Okay, I was okay with the orange and red, but this is going too far. I love the colors, they’re very pretty, but they sort of clash and I just don’t want to have to keep adjusting. I’d personally like the original colors back, but please change these ones, they’re driving me crazy.

Gah, even the green text is different!!!!!

Come on now. Seriously? I love you lots Rebecca, I really do. Please don’t get so crazy with this.

Great picture though! I love it! *turns desktop background from awesome green turtle photo to froody Urania picture*

I don’t like homework. I really don’t. I think that lab reports should get sick and die. That would be nice. Sort of, at least in short-term, for me. Hehe.

Wait, the wind thing is impossible on that image. Urania’s hair is sharply back, like the wind is blowing into her face, but she’s falling, and the leaf is going the other way (like the gravity-wind is blowing from the other side). Huh.

The way WordPress configures this, you can’t really tell how it looks until you see it “live.” The greens looked pretty on the sample, but on the blog I couldn’t distinguish them from the black text.

That was really odd…..So, I just walked down the hall to use the bathroom, and first of all, the second I open my door, the volume from the tv in the lounge is quite overwhelming (I never realized the door blocked that much sound, given how often I am disturbed by my noisy floor mates). So, anyway, I briefly wonder why the heck anybody is up watching tv at this time (dumb thought, given the people on this floor), and then after I enter the bathroom, and all I hear is the muted music, I think, Wonder why they’re watching Sweeney Todd…… Immediately after that, I think, What the heck makes your mind jump to Sweeney Todd? You couldn’t hear any of what was being said, etc…… When I leave the bathroom, it is quite apparent that it is a musical, and I’m standing in the hallway, listening, and it continues, and I”m thinking–yup, pretty sure it is Sweeney Todd, cuz that sounds like Johnny Depp singing, and now that’s definitely Bellatrix. [yes, I know, not bellatrix in this movie, but same actress, and i dont’ remember her name in ST]

So, I continue listening for a couple minutes, confirming that I was really right, and being seriously shocked that I actually recognized the movie when I wasn’t even paying any attention to the music/words/etc when walking down the hall (and couldn’t even make out the words, even if I was trying), cuz I seriously don’t get how I somehow knew, subconsciously, what the movie was, cuz I hadn’t been paying any attention, the thought just popped into my head, “wonder why they’re watching Sweeney Todd.” I’d put no conscious thought into trying to figure out what they were watching, I’ve only seen that movie once (a month or so ago), and yeah. It was kinda weird…..especially given that I ahve a very ahrd time placing songs/music, even if I’ve heard them, and know I recognize them, I have the hardest time remembering why I know them/where they’re from. (for instance, you play silent night, I’ll recognize it, know i know the tune, but it’ll take me forever to put a name to it…..)

Yeah, anyway, done babbling–I am going to bed.

Ag! I hate being the negative, pessimistic and annoying person, but I can’t stand the colors. I just can’t. These ones are better than the “summer” colors, because they’re more pastel, but I just don’t see why we can’t keep the original colors. I loved those colors, and I had been accustomed to them for two years, and suddenly I come to the MB and it’s hot pink? That’s only okay on April Fool’s Day, in my opinion.
And I don’t know what I would/will do if we changed colors every stupid random thread, or had hot pink for a whole month. If the colors change often enough to ponder whether the MB has new colors today, they change too much.

I like the colors! Though I think it would be nice to return to the blue sometimes…

About two weeks ago (actually, on our French field trip to Montreal…) my stomach started hurting. At first I thought it was a stomach bug or something, but then I noticed it was exclusively on the right side. So then I thought (in my kind of random, paranoid, not-very-serious way that I have) “ooh, must be appendicitis.”
Well, once I came back home, I woke up in the middle of the night, and it reallyreally hurt. So, I said “Something is not right!” (heh), and we went to the ER.
And it turned out my appendix was ruptured and full of gangrene.
So now I’m back from the hospital, and slowly recovering (reading, knitting socks, and avoiding my NaNo, which is a failure once more.)…and wishing I could dance again. Because I can’t , right now, and I’m going crazy.

Last night was closing night. It really was a good show, but then it turned out that a lot of the cast, instead of going to Cantonese food as is the tradition, were going to Dairy Queen, which is a football tradition. With the football players, no less.
Since in my mind that is not a cast dinner, I absolutely refused to go, and since A—— didn’t want to go either, we decided we would go to the art show instead. But by the time we got into town, though, the show was over so we wandered around for a while, stood in the middle of the street, and eventually decided to get fries. Then we went to Eva’s and got Eva, then we went for a long walk and then came back at midnight.

Now, don’t get me wrong. I know, intellectually that a 6.9 is not really a small quake, but it’s just hard to think of it as big, when I have probably experienced one every year of my life. Of course, most of the ones I’ve been in were probably more (perhaps significantly more) than 10 miles away. I might have a little more respect for one if I had actually experienced the full force (ie, been at the epicenter, or close to)…….

Anyway, I’m not trying to say I think that 6.9/7.1/7.9 (the big one) would be small quakes, it’s just I have a hard time thinking of them as big, cuz, well, like I said–I’m jaded. Comes with living in a seismically active state where even relatively large quakes (those that would kill mass numbers of people elsewhere), kill almost nobody, and do relatively little damage…..yeah, anyway……

My friend’s mom sent me an e-mail that had a link to the Daily Mail, which was an article titled: “Why no child is safe from the sinister cult of emo” and a little message telling me I shouldn’t be emo or I’d commit suicide.

    Really, lady?

Maybe she should ask me if I classify myself as emo first, and then if I do, she can whop me upside the head, and if I don’t, she can leave me the freak alone. Either way, there’s no call to send me a link to a prejiduced article attacking My Chemical Romance and labeling them as emo along with bands like Good Charlotte and blink-182, which are not only not emo but hardly related.

The only thing I can see is that emo people are glad to be depressed, while goth people mostly just try to scare others and be angry……..and to call someone emo is at times taken as an insult, while being called goth never happens (in my frame of reference, that is). Clear it up for ya? No, I thought not. I don’t get it either. There’s a book on it though, called Everybody Hurts, it’s supposedly the essential guide to being emo. Most people have their own opinion of emo, and I’m not sure there really is an exact definition except that it’s a genre of music that was an offshoot of punk. Labels aren’t my expertise. But here’s mine: Emo is a bunch of apathetic, pessimistic bands and they’re teenage fans who wear a certain style of clothing. It’s not really their fault that they’re pessimistic, it’s just how they are. Give them a hug. It’s definatly not the new goth, because goths were around since forever and emos just popped up after punk. It was underground in DC at first, but then got all mainstream with “emo” bands in the 1990s. Before you know it, there’s stores that advertise “emo” clothing and “emo” styles, and everybody goes and paints their nails black and a bunch of new people decide that they’re “emo” and make a hairstyle and type of pants to go along with it. I was critisized (and rightly so lol) for using “poser” too much, but you really can’t tell who’s posing and who’s really dressing in something because they like it anymore, because “that’s so poser” has become a poser phrase.

If you think you’re emo, you’re probably not. It’s just a stupid label anyway. Just don’t go around calling people who wear black clothes and have asymetrical bangs emo.

79-They’re probably not emo or goth. But they have a right to be pissed off; you’re labeling them! Don’t label them, and they won’t get pissed off. I’m not all that offended when someone calls me emo or something, but it gets bothersome. Goth really isn’t a label, it’s more like a lifestyle. It’s kind of when you awknowledge pain and anger, but unlike emos, don’t wallow in it. Thank God. In my opnion, they’re some of the most open minded and funny people. Again, if they call themselves goth, they’re NOT.

Okay, just to let you know, “I Must Be Emo” and “Tickle Me Emo” aren’t correct depictions of emo at ALL. Emo has like 1% to do with self harm.

Tim Burton wouldn’t label himself as goth, and if you see pictures of him, he obviously dosn’t wear studs or have asymetrical black hair, but his mind is what you might call gothic, that originated before even the Victorian times.

    Speaking of early class times…

Currently, my school startes at 7:45. I wake up at 6:00 and catch a 6:45 bus in order to get to school at around 7:30 (my school isn’t actually that far away, but it’s downtown, so it still takes awhile).

However, the Port Authority Transit system (all of the buses) might strike in December. Thus, we will need to be taken to school in yellow school buses.

Because of this, all after-school activities will be canceled (because people need to get on the bus). That means I won’t be able to do Newspaper, Choir, Model UN, Amnesty International, or NHS.

Also because of this, we have to stagger our bus times with other schools in the district. This means that our school will start at 5:50 AM. Yes, that’s right. I will have to wake up at 3:30-4:00, depending on what time the bus will come. Granted, I’ll get out of school at 2:00 (compared to the 3:45 now), but my body-clock will need serious adjustment. I’ll have to go to bed at 8-9:00 to get a decent night’s sleep. (Now I’m getting about 6 hours, which would mean 10:00).

Anyway, if any of you want to hear about what I did last night, here it is, along with why I was there in the first place, in case I didn’t make it clear before.
A friend of mine who plays trad./folk/maritime music sent me an email about a singing workshop by Donal Maguire (have any of you heard of him? He’s good). So, after looking him up, listening to a few tracks I decided to go, and I’m quite glad that I did!
He was very friendly and interesting (great sense of humor too, all the people I know from Ireland and/or England are great storytellers) and the workshop was fun. We ended up taking a good bit more time than it was supposed to, but nobody minded at all! Although it wasn’t quite as hands-on (voice on??) as I thought it might be, it was fine, I was a little nervous about that anyway. However, he sang some, and it was fun to listen, I’ll have to go in search of more music now…….I can sense a dangerous and possibly expensive (CDs, books) foray into research……….drat, and here I was going to let my allowance recover. (I’ve got $11 spendable, and that was paid to the end of the year, not good.)
Anyway, good workshop, fun visits, a few questions answered, and some pleasant memories. :D

I thought it was funny that he played a concert a few days earlier where tickets were >$100, and people didn’t even know they were getting a free concert!

Have you noticed the really clear and smooth quality Bell has when he plays really high notes? My dad found an article about how Bell’s violin (The “Red Violin,” if you’ve seen the movie/know the story) really contributes to the sound quality, and is one of the only Stradivarius instruments with that ability.

groundhog (175): I’m not sure. The school board announced a whole complicated bus-schedule system, and no amendments seem possible because once the buses are done with our school, they have to move on to another school. *sigh* I’m just hoping the transportation union can work up a deal with the city. Honestly, though I am very pro-union, I think they’re being really ridiculous. But yesterday we had a hstory test (3rd of the year, only 6 grades in the book this semester so far…), and flat out failed. I mean, I expected AP US History to be hard, but I have never done this badly in a class. Or on tests. I study a ton I just can’t hold so much information in my brain in the time we have to learn it, not to mention that it’s out of 7 books, all of which we’re supposed to at least keep up in.
Not to mention the musical begins tomorrow, so I haven’t been getting home till around 8 all week, plus I have hockey 6 times a week (and that’s on weeks without tournaments). So I have no time to study, let alone write, and I feel like crap all the time. I don’t know what to do about APUSH. I might have to drop down to regular, because I’ve completely given up on doing well on the AP test, and if I fail the class trying to it would only hurt me, even if I got a 5 or something. I was taking this class for college and to help me get into one, but it’s just killing my GPA. I had a C- at the last report card. And I am positive it’s gone down. I have never had a grade that low on a report card, nothing lower than a B-, ever. God… *cries* I’m an emotional wreck. And I have lots of homework to do that I’m avoiding right now. And practicing, I have to do that more regularly, even thought what I consider a week of light practice is what many would consider a ton of time playing. (at least an hour every day that I can manage it, if I have extra time sometimes two or three, although I do miss days now and then, or I only get ten minutes or so. Yeah, I don’t think it’s a lot, but it seems to be more than most of my teacher’s students do…..oh well.)

184-Yes, on many occasions I’ve typed in Beavo in my log on at school, and written it in a couple million times on papers. Once, I wrote it on an SOL test answer sheet, which was bad, becasue you have to erase REALLY REALLY REALLY good. I was online the night before, and got no sleep, which might have contributed to the confusion.

188-Don’t worry, you’re totally not alone. Most of my friends were doing some sort of self mutilation last year, and we’ve all gotten though it. One of my friends was actually freaking us out with suicidal thoughts until we got her out of THAT (thank GOD).

Ew, today this kid was like “hey Gothity Gothity Goth” and I was like *roll eyes walk away* *come back* and he was like “hey do you have blood on your wrists, goth?” and I was like “wow if that’s the best you’ve got, that’s pretty sad” *walk away* and he’s like “GOTH!” and I”m like “have a nice day”. He was pretty pissed. You’d think he’d know that I don’t care what crap he gives me, it’s all pathetic (last year he was the biggest gay baiter of non gay people EVER) and he’s too scrawny to beat anyone up anyway.

Last year, he’s like “I’m going to beat you up” and I was like “Have fun trying” and he pounded my back (I was walking away) with his fists and I was laughing the whole time. If he’d just be nice and stop trying to be the tough guy, maybe nobody would laugh at him and call him short.

oxlin (185): It sounds somewhat like glasswork. I’ve only worked on a glass flame once, but the process of melting, connecting, and hardening seems similar. What kinds of things did you weld?

Jadestone (186): *hugs and chocolate* Seven books? Wow. We only have one book in my AP US History class – called “The American Pageant.” It’s REALLY heavy, but it’s probably way lighter than seven books. (We also have a book full of AP practice tests, but we never use it.) Do you know what kinds of difficulty you’re having with the subject? It helps to always look at the big picture/broad spectrum and view all history as a timeline, instead of getting caught up in all of the small details. I also find it useful to outline each chapter in the book (though it would probably get confusing with 7 different books), and make a big timeline. Every chapter, I add new events to the timeline. Reading the timeline and outlines before the test really helps.

Robert (190): Apparently, my school could choose to either go before all of the other bus times, or after. So, the choices were either 5:50, or 9:30. They had to choose the 5:50 time because of the arts teachers at the school. Because the arts classes are only in the afternoon, it is a part-time job, and all of the teachers have to be working professionals in their field as well. So, many teachers have other jobs that start around 5:00, and if school started at 9:30, school wouldn’t be over in time. *sigh* I just hope they can negotiate an agreement.

I consider 7:30 unnaturally early, but that’s just me. 9:30 is a little earlier than I would really like but is certainly doable, without to much difficulty (especially if I go to bed at a normal hour).

I just don’t think there are words to describe the humor in the book. I think it’s trying to be funny and appeal to high school students, but fails in a funny sort of way.

206/7/8/etc.: I’ve never accidentally used my blogname. I’ve never even thought about using it instead of my real name, nor used html codes, etc. Which is why I don’t quite believe you almost said “The GAPA declares,” Robert. I believe you might have thought it when you were thinking about how to begin the e-mail, but I don’t think you actually came close to actually writing it. I really don’t think you would say “The GAPA declares” even on MuseBlog, because you usually stay out of things. And even when you give input, you would never put it in such a I-Am-All-Powerful-You-Listen-To-Me sort of way. It would be polite, but firm, letting people know that this is how you feel. And even if you were to say something like “The GAPA declares” (and, despite what I said earlier, I think you could genuinely say, on rare occasions), it wouldn’t be on a daily basis. In fact, it would be quite rare, which would make it impossible for you to become so accustomed to saying “The GAPA declares” that you would actually write it in an email. So, to summarize: I think you could have thought it in your head, but wouldn’t actually almost write it in an email. You wouldn’t be just about to type the words out. And, of course, I never know, because you’re Robert and can do all sorts of strange and museish and unpredictable things. But the fact that you just happened to be writing an email today, of all days, when we’re discussing this, and really actuallly wrote to fellow colleagues that you were a Declaring GAPA….a bit of a hyperbole.

So, we had our fire ecology lecture today, as I mentioned on Monday that we would…..The prof spent a lot of time talking about Southern California, and basically saying that it is totally stupid to live there…….He is amusing in some of his opinions, sometimes….

Anyway, here are some nice little excerpts from my notes (why? cuz I feel like it. I’ve nothing better to do before my next class in an hour and a half, after which I leave for Flordia! yippee!)

    Fires require source of ignition:
    *lightning:
*humans~especially in S. California, [this is in my prof’s words, not mine] “with lots of strange people who like to see stuff burn.”

Humans don’t like fire~think it’s bad; decided all forest fires are bad, and wanted to preserve the forest as a resource. “Stop all forest fires.”

Tremendous fire suppression efforts; poured lots of money into it. “All fires bad and terrible.”

    Types of fires:

    1. Surface fire: most common, simply burns litter and debris on ground~usually not a big problem; doesn’t kill trees

    2. Crown fire: a fire moves from ground surface into trees
*most common in coniferous forests~very dry, flammable sap
*resin boils, expands, explodes tree, blowing fire to other trees
*will kill trees, but trees evolved to deal~some need fire

    3. Ground fires: very rare, but most destructive [note: these sound kinda cool!]
*basically burns underground~parts of Canada, much of Siberia
*pines build peat layer from buildup of needles, covered by more “stuff”
*fire will burn this material underground, killing roots of all trees~can prevent return of climax communities
*can burn for hundres (thousands) of years

    Frequency of fires:

    forested ecosystems:
*surface fire: every year to every 250/300 yrs, depending on specific forest
~in west US, every 5-20 yrs before people took over
~when people stopped surface fires, organic material accumulated 2-3 ft, so surface fires usually become crown fires immediately
*crown fires: naturally, rare: 250-300 yrs [by natural, it means before people stopped surface fires,w hich lessened the incidence of the significantly more serious crown fires]

    Southern California:
chaparral~along coast of Souther California, Chile, Africa
*mediterranean climate: dry summers, wet winters
*waist high vegetation: shrubs, grasses; shrubs, like the pine trees, have highly flammable sap
    *lots of lightning strikes
*build homes on stilts on hill; fire starts on a hill, place burns like crazy~fire burns best going uphill; homes WILL burn
*Many of the plants require fire for seeds to grow~plants deal with fire, humans don’t
*If you must build, build with adobe and tile roofs of clay~will not burn [and now I quote “but adobe homes aren’t ‘cool’, they must have their redwood sided, flammable homes, so they don’t do this, because clay houses aren’t cool.”]

    Wettability:

*as it burns, stuff sinks about 12 inches into ground, cools, forms impermeable water proof layer
*heavy winter rain, mudslide takes out everything above this layer~if you don’t burn, you will be washed away
~many people spend millions to build reinforced wall uphill, but unless built really deep (20 ft), the mudslide will just take it out, and your house too

Anyway, yeah, just thought I’d share……that was most of today’s lecture…….

Happy Thanksgiving, all, in case I don’t post anymore in the next hour before my last class 9after which I fly out)!

I saw Much Ado About Nothing last night!!! Ahhhhh ♥
I find it amusing that no one ever seems to do pure Shakespeare anymore. All the ones I’ve seen recently have had some weird twist. Midsummer was 60s/70s psychedelic, Much Ado was set in Hawaii… Titus (the movie) is in some alternate ancient Rome where men wear business suits and there are cars, but they still use swords… The 1996 Romeo and Juliet was…strange. But very good.
Anyway, back to Much Ado. It was wonderful. Being a light designer, a good portion of the show was me watching the lights, but I did pay attention, I swear! I laughed when Benedick was trying to spy on his friends who were being wildly over-dramatic about how in LOVE Beatrice was, and cried at the wedding. It was particularly sad because they had Claudio and Hero do this whole dance and Hero was so happy and Claudio was so depressed and it went on for so long. I was surprised no one noticed the trouble sooner.

My grade 7/8 teacher read a loud and it was wondeful because she was good at it. sometimes it’s nice to be read to as an older child. people don’t think of reading stories to you. last year when I went to visit my cousins (who are around my age) we spent quite a lot of time just reading to eachother.

So, my friend’s brother ordered her a limo to go to the movie (it was her birthday and he had a bunch of cash stored up, apparently… I thought it was a bit over the top, but it was fun. I felt famous.) and we took like a 2 hour detour through all these random towns. We blasted the Twilight soundtrack and sang along to every song, but we all had to pee AWFULLY. By the time we got to McDonalds we were all racing to the bathrooms and we peed for the longest time… then we had 15 minutes to eat before we went to the theatre and we inhaled our various food items. We went to the theatre, and holy crap, there were bunches of people there. We were in the 7:30 line, which was blissfully short, so we would’ve gotten in if J and R hadn’t INSISTED on getting popcorn. It took them about 15 minutes just to get popcorn… by the time we got into the actual theatre it was PACKED, and there were only 3 seats for the 7 of us. Four of our party went into the theatre next door, and me, Elissa and Nicole stayed in the first one. I sat in the very back row next to two 40 year old ladies wearing Team Edward shirts; it was a perfect seat because I could see everything and the women next to me were so nice. We discussed the movie before and after with heated passion. My hands were shaking so hard when it started, and the audience screamed and clapped when Edward first entered the lunch room. And the scene where Carlisle enters the hospital, me/the women next to me shouted ‘HEY THERE DOCTOR!!!!!’ in unison. I laughed, I cried, I squee’d… it rocked. I’ll analyze it on the movie thread. After, we had to wait for our group to get out of theatre 3, then we took Jenne’s sister’s van back home (we all had to squish together; Vikki sat on my lap. :D ) And so sums up my evening of Twilighty goodness!!!! I got conflicting opinions on it, and in the end I decided it wasn’t worth 20 bucks (I guess it must have had a following already, or they could never have gotten away with charging that much for a book that old- it should have down to $15!). Now that it’s so popular, though, I’m kinda wondering what everyone liked about it (it sounded stupid to me) and so if I can find it for cheap I’ll read it.

  343. (343) Years ago, I attended a luncheon for writers of children’s books. One of the featured authors talked about his childhood in a rough inner city neighborhood. Somewhere along the way he discovered Shakespeare. He thought it was such an amazing thing that people once talked like that. Reading the plays taught him there were other worlds, other possibilities that he would never have imagined from looking at the world around him. He found both comfort and courage in knowing that the world in front of him wasn’t the way it had to be. I think that can be true no matter where you live.

I should add he made that point in particular because there was a philosophy prevalent at the time that kids would only become interested in reading if the subject matter was contemporary and familiar.

We took and apple and a knife and fed it little bits, it didn’t eat a whole lot, but it was very friendly–it climbed up on my hand and explored my arms for several minutes before I gently put it back into the grass. It was at least as long as my hand, and so pretty!

There’s a drama group near where I live that has started a “Shakespeare in the Park” festival every year–they perform some Shakespeare play every year in a park in a rough part of town, so that kids who normally wouldn’t have drama available to them are able to attend a free performance practically in their backyards.

I get this a lot, mostly because my town is on the water (Elevation about 5 feet). In Earth Sciences we drew contour maps showing the possible high water mark duet to Global Warming, my house was atleast 10 feet under. So my teachers, and residents of North Snipville (South and West Snipville are tons better anyway- they’re just jealous), keep talking about how erosion and ecetera are going to destroy everything, but now I’m just like “meh”. Ok, so 100 feet down the street there are some bulkheads that will be gone in 10 years, but that still doesn’t swallow my house up, and my basement already floods so I’m used to it. Isn’t it human nature to push boundaries? People will live on the shoreline, no matter the eventual cost. Out in the Hamptons it’s a bigger deal because the houses are bigger, but they’ve go the money, why should we be so concerned? My house is here now, and I’m living in it, until it is uninhabitable (or I go to college). New Orleans was a problem because the destruction was immediate, (due to below sealevel building) that’ll only happen here when we get the hurricane, and we are prepared.

The waterfront was pretty much abandoned for a while, but then they made nice little paved paths and built fancy restaurants and hotels. In the typhoon last year an art gallery got the roof torn off and all the art went flying all over the place because some idiot decided that he was going to take out all those protective beams and stuff and open the place up.
But anyway, I’m really excited for rising sea levels and this year’s storm season (typhoons!). It’s so cozy you know, when there’s a disaster and the community bands together to provide hot food and light and water. I only wish I actually noticed in these situations what was going on. Like during the storm, we were sitting around in sweaters and stuff doing a jigsaw puzzle and eating bread and cheese, and my mom was saying we should conserve it and all. Happy Thanksgiving everybody! I usually don’t feel sick around meat, but when I saw the little package of turkey insides in the sink about an hour ago, I was veryvery glad that I’m vegetarian.

I took my first official mini ballet barre yesterday, and I felt fine… except for the fact that my arabesque (which was never impressive to begin with) is pretty much a foot or so off the floor.

Dancing for musicals, however, is not my cup of tea. And tap dancing/singing? I. Just. Can’t. Be. That. Coordinated.

Everybody’s so stressed around here, and when Dad is late to whatever, and Mom’s been cooking forever, and I wake up late, nobody’s giving thanks for anything.

And I’m like “In three minutes I’ll take out the dog” and Mom gets all pissed off and says “Go to hell” and now everybody’s sulking.

We got up at 9- probably due to me, since whenever I wake up I take it upon myself to wake everybody else, too- and we actually had breakfast together. Amazing. Then my mom started baking and my dad cleaned the house. I went on MuseBlog- obviously- and then did some cross-stitching, which was nice. I don’t often have time to actually embroider anything. Then we ate cinnamon rolls- fresh baked ones, not from a mix or frozen dough or anything. Now they’re making:
    Apple pie (mmmmmmmm, pie)
    Spaghetti squash casserole
    Mashed potatoes
    Butternut squash

Well, my Thanksgiving was semi-pleasant. I strangely only ate about one plate of food – a small serving of only half what we had. Of course, I did have a heckuva lot of cookies and a piece of pie. Then it went kind of downhill. We went out to the back yard to play football, and 2 minutes after my aunt told us to watch out for “land-mines” (they got a new dog. I’ll let you figure it out.), I got “land-mines” on both shoes.

We also played Cranium, and it took forever. Even though we were on teams, we all sucked at it. Also, my cousins Riley and Miles (6 and 5 years old, respectively, so I should have expected this) were being completely obnoxious. It’s like they don’t know the meaning of the word “obnoxious” yet. :-P In the end, we decided to quit, and our team won because we were the only ones in the central cranium, even though we hadn’t gotten any questions right.

Well. My Thanksgiving (yes, I know it’s a old subject by now) was interesting. Probably one of the better years, actually.
Of all my cousins (six, besides myself) only two others were there, the others being at various other activities around the country.
However, we also had two other families with us who’ve been friends (of the family) since forever started, which added 4 other teenagers to our midst. The two Larisa and Tanya were aloof and kept mainly to themselves, but their older brother, Nick was actually acting human this time (a great improvement over former years), and even nice and funny (unheard of success). The other girl, Emma was nice enough, although not too terribly interesting. She was also paying closer attention to Nick than she really had to, but whatever.
So, it went alright, I ended up being completely ignored only half of the time, I was able to avoid Grandma enough to only have to suffer from her attention once (excruciating) and for the most part there was nothing to give me major alarm in the conduct of my extended family, in fact, they were entirely civilized, compared with what I’ve been subjected to in the past.
I actually managed to make it through this one without fighting back tears, although for a little bit I did slink out of the house, climb a tree and sent text messages to my best friend (Muffy) who was at her Dad’s.
There was even some fun, like sitting around the fire in the evening with all the other kids, and not being ignored or feeling particularly more uncomfortable than I usually do around my peers, that was fun.

My homeschool group has, since September, been having a once-a-week improv theater class-thing. Improv theater is, basically, making up a play and then performing it. There’s a bit more to it than that, but that’s the basic idea. So, now we’ve (me, electros, electros’s little sister, and three other kids) gotten the script down, we’re working on our lines, we’re digging up costumes and props from various places around the house, and basically doing everything at the last minute because until the last minute we had no idea what we were doing. It’s not the best play ever, it’s kind of short and doesn’t have all that much of a plot, but hey, considering the oldest writer is twelve and a half, it’s not too bad….

We probably should have gone earlier, because lots of people were there, and almost every time I nearly ran into someone. It was also fun because part way through, I wiped out by leaning too much to the left, and I had a major wipeout, where I fell and turned 180 degrees as I did so, while my sled skidded down.

I’M BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was so much awesome fun…….So, I arrived in FL late Friday, and then Saturday, my cousin, sister, and I went to Universal’s Islands of Adventure (future home of the HP theme park stuff), and also to Universal Studios. the lines were almost nonexistent–30 minutes max. Then Sunday, we went back to US and IOA (in the afternoon–we went to church in the morning, then lunch).

It was so much fun–I think the best ride is probably the Dueling Dragons (super sweetly AWESOME), and I think the blue one (ice) is probably the best. But I also really like Dr. Doom’s Fearfall–despite the fact that I know exactly waht’s coming, it never fails to pull a scream of terror out of me when it drops (all five times–I think it was five,a nyway. One time I managed to kep from holding on to the thing that comes down over your shoulders, but just barely. The other times i would start witout holding on, but the minute it shoots up, I was instinctively grab on for dear life–you seriously lift off the seat when you drop, too–so fun!!!!!). And me and my sis made our cousin go on the three water rides at IOA, on which we got abasolutely drenched–and he thought it was so cold, and I was laughing……it was only slightly chilly.

Then on Monday, we drove to my gramma’s house, and that was mostly all we did. tuesday, Gramma took us to the gulf, and my sis and I went wading (and I went “swimming”–or least ways, submerged myself–bit hard to swim when the water doesn’ty hardly even go up to your waist). Then when we got back, I did a bunch of calculus studying (not fun).

Wednesday–more calclulus, finished all I had to do, I think……but will probably study more cuz I’m paranoid. I also went swimming in my gramma’s pool (60 degrees–very cold, really). I stayed in about 20 minutes, and when i got out, I was well on the way to going numb…….but it was worth it.

Then Thursday (Thanksgiving), gramma drove us (me and my sis) back to our Aunt/Uncle/Cousin’s……..We played Guitar Hero for a couple hours on his PS2, and he gave me his HPatCoS PS2 game that he’s had for at least 3 yrs and never played (yes, he is very sweet…..a bit unexpected of a teenage boy–17–who is also an only child…….but very nice, too).

Friday–the three of us went back to IOA, but this time the lines were VERY long–we were there four hours, and barely managed to do four rides and a show. But it was still fun, despite our cousin trying to get us to jump the lines (sneak into the express lanes past where the express passes are scanned…..)

Saturday–we went to the beach. It was lots of fun, everybody (aunt/uncle/cousin/gramma, even sister some) thought the water was cold. I thought it was nice and warm, and went swimming. It was so fun.

Sunday–flew back to college……There was snow at the airpor (yay!), although only a little, and it was 33, but no snow here, but judgning from the wetness outside, and the occasional slushy car, I think it snowed and just melted…..Hopefully more snow soon, and sticking…..

ok, off to catch up on all Ik’ve missed!!!!!

Of course, he’s not read the books, so it could be totally different…….He’s 17, btw. I might try reading them sometime when i don’t ahve school…..(Christmas break/summer break)

  563. Raynpho,

Here is what the Transportation Security Administration says about knitting needles on its website:

    Transporting Knitting Needles & Needlepoint

Knitting needles are permitted in your carry-on baggage or checked baggage. However, there is a possibility that the needles can be perceived as a possible weapon by one of our Security Officers. Our Security Officers have the authority to determine if an item could be used as a weapon and may not allow said item to pass through security. We recommend the following when bring knitting needles on an airplane:

    * Circular knitting needles are recommended to be less than 31 inches in total length
    * We recommend that the needles be made of bamboo or plastic (Not Metal)
    * Scissors must have blunt points
    * In case a Security Officer does not allow your knitting tools through security it is recommended that you carry a self addressed envelope so that you can mail your tools back to yourself as opposed to surrendering them at the security check point.
    * As a precautionary measure we recommend that you carry a crochet hook with yarn to save the work you have already done in case your knitting tools are surrendered at the checkpoint

Most of the items needed to pursue a Needlepoint project are permitted in your carry-on baggage or checked baggage with the exception of circular thread cutters or any cutter with a blade contained inside. These items cannot be taken through a security checkpoint. They must go in your checked baggage.
