The Skipper Nancy on TV

She’s She was in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade on November 23, and in the audience of the Today Show on the 24th.

TSN writes:

This year, my marching band gets to be one of only 7 high school bands to march in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York. I’m really uber-excited, even though it means having to get up at midnight and go in to the freezing streets of NY to practice. If you guys want to see my band, watch the parade on TV. We’re the gimungus high school AZ band (270 students strong!). We’re the third band in the parade, I think (and I’m in the second row, eek). We’ll have a minute of air-time on NBC to do our show, which is Hoe Down from the ballet Rodeo. (unfortunately, we’re not doing our normal show, which is The Who)

Also, we get to be in the audience for the Today Show on Nov. 24. Brilliant Mostly Harmless Idea I’m going to make a PWT PWNS sign to hold up in the audience. Then our awesomeness will be broadcasted over national TV !!!! (if my sign gets caught on camera, which isn’t that likely, but hey, we’ll try)

* * *

o I’m really pysched. I tried to sleep last night but didn’t so well. I will have to sleep on the flight to NY (it’s a red eye), because as soon as we get off, we go straight into a bus tour. Then we get 4 hrs of sleep (8-midnight) get up, go out to start rehearsal at 1 in the morining, start the parade at 9:30, march for 2 miles, and THEN get to Harold Square and do out show. It’s gonna be fun.

So everyone watch for the 3rd band in the Macy’s day parade. That’s us. And watch the Today Show on the 24th for the PWT PWNS sign that I’ll be holding up in the audience.

Words & Names, v. 2006.2

Words you ♥, words you made up, names you’re curious about–step right up and verbalize. Just don’t reveal too much about your own names.

Too Much Noise on the Blog?

A couple of MB veterans are getting frustrated with pointless posts. What do you think?

Dear GAPA person,

We are writing to you after a period of frustration with our fellow, usually lovely, MBers. We feel that it may be a time to instate a new rule. We have been also feeling rather nostalgic for the old days. We feel that the old days of conversation and getting to know each other have been lost amidst people posting eight times in a row with nothing to say. People seem to view the MB as a place to burn some time, not a place to converse with other Musers. We feel that it is important that the MB continue to be a place to spend time with other smart, intelligent, thinking individuals and not a place to go for time wasting inane conversation. We think that if MBers would realize they need to have something to say when they post, the MB would make a marked improvement. We would be conversing, discussing and enjoying ourselves. If you look back on the old threads, you see MBers enjoying themselves in true conversation just as if they were talking in real life.

Randomness is good, but it must be balanced with conversations with a purpose. You can have randomness, and still have order; it is the pointless comments we have a problem with. There is a difference between a random comment and a pointless comment. Too many of us have forgotten this difference, forgotten how to converse “Does anyone else hate the Red Hot Chili Peppers?” is a random comment. “OHMYGAH FIRST POST!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHEEEEE!!!!!” is a pointless comment. We feel that too many Muse bloggers have forgotten what the difference is. Pointless comments shouldn’t be posted.

We feel that a rule or suggestion banning pointless posting would make the MB much more enjoyable, for newbies and veterans alike. We would appreciate it if you posted this on it’s own thread in the Museblog so that other Musers can add their thoughts.

Sincerely,

MontgomeryGurl and elassë~adael

Transit of Mercury Coming Up

On Wednesday, November 8, observers in the Western Hemisphere and Pacific will be able to see the planet Mercury cross the face of the sun. Such “transits of Mercury” are fairly rare, so if you’ve got access to welding glasses or a telescope with a sun filter, it’s worth a look. (I’ll be using my NASA glasses left over from the transit of Venus in June 2004.) Your science teachers may be able to help.

You can find more details here.

More (added November 8–better late than never):

There are lots of links (including Webcasts) and information at NASA’s Sun-Earth Day site:

The Exploratorium in San Francisco offers a Webcast and information about how to build a viewer for the transit.
