First Post! Oops! PoPo!
I love practicing HTML on this thread!
I also love doing a href=https://musefanpage.com/blog title=MuseBlog!>links!
I mean I also love doing links!
1-2: When I see your name, I see Silly Bulb Sylll-laaaa-buuuubb! (as in Seeeee-gaaaa)
@1 – Well, you messed that one up.
Seriously, though, what’s the point of even saying first post? It’s annoying, useless, and pointless, and most of the time it doesn’t work. If you’re going to comment on it at least make the post an original comment and remark on the fact later. It makes it less intrusive and far less exasperating.
…Sorry. I just wish people wouldn’t waste blog space on that.

11- Did you follow #5 exactly, with https://musefanpage.com/blog/?p=1234#comment-123
this format url?
3-okaaaay……
4-I wasn’t just saying “First Post!” I did HTML too, which is the point of this thread.
what does the “acronym title” HTML do?
13- yes, I just don’t know what to write in the “popup words” spot and where to put spaces and… and this is so confusing! *is confuzzled*
YAYNESS IT WORKED!!!
Okay. So here’s how you do it.
{ =
{a href=”www.musefanpage.com/blog/?p=1234″ title=”whatever you want it to say in the yellow box that pops up if your mouse is on the link for a few seconds”}word[s] you want to be red{/a}
Woah, what happened? I wanted to show that { means . Also, why are there several spaces between the first quotes and the word “title”?
HEY!
I think I’ll try some of the stuff underneath the comment box……
I just like doing this, 'cause I haven't found a use for it in any other place yet
EM WHAT???Now, let’s see what they do….
What did I do? Oh, I see. Riiiight. I’m not going to try doing a link again, though. I’m curious about ’em’.
EM WHAT NOW?
Sorry for the triple post, but isn’t that exactly the same as italics? Let’s see….
Em italics
OK. greaterthan and lessthan are { and }.
{a href=â€www.musefanpage.com/blog/?p=1234″ title=â€whatever you want it to say in the yellow box that pops up if your mouse is on the link for a few secondsâ€}word[s] you want to be red{/a}
Just in case, that should be one space.
What’s this? I probably messed that up.
Sorry I’m quadruple posting.
What is this?
I wonder if I can do more than one kind of HTML at once. This is hopefully a link to the Muse Academy Holiday Party Planning Thread, in the code
text. Here we go:
Muse Academy Holiday Pary Planning Thread
Oops. I spelled “party” wrong, and the link didn’t work. So I will linkify this HPB to Off With Their Heads.
So Be It.
26- Rainbowstar, you’re doing something wrong. How are you making the link?
OK, so let’s go through this step by step. Let’s take the {a href part first. There needs to be a space between “a” and “href.”
OK, so: {a href= There’s no space before or after the equals sign.
{a href=”https://musefanpage.com/blog/?p=1532″ Make sure you close the quotes and use the correct format for the URL.
{a href=”https://musefanpage.com/blog/?p=1532″ title= There’s a space between the close quotes and the word “title.” This will probably make an extra space or two, due to the HTML of the blog, but it’s just one space.
{a href=”https://musefanpage.com/blog/?p=1532″ title=”Off With Their Heads! The Origins And Culture of HPBs, Part 5″ OK, so the “title” part is the trickiest. After “title=,” you have to write (in the quotes!) what you want it to say when you put your cursor over the link and hold it for a few seconds. You know that yellow box that comes up? That’s what “title” does.
{a href=”https://musefanpage.com/blog/?p=1532″ title=”Off With Their Heads! The Origins And Culture of HPBs, Part 5″} Put a lessthan sign after the end quote.
{a href=”https://musefanpage.com/blog/?p=1532″ title=”Off With Their Heads! The Origins And Culture of HPBs, Part 5″}words or smileys you want to be linkified{/a}
So, your link to the Holiday Party would be:
Muse Academy Holiday Party Planning Thread
Oops.
Muse Academy Holiday Party Planning Thread
Testing
.
<abbr title”This should be bold“>And this should be bold too.
Oh that was silly of me. I forgot the equals sign! It’s the little things that really show.
And again, <abbr title=â€This should be bold“>This is (not) bold.
And this should be bold too. Just to make sure I’ve got it right.
Nope.
Click on the smiley to have FUN!!!
I hope this works….
When making links, you don’t need to include the “title” tag. I always leave it out to save time.
I meant to do an actual smiley, but it WORKED!!!
Hey! Never done this before. Hope it shows up.
I’ve done this though.
And this.
Wheeee!
Yep, it was red. And it turns light purplish-bluish when you put your mouse over it. Now I will link this red heart to the new random thread.
Credit goes to LadyGaladriel for HTML assistance.
38- Is my post (5) helpful? I’m just asking to refine instructions to aid future mbloggers, I thought a long explanation like 28 would be even more confusing.
39 – Yes, that was also helpful.
That’s odd. I used the exact same format as the linked heart (at least, I think I did), but it didn’t work. Hmmm. Maybe smileys can’t linkify or something.
Here’s another attempt at a link.
*hopes it works*
(41) You had an extra set of quotation marks around the URL. It works now.
41- I believe your description of a Schrodinger’s Link is a bit inaccurate. It should read that it is neither until you click it. It’s not that you don’t know.
Hm. Does the “code” function make the font Courier New? That would be useful for drawings. Let me try:
HH HH
HH HH
HHHHHH
HH HH
HH HH
And what does “em” do?
Nope. Dang. I apologize for the double post!
What does this do: Does this do anything?
And this: Does this work?
What about this:
This doesn’t work either, does it?
(44) I believe this is one page where double, indeed multiple, posts are not only acceptable, but also customary.
45- Excellent.

[The Gnome begs your pardon, but en couldn’t resist a challenge and made a few edits. Note that it’s very difficult to get these right, as the spacing changes between the comment box and moderation space and back to the blog. There’s no way to tell if you have it right simply by looking at it.]

Now, how do you make the HTML that makes the links say stuff when you mouse over them?
And just to save posts….Does this work? If not, what am I doing wrong?
Yay, and yay!
Hmm, maybe blockquote cite works the same way?
I sure hope so….. But if not, what should I be doing?
Nope. Oh well. How do you do that?
64 – How do you do the dotted underline HTML?
67-What dotted underline HTML? Those are periods.
(SFTDP.)
Ohhh, wait, is this how you do the saying stuff stuff?
Nope. Cake, how the heck do you do it? Rainbowstar?
Armada- What are you trying to do? I think I may be able to help.
Any guesses for my post 63 picture?

Is this how I do alt text?
Nope, it isn’t. SFTDP.
Is this how you do it?

I hope that works.
71-I’m trying to make links do the thing where a box saying something pops up next to the mouse when you mouse over the link. You know, like in comment#47. I can’t think of a better way to describe it.
(SFTDP)
This should be working, but it isn’t! What am I doing wrong?
Okay, let’s see…..
Hm. That’s strange. It works, but only partially…. Rainbowstar? Piggy?
It works completely for me.
80-I know! I can’t figure out what the problem is!
Let’s try it yet again.
Cake it, that is weird….
For non links, you can use post 76 as an example. It’s the same in practice. I have no idea what’s only partially working.
non-alt text
76 – Ah, yes. I see now. Thanks!
Does any of this stuff work on a mac (an old mac) ?… .

bunnies, bunnies, bunnies- thou art easy to make, but always interesting…
85 – PLEASE put a period there. It’s monopolizing the ‘Recent Comments’ bar. Thanks!
Period inserted, Kokonilly.
87 – Thank you!
Strangely, comment 85 appeared blank on my computer, including while in the moderation queue, else I would have added the period. I could only see the contents by opening it for editing. Once I demobbed some of the assembled bunny army, the comment magically appeared in the normal way.
My name should be linkified to a fun thread. I’m testing whether links work in names, as smileys don’t seem to. Incidentally, if you click on a GAPA’s name, it takes you to the Muse Fan Page.
85) Sorry. How many HPBs per comment (max.) ?

According to HG2MB, you can make smileys by typing their sideways text smiley equivalents. I will try that here.

Eek
Neutral
96- That second one is “eyebrow raise”, even though the HTML for it is “:” + “neutral” + “:”. At least, that’s how it looks to me; I may be seeing things again.
And this is the thread where everyone may or may not come to try out the new smilies, when they are programmed into MB. Ah, I wish you all could see them…
98- You’ve been instructed to go to the Neophytes thread by someone or other, to be welcomed. You should; it’s fun.
hey, piggy. have you ever eaten a pig?
bunnys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How does one make a word link? You know how people are all “click here” and it’s a link. I would like to know how to do that.
100- *sigh* Neophytes. Yes, I have. Many, in fact. And please, try to be a bit more mature. I know, you’re new here, but still, you’ll be rather unpopular if you continue acting in this fashion.
Whoops, it didn’t work. Gnomes?
1. Look at the first HTML thing below the comment box, the one which says [a href=— title=—], but with the greater than/less than signs.
2. In the space between the first pair of quotes, write the web page URL. I’ll use this page.
3. In the space between the second pair of quotes, write the “alt text”. The alt text is what is says when the cursor is pointing to the link, but not clicking it. Mine will say, “This is this page.”
4. After the greater than sign, write what you want the link to say. For mine, it’ll read, “Click here for the example.â€
5. Write [/a] after that, again with the greater than/less than signs..
6. Voila! It should turn out something like this: Click here for the example.
The code looks like this:
[a href=”https://musefanpage.com/blog/?p=1552″ title=”This is this page.”]Click here for the example.[/a]
Writing a URL by itself automatically creates a link, as it did above. If you need any help, please ask.

I read elsewhere on the blog that if you post, you have to wait 15 seconds to post again. Of course, I’m going to try it.
I just tried to post saying “Testing…”, but a WordPress error page came up that said “You are posting comments too quickly. Slow down.” So it’s true, you do have to wait 15 seconds between posts.
120- I think it used to say “Whoa, slow down cowboy.”
Or something along those lines.
Just testing something here, doubt it’ll work…..
Figures. it didn’t. not that I thought it would or anything, but still…..
5 – Wow, that is weird … on my home computer, most of those unicode things are boxes with numbers in them, and a few are symbols. But on this school computer, aa whole bunch more are symbols! 124- You need to get the correct unicode symbols. In Firefox, this can be accomplished by going to View>Character Encodings>More Encodings>Unicode (16)
decodeunicode dotorg is a good resource.
I want this to be red.
What does this do?
This probably won’t work.
What’s this?
130 – That takes me to a page full of boxes with numbers in them and occasional symbols. It doesn’t change how I see the symbols you posted.
Rainbowstar: I wonder whether some browsers see more symbols than others do. Which are you using?
I’m using Mozilla Firefox.
Safari all the way.
Ugh. Safari is just as bad as IE. Firefox FTW!
Hmm, I’m not sure how to get Firefox to display characters, besides messing around with those settings. Sorry.
Do you have Firefox 3? A little research finds that Microsoft-Windows needs libraries installed, linux-gnome needs fonts. It’s a mess.
137- I’m not sure. *checks* I have 3.0.6. It doesn’t seem like a mess to me. In fact, it seems less of a mess than IE was. And all the characters show up on mine without my changing any settings. Well, most of them, anyway.
I mean that the general state of Unicode character support is a mess. Firefox does seem to be pretty good supporting characters, but there’s no easy way to download and install other character sets (confusingly called ‘fonts’).
Safari, definitely.
not sure what this does, if anything…..

Oh, postscript: Safari isn’t that bad, at least it’s pretty good rendering basic standard adhering pages.(I just remember reading in a CSS book that Safari fails a few CSS rules.)(That was old, it looks like Opera and Safari are both 100% now.)
Functionality wise though, it can’t compare to Firefox in any way. Opera, Konqueror and Chrome are all the same- pretty, (I’d use them to showcase a website) but very limited.
I still have no idea how to do red/green text, URL, bold, strikeout, and italics. Don’t remind me again, I’m hopeless.

150- It’s probably confusing the HTML. The greater than/less than signs are used for the italics/bold/link HTML, and so the software tries to use them for that, making them invisible.
Testing, Testing, one two three….
This link is for the -phytes thread, but I want to test it here…
The BA:TNG summary should be here.
Let’s see if this works…
These words should be crossed out.
I am trying to learn HTML. How do you end the striked out words things?
These words should be bold, I think.
What does this do?
Heeep! I invented an HTML code! Lissenlissenlissen! Has anyone ever wondered how to make mouse-over text? You know, you place your mouse over a sentence and a box shows up? There is another way to do it, and you don’t need an a href!
Between those first quotes, you can put anything you want. It doesn’t matter. The second set is what the word (s) will be.
<name=”boogabooga” title=”Here’s a llama there’s a llama”>
and to end it you do:
</name>
and you type what you want between: llama”> and </name
Move your mouse over this sentance.
again, the full code:
<name=”boogabooga” title=”Here’s a llama there’s a llama”> Hi there! </name> ‘Kay!
Now, it worked on my blog, but I don’t know if it will work here.
You can’t invent html, it’s a language that’s already been written. More info about the full spectrum of html tags is at the W3.
I think if that were to work, you would need to include an a before “name.”
If that doesn’t go through, it’ll be because your blog allows more html than there.
Will this link to MB?
Is this a link?
This is ridiculous!
Obviously not.

How do you italicize/boldface stuff?
161- <i>Text to be italicized</i>
It’s the same thing to bold them, except the “I”s are “B”s.
I hope that worked. I’m not entirely sure about the Unicode.
