Muse Academy Holiday Party 2010 — Gift Tree

Place your presents under or on the gift tree for the Gift Exchange.

Note: this thread is only for posting gifts. All other comments or discussion should be on the Holiday Party thread. When it’s time to reveal the contents, they will be posted here as well.

Describe the outside appearance of your gift. (Wrapping paper, size, general shape, what it sounds like when shaken…however you’d like to describe it.)

Suggestion: make sure you keep track of your gift and its description, so you don’t risk forgetting what you gave.

Muse Academy Holiday Party — Planning Thread

The weather is bleak this time of year off the coast of Iceland, but as end of term approaches, Muse Academy students and faculty alike have one thing to look forward to: the annual Holiday Party and accompanying Gift Tree. Although less spectacular than the balls the Academy holds on May Day and Halloween, it’s delightful in its own spicy, coniferous way.

(For reference, here’s how the party and the tree unfolded last year.)

Muse Academy May Day Ball — Rooftop Garden

A place to catch a little fresh air after dancing, or thread your way through this year’s specially constructed Yin-Yang Maze:

Muse Academy May Day Ball 2010

The biggest event of the academic year begins. The decorations are up, the food is ready, the musicians are practiced, rested, and in tune.

The ball lasts just a few hours in Musiverse time but unfolds over a whole month of blog time.

Formal attire required. Fortunately, all clothing is virtual, flattering in every respect, and incredibly comfortable to wear.

Note: the rooftop garden will open anon.

May Day Ball 2010 Planning Thread

Organizing Muse Academy’s preeminent festive occasion, the spring formal.

(If you need a little institutional memory, here’s how the planning went last year.)

Muse Academy Holiday Party 2009

Welcome, dear friends, to our winter celebration! (Or summer should you be visiting from the Southern Hemisphere.) Find your way to the Grand Hall, up that slight rise over there, just follow the row of wrought-iron street lamps to the main door. Shake off the snow, leave your greatcoats, cloaks, and capes with the attendant. Take a moment to warm yourself by the fire and breathe deeply the mingling scents of cinnamon, chocolate, bayberry, and pine; linger; absorb; note the wandering hints of ginger and peppermint before entering the ballroom to behold such sights…. Oh, but pardon me, I am detaining you here in the cold when you must be eager to thaw yourselves in cozier surroundings. Go, then, and enjoy the sundry delights waiting to greet the fullness of your senses as you step into our Victorian wonderland…

The festivities last until the New Year. For more information, please see the Holiday Party Planning Thread.

Muse Academy Halloween Ball, 2009

It’s Halloween at Muse Academy (in blog time), and the ball is about to begin. The food, the decorations, the music… how can we describe them? We can’t! You’ll have to do that before anything else can happen. A little scene-setting, please!

Come Play Paker!

A round of Muse Academy’s uniquely zany card game is in progress and desperately needs new players. It’s easy to learn but extremely challenging (sometimes dangerously so). Please stop by the Muse Academy Student Lounge and give it a try!
