  1. I think that this thread shouldn’t be a competition for the next one. In fact, no thread should be like that. It isn’t very fun to read all sorts of “OMG!!! PART ___ IS COMING!!!!11!!! SQUEEE!!!!11!!!1!!one!!” I would much rather hear comments and thoughts on life and random events that happened to you, you know, conversation.

So bring on the conversation, fellow musebloggers!

  2. 1-Haha…nice. Thanks for making a Part 4…would you ever let Fridgey and I post little videos? Or something like it? If it was about Muse? Just asking.

  5. I still want to be part of the PoPoPo. And, something that people have been saying on new threads: can we try to keep it under control?

With my voting phrase I am trying to get PPP to change his/her name. However, I felt that I could do even more with the sentence.

  6. I ♥ Earth Day! Yay!

Yesterday, I passed my referee training class, went on a hike (it was muddy but gorgeous), and saw a play (or, as my sister’s friend said, “skit-athon”) that my friend was in at a cafe. It was very fun. Yay. I’m very tired now, though, because the play was loooong.

  7. (8) Good for you, Margaret! Now that you’ve passed the training, what’s the next step?

  8. 9 ~ I’ll start by refereeing U-10 games (which is eight and nine year old kids…the U is for under). The first games are on Saturday but I have NYSSMA that day, and the Kids’ Classic (which I’m not doing) is the next Saturday, so they cancelled matches that day, so I’ll be starting in three weeks I guess. I’m looking forward to it – little kids are fun, but I’m a bit worried about the parents.
The cool thing is that after I ref U-10 for a bit, I can move up to U-12 for some games, which means I can ref my little sisters’ matches.

  9. what tha’ hell is wrong with twizzlers? this is the random thread, right? RIGHT?!!??!?

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  10. (11) Random, not pointless. Posting the word “twizzlers” out of nowhere does not a comment make. If you will notice from several remarks on this thread already, as well as elsewhere, MBers are trying to restore a more conversational tone to this thread, after Part 3 became bogged down with an overflow of posts devoted to keeping score and other disruptions.

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  11. Okay. I will not continually post in order to get to a fifth random thread.

1 – You should do that on all the threads! It would save a lot of pointless posting!

    Pie 0

  12. Conversation? Spiffyroo! What should we converse about? Personally, i’m not all that fond of twizzlers. The only gummy type things i like are gummy bears and swedish fish.

  13. 15-actually i’d say the opposite…it’s only a swear word if you’re religions. Because honestly, how strong a word is it if you don’t believe in it? (not calling jewish people and other religons that don’t believe in hell unreligious though)

But then, there’s not much point to swear words anyway.

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  14. 13 – i was enjoying myself. twizzlers are tasty. i wanted to inform others of my joy.

17 – not much point? anymore than there is in “dude” or “w00t”.

  23. 31- Psychology textbooks. I read them too often. I’m also a bit of a sadist, but I’m working on that. Really. Oh, and screwing over sleep to do odd things [read, hw] at the wee hours of the morning. And playing really ancient compy games. Majesty, Pharaoh, and misc. Magic Schoolbus games. I am a huuuge dork, yes? LOL. Not to mention the Romance and Relationships thread. But I have an excuse for that!

    I really tell too much…

One more thing: Personal Jesus, by Manson. LAWL. I’m a cynic like that…

Okay, kiddies, while I, personally, have no qualms with any sort of profanity, (A) some people here do, and (B) this is a blog [forum, really, but that’s beside the point] for fans of a kids’ mag, and it’s supposed to be “family friendly” and the like, which implies no profanity. So can we all just be respectful of that? It’s not asking much, thanks.

Hmm, Little League season started yesterday. Those of you who were here at this time last year know what that means… *pulls out random book, grinning stupidly*

36: Ha, that reminds me of a spoof my friends were planning on doing of a brand of protein water called K2O. Obviously the brains behind that marketing scheme have not passed first year chemistry, as drinking potassium oxide would be very, um, explosive. ;-)

42: Nope, after Honors Chem I decided that was definitley enough for me. I’m staying on a steady path, for now: one… year… of each… science. PhysicalChemistryPhysicsBiologyDone. Random:
    having no specific pattern, purpose, or objective;
lacking any definite plan or order or purpose; governed by or depending on chance

    Synonyms:
chance, accidental, haphazard, arbitrary, unsystematic, unplanned, unintentional

    Pointless:
having no purpose, use, or sense, or any positive or beneficial effect

    Synonyms:
useless, futile, senseless, meaningless, worthless, stupid, inane, obtuse

    Does that help?

    (56) No. We thankfully had our science projects at the beginning of the year. Mine was fun though! I did one of the expeirments described in Muse. I did tests to figure out if people showed peer pressure or not. The results were’nt very fun though. They were incredibly sad.

  66. (91) Please let’s not start that again.

(98-103) Yesterday we were discussing the meaning of “pointless.” These posts could serve as examples. One of them by itself might be acceptable, but 6 posts in a row people have to scroll past to resume the conversation is a bit much. It clutters the thread and drains the fun out of it for many other bloggers.

Comments 94-96 are not much better. You are saved from having 12 posts in a row only by agagabagabag’s one comment. If you’re bored, use your time to think of something meaningful or entertaining to say. Or think about how you might combine several comments into one.

You make plenty of worthy contributions to the blog, but the junk posts sometimes drown out what you have to say.

He meant for it to be published in the magazine, but it didn’t make the cut, so the webmasters put a little link to it in a message in archive 1 of letters to the Gaboomba. I thought MuseBloggers might want easier access, so here’s a link to it: https://musefanpage.com/NewFiles/colonizing_mars.html

  82. while we’re on chemistry, i have a story to tell. so, someone i know was in chem class and the teacher wrote an equation on the board. so, the equation was [P x OR x N], and he wrote it up on the board in equation style: PORN. everybody started cracking up and he couldn’t tell what was happening until someone pointed it out to him.

    just complete randomness.

BTW, there’s a new Names & Labels thread. thanx, OEADs!

  84. 48- no science projects this year! yahoo! last year i did mine on, um, idk but it was a bunch of pennies swinging in bags on different lenghts of string
70- my random collection would be a collection of all the random outbursts that happen in my life like: girl 1 made a paper tortoise and gave it to me. guy 1 stole it and made it into a bird. I then took it back and started 2 unfold it. guy 1 stole it back, but ripped it. He put the ripped part in my fruit. He said the paper was a dollar so he calls guy 2 over and says: do you want a dollar and guy 2 says: for what? guy 1 says: nothing and throws paper at guy 2. Guy 2 realizes that it is not a dollar and throws it back to guy1. Just then guy3 walks buy collecting garbage. Guy 1 throws paper to garbage man and when garbage man leaves i say: bye bye poor dollar. Girl 2 comes over and says: you gave him a dollar!? Guy 1 says well, girl 1 gave this paper tortoise to… well u see the point…

OR… Don’t let the lunch lady stab you

    OR…does orange rhyme with doorhinge?

OR… We took a plane out to hollywood, bought a rent-a-car, and rear-ended the director of Pirates of the Caribean!

Also… to get back to randomness (but not pointlessness) Does anybody else have agendas? aka assignment books, or place to write hw down? I decorate mine every month and this month I put a pic of Feather on the front! Feather is my favorite muse!!!!

What r ur guys’ favorite muses????

  93. 130-teehee I had to take the ACT a while ago to get into CTY (center for talented youth AKA nerd camp). For the essay, we had to write about ******** oh no I can’t say it!!! Then I would be violating the uber-scary packet of forms you have to sign saying you won’t tell anyone what’s on the test for a realllllllllly long time. Oh dear…well anyway, I thought we would get to write about somefink inspiring but ********* is just boring. PLUS it doesn’t even apply to me because I may be taking the test in a room full of seniors trying to get into colledge but I am in seventh grade. During the break the girl sitting next to me asked, “How old ARE you???” and then every one there thought I was some kinda freaky genius child. Which I am not. Although I did score higher than 97 percent of every one else on math and 95 percent on the english.

Question: does that make me a freaky nerd person? What is your opinion on nerds? Is it ok to be a nerd? Cool to be a nerd? What kinds of nerds are there?

P.S. do you think I can talk about the question on the test if I took it in February?

  94. 134- Dubious existance of an element with the abreviation “or” nonwithstanding, that reminds me of something that happened in my chem class. We use std as an abbreviation for standard, and one day my chem teacher, in her heavy indian accent, points at the board and says, “Now, what does std stand for?” After alot of people blushing and a few errupting in fits of giggles, she quickly adds, “In my language, not in your language.” Despite being possible the scariest person on the planet, she also makes 4th period extremely interesting.

  105. All the juicy details you want about this new planet:

They found this planet that’s about the same size as earth orbiting a red dwarf star 20.5 light-years away. The planet is also at the right spot from it’s sun so that it has the same temperature as earth. Scientists are excited because it’s the first planet ever found besides earth [and mars, maybe] that actually might support life! The problem is spaceships would take 75,000 years to get there, which is a bummer.

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  106. Oh my god that’s so funny. I JUST posted on the sci-fi RRR mentioning that. (Maybe they could go there, you know, even though it’s out of the solar system and thousands of years away.

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  107. It’s not really “about the same size.” It’s at least five times as massive as Earth (“at least” because the method used to detect it, changes in the frequency of light from its star caused by the planet’s gravitational pull, can reveal only a minimum mass). But it is probably the smallest exoplanet spotted so far, and it does appear to lie within the star’s habitable zone.

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  108. 179 – Relatively speaking, that is very close, considering the next biggest planet after earth in our Solar System is Uranus, which has a mass of 14.5 earth masses and none of the other exoplanets had ever come close to being as small as earth.

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  109. Not really. It’s just that big planets are easier to detect, so those are the ones astronomers spotted first. There are sure to be all different sizes of planets out there. They’ll spot Earth-sized ones once the special planet-hunter satellites are up and running.

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  110. 181 – Except for the fact that we have all this life on our planet.

If we ever get to that planet, we would have about 10 times the room we have on earth. People could have more space.

    Pie 0
    Squid 0

    Pie 0

  112. (183),

The press release I read said that the radius of the planet is probably about 1.5 Earth radii. That means (1.5)^3 or about 3.4 times the surface area. Five times the mass means five times the gravity, though, so we couldn’t live there. (I’d weigh 900 pounds — no, thanks.)

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  113. 185 – Actually, I don’t think that’s quite true. Jupiter is 230 times Earth’s mass, and gravity there isn’t 230 times stronger.

Hey, I just thought of something. If humans lived in higher levels of gravity, they would have to become strong just to survive, and when they came back to earth, they’d be SUPERPEOPLE!!! duh-duh-duh-dunnnnnnnnnn! duh-duh-duh-dunnnnnnnnnn!

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  114. (189),

That’s true, because you’re farther from the planet’s center of mass. Gravity is proportional to mass over the square of the radius (m/r^2). So on the new planet you’d just weigh 5/(1.5^2) or about 2.2 times as much. Still, even weighing 400 pounds would make me pretty uncomfortable. I don’t think I’d move there.

Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.

I wish I was that old. Hm, that would have me starting in the month I turned twelve. Not bad, except at that point Muse was just a vague memory of my younger days.
My subscription expired when I was nine, and I forgot about Muse ’til one day I said, “Where did all my old Muses go?” or something along those lines. And then I said, “Hmm, wonder if I can check them out from the library?” “Yes, I can!” And now I say, “I MUST renew my subscription before I perish!” The library is not adequate. That is how I missed the LOTR issue, and the cat and dog wars, and the swordfighting issue, and the one about Napoleon, Hornblower, and Captain Kidd. Captain Kidd!!!!! If you are interested in Captain Kidd, you should read Captain Kidd’s Cat, by Robert Lawson; it is too too good.

more Great Moments in MuseBlog History

Here’s a quickie answer — not exactly covering the first four months — but out of the fifteen bloggers who posted on the original random thread, nine of them have been on the blog in the past month or so.

In order of original appearance on MB: Grant O. (USECGO), e~a (Elasse Adael), Lizzie, Chin Tsu, Duncan_Quagmire, Elentari, Pheebs (Phoebe), Axa, and Queen Julietaini (recently appearing as Der Wachtelschlag).

  173. 252, 278- I would love to help you, but I’m still working on seventh grade math in a hopeless attempt to be doing advanced math next year in high school.
I know what radius, circle, inscribed, and triangle mean, but not – that other word. Maybe you draw a circle in the triangle. Nah, that’s kindergarten stuff. *scratches head* This is what happens when a mathematically inept 13-year-old tries to help someone older than her with math. Be warned, all ye-um- people. That fell flat.

Is anyone else here not especially good at math?
I might be, actually, if I bent myself to it. It’s interesting, but I’m bad at grappling with things on paper. (Unless they’re words, of course.) Once I was doing decimals, and I actually felt like I could just pick up the period and move it.

282 (E2MB)- Since we have approximately three days left of April, I highly doubt we’re going to have a Part 5 even if we do go over 300 posts. But I see what you mean. It annoys me to no end when I have an interesting comment at the end of a thread and nobody sees it.

279 (Alice)- I like math, and supposedly I’m good at it. Unless it’s trig or geometry, in which case ULTIMATE FAIL.

222 (Axa)- NO YOU SHALL NOT. Because if you do, I may have to take precautions involving turnips, cough drops, pinking shears, and the Naruto dub. And nobody wants that.

  183. (289),

In an parallel universe, there is a MuseBlog on which MBers pride themselves on putting so much thought into their posts that they don’t need five parts to express everything they have to say on the Random Thread.

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  184. 293- Oh, right. I thought that people had counterparts in parallel universes. Hence, E2MB would have a counterpart, unless he was one of the people that didn’t. Therefore, if he did, he would continue to count the posts like that.

I used to not even come here. Will I ever leave again?

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  185. 293 – Then did you like the Gaboomba better?

I dunno. I’m not going to keep pushing for more random threads (and in that post I wasn’t really) and it might be a little nicer if there were very few posts, but they were long and meaningful.

But unfortunantly, the design of MuseBlog makes it very easy to pointless post. You don’t have to sign up, and you don’t have to re-enter your name and e-mail address every time you post.

The problem with MuseBlog is there are people who treat this like a message board, and people who treat this like a chatroom, so Museblog ends up somewhere inbetween in a muddled mess.

It depends: do we want this blog to be a message board, or a chatroom?

If we want this blog to be a chatroom, then we could do away with moderation and just have bots that block off posts with bad words and have administrators come in once in a while to make sure nobody’s saying bad stuff, and if they are they would be banned.

If we want this blog to be a message board, we could only have the GAPAs come in once a day, so there’d be much less moderation. We could also have a limit to how often you post, say a max of 30 messages per week or no posting within 20 minutes of youself. That could be frustrating to some people, but it would also cause them to pay more attention to what they post, as they had a limited number of posts to make.

Also, we could do both! That sounds like a very daunting idea, but it might not be. All the GAPAs would have to do was to re-open the Gamboomba message board, and then all the serious, long-posting Musers could go there, while the chat-roomy lots-of-little-posting Musers could post on MuseBlog. That way every body would be happy.

I put a lot of thought into this post. I hope it is not immediately bumped off the main page when the Part 5 comes in. If it is, I will cut and paste it there, because I would like all MuseBloggers to seriously think about this. I want MuseBlog’s future to be one that will please everybody. So now I click submit.

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  186. 295- It sounds fine except- what about the RRRs? I guarantee that if there was no moderation I would leave. If it was moderated once a day, the RRRs would get a lot more confusing, and if I didn’t leave entirely, then I would definitely cut back. A lot, if the RRRs didn’t work anymore.
I have added my two cents, now I will wait to see what other people say.
I like the idea of re-opening the Gaboomba, especially if it was made a bit more nagivable.

  187. 294 – I know I did a lot of pointless posting when I was a young newbie, but I know now that that annoys people, so I may start writing more while posting less. Purple Panda says she also did some pointless posting when she was new, but now she doesn’t do that anymore.

  188. 296 – Good point. That’s the thing: some threads need faster moderation, some threads need slower moderation, and some threads are fine how they are. It’s a weird jumble.

  189. I like MB just fine the way it is. I just don’t understand why it matters whether you reach Part Five of a random thread. If Part Five happens, then it happens. If it doesn’t, it doesn’t. Having a good thread is the important thing. The number of posts isn’t.
