September Random Thread

As has become traditional, we’re posting the random thread with a generic name and without art to give our brilliant but perpetually frazzled illustrator a chance to catch up on her sleep. The name and theme will become apparent within a day or two. Meanwhile, the random craziness will proceed as usual.

Dark (Pink) Energy

Warning! What you are about to see — should you brave the jump — is extremely disturbing. (Robert especially should approach with caution.) We will not be responsible for any mental damage incurred.

Technical note: you will need a decent screen size to make it work. Handheld devices are not big enough. Click on the images for larger versions. Also, you may need to watch it closely for a moment or two to get the full effect (at your peril). Let your eyes move around.

Kmt Pwns!*

This month’s Random thread travels to the ancient land of Kemet, kingdom of the Pharaohs, a country you more likely know as Egypt. Perhaps someone would care to try ens hand at translating the story at the top of the papyrus?

Stop Making Sense

Random Thread: “Interesting Times,” Part 3

Europe came late to kite-flying, no mention of them is made there until the 16th century CE. Meanwhile, the Chinese had been flying kites since the 4th or 5th century BCE. They served many uses besides entertainment, from military technology to meditation. Some played music. Some featured animals with eyes, paws, or tails that moved. We’ll have just enough time to catch a quick glimpse of these high-flying kites as we sail through the last day of February’s Random thread. Read more »

Jokes & Riddles, v. 2010
