try iChat.
Hmm. In fact, I might just try iChat right out. I’d have to create an account, and my computer “does not support video chat” but it would serve the purpose even better than simply recording something.
