If this is a first post, then this is my first first post!
Great job!! This is the closest I’ve gotten to the top too.
Pets. OK, sure. I don’t have any at the moment, because I’m abroad, (I used to have some fish) but would really like to get a dog, preferably a puppy, when I come home.
Right now, I have two hermit crabs: One, which I named, named Hermie (yeah, I know, original); and one which my sister named, named Hermione. My sister kept sea monkeys aka brine shrimp a couple years ago. They all died due to negligence, which is why I’m taking care of the crabs.
We have 2 cats: Ginger and Beth. We got them from the animal shelter a few years ago, and they came with the names Ginger and Spice. We obviously couldn’t keep those names, so we named them Ginger and Beth.
We also have over 100 Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches. We don’t name them, because it would be a bit pointless since we can’t tell them apart.
About a week ago, we got 2 mice. We named them Frodo and Sam. One is brown, and one is white, and they’re really cute and furry!
We used to have Hermit Crabs, named Smeagol and David. And we’ve had fish, and gerbils, and other random pets like that, but I don’t remember their names. We named one of our fish Goldie and another Pebble but that’s all I remember. (Yes, I was 6 when I named the fish, and couldn’t think of anything more creative)
Are the roaches because you bought/bred them, or did they come free of charge with your house/apartment? (I, unfortunately, have the latter one in my dorm apartment.)
5 (groundhog) – Fortunately, they’re because we bought/bred them. We ordered 4 females off the internet, but they sent us 2 males and 2 females. That’s okay, though, it’s fun to watch them molt and grow. They’re the better kind of cockroaches, too. They don’t fly or sting or bite or anything like that.
My biggest regret about having to drive home after the Pumpkin Drop was not getting to meet your cockroaches.
I want a cat. But I am allergic. Extremely. Alas…
I also want a dog. And gerbils. And mice. And a lizard. But my mom says no pets for me until I move out of the house. What a rip-off…
My family has goldfish ’cause were’re all allergic to anything with fur.
Even though cats and dogs are the coolest pets EVER!!!!!!!!!!! Oyr goldfish are named Marcie, Franklin, Rerun, Sherman, and Apple Cider. (Mylittle sister named the last one

13 (meister) – That’s so cool! My cat Ginger will come from anywhere in the house if you call her name, but that’s about it. Beth (my other cat) can also open doors, but that’s pretty much all she can do too. Go attack mom? That might come in handy. Though I think “Go attack the HPB” might be a little bit more interesting
I have a gecko. I once had (at various times) a cat, a dog, a hamster, and some fish, but they all were either given away or died.
12- If you’re asking what “pwn” means, then look no further. Pwn is just a purposeful misspelling of the word “own”; as in, “I owned you so bad!” But please try to speak English, though.

The girls in the apartment next door to mine used to have fish, however the fish committed suicide.
18- You mean they jumped out of the bowl?
One of my fish died that way. We had our fish tank right over the staircase, and the fish must have jumped out because we found her at the bottom of the stairs one morning.
8 – That’s what my mom said, about pets and dating. I’ve moved out, technically, but the dorms don’t allow pets and one of my closest friends has a crush on the guy who’s flirting with me. Oh, woe is me . . . but I am going to get a pet when I get my own house!
I used to have a fish, but my mom killed it. My sister, however, just got two gerbils, and is now completely obsessed with all rodents. Every time she sees a squirrel/chipmunk (about every five seconds) she exclaims about how cute it is and how it reminds her of Squirt and Canoodle (the gerbils).
I really want a dog. I have really wanted a dog for my entire life. But, half of my family is extremely allergic to them, and my mom whines that she’s already taking care of four babies (me, my siblings, and my dad) and doesn’t want another one in the house. So I probably won’t be getting one anytime soon . . .
We used to have a dog, Kimba, but she died a few years ago. She was 13 or 14, I think. We also used to have a cat, Sangria, but she died too, at age 28 or some ancient age around there.
My cousins used to have a “free-range gerbil.” It didn’t have a cage or anything, it just ran around in their house. I think that was when they lived in Kazakhstan…
We had a dog, Bessie (springer spaniel, and man, was she wild) a dog, Maytag (mutt, I don’t know what breed he was) and a cat, Johnny, along with numerous goldfish and a beta. And a cat called Magic. Now we’re getting another dog. *pant*pant*. Our Johnny died at 20. *sniff,sniff*.
Our neighbor (poor guy) lost both of his golden retrievers within two weeks of each other, both suffering fatal aneurysms. He has since gotten a new one, about seven years old.
I find a stick insect in the spring/summer, keep it as a pet/science fair project until it dies (it’s natural lifespan) in October/November.
I also had a mantis briefly.

We found a praying mantis in the playground of my elementary/middle school once. It’s illegal to touch praying mantises (in my state at least), but I picked it up and put it in a tree because I didn’t want it to get stepped on.
i have a horse, 2 goats, a dog and cat, and 2 hermies. I used to have a fish, another cat and another hermie, but they all died.
27- Would you mind telling me about your hermies? I’ve had mine for about six months. One of them has molted, then acquired a new shell. The other one dropped dead of natural causes two days after we got him. His warranty had not yet expired, so we got another one. Hermie 2 is living happily and healthily.
my friends cat just died and he was 20 years old… thats over 4 times the life expectancy of a cat, like one of us living to be over 300

My family used to have a cat named Portia, but she died when I was about 5. Then we found a stray cat named Tomas, but we had to give him away because my brother is alergic to cats. Then both me and my brother had Monarch butterfly caterpillers and they were fine and grew up into nice butterflies, and we were able to relise them. Then my brother had a pet tadpole that was suposed to be unkillable, so naturally it died in a week. Now I would really like a kitten, but my brother is still alergic to them so we can’t get one. Well at least I get to help out at an animal shelter(Yay!)

The only pets I’ve had are fish who died shortly after we got them. My sister had an overweight hamster for a few years, but it died. My dad’s allergic to cats and dogs, so we can’t get either.
you can trade your brother for my non-allergic brother as long as you don’t fell like being a bee-keeper (his one allergy) I wish i could throw in my sis but she is allergic to cats so it would destroy your plans.

Karate is quite popular where I live, one of the fads. Others include soccer and (seemingly more recent) medieval weapons. I notice all either at least build strength or train for/provide “safety” maybe a reflection of modern fears of everything in the world. But somehow, a sword just doesn’t seem to “cut” it for me when it comes to lead paint!

I used to fence, but I haven’t for awhile. The place where I went was really competitive, and once you got good enough, all they wanted was for you to be there every day, practicing for some sort of competition that was three states away. So, I stopped doing that…

I was in karate a couple years ago. I hated it. Well, not always. At first, they were nice, but after you got to green belt they pretty much expected you to make karate your life. And the instructor taught us everything we already knew. He said we were “reviewing” but we reviewed every day until about a week before the test. So, we basically learned what we needed to know after the test. And also… well never mind. Trust me. You don’t want to listen to how much they annoyed me there.

Some people have very severe allergies, though. Some people, if they’re in the same room with a peanut they’ll react. With throat swelling and other not-good things. So they try to avoid that.

Anyway, I don’t think I have any actual allergies, but hsp symptoms and such make pollution and dust not pleasant. Not like I can’t go outside, I do yard work and gardening, but the city especially isn’t great.
Epi pen: I’m “trained” to use epi pens for other people.

Hey Miss Swann? I love soccer too but sadly today my team lost. It was the first time we ever lost. I let in two goals. The only two goals they made. We lost 2-0. It happened last year too. Last year and this year we were on top of the pile. Then we lost. I was in tears. This chant was ringing through my head- last year… expactations… last year… expactations…

I am the only one in my family who does not play soccer MY DOG PLAYS SOCCER!!!! im serious, she gets a toy in her mouth an pats around her little soccer ball with her front paws. It’s adorable but i am soo jealous because (due to my pronness for accidents) i can’t play any sport except for swimming because the water acts as a cusion ( necesse est with me!!!) i tried track but i almost broke my neck when i fell
I used to play goalie yet now my main position is defense. I suck atrunning and junk, so staying at the centre line is pretty good for moi. I’m still one of the best goalies on the team, though.
112 – Ah, disaster preparedness. I was stuck in my dorm yesterday because the lock broke, and I was perfectly prepared. I had a huge stash of Halloween candy, endless Ramen Noodles, and I could have climbed along the ledge into my neighbors’ window, but it was quite a long fall, so my freinds climbed in my window instead.

Well, the current topic says vampires so…
I am writing a story in which the main character gets bitten by a vampire. It’s an HP fanfic.
Humans are fascinated by vampires.Many cultures have one, one way or another. The shadows that lurk at night, seeping in through cracks in windoes to dreenk yoor blud.
I never really knew much about vampires. My school went to see the opera Dracula a few years ago, and I really liked it.

I saw this show on the history channel. The most real vampire in history is whatever her name is the empress. She was obsessed with staying young.She slaughtered young, beutiful girls(like me) and drank and bathed in their blood. Finally she ran out of peasent girls so she started on the daughters of royalty. Now they(the royalty) decided that she had to be stopped. Because she was an empress, they could’nt kill her. So their verdict was that she was that she would be isolated in a room so no more harm could be done. She eventualy went crazy.
Sorry for double posting(I do that a LOT), but a kid bit me. He was annoyed at me for singing this song. We both went to the principal’s office( I was the innocent), and he got suspended. He is still one of my enimies( I have alot).

There’s a Vampire bat exhibit at the Pittsburgh Zoo–you walk through this room which is really dark, except for a few lights, and the bats seem like they’re flying around you. It’s like a tunnel through this big vampire-bat-world. The only thing separating you from them is a bunch of wires (about 2 cm apart). *Mwahahaha*
It’s actually a really cool exhibit. But, then again, this is coming from the person who has Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches as pets.

My only vampire information is from Stephenie Meyers’ books and I’m going to have to go with the werewolves. How perfect to snuggle up with when it’s cold. Also, lack of bloodthirstiness is a definite plus.

Vampires: I was almost named after a vampire. Lestat, from the Anne Rice novels. My mother loves the gor scary vampire books, and if I even let slip that there’s one mentioned in the books I’m reading she has to read it.
Vampires or wearwolves… ‘twould be an epic battle, indeed. Almost as epic as the one between raptors and zombies.
Disasters: I am one of those people who create fake senerios in their head where something terrible happens and then makes a plan as to what they’d do. Seriously. Last week when the band room started literally vibrarting once every few minutes (from constuction right outside), more and more untill the stands started rattling, it really reminded me of the scece in Jurasic park, with the jello. So I thought of all the different ways I could escape (into the band office, through to the choir room, sneak past practice rooms, out the new wing and to safety) and survie.

I’ve read twilight too, and I’ve said before, I think its a good book, but its definitely not something to be obsessed over. It really doesn’t re-define old ideas in a way that is new and interesting, like say, Harry Potter.
Another problem I have is that I’m afraid that Twilight fans will become like the worshipers of *gulp* Eragon, and throw anybody who doesn’t agree with them across the room, and act immature in many ways.
I sincerely hope that I am proved wrong, and it seems from the discussion on this thread and others that I will be.
I think Twilight should get its own thread, since it seems to be encroaching on a large number of threads. Eragon got one, after all.
On the subject of vampires, I’m more of a werewolf person, mostly. I just really like shapeshifters. If vampires could turn into bats, I’d go straight for them. Unfortunately, most modern literature doesn’t present them that way.
Which is why afareet totally pwn.

A good vampire book is In The Forest of the Night. It’s by someone Atwater. It’s not great, but take into acount that it was written by a thirteen year old. It’s a good read.
The BEST werewolf book ever is the Wolving Time.

I’ll start with a bit of a stretch. Has anyone seen pictures of Nigersaurus, the new dinosaur fossil that paleontologist Paul Sereno found in Africa? It had a wide mouth with all its teeth in front, which made its head look like a vacuum-cleaner attachment. Evidently it just swept its head across the ground, gobbling up ferns. The best part of the discovery, to my mind, is that they used a CT scanner to look inside the head and find the balance organs inside its inner ear. From the way they are tilted, the researchers could tell how the animal kept its head pointed most of the time (answer: downward). I think it’s great that they can do that.

Chinchillas live in the Andes mountains, and are used for fur, yes. There are also different types of chinchillas used as domestic pets. I think they’re endangered because of the animal fur industry.

I second the second part of 256. Why wear fur when so many other things are just as warm or “stylish”? Why kill things that didn’t do anything to you just so you can wear something furry? I am sensing some El Stupidoness.

257- I agree. There’s plenty of fake fur that people can wear.
I don’t see the point in hunting. We have other ways of getting food and clothing. Just because our ancestors hunted doesn’t mean we should.
I also despise the fast food industry. I read a book called Chew On This. It was pretty gruesome but I don’t doubt anything in it. They treat the animals horribly, especially in America with the slaughterhouses. Some other countries use gas chambers which are less painful, more sanitary, and faster, but they cost a little more so the dumb people here won’t use them. I think that they should stop focusing on cheap and start focusing on quality.
I don’t have any favorite animals. The only opinions on animals I have are that I would rather own a cat than any other animal and that I am annoyed by camels.
There seems to be a flood of newbies. There must have been a mention of the blog that I missed in the magazine. Or maybe people are looking over old issues.

259- my friend has that book, and lent me it along with post it notes on every possible horrible thing they do to animals. It’s appalling, really. My family is all organic and we buy all our meat free range.
I really don’t care for red meat, since (this is kinda gross) the aftertaste is kinda blood like. Chicken is probably my favorite meat, but I could easily become a vegetarian if I wanted to.

This seems to be going onto the topic of vegetarianism. We have a dying vegetarianism thread, in case you’ve forgotten.

And the Food thread would be very happy to take on a food discussion, as a future topic at the top of this thread suggests people want. People are (sort of) talking about what they have been eating, but the conversation is a tad slow.

259 – I love that kind of stuff! The topic, I mean. My first post on MuseBlog said: “I think you should do something about Fast Food – about where they get their stuff (slaughterhouses, etc) and the diseases you can get. I’m really interested in stuff like that.”
