Okay, so um, look, I was really immature back then, and absolutely psyched at turning 13, and umm…Nope, nothing quite forgives the horror of quadruple posts with bad punctuation.
…I should go off to die in a pit now, shouldn’t I.

But really, nobody go anywhere around February-sometime in April or May 2009. Those were my most embarrassing days.

      1. The GAPA translated a grab dot by link into an image. It’s just an image posted in a comment.

… If it helps, imagine that for some reason, polar bears embarrass FantasyFan, and I had posted a link to a picture of a polar bear, and the GAPA had embedded the image into my comment instead of posting the link.

  6. 2- WHATEVER THAT IS? How dare you insult that, my dear, my lovely, my poor amazing forgotten story…
Only kidding, only kidding…but it’s well worth reading if you have the time. The sheer madness of it all, the days of nothingness, the confusion and double-posts and the stubborn determination of the writers to keep it going at all costs–THAT is what RRRs should be like. Memories, memories…Oh E2MB, GreenQween, Cat’s Meow…wherefore hast thou forsaken us?

I think the first time I clicked I got to the Alternate something…I think it was the RPG–not old enough or interesting enough to spark memories. And then I got to an ancient chameleon thread where they were talking about alcohol…and then I just clicked it and got to Books and Reading–which was where I WANTED to go, only this was 2008.3 and I wanted the new one.

  7. I got a December 2006 discussion (precursor to the chameleon thread, right?) thread. It was interesting to see what the blog was like back then. Not everyone capitalized, and yet it didn’t seem very obnoxious…

Long after I’d stopped posting on that particular adventure, and indeed, MB in general. Then given gradster’s post about me it was probably for the best that I stopped posting and came back a bit more mature less random sugar-high …Or at least able to punctuate better

        1. Maybe October 2008? Something around then. It was called something about “Reading, ‘Riting, ‘Rithmatic Randomness”, and it had a picture of a slightly modified Muse Academy bumper sticker as the picture. It was fairly early in the thread, I didn’t read much.

Little did I know then, that just a mere 13 months later……I’d watch my first DW episode an become a DW fangirl. Wow. And to think that I remembered so very little of that conversation, including a comment by Rainbowstar on the 3rd random thread that month, posting a very brief blurb about the episode Blink. Which is now one of my favorite episodes, but when I watched it I didn’t remember her comment at all–and since that was September and I was at school, I would ahve read every single post on all of those random threads that month……..

To think that when I started watching, it was just a vague “I’m pretty sure I’ve heard this mentioned on the ‘blog once or twice, and Alice likes it, something with a phone booth, but I don’t know much else…..” And I think I remembered a comment by Alice wondering if she would go off with the Doctor like Rose did, and how she’d explain it all to her mum. XD

    1. Craunch the marmoset! I’ve pulled that up many a time when I need a quick laugh.

As to your question… What do you mean? The only idea I have about what you’re saying is, for example, the Spanish tú versus ud. and the French tu versus vous…

I’d assume informal no matter what you’re talking about, though.

    2. I loved that article in Muse. I think I actually wrote a letter to Muse at some point with the threat “publish this letter, or I will craunch your marmosets.” Or perhaps I only thought I did.
I think I’d address all of the MBers with “tu” (in French), and probably the GAPAs as “vous.”

      Pie 0
      Squid 0
  21. 60.1, 60.2- Yes, except in Elizabethan it’s ‘You’ vs. ‘Thou’. I was thinking about sorting out a complex system where non-paleos always use formal for paleos, etc, but it would be much simpler, and rather more fun, to call everyone ‘thou’ except GAPAs.
Here’s an informative post on the thread which I was taken to, detailing Elizabethan.

Anyway, now I was taken to an announcement prompting Musers to go to the then-current Neophyte thread, from January 2008. That happened to be the month during which ‘Neophyte’ was put into usage. And, of course, the month during which a few Neophytes came.
It also led to the discovery that gnomes can, apparently, turn text pink.

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
    1. Uhh, I think it’d be ‘thou’ versus ‘you’. As far as I was taught, ‘thou’ used to be the informal, used to convey a feeling of intimacy (or disrespect, as with using ‘tú’ or ‘tu’ inappropriately- in a situation in which one should use ‘ud.’ or ‘vous’), while ‘you’ was the formal.

      -A

      Pie 0

        1. Well, I don’t even remember en’s name now and I think it would be unfair to mention it, but a lot of people wrote that way back then. Capitalization/grammar/punctuation doesn’t seem to be as important during that “era”, and the quality of the posts weren’t really valued the way they are now.

          Pie 0
          Squid 0
          1. Yes, people did type like that then. I think part of the reason that people are supposed to use good grammar/ spelling/ punctuation now is because it’s easier to read, but also because it makes people put more thought into their post (or at least it looks like it).

            Pie 0
            Squid 0

          3. -rolls eyes-
Not EVERYONE wrote like that back then. Just as now, there were the waves of neophytes who came on with no knowledge of capitalization–and I wasn’t around for that thread but I think that might have been really in the thick of it. The only reason people get yelled at for it now is because of the PoPoPo back in 2007 who decided that no one shall double post, all persons shall use proper grammar, and anyone who didn’t comply would get a stern talking-to and be fined virtual choklit. They were in the right, I won’t deny, but I found them pointless and irritating and still do. Most neophytes are still young and obnoxious but I still don’t agree that Muser’s are a sort of elite group without the flaws of the “normal” kids who are shunned and cast out because of their oddities and all of us are unique and all of us are brilliant and all of us are respectful and open-minded and anyone who isn’t isn’t worth talking to…because that’s not very open-minded.

            Rant over.

              Pie 0
              Squid 0
              1. I’ve been feeling somewhat like that. Not exactly, but close. I see the point of not double posting as a general guideline for Neophytes, but once you’re past the stage where you’re inclined to post endless streams of smilies, you can shed the restrictive skin of no double posting. Not that you should intentionally do so, but if you forget something, have another thought, want to add to what you said, feel free to do so whether or not it’s a double post.
I really don’t see the point in apologizing for the double post because you replied to your own post. Or because you replied to a post directly above your own. Replies just somehow don’t really count, to me.
…I think I had another profound point to make, but I don’t remember it.

                Pie 0
                Squid 0
              2. I honestly don’t mind when people Double Post, if they forgot something, or they need to make a correction, or whatever. I do mind, however, when (this is usually for ‘phytes) they type “Hi. Today I had school.” and then have another post “Then I went to play practice” and “I had a lot of fun. Do you guys participate in any drama programs?” when it was not too difficult to include all of that in one post. I also agree with Errata about the replies.

            3. Alice- Oops. Sorry, I meant to say “more people typed like that then”. And you’re right about all Musers not being elitists and everything else you said.
gradster- I think that’s a coincidence, not irony. It would be ironic if you were double posting saying that you dislike double posting. Sorry, it just gets on my nerves when people mix those two up. (If your post was ironic after all, then I’m wrong, which is ironic, or possibly isn’t, but by now, I’m fairly certain that if I’m wrong there will be some irony in this post somewhere, and I can pretend it was on purpose.0
