The IlluMimiNati, 2011

The Illumiminati (let’s skip those distracting interior capital letters for now) were founded a hair over two years ago and are still going strong. Well, not exactly strong — sneakily, stealthily, subtly, sibilantly. In any case, we think their efforts are needed more than ever before, so we’re giving them a new thread in the here and now.

OKAY, WE’RE BACK

Thanks for your patience. Let us know if you notice anything unusual. (More unusual than usual around here, we mean.)

BLOG IS GOING OFFLINE FOR MAINTENANCE

Traffic is slow this afternoon (maybe the weather is as nice everywhere else as it is in Robertville), so we’re taking this opportunity to upgrade the blog’s software. Be prepared for disruptions beginning slightly before 2 p.m. blog time.

Attention, Chessplayers!

If you lose interest in a game and know you’re never going to play another move, don’t just leave your opponents waiting and wondering forever. Instead, please resign by clicking the skull-and-crossbones button on the game’s command bar. Then we’ll calculate new ratings, and everybody can move on.

ATTENTION, would-be Texas Kokon-ers

We’ve heard from one parent (non-Texan) and will put her in touch with others once they report in.

This Way to the Museion

We hope you enjoyed our Victorian MuseBlog spoof as much as we did. We’ll leave the Museion online, moderate it, and continue to add new goodies to it. MBers will no longer be automatically directed to it, so you’ll have to go there deliberately. You can find it at http://www.museblog.com/museion (or simply http://www.museblog.com ).

>> In any case, you certainly won’t want to miss Lady Coneyful’s Victorian Muses.

The Thumbs Are Back — Temporarily

We’ve just upgraded to a new version of our comment-liking software, and it replaced all of our pie icons with humdrum thumbs. Never fear — the pies will return. We might not have time to restore them tonight, though.

We regret the inconvenience.

Suggestion Box, v. 2011.1

What do you want to see on the blog, at Musery Loves Company, or anywhere else in the GAPAs’ domain? Here’s where to make your wishes known.

Continued from v. 2010.2.

MuseBlog Music Project

Proposed in the Suggestion Box, v. 2010.2.

Chess Eterna-ment Rankings

Inspection of the chess games on the blog found only one game (Tesseract vs. bookgirl_me) still in progress*. To keep things tidy going into the new year, the Chess GAPA (Robert) has adjudicated and closed all other games** of standard chess and calculated new MuseBlog Chess Ratings on the basis of the results. Ratings for Capablanca and Turbo Chess are unaffected.

Here are the new ratings, as of January 4, 2011 (numbers in parentheses indicate number of games on which the rating is based).

*(Finished on January 8; ratings updated to reflect the result.)

Latest update: 24 September 2011.

THREADS CLOSING EARLY TONIGHT

Your hard-partying Administrators will be offline for most of the evening, so the December Random Thread and “Welcome, Newcomers!” thread will be disappearing around 6:45 p.m., Museblog time. Replacements will appear a couple of minutes after midnight. Until then, we suppose you can use this announcement as a temporary random thread, in a pinch.

See you next year (and decade)!

Slow Moderation Ahead

Two GAPAs will be traveling on Monday (October 11), so delayed moderation is a distinct possibility for much of the day.

MuseBlog is sorry for the inconvenience, which is due to its moderators’ possessing physical bodies that need to be laboriously transported from place to place. In the future, the Administrators hope to exchange their cumbersome proton-and-neutron-based bodies for electron-based models that can be transported at near-instantaneous speeds via wireless networks. Until the upgrade is complete, similar slowdowns are bound to occur from time to time, and we entreat your understanding.
