I used to (and still do) love Campbell’s vegitarian vegtable soup. I always called it “letter soup.” I remember how both my grandmothers made it differently, one of them always adds extera vegetables, alphabet noodles, tomato base, etc… While the other jut makes it straight out of the can following the instructions on the label.

    (23) Not so uncanny (though nice of you to say so); more a case of simple arithmetic: 9 + 4 + an entire blog = a whole troop* of Muses helping me out. (Or maybe that’s multiplication, not addition.)

By the way, Robert came up with the word “Musestrone.”

*Some would say “cult,” but that’s another conversation.

    (3) RtH, making the text fit wasn’t nearly as tricky (or as time-consuming) as making the lettering itself. There isn’t a “Campbell’s soup” font out there, not that I could find, so I had to create or adapt most of the letters.

Then I “warped” the text to fit the can. Warping is kind of like imprinting an image onto silly putty and stretching it into shape. Of course, one has to be careful not to overdo.

A filter called “Liquify” (which I didn’t use in the Musestrone picture) allows for endless refinements:

Of course, one has to resist temptation. It’s easy to get carried away.

  34. Unintended Pun (10 spdzk points?) says:

I just got back from school.
I had a bad day today in English. My english teacher seemed like the best teacher ever at the beginning of the year, but now he’s driving me mad. Today we were talking about the writer of The Devil and Daniel Webster, and he said it was written in the 30s. He asked what was happening at the time. A girl slipped and said the civil rights movement then quickly tried to correct herself, but my teacher was already talking. He complained for nearly 5 minutes of our class time about how our generation is egotistic and believes that history began with themselves, just because we forgot when the Great Depression was for a few seconds. I raised my hand, and the following conversation happened…

Teacher:And you are the most egotistic generation so far…you don’t even know the history of your own country…
Me: *raises hand* Well, first off the event was the Great Depression, and I think that’s why we still have history class, because we don’t know everything about history.
Teacher:Well didn’t you have American history last year?
Girl: We did the revolution and…*gets interrupted*
Teacher: Well then if you’re all such experts on the American Revolution you should know a bit more tomorrow when we talk about Nathan Hale.

AHHHH! I am so mad at him right now! He’s been doing this for weeks. Every time there’s a bit of history we don’t know he calls us the lazy generation or egotistic or something else like that. I just want to throw my desk across the room and run out.

Every generation thinks that they are better than the ones before it and after it. Even if our generation really is the worst one yet, insulting an honors english class won’t make the future any better. All he is doing is making us resent school.

This isn’t the only teacher at my school who talks to us like this. Last year in middle school I was really excited that I would be going to high school. I thought it would be interesting and the teachers would be good. All year I’ve just been hearing about how the generation in high school right now is a bunch of lazy egomaniacs from the people who are supposed to be forming us into the leaders of tomorrow. When they tell us that we’re worthless mounds of flesh that’s what we’ll become. They keep wasting class time complaining about us instead of trying to get us interested in learning about things that could make us better people and reverse the stereotypes.

Even though I know what they’re saying isn’t always true I’m really starting to believe it and it’s scaring me.

34: That’s not true. Don’t believe a word he says. And somehow I just don’t think it’s even possible for a whole generation to be egotistic. Epecially since, as kids, this generation hasn’t had a chance to really do much in the world yet. You can’t judge a book by it’s cover, and you can’t judge a flower before it blooms. Hopefully that was in some way slightly motivating, but I’m not so sure- I was up all night and now I’m really tired. *yawn*

And then there are people who seem to like hugs, and the people who walk up to you in the hallway and say, “Would you like a hug?” (These people frighten me.) And then there are the people like me, who appreciate hugs but cannot initiate one.

if it weren’t 11:30 at night i’d go play my bass but i think there might be a few objections to that.

same for the trumpet, plus my lip’s prolly done for the day. we sightread this really hard song in band, and it had a solo cornet part, so it was just me playing all these eighth notes and things in cut time with the woodwinds about 2-4 notes above the rest of the trumpet section. bleh. and then after school i had to go practice my solo+ensemble song with the piano, and then i came home after torch and practiced it again because i can’t freaking breathe right.

anyway. that’s a fun story for you…not that you care…

speaking of bass guitars (yes, we were, look above all the trumpet stuff), you all know (of course) that andy now has a bass guitar? (because you follow ebeth’s life so devotedly. true story-direct result of me letting him play my bass at the xmas jam and then lending it to him for a few days afterward…). Well now michelle’s getting one, and ebeth feels totally special for enlightening everybody about the pure pwnage that is bass guitar. even though she still sucks at bass clef, which she doesn’t understand, because it shouldn’t be that easy to forget five years of piano…

‘nother true story, ebeth is as we speak loading robin hood men in tights onto her ipod. wewt! that makes almost 2 gigs of video, with count of monte cristo, four invader zim episodes, and 9 flight of the conchords episodes. plus a little less than 25 gigs of music and a smattering of “other” (she’s not quite sure what that is, since she doesn’t think she has any documents or anything saved on there…unless her nano is still backed up there…heeyyy, that might be it) puts her in the MB for space left. she’ll prolly only keep one movie at a time on there though so she can get more spiffeh music.

Why not set aside a weekend day, let people know in advance that you’d like to be left alone, and figure things out? Get enough sleep so that you can think clearly, have a nice, slow day, and think about how to resolve the problems that are troubling you. Focus not on the problems themselves, for that will most likely make you upset (problems can overwhelm) but rather come up with a solution for each one. We here care about you and your mental well-being, and it upsets me to see anyone in your situation. Nobody should ever hate themselves. (Hypocrite alert! At least I have vague reasons to.) 132- Same for me, there are 3 sophs in my math class and the rest juniors/seniors. They are often more fun to talk to then people in my grade, as I don’t know them as well.

I had a horrible first week of HS, but it gets better. Really, it does. The chance to meet people not in your year is oddly refreshing, even for introverts like moi.

On Spanish- Ha, I think I just did poorly on that final actually. We can only start spanish in HS, I am in spanish II and plan to complete all four years if I can. If I figure out how to phrase something and say it I am good with pronunciation and stuff, but I have to think about grammar more than I’d like too. I had such a bad day. You honestly wouldn’t believe. Sequence of events:
5th Period: Math. Always demotivating, but whatever. I’ll survive. Even though my average is 94.6 percent or whatever and I’ve a feeling it’s about to get lower. (Erk!) I just have to scrape by until the 31st!
6th Period: English. The high point of my day. I worked on my Honors project and we read Annabel Lee and The Bells! Which made me very happy. Then after class got out I scoured the room for the English project that I remember doing and did not get credit for. I didn’t find it. I’m going to ask Mrs. T if I can redo it.
Lunch: Boring. I read my book, which is a joyless activity when you have to take notes, ate an orange, examined the lunch I made and forgot yesterday, and decided not to eat it since rice spoils so quickly and it wasn’t refrigerated yesterday till I got home at six.
7th Period: P.E. Pretty bad. Could be worse, I guess. It could have been longer.
Pep Assembly: Very, very very, very boring. And loud. And hot. And crowded. And long. And I don’t know the tune to our Alma Mater. And I don’t like to yell. Ugh.
Re/Ad: My thought process: Yay schedules! *waits long time for her schedule because her name begins with W* *gets schedule* Yay! Oh wait. Digital Photography? But– but– Advanced Drama! *fumes*
Tutorial: What do you do in a fifteen minute tutorial? Go to English with the intention of reading your book and end up not reading at all.
Rehearsal: The director was still sick, and I couldn’t find the Stage Manager, and all the cast went home, and I was about to miss the only remaining bus, so I left.
Bus Ride: Talked with Brenda about schedules, worked out a plan. Was about to get off the bus, when the bus driver informed me that next time I would need a note. ARGH!!!! I was informed, when I started high school –and I even think I was informed by a teacher (the principal?) – that in high school you could take any bus you chose. *is mad at bus driver* *is glad she doesn’t ride that bus* *is sorry Brenda does*

And then I went to my mother’s music thing which I really didn’t care for much, got a headache, felt as though everyone regarded Opal and I as related entities, and came back cranky and miserable. And Mother automatically left to go get her new bike (did I mention she had a bike?) from where she left it earlier in the evening, and I argued with her, and now I’m sitting here crying. It isn’t fair! I don’t have any way to release my frustration. I can’t yell at Mother, I don’t really want to yell at Opal, and I just feel . . . deeply unhappy.

244- I made a criticism of Walden a couple of weeks ago. I didn’t write it down, it was verbal. Anyway, I talked about how people use Thoreau as an example, but the fact is, Walden isn’t applicable anywhere! It’s time for a lecture with Professor Grant:

Once there was a bloke with a neckbeard named Thoreau. Thoreau had quite a lot of money, stuff, and rich and powerful friends. Being bored, Thoreau gave away most of his stuff to his friends and went to live in the forest for a while. Thoreau didn’t need to worry because he had money already, and if he was in a spot of bother, he could count on his friends to bail him out. Thoreau didn’t really do much other than chores, fish, and generally be lazy. After sitting on his bum for about two years, Thoreau had the nerve to write about it and tell other people that it was awesome.

The fact is, that was a very rare thing. The majority of people nowadays are too busy concentrating on making a living, something Thoreau didn’t have to do, and those that could live in the woods like that have more expensive ways to waste time. So either people are too poor to do so, or they’re too rich to care about it. Therefore, it can never happen again, and it’s odd that it happened in the first place. Quo erod demonstratum, Thoreau you jerk.

I try to be a good person. I try to be the best person I possibly can. I try to help people with issues in their lives, I try to move towards a better society. I type long consolatory posts to try and make people feel better, I type other long posts in the hopes that people will find them intellectually stimulating. In my everyday life, I ask if there’s anything I can do to help. And life throws crap at me. I get into one little altercation in self-defense: if you attack me, I will defend myself. I’m not going to sit idly by and let myself be slandered. And then the accusations come. Somehow, whenever I get into an argument, it’s always somehow my fault. A common scene: I try to defend myself or a friend, then people who have no idea what’s going on come and say, “Stop it, Grant. Leave them alone, Grant. You’re such a jerk, Grant.” And this sort of thing makes me wonder why I even open my mouth anymore. I should not talk for a week, see who notices. See who misses me. I’m not talking about just here, I’m talking about my entire life. A week of silence. The sounds of silence, thank you Paul and Art. My tongue beginning to rust like that of Chief Bromden. Would anyone notice? Would anyone tupping notice? Once while at NSLC, I accidentally slept in, missed a lecture, and nobody noticed. The story of my life. Why didn’t anyone go, “Hey, where’s Grant? He usually has something to contribute. I haven’t seen him this morning. Huh, that’s weird. Where could he possibly be?”

♥ USECGO. it’s frustrating, we know. you’re one of the few people still hanging in there with lovely essays for us to read on here :D

re walden-haven’t actually read it yet (should get around to that) but it seems like the point wasn’t whether it was practical or even advisable, but just that people can actually survive without being materialistic freaks. although true, he didn’t really have a problem with security, most people would be more worried about their future. so no, it’s not really practical at all. especially since there are only so many fish in the world. he took it to extremes to illustrate his point, but that doesn’t mean the point isn’t still valid. walden seems more of a symbolic action to me than an actual practiceable lifestyle.]

so i had solo+ensemble yesterday. got a 2. not bad, but i could’ve done better. of course i only had like 3 weeks to practice it, but even so i had played it better practicing than at the actual thing. which always happens, i suppose, but it’s still annoying. plus i completely messed up the chromatic scale-she asked for F chromatic, which i knew but it threw me off, and i just got completely lost. i was so mad at myself after that…but anyway, yeah.

My dad has a friend named Wally who tried to live like Thoreau and he said it doesn’t work. To explain the kind of person Wally is, I’m going to tell a short story. Wally is a teacher, and one day he heard two of his female colleagues talking about how important their hair dryers were. Wally said, “Hair dryers aren’t that important.” They said, “Our hair dryers are as important to us as your car is to you.” Wally said, “Oh yeah? I’ll go without my car for as long as you go without your hair dryers.” Wally went without his car for over a year, just to prove a point.

319-I was afraid that would happen, that’s why I stayed out of it. We do value you posting, but what I think my friends were trying to say was that something random or silly wouldn’t really help the threads get any farther in their development. Even the silly threads are on topic. There is no truly “random” thread, even this thread has a point.

It sounds as if you are resolved in your decision to stop posting for a week, and I won’t pester you about that. But even if you don’t post, please come on every once in a while to lurk.

That’s a SUGGESTION. I’m trying hard not to be bossy here.

I’m sorry about your grandmother, it’s the same situation with me. Both my grandpa’s died, without getting to really know me, and my grandma’s are both pretty sick. That’s one of the reasons for the random thread, you can vent to us, and we may be able to help you through some hard times. MuseBlog certainly helped me a lot a while ago.

Going to another school can also be hard, I guess. I’ve never moved in my life, so I wouldn’t know. But I see what it is to lose most of the friends you’ve spend five days a week with for most of the year, or two years. But I’ll let other MuseBloggers ramble on that…

(If this is a double post, sorry. Writing long lengthy posts can take time.)

Sometimes people offer points on certain threads for answers/feedback to their question/comment, RtH has done that a couple of times on the Just Friends thread. POSOC began offering them when he started them, and people who got them from him gave theirs away, or traded for other points. I had a couple of spdzk points a while ago because I answered a question on the R&R thread, but I gave them away when I lengthened my name. When I shortened it again, I gave half to La Mort, and she gave me a whole.

Popping right into the middle of a discussion about not having enough time seems appropriate :D Of course, I have had a bit of time, and actually have lurked here and there, but, at least for me, posting is a long process. First I try to read or skim as many posts as I can on the thread. Then, I figure out what I want to say, and start writing the post out. Then I constantly go back over what I have written, and make a final edit at the end. It takes a while, considering the amount of text typed! :) So, there’s how I type posts, including this one obviously! *Bows*

On the whole generations thing: I’m generation 11, and I have posted a good bit and know a lot of people. 381. Alice says:

378- Well, for one thing it’s not real snow. It ice and snow and hail all frozen together and it’s less than an inch thick, For another, I’ve had far too much real snow in the past couple of years to enjoy it now.
Maybe I should move to England.

And don’t look at me. As I said, I’m (fairly) new to the area, so I have no idea. Since I’ve been here, though, we’ve had a lot of rain for the past couple winters, and what snow we have tends to get rained/melted away pretty quickly.

Thank you all so much. When I need help, it’s nice that I can log on and talk to people I’ve never met, and be comforted anyway. But there’s a correction I have to make: I was most certainly not cutting. Cutting is with a knife or scissors or razor blade. Cutting makes deep gouges in your skin. Scratching, on the other hand, is what I was doing. It brought up, like, three droplets of blood. And plus, unless you were staring at my forearm, you wouldn’t even notice the scratches. SCRATCHES. Cutting makes it sound so… ugh.

    *hugs all around*

I also have another video that I have to make for next Monday that has about the first 45 seconds out of 5 minutes done, and the rest hasn’t even been planned.
And I do not want to go to school tomorrow because I hate my project group and we might have projects all day tomorrow.

463- Hugs? DRINKS ALL AROUND! IT’S LIKE A WEDDING! I love weddings. I wish I could go to one. Where I knew people. The only weddings I’ve been to are two of my mom’s college friend’s kids, and my second cousin. I knew nobody anywhere. I hope my friend Mark’s plans with his girlfriend work out, because Mark is a great guy, and also weddings kick ass. Even though I find high school romances ludicrous, and romances where the girl is a freshman in college and the bloke is a senior in high school, I hope it works out well for Mark, because Mark is a great guy. I’m lucky to have a friend like Mark.

I’m rambling, a sure sign of my having nothing to do. I’ve been reading quotes from sit-coms on Wikiquote for about an hour, and I just realized that my eyebrows are furrowed in a manner that make me look insane. I wonder if I am insane. It’d be nice to know that I was insane, so if people look at me oddly I can produce a copy of a medical certificate affirming that I am, in fact, insane. I love all of you guys on here. I think a lot of you are better friends to me than my friends I’ve met, and I feel like I can talk to you and not worry about being judged. It’s so great to have somewhere where I can talk about things I like and people actually have heard of it. It’s amazing that I can come on here and write and get actual criticism instead of just bashing. In a weird way a lot of you on here seem more real to me than my friends at school.
I really hope that all the people having problems right now can get through them. I cut myself for over 2 years, and I have been trying to stop for a while. In March it will be a whole year since I last cut myself. Even though I haven’t been on MB that whole time it’s really helped a lot. OK, I am getting on for another one of my few minute chances on the blog. My mom has been needing the computer a lot lately, which of course seriously cuts down on my time on it!!

Uh-oh. Are people still feeling sad? *Pies* Well, I must say, I notice everyone, especially when I can read their posts before having to get off of the computer. A lot of these people seem to be saying they feel they don’t have any other friends, etc. This is why I requested a separate “Just Friends” thread a while back. But people either forgot to come, never came, or said I was a wimp because I wanted the thread separate from the romance thread. Obviously, the thread would have a great deal of use if people wouldn’t be afraid to go there. The reason people say they like the blog and it kept them going and such is because we (USUALLY) listen and are nice and don’t pick on you for things you say. The Just Friends thread could be a great place for this.

Now. Many people are nice to me on the blog, but there are a good few who, for whatever reason, have made the blog itself not such a friendly place for me, besides whatever happens in real life. Just a few examples, some of which some of you may not be aware:

One of the earliest incidents occurred when Fridgy was banned. I am the reason for that, so if you do miss him after he then later left forever, here’s something to hate me for. Anyway, on the religions thread, I complained that the comments were getting pretty mean, and Fridgy promptly told me I was being a wimp, and that I should get used to it. That’s what caused the GAPAs to ban him for a week.

Then (I think this happened after, I’m not sure) I mistook La Mort (Then Raven of the Hawk) for a boy. That was not a good idea. So that started her off against me, rightly or wrongly, it happened.

A while later, people jumped on me for complaining about my circumstances with kids where I live. They thought I was criticizing the public school system, when I was just looking for a little understanding, just like everyone else here is right now. That was not a pleasant experience.

And most recently, I posted what was supposed to be a joke about the stores getting valentines in so early. Most people didn’t get the joke, and instead got seriously angry. Considering something that was directly trying to be a joke that would get you to laugh, I was very unhappy about the responses, and Robert, Kagy, and a couple of others were the only people who really said they either at least got the joke or were sorry about the responses.

Also, as a result of that recent incident, many people jumped on me for my signature at the bottoms of my posts. They somehow thought it was insulting that I thought they couldn’t look two inches up to the top of the post. No! It is just handy and nice!

If you want to talk about insulting, consider the above listed items. And there were many smaller incidents that aren’t sticking in my head so much, thankfully perhaps.

So if anyone is handing out consolation pies, I might take a few. I certainly would never even consider killing myself, and as people already know, I’m the happiest person on the blog. Thus the happy smilies and the continuing happy attitude, despite the above listed incidents. I don’t mean to sound grumpy or angry, but I really want people to realize that the blog is overall nice for me, but that it isn’t a completely great place for me if I wanted consolation, or even just wanted to not be insulted. And sorry for the long post, I hope you have enjoyed it, and will consider what you say to me if you have done something of the sort above in the past. Perhaps it is my happy attitude that attracts criticism, but I hope this post will prevent any future troubles.

515~ I’m sorry that you’ve had a rough time on here. The first times I really remember reading your posts was on the Kokonvention threads when the Washington, D.C. Kokon. was being planned. I also remember thing that you would probably be the first person to address me when we got there, I was right, too!
Sometimes I’ve been grumped at on here, and I’ve had my times when going on MB meant being hated and usually ending up crying afterwards, but as a whole I think that the musers are a pretty close group that really does care about each other.
And as far as being upset at you for Fridgy? When I did read his posts they usually upset me. Honesty and politeness hand in hand is a skill. “Honesty” in the form of insults and narrow mindedness is juvinile.

    My day:
6:00 – Alarm clock went off.
6:30 – I dragged myself out of bed.
    7:40 – I walked to the dentist.
8:10 – I realized, as my mouth began to go numb, that I had a presentation in English. And I was going to have to speak.
9:45 – I arrived at school and got my tardy slip, only to discover that it was a C Day. I went to Math, was informed that it was still second period, and got to Acting just as the bell rang. ARGH!
6th Period – My mouth was still far too numb to use, and I was forced to postpone my presentation. In fact, only one person did their presentation. He was really good, though.
Lunch – I ate a piece of pizza and my filling started to ache.
Spanish – The speaking tests were still going on which meant we had to be quiet but didn’t actually have any work, so Brenda and I passed notes all period. They got very chaotic.
    Example:
    Brenda: *throws desk at you*
    Me: *pies* HA! HA! HA!
    Brenda: *eats pie*
Me: You’re not supposed to eat it!
Rehearsal – I was very hungry, and I knew everyone’s lines even though they didn’t. *winces*
After Rehearsal – I was moping about being hungry and I thought that Daddy would pick me up when he dropped Opal off for her concert, which was, much to my dismay, an hour away. So I was looking gloomy, and H and E took upon themselves to comfort me, something which very strangely seemed to involve petting my head. Then they gave me a ride home, and my father showed up. Apparently he had gone to the school and I wasn’t there. Oops.
    Now – MuseBlogging and happy.

Sam: Wow, I would have said at least 15!
Gimanator-I actually would say that’s what I would have thought…
    TMFA-oh, maybe 14 or 15, or a bit higher…
Speller73-I might have said you were 13, but I can see twelve. Again, nobody should think I’m saying anyone isn’t mature or anything, but it’s the way you sound when you post more than anything.

Does someone care to guess my age? It is probably known by most people from different threads now, but what would you say?

Thank you again for the pies and thoughts, everybody! I won’t get grumpy about that again, I just thought I would list those things out so hopefully the blog will never see any such problems, directed at anyone…

MF-It’s funny, before the kokonventions, I didn’t actually know many people on the blog enough to look for their posts a lot, so I hadn’t really focused on your posts either. Of course now they stand out a lot!!

I have to go in a minute, but hopefully I will be able to come on tomorrow morning to catch up on a few threads (Notably Ships’ Logs, IBCF and Kagy, I have not abandoned you, I will return!!)

As for guessing ages, I’m 15.

For once, I’m actually going to enjoy history class. Next Tuesday or Wednesday, my group et moi get to teach the class for half the period. The general subject is reform movements in the pre-Civil War time period. My group is doing ‘moral’ reforms- education reforms, prison reforms, the Prohibition movement, and the Second Great Awakening. So we had to figure out a creative way that we want to present this. We don’t want to bore the class. So I came up with the idea (I’m not just being egotistical) that we each pick a person who basically symbolizes the movement that we researched. I’m going to be Dorothea Dix, Ben will be Horace Mann, and Chloe and Dan will be…people. Anyways, we’re each going to make up five questions, and put together a little quiz, and the people in the class have to come and talk to us to try and get the answers to the questions. Everybody who gets all of the questions right gets candy.
You guys probably don’t care, but I think that it’s a cool idea.
