Lunacy Appreciation Month

Forty years ago this month, Apollo 11 astronauts landed on Earth’s moon. In commemoration of the historic anniversary, MuseBlog dedicates the July random threads to moons and moonlets everywhere. After all, the word “month” comes from “moon.” What could be more apt? Read more »

Logomania Unleashed! Part 2

This madness most exquisitely lexical leads us dizzied and dazzled into Part 2 of the June Random Thread, where over and under the warp of being we weave the weft of words. Read more »

Logomania Unleashed!

The title of the June Random Thread (from the Greek words logos, “word,” and mania, “madness,” used as a suffix meaning “an infatuation with or passion for something”) celebrates words and language in all their giddy vertiginous kaleidoscopic splendiferous wonderfulness. Read more »

International Month of Futures Past, Part 2

The May Random Thread continues to celebrate past predictions for the future by being as random as you please. Read more »

Come Play Paker!

A round of Muse Academy’s uniquely zany card game is in progress and desperately needs new players. It’s easy to learn but extremely challenging (sometimes dangerously so). Please stop by the Muse Academy Student Lounge and give it a try!

International Month of Futures Past

future-highway-01

In 1958 when Ward Kimball produced “Magic Highway, U.S.A.” for Disneyland, the vision of the future looked a lot like…1958. Aesthetically speaking, that is. Much of the technology still waits to be invented. This month’s Random threads celebrate how imaginations of the past portrayed the future, but in the present, of course, you may be as random as you like.

For the curious, an 8:47-minute excerpt of “Magic Highway, U.S.A.” may be found on YouTube:

Avatar Policy Notice

Attention, MBers! — Please Read

For your gravatar pictures, please do not use images that are photos of recognizable human faces. This includes celebrities.

The only exceptions would be famous people whose portrait Lady Bunniful has painted. Otherwise, she can’t make out the difference between a celebrity’s face and any random person in someone else’s yearbook.

Dissing Mr. Joe, 2009

A perennially popular series of threads in which MBers vent their frustrations and display their creativity by abusing the blog’s favorite scapegoat, . It really does seem to make people feel better.

Cleverbot Conversations

To relieve the congestion on the Random thread.

For those just tuning in, Cleverbot is an upgrade of Jabberwacky, described on Wikipedia as “a chatterbot created by British programmer Rollo Carpenter. Its stated aim is to “simulate natural human chat in an interesting, entertaining and humorous manner”. It is an early attempt at creating an artificial intelligence through human interaction.” It can be found, cleverly enough, at cleverbot.com. More information available on Wikipedia under the topic “Jabberwacky.”

Random Thread: IMADSAD, Part 2

Second verse, same as the first: The March Random Thread celebrates our own invention, the International Month of Anachronism Detection and Scrupulous Attention to Detail. As always, of course, you're free to talk about anything you like. Continued from Part One. (Users' Manual: Obey The Rules. Consult The Guide. Have fun!)

International Month of Anachronism Detection and Scrupulous Attention to Detail

The March Random Thread is dedicated (though not necessarily devoted) to those who squirm with annoyance when writers and moviemakers get things wrong, wrong, wrong. (Think any MBers fall into that category?) Welcome to IMADSAD! (Users' Manual: Obey The Rules. Consult The Guide. Have fun!)

Random Thread: International Month of Exploration and Discovery, Part 2

Part 2 of the monthly Random Thread continues our celebration of the flamablamablous wondrousness of the universe with this exclusive preview of a recent, somewhat disturbing discovery in the fossil record. (Users' Manual: Obey The Rules. Consult The Guide. Have fun!)

Jokes & Riddles, v. 2009

National Emoticon Appreciation Month, Part 2

The monthly Random Thread continues its smiley celebration (in the picture, anyway; the words you post no doubt will remain as random as ever). Emoticons pop up in the strangest places.

Alter Ego Thread, v. 2009.1

An inexplicably popular MuseBlog perennial: Post under a false name, and try to guess who other posters are.

Continued from v. 2008.8.

NOTE: Check your posts before sending them. The Administrators will not rescue you if you accidentally submit one under your “real” blogname. Many an alter ego has fallen victim to a careless “submit” click.

National Emoticon Appreciation Month

Our first Random Thread of 2009 kicks off our Year of Random Celebrations with a salute to that stalwart factotum, the emoticon. They signal our moods, speak for us when words don't do, provide work for Smiley Gnomes, and illuminate stupid senseless stories that would otherwise be simply stupid senseless text stories.
