Publishing and Getting Published

It is a truth universally acknowledged that a writer, having written, wants to be read. A lot of MBers are thinking about this topic a lot. Here’s a place to talk about it.

Visual Arts, v. 2007.1

Vixen in the Eyes of the Moon requested “a place, perhaps, where we poor MBs who aren’t incredibally gifted in music, and perhaps some who are, can talk about our art.”

(We had another Visual Arts thread last year.)

Our Friends of Fur, Feather, and Fin (and assorted others)

There’s been a clamor for a dog thread, a cat and dog thread . . . well, we know where that can lead. Besides, we like all kinds of animals and MBers have an assortment of pets, so why stop there?

(We could have been consistent and called this Pets 2007.1, since there was a Pets thread in 2006, but we felt the urge to alliterate. And we’re simply not all that consistent. Anyway, there’s no need to restrict the discussion to pets, so a different title makes sense after all.)

Happy Birthday, Sir Paul McCartney!

Bet he never thought he’d be a knight.

He’s 65 years old today (June 18). Do we still need him, will we still feed him, now that he’s no longer 64?

Random Factoids, v. 2007.2

“Shirt” and “skirt” both derive from the same word. If that’s not sufficiently random, you’re certain to find something suitable on this thread. Continued from v. 2007.1.

Happy 142nd Birthday, William Butler Yeats!

The Irish poet (1865-1939) was born on June 13. Below, one of his cat poems.
The Cat And The Moon
William Butler Yeats

The cat went here and there
And the moon spun round like a top,
And the nearest kin of the moon,
The creeping cat, looked up.
Black Minnaloushe stared at the moon,
For, wander and wail as he would,
The pure cold light in the sky
Troubled his animal blood.
Minnaloushe runs in the grass
Lifting his delicate feet.
Do you dance, Minnaloushe, do you dance?
When two close kindred meet.
What better than call a dance?
Maybe the moon may learn,
Tired of that courtly fashion,
A new dance turn.
Minnaloushe creeps through the grass
From moonlit place to place,
The sacred moon overhead
Has taken a new phase.
Does Minnaloushe know that his pupils
Will pass from change to change,
And that from round to crescent,
From crescent to round they range?
Minnaloushe creeps through the grass
Alone, important and wise,
And lifts to the changing moon
His changing eyes.

Song Lyrics, Part 2

Still blowing through the jasmine in our minds.
