“Could we do something where we’re collectively writing the diary of some person, but we don’t plan anything about the person. They could be a historical figure or an ordinary teenager or an adult or a cow or a hot pink bunny. We’d just write entry after entry without consulting at all and see how the story went, with each person adding elements to the character.”

For those of you who don’t know, Script Frenzy is NaNoWriMo’s younger sibling, specifically for scripts. This year its auspicious opening day is April 1st. For those of you who don’t know what NaNoWriMo is…that’s National Novel Writing Month.

Continued from 2007.3. The original idea came from Prarilius Canix, who described it as “a thread for Musers who have written/are writing/want to write books… a place to bounce ideas off of other people who share that interest.”

The idea is to start with an image and each person writes about it as s/he sees it, in the writer’s choice of style. See the original thread for clarification and inspiration.

Alice launched the first RPW thread in May 2007, describing it as follows:

Everyone makes up one character (made up, mind you!) and we decide on plot, time, etc. just like usual. Then we start. It would be in the form of letters or e-mails, and we would say at the top of our post who the letter was to.

Everyone would have to read all of the posts, though, to prevent conflicting plot twists, but their character wouldn’t know about whatever the letter said unless it was addressed to them.

If not, then phooey. That was hard to explain.

Even though the original one is still going on, we’re starting a new Role-Playing Writing thread from scratch so that newcomers and latecomers can participate. Have fun!

Just in time for the post-NaNo season, a brand new RRR. Suggested by Prarilius Canix, who pointed out “that the two sci-fi RRRs we had both had space travel, and the innumerable fantasy RRRs all had magic. I think it’s time to pull a Monty Python and say ‘And now for something completely different.’ I think that the writers on the blog (including me) might enjoy a challenge.”
